- 0:11Well, hello and Merry Christmas to all of you.
- 0:14You are listening to a very special Christmas episode of
- 0:17Galaxy Crashes, the Busted and McFly Podcast.
- 0:20On this week's episode, we are revisiting Busted and Mcfly's
- 0:23very festive Christmas covers. I'm Shan.
- 0:27And I'm Tay and oh don't worry, all your usual favourite
- 0:31segments are still coming up too, so stay tuned for Quote
- 0:33Corner this or that and a special Christmas theme quiz
- 0:37this week. Oh, La La.
- 0:39How was your week? Yeah, it's OK.
- 0:42I have been away. I'm actually recording this
- 0:46episode from a little holiday home up in Bude, which is just
- 0:50that extra bit closer to James Bond because he lives in North
- 0:54Cornwall so it's nice to be in his area for a while.
- 0:58I love, I love that you're saying up in Bude when to
- 1:01everyone else it's down in Bude. Yes, I'm that far in the tow of
- 1:06the country that Bude is up for me.
- 1:09Yeah, we're, we're staying in this lovely little holiday home
- 1:12with my daughter and my parents and my grandparents, which has
- 1:16been really lovely. Unfortunately my husband
- 1:18couldn't make it because he's had to work because it's the
- 1:19last week before Christmas and he's just absolutely snowed in
- 1:22with trying to get gardens and plans finished for his
- 1:25landscaping business. So.
- 1:27But it's been really nice. Molly's already had a little
- 1:29Christmas, so she had a little like Christmas tree.
- 1:31My mum's put a little fibre optic Christmas tree out.
- 1:34Yeah, she had like yesterday was our like Christmas Day, so.
- 1:37She oh, you're going to have some photos.
- 1:39Oh I will, I've got loads. She had all of her Christmas
- 1:42presents from my mum under the tree and it was like Molly's
- 1:44first proper time, like opening presents, if that makes sense.
- 1:47Because last Christmas, last Christmas, she was only like 9
- 1:51months old, so she didn't really understand what the hell was
- 1:53going on. And obviously I was opening a
- 1:56lot of the presents like for her.
- 1:57Whereas this year she was actually like she understood
- 2:00what the presents were for her and.
- 2:02She was a Oh my God, that's so cute.
- 2:04She spread them out all day. Like we, that was, that's one of
- 2:07our traditions. Like we, we don't open all our
- 2:09presents at once. We literally like have one like
- 2:12every sort of half an hour hour. Like, could you imagine telling
- 2:15Aria that? Oh wow, I think most children
- 2:19would probably be like what the hell?
- 2:22But I think if I start it young, I start this tradition.
- 2:24Now she knows that she has to wait.
- 2:27I remember doing it when I was younger and I at by like the age
- 2:30of sort of like 5 or 6. I loved it because it meant that
- 2:34I still like 8:00 at night. I still had presents that hadn't
- 2:36opened and it was really lovely. My mum would.
- 2:39Do you remember time at each present?
- 2:41Yeah. Do you remember Autumn's second
- 2:43birthday? And we did all the birthday
- 2:46presents in the living room. And it got to a point where she
- 2:48was just, like, passing them away because she didn't care
- 2:50what it was. She was just, yeah, in.
- 2:52She was in the momentum of just opening.
- 2:55Presents and putting them down and the next one and the next
- 2:58one it's like a delay about. And that's like literally, yeah,
- 3:01yeah. All that we're trying to avoid
- 3:03with avoid with Molly. Yeah.
- 3:05So I want her to have time to play with what she's been given
- 3:08and like actually understand what she's been given.
- 3:10So my mum, I think she probably had about 10 presents or so from
- 3:15my mum. She had like 3.
- 3:17My mum's so cute. She's very crafty, my mum.
- 3:19So she make like makes a lot of things.
- 3:21She bought my some like wooden puzzles with like numbers and
- 3:24letters and like animals with things on and like, it's really,
- 3:27really cute. But the bags that she made to
- 3:29put them in are made of fleece and on the front of each back
- 3:33she's used my my mum asked me like a while ago for some of
- 3:38Macy's, like newborn clothes that I wanted to like.
- 3:40Keep Oh my gosh though. She's been making them into like
- 3:44a blanket, but she has saved some of them and she's like, I'm
- 3:48looking at one bag now and it's a blue bag and it's got ABC
- 3:51puzzles inside and it's got ABC cut out in some of her old baby
- 3:56grows. And I recognise the baby grows
- 3:58obviously, like looking at them. I was like welling up because I
- 4:01was like, Oh my God, these are like her newborn baby grows from
- 4:03when she was so tiny. So yeah, she's got a few
- 4:06puzzles. Her main present was a shopping
- 4:08trolley and a till, which she is absolutely loving.
- 4:12She's going round and asking everybody what they want from
- 4:15the shopping trolley and taking. Them.
- 4:16Oh my gosh, I love that. I love that.
- 4:20I miss that girl so much. For listeners that don't know,
- 4:25Molly is actually family to me. So Taylor, Taylor's baby is
- 4:30actually my family. And also this week Taylor was
- 4:34voice noting me and Molly said my name.
- 4:36And that's first time I've ever heard I say my name.
- 4:39And I genuinely, I listened to it about five times and Bradley
- 4:43came in the kitchen. Oh, shine, you've disappeared.
- 4:51Oh, are you still there? Oh, have I?
- 4:53Yeah. You disappeared.
- 4:54Sorry. Are you still there?
- 4:56Can you hear me? I'm still here.
- 4:58I can hear you 00. I don't know what happened.
- 5:01You you it cut out when you said Bradley came into the kitchen.
- 5:04So just do that bit again and I should be able to edit it in.
- 5:08And Bradley came into the kitchen and he started talking
- 5:11to me. And he was like, are you OK?
- 5:12And I was like, you know, when someone speaks to you, when
- 5:14you're in, like, a bit of an emotional state?
- 5:17And I was like, no. And the tears started streaming.
- 5:19He was like, what's the matter? And I just played it to him.
- 5:21And he was like, really? Men just don't get it.
- 5:27You just don't get it. Oh, bless.
- 5:31Oh yeah, she's so cute. Bless her.
- 5:32She's she's very, she's very good with names and things now
- 5:36she's picked up so many. She's it's my sister's birthday
- 5:39today, so we sent her a little video this morning of Molly
- 5:42singing Happy Birthday to her. Oh, which she loves, which is so
- 5:47cute. But yeah, she's a good girl.
- 5:49So yeah, she's, she's been really enjoying like having this
- 5:52little Christmas getaway. We went swimming today, we have
- 5:55a little hot tub and yeah, she's just absolutely loving it.
- 5:57So yeah, it's been a good week. What about you?
- 5:59What we've been up to. This week I've not really done a
- 6:04huge amount. I feel like I say this every
- 6:06single week. I've not really done a huge
- 6:08amount, but in I've done a lot of like mum admin, do you know
- 6:14what I mean? Oh, I get it.
- 6:16So, yeah, yesterday was autumn's Christmas concert.
- 6:20So it was a lot of yes. It was such a busy day for me.
- 6:23I went to the concert twice, once as a member of staff, and
- 6:28then we had food out because there was no time to go home and
- 6:34brought some Christmas cards. And then I went to it as a
- 6:36parent, which was actually a lot harder than I thought because
- 6:41people there were like, asking me to do stuff.
- 6:43And I was like. I'm not working.
- 6:45I'm not really working. I'm not really working right
- 6:48now. So yeah, so and yeah, and then
- 6:51I've got Arya's one tomorrow which is in school time, so I
- 6:55can't watch it. Oh, that's a shame.
- 6:58So I'm, I'm genuinely like flooded with mum guilt right
- 7:01now. But they don't even let you just
- 7:03like, pop out of your classroom. So I'm in her class, but I'm one
- 7:10to one with somebody that can't be part of it.
- 7:13Oh. I see.
- 7:14So you can't go in because you're with the child?
- 7:16Yeah, I get you. That's a shame.
- 7:19Yeah, I know. So it's been a lot of, yeah,
- 7:21it's been a lot of Christmassy mum admin this week because I
- 7:25have got not that I'm counting 1 1/2 days left of school and then
- 7:29I'm off for the holidays. And when I tell you that Santa
- 7:32hat is getting on my head as soon as 130 hits on Friday and
- 7:37it's not leaving my head until the 6th of January.
- 7:40I believe you. I know you too well to know that
- 7:42that's not a lie. It's not a lie.
- 7:44I am getting all festive up in your grill from Friday 1:30.
- 7:50It's. Got to be done, it's got to be
- 7:53done. It's time for this or that.
- 7:59Don't forget you can play along on our Instagram stories.
- 8:01All our templates are in our highlights.
- 8:03Make sure you tag us though when you share because we really love
- 8:05seeing your answers. And you've probably already
- 8:08guessed it, but we've chosen Christmas as the theme for this.
- 8:11Or that's this. Week.
- 8:12Well, why not? It is Christmas after.
