Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: This podcast. Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only game
- 0:12Speaker 1: show where conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer Newhart,
- 0:16Speaker 1: and today we're joined by Joannis Brody, Seth Roman, John Logan,
- 0:20Speaker 1: Max and Alex Placta. Alex, this is your first time
- 0:23Speaker 1: on the show. Tell folks what you do here at
- 0:25Speaker 1: me Theater. I work with Roman and social media. Okay,
- 0:29Speaker 1: and Brody just had a bone to pick with you
- 0:32Speaker 1: before we turned the mics on. Brody, what was the problem.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Oh well, it's like a like a nature documentary screw
- 0:40Speaker 2: up where he called a cam.
- 0:42Speaker 1: And a gator and no one else noticed this. Alex?
- 0:45Speaker 1: Is that is that right? I have once called a
- 0:49Speaker 1: goat a billy when it was not a billy one. Oh,
- 0:52Speaker 1: people called you out on that, they did, but no
- 0:54Speaker 1: one called you out on the gator. Can Alex? What's
- 1:01Speaker 1: what's gonna be your strong suit and weakness in Meat
- 1:04Speaker 1: Eater Trivia? Nothing science specific, probably history related, if there's
- 1:09Speaker 1: any historical all right, how about regional wise? What would
- 1:13Speaker 1: you ask for sure? Okay? But like do you like
- 1:15Speaker 1: the north, the South, the west, a little bit of everything? Okay?
- 1:19Speaker 1: All right, we'll see how Alex does today, if you're
- 1:21Speaker 1: mad at stuff on social media, you're gonna be mad
- 1:24Speaker 1: at Roman and Alex. Now everyone knows, all right. This
- 1:31Speaker 1: is a ten round quiz show with questions from meat
- 1:33Speaker 1: Eater's four verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking,
- 1:36Speaker 1: and there is a prize. Meat Eater will donate five
- 1:39Speaker 1: hundred dollars to the conservation organization of the winners choosing
- 1:43Speaker 1: and for the state of the week. This week, we're
- 1:44Speaker 1: looking at the number of games in a row I've
- 1:46Speaker 1: gone without forgetting to do the correct answer review. If
- 1:49Speaker 1: you don't recall, I've started penalizing myself for when I
- 1:53Speaker 1: forget to do the correct answer review. After question nine,
- 1:57Speaker 1: the fine has been that I'll join a new conservation
- 2:00Speaker 1: group whenever that happens. And since implementing that system, I've
- 2:03Speaker 1: gone five games in a row without forgetting. Sometimes I
- 2:07Speaker 1: used to go five games in a row without remembering.
- 2:09Speaker 1: So we may have solved this problem. So you're just
- 2:13Speaker 1: donating less to conservation now, No, Well, when I remember
- 2:17Speaker 1: job better. But when I'm doing my job better, that's
- 2:20Speaker 1: right and giving the listeners a better experience. But when
- 2:22Speaker 1: I mess up, then conservation still wins. Because I'll join
- 2:25Speaker 1: a new conservation group.
- 2:26Speaker 3: How many conservation groups are you part of?
- 2:28Speaker 1: That was my sixth?
- 2:30Speaker 3: Or just like in general six right now six.
- 2:33Speaker 1: That I'm like currently in a one year membership of
- 2:35Speaker 1: I don't own any lifetime or three year memberships of anything.
- 2:39Speaker 1: So we'll see how long this goes on. I might
- 2:42Speaker 1: be a double digits though by the end of the year.
- 2:45Speaker 1: All right, here's our Infrequently Asked Questions segment. If you
- 2:47Speaker 1: have a trivia related question for our crew, send it
- 2:50Speaker 1: to Trivia at the Medeater dot com with the subject
- 2:52Speaker 1: line I FAQ. Nathan Powantski says, you've mentioned before how
- 2:57Speaker 1: you will tweak listeners submitted questions to word them better.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Do you ever have anyone write and pissed that you
- 3:03Speaker 1: messed with their question? It's happened one time, and it
- 3:06Speaker 1: was also somebody named Nathan. It happened earlier this year.
