- 0:02Speaker 1: When I woke up this morning, I was feeling pretty dangerous.
- 0:04Speaker 1: We're on a Cincinnati it's my team, it's my quarterbay
- 0:09Speaker 1: they are well. We thought they were about hello, you
- 0:13Speaker 1: play to win the day. They want you to cook
- 0:16Speaker 1: the dinner. At least they ought to let your shout
- 0:18Speaker 1: for some of the grocery. And on the way up,
- 0:19Speaker 1: we're gonna buy a kneecap all you're getting me playoffs.
- 0:23Speaker 1: I'm just here so I won't get fine. How could
- 0:25Speaker 1: he not be a romantic about football? After? Okay, here
- 0:28Speaker 1: we go. Welcome to the Bench with Benetta Podcast. I
- 0:32Speaker 1: am joined by somebody I'm very excited about, somebody that
- 0:36Speaker 1: I'm trying to win over. I'm actually I'm actually on
- 0:39Speaker 1: a friend audition this entire week, and it makes me
- 0:42Speaker 1: a little bit nervous. I hope that I'm doing okay
- 0:44Speaker 1: so far. Dan Hans has joins us from NFL Network.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Around the NFL. This has been along to Power Rankings.
- 0:53Speaker 1: I've filled in on that show before. This has been
- 0:55Speaker 1: a long time coming. Thank you so much for joining us.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I'm so happy to be here. You should understand you
- 0:59Speaker 1: you don't even know what you're up against. What does
- 1:01Speaker 1: that even mean, because people that know me know that
- 1:07Speaker 1: I have a very tight circle of people that I
- 1:09Speaker 1: actually like to hang out with, and it's overly tight.
- 1:12Speaker 1: It's like this guy needs to loosen up and open
- 1:14Speaker 1: things up a little bit. That's the thing, and that
- 1:16Speaker 1: is why I texted you Combine. Everyone had these We
- 1:20Speaker 1: were just talking about dinner reservations. Everyone has these dinner reservations.
- 1:24Speaker 1: I'm like, hey, guys, are we hanging out? Everybody's booked,
- 1:27Speaker 1: booked solid and I am alone basically at a subway
- 1:30Speaker 1: eating dinner by myself all week at Indian I was like,
- 1:34Speaker 1: you know what, I'm coming into Vegas, correct. I'm going
- 1:36Speaker 1: to hit people up and I'm gonna make plans. And
- 1:39Speaker 1: I was messaging and I was like, I feel like
- 1:41Speaker 1: I need to audition to get into this friend group
- 1:42Speaker 1: because you guys, it's very tight knit. It's a little clickie.
- 1:45Speaker 1: It's fine. You guys have known each other for a
- 1:47Speaker 1: really long time. But I'm knocking out the door and
- 1:50Speaker 1: I want in. So let me ask you this. If
- 1:52Speaker 1: this is an audition, okay, no, go ahead. If this
- 1:54Speaker 1: is an audition, I need some notes, yes, okay, What
- 1:58Speaker 1: can I do? What can I change? Like what you know,
- 2:01Speaker 1: give me, give me the rap sheet of like who
- 2:03Speaker 1: which character do I need to become? Well, I would
- 2:06Speaker 1: think that I don't want you to change, and I
- 2:09Speaker 1: think that's not yet. Um. I think there is an audition.
- 2:14Speaker 1: We call it on the Around the NFL podcast. There's
- 2:16Speaker 1: something called a and Graver knows this the grave digger. Uh.
- 2:21Speaker 1: And you're free to use that ip on your show
- 2:23Speaker 1: if you wish. I call him something else. I feel
- 2:25Speaker 1: like I need to divert away from what you guys
- 2:27Speaker 1: are doing. We have our own relationship. That's you know,
- 2:30Speaker 1: that's called it's called a la ravil magnifico. And that's
- 2:33Speaker 1: something that uh. That mean when someone says something to
- 2:37Speaker 1: a group and some type of setting and then they
- 2:40Speaker 1: reveal everything about themselves, usually in a negative way without
- 2:44Speaker 1: even realizing. Okay, I'm and I think the only thing
- 2:47Speaker 1: that I would say to you is don't do that. Huh. Okay,
- 2:50Speaker 1: that's good to know. I need to be careful. At
- 2:51Speaker 1: the same time, don't have anything nice. Listen. Even here's
- 2:55Speaker 1: the thing, here's the thing that might be intimidating rage
- 2:58Speaker 1: is that. And by the way, I like you a lot,
- 2:59Speaker 1: and I you have you're a prospect at the highest levels.
- 3:03Speaker 1: You're like, uh, you're like Cavon Thibadeau today, Like there's
- 3:07Speaker 1: a lot, there's a lot of work in here. But
- 3:10Speaker 1: in terms of the Latavio Magnifico, uh you if you
- 3:14Speaker 1: do mess up and remove yourself from Click consideration, you
- 3:19Speaker 1: won't even know it. So I almost hate. It's like
- 3:24Speaker 1: I'm getting killed off and it's like a shot from
- 3:28Speaker 1: the back of the head. I don't even see it coming. No,
- 3:31Speaker 1: it's okay, though, this is dangerous. Okay, I think I'm
- 3:33Speaker 1: gonna do Okay, You'll be fine. Think there's some post
- 3:36Speaker 1: dinner drinks tonight that I think there's my time to shine.
- 3:39Speaker 1: I think so, and I feel good about it. And honestly, like,
- 3:41Speaker 1: I don't even know the click. What is the clay?
