- 0:27Source Production team for always being there by our side
- 0:30and making sure this train is going down the right track.
- 0:35Does that make sense? That's first time you said I
- 0:37know where you whip that. From I just like.
- 0:38It why are you trying something? I was thinking of a train.
- 0:40Do this for a long time. Honestly, it was working.
- 0:42Everything was working seamlessly.
- 0:44Last night in A5 you whip out some train track I woke up at.
- 0:474:00 in the morning from a train and I couldn't believe it.
- 0:50It was just random. But anyways, we are joined here
- 0:53by a new guest, guys. Uri Kirchner, hurry, welcome to
- 0:57the program. Or you're a longtime Wesley
- 0:59Hills resident. Did you grow up in Wesley Hills?
- 1:01No, no move to as the hills like almost 30 years ago.
- 1:04Oh, OK, Straight from Brooklyn, but I grew up in Washington
- 1:07Heights, OH. So you're a yucky I.
- 1:09Guess I am. OK, that's a fun fact, by the
- 1:12way, that most people I think know, right?
- 1:13If you're watching tonight's, you're a yucky.
- 1:15So Ori, you know, I see you around a lot and you're very
- 1:20popular guy in the community. Oh, thank you.
- 1:21Not only because you work out every day probably and yeah, but
- 1:25also because you have this 100 ride that's coming up soon and
- 1:28I, I, I want to hopefully get to that.
- 1:30I appreciate all the gear that you brought for us today, but
- 1:33she looks really good in it. I really.
- 1:35I look good on anything. No, that looks good.
- 1:37But these colors are really like standing out, like it's, it's
- 1:41noticeable, very discernible. Yeah.
- 1:43And it fits very nicely in my head, I have to say.
- 1:45And I'm getting a lot of stuff lately, Michael.
- 1:48My closet's filling up. I have all different various
- 1:51caps and and sweatshirts and polo shirts.
- 1:53I don't want to compete with prime source stuff, but looks
- 1:56good together. Yeah, yeah, Prime sure that wear
- 1:57this by this is obligatory. I have to wear this, but this is
- 2:01very comfortable. I like it.
- 2:02Thank you for bringing it. So Ori if anything.
- 2:04Else I live in three more courts.
- 2:05Just tons of stuff. So there's a lot of things that
- 2:07I know about you, a lot of things that I don't know you
- 2:09about you. I'll tell you, I did a little
- 2:10bit of research online. There is another Ori Kirchner
- 2:12that's in a get out. His middle name is Alfred.
- 2:15Do you have a middle? Name.
- 2:15No. That is me.
- 2:16Is that you? That is me.
- 2:18There is no. Different picture than Alfred.
- 2:19Gerscher Well, I hope it's a good one because I it couldn't
- 2:22be another a real 1. And I have to say, like my, I
- 2:24would never have thought that my middle name would have come out
- 2:26on this podcast. Yeah, I mean you ChatGPT you
- 2:29when it comes. Up.
- 2:30Yeah, OK, there you go. A lot.
- 2:31Of interesting things came up Yankees, some of which I'm not
- 2:33going to mention here. Oh, great.
- 2:34No, I'm just kidding. Everyone's always you mentioned,
- 2:38you know, from the Yankees community.
- 2:39They they always, Stefan can tell you they they like those
- 2:42middle names which are very embarrassing.
- 2:44Really, is that a thing? What's the most embarrassing
- 2:47middle name? Like my sister was, you know,
- 2:49Margaret, Gretchen and the you don't, you don't use those
- 2:52nowadays, right? Yes.
- 2:53It's Mildred. Exactly.
- 2:55Yes. Stephen Charles.
- 2:56Was it Charles? Oh, really?
- 2:58That's not so big they. Well, his father loved all the.
- 3:01Royal love your war. Are you a Tannersville guy?
- 3:03Also a. Big time.
- 3:04I'm glad you bring that up big time.
- 3:05I'm the president of the shul there.
- 3:07Wow, you're wearing a lot of hats.
- 3:09A lot of hats. You're a real estate attorney?
- 3:11Real estate attorney, right? Your middle name is Alfred.
- 3:13Right. You're yucky from Washington
- 3:15Heights. What?
- 3:16And Tannersville and Yucky for some reason go hand and yes, why
- 3:19is that? What?
- 3:20What happened? There, that's a great question.
- 3:22Rev Breuer is really starts with him.
- 3:24Rev Breuer, who is my great, great, my great grandfather,
- 3:28when he came from Germany and lived, brought the community
- 3:31from Germany to Washington Heights.
- 3:33He, they needed somewhere to go for the summer.
- 3:34So he started going to Hunter, which everyone knows some Hunter
- 3:37mountain. So he started going to Hunter
- 3:39for a few years and then and they had actually a shul that
- 3:42you talk about a long time ago, over over 100 years ago, around
- 3:47in the 1950s, not 100 years ago. And he moved a few miles over.
- 3:52He started going to Tannersville, and with some
- 3:55other families, they started the shul called Anjay Sharon, and he
- 4:00became the rabbi there. So because Rabbi Breuer was
- 4:02there, a lot of people from Washington Heights started going
- 4:05with him. Because Washington Heights isn't
- 4:06a place you really want to be during the summers.
- 4:10Just not a pleasant place during the summers.
- 4:11I got to tell you, I was there once for a weekend.
- 4:14It's not a place you want to be. At a weekend either.
- 4:15That great during the winter. Washington Heights.
- 4:17Ever. I know so little about the yucky
- 4:21history community. All I know, and I'm sorry, I
- 4:25hope I'm not, I don't want to offend you or anything like
- 4:27that, but when I like think about Yankees, there's something
- 4:31off there. There's something like they're
- 4:33very different. I can tell you I.
- 4:35They're almost like in their own little stratosphere, doing their
- 4:37own thing. Are they, dare I say, practicing
- 4:40a different religion? No, I get a lot of ways.
- 4:42I get what you're saying, but it it starts with Riftsham, Shafal
- 4:44Hirsch. I don't know if you know that.
- 4:45I've heard the name SO. Riftschafal Hirsch is more,
- 4:47let's say, well known from Germany.
- 4:49He was very, very strong against the reform movement.
- 4:52He really maintained orthodoxy throughout Germany, and he was
- 4:55the reason why orthodoxy survived.
- 4:58His grandson was Rev Breuer. Rev Royer was Rev Shampsville
- 5:01Hersh's grandson who brought that ideology of Torem Derek
- 5:04Heritz into America. But what is that ideology like?
- 5:08What do they do different? Like what do they stand for
- 5:10that's unique? Like what makes someone like,
- 5:13what are some of their traditions?
- 5:14What are some of their characteristics like?
- 5:16What it really does start from term Derek Harritz and Stefan
- 5:18is. Sorry, what does that mean?
- 5:20I'll tell it to you so Tory M Derek Harritz was really the the
- 5:25I don't want to use the tagline. It was the basis of so much of
- 5:29what rush I'm sure followers was standing for and fighting for,
- 5:32which was how do you align from kite Orthodoxy, halacha in a
- 5:37modern world? It's very hard.
- 5:39So when Enlightenment and Haskullah was very popular in
- 5:42Germany, we were losing Jews constantly, right?
- 5:46The the Jewish people were getting lost to all the modern
- 5:50and enlightened Germany. So Rabbi Schwellersch had to
- 5:54find a way to say, listen, the Torah works within the modern
- 5:58world. And he showed how Torah in Derek
- 6:02Herritz. Derek Herritz is, let's say,
- 6:03your job, your practice, your work, but that Torah works with
- 6:07it. And not just that Torah works
- 6:08with it, but that everything in Derek Herritz is found in Torah.
- 6:12He always said that Torah is the blueprint for the world.
- 6:15So whether you're a doctor or a lawyer or a gym guy or a biker,
- 6:20anything can be done within the parameters of Torah.
- 6:23And that is really what term Derek Herritz meant.
- 6:25So that's why getting back to your question, Yankees are very
- 6:30into having a profession being contributing to society,
- 6:35contributing in a professional in an economic way, but very
- 6:38strong and maintain him and hug him and hug him are very
- 6:40important. The Ashkenazm that they have is
- 6:43very important. So the Yankees that maybe you're
- 6:45thinking about, which I like you were saying different.
- 6:48They, they're very stuck to the old ways of our traditions of
- 6:53Menhagam. So our old Menhagam, and I can
- 6:56tell you a few of them, Stefanos are different.
- 6:57Like, for example, my sons and my grandsons will come to shul
- 7:02wearing a talent. Yes, something I've noticed.
- 7:04Right, that's a mimic that we have they.
- 7:06Also come exactly 3 minutes early.
- 7:08I come exactly 20 minutes late. So another thing is I'd say the
- 7:12Vimple. The Vimple is another Yakish
- 7:14mimic, the Vimple, the Vimple. So you may use Agarthal to tie
- 7:18up his safetara, right? But we use something else, which
- 7:21is a beautiful Minnog. When a boy goes to his breast,
- 7:25they usually wrap the legs with some material.
- 7:28So they what we do is we take that material and we make it
- 7:32into a long like say 30 foot long cotton piece of art with
- 7:37his name and his birthday and brachas and you got the latora
- 7:40kupa mazum tovim and it's done with pictures.
- 7:43And that is what we use to wrap all the Safetara in the show.
- 7:47It's called a Vimple. Instead of a Garth, we use a
- 7:49Vimple. And there's actually like, what,
- 7:51maybe two or three people left in the world who make them, and
- 7:54my mother is actually one of them.
- 7:56Shout out to his mother who made my vimple.
- 7:58That's right, Vimple's. You got a Vimple.
- 8:00I have a Vimple. You're sure?
- 8:01Of course, my son's a Vimple. I feel like I want a little.
- 8:04I feel like first I love that word vimple.
- 8:06I wish I would have brought you pictures because they're
- 8:07beautiful. We need to say the word.
- 8:09And suddenly. I don't know man, before the
- 8:11thing away from. That.
- 8:11But here's another beautiful part of that minhug boys.
- 8:14I don't know if you did it, Stephen, but when they get
- 8:16married they're very often wrap that vimple around the chuppa.
- 8:20I see. So it's the same one that they
- 8:22had when they had. Exactly by my son's wedding
- 8:24last. How much my mother charged for a
- 8:26Vimple. I think $600.00, I think it's a
- 8:29beautiful, it's expensive. So I yeah.
- 8:32So I think when you say like they're different, I think it
- 8:34was a. Very much high time and a very
- 8:36nice picture. By the way, so far so good.
- 8:38Keep going though, I. I think that's why I did.
- 8:40No, but it's true because I know, you know, I'm involved.
- 8:42My children aren't and all that. And Brooks, and we've married
- 8:45our four kids and I have another daughter in the market now.
- 8:47And when people see like, you know, yaki, like, what is a
- 8:50yaki? Some people don't even know what
- 8:51a yaki is. But Yaki's just someone from the
- 8:54German, usually the Kahala Sisuran shul, who has min hug
- 8:59him like I wait three hours. Let's say I don't wait six
- 9:01hours. I'm jealous.
- 9:02I'm like by. The way I could get him that
- 9:04bandwidth. Yeah, that.
- 9:05I'll take a Vimple for that hour, yeah.
- 9:07But that's why people marry into the yakis, because if you marry
- 9:09Yakish boy, you're getting 3 hours.
- 9:11Love that, by the way, that's. The worst is if you're a Yakish
- 9:14girl and you marry someone, you go into six hours that's.
- 9:17Yeah, yeah. So you guys do the three hours
- 9:18things, but I also notice I don't know many Yankees.
- 9:21I know a few here and there I come across, but they all seem
- 9:23to have very similar styles and personalities.
- 9:25Like there's something rigid about them.
- 9:28They're very particular, very proper.
- 9:31OK. But you know, Stefan is Stefan
- 9:33like that? I don't get started.
- 9:35Exactly. Stefan is like a subset of the
- 9:37yak. He's like an exclusive.
- 9:40He's. But he's blue blood, Yakich.
- 9:41His family goes way back. OK?
- 9:43Stefan's grandfather and my grandfather were best friends.
- 9:46Doesn't shock me. It doesn't.
- 9:47Say, Stefan, what makes you yucky?
- 9:52My last name. OK, his.
- 9:54There you go. Yeah.
