- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Five, six, seven, eight, break up, break up, breaking up, you and break, break up, or done.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, different kind of break up.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: But that's with winter, winter, you and me were done.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: Went, yeah, that's true.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_01]: All right, here we go.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: Hi everybody, welcome back to Gilmour to say with Terran Haley.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Terran, this is Haley.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: Hi, Haley.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: Hi Terran.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_01]: Happy spring.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_01]: Happy spring, spring has sprung.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_01]: You were done at winter.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: At winter because we are so done with winter.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: But of course, when we're recording this, it's a couple weeks in advance, we just had some beautiful weather in New York City.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like stunning gorgeous.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody was outside.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: It was outside.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_00]: It was a record was hit with 80 degrees.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: Like the park.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: The sun has been 80 degrees.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's true.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: And today,
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's gonna snow but not today for y'all.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: It is actually, we don't know.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: It could be.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, you know what?
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: Never say never.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: Never.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: That's what Justin Bieber taught us.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: Never said never.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: It could snow.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: I smell snow.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: But today is all about, it's all about spring.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's actually not.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's actually not at all.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: Here's again.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: In the slightest.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_01]: We're just using it as, like, play on words to talk about today's topic because I was thinking, like, spring, spring, spring, spring, April, showers, bring me flowers, spring, break, spring, break, spring, breakups, and thus we decided we want to talk about it on someone else.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: When I pitched that to you when I was like spring break ups, you were like, oh, I love she's thinking thoughts over there.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: I love that.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: She's thinking, yeah, I love when she has a little thought outside of our collective brain that we have.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's true.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's true.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's always a shock because you know, we share one communal brain cells.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: So then from the brain cell.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: I won't tell me.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: We don't surprise each other much anymore.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we've just morphed into the same person.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, different ways.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: We surprise ourselves when we don't surprise ourselves, because they're like, oh, yeah, that's the damn girls.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: And then girls, it's true.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: But it is spring and we'll have a revival of our spring merch next week on the 30 fairs, which is actually my mom's birthday.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe it's a little birthday cake.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, to Kathy.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: And oh, to Kate.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: Who is a real supporter of the pod and by that, I mean, the two of us, the amount that she did for our
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: She's a true or the angel.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll talk about what's happening.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_00]: Spring re-release because I'm a spring gazebo, which like when I put it on today, I was like, this is cute.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this is cute.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just cute.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: I love this spring gazebo.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: I love our spring stamps, which was our first stamps collection to be released.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because it really is summer.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it really wasn't even intended necessarily to be like true spring.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think it like had spring elements to it, but it was one of those things where we were like, let's just
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: Gilmoura Phi, like a really fun stamp's collection, and we, I think talked about this when we released it last year.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: We designed this in like a matter of hours with Emily Loss.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, like 20 minutes.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_00]: We were like, okay, this is good.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: Sent it off to Emily Kelly, our E Kelly design, our Angel Emily.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, speaking of the names of her.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_00]: She had it all designed and we were like fantastic.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_00]: Cause she did our gazebo as well.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she does a lot of our merch and a lot of our collaborations, like any of our artistic designs that we've had we've done with her and she will whip someone up real fast it's really great but speaking of real fast is that what I want to say I'm not sure but I'm going to segue into what I was thinking about.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: We have a new version of our spring stamps.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we do.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_00]: We thought it would be fun to have like a shorter tea, which comfort colors makes one that's more like kind of hits at your hips, it would call it cropped.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but it's not true, cropped.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's not a true crop tea.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's the same teas that we released a marvelous time on.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and it's like more of like it's a perfect jeans tea like you like it's right that you want it to yeah It's great.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: We thought we would do just three across have like a mini version of the stamps If you want to like not like a comfort colors regular tea, but if you want like something that's a little bit more
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: I was going to say stylish, but that was the word I was going to say really stylish with the other one.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: So annoying.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: That is a tea that obviously can be really stylish, the comfort colors tea.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: I love a little oversized moment.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: I know you are the queen of an oversized tea.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: I know, right?
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: But there are sometimes when I just want almost like a baby tea field without a feeling super tight to my body.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: So that's why we like the crop is that it's also it's not a
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: You know, regular, regular, regular color, to comfort color Steve would be, but it hits at the right spot.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: So we were like, yeah, let's make something just like a little flirtyer.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: And it's flirty.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: That is totally what it is.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: And like you can't tuck in the stamps, which you can.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: You can tuck in.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: I love a tucked moment.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: But it's hard to because the design comes down.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: And so you're like, let's ruin the design.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: So having this like version where it's like, just have a little flirty tea on with your little jeans, with your little skirt, your little spring legs out.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, your little spring legs.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: Just out and about.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: Okay legs.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, I and I quite love it.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's cute.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: So that'll be out next week to celebrate kids birthday.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: I spring and all the things.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I love it.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: Let's celebrate spring because we have missed it.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_01]: We have missed it so badly.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_01]: Some of us have been in Florida during winter so it didn't have some of us have some of us have been in New York where it was.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: Some of us can't go outside now.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: because of the spring, it gets me every year.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: I always forget how bad it is.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: I get God every year.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's true.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_00]: I get God every year.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: I've had it for like two months straight.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: My eyes can't, like yesterday I sat outside and I was like, oh my gosh, you're like crazy.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: Love this, three and I hate this.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm going to suffer for it.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: I looked at it, I had been crying for like four hours when I was saying, oh, I was like, been out here 10 minutes.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_00]: That's why she got me.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_01]: So, summer, summer, summer, summer.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: This is how we'll be enjoying spring.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: Inside with my spring work.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I love that for you.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: So you can go to www.gomoretosaid.com and check out our new website if you haven't already because our spring merch will be there.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I love it.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, speaking of spring, spring break, break up, spring break up.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, hi, Miss, spring break.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh, what?
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: What is that episode?
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I think it's friends.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: When it's like, remember when a break was a good thing?
