- 1:15four finger Discount this week where hits review episode J A B F zero one.
- 1:18It is Killed Gills Volumes one and two. Iron Dando, I am
- 1:22guy, and I'm looking over at my man Dando here, and he's got
- 1:25this kind of look on his face, like do we really have to talk
- 1:27about this episode? I get the feeling he was not all that mad.
- 1:30I'm Not Kill Gill Volumes one and two. This didn't bother me in the
- 1:34sense of like Code Pennants Day anything like that. I just felt this one
- 1:37was just I've got here. I was just disappointed because you know, I
- 1:41always have a soft spot for the Christmas episodes, right, but I struggled
- 1:44with this one because it's the same old thing. Right. In their prime,
- 1:47the Simpsons had a core cast of the family and a whole bunch of
- 1:51sort of secondary characters were to be a Pooh Skinner Burns the core secondary characters,
- 1:55and then there was just all these extras that would be popping up occasional,
- 1:57usually for a line or two, like Guy and Old Gil is an
- 2:00example of that character. Right to use your football analogy, You've got your
- 2:04starting eighteen, you got your reserves, and you got your emergencies. And
- 2:09yes, these characters like Gil is an emergency. Yes, I'd say even
- 2:15like Lionel Huts for example, He's another example of he pops up occasionally and
- 2:20he serves his purpose and he moves on. We don't know much about his
- 2:23life, and that's where it was for Gil until this episode, and these
- 2:25characters. The best thing about him is you don't know all that much about
- 2:30them. You just get the best bits of them when you do deep.
- 2:32Of course, now they're in season eighteen, they need to come up with
- 2:35fresh ideas, new concepts and things like that, and we start getting deep
- 2:38dives and characters like come book guy we've mentioned and things like that. This
- 2:42character Gil didn't need this because for me, no one came out of this
- 2:46episode looking better than going in. I know that they tried to build up
- 2:51sympathy for him again at the end with Marj's ruining his beak, sort of
- 2:53like Hohobla in Stocksdale, whatever it was. But the thing is, you
- 2:57watched his first two thirds of this episode, and all this time you always
- 3:00feel sorry for old Gill. But then when you watch this, you're like,
- 3:02all this stuff that happens to him is kind of deserved. It kind
- 3:07of brings it on himself. And that's not what I needed to know.
- 3:08I just needed it to be like, you know, he's a good guy,
- 3:12but things just don't go right for him here. It's like, oh,
- 3:14he's actually a really he's a mutuary in paying the arts. Yeah,
- 3:16it's terrible that they sort of did that, Isn't that because I mean,
- 3:20yeah, there's an analogy I use back in my reviewing days about you know,
- 3:23certain supporting characters or supporting actors. They're a bit like masabi. They're
- 3:28a bit like that lovely hot spice that you have with your Japanese food.
- 3:31It's like a little bit, Oh, you've really made the meal. Oh
- 3:34I can. I enjoyed that so much, and you've just out of that
- 3:37nice touch of spice. You put too much masabi on your on your sushi.
- 3:40This is inedible and I don't like it, and I never wanted anymore.
- 3:44So, yeah, you can't have too much. Oh, you can't
- 3:46have too much of a good thing. No. And Gil, up to
- 3:50this point has always been a favorite of mine ever since he's I thought,
- 3:53I've always said here on the he's the best post Golden New character they've created,
- 3:57right, Gil, But you watch this and you're just like, oh,
- 3:59you've you've killed the vision. And what I liked about the character was
- 4:01that I always thought he was just this nice guy that you just gotta love
- 4:05him. Things just don't go right for poor old girl. No, he's
- 4:09just not a very not he's a bad person, but he's just we all
- 4:13have that one person in our lives. You're just like, I love you,
- 4:15but you know you just fucking using me. You know, you go
- 4:17from person to person to person to person, get what you can. Once
- 4:20they stop giving it to you, just find the next sap. There's a
- 4:24great line in the quite underrated comedy Hot Tub Time Machine. Yeah, they're
- 4:28talking about one of the characters who's ended up in hospital some misadventure, and
- 4:32one of the other guys says, you know how in your group of friends,
- 4:35you got that one asshole. He's our asshole. And yeah, I
- 4:41mean yeah, Gil has always come across as someone who just can't catch a
- 4:45break, And what this episode sort of conveyed is it might be kind of
- 4:47his fault. It is his, even if they try to reckcon a bit
- 4:51later on and just have him as an occasional not one note gag, but
- 4:58just a fleeting gag about O girls got at this time. Oh no,
- 5:00it's not gone, Gills way. It's like it's tainted forever because we've got
- 5:04this history, you know. And yeah, not everyone needs backstory. I'd
- 5:10say a lot of people don't need backstory, and they serve their purpose in
- 5:13just providing a certain gag a certain tone, a certain something like we were
- 5:20excited somewhat by the idea of the book of Boba fat But then when he
- 5:24watched the episode, it's like, ah, Boba Fett was just better.
- 5:26When he didn't take the mask off, Mando lost its charm. I think
- 5:29when he took his mask off, I was like, ahh, it's not
- 5:31really the same. It's just a guy in a suit. You need a
- 5:34little room to dream, you need a little room for your own imagination to
- 5:38run right. And you know, like I wonder what gils backstory is,
- 5:42you know, And that's when you have, as I had to say at
- 5:45three am at the dorm room, conversations about oh what if you is like
- 5:47this or what if yous like that? But no, to sort of have
- 5:49something come in like this, And this isn't necessarily giving him backstory, but
- 5:55it is fleshing him out and showing you that the true Gill. Yeah,
- 5:59why I thinks go right for him because he brings it upon himself pretty much.
- 6:01Why no one wants to help him because he help him. He just
- 6:04takes everything. Oh having said that, I mean it is actually really nice
- 6:08at the start, where you know he's like, oh, this little girl,
- 6:11he wants this gift. I think there's a spare one in the back,
- 6:13although it's showing that he's clearly not too broke as if there's one in
- 6:15the back. But you know, we don't do the same. So that's
- 6:18what I was saying. They were trying to build sympathy from them, trying
- 6:20to he's not a bad guy, but it's just like the second things aren't
- 6:23going right for him, it's like you try and help him, he'll just
- 6:25like reach that as much as he can. Yeah, And I mean,
- 6:28I think it would have been better for the episode. And I know we're
- 6:30doing a lot of quote unquote fixing episodes lately, but I think something I
- 6:33think was missing from this episode was having a bit of ebb and flow where
- 6:38it's like he does something good. The Simpsons are like, oh, where
- 6:42we feel sympathy. You know, come and sleep on our couch for a
- 6:44little while you've ever stayed, You're welcome girl. But then he does something
- 6:46good against like, oh, well he can't be all that bad. Upstands
- 6:49upstowns, upstands and then he finally leaves. But unfortunately we didn't get that.
- 6:55It was just oh, much, much, much much mooch all the
- 6:57way through. It's like, I think they did a bit of ask covering
- 7:00as well. I mean there's a scene where Homer goes to the bar and
- 7:02I think it's Carl says, well, you can't kick him out. It's
- 7:04like, why can't Home kick him out? I mean, I know that
- 7:09you've established that this is kind of a March storyline where it's like, she
- 7:13says, a girl, I can't say no. Yeah, she needs to
- 7:15sort of stand upstander for her stuff. Yeah, yeah, which I felt
- 7:19kind of out of left feel. It's like, I get the feeling there
- 7:23could have been ways you could have integrated Marge's personality into her desire not to
- 7:28kick Guild of the curb. We already had this story with the shut up
- 7:30Becky. It was just a rehash. I know, we can't we said
- 7:35last week. I think it was you can't keep touching the rehashes. But
- 7:40these two stories, this didn't seem to work well together. And this whole
- 7:43story being what essentially been became a Marge niece to get her independence and show
- 7:47how strong she is. Story didn't fit the Christmas theme and the gill Are
- 7:51no No I mean that's the that's the other thing. I mean, this
- 7:54is clearly how is this a Christmas present? As a Christmas episode not a
- 7:58Christmas episode? And it's not You're right, see, I mean the beginning
- 8:01and the end at Christmas, the rest everything in between is not at Christmas.
- 8:03And how is it a Christmas episode? You know? Yeah, it
- 8:07doesn't have Christmas trappings or trimmings. No, it doesn't really have Christmas ideas,
- 8:11just have the vibe of a Christmas episode. Well that's the thing.
- 8:13I mean, like I said, how long of it? Yeah, it's
- 8:16the beginning of the end. The rest of us just a year. Yeah,
- 8:18and it started strong with the Christmas opening I'd really enjoyed. Apparently it's
- 8:22only the second time ever besides Trios of Horror, where the opening sort of
- 8:26like intro was changed to the theme. I really I was like, oh,
- 8:30this is cool, this is different, is fresh, and then just,
- 8:33I don't know, not great. That's what I was just more left
- 8:35disappointed by this one. I think, I think I have to agree with
- 8:39you. I look, I think it might have had good bones in certain
- 8:43ways. I mean, there is an idea around Christmas about you know,
- 8:46giving rather than receiving and you know, peace on earth and good will to
- 8:50war men in this case, Gil, do you think because they had because
- 8:52girls based on Jimmy, that they wanted to have a Christmas episode like this
- 8:58because he's based on Jimmy Stewart. Is he based on Jimmy Stewart? Because
- 9:01I think the feeling he's more sort of the main thing that I've always gotten
- 9:05from Gill. And I don't when was he introduced. I mean, the
- 9:07voice, isn't the voice based on Jimmy Stewart. I always thought it was
- 9:09Jack Lemon. Remember, you're right now it is Jaqueleman. You're right?
- 9:11Whm I get Jimmy Stewart, Yeah, Jed Qauckleman. Yeah, yeah,
- 9:13Because there's one movie in particularly called Glengarry Glenn Ross, Yes, in ninety
- 9:18two, I believe, but it was a play long before that, and
- 9:20there's a character that Jack Lemon plays in the film who's this sort of salesman
- 9:26who's passed his prime, can't close the deal anymore. You're right, Gill
- 9:31is based on in voice and appearance on Jaqueleman's Betrayal of Shelley. Yeah.
- 9:35Yeah, he was once a gun I mean, he was the nickname is
- 9:37Shelley the Machine Levine, but he can't do it anymore. I think just
- 9:41Dan does it good. Jimmy Steward, I mean it's what I'm thinking.
- 9:43Okay, that probably is, but I mean this is very yeah, this
- 9:46is very Jack Lemon and well, it's an interesting thing about that character is
- 9:50that he's his own worst enemy as well. He gets sort of arrogant when
- 9:54he thinks he's closed the sale and he starts sort of throwing his weight around
- 9:56and realize that he's fucked up. Yeah, and that's sort of the the
- 10:00case here to some degree as well. But you don't want to dislike Gil.
- 10:03But as I was saying before, I don't feel anyone comes out of
- 10:07this episode better than going in now. Say that because not just Gil,
- 10:09Marge as well, because Marge ruins it. I know she's they're trying to
- 10:15say that Marge needs this, but she ruins it for Gill and the one
- 10:16chance he has, she ruins it for him. I was like, Marge's
- 10:20kind of being she a bitch here as well. I get that she wants
- 10:24it for herself and I know he deserves it, but like no one looks
- 10:26good coming out. No, I mean yeah, I mean the fact that
- 10:30she sort of calls him out in front of all these other people, like
- 10:33you said, ruins his one tw and mean when you got have recently said
- 10:35in your office and had her moment of venting or redemption or whatever. Yeah,
- 10:43none of the work. Homer came out looking like a dummy as well.
