- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:05Speaker 2: It's almost famous podcast.
- 0:07Speaker 3: We are sitting here right now in I would say
- 0:10Speaker 3: this is like the type of place Bob, that when
- 0:13Speaker 3: I sit here, all I can think about is I
- 0:15Speaker 3: want my wife sitting next to me. It's like a
- 0:17Speaker 3: memorable place.
- 0:17Speaker 4: I literally just said as we were walking up the steps,
- 0:19Speaker 4: my wife is gonna be so pissed off right now,
- 0:22Speaker 4: because Canyon would love this place. She went to school
- 0:25Speaker 4: in Berkeley, so she loves this entire area. And then
- 0:28Speaker 4: as we're walking up the steps and I'm seeing all
- 0:30Speaker 4: the concerts that have performed here and just the property
- 0:34Speaker 4: and the facilities, I'm like, oh my god, my wife
- 0:35Speaker 4: is gonna be very upset at me.
- 0:37Speaker 2: The Bachelor is known for romance.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Absolutely, this place is romantic. And we have Ali Winty here,
- 0:43Speaker 3: who's a part of the family for Winty Vineyards. Yes, Ali,
- 0:47Speaker 3: thank you for joining us.
- 0:49Speaker 5: Fun to be here.
- 0:50Speaker 4: Thank you for first of all, and thank you for
- 0:52Speaker 4: the shardonay. The winn Te shardonnay is famous, not only
- 0:59Speaker 4: you know, worldwide and globally and regionally and domestically and
- 1:03Speaker 4: everything else. One of my very best friends who lived
- 1:05Speaker 4: in Walnut Creek told me, first of all, he's like,
- 1:09Speaker 4: you're going to be horrible on that golf course today.
- 1:11Speaker 6: He was right.
- 1:13Speaker 4: Secondly, he's like, you are going to love the shardonnay.
- 1:15Speaker 4: And he and his wife would come here all the
- 1:17Speaker 4: time for all sorts of different events and things that
- 1:20Speaker 4: you guys do on the property, and he's like, you're
- 1:22Speaker 4: going to fall in love with the place, and I
- 1:23Speaker 4: truly have.
- 1:24Speaker 5: Oh, well good. You know, we are known most for shardonay.
- 1:28Speaker 5: My family's been making and growing wine here in the
- 1:31Speaker 5: Livermore Valley. We also farm in Royal Seco, Monterey, so
- 1:34Speaker 5: we've about three thousand acres between Livermore and Monterey in total.
- 1:38Speaker 5: But we've been doing that since eighteen eighty three, so
- 1:42Speaker 5: one hundred and forty one years, and I'm a fifth
- 1:45Speaker 5: generation member of the family and in that time, shardenay
- 1:50Speaker 5: is really what put us on the map. Way back
- 1:53Speaker 5: when we planted our first acres of shardonay in nineteen
- 1:57Speaker 5: eight and then nineteen twelve we had about four acres,
- 1:59Speaker 5: and you know, since then kind of propagated chardonnay forward,
- 2:04Speaker 5: created our own signature style, got a clone made this
- 2:07Speaker 5: is all getting really keeky. I love but yeah so
- 2:14Speaker 5: today And I know because they made me have a
- 2:16Speaker 5: terrible internship one year where I had to call a
- 2:19Speaker 5: directory of California wineries to see if they use the
- 2:22Speaker 5: weenty clone. So it's a little bit of research and
- 2:24Speaker 5: it's been a long time since I was intern age.
- 2:27Speaker 5: But hey, but through that we were able to say
- 2:29Speaker 5: that we think about seventy five percent of all California
- 2:32Speaker 5: chardonay has genetic roots back to my family's property.
- 2:36Speaker 2: No kidding, really.
- 2:37Speaker 5: Yes, really, we're the godfather of shardonay. I guess you
- 2:40Speaker 5: could say.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Okay, So this is how I imagine this podcast going. I
- 2:47Speaker 3: really want to get into like I want to do
- 2:48Speaker 3: a segment getting into wine. What makes wine great? What
- 2:51Speaker 3: makes wine special? Why your shortenay stands out? Because I
- 2:54Speaker 3: think it's important and I think it's a question a
- 2:55Speaker 3: lot of people ask. But I want to start because
- 2:58Speaker 3: this is most see an audio media that people are
- 3:02Speaker 3: gonna be listening to. We're sitting as Bob and I
- 3:05Speaker 3: are mentioning in some in a place that is special.
- 3:08Speaker 3: It is you know, it has like a this like
- 3:11Speaker 3: energy to it. It's it's a place that's romantic. Someone
- 3:15Speaker 3: be called like a sacred like it just feels like
- 3:17Speaker 3: a place when when you sit here, you don't want
- 3:18Speaker 3: to leave, can you.
