- 0:04Speaker 1: and Matt Flynn.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Okay, here we go where.
- 0:06Speaker 1: The players get broken down and science gets denied.
- 0:10Speaker 2: I gotta come off the bitch.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Hour two of Off the Bench Live from the Mercedes
- 0:14Speaker 1: Benz Baton Rouge Studio starts now.
- 0:24Speaker 2: All right, welcome back in.
- 0:25Speaker 3: It is OTB here on one O four five ESPN
- 0:28Speaker 3: on this hump day morning. I'm gonna go now to
- 0:33Speaker 3: the phone lines. My colleague gets serious XM. Catch her
- 0:38Speaker 3: on ESPN not only on the sidelines, but hosting Squeeze
- 0:41Speaker 3: play there, which is one of the best things that
- 0:43Speaker 3: we have in sports, and also can throw an act
- 0:46Speaker 3: like Paul Bunyan. Chris Budden joins the show KB.
- 0:50Speaker 2: What's going on?
- 0:51Speaker 4: Hey, glad to be with you guys. What's going on?
- 0:54Speaker 3: Don't lie like when we went to Dave and Busters
- 0:56Speaker 3: in Green Bay, Wisconsin and you threw the acts and
- 1:00Speaker 3: put me to shame. Please tell me you went home
- 1:03Speaker 3: and you bragged about that.
- 1:05Speaker 4: I mean, let's be fair, like I just stuck the act.
- 1:08Speaker 4: There was a difference. It's not like you didn't think
- 1:10Speaker 4: it's the bullseye. I just figured out, you know, I
- 1:12Speaker 4: don't know what this says about some of the things
- 1:14Speaker 4: that we do on the road on a Friday on
- 1:17Speaker 4: college football weekends, but yes, have a little bit more
- 1:20Speaker 4: maybe experience than you do.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Okay, okay, fair enough, fair enough. I know you're going
- 1:25Speaker 3: to be calling LSU in Arkansas, but I do want
- 1:27Speaker 3: to go back to Squeeze play. It is one of
- 1:30Speaker 3: my favorite things to watch, and y'all do such a
- 1:33Speaker 3: great job, and it's always kind of cool to see
- 1:36Speaker 3: y'all watch like some of the biggest moments as they're happening,
- 1:40Speaker 3: like you know, kind of the behind the scenes look.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Always look forward to kind of seeing your content there.
- 1:45Speaker 3: But which one this year?
- 1:47Speaker 2: Right? And you and.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Rooney and Burkie like you're all around like the TV's
- 1:52Speaker 3: kind of watching you can't believe that it's actually happening.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Which one was that this year?
- 1:57Speaker 4: Vanderbilt? I mean that the fact that the number one
- 2:01Speaker 4: seed lost, it was the way that it happened because
- 2:05Speaker 4: Burkie and I had just gotten done calling the SEC Championship,
- 2:09Speaker 4: which Vanderbilt won. Their offense had found this groove and
- 2:13Speaker 4: then it just it wasn't there at the regional. But
- 2:16Speaker 4: then you know, like the way that that played out,
- 2:19Speaker 4: and I can't remember who hit it, but there was
- 2:20Speaker 4: the ground rule double and it was like, had that
- 2:22Speaker 4: not happened, it would have been a tie ballgame. And
- 2:25Speaker 4: then you get R. J. Austin coming up, who was like,
- 2:28Speaker 4: oh for that weekend, and it was just you didn't
- 2:32Speaker 4: feel good about that matchup, and so to watch that
- 2:36Speaker 4: live and to watch the ball go over the fence,
- 2:38Speaker 4: you're like, oh, my gosh, that took a run off
- 2:40Speaker 4: the board, and that was the moment that we were
- 2:43Speaker 4: all just like that's the end.
- 2:45Speaker 2: I guess there's a lot to choose from.
- 2:47Speaker 3: When I'm asking the question, I thought you would go
- 2:49Speaker 3: Vaderbilt because that makes sense. They were the number one
- 2:51Speaker 3: overall seed, and I think all of us were right
- 2:53Speaker 3: there with you. But like, as you see how it
- 2:56Speaker 3: played out, and you and I have talked a lot
- 2:58Speaker 3: about Texas throughout the college baseball and they go down
- 3:01Speaker 3: to UTSA.
- 3:02Speaker 2: I mean, there were so many different moments.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Oxford Mississippi, the way Ole Miss had been playing, and
- 3:08Speaker 3: you just figure, like they're in Swayze, They're going to
- 3:11Speaker 3: find a way to win the game, and even though
- 3:13Speaker 3: they were down twelve to three, they're going to find
- 3:14Speaker 3: a way, and it looked like they were going to
- 3:16Speaker 3: find a way, only to not in Murray State is
- 3:19Speaker 3: still playing. I mean, the parody right now in college
- 3:22Speaker 3: baseball is really showing through.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Yeah, especially you.
- 3:25Speaker 4: Look at the conferences that will be represented in Omaha
- 3:31Speaker 4: and even the old brands, Like there's three teams that
- 3:34Speaker 4: were part of the PAC twelve. And you know, last
- 3:36Speaker 4: year we're sitting here saying, you know, is parody over
- 3:39Speaker 4: in college baseball because we had three fourteens from the
- 3:41Speaker 4: A SCC, four teams from the ACC and it's just like,
- 3:44Speaker 4: hold on, wait a year, and now we'll have a
- 3:45Speaker 4: four seat in this thing. So you know, part of
- 3:48Speaker 4: me is it's a representation of this year's college baseball season.
- 3:52Speaker 4: We didn't have a super team, we did, you know,
- 3:55Speaker 4: we had so many different teams at the top at
- 3:57Speaker 4: number one. We didn't have one team that dominated everybody else.
- 4:01Speaker 4: But I also think for everyone that thought that like
- 4:03Speaker 4: in Io will ruin things for the small schools, I
- 4:06Speaker 4: think it did the exact opposite, because now it's given
- 4:09Speaker 4: them the ability to have all these players beyond full rides,
- 4:12Speaker 4: you know, where we weren't able to before and now
- 4:14Speaker 4: that will change even more with the House settlement. But
- 4:17Speaker 4: whereas for so many years Vandergilt had this advantage right
- 4:20Speaker 4: because they had endowment scholarships, they were able to afford
- 4:24Speaker 4: an entire roster instead of just eleven point seven, Now
- 4:26Speaker 4: you're seeing more of these teams. And I think the
- 4:29Speaker 4: other interesting thing, and really and I have talked about
- 4:32Speaker 4: this off inner, is that when you look at the
- 4:36Speaker 4: way that we do know, it's not like any other
- 4:39Speaker 4: regular season series. And so you know, if you're LSU,
- 4:43Speaker 4: you got two great pitchers, you can pretty much win
- 4:45Speaker 4: every series. Well, now you get into a regional format,
- 4:48Speaker 4: if you lose a game, what does your bullpen look like?
- 4:51Speaker 4: And we can debate whether or not that's a great
- 4:53Speaker 4: way to determine a champion and determine your way to
- 4:56Speaker 4: a Super Omaha. But you know it's that's where teams,
- 5:02Speaker 4: you know, rise and fall and how you end up
- 5:04Speaker 4: with upsets.
- 5:06Speaker 3: KB, what was your most surprising Super Regional outcome?
- 5:11Speaker 4: Oh, I guess I would say North Carolina falling.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Just you lose eighteen to two if you're Arizona the
- 5:17Speaker 3: first game too, like not only how Carolina probably came
- 5:20Speaker 3: into it, but after you lose two touchdowns.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Yeah, like the resiliency of an Arizona team which, by
- 5:27Speaker 4: the way, like plowed their way through regionals and put
- 5:30Speaker 4: up thirty one runs and then to go out and
- 5:33Speaker 4: just get get an eighteen spot put on you and
- 5:36Speaker 4: to be able to rebound from that, to me, I thought,
- 5:39Speaker 4: I didn't see that coming. And I thought like, North
- 5:42Speaker 4: Carolina's got some superstars. They got some guys like Gavin
- 5:45Speaker 4: Gallaher who played fantastic in the postseason. Like I thought
- 5:48Speaker 4: after watch, like we start going through Rooney and I like, Okay,
- 5:51Speaker 4: which ones do we think are going to game threes
- 5:53Speaker 4: before the matchups even get started? And that was one
- 5:56Speaker 4: of Chapel Hill that I was like, Okay, that one's
- 5:58Speaker 4: going too, especially after the way they went the first day.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Yeah, no question about it.
