Latest / ACC Football Addiction (Atlantic Coast Conference) / Canes UPDATES Show Up in UNEXPECTED way for Miami Hurricanes!
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Last Saturday night, a Clemson fan sat down for the
- 0:03Speaker 1: Miami game. He was on the 25 yard line, 25
- 0:06Speaker 1: rows up.
- 0:07Speaker 2: He had good seats, the.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Kind of seats that people pass down in their will
- 0:11Speaker 1: when their football team and program is so important to them.
- 0:15Speaker 1: He took a look to his left and then he
- 0:18Speaker 1: looked to his right and he saw Miami fans on
- 0:20Speaker 1: either side of him. He saw Miami fans in front
- 0:22Speaker 1: of him, behind him. It was a coronation of orange
- 0:26Speaker 1: and green up there in Death Valley. And before the
- 0:29Speaker 1: ball was even kicked off, he logged onto a Clemson
- 0:32Speaker 1: message board and he started a thread about it. And
- 0:35Speaker 1: one of the replies under that thread said something that
- 0:38Speaker 1: every Hurricane fan should print out and stick on their fridge.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Not because it was a compliment, but because it was
- 0:44Speaker 1: an admission. I want to get into that here on
- 0:46Speaker 1: ACC Football Addiction. We are presented by PrizePix. We're all
- 0:50Speaker 1: new users who play a $ 5 lineup and win tickets
- 0:52Speaker 1: get $ 150 in lineups instantly if they've used code HMA. Now,
- 0:58Speaker 1: for years, the knock on Miami has been the same.
- 1:01Speaker 1: It's a great brand. It's a great city. They've got
- 1:04Speaker 1: a great history, but nobody shows up. So what happens
- 1:09Speaker 1: when Miami shows up somewhere it's not supposed to and
- 1:12Speaker 1: starts to take the place over? What happens when the
- 1:15Speaker 1: schedule that everybody thought was a joke in August starts
- 1:19Speaker 1: to show up at the same time too.
- 1:21Speaker 2: And with two starters being banged up coming.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Out of death Valley and Florida state up next on
- 1:27Speaker 1: the calendar, who's going to show up in their place.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Today's video is about showing up. I want to talk
- 1:33Speaker 1: about three things and maybe one thread that runs through
- 1:37Speaker 1: all of them. Let's set this table because I think
- 1:40Speaker 1: the game matters to the story. Miami walked into Clemson's
- 1:44Speaker 1: Memorial Stadium 4-0, ranked No.
- 1:47Speaker 2: 4 in the country.
- 1:47Speaker 1: They were favored by better than two touchdowns. On paper,
- 1:51Speaker 1: this wasn't supposed to be much of a contest. But
- 1:54Speaker 1: on paper, never won a football game. On paper, never
- 1:57Speaker 1: won a football game in a road stadium. Miami hadn't
- 2:00Speaker 1: won in Clemson in over 15 years. The all-time series
- 2:04Speaker 1: was tied 7-7 heading into this thing, and a lot
- 2:07Speaker 1: of Canes fans still remember what Clemson did to them
- 2:10Speaker 1: during that 2017 game at home. The week of the game,
- 2:15Speaker 1: Ryan Rodriguez was asked about the crowd and he gave
- 2:18Speaker 1: the answer you'd want your center to give. He said,
- 2:21Speaker 1: as coach Cristobal tells them, none of those people in
- 2:24Speaker 1: the stands make a single play during the game, which
- 2:27Speaker 1: is funny now to hear because a lot of those
- 2:30Speaker 1: people in the stands were on his side. Now the
- 2:32Speaker 1: final score was 41, 13 minutes of through for two
- 2:37Speaker 1: 27 and had a touchdown. He had a 34 yard
- 2:39Speaker 1: scramble for another score. Fletcher scored twice. Barquet had 98
- 2:43Speaker 1: receiving yards and a touchdown. But this game was one
- 2:46Speaker 1: up front. Miami ran for 192 yards. Clemson ran for 55.
