- 0:00Speaker 1: To Bail to Bail is here four finger Discount.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Dude, welcome to four figure Discount where we are doing
- 0:23Speaker 2: our June mail bag. I'm gonna be answering your questions
- 0:26Speaker 2: and discussing some Simpsons news and just some what's been
- 0:28Speaker 2: happening here at four finger Discount.
- 0:30Speaker 1: I am down it and iron guy. Nice to be here.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Nice to be digging deep into that mail bag. Big
- 0:35Speaker 1: mail bag this month. It's pretty heavy. Someone say, too big,
- 0:38Speaker 1: it's a little heavy. We're got to read everything. Let's
- 0:40Speaker 1: find out.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Let's find out. Yeah, how are you doing, sir?
- 0:43Speaker 1: I'm good? A little chili.
- 0:46Speaker 2: You mentioned last week actually that you were getting your udi?
- 0:49Speaker 2: Did it arrive? And do you appreciate it?
- 0:51Speaker 1: And a you do? You wish you got it sooner?
- 0:52Speaker 1: Yes on all counts, Yes, this is correct. As I
- 0:56Speaker 1: may have said, the algorithm was listening. I was saying, yeah,
- 1:00Speaker 1: I won't did the whole thing. You do it. It's
- 1:03Speaker 1: cold in here, must be some toros in the atmosphere.
- 1:06Speaker 1: I feel much better now, Okay say the line, But yes, sir,
- 1:11Speaker 1: the algorithm was clearly this thing. Yeah, ads were coming up.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Have you considered an udie which I hadn't really, I thought,
- 1:19Speaker 1: do I want to be walking around like home with
- 1:21Speaker 1: the moo moo on, except you know, a warmer version.
- 1:23Speaker 1: But a lot of the kids have got them. You've
- 1:25Speaker 1: got plenty. I low balled Dan though. We were talking
- 1:29Speaker 1: about Udi's the other day and he said, how many
- 1:31Speaker 1: do you think this was on the podcast last week?
- 1:34Speaker 2: Well? Yeah, okay, okay, I thought you were saying that.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Let the listas know we had this conversation off air. That's
- 1:37Speaker 2: what I thought you were employing. Oh no, no, no,
- 1:39Speaker 2: but you gave me seven. I was like seven, Have
- 1:42Speaker 2: you met me?
- 1:46Speaker 1: But now I understand completely because I got home. It's
- 1:48Speaker 1: a nice, chunky package waiting for me at the front door.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Open it up. It's a dooner you can wear now.
- 1:56Speaker 1: You were asking me, did I get a patent? One? Yeah?
- 1:58Speaker 2: Did you get what pattern?
- 1:59Speaker 1: Did you get? I think? Have you seen me? I'm
- 2:01Speaker 1: a fairly dull individual.
- 2:03Speaker 2: If I could find a north face Udi, would you
- 2:05Speaker 2: want it for your birthday?
- 2:06Speaker 1: Oh? My god, I'm a monogamous kind of fella. So
- 2:12Speaker 1: I've got my one, Udi? Do you think I should
- 2:14Speaker 1: have more than one? I'm asking to have at least two.
- 2:16Speaker 1: So when one goes in the wash.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Because one goes in the wash takes a while to
- 2:19Speaker 2: dry because they're thick and sounds correct, you go have
- 2:21Speaker 2: the backup, the backup, Woodie.
- 2:22Speaker 1: It's not a bad idea. Okay, well you can find
- 2:24Speaker 1: a north face one. No, no, don't, don't spend your
- 2:26Speaker 1: money on me there. But who arrived? Oh? This feels
- 2:29Speaker 1: like it's got some heft to it. Rip it open,
- 2:32Speaker 1: no pattern, just straight, sort of elegant slate gray in
- 2:35Speaker 1: the Guy David style. Slip it on, where have you
- 2:39Speaker 1: been on my life? So it was the third best
- 2:42Speaker 1: embrace I ever had, after my loving mother, Margaret, Mary,
- 2:46Speaker 1: the Lovely Louise and now Udi?
- 2:48Speaker 2: Have you worn it yet with nothing else on underneath? Oh?
- 2:52Speaker 1: My god? Is that an option?
- 2:55Speaker 2: It's the best wake up for in the morning. You're nude,
- 2:57Speaker 2: wake your udy on. It covers you down to your knees.
- 2:59Speaker 1: You're fine.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Just sounds decadent, it's so good. It's basically walking around
- 3:02Speaker 2: nw but you're warm, m so good. Do it nude,
- 3:07Speaker 2: Woodie wearing it's the way to go during winter. It
- 3:09Speaker 2: sounds vaguely except when you're sitting on the couch. Make
- 3:12Speaker 2: sure that no one's in front of you because your
- 3:13Speaker 2: balls are just out.
- 3:15Speaker 1: But you're basic instinct to up the place. But that
- 3:17Speaker 1: has arrived slipped. Oh yeah, I'm very very happy about that.
- 3:21Speaker 1: I've taken.
- 3:22Speaker 2: I've got a backup Homer mumu Woody. I'm considering maybe
- 3:25Speaker 2: a good TV birthday.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Well it's taking the a jopp here. So yeah, that's
- 3:29Speaker 1: certainly just one good thing that's happened in the world. Yes,
- 3:33Speaker 1: that's good. How about you? What's going on? What has been.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Going on since last week. I'm just in a good
- 3:39Speaker 2: place at the moment. I'm just happy, you know. I
- 3:42Speaker 2: think I know why I'm so happy today because Nicola
- 3:44Speaker 2: looked Rootto last night for dinner. That'll always help, always helps, indeed,
- 3:47Speaker 2: and the kids were I mean, I love having the
- 3:49Speaker 2: kids here, but sometimes it's like Nicholas looking Rosotto. I'm
- 3:52Speaker 2: sitting there watching Simpsons or whatever, and the world's at peace,
- 3:55Speaker 2: the house is quiet, no cash.
- 3:57Speaker 1: It on the floor. Oh and Jewish, we should tell them.
- 4:01Speaker 2: What happened yesterday. So you were like, should I close
- 4:03Speaker 2: this door? And I was like, yes, please, And because
- 4:05Speaker 2: the cats here are so naughty unless you close that
- 4:08Speaker 2: door properly, like properly close, they're going to break in.
- 4:11Speaker 2: So guys closed the door, but it must have been
- 4:13Speaker 2: like slightly opened, a skew like I was honestly of
- 4:15Speaker 2: the like, yeah, but it must have just whatever, whatever happened.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Maybe they open the door themselves. Who knows. But guy
- 4:21Speaker 2: walks out the door, he say see you tomorrow or whatever.
- 4:23Speaker 2: And then within thirty seven it was literally within thirty seconds,
- 4:26Speaker 2: I'm in the kitchen having drinker of water. Out here
- 4:27Speaker 2: bang crash bang bang bang bang. It was like three
- 4:30Speaker 2: or four bangs, five bangs. I thought, oh shit, I
- 4:32Speaker 2: thought something'd fallen down in the garage. All pass and
- 4:35Speaker 2: I see my doors open. My heart starts racing on going,
- 4:38Speaker 2: Oh my god. Those lights, those lights that were standing there,
- 4:41Speaker 2: now I can see that they're on their side. I
- 4:43Speaker 2: can see that water bottle that was on my desk,
- 4:45Speaker 2: it's no longer on the desk where it once was.
- 4:46Speaker 2: I'm like, oh no, so walk in here. The ginger
- 4:49Speaker 2: cat's sitting on the table like I didn't do it.
- 4:52Speaker 2: And there's microphones on the floor, spillboater everywhere, hard drives
- 4:55Speaker 2: hanging off the bench, lights everywhere. One camera's leaning against
- 4:58Speaker 2: the wall, here, nothing broke. Even if it did break,
- 5:02Speaker 2: what are you gonna do?
- 5:03Speaker 1: What do you know? But here's the thing. These are
- 5:04Speaker 1: small cats. There are big cats. These are pretty much kittens.
- 5:08Speaker 1: You should still you should hit.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Honestly, I was slightly scared the other night in bed.
- 5:12Speaker 2: I mean I say scared. I wasn't scared scared, but
- 5:15Speaker 2: I was a little bit, right, a little bit nervous.
- 5:17Speaker 2: I'm laying your bed and we locked the cats out.
- 5:18Speaker 2: We got the cats out of the bedroom. Now it's
- 5:20Speaker 2: just like, no, you guys, stay out there. Your trees.
- 5:22Speaker 2: You got everything in here, as in like cat trees,
- 5:24Speaker 2: that kind of stuff to sleep right your beds. You
- 5:25Speaker 2: have plenty of beds to sleep in, all the kids beds.
- 5:29Speaker 2: And then we locked them out, and the ginger one
- 5:32Speaker 2: is just charging at the door, just with his head.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I'll do that.
- 5:36Speaker 2: This is literally like being in a horror movie, like
- 5:39Speaker 2: the Shining. They're reaching under the door, all three paws
- 5:42Speaker 2: reaching under ship, all three doors. Okay, you may have
- 5:49Speaker 2: caught this on video. We may have, just you didn't
- 5:52Speaker 2: see the bottle. But here's the thing. I think cats
- 5:56Speaker 2: might be innocent. Dan nearly knocked the water bottle over himself,
- 6:00Speaker 2: and it's if he could knock it over with his
- 6:02Speaker 2: mighty fists. They're doing it vicariously. Three because I'm talking
- 6:06Speaker 2: about them anyway, It was that it was a visual.
- 6:09Speaker 2: I look up, right, I get my torch on my phone,
- 6:11Speaker 2: look up towards the door. There's just these three paws
- 6:13Speaker 2: just under the door, and one of them is like
- 6:15Speaker 2: boom into it, and I'm like, leave me alone. But yeah,
- 6:22Speaker 2: it's so three cats based all go away.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I did this video essay recently for Oh sorry, actually
- 6:28Speaker 1: I written essay this one for our friends and Umbrella Entertainment.
- 6:31Speaker 1: They are our friends, they are indeed our friends about well,
- 6:35Speaker 1: it's for a movie called Black Sheep, which is a
- 6:37Speaker 1: horror movie about killer sheep. Yeah, so I wrote this
- 6:39Speaker 1: essay about unusual animal attack movie because you know, we're
- 6:42Speaker 1: all used to sharks and grizzlies and you know, incredibly
- 6:46Speaker 1: sized snakes and all this kind of business. But yeah,
- 6:49Speaker 1: for a while, there's a rash of horror movies that
- 6:51Speaker 1: had like cats in them, and you think, but like
- 6:53Speaker 1: the tweet says, cats are perpetually pissed off because their
- 6:57Speaker 1: nature's perfect killing machine. But they weighed eight pounds and
- 6:59Speaker 1: we can keep picking them up and kissing them. So
- 7:03Speaker 1: it's like, how threatening can cats be? Even though if
- 7:06Speaker 1: you've been scratched by cat's like, oh god, damn man.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I remember once the cat was scared by
- 7:09Speaker 2: the vacuum went to touch it and she I had
- 7:11Speaker 2: like twelve cuts in my hands within that space of
- 7:13Speaker 2: five seconds.
- 7:14Speaker 1: It was just it was just done. Oh yeah, it's
- 7:16Speaker 1: like fighting wolverine.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Yeah, she was just gone and it was just blood
- 7:18Speaker 2: everywhere I was, my hand.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Yeah, so yeah, I was Actually I was surprisingly able
- 7:23Speaker 1: to devote a large section of the piece to Yeah,
- 7:25Speaker 1: don't mess with cats. They are actual horror movie villains.
- 7:28Speaker 1: And now you've discovered this.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Yes, but so this month here and forthing a Disco,
- 7:33Speaker 2: what have we covered? We have covered any teeny mi mo.
- 7:35Speaker 2: We did a classic review of Kate Krusty, as voted
- 7:37Speaker 2: by the patrons, and we also reviewed The Good, the Sad,
- 7:40Speaker 2: and the Drugly both those season twenty episodes. I'm gonna
- 7:44Speaker 2: say good episodes on season twenty levels seasons.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Oh absolutely, yeah. I mean we were I think quite surprised,
- 7:50Speaker 1: won't we. I mean we're not we were expecting. Oh no,
- 7:53Speaker 1: we're in the weeds now. Yeah, but these were solid
- 7:57Speaker 1: on a structural levels, like oh yeah, this is yeah,
- 8:01Speaker 1: got a good idea and executed pretty well. But more
- 8:04Speaker 1: than that, it had a lot of gags. And it's like,
- 8:07Speaker 1: if you take this out of a season twenty and
- 8:08Speaker 1: you're excerted it like a season eight, yeah, you wouldn't
- 8:12Speaker 1: exactly be out of place.
- 8:13Speaker 2: I think we're talking about the John Adams John Adams, Yeah,
- 8:16Speaker 2: the mini series John Adams about the He wasn't a president,
- 8:19Speaker 2: was he.
- 8:19Speaker 1: I think he was one of the founding farst.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, yeah, me Toomas Jeff Jefferson. He was hanging
- 8:25Speaker 2: with those guys. But yeah, but those gigs worked. I
- 8:28Speaker 2: think overall, so far of season twenty, I don't think
- 8:30Speaker 2: we've hit an era where there's been say, three or
- 8:33Speaker 2: four really shitty episodes in a row.