- 10:46This Homer Grumple story was honestly one of the stupidest things that's been in
- 10:50the history of the show. It really was, And I mean I didn't
- 10:54and I didn't like it, But at the same time, I also thought
- 10:58this could be kind of funny if he was just so if you saw the
- 11:00Grumble or the Grumple or whatever it is in the window occasionally just kind of
- 11:03haunting and no one saw him there or maybe Homa, but no one has
- 11:09believing that he's been chased by the Grumble. But that to have, like
- 11:11Marge, go, you've got problems out there, and I'm like, no
- 11:13one's questioning why this guy and the suits outside, and then we find we
- 11:16find out that he's not actually a person in a suit. He's a real
- 11:20creature who bleeds green blood. And I'm just like, what is going on.
- 11:22Yeah, I mean I feel kind of torn because that gag where Home
- 11:28hits him and then with a bottle and it's like, there's the grumple of
- 11:31person, there's the grumble of greens, and I'm like, I don't mind
- 11:33this, but at the same time, not in these episodes. Yeah,
- 11:35I just wish that it had some I like that as a standalone gag,
- 11:39but I just wish that had the whole Grumple bit had some more continuity.
- 11:43And it was basically just this guy or this creature stalking Homer until the end
- 11:48and then then the end he puts the arm around them and they have Christmasy
- 11:52kind of thing. I don't know, but why though in the end it
- 11:54was just like so last time we saw the Grumple, Homer smash him,
- 11:56heaver the body, he starts bleeding. What happened the Grumple? After that,
- 12:00there is leave him there And the next time we seen he's just arriving
- 12:01with his family, the Grumble family at Gil's house that he just happened to
- 12:05know where it is, and they sing songs together. Well that's because it's
- 12:09Christmas time. Together at Christmas time and sing songs. My favorite so I'm
- 12:16looking here at my favorite moments. Mister Davis, You've got some and I've
- 12:18got nothing. Normally, as I'm doing the review, I'm rinning favorite moments.
- 12:22Clearly, this is the first time in the history of this show in
- 12:24almost nine years, I haven't put a favorite moment whilst watching the review.
- 12:28Okay, well you're like it because I've got three. Okay, I didn't.
- 12:31I'm sure the moments in here that could have fit in my favorite moments,
- 12:33but I just clearly wasn't you know what it was, you're not feeling
- 12:37I was not feeling it. You know why, because going into it JET
- 12:39this morning, right, I realized I hadn't fed him a little bit couplen
- 12:43hours, so learn one normally fit was okay, And I mopped the floor
- 12:46first, and I was like, all right, So I get a tin
- 12:48of dog food out. As I'm opening it up, what was my hand
- 12:50warm? Then I realized all the juice from the dog food had just been
- 12:54pouring out of the tin onto my hand and onto my freshly mocked floor.
- 12:58So I had to like remark, whatever, and I'm like, fucking house,
- 13:01I'm really And I put the food in to Jets bowl. He proceeds
- 13:03to walk up and goes, yeah, I feel it, buddy, and
- 13:05walks off, and I was like, you, motherfucker, I dirted my
- 13:09freshly mocked floor with your shitty dog food juice. It's all of my hand
- 13:13and my hand feels weird. And then he walked off and didn't need it.
- 13:18Well, you're asking me to take sides against Jerty, which I will
- 13:20never do. I don't normally do any most beloved dog there is. But
- 13:24I think going into this episode with that mindset didn't help. Well. The
- 13:26other thing is the valuable lesson you take away from this Dando never mop,
- 13:31Never mop. No, But it's it's amazing A good mop that can really
- 13:35change the vibe of a house. That is true. Look, I was
- 13:39being very facetious with mop. I rarely mop, but when I do,
- 13:41it's like, damn, I could sell this house two hundred grand more than
- 13:46I how neat it is? You had no favorite moments I've got. I've
- 13:52got a few. I'm sure I would have it, not that I don't
- 13:54put you. You tell me yours? Well, these are more like favorite
- 13:56lines and anything else. But when they're going through the calendar and it's doctor
- 14:01Martin Luther King day and marchays I can't kick him out on doctor Martin U.
- 14:05I was like, right, we're changing doctors. Yeah, that's not
- 14:09bad. I'm a big fan of you. For missers figure downstairs area if
- 14:13you swimsuit to the region, and for guild to refer to Homers as the
- 14:18whole butcher shop, I think is pretty good. I don't I haven't heard
- 14:20that before. You've heard, of course meeting too bad may Lowele butcher shop.
- 14:24I think that's pretty good. Using that which point will say, I
- 14:26think I mean cocktail frank. I think you mean a happy meal. You
- 14:33know what I don't like is that, like cocktail franks, they became in
- 14:35Australia anyway, we call them little boys. Do we call them little boys?
- 14:39Because of that reason? I don't know why do we call them little
- 14:41boys? That's real. God, I never thought of, like cocktail flanks
- 14:50are called little boys. Yeah yeah, Oh dude, we're being very childish,
- 14:56but they're called little boys. Yeah. Boy. In a semi related
- 15:01item, I know, I thought Christian Charity was actually not a bad point.
- 15:05I looked it up. It is Christian Charity actually a porn star.
- 15:07I couldn't find anything. No, I think there are at least one or
- 15:09two porn stars whose first name is Charity, which but Christmas Charity think is
- 15:15pretty good Christian yea, yeah, yeah, the best. The best porn
- 15:18name still remains Miranda Rights. Miranda Rights. Now that's also a character in
- 15:24Bunkers, the Disney series. Oh yeah, now I'm confused. The person
- 15:30who's sorry, Jim? Next question? You there eating the beast? All
- 15:35right, trivia time, mister Davis. I'll hit you with my first question.
- 15:39Smithers wanted to buy, well, wanted mister Boster buy him what?
- 15:41It was? A silver picture frame, wasn't it. I'm like, very
- 15:43planned, but you know that's what he wanted. You reach a certain stage
- 15:48in your life where it's kind of like, you know what, I don't
- 15:50have enough of picture frames. I asked things the things that I need,
- 15:52not what I want. I'm getting that. I mean, I'm still not
- 15:56there. I'm reaching the very boring stage. It's kind of like Christmas.
- 16:00Look shirt book, whiskey pretty much it you're whiskey man. Yeah. I
- 16:08have become that later in life. But I do enjoy a couple of things
- 16:11of a nice single mold of the evening. M all right, so what's
- 16:17your first question? Ummmmm. Adults pay forty dollars to get into the show
- 16:21Hammond to do. Children pay thirty nine dollars. That's correct. What time
- 16:26do they arrive at the realty place? Is it two seventeen seventeen? Correct?
- 16:30Yeah, because the temperature was one seventeen, wasn't it was? Yeah?
- 16:33And like Homer leaving the dog and the family essentially leaving the dog in
- 16:37the car with the windows up, I'm like this gag. Not funny,
- 16:38not cool, not cool at all. Homo was just an absolute dim with
- 16:41this entire episode. I have written down here stopping stupid Homer. Yeah,
- 16:45and what was that about, I'll look just about anything, Yeah, just
- 16:51on this episode in general. It was just this season eighteen Homer. No,
- 16:55i' I know what it is. Yeah, it's because everybody loves the
- 16:59I think he's talking to you. And now that loud whisper has become Homer's
- 17:04default comedy voice. You're right, Yeah, except that sounded more like something
- 17:08else. I don't know what I'm becoming when I do, and he is
- 17:12holding off his hand to the microphone because I'm very good at Udio doing visual
- 17:18gags for do you You're right? Yeah, that it has become a thing,
- 17:22hasn't it? Now? Trait Homa does it more and more often now?
- 17:26Yeah, and you know it worked a treat with mister Thompson. I
- 17:29love that. Yeah, I think I'm whispering, but I'm not saying the
- 17:34quiet part loud, yeah, which you know has become a thing. I
- 17:37mean, so many people, so many stories that I edit will have someone
- 17:41say, someone says that the quiet part loud today? Not really? All
- 17:47right? Your next question, Oh, did I authority just gave you one?
- 17:51Or no, you just gave me one? I answered that correctly.
- 17:53When is James L. Brooks's birthday? Oh? I've got it in my
- 17:56notes, I know, I look it up, and I don't look it
- 18:00up. I'm gonna try and guess. Is it July ninth? It's May
- 18:03night? May ninth, and it was a nine damn nearly May, and
- 18:07I may the When did the note? When did the Star Wars movies come?
- 18:10It? May twenty something, didn't it? They always dropped on May
- 18:12twentieth or something not made the fourth I always dropped like May something though.
- 18:17Let's look a Phantom Menace release date? Or was it the May nineteenth Fantom?
- 18:21How do fuck what? I know? I think it's the twenty ninth
- 18:22of May list because there's a movie that actually is called it was dropped May
- 18:27nineteenth. Okay, yeah, how the fuck does my brain remember shit like
- 18:30that? But I can't remember what I did yesterday with the kids? Yeah,
- 18:34our brains. I remember the release date of the Phantom Menace. Our
- 18:40brains are weird creatures. Oh, I really am anything, but I can
- 18:42remember anything like pre this year. I'm fine with. My short term memory
- 18:47is absolutely shot. Just kids, mate, I blame the Internet and kids.
- 18:51Yeah, and YouTube things, just attention spans. So you're watching YouTube
- 18:53and it's like you're watching a video, But how often now are you watching
- 18:56TV? Before you pull your phone out and you realize you're your phone in
- 19:00your hand, You're like, what am I doing? I'm not even watching
- 19:03this? What am I doing? Will they talk about this? I mean
- 19:04the streaming service in particular, talk about seconds green syndrome where it's like,
- 19:10you know, we don't want to we want to have engagement on both things.
- 19:14I mean, so you know you'll be texting, hey, I'm watching
- 19:15this new thing on Netflix or tweeting about it. Tweeting about it, yeah,
- 19:19yeah, while it's going. I mean, I'm as guilty as the
- 19:23next person. I mean, I started watching the show on Netflix last night,
- 19:26really enjoying it, but of course had to break the phone out and
- 19:30say, hey, I'm watching the show and it's pretty good. Well,
- 19:32what are you like when you're sitting there with Louise? Right, So,
- 19:33when I'm sitting there watching a show of Nikola and she pulls her phone out,
- 19:37it kind of annoys me, like are you watching it? Because I'm
- 19:38just like, am I sitting here by myself watching this show? Would you
- 19:41rather me just go? I can go do something else because I'm watching this
- 19:45schoo I want to watch it with you. But she's sitting there looking at
- 19:47a phone, scrolling through Instagram, and I'm like, you're clearly like you're
- 19:49listening to it, but you're not watching it. I'm just like the whole
- 19:52idea of and I know it's like, oh, you know, at least
- 19:55you're together on the couch and sort of like the lovely moments, but it's
- 19:57like you're not there though. I get where you're coming from, but I
- 20:03don't know I mean, Lou and I do this as well. It will
- 20:04be occasions when we're you know, the stuff that we watch is generally does
- 20:07require one hundred percent of your attention, but you know, we'll have occasions
- 20:11where we're both sort of doing a little bit of scrolling looking up, a
- 20:14little bit scrolling looking up, and yeah, occasually making out. I hate
- 20:18it though, especially the making out. I hate it. It's the all
- 20:25right, I don't have any more trivia questions? You have any one more
- 20:26for me? Uh No, I don't. I mean, And here's the
- 20:30thing I sort of came up with a lot of which I think is a
- 20:33sign of not a good episode, where it's kind of like, I bet
- 20:34I could stump into this as opposed to being involved in the episode. I'll
- 20:37try and stop you with another date to one then all right, Oh okay,
- 20:41so what is July third? Oh, it would be it would be
- 20:45like Nephew's Day. No, it would be like January third for us weatherwise.
