- 1:22SPEAKER_01: It's wonderful to be able to connect with you all on this level.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: I'm really loving it.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: Today I'm going to share on self-trust and more specifically on leaning into self-trust.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: Leaning into self-trust, particularly when your relationship doesn't feel like you want it to, or even if you're asking yourself, should I stay or should I go?
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: So leaning into self-trust when your relationship feels challenging.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: Firstly, though, what is self-trust?
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: When I talk about self-trust, I am speaking about a deep reliance on our own ability to navigate life to be okay, a safety and a certainty in our own abilities, our mental, emotional, and physical abilities to handle life.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: So self-trust isn't knowing or having all the answers all of the time.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: It's that deep inner knowing that whatever life brings us delivers us, whatever challenges we face, we will handle it and we will be okay.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: Self-trust is backing our own judgment and believing in our abilities, knowing that whatever life brings us, we are capable emotionally, physically, mentally, of handling it.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: We believe in our own ability.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: But what happens when you wake up and realize you're not happy in your life, in your relationship?
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: Maybe you feel like your partner's changed, and yep, they probably have.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: Maybe you feel like you've outgrown your partner or the current iteration of your relationship.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: Or maybe you feel that your partner can't quite meet you where you're at.
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: Maybe they never were able to, or maybe things have changed, and so you're feeling that they can't meet you where you're at, that they can't meet or hold all of you.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: What happens then?
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: In terms of self-trust, that can be really confronting and challenging because it feels like we've lost our compass a little.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: We question ourselves: have we made a mistake?
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: Is this a mistake?
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: And so it's a time when our self-trust is challenged, and so it's a time to really lean in hard on self-trust.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: It takes courage admitting your relationship isn't what you want it to be, or what you hoped it would be, or what you dreamt of.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: It takes real vulnerability and deep courage to declare to yourself and then potentially to your partner that your needs, your expectations aren't being met.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: So to declare what they are initially, and also to declare that they're not currently being met.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: It takes deep vulnerability and real bravery to say that something in the relationship needs to shift or change for me to feel into and stand in my truth, for me to believe in our ability to shift and change things so that those needs and desires and expectations are able to be met.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: And to not do that, to not declare those thoughts, feelings, or emotions, the fears, the expectations, the desires, to not speak out, to not admit to ourselves and then to our partner, to not speak there leads us to abandoning ourselves.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: So when we speak of self-trust, we also need to speak to or look at or talk about self-abandonment.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: Self-abandonment is making choices or not making choices, choosing not to make choice or choosing not to take action.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: Self-abandonment is making choices that are not aligned with our core values, with our truth, choices that are not aligned or behaviors that are not aligned with who we most want to be and how we want to show up in the world.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: So, how do we choose to lean into self-trust and choose not to abandon ourselves?
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: What gets in the way of our self-trust?
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: What holds us back from that deep sense of I will be okay, I know I've got this, I'm standing in my truth and in my power, I know I can handle whatever comes.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: What happens or what comes up for us that we would choose self-abandonment over self-trust?
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: There are a few key things that get in the way of our self-trust or our ability to lean into our self-trust.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: The stories that we tell ourselves.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: Maybe our inner knowing, our truth, wasn't accepted or was made wrong in the past.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: Maybe when we were a child or as a younger person by our family, our peer group or friends, by our culture or our society.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: We were told either overtly or we took on subconsciously a story that we that we couldn't trust our inner knowing.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: It didn't fit the narrative, it didn't fit the story or the way things should be or were supposed to be.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: So the stories that we've been told by our family of origin, our friends, our society, our culture can get in the way of our sense of self-trust.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: So I wonder, what are the stories that you've been told that you've carried or taken on and you are telling yourselves that lead you away from your knowing?
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: Maybe it was that you know someone else always knows better than you do, or that I always mess things up, or if I do X, Y will happen.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: And if I choose that, I won't be accepted, liked, or loved.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: That is one of the biggest stories that lead us away from our knowing and lead us away from our capacity to lean into our self-trust.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: The story that if I choose for myself, I'll be wrong, and if I'm wrong, I'll be excluded.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: I won't be liked, I won't be loved.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: And let's face it, as humans, what do we crave?
