- 0:49Speaker 2: we're gonna hear a little bit more from coach Elco
- 0:52Speaker 2: as the Aggies get ready for Notre Dame.
- 0:54Speaker 1: We've got a high school report.
- 0:56Speaker 2: We're gonna hear postgame Rangers last night against the Brewers.
- 1:02Speaker 2: And in the second hour, I'm going to replay an interview,
- 1:05Speaker 2: my last interview with Davy Johnson, former A and M
- 1:09Speaker 2: baseball basketball two time World Series champ as a player
- 1:15Speaker 2: as a manager. We visited with him when he was
- 1:22Speaker 2: given the Big Award three years ago. He was not
- 1:28Speaker 2: in good enough helped to make the trip personally, but
- 1:33Speaker 2: we will hear the interview I did with him at
- 1:38Speaker 2: that time. And Mallory is here and we will have
- 1:41Speaker 2: some entertainment news for you.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Who is it?
- 1:45Speaker 2: The Rangers and the Brewers. The Rangers and the Brewers tonight,
- 1:53Speaker 2: game two of their series. Jack Lighter is on the mound.
- 1:58Speaker 2: The Rangers have won nine of twelve twelve of their
- 2:03Speaker 2: last sixteen. They are sitting at seventy five and seventy.
- 2:09Speaker 2: They are a game and a half behind Seattle for
- 2:13Speaker 2: the final wild card spot. They are three and a
- 2:16Speaker 2: half behind the Astros in the Al West, and we
- 2:23Speaker 2: are coming down the stretch. Former Aggie player Michael Helton
- 2:30Speaker 2: drove in. Michael Hellman drove in all five Ranger runs
- 2:36Speaker 2: last night with a Grand Slam and an RBI double.
- 2:42Speaker 1: He was the hero.
- 2:42Speaker 2: We're gonna hear from him a little bit later on again.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Jack Lighter is on the mound for the good guys tonight.
- 2:50Speaker 2: After the win last night, Jacob Latz was really good.
- 2:54Speaker 2: We're gonna hear from him the Astros. We will carry
- 2:57Speaker 2: that game from Toronto. The Astros with Luis Garcia on
- 3:04Speaker 2: the mound. The Blue Jays are going to be without
- 3:07Speaker 2: Bob Baschett on the ten day injured list with a
- 3:11Speaker 2: leg injury. Current Astros players on the il Spencer Araghetti,
- 3:17Speaker 2: Josh Hayter, Caleb Ort among others on the list. Of course,
- 3:25Speaker 2: Isaac Parides is also out with the hamstring. He is
- 3:30Speaker 2: going through hitting running in Florida. Not sure exactly when
- 3:36Speaker 2: he will be back, but again Astros baseball against the
- 3:40Speaker 2: Blue Jays tonight suspended Tampa Bay Ray's shortstop Wander Franco,
- 3:46Speaker 2: found guilty earlier this year of sexually abusing a minor,
- 3:51Speaker 2: was detained by police in the Dominican Republic yesterday and
- 3:56Speaker 2: admitted to a clinic with mental health issues, according to
- 4:01Speaker 2: his family. A police spokesman said the request to have
- 4:05Speaker 2: him detained came from his family. He noted the admittance
- 4:10Speaker 2: into the private clinic is not linked to ongoing legal
- 4:15Speaker 2: issues that Franco has suffered. The Aggie baseball schedule was
- 4:25Speaker 2: released and here's what it looks like. They will begin
- 4:30Speaker 2: in March in Oklahoma at home. There will be Georgia, Vanderbilt, Florida,
- 4:38Speaker 2: Mississippi State on the road. I mentioned Oklahoma, Missouri, lsu Ole,
- 4:46Speaker 2: miss Texas is here for the series April tenth through
- 4:51Speaker 2: the twelfth, So you got that going on for you.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Cassius Howell has been named the Walter camp National Defense.
- 5:00Speaker 2: It's a Player of the week. The last Aggie was
- 5:04Speaker 2: Kellen Mond seven years ago. Hal of course had back
- 5:09Speaker 2: to back to back sacks and the win over Utah
- 5:13Speaker 2: State and became the first Aggie to record three sacks
- 5:19Speaker 2: in a game since edgarn Cooper against Alabama a couple
- 5:24Speaker 2: of years ago.
- 5:27Speaker 1: So we got that going on for us.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Also, the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of
- 5:34Speaker 2: the Week is John Mattier, the Oklahoma quarterback who threw
- 5:38Speaker 2: for two hundred and seventy yards and rushed for seventy
- 5:42Speaker 2: four more yards. Colorado is changing their starting quarterback. They're
- 5:48Speaker 2: expected to name third string quarterback Ryan Stobb the starter
- 5:53Speaker 2: against the University of Houston on Friday night. Deon Sanders
- 5:58Speaker 2: turned to Stob after the Offen been struggled. In a
- 6:01Speaker 2: non conference game against Delaware, he completed seven of ten
- 6:06Speaker 2: passes for one hundred and fifty seven yards and two touchdowns.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Big twelve officiating crew has been reprimanded following a rules
- 6:15Speaker 2: violation in the Missouri win against Kansas Saturday. To play
- 6:20Speaker 2: occurred in the first quarter after Missouri's first touchdown when
- 6:24Speaker 2: the Tigers were flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct. Kansas blocked the
- 6:29Speaker 2: extra point and the ensuing kickoff was illegal. Big twelve
- 6:34Speaker 2: officials allowed a punt to occur on.
- 6:37Speaker 1: A free kick.
- 6:39Speaker 2: The Big twelve officiating crew has been removed from his
- 6:43Speaker 2: next schedule assignment. Mat I like the fact that the
- 6:47Speaker 2: league announced it, and I like the fact that they're
- 6:50Speaker 2: sitting the crew doubt I don't think we've ever seen
- 6:54Speaker 2: that in the SEC.
- 6:56Speaker 1: We need to see that in the SEC.
- 7:00Speaker 2: We need to have accountability from the officials in the SEC.
- 7:06Speaker 2: And the A and M men's full basketball schedule has
- 7:12Speaker 2: been released today.
- 7:14Speaker 1: They will open and Fort Bend in a.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Neutral site game against Arizona State on October twenty six.
- 7:24Speaker 2: That's an exhibition game, I believe. I think that's right.
- 7:31Speaker 2: The home schedule is the worst. The home non conference
- 7:36Speaker 2: schedule is the worst.
- 7:37Speaker 1: It has been in I don't know how long.
- 7:43Speaker 2: I'm not sure how long it's been since they've had
- 7:46Speaker 2: a worst home non conference schedule. Here you go, people
- 7:51Speaker 2: who are paying one hundred and seventy five dollars more
- 7:53Speaker 2: for your upper deck seats this year, Northwestern State, Texas,
- 7:59Speaker 2: Southern UCF, Montana, Manhattan, Mississippi, Valley State, Jacksonville, East Texas State,
- 8:16Speaker 2: and Prairie View. There will be plenty of good seats available.
