- 0:00Speaker 1: We're going to head to Catherine right now because unfortunately
- 0:03Speaker 1: it's going to step further, and I believe Carrie from
- 0:06Speaker 1: the Beauty Bar joins me on the line.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Now, good morning, carry Hi Katie. What happened last night?
- 0:13Speaker 3: Oh? This whole town is an absolute shambles. We've had
- 0:17Speaker 3: fifteen businesses broken into, myself included. This is now the
- 0:22Speaker 3: fourth time. Yeah that everyone, all the business owners in
- 0:27Speaker 3: the main street are just so upset and just yeah,
- 0:32Speaker 3: what can we do? We just we need more police,
- 0:34Speaker 3: We need something done with these because I'm a small
- 0:37Speaker 3: business owner and you know, with what the the pressures
- 0:43Speaker 3: that the government's putting on us as business owners is enough,
- 0:46Speaker 3: let alone these break ins on top of it, what's
- 0:48Speaker 3: going to happen to our regional towns?
- 0:50Speaker 2: Carrie? So fifteen business is broken into last night?
- 0:55Speaker 3: Yes?
- 0:56Speaker 2: Yes, oh mate, how are you feeling this? Mon What
- 1:00Speaker 2: damage has been done?
- 1:05Speaker 3: Multiple windows smashed everywhere, trash shops, It's just ludicrous.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Oh my goodness.
- 1:15Speaker 1: So you've had Look how extensive is the damage at
- 1:19Speaker 1: the Beauty Bar?
- 1:21Speaker 3: So every room has been They've just trashed every room basically,
- 1:28Speaker 3: you know, like I've got some expensive equipment in here.
- 1:31Speaker 3: I have been working so hard for to be able
- 1:35Speaker 3: to provide such a great service to this town of Catherine.
- 1:38Speaker 3: And you know, there's just bits of my equipment everywhere.
- 1:44Speaker 3: They've smashed things, they've taken things, They've sat in my
- 1:49Speaker 3: pedicued chairs with a beer getting their drinking beer. Yeah.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Oh, you must be absolutely devastated.
- 2:01Speaker 3: So devastated. Devastated doesn't even cover it. Like I have
- 2:04Speaker 3: been working at my business for twelve years now, and
- 2:09Speaker 3: you know, and this is what it is. What's the
- 2:12Speaker 3: go Katie? What do we do? Oh? Mate?
- 2:15Speaker 1: I I feel quite really quite sad and emotional hearing
- 2:19Speaker 1: what you're saying, because I can only imagine, you know,
- 2:24Speaker 1: how many pedicures you've had to do, how many different
- 2:28Speaker 1: treatments you've had to do, the hard work that you've
- 2:31Speaker 1: put into that business to serve the community of Catherine,
- 2:35Speaker 1: and then to have somebody come in or people come
- 2:38Speaker 1: in and treat it in that way would be devastating.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Not only that, Katie, We've got multiple functions going on
- 2:46Speaker 3: in town this weekend. We've got a whole bunch of
- 2:49Speaker 3: station girls haven't been in town for months. They've all
- 2:52Speaker 3: had appointments book and we've just had to cancel them all. Mt.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Oh it's not just me, it's it's clients. You know.
- 3:03Speaker 3: It's just horrible. It's just a complete role on effect.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Was it captured on CCTV?
- 3:10Speaker 3: Yes? Absolutely?
- 3:12Speaker 2: What did you say in.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Four offenders breaking in? And then they've also taken the
- 3:19Speaker 3: cameras at the end and we're still yet to locate
- 3:23Speaker 3: the cameras.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Oh my god, Carrie, what what is going to be
- 3:30Speaker 1: the process for you today?
- 3:31Speaker 3: Now?
- 3:32Speaker 1: So you've had to cancel all of your bookings that
- 3:34Speaker 1: you had in today.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Have you yes?
- 3:37Speaker 1: Yes?
- 3:37Speaker 3: Now, as a small business owner, I've got to pay
- 3:40Speaker 3: way just to my staff. I've got two staff members
- 3:42Speaker 3: just standing around here now and I've still got to
- 3:45Speaker 3: pay them with no money coming into the business. And
- 3:51Speaker 3: it's a struggle. It's an absolute struggle. And why should
- 3:55Speaker 3: we keep going a small business owners? What's going on
- 3:59Speaker 3: in parliament? They worrying about babing Carrie?
- 4:03Speaker 2: What is your message for you know?
