- 0:01[SPEAKER_00]: Bill's Mafia, what's going on?
- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: It is your hump day edition Wednesday edition of First and Five.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Dave, that's Greg.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_00]: We have a lot to talk about.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: We digested the bread and being press conference.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_00]: That was yesterday.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't talk that often.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_00]: So I have some good nuggets for him.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to talk about the guys that came back to practice.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: And I want to touch on Josh Allen is the best quarterback in the NFL.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_00]: Per the top 100, let's talk about it.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: First and five with David Greg Greg brought up something interesting that we were talking about when we were doing our sound check before we came live Greg wants to talk about Halloween decorations because it's that time of year it's followed everything is pumpkin flavored so Greg asked me
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: When do you put up your Halloween decorations?
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, if it was up to my wife, they would have been up yesterday on the first.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: So Greg, what's your overarching take on Halloween decorations?
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, full context here.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: I did not get it because I want to know how early is too early.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: You had mentioned you're going up to get the bit Halloween bins off the hill.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, well, how got me thinking?
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: So I like how I'm not a Halloween fanatic, but I like Halloween.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: I've got kids who like you, they're starting to age out of it, but still kind of been to it.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'm usually a two to three week before household and we don't we don't go elaborate.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_01]: We throw some of the ghosts up on the overhang on the porch and stuff like that.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe a couple of signs here and there.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: My wife is not a Halloween fan whatsoever.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: And really slowly got an into it.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I kind of encourage it, right?
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: What we had little kids, it was, I told her.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, hey, we should dress up, too.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: Like, to walk around with the kids.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: Like, this is one time a year.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_01]: And you're only gonna get so many of them before they kind of age out of it.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: So I still dress up.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: We don't walk around with their kids anymore.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: They go off with their friends.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: but we'll go to a friend's house and we'll have a couple of drinks around a fire while they're all kind of doing their thing.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: I still dress up.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_01]: I've probably got about two years of this left before it's come and done.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: But we're about two to three week I was told beforehand.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: But my wife has grown into it a little bit.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: So now we have, I'm pretty sure we're going to have some new door math this year and probably a couple more decorations that show up, but a couple weeks before.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm okay.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: So typically, I'm okay with like,
- 2:50[SPEAKER_01]: I don't get mad with people do work early, but October 1st, I'm like, you got a full month there.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: That's usually the sign where the fall decorations come out, the Halloween stuff comes out.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm usually good for about a month before.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm not a huge Halloween person.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I think when I was younger, yes, I was into it more.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: I was into it when my kids were, you know, little little because, you know, they had the cute costumes and stuff like that, but like, like you said, my kids,
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: My daughter's going to be 10 here this month, and my son's going to be 12 in January.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_00]: So they're kind of getting to the point where they're like, my daughter's way into it because my wife is way into it.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like she likes all the witchy stuff.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: She, like, you should see our house.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_00]: The front lawn is is ridiculous.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_00]: And every year,
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: Like I was at Costco last week and they have this massive 15-foot skeleton thing that looks like he's coming out of the ground.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I sent her a picture and she said, bring it home.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, well, it's not gonna fit in my car first and foremost.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: Second of all, it's $500.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: So are we spending $500 on a Halloween decoration
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: But then she will come back with.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: Well, if it was a Christmas decoration, you'd spend 500 bucks on it, which is true because they have this big huge light up like star thing that they have out already at Costco.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm a Christmas nut like November first, it's all about putting all the stuff up in the house, putting, getting the lights up on the house, you know, the trees come in soon like all this stuff.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know man how like Halloween's just different to me.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like as I've gotten older like because I know how much I decorate for Christmas like I don't want to have to do that twice because then you set up all the decorations for Halloween and then you have to take them all down and you get a box of all up, put them all away.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: And then you got to get all the Christmas stuff which is 10 times more than the Halloween stuff.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know it's I can't imagine like
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: when it's like freezing cold snowing in Buffalo.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: I don't live in Buffalo anymore, news flash, like I don't live in Buffalo anymore.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: I was born and raised there, but I don't live there.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I can't imagine like,
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: November 1st and there's just a blizzard outside and you're trying to put your Christmas decorations up like I can't And I know Greg lives in North Carolina so I can't it's not he's he's kind of in the same situation is me where it's not that bad, but I don't know we just We were talking about it.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: I thought like we'd add some a little bit of sprinkle a little bit of personal stuff into the show.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of feel like as we go along here and and Greg and myself grow this show and grow this platform
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like you guys are going to get to know us more and more and, you know, we're just two dads that work from home that, you know, just just live in the good life, I guess.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: So, all right, Brandon Bean's press conference.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: We are going to talk about the bills injuries.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: I know that was the main topic, a main title of the show.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: We will talk about the bills, players that are returning to practice from injury, but it kind of ties in with what Brandon Bean, a lot of what he spoke on yesterday.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: The bills media,
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: Did ask a lot of questions yesterday and he did, you know, give a lot of time to the media yesterday.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: So I have some nuggets of some stuff that I feel is is very interesting and some things with Brandon being you have to read kind of between the T leaves and you kind of got a kind of you take things for what they are.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: He does give you more information.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: I will say in years past, we were so used to shot McDermott not giving a lot of context with like, when he was answering questions.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm hoping from what I've seen so far from Joe Brady.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen a lot more and especially Jim Leonard too, like I've seen a lot more straight forward answers and Brandon beans seems to always give you like he'll he'll go above and beyond to try to talk about certain things to give you his perspective on stuff which I like I like about him so this is no particular order of of how things rolled out through his presser Michael Hoyt
- 6:55[SPEAKER_00]: So I think we talked about him a little bit yesterday about how everybody has said that we need to protect Michael Hoyt from himself because he wants to go 110 miles an hour and he's coming off the ACL injury, which we saw what happened with Von Miller now, Von Miller's older than Michael Hoyt, but we saw the season that Von Miller had.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: After he came back from the ACL, I think he finished the season with zero tackle zero sacks, just kind of was out there and then the next season he came back and looked a little bit more like Vaughan.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: But again, older, right?
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: So Brandon being said that it's hopeful that he's ready for a week one.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't want to read too much into that.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: So what would you take from that statement that he's hopeful that Michael Hoelty's ready to go for a week one?
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: I read from that, I don't think he's playing week one, right?
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: He's probably going to be an inactive.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: If he does play, my guess is going to be it's going to be very limited snaps.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just going to try to ramp him up into it.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: But generally when I hear General Manager say, hopeful, unless it's, unless it's Josh, I mean, even if it's Josh Allen, like, hey, we're hopefully can play that's more of a negative to me than a positive sign.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_01]: So my guess is he's going to be an active week one.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: week two as well.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's only a couple days later.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_01]: And then you get your pretty much build in, you know, an extra two plus week of rest for them.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's going to be important.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_01]: My wife is laughing at me yesterday.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, you had to bring up your knee surgeries, right?
- 8:30[SPEAKER_01]: Again, full disclosure, I'm not an NFL player.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: I've had both ACLs born, I've repaired them both, right?
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: They much better tools, but like for his position, where he's planting, just like Vonwise, you're planting your kick-in-off, you need that burst there for what he's doing in that back and forth.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Diggs is a free kick-in-back pretty quickly and he was able to cut like he did.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a lot on that body, right?
- 8:53[SPEAKER_01]: So I think if you can get him two to three more weeks, I think you get him two to three more weeks.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I always thought it was going to be a wait and see with him.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was going to be, you know, let's, you know, I was even surprised he played in the third preseason game.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think they just kind of wanted to give him some snaps and see what he was able to do because we've been hearing since the beginning of spring, how he was going to be ready for training camp.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_00]: He was going to be ready for July.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: He was going to be ready for training camp, then he was going to be ready for week one.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: If you ask Brandon Bean, Joe Brady, Jim Leonard, you asked Michael Hoyt himself who was out there making the press rounds like he's ready to go and I think the depth that they have at that position.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that this is a time where we could see Javan Solomon doing what they wanted Michael Hoyt to do because when Michael Hoyt went out last year, Sean McDermott tried to have Solomon do it.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it worked out with the style of defense
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: McDermott had and I think this system kind of caters more towards Solomon being able to do some of that stuff kind of just being that.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: that odd man out that confuses offences, like he's lining up on the end, he's lining up in the middle.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: Now he's over here, you know, he's standing up his hands in the dirt like so, that's gonna be interesting to see.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm hoping they don't rush him back too soon because again, we saw last year, even though it was only a six quarter sample size, what he was able to do just being that confusing chess piece that the bills will have on defense.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: So he also talked about Turl Bernard
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: There hasn't been a lot made about, he missed time in the spring, he missed a little bit of time in the summer, but there's not been much that's come out in the past.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_00]: I'd say month that they were concerned about his health and being said yesterday, he was a little nicked up and they're not, he didn't say hopeful with him, but he said he should be ready to go for week one.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: So what's your thoughts on Terrell Bernard?
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: at length about how thin they are at linebacker at inside linebacker.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_00]: So what's your thoughts on the whole the Terrell Bernard comments and stuff like that?
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: I've got to believe he's going to play, right?
- 11:20[SPEAKER_01]: Because we talk about this yesterday, right?
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: He just mentioned a depth of the linebacker room.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, you have Shack Thompson.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_01]: They can slot in there, but he's not slotting in.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: Plus, same positions.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: And of white lines up being out.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: You are pressed in there.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: My guess is he's going to play.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be interesting once we actually start getting official injury reports, what that designation comes to.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: But I hear things like a nicked up thinking, you know, maybe a bad bone bruise, you could have a slight sprain or something like that, that you just need some time and a little bit of rehab for and you'll be fine.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_01]: They, it's never, I mean, it's football, right?
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: People are going to get hurt.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to get hurt at practice, preseason games.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm always concerned going in the week one where especially on their new schemes and everything you've got a process learn, you know, even muscle memory changes a little bit at that point, right?
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: We start going into the season with injury after injury and these key positions, especially someone like, you know, Bernard,
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: I take a little bit of a pause here, especially with two games and four days, and that's a tough task.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: So I assume he'll be fine.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: My guests will probably push through that first two, and then again, you get a little bit of extend of time resting after that second one.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: But my guests will be fine.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_01]: I don't like hearing that you have so many nicks early to a positional group where you don't necessarily have the greatest depth.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, two plus obviously everybody knows he had that ankle surgery and he played last season.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: He said it was his toughest season in the NFL because he was playing through injuries every single week.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: So it's again, it's a guy that
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: we've talked about.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: I've talked about for a couple years now about I don't I hate the term injury prone because his position is such a combative position to where he's like a missile right he's just flying at players constantly trying to make tackles he's taking on blocks he's cutting across the field you know
- 13:18[SPEAKER_00]: closing on players fed all that stuff right so hopefully he's ready to go and hopefully like you said and that's our next topic he talked about Shack Thompson and he said Shack Thompson's gonna be ramped up a hundred percent like just to be ready just in case and I feel like Shack Thompson might be another one of those guys he probably wanted to be on a roster
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: But he's a veteran, right?
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: Do you want to, like we talked about Greg Gaines yesterday, like do you want to go spend the time in the dorms away from your family?
- 13:51[SPEAKER_00]: Do you want to go through the rigors of training camp when you've done it 10 times already in your career?