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: We crave connection, we crave belonging, we crave community, we crave love.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: So, what are the stories that you're telling yourself or you have taken on that lead you away from your ability to trust yourself, lead you away from the knowing what is right for you.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: Another key thing that gets in the way of our self-trust is avoiding inconvenience.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: Keeping everything nice and calm and happy, not upsetting anybody.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: When we feel our knowing that acting on our truth will lead to inconvenience, either for ourselves or for others, that acting on that knowing, leaning into our self-trust, believing believing our own truth and behaving in alignment with it, when we feel that that will inconvenience others, it will upset the proverbial apple cart, make things difficult for others or for ourselves, it challenges us to really stand in that truth.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: It challenges our capacity to lean into self-trust, to lean into the knowing.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: When acting on our knowing, leaning into our self-trust, believing deeply that we know what's best for us and that we can do hard things, if that will be inconvenient, if that will make life a little more difficult for either us or for others, we tend to avoid it.
- 9:34SPEAKER_01: So we become accustomed to pushing down our knowing and and going against our truth.
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: So we can abandon ourselves for the sake of convenience, for the sake of keeping everything nice and calm and easy.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: So sometimes leaning into self-trust is inconvenient, and choosing the conventional path, the easy path, the convenient path is a barrier to leaning into self-trust.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: Allowing our inner critic free, unfettered reign also undermines our self-trust.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: Listening to that sometimes harsh, oftentimes harsh, judgmental inner voice that we all have, allowing her to control things and drive your behaviours leads us away from our knowing.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: Our inner critic is there to serve a purpose.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: She's there to keep us safe.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: She's there to keep us in that, in that convenient, on that convenient pathway, right?
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: So to not push ourselves outside of our comfort zone, to not inconvenience ourselves.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: She's there to keep us safe.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: And while our inner critic will always be present, she I like to think of it as she is an invitation to get curious.
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: What is she showing up to protect you, in inverted commas, protect you from?
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: What is she trying to tell us?
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: What is she trying to gift us?
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: Know that she's taking a small nugget of truth.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: Perhaps there is something a little bit um not dangerous, you there's no tiger chasing you, but perhaps it is pushing you outside your comfort zone.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: So she's showing up, taking a small nugget of truth, but blowing it way out of proportion to keep you in that zone of comfort and to keep you nice and safe.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: So, how can you explore what she's showing up to keep you safe from, but still lean in to your knowing that you will be okay?
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: How can you thank her and release yourself from her to tune into your knowing, to lean in to your self-trust?
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: Our inner critic gets in the way of our ability to trust ourselves.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: Thank her for showing up to keep you safe.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: Get curious about why she's showing up, what is she trying to tell you, what is she trying to protect you from, and don't let her drive the bus.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: Don't let her drive your behavior.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: Lean into your knowing, lean into your self-trust, tell her thanks, thanks for showing up, but I got this.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: Another thing that gets in the way of our capacity to lean into our self-trust is not being present.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: So regret undermines self-trust in a massive way.
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: Constantly rehashing the past, holding on to old mistakes or misjudgments reinforces in our mind that we can't be trusted, that we can't trust ourselves.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: Regret itself is not really the problem, but it's the holding on.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: It's the holding on to the stories, to the mistakes, to the self-blame.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: So leaning into your learning from past experience, practicing forgiveness, just as you would with anyone else you love and care about, that allows us to release regret.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: If we can look at past experience, mistakes, errors, slip-ups with compassion, self-compassion, then we can lean back into our self-trust.
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: And knowing that while you will make mistakes, we're all going to make mistakes.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: They're just one part of your journey and they're an opportunity for you to learn and grow as a human.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: So regret and worrying about the past, worrying about those things we can't change, keeps us stuck in our past stories and erodes our self-belief and our self-trust.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: It's a barrier to self-trust.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: So too is future tripping, worrying too much about the future, fearing what's coming, worrying and ruminating on what's going to happen tomorrow, next week, next month, next year keeps us from being present in the now.
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: Fairly obvious statement, really, but being present, focusing on the now can be challenging.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: You know, what about all those other things that need doing, achieving, the lists that need ticking off?
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: What about all those future problems that might or could arise?