- 3:44Speaker 1: It's it's me Mark, Greg Connie, Ricky. Hollywood's in there,
- 3:50Speaker 1: like Graver's knocking on the door. Yeah, your own producer. Wow,
- 3:55Speaker 1: maybe it is something I could could we could hop
- 3:57Speaker 1: over the line together. We could do that. Maybe there's
- 3:59Speaker 1: only room for one tonight. It's going to be interesting Vegas.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Maybe anything can happen. Speaking of Vegas, you just said
- 4:05Speaker 1: you like Vegas. Are you're a Vegas guy? I don't
- 4:08Speaker 1: think I am not a Vegas person at all. I'm
- 4:11Speaker 1: already having sinus issues. I am not sleeping. I've swept
- 4:15Speaker 1: through the night. I had two cocktails last night, and
- 4:19Speaker 1: I felt like trash this morning. I was like, what,
- 4:21Speaker 1: I had two drinks, but in Vegas two drinks translates
- 4:24Speaker 1: to seven because the way that they're poured, like, it
- 4:27Speaker 1: just doesn't work in my favor. None of it works
- 4:28Speaker 1: in my favor. Why are you a Vegas person? Well,
- 4:30Speaker 1: one of the things, because I do feel very good
- 4:33Speaker 1: about you entering the click if you choose to join.
- 4:35Speaker 1: If I'm pouring the drinks, the old zuser poor is
- 4:38Speaker 1: a five second poor. That's just something you need to
- 4:40Speaker 1: be aware. Oh heads up, Okay, that's not gonna roll
- 4:44Speaker 1: with me, So all right, I just need to be
- 4:46Speaker 1: equipped with water tonight. No, but uh no, I guess
- 4:50Speaker 1: I've always I don't. I don't. I wouldn't consider myself
- 4:53Speaker 1: a bro, but I have some huh bro qualities, like
- 4:57Speaker 1: like what I like hanging out with my buddies and
- 5:00Speaker 1: it's like, hey, hey, let's all go together, get together
- 5:03Speaker 1: and go to Vegas for the long weekend, and I'm like, yeah,
- 5:07Speaker 1: that sounds cool. We're gonna go and we're gonna gamble
- 5:09Speaker 1: and drink a lot and get loose and have fun.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Like I do like to have fun, and I do.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Vegas to me, and I think a lot of it is,
- 5:19Speaker 1: uh goes back to your earliest experiences in the city.
- 5:22Speaker 1: I remember going on a family trip where my uncle
- 5:27Speaker 1: took me and my cousin was very close with and
- 5:29Speaker 1: his fay. I went with them, and then we me
- 5:31Speaker 1: and my cousin, we got we were under age, but
- 5:33Speaker 1: we've had some fun, and then that sticks in your mind.
- 5:37Speaker 1: And then the smell of this place. I love the
- 5:39Speaker 1: smell of the casinos, Oh god it. And you know
- 5:44Speaker 1: what else I like. I like the the the surface
- 5:47Speaker 1: level of it because sometimes in general that's not what
- 5:50Speaker 1: I'm about. But like I like that the draft and
- 5:54Speaker 1: and Vegas are together because I feel like they're a
- 5:56Speaker 1: perfect match. It's it's much more style. I'll been substance.
- 6:02Speaker 1: It doesn't ultimately mean much, but like, let's let's have
- 6:05Speaker 1: some fun, but it could mean everything that's done right,
- 6:09Speaker 1: and I do I do risk like coming off as
- 6:12Speaker 1: a bros end. Yeah, Vegas, baby, I kind of like
- 6:14Speaker 1: it though. It's fun. Huh do you pick up the
- 6:16Speaker 1: cards they hand out in the streets? Um, not a
- 6:18Speaker 1: card guy. Not a card guy. And that would have
- 6:22Speaker 1: showed me a lot about you. So that was a
- 6:23Speaker 1: good answer. Not going to repeat it, but yeah, that
- 6:28Speaker 1: would have been one of those you have been like, oh,
- 6:30Speaker 1: so he's a slimy, cree hard guy. He's a card guy.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Is what draft number? Is this for you? Covering? Oh?
- 6:37Speaker 1: You know what? The draft is the one event that
- 6:39Speaker 1: we've been a little bit kind of come in and
- 6:41Speaker 1: out of. I've been with the company since twenty ten,
- 6:44Speaker 1: which is insane. Um. I was at the Johnny Manzielle
- 6:47Speaker 1: draft and a call to give you a little wow idea.
- 6:50Speaker 1: I remember when Manzelle got drafted by the Browns. Remember
- 6:55Speaker 1: taking a video of Mark uh with my phone and
- 7:00Speaker 1: I'm crying. He was so excited. Oh lord. And then
- 7:04Speaker 1: behind us there was like a rush and it was
- 7:06Speaker 1: Drake running up the steps to go hang out with
- 7:08Speaker 1: Johnny manzell and party, which was a Drake. Yeah what wow,
- 7:16Speaker 1: Tonty that my guy? Um, but like, yeah, this is
- 7:20Speaker 1: so I've been probably a four or five dress, but
- 7:22Speaker 1: this is the first one we've been to our podcast
- 7:25Speaker 1: at n and probably five years um, and I'm excited
- 7:30Speaker 1: to be here. I just I think it's especially as
- 7:33Speaker 1: a Jets fan, it's it's hope season, and it's sorry,
- 7:42Speaker 1: it's hope season. It's like everyone has something to look
- 7:45Speaker 1: forward to. I think it's always been the most optimistic
- 7:50Speaker 1: event on the NFL calendar, and that's why I kind
- 7:53Speaker 1: of like it, even though I don't really know the
- 7:55Speaker 1: college until i'd learned about the prospects over the ramp up.
