- 0:52Speaker 1: very very shortly. What have you got to this morning, keV?
- 0:55Speaker 3: Well, I had a really busy show on Thursday.
- 0:59Speaker 2: I had a guest.
- 1:00Speaker 3: It's just I didn't do any local sports, so I
- 1:02Speaker 3: got loads really, but I really want to focus on
- 1:05Speaker 3: the on the interview. I was on the mic at
- 1:08Speaker 3: the FoST for ten mile races and on my word,
- 1:12Speaker 3: the wind was so strong.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Yeah, you look like he was being blown out.
- 1:15Speaker 3: Oh yeah, it was good.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it was.
- 1:18Speaker 3: They had five miles of heaven running out and then
- 1:20Speaker 3: they turn round into a brick walk. I'm going to
- 1:24Speaker 3: do a little round up. Hockey finished last week, so
- 1:27Speaker 3: I've got the kind of round up of all the
- 1:30Speaker 3: teams and where they finished in the league, and I
- 1:33Speaker 3: don't know anything else I could squeeze it really at
- 1:35Speaker 3: the time.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, it's going to be a tight hour today.
- 1:38Speaker 1: We've got fifty seven minutes left of that hour. We've
- 1:41Speaker 1: got chess and rufus say. We're gonna have a nice
- 1:43Speaker 1: chat with them very very shortly. And yeah, my trip
- 1:46Speaker 1: today to Saint Albans City for that crucial game in
- 1:53Speaker 1: the It'smian Premier League. We get a point today and
- 1:57Speaker 1: we are in the National League South, so we're talking
- 1:59Speaker 1: about that and also the disappointment of the game last
- 2:03Speaker 1: Saturday against Carl shut and Athletic. Right, okay, we'll start
- 2:07Speaker 1: off with songs morning. One of my favorite bands, this
- 2:10Speaker 1: is the Jam. This is a town called Malice. Fantastic
- 2:35Speaker 1: Paul Weller there and the Jam from nineteen eighty two,
- 2:38Speaker 1: What a brilliant year and that was.
- 2:39Speaker 3: For music and what does that reminds you?
- 2:41Speaker 2: Straight away?
- 2:42Speaker 3: Apart from you might have been to see these groups.
- 2:44Speaker 3: But I mean, straight away, I'm watching Billy Elliott.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Oh god, and at the same.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Where he's really angry and he's kicking the to willot'sy
- 2:53Speaker 3: and banging.
- 2:54Speaker 1: The wall and there, well, to me a town called Malice.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I can't really say too much because we used to
- 3:00Speaker 1: change the name from Malice to Challis, which was my
- 3:04Speaker 1: best friend Tony who died in two thousand and two,
- 3:08Speaker 1: and we used to call it something else called Matt
- 3:10Speaker 1: called Chalie. But yeah, nineteen eighty two fantastic year for
- 3:15Speaker 1: music for me and a lot of memories.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Right good, it's funny songs always just could be happy,
- 3:21Speaker 3: could be said, Yeah, songs always king.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:24Speaker 1: And we're just speaking to Rufe there while we had
- 3:27Speaker 1: the jam on there she said Alex. Alex's faker band
- 3:30Speaker 1: was Red Hot Chili Peppers and all bye.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Coincidence. That's on the on the planelist thesult this morning.
- 3:37Speaker 3: So yeah, okay, So let's say, I guess now I
- 3:39Speaker 3: want to introduce you to two lovely ladies who've come
- 3:42Speaker 3: in today. We want to say good morning to you. Ruth.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Good morning, Ruth, how are you?
- 3:45Speaker 4: Good morning?
- 3:46Speaker 3: Yeah, good, thank you, good, thanks for coming in and
- 3:49Speaker 3: just good morning to you.
- 3:50Speaker 5: Yeah, good, thank you.
- 3:51Speaker 3: And and are you old friends? Have you got to
- 3:54Speaker 3: school together or you just tell.
- 3:56Speaker 5: Us we've been friends since we were one, so.
- 4:01Speaker 3: You haven't told us how long that is? Something year?