- 8:14Not OK this or that. Be stuck under the mistletoe
- 8:19with Charlie Simpson only to have him disappear like it's
- 8:222005 just before your lips touch.
- 8:25Ouch. Or I know killer little dig
- 8:28there. Sorry Charlie.
- 8:30Or snuggle with Matt Willis watching a Christmas movie, but
- 8:34he's got pure pigs in blankets breath.
- 8:37So you've asked the vegetarian I.
- 8:41Know that's why I did it. I don't care.
- 8:43I'd have pigs and blankets breath.
- 8:45I'm not bothered. Oh, I love my Do you know what?
- 8:52I don't know, It depends. I like.
- 8:54I thought you were going to have an answer then.
- 8:57No, I really don't have an answer because I was going to go
- 8:59straight for Charlie Simpson because I cannot deal with bad
- 9:04breath. But I really, really, really
- 9:07love Matt Willis. Will you put up with it for the
- 9:09sake of a cuddle and a Christmas movie?
- 9:11Because. I don't know, I also love a
- 9:13Christmas movie. Maybe I'm thinking the snuggle
- 9:17is head above mine. Do you know what I mean?
- 9:19I don't have to smell it. True, very true.
- 9:22Thinking about the logistics of the of the snuggle.
- 9:25The logistics is head on chest. That works.
- 9:29That works for me. With maybe with maybe one of
- 9:32those like blue COVID-19 masks on.
- 9:36Watching the holiday with the Mr Napkins.
- 9:39Yeah. I like it.
- 9:41It was completely honest. I think I would agree because to
- 9:45be honest, I love Charlie Simpson.
- 9:47I really do. I just think it would kill me to
- 9:49just be that close to his face and then not actually be able to
- 9:52kiss him. Well, do you know what?
- 9:55I might have picked Charlie Simpson if he didn't remind me
- 9:57of 2005. You know what I mean?
- 9:58So sorry, but I have not let it go.
- 10:01I'm still bitter. Yeah, in the words of Elsa, let
- 10:06it go. It's.
- 10:07Never going to happen, Shannon. Stop trying to make it happen.
- 10:11It's never going to happen. OK, so my this or that is may
- 10:20may to some be a little bit controversial.
- 10:23So it is busted covering cheesy Christmas classics but making it
- 10:28busted. You know, like rocking it up a
- 10:29bit or writing their own Bublé styled album.
- 10:34All originals. Oh wow, that's a really good
- 10:38one. You said it wasn't going to be a
- 10:40very good one this week. I'm baffled.
- 10:42What am I going to choose? I know I never think it's a very
- 10:46good one when I'm writing it myself.
- 10:47I like it because we're obviously going to listen to and
- 10:50talk about some of their cheesy Christmas classics today and I
- 10:54love me an old Christmas song. I really love a bit of, oh, you
- 10:59know, like, do they know it's Christmas and a bit of Frosty
- 11:01the Snowman or like all the old school Merry Christmas.
- 11:07Is it wizard? Is it wizard?
- 11:08Yeah, that wasn't wizard, but yeah, yeah.
- 11:10That the wizard song, I can't remember what it's called, but
- 11:13the wizard one with the beers, that one, yeah, that's it,
- 11:16that's it. But equally, I love Busted so
- 11:19much I feel like they would be able to write some good little
- 11:22Bublé Christmas. This is what I'm thinking.
- 11:25You get a whole new album. Yeah, and I'm looking for a new
- 11:28Busted album. I really am.
- 11:30I'm gonna go with write their own Bublé Bublé styled album,
- 11:33All originals, definitely just for the sake of new music and
- 11:35maybe a tour that comes with it. Because, you know, new music
- 11:38means true new tour. True, I would probably the stay
- 11:42the same because I'm not a huge fan of a cheesy Christmas cover.
- 11:49I'm a fan of cheesy Christmas. It's actually one of my
- 11:53favourite genres of music. Cheesy Christmas Cheesy
- 11:56Christmas A cheesy Christmas cover cheesy.
- 11:59Christmas. A cheesy Christmas cover is I'm
- 12:04not unless it's done right. Do you know what I mean?
- 12:06It's I don't want to not like it.
- 12:09I'd rather their own their own stuff.
- 12:12It's a tricky minefield, I think.
- 12:14Christmas covers, aren't they? It is if you're not Lily Allen
- 12:18covering somewhere only we know. I don't want to know about it.
- 12:22It's time for Quote Corner. OK, so being a Christmas
- 12:26episode, we thought that we'd try and find direct Christmas
- 12:29related quotes from the band. However, this proved a lot
- 12:32harder than expected. We've managed to find an
- 12:34interview however, where two of the boys talk about their
- 12:37Christmas family traditions, which we thought would be fun
- 12:41for you guys to know if if you didn't already.
- 12:44So we're going to start with Matt.
- 12:46Matt and Emma Willis and their three children wear the same
- 12:49pyjamas on Christmas Eve. He had a little interview with
- 12:53BANG Showbiz, it was called and he was talking about what they
- 12:56do, so it says here. The Busted Basis admits he
- 12:59enjoys unwrapping the same sleepwear as his wife and their
- 13:02kids Isabelle, Ace and seven-year old Trixie because
- 13:05the 24th of December tradition marks the start of their festive
- 13:08celebrations. Matt told BANG Showbiz We all
- 13:11get matching pyjamas on Christmas Eve, which I do enjoy.
- 13:14Everyone unwraps them on Christmas Eve and puts them on.
- 13:17Now I am here for the matching pyjamas.
- 13:21My husband, however, is not. Well do you know what?
- 13:25We've never done it because I assumed Bradley was not.
- 13:28And then literally 2 days ago I said to him, how would you feel
- 13:31if I bought as matching pyjamas? And he was like, I've been
- 13:34waiting nine years for you to ask that question.
- 13:36And I was like Bradley. Put a ring.
- 13:39On it, to my ears, literally. You don't even have to put ring
- 13:42on it anymore because that is the ring.
- 13:44Christmas pyjamas every year. Why did I not know that you
- 13:48wanted to do this? Yeah.
- 13:49That is the best thing ever. Well, so this will be our first
- 13:51year. I do say Jack is not, I mean he
- 13:54doesn't really do pyjamas, he does like T-shirts and joggers
- 13:57and he goes to bed in just his T-shirt, so he doesn't really
- 14:00wear pyjamas. He runs quite warm so it's not
- 14:03really something that he would wear.
- 14:04However, I did manage to convince him to wear matching
- 14:07pyjamas for Molly's first Christmas last year.
- 14:10So I do have a picture of me, Jack and Molly and I'm matching
- 14:13pyjamas. However, I was trying to get the
- 14:14dog in as well and it was very blurry, so not really a.
- 14:17Very good picture. But I do have one for the books
- 14:20and I didn't have to convince him quite a lot to put it on.
- 14:23But he also did wear the same pyjamas as the that year and the
- 14:28same as me on The Polar Express. Because I did say I was.
- 14:30Just about to say, did he wear them on The Polar Express?
- 14:32Shannon, he was literally like, I'm not wearing pyjamas on a on
- 14:35The Polar Express. I'm going to look ridiculous.
- 14:37I said Jack, you will be the only one that.
- 14:39You're not. In pyjamas, like you need to
- 14:41wear the pyjamas, I said. Have you seen the film?
- 14:44They're all wearing pyjamas. Is this the whole point of this?
- 14:48So thank goodness I did manage to convince him because he would
- 14:51have looked ridiculous because every single.
- 14:52Person. Was wearing pyjamas.
- 14:54So I appreciate you, Matt Willis, and your family's
- 14:57tradition because I'm trying to get it to be a yearly thing in
- 15:01my house, too. Trying to build it in your own.
- 15:03But he did actually talk a little bit more.
- 15:05Do you want to talk about the rest of the interview with Matt?
- 15:08Oh, yeah. So he also says, well, I don't
- 15:11really have any other traditions, but Santa puts a
- 15:15present at the end of the bed for the kids, which you did for
- 15:17me when I was a kid. And now they wake up in their
- 15:19bedrooms and they have a present, which is supposed to
- 15:22stop them from coming in to us too early.
- 15:24But it doesn't, obviously, obviously can.
- 15:28I can't imagine doing that to mine because my kids would just
- 15:30do, you know what they would do? I'd put a present at the end of
- 15:32the bed and they'd come into my room to open.
- 15:35It open it. Like they wouldn't open it in
- 15:38silence in their own room. I love that.
- 15:40Oh my God, to say what was your like thing at home like when you
- 15:44were when you were younger? Did you have Because in my house
- 15:47my my stocking from Santa was always hung on the door of my
- 15:52bed like my. Bedroom.
- 15:54Actually at the bottom of my bed, but on the door.
- 15:56So I'd wake up in the morning and, and would see it straight
- 15:59away. And actually I can remember a
- 16:01few times like waking up in the middle of the night and like
- 16:03seeing that it was full and just being so excited that I wasn't
- 16:07allowed to get up because it was like 2 in the morning.
- 16:09But it just LED in bed looking at it, thinking Oh my God.
