- 1:54Lindgren. She runs an organization that's
- 1:57dedicated to mobilizing mentors with transformative courses and

- 2:07relationships. We talk about her book called
- 2:10Mentoring Made Real, The Power of Authentic Connection.
- 2:15And you guys, if you're anything like me, then you know how much
- 2:18we need that spiritual mentorship in our lives no
- 2:23matter what age we are, and how we can be a mentor and be
- 2:27pouring into someone else's life as well.
- 2:30We cover everything on mentorship as Nancy reveals the
- 2:34four pillars of mentoring. And it's so good.
- 2:38Love everything Nancy shares with us.
- 2:41And I can't wait to implement this mentorship in my church.
- 2:45And if you're interested in that as well, the link is in show
- 2:50notes and she shares at the end of this conversation.
- 2:53OK, let's get to it. Here's my guest, Nancy Lindgren.
- 2:58Hey, Nancy, welcome to She Speaks Life.
- 3:00I'm so glad you're here today. Oh, thanks for having me, Jamie.
- 3:04I'm thrilled to be here today, too.
- 3:07Your message is incredible. I can't wait to dive in.
- 3:10We're going to talk about mentorship, and I don't think
- 3:13I've ever had anybody on here yet to talk about the impact and
- 3:18the meaning of mentoring others and those mentoring
- 3:23relationships and how essential it is as as women encourage and
- 3:28love each other. Well, so I can't wait to dive
- 3:32into that further. But before we get started, I'd
- 3:36love for you to share your favorite scripture verse and why
- 3:40it's special to you. Well, I love that question And
- 3:44this verse really as a young girl became my life verse.
- 3:48And it's John 3:30 and it's John the Baptist talking about Jesus
- 3:53that he says he must become greater.
- 3:55I must become less. And another translation says he
- 3:58must increase, I must decrease. And really, that's what I want
- 4:02my life to be about. I want to be pointing people to
- 4:04him. I want, you know, even in
- 4:06mentoring, it's not about me as a mentor.
- 4:08It's really about God. And I remember a moment in time,
- 4:12probably 15 years ago. I was sitting with my daughter
- 4:17in the car at a red light and I asked her this question, kind of
- 4:20a morbid question, but I said what do you think would go on my
- 4:23tombstone when I die? And I don't think I've ever
- 4:26asked my kids that question before.
- 4:29And. I know.
- 4:30It's like, what is she going to say?
- 4:32Oh, she was an OK mom, you know? But the words that came out of
- 4:37her mouth so touched me, and she said how great is our God?
- 4:41And I thought that is what I want to be about.
- 4:43And it just was like she got it, you know, at least one out of
- 4:47the four of my kids got it. And that was her response.
- 4:50So that really touched me, you know, I want that's really what
- 4:53I want to be about. And she she captured that.
- 4:55Oh, that's so sweet. I love that.
- 4:58See, I I love asking what people's favorite scripture
- 5:02verses because there's usually something that really makes us
- 5:06find out more about that person. And so that's such a great
- 5:10story. And what a sweet daughter to
- 5:13take it back to Jesus, take it back to God.
- 5:17Not something like, you know, you've done, you know, even
- 5:20though that's great. You leaving a legacy, you know,
- 5:23there's probably something you know, you're probably thinking
- 5:25you'd hear. But for her to direct it back to
- 5:28the Lord like that, I mean. It really touched me.
- 5:31I just, yeah. I don't know if she'd say that
- 5:34today or not, but she did then. Yeah, that's so great.
- 5:38Yeah. So what we are going to talk
- 5:41about mentorship. You are a founder and CEO of
- 5:46more Mentoring which is an organization dedicates to
- 5:49mobilizing mentors and with transformational courses and
- 5:57tools for them to get trained on how to be impactful and mentor
- 6:05others. Well and so you also wrote a
- 6:08book called Mentoring made real the power of authentic
- 6:13connection. And I think all of this is just
- 6:17so important when it comes to US women and how we can mentor.
- 6:23Well or maybe we're in a situation where, gosh, I'm, I'm
- 6:27looking for a mentor. I know I've, I've got, you know,
- 6:32a younger daughter who, you know, looks for that mentor.
- 6:36And so either way, this story is going to speak to both sides,
- 6:43whether you're looking for a mentor or you've just have had
- 6:47this poll from the Holy Spirit on wanting to maybe mentor
- 6:53another woman or. And I really feel like it.