- 2:51Speaker 1: In the first half, Clemson had zero net rushing yards.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Guys, zero.
- 2:57Speaker 1: The Canes defense finished with six sacks and nine TFLs.
- 3:00Speaker 1: It was the second worst loss that Clemson had ever
- 3:04Speaker 1: suffered at home. I'll let you guys live and not
- 3:08Speaker 1: bring up what the first loss loss in that worst
- 3:12Speaker 1: category was for Clemson. The score also put Miami up
- 3:19Speaker 1: eight to seven in the all time series.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Now that's the game quick recap.
- 3:22Speaker 1: We already kind of dove into that last week, but
- 3:25Speaker 1: the game isn't what necessarily had people talking on Sunday morning.
- 3:28Speaker 1: The stands were, here's what that night looked like. From
- 3:32Speaker 1: the outside, after the final whistle, one beat writer covering
- 3:36Speaker 1: the game posted that the Miami fans in the visitor's
- 3:39Speaker 1: corner were as loud, if not louder, than Clemson's own
- 3:43Speaker 1: post-game alma mater. This game, again, as a reminder, happened
- 3:47Speaker 1: in Death Valley. In the fourth quarter, with Clemson fans
- 3:50Speaker 1: heading to the exits, you could hear it's great to
- 3:53Speaker 1: be a Miami hurricane on your television if you were watching.
- 3:57Speaker 1: And Clemson has this tradition. After every home game, win
- 4:01Speaker 1: or loss, fans come down onto the field. It goes
- 4:04Speaker 1: all the way back to Frank Howard. I've done it
- 4:06Speaker 1: in Clemson before. Saturday night, Miami fans came down too.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Fox Sports described Clemson's players walking off, surrounded by a
- 4:15Speaker 1: sea of Canes fans who'd made the trip to Death Valley.
- 4:20Speaker 1: They mobbed Cristobal. They held up their phones in the
- 4:22Speaker 1: air trying to get a selfie with Mark Fletcher or
- 4:25Speaker 1: anybody else that they could. Nobody even knows how many
- 4:29Speaker 1: there actually were. One Clemson fan on TigerNet guessed that
- 4:34Speaker 1: it was close to 10% of the building. in a
- 4:38Speaker 1: stadium that size, you're talking about several thousand people who
- 4:42Speaker 1: made the trip to upstate South Carolina on a Saturday
- 4:45Speaker 1: night in October.
- 4:47Speaker 2: And your coach noticed this.
- 4:48Speaker 1: He said there was orange and green everywhere and that
- 4:51Speaker 1: he was glad the fans feel proud and that he
- 4:54Speaker 1: wants to see more of them on the road this year.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Now I want to go back to that message board
- 4:59Speaker 1: under the thread about being surrounded by Miami fans. A
- 5:02Speaker 1: Clemson fan replied with this. He said their team has
- 5:06Speaker 1: given their fans a reason to show up. And the
- 5:09Speaker 1: next line said, ours has not. That's it to me.
- 5:13Speaker 1: That's the whole thing. Because the Miami attendance jokes were
- 5:17Speaker 1: never really about whether the fans exist or not. Trust me,
- 5:20Speaker 1: they exist. They've always existed. They're scattered across the country.
- 5:24Speaker 1: They're in South Florida. But they're all over. The jokes
- 5:29Speaker 1: were about whether they'd come. And honestly, some of that
- 5:33Speaker 1: flack was earned. Hard Rock is not a short trip
- 5:36Speaker 1: from Coral Gables. South Florida is a pro sports town
- 5:40Speaker 1: with a million things to do on the weekend. And
- 5:43Speaker 1: for the last two decades, Miami has not really given
- 5:47Speaker 1: the fans a reason to fight traffic and get up
- 5:50Speaker 1: to the stadium. Fans respond to a product and look
- 5:55Speaker 1: at the difference in the product now versus what it was.