- 6:16[SPEAKER_01]: I might be misquoting.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: So if any of you out there know where that's from, someone does.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: But in this case, could be perceived as a good thing depending on the breakup we're talking about.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: So, depending on your feeling on the couple, but yeah, we're talking about breakups.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, today we're talking about the breakups on Gilmore Girls, which there are a plenty of, they look to break up those Gilmore Girls.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: But it's interesting because Amy and I, of course, included season seven in this, I'm sure you did too.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: Amy writes a breakup real, real well.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because the door is almost always cracked open a little bit without feeling like it's open ended.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: It feels finalized, but you realize like in the aftermath that there's room and also some of these breakups are, I don't want to say unspoken, but unseen.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: I put unexplained.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: Hmm, unexplained is a really good way to go.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_01]: Because it kind of just pears off.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think that there's a couple of them that I would know sparkly heart that the door is open.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: Oh for sure, not all of them, but there are a lot of ways in which you think the door is closed.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_01]: And then all of a sudden you're like, and she said, it's a Dutch door, the top open.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: It was not really a Dutch door.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: And then she said, it's a Dutch door.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_01]: So true, so true.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: So I want to go through these two kind of
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: decide figure out crown one of these breakups the most memorable break-up of Gilmore girls you they'll get a crown it's an assassination prize for Kirk made this out.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: Kirk made a sack just as break-up.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: You're broken.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_01]: Because I didn't know how to freeze this.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_00]: I was like best breakup, you know, like we're like worst breakup But like some of them are like worse than others, but I wouldn't constitute it like the worst breakup like in like a memorable or Like we're in like ranking them the height like I don't yeah I don't know what the accolade here is like best worst most memorable.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: I think like even heart breaking isn't right either
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: because I think depending on who your affection gravitates towards the most in the show, it could change like what's heartbreaking for you and not.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: Some of them you're probably like cheering them on, depending on like what team you're on.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: So I think from like maybe like a writing perspective, like what was most memorable, perhaps notable, most notable, even that?
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: I don't
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: No, we're gonna give it a word a superlative.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: We're not quite sure what it is.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe we'll figure out as we go along.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe, maybe, let's say.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: I would love to go through them chronologically in sort of the same way we did with cold opens, because I think that's what we, that's ultimately where we landed on how to figure this out.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's like we went season by season, kind of pulled out the most notable
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, and I also want to know what our besties think.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: I did put up a question box, and I asked them what they thought the most memorable breakup of Gilmore Girls was, I'm excited to share that information with you today.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: I know every single one of them, but I do want to take the ones that were most highly noted and put them in a poll and see where people land.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, you know.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: Let's just call it memorable, because like, regard those of if you like were rooting for it is a memorable moment.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: I think that that one fits.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: And it's also such a testament to the way that Amy writes relationships and the way that Gilmore rolls presents relationships and the complexities that exist within them.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, most of them.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but that the break-ups themselves also reflect that because we have talked about break-ups on the show, but we've never talked about them in isolation.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: We've talked about the relationships on the show, beginning middle and end, but it wasn't until I went through all of these that I was like, oh my gosh.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: Like, there's so many varying degrees of breakups on the show.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: Some of them feel monumental, maybe that's it.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: Monumental, the most monumental breakup on Gilmore girls.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: You know, right?
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: After we could run a word, we didn't do another word.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yay!
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: The game were to say, wait.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: That's very, that's very on brand.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: So like I said, I think we should go through each season, talk about the breakups, pull one out that we both agree was the most notable, the most monumental, like the deepest, lasting impression on us as an audience.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_00]: And you're going there?
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: Would like to add a little unprepared caveat of like, which one would you be most devastated by if you were in that relationship?
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: Wow, I think that would be quite fun because I think it'd be different than what's the most memorable.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: Some of them I'm like, okay
- 10:38[SPEAKER_01]: I know, I know you're so right.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_00]: Other of them, I'm like, well, wow, I don't want to be here.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: That actually changes things for me.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: See, that's what I was saying when I was prepping this.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, some of them, I was like, okay, whatever.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: But I was like, this is very monumental in the show.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_00]: But like, I'm kind of like, but then there's other ones that are quite subtle that I'm like, oh, I would be on the bathroom floor.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: Totally.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: Totally.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: Or just being there.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, maybe I just need to be there.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe I just be there.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think maybe I'm just there.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_01]: Let's dive in.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: So starting with season one, let's go back to the beginning.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go back.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: The first one on my list, Max and Laura lie in Paris is burning.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's the first one.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's really the first breakup, right?
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: The entire series?
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's like the only one that makes sense because no one's like together in any way.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, not really.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we're in Dean or together, but they haven't broken up.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, yeah, very soon.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: But I really love this breakup because this is actually the first one I thought of when you were like, which one would you be devastated by?
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: Because I think I would be a pawn reflection upon watching this breakup again today because I went through all of these and watch that as you do.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think I would be the most devastated, or this would devastate me if I were in lower-rise position.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: I understand why she was devastated because first of all, I love this breakup from a writing perspective because they parallel it and kind of bring it full circle with the fact that this is the coffee shop where Max and Laura like decided that they were going to start dating in cinnamon's wake episode five.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_01]: And so to kind of bring it full circle and
- 12:20[SPEAKER_01]: huge uproar at the school.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because Laura, I behaved quite petulantly if I if I can put a word to it, she freaked out, she panicked, and she just decides to break up with this guy.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_01]: Her daughter's teacher,
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: In the middle of parents day, and then they start making out in the classroom, C-17, and C-17, one of the students sees them, not just anybody, but her daughter's literal nemesis sees them and tells the entire school about it, and humiliates her daughter, so that the heat gets off of Paris.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_01]: Then, she's sitting there, Laura, like, realizing, like, what did I just do?