- 8:23Speaker 2: The home schedule includes starting at home against LSU on
- 8:28Speaker 2: January third, Oklahoma on the tenth, Mississippi State January twentyeth
- 8:35Speaker 2: followed on the twenty fourth by South Carolina home game
- 8:41Speaker 2: against Florida, the defending national champs on February the seventh.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Home game against Missouri on February eleventh. A week later
- 8:52Speaker 2: they'll host Ole miss The Texas game at Reeve this
- 8:56Speaker 2: year is February twenty eighth. They are home against Kentucky
- 9:05Speaker 2: on either March third or March fourth, and that's it.
- 9:12Speaker 1: That's the home conference schedule. So there you go.
- 9:20Speaker 2: They don't have a terrible overall schedule because they play
- 9:27Speaker 2: at Oklahoma State, they play Florida State in Tampa, they
- 9:33Speaker 2: play at pitt They play this perplexing neutral game in
- 9:39Speaker 2: Arlington against SMU. So that's not terrible. It's just you're
- 9:45Speaker 2: not going to see any of those games here. That's
- 9:49Speaker 2: not good. All right, Tomorrow, Bill O'Reilly joins me. Bill
- 9:57Speaker 2: has been on our show a number of times. He
- 10:01Speaker 2: has written a bunch of books. I always enjoy them.
- 10:05Speaker 2: I enjoy the style in which they're written. They're simple
- 10:10Speaker 2: for simple people like me, and I'm trying to find
- 10:19Speaker 2: that I will write here. It's called Confronting Evil is
- 10:23Speaker 2: the name of the book, and I've read part of
- 10:28Speaker 2: it so far. I've read about Kaligala, I've read about
- 10:32Speaker 2: ginghis Khan. Bill O'Reilly Tomorrow, Confronting Evil, so we will
- 10:41Speaker 2: visit with him on the show tomorrow.
- 10:44Speaker 1: All right, I'm going to take a break. We're gonna
- 10:46Speaker 1: go back.
- 10:47Speaker 2: We're gonna hear from Mike Elko after the final lap.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Brought to you by Enco Insurance.
- 10:54Speaker 5: Enco Insurance is now a part of Hub International, bringing

- 11:25Speaker 6: NASCAR Expinity Series race recap from Worldwide Technology Raceway at Gateway.
- 11:30Speaker 6: I'm Kerrie Murphy. Connor Zeliz wins again, ninth win of
- 11:34Speaker 6: the season after leading one hundred and twenty one of
- 11:36Speaker 6: the one hundred and sixty laps on the day. Amazing.
- 11:39Speaker 7: Justin sped on pig Road. My picker did a really
- 11:41Speaker 7: good job getting me to lead, and then you know,
- 11:43Speaker 7: just kind of executed from there on the restarts at
- 11:45Speaker 7: the end and we made some adjustments that got us
- 11:48Speaker 7: to a place where our car was really competitive. So
- 11:51Speaker 7: every time I walk into JRM building, I'm not a
- 11:53Speaker 7: trackhouse driver, I'm a JRM driver. And you know, they've
- 11:56Speaker 7: made me feel at home and given me a place
- 11:58Speaker 7: to grow and exceed in the series, and you know,
- 12:01Speaker 7: I'll be forever grateful for that. And I don't really
- 12:04Speaker 7: treat it as a short term home. I want to
- 12:06Speaker 7: race for JRM in the future and races and really
- 12:10Speaker 7: just fall in love with all the people there and
- 12:13Speaker 7: the organization Dale Kelly LW Hendrick Engine Shop does a
- 12:17Speaker 7: great job, you know, giving us a ton of horsepower,
- 12:19Speaker 7: and you know, just there's so much to it that
- 12:22Speaker 7: I enjoy being a part of. And you know, I
- 12:24Speaker 7: don't see it as a place where, you know, I'm
- 12:26Speaker 7: just going to be there and going to leave and
- 12:28Speaker 7: then never talk to them again. I really do enjoy
- 12:30Speaker 7: racing with them, and they've truly made me feel like
- 12:32Speaker 7: family in this short amount of time.
- 12:34Speaker 6: William Sowlitch was second, followed by Christian Echaz, Brandon Jones
- 12:38Speaker 6: and Jesse Love rounds out the top five. Connor Zilich
- 12:41Speaker 6: and Justin Algeyer top the standings heading into their playoffs
- 12:45Speaker 6: this coming weekend. The Round of twelve kicks off at
- 12:47Speaker 6: Bristol Motor Speedway Friday, seven thirty pm Eastern on CW.
- 12:52Speaker 6: This is the final app.

- 14:15Speaker 2: Thursday, We've got to Clark Eisenhower Outdoor edition. Also Friday,
- 14:22Speaker 2: Kurt Bowles, Tony Catalina Young, Ryan Starr on Friday's edition.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Yesterday Coach Elk visited with the media. We played part
- 14:35Speaker 2: of that yesterday. We actually have coach Elko live every
- 14:39Speaker 2: Monday at one thirty here on the Zone during game week,
- 14:44Speaker 2: and let's listen in to what he had to say.
- 14:49Speaker 10: Coach, this might be the first game of this season
- 14:51Speaker 10: that it feels like maybe there's some extra emotions or
- 14:54Speaker 10: maybe you know, your guys talked about it being personal
- 14:57Speaker 10: this year. This is probably one of those games they
- 14:59Speaker 10: were talking about, Well, just how do you going throughout
- 15:02Speaker 10: this week harness that emotion and make sure it doesn't
- 15:05Speaker 10: become too big.
- 15:07Speaker 11: Yeah, I think that's where, you know, hopefully some of
- 15:10Speaker 11: the stages and some of the opportunities that we were
- 15:12Speaker 11: on last year helped. You know, some of the success
- 15:14Speaker 11: that we had beating top ten teams, some of the
- 15:17Speaker 11: failures that we had losing some of those games. I
- 15:20Speaker 11: think those were all opportunities for us to learn and grow.
- 15:24Speaker 11: And I think the more you get into these opportunities,
- 15:27Speaker 11: you understand the level of emotion that comes into these games.
- 15:31Speaker 11: It's certainly going to feel different running out of the
- 15:34Speaker 11: tunnel Saturday night than it does on an average normal
- 15:37Speaker 11: game when you're when you're not playing the team as
- 15:39Speaker 11: highly thought out, thought of as these guys.
- 15:42Speaker 12: Are, and so.
- 15:44Speaker 11: Yeah, I think it's going to it's going to feel different,
- 15:46Speaker 11: but learning how to handle those emotions.
- 15:48Speaker 12: Hopefully what we went through last year will help.
- 15:50Speaker 10: And then Cash is how obviously recorded the back to
- 15:53Speaker 10: back to back yesterday, Miles Garrett recorded back to back
- 15:56Speaker 10: to back sacks is Texas A and M D Line University.
- 16:02Speaker 12: We've had a really really good run.
- 16:04Speaker 11: You know, I don't know if I would call this
- 16:06Speaker 11: d Lion university, but we've had a really really good run.
