- 0:05Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Richard Sherman Podcast, and this has
- 0:07Speaker 1: been a crazy week six. Make sure you hit that
- 0:10Speaker 1: like and subscribe button if you're new. This week started
- 0:14Speaker 1: off with an upset. The Broncos upset the reigning Super
- 0:18Speaker 1: Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. Mitchell, there were crazy results all
- 0:23Speaker 1: over the place. The Jacksonville Jaguars, their team, We expect
- 0:27Speaker 1: it to be contenders and continue to be contenders. We
- 0:29Speaker 1: both had them in our top five in the power rankings.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Lose to the Houston Texans who win their second straight
- 0:34Speaker 1: game playing really good football. Playing really good football. Got
- 0:38Speaker 1: to give them credit there. And what are the Rams doing?
- 0:42Speaker 1: What are the Rams doing? There are so many things
- 0:44Speaker 1: that we got to digest in this football weekend that
- 0:47Speaker 1: I don't even know if you have a real great
- 0:49Speaker 1: explanation for.
- 0:51Speaker 2: You don't. And then, I mean, you didn't even mention
- 0:53Speaker 2: the free fall of the Philadelphia Eagles. I mean, there's
- 0:56Speaker 2: so many storylines that week six is taking us down,
- 0:59Speaker 2: but let's start on Thursday night, Richard in Denver, you
- 1:02Speaker 2: were there, your Seattle Seahawks, you know, trying to turn
- 1:06Speaker 2: this momentum on the season and get a win in
- 1:09Speaker 2: prime time. Uh, their defense showed up, but Sam Darnold struggled,
- 1:13Speaker 2: especially down the stretch, throwing two huge interceptions, uh, Let's
- 1:19Speaker 2: talk about Sam Darnold's play in that game, Richard. What
- 1:22Speaker 2: were your thoughts on his decision-making down the stretch of
- 1:25Speaker 2: that game?
- 1:26Speaker 1: Well, he struggled. He struggled. Now, you got to give
- 1:28Speaker 1: the Denver Broncos defense credit. They're a good defense, but
- 1:31Speaker 1: they were missing arguably three of their four best players,
- 1:36Speaker 1: Talanoa Hufanga, without that game. Obviously, they're missing Jonathan Cooper
- 1:41Speaker 1: and then the great Patrick Sertan on the corner. So
- 1:44Speaker 1: if there was ever a time for Sam Darnold to
- 1:47Speaker 1: have a day, this would have been it. And for
- 1:50Speaker 1: him to still struggle with all of those things going
- 1:54Speaker 1: on and all the issues with the Denver Broncos defense,
- 1:57Speaker 1: that's where the concern is. They weren't able to run
- 2:00Speaker 1: the ball. Emmanuel Wilson, 14 carries for 52 yards. George
- 2:04Speaker 1: Helani had five for 20, but in a touchdown, but
- 2:07Speaker 1: it was hard. It was tough sledding all over the place.
- 2:10Speaker 1: And that's something that they have to get fixed without
- 2:13Speaker 1: a run game. This past game isn't going to be
- 2:15Speaker 1: effective in any way. Now, There were some silver linings.
- 2:19Speaker 1: They were able to get Rashid Shaheed a deep pass
- 2:21Speaker 1: for a change. I've been looking for that all season.
- 2:23Speaker 1: They were able to find one down the field. I'm
- 2:25Speaker 1: wondering why they can't keep doing that, why you can't
- 2:28Speaker 1: keep taking those kind of shots, keep taking those opportunities
- 2:31Speaker 1: and push the ball down the field. What's the worst
- 2:33Speaker 1: that could happen? I think they need to leave more
- 2:35Speaker 1: people in for protection. That point has been made again
- 2:38Speaker 1: and again. I talked to Mike McDonald after the game,
- 2:41Speaker 1: and I made that point once again. I was like, ah,
- 2:43Speaker 1: I think you guys need to leave more in to protect.
- 2:46Speaker 1: That 5-0 protection, I don't think it's hard. It's really
- 2:49Speaker 1: hard on the running back and the offensive line. Early on,
- 2:51Speaker 1: they had some miscues where it looked like Abe Lucas
- 2:55Speaker 1: might have thought he was responsible for somebody, but the
- 2:58Speaker 1: running back picked him up, and it was two guys
- 3:00Speaker 1: on one guy and a guy running free hitting Sam
- 3:02Speaker 1: Darn on the backfield. They gave up five sacks in
- 3:05Speaker 1: a game, five sacks to five different people. It was
- 3:08Speaker 1: one of those games that everything that could go wrong
- 3:12Speaker 1: did go wrong. And the defense showed up in an
- 3:15Speaker 1: incredible way. The defense played the game they needed to play.
- 3:20Speaker 1: They held Bo Nix to 107 passing yards without a touchdown.
- 3:25Speaker 1: They only gave up 38 yards in the second half.
- 3:27Speaker 1: They did give up two touchdowns. You know, you got
- 3:30Speaker 1: to expect that sometimes. I've been part of a great defense.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Sometimes it's not your best outing early, but you need
- 3:36Speaker 1: the offense to at least step up and score some points.
- 3:38Speaker 1: If At worst, don't turn the ball over and give
- 3:41Speaker 1: the game back to the other team, and that's what
- 3:42Speaker 1: happened in this game. Three turnovers, three turnovers in this game,
- 3:47Speaker 1: including a fumble and two interceptions thrown. You can't have it.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Jackson Smith and Jigba continues, even with the banged-up ankle
- 3:55Speaker 1: from the last game when they played the San Francisco 49ers.
- 3:57Speaker 1: He came through 12 receptions, 134 yards, and he just
- 4:02Speaker 1: keeps showing up. Every time they needed him, every time
- 4:04Speaker 1: they needed a big play, Jackson Smith and Jigba is there.
- 4:07Speaker 1: The defense is there. The defense is playing solid football.
- 4:10Speaker 1: They're tackling well. They're getting off the field. They're doing
- 4:14Speaker 1: what they got to do to give their offense a
- 4:16Speaker 1: chance to win these games. The red zone issues on
- 4:20Speaker 1: both sides of the football continue. You got to get
- 4:22Speaker 1: those fixed. You got to defensively, they have to find
- 4:24Speaker 1: a way to get stops in the red zone or
- 4:26Speaker 1: else this isn't going to go well. There's a lot
- 4:29Speaker 1: of concern about that run game. That's one thing I
- 4:32Speaker 1: don't have really great answers to. I don't know if
- 4:34Speaker 1: Charbonnet comes in and he's going to be the spark
- 4:38Speaker 1: They struggled last season all the way up until around
- 4:41Speaker 1: week 10, and then things started to look really good
- 4:44Speaker 1: for the last, you know, I guess 10 weeks of
- 4:46Speaker 1: the season, eight to 10 weeks of the season. You know, K-9,
- 4:50Speaker 1: and I know everybody's looking at the Kansas City Chiefs
- 4:52Speaker 1: and how K-9's playing. They're like, oh, my God, we
- 4:54Speaker 1: wish we could have had him back. He would not
- 4:57Speaker 1: be having that kind of season in Seattle. There are
- 5:00Speaker 1: not the kind of holes. It's not being blocked in
- 5:03Speaker 1: a way. where anybody could be as successful as he is.
- 5:06Speaker 1: It's being blocked better right now in Kansas City. So
- 5:08Speaker 1: I know people want to just quickly turn around and say,
- 5:11Speaker 1: oh my God, if we had him, it would all
- 5:13Speaker 1: be fixed. That's the simple hypothetical, oh my God, everybody
- 5:20Speaker 1: could dream. But that's not the reality, I don't think.
- 5:23Speaker 1: I think he's in a spot where he's thriving because
- 5:25Speaker 1: he's in a great scheme. The quarterback is part of it.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Andy Reid's one of the best play callers in the
- 5:31Speaker 1: history of the National Football League. He's finding ways to
- 5:34Speaker 1: maximize his potential, and Kenneth Walker is benefiting from that.
- 5:41Speaker 1: I've seen some other stuff on the internet. I mean,
- 5:43Speaker 1: I saw Fitz's video to Tlaib after Tlaib tried to
- 5:47Speaker 1: get on Fitz about what Fitz said about Bo Nix's performance.
- 5:52Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know what you want in that situation.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I really don't, Mitchell. Bo Nix didn't play well, and
- 5:59Speaker 1: he hasn't played very well in this season. He's thrown
- 6:03Speaker 1: for under 200 yards four times in this season alone.
- 6:09Speaker 1: This game, he threw for 107 yards on 27 attempts.
- 6:13Speaker 1: That's not a good football game. And there were a
- 6:15Speaker 1: number of plays where he could have took off and run.
- 6:17Speaker 1: He could have made a play. Even a play that
- 6:20Speaker 1: Lee was defending. Like the running back had a blocker
- 6:22Speaker 1: out in front. that's not a play you throw that
- 6:25Speaker 1: late in the clock. That's a quick game play. You
- 6:27Speaker 1: get the ball out there, let him run. The blocker
- 6:29Speaker 1: hits right in time. Like there's so many things, parts
- 6:32Speaker 1: of that play that had to happen on time, quick
- 6:35Speaker 1: timing that didn't happen. And then if he wasn't going
- 6:37Speaker 1: to take that, the lane was right there for him
- 6:39Speaker 1: to run and get the first down. And instead he
- 6:42Speaker 1: threw it. That is non-competitive football. That's just what it was.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I don't even know how you're defending this because it'd
- 6:48Speaker 1: be different if you were defending a performance where a
- 6:51Speaker 1: guy just had an off day. And he's not having
- 6:53Speaker 1: an offseason. He's having an offseason right now. A very offseason.
- 6:56Speaker 1: And if it wasn't for the terrific play of the
- 6:59Speaker 1: Denver Broncos defense, this season could look a whole lot
- 7:03Speaker 1: worse for the Denver Broncos. But they're 4-2, so you
- 7:06Speaker 1: give them credit. You give Sean Payton credit. You give
- 7:09Speaker 1: Vance Joseph and that defense a ton of credit for
- 7:12Speaker 1: being able to win a huge game with three of
- 7:14Speaker 1: their superstars out. And you leave it at that. I
- 7:18Speaker 1: thought what Fitz did was hilarious. I thought What Lee
- 7:22Speaker 1: did was unnecessary. You can talk about Fitz's career and
- 7:26Speaker 1: ups and downs and whether he won games or not,
- 7:29Speaker 1: et cetera, et cetera, but he's had some stretches where
- 7:33Speaker 1: he's played some outstanding football, thrown for 400 multiple times.
- 7:37Speaker 1: I mean, I want to say he threw for 1,200
- 7:40Speaker 1: yards in three weeks at one point, and I don't
- 7:43Speaker 1: know if you will ever find a stretch of Bo
- 7:45Speaker 1: Nix playing that kind of football, that level of football. Now,
- 7:48Speaker 1: maybe you won't find a stretch of him turning the
- 7:51Speaker 1: ball over like Fitz because he's not a gunslinger like that.