- 13:06[SPEAKER_01]: And she comes to kind of this realization with her mother, her mother, who's like scolding her, her mother, who she has like a very, very stressed relationship with.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_01]: And then she goes to like a apologize to him and basically be like, I'm so sorry, I freaked out and here's what happened.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_01]: And he says, I think we need to take some space for me to other.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I would feel awful.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_01]: All of those things piling on top of it because it's not just isolated to the breakup between Loreline Max.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's everything around it.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_01]: He's a great guy.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_01]: They really like each other.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: Things were going really well.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: At the beginning of that episode, she's sitting on his counter, eating his leftovers, and like the two of them seem so in sync.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: And by the end of the episode, she's crying in her bed because she lost this really great guy because she freaked out and did something rash and like I said, a little petulant instead of facing her feelings, embracing them and confronting the situation in an emotionally mature fashion and we've all been there.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_01]: But like that has to be, I would be riddled with regret if I were lower life.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think that I would react the same way that she does, where it's like, you have to understand to some extent that like all of the things that led up to this were like completely you.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like it was what Suki was saying when she was in the kitchen that like, this is when she bolts like this is like a her pattern that's what she does.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and so she was acting upon that and then when she realized that was how she wanted to respond to this guy, he was kind of like, I think that we should take some time apart.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: And it's hard when you're like feeling a certain way about something and then you're confronted with it like she is was sukey and you're like, no, no, that's this is this is how I actually feel right now and then you kind of are realizing that you will lose it, not at your own hand, but because of your own actions, it's like, oh, wow, I really can't do anything about this because I was the one who made him feel this way.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_01]: And he says to her as much in the classroom, he's like, you're breaking up with me.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_01]: Not only are you breaking up with me, but you're breaking up with me really badly right now.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, we love it and she grew.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, thank you.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for your feedback so much.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_01]: But what's really sad about it is that like, Laura, like, acted rashly.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_01]: Broke up with him badly.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: Realize she didn't want to be breaking up with him.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I really do think when she walks into that coffee shop, she's coming into a being like, kind of her man angle of like, I freaked out.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm so sorry.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, my bad.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_01]: Let's move on.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's what she's expecting.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to happen.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_01]: Is that she's a accountability and she's like, okay, we're, we're just going to move on.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_01]: And she doesn't protest when he says, like, I think we should take some time.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_01]: She doesn't freak out.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: She's not, you know, like, no, a sob and crying mess in front of him.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, oh, okay, you know, she respects it, but I do think she's surprised by it.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I do think that that's where the devastation comes from.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because like he's he's right.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_00]: Like I think he is doing the right thing.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like her thinking that it's like, oh, he He ha ha I'm a sub.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_01]: She does come in joking, which is so lore lie of her.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: That's a lie lie in up an emotional situation.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe a really serious situation.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: And
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: by being like, hey, I want to buy a copy of Bruce, you know, she's trying to kind of like light in the mood.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: Totally understandable.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's my girl.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, I will say, I'm not like always a max fan, but I do love like love that about him that he's like, no, he should take some time.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and it does come from the repercussions of his job.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_01]: You know, headmaster Charles and pulls him into the office and it's like, hey, um, hey, this was bad.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, so I think that that also played a role in their taking some time apart.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_01]: And they ended by being like, you know, I really, really like you.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_01]: I really, really like you, too.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_01]: And then he says goodbye.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: And you could tell that like she doesn't want to say goodbye to him.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's really, really.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm just going to blame.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_01]: Is herself.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_01]: And that is some of the worst residual feeling you could have after a breakup is like, if I had done, because we're all already doing that after a breakup, if we're feeling blindsided, right, or if we're feeling like we didn't want the relationship to end.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_01]: At least I do.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_01]: I go back into the crevices of every single thing that's ever transpired between me and that person and I say, well, if I just done this differently, if I just done that differently.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_01]: And she's got to do it tenfold because it truly is her doing that this relationship unraveled the way that it did because a couple nights ago, a couple weeks ago, whenever this episode started, things were fantastic between the two of them and it didn't have to be like this.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think for me, like the way that I process things, that one feels easier to me to be like, I did this.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like, the steps that I took to ruin this, like it was me.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and he reacted to that.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I totally understand that.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's oftentimes when like the other person gives like no explanation, because not to like jump ahead of like breakups that happen between them, but when we fast forward
- 18:05[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like on Max's in, I feel more devastated about that, like if I could be lower layer max, because it's like, we were literally, I was bringing something to your house, and we were, we were getting married, and then you were like, done totally.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_00]: Go on a road trip with your daughter.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like, the max end of that, like, I'm spiraling over that, totally more so than.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: him leaving her because that feels like like the door still open a chapter is closing but like with the leaving during the engagement right before the wedding it's like oh yeah no no we're open totally no explanation I'm sending it your front door if this was 2025 I'd be looking into your ring doorbell being like hey
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think as an audience, we don't really get a lot of closure there and we can talk about it more when we get to season three because they do have a conversation that does feel not like a resolution, but a little bit, a little bit more of a resolution than we may be got in season two.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_01]: But we'll get there.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: The one thing I want to note before we move on from like part one of Laura Lyamax's break up is one of our besties said this moment was one of the most monumental or the most monumental, the most memorable because they said epic amount of wallowing and
- 19:13[SPEAKER_01]: And I totally agree because this break up set up a lot of Laurel-ly storyline and we've talked about the fact that Laurel-ly's love interest storyline is a little all over the place in season one after this happens Paris is burning we get Christopher returns
- 19:31[SPEAKER_01]: we get Luke and Laura Lye, you know, we get a lot of different kind of teasers into Laura Lye's romantic life and admittedly like a lot of foreshadowing into what's to come for the rest of the series.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think that this breakup and the choices that Laura Lye made cultivated a lot of pining for her in regards to Max and where they're taking, where the writers
- 19:57[SPEAKER_01]: the season and her romantic relationship to ultimately get engaged to him by the end.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, of the season.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I maybe that's why it doesn't feel as intense to me because they do go back together.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: You know that they're getting back together.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, fair.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_00]: Because like it it is like we've talked about and get more visited.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's Max.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's briefly Luke.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: We're like trying to figure out because there's a chicken in her house and yeah.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_00]: Donnery.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_00]: No one is quite sure if she's serious except for Lorelie.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_00]: Then Christopher returns.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.
- 20:29[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, we come back from Christopher Terns and now it's Max again.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_01]: I know and that happens truly back to back.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_01]: Donna Reed is episode 14.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_01]: Christopher returns his episode 15 and star crosses episode 16.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_01]: This was episode 11.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_01]: So it's like, oh boom, episode 12 is double date.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of like, wow, you know, we're going to ruin the fuck off again.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_01]: Break up ruin.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's, it's a lot of jerking around when it comes to lower life's love life.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_01]: So I understand why this might not feel as monumental and it didn't to me until I rewatched it.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_01]: And I went, oh, and then I read what our best use were saying.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: And,
- 21:10[SPEAKER_01]: one of our besties kind of encapsulated it perfectly by saying there's an epic amount of wallowing and pining that came from this breakup and that is true.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_00]: I agreed.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_01]: Next up, up famously.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_01]: Next up, breakup.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_01]: Next up, breakup.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_01]: Marie and Dean, the first one in Star Cross Lovers and other strangers, which when we decided we were doing this and we were trying to get to the bottom of what was the most notable memorable
- 21:32[SPEAKER_01]: break up, monumental, break up of Gilmore Girls's first thing that came to mind.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_00]: That one's really high.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: High up on the list.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_01]: So sad, so infuriating, so high school.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: So high school.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I had to look at this one from the perspective of them being in that moment.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: Because like, as adults are kind of like, okay.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, no, at the 16-year-old, this would fucking wreck me.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, absolutely, from both ends.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_00]: Like, yes, from Dean's perspective and from Maurice's perspective.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely, Dean's perspective not to defend this man that we actually hate most of the time.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_00]: We have to think about the fact that like he said, I love you and then the whole town hates him.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: The local diner owner tries to fight him in the street.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, what what happened?