- 5:59Speaker 1: You've got a national title game appearance last January. You've
- 6:02Speaker 1: got a quarterback who's been the Heisman betting favorite for
- 6:05Speaker 1: much of this season. You've got a defense that just
- 6:08Speaker 1: made Clemson's offense look lost in its own stadium. And
- 6:12Speaker 1: remember the first two trips that you've taken this year,
- 6:16Speaker 1: Stanford and Wake Forest were in front of much smaller
- 6:18Speaker 1: crowds where you also packed it out there. Death Valley
- 6:23Speaker 1: was the first kind of premier chance to travel and
- 6:27Speaker 1: travel you did. So to the Canes fans who made
- 6:30Speaker 1: the trip, it's a hat tip.
- 6:32Speaker 2: It's a shout out.
- 6:33Speaker 1: You've started to flip a narrative that's been hanging around
- 6:37Speaker 1: this program for decades. And you did it in one
- 6:41Speaker 1: night in somebody else's house. And here's the part that
- 6:45Speaker 1: nobody will admit, but I'll say out loud. One night
- 6:48Speaker 1: doesn't kill the narrative off completely. It puts it on
- 6:52Speaker 1: notice because what we've seen this year has been a
- 6:56Speaker 1: trend of people returning, people showing up, people coming to
- 7:00Speaker 1: Canes games, both home and on the road. The home
- 7:03Speaker 1: schedule hadn't been very good, but it's about to get
- 7:05Speaker 1: a whole lot better. The next two Saturdays are at
- 7:08Speaker 1: Hard Rock Stadium, Florida State on October 17th, and then
- 7:11Speaker 1: Pitt just a week later.
- 7:13Speaker 2: I'll go on with that.
- 7:14Speaker 1: But just before I do, I want to give some
- 7:16Speaker 1: love to our new CFA Top 25 poll. I built
- 7:20Speaker 1: this on Sunday night, Monday during the day, and it's
- 7:24Speaker 1: your opportunity to fight back against the terrible AP poll.
- 7:28Speaker 1: The AP poll is atrocious. Let's all be honest with ourselves.
- 7:32Speaker 1: This is your chance to go in and vote on
- 7:33Speaker 1: it yourself. I've grabbed a bunch of people from national
- 7:36Speaker 1: outlets and different places to go vote in it as well.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Not a big fan of the beat writers that have
- 7:42Speaker 1: to be at a stadium for nine or 10 hours
- 7:44Speaker 1: every Saturday filling out a poll. So kind of like
- 7:47Speaker 1: the idea of people that are watching all the games
- 7:49Speaker 1: voting in this poll, the media section is one thing,
- 7:52Speaker 1: but there's a fan section as well. Go to CFA
- 7:55Speaker 1: top 25 and vote in our poll.
- 7:58Speaker 2: I'll link it. I'll pin a comment, go get that done.
- 8:00Speaker 2: There's no cost. It's free. You just log in, create
- 8:03Speaker 2: an account. And there you are. You can vote weekly
- 8:06Speaker 2: on your top 25.
- 8:07Speaker 1: I'd imagine the folks watching this video will be, push
- 8:10Speaker 1: Miami up pretty high.
- 8:12Speaker 2: They're already top three.
- 8:13Speaker 1: I believe if death Valley was the statement, hard rock
- 8:18Speaker 1: is the follow-up we need to see, which brings us
- 8:20Speaker 1: to the schedule. Go back to August. The knock on
- 8:25Speaker 1: Miami this year was not talent. Everybody agreed on the talent.
- 8:30Speaker 1: The knock was the slate that you guys would play Stanford, fam,
- 8:35Speaker 1: you wake forest, central Michigan, those first four opponents. finished
- 8:40Speaker 1: a combined 16-16 in conference play the year before. One
- 8:44Speaker 1: national columnist literally compared Miami's schedule to a roll of
- 8:48Speaker 1: toilet paper. Remember, that was the tone going into this year.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Miami's going to go 4-0. Mensah's going to put up
- 8:55Speaker 1: video game numbers. And none of it's going to matter.