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe there was conversations along the way of, hey, shack, you know, we're very interested in bringing you in, you know, what,
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we, we like to keep the conversations going, you know, throughout the summer into preseason.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I, I have to believe that there was conversations with Brandon Bean and Joe Brady and Shack Thompson about hey, we're definitely going to bring you at some point.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_00]: And Shack wasn't signed to another team.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I don't know if there was other offers out there, but Shack said yesterday,
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: It went, you know, he met with the press after practice, he said I wanted to be in Buffalo.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: Similar to something very similar to what he said at the end of the season, after McDermott was like, oh, he said, I want to play football, I want to play in Buffalo.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_00]: So I feel like it was just a waiting period to bring him back.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I can't imagine he's going to be on the practice squad very long.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_00]: Now, they might need to get him reps in the new defense, but
- 14:59[SPEAKER_00]: Shax played all over different styles.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: He can he can seamlessly fit right in there.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_00]: So what's your what's your thoughts?
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: We talked a little bit on Shax yesterday, but what's your thoughts on beans comments about getting him ready, you know, to play a game in game shape is what he said, game ready.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, I think I think being also said yesterday that he doesn't expect check to be ready for week one, they were trying to ramp them up for week one, but I think the expectation was he's not playing, which also tells me that Bernard is probably healthy enough to play, but again, you're kind of pushing, you get through one, two quarters and maybe he's not ready enough to play or something happens.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: Now we start consolidating that down.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_01]: So it'll be interesting to see what they actually do with him, whether he is indeed in an act of for game one.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_01]: And then if that changes for game two, maybe it's just looking at the new scheme, watching it for one game, being like, all right, I can jump in where I need to get some rotational stuff there.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: The more I look at it, I was thinking about this after a conversation yesterday, Dave, and the more I kind of watch this and look at it,
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's more of an necessity that they'll sign them.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to play a big role for this.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think if nothing else, just to kind of settle things, when things don't go as planned.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: And at some point, they will not go as planned.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's just the nature of sports.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_01]: But just kind of looking at that there.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think he solidifies that and studies a little bit.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_01]: So the more I think about it, the more I love the signing, I think he's just going to be a necessary
- 16:34[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, it's tough to get a read on whether he's actually going to be ready to play if week one or not, and whether they're going to want to put him out there.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: To me, it was, they need a veteran, right?
- 16:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, Terrell Bernard technically has been in the NFL to be considered a veteran.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_00]: He's been here a while, but to me, you have Dorian Williams, who's, this is his fourth year, but still younger, right?
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: Caleb Ealarm's or Rookie, Joe Andrews in second year.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_00]: So I think,
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: bringing in a guy like Shaq, we saw what he did last year.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_00]: We saw how important of a piece he was and everybody was concerned with his injury history.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_00]: But he was healthy for the most part of the season.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_00]: And then when you have a guy like Toro Bernard who has spent time in the past couple years on and off missing time, playing missing time.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm just excited, I like what he brings
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: a versatility factor, and I think having that veteran in that room, that leadership, I think it's going to be paramount over the season.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_00]: So, Bean talked about pot returner, and yes, Greg Dorch is from Rochester.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't know that until yesterday.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_00]: Apparently he lived in Rochester until he was seven years old.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_00]: He's got family that lives there.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_00]: So, in an interview yesterday, after practice, he was talking about how he's excited to come home.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_00]: So, that was kind of cool.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_00]: Um, again, we talked about it yesterday.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody's in my mentions telling me, why are you so worried about punt returns and all this and that?
- 18:05[SPEAKER_00]: So huge piece, right?
- 18:06[SPEAKER_00]: Like, feel, feel position after you get your when your defense gets the opposing offense off the field.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's all about depending on how many times did we see this year, just horrible starting field position for this past season.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, for the bills after the defense got off the field, like they were starting at their 12.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_00]: They were starting at their 15.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_00]: They were starting at their 9.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_00]: Now I'm not saying that's not going to happen in some games this year because we have an elite pump returner in Greg Dorch if that is who they were all out there.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_00]: But the bills were 26 in the NFL
- 18:44[SPEAKER_00]: after a punt.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_00]: For a team that has Super Bowl aspirations, that's, that's not good, right?
- 18:50[SPEAKER_00]: You want to be at least in the top half.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_00]: So that way you're not putting that much more on the plate of Josh Allen to have to have these longer extended drives.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_00]: So what's your thought we talked, we touched a little bit on punt returning yesterday.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, this was before Brandon being spoke on it.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_00]: He said that they have several guys that they're still looking at.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: What's your thoughts
- 19:13[SPEAKER_01]: This is, you sign them to the practice squad with the assumption that, yeah, they recognize they have a need, they're gonna fill out that need.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: Here's a guy that, we've got people on the staff who has worked with them.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_01]: He's good at what he does.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_01]: He also fills this role here, but we had this conversation yesterday about how many receivers we dressed in on Game Day and for Dreson Dorge, and he's not really part of the receiving plan, like where does that leave him?
- 19:43[SPEAKER_01]: that they sign in because they recognize us and he gives you something that maybe the other ones aren't giving you in a consistent enough fashion or they just need more time.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_01]: We, you know, Brady mentioned for the last game, like I want to see him return, like field puns in the in the lights, right?
- 20:00[SPEAKER_01]: Because now we have a lot more lights at the state and they're not used to what happened the first time.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: You're like right through his hands and muffled him and my guess is maybe you're moving.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_01]: You've got the lights at the same time, right?
- 20:09[SPEAKER_01]: You just kind of lose track of it, but that's a real thing.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_01]: So, like, week one, I would bet money to Georgia's back they're taking puns.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_01]: And if they need to move, not move a mile, but if they need to reduce his roles the season goes on, they will work to fit other people in to that role versus fit him in when there's a need.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I agree with you.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_01]: I can't tell you how many times I'm on my couch last year, just complaining.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, here we go again.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_01]: We're at the 11-yard line.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, what is going on?
- 20:41[SPEAKER_01]: team obviously cares about field position.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_01]: You don't wish now ski is no longer on this team because he's inconsistent, you know, we're giving up, we're giving up short drive, you know, drives and we need to be giving and, you know, we're working on the opposite side years.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it is important.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's why you draft mannerized us some years ago with the promise that guy can booted 80 yards.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's important there, but I expect George to be on the game day roster week one.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_00]: And surprisingly, I went back and looked at some of his, some of his film from not point returns, but as a receiver.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_00]: Guys got hands.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: And obviously, he's got wheels.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_00]: So, yes, he's a slot.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_00]: Technically, he's a slot receiver.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: But I feel like so, and I hate to do this, but so say something happens.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_00]: Again, there was a comment from John talking about Khalil Shakir.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_00]: He was reportedly dinged up.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_00]: There wasn't a report on him returning back to practice.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm not saying Shakir is gonna miss any time.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not no stradomas.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: I can't predict the future.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: But say there's an issue with King K, right?
- 21:50[SPEAKER_00]: Who is a guy that's,
- 21:52[SPEAKER_00]: we talked about yesterday who is essentially another past catcher, and that's why I possibly the bill's kept four tight ends, which we'll talk about in a little bit, like I can see a world where dorscious catching passes.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_00]: I can, because the way that you Skyler Bell in
- 22:11[SPEAKER_00]: the final preseason game with that end around and then he had that touchdown.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like they were trying to see, okay, what else is he able to do with the ball in his hands?
- 22:21[SPEAKER_00]: Greg Dorch with the ball in his hands is able to do the same type of things that Isaiah McKenzie was able to do.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_00]: that I don't think you want to do with Khalil Shakir, I feel like you want to give Khalil Shakir more downfield routes, not saying he's not going to get bubble screens and that the easy stuff that he can convert in with the accuards.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_00]: But I just, I feel like there's more to it.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_00]: In the lion's sign Greg Dorch, I thought he was going to be one of their five receivers then they released him and they don't Detroit only kept four wider receivers, which is baffling to me.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_00]: So, he said yesterday that he was shocked that he was released.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_00]: Like, he thought for sure that when he signed there, he was going to be doing the returns and he was going to be fourth or fifth receiver.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_00]: So, I can see a world where there was kind of conversations about, let's sign you to the practice squad.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_00]: Let's get you up to speed with that.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_00]: But I can absolutely see a world where the bills are dressing six on game day.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_00]: And then obviously, they have 10 offensive linemen on the roster.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_00]: Is that a place where you maybe only carry nine or something like that?
- 23:27[SPEAKER_00]: So it's going to be interesting to see how they play the roster gymnastics with him.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: But I like the the Shack Thompson and the Greg Dorks signings.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like both those guys can contribute right away.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and you might have, I mean, you might make even if you want to I can't imagine they go into a game with 10 offense of Lyme.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_01]: And but even if you want to pull someone from a different positional group, yeah.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: come in for, you know, extra safety blankets.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: We'll probably talk about safety.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure with Gardener Johnson and stuff.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, even if you want to go, okay, we're gonna have Dorchry return puns here.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know, maybe Skylar Bell's inactive for a game, or you have, you know, you've slot him in.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_01]: So you just carry white lines.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: You got four receivers.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_01]: Dorch is maybe your fifth receiver on game day.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_01]: Again, maybe why you filter people in, but it is an option, right?
- 24:17[SPEAKER_01]: They've got some flexibility with what they want to do on the roster for game days.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and it's hard because we don't know the thought process from Joe Brady, right?
- 24:26[SPEAKER_00]: Do they want to get Skyler Bell and it fell reps so that way once they get, you know, as a schedule progresses, they can trust him more.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_00]: Josh can trust him more, you know what I mean?
- 24:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like, because even though he was a fourth round pick, I feel like,
- 24:45[SPEAKER_00]: they see a lot of upside in Skylar Bell.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of things that we've seen in her, especially from the Bill's media, the national media, like a lot of people are talking about, well, how did this guy make it to the fourth round?
- 25:00[SPEAKER_00]: Like this guy should be on and he should have been drafted in the second round.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 25:04[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, it's going to be interesting to see what they do with him because at the end of the day, you want your most trusted players out there.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: You want the best guys out there and Greg Dorch is an NFL wide receiver.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_00]: Like he's, I put a highlight reel out yesterday of him catching a whole bunch of touchdowns.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_00]: So it's going to be interesting to see.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_00]: That bleeds kind of into, yep, go ahead.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I was going to say, like you, I don't want to secure back there either.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like to me, he's too important to the passing game.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_01]: I can't have him taking hits on, on returns.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, 100%.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_00]: We got it.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_00]: There's a jet fan in our chat.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_00]: That's funny.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_00]: There we go.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_00]: So we talked a little bit about the tight ends and Dalton can cade in why they kept for.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_00]: So Brandon Bean said, and I quote, we kept the best 53 players.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_00]: Clicky a lot to me, and we touched on it a little bit yesterday.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about the blocking aspect.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he's, if he's in the game, the bills are running 13 person L or whatever.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_00]: If he's in the game, I don't expect a ton of targets to him.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_00]: I expect him to be used.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to say in place of Dalton, Kincaid,
- 26:18[SPEAKER_00]: but you have him on the roster to take away a little bit of that tight-end aspect away from Dalton cancade if that makes any sense.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_00]: Like, now again, I could be completely off-base and they just love the guy as a player.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_00]: They love what he contributes on special teams, and stuff like that.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: But to me, if I'm trying to keep Dalton can cade on this trajectory that he's on to be 100% all the time and just keep that going, I'm giving him
- 26:48[SPEAKER_00]: I'm giving him the reps where he's running routes, constantly.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_00]: Now...