- 16:08Speaker 11: I think, you know, Miles got here. Miles left right
- 16:11Speaker 11: before I got here as a defensive coordinator. I think
- 16:14Speaker 11: we've talked about this before, but since I've been here
- 16:16Speaker 11: in eighteen, we've had more D Line than drafted than
- 16:18Speaker 11: any other team in the SEC. You know, when you
- 16:21Speaker 11: look at from von Miller to Miles to what Justin
- 16:24Speaker 11: Metabeke is doing. Bobby Brown had a good game in
- 16:27Speaker 11: Carolina on Saturday, We've got a lot of guys making
- 16:31Speaker 11: a lot of plays.
- 16:31Speaker 12: And so yeah, it's really cool to see all those
- 16:33Speaker 12: guys put on.
- 16:34Speaker 13: From Texas A and m coach to the right Carter, Mike,
- 16:38Speaker 13: how how different do you think or maybe what differences
- 16:41Speaker 13: do you see in this Notre Dame defense under new
- 16:44Speaker 13: coordinator Chris Ash compared to Al Golden's defenses.
- 16:47Speaker 11: Yeah, I think I think they're you doing what a
- 16:50Speaker 11: smart coordinator would do. You know, there's a system in
- 16:52Speaker 11: place that they've played really well and been really successful
- 16:55Speaker 11: at and so you see a large part of that
- 16:58Speaker 11: still in place.
- 16:59Speaker 12: But you know, Chris has obviously been a very.
- 17:01Speaker 11: Successful defensive coordinator in his own right for a very
- 17:04Speaker 11: long time, and so I think you see some of
- 17:07Speaker 11: the wrinkles that are his or maybe more of the
- 17:10Speaker 11: staples of a Chris Ash defense kind of showing themselves too.
- 17:14Speaker 11: And I'm sure they'll continue to try to find the
- 17:17Speaker 11: right blend as they move forward based on what they
- 17:20Speaker 11: think they need to do to be successful to stop people.
- 17:23Speaker 13: And is one start enough to kind of assess c J.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Carr.
- 17:27Speaker 13: Have you guys kind of looked back at maybe even
- 17:29Speaker 13: his high school film and just kind of your overall
- 17:31Speaker 13: impressions of him.
- 17:32Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean he's a really talented kid. I think
- 17:34Speaker 11: he's got a big arm. I think you saw that
- 17:36Speaker 11: in the spring game. You saw that on his high
- 17:39Speaker 11: school tape. You know, obviously him making his first start
- 17:44Speaker 11: on the road down at Miami. You know, those are
- 17:47Speaker 11: always challenging situations for a young quarterback, and so I'm
- 17:50Speaker 11: sure you know, he'll make tremendous growth coming out of
- 17:54Speaker 11: that experience, now knowing what the emotions of all of
- 17:56Speaker 11: that feel like.
- 17:57Speaker 12: And he played well, he made a lot of play.
- 18:00Speaker 11: I'm sure he's gonna have plans and hopes to make
- 18:03Speaker 11: a lot more Saturday night.
- 18:05Speaker 13: And then last one is uh you mentioned marcel Is
- 18:07Speaker 13: trey Zoon good to go for Saturdays.
- 18:09Speaker 14: Yeah, front left, Robert Mike playing at Notre Dame. Is
- 18:15Speaker 14: that venue any different than anywhere? Or is that much
- 18:18Speaker 14: like an SEC venue?
- 18:21Speaker 12: I think it's different. I don't know how.
- 18:22Speaker 11: I don't know if it plays different, But you know,
- 18:24Speaker 11: you the thing I've always said to people about Notre
- 18:27Speaker 11: Dame is you can just feel the history and tradition,
- 18:29Speaker 11: you know, from touchdown Jesus to just the feel in
- 18:33Speaker 11: and around the stadium. You feel tradition, you feel history,
- 18:38Speaker 11: you feel what that program.
- 18:39Speaker 12: Has meant for so long to college football.
- 18:42Speaker 11: And and then obviously they've done a really good job
- 18:45Speaker 11: with some of the recent renovations to create the modern field,
- 18:48Speaker 11: to it as well, and so it's a cool place.
- 18:51Speaker 12: I think it's a really unique place. It would be
- 18:53Speaker 12: a great atmosphere.
- 18:54Speaker 14: And Mike ain, it was obviously struggled on the road
- 18:56Speaker 14: and recently particularly big games, even when you're here as
- 18:59Speaker 14: a defensive wanted to coordinator. My question you as a coach,
- 19:02Speaker 14: have you tweaked anything about how maybe you go on
- 19:04Speaker 14: the road take your team, whether it's where, how you
- 19:07Speaker 14: how you approach it or travel anything along those lines.
- 19:10Speaker 12: Yeah, I mean we talked about that a lot last year.
- 19:12Speaker 11: I think our our travel schedule is a lot different
- 19:16Speaker 11: than what it has been in the recent past, at least.
- 19:20Speaker 11: I don't know how much that impacts or doesn't impact it.
- 19:22Speaker 12: I think.
- 19:24Speaker 11: You know, when you decide to join the SEC and
- 19:27Speaker 11: play on the road, you play in some really hard venues.
- 19:29Speaker 11: I think we've played in some out of conference venues
- 19:31Speaker 11: that have been really challenging going back to my time
- 19:34Speaker 11: as a defensive coordinator, certainly this one as well. And
- 19:38Speaker 11: you know, I think I think that leads to maybe
- 19:40Speaker 11: some of the struggles. But obviously for us to take
- 19:43Speaker 11: the next step as a program, that's the next hurdle
- 19:45Speaker 11: that we have to get over.
- 19:46Speaker 12: You know, we got over the winning on the road
- 19:48Speaker 12: last year.
- 19:49Speaker 11: Now we got to get over the winning at night
- 19:51Speaker 11: on the road against the top ten team.
- 19:53Speaker 12: And so that's the next hurdle for us to clear.
- 19:56Speaker 12: Coach all there in the back, Tyler.
- 19:59Speaker 15: Mike, last year the Notre Dame game was the very
- 20:01Speaker 15: first game of the season. I know, it's been a
- 20:04Speaker 15: whole year, so everything's you know, so much more different
- 20:07Speaker 15: than than going into the last year's Notre Dame game.
- 20:09Speaker 15: But even that being week three this year, does that
- 20:12Speaker 15: help having kind of two games before you get to this,
- 20:16Speaker 15: you know, like you say, this top ten matchup.
- 20:18Speaker 11: You know, all that stuff is even you know, I
- 20:20Speaker 11: think you had it been our first game and their
- 20:22Speaker 11: fifth game, it'd be a difference. But you know, last
- 20:24Speaker 11: year was our first, it was their first. This year
- 20:27Speaker 11: it's our third, it's their second, coming off of a
- 20:29Speaker 11: bye week. You know, all that stuff is kind of
- 20:32Speaker 11: what it is. I think maybe just in times in
- 20:34Speaker 11: terms of the overall quality of football that gets played,
- 20:37Speaker 11: maybe having a few games under both of our belts will.
- 20:39Speaker 12: Make it a higher quality game.
- 20:41Speaker 11: But I thought last year's game was a really high
- 20:43Speaker 11: quality football game, two really good teams, making a lot
- 20:46Speaker 11: of plays against each other and expect this to be
- 20:49Speaker 11: very similar.