- 22:21[SPEAKER_00]: I said I love you.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_00]: I made her a car and she didn't say it back.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_00]: So we broke up.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_01]: And now I don't know what he deemed does endure a lot.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_01]: Now I like just isolating the breakup conversation.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_01]: That's where I like kind of know.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_00]: That was fair.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_00]: I have no defense because he's quite mean.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_01]: but the bigger picture of him saying I love you, her not being able to say it back for reasons that exist in, you know, while I was watching this, we've been talking about doing like script analysis episodes where we really like line by line go through specific scenes that were.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_01]: super monumental to this series and this is one of them.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: The back and forth between Dean and Lori specifically from Lori and her perspective on why she feels like she can't just immediately say I love you is so fascinating, especially this early on in the series.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's also one of the few times we get the Lori Gilmore exposition of her
- 23:18[SPEAKER_01]: emotion.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like the a peek into what's going on in her mind.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_00]: We so rarely get that.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_00]: You're so right.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_00]: And in that moment, she kind of gives some vague explanation as to why this isn't the way that she thought this would go.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_00]: But I think that that one is like in terms of monumental in terms of memorable, that one is really high up there.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_00]: Not that the, I think the max in
- 23:47[SPEAKER_00]: But I think in terms of the show, no, no, no, he's wearing break up and it's just like it has to be that one.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: I totally agree.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_01]: Unfortunately.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_01]: And it really, I think also even though what our best you said about, you know, the Max and Laura live break up being an epic amount of wallowing and pining like emanating from it and really carries us through at least the back half of season one when it comes to Laura lie in the beginning parts of season two.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_01]: This one really, really carries out
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: into the next episode when the diner owner is like you can't come inside and the whole town is like I hate that guy You know the break apart to it literally has a second a whole episode dedicated to the actual break of itself So I think we've got to crown this one the most monumental of season one for sure Yeah, the only other one that I had from season one was in love days these intributors Rachel and Luke
- 24:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we talked, we did talk about Rachel fair about in the other women-of-gambo girls.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_00]: The non-blonde of the blondes, if you will, the on-bray.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_00]: So we don't need to touch too much on it because we just talked about it.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_00]: I just like, I kind of respect her for being like, you clearly like someone else.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go jump off on the other side.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_00]: So whenever it was, I was actually doing.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: I agree.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I think I just like respect her.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_00]: I do actually execution of it, felt like a strange stage play.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: Don't wait too long, Luke.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_00]: I forget the exact wording that she uses, but it's like, it really does feel like we're sitting on 45th Street watching play.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I, yeah, for sure, for sure.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_01]: We talk about that in revisited in Love Daisy's Intributors.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: But I, yeah, I just respect Rachel for it, honestly.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_00]: I totally agree because Luke was never, Luke would never have.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think Luke respected Rachel too much to sure be like, hey, I like this other girl, which in turn is kind of disrespectful.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: It is disrespectful, but I also think he's just he's a guy who gets comfortable.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think he would have stayed comfortable with Rachel.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_01]: She, no, she was always going to have to be the one to walk away.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I'm glad she did.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_00]: Great job, Rachel.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: Great job.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_00]: Best break up.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_00]: Rachel.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_01]: Worst break up.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_01]: Dean.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_01]: So moving into season two and keeping with the conversation we were having before about Max and Laura Lye, I think part two of their breakup, which is their true and honest breakup, even though again, this is one of the ones I will say, they break up.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, okay, I guess it's over because it's seem so faint.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_01]: And then it comes to a grounded season three and wait a second, hold on, wait, wait, wait.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, because I would not like his open ended, it's just more of like that one, they could run into each other again in the future.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I wonder if that's why they did that.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_01]: If they crafted it that way because they were like, well, it's over.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_01]: But we like to leave a little bit of room, like the door's closing.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I'm working next season.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_01]: What do you see?
- 26:40[SPEAKER_00]: We have to call him.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_01]: If we call Scott next season, we keep talking about calling Scott Cohen.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about it last week, talking about this week.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, as we talked about calling him because of the, the return of Jezebel James.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh, it's like given him a phone call every week.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_01]: We just have got to call Scott Cohen.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_00]: Someone gets caught on the lines.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_00]: Somebody gets caught on the line.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_00]: Somebody call Max.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: Max Medita.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_00]: Max Medita.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_00]: Max Medita.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_00]: Max Medita.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_00]: Max Medita.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_00]: We'd get his voicemail.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_00]: It's true.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_00]: But that's funny.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_00]: I did not remember wanting to call.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's got to go in the second time.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_00]: We'll call him again next week.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: Why we don't know yet.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_00]: We'll have to call him.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_00]: The break up.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's just, it's so unexplained from a Max and Lorelei perspective, but it is explained from Lorelei to Rory via Lorelei.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I didn't want to try my dress.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's just giving that like, this wasn't right.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_00]: Oddly, this is not my parent's marriage.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_00]: What I understood from that was like, I'm not going to be with this guy for 40 years.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't want to be with him for 40 years.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to try my wedding dress for this guy.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_00]: And that's heartbreaking.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_00]: It is.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_00]: That's hard.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think if I'm Max in that situation, I'm in a spiral.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, I'm going to move to California because I don't want to accidentally run into this woman.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_00]: But from a lower life perspective, it's quite strong recognizing that and stopping it.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's the Rachel of being like, I don't want my life to go this way and to force us to do that for decorum's sake for the etiquette of I've already invited everyone to our wedding is wrong.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_00]: Especially when we get in partings when she's talking to Jan from the office, Carolyn, Lenny for those in the know, and she's like, I don't, I didn't really love Max.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_00]: And so like to have that much reflection on some someone you almost married is like, well, okay, you made the right decision, but still pretty monumental in this season.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_00]: I totally agree.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: This one I have as, I think, a breakup for our girl because even though they say it's not a breakup in the conversation, I consider lane and Henry in the test.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_01]: No, I think it's a good, a breakup.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_00]: Like, honestly, one of the hardest breakups.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_00]: And honestly, in the whole series and I'm not even, I'm not even being hyperbolic about that because he calls her and tells her he's taking someone else to prom because he can't do this, but he still likes her.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_00]: And the fact that he was already doing this when they had this plan, like this is already established.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_00]: This didn't happen in the last 45 minutes that Henry is telling her that he's taking someone out to his prom.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_01]: Totally.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_00]: He had already had this while he was trying to be with Lane.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: Recognizing it was hard not knowing like how to do that because he's a teenage boy But like the lane and if that is like Lane was trying so hard to be with this guy She lied to her mom.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_00]: She had to set up this whole plan like all of the ways that she had to be with him Had to be so strategically placed in her life and for her to have that all crumbling down and her mom still to find out and her still to get grounded
- 29:37[SPEAKER_00]: Well, heartbroken and her mom not really like acquiescing it all to that that like when she learns that Henry like was honestly the ideal partner that Mrs. Kim would have set him up with like even still that didn't change her mind on anything that was going on.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_00]: It was because Lane lied to her and like it's totally understandable, but it was a very extreme the way that she goes to it, but like if I'm Lane, I'm sick.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sick.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_00]: Like this is so like Henry did not mean to be as harsh as he did.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_00]: He's a teenage boy.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_00]: He was kind of careless with the way this happened.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_00]: I can't agree hard on him.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_00]: But I can also hate him.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, absolutely.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_01]: I think that that is core.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: He was a really nice guy.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_01]: When you hear, and they did this intentionally within the dialogue, when you hear Lane going through all of the things that this boy has to do.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_01]: This 16, 17 year old boy has to do just to go on a date with her, the decoy cousin driving, honking twice, driving around, coming back again.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_01]: calling the payphone.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's a lot and so like you feel for him in that regard and when he says to her like I just I want to she goes are you breaking up with me?