- 9:55I'm saying it changed. I mean, it's like, OK, the same
- 9:57thing. It's it's, it's definitely
- 9:59evolved into a new practice. Yeah.
- 10:03And it's listen, this is much less as time goes on.
- 10:05Are you proud that you're a Yankee?
- 10:07I'm very proud of like what my family.
- 10:09Do you guys have like a reunion that could get together once a
- 10:12year old Yankees come there a convention?
- 10:14No. Is there a convention for
- 10:15Yankees? Where dinner used to be like
- 10:17the. Convention you.
- 10:18Know it's like a oh really? They don't have that anymore.
- 10:21But I I believe that the rigidity that you're talking
- 10:24about comes from that we always were very Medoican Armin hug him
- 10:30right. And like you said in the shul,
- 10:32like they're very careful not to talk in shul and the proper
- 10:35decorum for shul. Yes.
- 10:36And like you can't get in it. You can't get Naliyah in Breyers
- 10:40without a tie. You can't get called up and
- 10:43Chavez. Without a tie, it's improper.
- 10:45Yeah, it's not covered. So they have all these different
- 10:47hugging for covered basic messes.
- 10:48And I think that like permeates into people's personality that
- 10:51they sort of look rigid. But if you know a lot of yaki's.
- 10:54I want to give a shout out to 1 Yaki that I know and I'm going
- 10:56to call him out because he deserves it.
- 10:58And this is one-of-a-kind family and they happen to be a very big
- 11:02entrenched in the yucky community.
- 11:03Maybe you know them, the Meyer family.
- 11:06I don't know who they did you know them?
- 11:08Sure, a bunch of kids. That is one thing about Yankees,
- 11:11by the way. A lot of them know each other
- 11:12of. Course, I think we all.
- 11:13They're not a big community. How many Yankees are there?
- 11:15I mean, you can't. No, no.
- 11:16There's a lot of. There's a lot, yeah.
- 11:17And there are Yankees communities now in there to
- 11:19stroll and really New Jersey and Baltimore, different places.
- 11:23Yeah. Like, I wouldn't say it's highly
- 11:25growing, but people you. Guys don't like live together or
- 11:27make your own little community? No, but right all over.
- 11:29That's not true. We had a community.
- 11:30We had. It was Washington Knights.
- 11:32Yeah, everybody. There's still, there's still is
- 11:34a community of Washington. And you have Tannersville for
- 11:36this. Do Yankees support Yankees?
- 11:37Do do you guys like give business to each other?
- 11:39Like do you have automatically when you hear someone else's yak
- 11:42you feel connected to them? Do you guys hate each other?
- 11:44Sure, there's definitely connection.
- 11:45Hate, no, but there's definitely connection without the yakis.
- 11:47Listen, why else would I? No, because like I see this,
- 11:51like see this a person from curious year old from Monroe or
- 11:55from Williamsburg, like if they have an opportunity to give
- 11:58business to someone who's not from the community or somebody
- 12:01who is, they will they will give precedence to somebody who's.
- 12:04Connected. I don't think we.
- 12:05Have that kind of camaraderie between each other.
- 12:07I don't think so, but just by the definition of someone's
- 12:11yakkers and they probably grew up with each other in Washington
- 12:13Heights, you know what I'm saying?
- 12:14Yeah. So we'll you'll probably know
- 12:17the families and you're somehow probably related, you know, like
- 12:20Stefan's grandfather, for example, like created the
- 12:23bakery, the bakery and all the, you know, the big Runa bounce
- 12:26company. And so he was a staple there and
- 12:29my grandfather was the rub there.
- 12:30And you just know each other. Any and you mentioned the Myers
- 12:34right some. Wonderful people.
- 12:36Well, he was my favorite representation of what Yankees
- 12:39are about. Very much the.
- 12:40Kind of lives that they live. I have to say I'm a fan.
- 12:43I'm a fan and I might need to request if I can join this club
- 12:46because I'm big fans of this family.
- 12:48But they were just a dynamic family.
- 12:50The hospitality is is off the charge, by the way.
- 12:53They're very they're pretty well to do.
- 12:54They're pretty well to you'll never know it.
- 12:56They're very regular, plain, simple people.
- 12:58They don't flaunt anything and they're always there to help
- 13:01someone else. Just really kind, good-natured,
- 13:04quality people. And one thing that stands out
- 13:07about them is that they were Yankees.
- 13:08They were big, big Yankees. It's funny you say that because,
- 13:10like, the way you're describing them is the way I would describe
- 13:13most Yankees that I know. Really understated.
- 13:16A lot of them have money. You don't know it.
- 13:18Not private jetting all over the place makes sense makes sense.
- 13:21So that's something that's a good stigma that you know is
- 13:24positive. But listen, we spent a lot of
- 13:26your time on on Yankees. I appreciate the education I.
- 13:29Appreciate. I appreciate you bringing up
- 13:30Tanzvi. I love Tanzo.
- 13:31Tanzo is a very soft heart. My spot in my heart.
- 13:35I love it. Yeah, I've been going this how?
- 13:38I'm 53, so 53 straight summers. Wow.
- 13:41My kids are going up there for shopping as we speak.
- 13:43What is this Tannersville? Tannersville One where
- 13:46Tannersville. You guys have a house there like
- 13:47it's a fantastic. We have a number of houses,
- 13:49yeah, everything centers around the shul, but there's there's
- 13:52actually 4 shules already. There's a casita shul, there's a
- 13:55big labavage shul, there's a beautiful day camp we have.
- 13:59Yeah. My mother's been there for 70
- 14:01years already, you know. It's are Yankees particular
- 14:05about marrying other Yankees or they don't?
- 14:06Care. So that used to be much more
- 14:07like that. But it used to be like that.
- 14:09None of my kids married Yankees. Did you attempt at least to
- 14:13like? I'm always interested was.
- 14:14That on your list of things when you're at the qualification.
- 14:16No, see if you can get another Yankees now, but the girls are
- 14:18looking for the three hours. I would say that and some of my
- 14:21son in laws are seriously considering taking up that
- 14:24minimum you. Have a pretty popular
- 14:26son-in-law, Maishi Tischler. Yes, I'm very proud of my no.
- 14:29I called all my son in laws. I.
- 14:30Called him before the show here today.
- 14:32Oh seriously? I'm getting a fun.
- 14:33Fact. Oh, that's not good.
- 14:35That's not good. He for sure mentioned the gym,
- 14:37I'm sure. But by the way, he goes to the
- 14:40gym with me. What gym is this?
- 14:42Maishi's in that gym. Who's the guy?
- 14:44In Maishi, who is he? Leshie Tischler No, no, no.
- 14:47Stop it. Ishie, stop it.
- 14:48I don't I don't know Meshie Tischler mom.
- 14:50He's like the number one wedding singer.
- 14:51The number one wedding singer? Yes.
- 14:53Yes. That's not Liebish Meltzer
- 14:55anymore. Not for the litfish.
- 14:59Does he have records? Does he put out music?
- 15:01Well, he does. I guess he didn't reach you.
- 15:03Yeah, he started a little while ago, but his, his, he has a.
- 15:05Beautiful voice. Give me one of his songs, one of
- 15:07his popular. Songs.
- 15:08No, it's not about his popular songs.
- 15:09It's about how well he sings at wedding, exactly.
- 15:11And how he performs at a wedding and how he brings his energy and
- 15:14his just. It's beautiful.
- 15:15And not to say that Barry Webber doesn't kill it at every
- 15:17wedding. Right.
- 15:18But Maishi Tusler is known to be the wedding singer.
- 15:21Yeah. OK.
- 15:22Besides that, he's been coming out with his own, I think.
- 15:24He's the best wedding singer, right?
- 15:25Now the best. Yeah.
- 15:26So yeah, I mean, you're a father.
- 15:28You ask me. What is your charge?
- 15:30What is your charge for a wedding?
- 15:31I don't know. It's a good question.
- 15:32I don't know. Is it in the 1520 thousand?
- 15:34Rate. No, no, it's definitely under
- 15:3610. He's not the best.
- 15:37No, no, no, I had the most. We had somebody on not too long
- 15:40ago. He charges $18,000.
- 15:41Because he's a musical sensation nationally, worldwide recognized
- 15:45with albums. Yeah, more.
- 15:46No, but. The boy, yeah, but the boys
- 15:47more. All the Poseidon want the boys
- 15:49who are the singer who's energetic, beautiful voice pumps
- 15:52up the crowd. He's an entertainer also.
- 15:54But he has a crazy voice, really beautiful.
- 15:56I would love to hear and my son but.
- 15:59He gave, but he gave your daughter six hours.
- 16:02He did, exactly. Voice nice.
- 16:03Mirror. Oh yeah, if she could take on
- 16:05three, he would in a second. You could do those things, by
- 16:08the way. You can adapt.
- 16:09I do have relatives who've done that, yeah.
- 16:11Go in from. 6 Does he do this for a living?
- 16:13Imagine. Yes.
- 16:14That's this full time game. Yeah, yeah.
- 16:16So a little, a little bit more about your background.
- 16:18So you're an attorney and you start?
- 16:20Real estate law. I have a a firm called
- 16:21Silverberg and Kirchner almost 30 years.
- 16:24Proper name for a law firm? Very, very yes.
- 16:28Mayor Silverberg is my partner. Oh, I know Mayor Silverberg OK
- 16:31from Forshay. Yep, very nice.
- 16:33OK, so now she's excited. Yeah, we've been partners for
- 16:36almost 30. Years.
- 16:37I don't know him. I'm talking as if we're friends,
- 16:39you know? You know about Neftali's son,
- 16:41Neftali Silverberg. Isn't Neftali your father?
- 16:43The father? Yeah.
- 16:45Mayor is the son, correct? Yes.
- 16:46Yes. OK.
- 16:46So you guys. Of course that's it.
- 16:47I grew up in Forshay. I know that.
- 16:49So he doesn't know me? Probably.
- 16:50I know him. And he was very cool.
- 16:52He was always very happy. He was always, you know.
- 16:56Is he yaki by any chance? No, Oh, he went to Brewers, but
- 16:58he's. Nice, There you go.
- 16:59See. See I we met.
- 17:00First in Brewers. I'm starting to get this down
- 17:02pat. Dad is also very well known.
- 17:04Yes, very. Very involved in the community
- 17:06in a lot of. Ways the activist
- 17:07philanthropist. He's part.
- 17:08About I wanted I wanted to talk about a lot about the the test
- 17:11of things that I do. But when I was preparing to meet
- 17:13you guys, you mentioned it, you brought it out right now.
- 17:16His father, Naftali Silverberg is I always consider him for
- 17:19sure my mentor, my mentor in the world of has said he is he's
- 17:25fantastic. He's a he's a great example of
- 17:27Yankee, but not being Yankee. He's he's a strong attorney.
- 17:29He's a successful real estate owner, developer, attorney but
- 17:33has so much has done so many fascid projects and how old?
- 17:37Is he? He's got to be real.
- 17:39Yeah, I. Remember when I was growing up?
- 17:40He was. Older Michael's mayor's already
- 17:43if I'm 50. Not mayor.
- 17:45How old's Natali? He's got to be in almost
- 17:46seventies, 80s. No, he's in his 80s Fifty.
- 17:48Sure. And he's still involved in that
- 17:50Salah, and I'm on the board with him and at Salah.
- 17:52And he's, he was the president for a long time.
- 17:55He's great. Yeah, that's the family.
- 17:56So you started off as an attorney.
- 17:58It's the first thing you did you.
- 17:59I had career started working for Silverberg when I came out of
- 18:03law school and then we became partners a few years later and
- 18:06never looked. Back.
- 18:07Oh nice. What kind of law?
- 18:08What kind of law? Just transactional real estate
- 18:10buying, selling, refinancing. Not criminal, that's a boring,
- 18:14not the fun stuff, only the funds, not the stuff I see on.
- 18:17TV tell me what gets fun. I always say it's not the real
- 18:20law stuff, it's not like the courtroom litigation stuff,
- 18:22which I would be terrible. At Tell us a fun story that
- 18:24happened with you as a lawyer. I will tell you, I'm glad you
- 18:27asked that. I can tell you a great story of
- 18:291 of people always say what's your most memorable closing?
- 18:32I think my most memorable closing was Michael and I had
- 18:35like a three day closing. Imagine you've been writing real
- 18:38estate Closings, right? Yeah.
