- 2:35Speaker 2: It's the time ball game. Jalen Flores on double.
- 2:40Speaker 7: The two two pitch the Gasparino hit towards left center.
- 2:42Speaker 6: This ball tripping down into the gap and Texas gotta
- 2:46Speaker 6: have their first lead.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Wilf Gasparino at.
- 2:49Speaker 6: RBI double coming around home is Galba.
- 2:52Speaker 8: The third of the place, not at times, Jasparino the
- 2:55Speaker 8: third base.
- 2:56Speaker 6: Texas takes the two run lead here in this Here
- 3:00Speaker 6: the O two pits to Robbie Burnette, got I'm swinging,
- 3:04Speaker 6: and Texas completes the comeback and takes this series against
- 3:09Speaker 6: the third rank Georgia Bulldogs. Final score from the dish
- 3:14Speaker 6: the Texas Longhorns seven, the Georgia Bulldogs four. Yeah, he's
- 3:21Speaker 6: leaning the ball Drid in the center.
- 3:22Speaker 2: That goes Lnger.
- 3:23Speaker 6: She's not gonna get to it over the fence. MIA's
- 3:26Speaker 6: got a home run and Texas leads. Here at the
- 3:29Speaker 6: fourth inning.
- 3:29Speaker 9: From UFCU diche Font Field. It is the finale of
- 3:33Speaker 9: the three game weekend series between the Texas Longhorns and
- 3:36Speaker 9: the Georgia Bulldogs.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Georgia with the two to one lead on the scoreboard.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Here's the stretch.
- 3:41Speaker 9: First pitch coming to Flores swings here in the lists
- 3:45Speaker 9: of flyball to Wright center, chasing McCarthy into the alley.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Back to the warning track. Dude can sing good night
- 3:50Speaker 2: to it.
- 3:52Speaker 9: Windided perhaps, but it's a home run off oo Taco
- 3:56Speaker 9: of the right field wall and the Longhorns.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Are backed in front.
- 4:00Speaker 9: The two three balls, two strikes, two outs, Balantis the stretch,
- 4:08Speaker 9: the three to two pitch strike.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Three called slight offer, goes.
- 4:14Speaker 10: Down looking and Dylan Vlampis closes out his fourth consecutive
- 4:21Speaker 10: inning and is able to do it with a strike
- 4:24Speaker 10: out every time.
- 4:26Speaker 9: Here's the three vault, one strike pitch. Galvan swings. Let's
- 4:29Speaker 9: a high fly ball, this one out the deep right center.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Back to the warning track. You can say good night
- 4:34Speaker 2: to it.
- 4:35Speaker 11: A walk off home run to end it, it's a
- 4:39Speaker 11: sweep of the third right Georgia Bulldogs. Ryland Galvon walks
- 4:44Speaker 11: it off over the right field wall and Texas sweeps
- 4:49Speaker 11: Georgia to win the series. It was quite a weaken
- 4:54Speaker 11: on the diamond baseball and softball for Texas. Good afternoon, everybody,
- 4:59Speaker 11: Welcome to the pro here on Sports Video AM thirteen
- 5:03Speaker 11: hundred Zone. Glad to be back in the studio with you,
- 5:06Speaker 11: Craig Way, Cameron Parker. Like we said, we can count
- 5:08Speaker 11: the number of days on one hand the times that
- 5:11Speaker 11: we've been in the studio of the past month. But
- 5:13Speaker 11: we're back and we'll back by and large. I will
- 5:17Speaker 11: be out at UFCU dish f Field tomorrow, but by
- 5:20Speaker 11: and large, over the next couple of weeks will be
- 5:22Speaker 11: largely in studio. And what a weekend it was for
- 5:24Speaker 11: both Texas Baseball and Texas Softball Softball sweeping out the
- 5:28Speaker 11: Missouri Tigers with a double header sweep yesterday. Tea in
- 5:31Speaker 11: Cavan with a no hitter in Game one of the series,
- 5:36Speaker 11: then comes back and saves Game two and then goes
- 5:42Speaker 11: the distance one hundred and thirty pitches and wins Game three.
- 5:44Speaker 11: I don't think there's any doubts she'll be SEC Pitcher
- 5:47Speaker 11: of the Week. SEC Freshman of the Week on the
- 5:51Speaker 11: baseball side went to Dylan Balantis, who was nails all
- 5:56Speaker 11: the way through the course of the weekend for the
- 5:59Speaker 11: Long Horns and wound up being the winning pitcher yesterday,
- 6:03Speaker 11: so he earns SEC Freshman of the Week honors, does Philantis,
- 6:10Speaker 11: and leading the Long Horns to that sweep, he had
- 6:15Speaker 11: a save and win against Georgia in his two outings
- 6:19Speaker 11: nine strikeouts over five and a third scoreless innings against
- 6:23Speaker 11: the number two offense in the country. Now on Friday,
- 6:27Speaker 11: he recorded the final four outs on eight pitches to
- 6:30Speaker 11: pick up his seventh save, and then yesterday afternoon he
- 6:33Speaker 11: retired twelve to fourteen batters he faced.
- 6:36Speaker 2: The two who reached. One was a four pitch walk.
- 6:38Speaker 9: It was odd to the number nine hitter in the
- 6:42Speaker 9: seventh inning after he'd struck out the first two batters,
- 6:45Speaker 9: and then then he came back on his strike how
- 6:47Speaker 9: to get out of inding. And then in the ninth
- 6:51Speaker 9: he gave up a hit and or maybe it was
- 6:54Speaker 9: a tenth an infield single and then came back and
- 6:57Speaker 9: finished it off for there so he.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Now in conference play.
- 7:03Speaker 9: Valantas is now allowed to run in thirteen in the
- 7:05Speaker 9: third innings, one to zero and six saves in conference
- 7:08Speaker 9: play and issued only two walks and twenty strikeouts over
- 7:12Speaker 9: his first seven SEC appearances. Then there was the hitting
- 7:17Speaker 9: will Gasparino continues to swing the hot bat also Jalen
- 7:23Speaker 9: Flores with a couple of big home runs, and then
- 7:25Speaker 9: of course the Coudah with the walkoff that was Ryland
- 7:28Speaker 9: Galvan opposite field. We said it before the game yesterday,
- 7:32Speaker 9: Mike cardball hard and that anything that's going to go
- 7:35Speaker 9: out is going to go out.
- 7:35Speaker 2: To write.
- 7:36Speaker 9: All five home runs that were hit yesterday and we're
- 7:40Speaker 9: all hit or four two by Georgia, two by Texas
- 7:43Speaker 9: all went out to right field. So Texas tied for
- 7:47Speaker 9: first on top of the SEC standings. Of course, long
- 7:50Speaker 9: rn Softball number one in the country and on top
- 7:52Speaker 9: of the SEC softball standings. Texas up to number two
- 7:56Speaker 9: now in the D one baseball dot Com rankings, and
- 8:02Speaker 9: Arkansas is the new number one team after Tennessee. Inexplicably,
- 8:06Speaker 9: after no hitting and run ruling, Texas A and M
- 8:09Speaker 9: on Thursday winds up losing, or on Friday winds up
- 8:13Speaker 9: losing both ends of a doubleheader to lose the series
- 8:17Speaker 9: and actually got run ruled in one of those. So
- 8:19Speaker 9: the Aggies showing some life after going starting off one
- 8:22Speaker 9: to nine in Southeastern Conference play, the Aggies come back
- 8:25Speaker 9: with back to back wins over previously number one ranked Tennessee.
- 8:30Speaker 9: So SEC played very very interesting. Been a busy time,
- 8:34Speaker 9: interesting time as well. Cameron Parker is the producer. That's
- 8:37Speaker 9: Cameron D. Parker the he standing for coming from his
- 8:42Speaker 9: favorite pro football team that has been kind of quite
- 8:44Speaker 9: of late, those Dallas Cowboys. There's been a lot of
- 8:48Speaker 9: trade speculation and things of that nature, but nothing new
- 8:53Speaker 9: to report there, which I know is nothing new to you,
- 8:55Speaker 9: Cameron Winning comes to your favorite pro football team.
- 8:58Speaker 7: I haven't even followed a lick of an NFL news
- 9:00Speaker 7: in the past weeks three months. Maybe I'm so far
- 9:05Speaker 7: out in the Dallas Cowboys right now. But hey, you
- 9:07Speaker 7: know what, it's a Monday, and it's a Master's Monday. Correct,
- 9:11Speaker 7: That's what we should be talking about here.
- 9:12Speaker 2: That's true. That's true.
- 9:14Speaker 9: Maybe you should pull up the when we come out
- 9:16Speaker 9: of the Break or something of the AUGUSTA National Music
- 9:19Speaker 9: the Master's Theme or.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Something like that.
- 9:23Speaker 9: Today, because it is a Master's Monday and the week
- 9:28Speaker 9: leading up to an inclusive of the first of the
- 9:31Speaker 9: four major championships on the Pro Golf Tour this year,
- 9:34Speaker 9: so there is that. There's also a college basketball national
- 9:38Speaker 9: championship game to be decided before we get that first
- 9:40Speaker 9: of all, of course, the women's national Championship was decided yesterday.
- 9:47Speaker 9: Anybody that has followed the game really really closely this
- 9:52Speaker 9: season and especially over the last month probably would not
- 9:57Speaker 9: have been shocked even by the margin of victory that
- 10:01Speaker 9: Yukon had in pounding South Carolina yesterday. Remember a month
- 10:05Speaker 9: ago they went in there, and about six weeks ago
- 10:09Speaker 9: it was the same day that Texas PATTLSU women here
- 10:13Speaker 9: that Yukon went into Columbia and blew out the game Cocks.
- 10:16Speaker 9: They did it again in the National Championship, and this
- 10:18Speaker 9: was the course after South Carolina pretty much dominated Texas
- 10:21Speaker 9: to win on Friday night. They won by seventeen points,
- 10:23Speaker 9: seventy four to fifty seven. The log worn season ended
- 10:26Speaker 9: at thirty four and thirty five and four and their
- 10:32Speaker 9: highest win total since their first year in NCAA played
- 10:37Speaker 9: nineteen eighty one eighty two in the old AIAW, which
- 10:41Speaker 9: was the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women that before
- 10:45Speaker 9: the NCAA recognized women's athletics. In the early eighties, they
- 10:50Speaker 9: had aia W for women and Texas played in a
- 10:54Speaker 9: couple of AAAW championship matchups, didn't win when played in
- 10:58Speaker 9: a couple.
- 10:59Speaker 2: They won thirty five ball.
- 11:00Speaker 9: Games in the seventy eight to seventy nine season, but
- 11:03Speaker 9: they had not won thirty five ball games or they
- 11:08Speaker 9: won thirty seven that year. They had not won as
- 11:10Speaker 9: many as thirty five since their first year eighty one
- 11:12Speaker 9: eighty two when they got to the finals and lost
- 11:14Speaker 9: to Rutgers in the NCAA Championship, and they won thirty five,
- 11:18Speaker 9: had another step forward for the program. They had been
- 11:21Speaker 9: to the Elite Eight three of the four prior seasons
- 11:23Speaker 9: under Vick Schaeffer, four out of five to the Elite eight,
- 11:26Speaker 9: to now a trip to the final four. So disappointment, yes,
- 11:30Speaker 9: that they were unable to finish at South Carolina played
- 11:33Speaker 9: outstanding on Friday night in Tampa, Florida, but an excellent
- 11:38Speaker 9: experience for the Texas women who will be coming back
- 11:41Speaker 9: to the program next year. Most of the team will
- 11:44Speaker 9: be returning and they've got some young, exciting players coming in.
- 11:46Speaker 9: We'll see also have Vic Schaeffer navigates through the portal
- 11:51Speaker 9: to get a couple of things as well, a couple
- 11:54Speaker 9: of added pieces for his roster. We'll talk about added
- 11:57Speaker 9: pieces for the men's roster coming up, and yes, a
- 12:00Speaker 9: preview of the National Championship of the men's side the
- 12:03Speaker 9: women's side, All Yukon blowing out South Carolina they did
- 12:07Speaker 9: so again, winning.
- 12:09Speaker 2: By a final count of eighty two to fifty nine.
- 12:11Speaker 9: So they won handily in that contest, and Yukon wins
- 12:16Speaker 9: another national championship for Gino Arim, a first one in
- 12:19Speaker 9: nine years for the Huskies, but they win one there,
- 12:22Speaker 9: all right, Coming up, we'll talk to more basketball, a
- 12:25Speaker 9: lot of baseball to discuss for Texas where they are
- 12:28Speaker 9: right now, and tonight's college basketball national championship we have
- 12:33Speaker 9: inconceivable later on this hour, so we've got a lot
- 12:36Speaker 9: to get to here on a Monday. Glad to have
- 12:38Speaker 9: you with us, Glad to be back home here on
- 12:40Speaker 9: thirteen under the Zone.
- 12:46Speaker 12: It's the Craig Way Show with the voice of the
- 12:49Speaker 12: Texas Longhorns and Hall of Fame broadcaster Craig Way.
- 13:05Speaker 9: On a Monday afternoon, coming off huge weekend for long
- 13:11Speaker 9: worn baseball and softball, and the end of the season
- 13:15Speaker 9: for Texas women's basketball falling in the summer final round
- 13:18Speaker 9: of the Final Four, losing on Friday night. By the way,
- 13:24Speaker 9: if you'd like to join in the conversation this afternoon,
- 13:27Speaker 9: you're more than welcome to text the program if you
- 13:31Speaker 9: would like to do that, Very easy to do. All

- 14:40Speaker 9: Today on the text on already, So he said call
- 14:43Speaker 9: me crazy if you be a gas Burno's followed through
- 14:46Speaker 9: on his swing. Looks like Mark McGuire, Wow, there's going
- 14:50Speaker 9: back some old school Kim. You had a chance to
- 14:53Speaker 9: call it Will Gasparino home run, right if you did,
- 14:56Speaker 9: you know, he didn't homer. He get a two run double.
- 15:00Speaker 2: That's it.
- 15:00Speaker 7: It was the double that he had on Saturday. But
- 15:02Speaker 7: I have not called the Gasprino home run yet. I've
- 15:04Speaker 7: called a lot of base hits from him.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:06Speaker 7: Usually I hope he performs pretty well when I am
- 15:09Speaker 7: on the mic. And I'm proud to say Craig because
- 15:11Speaker 7: I was a little bit worried that I was. I'm
- 15:14Speaker 7: not going to say a jinxer, you're worried about being
- 15:17Speaker 7: the boy Sumpter Jinks. But you know, the Texas record
- 15:20Speaker 7: when I'm on the broadcast call for baseball has not
- 15:24Speaker 7: been well. Really, it's not been well. I believe I leave.
- 15:28Speaker 7: Let's see. I think now I'm two and one. Okay,
- 15:30Speaker 7: you had to win over Saint John's. No, they lost
- 15:33Speaker 7: that game. They lost that game, beat San Diego, but
- 15:36Speaker 7: lost to Saint John's on Tuesday Night. That was part
- 15:38Speaker 7: of that stretch last season when Texas was having trouble
- 15:42Speaker 7: on Tuesday nights, and you know a lot of that.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Was the pitching. Of course you're not having your number
- 15:45Speaker 2: one starter out there, but.
