- 0:04When I met Thomas, I was nineteen years old and he was twenty.
- 0:10It was thanks to a common friend that we began to see each other more
- 0:14often until we finally formalized our relationship. I will never forget those years,
- 0:20as I still remember everything we live together. Thomas lived with his mother,
- 0:25who was his everything and who he loved more than anything else in this world.
- 0:30For my part, I liked Tomás' mother very much, since from
- 0:34the first moment I met her, she took care that I felt like family.
- 0:40Her name was Helena and she was a beautiful woman, with an abundant
- 0:44black curly hair and brown eyes that always reflected sincerity and joy. Unfortunately,
- 0:51one day Tomás' mother fell seriously ill and visited countless doctors who only prescribed
- 0:58temporary remedies, which made everything worse once its effects began to fade. One
- 1:06day, however, the results we all had came. Bone cancer was in
- 1:11a very advanced state and the medicine I needed was too expensive. After realizing
- 1:18that he could not afford his mother’ s medicine by working in common jobs,
- 1:23Thomas tried to get several better paid jobs. After all, Thomas had
- 1:30graduated with a very good average from the University, but, as happens to
- 1:34many professionals, he had not been able to pursue his career after college and
- 1:38in every job he applied to received the same answer. I needed more experience.
- 1:47Every time he tried to save some money, something unexpected came up and
- 1:52his efforts were devastated in the air. In his despair, Thomas resorted to
- 1:57an acquaintance of his who was known for or being a criminal and assailant.
- 2:02This friend told him he could make a lot more money by joining his gang
- 2:07and stealing from wealthy people. Despair can lead the most honorable person to commit
- 2:13actions that under other circumstances he could not even contemplate in his head. Although
- 2:19at first he rejected it. His need to save his mother led him to
- 2:23make the wrong decision. Eventually, he joined the band and began stealing people
- 2:28at night. It was dangerous and risky, but at least he was making
- 2:36the money he needed to buy his mother' s medicines and so she could
- 2:39eat. Of course, he didn' t tell me or his mother.
- 2:45He invented that he had got a good job, which we never questioned.
- 2:50Although Thomas finally had enough money to buy the medicines needed for his mother,
- 2:55nothing seemed to help her recover. His health deteriorated even more with every passing
- 3:02day. That woman with a beautiful look and a healthy look, had become
- 3:08almost a sack of bones, whose body hurt even when she breathed, and
- 3:13Thomas felt increasingly helpless and desperate. That' s when one of his friends
- 3:20from the gang of thieves told him about the pact with the devil. He
- 3:23said he could save his mother, but he' d have to make a
- 3:28deal with the devil. In return at first, Thomas rejected the idea.
- 3:32After all, his mother had always instilled in him devotion to God, so
- 3:38making a covenant with the evil one was almost unthinkable, but his friend convinced
- 3:43him that it was the only way to save his mother and that, after
- 3:47all, God was responsible for his mother being in that State. First,
- 3:53Tomás met with his friend in a dark park that night. He introduced him
- 4:00to a strange and mysterious man who said he was able to do anything for
- 4:03a price. Tomás was scared, but he knew he had no choice.
- 4:11Something had to be done to save his mother and he was willing to do
- 4:15anything to see her well. Again, the mysterious man told Thomas that,
- 4:20in exchange for his mother' s life, he had to do something.