- 7:58Speaker 1: But it's it's fun. It's kind of cool. Like even
- 8:00Speaker 1: just covering the combine, I'd never done that and this
- 8:02Speaker 1: is my first draft. There is like this kind of
- 8:06Speaker 1: There was a prospect on the plane and Mina comes
- 8:09Speaker 1: was on my plane and she that we were all
- 8:11Speaker 1: kind of like getting up to leave, and he popped
- 8:13Speaker 1: up on a bunch of TVs and she was like, Yo,
- 8:15Speaker 1: look at the TV right now, and it was just
- 8:17Speaker 1: such a cool moment. Like even at the combine, like
- 8:19Speaker 1: there's just this air of like, oh, excitement, anything can happen.
- 8:22Speaker 1: These guys are about to have their lives changed. They're
- 8:24Speaker 1: about a millionaires. Like that's that is like uh, and
- 8:29Speaker 1: you'll like this one. Justin h like two thousand whatever.
- 8:32Speaker 1: It was the draft that he was in. There was
- 8:34Speaker 1: a giant human being sitting in front of me and coach,
- 8:38Speaker 1: and I was like, this, dude's giant. And again I
- 8:40Speaker 1: learned about these players more when they get to the pros.
- 8:43Speaker 1: It was Derek Henry, Derrick Henry sitting in coach probably
- 8:46Speaker 1: literally the last time ever sat in coach his entire life.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Witnessed it. I saw it. I was there. I was
- 8:52Speaker 1: sitting behind him, kicking him, getting mad at him from
- 8:55Speaker 1: reclining his seat. No, it was it's it's cool, it's
- 8:59Speaker 1: it's fun. And again the optimism of it all. Every
- 9:02Speaker 1: guy thirty two first round picks like twenty are gonna
- 9:06Speaker 1: be bus something like that, but not not this weekend,
- 9:10Speaker 1: like right now, it's thirty two for thirty two, it
- 9:12Speaker 1: is kind of cool. Like our boss Charlie keeps on saying, like,
- 9:15Speaker 1: I know that this maybe not the shiniest draft class,
- 9:19Speaker 1: and you know you don't have like a quarterback going
- 9:20Speaker 1: first overall, but like it, as we look out on
- 9:24Speaker 1: these guys, there are hall of famers here and we
- 9:26Speaker 1: don't know who is gonna be yet, but there's just
- 9:28Speaker 1: a lot of excitement. Let me ask you this. Speaking
- 9:30Speaker 1: of excitement, we're in Vegas. We're sitting pool side right
- 9:33Speaker 1: now with our mocktails. We are, And so Colleen and
- 9:36Speaker 1: I go out for a beverage last night. Connie Fox, yeah,
- 9:39Speaker 1: Connie yeah. And somebody actually bought our drinks at the bar.
- 9:42Speaker 1: I saw that and we were like, we still you
- 9:44Speaker 1: hat it? Maybe, but somebody approached us, a man, an
- 9:49Speaker 1: elderly gentleman by any chance. He asked, okay, tell me
- 9:54Speaker 1: if you would do this. He asked Colleen, Hey, I'll
- 9:58Speaker 1: give you two hundred dollars if you let me see
- 10:01Speaker 1: your license, oh christ, And we actually thought about it.
- 10:04Speaker 1: We were like, whoa wall wall? Why? Why do you
- 10:07Speaker 1: want to look at it? And she was just like,
- 10:09Speaker 1: I actually just have a po box on there. I
- 10:10Speaker 1: don't have my undress. And we were like, do we
- 10:12Speaker 1: do it? What does this mean? Like? What's he looking for?
- 10:15Speaker 1: I think maybe they had a bet on how old
- 10:17Speaker 1: she was. Either way, it's not good, but would you
- 10:20Speaker 1: have said yes for two hundred dollars to you? I
- 10:23Speaker 1: can't put a lovely lady and somebody came up to
- 10:27Speaker 1: you and said Hey, I'll give you two hundred dollars
- 10:30Speaker 1: in Vegas for where drinks are a million, you know,
- 10:35Speaker 1: And it would depend where I was in my life
- 10:39Speaker 1: and out family. I needed two hundred dollars. I shoot
- 10:41Speaker 1: him away, like physically ship I know, I think, I
- 10:43Speaker 1: think that sounds like a potential serial killer. So I
- 10:46Speaker 1: think the two hundred dollars is nice. Yeah, it's like, uh,
- 10:52Speaker 1: did you are you a better call? Soltan? I'm sure okay.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Last season there was a spoiler alert he has a
- 10:59Speaker 1: chance to make and grand to go into the desert
- 11:01Speaker 1: and pick up like seven million in bail money. Things
- 11:04Speaker 1: go sideways like that, the greed will get in the
- 11:08Speaker 1: way of like clinical thinking. You have to the shoe
- 11:11Speaker 1: away was the move, Yeah, and that's we did. There
- 11:15Speaker 1: was a moment where he came up to us and said,
- 11:17Speaker 1: I'll give you two hundred dollars if you let me
- 11:19Speaker 1: just look at your idea really quick. And there was
- 11:21Speaker 1: a pause, but there wasn't like what the hell are you?
- 11:24Speaker 1: Like go away, because that's like it doesn't matter where
- 11:26Speaker 1: you are in your life, Like two hundred bucks will
- 11:29Speaker 1: always give you a quick pause and then you have
- 11:31Speaker 1: a chance to reset some things. I was like, two
- 11:34Speaker 1: hundred dollars is you know, a nice meal, but we
- 11:37Speaker 1: don't need that. We're getting our meals expense, thank you
- 11:39Speaker 1: NFL network. I was like, this is not worth it.