- 6:59I think we can get it confused. Tell me if I'm wrong, that we
- 7:03have to be older than the person, but really, I mean, we
- 7:08can mentor somebody the same age as us, right?
- 7:11And so anyway, I I would love for you to start us off with.
- 7:17Why mentorship. Why this is so meaningful to
- 7:21you. Well, thank you for, you know,
- 7:24just even asking that question because it is meaningful to me
- 7:27and it really started back when I was in high school.
- 7:29So we don't have to be 50 plus to be a writer.
- 7:33You know, I had a really good friend whose mom passed away
- 7:37when she was a sophomore in high school and I was a senior in
- 7:39high school and I just came alongside her and I didn't know
- 7:43what to do. I didn't have experience in
- 7:45that. I just sat with her.
- 7:47I cried with her. I let her talk it out.
- 7:50I walked with her in that. That season.
- 7:52And to this day, she calls me a mentor, even though all those
- 7:55years ago, that word probably wasn't even around, right?
- 7:57Right. Yeah.
- 7:59But to think about someone walking with you.
- 8:01And that's really how I define a mentor, someone who walks
- 8:04alongside another and points them to Jesus.
- 8:07And so age really doesn't even have to matter all that much.
- 8:10It's you have to love Jesus and be willing to come alongside
- 8:13another person. And I think there's so much fear
- 8:17out there of I can't do this. I'm not qualified.
- 8:21You know, I don't know enough. I'll have the wrong answers.
- 8:23Well, back as a senior, I didn't have the right answers.
- 8:26You know, I didn't have advice. But I sat with her, sat with her
- 8:29in a really hard season. And I think that's so much of
- 8:32what a mentor is, is, you know, someone pointed this way.
- 8:37Thank you, Nancy, for sitting with me in the pit, you know,
- 8:40and a mentor often is that person you're willing to go
- 8:43there with another person. And the hard things and the
- 8:46great things. We rejoice with those who
- 8:48rejoice and we mourn with those who mourn.
- 8:50And that's biblical. And I see that is what a mentor
- 8:53is. That's so great because I look
- 8:56back at the women I've mentored and it is walking beside them in
- 9:02the difficult times. That's exactly it.
- 9:05That you hit the definition so well.
- 9:08I love that. OK, you provide 4 pillars of
- 9:14mentoring, cultivating, transformation through love, act
- 9:18of listening, encouragement and prayer.
- 9:21So I would love for us to kind of touch on each key point.
- 9:26I think this is just the foundation of it all.
- 9:30I do too. And you know, I'm a person that
- 9:32loves to keep it so simple. I think if we complicate it and
- 9:35make it really hard, no one is going to do this.
- 9:37And so I just love simplicity, but yet it's so powerful and
- 9:41I've seen it in woman's lives. They have said to me this has
- 9:44changed my life, you know, so I've seen the transformation and
- 9:47it doesn't have to be hard. And so for those of you that are
- 9:51even considering being a mentor out there, you know, start with
- 9:53love. Start with loving another person
- 9:56and maybe that feels a little bit strong or uncomfortable, but
- 9:59think about it as being empathy, You know, step in with them and
- 10:03sit with them, or just being concerned or caring about what
- 10:07they care about. You know, maybe it's a mom with
- 10:09little kids and you step in and you love her kids and you you go
- 10:13to her the park with her kids and you sit and talk, you know,
- 10:17but you, you care about what she cares about.
- 10:20And I think that's huge. And I think today, women really
- 10:23need to be seen. Heard and known and love
- 10:27encompasses that. They are going to feel so loved
- 10:30if they are seen, heard and known.
- 10:32And so I think that's just kind of the bottom line.
- 10:34Jesus loved people really well. He had compassion for them and I
- 10:38think that's how we start in these relationships.
- 10:41We really just care. And we look at what they're
- 10:44going through and we really want to know and be interested in
- 10:48what they care about as well. Yeah.
- 10:50And I think it's important to fill ourselves up with God's
- 10:55love. Like, if we're not connected in
- 10:58that personal relationship with the Lord and we're not filling
- 11:02ourselves up with God's love, it's going to be harder to be
- 11:07empathetic or compassionate or reach out to somebody else with
- 11:12love. So as we develop our, you know,
- 11:17great love for God and and acknowledge how much He loves us
- 11:23and we're filled up with God's love, we can't help but in that
- 11:27outpouring to serve others and to share that love with women
- 11:34and to be there for them and and be a sacrifice.