- 6:02Speaker 3: I mean North Carolina they look like they were ready
- 6:05Speaker 3: to take like that next step. I know, if you
- 6:07Speaker 3: go back to the early two thousands, they were back
- 6:09Speaker 3: to back runner.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Yeah, they was back to back runner up.
- 6:13Speaker 3: They're at the College World Series and they didn't really
- 6:15Speaker 3: parlay that into extended success.
- 6:17Speaker 2: They've had one offs.
- 6:18Speaker 3: Here and there, but I felt like if they got
- 6:20Speaker 3: back to Omaha, this year, maybe they could start some
- 6:22Speaker 3: of them, but Arizona had other plans. As we kind
- 6:25Speaker 3: of look at some of the the Omahall matchups, KB,
- 6:30Speaker 3: it's gonna be hard, Like, even if you weren't doing
- 6:32Speaker 3: the game, it'd be hard to go away from LSU
- 6:35Speaker 3: and Arkansas maybe being the most intriguing to anybody that
- 6:38Speaker 3: loves college baseball.
- 6:39Speaker 4: Yeah, and then like the importance of winning game one
- 6:42Speaker 4: of that one, right, like being able to get in
- 6:45Speaker 4: that championship series. It feels like the winner of that
- 6:48Speaker 4: game is your winner for the College World Series.
- 6:50Speaker 5: It just does.
- 6:52Speaker 4: Given the pitching matchup. It's also like that game one
- 6:55Speaker 4: is you know, you get eight versus eight. Yeah, the
- 6:57Speaker 4: way that this thing plays out really rare. Get that again,
- 7:01Speaker 4: and so to be able to get you know, Kate
- 7:04Speaker 4: Anderson versus Zach Rude, and like watching Zach in that
- 7:08Speaker 4: series against Tennessee, to me that that one wasn't surprising
- 7:13Speaker 4: in the way that Arkansas won. I was surprised that
- 7:15Speaker 4: that didn't go to a game three. Yeah, but the
- 7:18Speaker 4: fire that he had on the mound, you know, I
- 7:20Speaker 4: to me, it's it's almost a shame that they have
- 7:23Speaker 4: to match up on that day. One and if they're
- 7:26Speaker 4: not on opposite sides of the bracket, because what a
- 7:28Speaker 4: championship series that would be. But that's going to be
- 7:31Speaker 4: fire on a Saturday night.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it's going to be incredible. And these two teams
- 7:34Speaker 2: know each other.
- 7:35Speaker 3: They played just at the beginning of May, so it's
- 7:37Speaker 3: not even that long ago that we saw the series.
- 7:40Speaker 2: LSU was able to take two of three.
- 7:42Speaker 3: Game one goes to extras, they run roll Arkansas in
- 7:44Speaker 3: the second game, and then game three, Arkansas is victorious.
- 7:48Speaker 2: There.
- 7:48Speaker 3: So these two teams know each other incredibly well. But
- 7:51Speaker 3: you're right, like about getting off on the right foot.
- 7:53Speaker 3: It's not to say you can't go into the loser's
- 7:55Speaker 3: bracket and you know, make a run. LSU last National championship.
- 7:59Speaker 3: They did that. But kb to your point, if you will, you.
- 8:04Speaker 6: Did.
- 8:04Speaker 2: You had a couple of guys that we could certainly
- 8:06Speaker 2: highlight in that one.
- 8:07Speaker 4: Well, that's that's interesting because I'm going through the notes
- 8:10Speaker 4: of this LSU team and while you have fantastic pitching,
- 8:13Speaker 4: like you had a Tommy White right like you had dudes,
- 8:16Speaker 4: and you had a dealing cruise like I'm thinking of dudes,
- 8:19Speaker 4: and that's not a slight to any of the guys
- 8:21Speaker 4: on this team. Now, it just it felt more star
- 8:25Speaker 4: powerish than this team. But it almost feels like Jay
- 8:29Speaker 4: believes in this team a little bit more the way
- 8:30Speaker 4: he talks about them.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, because I mean there's some spots that
- 8:36Speaker 3: that like, I think you could say that they're better.
- 8:38Speaker 3: I mean, I think they give up a full run
- 8:39Speaker 3: less per game than that team did. And obviously, like
- 8:43Speaker 3: ty Floyd stepped in and stepped up in Omaha, that
- 8:46Speaker 3: you're in the back half of that year. But if
- 8:48Speaker 3: LSU does win this game, KB, like, no matter who
- 8:51Speaker 3: wins UCLA, Murray State, no matter who they throw, the
- 8:55Speaker 3: thing about this team that you know, you're gonna have
- 8:58Speaker 3: the better pitcher, You're gonna have the better starting pitcher
- 9:00Speaker 3: with Anthony Jinson. Like there's not a lot of teams
- 9:03Speaker 3: in the history of college baseball where you can have
- 9:05Speaker 3: the number one and number three guys in strikeouts on
- 9:08Speaker 3: the same staff, and so that like, it's always always,
- 9:11Speaker 3: always important to win game number one in Omaha. But
- 9:14Speaker 3: if you're LSU and you can win game number one
- 9:17Speaker 3: knowing who you have in game number two, it makes
- 9:19Speaker 3: it that much more important to me.
- 9:21Speaker 4: Absolutely. I mean, like I remember, it's it's so fascinating
- 9:25Speaker 4: watching this right because the way that it plays out.
- 9:27Speaker 4: You know, by the time you get to the Champ Series,
- 9:29Speaker 4: if you're able to win game one in game two,
- 9:31Speaker 4: then you can do your Champ Series with having it
- 9:34Speaker 4: be Kate Anderson, Anthony Iinsen and whoever you want game three.
- 9:38Speaker 4: But if you have to go through this other route,
- 9:40Speaker 4: by the time you get to the Champ Series, those
- 9:42Speaker 4: guys aren't always available. Like we're sitting there wondering, like
- 9:44Speaker 4: when is Paul Skiens gonna pitch and is he going
- 9:46Speaker 4: to come out of the pen on game three and
- 9:49Speaker 4: he's not in the spikes and he's warming up and
- 9:51Speaker 4: they put a towel over the camera like they're just
- 9:54Speaker 4: becomes so much more of having to figure it out
- 9:59Speaker 4: than if you win game one and game two. You basically,
- 10:02Speaker 4: especially like because it's different than Regionals because you had
- 10:04Speaker 4: the day off in between, can set your pitching up,
- 10:08Speaker 4: you know from the beginning.
- 10:10Speaker 3: But you're acting like you had a coworker that was
- 10:12Speaker 3: like trying to get information out of you. Last time
- 10:15Speaker 3: LSU was there and he was trying to ask, hey,
- 10:17Speaker 3: does Paul had his cleats on. Is Paul getting warm
- 10:21Speaker 3: or is he just moving around? You act like that happened.
- 10:23Speaker 4: Oh my god, it's so funny because like I have
- 10:26Speaker 4: access kind of wherever I can walk in the dugout
- 10:28Speaker 4: and we have this room in the back which is
- 10:31Speaker 4: basically for cages, but you know, pictures go up there
- 10:34Speaker 4: to warm up, and we have a camera in there,
- 10:37Speaker 4: like it's our camera that we're allowed to show on it.
- 10:39Speaker 4: And it started getting new like it started we put
- 10:42Speaker 4: it on air, and they must have gotten word, like
- 10:44Speaker 4: we're showing him warming up and stretching. Then they put
- 10:47Speaker 4: a towel over the camera and I want to be like,
- 10:49Speaker 4: you guys can't hide from me, like I'm here whether
- 10:53Speaker 4: you want to show it or not, like I'm watching
- 10:55Speaker 4: him stretch.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Oh man?
- 10:58Speaker 3: That who That was such great drama. And you know
- 11:01Speaker 3: this it was you know, our daughter Harlowe was being born.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Like during that College World series. I mean literally, Katie
- 11:08Speaker 3: is watching the Wake Force LSU game Tommy White hits
- 11:11Speaker 3: a walk off home run and she's like basically calls
- 11:14Speaker 3: the doctor out of the bullpen, like all right, you
- 11:15Speaker 3: can come in here time.
- 11:17Speaker 2: We're ready to go Harlowe's born.
- 11:18Speaker 3: So we're watching that whole College World Series from the hospital,
- 11:22Speaker 3: so just incredible memories. And I'm sitting there trying to
- 11:24Speaker 3: figure out how Paul sk He's gonna pitch you. But
- 11:26Speaker 3: thank you for LSU. He didn't have to go in
- 11:28Speaker 3: that game.
- 11:29Speaker 6: That's true.