- 7:53Speaker 1: He's conservative. We're in a time where these quarterbacks are
- 7:56Speaker 1: trying to protect their stats and play efficiency numbers and
- 7:59Speaker 1: depend on their defenses. That's where he is. But I'm
- 8:02Speaker 1: sure Sean Payton would like a little bit more gunslinger
- 8:05Speaker 1: and let the ball go, especially this season where they're
- 8:07Speaker 1: drawing up plays where guys are running wide open and
- 8:10Speaker 1: Bo Nix is standing in a clean pocket and not
- 8:12Speaker 1: letting the football go. It's fair to criticize that. It's
- 8:15Speaker 1: fair to say he's not playing as well as he could.
- 8:18Speaker 1: It's fair to say he's not playing as well as
- 8:20Speaker 1: the plays that are being drawn up for him and
- 8:23Speaker 1: the receivers and the talent around him. Evan Ingram, they
- 8:26Speaker 1: just got Waddle, Cortland Sutton. There's enough talent around him
- 8:31Speaker 1: that he should be playing better. He should have more yardage,
- 8:35Speaker 1: and he doesn't. And if you can't criticize that, then
- 8:38Speaker 1: there's no point in having the job.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Well, Bo Nix is currently averaging 4.9 air yards per
- 8:46Speaker 2: pass attempt, Richard. I mean, if I lay down on
- 8:48Speaker 2: the ground, that's about as long as I am, man.
- 8:51Speaker 2: I mean, this is, you've got a quarterback with big weapons.
- 8:55Speaker 2: I mean, Cortland Sutton, he's a downfield vertical threat. Same
- 8:59Speaker 2: with Jalen Waddell. I mean, that's why they brought him
- 9:01Speaker 2: to be a speedster. Take the top off the defense.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Bo Nix appears to be the problem in Denver. I
- 9:06Speaker 2: know they snuck out with a win in this one,
- 9:08Speaker 2: but 107 passing yards on 27 attempts. is not anything
- 9:12Speaker 2: to write home about. Listen, he's the next guy on
- 9:15Speaker 2: the board to get paid. I mean, what are you
- 9:17Speaker 2: doing if you're Denver's management? Because, you know, they're looking
- 9:20Speaker 2: at $ 55 million. I mean, we saw what Baker Mayfield
- 9:23Speaker 2: just made. How in the world can you justify paying
- 9:26Speaker 2: Bo Nix something like that? It seems like something that
- 9:28Speaker 2: would kill a franchise.
- 9:30Speaker 1: I don't think you can justify it. But I think both,
- 9:35Speaker 1: if you're the Seattle Seahawks, you're looking at Sam Darnold
- 9:37Speaker 1: and you're saying, hey, We got to find a way
- 9:40Speaker 1: to justify paying him, but he just won a Super Bowl.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Regardless of how he's playing and the ups and downs,
- 9:45Speaker 1: I know people want to say, oh man, Sam Darnold
- 9:49Speaker 1: can't get paid and they should replace him with Drew Locke.
- 9:51Speaker 1: He just won a Super Bowl. Whether you like him
- 9:53Speaker 1: or not, he just led a team to a Super Bowl,
- 9:55Speaker 1: whether it was the defense or the offense. You don't
- 9:57Speaker 1: just get rid of a guy like that and sit
- 9:58Speaker 1: him down. They're not sitting down Justin Herbert, and he
- 10:02Speaker 1: hasn't won a Super Bowl or come close, and this
- 10:05Speaker 1: team is 0-6. And fans are arguing that they should
- 10:08Speaker 1: fire everybody but the quarterback. And he's leading the league
- 10:11Speaker 1: in interceptions right now, but it's everybody else's fault. But
- 10:13Speaker 1: we're going to get to that. I just think that
- 10:16Speaker 1: in this league, the way it's– it's currently designed and
- 10:20Speaker 1: the way it's currently constructed, something's going to have to
- 10:24Speaker 1: change because these quarterbacks aren't the main reason these teams
- 10:27Speaker 1: are having success anymore. And that's fair and that's fine.
- 10:31Speaker 1: In some cities, they are. You look at Kansas City,
- 10:36Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes has earned his money. I think Joe Burrow
- 10:38Speaker 1: has earned his money. You look at Buffalo, you're dang
- 10:41Speaker 1: sure Josh Allen has earned his money. And you get
- 10:44Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson in Baltimore has earned his money. And Philadelphia fans,
- 10:49Speaker 1: you can argue with whoever you want. A lot of
- 10:52Speaker 1: wins have happened in Philadelphia, and Jalen Hurts isn't getting
- 10:55Speaker 1: top of the market money. He's won you a Super Bowl,
- 10:58Speaker 1: took you to another Super Bowl. You guys have consistently
- 11:01Speaker 1: been in the mix. I think you can argue he's
- 11:03Speaker 1: earned his money. But guys like this are where I
- 11:10Speaker 1: think something's going to have to change in the league
- 11:12Speaker 1: and the way they're constructed. And it should have changed
- 11:14Speaker 1: a long time ago. Where And we'll give Brock Purdy.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Brock Purdy is just doing San Francisco. He's earning his money.
- 11:23Speaker 1: You know, last season with all the injuries and everything
- 11:25Speaker 1: that happened to that team. But Bo Nix is not.
- 11:28Speaker 1: And they don't need Bo Nix to be excellent. Just
- 11:31Speaker 1: like the Seattle Seahawks did well with Drew Locke for
- 11:35Speaker 1: a little while. A couple games. He didn't turn the
- 11:38Speaker 1: ball over. They can win games. They can find a way.
- 11:41Speaker 1: When you can play football like that and your team
- 11:43Speaker 1: is built like that, we were built like that. You
- 11:45Speaker 1: didn't need a crazy game out of the quarterback to
- 11:48Speaker 1: win this game. You had Marshawn Lynch in the backfield,
- 11:50Speaker 1: a great running game, a great defense. Don't turn the
- 11:53Speaker 1: ball over and we'll probably get out of there with
- 11:55Speaker 1: a win. And when your team's designed like that, I
- 11:57Speaker 1: think you can get away with paying your quarterbacks reasonable numbers. Now,
- 12:01Speaker 1: will these quarterbacks accept that? That'll be the question. Like,
- 12:04Speaker 1: will Bo Nix say, no, I'm not accepting that? And
- 12:07Speaker 1: then what do you do when he doesn't accept it?
- 12:09Speaker 1: Do you just say franchise day? Because that's still a
- 12:11Speaker 1: big number. So that's a conversation that I'm interested in
- 12:15Speaker 1: seeing how it goes. Now, they'll probably fold up and
- 12:17Speaker 1: pay him what he's asking for, pay him $ 60 million
- 12:20Speaker 1: or whatever it is, the top of the market. But
- 12:23Speaker 1: I don't think they'll win anymore after that. I think
- 12:26Speaker 1: once teams start to go there and your quarterback isn't
- 12:29Speaker 1: the 4,500– 34 touchdowns, 32 touchdown producing quarterback, and you're
- 12:35Speaker 1: paying him like he is because he's just the next
- 12:38Speaker 1: one in line, I think you start to destroy your
- 12:41Speaker 1: team and you start to have to get rid of
- 12:43Speaker 1: people and players that are at the top of their game,
- 12:45Speaker 1: that are amongst the top of the league at their positions,
- 12:49Speaker 1: and you start to have a worse team. And now
- 12:51Speaker 1: all the things that made you a great team, you
- 12:53Speaker 1: start to not have anymore. But that's just what I
- 12:56Speaker 1: got to say about that. The Broncos... great win for
- 12:59Speaker 1: them the Seahawks got to find a way they got
- 13:01Speaker 1: Kansas City in a couple weeks or I guess next
- 13:05Speaker 1: week at this point they got the Kansas City Chiefs
- 13:07Speaker 1: and they are rolling right now they continue to look
- 13:10Speaker 1: really well really good um they they are undefeated just
- 13:13Speaker 1: beat the LA Chargers Kenneth Walker revenge game that's gonna
- 13:17Speaker 1: be one to watch Mitchell.
- 13:19Speaker 2: No question about it the the This is a must-win
- 13:22Speaker 2: for Seattle, if you ask me. I mean, the wheels
- 13:25Speaker 2: are kind of slowly turning, and I think the fan
- 13:27Speaker 2: base might be losing a little bit of hope. They've
- 13:30Speaker 2: got to come out strong in this one against the Chiefs, Richard,
- 13:33Speaker 2: and get back a one in the winning column. Let's
- 13:35Speaker 2: talk about another wild one in L.A., the L.A. Rams.
- 13:39Speaker 2: This was a team that came in with lofty expectations.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Everyone's crowning them as the Super Bowl champ before the
- 13:45Speaker 2: first week one kickoff. Here they are six weeks into
- 13:48Speaker 2: the season, two and four, losing at home to the
- 13:52Speaker 2: Arizona Cardinals, a team that gave up 45 points last
- 13:56Speaker 2: week at home, goes into SoFi and knocks off the Rams.
- 14:01Speaker 2: How surprised are you with this.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Outcome, Richard? I'm incredibly surprised, but I'm incredibly surprised at
- 14:09Speaker 1: a lot of the outcomes of these games for the
- 14:12Speaker 1: LA Rams, I think. They are a couple plays away
- 14:15Speaker 1: from being a 1-5 team. If you talk about that
- 14:18Speaker 1: win they had against the Philadelphia Eagles late, they had
- 14:21Speaker 1: a last-second drive, they had a fourth-quarter comeback. They just
- 14:25Speaker 1: aren't playing up to the level that you would expect.
- 14:28Speaker 1: And you could say, oh, man, we're waiting for Miles Garrett.
- 14:32Speaker 1: You could say, oh, Aaron Donald just needs to knock
- 14:34Speaker 1: the rust off. But you could say Aleric Jackson was
- 14:39Speaker 1: missing this game, got suspended for punching Bradley Chubb after
- 14:42Speaker 1: the last game. But is that enough? Arizona Cardinals have
- 14:47Speaker 1: lost four straight, and they've lost four straight to a
- 14:50Speaker 1: lot of different kinds of teams, contenders, non-contenders. They haven't
- 14:54Speaker 1: played the best football. The Rams are starting to... First off,
- 15:02Speaker 1: this is a great reason why you don't crown preseason
- 15:05Speaker 1: or offseason champions. All that on-paper stuff does not matter
- 15:10Speaker 1: in the National Football League. This is a grown-man game.