- 18:39Business, I mean, how big was our transaction?
- 18:41It was, it was actually a flip. So it was, let's say a fifty,
- 18:44$55 billion flip of a hotel. It went from day through night
- 18:49to day through night. It went constant.
- 18:52But everybody constant we. Grew bank lenders we had to
- 18:54miss. Bricks you were revolving
- 18:56around. Everyone's in this room, all you
- 18:57do is kept on bringing the food. Wow.
- 18:59Interesting it was nonstop because with all the different
- 19:02parts to this, it was it was nonstop.
- 19:04And how much money was this flip?
- 19:05You said over 50 million. Yeah, I thought we said billion.
- 19:08That's what I wanted to record it, right.
- 19:10OK. So $50 million flip.
- 19:11All right. But that's not the exciting
- 19:13part. The exciting part is that I got
- 19:15a kidney stone during the closing.
- 19:18Oh boy. And I get them sometimes and I
- 19:20got it's excruciate. I don't know if any of you have
- 19:22had it. Hospital, you should never have
- 19:23it. Heard about it?
- 19:24Excruciating pain and has tried to go through it, but I
- 19:28couldn't. So they rushed me to the
- 19:30hospital from this closing and it started giving me fluids and
- 19:35then Michael showed up like half hour later.
- 19:37Or I need you at the closing. I took the bag and we went to
- 19:40the closing and I finished the closing.
- 19:42Yeah, with the bag I hooked up, yeah.
- 19:44Like your IV bag? Yeah, they're liquids.
- 19:45I needed liquids so. Wow, so.
- 19:48We got that closing done. That was probably the craziest
- 19:50closing, yeah. A lot of money at stake,
- 19:53sometimes you gotta suffer through it 100%.
- 19:56And he did. You want them to hire you again?
- 19:57You've been some good ones. So take me through your career,
- 20:01your life, because I know that you started getting involved in
- 20:03a lot of organizations. You started one here that we're
- 20:05going to talk about, but how did that come about?
- 20:08You know, it's not so simple to start an organization.
- 20:10I could tell you from experience.
- 20:11So I think it really does start in Washington Heights and with
- 20:15the Yankee background. I think so.
- 20:16Like I was telling you, my grandfather was with Breuer.
- 20:19The amount of hesed that went on through Washington Heights,
- 20:23through the Breuer family, through my through my, the
- 20:27Kirchner family for my grandfather.
- 20:30I I'm Stefan can tell you. Do you remember the the Gemiles
- 20:34Kesed blood drives like that stuff?
- 20:36There was just always something. I think hesed was a big part of
- 20:39my family. My grandfather used to do it
- 20:41like the Brewers and it was just always in me and my parents
- 20:44always, always having guests are from the Yu program with the
- 20:48Iranian buckram coming every Friday night.
- 20:51I was raised on it and that's it is my passion.
- 20:53I love it. I always I say like, if only I
- 20:57like I didn't have to work. I would love to do my projects
- 21:00all day, all day. Hatsala, the 100 ride, Perry
- 21:05Hill, all these other the what I was talking about before with
- 21:08the weightlifting. There's so much that I've
- 21:10started involved with. No, no, I wish I could do it all
- 21:12day this. Happens once, so his phone.
- 21:14Even though I turned the drunk, Yeah.
- 21:16So never. Happened, by the way, for the.
- 21:18Record, we edit it out. We need to happen every, it
- 21:21happens every podcast. So it's so inappropriate.
- 21:24I think it's so inappropriate. You want to take it.
- 21:26He's literally talking about like so many test organizations.
- 21:29You're right. He's about to like lay it on
- 21:30thick and your phone rings. Hold on a second.
- 21:32My sheet, we went through that segment already.
- 21:33We're good. Thank you.
- 21:37No, so I think I just grew up with it and I love it and
- 21:41actually married my wife who's huge at it as well.
- 21:44She runs a fantastic with her friend.
- 21:47She runs a fantastic organization called Mindy's
- 21:49place and if you've ever heard of it, Mindy's, Mindy's Place,
- 21:52what is it? It's in my basement.
- 21:55It's a fantastic ladies second hand clothing store, which is a,
- 21:59a client has to, let's say be referred by their of or by an
- 22:03organization and then they get vetted out and, and then they
- 22:07come to the store. It's downstairs in our house,
- 22:09but it's a beautiful boutique store.
- 22:12It's and the clothing that they take there is only like top line
- 22:16secondhand clothing. And the people who come there
- 22:20purchase the items. They don't get it for free.
- 22:21They purchase it for $3.00 an item.
- 22:24And I'd say in the past 10-11 years, they've, they've given
- 22:29out and distributed over 10,000 for sure pieces of clothing for
- 22:33sure much more than that. And it's in memory of Mindy
- 22:35Cohn, who is my wife's great for a very, very close friend who
- 22:38was NIF Terrace around that time 1011 years ago.
- 22:41And this is a beautiful for her. So my wife does that.
- 22:45That's beautiful. It's just, it's, I don't know.
- 22:46We love it. We love it.
- 22:47It's the best thing in the world, you know?
- 22:50You know you really like you're start.
- 22:52You're crushing me. Undersold him.
- 22:54You're saying you're? Crushing me.
- 22:55You need to stop there. You you bring people on the
- 22:58podcast. This is like our 46th episode
- 23:01and we've met so many people and like you hear their stories and
- 23:04how they're talking. And I don't know you that well.
- 23:07And I'm just getting to know you a little bit and I'm hearing
- 23:09about your passion projects and I want to get into all of them.
- 23:12I want to learn what exactly what is that they do.
- 23:14But like this is what you're busy with.
- 23:15Like this is after this podcast, I'm gonna go back to my desk and
- 23:20then I'm gonna go back to my life, which is not what you're
- 23:23doing. But I you're making me feel bad
- 23:25about myself. I really am.
- 23:27I I'm serious and I say this all time.
- 23:28It's true, Michael. I say in the podcast all the
- 23:30time is that you there are so many incredible people in this
- 23:33world and in our community that are living next.
- 23:36So they're walking amongst us. They're just busy about other
- 23:38people. I gave a 10,000 dresses.
- 23:40I set up this program so people can't afford it and can still
- 23:43feel good about themselves. He's thinking about other
- 23:45people, his wife's thinking about other people.
- 23:47And it's just like, it's amazing.
- 23:48I feel honoured and inspired that I'm a part of this
- 23:51community. So one thing that I'm even that
- 23:53I'm, I can call myself a Jew and that there are like, I really am
- 23:58your honour just for letting me be a part of it.
- 24:00Grabbing onto. People, that was a compliment.
- 24:02I appreciate it. I wasn't sure where you were
- 24:03going with this. Was it a compliment for me like?
- 24:05Not for you. Oh.
- 24:06No, because I bring in guests that do good.
- 24:08Things for the guests there. And it's a compliment to us.
- 24:10Oh, OK. The the, the the the Jew is the
- 24:12glory. For the community.
- 24:13Of the Jews, yeah. Is just an amazing podcast for
- 24:16bringing it all out. Yeah.
- 24:16So we know that me come through all this.
- 24:19Crap, but I was I walk away sometimes feeling like what you
- 24:21know you were number. I need to do better.
- 24:24You were number one at the bowling league for the camp.
- 24:26Fund, right? That's my credentials.
- 24:27No, that's that was my credentials.
- 24:29You heard that. That's good that I won a bowling
- 24:30tournament a couple of times in a row and I'm proud of it and I
- 24:33have the trophy in my office to come prove it to you.
- 24:35But like, that's my claim to fame.
- 24:37Yeah, well, you know what, I think you have like 15 years on
- 24:39him, so you got a couple of years.
- 24:41To that's what I'm saying, tomorrow's another day.
- 24:42Good, good I can do. It by little little.
- 24:44But I digress. I digress.
- 24:45No, you're not the guy. One thing he said is so true.
- 24:47Like you don't realize who's involved in what.
- 24:51Like unbelievable. When you start speaking to
- 24:53people, there's so much of this that goes on.
- 24:55There's so many people, let's call them regular people who are
- 24:58doing huge things, huge things. There's a guy I know in my shoe
- 25:03like I I might, one of the passions is to give out to Phil
- 25:06and it's called Perry Hill. It's my name in front of and
- 25:09name, memory of my father. And he was very into Civitar
- 25:12Mazuza. I, I love getting filling,
- 25:15giving them out to people that need filling.
- 25:17There's a guy in my shoe nobody knows.
- 25:19He gave out over 400 pairs of filling on his own.
- 25:23And I only found out 'cause I had a question which came back
- 25:25to him. This guy's doing huge things.
- 25:27You don't know and. And they're rampant.
- 25:29They're all over the place. Like I was telling him I we live
- 25:32next to each other. I don't really know him.
- 25:33I don't think I've ever seen him before.
- 25:35And I'm just hearing about these incredible.
- 25:37I've seen the 100, right? I have seen that.
- 25:38Good. I'm glad that you've seen that.
- 25:39Obnoxious, by the way. Good.
- 25:42Obsessively, I've seen that it. Couldn't be enough.
- 25:44They've ruined my day once, no. Let's back up for a second.
- 25:47We're. Going to get there in a minute,
- 25:47but I'm just saying like I've seen and, and here he is.
- 25:50He's right. Like these are unknowns.
- 25:52These are not people that are touting everything that they're
- 25:53doing. They're not advertising it.
- 25:55But any Jewish community matter where in the world you are, no
- 25:58matter where in the world you are, there's going to be half,
- 26:00half the people that are giving, half the people that are taking.
- 26:03But it's, it's a, it's a mathematical equation that
- 26:06works. And that's what makes our, our
- 26:07nation so great. And I think secretly that's what
- 26:09people are jealous of us. They don't hate us.
- 26:10They're jealous, they hate us how jealous they are of us.
- 26:13I think that's what it comes down to because no one is left
- 26:15behind in the Jewish community what no one's left behind.
- 26:18Why? Do we do it because?
- 26:19Why do you do the? No.
- 26:20Why do we all do this? Yeah, yeah.
- 26:22We're very, we're part of a very small club.
- 26:24We have to stick together. We love each other.
- 26:27Everyone loves each other at the end of the day, you know?
- 26:30Stefan, sometimes we don't. Yeah, well, the.
- 26:33I see mighty dish up there. I the I wanted to hear a song.
- 26:37It's one of the secret sauces, I think also in general of being
- 26:39happy is giving. And it's, you know, something
- 26:42that just like, right when you're part of that in a world
- 26:45just we're happier people. In general, but we say it in
- 26:47Nishmas every day, that Shem created the world with Hasid, so
- 26:51that's why we thrive on it. Yeah.
- 26:53The more you tap into it, I think you're tapping into
- 26:55creation. So I have to tell you where you
- 26:56know when I'm driving on the road, whether it's in Muncie or,
- 27:01you know, anywhere else, not so much in Brooklyn, but and
- 27:04sometimes you ever space out while you're driving a little
- 27:06bit all the time, you know you. No, seriously, sometimes I
- 27:08wonder how did I get here? OK, I don't remember the path.
- 27:11Right. Also, especially when you're
- 27:13you. Never had that before.
- 27:13That's. My wife, she says.
- 27:14That's all I do. Right.
- 27:15So we've all been there. Especially when you're following
- 27:17ways or whatever. Yeah, it happens.
- 27:19So, you know, on the side of the road, you have those little
- 27:21bumps that wake you up sometimes, you know, like, oh,
- 27:23thank God, those those are there.
- 27:24Right. I have to tell you, those little
- 27:26bumps have saved my life probably 10 times already.
- 27:28Yeah. That's why they're there.
- 27:29Yeah, yeah, absolutely. But you know what else is there
- 27:31on the side of the road? Bikers.
- 27:33I can't tell you how much they frustrate me and I, and it's not
- 27:36because I'm not a biker. And I know everyone's going to
- 27:38think that and I just have to tell you, it's so dangerous what
- 27:41you guys are doing and it's just, it bothers me and I just I
- 27:44want to bring it out because of course the husted part that
- 27:47you're doing from it we can talk about in a minute, but what
- 27:49about the dangers of? It and also I will add to that
- 27:52before you answer, they feel very and all of it.
- 27:54They feel very entitled as well. The bikers like they get upset
- 27:58if you as a car give me the road.
- 27:59You didn't go further around him and far enough and like they
- 28:02feel like I'm here just as much of A right as you.