- 4:04Speaker 4: You know, we went through primary, secondary, college, everything together
- 4:07Speaker 4: and were still still standing.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Oh that's lovely, Yeah, brilliant. So so Rufe, we've got
- 4:12Speaker 3: this game plan and it's the second year of running.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Adrian was down on the PA last year. Knows a
- 4:18Speaker 3: bit more than myself. So if you like, let's take
- 4:22Speaker 3: us back and Sada, you lost your husband Alex, and
- 4:26Speaker 3: tell us about that sort of last journey.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Yeah. So Alex and I were together, Well, it would
- 4:33Speaker 4: have been nine years this month, but we lost him
- 4:36Speaker 4: in September twenty twenty four. He was diagnosed in twenty nineteen.
- 4:43Speaker 4: It was with cancer, and unfortunately he didn't really show
- 4:47Speaker 4: any symptoms, so by the time it was found it
- 4:50Speaker 4: had already spread, so we knew straight away that it
- 4:53Speaker 4: was terminal. But anyone that knew Alex knew that he
- 4:56Speaker 4: wasn't going to give up without a fight, and he
- 4:59Speaker 4: was so positive and went through years and years of
- 5:02Speaker 4: treatment and he was doing really well until first of
- 5:05Speaker 4: August twenty twenty four he went up to bed a
- 5:10Speaker 4: little bit before me and he had a stroke. Our
- 5:13Speaker 4: little child was only four months at the time, and yeah,
- 5:17Speaker 4: that was unfortunately the start of the end, really, and
- 5:20Speaker 4: he never never came out of hospital. He was in
- 5:23Speaker 4: hospital for a month and then went to the Pilgrim's
- 5:25Speaker 4: hospice for a few days where he passed away. It
- 5:29Speaker 4: was really important to me to keep his memory alive
- 5:33Speaker 4: because he was only forty nine when he passed away,
- 5:35Speaker 4: and he just deserved that. He loved life. And as
- 5:38Speaker 4: I say, he had five children and three of them
- 5:40Speaker 4: were with me, and we just wanted to remember him
- 5:43Speaker 4: in a way that we thought he would want to
- 5:46Speaker 4: be remembered. And his passion was football. So there was
- 5:49Speaker 4: no better way really than to do it. So we're
- 5:52Speaker 4: doing it in April because his birthday is in April.
- 5:55Speaker 4: So we just thought every year his kids can remember
- 5:57Speaker 4: him and it be a joyful event other than a
- 6:00Speaker 4: sad day.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Really, right, it sounds like a sudden sort of from
- 6:05Speaker 3: being diagnosed when he passed away. It sounds like a
- 6:07Speaker 3: very quick time, was it.
- 6:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean he was he had the diagnosis for
- 6:12Speaker 4: five years, but it was horrible because for five years
- 6:16Speaker 4: we couldn't really live our lives properly because he was
- 6:18Speaker 4: on treatment and we couldn't plan ahead because you just
- 6:20Speaker 4: don't know what's going to change at any point, even
- 6:22Speaker 4: though he was doing really well. We sort of had
- 6:25Speaker 4: that hanging over us for so long, and then it
- 6:29Speaker 4: still happened so suddenly with no warning, so we sort
- 6:31Speaker 4: of had the worst of both worlds. Really sort of
- 6:34Speaker 4: a really.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Really tough time for you, and not only you, the children,
- 6:38Speaker 3: all the family, all his friends on that, but just
- 6:40Speaker 3: this is where you come in. You've been old friends
- 6:42Speaker 3: with Ruth, so I mean, where did you fit on
- 6:45Speaker 3: this journey?