- 26:52[SPEAKER_00]: And on the flip side of that, opposing defensive coordinators are going to catch on to that right if Dalton can case on the field he's running routes right he's not blocking so whatever formation they're using just pay attention to Dalton can case he's going to run around so I mean I guess you could six and one half half a dozen in the other but what's your what's your thoughts on the fortite ends and Brandon beans comments on I just want the best 53 I we one of the best 53 on the roster so we only kept five receivers.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_01]: I get what he's saying.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure I 100% believe it though.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_01]: I'd like a lot to, I think this is a pure depth thing, right?
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: This goes into, I think we talked a little bit about this yesterday as well.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_01]: Do they trust can cater to be healthy all season?
- 27:37[SPEAKER_01]: Do they need that security blanket with someone in the offense, going through the motions every single day understands exactly what they need to do and they could slide in these different roles?
- 27:46[SPEAKER_01]: So to me, this screen is a lot more of,
- 27:51[SPEAKER_01]: We have a guy who we love, who is theoretically a game changer for us in King Cade and we don't know if he's going to be healthy this year And if he's not healthy, we still need to have our three tight ends and this this just seems like an obvious play to me as you keep the fourth one because of that
- 28:08[SPEAKER_01]: I can very well see the imagine going in week to week in having lots of sort of match up dependent, but be in an active for the game if you've got three other healthy guys and if not you're probably going for.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: But you know this kind of goes into like what Jackson Haas is doing too right so we don't have a full back.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_01]: Got Jackson Haas who's probably going to play that full back roll.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: You know, are we doing, this might be a different conversation with different day, but Oh, you know, that's fine.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_01]: He's third in ones that Josh Allen is, you know, 99% getting every single time, right?
- 28:45[SPEAKER_01]: Do we want to reduce that?
- 28:47[SPEAKER_01]: We've seen Kansas City do it.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_01]: We've seen other teams do it as well.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Mark Andrews does it.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_01]: They always get the first down, but you have them do that, you know, the snow plow or Tush push or whatever, you know, maybe because some of these tight ends start fitting in there as well.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I can see Haas doing this as opposed to the full back side of things.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think you've got for as a security blanket.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: You got to protect and play the what if game and what if can get hurt, which can't take off the table right now.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: You just can't.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you just open up a whole another.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_00]: I know we're going to talk about tomorrow and I'm not going to spoil it, but
- 29:32[SPEAKER_00]: This is year nine for Josh Allen right he's 30 and I don't want to spoil too much because I feel like we can talk about this for a lot for a lot of time tomorrow, but having an actual tight end.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_00]: Because don't don't the ravens use the guy that's like 260 pounds or something like that don't they have a full back that's like massive is it the ravens a pretty sure it's the ravens and why wouldn't you Jackson Hawse who's a psychopath certifiable psychopath and a good way I feel like.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_00]: But then again, too, we just talked about game planning from opposing teams, like if King Cades out there and he's never a blocking tight end and he's just running around.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, if you put Jackson Halls in the back field, teams are gonna, like, here they go, they're third one, they're definitely running it.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_00]: Not saying you could stop it because I feel like you can still get it.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_00]: But,
- 30:29[SPEAKER_00]: Again, we don't know the mindset of how much different the run game is going to look now with Joe Brady with full control not just the offensive coordinator he and we don't know how much McDermott was saying.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_00]: to just give it to Josh, the he's the best player in the universe, just give it to Josh.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to get the one yard.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'm kind of torn because we know how Joe Brady feels about Josh Allen and he constantly says 17 needs to have the ball in his hands when we need to make a play, 17 get the ball in 17.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_00]: He just like repeatedly, he has that just come out of his mouth every time he has a press conference.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 31:10[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be interesting.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like like you said with the four tight ends, it does give them some more flexibility to do.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_00]: more things in short yardage, run more 12 and 13 personnel.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_00]: I know that in the past, the bills have loved having the two tight ends on the field, and I don't know if that was a Joe Brady thing, or if that was a Sean McDermott thing, because Sean McDermott is an old school code just like Smashmouth football, that you have two tight ends on the field.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_00]: especially Jackson Haas, Dawson Knox is a hell of a block or two, but that helps you run games.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_00]: So it's going to be interesting to see how they deploy the tight ends.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_00]: Like are they going to, like we said, are they going to use concave and passing only, Knox is a highly underrated past catcher.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like the guy just makes plays.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_00]: There was times in games last year and in Josh Allen said BPCs and where he,
- 32:09[SPEAKER_00]: and you didn't expect it.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_00]: So it's going to be interesting to see.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_00]: If you guys are watching on YouTube, please subscribe to our channel.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_00]: We are trying to grow this thing.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_00]: Again, that's Greg.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Dave.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_00]: This is First and Five.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_00]: We're here Monday through Friday at noon.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_00]: Every single weekday hit the like button.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_00]: That's the best way to support the channel.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_00]: Guys, drop comments in the live chat.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_00]: If you want to drop a super chat that definitely will get recognized, we'll put that up on the screen immediately and wherever you're watching this please share and get the word out about first and five so Brandon being brought up an interesting nugget about CJ Gardner Johnson who as of late has been kind of quiet when training camp started he was everywhere right he was all over the place like he was doing stuff in dorm rooms he was doing stuff off the field
- 32:56[SPEAKER_00]: And then preseason happened and right before preseason he got injured and we haven't really heard or seen much from CJ Gardner Johnson, which is, I guess it's okay either way right, but he was asked about Gardner Johnson's injury that he received that he had at St. John Fisher and Brandon being said that he was dealing with something else and didn't elaborate at all, so he was at practice yesterday, he was back practicing yesterday, so what's your thoughts?
- 33:24[SPEAKER_00]: did CJ Gardner Johnson potentially come back too early and maybe he tweaked something else, Brandon being said it was unrelated.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_00]: So what's your what's your thoughts, you know, on that?
- 33:33[SPEAKER_01]: So I know he said is unrelated.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to put my guessing head on here.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_01]: So calf strain, right?
- 33:40[SPEAKER_01]: Anytime you do anything to your body, I'm not a doctor, full disclosure, my marketing guy.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_01]: Anytime anytime you put something on your body, right?
- 33:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to strain anything else around there.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_01]: So whatever it is,
- 33:52[SPEAKER_01]: what we constantly see like you know Aaron Rogers dealt with that before he tore his Achilles, but what we constantly see is he people with calf strength, right?
- 33:59[SPEAKER_01]: We watched Kevin Durant do it in the was that the NBA finals, right, came back early Achilles pops.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_01]: You put him a lot of strength on Achilles.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_01]: My first got when he said that was, oh, he just he's got Achilles tendonitis or some sort of, you know, pull back there, they're just rebate to the calf.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if he's being
- 34:18[SPEAKER_01]: Koi about it, right?
- 34:19[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't want Houston to realize that he's got a legacy.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it's a shoulder or something else.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't know if it's being Koi, my first instinct that my gut still tells me, it's probably some sort of a killy thing and probably just 10 the night is or a strain there that is connected to the calf.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_01]: I think, we talked a little bit about safety depth yesterday.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_01]: Like if he's not able to go for a week one or he tries to push it, come back week one and then he's got to sit out the Thursday night game for a week two.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_01]: Right, who will be thrown back there and is it going to be, you know, we rotating kilk or in there, are we doing, is it hand cock feeling in that slide?
- 34:53[SPEAKER_01]: We put it tomorrow out there, right?
- 34:54[SPEAKER_01]: How is this rotation going through?
- 34:56[SPEAKER_01]: So, I don't know, my gut still tells me it's some sort of a kill he's strained or tender night is there.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_01]: I do think it's related.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see when the injury reports start to come out though, but I, you know, get the guy some rest.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_01]: Let's let, yeah, I'm to the point of, let's get these guys healthy and see what we got coming out.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, a hundred percent.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, hopefully it's nothing too serious.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it immediately like there was no follow up questions.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_00]: It was just like move on to the next topic.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, so we'll see he mentioned about how heavy he wanted to go outside linebacker.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about it yesterday having some nice depth.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_00]: outside the linebacker slash edge defender, past, Russia, however you want to quote them in this new system.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_00]: He said that he is impressed with what Bradley Chubba's done.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_00]: So far, not just on the field, but in the locker room, he's kind of been a silent leader.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 35:51[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't be surprised if Bradley Chubby asks it's his first year in Buffalo, but I wouldn't be surprised if he is a captain for this team because he has the most experience.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_00]: So that was kind of interesting about how they, they talked about inside and outside linebacker and they had a number that they wanted for the combined amount of both.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_00]: And that's where they said along that.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_00]: All right, Max will hairsten, we talked about him yesterday.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_00]: So, I think that a lot of bills fans are kind of split, 50, 50 on Maxwell-Herstin.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not saying anybody's right.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying anybody is wrong.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_00]: I'm the opinion it's your opinion you're entitled to it.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_00]: Brennan being said that they are 100% confident in Maxwell Harrison's ability.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_00]: He even said, he called it out and said he understands about the mistaq that he had in the Browns game and he made a mistake but he needs reps and he looked good the rest of the joint practice and some of the other stuff going on.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_00]: So he talked about IGB, he talked about DL for being able to go play outside, he talked about hand cock all this stuff.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_00]: If Brandon Bean says he's confident in his first round draft pick from last year, how confident are you in Maxwell Heirston?
- 37:18[SPEAKER_00]: I'll phrase it that way.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_01]: So I am confident enough.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_01]: If I can hedge my bet there.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_01]: So I said yesterday, at some point, I expect, and I think the bills will need IgB to pass Harrison,
- 37:39[SPEAKER_01]: Harrison can't still become a really good player, but I like the skill set of IGB a little bit more.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think he fits a defense just a little bit better from what we anticipate.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think Harrison will be able to hold his own though.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it's good enough.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully he continues to get better.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_01]: He's still a very young guy.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_01]: He has not had a lot of playing time because of injuries.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like the injury thing again, I'm like you, I don't like to say people are injury prone, but if the kids body size based on like, we talk about cold bishop, I'm like, that guy shoots like a missile.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_01]: Harrison, like he runs with speed and he's gonna throw himself out there.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think expect he's gonna get some bouncing bruises and the season goes on soon.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm confident enough at least to start the season.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to get tested though, like the bill schedule, this first, you know, the first half of the season.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_01]: He's not going to get many like days here.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_01]: He was going to have to be a lighter day, because they got me go Collins and, I don't know, some other people there, but like, you know, Detroit, he's going to get press.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to see exactly what's going to get made up when he starts week two, you know, that Thursday night came.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm confident enough, I don't know what number that is, but I do need him to get better.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_01]: The beans comments don't really surprise me.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like what is it gonna say?
- 38:58[SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, we don't really like this guy here, right?
- 39:01[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_01]: But, I mean, you've got IGB, high draft pick, not able to pass them 100% yet.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think you got to pump this guy up as much as you can because if IGB could pass them already, they probably would have.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so this jet's fan is just trolling now.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_00]: Rebuild year for the jets, or for the bills.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_00]: All right, you keep it's always when you build your for the jets.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I'll just leave that one alone.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_00]: All right, he talked about Josh Allen and his maturity over the last two years.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_00]: He said that Josh Allen has gone through some of them, you know, extremely high life changing, you know, he got engaged, got married and had a child.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 39:46[SPEAKER_00]: I guess they were trying to figure out as have you seen a different level to Josh's maturity because he's now a dad.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Brandon Bean for the ninth year or eighth year in a row has said he's never seen a more focused Josh Allen on football.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_00]: So you take that for what you want, I don't know what that means to you Greg,
- 40:12[SPEAKER_00]: Does that mean anything to you about how Josh is more focused on football?