- 3:21Speaker 4: Well to that point, the architecture, like I'm looking at
- 3:23Speaker 4: the windows, you have like a honeycomb window behind you.
- 3:26Speaker 4: Then we got like all these like cool like old
- 3:29Speaker 4: style windows. It's almost like an it's like a I
- 3:31Speaker 4: don't even know what the right I want to say,
- 3:33Speaker 4: like an Aztec.
- 3:34Speaker 6: Like type of finish, but it's not. But the building
- 3:36Speaker 6: is like this mission style classic California is such a pull.
- 3:41Speaker 5: Trees, palm trees, like you really are in California. Like
- 3:47Speaker 5: to me, it's quintessential California.
- 3:48Speaker 4: And was that intentional by the family, like like, let's
- 3:50Speaker 4: make this place be what we know people like I
- 3:54Speaker 4: feel like I'm in the Ohigh.
- 3:55Speaker 5: Valley Yeah, o High Valley. Yeah it's a beautiful place. Yeah,
- 4:00Speaker 5: you know, our intention is always to stay true to
- 4:03Speaker 5: the history and what's authentic to this place and bring
- 4:06Speaker 5: it forward to the future. So this site is magical.
- 4:11Speaker 5: I totally agree, especially when the light's hitting just as
- 4:14Speaker 5: it is right now around I don't even know what
- 4:16Speaker 5: time it is, I don't know what day it is
- 4:18Speaker 5: five thirty. It's like Golden Hour. It's just beautiful outside
- 4:22Speaker 5: and you could sit on that patio all night long
- 4:24Speaker 5: until the sunset.
- 4:25Speaker 2: So walk us through if you can.
- 4:28Speaker 3: For anybody listening what we're sitting right now in you're
- 4:31Speaker 3: event center that does some live music. What else do
- 4:34Speaker 3: you have on property? We obviously played the golf course today.
- 4:37Speaker 3: That is beautiful. I'd highly recommend it as a golfer.
- 4:39Speaker 3: It is a place that I would highly recommend people
- 4:41Speaker 3: coming to. Thank you, but kind of give us like
- 4:43Speaker 3: a quick overview of this property that we sit on.
- 4:45Speaker 5: Yeah, so it's a historic property. It was the original
- 4:50Speaker 5: Cresta Blanca winery back in eighteen eighty two and my
- 4:54Speaker 5: family ended up purchasing it and kind of reviving it
- 4:56Speaker 5: and bringing it back to life. It's now our main
- 5:00Speaker 5: home for wenty Vineyards. Are tasting Lounge as we call it,
- 5:04Speaker 5: so you can come here. You can do taste wine tastings,
- 5:07Speaker 5: group tastings. We also have a full catering team so
- 5:11Speaker 5: you can have your wedding here. We do big events concerts,
- 5:14Speaker 5: as you talked about, had some pretty big names throughout
- 5:17Speaker 5: the years. Now, Oh god, I mean I.
- 5:20Speaker 4: Saw Kenny g on the wall, Kenny, I saw Kenny G.
- 5:24Speaker 4: I saw a lot of people.
- 5:25Speaker 5: Well, yeah, you just tell us, quiz you.
- 5:28Speaker 6: I want to throw names out there that I thought
- 5:29Speaker 6: I saw that I don't.
- 5:30Speaker 2: I don't want to be wrong, So you tell us. Yeah.
- 5:32Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean we've had like, you know, the Beach Boys,
- 5:35Speaker 5: to Ryl Crow, Cheryl Crow, Ye, Kenny Loggins, you know,
- 5:42Speaker 5: like some classically big names. I mean there's tons of them,
- 5:48Speaker 5: so they're they're escaping my brain right now, but there's
- 5:50Speaker 5: some of them.
- 5:51Speaker 4: She's gonna have band from TV here soon. You Yeah, yeah,
- 5:55Speaker 4: I have a feeling. I have a feeling.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Next on the one.
- 5:58Speaker 3: Okay, so you've obviously had incredible talent come through.
- 6:02Speaker 2: You have the tasting room.
- 6:04Speaker 3: What else when if somebody came and visited, Yes, what
- 6:08Speaker 3: else could they experience here on property?
- 6:10Speaker 5: You could host a private dinner here, a private party,
- 6:14Speaker 5: food and wine pairing experiences. Like you said, we have
- 6:18Speaker 5: our championship Greg Norman designed golf course, so that's available
- 6:23Speaker 5: to you, and that's just all right here. You can
- 6:25Speaker 5: park in the parking lot, attend a wedding, go wine tasting,
- 6:29Speaker 5: play some golf.