- 20:50Speaker 15: Coach back up front, on.
- 20:53Speaker 16: Just their running backs that they have, in particular Jeremiah
- 20:58Speaker 16: Love is they're one that you'd rather see out there
- 21:02Speaker 16: than the other, and just your thoughts on those guys.
- 21:04Speaker 11: No, I think it's it's as talented a duo as
- 21:06Speaker 11: I've played against. I was actually talking about this that
- 21:10Speaker 11: the only thing that I can remember in the ballpark
- 21:13Speaker 11: was when I was actually at Notre Dame and we
- 21:15Speaker 11: played Nick Chubb and Sonny Michelle, and that group was
- 21:19Speaker 11: really talented.
- 21:20Speaker 12: But these two kids are really really good.
- 21:21Speaker 11: They're they're athleticism for their size, the way they hit
- 21:25Speaker 11: the hole, the power with which they run. They're both
- 21:28Speaker 11: effective pass catchers. These two kids are really really talented
- 21:31Speaker 11: football players.
- 21:33Speaker 16: Did you ever regret not bringing in Marcel in that
- 21:36Speaker 16: game last year and did it factor into your decision
- 21:42Speaker 16: to bring in Marcel against LSU later.
- 21:44Speaker 9: In the year.
- 21:44Speaker 10: Nope, to the left, coach, THEIRDO.
- 21:48Speaker 12: Week three was Marcel's first start last year.
- 21:51Speaker 13: Just over the last calendar year, how have you seen
- 21:53Speaker 13: him grow pokemon and off the field.
- 21:55Speaker 11: Yeah, I again, I think you know we've spoken about
- 21:58Speaker 11: this a lot. I don't know that I have anything
- 22:00Speaker 11: new to add to it. I think he's really matured
- 22:03Speaker 11: as a passer. I think he has matured in his
- 22:06Speaker 11: understanding of offense and what it all looks like. I
- 22:09Speaker 11: think he's got a better feel and rhythm for the
- 22:12Speaker 11: passing game. He's had a really really good first two games. Obviously,
- 22:17Speaker 11: the quality of opposition is about to ramp up really,
- 22:20Speaker 11: really high, and.
- 22:20Speaker 12: So I know he's looking forward and excited for the challenge.
- 22:24Speaker 17: Coach to the back right, if I could go back
- 22:26Speaker 17: to love just a little bit, for whatever reason, he
- 22:29Speaker 17: didn't get as many carries against Miami, how much do
- 22:32Speaker 17: you expect to see him prominently display Saturday night?
- 22:36Speaker 11: Yeah, I'd imagine he'll be a pretty big feature of
- 22:39Speaker 11: what they're going to do Saturday night, And that'd be
- 22:41Speaker 11: my guess.
- 22:44Speaker 17: Coach to the left, Rob.
- 22:47Speaker 18: So, with two games under your belt as calling the
- 22:50Speaker 18: defense but still being the head coach, how is that
- 22:53Speaker 18: working out for you or are you kind of in
- 22:55Speaker 18: a rhythm now of being able to do both jobs.
- 23:00Speaker 12: Yeah? I think so.
- 23:01Speaker 11: I think I've at times over my head coach career
- 23:04Speaker 11: done it. So I don't think it was completely new
- 23:06Speaker 11: to me. Yeah, I think it's it's a little different
- 23:10Speaker 11: for sure, But I got a lot of help, a
- 23:12Speaker 11: lot of support. I've got a great staff, and I
- 23:15Speaker 11: think that takes a lot of the pressure off of
- 23:17Speaker 11: what I have to do.
- 23:18Speaker 14: Coach to the left, Robert, what about the ten day
- 23:21Speaker 14: proposal the transfer? I know you've talked about you like
- 23:24Speaker 14: the ten days one day?
- 23:25Speaker 12: What about that? Is it officially it's still proposed.
- 23:29Speaker 11: Yeah, I think it's a phenomenal idea. I think the
- 23:32Speaker 11: fact that we are going to do it at the
- 23:34Speaker 11: end of one season before the start of another one
- 23:37Speaker 11: is a really great idea. I'm not sure where the
- 23:38Speaker 11: idea of not doing it that way came from. That
- 23:42Speaker 11: never seemed real intelligent to me. I like free agency
- 23:44Speaker 11: before the season starts and then we can start preparing
- 23:47Speaker 11: with the team that we have, and so yeah, I
- 23:50Speaker 11: think hopefully it goes through, and I think it's it'll
- 23:53Speaker 11: be best for everybody. I think it's really challenging. The
- 23:56Speaker 11: thing that I think you obviously we're all four players
- 23:59Speaker 11: having the opportunities that they need to have. But I
- 24:00Speaker 11: think the thing that's going to make it really challenging
- 24:02Speaker 11: is when you talk about revenue sharing. You're basically talking
- 24:05Speaker 11: about cap management and managing CAP with two open free
- 24:08Speaker 11: agent windows, one later.
- 24:11Speaker 12: After the first one.
- 24:12Speaker 11: I just don't know how financially people can manage a
- 24:15Speaker 11: CAP with that system with two different windows, and so
- 24:17Speaker 11: I think it'll be really helpful.
- 24:19Speaker 15: Anything else for coach?
- 24:20Speaker 12: All right, thank you guys. Oh we got one? Go ahead?
- 24:24Speaker 12: Why not Alex? I was just gonna ask Alex Miller for.
- 24:26Speaker 10: The foodies in the crowd, are there any places in
- 24:29Speaker 10: South Bend that we need to hit up?
- 24:32Speaker 12: So somebody asked me that at the radio show last week.
- 24:35Speaker 12: And there's a pizza place.
- 24:38Speaker 11: I don't know if it's still there that I always
- 24:39Speaker 11: thought was really good. It was in New Jersey style pizzaia,
- 24:42Speaker 11: but it was over in granger By where we lived.
- 24:44Speaker 11: Outside of that, I'm not a foodie, so there are
- 24:48Speaker 11: probably some really good foodie places, but we were kind
- 24:51Speaker 11: of more bars and burgers.
- 24:53Speaker 12: So I appreciate you guys.
- 24:58Speaker 19: Time we do one of these J Barbecue commercials, they
- 25:01Speaker 19: tell us to come up with something clever, but honestly,
- 25:03Speaker 19: I never know what to say.
- 25:05Speaker 20: How about we're seeing J Barbecue. We make barbecue. It's
- 25:08Speaker 20: good people like it. That's why we've been here smoking
- 25:11Speaker 20: meats and filling bellies since the eighties.
- 25:14Speaker 19: Well, I guess that sums it up. So if you're hungry,
- 25:16Speaker 19: come see us.
- 25:17Speaker 20: If you need more convincing, well maybe you just don't
- 25:20Speaker 20: like happiness.
- 25:21Speaker 19: Either way, we'll be here smoking meat like we always do,
- 25:23Speaker 19: serving up happiness on a tray.
- 25:25Speaker 20: CNJ Barbecue, Let's Eat.
