Eagle Tall Ship Arrives in Newport | Providence News
The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter EAGLE, America’s only active square-rigger and a floating training academy for future Coast Guard officers, has arrived in Newport to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary. Built in Germany in 1936 as the Horst Wessel, it was later seized by the U.S. after WWII and transformed into the EAGLE we know today.