- 8:35Speaker 1: No, I don't think we've hit that many rough patches.
- 8:38Speaker 1: And maybe we're just being extreme for the ptimistic. Yeah,
- 8:41Speaker 1: maybe we've got our rose colored glasses on.
- 8:43Speaker 2: But I mean, if you're going to compare them to
- 8:45Speaker 2: the originals, like the Golden Era, yes they're not going
- 8:47Speaker 2: to be as good, but you've got to compare them
- 8:48Speaker 2: for the ear in which they will release that it's correct.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, And you know, we're not especially negative people
- 8:54Speaker 1: here at the Full Finger disc and Network. We're kind
- 8:57Speaker 1: of optimists. We like to err on the side of
- 8:59Speaker 1: posital have to be you have to be oh, yes,
- 9:02Speaker 1: that's correct. So but no, I think I think we
- 9:05Speaker 1: have both been pretty pleased, certainly the quality of any
- 9:09Speaker 1: teeny mamo and yeah, the good the sound and the
- 9:12Speaker 1: drug ly. Yeah, they had their ifty parts and they
- 9:15Speaker 1: had their parts. Just come to expect that.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Now season twenty, I think, I think what I'm watching
- 9:19Speaker 2: these episodes Now, I go in with we always have
- 9:22Speaker 2: no expectations, but I just go in just expecting it
- 9:25Speaker 2: to not be the best and just try and find
- 9:27Speaker 2: some sort of positivity. By the end of it, I'm like,
- 9:29Speaker 2: it wasn't so bad.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Was it? No, it's interesting, We're going to be We
- 9:34Speaker 1: are a lot of good questions in the mailbag. Yeah,
- 9:37Speaker 1: and there's one of them that sort of semi addresses this.
- 9:40Speaker 1: I'll talk about it when we get to that. But
- 9:43Speaker 1: just to reiterate, season twenty, not so bad, so bad
- 9:46Speaker 1: so far.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Yeah, but next month from season twenty, we shall be
- 9:48Speaker 2: reviewing Father nos worst and Waverley Hills nine oh two.
- 9:52Speaker 2: One'm sure you're a fan.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Of that art. Oh. Absolutely, it's already a five star
- 9:56Speaker 1: classic based on that time alone.
- 9:59Speaker 2: And the the poll is now up in the Patreon group,
- 10:01Speaker 2: so if you want to be a part of the pole,
- 10:02Speaker 2: you're gonna be supporting us on Patreon. And the vote
- 10:05Speaker 2: is the themous party for the classic review this month.
- 10:07Speaker 2: And we've gone with the Boy who Knew Too Much
- 10:09Speaker 2: because Freddie Quimby is celebrating his party there with that chowder.
- 10:12Speaker 2: And we have Old Money as well because Grandpa missus
- 10:14Speaker 2: Bee's birthday.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Indeed, now then I were talking about this and I
- 10:18Speaker 1: think he slapped Old Money in there as a year. Yeah,
- 10:21Speaker 1: it's a bit of a treat to yours, truly, because
- 10:23Speaker 1: it is an episode that I really really love. It
- 10:25Speaker 1: closes out one of my favorite lines or favorite sentiments. Absolutely.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Having said that, listeners, if you haven't voted in the
- 10:32Speaker 1: pole yet, do me a favor and the quende, because look,
- 10:37Speaker 1: it'd be too sad otherwise if we were talking about
- 10:38Speaker 1: Old Money, I would just end up like it's so
- 10:41Speaker 1: good and no one wants to hear half an hour
- 10:43Speaker 1: to forty five minutes of just a middle aged man going,
- 10:46Speaker 1: we want to hear way just coming for resolved, think
- 10:49Speaker 1: that he's on me please the pun chast bes but
- 10:54Speaker 1: and yeah, of course you just want to hear Daniel
- 10:56Speaker 1: and I'm just saying shower.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Yes, and that's also good them yeah yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.
- 11:01Speaker 1: And the classes that I'm sort of wearing right now.
- 11:03Speaker 1: What is it? The free reallly squash of the kid. Oh,
- 11:06Speaker 1: what a mess. We'll talk about all this stuff when
- 11:11Speaker 1: we hope you hopefully talk about the Boy who Knew
- 11:13Speaker 1: too much.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Yeah, And on Patreon we shall be doing exclusive well
- 11:16Speaker 2: speaking of the Hills returning next month like the actual
- 11:18Speaker 2: King of the Hills returney, so speaking, the Hill shall
- 11:19Speaker 2: be returning on Patreon next month as well.

- 12:40Speaker 2: for being supporters of the fourth Finger discount family on Patreon.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Lit'sten into some mail bag questions Shallby I couldn't really
- 12:45Speaker 2: find much Simpson's news. There were some interviews with like
- 12:47Speaker 2: Matt sal when they went to some sort of convention
- 12:49Speaker 2: and whatnot. They're talking about how it's gonna be seventeen
- 12:52Speaker 2: episodes each season now are going forward. I think we're
- 12:54Speaker 2: pretty much touched on that last month and things like that.
- 12:56Speaker 2: So we'll just get into some mailbag questions. This one
- 12:58Speaker 2: he comes from Brandon Twitch. He says, let's say the
- 13:00Speaker 2: Simpsons do an episode all about podcasting, which I already have.
- 13:04Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure it's called podcast news.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Well, it sounds like that would be a bad podcast.
- 13:09Speaker 2: And you and Guy are brought on for a cameo role.
- 13:12Speaker 2: What would you want your roles to be? Well, I
- 13:14Speaker 2: don't think we'd play fictional characters. Do you think do
- 13:17Speaker 2: you think we'd play ourselves? I think we should, but
- 13:19Speaker 2: I think it'd be a bit of a heel turn.
- 13:22Speaker 2: And it's revealed that I'm actually like a really nasty,
- 13:26Speaker 2: bad boss who's always sort of like cracking the whip
- 13:28Speaker 2: on you, even though it appears that one of us
- 13:30Speaker 2: doesn't actually exist, it's actually an AI bot.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Well that's a good point. Yeah, but how do you know.
- 13:34Speaker 1: I'm not. I've been watching too many of those videos
- 13:39Speaker 1: and listen to too many of those podcasts with the
- 13:41Speaker 1: whole prompt theory nonsense and everything like that. We're just
- 13:43Speaker 1: laboring under this mass illusion the moment brains are getting rewired.
- 13:46Speaker 1: It's very weird, very weird time to be alive. But yeah,
- 13:50Speaker 1: I think it'd be good if I.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Yes, well, let's look at podcast news and see what
- 13:54Speaker 2: the story was. Don I'm pretty sure I've saw the
- 13:56Speaker 2: title podcast News. I haven't watched it yet. You think
- 13:57Speaker 2: I would have, wouldn't You would think so, But you
- 13:59Speaker 2: gotta on your plate Podcast News, Yes not. Season thirty two,
- 14:02Speaker 2: Episode six, Margin Lisa get addicted to True Crime podcast.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Grandpa's accused of a crime camp. Brockman questions his career.
- 14:10Speaker 2: So margin Lesa get did it to true crime podcast?
- 14:12Speaker 2: Because everyone's added the True crime podcast?
- 14:14Speaker 1: Yeah, thirty two, So, oh my goodness, how long there
- 14:16Speaker 1: were that? That was?
- 14:17Speaker 2: That's four seasons ago, four years ago. Now, isn't that
- 14:19Speaker 2: in the same season thirty two? You think it's now? No,
- 14:21Speaker 2: it's four years ago.
- 14:23Speaker 1: What. Yeah, I'm trying to remember. Do you remember or
- 14:27Speaker 1: have you heard of the podcast Cereal?
- 14:29Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 14:30Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean remember that was huge, and that's
- 14:33Speaker 1: sort of I don't think it kicked off the true
- 14:34Speaker 1: crime podcast thing, but it really was kind of an
- 14:36Speaker 1: apex for it when it was like, hey, everyone's like me, Hey,
- 14:40Speaker 1: have you heard about Cereal? Yeah? Loop, So actually I
- 14:51Speaker 1: think Cereal's probably before that, but yeah, since it's sort
- 14:55Speaker 1: of maybe a little bit late to.
- 14:56Speaker 2: That way without just capitalizing on the fact that everyone
- 14:58Speaker 2: listened to True crime pot.
- 15:01Speaker 1: But yeah, it sounds nice that that maybe Grandpa's folded
- 15:03Speaker 1: into that. And of course Ken Brockton like, okay, that's
- 15:07Speaker 1: just then I'm out of a job.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Us feel like Forming a discount in the Simpsons universe
- 15:10Speaker 2: could actually be a crime podcast because it's about stealing.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Because we're just folling a discount's about stealing things. Well,
- 15:16Speaker 2: that's great, that's what it's named for. So it could
- 15:18Speaker 2: literally be a true crime podcast. Forming a discount in
- 15:23Speaker 2: the Simpsons universe.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Okay, so we've rock into town and we're investigating the
- 15:27Speaker 1: crime nature of Springfield. Yeah, okay, they not bad either.
- 15:30Speaker 1: That or we replace Bill and Marty or you know
- 15:33Speaker 1: it's a steel cage in the radio.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Yeah, like radio has got a future.
- 15:38Speaker 1: This is growth industry.
- 15:41Speaker 2: But thank you for the question of Brandon. By the way, guys,
- 15:43Speaker 2: if you do want to get in touch for next
- 15:45Speaker 2: month's mail bag, it's just mail bag at fourfing a
- 15:47Speaker 2: discount dot com dot au. Next one hears from Mark Mason.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Mark says, should the Simpsons have ended at its peak,
- 15:54Speaker 2: say around season ten? And do you think the show's
- 15:57Speaker 2: legacy would be any different if it did? Do you
- 15:59Speaker 2: think the Simpsons if it ended in season at season ten,
- 16:02Speaker 2: like nineteen ninety eight, would we look back more fondly
- 16:06Speaker 2: on the show? Would people widespread look back on the
- 16:08Speaker 2: show more finally? Because it feels like now the consensus
- 16:10Speaker 2: is just let it die. Just let it die, right.
- 16:14Speaker 2: I get that that can be your opinion. I don't
- 16:16Speaker 2: agree with that because your opinion, that's fine. Would the
- 16:18Speaker 2: show's legacy be different? Let's compare it to Seinfeld. If
- 16:21Speaker 2: Seinfeld won't say five more seasons, do you think people
- 16:23Speaker 2: will look back on Siinefeld as funny as they do?
- 16:25Speaker 2: I think Seinfeld was a genius to get out when
- 16:27Speaker 2: they're on top. It's a shame we didn't get more Seinfeld,
- 16:30Speaker 2: but it was for the right reasons.
- 16:32Speaker 1: I think. So. Yeah, I mean, I think Jerry is
- 16:34Speaker 1: definitely on the record as saying, yeah, we'd rather go
- 16:37Speaker 1: out on top. We'd rather go out with some juice
- 16:39Speaker 1: in the tank number one show than just drain it dry,
- 16:42Speaker 1: you know, maybe run a little low on inspiration or whatever.
- 16:47Speaker 1: And the thing of it is, you know, then you
- 16:49Speaker 1: can take that cachet and cloud that you've got going
- 16:54Speaker 1: out on top of the champ and start doing other things.
- 16:57Speaker 1: If you're Jerry, well, you know, you do what you do.
- 16:59Speaker 1: You want, movie, you do me, movie, all that Unfrosted movie,
- 17:06Speaker 1: which I still have yet to watch.
- 17:07Speaker 2: I'm watching it, neither of Oh yeah, but that's just
- 17:10Speaker 2: the nature of things. I have so many films, right,
- 17:12Speaker 2: I'm gonna think I enjoy that, I'll watch it, and
- 17:14Speaker 2: I never do. Yeah, it just keeps it. They you're
- 17:16Speaker 2: throwing new stuff at us, that's true. Yeah, but he
- 17:18Speaker 2: has the driving driving around this porsch with like Eddie
- 17:20Speaker 2: Murphy and other comedians and things like that.
- 17:23Speaker 1: But also you get curb. Yes, yeah, so here's what
- 17:27Speaker 1: I was thinking. This is what I was talking about
- 17:29Speaker 1: earlier when talking about the end of the world, the
- 17:33Speaker 1: end of the world and all that kind of stuff.
- 17:34Speaker 1: I want to do. If we'd say it ended at
- 17:38Speaker 1: season ten, the Simpsons that ended at season ten, we
- 17:41Speaker 1: would probably be picking knits about the episodes that already exists,
- 17:44Speaker 1: because episodes we now consider untouchable. It's like, Okay, well,
- 17:49Speaker 1: this is all we've got to work with. This is
- 17:50Speaker 1: all we've got to compare it to. Within its own
- 17:53Speaker 1: little ecosystem, We're probably like, oh, you know what, everyone says,
- 17:56Speaker 1: that's really funny. I'm not sure if it is, and
- 17:58Speaker 1: then you it doesn't work the these reasons, I think
- 18:02Speaker 1: it will still be quite well regarded. But I think you'd
- 18:05Speaker 1: probably be looking at those ten episodes and you'd be
- 18:07Speaker 1: concentrating more on them as opposed to like, this season
- 18:11Speaker 1: of episode nine is fantastic, especially compared to that episode
- 18:14Speaker 1: from season twenty nine.