- 25:27Speaker 21: AAA Overhead Door Company in Fireplaces provides the Brasses Valley
- 25:32Speaker 21: with the highest quality products and installation. Since nineteen eighty two,

- 25:40Speaker 21: remotes and fireplaces for residential and commercial customers. Check out
- 25:44Speaker 21: the showroom at twenty seven oh four Wildflower and Brian,
- 25:48Speaker 21: or go online at AAA dash Overhead dot com. AAA
- 25:52Speaker 21: Overhead Door and Fireplaces is the first name in garage
- 25:56Speaker 21: doors and fireplaces.
- 25:58Speaker 1: All right us.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Mike Callical more of a burgers and beer guy like that. Uh,
- 26:03Speaker 2: not a foodie. He's got a pizza place he liked.
- 26:08Speaker 2: He's more of a burgers and beer guy. I'm I'm
- 26:11Speaker 2: all in on that, but I've got to you got
- 26:16Speaker 2: to throw in a steak every now and then for
- 26:18Speaker 2: me or you know, like a chicken fried steak every
- 26:22Speaker 2: now and then. Uh, you know those the chicken fried
- 26:26Speaker 2: steaks not not great for my girlish figure. So we're
- 26:34Speaker 2: looking at the game Saturday on NBC, and NBC, of
- 26:40Speaker 2: course is the Notre Dame network. And I talked a
- 26:43Speaker 2: little bit about this yesterday because it's just it's a
- 26:46Speaker 2: little bit weird. Mike Tarico was pretty much the voice
- 26:51Speaker 2: of Notre Dame right football.
- 26:57Speaker 22: And then it was passed along and now Saturday, Noah
- 27:09Speaker 22: Eagle is doing the play by play.
- 27:11Speaker 1: I don't know Noah Eagle.
- 27:14Speaker 2: My best guess is he is the son of longtime
- 27:20Speaker 2: broadcaster i An Eagle, who does NFL. He does NCAA tournament.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Todd Blackledge has been around forever and I like Todd Blackledge.
- 27:30Speaker 1: As an analyst. I think he's pretty good.
- 27:33Speaker 2: Caleb, check out who else was doing Notre Dame like
- 27:37Speaker 2: NBC Notre Dame football, and then Catherine Tappan is their main.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Hockey sideline reporter.
- 27:48Speaker 2: But she's good. She does everything and I like her
- 27:51Speaker 2: a lot too. I think she's very good. But I'll
- 27:58Speaker 2: be interested to hear Noah Eagle. So who do we
- 28:03Speaker 2: have on Notre Dame football. Yeah, that's that's who I
- 28:09Speaker 2: was trying to think of. And who is the normal
- 28:11Speaker 2: color person Jason Garrett, Yeah, Jason Garrett, Dan Hicks.
- 28:18Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 28:19Speaker 2: So why don't you ask where are Jason Garrett? Where
- 28:24Speaker 2: are Dan Nicks and Jason Garrett for the A and
- 28:26Speaker 2: M Notre Dame game on NBC Saturday, because that that's
- 28:30Speaker 2: would be their normal crew. And I'm not sure what's
- 28:32Speaker 2: going on there actually, unless these guys are taking over
- 28:36Speaker 2: because they've had different ones, right, They've they've had a
- 28:38Speaker 2: lot of different ones on NBC. They keep they keep
- 28:42Speaker 2: switching out. But like I said, I like Todd Blacklinch,
- 28:45Speaker 2: I think he's good.
- 28:47Speaker 1: I like Catherine Tappan. I don't know Noah Eagle. I'm
- 28:53Speaker 1: looking forward to.
- 28:55Speaker 2: Hearing how he calls the game on on Saturday Saturday Night. Okay,
- 29:02Speaker 2: it's so Big ten Saturday Night.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Is Dan Hicks? Right? Okay, I guess this isn't Big
- 29:14Speaker 1: ten Saturday.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Oh, NBC has a Big ten Saturday Night now, Okay,
- 29:19Speaker 2: so they are the normal Saturday night announcers, primetime announcers.
- 29:27Speaker 2: So so if the game we're in the afternoon, we'd
- 29:31Speaker 2: get Dan Hicks. Is that what you're kind of reading
- 29:34Speaker 2: about interesting. Why are why aren't those guys good enough
- 29:38Speaker 2: to do the primetime game? I guess it's all contractual,
- 29:42Speaker 2: you know, nighttime versus but Big ten Saturday Night, that's
- 29:47Speaker 2: the thing on NBC, right, So when Notre Dame is
- 29:49Speaker 2: either not at home or playing an afternoon game, we
- 29:53Speaker 2: get a Big ten Saturday Night.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Is that is that right?
- 29:55Speaker 2: That's that's like their game of the week on on NBC.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Okay, I know that.
- 30:01Speaker 2: I didn't know that was part of the deal. I
- 30:03Speaker 2: don't really I don't pay a lot of attention to
- 30:06Speaker 2: the Big Ten. I don't like Big ten football. I
- 30:10Speaker 2: don't like the style of Big ten football except for
- 30:14Speaker 2: Ohio State, and they play an SEC style with SEC personnel,
- 30:18Speaker 2: and that's why they're playing for the national championship. Right,
- 30:24Speaker 2: as far as I'm concerned, Michigan and Michigan looks a
- 30:27Speaker 2: little has a little bit more speed this year. When
- 30:30Speaker 2: they won the national championship two years ago, it's power.
- 30:34Speaker 2: I mean they had a good quarterback obviously McCarthy, right,
- 30:37Speaker 2: and he could make some plays.
- 30:39Speaker 1: They didn't have a lot of speed.
- 30:41Speaker 2: You know, when Texas went up there last year, it
- 30:43Speaker 2: was obvious, and Texas was really fast last year.
- 30:46Speaker 1: I don't know if they're this fast this year.
- 30:47Speaker 2: But it was obvious, right, and all the Big ten
- 30:51Speaker 2: is like that, you know. I just think Wisconsin is
- 30:55Speaker 2: big plotting guys. Penn State has got more athletic, which
- 31:01Speaker 2: is why they're in the top five three right now. Okay,
- 31:08Speaker 2: but I just I don't like Big ten football period,
- 31:12Speaker 2: so I didn't know that that was a deal with NBC,
- 31:17Speaker 2: and I doubt if I'll be watching a lot of
- 31:19Speaker 2: Big ten football on Big Ten Saturday night because there's
- 31:23Speaker 2: always an SEC game or a lot better game on
- 31:25Speaker 2: Saturday night as well. For those of you are the
- 31:30Speaker 2: Big Ten, I'm not apologizing. That's just the way it is.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Galeria is part of our community. They have won best

- 32:29Speaker 2: You can ask them about memberships as well, but spa services.

- 34:08Speaker 23: How are you doing today?
- 34:09Speaker 27: I'm doing good man, awesome.
- 34:11Speaker 26: Congratulations on winning your first game of the year. With
- 34:13Speaker 26: how last season went, how important was it to get
- 34:16Speaker 26: off to a good start this year.
