- 0:34Well, hey guys, good evening.
- 0:36It is John C.
- 0:37Morley here, serial entrepreneur.
- 0:39It's great to be with you on Inspirations
- 0:42for Your Life.
- 0:44We have a great master topic for the
- 0:46week.
- 0:46We'll get to that in just a minute.
- 0:48But if it's your very first time with
- 0:49me, I want to say welcome and thank
- 0:51you.
- 0:52Have you been here many times before?
- 0:54Well, of course, I want to say thank
- 0:56you and of course, welcome back.
- 0:59Some news that I want to share with
- 1:00you guys, you know, I'm not telling you
- 1:02too much about the book.
- 1:03But what I do want to let you
- 1:04know is that I just finished chapter 12.
- 1:08There are going to be 14 chapters of
- 1:10the book.
- 1:11And what I can tell you is the
- 1:12book's going to be, looks like somewhere around,
- 1:16I don't know, 110, 115 pages, give or
- 1:20take a little bit.
- 1:21And if you read each chapter, it's a
- 1:24motivational book.
- 1:25It's a very easy read.
- 1:26You will be able to do that in
- 1:29about a half hour with doing the exercises.
- 1:31So it's not just reading the book because
- 1:33reading doesn't do anything for us, right?
- 1:35We have to actually apply these things into
- 1:37our life.
- 1:39So don't forget to check out BelieveMeAchieve.com
- 1:42for more of my amazing, of course, inspiring
- 1:45creations, which you can do 24 hours a
- 1:49day.
- 1:49Well, friends, this is our very last show
- 1:54in the month of February.
- 1:56Tomorrow, we're on the new master topic today
- 1:59because we go from Saturday to Friday.
- 2:01But tomorrow is Sunday and we're kicking off
- 2:03not a new master series, but a new
- 2:05month.
- 2:05And there's a lot happening in March.
- 2:10So we'll get to that later.
- 2:12My book is scheduled to go to press.
- 2:14It looks like it'll be April and it
- 2:17will be dedicated to my parents the middle
- 2:19of April around the 18th.
- 2:21And then it looks like the public release
- 2:27of the book will actually be in probably
- 2:32early May.
- 2:34So I'm very excited about that.
- 2:35And then the book tour will start soon
- 2:37after that.
- 2:38All right, guys.
- 2:39So let's kick this show off.
- 2:41But before I do, I do want to
- 2:43let you know that if you're thirsty, if
- 2:44you're hungry, I don't want you famished during
- 2:46the show.
- 2:47No, don't want anybody starving here.
- 2:48So what I encourage you to do is
- 2:50to, yes, go grab yourself something.
- 2:52Maybe that's a treat.
- 2:53Maybe that's a drink.
- 2:54Maybe that's water.
- 2:55Maybe it's something else.
- 2:56Whatever that is, feel free to grab that.
- 2:59And I think you guys will find that
- 3:01it is pretty amazing to see what's going
- 3:06on and all the great things that we
- 3:08are doing.
- 3:08So, again, I want to say thank you
- 3:11to everyone here.
- 3:13Again, we have an amazing, amazing, amazing, amazing
- 3:17show.
- 3:18And I know that you're probably going to
- 3:24really appreciate the value that I'm bringing to
- 3:28the table because I definitely am bringing –
- 3:30I'm definitely bringing a lot of value here
- 3:33to the table.
- 3:35I think that's an important thing to realize
- 3:39is all the value that I'm bringing.
- 3:42And so the book, I'm excited about the
- 3:44book.
- 3:44Like I said, the book, we'll have more
- 3:45details on the book later on for those
- 3:48of you that are wondering.
- 3:50But I'm really excited about the book.
- 3:52And, again, we have a pause to reflect
- 3:54at the end of each chapter.
- 3:56So that's kind of cool because you get
- 3:58to read, and then you also get to
- 4:00go back and, well, practice what you learned
- 4:04in the chapter from my live lessons in
- 4:07my life.
- 4:08So I think that's a pretty cool thing,
- 4:10guys.