- 6:46Speaker 5: Wherever I needed to be honest, we was at the
- 6:49Speaker 5: hospital obviously, actually said. Their youngest was only four months
- 6:52Speaker 5: old when Alex had his stroke and needed to be
- 6:56Speaker 5: with free for all the time, so I was kind
- 6:58Speaker 5: of childcare. We went to the HOSPITALX got tip to
- 7:01Speaker 5: London Hospital and I went up there with them to
- 7:04Speaker 5: look after the baby and just picked up childcare as
- 7:08Speaker 5: and when needed, to be honest, went and entertained the
- 7:12Speaker 5: baby whilst at the Pilgrim's Hospice yeah, just did what
- 7:16Speaker 5: any friend.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Would indeed, a true friend to you, Yeah, yeah, she
- 7:20Speaker 3: has just at this point say that we do understand
- 7:24Speaker 3: up to a point what you're going through because my
- 7:26Speaker 3: colleague here, Adrian, is a cancer survivor and he's been
- 7:30Speaker 3: through the meal. I've been a compare MC Race for
- 7:35Speaker 3: Life for over twenty years and heard some stories very
- 7:40Speaker 3: similar to what you're telling us, Ruth. So I lost
- 7:44Speaker 3: my since I lost my sister to cancer, and so
- 7:47Speaker 3: it's a terrible thing and you've just got to get
- 7:50Speaker 3: through it and support each other like Jess has supported Ruth,
- 7:54Speaker 3: and just be there for each other. But it's a
- 7:58Speaker 3: great thing that you're doing, Ruth. As you said, Alex
- 8:02Speaker 3: loved his football and you're turning it into a football
- 8:05Speaker 3: match where all his friends can get together. So I
- 8:09Speaker 3: mean Alex himself when he was active, did he play football?
- 8:13Speaker 4: Yeah he did, Yeah, he a long time ago. He
- 8:15Speaker 4: did actually play for Folks in Victor. I didn't know
- 8:18Speaker 4: him at that point, so don't ask me what year.
- 8:20Speaker 4: But yeah, he was a very keen football player and
- 8:22Speaker 4: right up until he could he was still playing like
- 8:25Speaker 4: five us tide with work and stuff like that and
- 8:27Speaker 4: with his friends. So yeah, he loved it.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Great.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Okay, so we're going to play a little song now,
- 8:32Speaker 3: and what we're going to do, We're going to come
- 8:33Speaker 3: back and we're going to chat about the game and
- 8:37Speaker 3: tell us the teams and are they all dusting off
- 8:40Speaker 3: their boots and haven't played since last year's game? And
- 8:45Speaker 3: we're just going to just you know, just keep talking.
- 8:48Speaker 3: This is so interesting, and I think the people out
- 8:51Speaker 3: there that's listening, they might want to just prick their
- 8:54Speaker 3: ears up and stay tuned because this is such an
- 8:57Speaker 3: important hour of the show.
- 9:15Speaker 1: There you go, there's Ballinonda, Carlisle and the Go Gos
- 9:18Speaker 1: and that one again from nineteen eighty one.
- 9:21Speaker 2: At this time, that's our lips are sealed.
- 9:23Speaker 3: What a tune that was, right, Adrian. So Ruth's switch
- 9:27Speaker 3: it to you. I'd like to go back actually and
- 9:31Speaker 3: to last year. You had a game last year and
- 9:34Speaker 3: that was the first game. Obviously you've learned a lot
- 9:37Speaker 3: putting this game on, So just tell us about how
- 9:41Speaker 3: it went. Was it good fun? Did you get many
- 9:42Speaker 3: people there and just recapped last year's game?
- 9:46Speaker 4: Yeah, so it was a really great day. Obviously we
- 9:48Speaker 4: didn't really know what to expect with it being the
- 9:50Speaker 4: first year, we didn't know how successful it would be.
- 9:53Speaker 4: Last year we raised money for cancer research. We're trying
- 9:55Speaker 4: to choose charities that are obviously linked to Alex and
- 9:59Speaker 4: I think we had about five hundred people come to watch.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:01Speaker 1: I mean I was in the PA box doing my
- 10:05Speaker 1: little bit for you, and I was very very surprised
- 10:09Speaker 1: how professional you run that You run the whole day.
- 10:12Speaker 2: You had a.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Timetable which you were there to really really well, from
- 10:20Speaker 1: the very start to the team's coming out kick off,
- 10:26Speaker 1: just everything and you seemed to work perfectly on the day.
- 10:29Speaker 1: And I think you say there was a good four
- 10:31Speaker 1: or five hundred people. There was obviously people coming throughout
- 10:33Speaker 1: the day because you had other offense going on.