- 11:38You know, take that time out during your day, sacrifice some
- 11:41of your your time for somebody else.
- 11:44And we can't do that without filling ourselves up with that
- 11:48godly love. Yeah, you're speaking my
- 11:51language, Jamie. I love it because I talk about
- 11:53this I speaking from experience. I love it.
- 11:57Well, I really talk about the goal in mentoring is to fill up
- 12:01and pour out. And so we can't pour anything
- 12:03out. And you use that word overflow.
- 12:05We can't pour anything out unless we're filled up.
- 12:08And I even have a cup sitting here because I love just sharing
- 12:11this visual and it, you know, it says mentor on it.
- 12:13So mentors, you know, we fill up with Jesus every day and we just
- 12:18let him pour into us and then we can pour into someone else's cup
- 12:22that might be really empty. And so many times God has given
- 12:26me a scripture in the morning as I spend time with him and I keep
- 12:29my Bible open and then throughout the day.
- 12:32As people contact me or I text someone, I'm just sharing a
- 12:35verse that God used in my life that day.
- 12:38So as I filled up with him, I pour it out and it's amazing how
- 12:42many hundreds of times people have said how much that has
- 12:45meant to them. And so it's really not us coming
- 12:48up with something new. It's just every day we fill up
- 12:51with Jesus and we pour it out to others.
- 12:53Yeah, it's amazing what can happen in that quiet time, that
- 12:57time with the Lord. You have no idea what that
- 12:59prayer or that scripture verse that you meditated on or noodled
- 13:05on that that would carry over throughout your day or something
- 13:10during the week. I mean it's just I love how God
- 13:14reveals like that. It's really cool when when you
- 13:17can see the the big picture sometimes of what happens in
- 13:21your quiet time and and what you study.
- 13:24OK, so you go from love. OK, active listening.
- 13:28Wow. Active.
- 13:30Listening, I know. So important.
- 13:32I can't even tell you how many times.
- 13:35And this is, you know, not just outside the four walls of
- 13:41church. I mean also inside church where
- 13:45you're having a conversation with somebody and you kind of
- 13:49see eyes drifting, You can see that they are not active
- 13:53listening and they're nodding their head cause somewhere along
- 13:57the line you lost them. So I really appreciate it when
- 14:02I'm having conversations with ladies and they are actively
- 14:07listening, 'cause they lock eyes with you, they're responding to
- 14:11what you're saying. So it ends up being a
- 14:13conversation, not just a monologue.
- 14:17It becomes this dialogue. So I love that you share about
- 14:22active listening, so let's expand on that.
- 14:25Yeah, well, I think it's so biblical.
- 14:27You know, in the Bible, all you know, there's many verses that
- 14:30talk about listen before you speak and you know, so leaning
- 14:34in and really listening to someone's heart, I think instead
- 14:37of being ready with your next answer or be thinking about what
- 14:40am I going to say next. Like you said, look at their
- 14:43eyes and you know, watch the expression, see when they're
- 14:46sad, see when they're happy. And maybe ask another question
- 14:48that takes them deeper into why are you feeling that way, You
- 14:52know, so we're focused on them instead of us and and we lean in
- 14:57and we're paying attention to those things.
- 14:58And and I always want to be coming back with, you know, the
- 15:02listening to remember so I can come back with another question
- 15:05to ask or even the next time we meet, you know, how did that go,
- 15:08you know, when you shared this? So she really knew that I.
- 15:12I was paying attention and and often times I'm writing down
- 15:15because I can't remember very well anymore in my old age, you
- 15:18know, So I want to be writing down and remembering and being
- 15:21willing to to go back to something that she shared.
- 15:24And I think that just means a lot to someone to know they've
- 15:27really been heard. Yeah, I think that follow up is
- 15:31key. I mean, people light up, you
- 15:34know? I know.
- 15:34I knew when somebody comes up to me and says, hey, you know, how
- 15:38was dropping your son off at college?
- 15:41I mean, people remembering where you left off in conversation, it
- 15:46really means a lot. And it goes back to women
- 15:48feeling, you know, seeing, heard and known.
- 15:52So yeah, love that active listening and being intentional
- 15:57with that and making sure we're respecting others and really
- 16:03taking in what they're saying and answering or asking
- 16:06questions is key too. And it's not about you and I do
- 16:11love that asking the questions, moving on to encouragement.