- 4:11And so without any further ado, I'm going
- 4:13to go ahead and, yeah, I'm going to
- 4:15go ahead and kick this show off.
- 4:17Are you guys ready for the show?
- 4:19I know you are.
- 4:20So let's kick this show off.
- 4:22All right, everyone?
- 4:24This is Inspirations for Your Life.
- 4:26It is series five, which means we're in
- 4:29our fifth year.
- 4:29We've been on the air four years, and
- 4:31now we're going to be going just about
- 4:33into our third month very soon.
- 4:35And this is show 10, and this is
- 4:38episode number one.
- 4:42All right, let's kick it off.
- 4:43All right, everyone?
- 4:44So, again, it is such a privilege and
- 4:46a pleasure to be with you.
- 4:47I'm John C.
- 4:47Morley, serial entrepreneur.
- 4:49I'm an engineer, marketing specialist, video producer, podcast
- 4:52host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student, and, yes,
- 4:55a passionate lifelong learner.
- 4:57And pretty soon I will be a published
- 4:59author.
- 4:59I'm really excited for that moment.
- 5:02So our master topic for the week is
- 5:04strength in choice, clarity, courage, and calm power.
- 5:09Saturday's granular topic is awareness and mindfulness.
- 5:13Awareness turns habits into conscious choices.
- 5:19Pausing multiplies decision impact.
- 5:22Spot patterns before they actually control you.
- 5:26Each choice builds self-trust.
- 5:31Small actions compound into results.
- 5:36And I think that's one for a lot
- 5:37of people to have a hard time with
- 5:39is that our results, they compound over time.
- 5:44Okay?
- 5:46They compound over time.
- 5:48That is probably one of the most important
- 5:50things that I can share with you guys,
- 5:53that it is something over time.
- 5:56All right, so our next thing I want
- 5:58to share with you is this.
- 5:59Avoid distractions, folks, that drain your energy.
- 6:02Because, you know, when they drain your energy,
- 6:05you're wondering why you can't do anything.
- 6:07It's because, well, you've eaten up all your
- 6:09fuel.
- 6:10Focus sharpens your intuition.
- 6:13So continue to focus every day.
- 6:16Observation prevents repeated mistakes.
- 6:20Awareness clarifies priorities fast.
- 6:23And conscious attention protects mental bandwidth.
- 6:27Catch your impulses before they hijack your energy,
- 6:31not after.
- 6:33So I'm asking you to be what?
- 6:35I'm asking you to be proactive.
- 6:38I'm asking you to be proactive.
- 6:40I think that's a very important thing to
- 6:45understand is we have to understand what that
- 6:48means and why that means something.
- 6:51Because I think those are things that a
- 6:53lot of people just don't get.
- 6:55Right?
- 6:56We just don't get them.
- 6:59And maybe, you know, you're wondering why things
- 7:04are a certain way.
- 7:05And it's because of your perception.
- 7:11Because of your perception.
- 7:14That's a very interesting thing, if you ask
- 7:18me.
- 7:19Our perceptions become our reality.
- 7:24Our perceptions become our reality.
- 7:30Let's pause there for a moment and let's
- 7:32think about that.
- 7:33So when we put on a different pair
- 7:36of glasses or lenses, we actually change the
- 7:39energy around us.
- 7:41Awareness clears mental clutter.
- 7:44Being present boosts effectiveness.
- 7:46Pause to see forbidden traps.
- 7:50Obstacles become opportunities through awareness.
- 7:54Recognize harmful patterns to continue to grow the
- 7:58resilience around you.
- 8:01Now, that's pretty deep, guys, if you ask
- 8:03me.
- 8:04Conscious living keeps focus intact.
- 8:10Awareness strengthens emotional control.
- 8:14Mindful choices accelerate our growth.
- 8:17Awareness improves judgment under pressure.
- 8:20Fix energy leaks before they spread.
- 8:24Once they spread, it's harder to manage them.
- 8:28Awareness quietly fuels confidence.