- 11:41Speaker 1: But my favorite part about it was Connie was like,
- 11:43Speaker 1: I do have a po box on there. It's not
- 11:45Speaker 1: even my address. She was really, I feel bad. I
- 11:48Speaker 1: said no to her. I said no for her. I
- 11:50Speaker 1: took the two a couple of drinks in Uh no, No,
- 11:53Speaker 1: we weren't getting after it. We had just had. Because
- 11:55Speaker 1: Connie's very she's very fierce in guarding her privacy. I'm
- 11:58Speaker 1: surprised she even, like so many people came up to
- 12:02Speaker 1: Connie Fox and said, oh my god, you're Colleen Wolf.
- 12:04Speaker 1: We I love you so much. Here's my theory, by
- 12:06Speaker 1: the way, and I'm just trying to think, like in
- 12:10Speaker 1: terms of mankind that they were. Him and his buddy
- 12:13Speaker 1: were like, that's Colleen Wild, I'm telling you, and he's like, nah, yeah,
- 12:16Speaker 1: you're wrong, You're wrong, right, and that it was like
- 12:18Speaker 1: the only way to prove it. They're probably trying to
- 12:21Speaker 1: look at her and they probably didn't think like, hey,
- 12:23Speaker 1: are you calling it sounds like something like a literal
- 12:26Speaker 1: serial killer instead of just asking somebody what their name is.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Can I take a look at your license? Please? Are
- 12:33Speaker 1: you Colleen? Can I get a self? May I see
- 12:37Speaker 1: your personal identification? Were her personal photographer? That's great? You
- 12:41Speaker 1: know what, colleague, you know you're not. But I'm glad
- 12:45Speaker 1: that you were there to help Colleen because if she
- 12:48Speaker 1: did do it, whether she was of sound mind or
- 12:51Speaker 1: not at that point in the night, um, she would
- 12:53Speaker 1: have woke up being completely annoyed and paranoid about it. So,
- 12:57Speaker 1: by the way, that's a reversal out of you, my nificll.
- 13:01Speaker 1: That's something that we're taking into account. That's a bonus.
- 13:04Speaker 1: That's a ten point bonus. Okay, okay, this is very exciting.
- 13:09Speaker 1: This is very exciting. I'm a good friend. I'm a
- 13:11Speaker 1: good friend. That's a huge friend. Okay, let me ask
- 13:13Speaker 1: you this. We've obviously got this brand new baby of
- 13:16Speaker 1: a podcast and we're chugging along and it's so much fun.
- 13:18Speaker 1: You have this, you have the opposite, you have a
- 13:20Speaker 1: behemoth of a podcast. Soup. I have never gone on
- 13:27Speaker 1: a podcast. I've never gone on someone's podcast before, and
- 13:30Speaker 1: just my Twitter exploded, like you guys have so many
- 13:33Speaker 1: amazing loyal fans that love you guys so much. How
- 13:37Speaker 1: did you find this? What? Like so many people have podcasts.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I felt so silly when I announced, like, oh and
- 13:45Speaker 1: also I have a podcast, I too, I too, am
- 13:49Speaker 1: joining the game, Like, great, we need another podcast? But
- 13:53Speaker 1: how do you make it work? There's literally thousands? Is
- 13:55Speaker 1: it just like getting was it getting in early? How
- 13:57Speaker 1: did you get you guys? Just certain that certainly was
- 14:02Speaker 1: a big factor. Not that podcasts in twenty twelve or
- 14:07Speaker 1: twenty thirteen weren't prevalent, because they were, But now it
- 14:11Speaker 1: is such it's so much harder to cut through the noise. Yeah,
- 14:16Speaker 1: you need to be super talented, which you are, rage
- 14:20Speaker 1: so I think you can. But I'm saying like that
- 14:22Speaker 1: that is such a challenge to do it. Like when
- 14:25Speaker 1: we started at n there wasn't really and I could
- 14:30Speaker 1: be wrong about this, but I'm pretty sure we're right.
- 14:33Speaker 1: There wasn't anybody that on Sunday Night was recapping every
- 14:37Speaker 1: game that happened. Yeah, like, and that was something we did,
- 14:40Speaker 1: and now most podcasts do it that cover the NFL scene,
- 14:44Speaker 1: But back then it was like the lightbulb hadn't gone
- 14:47Speaker 1: off yet. And this is before Now podcasts are now
- 14:49Speaker 1: incredibly financially valuable if you could build a successful one
- 14:53Speaker 1: and all that stuff. So yeah, the timing matters, but
- 14:56Speaker 1: also like for us, the chemistry was the big thing,
- 15:00Speaker 1: and that was all luck. I mean, Mark and I
- 15:04Speaker 1: started working at the company within six weeks of each
- 15:06Speaker 1: other as part time copy editors at NFL dot com,
- 15:11Speaker 1: and we became fast friends. And then that quickly evolved
- 15:15Speaker 1: into like, all right, how do we, you know, get
- 15:18Speaker 1: get on Mike and Dave Damashek who's a friend of
- 15:21Speaker 1: mine and also somebody I've always looked up to in
- 15:24Speaker 1: the business, like gave us our first opportunity to be
- 15:27Speaker 1: on Mike on the show and then gave us a
- 15:29Speaker 1: ten minute spinoff. But then the other half of it
- 15:31Speaker 1: is Mark and I had natural chemistry and had the
- 15:33Speaker 1: ambition to do it. Yeah, Greg comes over from Pro
- 15:36Speaker 1: Football Talk, Chris Westling god rest his soul comes over
- 15:40Speaker 1: from Rhoda World where he worked with Greg, and then
- 15:42Speaker 1: it just all connected. So that was just like, that
- 15:46Speaker 1: is luck, that's kismet, that's just something else in the air.