- 18:16Speaker 2: So I think the Simpsons would as great as The
- 18:19Speaker 2: Simpsons is, as pivotal on and as huge as The
- 18:22Speaker 2: Simpsons was in the nineties. I'm going to throw it
- 18:24Speaker 2: out there and say if The Simpsons ended up the
- 18:25Speaker 2: season ten, it would be almost forgotten in twenty twenty five,
- 18:29Speaker 2: it would be that show that your parents watched when
- 18:31Speaker 2: they were kids to kids to kids these days, because
- 18:34Speaker 2: the Simpsons has gone on right our era of the show,
- 18:38Speaker 2: it's almost like the Star Wars trilogies. Right, our ear
- 18:41Speaker 2: of the show was the nineties when we were growing up.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Kids who were born in the late late nineties or
- 18:46Speaker 2: early two thousands, their era is the team year.
- 18:48Speaker 1: That's correct.
- 18:48Speaker 2: They grew up on those ones. They like those ones.
- 18:50Speaker 2: I've seen it in threads on Facebook. I know these
- 18:53Speaker 2: are my favorite. These the ones I watched when I
- 18:54Speaker 2: was a kid. There are kids who were born during
- 18:56Speaker 2: the twenties seasons. That's their episodes. Sure, the show has
- 19:00Speaker 2: evolved over time, and that's very, very important. But because
- 19:04Speaker 2: it's evolved, it's not the show that we grew up
- 19:06Speaker 2: with anymore, which means, oh, it's not as good anymore.
- 19:08Speaker 2: That's not the mentality, don't They've evolved with the times.
- 19:11Speaker 2: So I now put the Simpsons off of the kids
- 19:14Speaker 2: they genuinely want to watch the new episodes. Of course,
- 19:16Speaker 2: a lot of it comes down probably the way it
- 19:17Speaker 2: looks as well, because the old ones look hand drawn
- 19:19Speaker 2: and whatnot. But I just think that the modern episodes
- 19:23Speaker 2: are more tailored humor wise for kids of today. They
- 19:26Speaker 2: wash the old ones, and I don't know whether the
- 19:28Speaker 2: attention spans are different or anything, but they get that,
- 19:30Speaker 2: they get the references where the references in the more
- 19:33Speaker 2: modern episodes of The Simpsons are more up to date
- 19:36Speaker 2: at least anyway. They wash the old ones and the
- 19:38Speaker 2: kids they're like, oh, yeah, it's funny because it's just
- 19:40Speaker 2: wacky cartoons, but they don't quite get it. They watched
- 19:43Speaker 2: the new episodes and they seem to understand the stories more.
- 19:45Speaker 2: So I think it was It's great that The Simpsons
- 19:47Speaker 2: has gone on because it means that kids now can
- 19:51Speaker 2: enjoy and they've got this huge back catalog to go
- 19:53Speaker 2: and back and enjoy as well. Because if I said
- 19:55Speaker 2: to the kid, the kids now only watch this old show,
- 19:58Speaker 2: it would just be seen as this old show because
- 19:59Speaker 2: they can see modern version of it is while they
- 20:01Speaker 2: can go, oh, it's not just this old show. It
- 20:03Speaker 2: was once older, but it's got newer. That makes any sense?
- 20:06Speaker 1: Oh yeah, absolutely. How many times I've quoted that piece
- 20:10Speaker 1: from the Onion, you know, the satirical newspaper, where it's yeah,
- 20:13Speaker 1: basically parents, raise a child on pop culture that makes
- 20:16Speaker 1: child absolutely out of touch with the modern world.
- 20:19Speaker 2: That's what happens.
- 20:19Speaker 1: To Listen, talking heads listen to the sex pistles, all
- 20:22Speaker 1: the kinds up. It's great, it's great, it's great, and
- 20:24Speaker 1: they'll be like, yeah, but I've got stuff that my
- 20:27Speaker 1: generation listens to right now. Speaks too much. Yeah yeah,
- 20:31Speaker 1: so yeah, means by means trying to inform them. Both
- 20:36Speaker 1: have both, of course, but no, the Star Wars analogy
- 20:39Speaker 1: is very, very correct. You've got to sort of evolve
- 20:42Speaker 1: with the times. And even if the purists who were
- 20:44Speaker 1: there for like, oh, we were there for Ground zero, man,
- 20:46Speaker 1: we were there with the premiere episode of The Simpsons
- 20:48Speaker 1: or the release in seventy seven of the original Star Wars.
- 20:52Speaker 1: That's nice, that's great, that's fantastic. You know, buildings, things
- 20:56Speaker 1: are built on foundations, but you know there's also new levels,
- 20:59Speaker 1: new story.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Be thankful that you were there for that and you've
- 21:01Speaker 2: got that sort of that nostalgia for that era. Right,
- 21:05Speaker 2: But don't say that I can't enjoy the modern ear
- 21:07Speaker 2: because you don't.
- 21:08Speaker 1: That's correct, And as we always say about certain things,
- 21:11Speaker 1: if you don't like it, don't watch it. Don't watch it. Yeah, yeah,
- 21:14Speaker 1: but don't deprive anyone else from it from watching it.
- 21:17Speaker 1: And yeah, maybe don't even be like the kind of
- 21:21Speaker 1: goose who says, oh this sucks. I mean, even if
- 21:24Speaker 1: you think it does. But maybe just generally just hey,
- 21:28Speaker 1: if you like this, you might also like that. That
- 21:30Speaker 1: has been one of the guiding principles that I've always
- 21:32Speaker 1: had in being a critic, being a reviewer, being a
- 21:34Speaker 1: being a writer. If you like this, you might also
- 21:38Speaker 1: enjoy this. Yeah, that's a I think that's a great
- 21:41Speaker 1: way to be.
- 21:41Speaker 2: And so I just don't think kids would enjoy the
- 21:44Speaker 2: Simpsons as much if it was just this old hand
- 21:46Speaker 2: drawn cartoon because they can see that it's more modern now.
- 21:49Speaker 2: They're more willing to go back to the old ones
- 21:51Speaker 2: as well.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Oh very much. So. Yeah, and I think you're going
- 21:53Speaker 1: to if that was the case of there was only
- 21:55Speaker 1: ten seasons, you're going to get a very select fan
- 21:58Speaker 1: base unless you were there. Yeah, and I'm talking about
- 22:01Speaker 1: sort of current generation.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, unless their parents are enforcing it on them,
- 22:06Speaker 2: who would be like.
- 22:07Speaker 1: You know, what's good old stuff? You know, old things
- 22:09Speaker 1: were better back then. And I'm not sure how many
- 22:12Speaker 1: kids think that way. How many young people think that way.
- 22:14Speaker 1: But you get a little not older, but say late teens,
- 22:19Speaker 1: early twenties, and you're like, maybe I should check out
- 22:22Speaker 1: the influences and the inspirations of the stuff that I
- 22:25Speaker 1: like now, because you know it might it might speak
- 22:27Speaker 1: to me in a different way.

- 22:59Speaker 2: being a parents really helped me learn and understand that
- 23:02Speaker 2: modern stuff is okay. There is some stuff that's crap, right,
- 23:07Speaker 2: But I see the kids, right, and there is this
- 23:08Speaker 2: song the like it's like apt it's called that.
- 23:11Speaker 1: It's like I took me.
- 23:14Speaker 2: They kept singing it to me, and I'm like, I
- 23:16Speaker 2: don't know what that's called, Like it's called ata and
- 23:18Speaker 2: I'm like, I'm looking for it.
- 23:19Speaker 1: I can't find it's apt and the I'm sorry, I
- 23:23Speaker 1: can't remember that it's Lisa or.
- 23:25Speaker 2: I eventually found and I'm watching some I'm like, this
- 23:29Speaker 2: is utter rotby, you know what. All these kids love it,
- 23:32Speaker 2: and just because I don't enjoy it doesn't mean it's
- 23:34Speaker 2: not good. It's what these kids like. I'm sure I
- 23:36Speaker 2: listened to music when I was a kid that my
- 23:38Speaker 2: parents thought was absolute garbage. But to me, it's like
- 23:40Speaker 2: the greatest thing ever. Oh yeah, it's just the circle
- 23:43Speaker 2: of life, mate, it really is. And I'm learning to
- 23:46Speaker 2: just go, don't be grumpy old Dando because it's not
- 23:49Speaker 2: nineteen ninety seven music anymore, you know, just it's okay.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Oh yeah, absolutely. One of the lawyss is I think
- 23:57Speaker 1: I think Audrey was saying, we heard that in the
- 23:59Speaker 1: background somewhere upper tap up.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like, ah, but holy but what the hell
- 24:06Speaker 2: are you saying? Or you saying appetite? What are you saying?
- 24:09Speaker 1: Yeah? Dirty looks like it's catchy as hell. It really is,
- 24:12Speaker 1: Oh yeah it is, yeah, but it almost feels like
- 24:14Speaker 1: and it feels weird to say this, because I'm sure
- 24:16Speaker 1: all pop songs songs are designed this way, but it's like,
- 24:18Speaker 1: oh my god, this is so catchy. I can't stop
- 24:19Speaker 1: listening to it, even if I really I can't hate it.
- 24:22Speaker 1: But at the same time, I can't stop listening to
- 24:24Speaker 1: it because yeah, I had it in my head the
- 24:26Speaker 1: other day as well, and I'm like, I gotta look
- 24:28Speaker 1: this up, but I don't know exactly what it is either.
- 24:30Speaker 1: It was like and finally found it, and then I
- 24:33Speaker 1: listened to it like three times in a row. It's like,
- 24:36Speaker 1: I know I don't like this, but I can't stop
- 24:39Speaker 1: listening to it. Why is that the case?
- 24:41Speaker 2: Where's that There's that song that's like please stay, I
- 24:44Speaker 2: want you, I need you, Oh god damn.
- 24:47Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
- 24:48Speaker 2: I heard that and I was like, wow, I'm like,
- 24:50Speaker 2: is this catchy? But whatever, it's just a it's just
- 24:52Speaker 2: a new song or whatever. And then they kids had
- 24:55Speaker 2: this talent show on Monday at the school assembly and
- 24:57Speaker 2: one of these kids sang that song, and the entire
- 25:00Speaker 2: in school or every kid starts singing this song along
- 25:02Speaker 2: with this girl, and I was like, there you go, music.
- 25:05Speaker 1: I believe the song You're referring to is Beautiful Things
- 25:07Speaker 1: by Benson Boone.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Yeah, and I'm listening. I'm like, essentially, it's a good song.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Actually I actually like it now, that one. I don't
- 25:13Speaker 1: like seeing.
- 25:15Speaker 2: All the kids singing it together. I was like, Ah,
- 25:17Speaker 2: that's what he's exposed to do.
- 25:19Speaker 1: But here's the thing, Yeah, there is probably a variation
- 25:22Speaker 1: on that that's not that different from Beautiful Things that
- 25:25Speaker 1: I was listening to back when I was a teenager
- 25:29Speaker 1: or in my twenties or whatever. And who and Benson
- 25:32Speaker 1: Moon probably listened to something like that and was inspired
- 25:35Speaker 1: by it. And I'm like, yeah, but I like my version.
- 25:36Speaker 1: I don't like your version. And because that his version
- 25:39Speaker 1: is not for.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Me, I'm just wasn't. Yeah, I'm learning to like new
- 25:43Speaker 2: music through the kids, you know, because they get into
- 25:45Speaker 2: the age now where that they're starting to discover pop music.
- 25:48Speaker 2: It's not just they listen to what I put on
- 25:49Speaker 2: the radio. I know, we hear songs at school when
- 25:52Speaker 2: you put this one on please, or they go to
- 25:54Speaker 2: a friend's house and they put the music on or whatever.
- 25:55Speaker 2: So yeah, just getting old and realizing that new music
- 25:58Speaker 2: ain't so bad.
- 26:00Speaker 1: It's a good lesson.
- 26:01Speaker 2: But thank you for the question mark, that was a
- 26:03Speaker 2: good question.
- 26:03Speaker 1: That was a good question. Howd us talking about.
- 26:05Speaker 2: Yeah, Samantha Leamy says, what are the most hated Simpsons episodes?
- 26:09Speaker 2: I keep reading that the Lady Gaga episode is terrible,
- 26:12Speaker 2: so I've never bothered to watch it. Do you have
- 26:14Speaker 2: any others that come to mind? So I know to
- 26:16Speaker 2: avoid them. It's funny because I saw Yardley Smith recently
- 26:18Speaker 2: shared a clip of her singing with Lady Gaga on Twitter.
- 26:22Speaker 2: I've still get to watch the episode. I think we
- 26:23Speaker 2: should do it as an exclusive from Patreona because I
- 26:26Speaker 2: always hear it like that's the worst of the worst.
- 26:28Speaker 2: I'm like, is it?
- 26:30Speaker 1: Though?