- 6:30Speaker 6: Well moving, I say, this.
- 6:31Speaker 4: So we got to play the golf course today and
- 6:33Speaker 4: one of the you know, I hit my ball many
- 6:35Speaker 4: times into your lovely vineyards.
- 6:38Speaker 2: And you're just gonna stuff.
- 6:39Speaker 4: But I hit my ball many times, which I did,
- 6:42Speaker 4: and then awesome times they unfortunately escaped into your vineyards.
- 6:46Speaker 4: But I would find myself and that's something that most
- 6:51Speaker 4: people don't get to experience, frankly, like, yes, I hit
- 6:53Speaker 4: a horrible golf shot. It went, you know, into this
- 6:56Speaker 4: area it's not supposed to go. I'm trying to fetch
- 6:58Speaker 4: my ball, but I'm also standing in the vines. Like
- 7:00Speaker 4: I'm standing, you know, in the grapes, and it's like
- 7:04Speaker 4: that was kind of a cool moment for me, Like
- 7:06Speaker 4: I was literally like looking for my ball and then
- 7:08Speaker 4: I and we even took a video of it.
- 7:11Speaker 6: I'm like, look how beautiful this is, Like look at
- 7:13Speaker 6: these grapes.
- 7:13Speaker 4: And Ben's like, oh my god, you know, because Ben's
- 7:15Speaker 4: Ben's a little more sensitive than I am, and he
- 7:17Speaker 4: notices things that I might miss. And Ben's like, look
- 7:21Speaker 4: at how lovely these gorgeous vines are.
- 7:23Speaker 6: And I'm like, holy smokes, he's right.
- 7:24Speaker 4: So we took a video of them, but it was
- 7:27Speaker 4: like something that most people don't get to experience. And
- 7:29Speaker 4: so when you play the golf course, if you do
- 7:31Speaker 4: hit a foul shot occasionally, which I did and do,
- 7:36Speaker 4: you will get to experience your vines up close and
- 7:38Speaker 4: personal and you.
- 7:39Speaker 5: Will say goodbye to your ball.
- 7:40Speaker 6: I couldn't find it many times.
- 7:42Speaker 5: Yeah, no, I mean the golf course is really special.
- 7:44Speaker 5: It is you know, up and down the hillsides. It's
- 7:48Speaker 5: built into the vineyards. We make wine from the vineyards
- 7:52Speaker 5: in the course. So he goes into our wet More
- 7:54Speaker 5: vineyard cabernet and we you know, it's amongst oak trees,
- 8:00Speaker 5: sycamore trees. There's wildlife out there. Careful, don't go search.
- 8:04Speaker 4: I thought I was being chased by a fox or
- 8:07Speaker 4: a coyote and there are olive trees.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a moment.
- 8:11Speaker 3: I don't know if you've ever been here, but there
- 8:13Speaker 3: was a moment where I was on the course and
- 8:14Speaker 3: I feel like I was like in Israel. There's the
- 8:16Speaker 3: olive trees, and there's the hills and there's this like
- 8:19Speaker 3: there's this greenery around it. I mean, it's it's a
- 8:22Speaker 3: really incredibly beautiful place.
- 8:24Speaker 2: This course.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Every time you turned around, there was a view or
- 8:27Speaker 3: something new to look at. I've never played a course
- 8:31Speaker 3: in the midst of vineyards?
- 8:33Speaker 2: Is this one a few that you know?
- 8:35Speaker 4: Of?
- 8:36Speaker 5: As far as I know, we're the only winery that
- 8:39Speaker 5: also owns and has its own vineyard. So I can't say, though,
- 8:44Speaker 5: if there's vineyards on other courses, but I think we're
- 8:48Speaker 5: pretty unique in the sense that we have a vineyard
- 8:50Speaker 5: in a golf course.
- 8:51Speaker 3: And you said that the reason the golf course exists
- 8:54Speaker 3: here is because it's kind of your dad's, like it
- 8:56Speaker 3: was your dad's dream, right, Yeah.
- 8:58Speaker 5: It was definitely his vision and his dream. You know,
- 9:00Speaker 5: we own so many acres of land, and for him,
- 9:04Speaker 5: it's always been how can we make the Livermore Valley
- 9:07Speaker 5: a true destination and have people come here and have
- 9:11Speaker 5: many reasons to come here. Obviously wine is one of
- 9:13Speaker 5: those reasons, but if people are coming here for golf,
- 9:15Speaker 5: they're more likely to also drink wine while they're out here.
