Latest / Beyond The Horizon / The Abduction And Murder Of Eliza Fletcher
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: What's up everyone and welcome back to the program. We
- 0:04Speaker 1: have a disturbing developing story down in Memphis where a
- 0:08Speaker 1: woman named Eliza Fletcher has been kidnapped near the University
- 0:13Speaker 1: of Memphis. The police, her family, her friends, her loved one,
- 0:18Speaker 1: the community in general now is working overtime to try
- 0:21Speaker 1: and figure out who snatched Eliza Fletcher. Now she was
- 0:25Speaker 1: going for a jog. And while she was on this jog,
- 0:28Speaker 1: somebody in an SUV, a dark-colored SUV, was seen pulling
- 0:33Speaker 1: into the parking lot where she was at. And then, well,
- 0:36Speaker 1: she vanished. Now, there is a scramble underway as people
- 0:41Speaker 1: try and put the pieces together to try and figure
- 0:43Speaker 1: out what happened to this lady and where she is.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Anytime we have a situation where somebody is abducted or
- 0:51Speaker 1: a woman is kidnapped, we all know that time is crucial.
- 0:56Speaker 1: So the more information the authorities get here, the more
- 1:00Speaker 1: tips they get by the public, the better off this
- 1:03Speaker 1: lady and her family are going to be. Because time
- 1:07Speaker 1: is certainly of the essence now. And whenever you have
- 1:10Speaker 1: this sort of situation, it's a battle against the clock.
- 1:16Speaker 1: So hopefully some information pours in. Hopefully some tips come in.
- 1:20Speaker 1: And hopefully they get down to the bottom of this
- 1:22Speaker 1: and find Eliza Fletcher. Today we have an article from
- 1:27Speaker 1: Commercial Appeal. I'm guessing this is a local station down
- 1:32Speaker 1: in Memphis. They have a pretty detailed article about what
- 1:37Speaker 1: happened here. So that's why I chose this one. Headline.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Police say someone kidnapped Eliza Fletcher near the University of Memphis.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Who is she? This article was authored by Catherine Burgess
- 1:50Speaker 1: and Gina Butkovich. Eliza Fletcher, the 34-year-old woman believed kidnapped
- 1:57Speaker 1: on the University of Memphis campus early Friday morning, is
- 2:01Speaker 1: a teacher and part of a well-known Memphis family. Yo,
- 2:05Speaker 1: off of the campus? That's even more disturbing. So, if
- 2:09Speaker 1: you're a parent and you have a kid at the
- 2:11Speaker 1: University of Memphis... You gotta make sure that their head's
- 2:15Speaker 1: on a swivel right now. And if you're the university,
- 2:17Speaker 1: you better step up patrols. Bring in some more campus police,
- 2:21Speaker 1: some off-duty officers, all of that shit. Because you obviously
- 2:25Speaker 1: have a predator in your midst. Also known as Liza,
- 2:30Speaker 1: she was last seen jogging around 4.30am near the intersection
- 2:33Speaker 1: of Central Avenue and Zach H., My girlfriend is a
- 2:38Speaker 1: fitness buff. She's a personal trainer. So she's always up
- 2:41Speaker 1: to some kind of crazy working out. For instance, she
- 2:46Speaker 1: works at a gym, obviously, and her shift starts usually
- 2:49Speaker 1: at about, oh, I don't know, 5 a.m. Well, she's
- 2:52Speaker 1: up by 1245, 1 a.m. every morning to get to
- 2:56Speaker 1: that gym a couple hours early to start working out
- 2:59Speaker 1: before she even starts her shift. But previously, she used
- 3:03Speaker 1: to go on these runs and all this wild shit.
- 3:06Speaker 1: And I used to tell her all the time, I
- 3:07Speaker 1: don't like you being out there at four o'clock in
- 3:09Speaker 1: the morning running because there's a lot of sickos out there,
- 3:13Speaker 1: especially in a place like Las Vegas. I live in
- 3:15Speaker 1: a transient, a transient ass city. And there's a lot
- 3:18Speaker 1: of people who are just, you know, passing through, if
- 3:20Speaker 1: you will. They see some pretty girl running target of opportunity.
- 3:25Speaker 1: And before you know it, your whole entire life is
- 3:27Speaker 1: turned upside down. but nobody should have the fear, going
- 3:34Speaker 1: out for a jog and getting kidnapped. I mean, come on,
- 3:36Speaker 1: that's the kind of society we want to live in?