- 40:16[SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to talk about the top 100 and quarterbacks.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_00]: The top 100 here in a little bit.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_00]: But what's your thoughts about Josh?
- 40:22[SPEAKER_00]: I own being the most mature version of Josh Allen that he's ever seen.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_00]: What's your thoughts?
- 40:27[SPEAKER_01]: They've got a lot of thoughts here.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, first of all, it should be right.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_01]: He's a year older.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone matures with age, becoming a father will absolutely mature you and in some different hundred percent.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_01]: Other fathers or parents out there listening will understand this if you are planning kids at some point you will recognize remember this conversation the second you have a kid because it will change.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_01]: So I expect that I'm trying to figure out Dave if like.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_01]: I like McDermott, it wasn't calling from the fire, but I was perfectly fine with the move.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, okay, make sense.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_01]: Time to move on.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going with it.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't love the Joe Brady hire.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully I have to go back on that one, but I feel like there are just grenades.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_01]: paper cuts, right?
- 41:19[SPEAKER_01]: Slowly lobbed over at McDermott at every stretch of the imagination, right?
- 41:24[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like Brady's done it.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like beans done it.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like players have done it.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like reporters have done it.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I feel like strength and conditioning coaches now have done it.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like this is just another one of those jabs to be like,
- 41:37[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the guy was getting burned out of the same system.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_01]: He's not getting to help the receiver that he deserved the last couple of years with, you know, throwing these guys out there and now we have it.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, I read it as going, yeah, the guy is matured he's a stand up guy in the community Buffalo is glad, you know, they are they are so lucky to have someone like that represent their be the face of their brand.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_01]: But I just keep seeing these digs after my terminal.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if it's just ran its course there, or I'm reading into it too much.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_01]: But he might be a renewed, because I've got a new system, they're taking this is the one thing.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_01]: Like, are we taking the chains off of Joe Brady or was he doing it himself?
- 42:17[SPEAKER_01]: And this might just get him re-energized with it.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like, hey, I know I'm gonna be able to check the ball around this year.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't have to second a one.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have to hand it and run up the middle every single time.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_01]: you know, I can start launching these things.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_01]: So I see it coming from a lot different ways.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_01]: Dave, and I keep feeling like McDermott is is getting jabbed every possible moment he can.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_00]: I feel the same way.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I'll preface what I'm going to say about like I'm not a McDermott apologist.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not a McDermott defender.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's over and done with we talked about it all for I talked about it.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_00]: too many times back in February, right?
- 42:56[SPEAKER_00]: I understand that it was time for a change.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_00]: I appreciate everything that Sean McDermott did for the Buffalo Bill's organization.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_00]: Say, I know for a fact that he's a hell of a human being.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_00]: I know for a fact that he's a extremely well-thought of person in the Buffalo community, yada, yada, yada.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's just, I feel like when we're watching things
- 43:24[SPEAKER_00]: It's never as what it seems, right?
- 43:27[SPEAKER_00]: We hear the stories about how Josh once a week would go over and have dinner at McDermott's house because they lived in close proximity to each other, right?
- 43:34[SPEAKER_00]: We heard about that.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_00]: We heard about Josh's relationship with some of the other coaching staff that's no longer here and things like that.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_00]: But I also feel like we didn't, and we probably will never be privy to the information
- 43:54[SPEAKER_00]: of how.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_00]: Because if I'm being honest with you, there was never really times when I felt like Josh Allen and Sean McDermott were like, we're like this.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like they were probably close because it was head coach quarterback.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know what that perfect relationship looks like on another NFL team that I can give you an example of.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_00]: But I feel like they just kinda coexisted.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_00]: Does that make sense?
- 44:17[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like they just kinda coexisted.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_00]: They thought highly of each other.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_00]: They spoke highly of each other.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_00]: And Josh Allen's never going to be that guy that's going to come out and say anything disparaging about anybody.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_00]: He's just not that guy.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_00]: He's never going to say anything negative about a former coach teammate, you know, a former player or former whatever.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_00]: He's just not going to do that.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_00]: But honestly, I feel like back.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_00]: a few months ago, there was a lot of talk about how Josh is reinvigorated.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_00]: I guess that's the word I could probably use.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_00]: He's got this new outlook on stuff and you could tie that in with heaven and baby to get tie that in with being married now.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_00]: He's 30, right?
- 45:00[SPEAKER_00]: He's he's starting to turn the other side of 30.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know like I agree with you though about how it seems like there
- 45:13[SPEAKER_00]: more and more pokes at some stuff that was done in the past.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_00]: And is not going to be done anymore with talking about Sean McDermott and I don't know at some point we just can we just move on like we you know we don't need to constantly keep poking at something that's it's already it's over and done with.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_00]: Now I will say that to say this we're going to find out a lot about Brandon being this year.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_00]: because the roster was built a certain way this year.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_00]: And it's a little bit different than it was built last year.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_00]: The practice squad looks different than it was built last year.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_00]: Free agency in the draft were different than they were in previous years.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to see, you know, signing CJ Gardner Johnson.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_00]: I don't feel like that would have ever happened in the Sean McDermott.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_00]: regime.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think so either.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_00]: You know, not because he's not a good player, just because Sean McDermott liked things done a certain way.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_00]: He liked a little net like he liked a little nasty in his players, but
- 46:19[SPEAKER_00]: I think with CJ Gardner Johnson and I love I love everything that he does like I love aspect of he's going to hit you and he's going to let you know he's going to make a play and he's going to let everybody know he's going to talk from the time he gets off the bus I love that about him but the culture that was instilled was Sean McDermott was like we're here to play football we're not here to do all this extra curricular stuff you know what I'm saying so
- 46:43[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, and I kind of went long on that, but I can talk for three hours about the Sean McDermott era and how it's been perceived now, because I do feel like as we go along, it's going to be poked at more.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to start poking holes in stuff that he did.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't want to say that they're going to play, place blame in why Josh Haleons entering
- 47:11[SPEAKER_00]: but it's gonna, I think it's gonna continue to happen and I feel like as a fan of this team, I just want to, can we just move on?
- 47:18[SPEAKER_00]: Can we just, let's push forward because Joe Brady better, he better make the Super Bowl soon.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_00]: Because if he doesn't, he's no better than Sean McDermott, right?
- 47:30[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Sean McDermott made two AFC championship games.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, the expectations have to be high as high can be.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_00]: So anyways, I don't want to talk too much on that.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_00]: That is a good topic for I think maybe either tomorrow or Friday we can have a full show on the Josh Allen, hitting his prime, all that stuff.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's a really good topic.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I think we could have a really candid conversation about that.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_00]: So anything else on Josh Allen and his maturity, are we concerned about his maturity and his new outlook
- 48:03[SPEAKER_01]: not on the maturity and you can cut me off and we could push this to a different date.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_01]: But we're talking about so I mentioned yesterday like I'm trying to get a sense of what Joe is Brady's offense is, right?
- 48:15[SPEAKER_01]: I've been really critical of it the last two years.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_01]: These bubble screens and running on second to one and the question ultimately becomes that we just had like how much of that was a McDermott thing versus a Brady thing and how they found that balance there.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_01]: So I look at, you just mentioned the McDermott Allen relationship, but where I look at, okay, what is this offense going to actually be when I got a receiver?
- 48:43[SPEAKER_01]: We've got four tight ends.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_01]: We've got a pass from receiver, or passing tight end.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_01]: Think about Chash Allen, right?
- 48:50[SPEAKER_01]: He comes in, may even Peter Bins is starter over him, which is unbelievable just to think about now in a very quickly turn the Josh out after 10 intersections and three quarters, but
- 49:03[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it was still very conservative.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_01]: You go through you bring Dave ball in, and they were still, they were throwing it more, but it was still kind of this ball control offense, and they're getting smoked at half time the one day.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_01]: And what's a, I think maybe Tyler Don had the story, but like Dave ball was just like, effort, I'm throwing it.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_01]: And then they went on a tear and sort of launched and stuff out.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_01]: And then all of a sudden, McDermott's like, oh yeah, we got the guy, he wanted to throw it before.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_01]: He wasn't throwing it.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_01]: And then you kind of bring Brady and which is kind of this mix there, but you had doors to be for that, which was relatively conservative, like he's just not a very good play collar, then you bring Brady and I feel like McDermott was always kind of pulling it back and if I read those leaves correctly and I'm trying to figure out what Joe Brady's offense is going to be it's going to tell me that Alan might be reinvigorated his maturity level because he knows he's going to let him air it out this year a little bit more, which I would love to see myself.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's kind of a really long tangent day.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_01]: If so, no, it's like, like, no.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm reading these T leaves and I could be 100% wrong, but it gives me this indication that maybe I was wrong and Joe Brady, and we're the sort of chucking it around all day long.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's only more than we have, right?
- 50:19[SPEAKER_01]: We've got some hooks up.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_00]: So, and this might just be like, I might just be playing Captain Obvious here, but Sean McDermott, when he came to Buffalo, we all know he hired Rico Denison,
- 50:33[SPEAKER_00]: to be his offensive coordinator, that lasted one year, then he got Brian Deball.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_00]: Brian Deball is older than Sean McDermott, right?
- 50:40[SPEAKER_00]: Brian Deball has been successful as a coordinator in college and in DNFL, right?
- 50:47[SPEAKER_00]: So I feel like there was always
- 50:51[SPEAKER_00]: tension there that we didn't find out about until after Brian Dayball was gone, right?
- 50:56[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, you talk, you referenced the Tyler Dunn article.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_00]: I'm good friends with Tyler Dunn and a lot of stuff that he put in that article makes me think about the coaching staff after Brian Dayball left.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_00]: He went, Sean McDermott went younger.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_00]: right?
- 51:14[SPEAKER_00]: He went, can Dorsey.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_00]: He went Joe Brady.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of guys that didn't have a ton of coaching or coordinator experience that he can say, and I'm again, I'm not dogging McDermott.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want this to ever come across as I'm dogging McDermott.
- 51:30[SPEAKER_00]: But he was able to tell guys, this is what I want.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_00]: And you referenced about Brian Dayball.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to run the ball.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_00]: I want to pass.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_00]: We have a unicorn at quarterback.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_00]: Why are we not throwing the ball all over the field?
- 51:45[SPEAKER_00]: Is he going to make mistakes?
- 51:46[SPEAKER_00]: Sure, because he's throwing more passes.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_00]: Is he going to make 10 on godly plays a game?
- 51:51[SPEAKER_00]: Because of who he is?
- 51:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, either with his legs or with his arm.
- 52:00[SPEAKER_00]: And then we see the emergence of James Cook, not saying James Cook's not a great running back, but I don't think that that is Joe Brady's offense.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_00]: If I'm being a hundred percent transparent, I don't think that giving James Cook is many carries as he got the last two seasons is what Joe Brady ultimately wants to do.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like there was some Sean McDermott heavy influence on
- 52:26[SPEAKER_00]: I want to control the clock.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_00]: I want to keep opposing teams off the field.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_00]: And again, that's not a bad philosophy to have.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_00]: But how good is your offense?
- 52:38[SPEAKER_00]: Perfect example.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_00]: The two games in 2024, the game against the Rams and the game against the Lions.
