- 0:01Matthew Chapter 11. Let us pray.
- 0:08Jesus Christ, You're so good. Lord, you're so amazing.
- 0:15Thank you, Father, thank you for waking us up.
- 0:18Lord, thank you so much for the words that we hold in our hands.
- 0:22Thank you so much for giving us a sound mind.
- 0:25Thank you, Father, for family. Thank you, God for marriage.
- 0:29Thank you, God for this nation. Thank you, God for the globe.
- 0:33Thank you, Lord, that you've given us purpose, Lord, that
- 0:37you've given us our marching orders.
- 0:38Thank you, God, that you love. And you love well, Lord, and you
- 0:42love us to the end. We will be there with you.
- 0:45So Lord, we thank you for the promise of eternity.
- 0:48We thank you, Father, that you have been so good to us
- 0:52throughout our entire lives. God, You've got us to this
- 0:55point. Your mercies are new every day,
- 0:58Lord. You have released us from
- 1:00anxiety. You have released us from the
- 1:02burdens of this world and the cares, God, and you've set us in
- 1:07heavenly places, Lord, and we are there with you, Lord.
- 1:11So I just pray right now that you will help us to be your
- 1:14hands and feet to this wicked and perverse generation.
- 1:18God, help us to go out into the highways and the hedges and the
- 1:22byways, Father, and snatch those out of the fire.
- 1:25God, I pray in the name of Jesus that you will empower us from on
- 1:30high. Help us, Father, to take the
- 1:32whole word to the whole world. God, I pray in the name of Jesus
- 1:36that we will not be found sitting, that we will not be
- 1:40found lazy. God, I pray that you will fuel
- 1:44us for the journey, that you'll give us our marching orders,
- 1:47that you'll help us to step in. Lord, to what you have for us
- 1:51today. Help us to be found doing your
- 1:54work. Help us to be found going out
- 1:57and preaching the gospel to the nation's Lord, telling them
- 2:01about the good news, Father, of what you have done for them and
- 2:05what you have done for us. Lord, we put on the full armor
- 2:09today. God, we put on those gospel
- 2:12shoes of peace. Lord, help us to run the race
- 2:15well. Help us to finish well.
- 2:17God, I pray that we will keep your words as the mandate over
- 2:22our lives. Help us to keep all of these
- 2:25words and treasure them in our hearts, God, and hide them in
- 2:28our hearts, Lord, knowing that Jesus is the Christ, Jesus is
- 2:33the anointed one, Jesus of Nazareth, He is the branch
- 2:37father. And so God, I just pray that you
- 2:40will help us. Lord, help us, us to know what
- 2:43to do and when to do it and how to do it, Father, because it's
- 2:46all about you and it's always been about you.
- 2:49We love you, Father, and we know that you love us.
- 2:52God. We know, Lord, that you will
- 2:57reign supreme over this entire globe.
- 3:00We know that we're pressing hard towards that day.
- 3:04And so, Lord, in the meantime and in between time, help us,
- 3:07Father, help us to run the race well.
- 3:11God, we do lift up our shield of faith today.
- 3:16God, we put on the breastplate of righteousness.
- 3:19Father, we put on the belt of truth.
- 3:21Lord, we put on the helmet of salvation, Father, and we do war
- 3:26with the sword of the Spirit, Father, which is the word of
- 3:29God. Lord, we do war, Father, with
- 3:32it. Help us to take back enemy
- 3:34territory. Father, help us to move into the
- 3:37darkness. Help us not to shrink back Lord,
- 3:40but give us power from on high. Yes, Lord, we are waiting for
- 3:45you. Lord, we are empowered by you.
- 3:49Lord, we thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit.
- 3:52We thank you Lord for the down payment and the deposit for what
- 3:57is to come. Lord, open our hearts and our
- 4:00minds up to Your word today in Jesus Christ.
- 4:03Holy precious name. I pray men.
- 4:08Let's start in verse one. And it came to pass when Jesus
- 4:15had made an end of commanding his 12 disciples, He departed
- 4:20there to teach and to preach in their cities.
- 4:24John has a very interesting ending to his gospel, and he
- 4:28says if all the things that Jesus did were written about,
- 4:32there would be not enough libraries in the world to
- 4:34contain the books. So yes, we have a complete
- 4:40picture of what Jesus wanted us to know in Matthew, Mark and
- 4:44Luke and John and everything that preceded those four books
- 4:50and everything that proceeds those four books are all about
- 4:56those four books. And it's all about Jesus.