- 10:36Speaker 4: So yeah, we've tried to make it good. We tried
- 10:39Speaker 4: to make it like a family fun day as well
- 10:40Speaker 4: as a football match, so that if people wanted to
- 10:43Speaker 4: bring their kids, there's something for them to do. We
- 10:45Speaker 4: had a dance performance. I don't know if you remember that,
- 10:49Speaker 4: face painting, pancycastles, that sort of thing, So I think
- 10:51Speaker 4: that obviously attracted people to come. But Alex was quite
- 10:54Speaker 4: a popular guy, Like if you met him, you wouldn't
- 10:55Speaker 4: forget him. He was quite well known around boats, and honestly,
- 10:58Speaker 4: we'd go anywhere and he'd have someone saying hello, and
- 11:01Speaker 4: half the time he said to me, I don't know
- 11:02Speaker 4: who that is. But yeah, So we did have a
- 11:04Speaker 4: really good turnout. I think that was about twenty five
- 11:06Speaker 4: players each team, because obviously they haven't all been playing
- 11:10Speaker 4: football that much, so they were swapping on and off.
- 11:12Speaker 4: But it was nice to know that so many people
- 11:14Speaker 4: wanted to turn up and do it for Alex really,
- 11:17Speaker 4: so yeah, it was a really successful day.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Was any injuries for the players, Yes, it was. I
- 11:22Speaker 2: see a few of them.
- 11:23Speaker 1: They were all enthusiastic at the start, and then after
- 11:25Speaker 1: about ten to fifteen minutes, get me off, Get me off, Yeah,
- 11:29Speaker 1: started flagging on.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Just wondered if anybody got hurt.
- 11:31Speaker 4: Yeah, there was one quite bad. I think one of
- 11:34Speaker 4: the guys on one of the team's snapped his achilles
- 11:38Speaker 4: and it took about six months to recover out.
- 11:41Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 11:41Speaker 4: Other than that, it was just a few bruises, and
- 11:43Speaker 4: I think that was a pulled hamstring or something as well.
- 11:46Speaker 4: But overall it wasn't too bad.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Playing this year.
- 11:52Speaker 4: One of them is the achilles guy. I saw him
- 11:54Speaker 4: out last week actually, and he said he wanted to
- 11:56Speaker 4: but I said no, no.
- 11:58Speaker 2: No, probably best not.
- 12:00Speaker 4: No, you can watch from the sidelines.
- 12:02Speaker 3: So there's two teams themselves actually, I mean where where
- 12:06Speaker 3: where did they come up from?
- 12:07Speaker 4: So Alex was a police officer. So one of the
- 12:13Speaker 4: teams is friends and colleagues, which is called Blue Light Legends,
- 12:16Speaker 4: and the other team is his friends and family and
- 12:19Speaker 4: that team is called Ours All Stars. So it's a
- 12:22Speaker 4: mixture of both work and friends and family, which is nice.
- 12:25Speaker 3: And yes, if you've got anybody you know that's playing
- 12:27Speaker 3: or you're just you're going to be on the side.
- 12:29Speaker 3: You're not the first daid lady, are you.
- 12:31Speaker 5: Absolutely not.
- 12:37Speaker 3: So what will your role bey on the day?
- 12:39Speaker 5: Just looking looking after looking after the kids, just helping out.
- 12:43Speaker 5: Just I'll be there with my own children, so just
- 12:47Speaker 5: just being there to make sure it all runs smoothly
- 12:49Speaker 5: really so.
- 12:50Speaker 3: So Rufe once again, it's a little bit more than
- 12:52Speaker 3: a football metch today. Sorry, on the day you've got
- 12:57Speaker 3: some other stuff lined up.
- 12:58Speaker 4: Yeah, this year we've gone for a singer because obviously
- 13:01Speaker 4: they've got a new pitch there now, haven't they. So
- 13:03Speaker 4: the less people on there the better, really, So we've
- 13:05Speaker 4: got a singer this year, Bantcycastle. Again we have a raffle,
- 13:08Speaker 4: which is where we make a lot of the money
- 13:11Speaker 4: and like children's tombolas and activities and things. We'd normally
- 13:15Speaker 4: sit up a little football girl. But again weather dependent.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Really and what time is it? We haven't mentioned that yet,
- 13:22Speaker 2: So gates.
- 13:22Speaker 4: Open at twelve thirty. Kickoff is at two twenty two.
- 13:26Speaker 4: No last time, yeah, exactly the same, well remembered.