- 28:05No, no, you're not. I'm driving a vehicle, an actual
- 28:08motor vehicle. I'm driving, you're riding a
- 28:09bike, you you should be at the sidewalk somewhere and the
- 28:12somewhere like they also feel very entitled, like they get
- 28:14upset at you if you don't respect them and their space on
- 28:18the. Road It's bad enough that the
- 28:19larger riders are wearing these spandex suits that are.
- 28:22So difficult to look at. Which, you know, that's that's a
- 28:24whole. You said there's other
- 28:26challenges. Please tell me what?
- 28:27Else no, it's it's actually worse than you say, you know
- 28:31what about the roads are wet? So you're told me just like
- 28:34you're on the side of a busy Rd., but then you've got wet
- 28:36roads and you've got potholes. Then you've got the our tires.
- 28:39We're not talking about mountain bikes here.
- 28:40We're talking about Rd. bikes. I'm not up to the feeling bad
- 28:43for the bikers themselves. It's even more dangerous.
- 28:45No, of course, now I know the how do you deal with the danger?
- 28:47So I'm saying I'm, I'm curious about the laws, you know, you're
- 28:49a. Lawyer.
- 28:50Yeah, there is law there. Are what is the law?
- 28:51I mean, if I'm going on a windy road and there's no room for a
- 28:54biker and I have to move to the other side of the lane,
- 28:56literally to oncoming traffic to protect this biker.
- 28:59Like if I've gone away a go Kart on the street, I'm sure a cop
- 29:02will pull me over. And let me tell you so.
- 29:04Unless like a bike they allow to like what's the what's the?
- 29:06What's the word? Unless it's a highway, or unless
- 29:10it's a highway like Palisades Pkwy Thruway, bikers are allowed
- 29:14to be on any on any public Rd. So However, you're not allowed
- 29:18to be two bikers wide. So when you see guys like
- 29:21schmoozing each other on a Sunday ride in front of
- 29:24Wellesley Kosher on Route 3 O 6, they're not supposed to be two
- 29:27bikers wide. And I've often been on rides
- 29:29where cops pull us over and give you tickets for being two people
- 29:31wide. You can only be 1.
- 29:33You might have seen these pelotons of bikers.
- 29:35They're all one person wide, so they are allowed to be on the
- 29:39road. You are.
- 29:40You do have to make room for them because they could be
- 29:42legally be there, but they're not allowed to be two people.
- 29:44Beyond the white line. They have to be Yeah, I don't
- 29:47know. They can't be on the actual.
- 29:48You sure they can't? They can't.
- 29:49They can't. They could be in middle your.
- 29:51Side of the. White So I have to drive behind
- 29:53him and go at his. Feet.
- 29:54Well, you have to just watch out for him, really.
- 29:57But you're not gonna. Legally, they can do that.
- 29:58But not on highways. Or I understand I forget about
- 30:01highways which. Sometimes happens and I've had
- 30:02it on the 100 ride. Hey babe.
- 30:04One time when a guy ended up in the Palisades.
- 30:06And what happened? We lost him, we lost him.
- 30:10What did he ended up? We were in.
- 30:11Harriman Park, and we're looking for this guy.
- 30:13He was a Brooklyn rider actually.
- 30:15And where is he? Thank God we got a phone call
- 30:19from him. He's at like exit 13 on because,
- 30:21you know, at the bottom of of Harriman Park.
- 30:23Is that entrance on? Yes.
- 30:24You automatically end up he. Was on the palisade.
- 30:26OK, it makes sense now. Thank God he stops there.
- 30:29You can't be. Right, but it is.
- 30:32No. Though as far as the law is
- 30:34concerned. Did he not realize that he's the
- 30:35only person, like, on the road, like, you didn't notice?
- 30:38No. Because it is a sense of
- 30:39entitlement. Yeah, exactly.
- 30:41And some guys love being by themselves.
- 30:42Like wait, I'm ahead of everyone.
- 30:44I don't know. So the dangers are definitely
- 30:46there, yeah. They're worse than your neighbor
- 30:48by the. Way, which happens to be your
- 30:50rabbi, right Center. He had an accident too.
- 30:52He did right so so my other neighbor did as well.
- 30:55Right. And these these can get.
- 30:56Two neighbors and he, she, she had a worse one than he did.
- 31:00She was riding in Hammond Park. That's more dangerous riding a
- 31:02motorcycle or a bicycle. Gotta be a bike I would have.
- 31:06To say bicycles, motorcycle. Motorcycle, the speeds are
- 31:09because of the speeds. Right, right.
- 31:11Yeah, but they're both pretty dangerous.
- 31:13But but this, this, this neighbor of mine on the other
- 31:16side of every center, she hit a deer going down in Hammond Park.
- 31:20With her bike A. Deer.
- 31:21Not a squirrel, a deer. Wow.
- 31:23And she got hurt and there are accidents and you have to be
- 31:26very, very careful. And that's why I represent her,
- 31:28who's a big part of our ride. The whole Huff Cay is very much
- 31:31into promoting helmets, even for little kids riding little bikes.
- 31:34It's their thing. Helmets is their thing.
- 31:36OK. Yeah.
- 31:36All right. So that's a nice.
- 31:37So there are precautions that we take, but we pray to God and you
- 31:41know, I was going to tell you this hundred ride has nice them
- 31:43all the time, and that's our biggest nace, Billy Einhart.
- 31:47What is this 100 ride for What? What is the cause about?
- 31:50How did this come about? Why did you start?
- 31:52So you meant Rabbi Center. It really started with Rabbi
- 31:54Center. You've heard of bike for Kai.
- 31:56So when you know, when guys sort of fall out of the age of the
- 32:01softball every Sunday and you, you sort of mature into the age
- 32:06of bikes, It's the way it is like when guys start to turn 30
- 32:09ish, that's the right time for bikes because you're no longer
- 32:11running to 1st so fast. But on a bike, you can still get
- 32:14great exercise and not too dangerous other than being hit
- 32:17by a car, you're not going to pull anything.
- 32:19So that's we all started getting into biking in our in our
- 32:22neighborhood and was the hills and we had like 10 guys doing,
- 32:25let's say bike for high and you have to raise a lot of money for
- 32:28bike for high. So Ravi center was like saying
- 32:31to me was on a Shabbos. It must have been in May 11
- 32:35years ago. He said, Ori, it's beautiful you
- 32:37guys are doing, but you know, we have an IAM in Muncie.
- 32:42He says it like almost hurts me that we're sending between just
- 32:45our shul, hundreds of thousands of dollars out of our community
- 32:49for a great cause. But we have our own an IAM that
- 32:52we're dealing with here. I want you to make a ride.
- 32:54He didn't know anything about it.
- 32:55So I want you to make a bike ride 100% for our community.
- 32:58Beautiful. Love that.
- 33:00For Rockland, for. Love you Ruby Center.
- 33:01That was Ruby Center's idea, and we were ready in May.
- 33:04I was like, Oh my gosh, I don't have that much time.
- 33:06But six weeks later we had our first ride, and that was 2014.
- 33:11How many people were on the 1st? Ride, first ride had I think
- 33:133939 riders, but we already had jerseys and we had SAG support
- 33:18and we had some police escorts and we started in Yeshiva Spring
- 33:22Valley. I think we ended in Yeshiva
- 33:23Spring Valley. We had a nice loop and we called
- 33:26it the Hundred Ride because not that it was 100 miles or 100
- 33:30kilometers, which it's not. It's a choice of 3050 or 80
- 33:33miles you can choose. It's called the 100 ride because
- 33:35100% of the money we raised, 100% of the money that the
- 33:38rioters raised goes to the Sedakis.
- 33:41No overhead local, no salaries to Sedakis.
- 33:44We collect every penny we make goes to Kupas Ezra 50%, Tom
- 33:48Prashavas 50%. That's it between between Koopa
- 33:52says and Tom for Chavez, you've got Muncie come.
- 33:54Shout out to Robbie Rosenstock and Robbie Mashinsky.
- 33:57Absolutely run these organizations.
- 33:58Phenomenal, beautiful idea. So everything we do is for them.
- 34:02Everything we do is. For them, how much do you raise?
- 34:04So our first year we didn't raise much.
- 34:07We started like 80,000 then it went to 100,000 and last year
- 34:12was ready over half $1,000,000 a year.
- 34:14Wow, that's a lot. By the way, how many?
- 34:15Riders How many? About 11 years.
- 34:17We're so proud. That's like, how's the Hashem?
- 34:20We get millions of dollars. Half. $1,000,000 How many
- 34:22people? How many riders?
- 34:23We typically have between 100 and 130 riders.
- 34:26This year. Investments.
- 34:27Hashem will have more, I hope, for some of the new things that
- 34:31we have. What's the barrier of entry?
- 34:33Mail, mail, I see, although there's a big push for a ladies,
- 34:39right? OK, big push for.
- 34:41Understanding why not? Why not?
- 34:42Why shouldn't? So I looked into it for this
- 34:44year. Honestly, in all honesty,
- 34:46there's just not enough from lady riders in Muncie.
- 34:50How do you know? Let's.
- 34:51Prove them wrong guys. My wife.
- 34:52Is put the word out there maybe? She knows the.
- 34:54I want to say the main reason is because unfortunately, the
- 34:57reality is that the men raise more funds.
- 34:59All right, Think about all these organizations.
- 35:00How many events have done for women versus men?
- 35:02You know they started now, Muncie.
- 35:04Well, recently. What we are doing is we're we're
- 35:06making a kids right. We're extending the 100 ride to
- 35:09a kids ride as well, which is going to the kids raise the best
- 35:13money. That's a nice yes.
- 35:13That's and there's so many Kalayahara in there and we're
- 35:16going to do a smaller. Ride I can't wait to get a phone
- 35:17call from your kid and you know. Boys and girls.
- 35:20Another yeshiva, another ride. Why not kids, boys and girls?
- 35:23I was just saying, why not in months?
- 35:24We started recently. I know Stefan, you know about
- 35:26this. You're a fan of it.
- 35:27I'm a fan of it. I think it's great.
- 35:29I think in a lot of ways it's a little bit lame also, but
- 35:32there's certainly something about it where they're doing
- 35:34sports, organized sports for girls, they're making football
- 35:38leagues. Our neighbors.
- 35:39They're making basketball leagues for girls like it's
- 35:41always been geared and oriented around the boys, making sure the
- 35:44boys have a. We have a Football League in our
- 35:46neighborhood. Yeah, my daughter is on it,
- 35:47Yeah. She loved it.
- 35:49We gotta be more inclusive that way, you know?
- 35:51Definitely. So, yeah, so that's the hundred,
- 35:54right. And this year's our 11th year,
- 35:56last year was our tenth. It was a big year for us and
- 35:58this year will be emeritus and bigger.
- 36:00And you run this, this organization?
- 36:02So Rabbi Center gave us the idea and I, I, I ran with it with my
- 36:07wife Tippy and Maishi Goldblatt. We, we have a very small core of
- 36:12people that we have a lot of help.
- 36:14Everyone's volunteer, nobody's salary, nobody takes a a dollar
- 36:17between Maishi Goldblatt, myself, my daughter-in-law and
- 36:20Nikki Kirchner, center and Sippy that we're basically the core of
- 36:25it. Then we have volunteers which
- 36:27help us. This year we really wanted to
- 36:30expand and get into so many communities in Rockland that
- 36:33I've never touched. You know, with the growth now of
- 36:35of Fields and Havestor and Airmont, there's so many places
- 36:39we've never been there that's. A.
- 36:41Great idea. So I called Morty Becker and I
- 36:43had Levy Osinski and they are. Smart.
- 36:45Very smart. They're.
- 36:46Helping us out there June 29th. OK.
- 36:49Just once a year. Once a year, one day a year,
- 36:51and. If you we live in Rockland,
- 36:52it's. Always this Sunday.
- 36:54So I got to be out of we have June 29th.
- 36:57Yeah, don't go near this year. We're starting in.
- 36:59Is it a Sunday? It's a Sunday.
- 37:01The one day that I have to literally be in local roads,
- 37:03console back and forth, all of us are going about, you know,
- 37:06carpooling and this and we're gonna have to deal with the do
- 37:09you worry of riders. Up with or anything.
- 37:11Like that it's it's www.thehundredride.org.
- 37:15It's the number 101 00the100right.org.