- 16:11Yeah, I love that. So actually, 2:00 in the morning
- 16:15was probably when I was waking up because Oh my.
- 16:18God. Shannon No, no, no, no, not me,
- 16:21not me. Oh, right.
- 16:22I have a very She will be listening to this episode and
- 16:25she will know what I'm talking about.
- 16:28Very exciting I did, mother. Mama John.
- 16:30Who used to wake us up at like two or three in the morning.
- 16:35We'd come downstairs, me and my brother would still be half
- 16:38asleep, my dad would make us a cup of tea, we'd all sit around,
- 16:43have a cup of tea, my mum would sit there with a bin bag and
- 16:45she'd play Santa, passing around all the presents.
- 16:47And then it would get to 6:00 AM and we'd opened everything and
- 16:52then I would go back UPS. She'd say, right, take all your
- 16:55stuff upstairs and put them in their new homes.
- 16:57And I would go upstairs and I'd fall asleep on my bed.
- 17:00That's actually quite cute. Yeah, and then it might be like.
- 17:03Gross. 2:00 AM. But actually, that's quite
- 17:06sweet. Yeah, it was, it was, it was a
- 17:09really lovely tradition. And now I wake up before my kids
- 17:13here because like, it's that almost like butterflies,
- 17:16Christmas Eve, you know, kind of butterfly.
- 17:18Feeling, yeah. It's so different.
- 17:22It's different when you've got kids.
- 17:23Like it's, I think back to that now and I'm like, Oh my God, how
- 17:26did I ever do that? And even now I think about
- 17:29waking up before 5:00 AM and I'm like, are you joking?
- 17:32But Christmas Day I am awake at 5:00 AM and I I don't wake them
- 17:37up, but I still. Haven't like bubbly excited, if
- 17:41I cough loud enough they might wake up.
- 17:43Yeah, yeah, exactly. I think this is the first
- 17:46obviously like I was excited last year but like she was just
- 17:49too small. So there was no she didn't, she
- 17:51wasn't walking and she wasn't even really crawling.
- 17:53She was a really late crawler. She literally went from crawling
- 17:56to walking in like 2 months. She was not bothered about
- 17:58crawling at all. So really this is the first year
- 18:02where she's going to actually come downstairs and like, walk
- 18:05into the living room and see them.
- 18:06And it's really funny because my mum, bless her, like, tried to
- 18:09set up this little holiday home like this for Molly with the
- 18:13presence under the tree. And she's came downstairs and
- 18:16she sat in the living room with all the like, like lights off
- 18:19because she wanted to record Molly's first reaction to see
- 18:22the presence under the tree. But what my mum didn't do was
- 18:25turn the flash off on her phone. So what she actually got was
- 18:28Molly walking into the room and walking right over to the camera
- 18:31and going light, Gigi light, light, Gigi light because she's
- 18:35shining the torch at her. So she didn't even see the tree.
- 18:38She's just got this video of Molly just staring at the
- 18:41camera. You know what?
- 18:42If that was me, I'd be like Molly back upstairs with.
- 18:44Redo. It's so fun at doing it again
- 18:47but I am looking forward to that this year.
- 18:48We I used to take my stocking into my mum's room and sit on my
- 18:52bed, on my mum's bed and open. It.
- 18:54That's exactly what I'm talking about.
- 18:56Yeah. They give it to you so you don't
- 18:58go into them too early. Matt Willis.
- 19:00Yeah, yeah, it doesn't work, mate.
- 19:02I mean it, maybe it does for them, but it did not for me.
- 19:05I always went into my mum's bedroom to open them.
- 19:08So much fun. I love hearing everybody's
- 19:10little traditions. So the the last one, the last
- 19:14part of this, we did actually get a quote from James as well.
- 19:17And Charlie was in this interview, but he didn't have
- 19:19much to say about Christmas. Charlie not having much to say.
- 19:22What I know, what on earth? So finally, Mr. James Bourne,
- 19:26the man of my heart, he said. I play Mario Kart with my
- 19:29brothers and we watch a film on Christmas Eve.
- 19:32It'll probably be Jingle All the Way Home Alone or The Grinch.
- 19:35Something good. And you know what, James?
- 19:37So it sounds like a pretty perfect Christmas Eve to me.
- 19:39So invite me over already so we can hang out because I'm only
- 19:42down the road. I'm in Bude.
- 19:43Just give me a holler. I'll come over.
- 19:45OK. Thanks.
- 19:46Thank you very much. Do you know what I do?
- 19:48That we play Mario Kart and watch I.
- 19:51Love. Mario Kart we play, so we've got
- 19:53Mario Party and we've got Mario Party Jamboree, I think it's
- 19:56called, and we've got Mario Kart and we also have the new Mario
- 20:00Kart because we're such a liker. We love.
- 20:04Those are our Christmas games. You know, some people play board
- 20:07games and stuff. Yeah, that's what we do.
- 20:09We don't have a Nintendo. Yeah.
- 20:12Have an Xbox, we have a Switch. So we, we play a lot of Mario
- 20:17Kart over Christmas, like the whole period.
- 20:18It's not like we spend the whole of Christmas Eve on the console.
- 20:22We also this year we've just bought ourselves because this is
- 20:25going to be our second Christmas, just the two of us.
- 20:28Well, four of us, but like in the evening, just two of us.
- 20:30So we've bought a new pack of cards.
- 20:34We've got a couple of board games that are just the two
- 20:37player kind of ones. But yeah, But yeah, we're a
- 20:40Mario Kart family. And actually it's not really a
- 20:42Christmas movie. If you know me, you know on
- 20:45Christmas Eve I'm watching Gavin and Stacey.
- 20:50Obviously, I've actually already done all of the Gavin and Stacey
- 20:53Christmas specials this year. Done them once, put my Christmas
- 20:56tree up. Yeah, that's what I do.
- 20:57I do, I, So normally I do it when I'm wrapping my Christmas
- 21:00presents on Christmas Eve. But this year I did it when I
- 21:03put my Christmas tree up and I finished them and I was like, Oh
- 21:05no, what am I going to do when I, when I wrap my presents?
- 21:09But obviously I'm just going to rewatch them.
- 21:12I know exactly. I don't know why I'm questioning
- 21:13myself. Obviously rewatched again.
- 21:16I also didn't watch them with Jack and he loves a bit of Gavin
- 21:18Stacey. So that's definitely going to
- 21:20be. I was going to ask you because
- 21:22obviously James Bond mentioning this what your favourite
- 21:26Christmas movie is. Why would you like so I just.
- 21:31Said such a hard favourite. One of my favourite genres of
- 21:34music is Cheesy Christmas. One of my favourite genres of
- 21:37moves movies, a Christmas movies.
- 21:42I would say I've got a top three, all for different
- 21:48reasons. I.
- 21:50Have to say elf. Oh.
- 21:52God, it's so good. So funny, so funny.
- 21:57So good never gets. Off.
- 21:59Yeah, exactly. So that's like my favourite,
- 22:01like, comedy Christmas movie. And it's so, so quotable.
- 22:06Do you know how often I go? Santa, I love you.
- 22:10I love you. I love you.
- 22:10I love you. You've done that to me so many
- 22:13times. I do it all the time.
- 22:16My favourite. Like cheesy lovey Christmas
- 22:20movie love. Actually, I could watch that
- 22:22once a week. Yeah, I love that.
- 22:24I love. It although, like you look at it
- 22:27now and you're like, this is a movie about fat shaming and
- 22:31sexual discipline, but yeah, it's.
- 22:36Pretty bad, but it's the IT was like, what, early naughties?
- 22:39Yeah, exactly what? Happened.
- 22:41It's just the way life was back then.
- 22:43Yeah, exactly. And my third, my favourite
- 22:47animated controversial Arthur Christmas.
- 22:50Oh, I'm saying it only seen Arthur Christmas once.
- 22:54Oh my God it's so good. I watch every year with the
- 22:57girls. I think my my least favourite.
- 22:59This year, yeah. I will tell you my least
- 23:01favourite, and I think I'm going to lose a lot of friends for
- 23:05saying this. Polar Express.
- 23:09Oh, Shannon. I mean, it's not a favourite of
- 23:11mine, but Katie will hate you forever.
- 23:14My sister and your cousin, she will hate you forever because I
- 23:19when we when we did the Polo Express train, she was more
- 23:22excited than the kids. I'm not even.
- 23:23Going to I bet she was singing hot chocolate.
- 23:25Oh yeah, and she was very, very excited the whole time.
- 23:28She was just like smiling ear to ear.
- 23:30She was loving life. Do you know what it is?
- 23:32I think it's something to do with the animation.
- 23:34I just. Don't.
- 23:35It's not. Yeah.
- 23:36It's a very like wooden animation, don't you think?
- 23:39Yeah. It's not soft, it's like wooden
- 23:42if I make sense. What's your favourites?
- 23:45Oh gosh. It's so hard to choose, but I
- 23:49don't think anything beats the Grinch for me.
- 23:51Really don't think it does. Great movie, original, right?