- 15:49Speaker 1: So it's kind of like timing matters and it's big,
- 15:52Speaker 1: But for us, it was just like, wow, like there
- 15:56Speaker 1: was just a chance that we had and we put
- 15:58Speaker 1: in the work. Obviously that matters too, but I think
- 16:01Speaker 1: it's mostly luck. I think everything happens for a reason.
- 16:03Speaker 1: You guys were at the right place at the right time,
- 16:05Speaker 1: and you all just fell in love with each other,
- 16:07Speaker 1: and and we America have fallen in love all of you,
- 16:12Speaker 1: not everyone. Okay, it's time for the bench bachelorette. As
- 16:20Speaker 1: you know, I am kind of trying to find a
- 16:23Speaker 1: new love in my life. And um, you mentioned that
- 16:27Speaker 1: you're hopeful as a Jets fan, and I took that
- 16:30Speaker 1: seriously when you said that, and I just wanted you
- 16:32Speaker 1: to you know, they're still on the table, the Jets,
- 16:35Speaker 1: and I just I just wanted you more one more
- 16:39Speaker 1: bit of advice in the podcast game. Let's be honest
- 16:41Speaker 1: with the audience. You're very dismissive. You're very dismissive of
- 16:45Speaker 1: my idea about before we started. I was like, I
- 16:47Speaker 1: want to pitch you on the Jets, and she was like,
- 16:50Speaker 1: screw you don't even yeah no, but I I feel
- 16:55Speaker 1: like I have a there's a chance here for me
- 16:57Speaker 1: to sell you on the Jets. I feel confident I'm
- 16:59Speaker 1: listening here we go. All right, so you're a Canadian? Yeah, nice,
- 17:06Speaker 1: excited about that album? Um no, I think what drew
- 17:12Speaker 1: you to the Browns? Let's start there. Okay, what drew
- 17:14Speaker 1: me to the Browns? For the thing? Yeah, what drew
- 17:17Speaker 1: mey to the Browns was, Um, I was new to football.
- 17:20Speaker 1: I did not grow up watching football. I grew up
- 17:22Speaker 1: watching hockey in Canada, Like it just was not something
- 17:25Speaker 1: that was on in my household. And then I got
- 17:28Speaker 1: hired to a show and I wanted to find a
- 17:30Speaker 1: team to root for because I just felt like it
- 17:32Speaker 1: was gonna help me understand the game more. And the
- 17:33Speaker 1: Browns were on hard Knocks and they were a mess.
- 17:39Speaker 1: And I like mess, I like quirky, I like weird.
- 17:43Speaker 1: I am drawn to the weirdos in the room because
- 17:46Speaker 1: I am usually the weirdo in the room, and that's
- 17:47Speaker 1: why I loved them. They had lost forever and they
- 17:50Speaker 1: had a beer fridge that needed to be unlocked. Baker
- 17:53Speaker 1: came in. Um had such a big and bright personality,
- 17:57Speaker 1: and I was just like, these guys are lovable losers,
- 18:00Speaker 1: That's what. But don't try and say I'm not saying
- 18:04Speaker 1: anything yet. Okay, Well, That's why I love the Browns.
- 18:07Speaker 1: I will say, with the exception of the U the
- 18:10Speaker 1: beer cooler Needing to be Unlocked, which was a a
- 18:14Speaker 1: light beer ad promotion, a beautiful marketing scheme. It was great.
- 18:18Speaker 1: But let's let's not like tie that directly to the
- 18:20Speaker 1: organization and what makes them alluring. The Jets check all
- 18:25Speaker 1: of those boxes, and then on top of that, and
- 18:28Speaker 1: on top of that, on top of that, their little brother,
- 18:33Speaker 1: the Giants, will always be the Tiffany team in that town.
- 18:36Speaker 1: We always are laughed at and mocked. And I would say,
- 18:40Speaker 1: I would tell you if we were doing this five
- 18:42Speaker 1: years ago, Rache, I would never ever say, come join us.
- 18:47Speaker 1: You're full of it. But I think no, Justin knows
- 18:51Speaker 1: I'm buying in on this new regime. I think the
- 18:55Speaker 1: Jets have a few years. It's a couple of years
- 18:57Speaker 1: away from being a real team, but I think they're
- 18:59Speaker 1: on a track that if just like two or three
- 19:02Speaker 1: things click in the next twelve months, they are a team.
- 19:06Speaker 1: And I'm not saying that you're looking to be a
- 19:07Speaker 1: front runner, but there if you if you pick the Jets,
- 19:11Speaker 1: If this exercise ends with you picking the Jets, everyone
- 19:15Speaker 1: that is invested in it and invested in you will
- 19:17Speaker 1: go wow, Okay, she's in. But they would say that
- 19:22Speaker 1: about everybody pick the Broncos like, oh, Chargers, Oh, justin
- 19:27Speaker 1: Herbert still on the chopping block. I'm just saying, only
- 19:30Speaker 1: the Chargers owner is very invested in me becoming a fan. Okay,
- 19:33Speaker 1: where's your ownership? Well, I don't want to talk about
- 19:35Speaker 1: my ownership so much, but I say, there's only so
- 19:38Speaker 1: much we could say here, but don't. Let's not dig
- 19:40Speaker 1: too deep in general, too high up the chain. That's
- 19:44Speaker 1: my pitch. My pitches is that they are They are
- 19:46Speaker 1: lovable losers. They are a meimable, They are a laughing
- 19:50Speaker 1: stock in a lot of ways. But they also have
- 19:52Speaker 1: one of the great figures in the history of the league,
- 19:55Speaker 1: and Joe Namath. They have a fan base that is
- 19:58Speaker 1: downtrotten and beaten down, but ever optimistic but also pessimistic.