- 37:19OK, cool. Yeah, well, I'm sure Stefan will
- 37:21include. So that's the hundred, right?
- 37:23It was Representer's brainchild. Beautiful.
- 37:25Very, very nice. Is there like a winner?
- 38:03Like who comes in first? Was the you have that.
- 38:05No, no. But it's it's usually the same
- 38:08person who comes last every year.
- 38:10I have to say, of course it is. If you had winners, maybe she
- 38:13was. He's walking his bike towards
- 38:14the end. No, he.
- 38:15He's an incredible person. I'll give him a shout out
- 38:18because he loves it, isn't it? He's calls himself the Bris
- 38:20Rabbi. His name is Ravi Sepolitz.
- 38:22He's at Sadik. He raises money in Fountain View
- 38:25and all these places for the 100 ride constantly.
- 38:27He's at Sadik. He's also a mole and he's very,
- 38:30very passionate about the 100 ride and he's always on all of
- 38:34our jerseys. You'll see the Bris rabbit.
- 38:35I was hoping he's bris rabbit because he's a mole enough,
- 38:37yeah. So he does not give up, even if
- 38:40it's 1000°. He will finish the ride without
- 38:43being supported and he usually comes in.
- 38:45You've done bike for high though, right?
- 38:47Yeah, many still do it. I, I, no, I did bike for high
- 38:50many years and I still do TNR, which is another ride.
- 38:53We do a lot of rides. Beautiful.
- 38:55You're you're a big biker, you're biking a lot.
- 38:57How how many miles is bike for high?
- 39:00So bike ride is 2 days. OK, so that.
- 39:03Right. Yeah, the first day is like 75.
- 39:05It's like 175. And they have like 700 riders or
- 39:09something, right? So you're pretty good, by the
- 39:10way, for a local community bike gang.
- 39:13And I think the potential is so much bigger.
- 39:15I think all these communities which we haven't gotten to yet,
- 39:17it could be very big. And everyone has.
- 39:21Stopped and then the kids ride is going to be huge too yeah
- 39:23yeah I. Like that actually about the
- 39:25kids ride. It exists in Lakewood, They've
- 39:28done one in Lakewood, which is really nice.
- 39:30So we're gonna try that this year in Mr. Shem.
- 39:33Nice. Wow.
- 39:35Yeah, so I. Have to tell you that growing up
- 39:37in Brooklyn, biking was everything to me, right?
- 39:39So we lived on a bike. We rode from one town.
- 39:42Did you grow up on a bike? Michael, I have like 2 more
- 39:45minutes left enemy to talk about bikes.
- 39:47And then I'm just curious. And then I'm, I'm maxing out.
- 39:50I'm just saying. Like I could cut it out now.
- 39:52I was just curious about you riding a bike as a kid, no?
- 39:54Yeah, I rode a bike as a kid. Yeah, but you know.
- 39:56Rode bikes? That's not your mode of
- 39:57transportation. But as adults riding bikes, you
- 40:00know, I don't, I don't play with Legos anymore, you know, and I
- 40:03get it. But you do it recreationally for
- 40:05exercise or you're doing it for a cause.
- 40:07Never mind, go ahead. But what I was talking about at
- 40:09the beginning, when I was saying obnoxiously and incessant, I was
- 40:12talking with the people. That does their whole life is
- 40:15bikes like bike, bike, bike, bike.
- 40:17It's coming out of my ears or nose, right?
- 40:18It's just that's too much, correct?
- 40:20It's too much. There's a lot of any.
- 40:21Too much of anything is is annoying.
- 40:23I think, actually I think that works that way in anything when
- 40:25it comes to health for some reason, you know, like when
- 40:27someone's, you know, the old. Thing no, but it's a fake
- 40:29exercise it's not even real exercise you're not really
- 40:32getting the blood, you know, flowing and.
- 40:34What are you saying it's a? Real.
- 40:36You're not lifting weights, you're not doing real cardio.
- 40:39It's the easiest cardio to do is to is to ride a bike.
- 40:41Yeah, try going up a hill in Rockland County, see what
- 40:44happens. Yeah, we got some material
- 40:45sales. Very, very difficult, Very
- 40:46challenging. I don't know but you.
- 40:48You know, I must have traumatized a little bit because
- 40:49I was growing up. I.
- 40:50Oh, now we. Want to talk about I didn't have
- 40:52a bike? There we go.
- 40:54No wonder why you changed the. I'll be honest, I'll be I'll
- 40:56tell you a story. Actually, we're going to get you
- 40:57a. Bike I might make you.
- 40:58Quite a little bit I was making. I was, I was about, I don't
- 41:02know, 11 years old, something I was before bar mitzvah for sure.
- 41:04So 1112 some that range. And I didn't go to summer camp.
- 41:08I didn't go to summer camp. My parents couldn't afford to
- 41:10send me, so I used to just stay at home and keep myself busy and
- 41:14find things to do. My neighbor who just got a bike,
- 41:17a brand new bike, and he was going to sleep away camp.
- 41:21So I thought, oh, you're a sleep away camp, like I'm going to be
- 41:23home, any chance I can use your bike while you're going away?
- 41:27He said. Schwartz said don't just ask my
- 41:29father, you know. Anyway, he said, OK, come pick
- 41:32up the bike. So this is the day he's leaving
- 41:35the camp. I, I'm, he lives on my block.
- 41:39I'm walking to his house. I'm all excited.
- 41:41I'm going to get a bike. And it was a driveway up.
- 41:44It was an uphill driveway. And I remember walking up the
- 41:47driveway and I, I go into his garage and I take the bike out
- 41:50and I'm starting to walk it down.
- 41:51And my friend's father walks out of the house and he sees me
- 41:55taking his bike and he tells his son, his sons, I don't want to
- 41:58say something and the people might know who it is.
- 41:59He tells me, what's your friend doing?
- 42:02What's what she doing? So I'm giving him my bike for
- 42:04the for the summer and if he breaks it, who's going to pay
- 42:08for it? Do me a favor, put the bike back
- 42:11in the in the garage. Is what he's scarred.
- 42:13And I had to, I had to pick the car, the the bike back into the
- 42:16garage. And I walked home dejected.
- 42:19I was bawling. I was crying.
- 42:21And you know what? My father bought me a bike that
- 42:24summer. I don't know where he got the
- 42:25money. I don't know how he did it, but
- 42:27he saw what, you know, what it meant to me.
- 42:29And he felt very sorry for me. He felt very.
- 42:31So he probably stole the money, but that's OK.
- 42:33He did. He did what any good father
- 42:35would do. He went out and he made it
- 42:37happen. He made it happen.
- 42:38But that's by the way, I'm not really so scarred from this.
- 42:40That's why I hate bikes for many other reasons.
- 42:43I'll tell you that's one of them.
- 42:44I'll tell you that it's not about the bike and I could get
- 42:47you being bored by the bikes. Some guys speak about biking
- 42:49like any other sport, incestly. It's about the that's Sedaka and
- 42:55about the what it is. I'm telling you that this ride
- 42:58has Nissan. I've personally experienced
- 43:00Nissan with this every year. It's a tremendous amount of work
- 43:03and it's it's it's back breaking and I never have the time for
- 43:08it. But every year you experience
- 43:10Nissan with this ride. And I mean for example.
- 43:14We see it, first of all, almost every year.
- 43:17It's supposed to be terrible rain on the day of the ride, and
- 43:20it's not something you want rain for the day of the ride.
- 43:22First of all, it's dangerous. No one comes to the BBQ which
- 43:24is. That's your nemesis, the rain.
- 43:25Exactly. And if it rains, I'm not doing,
- 43:28I don't want to do a rain day. It's just it's bad.
- 43:31Almost every year we get rain and in 11 years, only once has
- 43:36it rained that we couldn't do the ride.
- 43:38And this, this rabbi supplements.
- 43:40It was like our first and second year, like the second he crossed
- 43:43the finish line, it started to pour.
- 43:44It was like, and it was like, Oh my gosh, Hashem loves the 100
- 43:47ride. And then one year, so every year
- 43:51was supposed to we never get the rain.
- 43:52But one year, maybe 2-3 years ago, we was predicted to have a
- 43:58hurricane on the day of the ride like a serious monsoon
- 44:02hurricane. So the night before we're
- 44:05sitting there huddling together. Yosef Zup makes a big part of
- 44:08the right. He does He runs all the medical
- 44:09for us. He's fantastic of his center.
- 44:11We're all sitting there. We even had meteorologists on
- 44:14the phone with us from bike bike for high referred me to but the
- 44:19night before the riot and determining it's going to be
- 44:21bad. So I Vicente said the psychosis
- 44:24we're cancelling the right. It's never happened.
- 44:26You're cancelling postponed. We postponed it till the end of
- 44:29August. We made double the money that
- 44:33year. Double we.
- 44:34Had more time. Because we had another month to
- 44:36do it, we made two more parties, a lot more people started
- 44:39finding out about it, and the tadaka doubled that year.
- 44:43So Hashem loves the 100 ride. Hashem loves you.
- 44:47He loves you and everything that you're doing, what you stand
- 44:49for. And obviously He's assisting you
- 44:52and He's, you know, he's being an accomplice to everything that
- 44:55you're accomplishing, you see, but he loves you.
- 44:57It's about other organizations. So you do 100 ride.
- 45:00What else do you do? I'm on the board of Atzala, but
- 45:02Atzala doesn't need any. Yeah.
- 45:04What does that board? Don't know about solid do
- 45:05exactly. We'll know what Atzala does.
- 45:07Who runs that solid out? Here so has she Wuensweig is on
- 45:11runs it now you 2 on the months yet so yeah since I since I
- 45:14joined Rockland solid also split.
- 45:16Are you a solar member? No.
- 45:17No. How many atzalas?
- 45:19Are those guys are awesome? I can't do that.
- 45:20I just not in crazy. Every school has 2-3 members in
- 45:23Muncie. Yeah, every school's got those
- 45:25two. Those are special and.
- 45:26They're very special people. I think my wife could be 1, but
- 45:29I'm not and cobot Washington Heights.
- 45:30You know, we had lady, had solid members.
- 45:32Really, we had ladies in that solid well before there was even
- 45:35thought of. Shout out to my mother.
- 45:36Was she? Yep.
- 45:37Your mother was a solid member. Her and Ruthie Katzenstein and a
- 45:40couple. Of other women here, we had lady
- 45:43because all the Yakish guys are always working.
- 45:46You know, there was no Yakish guys sitting at home or in
- 45:48yeshiva. So we had no one in Washington
- 45:50Heights for calls. So we had ladies on calls.
- 45:53Say that again, the men didn't want to go to Kohl's because
- 45:55they were too big. They weren't there.
- 45:56They were out of work. They were in the city, local.
- 45:58No one was in Washington Heights.
- 46:00They were all working. I thought you were saying like
- 46:01they're, they're so rigid. The Yankees, even when I saw the
- 46:04call was gone. We're giving.
- 46:05I have a schedule I have to follow.
- 46:06Not rigid that we had ladies. Fit that in from 4:30 to 4:45,
- 46:10I'll take the call. It's.
- 46:11A great point, Dory, by the way. But because they're that they're
- 46:13not rigid that they had. Yeah, Meaning there are, I think
- 46:15there are Ozala's somewhere around the world that are just
- 46:18women. Now.
- 46:19Well, they started it right. They have it now.
- 46:21Wasn't a lot of politics in Brooklyn about this?
- 46:22There's a lot of politics about Ozala, every There's a lot.
- 46:26We're going to soon get the CEO of Ozala in our program.
- 46:28Does that take up a lot of your time being a board member of
- 46:30Ozala? No, no.
- 46:32Do you know you feel Kalish? No with.
- 46:34Them. Isn't he the CEO of Hatzalah?
- 46:36He is, but it's Hatzalah is in segments, so if he's on the
- 46:39board of just Rockland County, he would not know of the.
- 46:41It's crazy to me that it's still not all under one umbrella,
- 46:45right? And like it's not all branches
- 46:47under 1 corporate entity. It's crazy that's all
- 46:49independent and all operates individually.
- 46:52It almost doesn't make sense to me.
- 46:53I think those are all so huge I don't know they.
- 46:55There is an app that came out recently that allows you to call
- 46:59into Hatzalah anywhere you are in the world and it's cool.