- 9:17Speaker 5: You know, they need multiple activities to do so it
- 9:20Speaker 5: was born of that, and of course his love for golf.
- 9:23Speaker 5: I mean, my grandma always tells this story about how
- 9:26Speaker 5: the principle of my dad's school when he was in
- 9:30Speaker 5: high school used to call her all the time because
- 9:32Speaker 5: my dad was playing hookey that he was on the
- 9:34Speaker 5: golf course and my grandma was like, well, he's going
- 9:37Speaker 5: to have a great shot. Like you know, my whole
- 9:39Speaker 5: family loves golf, so he's never in trouble for it,
- 9:42Speaker 5: and here we are to so great. Well, yeah, he's
- 9:47Speaker 5: a pretty easy guy to get.
- 9:48Speaker 2: A very nice dude.
- 9:49Speaker 6: I like to call him Filipedia Philipedia.
- 9:51Speaker 5: Yeah, he's our historian, our little well loved knowledge.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:55Speaker 4: I think there's you know, there's there's got to be
- 9:56Speaker 4: so much history to this land and what you guys
- 10:00Speaker 4: had done with it. I mean, I mean obviously, you know,
- 10:02Speaker 4: like I mentioned, it's a storied land for the Shardenay.
- 10:06Speaker 4: But man, I gotta be honest. I had a great
- 10:09Speaker 4: Milo tonight as well. I had a really beautiful cop
- 10:11Speaker 4: you know, the the Sauvigny and Blanc was amazing. So
- 10:16Speaker 4: it's like everything I had was so good. But how
- 10:20Speaker 4: did you become known for the Shardnay? Like why was
- 10:22Speaker 4: that the one thing that somehow took you guys over
- 10:24Speaker 4: the top.
- 10:25Speaker 5: Yeah, well, I think it's because of the you know,
- 10:28Speaker 5: our cultivation of a specific style of chardonnay, so and
- 10:33Speaker 5: in the fact that we had these vineyards planted in
- 10:35Speaker 5: nineteen twelve, and it was a whole lot easier to
- 10:38Speaker 5: come to our property and get a cutting and plant
- 10:40Speaker 5: shardenay in your vineyards, then go figure out how to
- 10:43Speaker 5: get cuttings from Burgundy, which is what we did. So
- 10:45Speaker 5: we had imported Burgen cuttings from Murceau and Montpellier and
- 10:50Speaker 5: created our selection based off of those cuttings, and so
- 10:55Speaker 5: people were then taking our style that we were really
- 10:58Speaker 5: creating in My great grand father, the one who really
- 11:01Speaker 5: started this program, was looking for stone fruit musque and
- 11:08Speaker 5: a little bit of citrus, and so he had a
- 11:10Speaker 5: select style that he was looking for and he really
- 11:13Speaker 5: would taste the berries each harvest, tape the vines that
- 11:17Speaker 5: were the most flavorful, and for the next harvest he
- 11:19Speaker 5: would graft that into a new plot of land.
- 11:22Speaker 6: So he was the one who really kind of started
- 11:24Speaker 6: that whole flavor. He did exert.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:26Speaker 5: Yeah, And so now it has a really specific style
- 11:29Speaker 5: and I think wymakers have come to appreciate it for shardenay,
- 11:32Speaker 5: and so a lot of them use it, and that's
- 11:33Speaker 5: really what's planted around California. You'll see some brands on
- 11:37Speaker 5: the back of their label, we'll say they use the
- 11:39Speaker 5: weenty clone of chardonnay because it defines a specific style
- 11:43Speaker 5: and it's also a wonderful club. Yeah it's really cool.
- 11:46Speaker 5: Yeah good, it's really special. And there's some really fancy
- 11:49Speaker 5: brands that use that, and we'll say it on their label.
- 11:52Speaker 5: So it's pretty fun.
- 12:04Speaker 2: So teach me right.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Like again, if people are listening to this, so you
- 12:08Speaker 3: have to explain it more than what you typically would. Okay,
- 12:11Speaker 3: but if somebody's at home and they're enjoying glass of
- 12:14Speaker 3: wine while listening to this podcast, what is the best
- 12:17Speaker 3: way to have that first sip or taste the wine? Like,
- 12:20Speaker 3: what is the appropriate way to get all those notes
- 12:23Speaker 3: that you were just talking about to actually appreciate, you know,
- 12:26Speaker 3: your first sip.
- 12:28Speaker 5: Yeah, what I would do is, you know, start gently
- 12:31Speaker 5: swirl your glass, put your nose into the glass, see
- 12:35Speaker 5: what you smell. Maybe swirl it again, put it into
- 12:39Speaker 5: your mouth.