- 5:01It's all about King Jesus, friends.
- 5:04He's the chief cornerstone that we build everything upon.
- 5:07And are you building your house on sinking sand, which is
- 5:11Mammon? Are you building your house on
- 5:13the sinking sand, which is this world and the cares of this
- 5:20world and the pleasantries and pleasures of this world?
- 5:24Or are you building your house on that solid rock that was not
- 5:27cut out by human hands and it falls upon all the kingdoms, the
- 5:33earth? Why do the nations rage in the
- 5:37people's plot in vain? We can see it all shaping up,
- 5:42can't we, friends? And so here in verse 1 of
- 5:46Chapter 11, you get a sneak peek into some of the things that
- 5:53perhaps we're not written about. You can see how Jesus sent out
- 5:59the 12 and then he went and and was teaching and preaching in
- 6:05the cities. Verse 2.
- 6:08Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he
- 6:13sent two of his disciples. We're going to flow into a very
- 6:19interesting passage here. Imagine John the Baptist had
- 6:25some disciples and his disciples had already asked why Jesus's
- 6:32disciples weren't fasting. And here John is locked up in
- 6:39prison and Jesus is God Incarnate, has all the power to
- 6:45do anything and everything. And here John is locked up and
- 6:49he's trying to figure out why am I still locked up?
- 6:53The disciples are trying to figure out why are we fasting
- 6:56and yours aren't. Verse 3 And he said unto him,
- 7:02are you he that should come or do we look for another?
- 7:06Wow, the forerunner of Jesus Christ sitting in prison and he
- 7:13wants to know, are you the Messiah?
- 7:17Are you the Christ or should we wait for another?
- 7:21What an interesting turn of events here, this John the
- 7:25Baptist. There was no greater prophet who
- 7:30was honored. He actually got to see Jesus
- 7:33Christ. He was the cousin of Jesus
- 7:35Christ and he's sitting in prison wondering if he is the
- 7:43Christ, even though he was the forerunner.
- 7:47What an interesting turn of events here.
- 7:50Do we look for another? There is no other name that we
- 7:55shall be saved by, friends. It's Jesus Christ, Nazareth,
- 7:59Jesus the long-awaited 1 the anointed.
- 8:03For Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and show John again
- 8:12those things which you do here and see.
- 8:15So imagine Jesus he, He answers so politely, he answers so
- 8:22delicately. He's not upset with the doubt of
- 8:26John, but there's a little word here, he says again.
- 8:31Go and show him again. Sometimes we need to be
- 8:35reminded, friends. Sometimes we get off track.
- 8:38It's easy to get off track. It's easy to start compromising.
- 8:42It's easy to start choosing the little compromises along the
- 8:47way. We're on the straight way,
- 8:50friends, We're on the narrow way, and there's a lot of ways
- 8:54that intersect that way, but they're all crooked.
- 8:57And here in verse 5, the blind receive their sight and the lame
- 9:03walk. The lepers are cleansed and the
- 9:05deaf hear. The dead are raised and the poor
- 9:09have the gospel preached to them.
- 9:12So Jesus is showing John's disciples and he's saying, go
- 9:16and tell John that the fulfillment of the prophecies
- 9:19and Isaiah are actually coming to completion.
- 9:22You can see that I am the Christ.
- 9:25You can see it. And he tells his disciples.
- 9:29He's saying, go, go and tell John again that I am the Christ.
- 9:376 and blessed is he whosoever shall not be offended in me. 6
- 9:43is a beautiful verse highlighted.
- 9:45Underline it, circle it, write it down, put it on your vanity
- 9:49refrigerator, put it on your dashboard, memorize it.
- 9:53Blessed are they that are not offended by Jesus Christ.
- 9:58His ways are not our ways, friends.
- 10:01His thoughts are not our thoughts, friends.
- 10:03They're much higher than ours are.
- 10:07There are many things that we look of and we look on as
- 10:11tragedies. But Jesus Christ has a plan and
- 10:16all of it, friends, and He's working everything out for the
- 10:20good of those who love Him and trust Him and who are called
- 10:24according to His purposes. Blessed are those who are not
- 10:28offended when He leaves the infirmity.