- 4:25He also said he' d know when the time came. All he asked
- 4:30her at the time was to stop stealing. Thomas was confused why he asked
- 4:36for something so simple in exchange for saving his mother, but yet he accepted
- 4:43without further ado. After all, stopping stealing did not seem to be a
- 4:47hard promise to keep, but despite his doubts, my former partner accepted and,
- 4:54to his surprise, the results of that covenant were almost immediate. His
- 5:00mother began to recover, something that seemed impossible and inexplicable to both doctors and
- 5:05me. Until then, everything seemed fine. Mrs Elena fully recovered her health
- 5:14at an impressive rate for anyone and although my partner still had money problems,
- 5:18everything seemed to be improving, but she soon discovered that there was a price
- 5:25to pay for making a pact with the devil. Although her mother had recovered,
- 5:30my ex- partner started having terrible nightmares. He dreamed of being dragged
- 5:35into hell, tortured for all eternity, and though he tried to ignore these
- 5:42dreams, he could not help but feel restless. He even went to the
- 5:46point of not wanting to sleep to avoid having these nightmares, which caused him
- 5:51to have a low performance in any job he could get. Besides, now
- 5:58that he was no longer stealing or r or r the couple had many more
- 6:00problems finding a good job. It was in one of his worst days,
- 6:06after spending hours looking for unsuccessful work, that he met a wealthy- looking
- 6:11man on the street. He told me that at first he didn' t
- 6:15even go through his head to jump him, but as he watched him,
- 6:21he saw how he met a man in a suit, who gave him a
- 6:26huge amount of money. In cash, the temptation was too great. Without
- 6:30thinking twice, my ex- partner assaulted him. It was a terrible mistake.
- 6:36The man turned out to be a well- known businessman in the city
- 6:42and his assault was quickly reported to the authorities. My pair was quickly located
- 6:47and stopped. Taken to the Public Prosecutor' s Office. He didn'
- 6:51t want his mother to find out for the world that he had been arrested
- 6:56for something like stealing, so his only option to get out in a hurry
- 7:00was to call me to bail him out. My surprise at finding out where
- 7:04he had been taking his mother' s medicine money was enormous and I made
- 7:10him swear that he would tell me everything if he wanted me to help him,
- 7:14without his mother ever knowing what he had done. He accepted without objection,
- 7:18so I went immediately to the Public Prosecutor' s Office to remove him.
- 7:24However, nothing I could imagine about his explanation of all that could prepare
- 7:29me for what I was about to hear. I got to the Public Prosecutor
- 7:34' s Office and I paid bail. When he came out, I couldn
- 7:40' t even claim anything, because I saw him in a deplorable state.
- 7:43He was completely pale, as if all the color of his skin had faded
- 7:47away. His eyes were wide open and he was dismayed. I took him
- 7:56immediately to my house, where he did not utter a single word all the
- 8:00way. At some point I could swear I was shaking, and it wasn
- 8:05' t until the next morning that I was finally ready to talk. He
- 8:09told me everything he had done from joining that gang to making a pact with
- 8:13the Devil to save his mother. I heard every dumb word. I couldn
- 8:20' t believe what I was hearing. However, the worst part was apparently
- 8:26still missing, the reason why he had thus left the Public Prosecutor’ s
- 8:30Office. He told me that while he was waiting for his shift, they
- 8:35put him in a cell. He told me that there was an old man
- 8:39in that cell who was on his back and seemed to be whispering something in
- 8:43a strange language. When they left my boyfriend alone with the old man,
- 8:48he began to laugh macabrely and tell him that he had broken his promise.
- 8:54At first, my boyfriend did not relate everything he questioned the old man about
- 8:58what he was saying, causing him to turn around. My boyfriend described the
- 9:03old man as a man of strange appearance, without eyes, that the very
- 9:09wrinkled and although he could not assure it to a hundred percent, it seemed
- 9:15that when he laughed he had the tongue like that of a snake, all
- 9:18decorated with a smell of Sulfur. He told me that it was a terrifying
- 9:22experience and that the image of that old man could not be removed from his
- 9:26head. I felt a chill running around my back listening to his story,
- 9:31but I tried to stay calm and find a logical explanation. Perhaps the old
- 9:37man had been a former prisoner who had been released without my boyfriend noticing,
- 9:41or maybe he was a disguised guard who was playing a heavy joke. But
- 9:48my boyfriend assured me that the guards had said that there was no one else
- 9:52in the cell, which made me doubt my theories. As the days passed,
- 9:56Thomas became increasingly nervous and frightened by what had happened in the cell.