- 15:13Speaker 1: It may matter in other sports, But this is a
- 15:15Speaker 1: grown man game. And sometimes bringing great pieces together, you know,
- 15:23Speaker 1: you can put great ingredients together, Mitchell. I could put
- 15:26Speaker 1: bacon with milk chocolate with strawberries and blend it up, Mitchell,
- 15:32Speaker 1: and it may not taste good. Not that bacon isn't
- 15:34Speaker 1: great and strawberries aren't great and milk chocolate with almonds. Oh,
- 15:39Speaker 1: chef's kiss, Mitchell. But combining them all and then trying
- 15:44Speaker 1: to mix them all in the same pot, Mitchell, it
- 15:46Speaker 1: doesn't always turn out great. And when you're talking about
- 15:48Speaker 1: a team like the Rams, I'm sure when Miles Garrett
- 15:51Speaker 1: comes back, they'll be better defensively. But will they be elite?
- 15:55Speaker 1: Will they do everything they can to get free Miles
- 15:59Speaker 1: Garrett up? And Miles Garrett can win one-on-ones and do
- 16:01Speaker 1: all that. But will, in Cleveland, they would go out
- 16:05Speaker 1: of their way to free Miles Garrett up to eat
- 16:09Speaker 1: and to have sacks. I don't think they're going to
- 16:11Speaker 1: do that in LA. And if they don't go out
- 16:13Speaker 1: of their way to do it, can Miles Garrett still
- 16:16Speaker 1: reach those 19, 20, 15 sack seasons that he's had?
- 16:21Speaker 1: Or can he just play good team football? That is
- 16:23Speaker 1: to be seen because he hasn't had to play the
- 16:27Speaker 1: kind of football that is, hey, you don't always have
- 16:30Speaker 1: to go for 10 sacks, four sacks a game. Sometimes
- 16:32Speaker 1: you just have to play well in a run game. Like,
- 16:36Speaker 1: do your part. Be the pick part of the pick stunt. Like,
- 16:38Speaker 1: be a great teammate, be in the gap you're supposed
- 16:40Speaker 1: to be in. And so that's to be seen. But
- 16:42Speaker 1: this defense, they played solid. I think they played pretty
- 16:46Speaker 1: solid in this game. They gave up a ton of yards,
- 16:48Speaker 1: but they were great in the red zone. That was
- 16:50Speaker 1: the big reason they had a chance in this game.
- 16:52Speaker 1: They held in the first half, they held the Cardinals
- 16:58Speaker 1: to 0-4, 0-4 in the red zone. And I think
- 17:01Speaker 1: they held them for 0-2 in the second half. And
- 17:05Speaker 1: All Arizona's points came off of field goals. But Matthew Stafford,
- 17:09Speaker 1: I can't understand what's going on with him. I can't
- 17:12Speaker 1: understand what's going wrong with the reigning MVP of the
- 17:15Speaker 1: National Football League. He's just not having the success that
- 17:18Speaker 1: we're used to having. And it's not because he's– I mean,
- 17:23Speaker 1: he was a little rusty probably earlier. But in this game,
- 17:26Speaker 1: he got hot in the fourth quarter. He looked like
- 17:28Speaker 1: the Matthew Stafford in the last few drives of the
- 17:31Speaker 1: fourth quarter. when they had to have it. But I'm
- 17:33Speaker 1: starting to wonder, why aren't you seeing that earlier in
- 17:36Speaker 1: the game? Why aren't we seeing that Matthew Stafford come
- 17:39Speaker 1: out of the games, like, striking out? Maybe it's taking
- 17:44Speaker 1: a second for the body to warm up and get
- 17:45Speaker 1: where it needs to get, but Devontae Adams went out
- 17:48Speaker 1: in this game with what appeared to be a calf injury,
- 17:51Speaker 1: and it's starting to become a repetitive theme, injuries with
- 17:57Speaker 1: their receiving core. Like, Puka gets back. Devontae's out. Devontae...
- 18:02Speaker 1: Puka's out, Devontae's in. Like, very few times have we
- 18:06Speaker 1: had both of these guys together at the same time healthy.
- 18:11Speaker 1: I don't know what's wrong with this Rams team. I
- 18:13Speaker 1: really don't. I just don't know how this is going
- 18:17Speaker 1: to get fixed because they aren't playing well. They were
- 18:21Speaker 1: a better team than this Arizona Cardinals team. But give
- 18:25Speaker 1: props to Matt LaFleur. I mean, Mike LaFleur, sorry. Give
- 18:29Speaker 1: props to Mike LaFleur. He's undefeated in L.A. in SoFi Stadium.
- 18:33Speaker 1: He beat the Chargers and the Rams. Those are the
- 18:35Speaker 1: only two games they've won this season. He got it done, Mitchell.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Give him credit.
- 18:39Speaker 2: That's impressive. He's got more wins in SoFi than Justin
- 18:43Speaker 2: Herbert and the Chargers franchise do this season. That's huge.
- 18:48Speaker 2: But you're talking about Matthew Stafford and his struggles. What
- 18:51Speaker 2: doesn't make sense to me is this is a team
- 18:53Speaker 2: that has been together for a handful of years now.
- 18:56Speaker 2: It's not like they're introducing a new high-profile wideout or
- 19:00Speaker 2: introducing a new running back or fine-tuning this offensive line.
- 19:04Speaker 2: These are the same pieces we saw last year, and
- 19:06Speaker 2: this is the same high-flying offense that we saw last year,
- 19:10Speaker 2: at least the components of it, and yet the team
- 19:12Speaker 2: is just not playing on that level. Something is going on.
- 19:17Speaker 2: 286 yards of total offense against the Cardinals. When your
- 19:20Speaker 2: backs were against the wall in that second half, it's
- 19:22Speaker 2: not going to get it done.
- 19:25Speaker 1: And we can talk about the kicker situation. Because last week,
- 19:30Speaker 1: you should have had the game won against the Buffalo Bills,
- 19:34Speaker 1: who everybody in the world thinks are big-time contenders this year.
- 19:38Speaker 1: And then you turn around and lose your kicker early
- 19:42Speaker 1: in the game. So it leaves your situation very bleak.
- 19:49Speaker 1: bleak great word and so now you're forced to go
- 19:54Speaker 1: for two on the first touchdown you don't know what
- 19:57Speaker 1: you're going to get then you find a way in
- 19:59Speaker 1: the second one I just I really I know Sean
- 20:04Speaker 1: McVay is really frustrated he was really frustrated last week
- 20:08Speaker 1: and I didn't I thought they would come around this
- 20:11Speaker 1: week and have a great game and just blow Arizona
- 20:14Speaker 1: out of the water. It's starting to look like, I mean,
- 20:18Speaker 1: when Miles Garrett does come back, whenever that is, they'll
- 20:22Speaker 1: be fighting for a wild card spot, if anything.
- 20:27Speaker 2: That's just it. This team is not in the NFC South.
- 20:30Speaker 2: They're not in the NFC East. They're in the NFC West.
- 20:33Speaker 2: And all of these games matter in that division. We
- 20:37Speaker 2: shall see. Let's talk about the Las Vegas Raiders hosting
- 20:42Speaker 2: the Buffalo Bills. The Bills squeeze out a three-point win here.
- 20:46Speaker 2: We saw Josh Allen have a solid game, 255, two touchdowns.
- 20:51Speaker 2: He was not very active running the football. But this
- 20:54Speaker 2: team goes in to Las Vegas and pulls off a
- 20:57Speaker 2: win at Allegiant Stadium. How impressed with this Bills team
- 21:02Speaker 2: are you at this point in the season?
- 21:04Speaker 1: Four and one.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Road win against the Hot Raiders. What are your thoughts
- 21:07Speaker 2: on this Buffalo Bills team thus far?
- 21:12Speaker 1: I'm impressed with them offensively, but I'm not impressed at
- 21:15Speaker 1: all defensively. They're one of the half teams that we
- 21:23Speaker 1: have in the National Football League. The half contenders. Half tenders.
- 21:26Speaker 2: The half bait squad.
- 21:27Speaker 1: I'm going with half tenders. Half baits that we have
- 21:31Speaker 1: in the National Football League. I'd say them... the Minnesota Vikings,
- 21:38Speaker 1: the Denver Broncos, the Seattle Seahawks right now, the half-baked,
- 21:43Speaker 1: you know, one side of the football is elite and
- 21:46Speaker 1: playing elite football championship level contender football. And the other
- 21:51Speaker 1: side isn't keeping up. And I think for the Buffalo bills,
- 21:53Speaker 1: it's their defense. They gave up 30 points again today
- 21:56Speaker 1: to Kirk cousins and a Raiders. And they found a
- 22:01Speaker 1: way to win again. They find a way to win, but,
- 22:04Speaker 1: Josh Allen having to play, do a lot to find
- 22:06Speaker 1: a way to win. I don't, I don't get, I just,
- 22:11Speaker 1: I know it, it, it looks good offensively, but I,
- 22:14Speaker 1: it's just not a sustainable way to play football. And I,
- 22:18Speaker 1: I feel like going into the playoffs, going in late
- 22:20Speaker 1: in the season, you're going to run into a team that,
- 22:23Speaker 1: that can get some stops against this offense that, that
- 22:26Speaker 1: forces a turnover or two like the LA chargers did.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Then what are you going to do? Then what are
- 22:32Speaker 1: you going to do? Like, If you can't keep up
- 22:34Speaker 1: and this defense can't get stops, then what are you
- 22:37Speaker 1: going to do? Josh Allen is playing great football. You
- 22:41Speaker 1: give him a ton of credit. Keon Coleman is finding
- 22:44Speaker 1: a way to stay involved. Khalil Shakir, they're doing their thing.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Dalton Kincaid, they're a good offense with a lot of weapons.
- 22:53Speaker 1: James Cook was a huge impact player in this game.
- 22:56Speaker 1: 22 carries, 95 yards and a touchdown, three receptions for
- 22:59Speaker 1: 56 yards. including a 26-yard catch to set up the
- 23:03Speaker 1: go-ahead three-yard run in the fourth quarter. But I just
- 23:08Speaker 1: don't know if this is sustainable. I mean, and you're
- 23:14Speaker 1: talking about, I'm seeing the reaction to C.J. Gardner-Johnson's ejection for,
- 23:20Speaker 1: I think they said he might have spit on a
- 23:22Speaker 1: Raiders player and had that unfortunate penalty there. You can't
- 23:27Speaker 1: have things like that when you're playing on a defense
- 23:29Speaker 1: that's already having a hard time getting stops. He's been
- 23:32Speaker 1: that kind of player for most of his career. It
- 23:35Speaker 1: works in his benefit sometimes when he's going and he
- 23:38Speaker 1: gets player route up and he gets in guys' heads,
- 23:41Speaker 1: but it can work against him in situations like this
- 23:43Speaker 1: where he gets ejected. The Bills are fine. They're fine.
- 23:49Speaker 1: They'll probably beat three in the power rankings, but I
- 23:52Speaker 1: can't justify putting them any higher until that defense shows more.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree with you. I mean, this is like
- 23:59Speaker 2: a Jekyll and Hyde team. I was sitting on the
- 24:00Speaker 2: couch watching this game with my wife, Richard, and she's
- 24:03Speaker 2: a novice football fan and knows enough but not enough.