- 8:35Mindful attention prevents any ounce of regret.
- 8:40Align your actions, guys, with your values.
- 8:45Awareness uncovers hidden opportunities.
- 8:49Just an awareness.
- 8:50Micro-choices create outsized impact.
- 8:55Awareness multiplies focus and clarity.
- 9:00Mindful actions build unstoppable momentum.
- 9:06Awareness strengthens your identity.
- 9:11And you might say, John, how is that
- 9:12even possible?
- 9:13Well, that happens because you
- 9:22shift in how you're thinking and what you're
- 9:26doing.
- 9:28Deliberate living starts with noticing.
- 9:32Now, the word for noticing is what, guys?
- 9:50And I think as we think about awareness
- 9:52day in, day out, there's so many different
- 9:56parts to awareness.
- 9:58So awareness helps us to make choices in
- 10:02our life.
- 10:05It helps us to make choices.
- 10:08Okay?
- 10:11It helps us make choices.
- 10:15I think that's a very important thing.
- 10:21How it helps us make those choices.
- 10:32How does it do that?
- 10:41How does it help us do that?
- 10:45Or perspective, a shift happens.
- 10:52A shift happens to where we are in
- 10:56life but to where we're going.
- 11:05Where we're going is not something that we
- 11:20always know about.
- 11:22It comes from our choices.
- 11:24It comes from the paths that we're working
- 11:28on.
- 11:28And these paths lead us different ways.
- 11:35But just changing your awareness on one thing
- 11:39in your life can dramatically affect the trajectory
- 11:45and the path that you take.
- 11:50Why?
- 11:54Awareness gets us to focus.
- 12:01Awareness gets us to understand.
- 12:03And it gets us to evaluate.
- 12:10Awareness gets us to see there's more than
- 12:15what's on the surface or what appears to
- 12:18be on the surface.
- 12:19Sometimes we say the words, you know, we've
- 12:20just scratched the surface.
- 12:24That means we haven't dug deep.
- 12:26We've just seen the cursory preview.
- 12:35Why?
- 12:37Because of a choice we made.
- 12:46Because of a choice that I made.
- 12:52And choices that we make happen every day.
- 12:57But sometimes they don't actually give us the
- 13:01clarity all at once.
- 13:05They allow us to ponder.
- 13:08They allow us to sit back.
- 13:10They allow us to observe.
- 13:14But when we're aware of something, we're paying
- 13:20attention to all of its characteristics.
- 13:22Let me see if I can give you
- 13:23an example.
- 13:25Maybe you're aware of your car.
- 13:28When you get into your car, you're aware
- 13:33of everything from opening the door, the sensation
- 13:36you feel on your hand.
- 13:40The moment you sit on the seat, you
- 13:42can feel that in your body.
- 13:44The temperature in the car.
- 13:48The sound from your car once it starts
- 13:51up if you haven't automatically started already before
- 13:53you got there.
- 13:56And these bits of awareness prep us for
- 14:05what's going to come next.
- 14:07And you might say to me, John, what
- 14:10do you mean what's going to come next?
- 14:11So what we're hearing in the car.
- 14:14What we're seeing.
- 14:16These different senses of ours.
- 14:18Get us to understand that there might be
- 14:25more than what we're hearing.
- 14:28There might be more than what we're just
- 14:30seeing.
- 14:33But the big multimillion dollar question I like
- 14:35to ask is why is it that people
- 14:38choose not to be aware?
- 14:40Being aware doesn't cost anything.
- 14:42It's free.
- 14:43But why is it people don't choose to
- 14:45be aware?
- 14:47Being aware, to give you another example, maybe
- 14:52some of you ever heard the phrase, you
- 14:54know, sit quietly like a lion.
- 15:00And tune your ears like the lion.
- 15:06So that you could hear a pin drop
- 15:10around you.
- 15:15Think of yourself as a lion for a
- 15:16moment.
- 15:17Sitting on the edge of your chair.
- 15:20And noticing the subtle sounds of a pin
- 15:27drop that gets us to be highly focused.