- 20:49Oh okay, the hottest day of the year or air condition Appreciation Day.
- 20:56It's a nice warm day here in Sunday, jam is. Yeah,
- 21:00the weather's just turned itself on, hasn't it. It has. Look we
- 21:02had yes yesterday was Melbourne Cup Day. I was spoken. I spoke about
- 21:04this on our friends podcast. Right still I know who won it slightly,
- 21:08I don't care anymore. Slight little detour though, and we'll get to the
- 21:11review of the episode. So you're doing some cross promoting. That's pretty savvy.
- 21:15Yeah, but Nicol and I went out for breakfast yesterday. Shit the
- 21:18day off right because she works in Melbourne, so it's in Melbourne office.
- 21:19She works in gel long for as the weak Melbourne office, Melbourn Cup day
- 21:22off right to the day af together went out for breakfast. What is this
- 21:26horseship? And we weren't trying to work out when did businesses and who was
- 21:29the first business to sort of establish this concept and everyone just went with it.
- 21:33Charging fifty percent extra on public holidays. This has become a thing now,
- 21:37is true? Where they go for should we go to chuge it?
- 21:40Why? Okay, can you tell me why? Because the guy yesterday we
- 21:42went to a place we won't name in the place right, It's like,
- 21:45I just like you, it's fifty public holiday. I'm like, let us
- 21:48not though in Geelong and he goes yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm like,
- 21:52so, I know it's public hol day in Melbourne, but not in
- 21:55Gelong. So and he's like, oh, we we didn't do it for
- 21:57Geelong Cup. And I'm like, you mean you didn't do it on the
- 22:00Geelong Cup public clan? You're full of shit? You know, I like
- 22:03you one hundred percent did But like, when did this start? And why
- 22:07are we allowing them to get away with it? I don't I was,
- 22:08so I stand by it is absolute horseshit that just because I know a businesses
- 22:14are struggling right now, but just the whole making us pay the extra?
- 22:18Fuck them. You started a business. This is part of running a business.
- 22:21You make more money on public colities. Is people off work? They're
- 22:23at your fucking place spending their money. You make more money, therefore you
- 22:26pay the fucking work is more money? Right? This whole making the customer
- 22:30pay the extra adds bullshit to me. I'm not a fan of at all.
- 22:33He's certainly not happy, and yeah, I agree with him. Why
- 22:37should I compare it to the tip system in the US? Oh god,
- 22:41the tip system? Look what, so we have to pay a tip because
- 22:45you guys aren't paying the proper wages? Correct? Yeah, and look on
- 22:48occasions, I don't mind that when you get good service. But the last
- 22:53time that Lunar were in the States, you know, most of the time
- 22:56you're going into some canter jockey, you're let not even talking to them.
- 23:00It's like punch your order into the end of the touch screen. Here,
- 23:03it's just an expectation. Do you want to add a twenty percent tip?
- 23:06I'm like, for what I went to we went when I went out with
- 23:10with Matt and Phil and Melbourne, that right right, everywhere we went to
- 23:11expected a tip. And I'm like, don't you motherfuckers try and weasel this
- 23:15into our system. It ain't happening. You get paid enough at your Melbourne
- 23:18fucking restaurant. I know you're getting paid enough. I'm just a pole podcast.
- 23:25Yeah, but I was just like, fifty percent get stuffed. Yes,
- 23:29now you're correct, particularly as you said. I mean, it wasn't
- 23:32even a poppy cold angel along. Yeah it's Melbourn. Yeah it's Melbourne.
- 23:34I know a lot of Melbourne people are moving to Geelong, but still it's
- 23:37not. As soon as I ask him about it, it was like,
- 23:41oh no, no anyway, So the original day of this episode was December
- 23:45seventeenth, two thousand and six, so I'm assuming it'd be probably the second
- 23:48last episode, maybe the last episode for two thousand and six. Let's look
- 23:52it up, shall we. Let's go down to the next episode, The
- 23:53Wife Aquatic, which originally aired in January. This is the last episode of
- 23:56two thousand and six. I did at least ad aman Chrismas time, but
- 24:00it was especially Christmas. It was. It was It's kind of like die
- 24:04Hard. You know, you said Die had a Christmas movie because it's set
- 24:07at Christmas, but there's not much Christmasy about it besides the fact of the
- 24:10Christmas party at the start and he puts the Christmas head on the eye.
- 24:11Yes, that's pretty much it. But you watched the Christmas because it was
- 24:15set at Christmas. This was set at Christmas at the beginning and at the
- 24:18very end, but it's not a Christmas episode. And at the end they
- 24:19played let it snow, let us not at Yeah, does that to find
- 24:22a Christmas movie? Though? I don't think it really does. Like it's
- 24:26just fun to say it is for life, not for Christmas. And again,
- 24:30as I always say, I mean, if you're gonna call Die had
- 24:33a movie you got to call lethal weapon of Christmas movie. Yeah, it's
- 24:36like Gremlins. To me is a Christmas movie. The whole thing is set
- 24:37at Christmas. It's just Christmas snadi. It's a horror movie, but it
- 24:41has the Christmas vibe to it throughout the entire thing. Yes, but this
- 24:44episode was written by Jeff Westbrook and directed by Bob Anderson. Now, funnily
- 24:48enough, do you know this episode right? We haven't been high on it.
- 24:51Not the worst episode of all time, but just not high on it.
- 24:52It actually won an award. It won the Writer's Guild of America Award
- 24:56for Best Animated Program, And I was like, really, there must have
- 25:00been some weak entrance that year, like this is this is nowhere near the
- 25:04best episode of season eighteen even review. Do they call that, mister burns
- 25:07of Wood, you know, achievement? Yeah, it sounds like what a
- 25:11god? That a participant medal? But this this one wasn't as good as
- 25:15like ice Cream of Marjorie or who Hoarde Couple? I don't think so,
- 25:18no, no, not at all. But yeah, so it was the
- 25:22Captain chop Boar gag. We had a chopball gag this week Franklinsons is not
- 25:26a monster, and the catch gig was one where they jumped to the couch
- 25:27pan out and they're inside a Christmas ball. But I just really enjoyed the
- 25:32opening segment here, the opening like intro, so I've got to here the
- 25:36opening sequence. This is all written on the wiki page for those of you
- 25:37who haven't actually watched the episode, this is what happens. It's redesigned in
- 25:41the Christmas style, not counting the trust for a Treehouse of Horror episodes.
- 25:45Is this only the second time they've done this. The theme changes that the
- 25:48whole town is now covered in white snow. The other changes include the likes
- 25:52of Homer running to the right as opposed that left with mister Burns dresses,
- 25:56Ebone's a scrooge, and Miss Smith is dressed as the ghost of Jacob Marley.
- 25:59Yes signs no bonuses, Merry Christmas, no bonuses, yes, which
- 26:02I thought was good. Jasper is standing where the late bleeding Gums Murthy would
- 26:06normally stand. Yeah, because he was because when they did the original intro,
- 26:08Bleeding Gums were still alive. So they've this and they never changing the
- 26:11intro, but they've updated it for Jasper. In the quick pan across Springfield,
- 26:15mord Flanders can still be seen alive. Bart's skateboard is replaced with the
- 26:18snowboard. Marge and Maggie's grocery and car scenes have been cut out, which
- 26:22was a kind of a weird cut. It's like, if you're going into
- 26:22all this trouble, why you shortened it? And everyone is in Christmas attire,
- 26:27which goes with the catch gave of them being in the ornament. Now.
- 26:30The title of the episode killed Bill, Killed Gill's volume one and two
- 26:33obviously planning kill Bill Apparently in Ah where was it? It was like Spain
- 26:40or something. The kill Gill is actually like the their translation for yeah,
- 26:47I didn't know that. Yeah, it might be Spanish, but was somewhere
- 26:49where it was and yeah. So the episode kicks off with Krusty Christmas on
- 26:55Ice? Have you ever been to like a Christmas on Ice? I'm about
- 26:56to ask you who have been to an asking? I don't think I have.
- 27:00I've never been to any ice show ever. Even when I was in
- 27:02America, we went to like state like shows that this awesome kick ass linking
- 27:06show which wasn't a nice but it was animal kindom. But I've never been
- 27:08to an ice show. I've got this weird feeling that I have been to
- 27:11one, but I can't remember exactly where it went. It's like, I
- 27:15know I've seen a lot of them on screens, but I get the feeling
- 27:18I've actually been to one in person. Yeah, I can't recall, for
- 27:22the life of me the details of it, but I kin't of much my
- 27:25kids really caring that much to sit through like two hours of Disney characters just
- 27:29skating around. Yeah, I mean, I think you'd have to have a
- 27:30really good seat, and probably it would be the opposite of a normal thing
- 27:34where it's like, oh ring sad seats. It's like you're not going to
- 27:37say much. But if you've got those blood seats, you're like, oh
- 27:38wow, they're doing a pinwheel or something like that. They're normally doing it
- 27:41like Rod Dave Verena. I think, yes, it begins, Hey stop
- 27:48that podcast, and there's Our neighbors are rambunctious, to say the least.
- 27:52I didn't close the window there, so be Chrusty keeps falling over when he
- 27:55comes out. Are they we are high because we are busty? I was
- 27:56like, eh, I just kind of thinking that when they said it,
- 28:02Christ keeps falling overwy laughing at old man's pain. But this is really all
- 28:04that funny, you know, the rib which comes out the Ribbert Matrix,
- 28:07pougy I've got to kick out of very my two thousand and six. I
- 28:11guess the gag is that it's meant to be out of date sort of.
- 28:12This would I was introduced in like two thousand have just kept the same cat
- 28:15because we're not buying any costume. That's the thing. You've just you've you
- 28:18missed the boat or you're sticking with the same old, same old. Oh
- 28:22yeah, by when did the last Matrix come out two thousand and Well,
- 28:26the new ones came out in two thousand and three because there was like a
- 28:29four year gap, wasn't it. They came out like months I think apart
- 28:32months or a year apart, now only two months apart. Weren't they really
- 28:34reloaded? And I'm pretty sure Matrix reloaded release date was May fifteenth, and
- 28:44Revolutions was the third one, is that right? Revolutions? So May fifteenth,
- 28:47two thousand and three, twenty seventh Gotober two thousand and three. Oh
- 28:51okay, So what's that June, July, August, September, October,
- 28:52six months apart, which was a ballsy concept. It was, yeah,
- 28:59but it's how you know popular The original matrix was, It's like, people
- 29:03are gonna want one matrix, let's give them, give them to both barrels.
- 29:07And you watch that third when you're like, oh, you can just
- 29:11you can feel the air just deflating out of the tides, like gonna make
- 29:14it, gonna make it. Look to the finish line. This this was
- 29:18one movie, like one one perfect movie and one yeah, and one should
- 29:23have been a long imperfect sequel. Having said that, I mean, I
- 29:32think I've got a I think the lovely lou is taking a weekend away to
- 29:34sit neey with her daughter, which means it's share, which means Guy's doing
- 29:40to sit on the crouch and his undies. So regular Tuesday pretty much.
- 29:42Yeah, thank you for dragging me away from undepends termed Dan do outside the
- 29:48guy's ass has his own congressman with his reaching broom. I love through bet
- 29:57on the kitchen table. Where's my reaching broom? But I think I might
- 30:02have a yes, a trilogy day where it's either Lord of the Rings.
