Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. A bit later today, we're
- 0:07Speaker 1: gonna talk with C.
- 0:09Speaker 2: K Klith and the King of Pinstripes, Anthony, as we
- 0:13Speaker 2: are nearing opening day and I want to get their
- 0:16Speaker 2: take as they're launching their own Yankees podcast, and we'll
- 0:20Speaker 2: get into that.
- 0:20Speaker 1: There are six episodes in.
- 0:22Speaker 2: But before we do that, I want to rock and
- 0:26Speaker 2: roll today talking about this group chat disaster that Jeffrey Goldberg,
- 0:35Speaker 2: who was somehow invited into this really top secret they say,
- 0:40Speaker 2: no classified, but it should have been.
- 0:42Speaker 1: A top secret chat.
- 0:45Speaker 2: That the Defense Department was having over the Hoothy airstrikes.
- 0:51Speaker 1: And apparently.
- 0:54Speaker 2: He's telling this podcast The Bulwark that he's weighing I
- 1:00Speaker 2: should release more of this group text than he was
- 1:03Speaker 2: inavertly invited into, because he says he feels it's the
- 1:10Speaker 2: idea that we should take national security information seriously. Now,
- 1:19Speaker 2: I get he might be having to trying to have
- 1:21Speaker 2: his Watergate moment here and his.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Or I should say, Pentagon papers moments here.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Right, This is what it feels like all over again
- 1:31Speaker 2: in the digital age, though, but the Pentagon Papers was
- 1:42Speaker 2: telling us something we should know.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Here.
- 1:48Speaker 2: We're talking about plans to bomb an enemy, should those
- 1:53Speaker 2: plans be truly unraveled. I mean it could if he
- 1:56Speaker 2: does this, it could damage our national security by just
- 1:59Speaker 2: releasing these text messages and this transcript. Jeffrey Goldberg, this
- 2:03Speaker 2: is not the Pentagon papers in the digital age. This
- 2:08Speaker 2: is you take a manage of being invited in. You Okay,
- 2:11Speaker 2: you were invited in. They had a breach of security, YadA, YadA, YadA.
- 2:18Speaker 1: But now let's drop it.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Yes, the drummontician says there's not anything sensitive in there.
- 2:30Speaker 2: But if he does release more of this text threat
- 2:36Speaker 2: and transcript, this would feel like inactive treason.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Some would say it is Pentagon paper is part two
- 2:43Speaker 1: in the.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Digital age, but I would say this would be especially
- 2:51Speaker 3: if he names names and drops the whatever he claims.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Is in that chat.
- 2:57Speaker 2: As a secret stuff. This will put our country at risk.
- 3:04Speaker 2: And I don't care about the Atlantic's left leanings. I
- 3:07Speaker 2: don't care what Goldberg got to say. But when you
- 3:10Speaker 2: start saying you want to release more of a very
- 3:13Speaker 2: secure chat line that has some sensitive information, I have
- 3:17Speaker 2: to believe, even though the Trump missions are not, it
- 3:22Speaker 2: does weigh into treason, an act of treason which I
- 3:26Speaker 2: feel would be committed here if Jeffrey Goldberg goes ahead
- 3:30Speaker 2: and releases these documents, Okay, the transcript, I mean, shouldn't
- 3:40Speaker 2: you want the security of our nation to be safe
- 3:44Speaker 2: and locked up.
- 3:46Speaker 1: And not exposed.
- 3:52Speaker 2: You get privileged information, Okay, you leak out a few
- 3:56Speaker 2: emoji things and whatnot. You're talking some serious crap that
- 4:04Speaker 2: should not be revealed.
- 4:06Speaker 1: I don't really care about the US folks.
- 4:08Speaker 2: I'm more thinking about what our enemies will look at it,
- 4:11Speaker 2: like right, So if these information gets exposed to our enemies,
- 4:16Speaker 2: it would be almost like twenty twenty one when we
- 4:19Speaker 2: botch the Afghanistan with role because they'll see how weak
- 4:25Speaker 2: even our security into group texts is.
- 4:34Speaker 1: God forbid, and I say, hacking into it.