- 13:30Speaker 3: Okay, so I think we'll have a little loving music
- 13:32Speaker 3: break now, and don't press the button too soon this time.
- 13:34Speaker 2: I will tell you you can't.
- 13:37Speaker 3: You can't beat Live Raadio.
- 13:38Speaker 2: I'll tell you this.
- 13:39Speaker 3: We make mistake every Saturday, so you never know that. Okay, good,
- 13:44Speaker 3: Then tell us what we've got.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Okay, this is Joy Division and this is another one
- 13:47Speaker 1: of my favorites. It's always the eighties, isn't it. This
- 13:51Speaker 1: is Joy's vision and love will tear us apart. Joy
- 14:09Speaker 1: Division there and that love will tear us apart. Slightly
- 14:12Speaker 1: different version that I normally know, but still a good
- 14:16Speaker 1: track anyway.
- 14:16Speaker 3: I tell you Live Radio, you don't know what to expect,
- 14:18Speaker 3: even we don't know what's coming up. Okay, Ruth, so
- 14:22Speaker 3: let's take us back. I mean, it's great that you're
- 14:24Speaker 3: you're celebrating Alex's life with the match, but I want
- 14:28Speaker 3: to get back to the more serious side. I mean,
- 14:32Speaker 3: when he was suffering with cancer, who helped you along
- 14:36Speaker 3: the way apart from family and friends? And was there
- 14:39Speaker 3: any organizations that you want to mention?
- 14:42Speaker 4: I mean, he didn't have that much involvement with with
- 14:46Speaker 4: anybody other than the oncologists really for the majority of it,
- 14:49Speaker 4: because he handled it so well. But the reason why
- 14:52Speaker 4: we've chosen Pilgrim's Hospice this year is because, as I
- 14:56Speaker 4: mentioned earlier, he spent his last two days in Unfortunately
- 15:01Speaker 4: it wasn't manageable at the hospital anymore, so to make
- 15:04Speaker 4: him more comfortable, he was transferred to Ashford Pilgrim's Hospice
- 15:08Speaker 4: and they were brilliant. Really, it was such an awful
- 15:13Speaker 4: time for us, As horrible as it sounds, we were
- 15:16Speaker 4: pretty much waiting for him to pass. He wasn't able
- 15:18Speaker 4: to communicate with us by this point and it was
- 15:20Speaker 4: just like he was asleep, So you can imagine how
- 15:23Speaker 4: difficult that was. Obviously, had our youngest baby with us
- 15:27Speaker 4: at the time, he was there with me because I
- 15:29Speaker 4: was breastfeeding, so he was needing entertaining and stuff, and
- 15:33Speaker 4: the nurses there would come and take him off and
- 15:37Speaker 4: look after him so that we could have those last
- 15:39Speaker 4: precious moments with Alex. Jess came up, didn't you, and
- 15:43Speaker 4: they sort of took Bailey. They were really good. They
- 15:47Speaker 4: made us tea, toast, anything that we wanted. They'd come in,
- 15:50Speaker 4: hold your hand, talk about it. They were a shoulder
- 15:53Speaker 4: to cry on.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Really, they are fantastic. My mother passed away in two
- 15:56Speaker 1: thousand and five there. She was there for ten days,
- 15:59Speaker 1: so I appreciate how brilliant the staff are at the
- 16:03Speaker 1: Pilgrim Hospice in Ashvid. They are fantastic, and that was
- 16:06Speaker 1: probably one of the reasons why I agreed to do
- 16:09Speaker 1: it last year, to help you and.
- 16:13Speaker 2: To thank them in a small little way.
- 16:16Speaker 1: I'm sad I'm not going to be there this year,
- 16:18Speaker 1: but unfortunately due to my folks and the Victor commitments,
- 16:21Speaker 1: I should be in Cray Valley at the time, but Kevin,
- 16:25Speaker 1: good old keV is stepping in reach.
- 16:28Speaker 3: I will just say getting back to Pilgrims, and I
- 16:30Speaker 3: mean I've had dealing with Pilgrims, and I've had a
- 16:32Speaker 3: couple of friends passed away out there, and they are
- 16:36Speaker 3: a different breed of Pilgrims nurses, aren't they. They're so
- 16:39Speaker 3: sympathetic and understanding. I mean, what a job, you know.