- 15:48Speaker 7: Wasn't wasn't great, And coach David Pierce, very nice guy,
- 15:51Speaker 7: was kind of looking at me like, I don't know
- 15:53Speaker 7: if I.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Want to for that dug out here? Okay? All right?
- 15:58Speaker 2: Uh okay?
- 15:59Speaker 9: So yeah, two and so you wouldn't okay, so you
- 16:01Speaker 9: called it winnever San Diego.
- 16:03Speaker 7: It might have been a flip flop. I think it
- 16:05Speaker 7: was a loss of San Diego on a Saturday. Then
- 16:07Speaker 7: maybe it was a one over Saint John's.
- 16:08Speaker 2: I know it was. No, it was a winner for
- 16:09Speaker 2: San Diegause.
- 16:10Speaker 9: I was driving back from Houston calling the basketball game
- 16:13Speaker 9: and I was listening to you call that game. I
- 16:15Speaker 9: think you were working with Hardball Harje on that one.
- 16:18Speaker 9: W Harje and thornhill Worth the last season and then
- 16:21Speaker 9: Harge again on Saturday. Okay, all right, so it worked
- 16:24Speaker 9: out well. Neither of you guys, we were a jeans.
- 16:27Speaker 9: Neither of you were big poison. David Salzman thanks to
- 16:30Speaker 9: David filling in. Sometimes you'll catch David on some of
- 16:35Speaker 9: the SEC Network Plus telecast of Long Horn games. David
- 16:39Speaker 9: is a Texas graduate as well, was our statistician, as
- 16:42Speaker 9: he likes to joke.
- 16:43Speaker 2: For sixty sixty three.
- 16:45Speaker 9: He was our statistician for Bill Schoening and myself in
- 16:49Speaker 9: that nineteen ninety seven Long warn football season, John mckamick's
- 16:52Speaker 9: final season when they lost to UCLA sixty sixty three, and.
- 16:58Speaker 2: He was our statistician that season.
- 17:00Speaker 9: But David fine broadcaster, and I appreciate him, and I
- 17:03Speaker 9: appreciate you guys stepping in as I was wrapping up
- 17:06Speaker 9: the women's basketball season there and then, and then of
- 17:09Speaker 9: course I'm back yesterday, and you know what goes through
- 17:11Speaker 9: my mind. I'm not a superstitious guy, but I'm thinking, Okay,
- 17:15Speaker 9: so they've won two games already against Georgia. They've won
- 17:20Speaker 9: two games, they won the series. So what happens with
- 17:25Speaker 9: the number one dude back in the chair here on Sunday. Well,
- 17:29Speaker 9: Ryland Gallant took care of that, and Will and Dylan
- 17:32Speaker 9: Valantis took care of that.
- 17:33Speaker 2: The log Ruds took care of that. They won. So
- 17:35Speaker 2: that's why I said the announcer Jings' see, but.
- 17:37Speaker 7: You've called me, You've called College World Series championship victories
- 17:41Speaker 7: for Texas.
- 17:42Speaker 2: There's no jinks for you there. That's for you there, Okay,
- 17:45Speaker 2: all right.
- 17:45Speaker 7: I think you're clear. I think you beat. The Hards
- 17:48Speaker 7: accused me of being in a jinx on air during
- 17:50Speaker 7: the game, really so that hurt my feelings a little bit.
- 17:53Speaker 9: Feeling well, both you guys were good, fine, it was
- 17:56Speaker 9: It was good having hardball hearts with us on throughout
- 17:59Speaker 9: the course of the week. The Redhead rejoins me tomorrow
- 18:02Speaker 9: night wells on back of Keith Moreland to be back
- 18:04Speaker 9: with the Keith, uh will be back with me tomorrow
- 18:08Speaker 9: and Keith and I will be in lex in Kentucky
- 18:10Speaker 9: this weekend for the matchup with the Kentucky Wildcats. As
- 18:13Speaker 9: Texas will play the three game weekend series with the Wildcats.
- 18:17Speaker 9: As far as the Texas saying call me crazy, Gasprino
- 18:20Speaker 9: has followed.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Through on his swing.
- 18:22Speaker 9: Looks like Mark McGuire, let me say this, uh, Will
- 18:25Speaker 9: Gasprino has done a lot of work on his swing,
- 18:29Speaker 9: and he's got a lot of work and a lot
- 18:30Speaker 9: of help from Troy Tulowitzki as well, and and Tulo's
- 18:36Speaker 9: worked with him pretty extensively. Nolan Kane as well, Long
- 18:39Speaker 9: Runs associate head coach David and Uh. And obviously Jim Slosnagel,
- 18:44Speaker 9: the whole coaching staff has been very hands on with
- 18:46Speaker 9: this groove and worked with him diligently, both in the
- 18:49Speaker 9: hitting and the pitching. What Max Wiener's done with the
- 18:52Speaker 9: pitching staff has been most impressive.
- 18:55Speaker 2: And this so this.
- 18:57Speaker 9: Team plays with real loose, confident air about them. They
- 19:04Speaker 9: don't worry about the fact that they get down the game.
- 19:08Speaker 9: Cameron called them down for nothing going into the middle
- 19:11Speaker 9: innings and rallied back to win that. They've had some
- 19:15Speaker 9: other games where they had to rally back and win
- 19:17Speaker 9: this season. Uh, And and they've done that. So yeah, Uh,
- 19:22Speaker 9: they've done that.
- 19:23Speaker 2: And they they also.
- 19:27Speaker 9: Up to number two in the poll behind Arkansas and
- 19:31Speaker 9: LSU was number three in the rankings. In fact, I
- 19:34Speaker 9: think that pull this up, Cam. I was looking at
- 19:37Speaker 9: this this morning. Uh, and this is this is what
- 19:41Speaker 9: folks talk about when they talk about the SEC and
- 19:44Speaker 9: you know, whatever you say, it just means more whatever
- 19:46Speaker 9: you want to say on that that kind of thing.
- 19:48Speaker 9: But my point was about the SEC was if you
- 19:54Speaker 9: look at the rankings, Uh, it's it's pretty prolific.
- 19:59Speaker 10: Uh.
- 20:00Speaker 9: What is what's out there right now with the Southeastern Conference.
- 20:05Speaker 9: And I'm just pulling this up even as we speak
- 20:06Speaker 9: right now, because I want to make sure I don't
- 20:09Speaker 9: want to add it wrong or say it wrong. I
- 20:15Speaker 9: want to make sure that I've got it right.
- 20:18Speaker 2: And I'll tell you what. Let me just yeah here
- 20:22Speaker 2: it is okay.
- 20:24Speaker 9: So the top twenty five rankings, Arkansas is number one,
- 20:29Speaker 9: as we mentioned, Texas is number two, LSU was third,
- 20:35Speaker 9: Clemson is four, Tennessee is fifth, Ole Miss six, Georgia seven,
- 20:40Speaker 9: Oregon State eight, Florida State nine, UCLA ten. If you're
- 20:44Speaker 9: counting the top three teams in the poll are all
- 20:49Speaker 9: seas three sec for the top five, five of the
- 20:53Speaker 9: top six, six of the top seven, and then the
- 20:58Speaker 9: second ten begins with Auburn at number eleven. Alabama is twelve,
- 21:04Speaker 9: So that would be eight of the top twelve that
- 21:10Speaker 9: I get to write Arkansas, Texas, LSU, Tennessee, Ole, Miss, Georgia, Auburn, Alabama.
- 21:18Speaker 2: That's eight of the top twelve.
- 21:20Speaker 9: Then Ucrveryne is thirteen, Louisville fourteen, Oregon fifteen, North Carolina sixteen,
- 21:25Speaker 9: Vanderbilt is seventeen. That's nine of the top seventeen, and Georgia,
- 21:30Speaker 9: Texas eighteen Oklahoma's nineteen. That's ten of the top nineteen teams.
- 21:38Speaker 9: Ten SEC schools in the top nineteen. There By the way,
- 21:42Speaker 9: outside of the SEC, there's a pretty big series this week. Kansas,
- 21:48Speaker 9: who is on top of the Big twelve standings with TCU,
- 21:52Speaker 9: plays TCU this week. Kansas got into the poll this
- 21:55Speaker 9: week at number twenty two. TCU not in the poll yet.
- 21:58Speaker 9: Kansas State had dropped out out after being swept by
- 22:01Speaker 9: Oklahoma State. So that's another series to keep an eye on,
- 22:07Speaker 9: is that TCU Kansas series because Kansas is having its
- 22:11Speaker 9: best season in many many years on the diamond on
- 22:15Speaker 9: that okay, I mentioned Texas being ranked where they are
- 22:21Speaker 9: right now. Now to college basketball National Championship game is tonight.
- 22:28Speaker 9: It is Florida against Houston. Some folks thought it was
- 22:33Speaker 9: definitely going to be Duke. I think most people thought
- 22:35Speaker 9: it was definitely going to be Duke when they were
- 22:36Speaker 9: up fourteen with about what seven minutes to go in
- 22:39Speaker 9: the game.
- 22:40Speaker 2: And then.
- 22:43Speaker 9: There's been a lot of analysis on what happened to
- 22:46Speaker 9: them over the final really five minutes of the basketball game.
- 22:49Speaker 9: Some said they weren't aggressive enough driving to the hoop
- 22:52Speaker 9: on some of that some said you used to give
- 22:54Speaker 9: Houston credit playing a lot better defense. Duke failed to
- 22:56Speaker 9: make shots. There were some calls that went again Duke
- 23:00Speaker 9: as well. I think all of that is true. I'll
- 23:05Speaker 9: tell you what also boils down to it for me.
- 23:09Speaker 9: Duke had a six point lead with a minute to go.
- 23:13Speaker 9: It was sixty seven sixty one. They kind of pulled
- 23:18Speaker 9: the trigger pretty quickly on a three pointer, missed it.
- 23:23Speaker 9: Houston came down, got the rebound. I think it was
- 23:25Speaker 9: Emmanuel Sharp hits a three, and now it's cut to three.
- 23:28Speaker 9: It's sixty seven sixty four, with about forty seconds to go,
- 23:33Speaker 9: maybe forty three seconds. They end down the ball. Duke
- 23:36Speaker 9: in bounds the ball quickly and they're bringing it up
- 23:38Speaker 9: the floor, and I forgot who was bringing it up
- 23:44Speaker 9: the floor, but Cooper flag was wide open, and instead
- 23:50Speaker 9: he passed the ball to Proctor.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Proctor is the weakest free throw shooter on the team.
- 23:54Speaker 9: He gets fouled sixty eight percent, but still by far
- 23:57Speaker 9: the others were in the high eighties to low ninety.
- 24:00Speaker 9: He's even on the free front percentages including flak. So
- 24:03Speaker 9: Proctor goes to the free throw line, misses the front
- 24:06Speaker 9: end of the one in one and then that sets
- 24:08Speaker 9: in motion what happens for Houston to come down to
- 24:10Speaker 9: tie it, and then du missing another shot.
- 24:13Speaker 2: And then Houston getting the game winner and all that.
- 24:16Speaker 9: So there's little things mixed in with some of those
- 24:19Speaker 9: big things.
- 24:21Speaker 2: I thought both teams were well coached.
- 24:23Speaker 9: Galvin Sampson did a heck of a job with his
- 24:24Speaker 9: guys down the stretch to help get him to that point.
- 24:27Speaker 9: Now they play Florida tonight and what could be one
- 24:31Speaker 9: of the most bruising physical college basketball games, certainly ever
- 24:38Speaker 9: inter national championship game, I think on both sides, because
- 24:44Speaker 9: neither side is gonna you know, they will expect no quarter,
- 24:49Speaker 9: they will accept no quarter, They will go ahead and
- 24:52Speaker 9: just bludgeon the other team. So what that stands to
- 24:56Speaker 9: reason then, is which team can stay out of foul difficulty,
- 25:00Speaker 9: because you know, if some of Houston's bigs wind up
- 25:05Speaker 9: getting in the foul difficulty, same story with Florida as well,
- 25:10Speaker 9: it could tip the scale one way or the other.
- 25:12Speaker 9: And both teams shoot the three, like shooting the three pointer,
- 25:15Speaker 9: and if they can knock down threes, it might throw
- 25:18Speaker 9: the other team off balance. But I think this will
- 25:20Speaker 9: be a good National championship game tonight.
- 25:22Speaker 7: I'm super excited for it, Craig. I mean, these two
- 25:24Speaker 7: teams have been actually grinding through the tournament, and there's
- 25:28Speaker 7: been certain points where it looked like both teams are
- 25:31Speaker 7: possibly going to have their season come to an end.
- 25:33Speaker 7: I mean, the Houston Gonzaga game in the second round
- 25:36Speaker 7: came down right to the wire. Gonzaga had a chance
- 25:39Speaker 7: to win that game, and then of course Houston just
- 25:41Speaker 7: absolutely decimated Tennessee, and of course down by fourteen, then
- 25:46Speaker 7: down by four and then down by six, and you know,
- 25:48Speaker 7: if Duken just make some free throws are inbound the basketball,
- 25:52Speaker 7: we could be talking about Duke and Florida. On the
- 25:55Speaker 7: Florida side, I think they've trailed in every game except
- 25:59Speaker 7: for the first at some point, and maybe they were
- 26:01Speaker 7: down to nothing in that game, but they have really
- 26:04Speaker 7: played well in the second half. I mean, what Clayton
- 26:06Speaker 7: did against Texas Tech incredible. I mean, that's a highlight
- 26:10Speaker 7: reel that we're gonna be watching for years to come,
- 26:13Speaker 7: because if not for his scoring broads and the step
- 26:15Speaker 7: back threes, we're talking about maybe an Auburn Houston National
- 26:19Speaker 7: championship or a Texas Tech Houston championship. But these two teams,
- 26:24Speaker 7: it looks like at certain points they have been dead,
- 26:27Speaker 7: but they have come back from behind and just shows
- 26:30Speaker 7: you how tough they are, right. I Mean, we've known Craig,
- 26:33Speaker 7: me and you about how tough Houston is because obviously
- 26:36Speaker 7: Texas and their relationship with h Town coach Sampson. Obviously
- 26:41Speaker 7: he's well known for how tough his teams have played.
- 26:43Speaker 7: And they have brought that to the Big Twelve, and
- 26:46Speaker 7: they brought to the tournament and in Florida, we saw
- 26:47Speaker 7: Florida first hand in Gainesville. I mean from there it
- 26:50Speaker 7: felt like, okay, this is I felt like Auburn and
- 26:52Speaker 7: Florida were the two best teams in the country and
- 26:55Speaker 7: not surprised at both made to the final four.
- 26:57Speaker 2: And it's going to be a hard, in physical game.
- 27:00Speaker 7: It won't be I don't think it's going to be
- 27:01Speaker 7: like ninety five to ninety Craig, So it's it's gonna
- 27:05Speaker 7: be definitely a tight game. I mean, these two teams
- 27:07Speaker 7: have got to be exhausted. It's been some physical basketball.