- 23:56Oh God, Jim Carrey 100%. I genuinely remember watching
- 24:01that movie over and over and over again with my sister when
- 24:06my sister was like maybe six or seven.
- 24:09She had it on video, used to have a video player, might even
- 24:13been, I think, yeah, it was definitely video, some little
- 24:15video player in her bedroom. So when I went to stay with her
- 24:18in Bristol, we just put the Grinch on repeat and we just,
- 24:20when we were like going to bed in the evening, we'd just watch
- 24:22it over and over again, literally just constantly.
- 24:25Definitely my top my favourite like romantic Christmas movie
- 24:29The holiday every single time. Do you know what?
- 24:33I think I would be a bigger fan of the holiday if I watched it
- 24:38more. I think I've watched it twice in
- 24:40my whole life. You were Shannon when I tell you
- 24:44the holiday over, love. Actually, you're missing a
- 24:47trick. I'm.
- 24:48Telling, you know what I think with Love Actually, for me, it's
- 24:52so. I used to watch Love Actually
- 24:54before I went to bed in like in December.
- 24:57We had it on DVD, that movie. Yeah, Yeah.
- 24:59And I watched it on DVD. And the problem with the DVD
- 25:02player back then is if you don't stop it, it would just restart
- 25:05because it would go to the menu. And I used to wake up in the
- 25:09night to my little drummer boy pointing, you know, the, you
- 25:14know, the scene where they sing. Is it all I want for Christmas?
- 25:18Mariah? Yeah, Mariah.
- 25:19I used to wake up to that bit every night and he was my
- 25:22favourite when I was a kid. I loved him.
- 25:26I root for him so much. I love that, but equally the
- 25:30cast of the I know I love Jude Law.
- 25:32I love Jude Law perfect and Jude Law plays the most sensitive,
- 25:37like cute, like oh, he's very much he's a widower.
- 25:40So he's like got two kids and he's like a widower and he falls
- 25:43in love with Cameron D has who, who comes over from the US and
- 25:46stays in, in, in his sister's house.
- 25:49And, and you know, Kate Winslet then goes to the US and stays in
- 25:54her house and meets Jack Black and then they, oh God, it's just
- 25:57it. Is I know I would love it, but I
- 26:00just need that. Maybe I'll watch it this year,
- 26:02because who doesn't love a Jude Law in like a chunky net?
- 26:07Oh, so good. And his glasses.
- 26:09His little. Glasses.
- 26:12I'll watch it this year. Is the scene with the napkin.
- 26:14He puts the napkin on his face and puts glasses over the napkin
- 26:17and sticks it in his mouth. And he like pretends to be this
- 26:20weird napkin man. And he's speaking to his kid and
- 26:23he's like, hello, I'm Mr Napkin Hen.
- 26:25And it is so funny. I don't even know why it's
- 26:27funny. It's Jude Law with a fucking
- 26:29napkin on his face. Do you know what I?
- 26:30Mean, this is what I mean. I haven't seen it so long.
- 26:32I don't know what you're talking about right now.
- 26:34Yes, so you need to watch it. So, so good, So good.
- 26:37Anyway, still waiting for my invite, James Bond.
- 26:39So just just holler at your girl.
- 26:42OK, let's move on because we've got some wonderful quizzes
- 26:45coming up your way. This quiz I pretty much made-up
- 26:53off the back of my head a few nights ago.
- 26:55I was sat there, I was like, right, we need a quiz, what the
- 26:57hell are we going to do? And I am sorry, but it's this
- 27:01rubbish. It's Christmas, everything is
- 27:04allowed to be a bit rubbish. I.
- 27:05Know it's okay. So there's two sections.
- 27:07There's round one which is busted or busted and then
- 27:13there's Round 2 which is busted to Christmas timeline.
- 27:16So it's it's not really a Christmas timeline.
- 27:18It's just a timeline to put put in order of things that
- 27:20happened. You put.
- 27:21Christmas. Because Christmas Upset.
- 27:22I see why you're coming. Upset and I do have an
- 27:25interesting fact for you to share at the end, is Christmas
- 27:28related. So no, we're going to start with
- 27:31busted or busted round one. Is this true or is it made-up #1
- 27:39Busted once released a Christmas jumper featuring their faces.
- 27:43I'm. Going to say I'm going to say
- 27:46made-up for that one. OK, I'm going to write this
- 27:49down. Oh wait, hold on.
- 27:51I have a busted T-shirt with their faces on.
- 27:55I'm going to say I'm going to say still not.
- 27:58I'm going to say still family. Stick with your gut #2 James
- 28:01Bourne wrote, wrote a busted song on Christmas Day.
- 28:06That's so James Bourne. Also so dedicated one.
- 28:09Absolutely. That's so that's that's such a
- 28:13like James Bond thing to do. Yeah, I'm going to say that
- 28:15that's true. OK, number 3C Simpson hates
- 28:20Christmas songs. I'm going to say that's true.
- 28:22He looks like a Bah humbug. #4 Busted have performed the year
- 28:303000 in Santa hats. Oh, this is so rogue.
- 28:34Because like, why would you make that up?
- 28:38I'm going to say no. I'm also like really notoriously
- 28:43bad at these quizzes, so that's probably right, but I'm going to
- 28:47say no. And the last one, Matt Willis,
- 28:49once spent Christmas on tour eating a petrol station dinner.
- 28:55That's really sad. I'm going to say made-up because
- 29:00I don't remember them ever being on tour on Christmas.
- 29:05OK, so we've gone for No, they didn't have a Christmas jumper
- 29:08with their faces. Yes, James Bond wrote a song on
- 29:10Christmas Day. Yes, Charlie hates Christmas
- 29:12songs. No for Santa Hat's EA 3000 and
- 29:15no for Matt Wallace's Christmas petrol station dinner.
- 29:18OK, do you want to know if you've got them right or not?
- 29:22Not really. Number one Busted once released
- 29:26a Christmas jumper featuring their faces.
- 29:28True, they did Balls so no, no points.
- 29:35Nil poir #2. James Bond wrote a busted song
- 29:38on Christmas Day. Yes he did.
- 29:40You are right, it is very very James Bond thing to do.
- 29:42Very James number 3C Simpson hates Christmas songs.
- 29:47You've gone for yes, the answer is busted.
- 29:50No, he doesn't hate Christmas songs.
- 29:52Have you not seen the video of him singing the Christmas?
- 29:55I think I even shared it on our actual page.
- 29:58Shannon, how terrible is that? No way.
- 30:01Didn't you share it on our actual page?
- 30:04I'm pretty sure you. Made a real.
- 30:07You do what the fans want, you know what I mean?
- 30:09It doesn't mean you actually like it.
- 30:11Come. On no he doesn't.
- 30:12He doesn't hate Christmas songs. He doesn't hate Christmas songs
- 30:15#4 busted her for four year 3000 in Santa hats.
- 30:18Yes, they have, they did it, of course they did.
- 30:22So no points there I'm afraid. And finally, Matt Willis once
- 30:25spent Christmas on tour eating a petrol station dinner.
- 30:28Yes, he did. Poor, poor Matt.
- 30:31So Shannon won, I think that was.
- 30:34That's fine. That's better than before.
- 30:35It's better than my first. Probably it's better than.
- 30:40You've got James Bond wrote a busted song on Christmas Day.
- 30:42You've got that one correct. Well done.
- 30:43OK. Because that's so James Bond.
- 30:46Yeah, are. You ready for Round 2?
- 30:48This one's quite tricky so I've written the list out for you so
- 30:51you don't forget them because it's quite difficult, so you'll
- 30:53need to be seeing it on the screen to help you.
- 30:55OK, there's no answers there. I've got the answers somewhere
- 30:57safe so don't panic. I need you to put these in the
- 31:01correct order. Earliest to latest.
- 31:04OK #1 MC Busted is formed #2 What I go to school for is
- 31:11released. Number three, first Busted Arena
- 31:14tour #4 Busted split up #5 present for everyone is
- 31:19released. Number six, Busted versus McFly
- 31:22tour #7 Busted reunion #8 halfway there is released and #9
- 31:28first. Oh, I've done that one.
- 31:30Sorry, first Busted arena tour. We've already done one.
- 31:32Take that one out, sorry, put 2. So there's 8 to choose from now.
- 31:35Which one do you think is the earliest?
- 31:37And then order them to the latest.
- 31:40I think I'm going to like speed around this.
- 31:42Go for it. I feel like I've got it, but
- 31:44also I'm not. My track record isn't really,
- 31:48you know, great. So I'm going to go what I took,
- 31:53what I go to school for was released first.
- 31:55OK, I'm going to say then Present for Everyone was
- 32:01released. OK, then I'm going to say first
- 32:06busted arena tour. Okey.
- 32:09Dokey. Then I'm going to say Busted
- 32:12split up, then Mcbusted is formed, Okie Dokie, then Busted
- 32:25reunion, Charlie wanted to cash in, then halfway there released.
- 32:35Yeah. Then busted verse McFly.