- 16:43Speaker 3: I do remember on a lighter note, I was seeing
- 16:47Speaker 3: my friend in Pilgrims and a nurse came in and
- 16:51Speaker 3: I think there was an award of about half a
- 16:53Speaker 3: dozen at the time, and she said, anyone want a Guinness?
- 16:58Speaker 3: I put my maid up sitting. It's not for visitors,
- 17:01Speaker 3: it's for the place.
- 17:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean they interestingly. Obviously we were there for
- 17:07Speaker 4: two days, two nights, so we spoke to them quite
- 17:08Speaker 4: a lot. And I think the reason why they are
- 17:11Speaker 4: so lovely and supportive is because most of them work
- 17:14Speaker 4: there because they've actually been through something similar. They all
- 17:18Speaker 4: sort of had a story and they were able to
- 17:20Speaker 4: sort of support us, and even ongoing, they've offered me
- 17:23Speaker 4: like therapy sessions. They don't just sort of leave it there.
- 17:26Speaker 2: They are brilliant.
- 17:28Speaker 4: Yeah, and it's such a lovely place. As strange as
- 17:30Speaker 4: that sounds.
- 17:31Speaker 2: It doesn't look like a hospital, get that.
- 17:33Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 17:33Speaker 5: I think even just driving up the driveway to Pogo's hospice.
- 17:36Speaker 5: Do you get this odd sense of just I mean,
- 17:39Speaker 5: I'm not spiritual by any means, but you just get
- 17:41Speaker 5: this weird.
- 17:43Speaker 3: Calmness.
- 17:44Speaker 5: Yeah, and somewhere so horrific, but you know what happens there,
- 17:48Speaker 5: just the feeling you get inside.
- 17:50Speaker 4: Is and they were They allowed us to you know,
- 17:52Speaker 4: Alex's closest friends to all come in and say they goodbye.
- 17:55Speaker 4: There was no limit on who can come and go.
- 17:58Speaker 5: Incredible, incredible, And I.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Think what people don't realize is that it is a
- 18:03Speaker 3: charity and they the fundraise. What you're doing is just
- 18:07Speaker 3: adding to keeping the hospices open. I mean, I've done
- 18:13Speaker 3: a few events for Pilgrims, and I can't remember all
- 18:17Speaker 3: the facts now, but if I've done a walking event
- 18:20Speaker 3: where they all go off and there's like a brief in,
- 18:24Speaker 3: then I quote the fact that they need millions to
- 18:27Speaker 3: keep them going. And this is why you always see Pilgrims,
- 18:30Speaker 3: you know, fundraisers events. I mean, the big one that
- 18:34Speaker 3: I've been involved with in the past was the Christmas
- 18:36Speaker 3: Fun Run. I mean, there's fantastically supported. A lot of
- 18:40Speaker 3: people don't know why they're there. It's good fun, but
- 18:43Speaker 3: pilgrims just need that money to keep going. It's not
- 18:46Speaker 3: if it dries up then the place is nearly closed
- 18:48Speaker 3: a few years ago. But so what you're doing is
- 18:52Speaker 3: it's great for the community, great for you, Ruth, and
- 18:55Speaker 3: you just to move on and get all Alex's friends
- 18:59Speaker 3: involved and have a great day in his memory. So yeah, okay,
- 19:03Speaker 3: so we're running out of time now, so we've got
- 19:05Speaker 3: to have a little think back, Ruth and Jiss. So
- 19:09Speaker 3: it's kind of the last few words from you now.
- 19:12Speaker 3: I mean, it's been a happy, sad journey, but there
- 19:16Speaker 3: must be lots of people this is a tough one
- 19:18Speaker 3: that you want to thank, So just just start name
- 19:21Speaker 3: drop in and say loo to a few people.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Ruth.
