Transcript
- Lucas: Hey, welcome back to Learn Cantonese with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 171! Can you believe it? Lucas: I know. Last time we talked about oval and rectangle shapes. Today, we've got two more shapes that are really fun. Luna: Ooh, I love shapes. What are they? Lucas: Diamond and heart. In Cantonese, diamond is 菱形. Luna: 菱形. Lucas: Good. And heart is 心形. Luna: 心形. That one sounds like it could be romantic. Lucas: Exactly. 心 means heart, so 心形 is heart shape. Let's practice. Repeat after me: 菱形. Luna: 菱形. Lucas: 心形. Luna: 心形. Lucas: Great. Now let's use them in sentences. To say 'this is a diamond shape,' you say Lucas: And 'this is a heart shape' is 呢個係心形. Lucas: Perfect. So if I hold up a diamond-shaped object, I'd say Luna: Right. And if I see a heart-shaped cookie, I can say Lucas: Exactly. Or you could say 個心形好靚 — 'the heart shape is very pretty.' Oh, I like that. I'm going to use that for Valentine's Day. Lucas: Nice. Let's do a quick practice. I'll describe a shape, and you tell me which one it is. Ready? Luna: Ready. Lucas: It looks like a kite, with four equal sides. Luna: Umm... that's 菱形! Lucas: Yes! What about this one — it's the symbol for love. Luna: That's easy: 心形. Lucas: You got it. Now let's imagine we're at a gift shop. I see a diamond-shaped keychain. Luna: And I see a heart-shaped necklace. Lucas: Exactly. And if you want to compliment it, you add 好靚 — so 個心形好靚. That's a whole sentence. Lucas: Yeah. Can you try saying a sentence about a diamond shape you like? Luna: Hmm... Lucas: Beautiful. You just said 'the diamond shape is beautiful.' That works perfectly. Luna: Awesome. So we've got 菱形 and 心形, and sentences like 呢個係菱形 and 呢個係心形. Remember, you can replace 心形 with any shape you learn. Luna: Right. Lucas: Exactly. You know, if you've been enjoying these lessons and they've been helping you make progress with Cantonese, it really means a lot to us. Luna: Yeah. If today felt worth a coffee to you, there's a link — it's buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Lucas: Just a small way to keep the show ad-free and running. Thanks for even thinking about it. Luna: Okay, back to shapes. So we practiced diamond and heart. Can we try a quick quiz? Lucas: Sure. I'll say an English shape, you say it in Cantonese. Luna: Bring it on. Lucas: Diamond. Luna: 菱形. Lucas: Heart. Luna: 心形. Lucas: Perfect. Now say 'this is a diamond shape.' Lucas: And 'this is a heart shape.' Lucas: You nailed it. That's all for today. Practice these shapes, and we'll see you next time. Luna: Bye for now!