- 12:39Speaker 6: Hold on a second. I'm so sorry, oh empty glass
- 12:42Speaker 6: at glass is oddly empty.
- 12:44Speaker 4: I don't know why.
- 12:45Speaker 6: This has happened.
- 12:46Speaker 2: This is when he snaps his fingers.
- 12:48Speaker 4: Listen, Sam, Hell, you are so kind, Thank you. Yes, no,
- 12:53Speaker 4: you definitely can. Is there a way to a specific
- 12:56Speaker 4: porting methodology or not?
- 12:57Speaker 5: As long as it gets in the glass, Yeah, that's key.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Yeah, there you go.
- 13:01Speaker 5: Okay, you swirl it, swirl it, smell it, and swirl
- 13:06Speaker 5: it again. If you want to be fancy, I do
- 13:08Speaker 5: put I can't. I can't do this actively in talk,
- 13:10Speaker 5: so you guys will have to do it for me.
- 13:12Speaker 5: Put it in your mouth, take a little sip, swish
- 13:15Speaker 5: it around. You can open your mouth a tiny bit,
- 13:17Speaker 5: get a little air in there if you want. If
- 13:19Speaker 5: you want to be really fancy, yeah, there you go
- 13:21Speaker 5: and swallow it.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Now.
- 13:22Speaker 5: That's like, uh more professional way to taste it for me.
- 13:28Speaker 5: You know, sometimes I think wine can be a little
- 13:31Speaker 5: intimidating because we tell you what you're supposed to smell
- 13:33Speaker 5: and what you're supposed to taste, Like it's a tobacco.
- 13:37Speaker 5: It's a little complicated sometimes and it doesn't need to be,
- 13:40Speaker 5: you know, So I always say I actually don't love
- 13:43Speaker 5: telling people what they should taste unless they really want
- 13:45Speaker 5: to learn and they want they want to know. But
- 13:47Speaker 5: I'm like, what do you smell? What do you taste?
- 13:50Speaker 5: Because there's no really wrong answer in this Everyone's.
- 13:54Speaker 6: Which Reese just poured me. I did everything you said.
- 13:57Speaker 4: Yeah, it was amazing, Like there is like I don't
- 14:02Speaker 4: really even know what notes I'm supposed to look for,
- 14:04Speaker 4: but there's stuff in there going there's things going on
- 14:06Speaker 4: here that I wouldn't even imagine.
- 14:08Speaker 6: But I do have this question for you.
- 14:09Speaker 4: So, so you you grow up in this family obviously, Yeah,
- 14:14Speaker 4: you know your lineage. You know, I'm sure you grew
- 14:16Speaker 4: up running around this land, this property, do you know,
- 14:22Speaker 4: like you're in high school whatever, you're going to college.
- 14:25Speaker 4: Are you thinking, Okay, this is I'm going to take
- 14:27Speaker 4: this business over. I'm going to be the person that
- 14:29Speaker 4: runs this industry with my other family members, or are
- 14:32Speaker 4: you thinking, you know.
- 14:33Speaker 6: Like how does that work? My dad was a Detroit
- 14:36Speaker 6: cops so I was like.
- 14:37Speaker 4: Well, I'm gonna hand off flowers on TV someday. That
- 14:42Speaker 4: was my obvious path, Like what is your obvious path?
- 14:45Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 14:46Speaker 5: I wanted nothing to do with it, which is I'm
- 14:49Speaker 5: sort of a unique one of my family. I think
- 14:51Speaker 5: most of my family members wanted to work in the business.
- 14:55Speaker 5: For me growing up, you know, Livermore is a much
- 14:59Speaker 5: bigger feeling town than it used to feel when I
- 15:01Speaker 5: grew up here. It was a farming community, and I
- 15:05Speaker 5: was you know, it felt like it was everywhere the
- 15:06Speaker 5: family business. And I really wanted to spread my wings,
- 15:09Speaker 5: be my own person, not have anyone tell me what
- 15:12Speaker 5: I should do or who I should be. So I
- 15:14Speaker 5: went to school to be a broadcast news reporter. So
- 15:18Speaker 5: that's what I wanted to do. I was carrying around
- 15:19Speaker 5: a tripod and a video camera local TV. Oh thank you.