- 52:45[SPEAKER_00]: It was a boat race because the opposing team was scoring at will.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_00]: And
- 52:53[SPEAKER_00]: You saw the offense was very unconventional.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_00]: Those two games, Josh Allen was throwing the ball all over the place and it was highly successful.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's the stretch where it was the lions, the Rams and the 49ers, where he had, I think, 10 touchdowns in those three games combined, 10 total touchdowns.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like,
- 53:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's there.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I understand the aspect of Sean McDermott wanted to be, we're going to, we're going to, we're going to control the clock and we're going to get turnovers on defense.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_00]: That's what we want to do.
- 53:25[SPEAKER_00]: But when the turnovers and defense aren't coming, like last year, they weren't like they were in 2024, you need to have an offense that can put up points.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why when I look at our schedule and everybody's like, it's so tough, look at all these defenses that we play.
- 53:39[SPEAKER_00]: I said, Josh is gonna put up, if the bills come out and they play like the 2020,
- 53:46[SPEAKER_00]: Brian Deball led bills where Josh Allen was trusting his receivers and his tight ends and they were throwing the ball all over the place And I think he threw for 4,500 yards.
- 53:56[SPEAKER_00]: He only had like maybe 10 interceptions that year like that Josh is capable of doing that and if you're gonna have to score 35 a week That's what Josh is gonna give you because it's a new defense.
- 54:10[SPEAKER_00]: We have no idea that bumps and bruises along the way of
- 54:15[SPEAKER_00]: stuff's not working yet, they're still trying to figure it out, the right rotations on the defensive line, the secondary trying to figure that stuff out.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_00]: So again, this, this isn't what the intended topic was, but I think that we're going to see a lot of difference.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_00]: And yes, obviously, we talked about the defense yesterday and how that's going to look different, but I feel like
- 54:39[SPEAKER_00]: giving Josh the guy that he can trust in DJ Moore is not just good for DJ Moore and Josh Allen, it's good for the rest of the offense because everybody else is going to be able to like you said yesterday, let DJ more and and
- 54:53[SPEAKER_00]: Kudos to Brandon being yesterday, he said that DJ Moore is willing to run that go route to clear everything out underneath and if he has zero receptions for zero yards and the team wins he's the first one cheerleading if he has 10 receptions for 200 yards and they lose he's the first one that's going to bitch about it.
- 55:13[SPEAKER_00]: So that's that's what I like.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so I took us off the deep end there.
- 55:19[SPEAKER_00]: No, that's why I like to have these conversations because, again, our show has no time limited.
- 55:24[SPEAKER_00]: I want to, all these dialogues that I want to have between the two of us, like, they're going to go down rabbit holes, and that's great.
- 55:32[SPEAKER_00]: That's like, you know, if you were sitting right next to me at the coffee shop right now, that's what we're talking about, like, in it goes unstructured, it goes down a deep end, and Dave goes on a fricking rant for 10 minutes.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_00]: All right, he did talk about the trade with Cedric VanPran Granger.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_00]: He said that there was quite a few calls.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_00]: He said the most aggressive order, if you can, or the most aggressive offer, if you can call it aggressive was the offer from the cults.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_00]: And basically, he said, you know, last year, he came into camp with an injury.
- 56:04[SPEAKER_00]: So we kind of put in behind the eight ball through training camp.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_00]: And then they signed, he said, look, guys like Lloyd Kushner, Barry, aren't available.
- 56:15[SPEAKER_00]: He became available after they released him and it's a guy that has starts in the NFL at center.
- 56:22[SPEAKER_00]: So he's a guy they can trust plus Austin Corbett.
- 56:25[SPEAKER_00]: He said can also play guard in center.
- 56:29[SPEAKER_00]: If they need some, you know, there's an emergency situation.
- 56:31[SPEAKER_00]: So it was just a numbers thing.
- 56:34[SPEAKER_00]: So anything you want to add about the trade there.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Brandon Bean, you can mark it on the calendar when it's the end of August.
- 56:41[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to trade an offensive lineman for a late
- 56:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_01]: Very minimal thoughts here.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_01]: If you're going to caught them and you've got a trusted decision, right?
- 56:54[SPEAKER_01]: Trade and for what you can get, right?
- 56:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, it's like the tucked trade for the sabers, right?
- 56:59[SPEAKER_01]: You get the extra years.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_01]: You do someone to sell it.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_01]: You get this bag of pucks pick.
- 57:04[SPEAKER_01]: But now, like I'm fine with it.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_01]: If we got issues with
- 57:13[SPEAKER_01]: You know, really, they're close to the same player.
- 57:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, cushionberry started a ton of games in the NFL.
- 57:20[SPEAKER_00]: So that's, I mean, if you're, if you put one in one hand, an NFL starter, who's played a ton of games or a guy that you're still trying to figure out if your development is going to work out or not.
- 57:32[SPEAKER_00]: And it stinks and I could feel a little bit for brain and being because it was a draft pick that they were trying to develop the offensive
- 57:42[SPEAKER_00]: vanprang Ranger had an injury last year saw this thing just didn't work out.
- 57:46[SPEAKER_00]: So it is what it is.
- 57:48[SPEAKER_00]: He did say that Zane Durant, his neck injury was a little bit more serious than the initially thought so that's why he started out the season on IR.
- 57:57[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully it's a short-stint and they can get him back mid-season so that way he can You know develop and get some snaps because I like I like the skillset.
- 58:07[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like he's a guy He's like a small ball of energy and you know watching him in preseason Yes, again preseason take it with a grain of salt, but He seems like he's kind of unblockable like for a guy that his his size you would feel like
- 58:25[SPEAKER_00]: a 300 pound lineman would just be able to knock him over, but his hand work is great, his foot work is good, his low center of gravity is really good.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm interested to see what what he looks like if he can get some reps. Any comments on Durant?
- 58:41[SPEAKER_01]: Not, we don't know the injury.
- 58:42[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully you, they thought it was a stinger and it's a sprain or something like that.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's not been disc oriented.
- 58:47[SPEAKER_01]: So, to rest up good healthy.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I think too that they're deep there at the defensive tackle position, so I feel like giving him some rest and time to recover and develop is good.
- 58:58[SPEAKER_00]: He did talk about Duane Carter, which we talked about a little bit yesterday.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_00]: And he talked about, he didn't think that Duane Carter going into the second preseason game,
- 59:10[SPEAKER_00]: was pushing hard enough to make a roster spot.
- 59:13[SPEAKER_00]: He played in week two, he said he played better in week two than week one than in week three, ultimately.
- 59:18[SPEAKER_00]: And I even said he's playing in the final series of the third preseason game, which is not a good sign.
- 59:23[SPEAKER_00]: But he said to his credit, gaining the weight, coming back from the ACL injury, he's fighting, hit the attitudes right, the work ethic is right.
- 59:35[SPEAKER_00]: So any thoughts on Duane Carter?
- 59:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I know, yes, you said your surprise made the team.
- 59:42[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, really, all right.
- 59:43[SPEAKER_01]: So I thought he did enough.
- 59:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think the potential is there for him.
- 59:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad he made it.
- 59:50[SPEAKER_01]: If you're that close to making it for him, I think you're on a very short leash though.
- 59:54[SPEAKER_01]: So if he's not continually getting making improvements throughout the course of the year, technique, skills at whatever he's doing,
- 1:00:04[SPEAKER_01]: I see no delay in the team just being like, okay, you know, touch a loose or again, you can maybe trade them for a bag of pox at the end.
- 1:00:12[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm glad to me the team to show what he could potentially do.
- 1:00:16[SPEAKER_01]: And hopefully we get the fruition of it.
- 1:00:17[SPEAKER_01]: And he's just one of these guys that needed a little kick in the ass.
- 1:00:20[SPEAKER_01]: And I can wake back up.
- 1:00:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and we're going to find out week one, right?
- 1:00:24[SPEAKER_00]: Is he a game day in active or is Lenden Jackson getting more snaps than him?
- 1:00:29[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, we'll find out two weeks of practice.
- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_00]: So hopefully they can continue to push these guys.
- 1:00:36[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously Lenden Jackson, new position this year, defensive tackle.
- 1:00:39[SPEAKER_00]: He's looked pretty good from all accounts.
- 1:00:42[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see.
- 1:00:44[SPEAKER_00]: He did talk about Caleb's E-Larm's or he was asked about
- 1:00:48[SPEAKER_00]: He was specifically asked about his thoughts on how he was progressing as a rookie.
- 1:00:55[SPEAKER_00]: And I feel like it's kind of the same thing that we talked about yesterday about Dorian Williams.
- 1:01:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I think he just needs to slow the mental process down a little bit like he's trying to do way too much too fast in the game just kind of needs to slow down.
- 1:01:13[SPEAKER_00]: So Brendan Bean said,
- 1:01:15[SPEAKER_00]: that he's very aggressive and he likes that, but he does need to slow down a little bit.
- 1:01:21[SPEAKER_00]: And he's very excited about the prospects of having not a battle but he's got two guys in Dorian Williams and Caleb E-Larm's ore that very similar, very aggressive, very athletically gifted guys.
- 1:01:36[SPEAKER_00]: So what's your thoughts on Caleb E-Larm's ore and if anything that Brandon Bean said here was groundbreaking about his rookie linebacker.
- 1:01:45[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing groundbreaking, it always concerns me, not saying that he's a bad player.
- 1:01:48[SPEAKER_01]: It always concerns me when coaches or general managers or someone says, like, the catch is wants to do XYZ.
- 1:01:54[SPEAKER_01]: They just want to play hockey.
- 1:01:55[SPEAKER_01]: They just want to play football.
- 1:01:57[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I don't know why you telling me that versus what the guy can do, right?
- 1:02:01[SPEAKER_01]: So he did a lab range and just say, hey, you know, you can't be overly aggressive here.
- 1:02:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's something that he's just working through.
- 1:02:08[SPEAKER_01]: This goes to our conversation earlier about
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_01]: Signing Shack Thompson and looking at other veteran people on that defensive front to be able to coach them and say, okay, when this is happening, like you can have a conversation like you're jumping.
- 1:02:25[SPEAKER_01]: The gap here, like you got to play this out a little bit before you commit to that.
- 1:02:29[SPEAKER_01]: So, uh, or read the play, look at what's going on.
- 1:02:32[SPEAKER_01]: So I think, you know, Shack Thompson theoretically should help there.
- 1:02:34[SPEAKER_01]: Just be able to coach him up a little bit.
- 1:02:36[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, my guess is it's hard.
- 1:02:38[SPEAKER_01]: If you're trying to make a team and you've, you see, hey, I've got this lane here.
- 1:02:42[SPEAKER_01]: And I get a chance to actually be a starter.
- 1:02:45[SPEAKER_01]: My guess is you're going to go pedal to the metal and you're going to do that.
- 1:02:49[SPEAKER_01]: And sometimes that just comes with.
- 1:02:51[SPEAKER_01]: you missed this technique or you just want to fly because you want to prove like hit a guy hard, you want to get in there and make the play.
- 1:02:57[SPEAKER_01]: And that can sometimes come back to bite you.
- 1:02:59[SPEAKER_01]: So my guess is the game will slow down for them over time.
- 1:03:03[SPEAKER_01]: But I think having that veteran presence on the team will help a little bit.
- 1:03:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think too.