- 26:30Speaker 2: I think it just came at a time when people
- 26:32Speaker 2: didn't like Lady Gaga. It was this she'd been was
- 26:36Speaker 2: just in everything, right. I think everyone's come to appreciate
- 26:39Speaker 2: Lady Gaga for It's like me with modern music. I'm
- 26:41Speaker 2: just like, it was actually a really good performer, Lady Gaga.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Oh goodness. It takes a little while, and yeah, there's
- 26:49Speaker 1: probably some kind of formula or progression that we could
- 26:52Speaker 1: draw up. I imagine it happens pretty similarly in a
- 26:55Speaker 1: lot of ways. But it's like, oh, this person's being
- 26:58Speaker 1: forced on me all the time. I'm here for Brina Carpenter. Yeah,
- 27:03Speaker 1: I'm hearing nothing but their music, or I'm seeing nothing
- 27:06Speaker 1: but them in my algorithm or on magazine covers. Remember
- 27:10Speaker 1: magazines they had covered they were good too. Oh yeah, no, great,
- 27:18Speaker 1: They're all I'm saying. I'm getting overexposed and I don't
- 27:20Speaker 1: like it. And then maybe the yeah, the switch will flip,
- 27:24Speaker 1: just the script will flip just a little bit, and
- 27:26Speaker 1: it's like, as you said, you know, Ganga actually is
- 27:28Speaker 1: pretty good. Yeah, I don't know when I'm specifically she's amazing.
- 27:37Speaker 1: You know when I was a pretty good look pretty good.
- 27:41Speaker 1: I think it was around the time of bad Romance. Look,
- 27:44Speaker 1: you know what, actual banger got a bit of time
- 27:47Speaker 1: for Lady Gaga. But initially you think, oh, she's just
- 27:50Speaker 1: ripping off Madonna.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Well, and then I felt she was just trying to
- 27:53Speaker 2: be weird for se weird. That's what I felt like
- 27:55Speaker 2: when I was a teenager. Oh sure, I'm like, you're
- 27:57Speaker 2: just you're wearing dress with meat to a fucking to
- 28:01Speaker 2: the Oscar nuvel whatever.
- 28:02Speaker 1: And yeah, not we've come full circle. But it's like, okay,
- 28:05Speaker 1: it's done for the next iteration of that, and it's
- 28:07Speaker 1: probably Chapel Rowan or something like that. Oh, we were
- 28:10Speaker 1: just ripping off those two words but together. I have
- 28:12Speaker 1: no idea what you just said. No worry, Holly's going
- 28:16Speaker 1: to start listening to her in any minute now. And you're, oh, okay,
- 28:19Speaker 1: then I don't mind Chapel row On either. But yeah,
- 28:24Speaker 1: she's the latest version of that kind of thing.
- 28:27Speaker 2: But I just think that episode in particularly came out
- 28:29Speaker 2: of time, and I think people might have been sick
- 28:30Speaker 2: of her. Oh, so they instantly hated it, And I
- 28:33Speaker 2: wonder if you go back and actually watch it, I'm
- 28:35Speaker 2: just in treat. Is it a bad episode or you
- 28:36Speaker 2: just didn't like Leady?
- 28:37Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, And because everyone.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Goes the Elon Musk episode is terrible one too. Is
- 28:41Speaker 2: it a bad episode or you just don't want is
- 28:43Speaker 2: in it?
- 28:45Speaker 1: That's the thing. I mean, You've got this idea in
- 28:49Speaker 1: your mind of like, well, Lisa's like this, you know,
- 28:52Speaker 1: and she likes these kind of things, and she stands
- 28:54Speaker 1: for these kinds of things, and for her to stand
- 28:56Speaker 1: for Elon Musk, who Yeah, for a while, they were
- 28:59Speaker 1: thinking this conception was different. The perception was defe like, yeah, look,
- 29:03Speaker 1: he's a weirdo, but he's kind of, you know, an
- 29:06Speaker 1: eccentric genius, and we like, our genius is to be
- 29:08Speaker 1: a little bit eccentric. He's our weimy. He's a weirdo,
- 29:12Speaker 1: but he's our wedder. And now we realize, oh, you know,
- 29:16Speaker 1: he gets more and more popular, more and more a
- 29:18Speaker 1: high profile. Oh that's a bit weird. Ah you're aligning
- 29:22Speaker 1: and oh you kind of cringe, et cetera, et cetera.
- 29:24Speaker 1: You know, everything from you're disturbingly and discussingly cringe to oh,
- 29:29Speaker 1: you are helped bringing about the downfall of Western civilization. Yeah,
- 29:32Speaker 1: it's just how does this relate to the episode of
- 29:36Speaker 1: The Simpsons that he was a guest star on. How
- 29:38Speaker 1: does that relate to the episode of Saturday Night Live
- 29:40Speaker 1: where he was the guest host. Maybe let's do it
- 29:44Speaker 1: in July.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Let's review the Gargo episodes so we can come back
- 29:46Speaker 2: to the mail back and give our thoughts. Well, we're
- 29:47Speaker 2: gonna review for the Patreon, but we'll give our little
- 29:49Speaker 2: teas thoughts on the on the mailbank next month.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Fine, I'm happy.
- 29:53Speaker 2: I'm genuinely intrigued to see whether it's a bad episode
- 29:56Speaker 2: or night.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Yeah. Now, I'm wondering if these most hated episodes they
- 29:59Speaker 1: tend to be less about, Oh that episode doesn't work
- 30:03Speaker 1: because that story is no good, or you're making home
- 30:06Speaker 1: even more egregiously dumb ass than he has been in
- 30:10Speaker 1: previous or insensitive or whatever. Or is it like they've
- 30:16Speaker 1: cashed in or they've you know, they've sold out by
- 30:18Speaker 1: getting so and so as a guest star, the popular
- 30:20Speaker 1: star of the day, like they had the I'm not
- 30:23Speaker 1: sure how well regarded or her well liked. The short
- 30:27Speaker 1: when Billy met Lisa is the one with Billie Eilish.
- 30:30Speaker 2: Either short, yeah, yeah, well, this is the thing we
- 30:32Speaker 2: always again with kids, kids like the short kid's got
- 30:35Speaker 2: short attentionspans.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Yeah, we all do these days, but kids especially.
- 30:37Speaker 2: That someone literally said to me. He says, they asked
- 30:39Speaker 2: for these shorts because that's a good way of introducing
- 30:42Speaker 2: kids to the show, and they work. And I'm like,
- 30:43Speaker 2: you know what, now that you've explained that, it actually
- 30:45Speaker 2: makes perfect sense. Sure, I watched it. I watched those
- 30:48Speaker 2: shorts and I'm just like, there is nothing here. This
- 30:51Speaker 2: is just the Simpsons are on the screen for a
- 30:54Speaker 2: few minutes.
- 30:54Speaker 1: That's all it is.
- 30:55Speaker 2: There's no substance really at all, and the kids watch
- 30:57Speaker 2: it and they're like, put it on again. I'm like
- 31:00Speaker 2: that nothing happened, and I put it on again. Okay,
- 31:03Speaker 2: But I'm like, you know what, I don't mind because
- 31:05Speaker 2: the kids now like the Simpsons because of the short
- 31:07Speaker 2: Oh sure, but the ones people seem to hate. They
- 31:09Speaker 2: always go back to that ninety show, which we really enjoyed.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Remember that ninety show.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's people say that's the episode they turned
- 31:15Speaker 2: off the Simpsons, and I go really, yeah, Now, maybe
- 31:18Speaker 2: in the time it felt annoyed, but you go back
- 31:22Speaker 2: fifteen years ago, now, when did it come out, like
- 31:24Speaker 2: two thousand and three or five or whatever.
- 31:26Speaker 1: I enjoyed it. Oh yeah, But what do I always say?
- 31:28Speaker 1: I I always quote Bell from Raiders at the Lost
- 31:31Speaker 1: Ark when he said, you look look at this. Watch
- 31:33Speaker 1: what if a ten bucks from that go on the street.
- 31:35Speaker 1: I'm going to take it out of the desert, bury
- 31:36Speaker 1: it for a thousand years. You'll dig it up and
- 31:38Speaker 1: it's like, oh my god, this is priceless. Ten years
- 31:42Speaker 1: we'll look back at that nineties episode and going, guess what,
- 31:45Speaker 1: actually not that bad? Whether that's you know, the influence
- 31:49Speaker 1: of nostalgia. Maybe we just didn't appreciate what we had
- 31:51Speaker 1: at the time.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Who knows, but I will say, Samantha, please avoid Codependence Day.
- 31:57Speaker 1: Yeah, and I'm watch her since far. I love that.
- 32:01Speaker 2: But yeah, Codependants stay. Yeah, I'm a drink driving. Put
- 32:05Speaker 2: March behind the wheel and Bailey on her No, great,
- 32:08Speaker 2: not good at all? All right, Tyson Bradford, what is
- 32:10Speaker 2: your favorite Simpson's exterior shot. I've always been a fan
- 32:13Speaker 2: of the supermarket with the trolley rolling out of the
- 32:15Speaker 2: car park, which they continue to use for many seasons,
- 32:17Speaker 2: despite it looking like the old animation style. I know
- 32:19Speaker 2: what he's saying, so basically it would be like season
- 32:22Speaker 2: eight and look like season two. It's used the same
- 32:24Speaker 2: exterior shot. I've always said I'm a big fan of
- 32:27Speaker 2: the Simpsons early morning Springfield, Springfield at night, or Springfield
- 32:31Speaker 2: at dawn, Dawn in the morning, right, Yeah, dawn is
- 32:34Speaker 2: the morning, so Springford at dawn where the suns are
- 32:36Speaker 2: starting to rise, the alf Clausen's music queue. It's just
- 32:39Speaker 2: it's peaceful, it's quiet.
- 32:40Speaker 1: I've always really enjoyed that. Yeah, I was, I was
- 32:43Speaker 1: really thinking about this, and honestly, I was drawing a blank.
- 32:45Speaker 1: I'm really sorry, Tyson, this is a very good question.
- 32:48Speaker 1: I mean, I really appre It's something I really appreciate
- 32:51Speaker 1: about this since is how much texture and character it
- 32:53Speaker 1: gives Springfield. I mean, yeah, maybe it's by virtue of
- 32:55Speaker 1: the show having gone on for so long and it's
- 32:57Speaker 1: been part of our lives for so long. It's like,
- 33:00Speaker 1: this really feels familiar to me. I mean, you know,
- 33:02Speaker 1: you sort of you have those exterior shots of as
- 33:05Speaker 1: you said, Dawn, they're.
- 33:06Speaker 2: Always the same or whatever for example, sort to interrupt,
- 33:08Speaker 2: but like you said, familiarity there. So whenever they do
- 33:11Speaker 2: the power plant, you hear the crow, little things like that,
- 33:14Speaker 2: just oh yeah, it's the Simpsons. It's just little things
- 33:16Speaker 2: that you just come to expect, and you know, sometimes
- 33:18Speaker 2: you don't even notice of it. It's because but the
- 33:19Speaker 2: fact that they're there, it makes you feel at home.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Yeah, a little emotional or cognitive triggers like yeah, absolutely.
- 33:24Speaker 1: I mean again, forgive me, Tyson, nothing's really sort of
- 33:27Speaker 1: leaping at it and he's like, oh, I love that
- 33:29Speaker 1: one the most. But that overall sense of familiarity, the
- 33:32Speaker 1: sense of place that the that everyone involved is helping
- 33:36Speaker 1: to create, nurture and develop even further.
- 33:40Speaker 2: The hospital and the church always give you the chance
- 33:42Speaker 2: for a sign gag as well.
- 33:44Speaker 1: That's that's a really great point.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so the exterior shots are great. Stephanie Hudson.
- 33:49Speaker 2: If you were a new kid at Springfield Elementary, who
- 33:52Speaker 2: do you think would be your first friend?
- 33:55Speaker 1: I personally think Millhouse is sort of like good entry
- 33:58Speaker 1: level friend.
- 33:58Speaker 2: He's the one that you would grab a towards. I think, yeah, yeah,
- 34:01Speaker 2: And I think he.
- 34:01Speaker 3: Would sort of gravitate towards you as well, because you
- 34:04Speaker 3: wouldn't feel threatened by him, and you feel like he'd
- 34:06Speaker 3: want to please you as well. That's right, So yeah,
- 34:08Speaker 3: he's good sort of he's a good gateway drug to yeah,
- 34:12Speaker 3: life in at Springfield Elementary.
- 34:13Speaker 1: I think I think Ralph would be sort of like
- 34:17Speaker 1: hard work.
- 34:18Speaker 2: I think, yes, I'd want to be his friend, but
- 34:21Speaker 2: after a while, I go, oh.
- 34:22Speaker 1: Yeah, you'd want to You'd be the kind of hey,
- 34:25Speaker 1: rap hate do on, buddy, I don't want to talk
- 34:27Speaker 1: to you, but hey, you feel better about yourself.
- 34:30Speaker 2: Do you think you'd be friends with Martin?
- 34:32Speaker 1: Possibly? I hope this person is not listening to this podcast.