- 47:03Those might be because so much of what Atsala does in each
- 47:06community is controlled, not controlled under the auspices of
- 47:10the rebuttum. And I think how do you have
- 47:13universal rebuttum, right? You have rebuttum who are master
- 47:17on that hatsal and this that's all.
- 47:18And we work within our hatsal, our our rabbinical board, and I
- 47:23think all of them you. Can't have universal.
- 47:25That one of my people. Like to support Israel or not
- 47:26I'm. Saying I understand, but there's
- 47:28also drawback to it. They're missing out on a lot of
- 47:30that volume that they can leverage all together.
- 47:32A shout out to Ellie Roe. Ellie's incredible with that's
- 47:35all the air. What they do is I I spoke we had
- 47:37some things over Pesach. He was amazing.
- 47:39What? He's an amazing guy.
- 47:40There was some people that needed help on Pesach and I
- 47:44called him out of just just desperation.
- 47:46He was incredible. He was offering.
- 47:48He got sprinters and yeah, he's like, I didn't think sourceful.
- 47:53I didn't think I was gonna reach him.
- 47:54Like, why would I even reach him?
- 47:55Yeah. And picked up the phone.
- 47:56He's. Accessible.
- 47:57He helped us. Yeah, he's also another.
- 47:59Wonderful person. If people are crazy, they do
- 48:01beautiful. Fasted and also like such
- 48:03outrageous, outlandish things that we do for others, like
- 48:07thinking about what he's doing. He's flying people on private
- 48:10jets for medical reasons, like on a whims notice.
- 48:13He's got helicopters, he's got Humvees, He's got like all kinds
- 48:17of gadgets and equipment, expensive stuff.
- 48:19Expensive, expensive. And the fact that somebody even
- 48:21thought about it to say I want to do this.
- 48:23Were you involved? Were you in a in a cemetery here
- 48:25in Muncie? Oh gosh, where'd you get that
- 48:27from? Is that a?
- 48:27Thing, I think a little birdie told.
- 48:29Me, I was there was a there's the what's it called?
- 48:32A harsh Shalom. What a new cemetery.
- 48:36We're trying to find out all the little things that you're
- 48:38involved in. That's comes from my legal work.
- 48:41I represented the buyers of that cemetery, the land, which for me
- 48:45was the first talk about, like doing things that you don't know
- 48:47anything about and yeah, getting it wrong so that I'd.
- 48:50I had never represented people buying a cemetery before.
- 48:53I learned a lot of new things about cemetery.
- 48:54I actually just met a guy in the Rockland County that's his Him
- 48:57and his family all owned cemeteries.
- 48:59It's an immediate get him on the program.
- 49:00Fascinating. I imagine there's not great
- 49:02tenants. So I imagine it's, I think it's
- 49:05a great. Business.
- 49:06It's a dying business, yeah. I wish I had like a butt of
- 49:10chicken. But yeah, I had to learn on the
- 49:13fly on that one how to how to buy, buy.
- 49:17It wasn't a cemetery yet. They it was just a big land
- 49:20purchase. They wanted to use the cemetery.
- 49:22So you. They knew in advance they're
- 49:23buying the property to turn into a correct right.
- 49:25So how do you, how do you can you do that anywhere?
- 49:27Like can you just get land anywhere?
- 49:29And just turn it into a cemetery.
- 49:30You would think so. I imagine not.
- 49:31You can't, right? New York zone in New York.
- 49:34There's two laws in New York which I found out about 1 is it
- 49:36has to be minimum of 10 acres and the second is it needs to be
- 49:40attached to an existing cemetery already.
- 49:43You can't just like take over Palisades Mall.
- 49:46Well, you probably could take Palisades Mall because there's a
- 49:48little cemetery there, but you can't just take any huge 10 acre
- 49:51thing and turn it into a cemetery.
- 49:53It has to be. Add to another.
- 49:54Resistance every. So they found this this the some
- 49:57Christian cemetery behind it and unfortunately.
- 50:00I feel like eventually you run out of options eventually.
- 50:03So that's why they did this but. You're going to have to start
- 50:05something like how many attachments to a.
- 50:08Cemetery sheet are there because I need to draw up I need to draw
- 50:10up contracts and stuff for this and I'm like trying to find
- 50:13attorneys who've worked in this how many people have done
- 50:15cemeteries there's there's not that many cemeteries new
- 50:17cemeteries that come up in New York.
- 50:20So I did a lot of research trying to find the proper
- 50:22documents and. Is it a lucrative business like
- 50:25IS you? Think about it.
- 50:27I imagine it's a little supply and high demand.
- 50:29Not just that, but think about the little amount of space that
- 50:32people are paying such a big amount of money for.
- 50:34And I found out which I found that through unfortunate
- 50:37circumstances. There's different prices for
- 50:40different people and for how fast you need it.
- 50:43Like God forbid if something happens tragically, you know,
- 50:46one minute to the next and you need something.
- 50:48There was no plan. They didn't know that this
- 50:50individual was going to die and they want a good spot or they
- 50:53want they charge you more money because.
- 50:55Emergency rate, yes, I never heard of.
- 50:57That yes, yes, I'm sorry to say it, but it's very political
- 51:01also. We'll find out.
- 51:01I'm going to bring that guy. There's a lot of politics
- 51:03involved also if you want to get buried in a certain like.
- 51:06Area. Especially if you want to get
- 51:08buried in a certain type of. You're allowed to.
- 51:10It's crazy. And these people, like they take
- 51:13the trading price based on how much they think they can get
- 51:14from you. It's almost like a used car
- 51:16salesman. They're judging on the spot how
- 51:18much they think they can get. Wow, yeah, I never saw.
- 51:20That and it's and it's. It's not like uncommon practice.
- 51:23Supposedly, that this is I'm. Gonna get someone.
- 51:25In this is the world of how it works in cemeteries.
- 51:28I can answer those questions. Now if you prepaid, if you
- 51:30prepaid. For it I could refer someone
- 51:31that. Owns cemeteries.
- 51:33Yeah, yeah, yeah. Someone in the community in
- 51:34Rockland? I actually, it's not even the
- 51:36first now that I'm thinking about it.
- 51:37I also represented someone who bought a cemetery narrity strol
- 51:41so so I can refer you to a few cemetery people if you're really
- 51:45interested. Most people haven't asked.
- 51:47We're dying. We're dying to we're.
- 51:48Dying to know all. Right, all right, all right.
- 51:50Most on the cover that's a different thing.
- 51:52So that's amazing. You to cover Khadija work is of
- 51:55course amazing. Yeah, we should get someone with
- 51:56cover. Khadija.
- 51:57Yeah, Michael, on the. Board now the person who I'm
- 51:58thinking of, his father was in cover Khadija and then his
- 52:02brother is in a funeral homes. Apparently there's a law in New
- 52:05York that you're not allowed to own a cemetery and a Funeral
- 52:07Home. Really interesting.
- 52:10Yeah, don't. Doesn't the cemetery have if?
- 52:12You, like I said, we'll get someone on the program.
- 52:14I'll learn a little. I'm on I'm on the Kevra Khadija
- 52:16of Brewers really. And I can tell you honestly,
- 52:19there's nothing that you will have done in your life that
- 52:23makes you feel the Hassid when you do a a Tyra.
- 52:28The first Tyra that I did was actually in Tannersville.
- 52:32Crazy story. My father was on the Havre
- 52:35Kadish. She asked how these things
- 52:36happens because people's parents do it.
- 52:37So my father was on the Havre Kadisha in Brewers and we were
- 52:41in Tannersville for the summer and turns out there's a Jewish
- 52:44guy not from a Jewish guy who dropped dead on the golf course
- 52:48in Tannersville and and his family wanted a Jewish fur.
- 52:53So my father came to the house. He goes, hurry, I need you.
- 52:56I go, why? He goes, we're doing a tire.
- 52:58I go what? I've never done a tire.
- 53:00I don't know what I'm doing. For those that are listening, I
- 53:02don't know what to hire is. It's a purification process that
- 53:05we do for people that die before we bury them.
- 53:07It's very intense, very laborious.
- 53:09They really thoroughly clean the body.
- 53:12Yeah, really. Thorough is like an
- 53:13understatement of how you have to clean the body.
- 53:15So my father just took me to this Tyra in a garish Funeral
- 53:20Home in Tannersville and it was very hard.
- 53:26I don't know how many details I you guys want me to get on a
- 53:29podcast. No, no, I don't know if I want
- 53:31to. Hear the yeah, right.
- 53:31You want to hear I want to hear he's right.
- 53:33You can always edit, right. Go ahead.
- 53:35There's there's the bodies need the they need covered during a
- 53:41Tara and respect. And this wasn't a from person.
- 53:45This was a person who was Jewish but not affiliated at all.
- 53:49And like before the body even came to us, he had his eyes had
- 53:52already been donated to science. He had that on his card.
- 53:56So when we received this, this, this body, it already was in a
- 54:02very, very difficult state to do a Tyra on.
- 54:05That was my first Tyra. But afterwards I, I remember
- 54:08saying to my wife, I was saying, I have never felt so holy as I
- 54:13did after that Tyra. Because who's thanking you?
- 54:16Nobody's thanking you. Ultimate kindness.
- 54:18It was amazing. And then I joined right after
- 54:21that I joined and Berksham, I don't do that many.
- 54:25Wow, what's it, what's what's coming out of you know, your
- 54:29world in terms of other. But there are things coming like
- 54:33the the the Perry feel is coming, which is which is that
- 54:38that's filling in memory of my father.
- 54:41Like I said, my father was very into who's nifter.
- 54:43Which is what you'll buy a pair for anybody that.
- 54:45Wants No. It's a much better idea.
- 54:47It's a much better idea, Perry Feel is when, if someone
- 54:52experiences, I hope you guys have never experienced this, but
- 54:55if your father is nifter, right? So my father was nifter and I, I
- 54:59got his feeling right. But not only did I get his
- 55:01feeling, I got his father's feeling because my father never
- 55:05threw away his father's feeling. So when my father was nifter,
- 55:08Stefan remembers him. I got 3 pairs of filling.
- 55:12What are you doing with those filling?
- 55:14You're not giving them to your son for his bar mitzvah because
- 55:15everyone gets their son a beautiful new pair for the bar
- 55:17mitzvah. I'm not wearing them because I
- 55:18already have mine. So everyone just puts these
- 55:20pairs of filling into the basement and they get, they just
- 55:23gathered us. I'm telling you, most people you
- 55:25know will have a few pairs of filling somewhere in their
- 55:27closet or in the basement. You probably do.
- 55:29And they're not being used. So Perry Hill asks people to
- 55:33send us your filling and I will take these filling.
- 55:37I get them checked, we bring them to a cipher.
- 55:40He checks them, he's biting them.
- 55:41Sometimes they're usable, sometimes they're not.
- 55:43We rate them. We we fix them.
- 55:46We rate them. We put them in a beautiful new
- 55:48bag and we give them to organizations in Eric TSRL,
- 55:53organizations in America where they need filling.
- 55:56There's an endless demand. Barksham in Eric TSRL right now,
- 55:59but filling. And the beautiful thing is that
- 56:01if someone donated those film to me, we take them and we put them
- 56:05in a beautiful bag with the that person's name and his yard site
- 56:09on it. So when this boy and Eric
- 56:10Tesraul is putting on filling, he sees this person's name every
- 56:13time he puts it on. Really nice.
- 56:15But that's one of the things we're kicking off.
- 56:16It's been going on for a little while, but we're.
- 56:18Trying. You want to like totally degrade
- 56:20me. You want to totally strip me the
- 56:21little dignity that I have left? No, I just I No, that's not.
- 56:24I can do this full. Time, Michael, people are like
- 56:28getting creative also in ways how they can help you.
- 56:29Yeah it's not just like the good old fashioned here's 10 bucks go
- 56:33buy yourself something nice you know it's like let me do
- 56:36something meaningful right as well some it's going to touch
- 56:38your heart it's going to you can help two people at the same time
- 56:40you. See a need?
- 56:41Yeah, but that's amazing, right? You're helping this guy, He
- 56:43want. The guy needs the pairs to fill
- 56:45in. Bradinsky love this idea he's
- 56:47always got. It's a genius idea, by the way.
- 56:49I asked him. He was like, Oh yeah, I have 3
- 56:50pairs of you. Like immediately people have.