- 27:09Speaker 7: I mean you could argue that. I mean, the final
- 27:12Speaker 7: four games could have been national championship itself because of
- 27:14Speaker 7: the two teams, the four teams playing it, and the
- 27:17Speaker 7: way the games were played. So it's going to be
- 27:19Speaker 7: fun and can't think of a better way in the
- 27:21Speaker 7: college basketball season.
- 27:22Speaker 9: In the case of the Florida Auburn game, Auburn, remember
- 27:25Speaker 9: had an eight point halftime league yep, and then it's
- 27:27Speaker 9: been largely theorized that they didn't get as aggressive done that.
- 27:30Speaker 9: I think Florida defended them better as well, and jane
- 27:32Speaker 9: I Brown was not the factor in the second half
- 27:34Speaker 9: that he was in the first half and for that matter,
- 27:36Speaker 9: throughout a lot of the tournament as well.
- 27:39Speaker 2: So Florida knocks them outs.
- 27:42Speaker 9: You mentioned what Clayton did and then the win over
- 27:45Speaker 9: Texas text peak of Texas Tech.
- 27:46Speaker 2: I don't know if if folks saw this.
- 27:48Speaker 9: Darien Williams has entered the Transfer portal the Red Raider
- 27:52Speaker 9: stand out and also Baylor guard the freshman Robert Wright
- 27:57Speaker 9: all Big Twelve Honorable mention and was a member of
- 28:00Speaker 9: the All Freshman team also is entering the portal. The
- 28:04Speaker 9: average eleven a half points and forrests per game as well.
- 28:07Speaker 9: We'll talk more about those sorts of things and some
- 28:10Speaker 9: college basketball, but up next we do have inconceivable for
- 28:13Speaker 9: a Monday afternoon.
- 28:14Speaker 2: That's next. Here. I'm thirteen under the zone.
- 28:15Speaker 9: Craig Way, alongside the producer Cameron Parker, and we're with
- 28:19Speaker 9: you up until five o'clock each and every after and
- 28:22Speaker 9: out tomorrow. We should point out we'll actually get a
- 28:26Speaker 9: little bit later start on the program because we do
- 28:28Speaker 9: have a Round Rock Express game to bring you. Ryland
- 28:33Speaker 9: Kobra actually will be bringing the game to you, you know.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Be out at Dell Diamond. And it's the it's the
- 28:45Speaker 2: annual is it the drug awareness and education.
- 28:50Speaker 9: Game that they that they that they have like during
- 28:55Speaker 9: the school day's Education Day, that's what that's what it is.
- 28:58Speaker 2: It's it's called Education Day.
- 29:02Speaker 9: And that'll be the game tomorrow afternoon at DL Diamond
- 29:06Speaker 9: playing by the way, and I just noticed this the
- 29:09Speaker 9: other day. They're playing the Dodgers Triple A team, which
- 29:15Speaker 9: is Oklahoma City. Now, when you filled in for Ryland
- 29:20Speaker 9: last year, they were weren't they called what Oklahoma City
- 29:24Speaker 9: Baseball Club or something because they had been Oklahoma City
- 29:31Speaker 9: Dodgers and then even though they are still the Dodgers
- 29:36Speaker 9: Triple A affiliate, they are not owned by the Dodgers
- 29:43Speaker 9: and if I remember hearing about this correctly, then kind
- 29:47Speaker 9: of came the directive that they needed to change their
- 29:52Speaker 9: name because they weren't owned by the Dodgers.
- 29:56Speaker 7: If I'm if I'm remembering this correctly. At the I
- 30:00Speaker 7: think so new ownership group came in that wasn't the Dodgers,
- 30:02Speaker 7: and so they had to rename, and that they took
- 30:05Speaker 7: a year off kind of just waiting, kind of like
- 30:07Speaker 7: the Utah Hockey Club was waiting for a year before that.
- 30:11Speaker 2: They still are.
- 30:11Speaker 7: They chose their name, but okay see, waited a year
- 30:14Speaker 7: and then they ended up picking their team name.
- 30:17Speaker 9: How about that? So they were the Oklahoma City Dodger. Now,
- 30:23Speaker 9: for those of us who remember when they were Arrangers
- 30:26Speaker 9: Triple A team, they were the Oklahoma City RedHawks for
- 30:31Speaker 9: years agoing back for years when Keith Morland was playing
- 30:34Speaker 9: for the when they were the Phillies Triple A they
- 30:36Speaker 9: were the Oklahoma City eighty nine Ers, named for the
- 30:40Speaker 9: year that not that Oklahoma became a state. They didn't
- 30:44Speaker 9: become a state until nineteen oh seven. It was still
- 30:46Speaker 9: called Indian Territory and all that, but they opened it
- 30:50Speaker 9: to settlement at eighteen eighty nine with the land rush,
- 30:53Speaker 9: hence the name Sooners, you know, the ones who jumped
- 30:59Speaker 9: the deadline or the start time. That's why some Longhorn
- 31:06Speaker 9: fans have taken a calling them the land thieves, you know.
- 31:09Speaker 9: But anyway, they were called the eighty nine Ers for years,
- 31:13Speaker 9: and then they became the Oklahoma City red Hawks for
- 31:18Speaker 9: a long time, and then they were the Oklahoma red Hawks,
- 31:27Speaker 9: and then after that, then when the Dodgers had ownership
- 31:30Speaker 9: in them, and they were the Oklahoma City Dodgers. And
- 31:33Speaker 9: then they got a new ownership group that was not
- 31:36Speaker 9: part of the Dodgers ownership group. So they were instructed
- 31:39Speaker 9: that they were going to have to change their name,
- 31:41Speaker 9: and so they did so. Now they're the Oklahoma City Comets.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Comets.
- 31:49Speaker 9: I was telling my youngest son about that yesterday and
- 31:52Speaker 9: he goes, isn't that the name of a WNBA team?
- 31:54Speaker 9: A said, it used to be used to be the
- 31:57Speaker 9: Houston Comments for a while. My dad grew up in
- 32:02Speaker 9: a town where Cameron Parker played golf. Before Ashboro, North Carolina.
- 32:06Speaker 9: My dad was from Ashborough. He was an Ashborough Blue Comet.
- 32:09Speaker 9: That was their name. There's no comment, by the way,
- 32:13Speaker 9: in Texas high school football mascot lore No comments on that.
- 32:18Speaker 2: A little bit surprising.
- 32:20Speaker 9: I always thought if I ever owned a minor league
- 32:22Speaker 9: baseball team down along the coast of North Carolina, you know,
- 32:28Speaker 9: maybe near Shiloh, where a lot of fans would come
- 32:30Speaker 9: down from Wilmington or up from North Turntle Beach or whatever,
- 32:33Speaker 9: I would call them the Coastal Commets. Just call them
- 32:36Speaker 9: the Coastal Commets, because that's that's down along the South Brunswick.
- 32:42Speaker 7: Is that one of your dreams. I haven't heard this before.
- 32:43Speaker 7: You wanted to own a minor league baseball club.
- 32:46Speaker 2: All Over the years I've thought of how like, you
- 32:48Speaker 2: know what you do?
- 32:48Speaker 6: Know?
- 32:48Speaker 2: Want to really? You know?
- 32:49Speaker 9: When it really hit home for me when my hometown
- 32:53Speaker 9: built a brand new downtown ballpark, beautiful downtown ballpark, Greensboro,
- 32:58Speaker 9: North Carolina, because they used to play an old Memorial stadium.
- 33:00Speaker 9: If I have ever seen bulldoorum, you've seen that ballpark.
- 33:02Speaker 9: It's in there and there's football games that are played
- 33:06Speaker 9: in there. My high school played a football game in
- 33:08Speaker 9: there one time, at Old War Memorial Stadium. It was
- 33:10Speaker 9: built as a tribute and honoring World War One veterans.
- 33:15Speaker 9: That stadium opened in nineteen twenty six. It's still around
- 33:20Speaker 9: and they still have like some amateur baseball games. North
- 33:23Speaker 9: Carolina A and T play some games there. There's some
- 33:25Speaker 9: college games played there, but no more minor league games there.
- 33:28Speaker 9: But they had minor league baseball in there for ever
- 33:30Speaker 9: and ever, and I never had a team called the
- 33:31Speaker 9: Greensboro Bats. Then they had a team, they had a
- 33:35Speaker 9: Hornets team, They had all these different team names. But
- 33:37Speaker 9: then they built a new ballpark downtown, beautiful new ballpark,
- 33:42Speaker 9: and the first time I went in, I thought, what
- 33:43Speaker 9: used to be here when I was a kid, and
- 33:45Speaker 9: it was driving me crazy. And then remember it used
- 33:47Speaker 9: to be an old downtown Sears and Roebucks store where
- 33:50Speaker 9: you're going. Its first time I ever wrote an escalator
- 33:52Speaker 9: back then when I was a little kid in the
- 33:53Speaker 9: late sixties or whatever. But there's a beautiful downtown ballpark there,
- 33:58Speaker 9: home of the Greensburg Grasshoppers of the Carolina League. And
- 34:04Speaker 9: when they did the minor league contraction a few years ago,
- 34:06Speaker 9: Greensboro was a low A ball club.
- 34:08Speaker 2: They got elevated.
- 34:09Speaker 9: It's a high A ball there and are thriving as
- 34:14Speaker 9: a single A affiliate, I believe of the Pirates, and
- 34:18Speaker 9: it's a great Ballpark, and when I went there a
- 34:20Speaker 9: couple of times, I thought it'd be fun to own
- 34:22Speaker 9: the minor league team, you know, if you had the
- 34:23Speaker 9: funds and the means and all that other kind of stuff.
- 34:26Speaker 9: And if I had one, I would want to have
- 34:28Speaker 9: one down along where I go on vacation down along
- 34:31Speaker 9: the coast there in Brunswick County, and just call them
- 34:34Speaker 9: the Coastal Commets or whatever. In any event, the Comets
- 34:38Speaker 9: name is now being used by Oklahoma City, the Oklahoma
- 34:42Speaker 9: City Commets. They're playing the Round Rock Express tomorrow and
- 34:50Speaker 9: that contest will be I believe at noon.
- 34:54Speaker 2: Eleven fifty year time, twelve or five. First pitch right
- 34:56Speaker 2: here on cave at AM, all right.
- 34:58Speaker 9: On AM thirteen hundred zone here it is all right,
- 35:01Speaker 9: So it'll be tomorrow as they'll be taking on, like
- 35:08Speaker 9: I said, Round Rock against Oklahoma City. That's at noon
- 35:11Speaker 9: eleven fifty airtime. And then our show will follow that.
- 35:14Speaker 9: I will be out at UFCU dish fark Field because
- 35:17Speaker 9: also tomorrow night on the zone we bring in log
- 35:22Speaker 9: Worn Baseball, as the Logrorns are back in action. They'll
- 35:24Speaker 9: take on the Huskies of Houston Christian, who in Texas
- 35:28Speaker 9: has played some Houston Christian teams that were really really
- 35:31Speaker 9: not good when Lance Berkman was coaching them, and some
- 35:34Speaker 9: of the other that they just weren't good. This team's
- 35:35Speaker 9: pretty decent. They're twenty and ten going into the ballgame.
- 35:42Speaker 9: So Texas will take on the Houston Christian Huskies. They
- 35:50Speaker 9: have a team batting average of to eighty six, respectable enough.
- 35:54Speaker 9: Ere is a little elevated at four point nine to zero,
- 35:57Speaker 9: but a lot of teams have that these days. Georgia
- 36:00Speaker 9: team era IS was pushing five when the Long Worns
- 36:04Speaker 9: played them over the weekend. So now Texas will play
- 36:09Speaker 9: Houston Christian tomorrow evening and you can hear that here
- 36:14Speaker 9: on the Zone six fifteen pregame. Star time in the
- 36:16Speaker 9: first pitch is at six thirty. So that's what's going
- 36:20Speaker 9: on tomorrow night. But round Rock Express tomorrow afternoon. I
- 36:25Speaker 9: think Mike Hardball Hart will be out there at Del Diamond.
- 36:29Speaker 9: He loves going out to the ballpark. Baseball was a
- 36:32Speaker 9: big part of his life. He is hardball. He is hardball.
- 36:35Speaker 2: He is that.
- 36:37Speaker 9: Somebody said, UT Dallas is the comments Okay, University of
- 36:42Speaker 9: Texas Dallas that's in richardson the campus is up in Richardson.
- 36:47Speaker 9: If I remember correctly, there were D three school t
- 36:51Speaker 9: Dallas the comments there. The interesting thing about that is
- 36:56Speaker 9: after I talked about him this week of the week
- 37:00Speaker 9: before the passing of my longtime broadcast professor and Bill Mercer,
- 37:05Speaker 9: who a lot of folks knew from world Class Championship
- 37:07Speaker 9: wrestling with the van Erics and all that stuff, But
- 37:09Speaker 9: he was also the Dallas Cowboys played by play broadcaster
- 37:13Speaker 9: in the late sixties and early seventies. He called the
- 37:16Speaker 9: Ice Bowl game for the Cowboys against the Packers in
- 37:19Speaker 9: the sixties seven NFL Championship. He called the Cowboys for
- 37:21Speaker 9: Super Bowl the lost to Baltimore in the first Super
- 37:23Speaker 9: Bowl win in Super Bowl six. He was a Texas
- 37:26Speaker 9: Rangers first broadcaster to worked with Don Drysdale and then
- 37:31Speaker 9: with Dick Reiseneuber. He called Chicago White Sox games for
- 37:34Speaker 9: a few years with Harry Carey in the mid seventies,
- 37:39Speaker 9: and a lot of folks remembering from his news background
- 37:41Speaker 9: at kriled in Dallas and reporting on the Kennedy assassination
- 37:46Speaker 9: that faithful weekend in nineteen sixty three, well, Bill, after
- 37:50Speaker 9: he retired from North Texas, he was living in Richardson
- 37:54Speaker 9: and UT Dallas brought him out of retirement, had him
- 37:59Speaker 9: teach some sports broadcasting there and had him do some
- 38:03Speaker 9: games for them, some basketball and baseball games for them
- 38:06Speaker 9: online broadcast, and that is where he first began training.
- 38:11Speaker 9: His granddaughter, Emma Tieman, who is now the play by
- 38:18Speaker 9: play broadcaster of the Portland Sea Dogs the Red Sox
- 38:21Speaker 9: Double A. And she was just named Maine Sportscaster of
- 38:24Speaker 9: the Year, so she'll be at that Sportscaster of the
- 38:26Speaker 9: Year banquet that I was at last year being honored
- 38:29Speaker 9: and this year Roger Wallace is the Texas Sportscaster of
- 38:32Speaker 9: the Year being honored there. So Emma Teeman did that,
- 38:36Speaker 9: but she started out learning at UT Dallas with Bill
- 38:42Speaker 9: Mercer teaching hear there, so that was really cool. All right,
- 38:45Speaker 9: Coming up, we'll jump back into some college baseball talk,
- 38:50Speaker 9: some Loghorns and the national college baseball scene and some
- 38:54Speaker 9: basketball as well when we can continue here on thirteen
- 38:56Speaker 9: under the Zone.