- 10:03Their nightmares have increased since that day. It wasn' t for less after
- 10:09all, what had happened, not a week had passed, but I was
- 10:13there for him trying to give him encouragement and comfort one day. I decided
- 10:20to visit Doña Elena to see how she was and if she needed anything,
- 10:24as she had a time when I hadn' t seen her. Upon arriving
- 10:28at the house he greeted me with a sad and worried look. He told
- 10:33me that for a couple of days the house seemed haunted. There were still
- 10:39shadows and strange noises all over the place. In addition, his son was
- 10:46increasingly paranoid and frightened. What was most disturbing to me was when he told
- 10:50me that he had seen a man brought around the house lately he told me
- 10:56that he had never seen him before and that he seemed to be watching the
- 11:00house. From afar. His description of the man made me tremble because it
- 11:05seemed to be the same as my boyfriend had seen in the cell, only
- 11:09that Doña Elena added that this man, at times it seemed that the house
- 11:15took a heavy atmosphere and with a certain aroma has rotted. I didn'
- 11:18t know what to think of all this, but I knew something very strange
- 11:22was happening. I promised my boyfriend' s mother that I would be aware
- 11:26of everything and that I would help him in whatever way I could, but
- 11:31inside I felt like we were in the middle of something much bigger and more
- 11:35dangerous than we could imagine. The situation became increasingly strange and worrying. I
- 11:43tried to talk to Thomas about it. However, he seemed to be greatly
- 11:48affected by the lack of sleep so he barely listened to me. I decided
- 11:52to stay at my boyfriend' s house that night to make sure everything was
- 11:56okay. But what happened is wide night was something I can never forget.
- 12:03In the middle of the morning, strange noises woke me up. At first
- 12:09I tried to calm down and ignore everything, but then I heard some heavy
- 12:15steps approaching the room where I slept. I tried to wake my boyfriend up,
- 12:20but to my misfortune I had taken the sleeping medication, which I had
- 12:24bought him and was deep asleep. He seemed to hear nothing. It was
- 12:30then that I saw the shadow of a man at the door of the room,
- 12:35I was speechless and unable to move. I didn' t know what
- 12:39to do the man slowly approached me and when I could finally see it clearly,
- 12:45I realized that it was the same man in suit who had been hanging
- 12:48around my boyfriend' s mother' s house. The man stared at me
- 12:52with cold, dark eyes that seemed to want to pierce my soul. Then,
- 12:58with a snoring voice going deep, your boyfriend told me he didn'
- 13:03t keep his promise and now he must pay his debt to me. When
- 13:07this man disappeared and I regained the mobility of my body, I knew I
- 13:11had to do something I loved my boyfriend and I didn' t want to
- 13:15see him like that. The next day I wanted to return to the local
- 13:20priest to bless the house and try to drive away any evil presence there.
- 13:26But on arrival we found a horrible scene. My boyfriend' s mother lay
- 13:31dead on the ground in a terrible way. There was blood everywhere. The
- 13:37expression on his face was of absolute horror. We stay in shock and call
- 13:41the police right away. The house was cordoned off and an investigation opened,
- 13:48but the killer was never found. The death of my boyfriend' s mother
- 13:52was a very hard blow to both of us. After that hard blow,
- 13:56my boyfriend kept repeating that it was all his fault and that he was the
- 14:01one who deserved to die instead of his mother. I tried to comfort him,
- 14:07but he seemed to be increasingly sunk into his own guilt and despair.
- 14:13That' s when I begged him to leave the city and try to start
- 14:16again somewhere else, but he refused outright. He said he couldn' t
- 14:22leave, he was doomed. However, he promised me that he would try
- 14:28to break the covenant he had made with the man and that I should not
- 14:31be with him if I did not succeed. It took several weeks for my
- 14:37boyfriend to stay away from me and everyone, locked up in his room trying
- 14:39to find some way to break the pact. Despite what he had told me,
- 14:46I didn' t support everything I could, but I knew I was
- 14:50fighting something very powerful and dangerous. Finally, one day, my boyfriend left
- 14:56his room. Pa seemed different as if he had accepted his destiny and was
- 15:03ready to face it. He told me he' d found a way to
- 15:07break the pact. He asked me to go to the city, as he
- 15:11did not want me to be around when he tried to break that covenant,
- 15:16which consisted of going to the same place where he had made the covenant.