- 11:29Speaker 4: And I'll say this like I know my audience and
- 11:32Speaker 4: talking to people from Louisiana, but on the other side,
- 11:34Speaker 4: and it's for Arkansas. Like Dave Van Horne is a
- 11:39Speaker 4: wonderful guy. He's the guy that, like, you know, there's
- 11:42Speaker 4: so many people underneath him that have gone on to
- 11:45Speaker 4: do great things, like at Tony Bytello and to be
- 11:49Speaker 4: where he's at and had to not win a national championship,
- 11:53Speaker 4: you know, it feels a little bit, you know, like
- 11:55Speaker 4: we were talking Houston and Kelvin Sampson during basketball season,
- 11:59Speaker 4: like to be so close so many times and not
- 12:01Speaker 4: have won one and he's been number one overall, like
- 12:04Speaker 4: the year they had Kevin Cops, you know, like that
- 12:06Speaker 4: was the year that they were supposed to win, and
- 12:08Speaker 4: like this is the team that maybe hasn't been the
- 12:11Speaker 4: most serialeded and they've just gotten better and better and better.
- 12:14Speaker 4: And so is this the year that the DVH finally
- 12:17Speaker 4: wins one, that would be pretty cool for him.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it is certainly like with his resume
- 12:22Speaker 3: what he's done to your point to be a fly
- 12:24Speaker 3: ball away, like you catch it, you win it, and
- 12:26Speaker 3: then you don't end up winning it. I mean, certainly
- 12:29Speaker 3: like somebody like him with his resume. It's almost that
- 12:32Speaker 3: deal though, okb It's like, is it inevitable that it
- 12:35Speaker 3: is going to happen? Or are they the Buffalo Bills
- 12:37Speaker 3: and they're gonna go oh for four in the Super
- 12:39Speaker 3: Bowl and they're just never going to win one. And
- 12:41Speaker 3: you just thought it's like Dann Marino got to the
- 12:44Speaker 3: super Bowl in his second year and you're like, Dan
- 12:46Speaker 3: will be back at like seven more super Bowls.
- 12:48Speaker 2: He never gets back.
- 12:49Speaker 3: So it's at that point where it's like, I think
- 12:51Speaker 3: it's gonna happen eventually because he's too good not to.
- 12:54Speaker 3: But we've seen him play out in sports before where
- 12:57Speaker 3: whatever reason, that last final out, twenty seventh out just
- 13:01Speaker 3: continues to be so far away you can't even grab it.
- 13:04Speaker 4: Yeah, being in twenty seven outs, you did ask, like
- 13:07Speaker 4: my one super regional watching the end of Game one
- 13:12Speaker 4: Florida State Oregon State, that might have been the most
- 13:16Speaker 4: like they were down to their last strike, able to
- 13:19Speaker 4: come back and tie that thing and win it in
- 13:21Speaker 4: the tenth. Which is funny because I just thought about
- 13:23Speaker 4: this when you mentioned twenty seven minch Kanam has a
- 13:26Speaker 4: has a that they do every day. Word it's called
- 13:30Speaker 4: twenty seven outs, and you got to get twenty seven outs,
- 13:34Speaker 4: you know, rather before you guys can actually start practicing,
- 13:37Speaker 4: start vp a twenty seven out.
- 13:40Speaker 3: It's a hard one to get, it is, and then
- 13:43Speaker 3: look when you've got one hundred push ups on air
- 13:46Speaker 3: on the line. If Oregon State does not win, you
- 13:49Speaker 3: are watching that very closely. And it's it's wild EJ
- 13:54Speaker 3: wasn't at work on Monday.
- 13:56Speaker 2: You wouldn't at work on Monday?
- 13:57Speaker 4: Me about that?
- 13:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it was on the schedule, but he wouldn't it
- 14:00Speaker 2: work on Monday. kV. I don't know what happened.
- 14:02Speaker 4: There, not sure, but that's I mean, like you think
- 14:05Speaker 4: about dis Field and Omaha. It's, first of all, it's
- 14:07Speaker 4: crazy that none of the teams that were there last
- 14:09Speaker 4: year are back this year, right, And you know, we
- 14:12Speaker 4: were wondering about Oregon State and how they were going
- 14:15Speaker 4: to be able to do this as an independent for
- 14:17Speaker 4: Mitch Caanam. There's three coaches in this field that have
- 14:20Speaker 4: played and won a World Series, So that's pretty crazy.
- 14:24Speaker 6: You know.
- 14:25Speaker 4: Mitch did it for two years under Pat Kelsey. He
- 14:27Speaker 4: takes over this team and they go and they play
- 14:29Speaker 4: only nineteen home games all during the regular season to
- 14:32Speaker 4: put together a schedule because they didn't want to be
- 14:34Speaker 4: part of the WCC. They were never going to have
- 14:36Speaker 4: the RPI. You kind of stopped from the outside looking in,
- 14:39Speaker 4: You're never going to be able to do this. Who's
- 14:41Speaker 4: going to want to come to core Vallis in the
- 14:43Speaker 4: middle of conference season? And they made it work. I mean,
- 14:47Speaker 4: like of all the storylines, the Murray States and Dan
- 14:50Speaker 4: Skirka who mowed their own field and Coastal getting back, like,
- 14:54Speaker 4: it's just it's it's shaping up to be pretty cool,
- 14:58Speaker 4: certainly is in.
- 15:00Speaker 3: I can't wait to watch it all play out real
- 15:02Speaker 3: quick though. If it's not LSU or Arkansas, who's the
- 15:06Speaker 3: third team that you think can win it all?
- 15:08Speaker 4: Ooh, Ucla looks really good over the postseason. But I'm
- 15:15Speaker 4: gonna say Oregon State. I have a believe in this game.
- 15:18Speaker 4: I do think like you learn some things when this
- 15:20Speaker 4: team's on the road and they've had to play on
- 15:23Speaker 4: the road. They've been battle tested, so I would say
- 15:26Speaker 4: Oregon State.
- 15:27Speaker 3: All right, there she is Chris Budden, colleague at sirius XM.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Does a fantastic job for ESPN. Gonna be on that
- 15:33Speaker 3: LSU Arkansas call this weekend coming up. They're in o
- 15:36Speaker 3: Them Hall for the College World Series.
- 15:38Speaker 2: KB. We appreciate the time as always, and we'll catch
- 15:40Speaker 2: up again soon.
- 15:41Speaker 4: Feeling thanks sake.
- 15:42Speaker 3: All right, there she is Chris Budden good enough to
- 15:44Speaker 3: join us, and uh, man, that is true. Like Katie
- 15:47Speaker 3: and I were in the hospital, like Paul Skeens is
- 15:50Speaker 3: kind of warming up. I'm like, hey, I need you
- 15:52Speaker 3: to find out like does he have spikes on? Is
- 15:56Speaker 3: he like warming up because he's bored or is he
- 15:58Speaker 3: warming up because he might be going in the game.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Like I was trying to get the inside information and uh,
- 16:03Speaker 3: I'm be trying to get that inside information again depending
- 16:06Speaker 3: on what the situation is for l s U. Uh thirdeam.
- 16:12Speaker 3: If it's not elish in Arkansas, I'm going coastal. Final answer,
- 16:16Speaker 3: that's that's kind of the team. The oh look at US. Yeah, yeah,
- 16:22Speaker 3: roosters showna clears again, clears to clears.
- 16:25Speaker 6: You go to Seawna clears. Yeah, you go to Auburn
- 16:29Speaker 6: and punch them right in the mouth, punch them right
- 16:32Speaker 6: in the mouth as the underdog. Yeah yeah, So I'm
- 16:36Speaker 6: all in on Well I'm not all in the thirteen.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know what you're saying. It's okay,
- 16:42Speaker 3: I'll back you up here.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Uh.
- 16:44Speaker 3: And also like when you look at what Coast was
- 16:47Speaker 3: able to do to even to get to that position.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Remember they win their opening game against Fairfield, like, okay, whatever,
- 16:55Speaker 3: but then they beat East Carolina eighteen to seven. After
- 16:59Speaker 3: East Carolin and beat Florida, and then they beat East
- 17:02Speaker 3: Carolina again. So I mean total dominant performance in regional play,
- 17:07Speaker 3: super regional play. I believe it's Coastal in Arkansas. I
- 17:11Speaker 3: know have not lost the game yet. LSU's only lost
- 17:15Speaker 3: one game, but UCLA well was UCLA's final tally. I
- 17:21Speaker 3: believe they haven't lost the game either. So it's three
- 17:23Speaker 3: teams Arkansas, Coastal, UCLA have not lost the game yet
- 17:27Speaker 3: in postseason play.