- 30:04But I'm to watch it every year. Now it's been a while. Novely
- 30:08watch it every Christmas. Well, now I've got a girlfriend and it's like,
- 30:12you're spending boxing now with me. Well that's implied. That's a lot
- 30:17of the rings. No, wedla, a lot of the rings. So
- 30:22I married a dorg anyway, But I thought it's been a one since I
- 30:26watched all three Matrix movies. Even though there are four, I haven't watched
- 30:29the second or third in I reckon fifteen years if not more. Well,
- 30:33I think I love the first one. Yeah, I'm thinking maybe it's time
- 30:37to give all three a whirl again. But yeah, Matrix Poochy. But
- 30:40it's not a trilogy anymore was a day. That's true. It's a quadrilogy.
- 30:42It's a quartete. You watch that fourth one, you're like, ah,
- 30:45oh, yeah, we didn't really need this. It's okay, it's
- 30:52fine. It's got some interesting ideas. I don't know, I don't know,
- 30:56but yeah we had Matrix Poochy and then who comes out? But yeah,
- 31:00Saicho Mal who has just got off the plane from his father's funeral.
- 31:03And I was like, well that's just sad. It's like that, don't
- 31:06make me feel bad for mel this is gonna be a Christmas episode. You've
- 31:07already made me feel We've already laughed at an old man's pain. You made
- 31:11fun of a guy getting off the plane from his day's funeral. I'm like,
- 31:12this is not a good start for a Christmas episode. Not really,
- 31:15No, no, let me get a guest appearance from himself, Alvis Stoico.
- 31:18Indeed who I thought? Real person that I looked up, real person,
- 31:22real figure skater, not gay, not gay. No girlfriend of Vancouver,
- 31:26which, although is made up a city. Well that's true, that's
- 31:29true, but also not gay because exactly married to a woman in real life,
- 31:32Elva Steiker was so handsome he can laces up my skates anytime. Don't
- 31:37you Haggs know that all male figure skaters are twinkly in the LUTs. That's
- 31:41a common misconception. I have a girlfriend in Vancouver, made up girlfriend,
- 31:45made up city. Now, speaking of not gay, you know what I'm
- 31:48confused about. Someone who or someone who is gay is Patty. She's come
- 31:52out as gay. Why did she find him attractive? And like, oh
- 31:56he's so handsome and he's like, hey, you brought You need to understand
- 32:00he's not, he's not available. It's like she's I understand you can be
- 32:04gay and still appreciate, but it's like the way they implied this was that
- 32:07there was like the old classic Patty and Summer gone, ooh, that mcguy
- 32:09was so hot. That's the kind of stick this was going for. It
- 32:13wasn't the like some was saying. It would have been fine, but Patty,
- 32:15it just felt weird. I guess, yeah, we've established here that
- 32:19she is the out character. Yes, I guess they wanted any reason to
- 32:24throw in a gay gag. Of course they didn't, And but they went
- 32:29about the screens Christmas besides flamboyance cat wait mean to say flamboyance that's our code
- 32:35word now? Who came up as saying as gay as Christmas? I don't
- 32:37know is it still said? Had someone saying about three months ago. I
- 32:42was like, I'm not sure we'll had to say that anymore. The guy
- 32:45he's his gay as Christmas? And I was like, hmmm, yeahstive family
- 32:49fun it does. That's the thing I mean, I probably wasn't saying back
- 32:52when gay meant merry and happy as opposed to yeah, okay, it's a
- 32:57new meaning or it's not even new meaning. It's been It's means for a
- 33:01while. But you know, they had the kids skating there and Homo says
- 33:06to Lisa, if I paid for skating lessons, they could have been you.
- 33:07And yep, that just set off the whole trend of him just being
- 33:10a douche bathe This entire episode essentially pretty much Yep, Crusty email A performing
- 33:15what the Nutcracker whatever whatever it was that it's a song from The Nutcracker.
- 33:17Anyway, that's what you know. When they did that Christmas episode last year,
- 33:22which was awesome, Christimpson's Christmas Stories and they had the final seven which
- 33:27was all based to this song. Correct, I love that? So the
- 33:29Nutcracker Sweet? I believe sweet? Is it? Okay? Yeah? But
- 33:31this is probably be one of my favorite moments where it falls down, Oh
- 33:34shut up, you knew the deal. Then the grumple he's stealing the holiday
- 33:37cheer home. We're scared of the Grumble. Then we get I guess it's
- 33:42Frosty the Snowman, Candy, Kevin and Grumble. They all beat up the
- 33:45Utah Jaz because they're trying to take over the arena to play a basketball game
- 33:49in an hour or so, and Homer beats up the Grumble and yeah,
- 33:52I just I was just not sold on this Grumple. I just don't know
- 33:55how, because apparently the Simpsons episodes go through rewrite after rewrite after rewrite though,
- 34:01and I get they're working on the movie at this point, but how
- 34:04does this story get through that many rewrites? People go, yep, let's
- 34:07stick with it. I don't know, but I mean, this is one
- 34:09of those things that had like a relatively quick fix where it's just Homer showing
- 34:15irrational fear of the Grumple, and but Marge saying something like, oh,
- 34:19the Grumples not real, it can't or oh Homer again with the Grumple,
- 34:22you know, like it's an ongoing thing that he's perpetually scared of the Grumble
- 34:27Sark puppets. Yeah, pretty much. And yeah, that sort of sets
- 34:30up the fact that you know, he's going to be haunted by the Grumple
- 34:32all the way through the episode. That's my thought. And it's always just
- 34:35like that, could you see him? And then they look and he's not
- 34:37there? Yeah, and so is Homer imagining this or is he not?
- 34:39Yeah, it's like it's just a kind of costume. It's not much that
- 34:43would have been funnier, you know. So then we're at Constanton's and everyone's
- 34:46shopping for their family, late night, late shopping Christmas Eve apparently, Oh
- 34:51that's true. Yeah, yeah, everyone's shopping on Christmas Eve. We mean
- 34:52to the last night. It used to be a great thing. It's gone,
- 34:55mate, I was talking about it. Maybe it's about on this podcast.
- 34:59I'm not sure about Marcus Square. One of my favorite memories of Market
- 35:00Square is Christmas Eve going out with Mum and picking up the Christmas presents from
- 35:05like all the various places, and its just being pumped and playing Christmas songs
- 35:08and everyone's just happy. It's fucking ten thirty on Christmas Eve. A good
- 35:12time, no one. Yeah, you're not getting static from anybody. It
- 35:14was like some people just hanging out there. We're all here for the same
- 35:17thing. Yeah, let's try and make this as quick and painless as possible.
- 35:21Hey, Merry Christmas to you, all that kind of stuff. Now
- 35:22we're just sort of, you know, sitting on the doorstep waiting for the
- 35:25Amazon prime guard or what's exciting though it is it is. It's nice when
- 35:31you're tracking your Amazon. It could be here tomorrow. Yeah. It's like
- 35:35yeah, like Zuckerberg at the end of social network, just hitting refresh,
- 35:38refresh, refresh on your Amazon. On your Australian posting, it's like,
- 35:42yeah, when it comes up, it's coming today, It's like, oh
- 35:45what I am now my postman for I think it's Australian Post. Australian Post
- 35:52Jeremy Jessa. I don't know him, and it was just like I'm like,
- 35:58onto the sign and thing. He's like, no, nah, but
- 35:59all good. I've got a surly guy who is not being friendly, the
- 36:04same guy for you know, he's dropping up a lot of stuff lately.
- 36:07I'm like I need to say anything. No, I'll be sitting ther editing.
- 36:10I hear Brandon package at the door. Bro. He's like a ledge
- 36:15and then I'm just like, well again he's just like see you, bro.
- 36:21The funny thing is this man's Irish, but he's just havn't he's his
- 36:24love and life. Like you know, sometimes you see postman, its like
- 36:28again, I've brought it up some jobs. I'm like, I would love
- 36:30to do this just for six months, yes, bringing the joy to people,
- 36:32delivering their packages mail, No, Yeah, but delivering the Santa all
- 36:37year round, yeah, it'd be so much fun. No one, No
- 36:40one's unhappy to see the post, the package delivery person. So many people
- 36:45left where we used to work when they worked in the warehouse, like seven
- 36:49to one trot or to work for Star Trek. They're like, I'm going
- 36:51to deliver shit, and I'm like, good on you. I mean,
- 36:53I don't know. If you're an independent contractor, I guess you'd probably have
- 36:57to pay for your own petrol, maintenance, all that kind of stuff.
- 36:59I don't wouldn't be independent. Yeah, but there were many Amazon's independent,
- 37:02A lot of them now, aren't they. I think so? Yeah,
- 37:05they're always looking at cutcosts. Yeah, friend of the pot Amazon. Yeah.
- 37:10Imagine if you're working for a straight post, which in Star Trek is
- 37:14a straight post as well, isn't it. I have no idea I believe
- 37:16that. Yeah, an affiliate thereof But yeah, they'd probably pay for your
- 37:20petrol and all that kind of stuff. Or you do, it's just groove
- 37:22round in your van A stilly dan there got a little suddenly. I'm stopping
- 37:25off to get a couple of dim sem bottle of coke and bow months pie
- 37:29and then dry on the seat. One of the fondest memories I have of
- 37:36my old gig when I was working at the street paper down here Forte was
- 37:38every fort I love the orde referred to as the street paper. No,
- 37:44it's not bad. It is the street paper. It's always like that's what
- 37:46it is, is like the street paper fourteen remember street papers A little context,
- 37:51right, yes, yes, but every fortnight, this was the nineties,
- 37:55I get an extra fifty bucks cash to get in the van with another
- 38:00person and deliver it. You know, we'd get our Fortnit's copies bundled up.
- 38:06It's like, okay, the businesses and people put it in like the
- 38:08front fours, like the doctor's clinics and yes, so it was yeah,
- 38:13cafes, clubs, pubs, et cetera. And there we was. We
- 38:16had two vans. One would go around the Geelong and the Surf Coast and
- 38:21me and this other guy whose name was Simon. Okay, I mostly did
- 38:24the run with Simon, who was he ran this record shop. We'd do
- 38:28Ballarat and you know we'd start early in the morning. You'd get a coffee.
- 38:32I was still smoking cigarettes to that stage, so you don't have a
- 38:35coffee and a fag, and so you're getting paid your hour of the red
- 38:37plus fifty dollars on top of two this no, this was just a fifty
- 38:42dollar thing. But how long? Not all day? It's like fifty dollars
- 38:47then is probably of like one hundred bucks an hour? Oh pretty much?
- 38:50Ye? Yeah? Yeah, I mean I was like this is this is
- 38:52all right? But you know you're playing good music. You just you're dropping
- 38:55off, dropping off that tissue, picking up the old ones. It was
- 39:01such a great time. Yeah, I'm picture it now, Like you said,
- 39:07Dimmy's from the Servommies, from the server where were getting lunch from?
- 39:12Oh there's that cafe in in. I love when you find like a milk
- 39:15buddy ever been before and you're like, I'm gonna try the dimmies and it's
- 39:19oh my god. Anyway, enough reminiscing, Yeah, enough reminiscing. So
- 39:25christmasp if everyone's shopping, that's right. So Quimby's buying clothes for his wife
- 39:30and he's mistress mistress. I did like the the wife's size and mistresses.
- 39:36Mister Burns buy is the gift for Philip, which it was a weird dag
- 39:38who is Philip? We never seen him again? No, No, I
- 39:42mean it's on one. On one hand, that's a very obvious gag.