- 24:08Speaker 2: And she's watching Josh Allen and she says, how does
- 24:11Speaker 2: anyone ever beat this guy? And I told her, it
- 24:14Speaker 2: comes down to playoff time and he just randomly doesn't
- 24:17Speaker 2: show up. And that's the question with the Bills. I mean, again,
- 24:21Speaker 2: I know they won this game and kudos to Josh
- 24:23Speaker 2: Allen and co., But I just cannot justify him not
- 24:26Speaker 2: having more success on the ground. If they want to
- 24:28Speaker 2: take this team and make it unbeatable, like you said
- 24:32Speaker 2: the last couple weeks, it's interjection of his rushing to
- 24:36Speaker 2: this team and this offense. James Cook, stud. 22 carries,
- 24:40Speaker 2: 95 yards, touchdown. Played a vital role in this team's
- 24:43Speaker 2: success down the stretch. Buffalo's got to unlock that next
- 24:47Speaker 2: element of their offense. And their defense is going to
- 24:49Speaker 2: have to come along as well. But kudos to the Raiders.
- 24:52Speaker 2: They keep hanging with these teams. Richard, that, you know,
- 24:56Speaker 2: otherwise last year they would have gotten blown out by.
- 24:58Speaker 2: They got a nice new identity. They look hungry. Clint
- 25:01Speaker 2: Kubiak is clearly doing some good stuff in Vegas. I
- 25:04Speaker 2: still like them. They got a tough stretch of games here, Richard.
- 25:07Speaker 2: We'll see how it all works out for them. Raiders
- 25:09Speaker 2: looked all right in this loss. Let's talk. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Kirk Cousins is showing people why he's starting over Fernando Mendoza.
- 25:18Speaker 1: He's a great guy to learn from. He works well
- 25:21Speaker 1: in this offense, had 313 yards, two touchdowns, only one interception,
- 25:25Speaker 1: wasn't sacked in this game. But Ashton Genting, a guy
- 25:28Speaker 1: we're not talking about enough. I mean, I'm not even
- 25:31Speaker 1: sure he should be getting the amount of carries that
- 25:32Speaker 1: he's getting. I would say, if I was a Raiders fan,
- 25:36Speaker 1: give him to Mike Washington because Mike Washington's averaging 4.8
- 25:39Speaker 1: a carry, had a long of 18, and Ashton Genting,
- 25:43Speaker 1: had 22 yards in the game on 10 carries. He
- 25:45Speaker 1: had some yards through the air and he had the
- 25:48Speaker 1: one yard rushing touchdown because he was in the game
- 25:50Speaker 1: and Mike Washington wasn't, but it's starting to become a conversation. Like,
- 25:54Speaker 1: and I don't know if it's because Ashton Gentry isn't
- 25:56Speaker 1: the guy that we thought he was coming out of
- 25:58Speaker 1: Boise state. Maybe the level of competition has increased too much,
- 26:02Speaker 1: but I'm just not seeing what you need to see
- 26:04Speaker 1: for him to justify the amount of carries. Like, I
- 26:07Speaker 1: think they have to start looking at maybe giving Mike
- 26:09Speaker 1: Washington a few more carries and seeing if that, doesn't
- 26:12Speaker 1: spark this offense even more.
- 26:13Speaker 2: And to your point, Mike Washington's got a second gear.
- 26:16Speaker 2: I mean, he ran an incredibly low 40 at the
- 26:18Speaker 2: combine coming out of Arkansas.
- 26:20Speaker 1: I'm with you.
- 26:21Speaker 2: A lot of question marks around Ashton Genting, and that's
- 26:24Speaker 2: why there's a lot of criticism with drafting a running
- 26:27Speaker 2: back that high in the draft is because not only
- 26:30Speaker 2: are you expending that amount of draft capital, but now
- 26:32Speaker 2: there's a motive to start him and play him more.
- 26:35Speaker 2: When you got somebody in Mike Washington that really could
- 26:38Speaker 2: take this offense to another level.
- 26:40Speaker 1: I need to tell you about this new prediction market
- 26:43Speaker 1: called Polymarket. It's the best new way to trade in sports.
- 26:48Speaker 2: In the past, if you wanted action on the game,
- 26:51Speaker 2: you put some money in. And if your team was
- 26:53Speaker 2: doing well and you wanted to cash out, they'd lock
- 26:56Speaker 2: the trade or take a huge fee.
- 26:59Speaker 1: But Polymarket is a prediction market. It's a stock exchange
- 27:03Speaker 1: for sports, buying in and selling out on your terms.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Richard, I've tried them all, and Polymarket is simply the
- 27:11Speaker 2: best prediction market. It's better than DraftKings, it's better than FanDuel, Calshi,
- 27:16Speaker 2: you name it.
- 27:17Speaker 1: And they're so confident that you will never go back
- 27:20Speaker 1: to the other guys that they're giving you a free
- 27:23Speaker 1: $ 25 on your first trade when you deposit just $ 10.
- 27:27Speaker 2: And now they've launched a new feature. It's called Squads,
- 27:31Speaker 2: a group chat where you can see what everyone is
- 27:33Speaker 2: trading on.
- 27:35Speaker 1: So download the Polymarket app today. And use the promo
- 27:38Speaker 1: code SHERMAN when you sign up. That's S-H-E-R-M-A-N to get
- 27:44Speaker 1: $ 25 free after you deposit just $ 10.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Let's talk about this L.A. Chargers team. 0-6 on the season.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Fall to the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs, 22-6.
- 27:58Speaker 2: And yet another game where the defense keeps them in
- 28:01Speaker 2: this game and Justin Herbert and the offense keeps them
- 28:05Speaker 2: nowhere close to it. At this point, I don't even
- 28:09Speaker 2: know where to start with Justin Herbert, but I'll start
- 28:11Speaker 2: with this question for you. Who loses their job first
- 28:15Speaker 2: in LA? Is it the quarterback or is it the
- 28:18Speaker 2: head coach? Because at 0-6, there's a lot of finger
- 28:22Speaker 2: pointing that's going to be happening. Who does it truly
- 28:25Speaker 2: land on?
- 28:28Speaker 1: Well, if I'm listening to the Chargers fans, everybody but Herbert.
- 28:32Speaker 1: That's what I keep hearing. It's everybody's fault but Herbert. So,
- 28:36Speaker 1: I'm guessing that's what the ownership thinks. It's everybody's fault
- 28:39Speaker 1: but Herbert. Even though we haven't seen anything that it
- 28:43Speaker 1: gives us any confidence that under the perfect circumstances, Herbert
- 28:48Speaker 1: would be a guy that could win. But what does
- 28:52Speaker 1: it take? Does it take a great defense? He's had that.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Didn't go well. He's had one of the best offensive lines.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Didn't win anything. And now everything's kind of falling apart
- 29:04Speaker 1: and young offensive line, banged up he's dealing with a
- 29:08Speaker 1: lot of pressure he's turning the ball over at a
- 29:09Speaker 1: high tilt leading the national football league in it um
- 29:13Speaker 1: not throwing a ton of touchdowns not doing enough with
- 29:17Speaker 1: his legs i'm sure again sure he's making a wild
- 29:20Speaker 1: throw a game maybe two maybe even three but that's
- 29:24Speaker 1: not enough like you have to play quarterback you have
- 29:27Speaker 1: to play quarterback at a high level in this league
- 29:29Speaker 1: you have to manage and i know people throw this
- 29:32Speaker 1: term around like it's a negative but you have to
- 29:36Speaker 1: manage the game, Mitchell. Game manager. He's not a good
- 29:39Speaker 1: game manager. He's a really highly talented NFL quarterback. He's
- 29:44Speaker 1: got all the measurables, all the things you would want
- 29:47Speaker 1: in your quarterback, but can you manage the game? Can
- 29:49Speaker 1: you just get the ball where it needs to be
- 29:51Speaker 1: when it needs to be there? Can you know when
- 29:54Speaker 1: to take a shot, when to not take a shot,
- 29:56Speaker 1: when to throw the football away, when to, when they
- 29:59Speaker 1: keep it out of harm's way. Like, you have to
- 30:01Speaker 1: be a better game manager, and I just don't see
- 30:03Speaker 1: it right now. I don't know. I know the quarterback
- 30:08Speaker 1: makes a lot more than a head coach, and it's
- 30:11Speaker 1: hard to get rid of quarterbacks in the National Football
- 30:13Speaker 1: League and come back. Maybe they don't get rid of anybody,
- 30:18Speaker 1: and then they just tell the Chargers fans this was
- 30:20Speaker 1: a down year, and we'll get them next year with
- 30:22Speaker 1: the same roster, plus or minus a few pieces. I
- 30:26Speaker 1: don't know. I don't have a lot of great answers
- 30:28Speaker 1: because his team isn't doing a lot of things great,
- 30:33Speaker 1: and it's not a lot you can build on. I
- 30:35Speaker 1: know they want to get rid of Quentin Jostin. He
- 30:37Speaker 1: had that one big catch in this game, but it's
- 30:42Speaker 1: too many drops, too inconsistent each and every year. Ladd
- 30:45Speaker 1: McConkie had one target in this game but went out
- 30:47Speaker 1: with an injury. Omarion Hampton, seven carries for 18 yards.
- 30:54Speaker 1: The run game was nonexistent in this game. And I
- 30:57Speaker 1: know that Mike McDaniel was brought in to revamp this
- 31:02Speaker 1: run game, to show you guys what the Kyle Shanahan
- 31:06Speaker 1: outside zone, McVay, the offense that everybody wants would look
- 31:10Speaker 1: like with Justin Herbert at quarterback. Well, it doesn't look
- 31:15Speaker 1: great with Justin Herbert at the helm. It just doesn't.
- 31:18Speaker 1: And so maybe this just doesn't work for Justin Herbert.
- 31:21Speaker 1: And so maybe it starts with McDaniel and they get
- 31:24Speaker 1: rid of McDaniel and bring somebody else in. But it's
- 31:27Speaker 1: been too often that it's Greg Roman. Now it's McDaniel.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Now it's every coordinator that comes in's fault. Eventually, you
- 31:34Speaker 1: have to stop. Eventually, you have to say, hey, maybe
- 31:41Speaker 1: there's a common denominator we're just not mentioning and people
- 31:45Speaker 1: will refuse to say it. And it's Justin Herbert. He's
- 31:49Speaker 1: the common denominator, Mitchell. He's the guy in the middle
- 31:53Speaker 1: of it all. When they get in the playoffs and
- 31:54Speaker 1: they have a big lead, Can they lose to the
- 31:59Speaker 1: Jacksonville Jaguars? I'm a denominator. And I know, well, what
- 32:04Speaker 1: about the defense? They gave up a lot of points.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Sure.
- 32:07Speaker 1: They're not getting paid over $ 50 million a year. Not
- 32:09Speaker 1: one person on that defense is getting paid over $ 50
- 32:12Speaker 1: million a year. It falls on the quarterback. Just like
- 32:15Speaker 1: if they would have won, it would have fell on
- 32:16Speaker 1: the quarterback.