- 1:03:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think another guy that we talked about Dorian Williams, I think another guy that can benefit from a coaching change,
- 1:03:14[SPEAKER_00]: Because we talked yesterday about how much was involved with being a linebacker and how much of a premium that the bills put on that position because of so much that you're asked to do and we used to give, you know,
- 1:03:30[SPEAKER_00]: Tremaine Edmonds, we used to give a bunch of crap to back in the day because he wasn't making all of the splash plays, but if you go back and watch everything that he has to do before the snap during the snap guiding guys all over the place, like there was a lot ass of Tremaine Edmonds and his final year and his contract year, I think we finally saw him play a little bit more free.
- 1:03:53[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm hoping that like the freedom that
- 1:03:57[SPEAKER_00]: Jim Leonard is going to bring with the defense for these guys to just not be super overly aggressive, but just go out there and play the position that you were taught how to play.
- 1:04:07[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like that's.
- 1:04:10[SPEAKER_00]: where Jim Leonard and his defense is going to be successful.
- 1:04:12[SPEAKER_00]: These guys, especially in the second level in the third level, these guys are going to be able to go and just be free.
- 1:04:18[SPEAKER_00]: And not have to worry about all this other stuff that they have to do.
- 1:04:22[SPEAKER_00]: And not saying that was the bad thing on your McDermott.
- 1:04:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just saying, like, I feel like some of these guys are going to actually, it's going to catapult them into the next, like, what have we been waiting for with Dorian Williams?
- 1:04:34[SPEAKER_00]: Because you can see the aggressive style is there in the athleticism is off the charts.
- 1:04:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think the mental aspect of overthinking everything and misreading plays and misreading this and that.
- 1:04:45[SPEAKER_00]: I think this is gonna help with guys like that.
- 1:04:47[SPEAKER_00]: And I feel like Caleb Ealarm's or is gonna be a star in this league.
- 1:04:51[SPEAKER_00]: You can see the physical traits just need to be matched up with a little bit of coaching, right?
- 1:04:57[SPEAKER_00]: Some of the stuff that the bills wanna do scheme wise.
- 1:04:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I feel like it's gonna be nice to see once he gets everything put together.
- 1:05:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, he's a young guy at a top position to play.
- 1:05:10[SPEAKER_01]: So it's like this should not really be unexpected.
- 1:05:14[SPEAKER_01]: We can't look at this guy and be like, oh, he's not a starter day one.
- 1:05:17[SPEAKER_01]: What's wrong with them, right?
- 1:05:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's just not the way it works in that, especially at a linebacker position.
- 1:05:21[SPEAKER_00]: And like you said, too, nothing, but positives can come from having Shack Thompson in that room for Caleb Williams or like watch how this guy studies film watch what he does on the practice field before and after watch how he carries himself.
- 1:05:37[SPEAKER_00]: on game day.
- 1:05:38[SPEAKER_00]: Like all that stuff is going to be, it's going to be awesome to see.
- 1:05:41[SPEAKER_00]: Um, being did say he felt good about his line backing room.
- 1:05:45[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I think there was some concern with only keeping four, but he kind of said why they kept four.
- 1:05:51[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and then obviously the addition of Shack Thompson.
- 1:05:53[SPEAKER_00]: So, um, he did say they didn't make any waiver claims.
- 1:05:57[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I know that a lot of people were asking.
- 1:06:00[SPEAKER_00]: about that yesterday, which I mean, they lost torrent torrent applied because the Browns probably had a six or seven thrown draft grade on him and probably maybe would have drafted him.
- 1:06:14[SPEAKER_00]: So that's when you lose guys like that.
- 1:06:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's because other teams during the draft process thought that that would have been a guy they would have drafted.
- 1:06:22[SPEAKER_00]: So that's when you see a guy release like that.
- 1:06:25[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, he said that he didn't have any, he didn't put in any claims.
- 1:06:30[SPEAKER_00]: They just kept it moving after that.
- 1:06:33[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about DJ Moore a little bit.
- 1:06:35[SPEAKER_00]: He touched on the skillset.
- 1:06:38[SPEAKER_00]: And we all know that Brandon Bean has talked extensively about the 2018 draft in that they were scouting DJ Moore for the 2018 draft.
- 1:06:48[SPEAKER_00]: And it was a guy that they were heavy on, they really liked the skill set, they liked his abilities.
- 1:06:54[SPEAKER_00]: And he said he's been everything that they've expected him to be as far as off the field leader on the field leader.
- 1:07:01[SPEAKER_00]: And then obviously the production and trust with him and Josh and the relationship there's been has been building.
- 1:07:06[SPEAKER_00]: And we talked about it yesterday too.
- 1:07:08[SPEAKER_00]: I said, I feel like Josh is to the point in his life where the players obviously Josh loves.
- 1:07:16[SPEAKER_00]: throwing to veteran receivers.
- 1:07:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like, look what happened when digs got here, right?
- 1:07:20[SPEAKER_00]: Look what happened when beastly got here.
- 1:07:21[SPEAKER_00]: Look what happened when John Brown got here.
- 1:07:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like, he trusted those guys immediately.
- 1:07:25[SPEAKER_00]: Key on comes here.
- 1:07:27[SPEAKER_00]: And he's 21, immature.
- 1:07:30[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how much they have in common.
- 1:07:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like I said, we talked about it a little bit yesterday.
- 1:07:35[SPEAKER_00]: Like DJ Moore is married with kids.
- 1:07:37[SPEAKER_00]: He's the same age as Josh.
- 1:07:38[SPEAKER_00]: They were in the same draft class.
- 1:07:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like they have a lot in common.
- 1:07:42[SPEAKER_00]: So I feel like that relationship off the field is huge.
- 1:07:47[SPEAKER_00]: If those guys are bonding off the field, because then you grow that trust factor on the field.
- 1:07:53[SPEAKER_00]: And Josh from day one,
- 1:07:55[SPEAKER_00]: was it felt like they knew where each other wanted each other to be, like they knew Josh knew where to put the ball.
- 1:08:01[SPEAKER_00]: Josh knew where DJ was going to be.
- 1:08:03[SPEAKER_00]: DJ knew when the ball was coming, where it was going to.
- 1:08:06[SPEAKER_00]: So what's your thoughts on that on his comments about about DJ more?
- 1:08:11[SPEAKER_00]: Because I'm excited for DJ more.
- 1:08:13[SPEAKER_00]: I really think it's going to be nice to have that guy on the roster that if you need a first down, you're going to get it.
- 1:08:19[SPEAKER_00]: If you need a
- 1:08:21[SPEAKER_00]: You know, a trustworthy actual number one receiver.
- 1:08:24[SPEAKER_00]: What's your what's your what's your take?
- 1:08:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'd mention yesterday I love the acquisition because they acquired someone in a position I thought they's badly needed.
- 1:08:36[SPEAKER_01]: Like being right, I watched him in Chicago.
- 1:08:38[SPEAKER_01]: He was really good in Chicago.
- 1:08:41[SPEAKER_01]: He comes over.
- 1:08:42[SPEAKER_01]: You see him in limited action, preseason and everything you see clips and in practice.
- 1:08:46[SPEAKER_01]: The guy just holds balls and he runs Chris Brouts, just a constant professional.
- 1:08:52[SPEAKER_01]: He is older like you mentioned, right, older from like, you know, maturity level standpoint, wife kids, so he's not going out theoretically heard that we know of like club and
- 1:09:03[SPEAKER_01]: come over, hang, hung over the practice, right?
- 1:09:05[SPEAKER_01]: So there's that inherent trust built up, like you mentioned, I love it, right?
- 1:09:10[SPEAKER_01]: And hopefully he can transnis in that knowledge down to, you know, Kiyan, who, I think you like a little bit more than I do, not really, but, okay.
- 1:09:24[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I look at that and I'm like, this is great and you know, I look at it more so like you don't again going back to yesterday, you don't need 1200 yards of my guy right if he's opening up space for these other guys exactly I care about that I care can we make the offense more efficient than it has been because
- 1:09:43[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, Josh has thrown for yards.
- 1:09:46[SPEAKER_01]: We are scoring touchdowns.
- 1:09:48[SPEAKER_01]: We are constantly the first couple teams if not the highest scoring team in the NFL year after year.
- 1:09:54[SPEAKER_01]: And I watch these games and I'm like, it looks like they are walking through mud trying to score touchdowns that I'm shocked when we have, you know, so many points at the end of the year.
- 1:10:03[SPEAKER_01]: So if we can improve this, I am good, I'm happy, I like it.
- 1:10:09[SPEAKER_01]: And there's nothing I've seen so far that,
- 1:10:13[SPEAKER_01]: wants me to go elsewhere, like I just catch his stuff.
- 1:10:16[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Josh appreciates that.
- 1:10:17[SPEAKER_01]: And he's going to, you know, he's going to feed him.
- 1:10:21[SPEAKER_00]: I just, I don't want everything like you said.
- 1:10:24[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want everything to look so hard.
- 1:10:27[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 1:10:27[SPEAKER_00]: Like that, I always will reference the 2020, even even the 21 season when the bills, you know, had a manual Sanders.
- 1:10:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like I,
- 1:10:39[SPEAKER_00]: I just I don't want everything to be so hard for Josh Allen all the time and I might sound like I'm Debbie Downer and I'm complaining because the bills like you said they score a ton of points because there's games when the superhuman effect happens like the the Bengals game last year when Josh just won superhuman or the Patriots game when they were down 21 nothing in 24 seven and a half time like I don't want
- 1:11:03[SPEAKER_00]: to have to make things so hard.
- 1:11:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I feel like having a true number one, like I said earlier, opens up a lot of stuff for everybody else.
- 1:11:11[SPEAKER_00]: Having a healthy Dalton can cade, obviously, opens up stuff for everybody else.
- 1:11:15[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't want to go too far down.
- 1:11:16[SPEAKER_00]: This is a good question from Charles.
- 1:11:19[SPEAKER_00]: He says, do you think Skylar Bell could be a hidden secret weapon for the offense?
- 1:11:23[SPEAKER_00]: Do you want to take that one?
- 1:11:24[SPEAKER_00]: What's your thoughts?
- 1:11:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to give you the hedging bet and say potentially, I don't see it happening the first half of the season, though.
- 1:11:32[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to kind of one acclimate to the offense and if I'll game speed, all that stuff.
- 1:11:38[SPEAKER_01]: But also, I think Joe Brady and the rest of the staff kind of is going to feel out what his role is going to be in all that.
- 1:11:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think that just takes time, right?
- 1:11:47[SPEAKER_01]: That's not an, I don't think it even if he was
- 1:11:50[SPEAKER_01]: 100% balls of the wall, Skylar Bell this guy is awesome, the next Hall of Famer.
- 1:11:55[SPEAKER_01]: I still think it would take, you don't have a season that kind of figure out what lane he's going to go in.
- 1:12:01[SPEAKER_01]: I like his skill set a lot.
- 1:12:02[SPEAKER_01]: I think he seeing him do routes and practice from film and stuff like that.
- 1:12:08[SPEAKER_01]: Even the game, I know he's playing against third stringers that last week, you know, a preseason, so you take it with the greatest sol.
- 1:12:14[SPEAKER_01]: But I watch him run routes
- 1:12:17[SPEAKER_01]: All right, I like this guy here, right, so I think there's definitely something there.
- 1:12:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think if Joe Brady proves me wrong.
- 1:12:26[SPEAKER_01]: He can look at this today.