- 15:25Speaker 5: So that's what I wanted to do. And then I
- 15:27Speaker 5: had a kind of crazy internship in Oakland for one
- 15:32Speaker 5: of the local news stations. You know, crazy that what
- 15:35Speaker 5: people do in that business. I mean it's like fifteen
- 15:39Speaker 5: hour days in a van, You're going into a scary
- 15:41Speaker 5: situation and then they're cutting. Yeah, it's very It's actually
- 15:46Speaker 5: completely not glamorous at all. And so I thought, Okay,
- 15:50Speaker 5: you know, I like storytelling, I love to write, I
- 15:52Speaker 5: like media. What can I do? Got into marketing and
- 15:56Speaker 5: then I sort of fell into wine. And I was
- 15:58Speaker 5: living in San Francisco with my boyfriend now husband at
- 16:03Speaker 5: the time and really enjoyed food, love going wine, tasting,
- 16:07Speaker 5: love food and wine. And I was like, oh, you
- 16:09Speaker 5: know what am I? What am I pushing my family
- 16:12Speaker 5: business away for and then you get older and you're like, no,
- 16:15Speaker 5: this is actually pretty awesome, And I could go work
- 16:19Speaker 5: in an industry that's my true personal passion love food
- 16:22Speaker 5: and wine and work with my sisters, my dad, my cousins,
- 16:27Speaker 5: my aunts, my uncle, and feel so fulfilled. And I
- 16:31Speaker 5: don't think I ever really realized how fulfilling it would
- 16:34Speaker 5: be until I actually came back to work for the family,
- 16:36Speaker 5: which wasn't for quite some time later. But yeah, it's
- 16:40Speaker 5: pretty special and I'm so glad I did well.
- 16:43Speaker 6: I think we all are.
- 16:44Speaker 3: Yeah, so listeners out there obviously are hearing about Wincy
- 16:49Speaker 3: wines and curious. They probably are familiar with it, right,
- 16:53Speaker 3: Like they're they're familiar with the brand.
- 16:56Speaker 5: I hope I have definitely seen the brand.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Yeah good.
- 17:00Speaker 3: So you know, for somebody out there listening, where can
- 17:03Speaker 3: they find your wines? Yeah? All across the US really
- 17:06Speaker 3: kind of you know, are you have international distribution?
- 17:11Speaker 2: Where can they find it?
- 17:11Speaker 3: And maybe if they're just like dabbling, right, they're like
- 17:16Speaker 3: your your weekend wine drinker, they don't know that, like
- 17:18Speaker 3: which wine would you recommend?
- 17:20Speaker 2: They kind of start with entry level.
- 17:22Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, that's a good question. So, our wines are
- 17:25Speaker 5: available globally. We sell wine in seventy five countries around
- 17:30Speaker 5: the world. Most of our wines, not all of them,
- 17:34Speaker 5: are available nationally, So if you're listening, it really depends
- 17:39Speaker 5: on where you're located. We do have a wine finder
- 17:41Speaker 5: on our website, So if you wanted to go to
- 17:43Speaker 5: that plug in your life's website wenty vineyards dot com
- 17:47Speaker 5: and if you scroll all the way to the bottom,
- 17:49Speaker 5: there'll be a link that helps you find your wine.
- 17:52Speaker 5: And if you put your zip code in, you'll be
- 17:54Speaker 5: able to find the nearest place to you that sells
- 17:57Speaker 5: our wine. That's awesome, but you know, in the most part,
- 18:01Speaker 5: you could go to grocery, your local grocery store. You
- 18:04Speaker 5: should hopefully be able to find some of our products.
- 18:07Speaker 5: There's a lot more distribution here on the west side
- 18:09Speaker 5: of the country. The east side. It's there. It's just
- 18:12Speaker 5: a little spottier depending on where you're located. But yeah,
- 18:15Speaker 5: so if you're just getting into it and you're looking
- 18:18Speaker 5: for an entry wine, are we have a We're not
- 18:20Speaker 5: drinking it. It's a different shardenay than this, but we
- 18:22Speaker 5: have what I call our what I call what is
- 18:25Speaker 5: called our morning fog chardonnay, and it's super balanced. It's
- 18:29Speaker 5: like fifty percent stainless steel, fifty percent neutral oak barrel,
- 18:33Speaker 5: so it's not superbottery. It's not totally crisp, but has
- 18:36Speaker 5: a little body, but it's really approachable. I jokingly call
- 18:39Speaker 5: it our gateway shardenay because you know, for all the
- 18:42Speaker 5: people who say, oh, I don't like shardonay, I'm like, well,
- 18:45Speaker 5: try this. You know, shardonay can take on so many
- 18:47Speaker 5: different forms. It can be super heavy, super light. It's
- 18:51Speaker 5: one of those rare varieties that a winemaker really can
- 18:54Speaker 5: have a huge impact on. And so sometimes I think,
- 18:58Speaker 5: if you don't like Shardenay, you just had the one,
- 19:01Speaker 5: don't give up on it. Try something different. And that
- 19:04Speaker 5: one is kind of our I think approachable chardonnay. And
- 19:07Speaker 5: then we have a Southern Hills Cabernet, which is sort
- 19:10Speaker 5: of the brother, if you will, to that wine, and
- 19:13Speaker 5: super easy drinking cabernet. The tannins aren't going to totally
- 19:17Speaker 5: dry your mouth out. You don't have to have a
- 19:19Speaker 5: big fat steak to drink it. It's really lovely, and
- 19:24Speaker 5: you know, all of our wines are certified sustainable, so
- 19:27Speaker 5: is our winery, so it's all handled with care. We
- 19:30Speaker 5: plant the vines, we harvest them, we bottle them, we
- 19:33Speaker 5: package them, we sell them. So everything we do ourselves.