- 30:43[SPEAKER_01]: He goes how can I break up with you?
- 30:45[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't even been out with you and it does feel like yeah Of course that is a little silly to think of this guy as you're a quote-unquote boyfriend or a guy that you're dating because you haven't even been out on a date But it's really not until he says to her like I have prom coming up
- 30:59[SPEAKER_01]: And I want to go and I want to take a deed.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, OK, well, I can't arrange something.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_01]: And he says, I've already asked someone else.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: That's the breakup.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that's not the standard.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_01]: That moment that it's like, oh, this is a breakup.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you've already asked somebody else to the prom.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_00]: I feel sick.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I feel sick over that, as Lane.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_00]: Because this, like I said, this has like history to it,
- 31:27[SPEAKER_00]: Like this way.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_00]: As much as Lane was planning to see him and to be with this guy, she really liked him.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_00]: He was on the other end being like, this is too hard.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_00]: Like, he can't make this effort.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_00]: And like, it is a lot to ask him to make it, but never fear of Lane.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_00]: Never fear?
- 31:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we have Debra Galski coming in.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's a three for her, which is amazing.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_01]: But what I will say, speaking to our Laura Lion Lane episode that we did earlier this month,
- 31:52[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's crossing my mind now that they're like in these scenarios that we've talked about specifically with the max break up in season one and this break up for lane and season two with Henry.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's a little soft sabotage because there are mistakes that were made on their end regardless of the reasons.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_01]: You know, when I criticize lower life for being.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_01]: and a little petulant in her breakup with Max, that comes from anxiety with her daughter, you know, a lot of what we actually just talked about with Anna and Ardini and her, you know, kind of trying to protect her daughter, and not introducing her to men in her life for apparently even her own father and her father's fiancé, you know, but...
- 32:33[SPEAKER_01]: Laura, like, followed suit in that same regard as a single mom where she was like, I never want Rory to get to attached him, Lori said your name.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_01]: She's never said someone's name before and that freaked me out.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's there.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_01]: There are reasons there for sure.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_01]: Same with Lane.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_01]: There are reasons why Lane doesn't tell her mom stuff because of the, you know, dynamic that's been set up there.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_01]: But we got to call it spade.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_01]: There were choices that were made along the way by Lane that led to this.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_01]: And so her grieving
- 33:00[SPEAKER_01]: In her bedroom upstairs when Mrs. Kim comes in, she's trying to talk to her and say, I know it's best for you and she's getting scolded, she's getting grounded.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of the grief that she's experiencing, she says so much when her mom is like, wait, he was Korean, she's like he was perfect and he was going to be a doctor.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_01]: And I didn't tell you about him and I don't know why because she could have told her mother about him.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it would have given her the egg for Henry, if I'm being honest.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_00]: I know, the moment that she says is much, right?
- 33:25[SPEAKER_00]: I can't remember exactly, but it's like, I think she kind of says that she's like, if that would like to see what it is.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, that I'll find him repulsive.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the only difference that I feel between the lane and the lower line where it doesn't quite fit is that like, lane is really trying.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_00]: Lane is really wanting to make this work.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_00]: Lane is self-sabotaging in in a direction that's like, she knows this can't pan out.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_00]: She knows that this is not like something that can last.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_00]: She can't keep up this charade for this long, eventually her mom will find out.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_00]: But she's trying so hard to be with this guy because she likes him so much, but Henry is not going to make the same effort.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_00]: He's never going to be all in in the way that she is in the way that like I love to parallel Henry and Dave.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_00]: Of course.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_00]: And he was willing to do it.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_00]: And like that's really, that's the real difference.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_01]: And
- 34:13[SPEAKER_01]: they were the same age.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_01]: I do think though there is a certain degree where it's like Lane, yeah, she's willing to do everything she can to see this guy, accept tell her mother.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: Like, and that is the precedent that Mrs. Kim is said, you know, I'm not saying it doesn't make sense, but it's like she's willing to do every single thing, accept tell her mother, which actually in turn would make things a lot easier.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_00]: It would make things easier for Mrs. Kim and like head-to-head maybe.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_01]: It would make things easier in the sense that she wouldn't have to hide her relationship or that she likes this guy.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_01]: You know, would it put a different pressure on it?
- 34:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the same reason why Laura Light doesn't share a lot of her relationships with her own mother because then there's a pressure that's put on it.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you could say that about anybody who's like kind of loosely seeing someone they really like them and they're like, okay,
- 35:00[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like tell my friends, tell my parents a second that I do that, it becomes serious, and then they're gonna ask questions, and then if I bring them to a family event, and what if we break up, and then people are gonna ask questions, and it's, you know, you spiral, and I could see Lane being the kind of person that would also, that also went through that when it came to Henry.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_01]: She was like, if I tell my mother, then if I tell my mother, my mother's gonna come on my dates with me.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_00]: Correct.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, I think that, yeah, I can't remember exactly what she says, but there is like a he's perfect.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I would hate it if my mom knew.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, sort of thing.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_00]: I wish I could remember exactly what it was that she says.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, yeah, science.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_00]: I'm, I'm falling for a guy, my mother would approve of.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's in the breakup part two when they're, yeah, Maddie House.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Lisa House?
- 35:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's Maddie House.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that one really, that one's hard for me.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_00]: Like that one as a teenager and kind of an adult.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_00]: It feels sick.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_00]: Harbricking.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_00]: Bricking.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_00]: Totally agree.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's also that thing of like, I haven't even taken that new one.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_00]: You want to date.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_00]: How can we break up?
- 35:57[SPEAKER_00]: Hmm.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, yeah, but you're telling me you're not going to put forth any more effort.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_00]: You're done.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and we are something yeah, or something that is the worst when you don't have a definition on a relationship and then it See you feel dumb for feeling bad because yes, it doesn't even have a label on it.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_00]: Why do I feel so bad?
- 36:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think as you feelings because you're feeling this person meant something even if there was no label It's almost worse because you're like, oh, I have all these feelings and you have none.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah You're going to promise someone else and meanwhile I'm sick and bed and can't leave the house actually because now we're on it Yeah, oh
- 36:32[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, the last breakup I have for season two.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_01]: We're all in Christopher.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_01]: Ugh.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_01]: Arguably the worst.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_01]: Arguably the worst that just keeps getting worse.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't even like a true breakup.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_01]: It was like we've decided that we're gonna do this.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_01]: And then you'll have to break up with me.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_01]: You just came and told me Sherry was pregnant and that you were leaving.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: You get, you came and told me you're taking someone else to prom.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_01]: Literally like I have to go.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_01]: What do you mean?