- 17:28Speaker 2: So all right, we are going to take a break.
- 17:31Speaker 3: We've got Anthony Ronaldo joining US in about fifteen minutes
- 17:34Speaker 3: from now, certainly going to lean on his experience, omahall
- 17:38Speaker 3: what it's like to go all the way, go the distance,
- 17:41Speaker 3: staying there basically for two and a half weeks, and
- 17:44Speaker 3: just the mental physical fatigue that it takes, and also
- 17:47Speaker 3: get inside his mind when it comes to like ace
- 17:50Speaker 3: on ACE game like Arkansas and LSU are going to
- 17:53Speaker 3: have coming up on Saturday, and we'll have that for
- 17:55Speaker 3: you right here on ot Beat Dopter Ben Well, Well, well,
- 18:03Speaker 3: I am sure that the co host of this show
- 18:06Speaker 3: is probably already enjoyed.
- 18:08Speaker 2: An airport do sekis.
- 18:11Speaker 3: He's probably right now because his flight I think was
- 18:14Speaker 3: like at six forty five. He's probably enjoying an airplane
- 18:18Speaker 3: do skis. He's probably gonna land in some tropical location
- 18:23Speaker 3: in about an hour from now, and he's got a
- 18:25Speaker 3: couple options. He can pick up another airport do skis,
- 18:28Speaker 3: which is elite, or he can put his toes in
- 18:31Speaker 3: the sand at whatever fancy resort he's probably staying in
- 18:34Speaker 3: and he can have a beach do skis. But it's okay,
- 18:36Speaker 3: you know why, because well we can have studio do skis,
- 18:40Speaker 3: we can have tailgate do skis for the LSU baseball game.
- 18:43Speaker 3: So joke's on him, not on us. Sure he's gonna
- 18:46Speaker 3: send his pictures of an ice cold do skis on
- 18:49Speaker 3: the beach in an incredible location. We're not gonna be
- 18:51Speaker 3: jealous because we can go for dose as well. Matt,
- 18:54Speaker 3: You're not the only one that can enjoy do sekis,
- 18:56Speaker 3: drink responsibly, go for dose.
- 19:07Speaker 1: I don't want another pretty face. I don't locked in
- 19:11Speaker 1: on LSU football twenty four to seven. You're listening to
- 19:14Speaker 1: off the Bench waaste on you and your.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Beautiful crushing the ones in tuesdaday No big deal.
- 19:25Speaker 6: I know then, I don't know what made me want
- 19:28Speaker 6: to play this stuff, but like it's taking me so back.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Yeah, doing a great job as always, all right, Tay, Tay.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Let's see if you're doing a great job.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Let's see if you have this video ready to go,
- 19:41Speaker 3: and I'll let you intro because it's your cousin.
- 19:44Speaker 7: Yeah, cousin Bauer or just be as I like to
- 19:48Speaker 7: call him, the Bowers. Yeah, the l Shue tight end.
- 19:52Speaker 7: LSU gives out you know, every off season, whether it's workout, conditioning,
- 19:56Speaker 7: they combine it.
- 19:57Speaker 2: They call it the.
- 19:57Speaker 7: Freak of the week. And the first one of this
- 20:00Speaker 7: season goes to bower sharp.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Do you want Sounder?
- 20:05Speaker 6: Do we want? I mean I don't really know, you know,
- 20:08Speaker 6: I don't think we need doing.
- 20:11Speaker 2: You know. There you see him pulling a sled. There
- 20:15Speaker 2: you see him getting ready. Oh his name in led
- 20:19Speaker 2: do a sprint.
- 20:20Speaker 3: It looks like with a sports sports brawln I forget
- 20:24Speaker 3: what the catapult what they call it? Yeah, so he's
- 20:27Speaker 3: got the chain on there. You see it if you're
- 20:28Speaker 3: watching this on YouTube. L s U Football Freak of
- 20:31Speaker 3: the Weekend. The reason we play this video is because
- 20:36Speaker 3: that's going to be an important position for the old L.
- 20:38Speaker 2: S U Fighting Tigers.
- 20:40Speaker 3: You just lost a second round draft choice, a tight
- 20:43Speaker 3: end that had every single record possible for tight ends.
- 20:47Speaker 2: In school history. So you're losing a lot.
- 20:50Speaker 3: You're losing the biggest safety blanket that your quarterback, Gary
- 20:54Speaker 3: Nesmeyer had. If it was a crucial moment, eighty six
- 20:58Speaker 3: was probably going to get the football last year, all right.
- 21:01Speaker 3: So you're trying to replace somebody that was very productive
- 21:04Speaker 3: for you in the locker room on the field with
- 21:07Speaker 3: the quarterback, all right. So it's gonna be by committee.
- 21:11Speaker 3: We know you got trade as Green who is a
- 21:15Speaker 3: freak athlete. He played a lot of receiver last year.
- 21:18Speaker 3: They're trying to move him back. He's gonna be your
- 21:20Speaker 3: f right, He's gonna be the guy a la Antonio
- 21:23Speaker 3: gates Travis Kelcey in the slot trying to create that mismatch.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Is he going to have to do some blocking in
- 21:30Speaker 3: the run game to be effective? Absolutely? Does he need
- 21:34Speaker 3: to get better there? Absolutely? Right, he's a freshman. He
- 21:38Speaker 3: is somebody that has always been probably the point of
- 21:41Speaker 3: focus in the offense.
- 21:44Speaker 2: The role is gonna change. Is he up for the challenge?
- 21:47Speaker 2: Sounds like he is.
- 21:47Speaker 3: Every coach that you talk with talk about his off season,
- 21:51Speaker 3: what he's done to try to get ready.
- 21:53Speaker 2: All right, So then you got Boar Sharp, who's.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Coming over from Oklahoma's played a ton of football right
- 21:58Speaker 3: starts at the FCS level to Oklahoma. Now he's at LSU.
- 22:02Speaker 3: We're talking about somebody that is a red shirt senior.
- 22:05Speaker 3: He has been through the fire. He has played a
- 22:07Speaker 3: ton of plays. He is going to be your mixture, right,
- 22:10Speaker 3: He's going to be that guy that does a little
- 22:12Speaker 3: bit of everything. He's going to be a y, He's
- 22:15Speaker 3: gonna be an f He's going to move around. He's
- 22:17Speaker 3: going to have his hand in the dirt, probably gonna
- 22:19Speaker 3: line up at h back in play like a pseudo
- 22:22Speaker 3: fullback role, like that's going to be what he's asked
- 22:25Speaker 3: to do a little bit of everything. And then you've
- 22:28Speaker 3: got Donovan Green coming over junior transfer from Texas A
- 22:32Speaker 3: and m who he is going to be somebody certainly
- 22:34Speaker 3: that's going to fit more into that y role of
- 22:37Speaker 3: having his hand in the dirt, connected to the offensive
- 22:40Speaker 3: line kind of in line blocking.
- 22:43Speaker 2: So you've got somebody for everything.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Now it's on the coaching staff to be able to
- 22:48Speaker 3: make sure those three players are in the right situation
- 22:52Speaker 3: at the right time, but also not creating tendencies where
- 22:57Speaker 3: the defense can say, oh, man, well, if trade As
- 22:59Speaker 3: is here, this is gonna happen. If Sharp's here, this
- 23:02Speaker 3: is gonna happen. If Green's lined up there, the ball's
- 23:05Speaker 3: coming right behind him in a stretch lead or something.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Of that nature.
- 23:08Speaker 3: That's on the coaching staff to be able to put
- 23:11Speaker 3: them in position to succeed without creating those tendencies that
- 23:14Speaker 3: we always talk about. Now we know about trade As Green.
- 23:18Speaker 3: We saw what he could do throughout the season. We
- 23:20Speaker 3: saw what he could do in high school. We saw
- 23:21Speaker 3: what he did in the ball game. Cannot wait to
- 23:24Speaker 3: see him as a sophomore. We know a little bit
- 23:27Speaker 3: about sharp because we saw him the last game of
- 23:30Speaker 3: the regular season. I'm not talking about the past he
- 23:32Speaker 3: tried to throw and if we ever have him all in,
- 23:34Speaker 3: which I think that could happen next week, we're gonna
- 23:37Speaker 3: ask him about that. We're gonna ask him about the
- 23:41Speaker 3: pass he threw in that game. But we know who
- 23:43Speaker 3: he is because he's been a really good player in
- 23:45Speaker 3: multiple spots, played a long time for Donovan Green. He's
- 23:49Speaker 3: a little bit more of an unknown, okay, But all
- 23:51Speaker 3: I can tell you is when Jimbo Fisher was the
- 23:54Speaker 3: head coach at A and M, as a true freshman,
- 23:57Speaker 3: he played a lot, a lot of snaps. Now with
- 24:00Speaker 3: the new regime they come in Elko did not play
- 24:03Speaker 3: a lot as a sophomore.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Right.