- 34:18Speaker 27: I mean, you know, we're kind of in the same
- 34:20Speaker 27: but we were a year ago. I'm a we we
- 34:22Speaker 27: needed we felt like we needed to win. I mean,
- 34:24Speaker 27: anybody would, you know, But it's an opponent we beat
- 34:26Speaker 27: a year ago, and you know, Smithfield's coming off an
- 34:29Speaker 27: ozer and ten season, and you know, a lot of
- 34:31Speaker 27: the polls that we were looking at, we were picked
- 34:34Speaker 27: to be the underdog. You know. It's a little bit
- 34:35Speaker 27: of a little bit of an encouragement for our guys
- 34:38Speaker 27: to uh, you know, to see that and just kind
- 34:40Speaker 27: of just really focus on the week and focus on
- 34:44Speaker 27: on some things that we need to do a little
- 34:46Speaker 27: bit better. And our our week too, scrimmage was not
- 34:48Speaker 27: good for us on the offensive end, and you know,
- 34:51Speaker 27: we saw some things that was gonna have to uh
- 34:54Speaker 27: that we were going to take advantage of and settle
- 34:56Speaker 27: in and make those plays and pretty routine plays. And
- 34:59Speaker 27: so anyway, I mean the kids, kids stepped up and
- 35:02Speaker 27: when we need stops on the defensive end, they were
- 35:04Speaker 27: able to get some big ones. It's and some key points.
- 35:07Speaker 27: Really the difference in the game was the was the
- 35:09Speaker 27: turnovers that they created. I want to say, we had
- 35:11Speaker 27: four first forced turnovers, you know, so that ended up
- 35:14Speaker 27: really being the difference in the game for us. So
- 35:17Speaker 27: both sides of always had a lot of production and
- 35:19Speaker 27: so coming out to a one to o start is
- 35:21Speaker 27: right where we needed to be and right we're expected
- 35:23Speaker 27: to be coming out of week one.
- 35:24Speaker 11: Mm hmm.
- 35:25Speaker 26: Right. And does last season's finished change any of your
- 35:28Speaker 26: first game objectives from a coaching perspectives.
- 35:30Speaker 27: I don't. I don't think so. You know, everybody's a
- 35:32Speaker 27: little bit different. You looked at schedule from from last year.
- 35:35Speaker 27: You know, either some schools that might have been a
- 35:38Speaker 27: little bit down last year might be on the way
- 35:39Speaker 27: up because they got a lot of kids returning, and
- 35:41Speaker 27: then vice versa. On the other way, you might have
- 35:43Speaker 27: some experienced groups last year that we played that lost
- 35:45Speaker 27: a lot of kids. You know. So, uh, you know,
- 35:48Speaker 27: each year is a new spot. And uh, you know,
- 35:50Speaker 27: our our kids are obviously different than our our line
- 35:54Speaker 27: groups trying to mature right now on the fly. We
- 35:57Speaker 27: we played nine I want to say, if not war
- 36:00Speaker 27: defense of different defensive lineman last week. And the one
- 36:04Speaker 27: thing about the heat and the humidity last week, we were
- 36:07Speaker 27: we were having to play play a bunch of kids.
- 36:09Speaker 27: I don't know that we normally would have played in
- 36:11Speaker 27: a in a game situation really just because of the
- 36:14Speaker 27: sets seas. You know, so anyway, just it just kind
- 36:20Speaker 27: of keeps you focusing on the next week. We got
- 36:22Speaker 27: a new opponent coming up that we're not familiar at
- 36:24Speaker 27: all with, you know, so coming out with a subvarsity
- 36:27Speaker 27: win on Thursday and then varsity went on Friday night,
- 36:30Speaker 27: just got our whole program just kind of steering in
- 36:31Speaker 27: the right direction. But it's a very similar spot where
- 36:34Speaker 27: were a year ago, and it's just now seeing if
- 36:37Speaker 27: we do a better job maintaining that.
- 36:38Speaker 26: Right and speaking of underclassmen, with a larger junior class
- 36:41Speaker 26: and a few seniors, how have you prepared underclassman to
- 36:43Speaker 26: lead and maintain a high level of play, and what
- 36:45Speaker 26: ways do we see that on the field on Friday?
- 36:48Speaker 27: You know, I don't. I don't know that you can
- 36:49Speaker 27: prep anybody for anything. You know, that's our quarterbacks started
- 36:53Speaker 27: a sophomore year ago. And a good chunk of my
- 36:57Speaker 27: of my production is, like he says, either juniors or
- 37:01Speaker 27: seniors on the way out. You know, seniors for the
- 37:02Speaker 27: most part have been there before, but some of them
- 37:04Speaker 27: are seeing new roles and whether that's the leadership role
- 37:07Speaker 27: or a new position on the field, you know, there's
- 37:08Speaker 27: there's differences there for sure, And like I said with
- 37:11Speaker 27: my line, it's a lot of guys that are having
- 37:14Speaker 27: to learn them a fly, you know that that are
- 37:16Speaker 27: not just getting eased into that transition. You know, you
- 37:18Speaker 27: try to do some all season things where they realize
- 37:22Speaker 27: the urgency of what's going on. But you know, nowadays
- 37:25Speaker 27: in small school sports, all seasons relatively non existent. These
- 37:29Speaker 27: kids do so many things and are pulled so many
- 37:32Speaker 27: different ways, and you know, you're trying to make sure
- 37:34Speaker 27: that you have a pretty good equal balance for where
- 37:36Speaker 27: those kids go to their other sports. So you know,
- 37:39Speaker 27: it's you're you're putting them through strength training, trying to
- 37:41Speaker 27: get them stronger and more explosive, and trying to get
- 37:45Speaker 27: them ready for the season. And you know, we saw
- 37:48Speaker 27: some good things with that in a lot of areas
- 37:50Speaker 27: where we need to improve. And I think the one
- 37:54Speaker 27: area that really impressed me is behind the scenes and
- 37:56Speaker 27: the way they're working in the weight room right now
- 37:57Speaker 27: is really what's going to pull them apart and separate
- 38:01Speaker 27: them as we get later in the year from where
- 38:03Speaker 27: we've been in years past.
- 38:05Speaker 26: And some might say that last year was a defensive
- 38:07Speaker 26: struggle for your team. You scored fifty three points in
- 38:09Speaker 26: your Week one win over Smithville. How important do you
- 38:12Speaker 26: think offensive success is to the defensive side of the ball.
- 38:16Speaker 27: You know, football's game of it's a game of mood swings,
- 38:19Speaker 27: you know, and momentum changes and adversity on both sides
- 38:23Speaker 27: of the ball. And just realizing, you know, we got
- 38:26Speaker 27: twenty I got thirty kids on the roster, but I
- 38:28Speaker 27: really got twenty seven, twenty eight healthy bodies, and and
- 38:31Speaker 27: you know they're all picking each other up on both sides.
- 38:34Speaker 27: And it's one great thing about small school football is
- 38:36Speaker 27: you don't have you don't have to fight that struggle
- 38:38Speaker 27: of offense versus defense. You know, we did our job
- 38:41Speaker 27: and noice, y'all's turn to step up, New Years and
- 38:43Speaker 27: that type thing. So you know, they're all pretty well
- 38:46Speaker 27: related to it. And then realize how those things marry.