- 10:32Blessed are those who are not offended whenever he doesn't
- 10:36raise the dead. Blessed are those who are not
- 10:39offended whenever the wayward children haven't come home yet.
- 10:43Blessed are those who are not offended when Jesus's ways don't
- 10:47add up, when he leaves you in the prison, he says, Blessed are
- 10:54those who are not offended by him. 7 And as they departed,
- 11:00Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What
- 11:06did you go out into the wilderness to see?
- 11:08A Reed shaken by the wind? Verse 7 He's saying that John
- 11:17the Baptist was not the duplicious man who was blown by
- 11:23every wind. He was very resolute in his
- 11:27ministry. He was the forerunner of Jesus
- 11:32Christ, and he did his job well. 8 But what did you go out to
- 11:40see? A man clothed in soft raiment.
- 11:46Behold, they that wears soft clothing are in King's houses.
- 11:52John the Baptist was a Wildman. He ate locusts and honey.
- 11:59He had the coat of hair and belt of leather.
- 12:08He was not a soft man. He was a very wild man. 9 But
- 12:17what did you go out to see? A prophet?
- 12:21Yes, I say unto you, more than a prophet.
- 12:26So here Jesus is complimenting John's ministry.
- 12:32He's saying that he was more than a prophet. 10 For this is
- 12:35he of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger
- 12:38before your face, which shall prepare the way before thee.
- 12:42We saw that back in Malachi, didn't we, friends?
- 12:4611 Truly, I say unto you, among them that are born of women,
- 12:50there is not risen a greater than John the Baptist,
- 12:54notwithstanding he that is least in the Kingdom of heaven is
- 12:58greater than he. What a statement, friends, what
- 13:01a statement from Jesus's lips. He's saying that John the
- 13:05Baptist was the greatest prophet because he actually got to see
- 13:09the fulfillment of all the prophecies in the bodily form of
- 13:14Jesus Christ on the scene. That is why he's called the
- 13:18greatest. But then he's saying that us in
- 13:21the new covenant, us who have the welling of the Holy Spirit
- 13:25after the cross of Christ, after the day of Pentecost, the day of
- 13:30Pentecost, we friends, are greater because all of those
- 13:36prophets long to see this day. And look at how much more
- 13:41responsible we will be in the day of Judgment, friends, for
- 13:46having the completion of the Word of God.
- 13:51We will be held and a higher responsibility and a higher
- 13:54degree of judgement. Friends, what did you go out to
- 14:00see? Did you think that by going to
- 14:05church that everything was going to just work out so beautifully?
- 14:11You're going to get that raise and everything was going to work
- 14:14out and all all your friends would come back around and
- 14:19everything was just going to be beautiful.
- 14:21But did you not know that following after Jesus Christ was
- 14:25going to cost you something? Friends, what did you go out to
- 14:29see? Soft clothing?
- 14:32No, sometimes the Lord calls us to the hardest places.
- 14:35Friends, what did you go out to see?
- 14:4312:00 And from the days of John the Baptist until now, the
- 14:48Kingdom of heaven, heaven suffers violence and the violent
- 14:53take it by force. Praise God.
- 14:55Hallelujah for verse 12. We can see what it looks like to
- 14:59follow after Jesus. It sometimes will look as if you
- 15:04are going into the hardest and darkest and most violent places
- 15:09where people are hostile towards you and they ridicule you and
- 15:13they say all kinds of nasty things about you.
- 15:18You will be ridiculed. And he says count it all as joy,
- 15:23for great is your reward. Here's what it looks like
- 15:26whenever the person who calls himself a believer who is truly
- 15:32sold out to Jesus Christ. Whenever we go into the
- 15:35workplaces to try to talk to people about Jesus and we get
- 15:39fired. Here's what it looks like
- 15:42whenever we are talking about Jesus in the school room and we
- 15:48have legal troubles. Here's what it looks like,
- 15:52friends, whenever we're trying to truly follow after God
- 15:56Almighty and it cost us our loved ones because they don't
- 16:02want to hear it anymore. They don't care about God, They
- 16:06don't care about Jesus. They just wanted the soft
- 16:09clothing. They just wanted the
- 16:11pleasantries and the pleasures of this world and they cared
- 16:15nothing for what it really looks like to follow after him.
- 16:19This is what it looks like, friends, and we must take back
- 16:22the darkness by violence, and that is doing war with the
- 16:26sword, which is the word of God. Lift up that shield of faith.