- 19:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I think Alex's parents, Roger and Nora
- 19:27Speaker 4: Miles are listening today, So I just wanted to thank them,
- 19:29Speaker 4: really because throughout all of it, they've been a huge
- 19:32Speaker 4: support to me and my children and to Alex. And
- 19:36Speaker 4: you know they've lost their son too, so I know
- 19:39Speaker 4: it's been so incredibly difficult for them, yet they've still
- 19:43Speaker 4: been there for every step. So I do want to
- 19:46Speaker 4: sort of thank them, my parents, my friends. Jess has
- 19:48Speaker 4: been a great support to me. All my colleagues and yeah,
- 19:53Speaker 4: friends from all over the place have all checked in
- 19:55Speaker 4: regularly and made sure that we're all okay. Alex, as
- 19:58Speaker 4: I said, had five kids, Millie, Jake, Mason, Layla and Bailey,
- 20:03Speaker 4: and they've kept us going really like if they can,
- 20:05Speaker 4: if they can get up every day with a smile
- 20:06Speaker 4: on their face, then then so can we. And then finally,
- 20:10Speaker 4: really Fran and Alex who have been a huge part
- 20:13Speaker 4: in helping me put the event on. They've been there.
- 20:16Speaker 4: Unfortunately they can make it today, but they've been a
- 20:19Speaker 4: great help and it was a really lovely idea. So
- 20:21Speaker 4: very grateful to everybody.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Right, And Jess, what about you? I know it asn't
- 20:27Speaker 3: it's not your family, but I mean you've been friends
- 20:29Speaker 3: with Ruth for thirty or years, yeah, and so you're
- 20:35Speaker 3: like joined of the hip. I mean, who do you
- 20:37Speaker 3: want to think along the way, and please listen, tell
- 20:39Speaker 3: us the names of your children as well.
- 20:41Speaker 5: Oh my children are Scarlet and Chloe, and they'll be
- 20:43Speaker 5: listening at some point, I'm sure. But I just think
- 20:46Speaker 5: Alex is a true testament if you get back what
- 20:49Speaker 5: you put out to the world, if you put out kindness,
- 20:52Speaker 5: joy and are really positive. The support he was deceived
- 20:57Speaker 5: while he was poorly and also really for the kids
- 21:00Speaker 5: have received since he passed has been nothing short of incredible.
- 21:04Speaker 5: Even looking at his funeral, there's picture taking at his funeral.
- 21:07Speaker 5: It's just amazing. I say the football last year, but
- 21:10Speaker 5: just the constant support is insane and it just really
- 21:14Speaker 5: does remind you just to be a good person because
- 21:17Speaker 5: it will, it will come back to you when when
- 21:20Speaker 5: you need it.
- 21:20Speaker 4: Really, I know he'd be so grateful knowing that he
- 21:24Speaker 4: can't be here to look after us, and that everybody
- 21:26Speaker 4: that he left behind has all pulled together and they've
- 21:29Speaker 4: all been really great and I can't thank them enough
- 21:32Speaker 4: to got us through the last nineteen months.
- 21:34Speaker 3: Right well, I just want to say, Jess and Ruth,
- 21:37Speaker 3: you've had a fantastic journey. And Adrian, what do you think.
- 21:45Speaker 2: I mean?
- 21:46Speaker 1: I was there last year and I know how how
- 21:48Speaker 1: much work that they put in, you know, to make
- 21:50Speaker 1: it a success and to raise money for Last year
- 21:53Speaker 1: it was cancer research. This year it's obviously for Kilgrin's
- 21:56Speaker 1: Hospice and yeah, if you can go it along to
- 22:01Speaker 1: the Alkaline Stadium two weeks today, then please do so
- 22:06Speaker 1: the event.
- 22:07Speaker 4: Sorry, could I just add the event is actually called
- 22:09Speaker 4: Miles Memorial Cup. I don't think I've actually mentioned right ago,
- 22:12Speaker 4: but if anybody is interested in coming along, it's only
- 22:14Speaker 4: five pounds to come and watch for adults and two
- 22:17Speaker 4: pounds for children. And there is an Instagram page with
- 22:20Speaker 4: the ticket link on there and it's called Miles Memorial Cup.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Right, yeah, Okay, So I think the last thing to
- 22:26Speaker 3: say is just to recap ruth. I know we've said
- 22:30Speaker 3: it before, but it really does need the message going
- 22:33Speaker 3: out there. Tell us about the day, time, is, who's
- 22:36Speaker 3: going to be there, what's going to be there, how
- 22:38Speaker 3: much it is gone?