- 37:00[SPEAKER_01]: Sherry's back.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, so you're gonna tell her.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't even tell.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't even really tell her.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_00]: No, she's kind of the one that has to be like, well, put all the pieces together.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you gotta go.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_01]: You have to, you have to go my friend.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_01]: And then, and then he has the audacity and haunted leg to be like, please talk to me to show off a friend and I dinner to be like, I didn't want it to happen this way.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, well, if fucking happened this way.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_01]: grow up.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_01]: We're done.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_01]: Are you going to marry her?
- 37:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_01]: Then honey, we are where we are, except it.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_00]: That breakup feels like several episodes long because it starts, I mean, it starts in the episode before or is it in that episode when Chris shows up?
- 37:39[SPEAKER_01]: I don't remember if they mention, actually, I've seen before.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_01]: She plays, it's a lazy, he's a crazy, so it's a can't get started, lazy, he's a crazy, crazy days of summer.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_00]: No, what's that episode before I can't get started?
- 37:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's
- 37:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because he sends her like the basket and then like he comes to the end and they're like getting together.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_00]: But like that breakup feels like the moment that the episode starts.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_00]: The moment they start getting together feels like the breakup.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like it just feels like it goes from there to lazy, hazy, to haunted leg.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like it just feels like it's like expanding.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_00]: And then by the time we get to cherry having her baby, like it feels like we just like can't stop breaking up.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_00]: with this man like even at the baby shower like every like it's just like constantly taking hits from this relationship that had 20 minutes.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_00]: of like real time between us before everything just crash and burn.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_00]: I told my parents about this.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's the worst part.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's really where Lane and Laura like kind of parallel there is like, I told my parents about this and they're into this and they like this.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_01]: And they're rooting for this.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_01]: They're mad at me because this isn't working out.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_01]: They're blaming me.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_01]: They're blaming me because this isn't working out.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_00]: And you come up.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_00]: Thank God you showed up and showed your ass here at my mom's house.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_00]: And she made you leave because I don't, I think that they would have continued to be like, yeah, this was on Laurel I.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_00]: Until Chris showed up and he was like, I want to talk to you.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, are you actually still having a baby?
- 39:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, are you still marrying her?
- 39:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_00]: Then we are what we are.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_00]: And like Emily hearing that and like, I think God.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure that.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know, the moment the moment she really steps in is when Laurel I says like standing here right now is killing me.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_01]: Don't you understand?
- 39:19[SPEAKER_01]: It hurts.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_01]: And like, oh, I've never even really thought about it that way before that like she hears that her daughter is in so much pain just standing there talking to him from this man that she's in Kahut's way.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and then she's like, you need to leave right now.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that makes me want to come back in moments.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I know it.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_00]: Excuse me.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_00]: We can just play that scene on a loop from other day.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so of all of the the three breakups that we talk about in season two, which do you think is the most monumental from that season?
- 39:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's probably Chris and Borlai because I think that that even though like if we're isolating it to season two Chris and Borlai really spills in to season three, but I still feel like the end of that is just huge Yeah, huge because like I honestly think that that episode is the start of Dean and Worries break up.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yes for sure your face a little kiss
- 40:09[SPEAKER_00]: between not a little kiss.
- 40:12[SPEAKER_00]: It would be a little short.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_01]: It was a little short.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_00]: You were like, that's all it.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_00]: It was big.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_01]: It was big for me.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_00]: I watched it on a loop.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_00]: Emotionally big.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_00]: Speaking of watch things on a loop.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_00]: But I do think it's the Chris and Laurel.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_00]: Interesting.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's the thing about the Max one.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_00]: Is it once they break up?
- 40:31[SPEAKER_00]: That's it.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_00]: Because we do get the ice cream maker that kind of no one knows about.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's debris.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_00]: There's like break-up debris throughout the season.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but it just doesn't feel like she's that upset about it.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_00]: It just kind of launches her into being more serious about the inn.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_00]: It launches her into feeling like she's finally kind of like in a better place with Chris.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_00]: Only for that to like kind of like push and pull throughout the season until it pushes and then he pushes really hard.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_00]: And like I want to say Max, but I think I'm
- 41:02[SPEAKER_01]: I just think, oh, it's really hard to compare these up against each other, because we're talking about the monumental moment of Lauraly deciding not to marry Max, especially immediately after sitting under the hoop opener, who is her, I know it's quite fascinating that we're comparing these two because it's her deciding to leave Max that she doesn't want to do this, and then it's Chris making no decision, but deciding not Lauraly, yes, like her
- 41:30[SPEAKER_01]: not rooted for necessarily maybe some people did but anticipated we have seen the building of it potentially well at the time like in season two or who's to say you know people might have been like yeah I really wanted to see Laura Lane Chris for at least give it a shot and we're teased but for just a moment until it all comes crashing down
- 41:52[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, this is really tough.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know both.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_00]: If we're making a list, I think I would toss them both on it because it's for different reasons.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_00]: It allows her to kind of like pursue other relationships.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_00]: But like it's really the decision of her not wanting to move forward in that direction with her life.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_00]: But the crisp part of it really sets up the conflict for three.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_00]: Totally.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that they're both monumental in their own way.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think that laying her it's really bad, but it's kind of secondary to
- 42:22[SPEAKER_01]: I totally agree with you.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_01]: All right, let's put them both on the list.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_01]: Amazing.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_01]: Moving into Season 3, I think we know what the bigger huna is.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_00]: And what is it?
- 42:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's Dean and Murray breaking up, and they shoot Gilmour Snow Day.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's Dean breaking up with Murray.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's Dean literally, I mean, iconic, and iconic break-up.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_00]: Iconic, and yet, why is it happening at 5.30 in the morning?
- 42:45[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's really hard to watch.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_01]: Like, even if you were a team jask early, and you were rooting for Jess and Murray to get together.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you're just waiting for Dean and Murray to break up so that there is room, and the road has been paved for Jess and Murray to get together, however,
- 42:58[SPEAKER_01]: It is so difficult to watch because you're like, oh, he's not wrong, but he is yelling at her.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_00]: He's not wrong, but he's going about it the wrong way.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, he's interesting because it's so damn obvious.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's a thing.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_01]: Is that like, this is freaking me in.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_01]: Whoa, catching strays over here.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think though that it is kind of interesting that this is written to be almost a double breakup and the start of relationship because as Dean is breaking up with Rory, Jess is breaking up with Shane.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's like, all right, we're done and Shane doesn't even know yet.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_01]: I have to go take her something.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe, actually, I feel the worst unchanged path here.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's five thirty in the morning, and I'm here watching the girl, and I guess my will, I didn't even get here.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_00]: Why would I want to be here at five thirty a month?