- 19:36Speaker 5: And I think there's also a quality that we uphold
- 19:39Speaker 5: ourselves to when our name is on the label. So
- 19:42Speaker 5: we want people to be able to trust us and
- 19:44Speaker 5: we want to feel good about it. How's our name
- 19:45Speaker 5: on the label?
- 19:46Speaker 4: Well, and from that perspective too, I mean from a
- 19:49Speaker 4: family owned vineyard. Yeah, aren't you one of the few
- 19:54Speaker 4: last remaining family own vineyards that doesn't have you know,
- 19:57Speaker 4: some type of.
- 19:59Speaker 5: Feels that way right that way. You know, there's so
- 20:02Speaker 5: many family vineyards now big and small, but we are
- 20:06Speaker 5: the longest continuously family owned winery vineyard in the country.
- 20:12Speaker 5: So we're now run by the fifth generation. Yep.
- 20:15Speaker 2: That's an incredible accomplishment.
- 20:16Speaker 4: I want to make sure we talked about that.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Let's go, So you are the longest family owned winery
- 20:26Speaker 3: in the country.
- 20:27Speaker 5: Yes, that has not skipped a vantage. So we've made
- 20:30Speaker 5: a vintage since our first in eighteen eighty three, even
- 20:33Speaker 5: through prohibition, we made wine for the church. We were
- 20:36Speaker 5: rearing to go and yeah, there you go. That was it.
- 20:40Speaker 5: M Yep. And we're farming, you know, the same plots
- 20:43Speaker 5: of land that we did all the way back in
- 20:45Speaker 5: eighteen eighty three, and Savignon Blanc especially, this is so
- 20:48Speaker 5: really loud.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I got to ask.
- 20:50Speaker 3: A question, curious about Okay, I don't know if it
- 20:52Speaker 3: makes any sense. Somewhere if you can't tell me, you
- 20:56Speaker 3: don't tell me.
- 20:56Speaker 5: I'm nervous.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Somewhere within your homes, underneath the building we're in, do
- 21:04Speaker 3: you have, like, what's the oldest wine your family still
- 21:07Speaker 3: has that has not been opened?
- 21:10Speaker 5: You know, we have some pretty old ones. We have
- 21:13Speaker 5: not from the eighteen hundreds. I wish, I mean that
- 21:16Speaker 5: would be really cool, but we have some like nineteen thirties,
- 21:20Speaker 5: but they're really like I wouldn't open it at this point,
- 21:22Speaker 5: Like it's really just memorbile.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Right, you wouldn't open them.
- 21:26Speaker 5: No, I mean it's going to be vinegar.
- 21:28Speaker 6: I always wonder what's the number of the like how old?
- 21:32Speaker 2: Like I'm just curious, like how old is it till
- 21:35Speaker 2: it's no longer good?
- 21:37Speaker 5: It depends? You know, that's a hard question because wine
- 21:40Speaker 5: making practices were so different back then, and then how
- 21:44Speaker 5: was it stored and a lot of the time it's
- 21:47Speaker 5: really interesting. People will call us and say that they
- 21:50Speaker 5: were cleaning out their cellar and found this super old bottle,
- 21:53Speaker 5: and they'll come drive it back to us. That's how
- 21:55Speaker 5: we've collected a lot of our old bottles. You know,
- 21:57Speaker 5: I wish that my grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather
- 22:01Speaker 5: had thought more about keeping some of these things for history.
- 22:05Speaker 5: They didn't so much. But we have a small collection
- 22:08Speaker 5: of some pretty fun unique wines. But yeah, thirties, I
- 22:12Speaker 5: would say is probably the oldest. And it's more just
- 22:15Speaker 5: fun to look at.
- 22:16Speaker 6: Their dinner parties of the family have to be so cool.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Can you imagine, like you got.