- 16:17This is a biggie. And this is something that has,
- 16:21you know, really hit home with me and made it an importance,
- 16:27made it intentional in my life to encourage others.
- 16:32Because I know what it does for me and I'm no different than any
- 16:37other woman. So let's hear about
- 16:39encouragement. Well, I love that word,
- 16:42encouragement. And you know, it is a spiritual
- 16:44gift. So some people have the
- 16:46spiritual gift of encouragement and it comes really natural and
- 16:48it just flows out of their life. You know, I have a relative in
- 16:52my life and she walks in the door and she's just so positive
- 16:55and encouraging and just life giving, you know, It's just so
- 16:58natural for her. But I want to be around her all
- 17:01the time. I do.
- 17:02Can you live here I. Know, I know.
- 17:05But I have people in my life too, that it doesn't come as
- 17:07natural too. I think they have to work at it
- 17:09a little bit harder and we all can work in it.
- 17:12And so I think just being conscious of focusing on that
- 17:15other person and really the word encourage means to put courage
- 17:19within somebody else. Encourage.
- 17:22And so we're putting courage within them.
- 17:24We're focused on them. We're calling out the good that
- 17:26we see in them and we're just, we're focused on them instead of
- 17:30us. And I think we.
- 17:31We all need it. And, you know, even I think
- 17:35encouragement comes probably more naturally for me.
- 17:37And so I love to encourage people.
- 17:39But there's times like I asked the Lord for encouragement when
- 17:42I having a hard day or I'm just feeling discouraged.
- 17:45I asked him, God, would you just send someone to encourage me
- 17:48today? And he so often does, whether
- 17:51it's just a little text or a verse or something.
- 17:54But I just think we all need it, you know?
- 17:56And there's times where encouragement can mean we're
- 17:59just sharing our story or we're sharing a.
- 18:01Verse or we're sharing something uplifting, or we're speaking
- 18:04life over someone. There's different ways to do it,
- 18:08but I think we all need it desperately.
- 18:11Yeah. You never know what that will do
- 18:15for somebody in their life. It could totally change their
- 18:18trajectory and you know, head for something that they feel
- 18:23called to. And your encouragement just gave
- 18:27them that that boost to step forward in faith and do it.
- 18:31So yeah, you never know what those seeds do.
- 18:35And so important and then lastly, but probably the most
- 18:41important here is prayer. So let's hear about prayer.
- 18:46Absolutely. This is where I, you know, with
- 18:48mentoring, we call it prayer focused mentoring at our
- 18:52ministry. Anyway, that's what we want to
- 18:54be about and it's a focus on God.
- 18:57It's not like the mentor has to come in and give all this great
- 18:59advice, you know, or wisdom. It's like we go to prayer when
- 19:03that woman is sharing these hard things.
- 19:05I'm not there going, here's your answers, 123.
- 19:08Here's how to change it. Let's go to God together.
- 19:11And so that has been the greatest encouragement of all
- 19:14when we seek God. God answer our prayers and He's
- 19:18at work and He encourages us through His scripture.
- 19:22That's where truly lives are transformed and that's where
- 19:25I've heard this has changed my life.
- 19:27It's the prayer focused mentoring.
- 19:28And so I like to call it these four principles of prayer.
- 19:33And we look up, first of all, every time we pray together, we
- 19:36look up at God. We start with praise, We look at
- 19:39his attributes, his character. And I've written mentoring
- 19:43guides where we just kind of help people walk through this
- 19:45prayer time because sometimes it's hard, it's not always a
- 19:47natural thing to pray together and some people don't have
- 19:50experience in that. So we start with praise and we
- 19:53look at a verse maybe it's God is faithful and we look at a
- 19:57verse and we pray it back to him and say Lord, we love that you
- 20:01are faithful and we just go back and.
- 20:03Forth and praise him for his faithfulness.
- 20:06And then our eyes go in and we look within and we take time to
- 20:09confess. And sometimes that's an awkward
- 20:11thing for people to confess out loud, but it is so freeing and
- 20:16truly it breaks chains. And you know, it says in James
- 20:19516 to confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so
- 20:24that you may be healed. And the prayer of a righteous
- 20:26person is powerful and effective.
- 20:29And so confession is really an important time, even though that
- 20:32can be not a natural thing. The more we do it and get used
- 20:36to it and just confessing to God, but in front of another
- 20:39person, it really is powerful. And then we take time to look
- 20:43around. So our eyes look around and we
- 20:45thank God. You know, really, Thanksgiving
- 20:48changes us. We can't be anxious and thankful
- 20:51at the same time. Our bodies can't do it.