- 32:38I'm quite confident with that. I feel like you've done pretty
- 32:41well there. I really do.
- 32:42OK, so I need you to look at the numbers that I've written.
- 32:44So you know what? Order you've said and I'm going
- 32:46to read the answers for you. OK?
- 32:48Number one, what I go to school for is release 2002.
- 32:52Well done #2 Present for Everyone is released 2003.
- 32:56Number three first Busted Arena Tour 2004.
- 32:59Oh my God. Busted split up January 2005.
- 33:06Mcbusted is formed 2013. Busted Reunion.
- 33:11Busted Reunion 2015. Halfway There is released 2000.
- 33:1619 smashed fire. Busted versus McFly, 2025
- 33:20Smashed play. Smash the fucker.
- 33:23Maybe. Maybe that's what I need to do.
- 33:25I just need to speed round it from now on.
- 33:26I. Think that's it?
- 33:27Go with your gut, go with your. I am so proud of myself, I might
- 33:31put that on my CV. Oh, please do.
- 33:35So I've got a little fact for you, a little Christmas related
- 33:37fact about Busted. And you'll notice that in this
- 33:40order in the middle summer, I think it's from #4 you see,
- 33:44Busted split up January 2005. Did you know and our wonderful
- 33:48listeners, whether you guys knew or not as well, that Charlie
- 33:52actually released to the band, to James and Matt and their
- 33:56producer, that he was leaving the band on Christmas Eve?
- 34:01What a dickhead. A dickhead.
- 34:05What a dickhead. Oh, Merry Christmas James.
- 34:08Merry Christmas Matt. By the way, I'm fucking off to
- 34:10Fight Star because I can't be arsed to say and write these
- 34:12stupid songs with you anymore. Do you reckon he put it in a
- 34:15Christmas card? Do you reckon?
- 34:17Well, like a Christmas cracker. It was like they pull the
- 34:20Christmas cracker and the joke is the joke is Charlie's staying
- 34:25in. Busted.
- 34:27Haha, joke's on you. No I'm not.
- 34:30Peace out, motherfuckers. I just thought like, as I saw
- 34:36obviously January 2005 and I was like, oh, I wonder like how
- 34:38close to Christmas it was. And then it came.
- 34:40I was reading about it and he literally said he told by the
- 34:43time they'd done the press release, obviously it was
- 34:45January, but he told James and Matt and their producer on
- 34:49Christmas Eve 2004, so. What a word I should not say on
- 34:55the podcast begins with C. Christmas Cracker.
- 34:59What a Christmas. What?
- 35:01A Christmas cracker. What's the Christmas cracker?
- 35:06Oh, dear. Well, you know, we know that
- 35:08without Charlie leaving the band, it would have been a very
- 35:11different road for all of them. And who knows?
- 35:13Yeah. We would have had more albums.
- 35:16Exactly. But we might, we might not have
- 35:18had Mcbusted, we might not have had true versus McFly.
- 35:22We probably wouldn't have had the Halfway There album because
- 35:25they wouldn't have done a reunion because they wouldn't
- 35:27have broken up. Do you know what I mean?
- 35:28Very true. And controversially me, myself
- 35:32and I, I wouldn't have. I've had fight start.
- 35:33So you can take it. It's fine.
- 35:35It's fine. Exactly.
- 35:40It's time for Song of the Week, or should we say Songs of the
- 35:44Week? Yes, songs.
- 35:46Because this is a Christmas theme episode, we are obviously
- 35:49going to be looking at all the Christmas covers by both bands
- 35:52over the years, which include Mcfly's Rockin, Robin Walking in
- 35:57the Air, Deck the Halls and Santa Claus is Coming To Town.
- 36:02And busted last Christmas. And hark the Herald, angels
- 36:05sing. Yeah, some absolute bangers for
- 36:08us to talk about. So we're going to start with
- 36:09McFly first. Some.
- 36:11So OK, so Shannon has some very strong opinions on some of these
- 36:14songs and you'll notice that there's a bit of a theme with
- 36:17with whose songs she prefers. As we start, we are going to
- 36:23start with McFly. So let's start with Rockin
- 36:25Robin. Give us your rating out of 10
- 36:27and tell us your reasons. My, my, right now I've got three
- 36:34different ratings for Rockin Robin.
- 36:36I've got, I've got my Rockin Robin when it came out, my
- 36:39Rockin Robin as I am an adult and my Rockin Robin as a parent.
- 36:44So yeah. So as it came out, I'm going to
- 36:48say 8 out of 10 bloody loved it. Absolute banger.
- 36:53And then as they released new Christmas songs like, you know,
- 36:57walking in the air and stuff, I think it would have probably
- 37:00dropped like, a six. 6 1/2. Yeah.
- 37:05And as a parent, when I tell you I've listened to this song about
- 37:08three times a day since November, it's 10 out of 10.
- 37:12I love that, that makes me so happy.
- 37:14Do the girls love it? They love it.
- 37:17My littlest who's 4 she walks around the kitchen goon and I
- 37:25love the idea that this is the version of Rockin Robin.
- 37:28She's going to grow up. They.
- 37:28Know. Oh I was just going to say, do
- 37:30they know the original or they just know the McFly?
- 37:33Don't she's. So cute she's.
- 37:35Going to grow up and all her other friends are going to be
- 37:37like, oh, like that Jackson Fire song and she's going to be like
- 37:39what? Who?
- 37:41Who? Is.
- 37:42That Do you mean the McFly song? Do you mean Dougie's number one
- 37:47song? I absolutely love that.
- 37:50Well, there you go. 33 ratings. So an average of what, 8?
- 37:54Is that your average? I suppose, because 10-8,
- 37:58although you say 8. Yeah, 810. 10/8 and like a 6.5.
- 38:02South an average of an 8, I'd say 8 1/2.
- 38:04OK cool, cool. I'm I fairly agree with you.
- 38:07I think I'm probably more of a 7 only because, as we will find
- 38:13out very shortly, there's another song of theirs that's
- 38:16the Christmas cover that I cannot rate any less than 10.
- 38:21But I just love how much Dougie sings in Rocking Robin.
- 38:25It makes me so. 10 out of 10, isn't it?
- 38:27It's so. Watching the video of them
- 38:29performing it like our like live and Oh my God, I was just so
- 38:33happy to see him like properly singing because obviously we
- 38:36know Dougie sings, but Dougie's obviously more of the background
- 38:39guy. He's more of like the vocal
- 38:41backup, whereas we know Tom and Danny are front men.
- 38:44But to hear Dougie's voice just on its own with nothing else,
- 38:48just music behind it, like it's like Transylvania all over
- 38:50again. It's just so nice to have those
- 38:52moments. Oh, he needs to give himself a
- 38:54bit more credit, because he's got a banging voice.
- 38:56He has and it's so like it's unique.
- 38:59You know, when Dougie's singing, do you know what I mean?
- 39:01Like you can tell, obviously we we know Tom and Danny are very
- 39:05like diverse vocally and we know Dougie isn't quite as diverse
- 39:09vocally as they are, but he's still got such a lovely tone and
- 39:12I I appreciate it. I really appreciate it.
- 39:14So rockin Robin. I'm yeah, I'm going to go with
- 39:16the seven, mainly down to Dougie's fantastic little solar
- 39:20areas. But yeah, my next one is my
- 39:24absolute favourite. So shall we talk about walking
- 39:26in the air? Let's go, let's go.
- 39:29You go first. Very simple turn out of term
- 39:35because you know what? I like this song in general.
- 39:38Like the is it Ali Jones? Is that his name?
- 39:40I'm sure that's his. Name.
- 39:41Yeah. The original, I can remember
- 39:43listening to Alan Jones when I was younger and like watching
- 39:45the snowman on the telly with the fires and like a cosy
- 39:48blanket and it always made me feel so Christmassy.
- 39:51You know those things that like start before Christmas that make
- 39:54you feel really Christmassy? Yeah.
- 39:56Like the snow tingle, like the Christmas tingle, you know when
- 40:00you see the Coca-Cola advert with the this is coming, The
- 40:04this is coming, love that and that.
- 40:06This gives me the same sort of vibe when I hear this.
- 40:09Or when Michael Bublé starts to defrost, he starts coming out
- 40:13again. I feel like this with Walking in
- 40:14the Air. So the song itself was already
- 40:16quite highly rated because it is quite nostalgic in Christmassy
- 40:19for me. But my Lord above, can we talk
- 40:21about Danny for a moment? Yeah.
- 40:24Because obviously it's good all over.
- 40:27They all sing amazing. And the little guitar solos are
- 40:30so good. And like, the energy behind it
- 40:31is great. The section of the song where
- 40:35Danny just lies on the carpet and he and the cameras like
- 40:38panning over the top of him and he's just like shouting into the
- 40:42microphone. I was just like POV, like.
- 40:45Looking at him from. Above, I was just like, this is
- 40:48great. I just love how he's still
- 40:55singing. You know, obviously it's not the
- 40:57falsetto Aled Jones walking in the air, but he's still singing
- 40:59so high and he's singing it in his chest voice and it's so
- 41:02powerful. I think it just gave the song
- 41:05like a completely new feel. And that's why I love about it.