- 20:03Speaker 1: I think there is I think there's something there for
- 20:05Speaker 1: a Banetta. If a Banetta was drawn to the Browns,
- 20:09Speaker 1: I'm Jets. I am not. I'm gonna be honest with you,
- 20:14Speaker 1: Jets were probably on the chopping block within the next
- 20:17Speaker 1: few weeks. I'm gonna be honest with you right now.
- 20:19Speaker 1: You bought them sometime, Okay, It's just I'm not here
- 20:22Speaker 1: to win you over completely. I just want you to
- 20:24Speaker 1: like if, if, if you're thinking about them in a
- 20:27Speaker 1: slightly different way. And I actually feel guilty because I
- 20:30Speaker 1: have two young sons, a seven year old and a
- 20:32Speaker 1: five year old, and I've been so disillusioned as a
- 20:34Speaker 1: fan because I just celebrated my forty second birthday. Wow,
- 20:41Speaker 1: something I caught in your throat there, you were just
- 20:43Speaker 1: trying to get my mortality. Yeah, I just I all
- 20:48Speaker 1: I want. I love my dad, Keith Hanss, who was
- 20:52Speaker 1: a Joe Namath guy fan, grew up in the Bronx
- 20:55Speaker 1: and was a Yankee fan, but didn't didn't connect with
- 20:58Speaker 1: the Giants who also played Yankee Stadium back then. But
- 21:01Speaker 1: then Joe Namath showed up with his style and his
- 21:04Speaker 1: confidence and change the change of the sport forever. And
- 21:08Speaker 1: now here I am at my age and my father
- 21:11Speaker 1: entering old age, and we've still never had a Super
- 21:14Speaker 1: Bowl together, and that eats at me and I that's
- 21:18Speaker 1: why I'm giving my sons as any father should. If
- 21:21Speaker 1: you're listening, by the way, don't tell them who to
- 21:23Speaker 1: root for like, I'm leaving it open ended, and what
- 21:26Speaker 1: my youngest son is leaning towards the Chargers because we're
- 21:28Speaker 1: here in LA and my older son is more a
- 21:31Speaker 1: Jets guy, and I'm like, Okay, if you want to
- 21:33Speaker 1: do that, that's for you. So I can't tell anybody
- 21:35Speaker 1: what to do, because I understand being a Jets fan
- 21:37Speaker 1: has been very hard for me. But the payoff, if
- 21:39Speaker 1: it ever happens, Rachel, I get it. If it ever happens,
- 21:43Speaker 1: I get it. You're getting in on the ground floor
- 21:45Speaker 1: and all a lot of the excavation is complete, so
- 21:49Speaker 1: nobody will say you're you're a front runner. People won't
- 21:52Speaker 1: realize that we've been already down there by the core
- 21:55Speaker 1: of the earth. Now we're right beneath the surface. Potentially
- 21:58Speaker 1: that's it. Listen, like I said, you yourself some time,
- 22:01Speaker 1: I am going to really think about this, but I
- 22:03Speaker 1: think that this is the perfect segue. We are in Vegas,
- 22:06Speaker 1: of course for the draft, which we've not spoken Brohl,
- 22:10Speaker 1: we've not really spoken about. But that's fine. That's not
- 22:12Speaker 1: what this podcast does. But I thought we would play
- 22:14Speaker 1: a fun little game. Okay, Um, you know we're not
- 22:17Speaker 1: gambling here. We're here on work. We're not I would
- 22:19Speaker 1: love to, but we're not gambling. We are not allowed.
- 22:21Speaker 1: We're on a work chat. But I thought that there
- 22:23Speaker 1: was there's there's a fun little game that we could
- 22:25Speaker 1: play right now that um, you know, as much as
- 22:28Speaker 1: I would love to give you, Well, what do you say?
- 22:30Speaker 1: Should we kick off two teams? One of his choice? Okay, okay,
- 22:34Speaker 1: I am handing you the keys to kick off a
- 22:37Speaker 1: team on this show yourself your own choice, and then
- 22:42Speaker 1: we are going to do a Russian roulette because we're
- 22:46Speaker 1: not allowed to gamble. We're gonna do a roulette where
- 22:49Speaker 1: we choose a number and that's going to kick off
- 22:51Speaker 1: a team. So who would you be so upset if
- 22:54Speaker 1: I do make it into the friend group? Okay, um,
- 22:57Speaker 1: who would you be so upset to see me cheer for? You?
- 23:00Speaker 1: Choose a team, will tell you if they're still alive.
- 23:02Speaker 1: So the Patriots are out. Good job cowboys. Oh well,
- 23:09Speaker 1: the Cowboys load up the chamber with a single round
- 23:13Speaker 1: and let's stand that. Okay, I am open to this.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Cowboys are out of the league. You know, I'm trying
- 23:21Speaker 1: to help you, Rachel, because if you if this exercise
- 23:24Speaker 1: ever ended with you being like sending out all social
- 23:27Speaker 1: media bulletins. I'm a Cowboys fan. Now you'd get that
- 23:29Speaker 1: would destroyed and points for you in the friendship category
- 23:34Speaker 1: because you're right. Okay, so Cowboys, I'm so sorry Dallas Cowboys.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Jerry Jones, mister Jones, we've met a few times. It
- 23:40Speaker 1: was absolutely terrifying every single time we did. I'm so sorry.