- 24:05Speaker 3: I have been through Jimbo's offense. It's really hard. It
- 24:10Speaker 3: is a very difficult college offense.
- 24:12Speaker 2: It just is. There's a lot of nuances to it.
- 24:15Speaker 2: There's a lot of code words.
- 24:17Speaker 3: There's a lot of things that are very similar although
- 24:20Speaker 3: they mean something completely different. Him playing as much as
- 24:24Speaker 3: he did his freshman year tells me a lot. And
- 24:27Speaker 3: I asked Jimbo straight up. This news came across the wire.
- 24:30Speaker 3: I was doing radio with Jimbo on a Tuesday, and
- 24:32Speaker 3: I'm like, hey, give me the breakdown. He's like, oh,
- 24:34Speaker 3: he's a great player.
- 24:35Speaker 2: It's like, I.
- 24:35Speaker 3: Can't believe they did not use him more this year.
- 24:39Speaker 3: He's like, I trusted him like week three on and
- 24:42Speaker 3: if you know Jimbo, like we had him on right
- 24:45Speaker 3: and LSU fans y'all remember because he was a coordinator
- 24:47Speaker 3: here for a very long time.
- 24:48Speaker 2: For Jimbo to say that it's a lot.
- 24:51Speaker 3: Tight end is a position that outside of quarterback, Jimbo's
- 24:55Speaker 3: the hardest on. I don't like, I don't know why
- 24:58Speaker 3: that always happened, but every time that we had at LSU,
- 25:01Speaker 3: and like we could call up Keith Zinger, we could
- 25:05Speaker 3: call up David Jones, we could call up Easy E.
- 25:08Speaker 2: We could call up you.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Know, any like Dick Dixon, Like we call it any
- 25:11Speaker 3: and they'd be like, yeah, man, Jimmo was tough on us.
- 25:13Speaker 3: It was a position he was always hard on. So
- 25:16Speaker 3: all those things combine, right, because we know more about Sharp,
- 25:20Speaker 3: we know more about Green Trade es Green. Donovan Green
- 25:23Speaker 3: is somebody I'm highly intrigued with because.
- 25:26Speaker 2: We don't know as much.
- 25:28Speaker 3: But when you go back to his freshman year, when
- 25:30Speaker 3: you talk to the guy that brought him into school,
- 25:32Speaker 3: I think he's gonna be a pleasant surprise.
- 25:34Speaker 7: Yeah, I did too, And because of everything you just
- 25:37Speaker 7: said right, like the drop off in production year wonder
- 25:41Speaker 7: year two. But it was a different coaching staff and
- 25:43Speaker 7: when you signed him, a lot of people said, oh,
- 25:45Speaker 7: this guy is gonna be plugged in. He's gonna be
- 25:47Speaker 7: a yack hole. He's just gonna be a blocking tight end.
- 25:50Speaker 7: He's more than that. And then going back a little
- 25:53Speaker 7: bit to Bower Sharp, you were talking about, Okay, they
- 25:56Speaker 7: they got to not get into too much of a
- 25:57Speaker 7: tendency of this is going to happen, Like you go
- 26:00Speaker 7: back at spring, there's a lot of formations. Bower Sharp,
- 26:03Speaker 7: traded is Green on the field at the same time,
- 26:05Speaker 7: like that's something else.
- 26:07Speaker 2: She likes to do. And then you have JD.
- 26:09Speaker 7: Lafleur coming in freshman tight end six seven two sixty
- 26:14Speaker 7: three on the LSU roster, by the way, like that's
- 26:17Speaker 7: a big guy as well. You lose Mason Taylor but
- 26:20Speaker 7: I mean, Jake, top to bottom, this tight end room
- 26:23Speaker 7: could be better than it was a year ago.
- 26:25Speaker 2: No, I don't disagree with that. You were very thin
- 26:28Speaker 2: at that position. It's what we talked about.
- 26:29Speaker 3: We were talking about the other day in the expectation
- 26:32Speaker 3: for this team, and we were talking about the roster,
- 26:34Speaker 3: and I had some pushback on that, Like the roster
- 26:37Speaker 3: has always been loaded, the rosters had front end talent, yeah,
- 26:41Speaker 3: JD five Moleague BTJ Yeah. Sure, changing the game in
- 26:45Speaker 3: the NFL. I'm talking about what Taylor just said. None
- 26:50Speaker 3: of these tight ends are more complete than Mason Taylor.
- 26:53Speaker 3: I'm not gonna argue that, but in the totality of
- 26:56Speaker 3: the room, you have more pieces than you had a
- 26:59Speaker 3: year ago. Tight ends, one of the positions we're talking about,
- 27:02Speaker 3: you were uber thin there, right, and so now that
- 27:05Speaker 3: looks a little bit different, and I'm excited. I'm excited
- 27:08Speaker 3: about that position group and to see where it can
- 27:11Speaker 3: go in the future.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Where we're gonna go in the future.
- 27:14Speaker 3: I got Anthony Ronado was going to join us LSU
- 27:17Speaker 3: legend major League Baseball pitcher, gonna ask him a thousand
- 27:23Speaker 3: questions about trading cards, all that coming up when we
- 27:25Speaker 3: come back here on OTB off the bench, all right,
- 27:30Speaker 3: go to central Plumbing dot org. Cintral Plumbing dot Org

- 28:41Speaker 1: From the locker room to the Airwaves gets off the
- 28:44Speaker 1: bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Except my first, stupid.
- 28:51Speaker 3: First, All right, welcome back in OTB one oh four
- 28:53Speaker 3: five ESPN Baton Rouge, big boys.
- 28:57Speaker 2: Lady had it wrong.
- 28:57Speaker 3: It is not Matt Flynn, Anthony Nardo who joins us
- 29:00Speaker 3: here because LSU's going to Oma Hall. Let's go, let's
- 29:04Speaker 3: let's get excited about that. And nobody better to break
- 29:07Speaker 3: it down than our guy, Anthony. So I kind of look,
- 29:10Speaker 3: you told me what your schedule was. I'm like, ah,
- 29:13Speaker 3: I know where that's at. I'll close that. It's the studio.
- 29:16Speaker 3: I'm gonna need you to pop in.
- 29:17Speaker 2: If you can.
- 29:18Speaker 5: Well, dude, anytime you have me on here, it's an
- 29:20Speaker 5: honor first and foremost. And yeah, anytime we get to
- 29:22Speaker 5: chop it up about the tigers and there in Omaha,
- 29:24Speaker 5: it's a good thing.
- 29:24Speaker 2: So, man, I am so excited about it.
- 29:26Speaker 3: And we had you on before the West Virginia Super Regional,
- 29:30Speaker 3: and like, I don't know that any of us had
- 29:33Speaker 3: it on our bingo card to kind of work out
- 29:34Speaker 3: the way it did. LSHU scores sixteen runs in the
- 29:37Speaker 3: first game. They explode in the second game as well,
- 29:41Speaker 3: like you know, LSU starting pitching Kate Anderson, Anthony Jinsin,
- 29:44Speaker 3: it's like, okay, well you're gonna have five to three games.
- 29:47Speaker 3: The offense exploded, and really it's what we talked about,
- 29:51Speaker 3: like if LSU gets into trouble, sometimes it's when the
- 29:53Speaker 3: offense goes to sleep a little bit. But you look
- 29:55Speaker 3: the last three games, I mean going back to the
- 29:58Speaker 3: game seven against the Little Rock, I mean, the offense
- 30:00Speaker 3: and the little changes that Jay made in the lineup
- 30:03Speaker 3: certainly paying off absolutely.
- 30:04Speaker 5: And that's what you know we you guys asked me.
- 30:07Speaker 5: I think you were like, are they limping into the
- 30:09Speaker 5: super Region? I was like, I think they faced a
- 30:11Speaker 5: good team. They were hot, and this team knows how
- 30:13Speaker 5: to win, right, So they just did the things they
- 30:15Speaker 5: knew how to.
- 30:15Speaker 2: Do to win.
- 30:16Speaker 5: And just to your point, right, Kate Anderson hasn't given
- 30:19Speaker 5: up five or six runs this year, so like, what
- 30:21Speaker 5: do you have to do to win?