- 15:37Maybe there is no pin drop.
- 15:40But because I've gotten you attuned to a
- 15:44certain state, you are probably not going to
- 15:47miss a heartbeat.
- 15:49You're not going to miss a voice.
- 15:57You're not going to miss a heartbeat.
- 16:02The reason people miss the heartbeats is because
- 16:06of things that are said.
- 16:11Or things that are not said.
- 16:16And this changes people's, I'm going to say
- 16:20illusion.
- 16:28But that illusion, guys, becomes people's reality.
- 16:40It becomes people's reality.
- 16:44And that reality adapts to how one
- 16:54acts.
- 16:56How one talks.
- 16:58How one responds.
- 17:06And responding is something interesting.
- 17:08Because we don't all respond the same way.
- 17:10But when we're in an environment that has
- 17:14a different type of stimuli, it causes us
- 17:19to go internally.
- 17:25You ever notice that the quieter things are,
- 17:29the more you pay attention to what's inside
- 17:32your body?
- 17:34Right?
- 17:36That's not an accident.
- 17:38That's by design.
- 17:41I like to call it silencing the chattering
- 17:44monkeys that are inside our head.
- 17:47Now there aren't really any chattering monkeys.
- 17:50What there are is sounds.
- 17:55There's words.
- 17:56There's thoughts.
- 17:58And these thoughts cause us to pivot.
- 18:05So you're already focused on something.
- 18:07And now you get a thought.
- 18:09Know what's going to happen?
- 18:10You're going to pivot away from something.
- 18:15Pivot away.
- 18:16And by pivoting away, you change.
- 18:30Sometimes the change can be as subtle as
- 18:32what you're doing.
- 18:39It could be what you're saying.
- 18:41It could even be what track you're listening
- 18:45to.
- 18:45Now that's a really interesting one.
- 18:47So in our world, we have lots of
- 18:49tracks playing.
- 18:51Some of them are tracks that are just
- 18:53giving us thought, let's say.
- 18:55Other tracks or signals are giving us other
- 18:59sounds.
- 19:01We're getting tracks from our sight.
- 19:05So we hear.
- 19:06We see.
- 19:08We touch.
- 19:10We smell.
- 19:11And we have something called proprioception.
- 19:15What the heck, John, is proprioception?
- 19:18Okay, well, I have a pen in my
- 19:20hand.
- 19:20You can take my word for it if
- 19:21you're listening to the audio cast only.
- 19:24And this pen is in my hand.
- 19:27If I was to close my eyes and
- 19:30I was to move my hand back like
- 19:33a dart and get ready to almost throw
- 19:36it, open my eyes, I could tell with
- 19:39my eyes it goes that my arm had
- 19:42changed its position.
- 19:43We call that proprioception.
- 19:47So see, hear, touch, taste, and proprioception.
- 19:55Proprioception is also important for robots.
- 19:59We use different things like accelerometers to tell
- 20:03what position the arm is in or the
- 20:05joint is in at the moment.
- 20:10Proprioception works even on any part of your
- 20:12body.
- 20:12You can close your eyes and move your
- 20:14foot to the right, and you can tell
- 20:16that your foot is to the right.
- 20:20We call that proprioception.
- 20:26But we talk about a choice.
- 20:31A choice is something that has put before
- 20:35us.
- 20:38Maybe we're deciding to paint a house.
- 20:42We have thousands of colors we can choose
- 20:46from.
- 20:48If the color we see is not there
- 20:50on the shelf, don't worry about it because
- 20:52they have thousands, if not more than that.
- 20:55You can just tell them what color you
- 20:57want.
- 20:57They scan it, and it mixes and matches
- 20:59the base color and additional colors to give
- 21:05you the final color that you want.
- 21:08Most colors start with a white, depending on
- 21:11what it is.
- 21:14And so thinking about choice.
- 21:16So we make a choice based on a
- 21:23decision we're analyzing.
- 21:24But what can help us with a decision?
- 21:27So here's the thing.