- 34:36Speaker 1: I don't think they are. I went to school with
- 34:38Speaker 1: someone who reminds me very much about prins not just
- 34:41Speaker 1: in attitude but actually in looks. When I first saw
- 34:45Speaker 1: Martin Brens, I'm like, that's redacted, but yeah, in terms
- 34:50Speaker 1: of like they weren't necessarily sort of prissy, but they
- 34:53Speaker 1: were a bit sort of verging on posh. And yeah,
- 34:58Speaker 1: this person actually looks a bit like Martin Prince and
- 35:01Speaker 1: I always liked this person. But at the same time,
- 35:03Speaker 1: it's like, I don't know if i'd call you my mate.
- 35:05Speaker 1: I mean, this is a person that I was at
- 35:07Speaker 1: school with from soup to nuts, from the very beginning
- 35:10Speaker 1: to the very end, from first day of school to graduation,
- 35:15Speaker 1: and I would say that we actually are pretty quite friendly. Now.
- 35:20Speaker 1: We're certainly friends on Facebook. We had a school reunion
- 35:22Speaker 1: not long ago. We caught them and had like a
- 35:24Speaker 1: really good talk. There's someone that I respect and admire
- 35:28Speaker 1: for various reasons, but at the same time, not necessarily
- 35:31Speaker 1: I don't I don't know if we're mates, but we're friendly,
- 35:35Speaker 1: verging on friends, you know what I mean. That's who
- 35:39Speaker 1: mart reminds me of.
- 35:40Speaker 2: So yeah, you would piss on them if they're on fire,
- 35:42Speaker 2: if that's an Australian saying. You might not get it.
- 35:48Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure.
- 35:49Speaker 2: If not like someone I wouldn't even pis some off
- 35:50Speaker 2: their on fire.
- 35:51Speaker 1: I don't think that's necessarily just Australian. I think that's
- 35:54Speaker 1: I think that might be worldwide. There probably are variations
- 35:56Speaker 1: on the on the theme. But it's good. It's good saying,
- 35:59Speaker 1: isn't it. Yeah? Who do you think?
- 36:03Speaker 2: I've had Millhouse as well. I just think he's the
- 36:05Speaker 2: obvious choice. Who besides Millhouse? Is there anyone else besides Millhouse?
- 36:08Speaker 2: Is there a Millhouse esque kid at the school that
- 36:11Speaker 2: you think you might gravitate towards?
- 36:12Speaker 1: Don't really know enough about Wendell.
- 36:15Speaker 2: For some reason, Wendell came to my mind as well.
- 36:17Speaker 2: I feel like he'd be if we knew more about him.
- 36:19Speaker 1: Maybe it'd be interested to draw up like a pyramid
- 36:23Speaker 1: or a strata or something of like power rankings in
- 36:26Speaker 1: the in the Springfield Elementary playground. I feel like I
- 36:31Speaker 1: wouldn't be friends with Sherry and Terror. I think I've
- 36:33Speaker 1: told you about you know, I went to school with
- 36:35Speaker 1: basically Sherry and Terror as well, the twins who were
- 36:38Speaker 1: kind of like, well, you're intimidating, you're evil. Yeah, and
- 36:42Speaker 1: there's two of you. Yes, it's like it's like I
- 36:44Speaker 1: mentioned the social networ would say, great life on the
- 36:46Speaker 1: social network. Who's going to mess with me? I'm six two,
- 36:48Speaker 1: you know, I rote crew and there's two of me.
- 36:52Speaker 1: That's brilliant.
- 36:53Speaker 2: I feel like Wendell's the kid who doesn't have many friends, right,
- 36:56Speaker 2: so when you become friends with him to go to
- 36:57Speaker 2: his house, his parents would just be like, please stay
- 37:00Speaker 2: like that, will do whatever we can to make sure
- 37:01Speaker 2: you stay. This kid's frankly, we wanted to have friends.
- 37:04Speaker 2: We know he has a PlayStation, but he's yours.
- 37:07Speaker 1: But you know, when Wendel comes over to your house,
- 37:09Speaker 1: which is definitely going to do right, Yeah, you can
- 37:11Speaker 1: play it. You can play it as well.
- 37:13Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. I think mister missus Wendall, so
- 37:16Speaker 2: Gregory your son, I want to say so obviously, Bart
- 37:21Speaker 2: versus Australia is great because it doesn't rely on guest stars.
- 37:24Speaker 2: But we all know if they returned to Australia in
- 37:26Speaker 2: a new episode that there would be plenty of guests.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Name three Australian guests that you would approve in a
- 37:30Speaker 2: Simpsons down Under sequel.
- 37:32Speaker 1: I have thought about this, Okay, oft the times, I'm
- 37:35Speaker 1: just willing it. It's got to be.
- 37:36Speaker 2: It's got to be people who I think maybe all
- 37:40Speaker 2: generations would know, and not just people at the time either. Okay,
- 37:44Speaker 2: it's gonna have a long standing.
- 37:47Speaker 1: Appeal. I think, well, I didn't know there was going
- 37:49Speaker 1: to win me over. Tell me who you Well, I
- 37:53Speaker 1: don't know if I'm gonna win you over. Now I'm
- 37:56Speaker 1: playing a little fast and loose with the with the
- 37:59Speaker 1: Gregory's Guard ones here, but it's going to.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Be an episode in season thirty seven, so it's going
- 38:03Speaker 2: to be Now.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Okay, I think you should have all three hens Worth.
- 38:06Speaker 1: So I think you should have Chris, Luke and Liam.
- 38:08Speaker 1: I'd never know there was a Luke. He's on West World,
- 38:13Speaker 1: he's in a few movies. Yeah, for a while, he
- 38:16Speaker 1: was kind of like the other Hem's Worth, but he
- 38:18Speaker 1: he did all right. But you'd have Chris, Liam and Luke,
- 38:22Speaker 1: uh and think about Yeah. I think their voices are
- 38:25Speaker 1: just slightly different enough that you can tell them apart.
- 38:28Speaker 1: But the joke would be that you can't really tell
- 38:29Speaker 1: them apart. I Lukensworth, Yeah, is he older? I think
- 38:34Speaker 1: he might be the old Yeah, he looks, and I
- 38:37Speaker 1: think he was the one who actually broke out first.
- 38:40Speaker 1: Might have because I think he was on Neighbors now
- 38:42Speaker 1: Australia's favorite long running soap opera that is now demised unfortunately,
- 38:48Speaker 1: which one neighbors what's not Neighbors is done? He came
- 38:51Speaker 1: back again? No, now it's gone again? What pretty sure
- 38:54Speaker 1: they pulled the pin on Neighbors again again? Do some
- 38:58Speaker 1: love googling? Oh, you're right.
- 39:00Speaker 2: Cancel for a second time, as Amazon backs out just
- 39:03Speaker 2: two years after it.
- 39:04Speaker 1: Was even having o C star Mischa Barton come on
- 39:07Speaker 1: board as a guest good and save it? Oh wow,
- 39:11Speaker 1: But I think Luke was on that. But then Chris
- 39:14Speaker 1: was on Home and Away, which is sort of like
- 39:18Speaker 1: Neighbors deadly rival, And then you had Liam as well,
- 39:23Speaker 1: and he's in the Hunger Games all that kind of stuff.
- 39:26Speaker 2: There's three guest stars, but the hems weren't there as
- 39:29Speaker 2: one year unity. I think you've got to have Tony
- 39:32Speaker 2: Collette in there, you know, I have it.
- 39:34Speaker 1: Remember how Tracy Ullman was the voice of the dog Trainer. Yeah, dun, yeah,
- 39:43Speaker 1: I got the building. Tony Collette, who I think is
- 39:45Speaker 1: an actor's actor, very distinct personality, but also like just
- 39:49Speaker 1: a really powerful performer.
- 39:50Speaker 2: Did she put on wait for Muriel's wedding or did she?
- 39:52Speaker 2: Was she just bigger then? I think she put a
- 39:54Speaker 2: bit on.
- 39:55Speaker 1: Okay, yep, yes, I think it's such a depressing movie.
- 39:59Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's there. Everyone's like, oh, it's Abra and everything.
- 40:02Speaker 1: It's like, that's pretty. She's got a really bleak life.
- 40:04Speaker 1: That's pretty ill.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Sister and the mum always put it down. No one
- 40:08Speaker 2: ever has respect for it. It's on ends himself.
- 40:11Speaker 1: And yeah, not good has a happy ish ending though
- 40:15Speaker 1: it does.
- 40:15Speaker 2: Yeah, but you're right, gets away from it all. Yeah,
- 40:18Speaker 2: kind of grim.
- 40:19Speaker 1: I think i'd have Tony Collett in there doing as
- 40:22Speaker 1: we talked about with the good, the bad and the drug.
- 40:26Speaker 1: How Anne Hathaway is on not necessarily like I Hi,
- 40:30Speaker 1: it's Anne Hathaway, but giving a performance correct the habits
- 40:34Speaker 1: were for the kids, I think, so yeah, collect feet, Yeah,
- 40:37Speaker 1: Tony Collette is there to provide a bit of you know,
- 40:40Speaker 1: heft and substances like, hey, we got a legitimate Oscar
- 40:42Speaker 1: nominated actor here and here. And I say this with
- 40:45Speaker 1: all due respect to his distinctive voice. I think you've
- 40:47Speaker 1: got to have pm Elbow in there. Yeah.
- 40:49Speaker 2: I feel I know that's going to date it, that
- 40:51Speaker 2: it will date it, but I also feel like it's
- 40:53Speaker 2: just too much like the British one. I get it,
- 40:55Speaker 2: I get it, but I understand it. Yeah, I'm surprised
- 40:58Speaker 2: you didn't say Hugh Jackman.
- 40:59Speaker 1: He's kind of everywhere at the moment. Yeah, I guess.
- 41:03Speaker 2: I think they would go Hugh Jackman over Collecte in
- 41:07Speaker 2: my opinion, because it's just I'm thinking, if these guests,
- 41:10Speaker 2: these gueststars are playing themselves. Oh okay, so it's not
- 41:13Speaker 2: like we're getting someone to play a character. It's no,
- 41:16Speaker 2: these guest roles up. In my opinion, the way he
- 41:18Speaker 2: read it was which guests would they get on as
- 41:20Speaker 2: Oh my god, it's so and so I don't think.
- 41:22Speaker 2: Maybe Tony collect could do something with Lisa Hm. Maybe
- 41:26Speaker 2: I feel like Lisa would respect Tony Collett. Maybe strong
- 41:30Speaker 2: female lead.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Possibly.
- 41:32Speaker 2: I feel like you'd have to sneak Hugh Jackman in
- 41:34Speaker 2: there somewhere. I know he's everywhere, but I feel you
- 41:36Speaker 2: just have to because he's fucking he's Wolverine, that's true,
- 41:39Speaker 2: and he's he's just he's you Jackman. You Jackman, the
- 41:43Speaker 2: other Australian who's not an Australian musician here you can.
- 41:45Speaker 1: Get in there. Well, that's the thing. I mean, it's
- 41:49Speaker 1: been a while I think since Australia had a real
- 41:52Speaker 1: breakout music star on the world stage.
- 41:55Speaker 2: I'm sure with more study, I could more research, I
- 41:58Speaker 2: could probably think of three struggles.
- 42:02Speaker 1: Nicole Kidman, remember Wilson?
- 42:03Speaker 2: Maybe maybe Yeah, who's like a younger Australian star though,
- 42:08Speaker 2: Oh no, the chick.
- 42:12Speaker 1: Harley Queen. What's her name? Oh, Margot Robbie. Okay, Robbie,
- 42:14Speaker 1: she'd have to be in there. She's Barbie, that's true.
- 42:18Speaker 2: Yeah. Anyway, what she would do, I'm not too sure.
- 42:20Speaker 2: Maybe maybe she could help, Li said, who knows. I
- 42:24Speaker 2: think Margot Robbie is only going to have it there right,
- 42:27Speaker 2: a pretty high profile. I would have Margot Robbie over
- 42:29Speaker 2: Tony Kalette personally, but I can I can completely appreciate Tony.
- 42:33Speaker 1: Collett as well.
- 42:34Speaker 2: Okay, well, I'd like the idea of the Three Hands
- 42:36Speaker 2: with its brothers having something like feud or whatever, just
- 42:38Speaker 2: like a caveo roll.
- 42:39Speaker 1: I do like that. We'll have them as like the
- 42:41Speaker 1: Australian version of Dolve Kearney and Jimbo. It could work
- 42:45Speaker 1: and they all or you know, the Simpsons come to
- 42:47Speaker 1: they go to Byron Bay where Hemsworth famously have this
- 42:50Speaker 1: huge compound and like Bart wants to surf or something
- 42:53Speaker 1: and it's like no locals only like that. All right.
- 42:58Speaker 2: Next question here comes from Mikey Jarremenko. What a name,
- 43:02Speaker 2: Mikey Jarremenko, what is your favorite side show Bob scheme?
- 43:07Speaker 1: I was like a a false marriage kind of deal. Okay, yeah,
- 43:11Speaker 1: the yeah, what's it called a black widower? Yeah?
- 43:14Speaker 2: Yeah, so I'm kind of partial to that because he went,
- 43:16Speaker 2: he went, He committed to that one.