- 8:58Speaker 1: And sure, no one's hanging a banner for beating FAMU 77-7.
- 9:04Speaker 1: But then Conor O'Gara put out a stat this week
- 9:06Speaker 1: that should change the conversation just a little bit. Among
- 9:09Speaker 1: every Power Four team, he counted up how many Power
- 9:12Speaker 1: Conference wins their defeated opponents have. Miami's have six. Alabama's
- 9:20Speaker 1: have six. And that's the top of the list.
- 9:23Speaker 2: No more.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Texas has four. Notre Dame's has four. Pitt has three. Indiana,
- 9:28Speaker 1: Texas Tech, UCLA, two each. BYU, Duke, Georgia, Utah, one apiece.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Nebraska doesn't have any. Read that stat back. The team
- 9:40Speaker 1: with the joke schedule has beaten opponents with more conference
- 9:44Speaker 1: wins than anyone else but Bama. And that one's a
- 9:48Speaker 1: tie at six. They've got more wins against power for
- 9:52Speaker 1: competition than Georgia, more than Texas, more than Notre Dame. Now,
- 9:56Speaker 1: to be fair of that, some of that is how
- 9:58Speaker 1: the conference calendar falls.
- 10:00Speaker 2: It's not like.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Miami has ran the gauntlet of top 10 teams every week,
- 10:04Speaker 1: but that's not really the point. The point is the
- 10:07Speaker 1: argument that Miami hasn't played. Anybody is going to get
- 10:10Speaker 1: harder and harder to make with a straight face because look,
- 10:14Speaker 1: what's coming. It's not just about who you've beaten, which
- 10:17Speaker 1: I think wake is a really good team in this conference.
- 10:20Speaker 1: but it's about to get a lot more serious. Florida
- 10:23Speaker 1: State at home on Saturday. More on them in just
- 10:26Speaker 1: a moment, but Pitt at home the week after. They're 5-0,
- 10:30Speaker 1: and I think they're going to be 7-0 when they
- 10:32Speaker 1: come down to Hard Rock Stadium. They just cracked the
- 10:35Speaker 1: AP Top 25 for the first time since last November.
- 10:38Speaker 1: The catch for them is losing their starting quarterback, Mason Heintzel,
- 10:42Speaker 1: to a torn ACL in that win against Virginia Tech.
- 10:46Speaker 1: We'll see what they look like over the next couple
- 10:48Speaker 1: of weeks, but I still think they'll be unbeaten, and
- 10:51Speaker 1: I think they'll be ranked. North Carolina, you play them
- 10:55Speaker 1: on the road on Halloween. You then throw in Notre
- 10:57Speaker 1: Dame in South Bend on November 7th. Notre Dame is
- 11:00Speaker 1: 5-0 and sitting at No. 3 in the country. You
- 11:04Speaker 1: have Duke at home on November 14th. They're undefeated, too.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Manny Diaz's Duke squad is the defending ACC champions. And,
- 11:11Speaker 1: of course, we know the storyline of Darian Mensah, the
- 11:14Speaker 1: quarterback that led them to that ACC title now being
- 11:17Speaker 1: in Coral Gables. If both teams keep winning games, that
- 11:21Speaker 1: game will write its own headlines. Then you've got Virginia Tech,
- 11:24Speaker 1: James Franklin's first year in Blacksburg, and the Hokies are 4-1.
- 11:28Speaker 1: They're one loss to that Pitt team, that unbeaten, ranked
- 11:31Speaker 1: Pitt team that we just talked about.
- 11:34Speaker 2: BC to close it out.
- 11:35Speaker 1: I don't have too many kind or nice things to
- 11:37Speaker 1: say there. They're not a great team, but the schedule
- 11:40Speaker 1: that was supposed to be so soft could end up
- 11:43Speaker 1: giving Miami a ranked pit, a top 300 aim on
- 11:46Speaker 1: the road, an unbeaten Duke, a Virginia tech team. That's
- 11:50Speaker 1: already proved that it can hang a rivalry game with
- 11:53Speaker 1: Florida state who looks a lot better than we thought
- 11:55Speaker 1: they were. And a wake forest team that I think
- 11:57Speaker 1: is the second best team in the ACC right now.