- 30:22Speaker 2: You got to outscore the other team, right, and that's
- 30:23Speaker 2: what they did.
- 30:24Speaker 5: So and that's what I've seen all year, Like if
- 30:27Speaker 5: they need to score sixteen, they've done it, you know.
- 30:30Speaker 5: And then in the games that they need to just
- 30:32Speaker 5: do what they need.
- 30:32Speaker 2: To do, they do it. So yeah, that's a good
- 30:34Speaker 2: quality team.
- 30:35Speaker 3: So we had Jay Mitchell in yesterday and he brought
- 30:39Speaker 3: something up that I was like, you know what, that's
- 30:40Speaker 3: that's gonna be perfect for Anthony tomorrow.
- 30:43Speaker 2: He's like, I'm not saying that.
- 30:44Speaker 3: Kay was not going out there and trying to get
- 30:46Speaker 3: everybody out and strike people loud and not allow runs.
- 30:48Speaker 2: He goes. But for a starting pitcher, it is different.
- 30:51Speaker 3: When you had this big lead, It's like the last
- 30:53Speaker 3: thing that you want to do is get free passes. Yeah,
- 30:55Speaker 3: and so he was obviously throwing more in the zone
- 30:57Speaker 3: maybe than he would have normally.
- 30:59Speaker 5: And to me, that is definition of a good picture, right,
- 31:01Speaker 5: or a good starter too, is understanding your role. So
- 31:04Speaker 5: one thing that I was taught and that I always
- 31:06Speaker 5: took to heart as a starting pitcher was your job
- 31:09Speaker 5: when you leave the game is to make sure we
- 31:11Speaker 5: are in a position to win or ideally winning, right,
- 31:14Speaker 5: And that's what he has done all year long. So
- 31:16Speaker 5: the situation determines that in games where we're only scoring
- 31:19Speaker 5: one run and we're facing a Friday ace, you know,
- 31:22Speaker 5: I got to be on my stuff and I got
- 31:23Speaker 5: to make sure I'm not allowing any in games where
- 31:26Speaker 5: the offense is on and I just sat in the
- 31:27Speaker 5: dugout for an hour. I want to get these guys
- 31:29Speaker 5: back in the dugout. I want the fans back, you know.
- 31:31Speaker 5: So I'm throwing fastballs down the middle until they can
- 31:34Speaker 5: prove they're going to put a bunch of runs together
- 31:36Speaker 5: and beat me. Like, I'll let them pop up, I'll
- 31:38Speaker 5: let them get out. You have VP like hitters get
- 31:40Speaker 5: themselves out all the time. So that's kind of the concept.
- 31:42Speaker 3: Yeah, And so last time Kate faced this Arkansas lineup,
- 31:46Speaker 3: I mean he only gave up three runs, strikes out ten,
- 31:48Speaker 3: only walks one. So as a starting pitcher, like, what
- 31:51Speaker 3: would your mindset be if you're going against a team
- 31:54Speaker 3: that you had a lot of success against, certainly a
- 31:56Speaker 3: quality start the first time that you face them, and it.
- 31:59Speaker 2: Was what it was about a month ago? Yeah, it
- 32:02Speaker 2: wasn't It wasn't crazy long ago.
- 32:04Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 32:05Speaker 5: So I'm basically gonna go back on film, right, I'm
- 32:07Speaker 5: probably gonna look First of all, I'm gonna watch the
- 32:10Speaker 5: game and just feel it honestly and just be remind
- 32:12Speaker 5: myself put my mindset out there. Then I'm gonna go
- 32:14Speaker 5: through the lineup and probably take some notes of like
- 32:17Speaker 5: how I pitch certain guys. Then what I'm gonna do
- 32:19Speaker 5: is really watch their last weekend and see and match up.
- 32:22Speaker 5: Are these guys still taking the same approach as they
- 32:25Speaker 5: did against me? Is the batting order the same? Are
- 32:27Speaker 5: the same guys hot as they were a month ago?
- 32:29Speaker 2: Right?
- 32:30Speaker 5: So there's a lot of different things, But for the
- 32:32Speaker 5: most part, I'm looking at my success against them, and
- 32:34Speaker 5: then what are they doing in the current moment, and
- 32:36Speaker 5: how can I Do I need to manipulate anything, Do
- 32:38Speaker 5: I gotta change anything?
- 32:39Speaker 2: Should I stick with the same plan? That kind of stuff.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Oh, man, I see it gives me nerves because like
- 32:43Speaker 3: in football we always called that chasing ghost.
- 32:45Speaker 2: It's like, okay, like am I over preparing for this? Like?
- 32:48Speaker 3: Am I overthinking this because I played this team, you
- 32:52Speaker 3: know at the end of September, we're here in the
- 32:53Speaker 3: middle of November, we're playing them again. Like am I
- 32:56Speaker 3: worrying about too much? And it's like you're preparing, You're
- 32:59Speaker 3: doing what you're supposed to be doing, but it's like
- 33:01Speaker 3: am I doing too much? Like that that comes into
- 33:03Speaker 3: your mindset absolutely, and sometimes when you're on the mound.
- 33:05Speaker 2: Dude.
- 33:05Speaker 5: I can't tell you how many times I have prepared
- 33:08Speaker 5: and been like, oh so I thought my curve bow
- 33:09Speaker 5: is going to be here today. Don't have that, you know,
- 33:11Speaker 5: So it's like, all right, you got to adjust. So
- 33:13Speaker 5: that's what you know at the end of the day.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:15Speaker 3: See, that gives me night sweats, the fact that, like, man,
- 33:18Speaker 3: last time I faced them, like the all speed stuff
- 33:21Speaker 3: it got them every time.
- 33:21Speaker 5: And I'm trying to throw. It's like, that's not breaking
- 33:24Speaker 5: out there, that's not moving the same way that it
- 33:26Speaker 5: was last time. Yeah, exactly, No, But that's but to
- 33:28Speaker 5: me again, that that's what was the fun part about pitching,
- 33:31Speaker 5: was like, all right, you got to go figure this
- 33:33Speaker 5: out now, you only you don't have a choice, right,
- 33:34Speaker 5: And so the best ones figured it out and they
- 33:36Speaker 5: figure out a way to stay out there and and
- 33:38Speaker 5: get the outs that they need to get to get
- 33:40Speaker 5: so the way the bullpen doesn't come in early.
- 33:41Speaker 2: Yeah, it was. It was definitely a little challenge on
- 33:44Speaker 2: the mind sometimes.
- 33:45Speaker 3: I Mean I always like use the saying like lonely
- 33:48Speaker 3: on the dance floor. That's what I feel like. A
- 33:51Speaker 3: starting pitcher is like you literally the mounds your dance floor.
- 33:54Speaker 3: You're out there, you're trying to get the vibe going,
- 33:56Speaker 3: and you're just dancing with yourself.
- 33:57Speaker 5: It can be join literally, it can be the loneliest
- 34:01Speaker 5: spot on planet Earth. I think it's like the movie
- 34:04Speaker 5: for Love of the Game where he's like it's the
- 34:05Speaker 5: loneliest or something like it's the loneliest spot on.
- 34:08Speaker 2: Earth or whatever. Yeah, And it really can be when
- 34:10Speaker 2: it's when it's dark.
- 34:11Speaker 3: It certainly can can feel like that just from the
- 34:13Speaker 3: outside looking in, speaking of the LSU pitching staff outside
- 34:18Speaker 3: of cad And and we'll get to Anthony Iinson, but
- 34:22Speaker 3: like going through super Regionals and never having to have
- 34:25Speaker 3: Caseen Evans or Zach Cowan step on the mound. All right,
- 34:29Speaker 3: So I like, again my novice baseball mind, thinking, okay,
- 34:32Speaker 3: that's a good thing, Like those guys gonna be rested,
- 34:34Speaker 3: ready to go, or do you think maybe, like, hey,
- 34:38Speaker 3: you got a big lead, Hey.
- 34:39Speaker 2: Let's that go out there for an inning.
- 34:40Speaker 3: He's been struggling a little bit, certainly to his standard,
- 34:43Speaker 3: Like let him go out there, let him maybe get
- 34:45Speaker 3: the ninth inning against West Virginia and get some of
- 34:47Speaker 3: that confidence back.
- 34:48Speaker 5: I thought it was I lived the last three innings,
- 34:50Speaker 5: I was like, he's going Cohen or Evans right, Like,
- 34:55Speaker 5: I just was like waiting for it. So again, I
- 34:57Speaker 5: don't know what Jay's mindset is. And this is the
- 34:59Speaker 5: thing that fans we always forget.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Right.