- 4:38Speaker 2: So, Jeffrey Goldberg, you're not really doing journalistic work. If
- 4:41Speaker 2: you release this stuff, you're actually damaging national security. And again,
- 4:46Speaker 2: I don't care about his ties and feelings toward the left.
- 4:51Speaker 2: I care about how he's protecting this information as a
- 4:55Speaker 2: person who's an American first, and confidentiality second. He was
- 5:08Speaker 2: very much invited by Mike Waltz and I still don't
- 5:11Speaker 2: know why, but it was very much confidential information.
- 5:18Speaker 1: And is in confinentiality and sources a thing.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I mean, remember back in the day, everybody was claiming
- 5:24Speaker 2: they had sources, but no one would reveal them for
- 5:28Speaker 2: protecting their sources. Well, this would not be protecting their source,
- 5:34Speaker 2: your source, Jeffrey Goldberg. This would be exposing not only
- 5:36Speaker 2: your source as already has, but it also exposes are
- 5:47Speaker 2: plans that enemies should not know. And I think if
- 5:55Speaker 2: you release these, Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic, you are
- 6:00Speaker 2: actually and I just had the term in front of
- 6:05Speaker 2: me just a second ago, but what you're actually doing
- 6:11Speaker 2: is you're putting your country at risk by trying to
- 6:15Speaker 2: be this journalistic hero.
- 6:18Speaker 1: So now it's not the time to be a hero.
- 6:20Speaker 2: I get the Pentagon papers, I get that whole thing,
- 6:24Speaker 2: and maybe you're trying to be that guy.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Now, but.
- 6:32Speaker 2: This feels so much more complicated.
- 6:37Speaker 1: And some say, well, thank god I didn't release it
- 6:39Speaker 1: before the attack.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Sure, but now that it's out there and you've had
- 6:46Speaker 2: your time, let it be. You might be holding keys
- 6:53Speaker 2: to some national security secrets. That's true, but wouldn't you,
- 6:58Speaker 2: for the betterment of the country want to keep that
- 7:04Speaker 2: top secret? And I get you have a First Amendment right,
- 7:12Speaker 2: and I get you were wrongfully invited in. But to
- 7:19Speaker 2: take it another step and releasing more in fact, the
- 7:23Speaker 2: full transcript, which could have some real implications, that's an
- 7:30Speaker 2: act of treason.
- 7:34Speaker 1: So have one leg up for journalists.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Protect journalistic integrity by protecting these texts, and we can
- 7:48Speaker 2: move on. For the betterment of the country. I think
- 7:53Speaker 2: it's better to just all right, did your journalistics and
- 7:56Speaker 2: duty you said, how, well, there was a glitch a
- 8:01Speaker 2: breach that you were allowed in. But let's not go
- 8:09Speaker 2: further and say, well, here's what's actually in.
- 8:11Speaker 1: The text threat.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Because there might be some real national security issues in
- 8:21Speaker 2: there that should not be released.
- 8:26Speaker 1: And just the whole idea of releasing war plans.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Texts, it doesn't sound very American. And Okay, if you're
- 8:42Speaker 2: a disgruntled military guy or you know nsa guy like
- 8:47Speaker 2: Edward Snowan or Chelsea Manning, Okay, you're disgruntled, you're releasing
- 8:50Speaker 2: all that information. But you're supposed to be a journalist,
- 8:54Speaker 2: Jeffrey Goldberg.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Not not a leaker. You're supposed to have the highest
- 9:05Speaker 1: journalistic integrity.
- 9:07Speaker 2: So protect your integrity and the integrity of the Defense
- 9:10Speaker 2: Department and the integrity of our nation by keeping those
- 9:14Speaker 2: texts confidential and show other journalists to have one leg
- 9:21Speaker 2: up in journalism by that example of confidentiality of sources,
- 9:30Speaker 2: of realizing the national security threat that you could.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Have if you release these texts. That's my thought for now.
- 9:42Speaker 2: On One Leg Up with Alex Garrett, we'll see how
- 9:44Speaker 2: it unfolds. And again see Kalith and the King of
- 9:50Speaker 2: Benschhepes raining me a bit later to talk about baseball
- 9:53Speaker 2: on the One Leg Up Network.
- 9:55Speaker 1: We'll talk to you soon