- 20:53And so I want to be a woman who is thankful more than she's
- 20:56anxious and that's when peace sets in.
- 20:59And so we look around and we look behind us how God has been
- 21:02faithful to answer prayers in the past and and we look right
- 21:05beside us what he's doing right now.
- 21:07Maybe it's in our kids life or in our life or in our marriage
- 21:11and we thank him for it. But we also look ahead to the
- 21:14future and we thank him for things that he hasn't even done
- 21:18yet. And that increases our faith and
- 21:20it just makes us go God, you are able to do anything.
- 21:24And I'm thankful that you are going to answer this prayer in
- 21:26your perfect time. I don't see it today, but I will
- 21:30choose to be thankful today. And then we go to him.
- 21:33Our eyes go to him in asking. And I love that story in the
- 21:38Bible of the blind man Bartimaeus, where he's standing
- 21:41before Jesus. And Jesus looks him in the eyes
- 21:44and says, what do you want me to do for you?
- 21:47And he says, I want to see. It was as simple as that.
- 21:50And Jesus healed him because of his faith and he was just so
- 21:54specific. And I I want to be the type of
- 21:56women that we are so specific and we believe that Jesus is
- 22:00saying, what do you want me to do for you?
- 22:02I can do anything. Come to me boldly and with great
- 22:06faith, and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable
- 22:10things you would never know. That's another favorite verse of
- 22:13mine. Jeremiah 33, Three.
- 22:15So those are the four simple steps of prayer and principles
- 22:19of prayer that we just like to use our eyes as we pray, but it
- 22:22kind of gives us a structure to walk through as we pray
- 22:25together. But wow, does God respond to
- 22:28those prayers. I've seen it over and over
- 22:29again. Wow.
- 22:31Yes, beautiful. I love that.
- 22:33And the gratitude. It does totally shift your your
- 22:39mood and your perspective on your circumstances and speaking
- 22:46out the the truth too and just. Declaring what you desire.
- 22:53And I was sharing the scripture verse to a friend.
- 22:58Delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your
- 23:02heart. But we always forget that first
- 23:04part of the verse delight and the Lord, because when we're
- 23:08delighting in the Lord. Our our our desires are going to
- 23:12be his desires and we're going to be lined up when we delight
- 23:16in him first and give him that delight a priority #1 front and
- 23:24center. And then He will give us the
- 23:26desires of our heart. So I just love that when we
- 23:31speak that out, it definitely it it brings.
- 23:37Power it. It's just the atmosphere.
- 23:41It moves mountains and it's definitely an importance to me
- 23:48to be able to speak that out and encourage others do it.
- 23:53You may feel a little silly at first, but.
- 23:57Man, I mean it works. It's powerful tool that the Lord
- 24:02has given us a mouth to declare and speak and so and what a
- 24:09testimony for others too when we're speaking out things as
- 24:14well so they know what's going on in your heart and they can be
- 24:19in agreement with you. And then see, yes, the praise
- 24:23report, the miracle on the other side so well.
- 24:27And I'll add one more thing to Jamie.
- 24:29You know I love putting our names right into Scripture and
- 24:33using the word of God when we pray.
- 24:35There is such great power in that, you know, his word goes
- 24:38out and accomplishes what it was sent to do.
- 24:40It doesn't return empty and void.
- 24:42And so we want to be using God's words and we don't know what to
- 24:45pray. We put a name right in there and
- 24:48it goes out with power. And like you said, that
- 24:51declaration, there's something about God's word.
- 24:54You know, when we speak it and declare it, it goes out and it
- 24:57will do it. And so that just gives great
- 24:59confidence too. Yes.
- 25:01OK. So this is not by accident that
- 25:03you mentioned that because I actually have a journal that by
- 25:08the time we air this episode it will be live, but.
- 25:12Versus journal and inside I created the scripture verses
- 25:18where you can write your name on the.
- 25:23In the blanks inside the scripture verse.
- 25:27So I mean, hello, this is a great it's not about me in this
- 25:32episode here, but I can't help but share that this is
- 25:36definitely. A huge importance in my life to
- 25:42put your name in the scripture verse and what it does and it
- 25:46brings that intimate, personal aspect to.
- 25:50The the verses like that and oh love it.