- 12:00Speaker 1: I don't think it's clearly as soft as many people
- 12:03Speaker 1: painted it at the beginning.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Now, I'm not comparing it to an SEC schedule.
- 12:08Speaker 1: I don't think that this is anything close to what
- 12:10Speaker 1: Bama or Tennessee or some of these others will play.
- 12:13Speaker 1: That's not my point. But I don't think that it's
- 12:15Speaker 1: as soft as people once thought. I also think that
- 12:18Speaker 1: matters for the playoff. It matters for Mensah. The knock
- 12:22Speaker 1: on his Heisman case this year is going to be competition.
- 12:25Speaker 1: He's got big numbers against small names. I think the
- 12:28Speaker 1: names start to get a lot bigger. And if he
- 12:30Speaker 1: keeps this up against undefeated teams like Notre Dame, Duke,
- 12:34Speaker 1: or Pitt, I think that argument goes away. I want
- 12:37Speaker 1: to talk about FSU for just a moment. FSU heads
- 12:40Speaker 1: into tonight's game at 3-2. They've got wins over New
- 12:43Speaker 1: Mexico State, Central Arkansas, and Virginia. They've got losses, a
- 12:46Speaker 1: close one to SMU at home, and then an impressive
- 12:49Speaker 1: showing by the Seminoles on the road in Alabama. Ashton
- 12:52Speaker 1: Daniels at quarterback. Usman Kroma running the ball very, very
- 12:55Speaker 1: well at 477 yards with five touchdowns. through their five games.
- 13:00Speaker 1: They're averaging 33 points a game. They're not a juggernaut,
- 13:04Speaker 1: but they're a lot more competitive than the version of
- 13:06Speaker 1: Florida state that went two and 10, two years ago,
- 13:09Speaker 1: or five and seven last year. And tonight they're in
- 13:12Speaker 1: Louisville Friday night, seven o'clock on ESPN. Louisville is favored
- 13:16Speaker 1: by about three and a half. I think if you're
- 13:18Speaker 1: a Miami fan, that's a game worth watching. You're probably
- 13:21Speaker 1: going to hate watch it, or maybe even Love watch
- 13:23Speaker 1: it because you want to see if Norvell can get
- 13:25Speaker 1: more time up there. But whatever happens in Louisville tonight
- 13:29Speaker 1: will tell you something about who's coming to Hard Rock
- 13:31Speaker 1: next week.
- 13:32Speaker 2: If Florida State goes into Louisville and wins and they.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Walk into Hard Rock at 4-2 with a road ACC
- 13:38Speaker 1: win in their back pocket, I think there's a reason
- 13:41Speaker 1: to believe that that game could be slightly more competitive
- 13:44Speaker 1: than we've thought in the first month of the season.
- 13:47Speaker 1: If they lose and they come in at 3-3 with
- 13:50Speaker 1: nothing but rivalry pride on the line, I think we
- 13:53Speaker 1: probably expect something a little bit different. Now, as an
- 13:56Speaker 1: FSU guy, I'll tell you, I'm not sure what's best
- 13:59Speaker 1: for FSU in the specific Miami matchup. I would think
- 14:03Speaker 1: the confident one is probably one that's a little bit
- 14:06Speaker 1: better for the Seminoles. But I also think that rivalry
- 14:09Speaker 1: games don't really care about records. Ask anybody who's been
- 14:13Speaker 1: around this rivalry long enough and they know. You look
- 14:18Speaker 1: at Florida State, and I think you could very easily
- 14:20Speaker 1: define what their team is. An offense that can get
- 14:23Speaker 1: some things done. A defense that can let you do
- 14:26Speaker 1: a lot to them. Which is probably why the injury
- 14:29Speaker 1: news this week for Miami matters a ton. That Clemson
- 14:33Speaker 1: win wasn't free. You start with the offensive line. Max Buchanan,
- 14:37Speaker 1: sophomore guard number 66. He's started every single game this year.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Early in the game with Miami running the ball Buchanan
- 14:47Speaker 1: went down and had to be looked at by trainers.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Went to the medical tent. He then came back.