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: All those things that you should be worrying about, should in inverted commas, the looming disasters and dangers that that are coming your way because you're not paying attention.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: Being able to move yourself away from that line of thought or that way of thinking is the ultimate in self-trust.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: Telling yourself you've got this here, now, you've got this, and that you will manage what's coming in the future.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: It takes courage and it takes practice.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: And a simple way to start exploring that and start practicing it is choosing your one best decision for now, for today, for this moment, and then the next best decision without getting too far ahead.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: So just choose your one best decision.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: Being present in the now, not so far ahead that you forget to be in the now.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: By showing yourself that you can handle what is, you can handle the now, you can make just one best decision.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: You're showing yourself that you can trust, you can absolutely trust that you'll handle whatever's coming your way in the future.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: You're building a bank of evidence that you can trust your own judgment, your own decisions by just making one best decision.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: So leaning into self-trust, reclaiming self-trust, deepening it, strengthening it, building it.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: It's done primarily by rekindling our relationship with ourselves, with knowing ourselves really deeply.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: What are your values?
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: What are the core values you want to live your life by?
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: How do you want to show up in the world?
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: What do you want to embody?
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: How do you want to live your life?
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: What do you want your legacy to be?
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: You know, all of that, all of that deep self-knowledge really supports us to be able to lean in fully and trust ourselves deeply.
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: And that self-knowledge also requires that we strip back the layers, that we take off the masks we put on to fit in and be accepted, to be claimed and included, to be liked and to be loved, to be accepted.
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: We need to strip back those layers and take off the masks, let go of the stories.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: Those stories that we've told been told by our families, by our culture, our friends, our society, and the stories we've taken on and continue to tell ourselves.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: So we need to ask what is the story and what is really me?
- 17:26SPEAKER_01: So to drill down, as I said, strip it back, get to know who you are at your core, what drives you, what lights you up, what are those core values that you want to live your life by?
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: Can you let go of the expectations and the shoulds and the ought-tos and really, really, really listen.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: Really listen to yourself, to your inner knowing, your inner wisdom.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: Strip out all the white noise of you know what you should be doing and how your life should look and get underneath to the essence.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: The stories and the masks, they have all served you to some degree.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: They've helped you make sense of the world and the way you move through it.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: But if you've got that niggling voice inside, that whispering in the night, that questioning, that voice is telling you that the stories, the masks, they're actually keeping you from yourself.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: So it's time to get underneath them to the essence, really get to know you, who you are, what you dream of, what you're calling in for yourself, what you want to create in your life, your purpose, your passion, your power, your light on a really deep level.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: Really get to know you.
- 18:48SPEAKER_01: Because it's when we know ourselves on this deep level that we can act and behave and show up in ways that align with that, with who we most want to be and how we want to move through the world, and then we can deeply trust in ourselves, we build on our self-trust.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: So that deep self-knowing is really important to being able to lean in and trust ourselves.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: And how does all of this apply in relationships when you're feeling challenged or you've woken up thinking this isn't it?
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: How do you lean into the self-trust that's required to face the fear that maybe this isn't it?
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: A challenging relationship is an invitation, it's an invitation to explore and know and understand yourself, to really peel back the layers and get to know yourself on a deep, deep level in all your glory and all your shadows, to trust that you will find your right answer.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: So a challenging relationship is an invitation.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: So how do we accept that invitation?
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: Spend time with yourself first.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: Make deposits in your own life.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: Deposits of time, deposits of energy, of effort, deposits of love and of money if that's what it needs.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: Spend time in your own company with yourself.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: If there are things in your life or your relationship that are no longer okay for you, if you're saying I won't tolerate X or Y in my relationship any longer, get curious about whether you're displaying those behaviours in your relationship with yourself.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: And what do I mean by that?
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: Um so if you want your partner to be generous towards you, where and how are you being generous to yourself?
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: You want your partner to be loving and tender and kind with you.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: Where and how are you being loving and tender and kind with yourself?
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: And what about if you're asking, is this it?
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: Should I stay or should I go?
- 21:15SPEAKER_01: No one can answer that question but you, and that's where self-trust comes in.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: You need to be able to trust that you will find your own right answer.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: Is your relationship structured on an old an old agreement that you've outgrown?
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: Oftentimes this happens as kids come along or kids grow and become more independent, things shift and your relationship is structured on an old version, an old agreement that just doesn't serve you anymore.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: Have you grown and changed?
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: Likely, yes, and yes, your partner has too.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: Or maybe your relationship was structured on some Something structured and agreed on something that never quite felt right for you, that never really, really reflected you at your truth.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: Feeling challenged in your relationship is an invitation also to question where are you abandoning yourself?