- 41:08They can. They've taken a song that's
- 41:10really soft and magical and, you know, gentle and la, la, la, la,
- 41:13la. And they've made it into like,
- 41:15yeah, let's jump. Around I completely agree.
- 41:17Yeah, I agree because my rate, my rating for the original is a
- 41:22one out of 10. Oh, you.
- 41:24Hate it. I hate the original, but it's
- 41:27not even we're like polar opposites here, aren't we?
- 41:31It's not even the I don't know what it is about the original.
- 41:36I think it's a bit of an earworm and I also think it's one of
- 41:40those songs that you, it's Marmite.
- 41:44You either love it or you hate it.
- 41:45And I really just can't, cannot stand it.
- 41:48And I love the snowman. We are very much Christmas Day.
- 41:53We watch the snowman, Stickman and Gruffalo all one after the
- 41:57other on Christmas Day. Love that.
- 42:00So I, I, I appreciate the song. I just don't like the song
- 42:04however. I mean, don't get me wrong, I
- 42:06wouldn't put it on in the car. No, you don't.
- 42:09Try and do your best, Ellie Jones.
- 42:11I'm not impression. I'm not pulling up at the
- 42:13traffic lights. We're.
- 42:14Walking in the Molly I'm head banging defenders in the
- 42:18background. I'm head banging to Mcfly's
- 42:21version. I will say though, if you give
- 42:25like you know, bear in mind my original rating for the song is
- 42:281 out of 10. This for me is 9 out of 10.
- 42:33Just because the -1 is because I don't like the song, the the
- 42:37whole 9 is specifically. For them.
- 42:40Danny Frickin Jones. Danny Frickin Jones.
- 42:45It's the, it's the rocking it up.
- 42:48It's that there's no high pitch. It's all, ah, do you know what I
- 42:50mean? It's amazing.
- 42:52It's. Like he is.
- 42:54It's like he's getting all his frustration.
- 42:56I'm not going to mention what kind of frustration, but it's
- 42:58like he's getting all of his frustration out on that
- 43:00microphone. Yeah, I get it.
- 43:02I'd happily need the microphone. I'm not going to lie.
- 43:05Take all that frustration out on me.
- 43:08I love it. I absolutely love it.
- 43:09And I do like the performance of it.
- 43:11I do like the video. I think it is cool.
- 43:14It does make it feel a bit more like it's just a bit more vibey,
- 43:18isn't it? Do you know what I mean?
- 43:19It's not as Christmassy. It's more like, Oh yeah, this is
- 43:21a McFly song rather than it being a Christmas song.
- 43:24OK, cool. So we've got a nine and a 10.
- 43:26Great. OK.
- 43:27Should we move on to Deck the Halls?
- 43:28I'll let you go first this time. Deck the halls I would say 7 out
- 43:35of 10 for me for deck the horse. OK, cool.
- 43:38Cool. I love it.
- 43:38It's good. It's just not my favourite
- 43:40Christmas song. It's not my favourite McFly
- 43:42song, it's not my favourite McFly Christmas song.
- 43:45It's just a good song. I think it's hard to follow like
- 43:50obviously I think deck the horse came out before walking in the
- 43:52air, right, because The Walking in.
- 43:53The air was. The young Was it young dumb
- 43:55thrills they did walking in the air.
- 43:57Yeah. Yes, I thought so.
- 44:00I think, but once you've got that to compare to which we've
- 44:04had for a fair few years now, it's very hard to to like it as
- 44:08much. Do you know what I like about
- 44:10Deck of the Halls is it feels so like, it feels so off the cuff.
- 44:16It feels like they were just in the studio.
- 44:20Maybe it was like break time. They're all eating their lunch
- 44:23and then they just start jamming together and then it's very, by
- 44:27the way, we recorded that. Do you know what I mean?
- 44:29It's. So I get that it's very
- 44:30acoustic, isn't it? It's very chill.
- 44:33It's very acoustic. It's got really like folksy
- 44:35vibes to it as well, which is one of the key things I wrote
- 44:37down it. It's almost like I always like
- 44:41it bopped to it a little bit. Oh 100% I mean. 100, I wasn't
- 44:45like when I would. I was listening to Walking in
- 44:47the Air. If you looked at my facial
- 44:48expressions, I was like, yeah, I wish we were recording video for
- 44:52this because you would see my facial expressions.
- 44:53Everybody can't. But, you know, you can imagine
- 44:55it. The eyebrows are furrowed.
- 44:57Yeah. Whereas Deck the Halls is very,
- 45:00like, cool. It's pretty chills, pretty
- 45:02boppy. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:04But I do like the little acoustic folksy vibe they've
- 45:07added to it. I think it does make it.
- 45:09It's better than listening to the original in my opinion.
- 45:12I can see, I can see them in, like a Hallmark movie as a band
- 45:17in the background. Do you know what I mean?
- 45:20Like, I can see them on like a Christmas market in some kind of
- 45:25movie. And this couple that are
- 45:27obviously going to fall in love at Christmas time.
- 45:30Just happened to me at the bandstand where this band is
- 45:33playing this song. It's very festive.
- 45:36It's very like, yeah. I agree, but I feel like that
- 45:39would work quite well. Maybe that's a trick that
- 45:41they've missed there. Maybe they.
- 45:42Need to. Well there we go.
- 45:43Just my luck 2.0. Oh, I'd be so here for that.
- 45:48Just my festive luck. Oh, there you go.
- 45:52I would get. I would agree.
- 45:53I'd give it a six, maybe even A5.
- 45:57I don't know. I know.
- 45:59But I feel like it's not even. It's not that it's what I'm
- 46:01rating it. If I'm rating just their
- 46:04Christmas songs, then yeah, a six.
- 46:06If I'm rating it opposed to like the actual songs, A5 easily.
- 46:11Do you know what I mean? I mean.
- 46:12No, I don't know what you mean. Because last.
- 46:15Christmas Herald coming up and they're like.
- 46:18Oh, don't give five. Don't give away how much you
- 46:21hate them yet. OK, the gig is up, everybody.
- 46:26It's very obvious that Shannon prefers Mcfly's Christmas songs,
- 46:29but I don't we all. It's hard not to when McFly have
- 46:35Mr Christmas himself. I know, I know, I get it.
- 46:39I get it. I last one is obviously Santa
- 46:42Claus is coming to town. I I'm not overly bothered by
- 46:47this one. If I'm completely honest.
- 46:49I like it. I liked the energy.
- 46:51I liked the, I mean, they did it for Tech Santa Rosa, which is
- 46:56the the one I watched rather than listening to it from the B
- 47:00side. I like the energy that they give
- 47:03it. And I think it's nice because
- 47:05it's a song that everybody knows and it's very much for me, it's
- 47:08very much like a kiddie version. Do you know what I mean?
- 47:12Yeah, yeah. Do you Get Me Out of all of
- 47:15them? I mean, although we're comparing
- 47:17with Tweedly Diddly D at the beginning, which I suppose is
- 47:23also loved by your children. So I haven't played it for Molly
- 47:26yet. I missed it this year.
- 47:29She will next year. Yeah.
- 47:32I think I'd probably mark it the same as Deck of the Halls.
- 47:34I'd probably give it a six, maybe just above Deck of the
- 47:37Halls, just because it's a little bit more like McFly
- 47:40rather than it being like acousticy.
- 47:42It's a bit more like energetic in a bit more them.
- 47:45Not, like I said, not overly bothered by the song itself.
- 47:49Not. Really.
- 47:49So I would give it like I would give it a 7, but not because I
- 47:55think the song itself is a 7, but it reminds me of a time as a
- 48:03McFly fan, like it reminds me of no worries.
- 48:06Do you know what I mean? It's very festive.
- 48:10No worries and no worries at one point in my life was my number
- 48:14one song. It would have been my wedding
- 48:15song and my funeral song all at the same time because it was
- 48:18like, So I would. I rate it high, but I think I
- 48:22rate it high for nostalgia reasons more than the fact that
- 48:24it's a good song. I get that.
- 48:26I completely get that. And I mean it's 2007 as well.
- 48:29So like, it's a long old time ago we were literally no.
- 48:35No, remind me how old I am. Literally says here.
- 48:38Released on the 3rd of December 2007.
- 48:42Grossed. Absolutely.
- 48:44Disgusting. So gross.
- 48:45So overall, McFly, you've done well, but we're still waiting
- 48:49for one more 10 out of 10 bagger.
- 48:51I mean, walking in the air does it for me, but I think we need a
- 48:54little bit more from them. What song do you think they'd be
- 48:56good at covering? Or Christmas?
- 48:58Christmas. Oh that's hard.
- 49:00Off the cuff question. Do you know what?
- 49:03Watching Danny sing Céline Dion on The Last Singer, he could do
- 49:09whatever he wants. It wouldn't make no difference.
- 49:11He could do Mariah. Oh my God, could you imagine?