- 16:31Put on those gospel shoes of peace.
- 16:33Friends, don't worry about it. If none go with you, you still
- 16:39follow Him. Make that decision and follow
- 16:44hard after Jesus Christ regardless of if people along
- 16:51the way ridicule you. The violent have to take it by
- 16:57force. And you can see that heaven has
- 17:00suffered violence. You know the original sin was
- 17:04not in the garden. The original sin was when
- 17:07Lucifer decided to be higher than God and all of the demons
- 17:14were cast out. The fallen angels, 1/3 of them
- 17:18were cast out of heaven and suffered violence, and that
- 17:22violence is still happening all around us today.
- 17:27And when you finally get to the veil took off your eyes and you
- 17:31can finally see the spiritual realm all around you suffering
- 17:36such violence. Look at whenever Elisha and his
- 17:43helper looked up on the hills and there were Chariots and
- 17:48there were angelic beings all around, and there was more of
- 17:51them than their enemies. It's all around you, friends.
- 17:55If you could just take off the blinders of this world and all
- 18:01the things that this world tries to trap us with, and whenever we
- 18:04can increase the currency of faith in your life, you get to
- 18:08see the spiritual realm all around you.
- 18:12I pray that you can see it, Friends. 13 for all the prophets
- 18:19in the law prophesied until John 14, and if you will receive it,
- 18:25this is Elijah which was to come. 15 He that has ears to
- 18:31hear, let him hear, and he has eyes to see.
- 18:38Let them see. Friends, I pray that as the Holy
- 18:42Spirit indwells you, you don't hear this world the way that you
- 18:46used to. I pray that as the Holy Spirit
- 18:48indwells you, you don't see this world the way that you used to.
- 18:52I pray that you can understand that the Spirit of Elijah had
- 18:56come through John the Baptist. He even dressed like him.
- 19:01He even suffered these bouts of depression like him.
- 19:07This same spirit of Elijah was upon John the Baptist and we'll
- 19:11actually get to see later in Revelation, you'll get to see
- 19:15the two witnesses. One of them I believe is Elijah
- 19:21and we saw on the Mount of Transfiguration that's coming
- 19:24up. One of them is Elijah.
- 19:26So Elijah hears being prophesied about coming through John the
- 19:33Baptist in the Spirit, and Jesus himself says, If you will
- 19:38receive it. 16 But how shall I like in this generation?
- 19:43It is like unto children sitting in the markets and calling out
- 19:47to their fellows, 17 saying, We have piped unto you, and you
- 19:52have not danced, we have mourned unto you, and you have not
- 19:56lamented. So here Jesus is going to
- 19:59relegate this wicked and perverse generation unto the
- 20:03children calling out in the marketplace.
- 20:05Place and they're saying we played a happy song and you
- 20:08didn't dance, we played a dirge and you did not mourn.
- 20:14And he's going to tell us what it all means. 18 For John came
- 20:18neither eating nor drinking. And they said, he has a devil.
- 20:2319 The Son of man came eating and drinking.
- 20:26And they say, Behold, a man gluttonous, a wine bibber, a
- 20:30friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her
- 20:36children. So here Jesus Christ is saying
- 20:40that no matter how he comes, they would not receive him.
- 20:46John the Baptist came, He did not eat or drink, and they said
- 20:50he had a devil. Jesus Christ came eating and
- 20:53drinking, and they said that he was a drunkard and a glutton.
- 20:58So no matter how He came, whichever side of the coin, they
- 21:03had already made a hostile love decision for the world and He
- 21:08was threatening their religious system and they hated Him for
- 21:14it. He was going to completely under
- 21:17earth and overthrow all of the Pharisees and Sadducees in the
- 21:23Sanhedrin and all of the synagogues in the way that they
- 21:27wanted to do religion whenever they were manipulating the
- 21:30masses and is no different today, friends.
- 21:34And Jesus Christ will upend and do a new thing in the land.
- 21:40Friends, Wisdom is justified of her children.
- 21:45You know, when the true gospel of Jesus Christ is preached and
- 21:49it falls upon fertile soil and it produces a crop in a it
- 21:53produces a harvest, Friends, that is whenever Wisdom is
- 21:57justified of her children, you know, it is the dirt floor.
- 22:03It's the the gospel of Jesus Christ being preached
- 22:07underground to places where persecution is real.