- 38:59Speaker 12: Welcome back to the Craig Way Show and the Voice
- 39:02Speaker 12: of the Longhorns. Craig on social media at Horn Voice.
- 39:19Speaker 2: Happy to be with you. On the Monday afternoon.
- 39:22Speaker 9: It's turning out to be a nice day outside. It's
- 39:25Speaker 9: kind of chilly yesterday if you were at the ballpark yesterday,
- 39:28Speaker 9: and my hats off to those who were there because
- 39:33Speaker 9: it was in the mid to upper fifties and the
- 39:36Speaker 9: wind was just handled like.
- 39:37Speaker 2: I saw a couple of things on social media, and.
- 39:40Speaker 9: Hey, it was our old friend Charlie Strong who put
- 39:43Speaker 9: it best when he said social media will be the
- 39:45Speaker 9: downfall of society.
- 39:47Speaker 2: But I saw some things I think on.
- 39:50Speaker 9: X Twitter, we're folks for complaining saying there were a
- 39:54Speaker 9: lot of empty seats at Dishfall Field. I did not
- 39:57Speaker 9: see a lot of empty seats yesterday the ballpark, and
- 39:59Speaker 9: I was there in the ballpark looked around. There were
- 40:02Speaker 9: a few less occupied seats then on Saturday and Friday
- 40:06Speaker 9: because the weather wasn't quite as palatable, but it was
- 40:09Speaker 9: still good. And I know the announced paid attendance is
- 40:12Speaker 9: different than the actual fannies in the seats and ninety
- 40:17Speaker 9: was the paid attendance. That sort of thing, and a
- 40:19Speaker 9: lot of folks have used this as a platform, and
- 40:23Speaker 9: I understand it to complain about the ticketing issue with
- 40:27Speaker 9: season tickets being sold out and now having to go
- 40:30Speaker 9: through the secondary ticket markets. Most notably, I think seat
- 40:33Speaker 9: geek to try to get tickets for the game and
- 40:37Speaker 9: saying it cost too much and some other and I
- 40:39Speaker 9: saw a lot of this back and forth on social media,
- 40:42Speaker 9: and I saw a lot of fans say it was fine.
- 40:45Speaker 9: So anyway, it just depends on the perspective that you're
- 40:48Speaker 9: coming from on this. But anyway, as I started to say,
- 40:54Speaker 9: the SEC players of the week, the player of the
- 40:57Speaker 9: week is Cam l of Arkansas, who led the SEC
- 41:04Speaker 9: in nearly every major offensive category last week. He had
- 41:09Speaker 9: nine hits, including three doubles. He had thirteen RBIs, eighteen
- 41:16Speaker 9: total bases, an on base percentage of seven oh six,
- 41:19Speaker 9: and a slugging percentage of thirteen eighty five. Of course,
- 41:23Speaker 9: they had the weekend series sweep against Missouri a Ballwalker Stadium.
- 41:27Speaker 9: The Hogs sent their program record for runs in an
- 41:30Speaker 9: SEC series. They swept the Tigers by a combined score
- 41:35Speaker 9: fifty one to nine of the three game set. The
- 41:38Speaker 9: co pitchers of the week are Kate Anderson of LSU.
- 41:41Speaker 9: Had a five hits. It was a five hit it
- 41:46Speaker 9: was a complete game shutout Thursday night when they shut
- 41:48Speaker 9: out Oh yeah, five hit shutout limited Oklahoma to five
- 41:53Speaker 9: hits over nine innings, recorded two walks and a career
- 41:57Speaker 9: best fourteen strikeouts. He was the guy who pitched for
- 41:59Speaker 9: LSU the game they won against Texas, the Friday night
- 42:01Speaker 9: game at UFCU Dish falk Field. The other co pitcher
- 42:06Speaker 9: of the week was Liam Doyle of Tennessee. The volunteers
- 42:11Speaker 9: at combined no hitter for the second time this season.
- 42:15Speaker 9: That was in the series opener on Friday against Texas
- 42:17Speaker 9: A and M. He had eight strikeouts two walks over
- 42:20Speaker 9: six shutout innings on that the tenth no hitter in
- 42:23Speaker 9: program history and the first by an SEC team in
- 42:26Speaker 9: league play in three years since Vanderbilt no hit Kentucky.
- 42:31Speaker 2: So Liam Doyle got that now.
- 42:33Speaker 9: Of course, folks had pointed out what happened after that,
- 42:36Speaker 9: that they had to play a doubleheader on Saturday because
- 42:40Speaker 9: of the inclement weather coming in, and Texas A and
- 42:43Speaker 9: M not only won both games to beat Tennessee, who
- 42:46Speaker 9: was number one at the time to win that series,
- 42:49Speaker 9: but that the Aggies also run ruled the Volunteers in
- 42:54Speaker 9: one of those games as well. Texas A and M
- 42:55Speaker 9: ended up winning the series. They were one in nine
- 42:57Speaker 9: in SEC playing. They're now three to nine in the
- 43:00Speaker 9: conference and Tennessee drops to nine and three in conference play.
- 43:05Speaker 9: And then the freshman of the week Dylan Valantis of
- 43:07Speaker 9: the Longhorns. They appeared twice. He picked up a save
- 43:10Speaker 9: and win against third rank Georgia at the time Georgia,
- 43:13Speaker 9: I think he has dropped the number five now the
- 43:16Speaker 9: first sweep over a top three team in more than
- 43:19Speaker 9: six years. That was when they had that big sweep.
- 43:25Speaker 9: I think of LSU several years ago. In his two outings,
- 43:29Speaker 9: Valanis had nine strikeouts, omber five and a third scoreless
- 43:33Speaker 9: innings against the second most prolific offense as it's called
- 43:38Speaker 9: in college baseball. He had the final four outs and
- 43:41Speaker 9: just eight pitches on Friday to pick up his seventh
- 43:44Speaker 9: save and lock down the series opening win. And then
- 43:47Speaker 9: yesterday he retired twelve to fourteen batters he faced, with
- 43:51Speaker 9: eight of those outs being strikeouts.
- 43:55Speaker 2: That was a career high for him.
- 43:56Speaker 9: He gave up one hit in one walk and that
- 43:59Speaker 9: was hit and got the win obviously on the Ryland
- 44:03Speaker 9: Galvan home run.
- 44:05Speaker 7: Pretty impressive stuff from Dylan to Land, no doubt, Craig
- 44:07Speaker 7: and not just Dylan, but the entire Texas rotation from
- 44:11Speaker 7: the starters to the bullpen. I mean they used six
- 44:14Speaker 7: total pitchers against going in the arguably the best statistical
- 44:19Speaker 7: offense in the Southeastern Conference. I even mean if you
- 44:22Speaker 7: told coach Tim slas And and Max Willa, hey, you're
- 44:24Speaker 7: only going to use three bullpen guys this weekend, they
- 44:27Speaker 7: would have been like, huh, did everything get rained out?
- 44:29Speaker 7: But no, they pitched so well and so dominant against
- 44:32Speaker 7: such a great and physical team, as Slash called them,
- 44:36Speaker 7: and they looked like the better team. Taxas played a
- 44:39Speaker 7: little bit more patient and they I mean they trailed
- 44:41Speaker 7: in two of the three games this weekend, and they
- 44:44Speaker 7: were in some real tough spots and there were some
- 44:46Speaker 7: points where it was the two or three or four
- 44:48Speaker 7: hole hitter for Georgia. I mean every I mean the
- 44:50Speaker 7: top half in the bottom that all over three hundred
- 44:54Speaker 7: would come to the play with runners in scoring position
- 44:56Speaker 7: and Texas would find a way to be able to
- 44:58Speaker 7: get them out, which was c and the spite being down,
- 45:01Speaker 7: I mean, Texas has played like such a physical and
- 45:05Speaker 7: more experienced team and Craig that did it without Max
- 45:07Speaker 7: belou and Adrian Rodriguez.
- 45:09Speaker 2: I mean, how about Jaquay Stewart coming in.
- 45:11Speaker 7: I mean, I don't think there's a lot of hitting depth,
- 45:13Speaker 7: and Slaws talked about how he wants to have a
- 45:16Speaker 7: lineup full of lefties. I mean, they only had two
- 45:18Speaker 7: lefties in the lineup for most of the series. But
- 45:20Speaker 7: one of those, Daquay Stewart, had a couple huge at
- 45:22Speaker 7: bats in this series. So Texas, despite the injuries and
- 45:26Speaker 7: the depth, hit very well I thought. And then the
- 45:28Speaker 7: pitching was certainly outstanding. I mean that pitching room has
- 45:31Speaker 7: to be on top of the world right now. After
- 45:33Speaker 7: the weekend they had against Georgia. You mentioned Jaquay Stewart.
- 45:36Speaker 9: He got his first home run as a long run
- 45:37Speaker 9: on Saturday in the game you called there.
- 45:39Speaker 2: That got Texas on the board. They were there for
- 45:41Speaker 2: another huge time.
- 45:42Speaker 9: And he really drove the ball well, all right, So
- 45:46Speaker 9: after all the smoke had cleared of the weekend, Arkansas
- 45:48Speaker 9: swept Missouri finished off with a doubleheader sweep of the weekend.
- 45:52Speaker 9: LSU swept Oklahoma in Norman, Tennessee ends up dropping two
- 45:57Speaker 9: out of three to Texas, A and M. Georgia of
- 46:00Speaker 9: course swept by Texas. Ole miss took two out of
- 46:03Speaker 9: three from Kentucky. Alabama dropped two out of three to Auburn.
- 46:12Speaker 9: Alabama is seven and five, so it's Arkansas and Texas
- 46:15Speaker 9: are both eleven and one on top of the conference
- 46:17Speaker 9: standings by one game on top of LSU. Then Tennessee
- 46:21Speaker 9: is nine and three, Georgia's eight and four, Ole miss
- 46:24Speaker 9: is eight and four, Alabama is seven and five, Vanderbilt
- 46:28Speaker 9: is seven and five, Auburn is six and six, Kentucky
- 46:31Speaker 9: is five and seven, Oklahomas five and seven.
- 46:33Speaker 2: Mississippi State is three and nine.
- 46:35Speaker 9: Texas A and M by virtue of winning those two
- 46:37Speaker 9: games over Tennessee is three and nine in the league.
- 46:41Speaker 9: South Carolina is two and ten and then Florida one
- 46:45Speaker 9: in eleven. I don't think anybody expected that, and Missouri
- 46:48Speaker 9: is zero to twelve in the conference. So that's where
- 46:53Speaker 9: it is right now. And in the most recent rankings,
- 46:58Speaker 9: D one Baseball has Arkansas number one the country and
- 47:02Speaker 9: Texas jumps to number two in the country and LSU
- 47:06Speaker 9: is number three in the country, so they have the
- 47:08Speaker 9: top three spots there in the in the national polls.
- 47:13Speaker 2: This week, obviously, the.
- 47:17Speaker 9: Longhorns have the non conference game tomorrow night, and they'll
- 47:22Speaker 9: be at home against Houston Christian again. That is a
- 47:25Speaker 9: six thirty first pitch, six fifteen pregame start time here
- 47:30Speaker 9: on thirteen under the zone Again tomorrow Round Rock Express
- 47:34Speaker 9: Baseball eleven fifty AM of the pregame and the first
- 47:37Speaker 9: pitch is at noon for the Express or twelve or
- 47:41Speaker 9: five as they play the Oklahoma City Comments and then
- 47:44Speaker 9: and then will bring you the show from uf U
- 47:46Speaker 9: Dish fifth following the completion of the Express game. And
- 47:51Speaker 9: then the Longhorns will play at six thirty Texas in
- 47:56Speaker 9: action against Houston Christian Around the League tomorrow, Just so
- 48:03Speaker 9: you'll know, Arkansas is at home against Arkansas State. Georgia
- 48:06Speaker 9: hosts Presbyterian. Hey, you grew up not far from Presbytery.
- 48:11Speaker 9: Do you know the mask I name? Let's see, I
- 48:13Speaker 9: had a friend play soccer. Are they are they the devils?
- 48:16Speaker 9: There's something to do with the devils, right, something satanic?
- 48:18Speaker 2: I think? Right?
- 48:18Speaker 7: No, they're not sure. I'm I know their colors there,
- 48:23Speaker 7: it's like that light blue and the red. Yeah, they're
- 48:26Speaker 7: in what South Carolina?
- 48:27Speaker 2: Right? Yeah?
- 48:28Speaker 9: Clinton, South Carolina, not the Google It Go ahead and
- 48:31Speaker 9: just tell me the blue hose. Ah see, I was close.
- 48:34Speaker 2: Blue hose. That sounds like demonic mind What does blue
- 48:37Speaker 2: hose mean?
- 48:38Speaker 12: What?
- 48:38Speaker 7: H hose as in like nose not that ky I
- 48:42Speaker 7: know that. But hose isn't like the watering hose.
- 48:44Speaker 9: No, no, no, no no, as in the socks you
- 48:48Speaker 9: wear like the white socks are sometimes referred to as
- 48:51Speaker 9: the pale hose.
- 48:53Speaker 6: Uh.
- 48:53Speaker 9: That's what that hosiery as in stockings. That's what it
- 48:56Speaker 9: That's what it denotes.
- 48:58Speaker 2: Was there really any Scottish people in Clinton, South Carolina?
- 49:01Speaker 9: That's where it started, that's it. Yeah, because of the
- 49:04Speaker 9: Scottish settlement down there. Presbyterians the blue hose, Yes, yes,
- 49:10Speaker 9: it was a big Scotch Irish villay in North Carolina
- 49:12Speaker 9: and South Carolina and the colonial times back then. So yes,
- 49:16Speaker 9: the blue hose a Presbyterian off of that. Okay, Auburn
- 49:24Speaker 9: has a good test. They're playing at Georgia Tech. Uh
- 49:27Speaker 9: and so that'll that'll be uh, that'll be good to see.
- 49:32Speaker 9: How of course Auburn will be here.
- 49:34Speaker 2: Uh.
- 49:35Speaker 9: Later this month, Tennessee is hosting Alabama State. South Carolina's
- 49:39Speaker 9: hosting usc Upstate. I mentioned Arkansas hosting Arkansas State. Florida
- 49:43Speaker 9: Florida State second meeting this year. Florida State already beat him.
- 49:47Speaker 9: On a walk off Grand Slam a couple of weeks ago,
- 49:51Speaker 9: and they're playing and that was in Tallahassee. This one
- 49:53Speaker 9: will be in Gainesville. Missouri plays SAU Edwardsville. That sounds
- 49:58Speaker 9: like that's going to be a minor league ballpark the
- 50:00Speaker 9: Saint Lewis area, if I'm guessing.
- 50:02Speaker 2: Texas.
- 50:03Speaker 9: A and M plays at sam Houston, LSU plays at
- 50:08Speaker 9: Nickels State. Vanderbilt host Dayton, Mississippi State is at UAB.