- 43:18Speaker 1: Yeah, he committed a bit. So, which is the art
- 43:21Speaker 1: of any good good scam or good connor good scheme. Yeah,
- 43:23Speaker 1: you've got to go all in one. Yeah, so Black
- 43:25Speaker 1: Widow was a good one. I was always go back
- 43:28Speaker 1: to the original him trying to it just made the
- 43:30Speaker 1: most sense. It wasn't he wasn't like a wacky super
- 43:33Speaker 1: villain trying to kill Bart whatever. Granted, this episode was
- 43:37Speaker 1: the one that set off his hatred for Bart was
- 43:39Speaker 1: when he framed Krusty for the robbery so that he
- 43:41Speaker 1: could get Crusty show. That's oh yeah, yeah what set
- 43:45Speaker 1: off side show Bob because he.
- 43:47Speaker 2: Was Crusty's psychic, correct, Yeah, and he got he hated
- 43:50Speaker 2: the fact that he was a psychic and he wanted
- 43:52Speaker 2: to have the show to himself.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Then he got his own show choices. It's good character
- 43:55Speaker 1: stuff as well, and of course great casting and Kelsey
- 43:58Speaker 1: Grammer he choose to fill at the end. Yeah, but
- 44:02Speaker 1: you can.
- 44:02Speaker 2: Directed by Brad Bird that episode, Oh no.
- 44:04Speaker 1: Wonder it's good, my man, Brad. I love that guy.
- 44:09Speaker 1: It's great. It's great across the board because I mean, yeah,
- 44:11Speaker 1: Kelsey Gramer is such good casting that because he always
- 44:13Speaker 1: plays that kind of like I'm a bit better than this.
- 44:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, even though he's like probably not have it.
- 44:20Speaker 2: He's smarter, but is he better in the role?
- 44:23Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 44:24Speaker 2: He has that that potential that.
- 44:26Speaker 1: Comes across of like yeah, so degraded that I have
- 44:30Speaker 1: to do this, but you know I must Daddy likes money.
- 44:37Speaker 1: He does like money. Indeed, Yeah, that's a really good one.
- 44:40Speaker 1: I mean, you're bringing me around to your way. I
- 44:42Speaker 1: think a good question by Mikey.
- 44:44Speaker 2: It was indeed, Yeah, we didn't mind the Italian Bobby
- 44:46Speaker 2: that did be where he got out he got away.
- 44:48Speaker 2: He had his own family and bar screwed it up
- 44:50Speaker 2: on him.
- 44:51Speaker 1: That's true. Yeah, that Italian lifestyle. Yeah, not a way
- 44:54Speaker 1: to go.

- 45:25Speaker 2: you think Lisa would have benefited from having her own
- 45:28Speaker 2: best friend like Millhouse? It seems she likes to be
- 45:30Speaker 2: the lone wolf with her campaigns, but still I always
- 45:33Speaker 2: felt sorry for her when I was a kid, since
- 45:35Speaker 2: she never seemed to be visited by any of her friends.
- 45:37Speaker 1: Much at all. Yeah, I was thinking about this and
- 45:40Speaker 1: how it would change your character. I think I think
- 45:43Speaker 1: it would.
- 45:44Speaker 2: You know, she's always it's always it's Lisa against the world,
- 45:47Speaker 2: and it's hard to do it if you've got a buddy, yeah.
- 45:49Speaker 1: Who's sort of backing up. But then yeah, there'll be
- 45:51Speaker 1: episodes where you know, Lisa will be having like a
- 45:53Speaker 1: slumber party or whatever. Yeah, and that's why they say
- 45:56Speaker 1: much at all. She doesn't seem to be entirely friendless,
- 46:01Speaker 1: but yeah, having a second manana or a straight man
- 46:06Speaker 1: like Bart has Millhouse, Yeah, that's a whole different dynamic
- 46:10Speaker 1: and kind of interesting and opens things up to certain storylines.
- 46:13Speaker 2: And Saturday Morning at the Simpsons, there's always Bart's going
- 46:16Speaker 2: to see what Millhouse is doing.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Lisa's at home doing something.
- 46:18Speaker 2: By its doing something, because when she has a slumber
- 46:20Speaker 2: party and stuff like that. I do see Lisa as
- 46:22Speaker 2: that kid at school who the kids picked on when
- 46:24Speaker 2: it came to birthday parties, like, oh, we'll come to
- 46:26Speaker 2: your birthday party. Yeah, yeah, we'll enjoy that.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Yeah, And we're not being picked on twenty four seven.
- 46:31Speaker 1: It's not like, oh God, another day in the misery minds.
- 46:37Speaker 2: They locked Lisa for, you know, when she wants to
- 46:38Speaker 2: be vegetarian.
- 46:40Speaker 1: I always remember that, but just like it's not you're
- 46:43Speaker 1: picked on for who you are. More as like something.
- 46:47Speaker 2: It's kind of more like what you do. Yeah, they're
- 46:49Speaker 2: not just bullying her all the time.
- 46:50Speaker 1: No, No, it's like, ah, you've done something that we
- 46:53Speaker 1: find your appearance is carmical to me, and they pick
- 46:58Speaker 1: on that as opposed to you only since and we
- 47:00Speaker 1: hate you.
- 47:01Speaker 2: Yeah, so and now it's to guess what today is
- 47:03Speaker 2: bullying day challenged. It would change the dynamic of her character.
- 47:06Speaker 2: If she had a best friend, I think, I think
- 47:09Speaker 2: so like a right hand man, right hand woman.
- 47:13Speaker 1: But I think the way Lisa has been designed and
- 47:15Speaker 1: probably been designed from the start, is that she's very
- 47:19Speaker 1: self possessed. She doesn't need anybody, and she yeah, she
- 47:21Speaker 1: doesn't need anybody, and you know, her friends are like
- 47:24Speaker 1: her causes and that she picks up. I don't think
- 47:26Speaker 1: she wants friends. I think she likes the idea of
- 47:29Speaker 1: it all being about her because she we've seen her.
- 47:31Speaker 1: She likes it being about Lisa, Yeah, whereas Bart is
- 47:34Speaker 1: more like, yeah, I'm just going with the flow man,
- 47:36Speaker 1: and you know, it's good to have someone to sort
- 47:37Speaker 1: of like back me up all that I can sort
- 47:39Speaker 1: of push around a little bit. But I don't think
- 47:42Speaker 1: Lisa would kind of yeah, she wouldn't have the kind
- 47:45Speaker 1: of friendship dynamic that say Barton Millhouse had, no because.
- 47:47Speaker 2: That's the show evolved. Bar It wasn't the cool kid
- 47:49Speaker 2: anymore at school. So I feel like bart keeps Millhouse,
- 47:52Speaker 2: doesn't keep Millhouse around, but Millhouse balances him out because
- 47:55Speaker 2: it makes him feel cool feels because Millhouse is such
- 47:57Speaker 2: a dud, but he still likes House. Oh sure, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 48:01Speaker 2: As we just touched on in Goodness Out and the Drug,
- 48:04Speaker 2: that's exactly right.
- 48:05Speaker 1: I keep wanting to say the good the band, and
- 48:06Speaker 1: the drug let very well done. Makers of the episode.
- 48:13Speaker 2: Matt Kaye, if Mo were to ever leave Springfield, who
- 48:15Speaker 2: do you think could replace him as the bartender? That's
- 48:18Speaker 2: a good question. You could replace Moe as the bartender
- 48:21Speaker 2: is someone that you wouldn't expect. I think it would
- 48:22Speaker 2: be better. Let's just not go on with the barf
- 48:24Speaker 2: lives or anything. It's someone you wouldn't expect Skinner. Skinner
- 48:27Speaker 2: retires as principle and become.
- 48:29Speaker 1: Or has to side hustle because teachers don't get paidhit
- 48:31Speaker 1: in him. Yeah that's true, but I just yeah, how
- 48:36Speaker 1: about how about Lindsay Nagel taking over Mo's and trying
- 48:39Speaker 1: to rebrand it or try to gentrify it.
- 48:42Speaker 2: That could work for an episode. Will that be working
- 48:43Speaker 2: long term?
- 48:44Speaker 1: Though? It could work for that could be a good
- 48:45Speaker 1: episode story. Yeah, that's a good point.
- 48:49Speaker 2: Mo leaves town or he says I'm out of the
- 48:51Speaker 2: business and Lindsay Nagel takes over Ruth Powers you know that.
- 48:55Speaker 2: Oh yeah, she seems rough around the edge. She could
- 48:58Speaker 2: do it, sure, Yeah, Sean, it's going to be someone
- 49:02Speaker 2: who who can because the Moe doesn't really listen to advice.
- 49:07Speaker 2: He's just sort of this grumpy bartender.
- 49:09Speaker 1: Right.
- 49:09Speaker 2: Do you think you'd have to go somewhere different, so
- 49:11Speaker 2: someone who's not just going to be replacing Mo, but
- 49:13Speaker 2: giving it a different vibe.
- 49:14Speaker 1: Yeah. See, it's really tough to take an existing character
- 49:17Speaker 1: who has their own specific role in the ecosystem of
- 49:21Speaker 1: Springfield and turn them to something else. What you said
- 49:25Speaker 1: before about when I suggested Lindsay good for an episode.
- 49:27Speaker 1: Likewise a comic book guy good for an episode. He
- 49:30Speaker 1: turns it into Miss Bartronic or something like that. But yeah,
- 49:34Speaker 1: I can't see him doing that full time, and I
- 49:36Speaker 1: think it would just upset the way things are in
- 49:39Speaker 1: the show. I think you'd probably have to introduce a
- 49:42Speaker 1: whole new bartender, but that's got its own degree of definitely,
- 49:45Speaker 1: hasn't it. Yeah, it'd be. Here's the thing, here's the
- 49:50Speaker 1: joy of The Simpsons being an animated series. Now, admittedly
- 49:53Speaker 1: you're going to have to.
- 49:54Speaker 2: Is it a way to bring back a Pooh because
- 49:56Speaker 2: who's been written off the show?
- 49:57Speaker 1: Now?
- 49:58Speaker 2: They've just written off the show, right? Because that I
- 50:00Speaker 2: want to have him work in the quickie mark and
- 50:02Speaker 2: the voice and whatnot. I think you could bring back
- 50:05Speaker 2: a Poo as the bartender because then he's going to
- 50:07Speaker 2: be there all the time.
- 50:09Speaker 1: True. But the thing about I think every location on
- 50:15Speaker 1: The Simpsons has its specific purpose. It does. And the bar, Yeah,
- 50:21Speaker 1: the bar is very much life is suppressing. We've come
- 50:24Speaker 1: here to get away from it. I think if you
- 50:26Speaker 1: have someone who is vaguely positive or vaguely motivated or
- 50:30Speaker 1: something like that behind the bar, going hey, guards is
- 50:32Speaker 1: not the it was like the Cheers bar, it wouldn't
- 50:35Speaker 1: be the same. Yeah, yeah, I think the I think
- 50:37Speaker 1: the bar has to I think Mo's has to remain
- 50:40Speaker 1: Moe's even if was not behind the bar. It has
- 50:42Speaker 1: to be kind of like, oh, well, you know, work
- 50:45Speaker 1: sucks I know quick, we've been copyright struck.
- 50:53Speaker 2: Forster Jackson. This isn't a question, but I just wanted
- 50:56Speaker 2: to see him Forester Forest Jackson, far as the Jackson.
- 51:02Speaker 2: Just about to say that, I was just about to
- 51:05Speaker 2: say exactly like.
- 51:06Speaker 1: That, far As the Jackson.
- 51:09Speaker 2: This isn't a question, but I just wanted to sing
- 51:10Speaker 2: the praises of you guys for how much you how
- 51:12Speaker 2: much love you give the character of Martin.
- 51:14Speaker 1: I feel I feel he's.
- 51:15Speaker 2: Underrated in terms of fan favoritism since literally literally every
- 51:19Speaker 2: time Martin's on screen, it's always hilarious. Are there any
- 51:22Speaker 2: other secondary characters you feel deserve more widespread love for us?
- 51:26Speaker 1: That's a great question, and honestly, yeah, we given we
- 51:29Speaker 1: be just talking about Martin a whole lot. Hopefully you're
- 51:31Speaker 1: enjoying this episode of The Mailback. Ah, this is great,
- 51:35Speaker 1: but oh but tough, isn't it?
- 51:38Speaker 2: Side characters? I feel we're also also in an era
- 51:41Speaker 2: here where side characters that don't get much love now
- 51:44Speaker 2: get a lot of love because it's cool to like them. Sure,
- 51:47Speaker 2: it's why Bob Effect got his own TV shown and
- 51:50Speaker 2: now we don't love that, And we've discussed that in
- 51:54Speaker 2: the Simpsons. When we know more about these one note characters,
- 51:58Speaker 2: it ruins.
- 51:58Speaker 1: The aura of them. I use the metaphor flavor balance
- 52:03Speaker 1: a lot. Yeah, and all the spices. Yeah, and you
- 52:06Speaker 1: got to be careful with what you sprinkle under the show.