- 39:45He's like, oh, well, he's got a bromance going with this guy
- 39:49who was essentially Smithers, and he's not noticing that Smithers is always there and
- 39:52that kind of stuff. No, Smither's a need to advice. Picking at
- 39:55a gift for a very dear friend of man, a single fellow, but
- 40:00one with a warm, loyal heart. Well, sir, a fella like
- 40:04that might have had his eye on this silver frame. It would go great
- 40:07with his collection of Art deco. Shut up, shut up, there he
- 40:10is, Hello, Philip, what are you doing here? Never you mind,
- 40:17mister nosey, are you going to that string cordet thing? Because I'm
- 40:22not here goopy for that. This is the classic example of a Season eighteen
- 40:30version of the well maybe someone's gonna buy it for you for Christmas? And
- 40:32how goes it? Should be really surprised when shure and he's an ironboard cover,
- 40:37someone thinking that gifts for them when it's not, but then just ruining
- 40:40it by going to and just kept going and going and going. Well,
- 40:44that's the thing. There's so many gigs in this that I just let's keep
- 40:46we can work it out. Yeah yeah, like and the Grumple is the
- 40:51main example of that. It doesn't have to talk, it just has to
- 40:53be yeah again again they like mister Burns just being horrible. Everyone's just horrible
- 40:58in this episode. Yeah yeah, I'm looking for yeah, and they that's
- 41:02the thing that they, I mean, the Simpsons, I think, sometimes
- 41:05prides itself on like, oh, we're gonna zag where other people zig.
- 41:07I mean that's what it sort of started as it's like all these families,
- 41:10so it comes to like lovey dovey and everything like that, and we're a
- 41:13bit like this is what families are really like, but we still love each
- 41:15other. Yeah yeah, But for this episode to be like Christmas time people
- 41:20guess what these people everyone's behaving badly, but at the end we're gonna come
- 41:23together and everything's going to be good. And it's like, why would Gill
- 41:27be like this when it's like you just cost him he's one chance to be
- 41:30successful and he's like, Oh, it doesn't matter, come back to the
- 41:30place and more. Just sing songs and be happy. I'm like, it
- 41:32doesn't work. I mean even for him to say it's like, oh,
- 41:36you know what, I took advantage of you for so long. I don't
- 41:38shame on me, or something that doesn't say that, doesn't say that.
- 41:40That would have been a better ending for this, rather than have March's ruined
- 41:44it for Gil, have Gil just just having meet up with him realized there's
- 41:47been a success. I wouldn't have written him out of the show, but
- 41:51it would have been a nice character shift. I think you have n't be
- 41:52success with him for a few persodes. Well. When was he introduced.
- 41:55It was an introduced in the fucking the last So people always say he's a
- 42:00replacement for like Lionel Huts, right, and he actually appears in the last
- 42:04episode featuring Lionel Huts before Phil Hartman obviously was taken away from US Realty Bytes
- 42:08where he works at the real which is why he is based on Glen garryl
- 42:12I'm not sure you so he came in season nine, Okay, so he's
- 42:15been around for a while nine years. Yeah. Yeah, And again as
- 42:19we said, I mean, look, he's a gag that's good and fun,
- 42:22but I mean he's not necessarily irreplaceable. And I get the feeling he's
- 42:24been around long enough for this stage. Was like, let's give him a
- 42:27graceful as let's send Gill out on a w Yeah, no, but no
- 42:32deal. Well, but what good old Shadow bring you for Christmas? Soon?
- 42:37I wanted Dirk bike one of those video game chairs that vibrate. Dad,
- 42:42he's not the real Sandra. We can't afford that stuff. Shut up,
- 42:46shut up, shut up. I better go after him. What are
- 42:53your thoughts on Kernini's son. We've had this a few times and it's just
- 42:57it's one of those logic gaps where I'm just like, I find it so
- 42:59confusing. When you've seen Keernie's dad as well. In the episode of The
- 43:01Home of they form one of the guys beating up Homer at the bar.
- 43:04It's like, this doesn't make sense anymore. Yeah, I've never got it.
- 43:08I don't think it's particularly funny. It's not funny, is it?
- 43:12The for a one time gag? Maybe the whole I sleep in the drawers,
- 43:15like, eh, one time, I forget about it. But to
- 43:17be going on with to make it, it's just confusing to me. It
- 43:21is. It is very confusing. But then Lisa's turn for to tell Santa
- 43:24what she wants and what do you want? Well? Peace? What No?
- 43:27I like that. It's like even Lisa's like, I do want that,
- 43:31yes, but it's Christmas time. I want I want presents, but
- 43:35she wants the sold out Malibu Stacey Pony Beach party with sparklesand and Gil realizes
- 43:39I sold you know there's one out back. I'll go get it for you.
- 43:43And then did you see the sign? Yeah? Yeah, Santa's making
- 43:45presents. Just sitting on the toilet. I was like, that's good,
- 43:50that's not bad. I like it. Thank you, thank you, thank
- 43:54you. You're reeling. Made my daughter's Christmas well her smile, I made
- 44:00mine. Mark's your freak boot fronts over here now, mister Costington, sir,
- 44:08I'm glad I had this chance to talk to you. I've been on
- 44:10the payroll here since May, and I'd really like to start working in ladies
- 44:15shoes. Not literally, of course. I couldn't walk very fast, though,
- 44:17I'd learn if that's what it takes. Never mind not Now, did
- 44:21you sell the Malibu s tasty set? I put aside that was for you,
- 44:27it was for my daughter. You. I won't mind dy no good
- 44:37back that toy. Gee, I'm sorry, sir, taken back that Dow
- 44:45would break a little girl's heart at Christmas even. I made a lot of
- 44:49mistakes in my life, but I would never do that. Well, then
- 44:52you're for but I, oh, you poor man? Fired on Christmas Eve?
- 45:08Why don't you have dinner with us tonight? Please? Santa? Well,
- 45:12let me check the bus schedule here, you get it, make a
- 45:15transfer there? Well, I could be there by two am. We'll give
- 45:20you a ride. That's swell. Could you swing by my ex wife's place.
- 45:23I want her to see me riding in a car. I didn't like
- 45:28this right because Lisa's standing there and at the end she's like, oh you
- 45:31poor man. I know they try and make it. She's not paying attention,
- 45:34but I'm like, you're there, my note. Maybe give the toy
- 45:37back, Lisa. Yeah, like you've realized he's been fired because you've got
- 45:40the toy and your first thought is, oh, poor guy, how haven't
- 45:45you just give the toy back? You know, on this mistake. This
- 45:49whole episode's finished. It's all problem solved. We just could killed Gill volume
- 45:53one, Yes, exactly. Do you think that Costington is a play on?
- 46:00Was his name bust Nass from Phantom Menace B But I think it's more
- 46:05just I mean, the vibe I get from Costington's is very and this ties
- 46:10him with the Christmas thing, very Miracle on thirty fourth Street, and they've
- 46:14got the the apartment stores, and certainly in old movies, like the original
- 46:19Miracle on thirty fourth Street, you know, they're usually run by big,
- 46:21blustery gentlemen. I love the nineties remake of that. It was really sweet.
- 46:27It was yeah, rich Richard Attenborough, Richard and Matilda and you watching
- 46:30it and when you watch you're like, is he the real Sander? It's
- 46:35one of my favorite stories. Miracle on thirty four I like the original black
- 46:37and white version, and I think the remake is actually pretty darn good.
- 46:40And the story just being there. It's just the spirit of Christmas. You
- 46:44know, everyone believes, and it's just like they never try and like dumb
- 46:46it down where they make you think, oh no, here's the real sand
- 46:49But it's like it makes you want to believe is he that? Yeah,
- 46:52it's a it's a great story. Plus the guy from the Practice, what's
- 46:54his name, Dylan mcdomal, yah, Dylan Dermot. He's great in the
- 46:57film as well. He's good. I'm a big fan of Dylan McDermott.
- 47:00Do you I have never watched The Practice. My mom used to love it.
- 47:00I've never watched it, and Nicole and I are looking for another like
- 47:04lawyer firm show is I'm gonna ask guy, is it worth watching the Practice?
- 47:07Yeah? Absolutely, I mean that's that's David E. Kelly who sort
- 47:09of specializes Bill did Allen mcbill. And the thing about the practice is Boston
- 47:15Legal as well. Well it it becomes Boston Legal because at the same Yeah,
- 47:19because it starts as the Practice, and then I think Dylan McDermott might
- 47:22have either had some contract negotiating. He's like, well, I'm not playing
- 47:24this lead anymore, and they're like, well, we need to bring in
- 47:28another character to sort of round things out, and they got James Spader to
- 47:32play sure, and he was such a hit. So it's the same business,
- 47:36same or it's the same story. It's it's sort of you know how
- 47:39we had the same vibe we had that talk about extended universes versus this is
- 47:44extended universe stuff. Because Alan Shaw joins the firm that the Bobby Donald was
- 47:50running del mcurmott del mcdmmott, and then he goes and works for the Boston
- 47:55firm or another firm kind of like the Chicago the Order and Shorts and Chicago
- 48:02p D or whatever it is. I've never seen any of those Chicago shows.
- 48:06I watched the Chicago because they did a crossover once and I was like,
- 48:08I don't really like this guy. And then we watched the first few
- 48:10episodes of the of the series and I was like, oh no, you
- 48:14won me over. And we haven't gone back to it because we only had
- 48:15the first season of something available on Amazon at the time or whatever. But
- 48:19Dick Wolf, Jesus Christ, that's the hardest working man, second only to
- 48:22Brendan Dan. If only I got paid Dick Wolf money. Every one of
- 48:28everyone needs a how many Chicago shows are there? Because like, Chicago made
- 48:30Chicago p D did a Chicago fight? But was he was he Dick Was
- 48:36it Dick Wolf Chicago Fight? I think that's a dig Wolf show. Maybe
- 48:38I like saying as one word, Dick Wolf. It's a great name.
- 48:42But as we said, so Lisa just just lets him get fired and so
- 48:45you're just staying there, then offer him a ride they offer him for dinner,
- 48:49the kind of airplace for dinner maybe or something. Anyway, they offer
- 48:52him a ride and he says, drive past my ex wife's so you can
- 48:53see me in a car. Gil is then invited to stay for Christmas night
- 48:58and they throw a Grandpa and I'm like, this is just like me.
- 49:00Yeah, I mean that your present is leaving. It's like, this is
- 49:04like not funny, this is not this is just not funny at all.
- 49:07The difference between Homer like Graba being outside and Hope like closing the blinds all
- 49:12at least that's funny to look at. This is just him saying go home.