- 38:49Speaker 27: And you know, anytime you give up points, okay, so offense,
- 38:53Speaker 27: how well, how good of a job y'all doing taking
- 38:55Speaker 27: advantage of turnovers? Are y'all? Are y'all putting points on
- 39:00Speaker 27: the board? Or if if we're scoring fast, you know,
- 39:03Speaker 27: are are are we taking care of our teammates as
- 39:06Speaker 27: far as like we get in the right rotation.
- 39:08Speaker 2: On the field.
- 39:08Speaker 27: And I said this the other day. Really forced us
- 39:12Speaker 27: into playing some kids and situations that they would not
- 39:14Speaker 27: have normally played in and and we had no choice.
- 39:17Speaker 27: And we we saw some kids step up and key
- 39:19Speaker 27: monents and and be reliable out there. And and that's
- 39:22Speaker 27: that's good for the future of our football team, that
- 39:24Speaker 27: that we can take thirty guys on a roster and
- 39:27Speaker 27: get something productive out of all thirty. And he really
- 39:30Speaker 27: gets you steering and in a common direction.
- 39:33Speaker 2: You know.
- 39:34Speaker 27: Yeah, we we gave up a lot of points last
- 39:36Speaker 27: year on defense, but we did that because our our
- 39:38Speaker 27: offense was not always on point either. You know, we
- 39:41Speaker 27: also through a ton of interceptions and a lot of
- 39:44Speaker 27: a lot of offensive turnovers and some of the games
- 39:47Speaker 27: that we end up losing, and we we played in
- 39:50Speaker 27: a lot of close games or within one or two scorers,
- 39:52Speaker 27: and a lot of those are we're losing because of
- 39:55Speaker 27: turnovers late in games that that the defense can't overcome
- 39:59Speaker 27: and they're ended up having to always be on the
- 40:01Speaker 27: field and those type things. And a lot of times
- 40:03Speaker 27: that things that statistics don't really show you in a
- 40:06Speaker 27: box score is is, uh, how well your defense might
- 40:09Speaker 27: be playing and always picking up the slack and just
- 40:12Speaker 27: you know, they just get overwhelmed at times.
- 40:13Speaker 26: Absolutely, And you're fishing Tarkington this Friday, Is that correct?
- 40:17Speaker 27: Yes, sir.
- 40:18Speaker 26: How do you feel about that game and what are
- 40:19Speaker 26: expectations as far as strategy and pressure goes.
- 40:23Speaker 27: Well, Uh, you know, we're we're in a good position
- 40:26Speaker 27: right now as far as as far as that goes.
- 40:29Speaker 27: Where we're want to know and they're not. You know,
- 40:31Speaker 27: I think that's a that's a mentality thing for anybody.
- 40:34Speaker 27: And I think you can get a little overconfident, that's
- 40:37Speaker 27: the biggest thing. You have a big offensive production of
- 40:40Speaker 27: the night, and uh, you know, you can get in
- 40:42Speaker 27: your head just a little bit too much and maybe
- 40:45Speaker 27: not give enough credit where it's due. And and you know,
- 40:48Speaker 27: like I said, our our offense did it excelled. But
- 40:52Speaker 27: this look that we are seeing this week is much
- 40:55Speaker 27: more aggressive. I'm gonna put a whole lot more pressure
- 40:58Speaker 27: on my quarterback and those type things. My guess is
- 41:02Speaker 27: if I if I'm them, I wouldn't just sit back
- 41:05Speaker 27: and let us pick us and pick them apart either.
- 41:06Speaker 27: I'd make us run the football a little bit at them.
- 41:08Speaker 27: So that would require us doing something that we haven't
- 41:11Speaker 27: done in the last couple of weeks is run the ball. Well,
- 41:15Speaker 27: really haven't had a chance to. So the other night
- 41:18Speaker 27: we were able to run it effectively when needed, but
- 41:21Speaker 27: not consistently enough for my liking. So I'll be curious
- 41:25Speaker 27: to see what what tarking does to us. Haven't seen
- 41:27Speaker 27: that we we threw for as much as we did
- 41:29Speaker 27: the other day. But honestly, we just we just took
- 41:30Speaker 27: what the defense gave us. And had it been a
- 41:32Speaker 27: different alignment, we would have we'd run the ball just
- 41:35Speaker 27: a little bit more. And the biggest challenges for our defense,
- 41:38Speaker 27: they're seeing a scheme. Uh Parkington runs a flex bone
- 41:42Speaker 27: and it's a scheme that uh that you don't see often.
- 41:45Speaker 27: Uh maybe once a year, sometimes once every couple of years.
- 41:49Speaker 27: It's just very uncommon. Uh requires a lot of discipline
- 41:52Speaker 27: and uh and doing your job and assignment football type things.
- 41:56Speaker 27: And if you get you get too much in your
- 41:59Speaker 27: head about where you were last week, then you stop
- 42:01Speaker 27: focusing really on where you need to be in the
- 42:03Speaker 27: wish coming. And this one's going to present a challenge
- 42:05Speaker 27: for us because I do feel like they're physically they
- 42:08Speaker 27: do some good things. They got some good kids, and
- 42:12Speaker 27: you know, just they're trying to put together new schemes
- 42:14Speaker 27: on both sides of the ball, and you know, I
- 42:17Speaker 27: just you can kind of see that that struggle with them,
- 42:20Speaker 27: But that doesn't mean that they don't have a lot
- 42:22Speaker 27: saved the way just for us type.
- 42:23Speaker 26: Deal, right, and for Rockdale to have a successful twenty
- 42:26Speaker 26: twenty five season overall, what players and positions do you
- 42:29Speaker 26: think have to grow the most to play the biggest
- 42:31Speaker 26: part for that success.
- 42:34Speaker 27: Well, right now, I think the biggest suggustion for is
- 42:36Speaker 27: on the defensive side of the ball. You know, our
- 42:39Speaker 27: linebackers are not entirely new, but I really have one
- 42:42Speaker 27: returner in that position, and you know, he's he's doing
- 42:46Speaker 27: a pretty good job. And then I've got zero really
- 42:48Speaker 27: up front on the defensive line. And and and they're
- 42:51Speaker 27: they're needing to come along quickly. They're undersized, they're not
- 42:55Speaker 27: strongest group in the world. So they're having to do
- 42:57Speaker 27: exactly what they're coach to do and not get created
- 43:00Speaker 27: on their end. So in order for us to bees,
- 43:03Speaker 27: we just can't, you know, give up thirty six points
- 43:05Speaker 27: the other night, and we've got to limit that a
- 43:07Speaker 27: little bit. You know, we're not going to be on
- 43:08Speaker 27: the fortunate end of four turnovers every game type deal. So, uh,
- 43:13Speaker 27: you know we're gonna we're gonna have to really zero
- 43:15Speaker 27: in on on the defensive end not give up big
- 43:17Speaker 27: plays in the passing game. We did a pretty good
- 43:19Speaker 27: job of that the other night. I would say that's
- 43:21Speaker 27: the first time in our two scrimmages in our game
- 43:24Speaker 27: that we we didn't give up big plays in the
- 43:26Speaker 27: passing game. You just got to keep building on that.