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: Are you holding on to your own truth?
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: Are you where are you not showing up fully for and as yourself?
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: Are there areas in your wider life and your relationship where you are abandoning yourself?
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: And that goes back to that deep self-knowledge, so stripping it all back and getting really honest and raw with yourself about what matters most to you and how you are showing up for yourself in your life, in your relationship?
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: Are you showing up fully honouring who you are, who you most want to be, what's important to you, what your values are, or are there areas where you are abandoning yourself?
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: What's your one best decision?
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: Just one.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: What's one best decision that you can make to lead you back towards yourself?
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: Where are you, or where do you need to uplevel your showing up fully for and as yourself?
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: Where do you need to uplevel that?
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: Would staying feel like you're abandoning yourself?
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: Or would leaving or disentangling yourself from this relationship feel like honouring your truth, stepping into who you most want to be, or would it feel like an abandonment?
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: If you're asking these hard, hard questions, trust.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: Lean in hard to self-trust.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: Feel it.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: Feel your trust in your body, your knowing, your feelings, allow it all to come to the surface.
- 24:04SPEAKER_01: Self-trust really does require us to feel it all, to be really honest and really raw and really vulnerable with ourselves, and it's scary.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: But so is staying in the self-abandonment.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: So if you're asking, what's next, what's my next best decision, even if you're asking, should I stay and should I go, it's an invitation.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: It's an invitation to strip it right back to your core, your values, what you most value in life, how you most want to show up, to drop the mask and be really brave and vulnerable enough to show up as the whole raw you.
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: And we fear doing this because it means we have to ask.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: We have to ask, will you still love me if I show you all of me?
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: Whether we know it or not, this is what we're really asking here.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: But here's the thing: unless we lean into the self-trust that we can hold ourselves, we can love ourselves whatever happens, unless we're brave enough and vulnerable enough to show up as all of us, we leave parts of ourselves behind.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: We squash them down, we make it small, we push aside parts of ourselves, we abandon ourselves, and then we wonder why our relationship isn't lighting us the fuck up.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: We wonder why we feel resentful, why our relationship doesn't feel fulfilling and connected and soulful.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: So, yep, it's a massive leap of faith, a leaning into deep, deep self-trust.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: And yep, it's scary.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: It's vulnerable, it's risky, and it's scary.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: It's saying, I don't want to pretend anymore.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: I don't want to wear the mask anymore.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: I don't want to hold back any parts of me anymore.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: And yes, that might mean that this relationship is no longer right for us.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: But it it might just mean that you both lean into what it could become.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: Yes, it means you need to be willing to risk it.
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: To risk your partner not meeting you, to risk your partner not accepting the invitation.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: Or you stay where you are.
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: Getting to know yourself, showing up as all of you means there will be shedding, there will be loss, and maybe that brings grief, but there's also a whole lot of growth.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: It's a journey of growth and expansion to our own truth.
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: Stepping into your truth, your power, your authentic self, yes, it asks of us a change.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: It means a shedding, a shift, a change, a letting go, a releasing in ourselves and also in our relationships.
- 27:11SPEAKER_01: So honor yourself here.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: Make that next best decision with kindness and compassion and gentleness, but with trust.
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: You'll either continue to create a version of yourself that fits into the relationship as it exists, or you choose to reconnect to your truth, to lean into the trust and become a version of yourself that leads you toward the relationship you most want to create.
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: By embracing you, all of you, the whole lot of women you are, by embracing your truth, trusting that it's okay, in fact, more than okay, to declare what you want, what you need, what you desire, what you crave, by uncovering and claiming that truth and trusting that whatever happens, we will be okay.
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: This leads us to the life and the relationship that we most want for ourselves.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: Trust that you'll be able to hold all of that for yourself.
- 28:17SPEAKER_01: So, lovely one, lean in, untell those stories, let go, drop the masks, lean in and learn all about who you are at your core.
- 28:29SPEAKER_01: Lean into the deepest self-trust you can muster.
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: Accept this invitation, accept your own invitation for expansion and growth because that is what the niggly feeling in your tummy, the nagging voice in the night is.
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: It's an invitation to grow and become.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: So trust that you know your own right path.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: Trust that you know your next best decision, your next best choice, and trust that you can hold all of you.
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: Lean into the knowledge, lean into the self-trust that you can hold all of you.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: Until our next episode, lovelies, go gently.