- 32:18Speaker 2: This organization is going to have a lot of questions
- 32:20Speaker 2: in the off season. They're going to probably be picking
- 32:22Speaker 2: top three. I mean, we, we, Called it, you know,
- 32:27Speaker 2: three weeks into the season. I mean, and here we are.
- 32:29Speaker 2: We said there's a very good chance they start 0-7
- 32:32Speaker 2: on this season.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Here they are.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Is there any world where you draft a quarterback in
- 32:38Speaker 2: the top three? I mean, this draft is pretty loaded
- 32:41Speaker 2: at quarterback. You got Mestemaker. You got Mensah. You got Chambliss.
- 32:45Speaker 2: You got Manning. Like, there's some big names at the
- 32:47Speaker 2: top of this draft. Is this the time for the L.A.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Chargers to invest that draft pick at the quarterback position?
- 32:57Speaker 1: I don't trust any of these guys coming out of
- 32:58Speaker 1: college anymore, especially at the quarterback spot. That's the reason
- 33:02Speaker 1: Fernando Mendoza was the best they had to offer, and
- 33:05Speaker 1: the Raiders and Kubiak thought it was best to sit
- 33:08Speaker 1: him for a year behind Kirk Cousins, which I think
- 33:10Speaker 1: was a great decision. But it just shows you the
- 33:13Speaker 1: levels to this. I don't think anybody in the world
- 33:17Speaker 1: is picking Kirk Cousins number one in any draft. But
- 33:20Speaker 1: veteran play is valued in the National Football League, and
- 33:23Speaker 1: putting high-drafted Quarterbacks on teams that haven't won a lot,
- 33:28Speaker 1: I don't know. Yes, there's a world if you get
- 33:32Speaker 1: rid of Justin Herbert where you have to draft a quarterback, sure.
- 33:35Speaker 1: If you don't get rid of Justin Herbert, no, there's
- 33:37Speaker 1: no world where you draft it. You have too many
- 33:39Speaker 1: needs elsewhere.
- 33:40Speaker 2: Let's talk more about the Kansas City Chiefs. This team
- 33:43Speaker 2: looks like their old selves. Is it safe to say
- 33:46Speaker 2: this is the best Chiefs team we've seen in the
- 33:49Speaker 2: last three years? Yeah.
- 33:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's safe to say. Now, I think
- 33:55Speaker 1: they had some teams where the defense might have been
- 33:57Speaker 1: a little better than they're playing right now, a little tighter,
- 34:02Speaker 1: a little bit more talented, a little more veteran in
- 34:05Speaker 1: the back end, but never had a run game like this.
- 34:08Speaker 1: I think Kenneth Walker has the most yards at this
- 34:12Speaker 1: point in the season in Chiefs history. And you got
- 34:17Speaker 1: to respect that. And I think this makes them an
- 34:19Speaker 1: incredibly dangerous team, an incredibly hard team to game plan
- 34:23Speaker 1: for and to beat. if he's playing to this level
- 34:25Speaker 1: and Patrick Mahomes, 23 of 30 for 272, he did
- 34:28Speaker 1: have the interception, no touchdowns in the game, but when
- 34:34Speaker 1: he's playing at this level and he doesn't have the pressure,
- 34:37Speaker 1: the world of expectations on his shoulder, and he could
- 34:39Speaker 1: just turn around and hand the ball off 20 times,
- 34:44Speaker 1: 25 times a game and watch Kenneth Walker work. I
- 34:48Speaker 1: think I don't see anybody in the AFC, you know,
- 34:53Speaker 1: bearing some catastrophic situation. I don't see anybody beating this
- 35:01Speaker 1: team and giving them a lot of trouble. I think
- 35:08Speaker 1: they beat Buffalo, so yeah. Yeah, I think they come
- 35:11Speaker 1: out of the AFC. And unless something crazy happens, I
- 35:15Speaker 1: find it hard to believe that won't happen. They got
- 35:17Speaker 1: the Kansas City Chiefs. I mean, they got the Seattle
- 35:19Speaker 1: Seahawks next week. I think that'll be a good barometer
- 35:23Speaker 1: for that offense. Kenneth Walker, revenge game. Ken, the Seattle Seahawks,
- 35:28Speaker 1: you know Spaggs is going to send a lot of
- 35:31Speaker 1: blitzes at Sam Darnold because he hasn't dealt with the
- 35:33Speaker 1: pressure well. And, you know, Denver did it, and people
- 35:39Speaker 1: are going to continue to pressure him and put people
- 35:41Speaker 1: in his face until he shows that he can do
- 35:43Speaker 1: better with it and he has the answers. and that
- 35:46Speaker 1: Brian Fleury can design some answers into this offense and
- 35:49Speaker 1: protect him better.
- 35:50Speaker 2: This Kansas City Chiefs team, it's like they have a
- 35:52Speaker 2: cheat code offensively with Kenneth Walker behind Patrick Mahomes. Is
- 35:56Speaker 2: it time we put K-9 in the MVP conversation? I
- 35:59Speaker 2: know running backs aren't typically included in that discussion, but
- 36:03Speaker 2: if there was ever a guy, it would be Kenneth Walker.
- 36:06Speaker 2: He's got 759 scrimmage yards. Four games with 100-plus rushing
- 36:10Speaker 2: yards and is averaging 6.3 yards per carry on top
- 36:14Speaker 2: of eight touchdowns through five games, mind you, Richard. These
- 36:18Speaker 2: are impressive statistics. Is he a running back you would
- 36:22Speaker 2: include and give a legitimate opportunity to win the MVP?
- 36:28Speaker 1: It's not happening. They're not giving it to anybody but
- 36:30Speaker 1: a quarterback. They've already established that. He'll win offense player
- 36:33Speaker 1: of the year, and that'll be that. They're not giving...
- 36:37Speaker 1: MVP to anybody, but the quarterback until they take, take
- 36:39Speaker 1: the quarterbacks out of that conversation forward and give the
- 36:42Speaker 1: quarterback separate world ward MVP as a quarterback award. And
- 36:46Speaker 1: they're not really giving anybody else consideration.
- 36:49Speaker 2: Let's go across the pond. The Jacksonville Jaguars played the
- 36:53Speaker 2: Houston Texans, big, big divisional game here in the AFC South.
- 36:58Speaker 2: The Houston Texans came in the day before this game
- 37:01Speaker 2: and the Jags have been there for a couple of weeks, uh,
- 37:05Speaker 2: But it was advantage Houston. Early and often, we saw
- 37:08Speaker 2: a C.J. Stroud we saw a couple years ago. I mean,
- 37:10Speaker 2: it looked like his old self throwing for over 300 yards,
- 37:14Speaker 2: three touchdowns, one interception. They had this game in hand,
- 37:18Speaker 2: and the Jags fought back. Thanks in large part to
- 37:20Speaker 2: Travis Hunter. Here's a guy, again, continues to dominate on
- 37:25Speaker 2: the defensive side of the ball. And then we saw
- 37:26Speaker 2: him sneak in and get in the end zone, becoming
- 37:28Speaker 2: the first player to do that since 2002, Brian Dawkins. Uh,
- 37:32Speaker 2: impressive one for Houston desperate need of a win started. Oh,
- 37:35Speaker 2: and four and now are two and four. How much
- 37:38Speaker 2: of an impact will this game have on the rest
- 37:41Speaker 2: of their season? Do you think Houston is off the mat?
- 37:43Speaker 2: Do you think they can sneak into the playoffs at
- 37:46Speaker 2: this point?
- 37:48Speaker 1: Maybe. I mean, it just shows how up upside down
- 37:51Speaker 1: the league can be at times. CJ Stroud has played
- 37:55Speaker 1: really good football this season. He threw his first interception
- 37:57Speaker 1: of the season in this game. Um, They got Marvin
- 38:03Speaker 1: Harrison Jr. involved. That was cool to see. He looked smooth.
- 38:07Speaker 1: He looked comfortable out there. Obviously, he hasn't had a
- 38:10Speaker 1: ton of work, ton of time to learn their playbook,
- 38:13Speaker 1: so it seemed like they kind of built in a
- 38:15Speaker 1: few plays with him and C. Dre, a few RPO-style
- 38:20Speaker 1: actions to get him comfortable, but that was good to see.
- 38:24Speaker 1: Kaimi Fairbairn had a really good game, obviously, the walk-off.
- 38:28Speaker 1: Their defense... did not play as well as they have
- 38:33Speaker 1: in the past. They did not sack Trevor Lawrence at
- 38:36Speaker 1: all in this game. Gave up 306 yards and four
- 38:41Speaker 1: touchdown passes to Trevor Lawrence. Trevor Lawrence played a really
- 38:43Speaker 1: good game against a good defense. They still have things
- 38:46Speaker 1: they need to clean up, especially in that back end.
- 38:49Speaker 1: The expectations were so high for Houston in that defense
- 38:53Speaker 1: coming into the season, and they have not lived up
- 38:57Speaker 1: to it in any way. I don't really know how
- 39:01Speaker 1: you explain it. I really don't. The players are there.
- 39:04Speaker 1: The talent is there. Kalen Bullock had an interception in
- 39:08Speaker 1: the game. But to keep giving up this many points
- 39:11Speaker 1: each and every week is a concern, and that's the
- 39:14Speaker 1: reason D'Amico Ryan took back the play-calling duties. But Trevor
- 39:20Speaker 1: Lawrence played really well. Jacoby Myers, Bashawl Tootin had his
- 39:27Speaker 1: moments in this game, two touchdown passes. Parker Washington continues
- 39:31Speaker 1: to play well. But Travis Hunter, this is the way
- 39:34Speaker 1: he should have been used. This is the way, this
- 39:36Speaker 1: is all you need to do. Few plays on offense.
- 39:39Speaker 1: I don't know if he played more than 10 snaps
- 39:41Speaker 1: on offense. Had great impact, four catches, 59 yards and
- 39:45Speaker 1: a touchdown. played majority on defense, had a great impact
- 39:51Speaker 1: in interception, three tackles. That's the way you need to
- 39:55Speaker 1: play him. You don't have to play him. The formula's
- 39:58Speaker 1: been proven. It's been done before. They were playing him 60,
- 40:03Speaker 1: 70 snaps on offense to throw him the ball five
- 40:05Speaker 1: times and then playing him 30 snaps on defense, and
- 40:10Speaker 1: then he can get avoided. I like how they're using him.
- 40:13Speaker 1: I think this is the perfect, way to, to maximize
- 40:16Speaker 1: his strengths, to maximize his talent, to get him some
- 40:19Speaker 1: touches on offense, simple ways, uh, on the move slant routes.