- 35:01Speaker 5: The team knows what's going on. They know why those
- 35:03Speaker 5: guys did or didn't pitch in those situations. They might
- 35:06Speaker 5: be nursing a little something that we don't know about
- 35:08Speaker 5: and they don't want anybody to know about. You know,
- 35:09Speaker 5: you know how many times that happens and it's nothing major,
- 35:12Speaker 5: but the media would probably blow it out of proportion, right,
- 35:14Speaker 5: So I from the outside looking in, you would think
- 35:17Speaker 5: they would want to get the work and not go
- 35:19Speaker 5: two weeks without throwing, you know, especially relievers guys who
- 35:22Speaker 5: are like one inn guys, two and in guys.
- 35:24Speaker 2: But I don't know, we'll see.
- 35:26Speaker 5: I would have liked to see them get the work,
- 35:28Speaker 5: especially Caseen Evans, who was kind of stretched out a
- 35:30Speaker 5: little longer and we might need him for three innings,
- 35:32Speaker 5: five innings. He might need to start a game, right,
- 35:34Speaker 5: so I would have liked to not see him go
- 35:36Speaker 5: that long.
- 35:37Speaker 2: But again, we don't know what's going on. But it's
- 35:39Speaker 2: a long season.
- 35:39Speaker 3: All right, So if you don't go in that situation,
- 35:42Speaker 3: what's those two guys like? In particularly, I absolutely like
- 35:45Speaker 3: a hell shoot if they if they win to a
- 35:47Speaker 3: World Series, it's going to be like those two.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Guys have to be involved.
- 35:50Speaker 3: Like what would their workload probably be like since they
- 35:53Speaker 3: didn't throw in there?
- 35:55Speaker 5: If it were me, if I were Evans and I
- 35:57Speaker 5: had to make sure that I was going to be
- 35:59Speaker 5: available to stretch out, I probably would have told Jay, Hey, Monday, Sorry,
- 36:03Speaker 5: I know we won a regional, but I need batters.
- 36:05Speaker 5: I need I need to go and simulate three innings
- 36:08Speaker 5: and we need to get I need to get up
- 36:09Speaker 5: and down. I need to throw and feel like I'm
- 36:12Speaker 5: exerting myself a little bit, you know, and everything just that.
- 36:14Speaker 5: That's what I probably would have done. And maybe they'll
- 36:16Speaker 5: do it midweek, maybe depending on the schedule and how
- 36:19Speaker 5: it came out. And again I don't know what it
- 36:21Speaker 5: looks like down the road. You know, Jay probably has
- 36:23Speaker 5: that all mapped out and planned out and so he
- 36:26Speaker 5: knows a lot better. But that's what I would probably be, like,
- 36:29Speaker 5: I need to face batters, get me up and down.
- 36:31Speaker 2: I need to throw.
- 36:31Speaker 3: Yeah, Like one thing that I do think they probably
- 36:34Speaker 3: got though with not using Evans our cow is probably
- 36:38Speaker 3: like the confidence that Cooper Williams probably got from going
- 36:42Speaker 3: out there.
- 36:43Speaker 2: What did he go two and two thirds?
- 36:44Speaker 3: I think he only gave up one hit and you know,
- 36:47Speaker 3: obviously the home run, but like he gives up one
- 36:48Speaker 3: hit and then Chayse Shores comes in and absolutely slams.
- 36:52Speaker 2: The door shut as well.
- 36:53Speaker 3: Like so for those two players, probably gives him uber
- 36:56Speaker 3: confidence as well going into them all. So that's like
- 36:58Speaker 3: an added benefit of those guys going absolutely.
- 37:01Speaker 2: I mean, Jay threw Cooper right into the fire because
- 37:04Speaker 2: I didn't expect Cooper Williams to the bullpen at all. Literally.
- 37:07Speaker 5: I mean, I know he stretched out a little bit
- 37:09Speaker 5: in the regional and pitched some big innings, right, But
- 37:11Speaker 5: to me, this is what is the most fun part
- 37:13Speaker 5: of the year. We were talking about it last time,
- 37:16Speaker 5: but there's always a reliever, a guy that steps up,
- 37:19Speaker 5: somebody that pitches in a big role that you were like,
- 37:21Speaker 5: oh my god, I didn't know who that guy was,
- 37:22Speaker 5: develops a name for himself, right, And I think that's
- 37:24Speaker 5: what Cooper Williams did, was he came in a huge
- 37:27Speaker 5: situation that in that fourth inning or whatever inning it
- 37:30Speaker 5: was that he came in. It was such a make
- 37:32Speaker 5: or break moment. It was we were either going to
- 37:34Speaker 5: blow that game open and like be able to separate,
- 37:37Speaker 5: or they were going to come back. That was going
- 37:38Speaker 5: to happen, right, And so he pitched critical moments, critical innings.
- 37:43Speaker 5: He made huge pitches for him to command his fastball
- 37:46Speaker 5: the way that he did as a true freshman coming
- 37:48Speaker 5: from the left side ninety one ninety two. I was impressed.
- 37:50Speaker 5: I thought it was awesome.
- 37:51Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, and then Chay Shortes comes in, closes the
- 37:53Speaker 3: door and you would be able to speak to this
- 37:56Speaker 3: way better than I.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Like I just my sport.
- 37:58Speaker 3: You don't have Tommy John surgery have arm injuries, right,
- 38:01Speaker 3: and you always hear it's like, okay, when you first
- 38:04Speaker 3: come back, there's there's things that mentally also going in
- 38:08Speaker 3: your mind and you're not quite to where you were,
- 38:10Speaker 3: and we all just assume, like in football, like guy
- 38:12Speaker 3: Terrace at acl comes back like we expect him to
- 38:14Speaker 3: be full speed right now, let's go. In baseball, it's
- 38:16Speaker 3: a little bit different, and it does feel like Chase
- 38:18Speaker 3: is getting to that point now of the guy that
- 38:20Speaker 3: we knew before he heard hisself absolutely.
- 38:22Speaker 5: And I mean somebody a Ben McDonald made a good
- 38:25Speaker 5: point on air the other day, Right, it's really like
- 38:28Speaker 5: he's a freshman. He's in his true freshman year experience wise,
- 38:31Speaker 5: because innings, the amount of innings as a starter, he's
- 38:34Speaker 5: really just getting to that number now, right, eighty ninety
- 38:36Speaker 5: career innings something like that. So when you're coming off
- 38:39Speaker 5: Tom of John and then throwing that he's six nine,
- 38:41Speaker 5: do when I tell you, I'm six seven, and it's
- 38:42Speaker 5: really it's hard to control my body on the mound
- 38:45Speaker 5: and make adjustments. Yeah, when you take twelve to fourteen
- 38:47Speaker 5: months off and you're throwing one hundred and you're sixty nine,
- 38:51Speaker 5: like there you gotta there's a lot of things going on.
- 38:53Speaker 5: So I think what we saw from Chase that night
- 38:55Speaker 5: was everything clicking, and when it is good, that's what
- 38:59Speaker 5: you're buying.
- 38:59Speaker 2: Right.
- 38:59Speaker 5: So again, if if a team sees that too, there's
- 39:03Speaker 5: no reason he can't get three million dollars in the draft.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Like, honestly, like, he's that good.
- 39:07Speaker 3: If I'm watching the other night, I'm like, yep, yep,
- 39:09Speaker 3: because that guy, Yeah.
- 39:11Speaker 5: And I literally saw it happening. I'm like, I'm watching
- 39:13Speaker 5: his like last pitch of warm ups, and I've watched
- 39:16Speaker 5: baseball enough and big guys enough.
- 39:18Speaker 2: I'm like, he's on time. It looks good like.
- 39:20Speaker 5: And then when he's not, you know, and he's ganking
- 39:22Speaker 5: balls and it's like he's skipping him, I'm.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Like, oh boy, this is this is this is right,
- 39:26Speaker 2: this is where he needs to be.
- 39:28Speaker 3: Yeah, and certainly, I mean another guy that LSU is
- 39:29Speaker 3: going to count on in Omaha. Can't wait to see
- 39:32Speaker 3: like what all the different roles are going to be
- 39:33Speaker 3: for j because as we know, I mean, Jay is
- 39:35Speaker 3: going to push and pull every lever that he has
- 39:38Speaker 3: to there in Omaha. So all right, we got Anthony
- 39:41Speaker 3: for a couple more sevens. Excided to kind of go
- 39:43Speaker 3: through the grind of what Omaha truly is, because if
- 39:46Speaker 3: you make a run all the way to the end,
- 39:47Speaker 3: you're there for like two and a half weeks, and
- 39:49Speaker 3: that is a long time to live out of a suitcase.