- 43:50[SPEAKER_00]: Eating an eggless egg sandwich?
- 43:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, exactly.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_00]: Watching the girl who is like mean to me at my place of work, be broken up with by her boyfriend and her boyfriend.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_00]: Now, ex-boyfriend is yelling at me because my maybe boyfriend kind of situation
- 44:06[SPEAKER_00]: I would like to be asleep.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, how much should I be asleep?
- 44:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I've, like, will always write hard for Shane.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that was a hard, that was a hard night.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_00]: It was a hard morning for her.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, it's a double breakup.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that that one is just so monumental.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's in, like, the 50th episode of...
- 44:23[SPEAKER_00]: The series, it's something we've been deeply anticipating, is Jess and we're getting together, Dean and Marie breaking up, that like tension finally exploding in a way that it's rather explosive.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_00]: And we ranked it the number one episode of the series.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_00]: So like having this be there, it feels like quite monumental.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_00]: I completely agree.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_00]: I honestly don't think any breakups compare to it.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like, in terms of execution, in terms of execution, because this is like a definitive, we are broken up.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_01]: He says to her, I'm not her boyfriend anymore.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_01]: That's how she starts it.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_01]: She can't.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not her boyfriend anymore.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_00]: And you're like, what?
- 45:05[SPEAKER_00]: And then like, speaking of execution, maybe Shane is gone.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_00]: I got to go take care of something.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_00]: He never said that.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_01]: The double meaning of the word execution.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's all mafia.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_00]: Just saying.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_01]: Which speaking of Star's Hall of Mafia, what I love about this scene and the writing of it and the execution of it is that it ends with the comedic button that is Amy Sherman Paladino signature.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_01]: where Dean says, like, I'm out, grabs his coat, walks away.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_01]: Jess and Shane are sitting there, mounts open.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_01]: And the camera pans to Taylor Doughsee, who's punch drunk, and is staring at Marie Gilmore, who truly is humiliated, bewildered, shocked, like, has no idea what to do with this show.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_01]: And he says, excuse me, um, young lady, who's name I can't remember right now.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't see a yellow card.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_01]: I don't see a yellow card.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_01]: we're just walks away.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_00]: But like the implication that they lost the dance marathon because Rory and Gabby broke up is hilarious.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_00]: Objectively hilarious.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_00]: That like Kirk won by default because of their relationship.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_01]: Totally.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like if I'm sorry, I'd be like you only won because Dean broke up with Rory.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_01]: I would throw that out.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_01]: I would definitely throw that out.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_00]: Or like, I'll have someone to throw it out to Kirk.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because he's so he's he's gloomy.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_00]: Glowing time.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I would I would love to have someone be like, oh, it's only because Dean broke up with worry.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_00]: Not because you were better.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_01]: He would crash out over that.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_00]: And I totally would have crashed out of it.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_00]: Monato.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_00]: The monumental double break up over the execution.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_00]: This is breakup.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_01]: But this is another one where it's just like, OK, it feels like we're done for me to go over.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_00]: We are.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, should we have been?
- 46:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_01]: It does spill over into the next episode because Jess and Rory, of course, get together and let the games begin.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_01]: But Rory does end her kiss her first like true kiss with Jess.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you see, you're erasing the first original true kiss?
- 47:12[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, with her boyfriend.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_01]: Her first true or in a relationship like this is marking the beginning of of Jess and Rory to go and really finalize the breakup with Dean.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_00]: What's quite interesting about that trio of episodes is like, it kind of drags out the love triangle, if you will, of Jess and Dean and Rory, and then the next one, it's Rory going to Dean, and then in the next episode, it's Dean coming to Jess, and it's like, it really drags that out, and then like after that, it's kind of done until they fight and kick Max after the carnival rather.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_01]: And then, yeah, Kegbax, which, speaking of, that's kind of the next territory where we get a little bit of, of breaking up, and this is where it becomes kind of ambiguous, because in the big one, we get the return of Max Medina.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_01]: and is he the big one?
- 48:13[SPEAKER_01]: Is he?
- 48:13[SPEAKER_01]: Who's to say?
- 48:15[SPEAKER_01]: But we get the return of Max Bajina.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_01]: He and Laura Lyron and Twitch other.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, he's back.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_01]: What is this about to be?
- 48:21[SPEAKER_01]: And they end up kissing.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, oh, when he says, I guess I'm not over it.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I guess I'm not over it.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_01]: Because
- 48:27[SPEAKER_01]: What I appreciate about their conversation, and I may have talked about this when we did our max episode many, many moons ago, is that he talks about like, you know, you didn't love me.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, no, I don't think I didn't love you, which then we hear partying reasons.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_00]: That is lovely.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_01]: She didn't love him.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_01]: She says, but we just we never got any closure.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_01]: And he said, well, life's not really about closure is it?
- 48:48[SPEAKER_01]: And it gives us kind of this insight to like Max's mentality surrounding this entire thing because he's a better man than any of us, I wouldn't see taking one look at her and walked away.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, or would have been like, yeah, give me my closure right now because I've been mulling over this for two seasons.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_01]: But it gives the audience a little bit of a semblance of closure when we then fast forward to Keg Max, where Lorela's been spiraling over this kiss.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_01]: Suki thinks that it was fake.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_01]: She thinks she had a dream about this kiss.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_01]: But Lora lies like, no, I'm like, where am I at?
- 49:24[SPEAKER_01]: I'm dating Alex, which that also is in unexplained and ambiguous.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_01]: I put under the unexplained category because he's just like, we're gonna go, we're gonna go.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_01]: She ends up chasing Max down essentially at the booster club meeting.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_01]: And they see each other in the classroom and there is kind of this definitive goodbye between the two of them.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_01]: So I kind of see that as the part three of their like true, okay.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe the closure.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_00]: The closure.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_00]: They are closure, but the breakup has long since.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, the breakup has long been gone, but gone done.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_01]: It happened.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_01]: Ship-a-sale.
- 50:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's in Aruba.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think that.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_00]: Very far from here.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think that Laura like pining over like, what does this mean?
- 50:13[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he was a great guy and you know, did I mess that up?
- 50:16[SPEAKER_01]: I do think it's like a potential revisiting.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_01]: I know they didn't get back together.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_00]: But I think it's more like residual from the Chris situation.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of what?