- 22:12This is where wisdom is justified over children when the
- 22:17true converts are willing to lay down their lives for Jesus
- 22:20Christ. 20 Then began he to upbraid the cities where most of
- 22:29his mighty works were done because they repented.
- 22:32Not So you saw the very first verse of Chapter 11 where he
- 22:37says that Jesus sent out the 12 and then he departed to go and
- 22:41teach and preach in their cities.
- 22:44And then you see in verse 20, it's all being talked about.
- 22:48We don't have a lot of these stories here, so we just have to
- 22:51understand that Jesus went to these places and He's perform
- 22:55miracles here and He's going to say that the people did not care
- 23:00anything for him. Let's see what He has to say
- 23:02here. They did not repent of the
- 23:06mighty works which were done where?
- 23:0821 Woe unto you, Terezin, woe unto you beside a For if the
- 23:14mighty works which were done, and you had been done in Tyre
- 23:18and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth
- 23:22the Nashes. 22 But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable
- 23:27for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. 23 And
- 23:31you, Capernaum, which are exalted unto heaven, shall be
- 23:35brought down to hell. For if the mighty works which
- 23:39have been done, and you had been done in Sodom, it would have
- 23:42remained unto this day. 24 But I say unto you, that it shall be
- 23:47more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment
- 23:51than for you. 25 And that time Jesus answered and said, And I
- 23:56thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you
- 24:00have hid these things from the wise and prudent, and you have
- 24:04revealed them unto babes. What a beautiful verse, what a
- 24:10beautiful promise. It is not the wise and the
- 24:15prudent that receive the true understanding of God and
- 24:23understanding of this word. It is those of us who have the
- 24:28childlike faith who believe every single syllable that we
- 24:33don't call it into question. We're not approaching God.
- 24:37We're not approaching the Bible from an intellectual standpoint,
- 24:42from a scholastic standpoint, from a historical standpoint.
- 24:46We're approaching this as if it is alive and active and sharper
- 24:51than any 2 edged sword. We're approaching the Word of
- 24:54God as if it is the authority over our lives and it is able to
- 24:59discern us. We approach the Word of God like
- 25:05a babe. We don't need to know
- 25:09everything, we just need to fix our eyes upon Him, and He will
- 25:14reveal the eternal truths to you, friends. 26 Even so,
- 25:21Father, for so it seemed good in your sight. 27 All things are
- 25:29delivered unto me of my Father, and no man knows the Son, but
- 25:35the Father, neither knows any man, the Father, except the Son,
- 25:40and he to whom so ever the Son will reveal him.
- 25:45There are a lot of people who know this word inside and out,
- 25:49but because they've called so much of it into question and
- 25:52they've made a love decision and they're hostile towards it.
- 25:56There are even people who preach this gospel, but they don't know
- 26:02Him. They're not known by him.
- 26:05And whenever He reveals God to us, when he reveals the Kingdom
- 26:11of God to us, it will completely up in your theology.
- 26:19It will completely overthrow all of your preconceived
- 26:25presuppositions. Friends, you will see Him.
- 26:31The pure in heart will see God. You'll get the blinders taken
- 26:38off of you, and you'll actually get to peek and peer into the
- 26:41spiritual realm and see what's actually happening all around
- 26:44you. He is pleased to reveal that to
- 26:48those who have childlike faith. 28 Come unto me, all ye that
- 26:58labor and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my
- 27:02yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in
- 27:05heart, and you shall find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke
- 27:10is easy, and my burden is light. 2829 and 30 are iconic, famous
- 27:22versus these are versus that. If you call yourself a believer
- 27:29for any length of time you've memorized, you understand.
- 27:36If you are going through this life and you eat up with cares
- 27:41and anxieties and depression, perhaps you have not learned how
- 27:48to put this yoke on and you're still kicking against the goat.
- 27:55Perhaps if you're eat up with anxiety and depression, perhaps
- 28:01you don't understand that Jesus Christ is able to lift that
- 28:09heavy load off of you. You don't have to walk around
- 28:13with it all biting your nails and trying to figure out how
- 28:16it's all going to go. We just need to trust that He is
- 28:20able and capable of bringing us into the fold and that we will
- 28:27be there with Him forever more and He's going to call us up and
- 28:33it's all going to end perfectly and we can rest in the promises