- 14:54Speaker 1: He finished the game. Cristobal raved about it afterward. You
- 14:57Speaker 1: had your right tackle also go down. And Matthew McCoy,
- 15:00Speaker 1: a shoulder injury, he did come back. But Cristobal said
- 15:03Speaker 1: that McCoy showed a toughness he'd never seen. He called
- 15:06Speaker 1: the two of them off the charts as a reference point.
- 15:11Speaker 1: So everybody exhaled. But then on Wednesday morning, Buchanan posted
- 15:15Speaker 1: a photo of himself in a hospital bed. He had
- 15:18Speaker 1: a gown on. He had a caption telling everybody to
- 15:21Speaker 1: hold it down and that he'd be back. Now, that
- 15:24Speaker 1: post was later deleted, but by then everyone had seen it.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Multiple outlets had reported that he had had surgery. And
- 15:30Speaker 1: while nobody put an official timeline on it just yet,
- 15:34Speaker 1: the general read is that this is not a one-week thing.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Here's what makes that sting. Early in the year, the
- 15:42Speaker 1: guards were the question mark on this line. After the
- 15:45Speaker 1: Wake Forest game, the pass block grades for both starting
- 15:48Speaker 1: guards were not great. There were real conversations about whether
- 15:52Speaker 1: Miami should shake things up inside. I talked to you
- 15:54Speaker 1: guys about the interior of the line, and that being
- 15:57Speaker 1: my biggest concern for the Canes so far this year.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Then Clemson happened, and the interior of that line looked
- 16:03Speaker 1: like it had gotten a lot better. Miami ran the
- 16:06Speaker 1: ball down Clemson's throat in the second half, and right
- 16:08Speaker 1: when it clicked.
- 16:09Speaker 2: You lose a piece of it. So who's next?
- 16:12Speaker 1: You'll hear different names, whether that's Merriweather or Alo Fatuli.
- 16:17Speaker 2: I believe I'm saying that right. If I've butchered it,
- 16:19Speaker 2: don't yell at me.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Congdon is another option. You've got versatility with different guys.
- 16:24Speaker 1: You've got some size questions with some of them. You
- 16:27Speaker 1: certainly want to see who's going to go out there
- 16:30Speaker 1: and start under the lights against Florida State. You want
- 16:34Speaker 1: to balance ceiling. You want to balance chemistry. You want
- 16:38Speaker 1: to balance experience. You want to balance size. There's a
- 16:43Speaker 1: lot of people that think this could go in different directions.
- 16:47Speaker 1: There's always the idea of moving guys around and Miami's
- 16:51Speaker 1: had a week to work on this now. And that's
- 16:53Speaker 1: certainly a benefit of having a buy right now. And
- 16:56Speaker 1: then they have the entire rest of FSU week as well.
- 17:00Speaker 1: As much as I've watched the interior of the line,
- 17:03Speaker 1: through a lens that expects better than Miami has produced
- 17:06Speaker 1: for large portions of this season, that is where my
- 17:09Speaker 1: focus is going into this game against Florida State in
- 17:11Speaker 1: a little over a week. And then you've got the
- 17:13Speaker 1: defensive side. This one might be just as big of
- 17:16Speaker 1: a deal. Marquise Lightfoot, an edge rusher, former five-star out
- 17:19Speaker 1: of Chicago. When Bain and Mesador both went in the
- 17:22Speaker 1: first round of the NFL draft, Lightfoot was the guy
- 17:24Speaker 1: that everybody pointed to as the breakout candidate. He was
- 17:27Speaker 1: the guy that was learning behind them, under Jason Taylor,
- 17:30Speaker 1: just waiting for his shot. And he's taking it. Lightfoot
- 17:33Speaker 1: came into the Clemson game leading the team in quarterback pressures.