- 52:08Speaker 1: I mean, the Simpson family is the is the base
- 52:11Speaker 1: of it. And yeah, if you have too much or
- 52:15Speaker 1: too much Martin, too much, anyone's like, oh, what do
- 52:19Speaker 1: we say before about getting sick of things when you
- 52:20Speaker 1: get overexposed to them. So, yeah, you gotta be careful
- 52:25Speaker 1: how you deploy certain characters.
- 52:27Speaker 2: I think I think because of you, I have more
- 52:30Speaker 2: love for the wise Guy. I think you've given the
- 52:32Speaker 2: wise Guy extra love. He was always that guy, was
- 52:35Speaker 2: just there. But I think you've maybe appreciate the character
- 52:37Speaker 2: more so. I think I think the wise Guy would
- 52:39Speaker 2: be good to answer that question, yeah, because you don't
- 52:42Speaker 2: really hear people saying how great's the wise Guy character?
- 52:45Speaker 1: Yeah, but then when you he rocks up and he's
- 52:47Speaker 1: got a long he's there all the time. Yeah, anyway's
- 52:50Speaker 1: using that voice, he's great.
- 52:52Speaker 2: The writers must love him because you can put him
- 52:53Speaker 2: in anyway.
- 52:54Speaker 1: That's true. Yeah, plug and play, which is fantastic Forrest
- 52:57Speaker 1: I'm sorry, we're not really answering that all there. Well,
- 52:59Speaker 1: and maybe you're not answering the way you want it,
- 53:01Speaker 1: because when you say deserve more widespread love, we're not.
- 53:04Speaker 1: I don't think you're necessarily saying put them in every episode,
- 53:07Speaker 1: but it's like, hey, you know who's good is such
- 53:09Speaker 1: and such?
- 53:09Speaker 2: When you hear favorite characters, favorite side characters is always
- 53:12Speaker 2: like krusty pooh Mo, that kind of thing, Lenny, you
- 53:15Speaker 2: don't really hear the Martin Prince. When we say not disparaging,
- 53:19Speaker 2: we say the B team.
- 53:20Speaker 1: But yeah, supporting characters, and I think you're thinking of
- 53:24Speaker 1: someone characters who are a little more sort of cameo.
- 53:29Speaker 1: I'm sorry we can't answer it, but we hope We've
- 53:31Speaker 1: had a pretty stimulating discussion about the nature of these
- 53:33Speaker 1: things here.
- 53:35Speaker 2: I've scrolled down a bit. Shara Luise is down to bottom.
- 53:38Speaker 2: Did you ever read the Simpsons or Futurama comic books?
- 53:41Speaker 2: My dad used to buy them for me as a kid.
- 53:43Speaker 2: I never did, but did you I certainly did now.
- 53:46Speaker 2: I busted them out for the first time two days ago,
- 53:48Speaker 2: just round this question came through. I just read to
- 53:51Speaker 2: the kids, kids like, what can we read and I thought,
- 53:52Speaker 2: you know, a kid, I'm gonna read you your first
- 53:54Speaker 2: comic book. And I've can see you've got all the
- 53:55Speaker 2: Spider Simpsons comics are They're all down at bottom there,
- 53:58Speaker 2: who I've got most of them, right, And I'm reading
- 54:01Speaker 2: this and I'm going, I just don't think Elliott like
- 54:04Speaker 2: he's six years old. These comics, the Simpsons ones, the
- 54:07Speaker 2: jokes go over his head. I think, if you're watching
- 54:09Speaker 2: a show and it's just sort of being spoken to
- 54:11Speaker 2: you and the things are moving around.
- 54:13Speaker 1: Plus different line delivery, mine delivery, me just.
- 54:16Speaker 2: Reading out the jokes, it was showing over his head.
- 54:18Speaker 2: And I was like, I got like two pages and
- 54:19Speaker 2: I went, let's get something, alse mate. I don't think
- 54:21Speaker 2: comic books are quite there for you, or these ones anyway.
- 54:24Speaker 2: I personally love the Simpsons comic books.
- 54:26Speaker 1: I think.
- 54:26Speaker 2: But I look back now, I think I when I
- 54:29Speaker 2: think of my childhood, right, I'll watch this when I
- 54:31Speaker 2: was a kid, I just a kid. Yeah, but you
- 54:33Speaker 2: were like ten or twelve, you know, Elliot's still six. Sure,
- 54:36Speaker 2: I think I just equate him to being my age.
- 54:39Speaker 2: I look like nineteenninety eight, I was watching the Simpson
- 54:41Speaker 2: ninety eight. Yeah, you were ten, Brinon. He's six.
- 54:43Speaker 1: He doesn't quite get these. There's a big difference.
- 54:44Speaker 2: There is a big difference. Yeah, so I think in
- 54:46Speaker 2: a couple of years he'll really like that. But he's
- 54:48Speaker 2: still only six, he's nearly seven. Potential frauds call him.
- 54:51Speaker 2: Shall I answer it?
- 54:52Speaker 1: Absolutely? Let's go hello?
- 54:58Speaker 2: Block?
- 55:00Speaker 1: Was that an electronic nois?
- 55:05Speaker 2: I do love that aspect now where they can tell
- 55:06Speaker 2: you that it's fraud from the get go and you're
- 55:08Speaker 2: just like, yeah, I'm not going to answer that block?
- 55:10Speaker 1: Were you? The one who told me was like, you
- 55:11Speaker 1: don't answer for like five seconds.
- 55:13Speaker 2: I just said hello for the sake of this. But
- 55:14Speaker 2: if it's every one of those don't speak for five seconds,
- 55:17Speaker 2: they can't speak until you do. Most people answer the
- 55:19Speaker 2: phone saying hello, yeah, and it's like, oh, that's.
- 55:21Speaker 1: My cue to speak. That's the thing. If I don't
- 55:23Speaker 1: recognize the number, then I'll just answer and dead air,
- 55:26Speaker 1: dead air, dead air and hang up and we're like.
- 55:30Speaker 2: The hack works. That's right, beat the system a matrix
- 55:37Speaker 2: I am. I love the Simpsons comic books and now
- 55:39Speaker 2: paled Dylan Haggart.
- 55:40Speaker 1: He sent me some.
- 55:40Speaker 2: Future on the comic books, once as well, So I
- 55:42Speaker 2: appreciate that, Dylan think. But one of my favorite memories
- 55:45Speaker 2: as kid was going to go into my great nand's
- 55:47Speaker 2: house on a Wednesday and we'd walk up to the
- 55:49Speaker 2: news agency because I don't even go there on a
- 55:51Speaker 2: school holiday. So the Wednesday we go to great Lands,
- 55:53Speaker 2: walk up the road to the Beraneva Road news agency,
- 55:55Speaker 2: get myself a Simpsons comic book and a couple of
- 55:57Speaker 2: packs of footy cards.
- 55:58Speaker 1: Good times. Wow, sound great? That does sound great? Indeed?
- 56:01Speaker 2: All right, another question here, Adam Young. When it was
- 56:05Speaker 2: first created, the Symptoms was an edgy antidote to the
- 56:08Speaker 2: established family sitcom genre. In the decades since, the show
- 56:11Speaker 2: has outlived the genre it was parroting, and as so
- 56:14Speaker 2: and so has changed over time. Do you think there's
- 56:17Speaker 2: a show on TV now that is the same spirit,
- 56:19Speaker 2: something that takes a jab at the modern sitcom formula.
- 56:22Speaker 2: The only one that springs to mind for me is
- 56:24Speaker 2: What We Do in the Shadows that takes the established
- 56:26Speaker 2: modern style of a naturalistic fly in the world documentary
- 56:29Speaker 2: but pushes it to the absurd by being about vampires.
- 56:32Speaker 1: Never seen that show? Have you seen it? I've seen
- 56:34Speaker 1: the movie and a lot of people who taste I
- 56:38Speaker 1: respect are like, yeah, what we do in the Shadow
- 56:39Speaker 1: is pretty good. I've yet to catch it, but the
- 56:42Speaker 1: movie is actually pretty good.
- 56:43Speaker 2: I can honestly say I don't watch enough modern TV
- 56:45Speaker 2: to be able to answer this question.
- 56:47Speaker 1: There is that in a lot of ways. I mean, yeah,
- 56:48Speaker 1: the answer that I'm going to give might seem pretty dated,
- 56:51Speaker 1: even though show was still going. It has been over
- 56:53Speaker 1: quite some time. But I tend to think of like,
- 56:56Speaker 1: it's always something in Philadelphia.
- 56:57Speaker 2: That's what came to my mind. As one We've had
- 56:59Speaker 2: Dost quest for us to do a podcast on that show.
- 57:01Speaker 2: Apparently it's like Seifeld. Okay, I've never seen a single episode.
- 57:05Speaker 2: I've only seen bits and Peace Goes Forever and I've
- 57:07Speaker 2: seen a very long time. I never seen an episode
- 57:09Speaker 2: of it, and I think it was initially designed, as
- 57:12Speaker 2: anim was pointing out here, like the Simpsons were designeders like, Okay.
- 57:15Speaker 1: So it's like Ozzie and Harry or leave it to Be,
- 57:18Speaker 1: but those traditional family sitcoms where it's like where you're
- 57:22Speaker 1: you gonna be, but I'm gonna go PENI Fits or
- 57:24Speaker 1: something like that, it's always sunny, was sort of like
- 57:29Speaker 1: the anti friends. Okay, I think I could be entirely
- 57:34Speaker 1: mistaken here. So when did it start two thousand and
- 57:36Speaker 1: six ish or two thousand and NINETI ish early two thousands,
- 57:39Speaker 1: early to mid two thousands, maybe mean later, so always sunny.
- 57:44Speaker 1: Two thousand and five.
- 57:45Speaker 2: Wow, it was a long time ago and it's still
- 57:47Speaker 2: going seventeen seasons. Yeah, crazy didn't go away for a
- 57:50Speaker 2: while and then came.
- 57:51Speaker 1: Back or something. That's a good question.
- 57:52Speaker 2: I'm not sure because that's two thousand and five, seventeen
- 57:57Speaker 2: years utter between twenty two, so there must have been
- 57:59Speaker 2: a break, maybe during COVID or something quite possible. Yeah,
- 58:02Speaker 2: but always Sonny. Yeah, I've had nothing of good things
- 58:04Speaker 2: that My favorite meme gift is is Daddy to Be Gone?
- 58:10Speaker 1: Yeah. I think it's very easily memorable as well. There's
- 58:12Speaker 1: a lot of it's got the drawing on the board
- 58:14Speaker 1: Chali dated with this sort of wall of weird or something.
- 58:16Speaker 1: It's like, yeah, anytime conspiracy theories come up, like well
- 58:19Speaker 1: just use Charlie Day. So yeah, I get the feeling
- 58:22Speaker 1: that you're always on. It does a bit of twisting
- 58:26Speaker 1: version to the point where and that's what it was
- 58:28Speaker 1: initially designed. It's like, Oh, you're hanging out with your
- 58:30Speaker 1: favorite friends and they've always got each other's back, and
- 58:32Speaker 1: they'll always sort of they'll mess up, but they're generally
- 58:34Speaker 1: doing the right thing.
- 58:35Speaker 2: So is it is it a sitcom in the traditional
- 58:38Speaker 2: sense or is it more like a modern family style.
- 58:40Speaker 1: I think it's more. I think it sort of is
- 58:43Speaker 1: the camera at all. No, I don't think there's sports
- 58:47Speaker 1: wall breaking, but I think it's to the best of
- 58:50Speaker 1: my understanding. But it's also shot in it's kind of
- 58:52Speaker 1: rough and ready way, because I think they've made the
- 58:54Speaker 1: pilot on like a fairly average kind of camcorder, okay,
- 58:58Speaker 1: and just sort of relied on their comic chemistry, their
- 59:01Speaker 1: comic chemistry as a group, their comic talents as individuals,
- 59:05Speaker 1: and their willingness to yeah, just be highly inappropriate but
- 59:10Speaker 1: funny with it and being sort of fearless in that regard.
- 59:12Speaker 1: Friends is great, Got no problem with it. But it's
- 59:15Speaker 1: also fairly stock standard in terms of like, here's a
- 59:19Speaker 1: bunch of good looking people, they're well dressed, one of
- 59:22Speaker 1: them occasionally have a crush on another or a long
- 59:24Speaker 1: yeah whatever, Whereas this is kind of like what can
- 59:27Speaker 1: we do the highly it's a bit South Parking in
- 59:30Speaker 1: that regard. Yeah, the anti establishment. So yeah, that's what
- 59:37Speaker 1: I would say.
- 59:37Speaker 2: Okay, especially when it launched, it sound like it was
- 59:40Speaker 2: the show that certainly, Yeah, I was a goot to say.
- 59:42Speaker 2: And now it's been around long enough that it becomes
- 59:45Speaker 2: much like South park Is is like, oh, well they've
- 59:47Speaker 2: been doing this for this long, Well comes back because
- 59:51Speaker 2: that's what they do.
- 59:51Speaker 1: Yeah, kind of thing. Reece Roberts.