- 40:24Speaker 1: He caught it, got up the field, some yak. I
- 40:28Speaker 1: think he can thrive in this role, a handful of
- 40:32Speaker 1: plays on offense, target them on half of them. And
- 40:35Speaker 1: then max full on defense, following the best receiver. He
- 40:39Speaker 1: was following Nico Collins around probably half the game. Um, And,
- 40:43Speaker 1: you know, I think he held his own for the
- 40:45Speaker 1: most part. I loved his interception. Incredible pick. I think
- 40:49Speaker 1: he's living up to all the hype and everything associated
- 40:52Speaker 1: with him. I think the Jacksonville Jaguars have finally figured
- 40:54Speaker 1: out the perfect medium for him, the perfect amount of
- 40:58Speaker 1: plays on both sides of the football where he can
- 41:01Speaker 1: maximize his talent and his impact. I love to see it.
- 41:05Speaker 2: I'm sure the fan base in London loved to see
- 41:08Speaker 2: it as well. The last two weeks, incredible games. We
- 41:10Speaker 2: saw the epic comeback over the Eagles last week with
- 41:13Speaker 2: the Jags and now this shootout as well. So shout
- 41:17Speaker 2: out to the London fans. You guys had to see
- 41:19Speaker 2: some huge, exciting matchups over the last couple of weeks.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Let's take it to the fourth quarter here and get
- 41:25Speaker 2: some quick takes on the remainder of these games. The
- 41:28Speaker 2: New England Patriots improved a 4-2 on the season, knocking
- 41:32Speaker 2: off division foe the New York Jets, who fall to
- 41:35Speaker 2: 2-4 on the season. Drake May, we've talked about it
- 41:38Speaker 2: the last couple weeks. He seemed to have shook off
- 41:41Speaker 2: the early season rust and looks like the quarterback he
- 41:45Speaker 2: was at the tail end of last season. He got A.J.
- 41:48Speaker 2: Brown back in this game, who didn't do a whole lot.
- 41:50Speaker 2: I mean, his other receiving weapon that they required over
- 41:53Speaker 2: the offseason, Romeo Dobbs had a big catch but went
- 41:55Speaker 2: out with a shoulder injury. he relied and leaned on
- 41:58Speaker 2: to Mario Douglas. And we saw a lot of the
- 42:00Speaker 2: Mario Douglas today, seven receptions, 86 yards and a touchdown.
- 42:04Speaker 2: I know they only won by seven Richard, but is
- 42:07Speaker 2: it safe to say the new England Patriots are back
- 42:10Speaker 2: or are the same competitive team we saw last year?
- 42:17Speaker 1: I think they're starting to get there. And Drake may
- 42:19Speaker 1: has seven touchdown passes to no interceptions in the last
- 42:22Speaker 1: two weeks. He's finding his rhythm. Uh, He's finding his confidence.
- 42:27Speaker 1: I think they're finding a nice medium for him to
- 42:31Speaker 1: push the ball down the field, but also kind of
- 42:34Speaker 1: take care of the football. Reminder, Stevenson, they're kind of
- 42:36Speaker 1: leaning on the run game. It's not super effective. They're
- 42:39Speaker 1: not having a lot of success, but they're continuing to
- 42:41Speaker 1: pound it on the ground. Again, he's using his safety blankets. Guys,
- 42:47Speaker 1: he's had a lot of reps with. Demario Douglas is
- 42:50Speaker 1: one of them. Hunter Henry is another. AJ Brown got
- 42:53Speaker 1: a knockoff to Russ. He had three drops in this game.
- 42:55Speaker 1: One of them was over the top, looked like a
- 42:57Speaker 1: dime of a pass, and it almost appeared to go
- 43:00Speaker 1: right through his hands. A couple passes kind of banged
- 43:03Speaker 1: off his hands, and you expect a guy of his
- 43:07Speaker 1: caliber to make those catches, and he will in the future,
- 43:09Speaker 1: I'm sure, but that's a little bit of a concern
- 43:14Speaker 1: for this team. But overall, their defense continues to play really,
- 43:19Speaker 1: really good football. They're a very underrated unit that is
- 43:24Speaker 1: amongst the league leaders in points and yardage and all
- 43:27Speaker 1: the things you want, and you would expect that from
- 43:29Speaker 1: a Mike Vrabel coached team. This team is on the rise.
- 43:32Speaker 1: I look for a really good game next week against
- 43:35Speaker 1: the Chicago Bears. It's going to be on Thursday night.
- 43:37Speaker 1: You can catch us on TNF Tonight. 4 p.m. Pacific,
- 43:42Speaker 1: 7 p.m. Eastern. It's going to be a great game.
- 43:45Speaker 1: Caleb Williams is going to be. Caleb Williams versus Drake May,
- 43:48Speaker 1: great quarterback matchup. But I think I'm interested to see
- 43:51Speaker 1: Caleb Williams versus this New England Patriots defense. It's going
- 43:54Speaker 1: to be a fun game. The Jets, again, didn't have
- 43:59Speaker 1: high expectations for the Jets. I think they've battled in
- 44:01Speaker 1: every game that they've been in. I think Geno has
- 44:06Speaker 1: played solid football. Braylon Allen had his best game of
- 44:09Speaker 1: the season. The season, Omar Cooper Jr., who's been banged
- 44:14Speaker 1: up throughout this season, had his best game of his
- 44:16Speaker 1: young career, six receptions, 103 yards and a touchdown. One
- 44:20Speaker 1: of them was a bomb from Geno Smith. You know,
- 44:23Speaker 1: they're playing competitive football, and you've got to give them
- 44:25Speaker 1: credit for that. They're not finding ways to win these games. But, again,
- 44:30Speaker 1: this is a team we expected to draft early again
- 44:33Speaker 1: in the draft. They're competitive each and every week.
- 44:35Speaker 2: We'll see if they– you know, what they do in
- 44:38Speaker 2: off season. This is a team that could be on
- 44:40Speaker 2: the rise in the near future. We were talking about
- 44:42Speaker 2: it before we got on the pod. For those that
- 44:44Speaker 2: don't know, the Jets hold three first round picks. They
- 44:46Speaker 2: got their own. They got the Colts via the Sauce
- 44:49Speaker 2: Gardner trade. And then they got the Dallas Cowboys via
- 44:52Speaker 2: the Quinton Williams trade. These, all these picks right now
- 44:55Speaker 2: are on the top 15. So look out for the Jets,
- 44:58Speaker 2: a team that obviously needs a quarterback going into next season.
- 45:01Speaker 2: Gino Smith holding it down and making this team competitive
- 45:03Speaker 2: and at least fun to watch. I got to believe
- 45:06Speaker 2: the Jets are going to be on the rise here
- 45:07Speaker 2: in years to come. Let's talk about the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 45:11Speaker 2: They go into Tampa Bay and steal a win from
- 45:14Speaker 2: Jalen Daniels and this scrappy Buccaneers team. Jalen Daniels, man,
- 45:20Speaker 2: he has come in and really has provided a spark
- 45:23Speaker 2: to this Tampa offense, has made this team very competitive.
- 45:26Speaker 2: Unfortunately for them, Aaron Rodgers looked like vintage Aaron Rodgers,
- 45:31Speaker 2: got his receivers involved. DK Metcalf, 11 catches this game
- 45:35Speaker 2: Haven't seen that for a couple years. And then the rookie,
- 45:38Speaker 2: Jeremy Bernard out of Alabama by way of Michigan State.
- 45:41Speaker 2: I got to put that in there. 11 receptions, 87 yards,
- 45:45Speaker 2: and a touchdown. But I want to talk about the
- 45:49Speaker 2: coaching down the stretch of this game. The Pittsburgh Steelers
- 45:53Speaker 2: took over the ball at possession at the four-yard line
- 45:56Speaker 2: of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with just under two minutes
- 45:59Speaker 2: left in this game. Tampa had two timeouts, and they
- 46:03Speaker 2: The Steelers end up settling for a field goal after
- 46:06Speaker 2: throwing the ball twice and rushing the ball once, giving
- 46:09Speaker 2: the Bucs back the ball with about a minute 30 left.
- 46:14Speaker 2: Mike McCarthy, I mean, walk me through, how do you
- 46:16Speaker 2: justify those coaching decisions down the stretch? Simple thing, it
- 46:21Speaker 2: tells me, run the football three times, let the Buccaneers
- 46:24Speaker 2: burn their timeouts, get in the end zone, turn the
- 46:27Speaker 2: ball back over to an undrafted free agent rookie in
- 46:30Speaker 2: Jalen Daniels and see what he can do with it. Instead,
- 46:33Speaker 2: they let these guys off the hook. Jalen Daniels forces OT.
- 46:37Speaker 2: What was Mike McCarthy thinking?
- 46:41Speaker 1: I don't know if he was thinking. And I also
- 46:45Speaker 1: don't know how much of it was Mike McCarthy and
- 46:47Speaker 1: not Aaron Rodgers. And I think that's where that dynamic
- 46:51Speaker 1: gets a little murky because there is some autonomy that
- 46:54Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers has given in the game. And it's hard
- 46:59Speaker 1: to know if this is Aaron, if this is Mike,
- 47:02Speaker 1: but Mike's the head coach, so he has to take responsibility.
- 47:06Speaker 1: I'm sure he talked about it after the game. Definitely
- 47:08Speaker 1: a mistake. Should have ran the ball, especially in the
- 47:11Speaker 1: way Jalen Warren has been running the football. And Rico Dowdle,
- 47:14Speaker 1: for that matter. I mean, either one of those guys
- 47:18Speaker 1: I think could have probably got it in from there.
- 47:22Speaker 1: But this game was really cool for Jalen Daniel. He
- 47:26Speaker 1: was in control. He was in command throughout three quarters
- 47:29Speaker 1: of this game. And then in the fourth quarter, it
- 47:31Speaker 1: all kind of just fell apart for him. And I
- 47:33Speaker 1: know this was bittersweet for Jamil Dean, the guy who's
- 47:35Speaker 1: been with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers his entire career, and
- 47:40Speaker 1: he had to pick to bring it all the way.
- 47:42Speaker 1: And Jalen Daniel saved the day. You know, he makes
- 47:45Speaker 1: the tackle right there to stop Jamil Dean from having
- 47:49Speaker 1: probably a prophetic moment for him if he would have
- 47:52Speaker 1: scored that to beat his former team in a big game,
- 47:55Speaker 1: to send them to 1-5. I mean, Pittsburgh ends up
- 47:59Speaker 1: winning the game, so it all ends up working out
- 48:01Speaker 1: the same, but That would have been crazy. I really
- 48:04Speaker 1: don't know what the Tampa Bay Buccaneers do from here.
- 48:06Speaker 1: Jalen Daniels played solid football. I mean, as well as
- 48:10Speaker 1: you could expect an undrafted rookie to play in a
- 48:12Speaker 1: game like this. But there aren't a lot of positives
- 48:18Speaker 1: in this game. I mean, David Walker had two sacks.
- 48:20Speaker 1: Reuben Bain gets his first sack of his career. Had
- 48:25Speaker 1: a tip pass that got intercepted by A'shaun Robinson. But...
- 48:35Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know what they're going to do.