- 50:13Speaker 9: We got a chance to see their ballpark. We're at Birmingham. Yeah,
- 50:18Speaker 9: Alabama will host Southern miss who's number twenty three. That
- 50:20Speaker 9: could be a good matchup. Ole Miss is at Memphis.
- 50:23Speaker 9: Oklahoma host Dallas Baptist, who is always a good mid
- 50:26Speaker 9: major program. Kentucky and Louisville. Louisville number fourteen in the country,
- 50:30Speaker 9: so Kentucky will play them before the Loggorns come to town
- 50:33Speaker 9: to Lexington this week. Missouri will start and then and
- 50:40Speaker 9: then they'll And that was Tuesday and Wednesday. There's only
- 50:43Speaker 9: one game Wednesday, ole Miss hosting Alcorn State Okay Conference
- 50:47Speaker 9: played Rezumes on Thursday with two matchups. Missouri's at Florida
- 50:52Speaker 9: in a battle of two teams that the bottom feeders
- 50:55Speaker 9: really Florida's won and eleven league, Missouri's oh and twelve
- 50:58Speaker 9: three game weekend series in Florida. South Carolina is in
- 51:02Speaker 9: College Station to play Texas A and M. That's the
- 51:05Speaker 9: next two up in the pecking order after that, and
- 51:08Speaker 9: those are the Thursday matchups.
- 51:10Speaker 2: This week the Friday series.
- 51:12Speaker 9: Keep an eye on these, not only with Texas at Kentucky,
- 51:15Speaker 9: but Arkansas at Georgia. It is important to take note
- 51:18Speaker 9: of LSU is playing Auburn, two nationally ranked teams, and
- 51:22Speaker 9: that will be on the planes this weekend. Alabama will
- 51:26Speaker 9: host Mississippi State, Ole miss will host Tennessee that will
- 51:30Speaker 9: be a big one as well, and Oklahoma will host
- 51:33Speaker 9: Vanderbilt trying to get off the deck after being swept
- 51:36Speaker 9: at home by LSU. So another big weekend of action
- 51:41Speaker 9: in the SEC for the Longhorns and for the rest
- 51:47Speaker 9: of the Southeastern Conference coming up. We'll go back to
- 51:51Speaker 9: some college basketball because I want to talk more about
- 51:53Speaker 9: the national championship matchup tonight between Florida's Speaking of the SEC,
- 51:58Speaker 9: Florida against Houston. I've got some opinions and projections on
- 52:02Speaker 9: those games that we'll get to Later on, we'll talk
- 52:05Speaker 9: about some NBA things. Hey, Luca week, Luka Doncris is
- 52:11Speaker 9: coming back to the Metroplex. On Wednesday night, the Mavericks
- 52:14Speaker 9: host the Lakers. How exciting that would you? Would you
- 52:17Speaker 9: go to that game? If you were offer tickets that game?
- 52:19Speaker 2: I would definitely go.
- 52:20Speaker 9: Yeah, because I weren't a real big fan of the Lakers.
- 52:24Speaker 7: No, but just to be in there because I think
- 52:26Speaker 7: Lucas going to get such a great reception. But I mean,
- 52:28Speaker 7: I can't imagine what it would be like for for
- 52:31Speaker 7: a Mavericks fan because as a Thunder fan, when Katie
- 52:34Speaker 7: left to go to the Warriors and he came back,
- 52:36Speaker 7: it was a lot of Fitzrell was in chesapeak whole treat.
- 52:39Speaker 2: I was back at one of those games with all
- 52:40Speaker 2: the cupcakes. Yeah, I mean I was.
- 52:42Speaker 7: I was watching that game against the Warriors and rooting
- 52:45Speaker 7: for every kt mess. But for this game, I feel
- 52:47Speaker 7: like Mavericks fans are going to be rooting for Luca
- 52:50Speaker 7: to drop like fifty on them because they want Nico
- 52:52Speaker 7: Harrison and the ownership staff to watch Nico go Lucas,
- 52:56Speaker 7: watch Luca go nuclear against his old team, which I
- 53:00Speaker 7: think he might I mean at thirty points against OKC
- 53:02Speaker 7: this weekend, and you know Luca, he's a competitive, you know,
- 53:06Speaker 7: competitive players, so I feel like Luca is going to
- 53:09Speaker 7: have a huge game.
- 53:10Speaker 9: Hey, you're a Thunder fan like my younger, so I'm
- 53:12Speaker 9: gonna ask you the same question I asked him.
- 53:14Speaker 2: What the world happened against the Lakers.
- 53:19Speaker 10: Nine?
- 53:19Speaker 7: Two back to back losses, back to back games where
- 53:22Speaker 7: they were out of it in the first half. I
- 53:24Speaker 7: don't know if I want to make too much out
- 53:25Speaker 7: of it. The team just looks kind of exhausted, looks ghast.
- 53:28Speaker 7: I mean, they have locked up the one seat in
- 53:29Speaker 7: the Western Conference, a two game lead over Cleveland for
- 53:32Speaker 7: the number one spot, which would guarantee home court advantage
- 53:36Speaker 7: in the NBA Finals that they got there. Jadab was
- 53:39Speaker 7: talking about how the team just needs to kind of,
- 53:41Speaker 7: you know, find the energy. So I'm not going to
- 53:43Speaker 7: get too worked up over it, but I am a
- 53:47Speaker 7: little concerned. I'll just say that. But you know, hey, Lakers, rockets.
- 53:50Speaker 7: You know they're fighting for seeding in the playoffs right
- 53:53Speaker 7: because right now, the Lakers could be as high as
- 53:56Speaker 7: the two seed, Craig, they could drop to the eight seed.
- 53:59Speaker 7: They could drop to playing right now. But that tells
- 54:01Speaker 7: you how congested the Western conferences. Okay, see, they're fourteen
- 54:04Speaker 7: and a half games up over the Rockets, So I
- 54:06Speaker 7: am a little bit concerned, but I'm not going to
- 54:08Speaker 7: make a big deal out of it too much.
- 54:10Speaker 2: But you know, we'll see.
- 54:12Speaker 7: Even despite how good okay see, he's been this year,
- 54:14Speaker 7: I just don't know if they're that dominant team. I
- 54:16Speaker 7: think the Celtics are the best EVEM in basketball right now.
- 54:18Speaker 7: I think Boston is going back to the finals, and
- 54:20Speaker 7: if I was a betting man, I would pick them
- 54:23Speaker 7: to win it this season. But still sometime left to go,
- 54:26Speaker 7: so we'll see.
- 54:28Speaker 9: And the Mavericks need that game. Yeah, but if you're
- 54:32Speaker 9: a Mavericks fan, do you want your team to be
- 54:34Speaker 9: in the play Well, it's interesting you bring that up.
- 54:38Speaker 9: My wife is we went to Game four the NBA
- 54:42Speaker 9: Finals last year, and both of us could be listed
- 54:45Speaker 9: as Mavericks.
- 54:46Speaker 2: Fans and we're rooting for them and all that kind
- 54:47Speaker 2: of stuff.
- 54:48Speaker 9: I asked her the other night, I said, you know,
- 54:51Speaker 9: the promo came on for Luca and the Lakers playing
- 54:54Speaker 9: in Dallas. I turned to her and I said, are
- 54:57Speaker 9: you going to be rooting for the Lakers on Wednesday,
- 54:59Speaker 9: and she said.
- 55:00Speaker 2: Yes, I am. See.
- 55:03Speaker 9: They took Luca away from my team. So I said,
- 55:07Speaker 9: you're picking the player of the team. Yes, yes, he's
- 55:10Speaker 9: rooting for the Lakers.
- 55:12Speaker 7: I think there's a lot of Mavericks fans. Yeah, I
- 55:14Speaker 7: feel the same way. They're Luca fans now, yeah, yeah,
- 55:17Speaker 7: Luca fans. I understand it. I understand it. All right.
- 55:21Speaker 9: We'll have more coming up when we continue on thirteen
- 55:22Speaker 9: under the Zone.
- 55:26Speaker 12: We're back. It's The Craig Way Show with Hall of
- 55:29Speaker 12: Vame broadcaster and voice of the Texas Longheards Craig Way.
- 55:44Speaker 9: No surprise obviously after winning the national championship. University of
- 55:50Speaker 9: Connecticut the Yukon women number one in the final AP
- 55:54Speaker 9: poll after winning the school's twelfth national championship, and they
- 56:02Speaker 9: got all thirty one votes they should from the national
- 56:08Speaker 9: media panel and beat South Carolina eighty two to fifty nine.
- 56:11Speaker 9: It was bowling them out of the gang. Cook started
- 56:12Speaker 9: number one, they were the unanimous second choice. A record
- 56:18Speaker 9: five teams held the number one spot in the AP
- 56:23Speaker 9: poll this year. South Carolina, u CLA, Notre Dame in
- 56:27Speaker 9: Texas also all were first at some point this season,
- 56:31Speaker 9: UCLA finished third in the poll.
- 56:33Speaker 2: The Longhorns finished fourth.
- 56:35Speaker 9: So that's that's where they finished there somebody, And I'm
- 56:41Speaker 9: hoping and I have to believe, I say, I have to,
- 56:46Speaker 9: don't have to. But one would think, but this way,
- 56:52Speaker 9: one would think that whoever posted this on on our
- 57:02Speaker 9: text line on the text page was uh, I would
- 57:08Speaker 9: say tongue in cheek or kidding about it. Let me
- 57:12Speaker 9: let me put it that way, either tongue in cheek
- 57:16Speaker 9: or kidding.
- 57:16Speaker 2: And and I'm pulling up the uh. Well, I was
- 57:21Speaker 2: pulling up the text line here, so the one about
- 57:24Speaker 2: the Rangers broadcast.
- 57:26Speaker 9: No, but I'm glad you brought that up because that
- 57:30Speaker 9: makes sense as well.
- 57:32Speaker 2: Read that. Read that while I.
- 57:34Speaker 7: Pull up so precursor. You know Texas Rangers now play
- 57:37Speaker 7: on the Victory Sports Network, the same streaming service that
- 57:40Speaker 7: airs the Dallas Stars. It's completely different on streaming. It's
- 57:43Speaker 7: no longer Valley. So the message on the on the
- 57:46Speaker 7: text line, which is by the way eight five three
- 57:48Speaker 7: zero text to where Texas followed by your message was
- 57:52Speaker 7: I know y'all have been traveling, so not sure if
- 57:54Speaker 7: any of y'all have gotten the chance to check out
- 57:56Speaker 7: the new Ranger Sports Network Victory Plus, but it is
- 58:00Speaker 7: miles better than the Brow Valleys broadcast from last year.
- 58:03Speaker 2: Plus.
- 58:03Speaker 7: How about the pitching from the Rangers for the start
- 58:05Speaker 7: of the season. Okay, two separate things first, and let
- 58:08Speaker 7: me take the second part. First, Rangers pitching is much
- 58:10Speaker 7: better at the start of the year anyway.
- 58:12Speaker 2: It's it's been huge, Craig.
- 58:13Speaker 7: I mean four game win streaks seven and seven and
- 58:16Speaker 7: two atop the Al West, but have a negative run differential.
- 58:20Speaker 7: And it's because the pitching has pitched so well. I mean,
- 58:22Speaker 7: Kumar Rocker yesterday's six innings he gave up just one run,
- 58:27Speaker 7: was fantastic. Jack Lyder has been a revelation. I mean,
- 58:31Speaker 7: there was a lot of worries I think in the
- 58:34Speaker 7: organization that Rocker and Lighter were never gonna make it
- 58:37Speaker 7: to the big leagues, and so far Rockers first start
- 58:40Speaker 7: was tough, seconds start much better.
- 58:42Speaker 2: Lighter has been phenomenal.
- 58:44Speaker 7: To Gram who hasn't pitched in like two years, is
- 58:46Speaker 7: showing some signs of life. Tyler Molly, who had an
- 58:50Speaker 7: awful start, supposed to be kind of just he's kind
- 58:52Speaker 7: of filling in with all the injuries. With John Gray
- 58:56Speaker 7: out for a little bit. He was fantastic against Tampa Bay.
- 58:59Speaker 7: The bullpen has been incredible. It's just just the bats.
- 59:02Speaker 7: And I think if you could have okay, would you
- 59:05Speaker 7: rather have a good pitching to start but your bat's
- 59:07Speaker 7: slow or vice versa, I think you would rather have okay.
- 59:10Speaker 7: The bats haven't heated up yet. At least our pitching
- 59:12Speaker 7: has been good. And that's the case for the Rangers.
- 59:15Speaker 7: So we're hoping that, you know, Seeger and Simeon and
- 59:18Speaker 7: Garcia and those guys can you know, kind of wake
- 59:21Speaker 7: up because they have not been hitting to their potential.
- 59:23Speaker 7: But the pitching I think has been what all Rangers
- 59:26Speaker 7: fans were hoping for going into the season thus far.
- 59:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so okay.
- 59:29Speaker 9: Now about the new Ranger Sports Network, I don't want
- 59:33Speaker 9: to burst anybody's bubble or make them make them feel
- 59:37Speaker 9: kind of silly about some When you say it's miles
- 59:38Speaker 9: better than the Ballet's broadcast from last year, take it
- 59:42Speaker 9: from me because I know the people and the principal
- 59:44Speaker 9: as well. It's exactly the same people. Here's the difference.
- 59:48Speaker 9: Here's the difference. It's when they took it in a
- 59:53Speaker 9: house because of the bankruptcy by that was declared by
- 59:58Speaker 9: the Sinclair Group. Out there were the Diamond Sports Network Group.
- 1:00:03Speaker 9: What they did was to hire away all of the
- 1:00:07Speaker 9: key personnel when the Rangers stepped away from it to
- 1:00:10Speaker 9: go with a Victory group, they hired all of the
- 1:00:14Speaker 9: key personnel away who had produced their telecast over the
- 1:00:18Speaker 9: past several years. You mentioned Bali's last year was actually
- 1:00:20Speaker 9: Fan Duel Sports, but the year before that Ballets and
- 1:00:23Speaker 9: then before that Fox Sports Southwest.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: Same people.
- 1:00:27Speaker 9: It's the exact same Patrick Macdrofsky as their executive producer.
- 1:00:30Speaker 9: Patrick mcdrowski, a good friend of mine is the was
- 1:00:34Speaker 9: our executive producer for all our high school Scoreboard live
- 1:00:37Speaker 9: shows and several of the high school football state championship
- 1:00:39Speaker 9: games as well. What they did and what was really
- 1:00:42Speaker 9: smart to the Texas point was and what's making it
- 1:00:45Speaker 9: miles better. They took the key personnel who were involved
- 1:00:50Speaker 9: in the production, and then there's the financial stability piece
- 1:00:55Speaker 9: doing it the way they're doing just like the I
- 1:00:56Speaker 9: don't know if you've seen the Mavericks telecast through the
- 1:00:59Speaker 9: tech the group, same type deal or it's looked really
- 1:01:04Speaker 9: really good. I have all of those sports packages subscriptions
- 1:01:09Speaker 9: like I have the NBA League Pass, the NHL Center
- 1:01:13Speaker 9: Ice Package, MLB Extra Innings.