- 3:39Speaker 1: She is believed to have been kidnapped, police say, setting
- 3:41Speaker 1: off a search for a dark-colored SUV seen leaving the scene.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Described as full of life by George Robertson, the senior
- 3:49Speaker 1: pastor at Second Presbyterian Church, Fletcher married Richard Fletcher III
- 3:55Speaker 1: at the church in 2014. Then the couple held their
- 3:59Speaker 1: reception at the Dixon Church Memphis Magazine, at the Dixon,
- 4:03Speaker 1: Memphis Magazine reported, they have two sons. So this lady,
- 4:07Speaker 1: regular old lady, going about her life, out for a jog,
- 4:10Speaker 1: trying to stay in shape, you know, the whole thing.
- 4:14Speaker 1: And some disgusting, degenerate animal has other plans. She and
- 4:23Speaker 1: her husband, Richie, are both very active and great leaders
- 4:26Speaker 1: in our congregation, Robertson said. They have two little boys
- 4:30Speaker 1: who have come up to me every week, and they
- 4:32Speaker 1: give me a hug. So while it looks like it's
- 4:35Speaker 1: a kidnapping, right, we have to keep in mind it
- 4:37Speaker 1: could be somebody she knows. More times than not, these
- 4:41Speaker 1: situations unveil themselves, and it's somebody that you know. Of course,
- 4:46Speaker 1: it could be a stranger. We've seen that a million times, too.
- 4:49Speaker 1: But it's one of those kinds of scenarios where, as
- 4:53Speaker 1: a police officer or an investigator... You have to look
- 4:56Speaker 1: at every single angle, right? You have to make sure
- 4:59Speaker 1: you're not missing anything. That way you can work towards
- 5:02Speaker 1: finding this woman and bringing her home. She is listed
- 5:06Speaker 1: as a teacher at St. Mary's Episcopal School. In 2021,
- 5:10Speaker 1: she taught junior kindergarten. Before working at St. Mary's, she
- 5:14Speaker 1: taught kindergarten at Promise Academy in Nashville and coached soccer.
- 5:19Speaker 1: So obviously a woman who is involved in her community,
- 5:22Speaker 1: involved in her schooling as far as her job, coaching soccer,
- 5:27Speaker 1: knowing the children, being a part of their lives, and
- 5:30Speaker 1: all of that snuffed out in a moment by some
- 5:33Speaker 1: sicko who takes her against her will. She knows each
- 5:38Speaker 1: student individually and does whatever she can to excite them
- 5:41Speaker 1: for learning, St. Mary's posted on Facebook last year. You
- 5:44Speaker 1: will always find her celebrating big and small successes in
- 5:48Speaker 1: the classroom. Fletcher is the granddaughter of the late Joseph
- 5:52Speaker 1: Joe Orgill III, Memphis hardware businessman and philanthropist, who has
- 5:57Speaker 1: supported causes including Dixon Gallery and Gardens and Church Health.
- 6:03Speaker 1: So she comes from an established family in the area.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Her grandfather, obviously, was somebody who established themselves as a
- 6:13Speaker 1: very successful man in the community. Had a hardware business.
- 6:18Speaker 1: He was a philanthropist. And you find this kind of
- 6:20Speaker 1: stuff down in the South all the time, right? These
- 6:23Speaker 1: like legacy families where they've been in this city for
- 6:26Speaker 1: 300 years. Everybody knows their granddad, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 6:31Speaker 1: That's like a big thing down in the South, like
- 6:33Speaker 1: legacy families and stuff. She and her husband are both
- 6:37Speaker 1: just inspirations in the sense of their zest for life
- 6:40Speaker 1: and the love of running and athletics, Robertson said. But
- 6:44Speaker 1: what's most important at this time is they have a
- 6:46Speaker 1: very deep and profound trust in Christ, who they have
- 6:49Speaker 1: leaned on throughout their lives, and who has made a
- 6:52Speaker 1: real significant impact on each of them personally. That is
- 6:56Speaker 1: Richie's trust right now. Hey, whatever helps you get through it, right?