- 49:15Can you imagine? I would be so down with all I
- 49:19want for Christmas is you. But you know, I would also
- 49:21really like I think they'd be really good at it because
- 49:24they're so animated. Is the song from the Grinch You
- 49:29know you're. Amazing.
- 49:29Oh my God, Mr Grinch. I think they'd be so good at
- 49:33that. Oh my God, that would.
- 49:34Be so like a rocked up version of Where are you Christmas.
- 49:37You know, she just, she just released that.
- 49:40Didn't she Tell her what's happened?
- 49:42She just released a have rocked up version.
- 49:45Used to love The Pretty Reckless so Oh.
- 49:47My goodness, so. Much.
- 49:50I used to have a poster of Taylor Monster.
- 49:53You make me want to die. Well, I'll never be good enough.
- 49:57Oh. My God you're bringing back so
- 50:00many memes. I say.
- 50:02My old boyfriend from school used to love The Pretty Reckless
- 50:06so I was introduced to them by him and I didn't even realise
- 50:11who it was for so long. It was probably.
- 50:15You love me XOXO. It was probably nearly a year
- 50:21before I realised that it was Taylor Mumson from the Grinch
- 50:25that I realised. And yeah, I saw the release the
- 50:28other day and was just like, girl, you know how to bring him
- 50:31in. They would.
- 50:32Smash that, they would smash that.
- 50:34They definitely would. Oh my God I'd be so up for that.
- 50:38So if you're listening any members of McFly lol.
- 50:43Come on, Hauser. Come on.
- 50:45Come on guys, we know you love us.
- 50:48Just give. Us a SO.
- 50:50Yeah, so, so give us a version please, of where are you,
- 50:53Christmas by the pretty. Record.
- 50:55I think they would smash that. They would.
- 50:57I don't have another one. I think that would be it.
- 50:59Or maybe something like I've got this image of like Tom and Danny
- 51:06doing acoustic. I really can stay, but baby,
- 51:10it's a Christmas that would be. So good.
- 51:15Do you know what, though? It would be Dougie.
- 51:17It would be Dougie they'd have to do.
- 51:19That I'm going to change it completely.
- 51:22Dougie and Matt, let's do the whole.
- 51:25Let's do the whole. Your guts in reverse.
- 51:29I literally paid to see that. Oh my God.
- 51:32If I didn't hate AI so much I would probably.
- 51:36I'd probably be like, it's not that I hate AI.
- 51:38I love AI for so many things, but when it recreates like you
- 51:43ask it to recreate like an actual person and the thing that
- 51:48comes out is just not that the. Amount of times that I've
- 51:52listened to a song on like I'll be scrolling Tick Tock and be
- 51:55like, Harry Styles does a cover of style by Taylor Swift and I'm
- 51:59like, really? That song is about him and I'm
- 52:01like, oh wait. Oh, wait.
- 52:03Sai and I've fully. Fallen for it.
- 52:05I did. I went to do.
- 52:07I was on Cam, not Canva cap cut the other day.
- 52:10Like there's a lot of templates and stuff on there and one of
- 52:13the templates was like you hugging your younger self or
- 52:16something. So I uploaded a picture of Tom
- 52:21in like 2005 to Tom Now just so I could say it was so bad.
- 52:27That's fine, because I thought you were going to be like.
- 52:29Oh no, it wasn't. Me, that sounds like you're such
- 52:31a cringe bag. Who do you think I are?
- 52:36You know, I know you've done that in your spare time.
- 52:38I'm I haven't, but I'm gonna. Oh my goodness.
- 52:42You know, I've just remembered. I'm sorry we are so off topic
- 52:44here, but we when we were at uni and we had that friend Jess and
- 52:50we were in the library and I photoshopped.
- 52:53Well, I say photoshopped. I like painted like the paint
- 52:57app my face onto Harry Styles's face.
- 53:01Oh my goodness, I'm going to have to find those photos.
- 53:04I don't remember because we've been in the library for 24 hours
- 53:07writing our dissertations. Yeah.
- 53:09And I all I wrote was probably six.
- 53:13Yeah. And then watched a couple of
- 53:15episodes made in Chelsea and then I pasted my face on to
- 53:17Harry Styles. Oh.
- 53:23Man, back in the good old days. Anyway, moving along swiftly.
- 53:27And then we should probably move on to talk about Busted songs
- 53:31now. So let's talk about Busted last
- 53:34Christmas. And hark the Herald, angels
- 53:36sing. Yes, the pop pop band Busted did
- 53:40release a cover of the Christmas Carol Hark the Herald Angels
- 53:44Sing, including it as AB Side on their single from their album A
- 53:48Present For Everyone in 2003. Now, I don't know about you, but
- 53:53I love me A Christmas Carol. I really do.
- 53:56I'm one of those people. Do you know what?
- 53:58Last weekend, where was I? I was in the Chapel.
- 54:00I was in the village Chapel and I was belting them Christmas
- 54:03songs, Shannon, because I, I'm not religious, don't go to
- 54:06church, but my God, there was mince pies and coffee involved
- 54:08and they were singing. I was there.
- 54:10Monday, we're going to a Carol sing along, Actually.
- 54:13Oh. I love it.
- 54:14We're going we're going to a Christmas tree farm.
- 54:17I'm going to do a Carol sing along with mince pies and mulled
- 54:21wine and. Are you going to sing Taylor
- 54:23Swift while you're at the Christmas tree?
- 54:26If you don't send me a video, if you don't get, if I don't get a
- 54:31video of you singing that song on Christmas tree farm, we
- 54:33cannot be friends. I have now got Sorry I know this
- 54:37is not Taylor Swift podcast but I have now.
- 54:39It's not as in what do you mean? Are you sure it is?
- 54:43I feel like we mention her every week, but I've now got my my
- 54:48youngest child to recognise her songs as well.
- 54:51And Christmas Tree Farm came on the other day and Bradley was
- 54:55like, oh, let's turn this off an hour.
- 54:56I was like, no, daddy, this is Taylor Swift.
- 54:58And I was like, yes, girl. Can I just say my not even 2
- 55:03year old can see a picture of Taylor Swift even as a cartoon?
- 55:07As in, like I've got pictures, picture books of Taylor Swift
- 55:10and she looks at it and she goes Tay, Tay.
- 55:13Love that. I love that we are raising the
- 55:15right kids. We are She loves the era's tour.
- 55:18I put the era's tour on sometimes as just a background
- 55:20noise and she loves it and chanted comes on and she
- 55:22pretends to be a Princess and it makes me the.
- 55:24Happiest in the world. Do you remember when we watched
- 55:26it and I had to film the whole thing and you looked at me and I
- 55:28was like, it's for autumn, It's the Princess song.
- 55:32Literally, literally. Anyway, moving on.
- 55:36I so I actually I knew. Obviously Bastard did and I
- 55:40remembered them doing Christmas covers and then when obviously
- 55:42when we talked about doing like a Christmas episode, I thought,
- 55:45oh, I need to do a little bit of like deep diving into what these
- 55:48Christmas songs. But I busted right because I
- 55:50haven't listened to them for a very long time.
- 55:52They came out in 2003 and it's not like they're played every
- 55:54year on the radio. Do you know what I mean?
- 55:55We don't necessarily hear these songs very often.
- 55:59However, I I was quite pleased with what I found and I know we
- 56:04have controversial opinions and your your opinions very
- 56:06different to mine. We've already had a little a
- 56:08brief chat about these songs. If you haven't, I had a big
- 56:11telling off. Yeah, you did.
- 56:13Yeah, God be more positive. Please.
- 56:16If you haven't listened to these songs, go and have a listen to
- 56:18them. They are on YouTube and it is
- 56:20actually the best thing ever. Watching them on YouTube in
- 56:23their original 2003 quality which is just grain and blur and
- 56:29closer you can't even see them because the quality is so bad.
- 56:34It's just brilliant. The last Christmas I think was
- 56:37performed on Top of the Pops I think I remember you saying
- 56:39earlier and they did a the video for Hark the Herald Angels is of
- 56:45a live show but the actual track is playing so it's not actually
- 56:48them. Singing is CDUKI think.
- 56:51Yes, it is. I I'm going to start by asking
- 56:56your ratings and what you can tell me what you I say did or
- 57:00didn't like. But we both know where you're
- 57:01going to go with that about the songs, because then I can sort
- 57:04of lift spirits after with mine, I think.
- 57:06OK, Yeah. What?
- 57:06Do you reckon? Yes, I feel that.
- 57:08Go on then, let's get ratings. So I don't like either of them.
- 57:12I said earlier. I said earlier, I'm really, I'm
- 57:17not a fan of like a cheesy Christmas cover.
- 57:21I think if you're going to cover a Christmas song, you need to
- 57:25make it amazing or you need to make it exactly the same.
- 57:29I think they tried to busted it up too much.
- 57:32I what I will say is my favourite of the two is last
- 57:36Christmas because I will never be a sucker.
- 57:40I'll never not be a sucker. Sorry for 2003 Matt Willis's
- 57:45voice. I live or die for that voice.