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: Else Am I going to watch the Dodgers regularly?
- 1:01:18Speaker 9: Right?
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: You know?
- 1:01:19Speaker 9: So MLB Extra Innings, I have all three of those
- 1:01:26Speaker 9: network regional Sports Network packages, so I've had a chance
- 1:01:29Speaker 9: to watch it and to see the Rangers, and yes,
- 1:01:33Speaker 9: Miles better in some areas, but a lot of it
- 1:01:35Speaker 9: it's the exact same people. They just I think what
- 1:01:38Speaker 9: they did was they just kind of perhaps divested themselves
- 1:01:42Speaker 9: of some of the extraneous personnel who probably didn't contribute
- 1:01:45Speaker 9: as much to the telecast, but the key personnel, production
- 1:01:49Speaker 9: people who are doing it, it's the same people. And
- 1:01:52Speaker 9: that's good because there were some really good people who
- 1:01:56Speaker 9: were kind of really caught in the middle of that
- 1:02:00Speaker 9: of that whole deal when Diamond Sports Group declared bankruptcy
- 1:02:05Speaker 9: and as a result of that, Major League teams like
- 1:02:10Speaker 9: the Diamondbacks, the Guardians, the Guardians, the Padres, the Rockies,
- 1:02:20Speaker 9: the Mariners, and the Rangers, a lot of those were
- 1:02:24Speaker 9: kind of left to their own devices. Either finished out
- 1:02:28Speaker 9: the deal, and the Rangers were able to finish out
- 1:02:30Speaker 9: their deal with Diamond Sports Crews because they cut them
- 1:02:34Speaker 9: a check. They cut them a fifty million dollar check
- 1:02:37Speaker 9: to be able to get through the rest of the season,
- 1:02:38Speaker 9: and so they did. But they'd already made their mind up,
- 1:02:41Speaker 9: just as the Mavericks had, that they were going to
- 1:02:43Speaker 9: go a different direction. But teams like the Diamondbacks and
- 1:02:48Speaker 9: the Padres, they went completely.
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: Outside of that.
- 1:02:51Speaker 9: Contracted with MLB and MLB Network to produce their telecast.
- 1:02:57Speaker 9: So if you watch, if you have an MLB Extra
- 1:03:00Speaker 9: Innings package, or if you watch it in a sports
- 1:03:02Speaker 9: bar and you watch a Diamondbacks telecast or a Podres telecast,
- 1:03:08Speaker 9: it will look remarkably like the MLB Network telecasts, same graphics,
- 1:03:13Speaker 9: a lot of that same So now they're still using
- 1:03:15Speaker 9: their contracted announcers, don Orsilo who does the Padres games
- 1:03:20Speaker 9: with I believe it's with Mark Grant. So they do
- 1:03:24Speaker 9: their telecast Steve Berthume, remember him from ESPN Days. He
- 1:03:28Speaker 9: does the Diamondbacks those games, all of those games, Bob.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: Brindley working with him.
- 1:03:35Speaker 9: They are their announced team, but it's produced by a
- 1:03:39Speaker 9: group that contracts in through MLB Network. That's not the
- 1:03:43Speaker 9: same with the Rangers. The Rangers kept a lot of
- 1:03:45Speaker 9: the same production elements in place. They just went financially
- 1:03:49Speaker 9: a different route, and so it looks good.
- 1:03:51Speaker 7: Similar to like Longhoor Network and SEC Network Plus. It's
- 1:03:54Speaker 7: the same graphics package, but different people behind the scenes.
- 1:03:57Speaker 7: If you watch it, you know, it might look pretty
- 1:04:00Speaker 7: much the same, except for the Longhoor Network no logo
- 1:04:02Speaker 7: has been replaced by the SEC Network logo. Oh this, Craig,
- 1:04:06Speaker 7: if you subscribe to the Texas Rangers on Victory Plus
- 1:04:09Speaker 7: to their their season right now, because it was like
- 1:04:13Speaker 7: it was like an early season deal. But if you
- 1:04:15Speaker 7: pay the one forty you get two free tickets to
- 1:04:17Speaker 7: a game. That's a great marketing campaign. I didn't issue
- 1:04:21Speaker 7: that for every team, for every team, especially for a
- 1:04:23Speaker 7: baseball team, right because you have so many games or
- 1:04:26Speaker 7: so many empty seats. That's a really cool way to
- 1:04:28Speaker 7: get people who live out of the market to come
- 1:04:30Speaker 7: visit to your ballpark.
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: I agree, Yeah, that's a that's that's a nice thing.
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: I might do that, you know. Now. Of course it
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: says subject to availability, So I wonder if that would
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: include Dodgers maybe, Craig, we we buy this package and
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: we go up and watch the Tani pitch, and you
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: better hurry. It's happening in two weeks. Two weeks.
- 1:04:45Speaker 9: Yeah, I won't be able to We won't be able
- 1:04:47Speaker 9: to get up for that one. Because weekend series in Arkansas, right, No,
- 1:04:50Speaker 9: I think that's the Auburn series here that that weekend.
- 1:04:53Speaker 9: I think it's right around that time. So I don't
- 1:04:56Speaker 9: think I'll be able to make that.
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:04:59Speaker 9: That does not, however, mean that I won't get to
- 1:05:02Speaker 9: see them in action at some point this season.
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: But then I were talking about that is we need
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: to see them again.
- 1:05:09Speaker 9: I've watched him at least once every season for the
- 1:05:14Speaker 9: past ever. Bill Schoening like had this record. I think
- 1:05:17Speaker 9: he had it broken during the pandemic or something. He
- 1:05:20Speaker 9: didn't see him during the pandemic the shortened season, but
- 1:05:23Speaker 9: he had seen the Phillies, his beloved team, every year
- 1:05:27Speaker 9: at least one time, going back to like nineteen sixty
- 1:05:31Speaker 9: five or something, every year seeing at least one Phillies game,
- 1:05:36Speaker 9: and then I think it got broken during the twenty
- 1:05:40Speaker 9: twenty season, the shortened season, the pandemic here, which is
- 1:05:44Speaker 9: ironic because I saw the Dodgers twice during that time
- 1:05:47Speaker 9: in the playoffs in Arlington when they were playing, you know,
- 1:05:51Speaker 9: in the bubble if you will, saw him against the
- 1:05:53Speaker 9: Braves and he had LCS and then of course Game
- 1:05:54Speaker 9: one of the World Series against Tampa Bay, so it
- 1:05:56Speaker 9: was it's interesting. All right, we'll be back to wrap
- 1:06:00Speaker 9: up hour number two coming up here on thirteen under
- 1:06:02Speaker 9: the Zone.
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: We welcome you to UFCU Dish Fault Field on the
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: campus of the University of Texas. It's Texas Longhorns Baseball
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: as the Long Orange take on the Georgia Bulldog. And
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: here's the pitch to Zabrowski lined on a hop and
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: to his right. Flores out of his glove, retrieves it
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: throws the first in time standing ovation for Flores on
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: his knee, going to his right. The ball bounced out
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: of his glove for a moment, but he had enough
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: time to throw a dirt to Kimball Schustler and it's
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: a one two three top of the first two to.
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: One pitch lind left field deep. It's a Texas round tripper,
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: a two run homer for Kingsey Barba and the Longhorns lead.
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: Three to nothing.
- 1:06:45Speaker 5: Here comes the O two.
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: Lifted left field way out of hair at Texas round
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: tripper Farewell Gasparino, a two run shot to make it
- 1:06:56Speaker 4: five nothing.
- 1:06:57Speaker 5: Texas runner at second, alf Thirst, runner at first Burnett,
- 1:07:01Speaker 5: next pitch, grand ball, left side dive into his.
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: Right Forest on the third for the fourth out.
- 1:07:06Speaker 6: Big got him come on ready to two pitch swing
- 1:07:11Speaker 6: and a miss, and that's the ballgame. Cavan has thrown
- 1:07:14Speaker 6: a no hitter of five nothing run rule victory for
- 1:07:18Speaker 6: the Longhorns, and Hegan Cavan fitnesses off the no no
- 1:07:25Speaker 6: after the Longhorns pick up three to get into run
- 1:07:28Speaker 6: rule territory in the top of the fifth, eleven strikeout
- 1:07:32Speaker 6: of the game for Cavan as well dispatching and Langler,
- 1:07:38Speaker 6: the Longhorns win it eight nothing.
- 1:07:40Speaker 7: Now, the fifth ranked Longhorns can win their fourth consecutive
- 1:07:43Speaker 7: Southeastern Conference series today.
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: For the victory over the.
- 1:07:47Speaker 7: Third ring Georgia Bulldark starts as Stewart rips won.
- 1:07:51Speaker 8: The right field Jackson going back this ball out of here,
- 1:07:57Speaker 8: two run homer for to Quay Stewart his first home
- 1:08:03Speaker 8: run of the season in Texas on the scoreboard for
- 1:08:08Speaker 8: the two two two count.
- 1:08:11Speaker 7: He's been battling in this a bet so against Henry
- 1:08:13Speaker 7: Hunter with the one out, here's a two to two
- 1:08:15Speaker 7: bitch got up swinging strike three and Luke Harrison now
- 1:08:22Speaker 7: nine strikeouts to plant Day on third, Mendoza on second.
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: Texas roll in Quarta two.
- 1:08:28Speaker 7: The three to one pitch Flores in the center field
- 1:08:31Speaker 7: ob backing up at the warning track off.
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: The lawn to plant deer will score Mendoza around third.
- 1:08:38Speaker 7: At the time ball game, Jalen Flores a double. The
- 1:08:43Speaker 7: two two pitch the Gasparino hit torch left center.
- 1:08:46Speaker 6: This Baul driven down into the gap in Texas gotta
- 1:08:49Speaker 6: have their first lead. Wilf Gasparino an RBI double coming
- 1:08:54Speaker 6: around home is galbod the.
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: Go to the play not at time.
- 1:08:58Speaker 6: Gasparino the third base takes the two run leads here
- 1:09:02Speaker 6: in the seventh Here the O two pitch the Robbie
- 1:09:05Speaker 6: Burnett got him swinging, and Texas completes the comeback and
- 1:09:11Speaker 6: takes the series against the third ranked Georgia Bulldogs. Final
- 1:09:16Speaker 6: score from the dish the Texas Longhorns seven, the Georgia
- 1:09:21Speaker 6: Bulldogs four. Now the ball dip the center that goes Lnger,
- 1:09:26Speaker 6: She's not gonna get to it over the fence. MIAs
- 1:09:29Speaker 6: goot a home run and Texas leads here at the
- 1:09:32Speaker 6: fourth inning.
- 1:09:33Speaker 9: From UFCU dish, Font field. It is the finale of
- 1:09:36Speaker 9: the three game weekend series between the Texas Longhorns and
- 1:09:40Speaker 9: the Georgia bull Dogs.
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: Georgia with the two to one lead on the scoreboard.
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: Here's the stretch.
- 1:09:44Speaker 9: First pitch coming to floors, swings here in the list
- 1:09:48Speaker 9: of flyball to Wright center, chasing McCarthy into the alley,
- 1:09:51Speaker 9: back to the warning track. Dude can say good night
- 1:09:53Speaker 9: to it. Win dated, perhaps, but it's a home run
- 1:09:58Speaker 9: out po Taco of the light field wall and the
- 1:10:01Speaker 9: Longhorns are back in front. Three to two, three balls,
- 1:10:06Speaker 9: two strikes, two outs. Balantis the stretch. The three to
- 1:10:11Speaker 9: two pitch strike three called slight offer, goes.
- 1:10:17Speaker 10: Down looking and Dylan Volantes closes out his fourth consecutive
- 1:10:24Speaker 10: ginning and is able to do.
- 1:10:26Speaker 9: It with a strike out every time. Here's the three ball,
- 1:10:30Speaker 9: one strike pitch. Galvan swings. Let's a high fly ball,
- 1:10:33Speaker 9: this one out the deep right center.
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: Back to the runing track.
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: You kids say good night to it.
- 1:10:38Speaker 11: A walk off home run to end it, HiT's a
- 1:10:42Speaker 11: sweep of the third right Georgia Bulldogs Ryland Galvon walks
- 1:10:47Speaker 11: it off over the right field wall and Texas sweeps
- 1:10:52Speaker 11: Georgia to win the series and with that's the Longhorns
- 1:10:58Speaker 11: are sitting on top along with Arkansas of the Southeastern
- 1:11:03Speaker 11: Conference standings. So here we are, iur number three in
- 1:11:06Speaker 11: the program here on thirteen under the Zone. Cameron Parker,
- 1:11:09Speaker 11: the producer, did an ounstanding gentleman putting that montage together,
- 1:11:13Speaker 11: which included Texas saftball year and also baseball over the weekend,
- 1:11:16Speaker 11: David Salzman was on the call for the Friday night
- 1:11:20Speaker 11: five to one Long Horn victory. Cam him self called
- 1:11:24Speaker 11: the Saturday come from behind from down four to nothing
- 1:11:26Speaker 11: to beating Georgia seven to four win, and then of
- 1:11:29Speaker 11: course I was on the call yesterday. All three of
- 1:11:32Speaker 11: us worked with Mike Cardball Harge over the weekend. Thanks
- 1:11:35Speaker 11: to Mike for his his work throughout the course of
- 1:11:37Speaker 11: the weekend. And then Texas Softball Andrew Haynes up in Columbia, Missouri.
- 1:11:41Speaker 11: Teagan Cavan a no hitter on.
- 1:11:46Speaker 9: In the first game of the series and then came
- 1:11:49Speaker 9: back did Degan got the save in Game two for
- 1:11:54Speaker 9: Sidealelei Gudieras and then forty five minutes later through one
- 1:11:58Speaker 9: hundred and thirty pitches and got the win in eight
- 1:12:02Speaker 9: innings in game three, and both the saltball and baseball
- 1:12:06Speaker 9: teams needed extra innings one extra inning a piece to
- 1:12:11Speaker 9: win and sweep out the series. For softball, of course,
- 1:12:15Speaker 9: they normally play seven, so it was an eight inning
- 1:12:18Speaker 9: win over Missouri, winning three to one in the second
- 1:12:20Speaker 9: game after they won the first game yesterday for three,
- 1:12:23Speaker 9: and then for baseball having to go ten innings, but
- 1:12:29Speaker 9: the Ryland Galvon home run over the right field wall
- 1:12:31Speaker 9: in Texas getting the win four to three and ten innings,
- 1:12:34Speaker 9: and now the long Wards are twenty six and four
- 1:12:37Speaker 9: and they are eleven and one in SEC play, tied
- 1:12:41Speaker 9: with Arkansas on top of the SEC standings. In case
- 1:12:45Speaker 9: you're wondering if it's on your schedule for down the road,
- 1:12:49Speaker 9: Texas does play at Arkansas. You know, the long Worns
- 1:12:53Speaker 9: don't play every team in the SEC because none of
- 1:12:57Speaker 9: the teams in the SEC, all of the teams you
- 1:13:01Speaker 9: don't do. You play ten conference series, and you have
- 1:13:04Speaker 9: sixteen baseball playing institution, so you can't play fifteen conference series.