- 15:20First, he had to contact the devil again in order to break the deal.
- 15:26I didn' t know much about rituals or magic, but I knew
- 15:30my boyfriend needed my support at that difficult time, so he agreed to be
- 15:35there, even if he didn' t want it. I hid behind nearby
- 15:39bushes so I could see everything he was doing. At first, the only
- 15:46thing I could see was him sitting in the middle of a circle of black
- 15:50candles, repeating the same prayer in a strange language over and over again in
- 15:56a moment, a figure began to materialize right in front of Thomas. It
- 16:00seemed at first only a shadow, somewhat deformed, but gradually it began to
- 16:04take shape. This shadow was nothing more and nothing less than the same man
- 16:11I had seen in Thomas' house. Not long ago, there was no
- 16:15doubt that it was him, as his single presence made me feel the deepest
- 16:19of the fears I had ever experienced in my life. I kept looking and
- 16:26I saw how Thomas was trying to talk to him. I couldn' t
- 16:30hear exactly what he was saying, but the tone of voice with which he
- 16:33was doing it was pleading and full of fear. It didn' t take
- 16:37long. When things began to get worse out of nowhere, the wind began
- 16:42to blow heavily to the extent that I believed that the trees would be uprooted
- 16:48from the ground. As soon as this happened, Thomas began to shout that
- 16:52he was the one who had broken the covenant. First he had killed his
- 16:55mother, so then he no longer owed him anything. It was all then
- 17:00that Thomas was thrown into the air with a supernatural force. He struck a
- 17:04few meters from where I was, so I couldn' t resist going to
- 17:08help him I helped him to stand up. The wind blew so loud that
- 17:15the raised earth clouded our sight a little. Still, he recognized me right
- 17:21away. At first, he thanked me for helping him. However, that
- 17:27gratitude was quickly transformed into a claim of why he had not heeded it.
- 17:34To tell you the truth, I didn' t pay much attention to what
- 17:37he was telling me. The only thing I was interested in at the time
- 17:41was how we' d get out of there. Thomas was very hurt by
- 17:47the fall, but he could still walk, so we began to get away.
- 17:51From there. However, we did not get very far away when the
- 17:56presence of that man became present before us again. This was no longer that
- 18:02old man full of wrinkles that I had seen in Thomas' house, but
- 18:06a young and elegant man. Two pointed horns emerged from his forehead and the
- 18:11fear he caused was almost paralyzing. However, Thomas pulled me out of that
- 18:17trance when he shouted that I had nothing to do with all that and that
- 18:21please let me go. I didn' t want to leave, I wanted
- 18:26to stay with Tomás, but that wasn' t my decision. I began
- 18:30to hear inside my head some strange words and after that, everything was nothing
- 18:34but deep darkness. I woke up the next day in the same place and
- 18:41didn' t understand anything that was going on. I searched for Thomas for
- 18:45months without anyone being able to give me a concrete answer about his whereabouts.
- 18:49Finally, I decided that it would be best to go to the city as
- 18:56much as I had wished. Years later by an old friend, I learned
- 18:59that Thomas had just reappeared one day. However, he had gone mad and
- 19:06remembered absolutely nothing about his life. Worst of all, he seemed to have
- 19:11lost his eyes. I went on a visit to the village a few years
- 19:17later to visit some relatives, where I could verify that story, Thomas sat
- 19:22at the church gates asking for money and as soon as I approached to speak,
- 19:26he did not recognize me. I haven' t seen him since,
- 19:30but I still have nightmares and I always sleep with a crucifix next to me.
- 19:36I can never forget what I' ve lived through. I know that
- 19:40we must never play with forces that we cannot understand, otherwise we can end
- 19:44up very badly. Anonymous account