- 22:40Speaker 4: Yeah, So, as I just said, Miles Memorial Cup, Saturday,
- 22:42Speaker 4: the eighteenth of April. Doors open at twelve thirty. We
- 22:46Speaker 4: have a live singer, we have face painting, a raffle
- 22:51Speaker 4: with some really great prizes. Lots of local businesses have
- 22:53Speaker 4: been really generous, and that is a lot where we
- 22:55Speaker 4: get a lot of our money raised for the charity.
- 22:58Speaker 4: I think last year we actually made five hundred pounds
- 23:01Speaker 4: for cancer research, so hoping to get something close to
- 23:04Speaker 4: that this year. The actual match kicks off at two
- 23:07Speaker 4: twenty two, but there is a two minute silence before that,
- 23:10Speaker 4: and we also do a balloon release because obviously it's
- 23:13Speaker 4: around his birthday. And then the raffle is then drawn
- 23:17Speaker 4: after the football match.
- 23:18Speaker 3: So does it spill on into the evening? It does?
- 23:20Speaker 4: Yeah, we we sort of have a two hour break
- 23:22Speaker 4: where everyone goes home, gets freshened up, and then come
- 23:24Speaker 4: back for seven point thirty where we have djo Jack
- 23:28Speaker 4: Little who is a friend of mine who is coming
- 23:30Speaker 4: to do the takeover for the evening, for it so
- 23:33Speaker 4: that everybody can get together and enjoy the evening and
- 23:36Speaker 4: remember and celebrate the day.
- 23:37Speaker 3: Really right, excellent? Just any last words from you?
- 23:41Speaker 5: No, you just come along on Saturday and support it.
- 23:44Speaker 5: Hopefully the weather will be nice. Try at least it
- 23:46Speaker 5: was last year, so lovely fingers crossed the same this year.
- 23:51Speaker 3: Okay, well, I think we've just covered every single square
- 23:55Speaker 3: blade of grass today or playing. Yeah, oh yeah, because
- 23:59Speaker 3: it's artificial, which now I hope you told the players
- 24:02Speaker 3: grass last year. I might have to go out and
- 24:04Speaker 3: buy some new boots.
- 24:05Speaker 4: Mightn't I yeah, I think I think they're all aware.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Oh yeah, right, okay, So well I think we've covered
- 24:10Speaker 3: absolutely everything and it just leaves us to sign off.
- 24:14Speaker 3: I want to say thank you to Jess and thank
- 24:16Speaker 3: you to Ruth for coming in for having I thought
- 24:19Speaker 3: it might be a tough interview actually, but you're so
- 24:22Speaker 3: brave and so forward about what's going on, so positive.
- 24:26Speaker 3: It's turned this well. I was a little bit worried that,
- 24:29Speaker 3: you know, you know, we've had it in the studio before,
- 24:31Speaker 3: might get a bit emotional, but you're so strong and
- 24:34Speaker 3: I want to congratulate both of you, and I don't
- 24:36Speaker 3: think there's any better way to finish than by playing
- 24:40Speaker 3: this song by one of Alex's favorite groups. So Ruth
- 24:45Speaker 3: just tell us about Alex's choice of music.
- 24:48Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean he loved, he loved all music, but
- 24:50Speaker 4: Read to Chilli Peppers was definitely one of his favorites.
- 24:52Speaker 4: So yeah, it'd be a really nice way to think
- 24:54Speaker 4: about him in the moment.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Okay, Well, once again, thank you to Jess and Ruth
- 24:59Speaker 1: for coming in the small It's always nice to have
- 25:01Speaker 1: your guests coming on Hearing Radio. Focusing on one oh
- 25:07Speaker 1: five ninth and are we going to play out say what?
- 25:11Speaker 1: Say goodbye to Jess and Ruth by playing the Red
- 25:14Speaker 1: Hot Chili Peppers and this one is called by the.
- 25:16Speaker 6: Way, standing in lad to see the shot, and that,
- 25:29Speaker 6: and there's a ladder on.
- 25:32Speaker 3: Heavy gloes, sa.
- 25:36Speaker 6: Cha to see me waiting for the girl singing.
- 25:44Speaker 4: Songs to me.
- 25:45Speaker 6: And in the mon