- 50:24[SPEAKER_00]: then if Max was kind of setting up for this Chris drama Chris ended up being nothing but drama she sees Max again and now she's kind of like whoa did I mess that up because that was the last good thing I had before Chris ruined things discounting Alex I guess because Alex was actually quite perfect for her and then he'd where did he go he's probably off seeing a Broadway show and running his coffee shop and oh yeah good for his kids sounds a fun guy I know
- 50:49[SPEAKER_00]: Alex, I hope that you live in the same town of Shane and Shane is very happy there with us.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_01]: All the characters that we never hear from again, or something like that.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_00]: I hope that Shane goes to Alex's coffee shop and she meets a nice patron of Alex's coffee shop.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_00]: That's my own fanfiction for Shane.
- 51:06[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I love that.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_01]: But speaking of kegmax, we also get the beginning of the end of Ranges.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_01]: And it's sad because, like, we don't actually have a true and honest breakup between the two of them, which I think is very much what hurts.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_01]: And if I'm boring, this is hurting me the most.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's quite fascinating because obviously they have some distance between them after kickbacks, but it's already kind of that he's very clear that he's lying to her, that what he's telling her about work and school, it's not accurate because we know from what Luke learns, that like what's happening there is not true.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_00]: So it's kind of planting these seeds of doubt, like especially when he gets her those tickets to the concert, like it's all
- 51:49[SPEAKER_00]: it's all kind of like building up to the breakup.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_00]: And almost like in an apathetic way, it's not like building tension in the same way that Dean and Rory and Jess were building tension at the beginning of three.
- 52:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of like this is all slowly.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_00]: The wheels are slowly coming off of this car.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_00]: Jess's car, if you will, because that seems like a car where the wheels would fall off.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_00]: And then when we get to that moment and she sees him in the back of the bus, that feels like they're break up.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's their breakup.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_00]: And she doesn't even know it.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think some part of her recognizes what's happening, but like I think that she doesn't realize that he's leaving for good.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think that there are like actual moment of like this is over.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_00]: We are broken up for real.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_00]: is on graduation day when he calls her and doesn't say anything, and she gets to say her piece, and she gets her version of closure, yes, and whatever she needs.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_01]: I, that's what I wrote.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_01]: I said those are strings is really the breakup conversation if any, but I will always, when I think of their breakup, I will think of that on the bus.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_01]: Always get her on the bus.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, which one, the Dean at Dance Marathon or the Jazz in the Bus?
- 52:58[SPEAKER_01]: Ugh, both monumental.
- 53:00[SPEAKER_00]: Both both.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_01]: We picked both for season two.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, maybe we're making a list of the most monumental breakups.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_01]: And to try and name just one.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so just to recap for these first three seasons.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_01]: Well, now that we're building a list, do we want to put the max and lower life breakup on there?
- 53:14[SPEAKER_01]: Or do we feel like it's just star cross lovers and other strangers?
- 53:17[SPEAKER_01]: Max, maybe like encapsulate max in the season two breakup.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_01]: Specifically.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I would say Max season two is a lot more monumental than Max season one.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, if we're going to include Max, I think that he gets his season two flowers.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_00]: Total great.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_01]: Or I guess he's in flowers and then we redacted them, we'll return his flowers.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_01]: We'll return the two, the thousand holidays.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_01]: The lower line Christopher break up, Conan quote, break up at the end of season two, Dean and worry at the dance marathon and Justin worry on the bus.
- 53:46[SPEAKER_00]: On the bus.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_00]: So sad.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_00]: See that one's so hard because it just kind of like fizzles out.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_00]: That's the one I would spiral about.
- 53:53[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I would say I would spiral so hard about that.
- 53:56[SPEAKER_00]: So I would feel bad about the Dean one.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_00]: But being called out, there's some sense of honesty to it that like I was a thing she immediately says.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_01]: He was right.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 54:05[SPEAKER_01]: Jess tries to be like, he's a jerk and she's like, no, he was right.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_01]: She even goes to him and she's like, you were right about everything and I'm really sorry about that.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know, she took ownership of it, but and then he immediately wants to be her friend.
- 54:16[SPEAKER_01]: So, but the Jess won, but Jess just leaving her.
- 54:21[SPEAKER_01]: Hmm, I would like a father, never recover.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_01]: No, I would have abandonment issues for forever.
- 54:27[SPEAKER_00]: And then the next time he sees her, I'm, please.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's shattered, shattered on the floor.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_00]: I would be so upset.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of people talk about how, like, where he doesn't process it and sees in four cushions and how anyone to talk to about it.
- 54:39[SPEAKER_00]: And I never understand why it's not like a huge point of her processing her breakup with Jess.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_00]: but it's really because we never see the inside of Roy's head.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_00]: I know, and I want to see her crash out over that.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_00]: I would have loved to.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_00]: We see her crash out over Logan, but like, as Logan Gerley, I do love that, but like I want her to crash out over the end of Jess, like come on.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_01]: The only insight we get into Roy is truly like the logical part of her reiterating to Jess White was wrong for him to leave her the way that he does.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_01]: She says, I think I may have loved you,
- 55:12[SPEAKER_01]: That doesn't really matter now and so like that's really the only perspective we get into her feelings Yeah, and I feel like the writers felt like that was enough to satisfy this like okay This is over.
- 55:24[SPEAKER_01]: This is the closure hang up the phone I wonder if they would have explored it explored it in Windward Circle.
- 55:30[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what the plan was there But I want Rory's perspective.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_01]: I want to know how Rory felt like
- 55:35[SPEAKER_01]: You know, that's what I mean.
- 55:36[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how much cross over there would have been with characters from Gilmore girls because it is like hard, though, because she's Went to Europe with her mom.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_00]: She's going to college.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_00]: Like a lot of things are changing.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_00]: I just think there could have been a feeling it too.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_00]: You know a little reflection or something But you everything has to surface the plot and where we're going.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and Laura my speaks to it in Ted Couples big night out when Emily says something Yeah, whatever happened to that hoodlum.
- 56:04[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, oh well
- 56:05[SPEAKER_00]: Jess, he's gone and Emily says like Emily says something to the effect of like how she doing and Laura says she's stoic like dad so yeah it does speak to the fact that like she's stoic but I also wish that I want to know and with that's what I need to talk to Mr. Dan Pelladino about Mr. Roy Gilmore of like what was the process of like deciding to externalize
- 56:32[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I need these are the questions that you've had and questions for the Palatino's.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_00]: The Palatino's plural, but yeah, I know that Dan has a strong association with Tori.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_01]: So we did seasons one through three.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like this is a two-part episode because we have a lot to say about seasons four through seven.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_01]: because they get like breakup heavy break up.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_00]: Like I feel like Hesons one through three years like break up late monumental.
- 56:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, very monumental breakups, but we get like more breakups as you as the season.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_01]: We can't stop breaking up and season four through something.
- 57:05[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll have more to say on that on the next episode.