- 1:12:27[SPEAKER_01]: I can use this guy here here in here on these concepts and maximize the his potential value, which is what good leaders do right.
- 1:12:36[SPEAKER_01]: They find how do we make this guy the best he can be in this system.
- 1:12:40[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it could be, but I wouldn't expect to the first half of a year.
- 1:12:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's definitely, you know, a second half, you know, type of progression there.
- 1:12:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:12:50[SPEAKER_00]: Good question, Charles.
- 1:12:51[SPEAKER_00]: I, I love Skylar Bell.
- 1:12:53[SPEAKER_00]: He was in, he was in just about every mock draft I did.
- 1:12:56[SPEAKER_00]: Him and Caleb Ealarm's or were in just about every mock draft I did back at the end of winter when we were all doing mock drafts.
- 1:13:05[SPEAKER_00]: I too, like you, I feel, I feel the same.
- 1:13:08[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like they are going to bring him along probably not at the pace that all of us want because he's a wide receiver and we've all been clamoring for them to draft.
- 1:13:19[SPEAKER_00]: a guy that's not key on Coleman wide receiver to play in this offense and the skill set is there and he can do a lot of the stuff that key on Coleman can't do.
- 1:13:28[SPEAKER_00]: He can run a lot of routes, obviously we saw the end-around ability, so there's going to be some Swiss Army knife type stuff in there.
- 1:13:35[SPEAKER_00]: So it's going to be interesting, I don't want them to force it, but I do want them to use him because I feel like he has exceptional hands and I feel like he can be a weapon for this offense down the road kind of similar to what Greg said.
- 1:13:49[SPEAKER_00]: Joe Brady touched on the Texans as we all know that defensive line is vontine and he mentioned not too much or I'm sorry, not Joe Brady.
- 1:13:57[SPEAKER_00]: Brandon Bean said that it's going to be a tough task and I think we can agree on that from a defensive standpoint from the Texans.
- 1:14:05[SPEAKER_00]: Not sure what we're going to get off.
- 1:14:18[SPEAKER_00]: The bills have a new offensive system.
- 1:14:20[SPEAKER_00]: I would think, obviously have a new defensive system.
- 1:14:22[SPEAKER_00]: So the Texans, they may be at a disadvantage.
- 1:14:26[SPEAKER_00]: Joe Brady might pull a whole bunch of stuff out of his bag and completely confuse that defense.
- 1:14:33[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see what happens there.
- 1:14:35[SPEAKER_00]: So, all right, let's talk about guys returning to practice.
- 1:14:41[SPEAKER_00]: So, at Oliver, and we don't need to go into it.
- 1:14:48[SPEAKER_00]: unfortunately and how that all came to light.
- 1:14:52[SPEAKER_00]: He was back at practice yesterday.
- 1:14:54[SPEAKER_00]: So that's good because this team is going to need that Oliver in a healthy at Oliver.
- 1:15:01[SPEAKER_00]: Now he did have an injury that I don't think unless I'm
- 1:15:05[SPEAKER_00]: just not looking in the right places like I haven't seen what his injury was it was not disclosed anywhere.
- 1:15:11[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I don't know if it was an upper body, lower body.
- 1:15:15[SPEAKER_00]: So I haven't seen it disclosed anywhere, but he was back at practice.
- 1:15:19[SPEAKER_00]: Um, Terrell Bernard was back at practice.
- 1:15:22[SPEAKER_00]: Um, which Brandon Bean made a point earlier in the press conference to talk about Terrell Bernard coming back.
- 1:15:29[SPEAKER_00]: CJ Gardner Johnson practiced Connor McGovern practice, which is good.
- 1:15:33[SPEAKER_00]: Now I don't
- 1:15:35[SPEAKER_00]: know to what extent all these guys practice if they were just doing individual drills, if they were doing seven on sevens, if they were doing, you know, any other kind of reps. And I did see Kian Coleman catching passes.
- 1:15:48[SPEAKER_00]: And I will say, and not to talk about Kian again, but.
- 1:15:53[SPEAKER_00]: He looked pretty good for a guy that everybody wants to talk about his lazy route running and also a guy who was in a walking boot not too long ago.
- 1:16:02[SPEAKER_00]: He looked pretty good.
- 1:16:03[SPEAKER_00]: So the walking boot could have just been a precautionary thing.
- 1:16:07[SPEAKER_00]: He looks like his route running has improved.
- 1:16:10[SPEAKER_00]: It looks like his cuts are a little more defined.
- 1:16:12[SPEAKER_00]: He looks a little bit quicker.
- 1:16:15[SPEAKER_00]: What's your thoughts on these guys returning anything?
- 1:16:18[SPEAKER_00]: hear that super over-the-top excited about anything that's concerning.
- 1:16:23[SPEAKER_00]: McGovern, I know, was a big topic for you yesterday.
- 1:16:27[SPEAKER_00]: So what's your thoughts on these guys coming back to practice because we're going to need them here in less than what 10, 11 days now?
- 1:16:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:35[SPEAKER_01]: So I mean, they're a team.
- 1:16:36[SPEAKER_01]: They know what they're doing, right?
- 1:16:37[SPEAKER_01]: There's poor science, guys, and entrepreneurs.
- 1:16:40[SPEAKER_01]: So I trust that they can put them in their right position.
- 1:16:42[SPEAKER_01]: McGovern's probably the biggest one for me.
- 1:16:44[SPEAKER_01]: Looking at it, can we get him healthy?
- 1:16:48[SPEAKER_01]: Tough, tough of that position too, because you're working that thing a lot.
- 1:16:52[SPEAKER_01]: So it's good to see key on back.
- 1:16:56[SPEAKER_01]: I can't believe I just said that, but I want my full arsenal, right?
- 1:17:02[SPEAKER_01]: I want to see what I have, week one with offense, with everyone healthy to see, hey, has this guy made an improvement from last year, SDG more helped him run routes better, whatever it might be, is coaching changed.
- 1:17:15[SPEAKER_01]: And Oliver, you know, I'm glad he's back.
- 1:17:18[SPEAKER_01]: I just, I hope the best for him.
- 1:17:20[SPEAKER_01]: I wish the best for the guy, just a terrible thing to go through.
- 1:17:23[SPEAKER_01]: So hopefully he can get acclimated and just kind of adjust to, you know, his new normal, whatever that looks like.
- 1:17:31[SPEAKER_01]: So hopefully the camaraderie will help that a little bit and kind of ease him back in.
- 1:17:35[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, that's not something that's just going to go away.
- 1:17:38[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, he'll hand hamstring injury.
- 1:17:41[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 1:17:42[SPEAKER_01]: And speaking of Hamlet, not just joking, so Shane was called out, right?
- 1:17:47[SPEAKER_01]: Check out the injury report on built-in Buffalo's website, I mean, that bar as well.
- 1:17:52[SPEAKER_01]: So, as the season gets going, there we go, but yes, but yeah, nothing really jumps out that is a red flag for me.
- 1:17:58[SPEAKER_01]: I just hope there's no setbacks along the way, and we get everyone healthy and kind of throw out the week one with fire and abilities.
- 1:18:06[SPEAKER_00]: built in buffalo news.com.
- 1:18:08[SPEAKER_00]: The link is in the description of this video and Greg does a lot of stuff on there.
- 1:18:13[SPEAKER_00]: And yes, there is an injury report not just for the bills, but for how many teams Greg?
- 1:18:17[SPEAKER_01]: Every team.
- 1:18:18[SPEAKER_00]: Every team.
- 1:18:20[SPEAKER_00]: This guy puts in work, man.
- 1:18:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be funny when the Texans double team DJ Moore.
- 1:18:27[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you on his key on his key on has seven receptions for 95 yards and two touchdowns.
- 1:18:33[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just saying like that's what happened against the Ravens, but again, the Ravens secondary wasn't that good, but we'll see.
- 1:18:39[SPEAKER_00]: All right, let's talk about last topic, let's talk about Josh Allen and the top 100 because I open Twitter this morning and I shouldn't have because.
- 1:18:53[SPEAKER_00]: Bijon, was it Bijon Robinson or was it Jamir Gibbs?
- 1:18:57[SPEAKER_00]: Who was number three?
- 1:19:01[SPEAKER_00]: Bijon was number three, right?
- 1:19:03[SPEAKER_00]: So I opened that up and that was the first thing that popped up was the post from the NFL account said that, you know, how they're doing it, Bijon Robinson, number three, then they have the little video.
- 1:19:14[SPEAKER_00]: And then I scroll and then I scroll and all I see is,
- 1:19:18[SPEAKER_00]: people complaining that Josh Allen is in the top two.
- 1:19:22[SPEAKER_00]: And then I see Bill's mafia posting out Josh Allen's in the top two, retweeting that video and then all the Ravens fans, and all the chiefs fans, and the Bengals fans, and the Eagles fans talking about, why are you making this about Josh Allen?
- 1:19:38[SPEAKER_00]: This is a B-Jun Robinson post and oh god, it's the, what do they call it?
- 1:19:44[SPEAKER_00]: The, the make a wish.
- 1:19:46[SPEAKER_00]: Award or that he has the best P like the best PA in the NFL and all this are best PR in the NFL and all this stuff.
- 1:19:54[SPEAKER_00]: So Josh Dealing was voted the number one quarterback by the players.
- 1:20:01[SPEAKER_00]: The executives, the scouts.
- 1:20:04[SPEAKER_00]: and by the coaches.
- 1:20:06[SPEAKER_00]: So I ask you, does this do anything for you?
- 1:20:10[SPEAKER_00]: How does this make you feel?
- 1:20:11[SPEAKER_00]: How do you, we hear probably all feel that Josh Allen's the best quarterback in the NFL anyways, but now to see it actually
- 1:20:20[SPEAKER_00]: like be publicized by all these outlets, like from where Josh came to where he is now.
- 1:20:28[SPEAKER_00]: Is it too much pressure?
- 1:20:29[SPEAKER_00]: Is it well deserved?
- 1:20:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like, what's your thoughts?
- 1:20:32[SPEAKER_00]: You go as long as you want on this.
- 1:20:34[SPEAKER_00]: Take us down, take us down a rabbit hole.
- 1:20:37[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he's feeling any extra pressure from it.
- 1:20:39[SPEAKER_01]: I think he knows, like, I think the pressure is built in for how the hell do I win a Super Bowl, right?
- 1:20:45[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's something that just drives him.
- 1:20:47[SPEAKER_01]: He says he wants it, thinks about it a lot.
- 1:20:51[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't think the pressure side of things is relevant to Josh.
- 1:20:56[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know the guy, so I could be wrong, but I think he's content with who he is, and he knows what he wants.
- 1:21:03[SPEAKER_01]: I always found the argument between fan bases, silly, because especially that Lamar, you know, Alan and B.P.
- 1:21:11[SPEAKER_01]: season two seasons ago, those arguments are like, you know what?
- 1:21:16[SPEAKER_01]: Lamar is a great quarterback.
- 1:21:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to say he's not, right?
- 1:21:21[SPEAKER_01]: So Joe Burrow, I think is a great quarterback.
- 1:21:23[SPEAKER_01]: I like, I don't need to argue who's better.
- 1:21:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think for myself, I look at this.
- 1:21:28[SPEAKER_01]: I mentioned earlier, Buffalo is in any city would be fortunate to have someone like him as the face of the city now.
- 1:21:36[SPEAKER_01]: He represents the organization.