- 17:36Speaker 1: And early in that game, he flat out ran over
- 17:39Speaker 1: a Clemson offensive lineman on his way to a sack.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Right before halftime, though, he went to the locker room
- 17:44Speaker 1: as well, and he didn't come back. As of right now,
- 17:47Speaker 1: I've heard conflicting things. His status is up in the air,
- 17:50Speaker 1: and Miami certainly isn't going to be the one to
- 17:52Speaker 1: come out and say what his injury is or how
- 17:54Speaker 1: long he'll be out. And because it's a bye week,
- 17:57Speaker 1: I don't think that we'll get anything concrete until Cristobal
- 18:00Speaker 1: has to release an injury report. So can he go
- 18:04Speaker 1: against Florida State? I don't know if anybody outside of
- 18:07Speaker 1: the building knows for 100% yet. I feel like he
- 18:10Speaker 1: will based on talking with some people. Miami still finished
- 18:13Speaker 1: that game with six sacks, and Lightfoot wasn't out on
- 18:17Speaker 1: the field for the entire second half. You do really
- 18:20Speaker 1: like Miami's depth here. You like Lowe. You like Wilson.
- 18:24Speaker 1: You like Moten on that defensive line. You certainly like Blunt.
- 18:28Speaker 1: But I don't think one injury will sink the whole thing,
- 18:31Speaker 1: which is a good thing. But if you're going into
- 18:34Speaker 1: a rivalry game against an opponent whose offense has certainly
- 18:37Speaker 1: shown flashes, you'd love to have him back. This team
- 18:41Speaker 1: hasn't been healthy all year. The secondary has been hit
- 18:44Speaker 1: hard since the opener at Stanford. Now you've got a
- 18:47Speaker 1: starting guard and one of your better pass rushers that
- 18:50Speaker 1: are on the list as well. And that's the job
- 18:53Speaker 1: for this staff over the next eight days. You've got
- 18:55Speaker 1: to figure out right guard. You've got to figure out
- 18:57Speaker 1: edge if Lightfoot can't go. And you've got to get
- 19:00Speaker 1: everybody else as close to 100% as you can before
- 19:02Speaker 1: Florida State shows.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Up at Harvard Rock Stadium. So now you put it
- 19:06Speaker 2: all together.
- 19:08Speaker 1: The fans showed up in Death Valley in a way
- 19:10Speaker 1: that many people did not see coming. They showed up
- 19:13Speaker 1: in a way that was loud enough that Clemson's own
- 19:15Speaker 1: people were writing about it the next morning. The schedule
- 19:18Speaker 1: is showing up. The teams that people laughed at have
- 19:21Speaker 1: more power conference wins than anybody else's but Bama's. And
- 19:26Speaker 1: the stretch that's coming. Pitt, Notre Dame, Duke, Virginia Tech,
- 19:29Speaker 1: Florida State could certainly turn this into a little bit
- 19:33Speaker 1: better resume than we all expected.
- 19:35Speaker 2: And now it's time for the roster to show up.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Merriweather or whoever wins that right guard spot, the edge
- 19:41Speaker 1: rushers behind Lightfoot if he's not ready. Because that Clemson
- 19:44Speaker 1: fan was right. Miami's team gave its fans a reason
- 19:48Speaker 1: to show up. Now at Hard Rock Stadium in just
- 19:52Speaker 1: eight days, the team gets to reward them. I would
- 19:55Speaker 1: love to know your thoughts on today's video. I'd love
- 19:57Speaker 1: to know your thoughts on what you would do at
- 19:59Speaker 1: right guard, where you think Lightfoot is as that continues
- 20:03Speaker 1: to progress. I appreciate you guys as always for tuning in.