- 49:15Your president is leaving. We don't want you here, but we're gonna
- 49:16have Gill. It's like, yeah, not buying it, not liking it,
- 49:21but it's Christmas morning now and Gil. This is where we get the
- 49:23side of Gill that we dreaded, with the side of Gill that we didn't
- 49:27need to see, where he's bought all his shit in and now I was
- 49:29just taking over the house. Yeah again now as I say, review what
- 49:32you've got and what should be. But I get the feeling it would have
- 49:36been like a funnier side gag if the stuff sort of gradually built up over
- 49:39time. Yeah, it was too much at once, wasn't it. Yeah,
- 49:43because then it was just gone the next scene. So I don't know,
- 49:46it didn't work out that well. But but the grumples outside, the
- 49:50grumples outside, just show the grumple. Don't have him talking. Yeah,
- 49:52it's stupid. Gill is now cooking eggs a Harald stats and then explain,
- 50:00Harold is I better did a little googling on Harold Staarson. He was a
- 50:07politician who unsuccessfully ran for the positions of mayor, governor, senator, and
- 50:12Republican Party presidential nominee multiple times. He occasionally was off in political office in
- 50:19the US during the twentieth century, but mostly he was known for unsuccessfully running
- 50:24for various public office positions. His final term was the governor of Minnesota in
- 50:30nineteen forty three, and he passed away in two thousand and one. Yeah,
- 50:32but all during the I don't know until up to his death, but
- 50:37certainly through I think it was up until the nineties at least he was like
- 50:40Harold Stasen. Weugh me I tell Clake Trey Parker, but I've just noticed
- 50:46the note he has yees So. A studio album by Argentine rock musician Charlie
- 50:51Garcia is named kill Gill, same as the title of because it's in fact
- 50:54the Spanish world play for kill Bill. I when I was putting together the
- 51:00say putting together, when I was looking for images for the new names and
- 51:04for the mailbag for this for this episode, typed in kill Gil went to
- 51:08images and a whole lot of these things came up, like what al says,
- 51:14kill Girl? Simpsons? You have to put Simpsons sometimes sometimes you do,
- 51:17Yeah, hey, who wants some eggs? Ala Herald's station? They're
- 51:25always running. Do you really understand what that means? Have you ever laughed
- 51:36at Jake when you didn't get it and you're like, please don't ask me
- 51:37if I know ye Sometimes you're like you know this and you're just like,
- 51:40oh yeah, yeah, yeah. It's like because then they look at you.
- 51:43Fine, You're like, don't ask any further questions. We're gonna have
- 51:47an unspoken agreement to us. I'm gonna laugh at your esoteric gag. You're
- 51:52not gonna call me on whether or not I fully get it. Okay,
- 51:55you feel smart, and I've given you a little validation. Let's just leave
- 52:00it at that. But now we get Marge says it, you know a
- 52:02bit of Christian charity poet start and I like that. Play there, play
- 52:07it. Then Marge says she'll she'll throw them out, and a lot of
- 52:09markets that don't work. When he's a parent of kids, you find a
- 52:13lot of these things around the house because you buy like a pack of texts
- 52:15and they use a text up, throw the lid away, and it's like,
- 52:17how many fucking texters are in this house that don't work? I've found
- 52:22myself of late, I've got like two coffee mugs on my on my desk
- 52:28full of pens. Yeah, and these pen has been sitting there for a
- 52:30very long time. But having a source of pens at your disposal is so
- 52:34if you're like a king, oh yeah, but they're always hard to find.
- 52:37So I think it was side for it a bits like I can't borrow
- 52:38a pen. You always embarrassed to ask for a pen. It's like there's
- 52:40more pens than people in this world, but we can never find a pen.
- 52:44Just having a box of pens out, it's just like oh yes,
- 52:45But lately I'm like, oh, oh, this pen's right, I'm gonna
- 52:47need a new pen. Time to grab one from my mug of many pens.
- 52:51It's dry. This is really dry. This was that like Margaret Mary
- 52:55Christmas Present, have a pin, have a big but actually the big classic
- 53:05fine that I used to take my notes for this episode was like a little
- 53:07dream listen a Gill. I sort of fucking you know, get be on
- 53:14your way by now. Really you gotta put me out on Christmas Day?
- 53:22Well, that's all right, I can go down to the men's shelter.
- 53:24I just hope that weird priest with the ruddy I ain't surf and soup because
- 53:29they wait, you don't have a place to live. You're the boom.
- 53:35I guess you don't have to leave till the holiday's over. Here's the boom
- 53:42been lowered, No Joe. Then he just throws the guilt chip, and
- 53:50I was like, oh, I don't want this guy anymore. No,
- 53:53No, I mean you're gonna throw me on Christmas Day? Okay, Well,
- 53:57I guess I'm just gonna have to go back to where I came from.
- 53:59Say, yeah, you kind of should. Yeah, I mean we've
- 54:01never seen him sort of weaponizing his uselessness. That's it before, and for
- 54:07him to do that this time around, it's like, oh wait a minute,
- 54:09Yeah, you are your own worst enemy. You kind of suck.
- 54:12We've seen him plead for oh please, I need this, I need this,
- 54:14but not the Oh well, okay, if you throw poor old Gill
- 54:16out, then I guess I'll have to go back to where I was before.
- 54:20Yeah, not cool. He's still there. On New Year's Day,
- 54:23he's got a New Year's resolution to move from the couch to the chair because
- 54:27he expecting a call from his boss at chap Pot Realty in Scottsdale. He
- 54:30wants to take it. He thinks they're going to ask him to take the
- 54:31office. Now, I did appreciate how you just it's meant to be.
- 54:35Oh yeah, sure. Gill's like, that's ever gonna happen, And that's
- 54:37the way they get him out of the house. I get the thing.
- 54:38That would have been better if they'd sort of done the rule of threes with
- 54:42it as well, or just you could have had a few good ongoing gags
- 54:45and the like Homer being scared of the Grumble and Scottsdale being the holy Grail
- 54:49for for Gill and you know he mentioned maybe just once or twice more throughout
- 54:53things like just waiting on that call from Scott's. Maybe they do mention it
- 54:55doing this. I don't know, but he I think because the phone rings
- 55:00a little bit later and it's his foot doctor that's right, yeah, and
- 55:02he says that's Godsdale. Yeah, but he plays up there. I don't
- 55:06played up, but the bron car is here, so March was like,
- 55:07I can't throw him out now. Then we get the transition, so it's
- 55:09Martin Luther King Day. A weird cut did you say? The weird editing
- 55:13here? So it's almost like they had the shot from like a wide shot
- 55:17of Gil sitting on the chair reading the paper, and then it didn't like
- 55:21zoom in on the paper, but the headline said Martin Luther King Day Today.
- 55:23We celebrate him, so we don't write. But it was just like
- 55:27they got the picture and then realized, oh, we'd have a close up
- 55:30and have just like cropped it because the quality of that steal was so blurry,
- 55:34that's right. Yeah. I was wondering, Yeah, it's like something's
- 55:37not writing. My brain clearly knew, yeah, and I couldn't quite figure
- 55:39out what it was and said it. Yeah, so it's just the still
- 55:42shot of the like the chopped the cropped version of that, of that wide
- 55:45shot. It's just on the screen for about three or four seconds. He's
- 55:46still need We have to let him stay. It's what doctor King would want
- 55:52us to do. Oh, that's it. We're changing doctors. Please just
- 55:54a few more days, March. Admit it. You just can't say no
- 56:00to anyone. That's why you have three kids. It's true. I do
- 56:05have trouble saying no. It all started when I was seven. Mardorie,
- 56:09we need you to hide our cigarettes in your dollhouse, No, Lorena,
- 56:22anybody. And that's why I have trouble saying no to people. Even Gil
- 56:32Merge, I have no idea what you were just thinking about. Why would
- 56:37you think I did? Hmmm, they've done this before this, Jake Bett,
- 56:44Why did you think I could? And it's like, oh I didn't.
- 56:46I didn't recall having having heard or saying that before about Yeah, well,
- 56:51so basically it's not that as you said before. They explained the joke.
- 56:53He well, usually it's like home is visioning something. Everyone's sort of
- 56:57sitting there going, yeah, is she okay? That's right. Yeah,
- 57:00saying that, I'm almost certain we've had a moment where someone's gone, Why
- 57:05did you think I could see that you're thinking that, you're not saying that,
- 57:07you're not saying it. Yeah, but now we're at MOS and home.
- 57:09It's sad he misses UPN now UPN TV station, right. I only
- 57:14know this because it used to have the wrestling on it. I think it
- 57:15was smacked down back in the nineties, early two thousand. But asked Homer
- 57:19if he misses the UPN network now. Since The Simpsons is a series produced
- 57:22by Fox now Disney, Fox only owned a few UPN stations. The episode
- 57:25aired just over three months after the network left the air. For some reason,
- 57:30I would think I was confusing the UPN with the ups which is a
- 57:32delivery service again unified theory or four finger discount, because we were talking about
- 57:37delivery services before. Yes, but UPN was the TV station he's referencing here.
- 57:42But he's annoyed about that as well as Gill and Carl says, as
- 57:44you were saying earlier, you have to allow Mars to throw him out to
- 57:46assert herself. I thought she'd never be able to. And I'm like it's
- 57:49a bit much for us to just because so she can't throw it, Gill,
- 57:52she'll never be able to assert herself. Like you said, it's just
- 57:54covering the fact that it's like, why doesn't have to throw them out?
- 57:58I've seen you throw at Grandpa about five minutes, even Lisa or a bug.
- 58:01Why can't all of them just go out? You know, It's just
- 58:05it's a really silly story when you think about it, isn't it. Yeah.
- 58:07I mean it's like it's a good concept there, but when you think
- 58:12about the execution of it, it just doesn't make any sense. Yeah,
- 58:14them just being too nice to for eleven months. Yeah, that's the thing
- 58:19too. It was just over the holiday season when people are generally generous.
- 58:23Yeah, yeah, and everyone's sort of using various means to try and get
- 58:27him out of the house, as opposed to just like, oh no,
- 58:30he lives here now man, not buying it, not feeling it. I've
- 58:35kind of experienced this with a with a friend of mine who needed a place
- 58:38to say because he just wasn't going well. I'm just back when I was
- 58:40living with my parents, so we would have been maybe nineteen twenty at the
- 58:44time, and I said, I you can say, to that place for
- 58:45a week or two, just sort of get yourself back in your feet,
- 58:49sort of out with your parents, blah blah blah. And then he was
- 58:51there for like a year. Oh my god. I look back now and
- 58:52just like my parents were saints. They never once asked for any money from
- 58:57him. They fed him, they washed his clothes. He stay there for
- 59:00free for a year. I'm like, no, wonder all my friends love
- 59:02my parents, say my sister. My sister's friends have always said that they've
- 59:06always seen my mom as like their mum because she just welcomes everybody in.
- 59:09You know. She's like, what is his friend doing now? I haven't
- 59:13spoken to him for a long time. He's Gil, he got what he
- 59:15wanted and he was out of here, a real estate Kingdin It's we now
- 59:23have another transition. February second Grand Hole Day. I thought you would have
- 59:27liked that Valentine's Day and Marge has rented that negligee that home of likes the
- 59:31legs going forever, rented the necklace. Yeah, but then gill enters eating
- 59:36her chocolates and I was like, oh man, this guy's shit. I
- 59:39don't know, wasn't a fan. Marge was bad to kick him out,
- 59:43and then the phone rings and he thinks it's the Scottsdale Boss, but it's
- 59:45the foot Doctor. I can't tell him that. And then Homer shows off
- 59:47the butcher shop, which was funny, and it's actually not that he can't
- 59:52close it because he's put on a ton of weight since he bought it.
- 59:54Now it's February fifteenth, Susan B. Anthony Day, seventeenth World Human Spirit
- 59:58Day. I don't know all these real things or they just thought they were
- 1:00:01funny, but half armed funny of them aren't funny. March fourth, Old
- 1:00:07Inauguration Day, seventeenth Sir Patrick's Day. He's all singing songs downstairs of all
- 1:00:10the losers of Springfield. Crazy cat Lady Kirk just looks like a bum.