- 56:52It it's a genius idea. Expensive.
- 56:53Yeah, to do, but. Yeah, you're uplifting that in a
- 56:56shot, mom. You know, that was that was
- 56:57Nifter and this kid that's, you know, proud of his fill and he's
- 57:01very into it. You know, he's just starting.
- 57:02And every time he puts it on, he's looking at this person's
- 57:04name. And it's in his you imagine
- 57:06instead of so instead of my father's filling, my father's
- 57:09filling are actually in the Ukraine now.
- 57:11So yes, I gave him to a yeshiva in the Ukraine, but my father's
- 57:15film, which would be in my basement on the on the ping pong
- 57:18table are now being used by this boy in the Ukraine who sees my
- 57:21father's name every day on the bag.
- 57:23It's awesome. It's an awesome thing.
- 57:25And so I when so I'm very close to the heimts V center in in RT
- 57:29straw from centers yeshiva. So he's my classmate from
- 57:32Brewers and he loved the idea also and he hooked me up with
- 57:36them with with some sight from in there too.
- 57:38So and since October 7th, you can't fill the demand.
- 57:43There are so many people who were not affiliated before who
- 57:46now want to put on films. So for anyone listening, if you
- 57:49have a pair of films from someone, how do you get it to
- 57:51you? Well, you can go to Perry Hill,
- 57:54but it's better to just call me. Can I give my number?
- 57:57Yeah, yeah. We'll put out your number.
- 57:58On put on my number, you just call me and you can go to the
- 58:01website, but it's it'll just go much faster if you call me.
- 58:03Right, Right. That's amazing.
- 58:05Wow. Yeah, I mean, and this, this
- 58:07guy's doing stuff like this, not just me, just you see a need.
- 58:11You have more, you have more up your sleeve.
- 58:13I know because we discussed earlier about your working out.
- 58:15That gym, that's, that one's in the works, right?
- 58:18So you go to a local gym here. I go to a gym in New City.
- 58:20And it's a special gym. It's a one-on-one trainer.
- 58:23Yeah, his name is Hassan. He's a great guy.
- 58:26People swear by him. Yeah, that's what I.
- 58:28Heard that's so special I heard about it there's.
- 58:30A lot of guys in our community who go to him, I could just say
- 58:32that there's probably 2025 guys in our community who go to him
- 58:36and he's one-on-one training, but there's usually 3 or 4 guys
- 58:41are at the same time training and it's it's pure bodybuilding.
- 58:43He does weights and bodybuilding, but he's Jewish.
- 58:46His mother was Jewish and his father was Iranian.
- 58:51So but he's Jewish and he's very, very highly respectful of
- 58:56of all of his from clients. And he actually, you would talk
- 59:01about Maishi, my son-in-law, Maishi goes to the gym and he's
- 59:04very close with him as well. Maishi got in to start putting
- 59:07on his film really. This week he started putting on
- 59:10and says he's going to do it every day.
- 59:12Nice, that's cool. I think Maishi just wants to get
- 59:14out of working out so it just gives him a few minute breather.
- 59:17So what's this organization you're trying to?
- 59:19What's your? Idea.
- 59:19So the idea is I've noticed that guy, like we noticed years ago
- 59:24how guys were getting into biking.
- 59:26So many people are getting into bodybuilding now and I mean
- 59:28weightlifting bodybuilding, I don't know if you've seen it,
- 59:31but I see it a lot. So there's an organization that
- 59:34we're on the works now, which will be a one day event where
- 59:37people are pumping iron for Tadaka.
- 59:40And the idea is to do it for Almanus in Rockland County,
- 59:44which is AI don't think there's a bigger as a host than
- 59:47supporting Almanus. So the idea would be it's we
- 59:51think it's going to be pump it up, pump it up to lift up.
- 59:55We are lifting up spirits of people.
- 59:57So Pump It Up will be the next weightlifting Sedaka
- 1:00:00organization that you will see in Mitsubishi.
- 1:00:01Wow, That's what can I recommend a song that you play in the
- 1:00:04background? Yeah.
- 1:00:05Pump. Pump it up.
- 1:00:06Pump it. Yeah.
- 1:00:07Very crucial. Thank you.
- 1:00:08Thank you. You don't even know that song.
- 1:00:09Yes, I do. Yes I do.
- 1:00:11I do. Wow, you're going?
- 1:00:13To get Hans and Franz. Anybody know that?
- 1:00:16Come on. That's the Saturday night.
- 1:00:17Let's say I love it. No hands with friends yet You're
- 1:00:20an organization junkie. I just want to put it out.
- 1:00:22I. Guess so.
- 1:00:23And thank God you are, thank God because many people are addicted
- 1:00:27to lots of things and they're not helping others.
- 1:00:29They're actually not even helping themselves.
- 1:00:32You like you wake up in the morning, like how can I make an
- 1:00:35impact? How can I change people's lives
- 1:00:38for the better? How can I do something?
- 1:00:40And it's because of that mindset, Michael, that attitude
- 1:00:42that people like him have is why we're all in a better place and
- 1:00:45we're all better for it. We're like we're reaping the
- 1:00:47benefit. Thank God it's cool.
- 1:00:48You, you know, we're the recipients, you know.
- 1:00:49It's cool you watch Shark Tank, right?
- 1:00:51And you wonder, like, what's someone going to come up with
- 1:00:53now? Yeah, I've seen all the.
- 1:00:55Right, already, right. Yeah.
- 1:00:56Suddenly someone comes up with the idea like Oh my God, Junior,
- 1:00:58why didn't I think? Of that and how is this still
- 1:00:59something new that we haven't and that's.
- 1:01:00What I'm thinking about now, I wonder how many of our listeners
- 1:01:02are thinking, you know what, I have an idea for an organization
- 1:01:04like put it in the comments, let us know and let you know maybe
- 1:01:06someone will start it because these are some great ideas.
- 1:01:09Congratulations to you for for starting this and actually doing
- 1:01:11them. I would say the way you're
- 1:01:15putting that out there, it's also good to join up with
- 1:01:18existing ones. I've found that for me that it's
- 1:01:21easier when I have this idea to piggyback on someone else who's
- 1:01:24doing something similar. Bring it to your neighborhood A
- 1:01:27it'll help you with so much of your startup and B you'll you'll
- 1:01:31have the support that you need. I like that idea.
- 1:01:32I we've done that around a decade ago, actually 10 years
- 1:01:35ago with actually with Tom Keshavis and Kuppa Sesra.
- 1:01:38Really it's two out of the four organizations that they help
- 1:01:41people get jobs. So we created Rockland Jobs
- 1:01:43Network. Yeah.
- 1:01:44And that way if anyone needs a job in Rockland.
- 1:01:46County. I was.
- 1:01:46I was with you at that meeting. Yeah.
- 1:01:48Yeah, I remember those. Those.
- 1:01:49Used to go going strong, thank God and.
- 1:01:51And Michael, you have your own little network of getting people
- 1:01:53jobs and helping people. Michael's very passionate about
- 1:01:56that. You enjoy it.
- 1:01:57It's almost like a I enjoy a. Sport for him, it's a sport for
- 1:01:59me. You're watching people help
- 1:02:00build their careers. I mean it's.
- 1:02:02The anytime someone even mentions an iota about looking
- 1:02:05for a job, I mean, go to Michael.
- 1:02:07Call Michael right now. It's the biggest you're, you're
- 1:02:09actually doing him a favor if you call him because he really
- 1:02:12likes helping people find a job because that is the ultimate
- 1:02:14hassle. It is if you set somebody up for
- 1:02:16a lighter, they could sustain themselves.
- 1:02:18They don't have to keep asking for help.
- 1:02:20That is the best way to. Have to tell you that lately
- 1:02:24I've been meeting a lot of people who don't have any
- 1:02:27degrees of any sort and they're in their 20s.
- 1:02:29They come back from yeshiva. One of the things I was
- 1:02:31thinking, by the way, is to get like a, a boy or two from
- 1:02:34yeshiva after school in Israel and talk to them about what it
- 1:02:37what now? You know, you went to Israel for
- 1:02:392345 years. You know, you're not married
- 1:02:42yet. What are you gonna do now?
- 1:02:43What have they been doing for 100 years?
- 1:02:45We've always been in this position and we've done quite OK
- 1:02:47for ourselves. I don't know about that.
- 1:02:48We figured it out. We're very resourceful people.
- 1:02:50It sounds we're very intelligent.
- 1:02:52I guess not enough people are coming to collect from you
- 1:02:54because ultimately it's not true.
- 1:02:55They end up not I'm. Not saying it's a perfect
- 1:02:57science. You don't have married children
- 1:02:59yet, right? No, I Michael, I know does
- 1:03:01because I've watched your statuses.
- 1:03:03And when you have married kids, this is something you think
- 1:03:05about a lot. Yeah.
- 1:03:06We want them to learn. It's.
- 1:03:07Not so, by the way. And you're saying, true, yeah,
- 1:03:09we've done it for thousands of years, but there's a challenge.
- 1:03:12With it, no. I think the challenge is that
- 1:03:14the younger kids that maybe even ourselves at one point, but they
- 1:03:17have high expectations and they want to be rich very quickly.
- 1:03:21Therefore what that's the problem we have, that's the
- 1:03:23epidemic. I think that they want to go out
- 1:03:24and get a freaking job and start building a career for
- 1:03:27themselves. There's plenty of opportunity.
- 1:03:29I don't want to hear this. I don't want to do with my life.
- 1:03:31I have a job, go get a job. There's so many places that are
- 1:03:34dying for people to come work and they can teach you a craft
- 1:03:37so this way they can, you know, make you part of the
- 1:03:38organization. Get started, get going, get off
- 1:03:41your butt and go to work. That's it.
- 1:03:43Don't give me this. Michael.
- 1:03:44He's 22. What?
- 1:03:44What's next? What, you feeling bad for him?
- 1:03:47No, you feel bad for him. Don't feel bad for him.
- 1:03:48If he wants to find a way, he'll find a way.
- 1:03:50It's not his work. We've all done it.
- 1:03:52We've all been there. I'll send you 20 guys that come
- 1:03:54to me in the past few weeks and you tell them the same thing.
- 1:03:56You'll see it's a dead end because it's not so simple.
- 1:03:58It's a dead end because they also want to drive a nice car.
- 1:04:01They also want to have money in their pocket.
- 1:04:03They want to be no, no, no, Michael.
- 1:04:05They want to go to Florida 8 * a year because their friends are
- 1:04:08going. That's what it is.
- 1:04:09I don't know, they want to just go through the grind like most
- 1:04:12average Americans do that they don't have this mindset.
- 1:04:14Like unfortunately, we've inflicted on ourselves in a big
- 1:04:17way in the Orthodox communities that we've, we've created a high
- 1:04:20lifestyle for ourselves and it's become the norm in a lot of
- 1:04:23ways. Both, right.
- 1:04:24It's the reality. No, no, either one of us is
- 1:04:26right. You have to take a side.
- 1:04:27Give me a minute to make my argument.
- 1:04:28I don't either appreciate Yeah, give me a by the way, take a
- 1:04:31side, don't play both sides. Don't don't play Ki will if you
- 1:04:34might both make me. That's what.
- 1:04:35This is what Yankees do. Yeah, by the way.
- 1:04:38Well, thank you. I want you.
- 1:04:39I want to say Yankee. No, but there's just circles at
- 1:04:41all. No, actually I want.
- 1:04:43You, because what you're saying is so true.
- 1:04:46And it comes back to the Yankees, which is they don't
- 1:04:49believe in what you just said. The Yankees.
- 1:04:51You have to have a degree. You have to go to college.
- 1:04:54You, you, you're, you cannot go there.
- 1:04:57It's all like, my parents didn't let me stay a third year.
- 1:04:59You have to start college and go to law school already.
- 1:05:01I don't think you need that anymore.
- 1:05:03I think there's so much and my mother's going to yell at me.
- 1:05:06I don't think you need that anymore.
- 1:05:07There's so much that guys can do that I see guys doing, but they
- 1:05:11just have to have the initiative.
- 1:05:13And I agree with Oshi this. So we we, we have such high
- 1:05:16lifestyles that our kids let me don't want to.