- 25:54Thanks for sharing that so I can have the opportunity to share my
- 25:58journal here. I love it.
- 26:00We are kindred spirits and God's working really in our lives, so
- 26:03I love it. Yeah, we are.
- 26:06OK. Anything else that you would
- 26:08love to share about your program, your organization, more
- 26:12mentoring before we dive into a take away?
- 26:16Yeah. Well, first of all, I had one
- 26:19thought I wanted to bring out as we were talking earlier, you
- 26:22know, the the word intimacy versus information.
- 26:26You know, there's the women out there today have so much
- 26:29information that they are bombarded with and it's coming
- 26:32at them at all times. But intimacy, when someone can
- 26:35truly look into me and see me for who I am, I think they're
- 26:40just longing for that. And so I don't know those words
- 26:44just jump into my spirit when and we're talking about even the
- 26:47listening and the loving. Someone wants to be seen and
- 26:51into me, see, instead of just giving me information.
- 26:54And so I guess our ministry wants to be that we want to help
- 26:58people find each other and once they find each other, help them
- 27:02know what to do. And they sit down in front of
- 27:04each other and go, OK, here's a mentor and here's a mentee.
- 27:07Now what do we do? And so we want to help.
- 27:10And so that's why we've written mentoring guides to just kind of
- 27:13walk people through that. And we have training for and we
- 27:17have training for mobilizers, those people who want to do this
- 27:20at their church and help women connect with each other or maybe
- 27:23at their organization or at their school.
- 27:25And so we call them mobilizers, those who really are the ones
- 27:28who call up people and connect them and prepare them to take
- 27:32action. That's what mobilizing is.
- 27:35And so we love helping, and that's what we're all about.
- 27:38And so I know you can find more information at our website
- 27:41morementoring.org, but check out our mentoring guides even
- 27:44because it's just a great tool to put in someone's hands.
- 27:47I know the very first church I helped back in Minnesota, we
- 27:50lived there and I went to the church we were going to and God
- 27:53had just planted this ministry on my heart.
- 27:55It's almost 10 years ago now and I just went to my church and
- 27:59said God stir and he's doing something.
- 28:01And you know, I don't know really what to do, but here I
- 28:04am. And there was two other women
- 28:06there, and they had the same desire to have mentoring
- 28:10happening at our church. And so the three of us began to
- 28:12pray and ask the Lord, what does this look like?
- 28:15And we just began writing down and, you know, had thoughts.
- 28:18But we prayed for almost a whole year until God really gave us
- 28:21the full plan. And then we kind of launched
- 28:24this mentoring ministry that we really didn't know what we were
- 28:26doing. But 65 women signed up that
- 28:29first year, and it was so encouraging.
- 28:32And so we didn't have a mentoring guide.
- 28:35We just said meet together, you know, pray together.
- 28:37And I'll never get this one to some, a mentor and a mentee,
- 28:41we're meeting together and it was really hard for them.
- 28:45I'll just say that, you know, one was from another country and
- 28:48really, really quiet and the mentor didn't know how to draw
- 28:51her out and say, you know, what questions do I ask her.
- 28:55And so I just sat there thinking, we've got to put
- 28:57something in their hands that would help guide them.
- 29:00You know, some this comes so naturally too, and they can just
- 29:02do it organically. But the majority of women out
- 29:06there just need a little something to kind of guide them
- 29:08that. And so our mentoring guides
- 29:10start with conversation starters.
- 29:13We have like 4 simple questions, two really light hearted and
- 29:16two, going deeper of how do how do I even have a conversation
- 29:20with another person? How do what are the questions to
- 29:22ask So you don't have to come up with all of that.
- 29:25And people have said that is so helpful and they have gotten to
- 29:28know each other so much more quickly because of those
- 29:31conversation starters. And then we have encouragement
- 29:34starters in there like how do I encourage someone if that
- 29:37doesn't come naturally and we just have ideas like share a
- 29:40piece of your story or share a scripture or share something you
- 29:43see in your mentee that would really bless her today.
- 29:46So just some ideas on how to encourage and then we have
- 29:50prayer starters. So we kind of walk through those
- 29:52four principles of prayer that I already shared about.
- 29:55So you know, it's a little bit of structure with a lot of
- 29:58freedom. But we have heard that women so
- 30:00appreciate those guides just to to kind of get them going, get
- 30:04them started. We kind of call it a front porch
- 30:07ministry where you're you're just getting started into this,
- 30:10so you don't know what to do and we're here to help you.