- 7:00Speaker 1: I'm not a religious person myself, but I certainly don't
- 7:03Speaker 1: have any problem with people who are. If that brings
- 7:06Speaker 1: you peace and that brings you comfort, I say go
- 7:09Speaker 1: for it. As long as you're not infringing on anybody
- 7:12Speaker 1: else's rights, I don't care what you do. You want
- 7:16Speaker 1: to worship the sun god like an Aztec? I don't care.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Really not my business, honestly. And people who are going
- 7:24Speaker 1: through difficult times or whatever, a lot of times they
- 7:27Speaker 1: do find religions. Fletcher is described as being 5 foot
- 7:33Speaker 1: 6 inches tall, weighing 137 pounds, and has brown or
- 7:38Speaker 1: blonde hair, police said. She graduated Hutchinson School in Memphis
- 7:43Speaker 1: in 2006, according to the All Girls School website. then
- 7:47Speaker 1: would go on to earn a bachelor's degree in exercise
- 7:50Speaker 1: and sports science at Baylor University, and a master of
- 7:54Speaker 1: art in teaching with an emphasis in elementary education at
- 7:58Speaker 1: Belmont University, according to a Facebook post from St. Mary's. Now,
- 8:04Speaker 1: I guess the question is, who is the person who
- 8:08Speaker 1: snatched her? Is it somebody she knows? Was it a rando?
- 8:11Speaker 1: That's the question I have right now anyway. Because from
- 8:15Speaker 1: what we're hearing, She has the kind of life where
- 8:17Speaker 1: it doesn't look like she had any, you know, extracurriculars
- 8:21Speaker 1: that would make you take pause. Doesn't seem to be
- 8:23Speaker 1: a drug problem. Doesn't seem to be an issue with
- 8:26Speaker 1: another man. So, that would lead me to believe that
- 8:30Speaker 1: this is, in fact, an abduction. Fletcher appears to have
- 8:35Speaker 1: been a dedicated runner for years. In 2019, she finished
- 8:39Speaker 1: the St. Jude Marathon with a time of 3 hours,
- 8:42Speaker 1: 26 minutes, and 9 seconds. a fast enough time to
- 8:46Speaker 1: qualify for the Boston Marathon, one of the most elite
- 8:49Speaker 1: marathons in the world. Out of all the women running
- 8:52Speaker 1: in the St. Jude Marathon that year, she finished 22nd.
- 8:56Speaker 1: And look, I get it, a lot of people like
- 8:57Speaker 1: to run. Like I said earlier, my girlfriend loves to run.
- 9:01Speaker 1: But I have a lot of concern about her doing
- 9:04Speaker 1: that at 4 o'clock in the morning. Robertson said pastors
- 9:10Speaker 1: are currently rotating in the church's sanctuary, which is open
- 9:13Speaker 1: until 3 p.m. today. The church is only about one
- 9:16Speaker 1: block away from where Fletcher is believed to have been kidnapped. So,
- 9:22Speaker 1: not that I have any inside information here or anything
- 9:24Speaker 1: like that, but the congregants of the church have to
- 9:27Speaker 1: be looked at. Does she have any issues with anybody
- 9:30Speaker 1: in this church? Was she engaging in an affair with
- 9:34Speaker 1: somebody in this church? Look, I don't know if any
- 9:36Speaker 1: of that's true, but you have to look at all
- 9:39Speaker 1: possibilities to try and find this woman's whereabouts. Robertson said
- 9:47Speaker 1: the church is maintaining hope that Fletcher will be found.
- 9:49Speaker 1: We're not Pollyanna. Robertson said, but we are praying for mercy,
- 10:03Speaker 1: and I think that's the prayer. The prayer is mostly
- 10:05Speaker 1: for mercy. We're just praying for mercy. All right, that's
- 10:09Speaker 1: all fine and well. While you're praying, I hope that
- 10:12Speaker 1: the police are searching, and I hope that there is
- 10:14Speaker 1: a robust investigation into what happened to this woman. Nobody
- 10:19Speaker 1: should go out for a jog and then disappear. But
- 10:22Speaker 1: as of now, that's exactly what has happened. So we'll
- 10:25Speaker 1: have to see where this all goes. We'll have to
- 10:27Speaker 1: see what sort of information we get moving forward. But
- 10:30Speaker 1: we'll definitely stick on top of it. And we'll continue
- 10:33Speaker 1: to update as information becomes available. If you'd like to