- 59:53Speaker 2: Do you think there will ever be a King of
- 59:55Speaker 2: the Hill movie or more crossovers with it being on
- 59:57Speaker 2: Disney Plus, there'll be some sort of crossover think to
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: sort of like a Simpsons short with King of the Hill.
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: Yeah, but here's the thing. King of the Hill is
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: so very much its own thing. It's on Hulu, isn't it. Yeah,
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: you've got I'm sure talented people in all these Riders
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: rooms and all these all these production stuff were like, yeah,
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: we can find a way to merge these two together,
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: you know, in an interesting synergistic way that will improve
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: both shows or what's the word. I'm looking to promote
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: both shows well without sunding too cheesy, But King of
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: the Hill has such its own voice and its own
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: style so different is it. Yeah, that to mash it
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: up with the with the Simpsons or something like that.
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: It was like, we didn't have that one crossover in
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: Bart's Star where Bart plays football and they play the
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: they play Aarlen's team and they beat them and it
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: cust to hanging. So we drove two thousand miles for
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: this or something like that.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: That works.
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: Yeah, just a little bit, just a throwaway gag like that,
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: but we're going to alm baby.
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: Yeah, but having say Homer inter with Hank.
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: Hill let us look so different as well. Yeah, it'll
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: just be why are you yellow?
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: We all enjoy a lovely PEB and Jay sandwich peanut
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: butter and jam. This would be a PB and S
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: sandwich peanut butter and sardines, which could work.
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: Who knows that might be a taste, Ryan King, he's
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: an old school question for Dando. I've literally been wondering
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: this for years. What was the story of Mitch not
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: knowing who trust McNeil is. I've listened to all of
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: season one of the podcasts and haven't been able to
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: find any reference of it happening. All I can find
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: is you guys talking about that time Misch didn't know
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: who she was I'm pretty sure we were doing the
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: show and I just kept saying, trust mc neil, trust
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: me neil, and then Mitch just goes, you need to
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: and I think he just sort of said to me
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: at the time, you need to explain to you to
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: the listeners who trustmcneil is, because I won't get it.
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: And I remember I looked and I went, wait, you
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: don't know who trust mecniel.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Is, and he went no.
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: I was like, she fucking the voice actor. And I
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: think we cut it out because Mitch was like, oh shit,
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: so we just cut it out and then maybe we
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: made reference to it, but the actual when he said
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: who is trust McNeil was removed from all existence.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: Here's the thing.
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: I mean, forgive someone for not knowing voice actor names
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: because she's not there's not on the top of the poster.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: No, And I think when you I say this, with
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: all due respect to trest McNeil, When I think of
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: trust McNeil, I think The Simpsons. I don't think of
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: her as like it's trust McNeil. I think of trust McNeil,
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: that that actor on The Simpsons.
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you know, she's voice so she's one of
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: the worst. She's she is the most iconic female voice
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: actor of all.
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, a terrific player in that regard.
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: So but if I went up to I said this
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: to Nicola, voice actors are incredible. But if you walked
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: up to anyone in the street and said who is
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: Tess McNeil, I reckon nine out of ten wouldn't have them.
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: No idea you walked up and say who is Jim Cummings.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: I used to say when I was doing Jim Cummings,
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: I do do the podcast at Jim Cummings, They go,
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: who is the voice of Windy the pooh? Oh? Yeah?
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: What did the pooh? They know the characters, sure, they
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: don't know the people behind them, that's correct. So yeah,
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: even someone like Marshall Wallace who has a long and
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: had a long story career. Here, No, it doesn't necessarily
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: ring a bell voice, mister k oh.
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, she does that.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: So that's but that's that's the voice actors a lot
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: in life. Most it's Billy West.
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: Yeah, Billy West is like a living legend, you know,
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: but he's run to still be you know, he's all
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: these but oh he does those characters.
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: Okay, you could say, who's Phil Lamar? Yeah, and you
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: could maybe even really have a lot of voice Mark,
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: but he's also you got shot in the face by
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: John t. Voll Pop. Oh, okay, gotcha. Yeah, it's an
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: interesting conundrum for a voice I mean, a good voice
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: actor is going to work a lot and probably gonna
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: work forever. Yea, yeah, but I forgive but give me
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: not knowing who she was.
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: But but that's the reason I think we removed it
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: from it.
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: It's a feeling you're doing like a Simpsons podcast. Though
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: you have to be watching a few episodes of the Simpsons,
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: and yeah, you would see the name Trest mc neil
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: popping up all the t're sticking around for the credits.
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: You should do at a tea. Do you find that,
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: as a parent, when letting your little ones watch The Simpsons,
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: that you tend to skip the Itch Scratchy cartoons. I've
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: actually mentioned this. Obviously I watched them as a kid,
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: but I look at them now and I just think, wow,
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: this is really violent. Always skip ahead from my kids.
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: I'm exactly the same. I put the sims for Holly
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: and Elliott and if she has Scratchy, come on, and
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: I go I don't think I'm happy for them to
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: be watching this.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: Yes, it's pretty like the Itchy and Scratchy.
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: Cartoons are really violent, and I understand that in a cartoon, right,
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: that's the joke. I understand, But I don't think my
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: four year old needs to be watching that kind of violence.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: And that's what the episode my age versus She Scratchy
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: is all about. Sure, right, it's just it's just animated
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: TV violence. Maybe it's just the world we live in now.
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: But I go, I think I was put up Babies
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: back on for you, Holly. I don't think you quite
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: are ready for the Itchy and Scratchy cartoons yet. Okay,
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: look the I put the Simpsons movie on and it
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: starts with Itchy and Scratchy cartoon. And Holly's first thing
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: was why is that cat cup heading the She she
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: like shell She dwelled on it for a while, but
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: why was he doing that? So I was just just
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: for the it's just a joke for the movie, but
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: why And that's all.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: She could just fixate it on it. No, Itching scratch
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: is a pretty grown up gag. Yeah, and the nature
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: of its being so yeah, gratuitously, disgustingly violent. Yeah, it's
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: a pretty grown up gag. And but if you've got
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: younger kids who are watching the Simpsons, yeah, I mean
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: a middle maybe our nervings have burned out. Might not
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: from you know, say, watching the original Itching Scratchy, Tom
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: and Jerry, where they're always you know, combative and or
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: like the road Run of the Road. You know, the
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: thing is always getting blown up.
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: But those cartoons don't have blood, which Scratchy has the blood.
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: Yeah. So yeah, and that's and that's the gag with
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: eaching scratches, like, well, what would this really be? Like,
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: you know if they had these two cute animal buddies,
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: buddies who were you know, constantly getting into scraps. Oh
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: what if you took it to these strings? What if
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: you took it to the next level? What if you
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: took it to a level that I.
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: Know there's going to be people out there saying, oh,
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: your kids are soft, And I'm like, I hear what
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: you're saying, Right, kids are meant to be soft.
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: With yes, let them let them stay soft for a
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: little while. They don't necessarily have been working down the mines.
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: Just yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah, So I just I
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: don't know, I hear. I understand when people say that
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: she just Crutchry cartoons are two violent because I felt
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: it as well. I still left it on, but I
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: went maybe they entered my mind. Maybe I shouldn't. Yeah.
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: Possibly as a side note, and ty Dano printed out
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: these questions sent them to me in a word document,
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: and I read this as do I tend to skip
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: the IBS cartoons? I'm like, I would skip a cartoon
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: that was all. I don't want to watch that. So
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: this one here from Dan pop o'matic. Given the recent
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: passing of the genius that is Alf Clausen, what is
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: your favorite of his music cues from The Simpsons? Probably
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: an impossible question, Sorry, yeah, probably word You're right, Dan popomatic.
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: I, there's the one. It's the transitions. So for me,
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: it's like the I'm not I'm not going to do
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: I'll play it here. It's just one of those bits
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: of music that's sort of it's uplifting, it makes it
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: feel good. It's usually when something successful happens, like someone
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: we something, it's like, yeah, achieved your goal.
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: Yes, yeah. It's a really tough question then, because you
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: mentioned the genius that is our course and that's great
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: because I mean what he's doing is providing just underlying texture.
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: Good music like this. It's not meant to be sort
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: of like standing out at you. It's not meant to
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: leap out it. You go, wow, what a great music cue.
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: But once you notice the music's there, it's all you hear.
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: Is especially the shows that we watch like SVU and
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: we're watching ear at the moment, I'm like, oh, Nikola
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: even said the other day, she goes, oh, the music
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: started it serious business talking this like so and so
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: with something broken up, get the people, don't do the
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: music stuff.
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: So as you said, I mean, given the reason passing, Yeah,
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: it was in the rest in Peace Olf, that's when
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: you sort of take stock and you know, wow, this
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: guy did a lot of good stuff, and you really
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: start to revisit things, or you really start to if
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: you're watching them. Soode you listen and you go, oh wow, okay,
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: that's intrinsic to yeah, the success of this scene or
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: you know, my enjoyment of this episode. So yes, thank
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: you for the impossible question, Dan pop upmatic. But we're
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: glad we were First of all, we're glad that you
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: paid triby to have clause and because yeah, that guy's great.
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I do like the cue as a que I'll
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: play this one here. So basically what that does is
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: it incorporates the Simpsons theme, but in a transitional way.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: So that's what he done so well, was he would
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: get the theme song but tweak it, put a clock
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: in it, and tweak it where you still knew you
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: were watching the Simpsons, but it wasn't the Simpsons theme,
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: which is.
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: Pretty tough because of Danny Alpin's theme, as we always say,
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: is iconic, but it's also kind of.
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: It's very in your face, it's very overpowering. As I said,
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: we're off to the circus. Well, it's Thanny Alpha overall,
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: isn't it actually?
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: So to take that and tone it down a little,
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: turn it into fabric and weave it all throughout the show, yeah,
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: is a big ask, and it's something that they all
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: pulled off really really well.
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: Yes. All right, let's do one more question here and
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: we'll wrap up this month's mail bag Trainiac Maniac. Are
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: there any jokes in the Simpsons that you never really
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: got or don't understand why people find them so hilarious?
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: It can be from now or when you were a kid. Well,
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: there was still a jokes I didn't get when I
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: was a kid. I understand now was in adult and
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: I love them ones that I never quite I've always said,
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: I don't quite get the love that Everything's coming up
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: Millhouse gets. I think it's just something that's fun to say. Sure, yeah,
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: as opposed to being a really funny gag. Everyone goes
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: Everything's coming up millhous you know the Simpsons too, But
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: I don't see it as a genuinely funny gag.
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: You don't like the Rakes, do you. I'm not a
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: huge fan of the Rakes. Yeah, I mean I again,
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: it's one of those things everyone's got this I think
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: where it's like that is a joke. It's a quote
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: a wolf from what is it? Star Trek Next Genera
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: is like that is a joke. It is not funny,
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: but I recognize it as a joke. Yeah, yeah, I'd
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: recognize that. The cap for your thing is like, oh
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: he stepping around, Oh he keeps stepping on rakes. Oh
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: it's gone from funny to not funny. It's been going
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: so long it's back to a funny bugger. So yeah,
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: but it's just something that doesn't really hit my funny
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: mote all that much. But the thing I was thinking
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: about this is, I mean, because here's the thing about
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: my experience with The Simpsons. I mean, I was clearly
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: a lot older than you when I started watching it,
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: and I get the field of people who were creating
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: it were of course older than me, but we had
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: the same sort of frames of reference, and even if
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: I didn't get all the gags, I would sort of
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: understand where their heads were at. The thing that leaps
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: to mind, I think, is it Millhouse who says this?
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: But it's like, whoa a Bob mackey? I knew the
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: name Bob mcke because I think you'd like, Yeah, I
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: was a Landa Tayman JUNKI and I think, oh, he
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: designed that dress for Share that she woke to the
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: Oscars that everyone thought, wow, how outrageous. Yeah, his name
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: was sort of in the zegus. But but a kid like,
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: is it is it Milhouse who says it? Or is
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: it maybe even Bart?
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: No, it's it's Millhouse. Yeah, looking at a bush jacket.
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: Yeah, this is not really answering training and training in
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: Maniac's question, because it was a joke that I got,
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: but I can understand that it's like that's a little
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: bit unusual or out there or from left field, and
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: it is a joke that I got. So I'm not
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: really answer your question. Training sorry about that, but I
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: always just thought, yeah, it's just a joke that I
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: thought was yeah, really really funny. But also it's hard
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: to explain why. I mean, of course you can explain why.
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: You can break down why it works. Oh, it's very
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: unusual for this child to be saying that's all. It's
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: unusual about to be wearing a Bob Mackie. It's unusually wow,
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: Bob Maggie, like he's the hot name in the playground.
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: There's jokes on the Simpsons that I don't understand why
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: I find them so funny, but I always quote them,
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: like Vira said that, Yeah, that tickles me to no end.
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: I don't really know why it's so funny.
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: How many times have we said on the show line
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: delivery means a lot or a funny voice means a lot. Yeah,
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: I mean, but yeah, as you said, look, why do
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: I always love it? Maybe looked at you on its face,
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: not even a joke, no, but ye, deliver, Maybe looked
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: at you for the virus that Robert, what a delivery?
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: Oh yeah, so yeah oftentimes, Yeah, it's just the way
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: your brain is wired.