- 57:48However, what I will say the most, the positive thing from
- 57:52Hark the Herald, what I'll say is Charlie's range, his his
- 57:59range of like, you're a pop band, you're a rock star, you're
- 58:04a screamer. You're you also can melodically
- 58:09sing perfectly A Christmas Carol.
- 58:13What? Talk about bloody range and
- 58:17diversity. Yeah, right.
- 58:19I I give them both equally well. I give half the herald a 2 out
- 58:23of 10 and that too is literally for Charlie alone and I give
- 58:29last Christmas 3 out of 10. Can I just just dub you in a
- 58:33little bit there because is that your real?
- 58:36Is that your real rating, Shannon?
- 58:37Do you want to tell everybody what your real ratings are?
- 58:41Earlier I gave him a one out of 10 all right, but then I
- 58:44rewatched. I just don't want people to hate
- 58:47me. We're.
- 58:47Being honest with our listeners about what we.
- 58:50No, but that one is still only for Charlie.
- 58:53Like, I really did not like it. I think it was like it.
- 58:56Do you know what it do? You know what it screams to me?
- 58:58It screams right. We're in the height of fame.
- 59:01It's Christmas. Let's just throw someone out
- 59:03quickly. We'll get a couple of sales
- 59:05because we're so big right now. People are going to buy it
- 59:08whether it's shit or not. Yeah, I get it.
- 59:10And we did, because we. Did.
- 59:13I definitely had it. I can remember having it.
- 59:14So you know, it is what it is. It's no rockin.
- 59:17Robin, that's all I'll say. Wow.
- 59:19That's the McFly. That's the Team McFly in you.
- 59:24I disagree. I'm not going to be ranking this
- 59:27up there with the likes of, you know, all our favourite Busted
- 59:31songs. I think I'll give it like maybe
- 59:34a four, maybe four. Yeah, I'd say 4 because I do
- 59:39like it. I think, I think I would.
- 59:42I would rank Hark the Herald Angels higher than Last
- 59:45Christmas because I'm probably going to get people that to
- 59:49absolutely hate me. Now, as a rule, I don't actually
- 59:52really like Last Christmas as a song.
- 59:54No, I don't. Do you know what?
- 59:56I'm with you. I don't.
- 59:57I'm just not a massive fan of it.
- 59:59I mean, obviously it's Wham. Obviously it's cool.
- 1:00:02Obviously everybody loved Bam back in the 80s.
- 1:00:05We're not 80s girls, we're 90s girls.
- 1:00:06And actually really we're naughties girls because we were
- 1:00:08very, very young in the 90s. I think that.
- 1:00:11It's it's a good cover, they did a good cover.
- 1:00:14I don't think it's their best work.
- 1:00:15I think I understand what you mean about them trying to cover
- 1:00:18it rather than like turn it into something else.
- 1:00:22I think Hark the Herald Angels was better, but the first minute
- 1:00:27and 1/2 is what gives it a four for me.
- 1:00:30Yeah. I agree with you in that it's
- 1:00:33Charlie Simpson that's that's got that rating, because it's
- 1:00:36not that I don't enjoy James and Matt.
- 1:00:37I think they've done a good job. It was good.
- 1:00:39It was it was very busted. They, you know, they add the the
- 1:00:42guitar. You can hear the sort of
- 1:00:44electric guitar. It feels very Beach Boys like.
- 1:00:47It feels very like Beatles Y Beach Boys Y Like, why are you
- 1:00:53trying to make this Christmas song sound like I should be
- 1:00:56listening to it in the middle of summer?
- 1:00:58Yeah, I think I get you. I get you with that sort of
- 1:01:00vibe. It's not a Christmas vibe that
- 1:01:02they've given it. It's a busted vibe.
- 1:01:03But that's probably what they were asked to do.
- 1:01:05So they're just trying to people, please.
- 1:01:08They were just trying to make the listeners happy.
- 1:01:10I mean, This is why Charlie left, let's be honest.
- 1:01:13Well, yeah, true. He left literally because he
- 1:01:15did. He was making being forced to
- 1:01:17make this poppy, teeny, you know, PG rated music, music that
- 1:01:21he didn't want to do. He wanted to go to fight Star
- 1:01:23and he was. Forced to do what the Herald
- 1:01:25Angels sing. And like, let's not forget as
- 1:01:29well, like they were really young.
- 1:01:30This is 2003. Like they were really, really
- 1:01:33young. I mean, Charlie was what, like
- 1:01:3418? I mean, as an 18 year old, do
- 1:01:37you really want to be singing the Herald Angels sing on live
- 1:01:40TV in front of all your friends? Probably.
- 1:01:42Not exactly. Also, I think there's so many
- 1:01:44better songs that they could have covered that would have
- 1:01:46been so much. Like, imagine if I know we
- 1:01:47talked about earlier, but imagine them singing Slade.
- 1:01:50Oh yeah, it's Christmas. Yeah, it would have been better
- 1:01:53for them to have chosen something that was a bit more
- 1:01:55upbeat and like Rocky. Hark that old fucking Angel
- 1:01:59sing. I'm really passionate about it
- 1:02:04because I love Christmas songs and I love Busted and this is
- 1:02:07just not what I envisioned. It was the addition of the the
- 1:02:10swear word that just made that. So.
- 1:02:12Much better. Hark the fucking Angel sing.
- 1:02:15What on earth? It's just so funny.
- 1:02:19Sorry, I thought that. Was a knob head thing.
- 1:02:25Anyway, moving on, I, I think the first half and I did when we
- 1:02:29were listening to earlier, I had it playing while we were like
- 1:02:31setting up and they Charlie does this little riff and Oh my Lord
- 1:02:36of us, it's very good. It's very there was a rift in
- 1:02:40there and those moments and I really enjoyed that.
- 1:02:43It was when it got a bit more upbeat.
- 1:02:44That's when I sort of started to tune out a little bit again.
- 1:02:47Last Christmas was OK, not a massive fan of that song.
- 1:02:49Think I'd probably just skip it if it came on like Spotify
- 1:02:53shuffle or well, I probably I skipped probably listened to I
- 1:02:56probably listened to Hark the Herald angels at this time of
- 1:02:59year. But any other time, obviously
- 1:03:00it's not happening because it's bad luck and.
- 1:03:02Who wants to listen to that? In July do.
- 1:03:05You know what I would rather do? I'd rather AI busted singing a
- 1:03:10decent song but make it up. Like honestly I'm so
- 1:03:17disappointed because I love Christmas songs, I love busted
- 1:03:20and it's my favourite time of year apart from Halloween and I
- 1:03:24just oh it's just it just feels like money grab.
- 1:03:30I get it annoys me. I just don't think they had much
- 1:03:32say in it if I'm completely honest.
- 1:03:34I really don't think either. However, as you and I both said
- 1:03:37before, a Present for Everyone album, which was obviously
- 1:03:41released near Christmas, was a present for everyone because.
- 1:03:46That was my present, yeah. That album.
- 1:03:49Merry Christmas. Thank you very.
- 1:03:51Much that's genuinely like, up there with one of my top five
- 1:03:55favourite albums ever. Oh.
- 1:03:56I love that for you. Do you know what?
- 1:03:59It's probably up there with mine, I just haven't thought
- 1:04:00about it. My top five favourite albums
- 1:04:03100%. Oh yeah.
- 1:04:05But it's so hard though because Taylor Swift has like 10 albums.
- 1:04:09Do you know what the? Thing is, if I said 12, if I say
- 1:04:12to anybody what's the top five favourite albums, I could tell
- 1:04:16you 2 of mine and then I'd have to think of the rest.
- 1:04:19But there are always 2 that are in there and it is Take Off Your
- 1:04:22Colours, You Meet six and present for everyone.
- 1:04:25Busted. And then I have to think of the
- 1:04:27other three those. Two always there.
- 1:04:30I I still don't know whether I still can't decide which McFly
- 1:04:34album is my favourite. I genuinely I just can't.
- 1:04:36I find it so difficult. I know which one mine is.
- 1:04:40I know yours is. Is yours most in nation or room
- 1:04:43and 3rd floor? So mine is radioactive.
- 1:04:48Oh, radioactive. Oh, I feel like radioactive.
- 1:04:50Feel like I was not expecting that from you.
- 1:04:52All Motion in the ocean, radioactive motion in the ocean
- 1:04:54both give me like the best kind of nostalgic feels.
- 1:04:59I can listen to every single song on every single day albums.
- 1:05:03It would be motion in the ocean for me, I think.
- 1:05:05I think it's got a. Spoiler They're all like above
- 1:05:088. Every single song on that album.
- 1:05:10Spoiler alert. Spoiler alert for the future.
- 1:05:14Well, you know, they weren't the best songs ever busted, but you
- 1:05:17did a good job. And like we said, the present
- 1:05:20for everyone album really was a present for everyone.
- 1:05:22So thank you very much. And it's Christmas, so you know
- 1:05:26it's Christmas. We hope you've enjoyed this