- 1:13:12Speaker 9: There's not enough games in the schedule to allow for
- 1:13:16Speaker 9: that practically and still play a representative non conference schedule.
- 1:13:19Speaker 9: So you play ten conference series and then you get
- 1:13:24Speaker 9: to the SEC Tournament. I've had people ask me about
- 1:13:27Speaker 9: the SEC Tournament what the format is after seeing, you know,
- 1:13:33Speaker 9: with the double elimination, the weird double bracketing thing, and
- 1:13:36Speaker 9: the way they did it in the Big Twelve. Here's
- 1:13:39Speaker 9: the irony. The SEC Tournament and the Big twelve Tournament
- 1:13:43Speaker 9: are the same format this year, but it's not the
- 1:13:47Speaker 9: format that Texas was in last year. Here's the format
- 1:13:51Speaker 9: in the SEC Tournament. All you have to do is
- 1:13:53Speaker 9: think of the SEC Basketball Tournament.
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: That's all you have to think of. It'single elimination.
- 1:14:01Speaker 9: However, if you finish in the top eight, you get
- 1:14:05Speaker 9: a buy the first day. If you finish in the
- 1:14:09Speaker 9: top four, you get a double buy. So the Longhorns
- 1:14:14Speaker 9: would not play until Thursday. If the regular season ended today,
- 1:14:19Speaker 9: they'd get a double buy and would not play until Thursday.
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: But it's all single elimination.
- 1:14:25Speaker 9: The first day there in late May on Tuesday, with
- 1:14:28Speaker 9: the tournament is the nine seed versus the sixteen seed,
- 1:14:34Speaker 9: and the ten seed versus the fifteen, the eleven versus
- 1:14:39Speaker 9: the fourteen, then twelve versus the thirteen, and then the
- 1:14:43Speaker 9: winners of those games go up against the five, six, seven,
- 1:14:46Speaker 9: and eight seeds who receive a one day by a
- 1:14:49Speaker 9: single buy the second game, and then the top four
- 1:14:52Speaker 9: seeds get into play on the thurday.
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: But that's on down the road.
- 1:14:56Speaker 9: That's not for another month, another six weeks to be
- 1:14:59Speaker 9: exact act. But as I started to say, for those
- 1:15:02Speaker 9: of you who have it and wondering on your calendar,
- 1:15:07Speaker 9: Texas does play Arkansas.
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: They don't.
- 1:15:10Speaker 9: They don't play every team in the SEC this season,
- 1:15:18Speaker 9: they don't play. Among the teams that they do not play,
- 1:15:22Speaker 9: they don't play Tennessee, They do not play Alabama. They
- 1:15:28Speaker 9: don't play South Carolina. That's one of the bottom feeders there,
- 1:15:33Speaker 9: but they don't. They don't play them, but they do
- 1:15:38Speaker 9: not play. Tell you the other ones that they don't play. Okay,
- 1:15:43Speaker 9: they don't play Tennessee. As I mentioned, they don't play
- 1:15:46Speaker 9: Ole Miss, they don't play Alabama, they don't play Vanderbilt,
- 1:15:51Speaker 9: and they don't play South Carolina. Those are the five
- 1:15:55Speaker 9: teams they do not play. Still to come on the
- 1:15:59Speaker 9: schedull for Texas the weekend series at Kentucky this weekend.
- 1:16:06Speaker 9: Then they will be playing Auburn. They will be playing
- 1:16:12Speaker 9: Texas A and M at home. They will go to Arkansas.
- 1:16:16Speaker 9: The first weekend in May, and it's a Thursday Friday
- 1:16:21Speaker 9: Saturday series. The teams will rotate on whether they play
- 1:16:26Speaker 9: Friday through Sunday or Thursday through Saturday to allow for
- 1:16:29Speaker 9: the national telecast be it a SEC networker on ESPNU
- 1:16:33Speaker 9: or ESPN or ESPN two. So they go to Arkansas
- 1:16:38Speaker 9: first weekend in May, and that will be a big
- 1:16:47Speaker 9: series coming up, obviously, but there's there's certainly games that
- 1:16:52Speaker 9: will take place prior to them that will also carry
- 1:16:55Speaker 9: a lot of weight. Like I said, this weekend, Texas
- 1:16:57Speaker 9: will play at Kentucky and then after they play at Kentucky,
- 1:17:05Speaker 9: they'll have a midwek game against ut Rio Grand Valley
- 1:17:08Speaker 9: the next week. Then they'll host Auburn and that will
- 1:17:11Speaker 9: be a Thursday, Friday Saturday weekend series. April seventeen, eighteen nineteen,
- 1:17:17Speaker 9: when Auburn comes to down In. Auburn is ranked number
- 1:17:20Speaker 9: eleven in the country and they're having a very good season.
- 1:17:22Speaker 9: Then the long Runs we have their only mid week
- 1:17:26Speaker 9: non conference game. They'll go back to San Marcus to
- 1:17:28Speaker 9: play Texas State, and of course they lost to the
- 1:17:30Speaker 9: Bobcats at home last Tuesday, but they'll play them at
- 1:17:32Speaker 9: bobcat Ballpark on April twenty second. Then Texas A and
- 1:17:36Speaker 9: M comes to town on a Friday Saturday Sunday weekend
- 1:17:41Speaker 9: series at UFCU just Fault Field.
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: That will be that weekend.
- 1:17:47Speaker 9: And I think that's also the fan appreciation weekend for
- 1:17:49Speaker 9: long run football as well as they conclude their spring practices. Then,
- 1:17:53Speaker 9: as I mentioned that first weekend in May, Texas will
- 1:17:56Speaker 9: have a Thursday Friday Saturday weekend.
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: Let me make sure of this. I said that was
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: a Thursday Friday. I could be wrong about that.
- 1:18:06Speaker 9: I'm looking at the SEC schedule here, but I thought
- 1:18:10Speaker 9: for sure, but I'm not seeing that now. I'm looking
- 1:18:13Speaker 9: at this Saturday Sunday. I stand corrected. That's a Friday
- 1:18:19Speaker 9: Saturday Sunday. The Arkansas one, the Auburn one is Thursday
- 1:18:22Speaker 9: through Saturday. And of course they conclude the regular season
- 1:18:25Speaker 9: like everybody does, with a Thursday through Saturday, and that
- 1:18:28Speaker 9: will be at Oklahoma in between time. Their final home
- 1:18:31Speaker 9: weekend series second weekend in May will be Florida at
- 1:18:36Speaker 9: home against Texas or Texas at home against Florida, and
- 1:18:41Speaker 9: that will be a Friday Saturday Sunday weekend series. So
- 1:18:45Speaker 9: there you are with it all right. Coming up next,
- 1:18:49Speaker 9: we've got some other topics we'll get to. We get
- 1:18:51Speaker 9: to the college basketball again. The national championship is tonight.
- 1:18:55Speaker 9: There's a couple other notes to get to as well
- 1:18:58Speaker 9: as we continue here on this Monday after on thirteen under.
- 1:19:00Speaker 12: The zone, back to the Craig Way shot. Connect with
- 1:19:09Speaker 12: Craig through the text line by texting Texas to eight
- 1:19:12Speaker 12: one five three zero, followed by your message. Standard message
- 1:19:16Speaker 12: and data rates may apply.
- 1:19:19Speaker 9: Text of the day goes to the person who just
- 1:19:21Speaker 9: texted a few minutes ago said hey, guys.
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: Welcome back. Been a while, just so you know.
- 1:19:28Speaker 9: They now use a net hanging from a rim in
- 1:19:30Speaker 9: basketball and the goldposter all the way at the back
- 1:19:31Speaker 9: of the end zone.
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: Also, OJ is dead and been gone that long.
- 1:19:39Speaker 9: Great sex, Yeah it is, and I did when and
- 1:19:42Speaker 9: thanks to andrews himI who was filling in while it
- 1:19:44Speaker 9: was out. But I was able to hop on with him,
- 1:19:49Speaker 9: I think every day except one when we were in
- 1:19:52Speaker 9: the air at the time, flying afterwards, so I was
- 1:19:55Speaker 9: able to check in and be on and kind of
- 1:19:57Speaker 9: set the scene from some of the places there. But
- 1:19:59Speaker 9: thanks to Andrew for filling in a while out all right.
- 1:20:05Speaker 9: I mentioned the college basketball National Championship game tonight, and
- 1:20:10Speaker 9: then after that we're gonna see, because it's already been
- 1:20:14Speaker 9: active underway the portal, We're gonna see where some of
- 1:20:17Speaker 9: these guys wind up. Darien Williams from Texas Tech has
- 1:20:21Speaker 9: entered the portal. Robert Wright, the freshman guard from Baylor,
- 1:20:25Speaker 9: has entered the portal. The long runs have all so,
- 1:20:28Speaker 9: you know, made some noise not just through the portal
- 1:20:31Speaker 9: can but also bringing back some guys, getting Tremon Mark back,
- 1:20:35Speaker 9: getting Jordan Pope back, I mean, getting some guys back
- 1:20:39Speaker 9: will help Sean Miller and trying to build his first
- 1:20:42Speaker 9: edition of Long Worn Basketball.
- 1:20:44Speaker 7: Yeah, it certainly helps to get be able to get
- 1:20:46Speaker 7: Jordan Pope and Tremont and back, you know, prevents Texas
- 1:20:48Speaker 7: from basically completely real but rebuilding.
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: The roster from scratch. Nick Cody, Nick Cody has return.
- 1:20:54Speaker 7: There's still a few other guys that we haven't heard about,
- 1:20:57Speaker 7: you know, such as like Jamie fince In, the young
- 1:21:00Speaker 7: freshman who definitely as a very you know, raw, but
- 1:21:03Speaker 7: as a certainly high ceiling and exciting ceiling. Devon Pryor
- 1:21:06Speaker 7: of course obviously now going to Oregon. That hurts to
- 1:21:10Speaker 7: see him go. And I think the biggest win so
- 1:21:12Speaker 7: far as Kenda Weaver returning. We did not get to
- 1:21:14Speaker 7: see Kendall play too much this season. He missed pretty
- 1:21:16Speaker 7: much all of conference play dealing with that hip injury.
- 1:21:21Speaker 7: When he did come back, I thought Texas was a
- 1:21:23Speaker 7: completely different basketball team, and we saw them win two
- 1:21:26Speaker 7: games in the SEC Tournament, beating Vanderbilt and A and M.
- 1:21:29Speaker 7: He was a big reason why they won those games.
- 1:21:32Speaker 7: So big for Sean Miller to bring him back. But
- 1:21:35Speaker 7: I mean, you know, the first year Craig obviously will
- 1:21:37Speaker 7: be a transition year for Texas so far. The two
- 1:21:41Speaker 7: kids he's gotten now the portal, one from FAU, one
- 1:21:44Speaker 7: from Purdue.
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: I got to learn another pronouncer names. First off, that'll
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: be step one.
- 1:21:48Speaker 7: But outside of that, you know, they look like developmental projects.
- 1:21:51Speaker 7: But you know it's going to be a transition year
- 1:21:53Speaker 7: again for Sean Miller and just kind of you know,
- 1:21:55Speaker 7: getting used to Texas. And the big thing I think
- 1:21:57Speaker 7: is trying to find guys in the portal who can
- 1:22:00Speaker 7: match the physicality in the toughness of the SEC. I
- 1:22:04Speaker 7: think that's the one thing the previous staff wished it
- 1:22:07Speaker 7: a little bit better. Was addressed the physicality in the portal,
- 1:22:10Speaker 7: because as you know, in the SEC, it's a very
- 1:22:13Speaker 7: physical league. It's the reason why Florida and Auburn are
- 1:22:16Speaker 7: are playing the national championship because they were able to
- 1:22:19Speaker 7: be the most physical team pretty much every game, night
- 1:22:21Speaker 7: in and night out during conference player.
- 1:22:23Speaker 9: Yeah, they were both and Auburn was the number one
- 1:22:26Speaker 9: overall SEA Now they ended up going out in the
- 1:22:28Speaker 9: summer final round in Florida, but making the final floid
- 1:22:31Speaker 9: to day, How are you feeling about the Texas A
- 1:22:33Speaker 9: and M.
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: Hire a Bucky McMillan.
- 1:22:35Speaker 9: Interesting, he's being introduced by the way to Aggie Faithful
- 1:22:39Speaker 9: even as we speak right now in an event going
- 1:22:41Speaker 9: on at Rite Arena.
- 1:22:42Speaker 7: So this is the So they've hired two new basketball coaches,
- 1:22:47Speaker 7: men's and women's with in the past two years three years.
- 1:22:50Speaker 7: The previous coach for women's basketball came from Georgia and
- 1:22:53Speaker 7: then this one from Sandford who you know, Birmingham, Alabama.
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: We were just there.
- 1:22:56Speaker 7: Did not reach the sweet sixteen at any point, I
- 1:22:59Speaker 7: believe it was ninety ninety something in sixty two. Record
- 1:23:04Speaker 7: during his time at Stanford. I don't know, Greg, this is.
- 1:23:07Speaker 9: A two regular season Southern Conference championships and one tournament title.
- 1:23:15Speaker 7: This was probably a really bad year to make a
- 1:23:18Speaker 7: coaching change, right, And I think that's you know, with
- 1:23:20Speaker 7: Texas obviously, the whole discussion throughout the year, what was like,
- 1:23:23Speaker 7: who are you gonna hire? Like I don't want? If
- 1:23:25Speaker 7: you're like a potential candidates. If Jay Wright is on
- 1:23:28Speaker 7: that list, then it tells you what kind of year
- 1:23:31Speaker 7: it was because a lot of the guys that we
- 1:23:33Speaker 7: heard for some of these names were guys who were
- 1:23:34Speaker 7: retired or a little bit older who weren't going to
- 1:23:36Speaker 7: come back because there wasn't a lot of up and
- 1:23:38Speaker 7: coming young coaches. You got the Drake coach right who
- 1:23:41Speaker 7: was hired by Iowa, but outside of that, there wasn't
- 1:23:45Speaker 7: a lot of like no brainer names that we were
- 1:23:47Speaker 7: thinking of. I mean, that's why it took a little
- 1:23:48Speaker 7: bit for Indiana to make their moves. So for A
- 1:23:51Speaker 7: and M a real tough, real tough coaching cycle to
- 1:23:55Speaker 7: lose your head coach.
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: But you'll not surprise me.
- 1:23:57Speaker 7: We heard murmers when we were in College station about
- 1:23:59Speaker 7: Buzz Williams and his staff kind of looking elsewhere and
- 1:24:01Speaker 7: of course he did spend some time at Maryland, but
- 1:24:05Speaker 7: I don't know. I think if you're an A and
- 1:24:07Speaker 7: M fan, you're not too thrilled with this. Higher of course,
- 1:24:10Speaker 7: you know, time will tell, but again, just a real
- 1:24:13Speaker 7: tough cycle to be making a head coaching change and
- 1:24:15Speaker 7: looking for a new head coach.