- 30:12And so you can always do Bible studies and book studies from
- 30:16there, you know. But we're here to help you.
- 30:18Just take those first steps. Oh, I love that front porch
- 30:21ministry. It's fantastic.
- 30:25It's a turnkey mentor ministry and I know we'll be talking
- 30:31afterwards to get my church involved in this because wow,
- 30:36this is amazing. I think every church needs this
- 30:39for sure, and I would love for you to end us with a take away
- 30:44of what's something our listener here can ponder on or take
- 30:47action in. I love the taking action, you
- 30:50know, I think we can just take a small step.
- 30:53We can have that attitude of here I am, Lord, use me however
- 30:56you want to and I just say there's three PS to taking
- 30:59action. First of all, pray ask God you
- 31:03know, who is it? Do I need a mentor and and or
- 31:06should I be a mentor to somebody?
- 31:07And then Lord, would you just open my eyes to someone around
- 31:11me that maybe I don't even see right now?
- 31:14Maybe it's a family member, maybe it's someone at my church,
- 31:16maybe it's a neighbor, you know, a Co worker.
- 31:19We don't know. But God has so often answered
- 31:22that prayer when I prayed it. And all of a sudden he
- 31:24illuminates someone who could just use another person in their
- 31:28life. And so pray, just go to God and
- 31:30ask him to reveal that. And then I say the word pursue.
- 31:34You know, so many of us just kind of sit back and wait for
- 31:36the other person to respond or reach out.
- 31:39And that's easier. It's easier.
- 31:41But to go after that person and pursue her and to say, do you
- 31:44want to go out for coffee? I'd love to get to know you
- 31:46better. It doesn't have to be the words.
- 31:48Will you be my mentor on that first meeting?
- 31:51But let's. I'd love to get to know you.
- 31:52I want to hear your story. You know, Jesus left the 99 to
- 31:56go after the one. And and I just say, let's care
- 31:58about the one that God shows us and pursue her and then the word
- 32:03participate, you know, so much today is about cancel culture
- 32:07and ghosting and, you know, kind of leaving people and rejecting
- 32:11people. But let's let's lean in and
- 32:13let's participate and really get to know that person.
- 32:16And even in the messy, you know, so many of our lives are really
- 32:19messy. A lot of us are going through
- 32:21hard things. But are we, are we willing to
- 32:23step in and really participate in another person's life?
- 32:27And so those are kind of my three simple words of taking
- 32:30action. I think it's doable for any of
- 32:32us. And if any of you are out there
- 32:34feeling fearful or feeling like, oh, I'm unqualified because
- 32:38that's the number one thing I hear is I'm unqualified to do
- 32:41this. I just say Jesus is the one who
- 32:44qualifies you and you are enough in him, and it's really way more
- 32:48about him than it is about you. So keep that focus on God, be
- 32:52willing, be available, and he will do amazing things through
- 32:55your life. I know it, I've seen it, I've
- 32:57experienced it. And I know he'll do the same for
- 32:59you. I love that.
- 33:01I love the three PS that is just beautiful and everything you're
- 33:06doing. Nancy, this is just incredible.
- 33:09I want to thank you so much for coming on here.
- 33:12And where can people find your book and your website and get
- 33:18involved? Maybe they're thinking, wow,
- 33:21maybe I can approach somebody at my church for this mentorship
- 33:26program or? They want to even start one in
- 33:30their home as a small group. So where can people go to for
- 33:35this information? Yes, our website is more
- 33:38mentoring.org, and so you'll find everything there from our
- 33:42mentoring guides to my book, Mentoring Made Real.
- 33:45We we will direct you to Amazon because that's where we sell

- 34:05and all that good stuff. So great thanks Nancy for your
- 34:09encouragement, your wisdom, and. I'm ready to dive into this
- 34:14organization on mentorship. I think it's so important for
- 34:18all of us to, you know, get involved and do life together,
- 34:23you know, and that's what it's all about.
- 34:26And having God be the foundation of it all.
- 34:30We can see some, like you said, chains broken, and some powerful
- 34:35shifts in our life to move forward in faith in the
- 34:39assignment and the calling that the Lord has put on US, women's
- 34:42hearts. So thank you so much for your
- 34:45encouragement to us, Nancy. Oh, thank you, Jamie.
- 34:48You've been encouragement to me too.