- 23:44Speaker 1: We are going to be letting go of the Cowboys
- 23:46Speaker 1: on the bench Bachelorette, they're out. Oh you just made
- 23:51Speaker 1: that decision. I thought that for some reason, I was
- 23:54Speaker 1: expecting a gun to be involved reality one out of
- 23:57Speaker 1: six chance, but the actually that would work A pool
- 23:59Speaker 1: sidevoted them off the island, You voted them off the
- 24:04Speaker 1: Jets thing would be great, but I would understand if
- 24:06Speaker 1: you went a different direction. But I actually do feel
- 24:08Speaker 1: like I did something good today by helping you. There,
- 24:10Speaker 1: you did, But hold on, We're not done. Okay, we
- 24:13Speaker 1: need to do a Russian Roulette style ki cough. Do
- 24:17Speaker 1: you know what Russian roulette is? I do somebody gets
- 24:20Speaker 1: passes away. Maybe if if the wrong triggers the movie?
- 24:27Speaker 1: What's the film? What's the famous film with the Russian
- 24:29Speaker 1: Roulette scene? I know you're talking about, well he's so young.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Oh okay, all right, thank you, thank you. Just what's
- 24:35Speaker 1: the movie All Day Afternoon? Never seen it? Maybe? Okay? Okay,
- 24:43Speaker 1: we're playing roulette. We were playing bench bachelor at Roulette. Okay,
- 24:47Speaker 1: I need you to give me a number between one
- 24:49Speaker 1: and what one and twenty seven? Seven? Say number one
- 24:55Speaker 1: between twenty seven and this is going to whatever you choose.
- 24:58Speaker 1: It's my favorite numbers. Twenty three, so that's easy. Twenty three, okay, justin,
- 25:04Speaker 1: who is number twenty three? Somebody is about to get
- 25:08Speaker 1: kicked off bench? No, not so lucky? All right? Whatever?
- 25:15Speaker 1: Would you be mad if it was the Jets, It's not.
- 25:19Speaker 1: That would be the Jets. Luck. I would go on
- 25:21Speaker 1: that at Passion play and they'd be gone. Say goodbye
- 25:24Speaker 1: to the Atlanta Falcons. With that, I'm okay with that.
- 25:29Speaker 1: I'm okay with that. That's a good one. I'm okay
- 25:31Speaker 1: with that. One of my very good friends, Sara, is
- 25:33Speaker 1: a massive Falcons fan. That's Chris Brockman's exactly. I hear
- 25:38Speaker 1: the worst things. Okay, so much pain, Thank you, thank you,
- 25:42Speaker 1: thank you. Two quick clarifications. One, any Cowboys fans that
- 25:45Speaker 1: are gonna listen to this and be mad at me.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Just no, it's not personal. It's just you guys don't
- 25:49Speaker 1: need more bandwagon fans jumping on. No, and that's exactly right.
- 25:52Speaker 1: I've been getting out of the bandwagons early. Woman over there,
- 25:56Speaker 1: somebody a woman by the pool. Cowboys and cowboy fans,
- 26:00Speaker 1: ma'am for the Falcon oh commanders, ma'am, oh boy. All right,
- 26:08Speaker 1: well we'll finish that conversation later. No, but um wait,
- 26:12Speaker 1: hang on, let me let can recalibrate everything in my mind.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Um No, the Falcons fans I have so much respect for.
- 26:21Speaker 1: I was at twenty eight three Super Bowls and that
- 26:25Speaker 1: was obviously I have so much empathy for that fan base.
- 26:30Speaker 1: But at the same time, like, so there's there's a
- 26:32Speaker 1: Falcons fan out there that would pitch them the way
- 26:34Speaker 1: I just pitched the Jets. Yeah, but I just I
- 26:36Speaker 1: want you to be happy. I want you to find, like,
- 26:38Speaker 1: if you don't pick the Jets, find that that team
- 26:42Speaker 1: that is right beneath the surface. Falcons they have to excavate.
- 26:46Speaker 1: They're rebuilding to figure some stuff. They're five years away potentially. Yeah,
- 26:50Speaker 1: um okay, well, Cowboys, Falcons. I'm so sorry, But you
- 26:55Speaker 1: are no longer on bench rip. I kind of nailed
- 26:58Speaker 1: this for you. I really helped you. I think I
- 27:00Speaker 1: really think you did. Those are two teams that I
- 27:02Speaker 1: absolutely would have gotten rid of. And it's getting We're
- 27:04Speaker 1: getting close, Like the weeks are going by very quickly,
- 27:06Speaker 1: and I will have a new love of my life
- 27:08Speaker 1: sooner or rather than later. How serious are you about this?
- 27:10Speaker 1: Honestly though? About the Jets, No, about this whole stick.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Stop trying to sell me on the Honestly, it's it's
- 27:17Speaker 1: a little bit tough because I feel like it was
- 27:19Speaker 1: a really fun idea first. I'm gonna be honest with you,
- 27:20Speaker 1: it was really fun idea at first, and then I
- 27:23Speaker 1: went into like a little bit of a grieving period
- 27:25Speaker 1: about the Browns. And I'm sure Mark is dealing with
- 27:27Speaker 1: the same thing. Like I really really enjoyed being a
- 27:32Speaker 1: Browns fan. And I'm like going through I'm like doing
- 27:34Speaker 1: my laundry, and I'm like, my boyfriend had just gotten
- 27:37Speaker 1: back from Cleveland, like literally the week before the thing
- 27:39Speaker 1: was announced, and he got me a brand new sweater,
- 27:42Speaker 1: like a brown sweater. Going through my wardrobe, I have
- 27:45Speaker 1: so many Browns things that I've acquired over the last
- 27:48Speaker 1: few years. It just sucks. But it just makes me sad.