- 1:24:17Speaker 9: Is a three times Southern Conference Coach of the Year
- 1:24:20Speaker 9: twenty two, twenty twenty three and twenty twenty four, ninety
- 1:24:22Speaker 9: nine and fifty two. He's had twenty plus wins at
- 1:24:24Speaker 9: each of the past four seasons.
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: So that's where it is.
- 1:24:26Speaker 9: He's being introduced right now in College station at an
- 1:24:32Speaker 9: event at Reed Arena.
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: What I started to get to earlier in.
- 1:24:39Speaker 9: When I mentioned on the text line and you mentioned
- 1:24:43Speaker 9: about the Ranger Sports Network and we got into talking
- 1:24:45Speaker 9: about that was a text that this morning went to
- 1:24:51Speaker 9: the morning kickoff group. It went to Mike Hardballharge and
- 1:24:56Speaker 9: Mark Henry. Now again, I'm guessing, I'm really and truly
- 1:25:00Speaker 9: hoping that this was done tongue in cheek, and I
- 1:25:03Speaker 9: think it was, because if it wasn't, it it's so
- 1:25:07Speaker 9: out of reality.
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: You never know, Craig, I know, I know, but it said.
- 1:25:14Speaker 9: Texas Longhorne women's basketball will spend the next six months
- 1:25:17Speaker 9: catching hell from fans and media after what happened last Friday.
- 1:25:21Speaker 9: The national sports media were right about Texas. The negative
- 1:25:24Speaker 9: opinions and criticism are all rightfully justified. All this because
- 1:25:27Speaker 9: they lost on their sports biggest stage. Will happen again
- 1:25:29Speaker 9: next season? Who's left to believe in?
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: Now? That sounds tongue and cheek to me. I hope so,
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: because that's a really stupid tech.
- 1:25:37Speaker 9: First of all, there wasn't a lot of negative opinions
- 1:25:42Speaker 9: from national sports media and criticism. It was largely praised
- 1:25:46Speaker 9: for what Vic Schaffer has done in his five seasons
- 1:25:50Speaker 9: in getting them finally to the Final four and getting
- 1:25:53Speaker 9: them over the top. So, you know, hopefully, hopefully that
- 1:25:59Speaker 9: was the case. Gonna catch any hell from fans and
- 1:26:01Speaker 9: media for what they've done in the five seasons under
- 1:26:04Speaker 9: Vick Shaeffer, and I think he's only gonna build from there,
- 1:26:07Speaker 9: all right.
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: Stay with us up next?
- 1:26:10Speaker 9: What could other teams and or the Mavericks have gotten
- 1:26:13Speaker 9: in a Luca Dodget straight. We'll get to that coming
- 1:26:15Speaker 9: up here. I'm thirteen hunder the zone.
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: And we continue on a Monday afternoon. Here, I have
- 1:26:45Speaker 2: a little short in my headphones there for a moment.
- 1:26:48Speaker 9: That's why I did the stop start again, all right
- 1:26:52Speaker 9: back here on the program. Right, this is this is
- 1:26:54Speaker 9: a topic I've been waiting, just waiting to get into
- 1:26:59Speaker 9: with you, Cam with your knowledge, your fandom, and your
- 1:27:05Speaker 9: heavy duty interest in the NBA. So I've been wanting
- 1:27:08Speaker 9: to talk about this for a little bit of time,
- 1:27:11Speaker 9: and now there's even a pulse trigger this morning on
- 1:27:15Speaker 9: something that just kind of adds to it. All Right,
- 1:27:17Speaker 9: we've talked a little more than a little bit, but
- 1:27:20Speaker 9: we've talked a bit about the whole Luca trade to
- 1:27:23Speaker 9: the Lakers, and then the cause and effect and everything
- 1:27:26Speaker 9: and what's happened with the Mavericks and what's happened with
- 1:27:28Speaker 9: the Lakers and all this. But it's all being spiked
- 1:27:31Speaker 9: back up again because the two teams are playing on
- 1:27:32Speaker 9: Wednesday in Dallas. It's going to be Luca's first game
- 1:27:37Speaker 9: back as a Laker, playing at the American Airline Center.
- 1:27:45Speaker 9: So I was going to get your thoughts on that,
- 1:27:47Speaker 9: and there's been Mark Cuban had a tweet over the
- 1:27:50Speaker 9: weekend about how the trade for Luca really came about
- 1:27:57Speaker 9: in some fact because of the failure to understand by
- 1:28:05Speaker 9: Maverick's management the Slovenian way of life and culture and
- 1:28:13Speaker 9: things like that, which which on one hand seems like
- 1:28:17Speaker 9: kind of a reach, But on the other hand, when
- 1:28:18Speaker 9: he read further deep into it, you saw what he
- 1:28:20Speaker 9: was trying to talk about, trying to get to understand
- 1:28:23Speaker 9: Luke a little bit better.
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: Now there's gonna be a lot of hard edge people,
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: and said that doesn't matter. I mean, he's a commodity.
- 1:28:29Speaker 9: He's the NBA if you can get something form of
- 1:28:32Speaker 9: the problem most folks have is that the Mavericks apparently
- 1:28:35Speaker 9: had been fleeced in this deal, although Anthony Davis has
- 1:28:38Speaker 9: looked pretty good when he's been back. But I planned
- 1:28:41Speaker 9: on discussing it this week as Luca prepared to return
- 1:28:44Speaker 9: to Dallas and Bobby Mars former NBA GM in fact
- 1:28:48Speaker 9: that he Orton worked with him, our friend and colleague
- 1:28:51Speaker 9: on our long run radio broadcast he'd worked with Bobby.
- 1:28:54Speaker 9: Bobby for ESPN dot Com wrote a piece that's in
- 1:29:00Speaker 9: to what twenty eight other NBA teams could have traded
- 1:29:04Speaker 9: for Luka Doncic Now I know this is, you know,
- 1:29:07Speaker 9: horses out of the barn before you shut the gate.
- 1:29:10Speaker 9: But he started off by saying, what if the Dallas
- 1:29:13Speaker 9: Mavericks had made Luka Doncics available to.
- 1:29:15Speaker 2: All twenty nine other teams?
- 1:29:19Speaker 9: He said, it's a question the team executives across the
- 1:29:23Speaker 9: league pondered in the early hours of February second, when
- 1:29:25Speaker 9: the NBA world was still coming to grips with the
- 1:29:28Speaker 9: blockbuster that sent Doncich to the Lakers and.
- 1:29:30Speaker 2: Anthony Davis to Dallas.
- 1:29:31Speaker 9: The Lakers were the only team that the Mavericks General
- 1:29:34Speaker 9: manager Nico Harrison spoke to about a deal. He said,
- 1:29:37Speaker 9: to answer that question, we examined the teams that didn't
- 1:29:41Speaker 9: land Doncic and put together the framework of twenty eight
- 1:29:45Speaker 9: separate and hypothetical trades for the five time All NBA guard,
- 1:29:50Speaker 9: plus what else General manager Rob Pelinka and the Lakers
- 1:29:52Speaker 9: could have offered, and he says they're multiple caveats to
- 1:29:55Speaker 9: the exercise. The trade dialogue was complex. Bill on confidentiality,
- 1:30:02Speaker 9: Genie bust, the Lakers owner, said, if it had leaked
- 1:30:05Speaker 9: out and the trade end happened, that would really be
- 1:30:07Speaker 9: unfair to the progress that the coaching staff had made
- 1:30:10Speaker 9: with the team because it's a huge distraction. Okay, second
- 1:30:14Speaker 9: caveat infricacies of the salary cap and the apron rules
- 1:30:19Speaker 9: that explain to folks the apron rules.
- 1:30:21Speaker 7: Oh, that's a little bit tough. So there's basically there's
- 1:30:24Speaker 7: a salary cap, right yep. But to prevent teams from
- 1:30:27Speaker 7: going into the going past the salary cap and spend
- 1:30:30Speaker 7: a lot of money like the Lakers do or seventy
- 1:30:32Speaker 7: six ers whatever, there is a first apron in the
- 1:30:35Speaker 7: second apron that basically will penalize the team and the
- 1:30:39Speaker 7: owners for being a certain amount of money over the
- 1:30:42Speaker 7: salary cap, and there's certain punishments. So the first apron
- 1:30:46Speaker 7: is bad, the second aprons really bad. Basically, if you're
- 1:30:48Speaker 7: the second apron, there's certain things you can't do, like
- 1:30:51Speaker 7: you can't trade for certain players, you can't sign certain players.
- 1:30:55Speaker 7: So basically it's all set up to penalized, penalized teams
- 1:31:00Speaker 7: from being heavy spenders, because't you know in baseball, like
- 1:31:02Speaker 7: your Dodgers, you know that basically buy anything they want NBA, but.
- 1:31:06Speaker 9: They pay the luxury tax on that, which is the
- 1:31:10Speaker 9: basics to have a first apron or a second apron.
- 1:31:13Speaker 9: That's kind of luck. In golf, you know, the apron
- 1:31:15Speaker 9: off the green. You know, you're not on the green,
- 1:31:17Speaker 9: so you're kind of in the apron.
- 1:31:18Speaker 2: Is that?
- 1:31:19Speaker 6: Is that?
- 1:31:19Speaker 2: What is that? What's meant by that? I don't know anyway.
- 1:31:21Speaker 9: All Right, So they had that the Mavericks were five
- 1:31:24Speaker 9: hundred and twenty six million below the first apron, and
- 1:31:28Speaker 9: they needed Anthony Davis to waive his five point one
- 1:31:31Speaker 9: million dollar trade bonus. So and then finally he said,
- 1:31:36Speaker 9: they said, we took into considerations of Dogis, who could
- 1:31:39Speaker 9: become a free agent in the summer twenty twenty six,
- 1:31:41Speaker 9: might not sign an extension.
- 1:31:43Speaker 2: With his new team.
- 1:31:44Speaker 9: So the hypothetical trade packages for some of the rebuilding
- 1:31:47Speaker 9: teams are watered down. Okay, so anyway to recap the
- 1:31:51Speaker 9: Lakers sent Anthony Davis Max Christie twenty twenty nine unprotected
- 1:31:57Speaker 9: first round pick. They say what they could have offered
- 1:32:01Speaker 9: was Anthony Davis, Austin Reeves, a twenty twenty nine unprotected
- 1:32:05Speaker 9: first round pick, a twenty thirty first round swap, and
- 1:32:07Speaker 9: a twenty thirty one unprotected first round pick. That's where
- 1:32:11Speaker 9: they're pointing to the fleecing that the Mavericks had done
- 1:32:15Speaker 9: to them and the inexperience that Nico Harrison and his
- 1:32:18Speaker 9: and his team did that. They could have asked for
- 1:32:21Speaker 9: much more and did not do it. So even Mark
- 1:32:25Speaker 9: Cuban said the team should have gotten more from the Lakers.
- 1:32:29Speaker 9: Okay best offers for Dallas Sela the strike It Cavaliers
- 1:32:35Speaker 9: could have offered Darius Garland, Jared Allen former long one
- 1:32:39Speaker 9: and a twenty thirty one unprotected first round pick. I
- 1:32:44Speaker 9: already liked that deal better than the one that they
- 1:32:46Speaker 9: do with the Lakers. I think every deal in this
- 1:32:49Speaker 9: article will be locked under the one. Mavericks timber Las Okay.
- 1:32:52Speaker 9: Rockets could have offered Dylan Brooks, Reed Shepherd, Jabari Smith
- 1:32:58Speaker 9: kay but two unprotected first round picks. Twenty twenty five
- 1:33:03Speaker 9: this draft thea Phoenix in twenty twenty seven the Phoenix,
- 1:33:08Speaker 9: So the draft picks make that worthwhile swaps of all
- 1:33:12Speaker 9: star guards. Hawks could have offered Trey Young and is
- 1:33:19Speaker 9: it pronouncer Yekung Gongku Yeah okay and and twenty twenty
- 1:33:26Speaker 9: five unprotected first round pick via the Lakers twenty twenty
- 1:33:29Speaker 9: nine unprotected first round pick. Hornets could have offered LaMelo
- 1:33:34Speaker 9: Ball Mark Williams Okay, but twenty twenty seven first round
- 1:33:39Speaker 9: pick twenty twenty seven top fourteen protected first round pick.
- 1:33:44Speaker 9: Clippers could offer James Harden, Terrence Mann twenty thirty first
- 1:33:48Speaker 9: round pick swap twenty thirty one unprotected first round pick.
- 1:33:52Speaker 9: Pistons could have offered Obias Harris and Auscer Thompson, Ron
- 1:33:57Speaker 9: Holland and two unprotected picks in twenty seven and twenty nine.
- 1:34:02Speaker 9: Warriors could offer Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Minga, Brandon Pozemski, Gary
- 1:34:07Speaker 9: pateon the second and four picks, two unprotected first and
- 1:34:12Speaker 9: two first round picks if one through twenty. Anyway, it
- 1:34:16Speaker 9: goes on to a Miles Turner, Obi Topping, Aaron Neestmuth,
- 1:34:19Speaker 9: then a Dyck mc thurno with the Pacers really have
- 1:34:21Speaker 9: offered all of that plus two unprotected first round picks
- 1:34:26Speaker 9: if they were then, and that's that makes the Mavericks
- 1:34:30Speaker 9: deal look even worse. Anyway, it goes on and on Sixers,
- 1:34:34Speaker 9: Paul George, Jared McLain, four first round picks, three unprotected,
- 1:34:39Speaker 9: one protected, Heat bam Adebayou Heywood, Heismith, I Mean Hot Kaz,
- 1:34:46Speaker 9: two unprotected first round picks, Nicks, Karl Anthony Townsend, one
- 1:34:51Speaker 9: unprotected pick in this year's drafted. So I guess the
- 1:34:54Speaker 9: bottom line is, as Luca prepares to come back to Dallas,
- 1:35:00Speaker 9: you're feeling the old wounds all over again, saying and
- 1:35:02Speaker 9: Bobby Marx is saying, the research they did reveals to
- 1:35:07Speaker 9: them the Mavericks, what we already knew, could have gotten
- 1:35:11Speaker 9: a lot more from what from the Lakers than what
- 1:35:13Speaker 9: they got.
- 1:35:13Speaker 7: You're just rubbing dirt into the mavericks fans wounds right now.
- 1:35:17Speaker 7: They're listening to this just in absolute tears, right all right.
- 1:35:22Speaker 9: I just I wanted to talk to you about this,
- 1:35:25Speaker 9: and then when this article came out in this Sport,
- 1:35:27Speaker 9: I was like, oh, I got it. Yeah, we got
- 1:35:28Speaker 9: to dump into this, and you're right. Basically, what it
- 1:35:31Speaker 9: comes down to is, no matter who they could have
- 1:35:35Speaker 9: made a deal with, the Mavericks could have made out
- 1:35:39Speaker 9: better than what they did. Instead, they get ready to
- 1:35:42Speaker 9: face Luca and the Lakers on Wednesday night having what
- 1:35:45Speaker 9: they have. All right, We'll be back to wrap up
- 1:35:47Speaker 9: today's program on thirteen under the Zone