- 1:00:15And Elep and Elepricorn who then fights fights the dog and dances on his head
- 1:00:21and a few seconds to film. I'm guessing, yeah, weird. April
- 1:00:24twenty eighth is Arbor Day. May eighth is v e Day. May ninth
- 1:00:29is James L. Brooks Birthday. At least that's funny. July third,
- 1:00:32Kind Appreciation Day, twenty fourth is Cousin's Day. July twenty seventh, Jerry
- 1:00:37Van Dyke's birthday in Australia. So's his birthday July twenty sixth, and I
- 1:00:40guess let's look that up. I don't want to cut the September eighth,
- 1:00:45it's International Literacy Day, and we're out at school and Gil stolen the kids
- 1:00:50lunches, and I'm like, why are you making these guys? So it's
- 1:00:53impossible to like Gil at this point, right, He's stolen the kids lunches,
- 1:00:58what the fuck? And he's given old nicotine patches, which he then
- 1:01:02gives in Nelson because he's trying to steal his lunch money, and he passes
- 1:01:05out. Then another transitions at tab A twenty fourth National Good Neighbor's Day.
- 1:01:08I thought Flanner should have been on the picture for that. Yeah, ninth
- 1:01:12Columbus Day, thirteenth, World Egg Day, twenty first Reptile Awareness Day,
- 1:01:16November thirteenth, Gingerbread House Day, and then November twenty fourth, the day
- 1:01:20after Thanksgiving them. We really actually could look these up. I don't know
- 1:01:23if we want to do it now, but I guess right, I mean,
- 1:01:25there are so many let's look up Reptile Awareness Day. I'm just going
- 1:01:29to type that and see if that comes up with a date. Reptyle Awareness
- 1:01:31Day. October twenty first, twenty fifty. Okay, so what is the
- 1:01:35thing? Yeah? Maybe because there are so many days, it's kind of
- 1:01:37like, hey, guess what today is such and such to day. I
- 1:01:39know it sounds weird, but it actually is. It's on the calendar.
- 1:01:43World Egg Day is a thing. Yeah, these apparently are all real.
- 1:01:45Our National Good Neighbor Day is September twentyeighth. These are I say that Taber
- 1:01:49twenty fourth in episode September twenty eighth. Apparently, thanks they're going to have
- 1:01:52International Women's So I guess that is that Joe been that. How ridiculous are
- 1:01:57these that actually days? I guess yeah. I think they thought it was
- 1:02:00funny that it would be like, there are some ridiculous holidays. We need
- 1:02:04to show the passing of time. How about we double down on the gag
- 1:02:07and, you know, have the most ridiculous holidays? She show the passing
- 1:02:09of time. Marge's raking LEAs now though, because it's the death Thanksgiving and
- 1:02:15eleven months he's been there for now, She's still frustrated. Though he's used
- 1:02:19to her leg raise it a pill carrots, and then ned thanks her for
- 1:02:22the Christmas card, but she hasn't done a Christmas card yet, and turns
- 1:02:24out he's photoshoped himself over the top of the family and she gives me a
- 1:02:28photoshopping freak and she says that's enough. Now she's going to go scream no,
- 1:02:30and I'm just like that. That's probably. Would you like, how
- 1:02:32pissed off would you be if someone made the family Christmas card and put them
- 1:02:36stuff on it and didn't tell you they're doing it? Oh? Quiet?
- 1:02:37Did the davis Has have a Christmas card? Nah? I thought Margaret Mary
- 1:02:42would have been all about it, just the point you told of me.
- 1:02:43Oh no, no, no, no, But we have American relatives who
- 1:02:46do that. American relatives. Yeah, yeah, My Margaret Mary has a
- 1:02:52sister, Denise. Yeah, married an American gentleman named Wallace, and they
- 1:02:57have two lovely kids, well kids, they're older than me, so they
- 1:03:00are full grown adults. But they're really really nice people. Uh. And
- 1:03:07my niece Orman, No, my cousin Carolyn lives in Austin, Texas.
- 1:03:12Got a lot of guns, apparently, my nephew Rory went over to visit
- 1:03:17like we were at shooting. It was fantastic. But now Karen is fantastic
- 1:03:22and she every year will send a photo of her, her husband and their
- 1:03:28son. You know, they've sort of got the Christmas. Christmas sweater is
- 1:03:31not over the top, but it's like, no, this is Christmas y
- 1:03:35and yeah, an actual card, an actual card in the mail. Yeah,
- 1:03:38well most people just like emails now, yeah, no, we get
- 1:03:43it like in February. Uh, but yeah, I notice like it's been
- 1:03:47a great year for us. And here's what's here's the update. Here's the
- 1:03:51update essentially, like this is is very American and also very nice. She
- 1:03:55goes to say no to girl, but he's now gone. He's he's actually
- 1:03:58been picked up for a gee in Scott's. That's right. I just found
- 1:04:01my a dumption and I like it. Marge Simpson is gonna say no,
- 1:04:08gil Gil gil Gil's gone back to Scottsdale. Problems of tender storry? Do
- 1:04:15we have ten CAGs for dinner? Gil's gone? But I have a no
- 1:04:17inside me that has to come out. Hey Mark, do you want a
- 1:04:20thousand dollars? No? I mean yes, you're late, don't worry.
- 1:04:28I make six of those a year? What the fuck was? Yeah?
- 1:04:33Yeah, don't get it, don't like it. I make six of these
- 1:04:38a year? Really, okay, so you tell me that I only makes
- 1:04:41six thousand dollars a year. But they have lived in this house. They
- 1:04:45can afford to go to school and feed and eat and come on, this
- 1:04:50was the home in this episode was horrendous. Was not great, but it
- 1:04:56isn't necessarily character just the writing of home it was just horrendous. I don't
- 1:05:00know when it came back from commercial March. She says she needs this otherwise
- 1:05:02she will never be able to say no. I'm like, what the fuck
- 1:05:06is this story? I kind of understand it to some degree. I mean,
- 1:05:10I think everyone in substage their life has had a niggling thing where it's
- 1:05:13kind of like I needed to tell that person how I feel about them,
- 1:05:16but not the whole. I'll never be able to say no ever. If
- 1:05:18I don't say no to Gil. Well, they need Yeah, they needed
- 1:05:23to flesh that out a little bit more then, but Lisa's not sure what
- 1:05:27she can do much we're gonna do. When to go to Scottsdale and they
- 1:05:30bring up the Triple Tree resort here, which is a play on apparently Hilton
- 1:05:31resorts have double tree resorts. I did not know this. Me have look
- 1:05:35here. Yeah, so I'm asked that they can stay at a triple tree
- 1:05:39resort. This is a reference to the double Tree brand of Hilton Hotels.
- 1:05:42Wow, okay, apparently they're not a fan of Hilton Hotels. I guess
- 1:05:45in two thousand and six everyone was all about hating Paris Hilton, right,
- 1:05:47I imagine, so, yes, as they are in twenty twenty two.
- 1:05:51Oh, hating on her baby, we're in twenty twenty three hours. Yeah,
- 1:05:55yeah, but hating on her baby. I was like, guys,
- 1:05:57I get those Paris Hilton, but don't make fun of the baby. I'll
- 1:06:02ask these active seniors if they know Gil. I'll have you know. I'm
- 1:06:05thirty two. There he is. Gunderson Kills a big shot, and I
- 1:06:25think he and I went share to show. I don't care how successful Gill
- 1:06:30is. He's still a mooch and I need to tell him. I'm sure
- 1:06:33we knew it was Gunissan with Ah. It's just because this was still like
- 1:06:36eighteen years ago. He just assumed, or how long ago was this?
- 1:06:39Two thousand and six. That's eighteen years seventeen year ago, seventy years Yeah,
- 1:06:42seventeen years ago. Yeah, full a discat your home of maths.
- 1:06:46But it's revealed here. His last name is Gunderson. He's on the billboard.
- 1:06:49He's number one in Scottsdale and now hums and love and to think I
- 1:06:53want you here to shower with him in Margins. I don't care. I
- 1:06:55still want to say no to him. Are going to put him in his
- 1:06:57place. So they arrive one hundred and seventeen degrees outside. So Homer reminds
- 1:07:00Santas sort of helper who's been locked in the car with the windows up,
- 1:07:02that this water bowl under the seat or something. I just had a what
- 1:07:06I think is not a bad idea for March to confront Gil. He's like
- 1:07:14trying to sell a house at the actual house. Yeah, and they see
- 1:07:17him, like they see through a window, like he's lying on a couch
- 1:07:20or something, and they think he's moochie. If someone else, I've got
- 1:07:24to go tell him off, and you know, sort of you know,
- 1:07:26word up these these people who live in this house. And it turns out
- 1:07:30that he's like, oh, this couch is how comfortable and she's like,
- 1:07:35he's a moocher and he did this and this and this, and they're like,
- 1:07:38well, we were going to buy this house for this amount of money,
- 1:07:40but now we're not, you know, and I'm going to tell my
- 1:07:42uncle, the owner of the real estate company. And that's how Gill loses
- 1:07:45his job. Rather than calling out in front of all these other people,
- 1:07:47the whole calling him out in front of everybody and just being fire for I
- 1:07:50was like, wait, why is he if he's number one? Yeah,
- 1:07:54I think he could like he was number one, wasn't he? Yeah he
- 1:07:57was. He was the alpha dog in the in the sales room and he's
- 1:08:00been yelled at by a woman. Now he's getting fired. Well the peck
- 1:08:03smelled weakness, they did. But he gives a great speech. You know.
- 1:08:08It's something about the comission you make. It's the smile on their faces
- 1:08:10knowing they own the land. Freeing clear. He's actually a pretty good He's
- 1:08:14not bad at his gig. And it's funny because you know, the character
- 1:08:16that is based on from Glengarry glen Ross is actually not bad at his job.
- 1:08:19They do show in the film was like you get him in a room
- 1:08:23and he's actually pretty good. But you know, some people just don't want
- 1:08:27to buy. I do like the line of he's as pathetic as us.
- 1:08:30I did like Gil still pretty confident. He has watch me change it from
- 1:08:34furiust to curious because I like trying. Yes, the only house I'm interested
- 1:08:40in is my own, which you defiled for eleven hellish months. But now
- 1:08:45I've wanted to say no. Not the emotion, not of manipulation and a
- 1:08:49big fan note of the King's Bridge School district. Oh come on, and
- 1:08:56you can't say no to old Gilly. He's as pathetic as we are.
- 1:09:06I put you in charge of this office because I thought you could tame this
- 1:09:10town you food. And then it comes to him, I'm assuming they've gone
- 1:09:16into a house that Gill has recently sold. I'm guessing that, But wouldn't
- 1:09:21you have had a house in Scottsdale. It almost feels like, because because
- 1:09:26the letterbox says the Simpsons, we've got to make it up to Gill,
- 1:09:28let's buy a house in Scottsdale. I don't even know. And then it's
- 1:09:32backed up with the Grumple family arriving and them singing the singing the Stummer song
- 1:09:35about Grumpel Grumple Grew. This episode has ended. Yeah, uh, the
- 1:09:42worst Christmas episode of The Simpsons to date by a long margin. And I
- 1:09:45don't I dare I say not even a Christmas episode Christmas in name only?
- 1:09:49What do we learn, Bomber? What did you learn from the episode of
- 1:09:53Davis that when Sander says he's making presents, he's making presents. Send We're
- 1:09:58taking a few kids of the pool? The South Park was make few kids
- 1:10:00off at the pool? Yeah? What's taking the Browns to the super Bowl?
- 1:10:03Giving a given birth to a Brown baby boy or something? I don't
- 1:10:06know it. It was full one. But I learned you know what I
- 1:10:11didn't learn? Actually, I didn't learn what the Grumple actually is. Is
- 1:10:14he real or is he not? Because it was never confirmed at the end
- 1:10:15of this episode. I guess we're supposed to believe he's real because he's got
- 1:10:18a family. Yeah, I mean, this is the first time the Grumple
- 1:10:21is a piecause I feel like, I think, was it really Grumple Simpsons?
