- Adam Rutz: Today is October 3rd, and one of my really great friends, Brad Knoblock gets married tonight. And Brad probably doesn't even realize the impact that his example had on my life. So Brad quit drinking about six years before I got sober. And when I finally made the decision that I was done with drinking, one of the thoughts going through my head was, well, what are other people gonna think of me? Are my friends gonna look at me differently? Am I still gonna get invited places? Am I gonna be the weird guy because I'm not drinking? But eventually you realize something. You can't build your life around what other people might think about the decisions you're making to become a stronger version of yourself. And Brad showed me that before I ever fully understood it. I knew Brad and I was friends with Brad before he quit drinking. And then I watched the person he became afterward. I watched his life change. Watched him grow. And most importantly, I saw proof that you could make a difficult change, stick with it, and come out stronger on the other side. Brad never sat me down and said, hey man, you should quit drinking. He never gave me some motivational speech. He just lived it. And that example mattered so much to me because now I'm coming up on three years sober myself. And one of the biggest lessons I've learned is that you never fully know who's watching the way you live your life, the way you handle adversity, the way you discipline yourself, the way you keep going when life gets difficult. Somebody around you might be looking at your example and thinking, if they can do it, maybe I can too. So here's what I want you to think about today. First, whatever you're going through, keep going. There are brighter days ahead. I promise you that. Even when you can't see them yet, they're there. And second, understand the way you respond to your situation might become the example somebody else needs. You don't always have to tell people how to live. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is just show them. Brad, congrats to you and Steph tonight, and thank you for being the kind of friend who showed me what was possible before I was ready to do it myself. Lead by example, you never know whose life it's going to change. Mindset, process, discipline, execution, that's mental performance daily.