- 27:52Speaker 1: It just really bumps. And here's the thing with Mark,
- 27:55Speaker 1: and Mark's one of my closest friends, and as passionate
- 27:58Speaker 1: as I am about the Jets, he's somehow more passionate
- 28:01Speaker 1: about the Browns. I have my doubts that he's actually
- 28:04Speaker 1: able to divorce himself from the team, because once you're in,
- 28:07Speaker 1: you're in and there's no getting out. Your circumstances are different.
- 28:12Speaker 1: I think that's why it's believable to me that you
- 28:15Speaker 1: might be able to break free and reboot, reboot. But
- 28:18Speaker 1: I just wonder if if your ultimate fan journey has
- 28:22Speaker 1: got to be more organic, and you know what, maybe
- 28:26Speaker 1: maybe there will be some organicness that happens on this journey,
- 28:31Speaker 1: Like maybe I maybe, guys, what a plot twist if
- 28:35Speaker 1: I came to the end and I was one of
- 28:37Speaker 1: those bachelors that said I'm not ready. Oh that move, Wow,
- 28:42Speaker 1: that season finale would garner so many views. I feel
- 28:46Speaker 1: like anything could happen this weekend at the draft where
- 28:49Speaker 1: you suddenly you like one of the prospects that can
- 28:52Speaker 1: shake by the team, or during hard knocks, the Lions
- 28:55Speaker 1: could totally win you over because that's happened to you
- 28:57Speaker 1: before or you go. A lot of events still have
- 28:59Speaker 1: to lay out. Speaking of we really have not talked
- 29:03Speaker 1: about the draft. Is is is there anything I'm not asking
- 29:05Speaker 1: the most generic draft question we don't have to talk about.
- 29:11Speaker 1: All I could say is that this reminds me of
- 29:14Speaker 1: the twenty thirteen draft, where there was no premium quarterbacks
- 29:19Speaker 1: out there, so that just made everything so much more unpredictable.
- 29:23Speaker 1: So while so while it's not as sexy per se
- 29:28Speaker 1: in terms of like, oh, who's this absolute stud future
- 29:33Speaker 1: Hall of Famer we know this or even Trevor Lawrence
- 29:35Speaker 1: last year, some of the bloom was off the roads.
- 29:37Speaker 1: I don't think it should be, but like it was like, whoa,
- 29:39Speaker 1: the Jaguars just got somebody Zach Wilson on the Jets. Yeah,
- 29:43Speaker 1: who is despite some rocky rookie year business, is still
- 29:46Speaker 1: a highly interesting, intriguing second year player. The fact that
- 29:51Speaker 1: we don't have those type of players, but you know
- 29:53Speaker 1: we do have is all of the mock drafters are
- 29:57Speaker 1: pooping their pants rage. There's gonna be so unpredictable. We
- 30:01Speaker 1: have no idea how this is going to play out.
- 30:02Speaker 1: So you get to enjoy that side of thing. Yeah,
- 30:04Speaker 1: I'm sure there's going to be some pretty crazy moves happening.
- 30:07Speaker 1: Um let me ask you this. We were talking about
- 30:10Speaker 1: hugs earlier, like commissioner hugs, and how there have just
- 30:14Speaker 1: been so many messy ones, just so many. Oh, like
- 30:17Speaker 1: you can't even watch them. I was like looking at
- 30:19Speaker 1: highlight reels and I was like, this is too painful.
- 30:21Speaker 1: What would be your go to? Would you just do
- 30:23Speaker 1: in like a quick love you know what I would
- 30:27Speaker 1: do bye bye? Because I would say I would want
- 30:30Speaker 1: to like Mac Jones last year when he did his
- 30:33Speaker 1: like Vince McMahon walk on the stage and people were like,
- 30:36Speaker 1: oh that guy, he stands out. You want to do
- 30:37Speaker 1: something that stands out. What if you went like hard
- 30:41Speaker 1: and firm with a dad handshake, just going hard, no doubt,
- 30:45Speaker 1: just just a handshake, no contact, firm grip bang bang bang,
- 30:51Speaker 1: thank you? That is a bold move? Or you well,
- 30:54Speaker 1: this was this a little strong, But you can like
- 30:56Speaker 1: salute a military style. You just collect, like do something memorable.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Just don't be basic. I would say, okay, don't be basic. Okay.
- 31:05Speaker 1: We were trying to do it like a guide for
- 31:08Speaker 1: these draft prospects on how to get out of this
- 31:11Speaker 1: without becoming viral. Um, yeah, but somebody, I feel like
- 31:14Speaker 1: a lot of these guys want to be viral. You
- 31:16Speaker 1: want to stand viral for the wrong race if you
- 31:19Speaker 1: don't want to go in for a hug and then
- 31:21Speaker 1: almost like kiss the commissioner on the lips, which has
- 31:23Speaker 1: almost happened before that's happened. Yeah, thank you so much
- 31:26Speaker 1: for joining us. Yeah, we are both well. I will
- 31:29Speaker 1: speak for sweating. Yeah, we have really enjoyed these mocktails.
- 31:35Speaker 1: Thank you for joining the bench. We've been at a podcast.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Buy Cowboys and Goodbye Falcons. I feel good about it.
- 31:41Speaker 1: The Falcons fans, you know where I'm at. You know
- 31:43Speaker 1: where my heart is at. Cowboys fans, One less bandwagon Jump.
- 31:47Speaker 1: You'll be You'll survive, You'll be fine, all right. Tune
- 31:49Speaker 1: in next week. We got a fresh episode post Vegas.
- 31:52Speaker 1: That one should be interesting. Catal