- 1:05:18Let me take you to my point for a minute, and we're going to
- 1:05:20wrap up in in just a minute. So to my to the point that I was
- 1:05:24making is the reality is that when they're coming back from
- 1:05:27school after four or five years and they're about to get married
- 1:05:30and they need to support a family within two or three
- 1:05:32years, you can't just get a job and work hard at it and make a
- 1:05:35lot of money. It's just not the reality.
- 1:05:37Just telling you why. Did you have to end with and
- 1:05:39make a lot of money? I know no.
- 1:05:40No, you have to. You're going to make $60,000 a
- 1:05:42year because you're going to make. $50,000 Not enough to
- 1:05:45raise a family? Why isn't it enough to raise a
- 1:05:47family? What's family?
- 1:05:48You're 22 years old. You barely just got married.
- 1:05:51My point is that what are you doing in three years?
- 1:05:52What are you doing in four years in order to grow a in four?
- 1:05:55Years you'll make 70,000. Dollars again What?
- 1:05:57I'm then you'll make 80,000. Living living an Orthodox life
- 1:05:59is very expensive, yes. Because of how we have.
- 1:06:03Not because of Florida, because of kosher food, because of
- 1:06:05holidays, because of schools. Yes, but not as expensive as it
- 1:06:08needs to be. It's the reality though is
- 1:06:09expensive. Conversation for another.
- 1:06:11Day, you know, I was making, I was making one.
- 1:06:13One point though, which I'll still make, and we'll get to the
- 1:06:15argument another time. Really.
- 1:06:16Ozil spoke about this. Yeah, it's the expenses are.
- 1:06:20Crazy. They're they are crazy.
- 1:06:22My point was to you is that it's not enough to just get a job.
- 1:06:25And my message is, is that you have to get a skill.
- 1:06:28And it's not just about going to school, because I like your
- 1:06:30point also, which is go to school in advance and get A and
- 1:06:33get a career. But what most people don't
- 1:06:35recognize is just because you don't have a career and your
- 1:06:38parents didn't push you to go to school or you didn't have the
- 1:06:41hindsight to do that, or you went to coal or whatever it is,
- 1:06:43doesn't mean you can't develop a skill.
- 1:06:45And that is the important message that I'm trying to say I
- 1:06:47hear, not to just get a job, to get a skill.
- 1:06:50I agree, I like that. I like that you can do that.
- 1:06:52There's so much out. There, there's a lot you can get
- 1:06:54into H. Factory get a skill, not a
- 1:06:55degree. Get a go.
- 1:06:56If you can't get a degree, get a skill.
- 1:06:58And of course, if you can't get both, then you know, you go with
- 1:07:00Oshie's, you know, go work in a pizza store and try your best.
- 1:07:03When we hire new employees here, specifically reps, sales reps,
- 1:07:07account managers, we in a lot of cases take them right out of
- 1:07:10college and we tell them this is like what we always say.
- 1:07:13And after years now they were telling us now how true it was,
- 1:07:17is that we're actually going to bring you on board and give you
- 1:07:19a college education that's going to be useful.
- 1:07:21They could do something with it and we're going to pay you.
- 1:07:23That's why we do that. We're not going to take your
- 1:07:25money. We're not going to charge you
- 1:07:26$80,000 tuition. We're actually going to pay you
- 1:07:28while we teach you. We don't expect any ROI.
- 1:07:31We're not expecting you to to close deals and make money for
- 1:07:34us. We're expecting you to learn.
- 1:07:35We have to just learn. We want to teach.
- 1:07:37We want to be a teaching type of company.
- 1:07:39We want you to learn and we're going to pay you while we do it.
- 1:07:42And that's called teaching them a skill, not giving them a
- 1:07:43degree and teach them a school. Michael, you're very on target.
- 1:07:46Kudos to you. I can get behind it.
- 1:07:47Let's start an organization, guys.
- 1:07:49Teaching people skills. Let's go.
- 1:07:53We're an organization. Sure it's.
- 1:07:54I'm sure it's. You know.
- 1:07:57We're going to run. If it is, it's not me starting
- 1:07:58it. I don't have a record for
- 1:08:00starting organization. We do have a thing that we have
- 1:08:02that we've done called the Lightning round.
- 1:08:03Oh boy. OK, I didn't prepare one for
- 1:08:05you. Instead, we're trying, we're
- 1:08:07trying something new, which Oshi and I just spoke about earlier
- 1:08:09is let's create a staple question that we asked to
- 1:08:12everybody. Yes.
- 1:08:12And we're going to start trying some new ones and see how they
- 1:08:14stick. I guess one would be easier
- 1:08:16than. Yeah, I mean, let's see.
- 1:08:17I mean, it depends on the guests, but Oshi, you came up
- 1:08:19with a. Question or I liked it.
- 1:08:21I don't know if he's going to answer it though, and at least
- 1:08:23he's not going to answer it honestly.
- 1:08:24Let's try. Let's try.
- 1:08:25Yeah. Give us something that you deem
- 1:08:27to be really embarrassing, something that you know you went
- 1:08:30through in your life, that you've learned from and you've
- 1:08:32grown from, but you're kind of embarrassed about it.
- 1:08:34That's yeah. That's what I did once.
- 1:08:36That's what I said once. That's what happened.
- 1:08:38But I'm a better person today. Today I'm a different person and
- 1:08:41I know better and I want other people to learn from.
- 1:08:45This something like you mean like tactless or something or
- 1:08:48just like something which is embarrassing which I got past
- 1:08:51You mean tackles that. People learn, try on.
- 1:08:53Yeah, I'll settle either way. Right now, I'm not in a position
- 1:08:55to make demand. We're just starting.
- 1:08:56We're just starting this. So.
- 1:08:58So whatever you come up with. I wouldn't, you know, a little
- 1:09:03bit you put him in the spot, but it's, it comes back to
- 1:09:06Washington Heights, comes back to to Yankees.
- 1:09:10When I was a little kid, I, I once, I once someone asked me
- 1:09:18to, to, to go get their pocketbook in front of rubbish
- 1:09:22Schwab's building. Please go get that from me.
- 1:09:26And I said OK, because it was an excuse to get out of school.
- 1:09:30So I ran out of school. Rob Schwab's house was up the
- 1:09:32block of Schwab. And so I went in front of
- 1:09:36Schwab's house and there was no, no person with a pocketbook.
- 1:09:39So I rang the doorbell. Stepping knows how this lays
- 1:09:42out. I rang the doorbell to Schwab's
- 1:09:45apartment. OK.
- 1:09:47And Tom, Rav Schwab. Hi Rav Shiman Schwab, Kadu
- 1:09:50Ladar, who was already at that time quite advanced in his age
- 1:09:53and I rang the doorbell, no answer.
- 1:09:56I rang again, no answer. Like after 5 minutes of him
- 1:10:00schlepping to his doorbell, he went hello.
- 1:10:03I said it's Ori Kirchner. And anyway he just buzzed.
- 1:10:07OK, I went upstairs to Schwab's apartment, third second floor
- 1:10:11and it rang the doorbell. I thought maybe her pocketbook
- 1:10:15was by her Schwab and I rang the doorbell.
- 1:10:18I don't really, I don't know how the story's coming out, but this
- 1:10:21is just what I love my mind. I rang the doorbell and no
- 1:10:25answer. I rang his apartment bell again.
- 1:10:28After 5 or 6 minutes, I hear shuffling to the door.
- 1:10:33It's a Schwab opens the door himself.
- 1:10:36I guess someone's there to help him that day.
- 1:10:38And I'm a little kid and I say and he opens the door and
- 1:10:42there's an old German of Halau. He says to me, I go, do you have
- 1:10:48Missus Loeb's pocketbook? And he goes, no, slams the door
- 1:10:54on me. But so I was matriarch, the God
- 1:10:57of Ladar to get out of his seat and come to the door and deal
- 1:11:02with an 8 year old kid who didn't always do it.
- 1:11:03But what did I learn from that? So I learned respect for goddamn
- 1:11:07after that. Because I've thought about that
- 1:11:09story a long time. I'm 53 and I'm still thinking
- 1:11:11about that story. But I stayed in Brewers and we
- 1:11:14used to have a rotation every Wednesday.
- 1:11:16It was my supposed to walk with Schwab Deshul.
- 1:11:19So, you know, I reminded him of that story when I was a few
- 1:11:22years older. And I turned that into the
- 1:11:25greatest respect that every Wednesday I drew, I walked him
- 1:11:28to shul. I put him in the wheelchair, I
- 1:11:29put the seats down for him. So I guess your most
- 1:11:33embarrassing moments can still turn out to be awesome lessons.
- 1:11:36There you go. Where was the pocket?
- 1:11:38One second, One second? Where was the pocket?
- 1:11:40I never found the pocket, never found the back of it, but I've
- 1:11:43told Misses Loeb that story. She loves it.
- 1:11:46Of course, hurry, before we end that we got to ask you.
- 1:11:49This is a staple question that we ask everybody and we're
- 1:11:51following this pattern and we're hoping to get more and more
- 1:11:53guests doing this. Who's a guest that you would
- 1:11:56recommend after being here on the path?
- 1:11:57Did you have a good time? Beautiful.
- 1:11:59Yeah. Loved it.
- 1:11:59OK. Really loved.
- 1:12:00It So who do you think would be a good guest to sit in your
- 1:12:02seat? So for sure I, I'm for sure
- 1:12:05Robbie Center, my Rev center, I mean both Robbie centers,
- 1:12:08they're both super. The I Don't know if you've ever
- 1:12:10spoken to Robbie center here. Robbie Center here is a close
- 1:12:13friend of mine now because. Ari, Cynthia or I'm center his
- 1:12:15brother and I as well. They're both powerhouses.
- 1:12:18They are non-stop energy. Both of them have incessant
- 1:12:22energy to I mean, I want you to know I'm very close to both of
- 1:12:26them. But the representer I, I will
- 1:12:29take credit that myself and a friend of mine, Yona, we brought
- 1:12:31representer to be the Rav in our shul.
- 1:12:34I knew him from Brewers because we were in Brewers together.
- 1:12:36He was in the base marriage when I was in high school.
- 1:12:39And before he became our Rav, my friend Yona and I went to Robert
- 1:12:44Edinski and we asked him should we hire Ravi Center for the
- 1:12:48shul? And Rudinski said to us, Rabbi
- 1:12:51Center is my Rebbe in chesed. Wow, Rudinski said.
- 1:12:56That Rabbi Center is his rebbe in Chesed.
- 1:12:58That's beautiful. So every I would recommend Irish
- 1:13:01Center. Yeah, the best.
- 1:13:03Can you call him and ask him to do?
- 1:13:04Sure. OK, go ahead.
- 1:13:04Cool. Sure.
- 1:13:05I'll call him right now. Go ahead.
- 1:13:06Do you want me to go? Yeah, See if he.
- 1:13:07Picks up? Yeah, sure.
- 1:13:08Why not? Never.
- 1:13:09Never picks up for me. That's right.
- 1:13:11No, I'm kidding. I'm kidding.
- 1:13:11He's actually very accessible. Most of the times we spend
- 1:13:15together is like 11:00 at night in his living room so.
- 1:13:18If it works. And I'm sure he's been on the
- 1:13:19podcast before. I don't know if he's been on a
- 1:13:21podcast. No, no.
- 1:13:22I. I I know how MTV has.
- 1:13:24Well, his family owns the Huff K, right?
- 1:13:26Is that the the organization, the Huff K?
- 1:13:28Yeah. That's such a justitious
- 1:13:29organization that's worthwhile discussing, No?
- 1:13:31One is available to take your a lot more than that.
- 1:13:33It's pretty good. Also.
- 1:13:34It's not looking good, boys. OK, again, thank you Ori for
- 1:13:38joining us. We really, really appreciate it.
- 1:13:39You thank you to all our listeners, our subscribers.
- 1:13:41Please don't forget to like, comment, subscribe, get and
- 1:13:44we're loving the feedback. We're loving the energy.
- 1:13:46We appreciate it all. And don't forget the 100 ride
- 1:13:49coming soon to a street and hear you watch out everybody.
- 1:13:53Thank. You literally watch out.
- 1:13:54Thank you for. Having me thank you guys be.
- 1:13:56Welcome. Thank you for joining.
- 1:13:56All right, Beautiful. Amazing.
- 1:13:58Thank you very much. That was.
- 1:13:59Great. I haven't done one of those you.
- 1:14:01Guys were great. Appreciate it.
- 1:14:03That's the idea.