- 21:28If it's something financial, we don't want to
- 21:32make the decision with our gut.
- 21:34We want to look at the data.
- 21:37Too many people get a feeling like, oh,
- 21:41I'm going to do that.
- 21:43But that feeling could be wrong because it's
- 21:45not backed up, either supported or not supported,
- 21:49by data.
- 21:52And then when something goes away you don't
- 21:54like, and you're unhappy because you spent money
- 21:57on those resources, you can say, well, you
- 21:59know, I never analyzed that data in accordance
- 22:06to what choice I was making.
- 22:11So we have data for lots of things
- 22:12in life.
- 22:14We have data that helps us make logical
- 22:19decisions based on numbers.
- 22:24We can evaluate things based on the quality.
- 22:28We can evaluate things based on the quantity.
- 22:34So we have qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis.
- 22:40We would see a lot of, let's say,
- 22:44quantitative analysis when we get to things like
- 22:47the stock market, what KPIs, what key performance
- 22:54indexes are causing this jump.
- 23:02What's causing that jump?
- 23:06We analyze it, right?
- 23:10And understanding key performance indicators is vital
- 23:21for not only achieving success but for maintaining
- 23:28it.
- 23:32Data is a tool.
- 23:36Now, of course, we can analyze it and
- 23:38gather it different ways.
- 23:41But what we're doing is we're building a
- 23:42system.
- 23:43And that system helps us to be able
- 23:47to either quantify or qualify it quantitatively or
- 23:51qualitatively.
- 23:53Remember, qualitatively talks about the quality of something
- 23:56based on some standards.
- 23:58Quantitative deals with numbers.
- 24:00Is it higher?
- 24:01Is it lower?
- 24:02Is the percentage this higher?
- 24:04Is this percentage lower?
- 24:07What's a threshold, number or percentage?
- 24:12For example, when we round, if the number
- 24:17is below 4, so let's say if it's
- 24:2054, we round down to 50.
- 24:25If it's 55 or higher, we round up
- 24:27to 60.
- 24:30That's a quantitative rule for rounding.
- 24:38And there are lots of different rules.
- 24:40There are lots of different, I'll call them
- 24:43boundaries.
- 24:44And there are lots of different premises that
- 24:48we can affect if we've chosen to become
- 24:56aware.
- 24:59Lots of people say to me, were you
- 25:01not aware of this?
- 25:03Maybe you go into a service station and
- 25:07your tire is flat.
- 25:10The service person comes out and says, were
- 25:12you not aware that your back tire was
- 25:15flat as a doornail?
- 25:22No, I wasn't.
- 25:23But you were riding on fumes.
- 25:26A few more rolls and your car might
- 25:29have popped.
- 25:35And I think making a choice to analyze
- 25:40data and then review that data can give
- 25:49us the flexibility to move up or down.
- 25:56Remember I said something to you guys a
- 25:57long time ago.
- 25:58If we want to change something, the first
- 26:00thing we have to do is we have
- 26:02to be able to measure it.
- 26:04If we cannot measure something, guess what?
- 26:08We can't affect it positively or negatively because
- 26:10we don't know if what we're doing is
- 26:12making an effect.
- 26:13How are we measuring it?
- 26:15How do the Nielsen's measure TV off?
- 26:17They still do it.
- 26:18They would send out a dollar or two
- 26:20to you, right?
- 26:21And because the honest isn't like, oh, of
- 26:23course, you're going to do it, right?
- 26:24And then you would answer the questions and
- 26:26you would send it back to them.
- 26:28What TV program now?
- 26:29We have boxes that do it all electronically.
- 26:31But they are doing a quantitative analysis to
- 26:37see how many people are watching CNN, how
- 26:39many people are watching Fox News.
- 26:42And not just how many people are watching
- 26:43it, but at what times.
- 26:47Because then this gets them to understand where
- 26:52and when most people are watching.
- 26:56So they know not only the time, they
- 26:59know the demographic and they know the location
- 27:01of the United States, where the people are