- 39:52Speaker 3: We'll do all that when we jump back here on
- 39:54Speaker 3: OTB Off the bench, all right, go to trash rangers
- 39:59Speaker 3: dot com. Trash rangers dot com is the website where
- 40:01Speaker 3: you can sign up for residential service, commercial service, and
- 40:05Speaker 3: also those rolloff dumpsters we tell about every single day, Like,
- 40:08Speaker 3: let's talk about the trash pickup though reliable, hassle free,
- 40:12Speaker 3: they're gonna be able to you know, do it at
- 40:15Speaker 3: different times as well. Right, some of those holidays that
- 40:18Speaker 3: we talk about where you miss trash for like two
- 40:20Speaker 3: weeks and all of a sudden.
- 40:21Speaker 2: It piles up.
- 40:22Speaker 3: Like they're gonna give you exactly what holidays they can
- 40:24Speaker 3: pick up, and if they don't pick up on that
- 40:26Speaker 3: actual holiday, they're not going to just miss your trash.
- 40:28Speaker 3: They're going to make sure it gets scheduled for that week.
- 40:31Speaker 3: And so reliable weekly service text reminders. How many times
- 40:35Speaker 3: you've forgotten to put out the trash and then you
- 40:37Speaker 3: get home and you're in trouble, Right, trash Rangers make
- 40:40Speaker 3: sure that you're not going to get in trouble because
- 40:42Speaker 3: you got that text reminder, Hey.
- 40:44Speaker 2: Pal, go put out the trash.
- 40:45Speaker 3: Can uh, You can go to the website again trash
- 40:48Speaker 3: rangers dot com for all that information, but give them
- 40:49Speaker 3: a call. Roll Off dumpsters three sizes to choose from.
- 40:52Speaker 3: They're gonna make sure you have the right one, two, two, five, three, six,
- 40:54Speaker 3: three nine zero five to three.
- 41:05Speaker 7: Yeah, I've been waiting on me.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Forday, talk to me.
- 41:14Speaker 1: We have gone from players to legends. Hester and Flynn
- 41:18Speaker 1: breakdown LSU football like only champions can.
- 41:22Speaker 2: It's just fun guy they keep talking about, right, that
- 41:26Speaker 2: is I guess he was good at football, though for
- 41:30Speaker 2: as you're saying that, not me.
- 41:32Speaker 3: Uh And there is that voice you hear there here
- 41:35Speaker 3: with us for a couple of segments. All right, let's
- 41:37Speaker 3: talk about the grind of Omahall, because like we hear
- 41:41Speaker 3: fans talk about the grind of boot ball, like one second,
- 41:43Speaker 3: we hear commentators talk about the grind of Omahall. What
- 41:46Speaker 3: about as a player, when you've made that run, you've
- 41:50Speaker 3: gone as far as you possibly can, you go to
- 41:52Speaker 3: the championship Series and you've been there for two.
- 41:54Speaker 5: Weeks, it feels like you're like, we are residents of
- 41:58Speaker 5: Omaha one percent. I know exactly, like the streets, the restaurants,
- 42:01Speaker 5: I know, people like it was.
- 42:02Speaker 2: It really was.
- 42:03Speaker 5: And but again I think it's such a testament to
- 42:06Speaker 5: LSU fans too, just to see how many people were
- 42:09Speaker 5: really out there for two weeks with us, two plus weeks. Luckily,
- 42:12Speaker 5: when you know nine we were in the embassy suite,
- 42:14Speaker 5: so it was a really nice It was a nice setup.
- 42:16Speaker 5: We were right downtown, so we had a good We
- 42:18Speaker 5: had a good setup, and uh, you know, it was
- 42:21Speaker 5: one of those ones where you had like a dual
- 42:22Speaker 5: room almost too, like a living room.
- 42:24Speaker 2: So yeah, it was It.
- 42:25Speaker 5: Wasn't as bad as it sounded. Yeah, and when you're winning,
- 42:27Speaker 5: it's a lot better. We were in the Winter's bracket undefeated,
- 42:30Speaker 5: and so we had a couple of days off at
- 42:32Speaker 5: one point.
- 42:32Speaker 3: But you're just do you go watch any of the
- 42:34Speaker 3: games when you're not playing, or you're like, I'm getting
- 42:36Speaker 3: away from it.
- 42:37Speaker 2: I don't even want to see that stadium right now.
- 42:39Speaker 5: Yeah, we stayed away from the stadium especially it's so crazy.
- 42:42Speaker 5: It is so hot in oh My High this time
- 42:44Speaker 5: of year. I don't know why, but it's crazy and
- 42:46Speaker 5: we play all year here and you think you're fine.
- 42:48Speaker 5: But so, yeah, we would be watching indoors and and
- 42:51Speaker 5: things like that. But we watched the games for sure.
- 42:53Speaker 2: Card games, different things probably going on inside those rooms, yes, exactly.
- 42:57Speaker 5: Yeah, and back then there were radio games, yeah, like exactly, yeah,
- 43:00Speaker 5: we're watching It was like the first time you could
- 43:01Speaker 5: watch a DVD on like PlayStation.
- 43:03Speaker 2: So we were watching DVDs on.
- 43:04Speaker 3: P uh yeah a DVD Launda and Taylor, is this
- 43:09Speaker 3: thing that used to be a CD because.
- 43:11Speaker 2: You kidding we have vhs.
- 43:15Speaker 6: Is growing up, you know, on the physical media.
- 43:19Speaker 7: I'll be I'll be twenty nine in September.
- 43:21Speaker 2: He grew up?
- 43:22Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't know if you grew up
- 43:25Speaker 3: because no, I did.
- 43:26Speaker 2: Like your parents were just like dvdscu she said, she recorded,
- 43:32Speaker 2: So that's the.
- 43:33Speaker 6: Real girl to record stuff on a VHS.
- 43:35Speaker 3: And you did you ever mess up and recorded like
- 43:37Speaker 3: an episode over like very important childhood video?
- 43:42Speaker 2: How many? Oh my god, miss labeled you grab the
- 43:45Speaker 2: wrong one.
- 43:46Speaker 6: So my mom and dad were like huge Spanish soap
- 43:49Speaker 6: opera people, like they would watch Spanish soap operas.
- 43:52Speaker 2: Every week and it's their stories.
- 43:54Speaker 6: Yeah, their stories, and I like recorded over one one
- 43:58Speaker 6: time and it was the end of the world. You
- 44:00Speaker 6: were so angry.
- 44:03Speaker 5: Was exactly that. People don't know that struggle. I feel
- 44:05Speaker 5: like the young kids nowadays, it's.
- 44:07Speaker 7: They didn't DVDs didn't really become popping in the til
- 44:09Speaker 7: I was about eight, about eight or nine. I remember
- 44:12Speaker 7: when they came in, Like I remember, like my mom
- 44:14Speaker 7: would rewind the VHS like four, she's like, hey, call me.
- 44:17Speaker 7: When you hear the click is when you hear the click,
- 44:19Speaker 7: it was completely rewound and it makes sense.
- 44:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I always talk about the cassette tapes when you
- 44:23Speaker 3: try to record something before you could burn a CD,
- 44:27Speaker 3: like you'd put the you know, you go to Sam Goodie,
- 44:29Speaker 3: you get like a pack of three and you put
- 44:31Speaker 3: it in. And the only way you could record music
- 44:34Speaker 3: and have what you want was if it came on
- 44:35Speaker 3: the radio, and like you record what was on the radio,
- 44:38Speaker 3: and so like you never caught the beginning of your
- 44:40Speaker 3: song right because you.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Realize it and.
- 44:43Speaker 3: Then you jump over your bed and you had to
- 44:45Speaker 3: hit what was it playing record at the same time
- 44:48Speaker 3: be able to record on the cassette tape.
- 44:50Speaker 2: It's like you never got the first seven seconds of
- 44:53Speaker 2: the song.
- 44:55Speaker 6: Like ring tones on the cell phone whenever like before, well,
- 44:59Speaker 6: I wouldn't be able to buy because my parents would
- 45:00Speaker 6: be like, you're not paid anything sense for a ring.
- 45:02Speaker 2: Think about that. Think how much money was spent on
- 45:04Speaker 2: ring tones? Now much money a ring back?
- 45:06Speaker 3: Not a single not a single person keeps herself on
- 45:10Speaker 3: on ring Yeah, and you used to spend money on