- 1:21:37[SPEAKER_01]: Well, he's just a good dude, right?
- 1:21:40[SPEAKER_01]: You've seen good guys kind of go sideways before.
- 1:21:42[SPEAKER_01]: I don't get the sense that this is the guy that's going to do it.
- 1:21:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:21:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think from a fan stand point like we went through 17 years of just crap at court and back just garbage right love fits Patrick he's probably the like we got blood so kind of in the washed up era i'd like to bless you just as a person but apparently he's got a winery now too so haven't had it but
- 1:22:10[SPEAKER_01]: You know, so much crap from quarterback play through the 17 years and it is like a zaro world now.
- 1:22:20[SPEAKER_01]: We're like, oh my god, can you believe we have that and now we have this?
- 1:22:24[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what I look at.
- 1:22:26[SPEAKER_01]: I am so thankful to one be able to revert team that has a superstar like that to you can revert superstar like that that you don't have to ignore their personality and their off-field choices.
- 1:22:38[SPEAKER_01]: or you have to overlook those things.
- 1:22:40[SPEAKER_01]: The root form and I could not be happier and at some point this whole thing will end and you will retire or whatever that situation is, you know, go to a different team for his last year or two.
- 1:22:51[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what that looks like, but I know it's not, it probably will never be this good again.
- 1:22:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's just weird to me because we were in quarterback purgatory for so long and that's known knock on Tyra Taylor and Ryan Fitzpatrick and a bunch of the other guys, it's just I, so the bull's eye is now on his back, right?
- 1:23:18[SPEAKER_00]: He's become the Patrick Mahomes of the NFL, right?
- 1:23:22[SPEAKER_00]: He's the face of the NFL.
- 1:23:24[SPEAKER_00]: If that's not a homework take, that's reality.
- 1:23:26[SPEAKER_00]: Josh Allen is the face of the NFL.
- 1:23:29[SPEAKER_00]: No matter what you see on television, no matter what commercial, no matter what channel you're watching a game on, Josh Allen's featured in it somewhere.
- 1:23:39[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just, first off, it's nice, right?
- 1:23:43[SPEAKER_00]: Because it's nice to know that,
- 1:23:46[SPEAKER_00]: The guy that was counted out and was made fun of and was talked down upon and was told that he wasn't going to be a franchise guy.
- 1:23:56[SPEAKER_00]: We know all the stories, right, from back in 2018, even into 2019, and then the ones that still didn't believe after 2020, it feels rewarding to me because of how hard as a fan base we fought for this guy.
- 1:24:12[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean, like how hard we put our fingers out and we said, we told you so this guy special we told you we told you even the ones like me on draft day that we're not overly excited about picking him in 2018, but admitted we were wrong and now have fought tooth and nail.
- 1:24:32[SPEAKER_00]: with all these other fan bases.
- 1:24:34[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not, when I go at these fan bases on Twitter, it's not because I'm trying to put down their quarterback, it's because I'm trying to lift up mine.
- 1:24:44[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the biggest thing I hate is that we have to dog another quarterback to lift up our guy.
- 1:24:50[SPEAKER_00]: Can we just admit that they are all like Patrick Mahomes, say what you want, I don't enjoy the fact that he has three Super Bowls, but I could admit how good of a player he is.
- 1:25:03[SPEAKER_00]: Lamar Jackson, I could admit how good of a football player he is.
- 1:25:07[SPEAKER_00]: Joe Burrow is ridiculously talented.
- 1:25:11[SPEAKER_00]: So that's my only gripe with the whole thing is why do we have to attack a guy because he's not our team's quarterback?
- 1:25:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like I see all the people talking about Josh Allen has the best PR in the NFL.
- 1:25:24[SPEAKER_00]: No, he's if you go back and you look at what he means to the team,
- 1:25:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's hard to argue that there's another quarterback that means that much to their team.
- 1:25:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, there's franchise quarterbacks that if they don't play the team is terrible, I get it.
- 1:25:39[SPEAKER_00]: But how much has been asked of him with not a lot of supporting help over the past couple years?
- 1:25:47[SPEAKER_00]: And the guy won an MVP doing it because he carried a receiving room of just a bunch of threes on other teams and collueless you hear.
- 1:25:57[SPEAKER_00]: And he won an MVP.
- 1:25:59[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know.
- 1:26:00[SPEAKER_00]: I saw a question from a good, I guess.
- 1:26:03[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I was going to say anyone that wants to make these arguments, like, oh, the guy is not a playoff quarterback, which is just ridiculous, right?
- 1:26:10[SPEAKER_01]: I always tell people, it's like, go watch the 13 second game.
- 1:26:13[SPEAKER_01]: Just watch the damn game, right?
- 1:26:15[SPEAKER_01]: It's not Josh Allen letting them down there.
- 1:26:18[SPEAKER_01]: We all know this.
- 1:26:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's every year.
- 1:26:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's defense.
- 1:26:21[SPEAKER_01]: Last year, it's maybe the one exception where I'd say, hey, you had the ball at the chance to win, right?
- 1:26:28[SPEAKER_01]: had two possessions with a chance to win and he didn't get it done.
- 1:26:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'll tell you they don't have good receivers last year and what a dime to cook in that game but like probably his worst game maybe outside of his very first playoff game against Houston but like watch his playoff games.
- 1:26:45[SPEAKER_01]: This guy is unreal and you're right you don't have to put the other person down but I think people that want to come back at you and like do these nipiki arguments.
- 1:26:54[SPEAKER_01]: There's just an agenda there, they just they don't want to see things from a just a general perspective level.
- 1:27:02[SPEAKER_01]: I always say like I'm a bills fan, I'm die hard.
- 1:27:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'll tell you when they suck.
- 1:27:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'll tell you when the riffs are bad.
- 1:27:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'll tell you when the riffs are fine and everyone else is blaming the riffs.
- 1:27:09[SPEAKER_01]: Like sometimes the other team is just better than you.
- 1:27:11[SPEAKER_01]: That's the way it is.
- 1:27:13[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and I try to be consistent like that, but I think a lot of these other fan bases when they start chiming and the stuff.
- 1:27:19[SPEAKER_01]: They just go, not my guy, you're guys thinks because he can't win.
- 1:27:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, if I see the Denver Fumble one more time when he launched the ball backwards, like it's like, it's on like repeat on Twitter, like it's crazy.
- 1:27:34[SPEAKER_00]: A fun, a fun, a fun, a fun stat that I saw this morning, there is only nine quarterbacks in the pro football Hall of Fame that have more touchdowns than Josh Allen, total touchdowns.
- 1:27:49[SPEAKER_00]: And Josh Allen's played eight, this is his ninth year.
- 1:27:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's only played eight seasons.
- 1:27:54[SPEAKER_00]: is not insane.
- 1:27:55[SPEAKER_00]: There's only nine guys that are already in the Hall of Fame that have more total touchdowns than him.
- 1:28:00[SPEAKER_00]: So, I mean, he's only played eight years and he's got more touchdowns than anybody's ever scored in nine seasons.
- 1:28:07[SPEAKER_00]: So, I saw a question about Brandon Cook's go back and look at my timeline on X.
- 1:28:13[SPEAKER_00]: I've been, I've been upon in the table for Brandon Cooks for months and months and months.
- 1:28:17[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure if the Greg Dorch signing changes that.
- 1:28:21[SPEAKER_00]: If he's still available, as we get, you know, the season going, if there's any injuries, if he's still available, absolutely, I could see the bills bringing him back.
- 1:28:30[SPEAKER_00]: Not to say they can't sign under the practice squad anytime now and release somebody else off there, just to have him in the building.
- 1:28:37[SPEAKER_00]: I love Brandon Cooks and I thought,
- 1:28:40[SPEAKER_00]: That showed me, say what you want about the last play, like Greg had mentioned that game a play against Denver, Josh Allen trusted to throw him the ball deep.
- 1:28:51[SPEAKER_00]: during the regular season too.
- 1:28:52[SPEAKER_00]: And that's something they weren't doing with anybody else.
- 1:28:54[SPEAKER_00]: So yes, we have DJ Moore and some other guys, but I like Brandon Cook's skill set.
- 1:29:00[SPEAKER_00]: He blows the top off a defense.
- 1:29:01[SPEAKER_00]: It helps the same way that DJ Moore would help.
- 1:29:04[SPEAKER_00]: And I liked the guy and I feel like his attitude was something that fit in with the bill's culture last year.
- 1:29:09[SPEAKER_00]: So I'd absolutely bring him back.
- 1:29:12[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, you know, with him, it'll be interesting to see how the NFL, like how teams start playing defense is against Buffalo.
- 1:29:20[SPEAKER_01]: And again, this is going to come down.
- 1:29:21[SPEAKER_01]: They're like, what Buffalo's looking like on offense.
- 1:29:23[SPEAKER_01]: But, right, we saw this.
- 1:29:25[SPEAKER_01]: The bills were, you know, five years ago, chucking all over the place.
- 1:29:29[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of other teams were, right?
- 1:29:30[SPEAKER_01]: And then we went to to high safety to take those big plays away.
- 1:29:35[SPEAKER_01]: Running game became more important.
- 1:29:36[SPEAKER_01]: Linebacker started getting bigger because before everyone was trying to get fast,
- 1:29:40[SPEAKER_01]: all these receivers you clamped at down we're starting to get faster and slower now.
- 1:29:46[SPEAKER_01]: All right, if you got DJ more opening up space and you start to see you've got some advantages here.
- 1:29:51[SPEAKER_01]: I could see him pulling right and someone's not pulling their weight.
- 1:29:54[SPEAKER_01]: I'm keen.
- 1:29:55[SPEAKER_01]: I could very easily see you bring cooks pairing them up with more just to stretch the field to make those other guy, you know, you'll get your deep shots, but get those underneath guys even more space and open.
- 1:30:09[SPEAKER_01]: So I think there's a lot of opportunity there if he comes in to do some stuff
- 1:30:15[SPEAKER_01]: you know, the under, uh, need throws even better for him too.
- 1:30:18[SPEAKER_01]: So, uh, I think it's gonna be really fun season, just to figure out what the heck's going on.
- 1:30:22[SPEAKER_00]: I can't wait to lose my mind when Josh throws a 60-yard bomb to DJ Mauren the week, the week one opener.
- 1:30:29[SPEAKER_00]: He just throws a 60-yard bomb to DJ Mauren.
- 1:30:31[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, yeah, see, I told you I could still do that, like, just, you know, here we go.
- 1:30:35[SPEAKER_00]: So, all right, Greg, that is our show.
- 1:30:39[SPEAKER_00]: Anything else you want to add before we get out of here, before we come back to
- 1:30:44[SPEAKER_01]: No, man, for anyone.
- 1:30:45[SPEAKER_01]: I would say anyone that missed it.
- 1:30:46[SPEAKER_01]: Let us know when you start decorating for Halloween.
- 1:30:49[SPEAKER_00]: So don't start don't start.
- 1:30:51[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to put it.
- 1:30:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to put I'm going to put some decorations up back in here.
- 1:30:56[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely will have a Christmas tree over here for the holiday festive season.
- 1:31:01[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, for Greg.
- 1:31:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Dave.
- 1:31:04[SPEAKER_00]: This is version five.
- 1:31:05[SPEAKER_00]: We will be back tomorrow at noon Eastern time.
- 1:31:08[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for everybody watching and it is always go bills.
