- Lucas: Hey, welcome back to Learn Danish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode one hundred twenty nine — can you believe it? Lucas: I know, right? And if this show has been helping you make real progress with Danish, you know what? If today's episode was worth a coffee to you, you can support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. That's it, no pressure. Luna: Yeah, totally. It keeps us ad-free and lets us keep making these little lessons. Okay, so what are we learning today? Lucas: Today we're tackling ordinal numbers — first, second, third, fourth. In Danish: første, anden, tredje, fjerde. Luna: Oh, like when you're waiting in line or talking about floors in a building. I've needed those. Lucas: Exactly. Let's start with the most common one: første. First. Første. Luna: Første. Lucas: Good. Now, anden. Second. Anden. Luna: Anden. Lucas: Nice. Tredje. Third. Tredje. Luna: Tredje. That one's a bit tricky. Lucas: You got it. And fjerde. Fourth. Fjerde. Luna: Fjerde. Okay, I think I've got them. Let me try: første, anden, tredje, fjerde. Lucas: Perfect. Now let's put them in a tiny scene. Imagine you're at a bakery and there's a line. You're the fourth person. You could say 'Jeg er den fjerde i køen.' I am the fourth in line. Luna: Jeg er den fjerde i køen. So fjerde is fourth. Lucas: Yes. Now, what if you're the second? How would you say 'I am the second in line'? Luna: Jeg er den anden i køen? Lucas: Exactly. And the first? Jeg er den første i køen. Luna: Jeg er den første i køen. What about third? Lucas: Jeg er den tredje i køen. Luna: Jeg er den tredje i køen. So 'den' is like 'the' before an ordinal? Lucas: Right. When you say 'the first', it's 'den første'. Good catch. Let's practice all four again. Repeat after me: den første. Luna: Den første. Lucas: Den anden. Luna: Den anden. Lucas: Den tredje. Luna: Den tredje. Lucas: Den fjerde. Luna: Den fjerde. Awesome. So if I'm at the doctor's office and they call my name, I can say 'Jeg er den tredje' if I'm third. Lucas: Exactly. Or if someone asks 'Hvem er først?' — who is first? — you can say 'Jeg er først.' Luna: Jeg er først. No 'den' there? Lucas: No, without 'den' it's more like 'I'm first' as a title. But with 'den' it's specific: 'the first one'. Both are common. Let's try a quick dialogue. I'll be the baker, you're the customer. You're third in line. I say 'Hvem er den tredje?' Luna: Jeg er den tredje. Lucas: Godt. Så hvad vil du have? So what would you like? Luna: Okay, we haven't learned that yet. But I can say 'Jeg er den tredje i køen' confidently now. Lucas: Yes, you can. Let's say them one more time for the listeners: første, anden, tredje, fjerde. Luna: Første, anden, tredje, fjerde. Lucas: Great. Practice those, and next time you're in line in Denmark, you'll know exactly what to say. Thanks for listening to Fexingo. Luna: See you next episode. Keep practicing!