- 43:29Speaker 27: And then look side of that is the offensive lines
- 43:32Speaker 27: just you got to continue to come along. I said,
- 43:33Speaker 27: I'm expecting a challenge up front this week and having
- 43:36Speaker 27: to be able to run the fall football successfully. And
- 43:38Speaker 27: I think that's the next step that we have to
- 43:40Speaker 27: take is to achieve balance. We just got to be
- 43:44Speaker 27: able to run the football well when we want to
- 43:46Speaker 27: run it type thing. And just got to continue to
- 43:48Speaker 27: see growth growth out of our quarterback position. You had
- 43:51Speaker 27: the excellent week last week, but you got just want
- 43:53Speaker 27: to keep seeing him improved, not get stagnant. And then
- 43:57Speaker 27: our younger receivers. I had two senior white outs stand
- 44:00Speaker 27: out the other day, and I just I've got to
- 44:02Speaker 27: see a little bit more growth than the younger kids
- 44:04Speaker 27: coming into our program and uh, you know, just they've
- 44:07Speaker 27: got to really step up and excel for us to
- 44:11Speaker 27: take some of the pressure off of those two guys.
- 44:13Speaker 26: Right, And last question for you here just a general thing.
- 44:17Speaker 26: Your first day coaching job is definitely a rebuilding type situation.
- 44:20Speaker 26: And although it was pretty rough early on, you definitely
- 44:22Speaker 26: turned that program around. Tell me about some of the
- 44:25Speaker 26: similarities and differences to what you're trying to do to Rockdale.
- 44:29Speaker 27: Yah. Yeah, I mean you kind of saw it, and
- 44:33Speaker 27: you kind of saw it in both programs, just a
- 44:35Speaker 27: little bit of a downhill swing, you know. And as
- 44:38Speaker 27: I took this Rockdale job, I didn't necessarily see it
- 44:40Speaker 27: that way. I hadn't coaching Rockdale before. I'd always done
- 44:45Speaker 27: known there's talent in here and in the community that
- 44:48Speaker 27: comes through the program, and and some people try to
- 44:50Speaker 27: kind of warm me is that you know, that talent
- 44:52Speaker 27: level is not where it used to be, and uh,
- 44:54Speaker 27: you know, coming in that first year, it really it
- 44:56Speaker 27: really was. It was there, and uh and we had
- 44:59Speaker 27: it for a couple of years still, you know, and
- 45:01Speaker 27: that's that's just talk. It's coming. It's coming, you know.
- 45:04Speaker 27: But you you definitely see a drop a dipping talent.
- 45:07Speaker 27: This group, that's the juniors they were I guess what
- 45:10Speaker 27: people would consider kind of the start of that dropping,
- 45:13Speaker 27: uh in athletic ability a little bit. So that's that's
- 45:16Speaker 27: where we're watching, is there and below. And you know,
- 45:18Speaker 27: I've got a freshman class right now that they did
- 45:21Speaker 27: not win a junior high football game, and as JV
- 45:23Speaker 27: football players, they won their first one ever on Thursday
- 45:26Speaker 27: night last week, and uh, you know you you started
- 45:28Speaker 27: looking at similarities, like you said, to that program, you know,
- 45:31Speaker 27: Ingle Side was on a on a downhill slide. I
- 45:35Speaker 27: want to say. They've made twelve consecutive playoff appearances, and
- 45:38Speaker 27: the year before I got there, they even made that
- 45:40Speaker 27: twelfth one by going to to nine. You know, it's like,
- 45:42Speaker 27: well they keep that in track or on track, you know,
- 45:45Speaker 27: but you just got this downward decline of record happening,
- 45:50Speaker 27: and it's just it seems inevitable. So uh man, the
- 45:53Speaker 27: biggest thing I think that that really stands out to
- 45:56Speaker 27: me is just is early on, It's just it's not
- 45:58Speaker 27: a struggle to build relationships. The trust is built over
- 46:02Speaker 27: time amongst you and and the kids that you work
- 46:04Speaker 27: with and the coaches that you work with and as
- 46:06Speaker 27: you get more familiar with one another, things really start
- 46:10Speaker 27: to take place. That that faith and that trust and
- 46:13Speaker 27: one another really starts to h to grow quite a bit.
- 46:16Speaker 27: You go through all seasons together, you know, there's there's
- 46:19Speaker 27: just more of a family atmosphere, and there's there's a
- 46:21Speaker 27: lot going on behind the scenes that that it gets overlooked.
- 46:24Speaker 27: You know, it's a whole heck of a lot more
- 46:25Speaker 27: than schematic stuff going on the football field that gets
- 46:28Speaker 27: these kids to play up to their potential and get
- 46:32Speaker 27: them to trust you. So yeah, I mean, like you said,
- 46:35Speaker 27: it's both of them are relative rebuilds, you know, just
- 46:39Speaker 27: you don't like to look at rock Mill as one
- 46:41Speaker 27: of those that you're rebuilding. But I mean, at the
- 46:42Speaker 27: same time, it's you know, we've we've got three consecutive
- 46:45Speaker 27: seasons right now, three wins, you know, and it's it's
- 46:49Speaker 27: it's a flow build and as you as I got here,
- 46:53Speaker 27: you kind of looked at the future of it, and
- 46:55Speaker 27: it's probably a four or five year build until you
- 46:57Speaker 27: can start getting consistent again on the winning side of things.
- 47:00Speaker 27: And that's exactly where Ingleside was and and like I said,
- 47:04Speaker 27: just the those relationships holding on to your coaches. Making
- 47:08Speaker 27: sure the staff stay as consistent as possible is is
- 47:11Speaker 27: is pretty key and trying to continue to pull that direction.
- 47:15Speaker 27: So I said, it's gotten all those the same coaches
- 47:19Speaker 27: involved with our junior high program, and it just it
- 47:22Speaker 27: starts there. Everybody's like it starts a junior high. It
- 47:24Speaker 27: certainly does like they need to pay success at that level.
- 47:27Speaker 27: And that's where this group of juniors that didn't win
- 47:30Speaker 27: a whole lot of junior high football games. And like
- 47:32Speaker 27: I said, my freshman class that never won a junior
- 47:34Speaker 27: high football game, it's it's built somewhere. And whether you
- 47:38Speaker 27: start winning to the junior high level or to JV level,
- 47:40Speaker 27: they got to learn it somewhere or or it's just
- 47:42Speaker 27: never going to transition to Friday night. And so, uh,
- 47:45Speaker 27: you know, our sub varsity last year went six and four,
- 47:48Speaker 27: and we're hoping for the same thing with our jv
- 47:50Speaker 27: this year's is is going over five hundred and just
- 47:53Speaker 27: trying to win more than you lose. And that's uh,
- 47:56Speaker 27: sometimes that doesn't seem like a lofty goal, but that's
- 47:58Speaker 27: where we're setting them right now.
- 48:00Speaker 26: Very well, Pitt, Well, thank you so much for your time, sir.
- 48:03Speaker 26: It's always great to have you.
- 48:04Speaker 27: Absolutely man, thanks for having me, Yes, sir, all right boy.