- 1:10:26Maybe it's just I've seen him in various things. Also known as grumpy
- 1:10:29Grew, his first appearance was in this episode. Yeah, again, I
- 1:10:32would have loved it. Like you know, he's of course the heel of
- 1:10:36the ice Capades or whatever, and he's got a bunch of kids yelling him
- 1:10:40and go boo Grumple or whatever, and home is the only one who the
- 1:10:44only adult who boos him, and that really pisses off the Grumple. And
- 1:10:45that's why he's got his on his revenge trip. Yeah, because it was
- 1:10:49never explained why. I guess because Homer goes out there and tries to slitty
- 1:10:54straight with his skate. Yeah, but I don't know. Ridiculousness could have
- 1:10:58been fixed. Call your hands down there on. From miss day forward,
- 1:11:01your names will be It is time for the Guy Davis New Name Championship for
- 1:11:05season eighteen. The current leaderboard stands at this in first position, we have
- 1:11:10Luke McKay on ten points, Kyle muldoon on eighteen, second, and in
- 1:11:13third position Philip Jay Hawkins, who was the first person to ever have a
- 1:11:16three peat on seven points. Take it away. May I just say a
- 1:11:21lot of good new names this time around. This was a tough call,
- 1:11:27and of course I don't know who gave us these names. Dando just gives
- 1:11:30me the list of the names. None of the actual people who suggested these
- 1:11:33names, but I was very impressed with the majority of our entries. That
- 1:11:39said, one point goes to the most guonderful time of the year. That
- 1:11:45is Jack McFadden, which is his first time on the leaderboard this year.
- 1:11:48So what I'm Jack, You're now going to go into at least the wild
- 1:11:50card draw unless you get a few threes in the back half of this season.
- 1:11:54Nice work, action McFadden. Two points for mooch ado about nothing like
- 1:12:00that as well. Very clever that one. Oh god ooh. That puts
- 1:12:03Kyle now up to ten points equal first with Luke McKay. Well done,
- 1:12:06Kyle, the races on the races, but three points goes to gunderstuck.
- 1:12:15Oh boy, oh boy. You know what you've done here? What have
- 1:12:17I done? You have now made it a three way tie in first position
- 1:12:20on ten points. It's Philip jay Hawks there with a three point, So
- 1:12:25Luke McKay, Philip j Hawks and Cayle Maldon all on ten points in first
- 1:12:28position. And as I said, Fog, this is absolutely blind. I
- 1:12:31don't know who's giving us these names, but we have created a three way
- 1:12:36race. Wow, you watch them. Just send through like twenty names each
- 1:12:40next week. Oh brilliant, Oh good work everybody, Yes, well done.
- 1:12:44So first position is a three way tie. If you want to be
- 1:12:46a part of the Guy This New Name Championship, just going to be a
- 1:12:48supporter of ours on Petrie On all right, male bad questions here, Ben
- 1:12:57Lyons says to us, have you ever had a guest and longer than intended?
- 1:13:00If so, how did you get rid of them? Or how would
- 1:13:01you if you, how would you if you had to do that? Well,
- 1:13:04I spoke about my friend. I won't say his name name agame with
- 1:13:08j I'll say that Jav're listening Dano's coming over sleep on any can I know?
- 1:13:15Are you usually the person staying over? But are you he's actually an
- 1:13:19item? Or do you just come over and just like we can't get this
- 1:13:23guy to go away? But he cooks a mean burrito? Yeah, true,
- 1:13:28he does the dishes. Because I remember, we stick with the new
- 1:13:31episode of not he has Netflix and stand to lose the moment's stand. Yeah,
- 1:13:38we are indeed an item. Just confirmingously she's from Vancouver. M No.
- 1:13:46I mean I am not someone who stays all that long and I definitely
- 1:13:50don't have people over to my house. How often do you have people at
- 1:13:54your house? Not often? Not often? Not often? No, No,
- 1:13:57I mean the house isn't a mess or a scrace or anything like that.
- 1:14:00But at the same time, it's not really sort of it's not set
- 1:14:02up in a way it's conduced for having a lot of people over. It's
- 1:14:06it's not really open plan. It's rooms. It's got a lot of walls.
- 1:14:11The or the Nazi membiy probably wouldn't get in. Well, that's true.
- 1:14:14Yeah, I mean I've got to, you know, take all the
- 1:14:17pawn off the walls and parted in the cupboard. Why do you have that
- 1:14:20super Bowl in the living room? Yeah? For your core? Yeah,
- 1:14:24trying to build your your core. But having said that, I mean,
- 1:14:29as I mentioned, the Lovely Lou and I were in California. We stayed
- 1:14:31with her friend Claire for like two weeks and she must be so sick of
- 1:14:34us, but but she really enjoyed having us over. Lovely person Claire was
- 1:14:39fantastic. Jet Gordon says, has this episode affected you in your core like
- 1:14:44it did me? Since its release, I regularly referred to an unhappy person
- 1:14:46as grumpy grumpo League grew h. I think it affected us in our cores,
- 1:14:53and like Matt sick to, I thought he was referring to there.
- 1:14:56Yeah, I know because I can't recall actually seen this episode when it first
- 1:15:00air. I think it is the first time I actually watched it might be
- 1:15:01the same for me, actually so and I think Dan and I both both
- 1:15:04walked away from it feeling like we're walking away from this. Glenn Gome says,
- 1:15:09I enjoy the Christmas intro? What theme would you like? I can
- 1:15:12say what theme would do to the christ to the intro because he's maybe asking
- 1:15:15there how drop him to change what theme? Oh? Okay, so we've
- 1:15:17had Halloween's on a Christmas ones? What else could you really do? I
- 1:15:21did like that when Bart was fat that time, even though it wasn't changing
- 1:15:24the theme, it was just changing the fact that he was overweight. I
- 1:15:27would mind of Valentine's Day one that was kind of romantic, Valentine's Easter Eggs
- 1:15:31Eastern one. But we don't know any other big sort of holidays are they?
- 1:15:38Well, thanks to him, but we didn't really celebrate that here.
- 1:15:40But yeah, I'm not too sure. Katie g says, a celebrity you'd
- 1:15:43think would be the most annoying to stay at your house. I'm going to
- 1:15:46say Andy Dick, Yeah, that's a good one. Or Tom Green.
- 1:15:55I know Tom Green slides straighten himself out now, but like early two thousands,
- 1:15:58Tom Green, I feel like you'd be like someone just stop trying to
- 1:16:00get attention. Yeah, stop riffing. Yeah, no wild pranksters, yeah,
- 1:16:04put my rat down, stop putting it on your tongue. You know,
- 1:16:10those are both very good answers. Yeah. I think anyone who sort
- 1:16:13of prizes themselves on being a rifster or a prankster who's a modern celebrity that
- 1:16:15shits you that you're just like, oh, just fuck off. Every time
- 1:16:17you see them on TV. This is terrible because they seem like a fairly
- 1:16:23good person in a lot of ways, but based on the way they're coming
- 1:16:27across on the screen lately, probably Ryan Reynolds, Yeah, just everything is
- 1:16:31kind of all smam all the time. It's always smarm, isn't it.
- 1:16:35Yeah? Yeah, I mean he's doing very well for himself, but you're
- 1:16:40right, he does seem like a lovely person, but just his stick can
- 1:16:43be grating at times. Yeah, So if I had to you know,
- 1:16:46put up with the Ryan Reynolds that you see in say the movie Red Notice
- 1:16:51or his cameo and Hobson Shaw be like, go away, Ryan Renolds,
- 1:16:56go back to Canada. Harrison McClure, Do you guys think you'd make a
- 1:16:59good mol sound? It's actually something I fancy doing when I'm tired. That's
- 1:17:00another thing. Actually we have fun. Would that be I could do it
- 1:17:03for a day? Maybe? Yeah? And well, depending on how it
- 1:17:06felt the end of the day. It's like, I'll see you tomorrow.
- 1:17:10You'll never see me again? Money, what's this wet patch of my knee?
- 1:17:17Andrew Swan, were you disappointed this episode wasn't actually a Kill Bill parody?
- 1:17:20I remember as a team being so disappointed. I will agree there was
- 1:17:25not even a reference to Kill Bill in this There was not. I mean,
- 1:17:29I thought it would have suited it because this episode, but like it
- 1:17:31kind of it kind of suits I guess because you do want to kill Gill.
- 1:17:35But that's that's the only thing. Yeah, and kill Bill was big
- 1:17:39at the time, but one and two both came out in two thousand and
- 1:17:42three. Right did they pull a matrix? Did he pull a matrix?
- 1:17:45I thought it was a year apart. Wasn't it about a year apart?
- 1:17:47Maybe that's what you're confusing with before with matrix when to kill Bill? Because
- 1:17:53volume one was two thousand and three, Volume two to two thousand and four.
- 1:17:56Yeah, and a couple more questions here. I've got a lot of
- 1:17:59questions. It seems that people would just like question heavy this is do we
- 1:18:02have one from Well? The next one is from Andrew JP. Guy always
- 1:18:05looks nervous when Andrew JP doesn't like, have we lost him? We lose
- 1:18:11Andrew JP? Shop He says, if you could write a Simpsons Disney short
- 1:18:16about Gill, what would your idea be? That's a good question. He's
- 1:18:20normally, you know, hitting us with the winners. I made a JP
- 1:18:24Gill short off the top of my head. Well, you wouldn't do it.
- 1:18:27Glen Garry, Glen Ross Parish, that's what that's his stick. No,
- 1:18:29and I know that we talked about Jimmy Stewart earlier. I mean,
- 1:18:31and yeah, Christmas time you think of it. It's a wonderful life was
- 1:18:34one of one of the new names. Woul Probably it's a gunderful life for
- 1:18:36this one. But that would be good. You know, having sort of
- 1:18:40like, oh, jeez, it would be better if something. Now I'm
- 1:18:42doing the Jimmy Stewart and badly like, ah, what it would be better
- 1:18:45if I have never been born? And then I don't know, you cut
- 1:18:47back and go to all the Gill stuff that you've had throughout the seasons and
- 1:18:53maybe just riff on those a little bit. It's like, oh, well,
- 1:18:56you know, we saw Gill that time, but then this happened,
- 1:18:58and it's set up something bad that happened as a result, or you know,
- 1:19:01things were worse as a result because we didn't get to make fun of
- 1:19:04Gil. But I like Gil's attitude of like never give up. Yeah.
- 1:19:08There was something in this episode where he said something like long a's got a
- 1:19:11cup of coffee in it, tomorrow in the calendar. I'm like, that's
- 1:19:13a good motto to live by. It It really is, actually, and
- 1:19:15you could round out your Disney short with that. It's like, you know,
- 1:19:16he's got his cup of coffee and tomorrow's another day. Yeah, you
- 1:19:19know, and then you get the egg on his face or something like that.
- 1:19:23But I do think that could actually work. Yeah, good question,
- 1:19:26Andrew don Well, I don't want to hear from it? Eric, what
- 1:19:28about good answer? Gay? Eric looked ring up. It took me twice
- 1:19:32to get through this episode. I had to turn it off after home as
- 1:19:34Homer lockx Sanders or to help it in the car in the in the heat.
- 1:19:39Second play through, I was surprised and disappointed by the ending. I
- 1:19:41guess March had to buy a house to save Gil's job. Yeah, I
- 1:19:44mean, I guess that's what we were thinking it was. Why is there
- 1:19:46a Simpsons had since Scots Downe Now? Yeah, it's so confusing it is.
- 1:19:50Anyway, thank you guys for your questions. Don't forget if you want
