So how do you say 'mother' in Amharic? Lucas: It's እናት. Say it with me: እናት. Luna: እናት. That's lovely. Lucas: And 'father' is አባት. Luna: አባት. Sounds strong. Lucas: Good! Now let's use them in sentences. To say 'my mother', you say እናቴ. Luna: እናቴ. So the -e ending means 'my'? Lucas: Exactly! And 'my father' is አባቴ. Luna: አባቴ. That was easy. Lucas: Now, what if I want to ask you: 'What is your mother's name?' I say እናትህ ስም ማነው? Luna: እናትህ ስም ማነው? That's a mouthful! Can you break it down? Lucas: Sure. እናትህ means 'your mother' - the -ህ ending means 'your' for a male. ስም is 'name', ማነው means 'what is'. So together: እናትህ ስም ማነው? Luna: Okay, let me try. እናትህ ስም ማነው? Lucas: Perfect! My mother's name is Almaz. So I'd say: እናቴ ስም አልማዝ ነው. Luna: እናቴ ስም አልማዝ ነው. Nice! And my father's name is Tadesse. How do I say that? Lucas: Say: አባቴ ስም ታደሰ ነው. Luna: አባቴ ስም ታደሰ ነው. Got it!