- 4:04Speaker 1: We actually we had the Minister for Small Business in
- 4:07Speaker 1: the studio a short time ago. I wasn't aware of
- 4:10Speaker 1: what had gone on, or we would have told him
- 4:12Speaker 1: about it. But what is your message for him? For
- 4:15Speaker 1: the other parliamentarians. You know, look, what do you want
- 4:19Speaker 1: them to know as a small business owner today?
- 4:23Speaker 3: They need to come down and see the damaging effects
- 4:27Speaker 3: it's having on small business, the mental state that's putting
- 4:30Speaker 3: us through as well. They need to come down. They
- 4:34Speaker 3: need to help us. They need to do something.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Carrie, do you have any idea how much this break
- 4:41Speaker 1: in is going to cost you and your business?
- 4:45Speaker 3: Well, I'll just let you know. My laser machine, for example,
- 4:48Speaker 3: they just purchased. Last year's cost one hundred and seventy grand.
- 4:54Speaker 2: What did they do to it?
- 4:57Speaker 3: That's just the beginning. Let alone, Let alone all the
- 5:01Speaker 3: other businesses in the street that have been damaged.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Oh, Carrie, I feel really heartbroken for you. Hey, it's
- 5:12Speaker 1: you know. The thing that I find so upsetting about
- 5:15Speaker 1: the whole situation is it seems that there is an
- 5:17Speaker 1: element of the community who thinks that it's okay to
- 5:20Speaker 1: break into other people's businesses.
- 5:22Speaker 2: They see it as.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Being a bit of fun, and the flow on effect
- 5:26Speaker 1: to you as a business owner is absolutely devastating.
- 5:31Speaker 3: It is absolutely devastating, Katie. What makes it worse is
- 5:34Speaker 3: we've actually got three offenders that have been located and
- 5:38Speaker 3: found and brought back to the salon. They're currently sitting
- 5:40Speaker 3: in the salon. I've just questioned them and they don't
- 5:42Speaker 3: even care. They're just looking at me with blank looks.
- 5:45Speaker 2: So they're there now.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Yep, yep, they're in the salon right now.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Are the police there as well?
- 5:51Speaker 3: Now?
- 5:52Speaker 1: Yep?
- 5:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:54Speaker 1: They don't appear to be upset, worried in any way,
- 5:59Speaker 1: nothing at all.
- 6:00Speaker 3: It's like talking to a brick wall.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Oh my god, Carry, I I can't even, like, honestly,
- 6:08Speaker 1: I can't imagine the emotions that are going through you
- 6:10Speaker 1: at this point in time. You'd be angry, you'd be sad,
- 6:13Speaker 1: you'd just be absolutely at your wits end.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Despare just complete despair.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Carry.
- 6:20Speaker 3: I just been telling this. There's actually ten eleven year olds.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, ten eleven year olds have been involved
- 6:28Speaker 1: in this what's gone on last night?
- 6:31Speaker 3: Sorry? Two ten year olds and an eleven year old.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Two ten year olds.
- 6:37Speaker 3: I'm sitting in the salon right now.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Oh honestly, Carrie, I can't. I can hardly believe what
- 6:44Speaker 1: I'm hearing My kids at that age, like I can't.
- 6:48Speaker 2: I just you can't believe it. What's going on at
- 6:51Speaker 2: the moment.
- 6:52Speaker 3: That is, well, I've just questioned one and said to
- 6:55Speaker 3: one of them, where's your parents? And apparently he doesn't
- 6:57Speaker 3: have any parents.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Carrie, I don't even know what else to say. Can
- 7:05Speaker 1: you please keep us, keep in contact with us, so
- 7:09Speaker 1: I'd be keen to even catch up with you maybe
- 7:11Speaker 1: again on Monday and just find out, you know, what's happened,
- 7:17Speaker 1: you know, after these discussions this morning. Well we've got
- 7:19Speaker 1: them in there and what then happens with the police.
- 7:22Speaker 1: So can we touch base again early next week if
- 7:25Speaker 1: that works.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Out for you?
- 7:27Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely, Katie.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Yeah, Carrie, we're thinking of your mate. If I could
- 7:33Speaker 1: give you a hard right now, I would. I'm so
- 7:35Speaker 1: sorry for what's happened to you.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you Katie Mank for taking time to listen
- 7:42Speaker 3: to me.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Yeah, no worries at all. We will catch up with
- 7:45Speaker 1: you again next week. Thank you, Carrie,