- 48:37Speaker 1: They're 1-5, and I think this team had high expectations,
- 48:41Speaker 1: especially when you pay Baker Mayfield. I know there's frustration
- 48:44Speaker 1: all around. I think Todd Bowles and his defense have
- 48:47Speaker 1: played well this season. Their stats support that. He's a
- 48:50Speaker 1: defensive coach. They've played really well. They sacked Aaron Rodgers
- 48:53Speaker 1: five times in this game. I know you said he
- 48:57Speaker 1: was looking like vintage Aaron Rodgers. maybe in the fourth quarter.
- 49:00Speaker 1: I can believe that, but they were beating him up
- 49:02Speaker 1: in this game. You got to respect him for continuing
- 49:05Speaker 1: to get up every time he got knocked down. He
- 49:07Speaker 1: started to find DK Metcalf in that fourth quarter, who
- 49:10Speaker 1: ended up with 11 receptions for 93 yards. I think
- 49:13Speaker 1: they started to feed him early and often. They they
- 49:16Speaker 1: smelled blood in the water and they start going after
- 49:19Speaker 1: it this team is starting to find themselves I think
- 49:22Speaker 1: they got a tough game with with Tyler Shuck and
- 49:25Speaker 1: the Saints next week but they the way they're playing
- 49:27Speaker 1: defensively Jalen Ramsey 10 combined tackles two sacks in the
- 49:31Speaker 1: game especially including the game winner the game ceiling sack
- 49:36Speaker 1: uh in overtime I They're a veteran defense, and they
- 49:42Speaker 1: show up in big moments. I just, you just, it's
- 49:47Speaker 1: hard to trust any team right now in the National
- 49:50Speaker 1: Football League, week to week. It's a week to week league.
- 49:54Speaker 2: It is hard. The good ones and the bad ones.
- 49:56Speaker 2: I mean, this next game, Tennessee Titans. Everyone thought the
- 49:59Speaker 2: Indianapolis Colts were going to be 3-3, back to 500,
- 50:04Speaker 2: have a snowball's chance to win this division, at least
- 50:06Speaker 2: keep it competitive. They lose at home to this Titans team,
- 50:11Speaker 2: who scored 23 unanswered points in the second half. You
- 50:16Speaker 2: got any comments here? I mean, the Colts, I don't
- 50:19Speaker 2: know what they're thinking. You know, they make this huge
- 50:21Speaker 2: investment in Sauce Gardner, and this team is just sputtering.
- 50:25Speaker 2: Your thoughts on this game?
- 50:27Speaker 1: Well, I thought that was a bad move when they
- 50:29Speaker 1: made it. I thought they were already a solid defense.
- 50:31Speaker 1: I didn't think that move helped them. Again, I'm a
- 50:34Speaker 1: fan of corners that just take the football away at
- 50:37Speaker 1: a high tilt. If you don't take the football away
- 50:39Speaker 1: at a high tilt, I don't think it's worth trading
- 50:41Speaker 1: for you because what big difference are you going to
- 50:45Speaker 1: make on this team? But this was a bad loss,
- 50:50Speaker 1: and Daniel Jones struggled mightily in this game. Jonathan Taylor
- 50:54Speaker 1: continues to be what Jonathan Taylor has been, a great
- 50:57Speaker 1: running back, 21 carries for 94 yards and a touchdown,
- 51:00Speaker 1: averaged 4.5 a carry at two receptions. For 57 yards.
- 51:04Speaker 1: Did lose that fumble in the game. And you can't
- 51:08Speaker 1: have that. Cam Ward. Again. Very uninspiring statistics. Very uninspired game.
- 51:17Speaker 1: 11 for 22. 102 yards. A touchdown and an interception.
- 51:20Speaker 1: Tony Pollard. 19 carries for 76 yards. Again. The Titans win.
- 51:25Speaker 2: Cool.
- 51:26Speaker 1: They race the 13-0 halftime deficit. The block punt. and
- 51:33Speaker 1: the block punt that got returned for a touchdown, the
- 51:36Speaker 1: 58-yard punt return by Shamir Dike that set up Tate's touchdown. Great.
- 51:47Speaker 1: The defense had six sacks. I know Robert Salo felt
- 51:49Speaker 1: great about that. Three takeaways. A lot of things to
- 51:52Speaker 1: celebrate on that side of the football. But I think
- 51:55Speaker 1: you look at this game, even when you win, and
- 51:57Speaker 1: you say, is Cam worth a guy at quarterback? Is
- 52:02Speaker 1: he going to be the guy? Is he our future?
- 52:04Speaker 1: And when you got to keep asking that question, he's not.
- 52:09Speaker 1: And I know everybody was like, oh, man, he was
- 52:12Speaker 1: just that way in Miami. That's just kind of the
- 52:14Speaker 1: way he plays. It does not work. That standing still,
- 52:18Speaker 1: like nonchalant play style does not work in the National
- 52:21Speaker 1: Football League. And until he shows results, it's going to
- 52:25Speaker 1: get criticized. And I'm going to criticize and everybody else should.
- 52:28Speaker 1: Because it's not producing wins. It's not producing results. He's
- 52:31Speaker 1: not throwing for a major yardage. And they have to
- 52:36Speaker 1: start looking at the future like maybe there's a chance
- 52:39Speaker 1: they get a quarterback in the next draft.
- 52:42Speaker 2: It's hard to disagree with you. On the other side
- 52:45Speaker 2: of this, going back to Indianapolis, this locker room, there's
- 52:49Speaker 2: some question marks. One of your former teammates, DeForest Buckner,
- 52:52Speaker 2: sounded off after the game saying, I'm sick and tired
- 52:54Speaker 2: of the same old song and dance every year I
- 52:59Speaker 2: know you've got a ton amount of respect for DeForest Buckner.
- 53:01Speaker 2: How tough is it? And I know you haven't been
- 53:03Speaker 2: on a ton of teams like this, but how difficult
- 53:06Speaker 2: is it as a veteran to be suffering with a
- 53:10Speaker 2: season like this and knowing that ultimately it's not going
- 53:13Speaker 2: to end up in success?
- 53:16Speaker 1: Well, I would guess it's incredibly frustrating. But if I'm
- 53:22Speaker 1: DeForest Buckner, I'd be looking longingly at the team that's
- 53:27Speaker 1: number one in both of our power rankings. And I
- 53:30Speaker 1: would be saying, I remember a song and dance I
- 53:33Speaker 1: used to do with somebody that used to know my
- 53:36Speaker 1: favorite song and my favorite dance. And they drafted me
- 53:39Speaker 1: to do the dance. And he got to do the
- 53:42Speaker 1: dance and the big dance with this team. And this
- 53:45Speaker 1: team is on the track to potentially go to that
- 53:49Speaker 1: big dance again. Will DeForest Buckner ask for maybe a
- 53:55Speaker 1: path out Do the San Francisco 49ers have interest in that?
- 54:00Speaker 1: I don't know. I know there's a number of contenders
- 54:03Speaker 1: that would potentially be interested in a guy of his caliber,
- 54:06Speaker 1: no question about that. But I know San Francisco, this
- 54:09Speaker 1: has been a year of bringing their favorite sons back home,
- 54:13Speaker 1: whether it's Deebo Samuel, Dre Greenlaw. Does DeForest Buckner add
- 54:19Speaker 1: to that list? Maybe. This is all speculatory, people. I
- 54:23Speaker 1: don't know nothing. I haven't heard anything. I just think
- 54:30Speaker 1: if the Colts are buyers or sellers right now, John
- 54:34Speaker 1: Lynch just said he works the phones all day right
- 54:36Speaker 1: before the trade deadline, hearing offers, figuring out, filling it out.
- 54:41Speaker 1: If he's available, maybe the 49ers have enough cap space.
- 54:44Speaker 1: Maybe there's ways you can maneuver things to make room
- 54:47Speaker 1: for him. And yes, I do think there's a spot
- 54:50Speaker 1: in the middle of that defensive line for DeForest Buckner.
- 54:53Speaker 1: that he could fit very well, even with the development
- 54:56Speaker 1: of Grayson Holden, even with Adigie Zua and everybody you got.
- 55:01Speaker 1: It's never too much, never too much, never too much
- 55:04Speaker 1: when you got pass rushes, Mitchell.
- 55:07Speaker 2: Richard, this is how rumors start. I'd like to caution
- 55:10Speaker 2: you with that. The trade deadline is a few weeks away,
- 55:13Speaker 2: week 10. And I got a sneaky suspicion we're going
- 55:17Speaker 2: to see some stuff on 49ers blog sites, rumors. DeForest Buckner,
- 55:23Speaker 2: a 49er again, per Richard Sherman. We shall see. That's
- 55:28Speaker 2: how it starts. Let's talk about the New York.
- 55:31Speaker 1: It's a great.
- 55:31Speaker 2: It is a good fit. I'm not even going to
- 55:33Speaker 2: debate that. I think it would be a heck of
- 55:34Speaker 2: a pickup for them would make a ton of sense.
- 55:38Speaker 2: I applaud you for that. And clearly it's been working
- 55:40Speaker 2: with Debo and Greenlaw. So Adam, one more to the
- 55:43Speaker 2: mix might make it all that better. Let's talk about
- 55:46Speaker 2: the New York football Giants taking on the New Orleans Saints.
- 55:49Speaker 2: This game, it started off 10-0 Giants. It looks like
- 55:52Speaker 2: they were in control. Tyler Schuch took over, led them
- 55:55Speaker 2: to 34 unanswered points. This led to the benching of
- 55:58Speaker 2: Jameis Winston. Insert J.J. McCarthy, who throws for over 240
- 56:04Speaker 2: yards in the fourth quarter alone. Do we have a
- 56:07Speaker 2: QB competition?
- 56:11Speaker 1: I guess. I guess. Yeah.
- 56:13Speaker 2: I mean, we got to talk about this. This AFC
- 56:16Speaker 2: East is kind of a dumping ground. I'm sorry. This
- 56:20Speaker 2: NFC East is a dumping ground right now. These New
- 56:23Speaker 2: York Giants, I don't know what the Vegas odds are
- 56:27Speaker 2: right now, but I got to believe the Giants are
- 56:29Speaker 2: firmly in that mix to win this division. Can JJ
- 56:32Speaker 2: McCarthy be that guy to take him to the promised land?
- 56:37Speaker 1: It's worth a shot. It's worth a shot. Again, Neither one, Jameis,
- 56:43Speaker 1: you never know what you're going to get. Box of chocolates. J.J. McCarthy,
- 56:47Speaker 1: you never know what you're going to get. Box of chocolates.
- 56:50Speaker 1: So play whoever you want, Mitchell. I think Malik Nabors,
- 56:54Speaker 1: throw the ball to Malik Nabors early and often. They
- 56:57Speaker 1: throw it to him I think 11 times in this game,
- 56:59Speaker 1: or he had 11 receptions in this game. He's a
- 57:01Speaker 1: guy you got to get involved. Give the Saints a
- 57:05Speaker 1: ton of credit. Alvin Kamara, did you see that reception
- 57:08Speaker 1: he had where he just was like, oh, oh. Smooth.