- 22:20Speaker 6: To meet Filipedia.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Yeah, well, like they have a big family like event
- 22:24Speaker 3: in life and all of a sudden, like dad's bringing
- 22:26Speaker 3: out this like nineteen seventy five.
- 22:29Speaker 2: You know, Dad's like.
- 22:31Speaker 4: Not, my mom's bringing out a bottle of white sin
- 22:34Speaker 4: and your mom's bringing out you know, like this classic
- 22:37Speaker 4: you know Shardona.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Is that true?
- 22:40Speaker 5: Like we bring out old ones sometimes not all the time,
- 22:43Speaker 5: but we do. We'll have some fun.
- 22:46Speaker 2: That's awesome. Well to close out here.
- 22:50Speaker 6: Adopt it like.
- 22:54Speaker 2: You're you're you're invited in.
- 22:56Speaker 6: Yes, well, my uber is here.
- 22:58Speaker 4: So I do have to go, but I want to
- 23:00Speaker 4: say we've had the greatest day here with you, and
- 23:02Speaker 4: thank you so much for hosting us, for hosting our
- 23:05Speaker 4: iHeart family.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Hey, before you leave, I do just to close that.
- 23:08Speaker 3: I think it's ali here to really tell us like
- 23:13Speaker 3: your wine. You know, people should go out look at
- 23:15Speaker 3: this brand. We'll put our names behind it. You should
- 23:17Speaker 3: go do it if you're having a party. But to
- 23:20Speaker 3: close this, can you sell just like the idea of
- 23:22Speaker 3: coming to visit here? I think it's intimidating for most people,
- 23:25Speaker 3: the idea to come to this place, to step in,
- 23:29Speaker 3: not this place specifically.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I think.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Most people are like I don't know wine very well.
- 23:34Speaker 3: I don't know how to do a tasting. I don't
- 23:37Speaker 3: know like even how how to pull up and like
- 23:39Speaker 3: what I should wear? Can you just close us with
- 23:42Speaker 3: Like if somebody's listening and they're like, this sounds like
- 23:44Speaker 3: such a fun idea, I just don't know how to
- 23:46Speaker 3: do it, what would you tell them?
- 23:47Speaker 5: It's like going to dinner, you guys, Okay, put on
- 23:50Speaker 5: a fun outfit, come out here. We'll guide you through
- 23:53Speaker 5: the experience. Sit down, we have a menu, we'll talk
- 23:57Speaker 5: you through it. You don't have to know how to
- 23:59Speaker 5: taste wine to enjoy wine. You know, we have these
- 24:02Speaker 5: wine making principles where we want, you know, balance, we
- 24:05Speaker 5: want the wines to have a sense of place. We
- 24:09Speaker 5: want them to taste like the variety they say they are.
- 24:11Speaker 5: So if you have a glass of chardenay, we want
- 24:12Speaker 5: you to say it sharday. Sure, but then we have
- 24:15Speaker 5: this other quality that we call yummy.
- 24:18Speaker 6: So that's what it is.
- 24:20Speaker 5: You know, you don't have to know what it flavors.
- 24:22Speaker 5: It is. You just have to know if you like
- 24:23Speaker 5: it and you want another sip, and if you don't,
- 24:25Speaker 5: that's okay. We have plenty others.
- 24:26Speaker 4: So you guys are kind of it's still a very classy,
- 24:30Speaker 4: but you're simplifying the wine experience for a lot of
- 24:32Speaker 4: people too. It's like, yeah, like I will say this,
- 24:34Speaker 4: like this was I agree with what Ben said. Like
- 24:37Speaker 4: coming here today, I was like, oh my gosh, you know,
- 24:39Speaker 4: we're going to this vineyard and it's this golf course.
- 24:42Speaker 4: But after being here, it's such a great experience. Everyone
- 24:46Speaker 4: has been so nice. Your staff has been so kind
- 24:48Speaker 4: to us and really inviting and wonderful, and from everyone
- 24:52Speaker 4: from the you know, the guys that like took our
- 24:55Speaker 4: golf bags, to everyone who's serving us wine here.
- 24:57Speaker 6: We've had such a great day, so thank you.
- 24:59Speaker 4: For having us, and thanks for being a part of
- 25:01Speaker 4: this with us, and for the Almost Famous family.
- 25:03Speaker 6: We've had a great day.
- 25:04Speaker 3: It's gonna be a great night too. We have a
- 25:05Speaker 3: big night ahead of us. It's gonna be awesome here.
- 25:07Speaker 3: So thanks for having USA.
- 25:08Speaker 5: Thank you so much for coming. We appreciate it and
- 25:11Speaker 5: my family will thank you. Cheers of course.