- 57:11Speaker 1: Knock me off. Step over you. Touchdown. He's one of
- 57:15Speaker 1: the most smooth runners in the history of the National
- 57:18Speaker 1: Football League. Tyler Shaw had a bit of a rough outing,
- 57:23Speaker 1: but threw three touchdown passes, you know, 16 to 30
- 57:27Speaker 1: for 144 yards, but three touchdown passes. That Giants defense
- 57:31Speaker 1: is better than they, they're better than people give them
- 57:36Speaker 1: credit for. And I know, again, the numbers aren't showing
- 57:38Speaker 1: in this game. I mean, they held him in the
- 57:40Speaker 1: past game, but I think this Giants defense is better
- 57:44Speaker 1: than people think. I wish they would have had this game.
- 57:47Speaker 1: I think the Houston Texans going to the Giants, that
- 57:49Speaker 1: Houston Texans-Giants game, good luck with that one because Houston's
- 57:54Speaker 1: starting to roll offensively, and you got question marks defensively.
- 58:00Speaker 1: You got question marks on the offensive line. I think
- 58:04Speaker 1: Houston wins that game, but what do I know? Because
- 58:07Speaker 1: I couldn't know that. I was 8-8 this week.
- 58:09Speaker 2: You're 50-50. I mean, flip a quarter, you might be right, Richard.
- 58:13Speaker 2: Alvin Kamara, you talked about him. He has over 5,000
- 58:17Speaker 2: receiving yards on his career. I believe he's the eighth
- 58:20Speaker 2: running back in NFL history to have over 5,000 rushing
- 58:23Speaker 2: yards and 5,000 receiving yards in a career. I'm sorry,
- 58:27Speaker 2: sixth player ever. Alvin Kamara, hat tip to him. Incredible career.
- 58:32Speaker 2: He's still getting it done, and he might have to continue.
- 58:35Speaker 2: We'll see how long Travis Etienne is out for as
- 58:38Speaker 2: this Saints team tries to make this division race a
- 58:41Speaker 2: tight one. Let's talk about another team in the NFC South,
- 58:46Speaker 2: and that's Carolina Panthers. This team might be sneaky good.
- 58:50Speaker 2: I don't know what to think about them. They go
- 58:51Speaker 2: on the road. Obviously, the Eagles have a ton of
- 58:53Speaker 2: question marks right now. Tanner McKee, under center, former Stanford tree.
- 58:59Speaker 2: Go Cardinal. Eagles make it somewhat competitive late in this game.
- 59:06Speaker 2: But the Panthers end up pulling away. Before we get
- 59:08Speaker 2: into the game, let's talk a little bit about Jalen Hurts.
- 59:12Speaker 2: Prior to him going on AIR with this blood clot
- 59:15Speaker 2: in his calf, we had talked about whether the Eagles
- 59:19Speaker 2: were punting on the season. Now it certainly looks like
- 59:22Speaker 2: they might have to. What does the outlook look for
- 59:24Speaker 2: the Philadelphia Eagles the rest of the season. Do you
- 59:26Speaker 2: think the division race is even in question for them
- 59:30Speaker 2: at this point?
- 59:33Speaker 1: I think it's in question because of how inconsistent the
- 59:36Speaker 1: Giants are and the Cowboys and the Commanders, I mean,
- 59:40Speaker 1: for that matter. So even with all the chaos that's
- 59:43Speaker 1: going on in Philadelphia and Jalen Hurts going to IR
- 59:46Speaker 1: and them losing this game, I think the Carolina Panthers
- 59:49Speaker 1: are a better team than people give them credit, especially offensively.
- 59:52Speaker 1: Bryce Young has found himself, and David Canales has unlocked
- 59:57Speaker 1: him in a big-time way. He's having a great season,
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: 281 passing yards, two touchdowns to Tommy Trimble. Never thought
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: we'd be talking about that from this perspective. But Chubba Herbert,
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: 120 yards rushing, one touchdown. Their offense is great. Their
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: offense has, I mean, this is a low scoring game
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: for this offense. And I think that's where the frustration
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: is for the Philadelphia Eagles defense. Because there's still a
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: lot of really talented guys on that defense. You got
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: Jalen Carter. You got Zach Bond. You got Quinion Mitchell
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: back there. You got a lot of guys, multiple all
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: pros that are still playing and they're playing hard. And so,
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: I'm sure there is frustration, but there's also hope because
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: the way this season's going for everybody else. The Giants
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: aren't just running away with this. They don't even know
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: who their quarterback's going to be next week. So I
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: think if you're the Philadelphia Eagles, you feel like, hey,
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: Tanner McKee played solid, you know, not perfect. Devontae Smith
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: is getting back in. Damian Pierce is starting to find himself.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: I think you feel good that hey, we're in a
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: division that's kind of like the NFC South of years
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: past where maybe a team with less than a 500
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: record goes to the playoffs.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: It's certainly looking that way. Let's talk more about the
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: Chicago Bears. They go on the road to Atlanta. They
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: get out to a 31-7 lead. And this game almost
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: falls apart late. The Atlanta Falcons storm back. But what
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: was your thoughts about Caleb Williams' first game back? after
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: his devastating hamstring injury. Emphasis on the devastating.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: Mitchell. And Mitchell, emphasis on the devastating. After seeing Caleb
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: Williams on that cart, Mitchell, it's great to see him
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: go 30 of 36 for 305 in a touchdown, open
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: the game perfect 12 of 12 for 142 yards. Mitchell,
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: when he was on that cart with that towel over
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: his head, you would have never thought three weeks later
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: he'd start the game off perfect. Guy was moving really well,
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: outside of the pocket, found– Colston Loveland for a 14-yard touchdown.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: A guy who I like, Kyler Gordon, former UW Husky,
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: had three sacks, two forced fumbles. That defense played really
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: well in this game, made big plays, and that's the
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: part of this game that I was really appreciative of.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: But again, they kind of fell apart in the second half,
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: kind of took their foot off the gas, let the
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: Falcons come back a little bit. But Michael Penix, You know, 19-33, 225,
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: three touchdowns. Again, some of it was kind of garbage time-ish.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: I thought the Atlanta Falcons would put up a better
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: fight in this game. I thought they would do more
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: in this game and give themselves a chance on the
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: other side of the football, but give Caleb Williams, Ben Johnson,
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: and all those guys a ton of credit. When they're
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: all together and they're healthy, They're a very formidable team.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: Caleb Williams played one of the best games of his
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: season today. And I look forward to seeing them against
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: the Patriots next week on Thursday.
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: Well, as the Bears improve to 4-2, you know what
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: time it is, Richard. It's time for the Chicago fan
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: base to start asking you, where are they in your
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: top five of your power ranks? I mean, these teams
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: look competent. You know that conversation is coming in the chats.
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: So why don't you answer it now? Is Chicago... Are
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: they that dangerous of a team? Should they be viewed
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: in that upper echelon of competitors in this NFL?
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: Let me go back to last week.
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: You know the conversation's coming. That's why I'm bringing this
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: conversation up right now.
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: No, no, no. We're going to bring up last week
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: because I get tired of these people, and I really
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: do get tired of these people. They got beat 31-7
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: in Green Bay last week. 31 to seven. They had
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: a good game against Atlanta about 31 to seven. Now, uh,
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: mind you, Tyson Bajan played, did not play defense 31
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: to seven. I'll let you know what, if they in
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: my power rankings, when I fully assess everybody, but let's,
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: let's not get crazy. It is a week to week league.
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: That's what I don't get. They played well this week.
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: What they're going to do next week, what they're going
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: to do on Thursday. We will see. Um, If they
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: show another great defensive performance, Caleb Williams continues to play
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: like he's played, lights out, then, yeah, we'll throw them
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: in there. We'll throw them in there at five. Okay.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: But we're going to see. But let's settle down all
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: these fans, some of these teams, because that's just what
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: happened with Jacksonville. You know, you keep crying for us
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: to put them in there. We put them in there.
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: Then y'all go to London and Houston has their way. Okay. Okay. Well,
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: it's time.
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: It's time for Fresh from the Oven takes brought to
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: you by DiGiorno. Just like a pizza fresh out of
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: the oven, these takes are hot, fresh, and ready for
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: Monday night. Let's break down the matchup between the San
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: Francisco 49ers and the Washington Commanders. Richard, what is your
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: hottest take about this Monday night matchup between the Niners
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: and Commanders?
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: Hottest take. Romello Height has two sacks. I think that's
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: a hot take. I want that for the kid.
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: Romello Height, a rookie. Okay, we shall see. A lot
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: of big names playing in this game. Obviously, Jaden Daniels
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: back with his injury. Going to be wearing some sort
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: of an arm guard there. But the San Francisco 49ers
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: team is loaded. Which player do you think is going
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: to have the biggest factor in this game?
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: Brock Purdy. It's going to be Brock Purdy. Whether... who
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: wins and loses this game will be on Brock Purdy.
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: If he doesn't play well and he turns the football over,
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: that'll dictate this game. But I think he'll play well.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: He'll be a big part of the reason the San
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: Francisco 49ers win. But Brock Purdy will be the guy
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: I think has the biggest impact.
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: Is there any shot this Commander's team travels cross-country and
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: gets the win on Monday night?
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: There's always a shot. The way the league's been going
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: this year, They beat the Seattle Seahawks and put up
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: 33 points against a really good defense. It would not
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: surprise me. It would surprise me. But the way this
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: year has gone, we will see. People have to play
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: up to the standard that they can play and not
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: down to their competition. If the San Francisco 49ers don't
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: play down to their competition, I think they win this.
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: When you sit down on your couch and get ready
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: to watch this game, what type of DiGiorno pizza are
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: you popping in the oven?
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: It's always pepperoni, Mitchell. And I'm going to put a
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: little extra Parmesan cheese on it. You know, a little
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: Parmesan cheese. Maybe a sprinkle. Maybe a sprinkle of garlic.
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: That's just me. You know, I need a little garlic
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: on mine.
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: Give me the Hawaiian, Richard. That's my go-to, the Hawaiian.
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: I need you to try that one of these times.
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: Those were fresh from the oven takes brought to you
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: by DiGiorno. Make Monday night pizza night with fresh from
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: the oven taste. It's not delivery. It's DiGiorno.
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: And stick with us after the game, because we're obviously
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: going to do a recap after this game, no matter
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: what happens. Please join us afterwards to talk about what happened.
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: Richard, it's always a pleasure sitting down with you every week,
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: every Sunday night. This concludes our week six reaction podcast.
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: I'll let you close us out, my friend.
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: As always, we appreciate you guys joining us. You could
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: be anywhere in the world, but you're here with us.
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: This show continues to grow and it's thanks to all
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: of you. Please keep giving us love. Please keep giving
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: us support. It is felt and appreciated. We will see
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: you next time.