- 3:09Speaker 1: But he was very angry that I changed the wording
- 3:12Speaker 1: of his question. He wrote in demanding to know what
- 3:15Speaker 1: my process is and how I fact check things I
- 3:18Speaker 1: create the questions. He was upset, Oh, well, you gotta
- 3:22Speaker 1: tell us what it was. Well, I've already given a
- 3:24Speaker 1: lot It happened this year and his name was Nathan,
- 3:26Speaker 1: So there you know, there's probably one episode where that's happened. No,
- 3:30Speaker 1: like what the question it was about? Uh uh oh,
- 3:34Speaker 1: I said his last I'm not I'm not going to
- 3:36Speaker 1: say anymore. It was about a bird. It was about
- 3:39Speaker 1: a bird. He didn't like the phrasing that I chose
- 3:42Speaker 1: and the hints that I gave rather than his. So
- 3:46Speaker 1: it doesn't happen often, or if it does happen, folks
- 3:48Speaker 1: don't write me to to tell me that they're angry.
- 3:51Speaker 1: But it has happened once.
- 3:52Speaker 3: But at the end of the end of the day,
- 3:54Speaker 3: they got to remember this is your show.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Oh wow, thank you, Max.
- 3:57Speaker 4: Yeah, but we complained about his questions criticism.
- 4:01Speaker 1: If more people are angry like that other Nathan, they
- 4:04Speaker 1: should write me and let me know. That'll that'll create
- 4:07Speaker 1: a better product, Max.
- 4:08Speaker 5: Were the people that like answered the question angry about
- 4:11Speaker 5: the question?
- 4:12Speaker 1: No, the room, I think about half of the room
- 4:15Speaker 1: got it right, but they didn't know what the alternate
- 4:17Speaker 1: version was. Maybe maybe they would have liked the listener
- 4:20Speaker 1: submitted version better. We'll never know. All right, there's no
- 4:23Speaker 1: housekeeping today, so we can get to the trivia, and
- 4:25Speaker 1: the Shelby index for this episode is a four.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Correct.
- 4:31Speaker 1: We'll find out about a half hour and with that
- 4:34Speaker 1: we're out of the game of trivia. Play the drop, Phill.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I need to know what I stand to win everything?
- 4:43Speaker 3: Probably the three just tend to win everything.
- 4:53Speaker 6: Demons.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Question one. The topic is hunting, and this will be
- 4:58Speaker 1: multiple choice. Of these states, which has the lowest population
- 5:03Speaker 1: of mule deer? Is it North Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, or Oklahoma?
- 5:14Speaker 1: Of these states, which has the lowest population of mule
- 5:18Speaker 1: deer North Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas or Oklahoma? Quick answers? Not
- 5:31Speaker 1: for Max, though I grew up in one of these states.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Thinking of these states, which has the lowest population of
- 5:40Speaker 1: mule deer? North Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma.
- 5:47Speaker 3: I thought you were gonna throw them the sharpie?
- 5:49Speaker 4: What do you got? Max?
- 5:53Speaker 1: Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 5:58Speaker 1: have Yannis saying Olahoma, Logan Oklahoma, Seth Nebraska, Alex, Kansas,
- 6:06Speaker 1: John Oklahoma, Roman, North Dakota, Max, North Dakota, Brody Oklahoma.
- 6:15Speaker 1: The correct answer is Oklahoma.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Damn it.
- 6:19Speaker 1: I think three or four of our players got that
- 6:22Speaker 1: one right, and we had every answer represented among the crew.
- 6:26Speaker 1: It's estimated that the mule deer population in Nebraska is
- 6:29Speaker 1: one hundred and thirty thousand, followed by fifty thousand in Kansas,
- 6:33Speaker 1: twenty thousand in North Dakota, and three thousand in Oklahoma.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Oklahoma's mulely heard is largely limited to the state's panhandle.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Cal didn't Cal do a?
- 6:44Speaker 6: He did do it?
- 6:45Speaker 1: Did? It was awesome?
- 6:46Speaker 6: That's why I knew the answer.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Killed one of the only mule deer in that darn state.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Question two, the topic is fishing. This game show host
- 6:54Speaker 1: who said he owns four boats and eight lakes was
- 6:58Speaker 1: given the twenty twenty five American Sport Fishing Association Impact
- 7:02Speaker 1: Award Game show. This game show host who said he
- 7:09Speaker 1: owns four boats and eight lakes, who was given the
- 7:12Speaker 1: twenty twenty five American Sport Fishing Association Impact Award.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Was this here?
- 7:18Speaker 1: I did not get that. I wish the rest of
- 7:22Speaker 1: it was true.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Though, game show?
- 7:24Speaker 1: Is this game show on currently not giving any hints?
- 7:27Speaker 1: Seth quick to answer, Seth, do you know this one?
- 7:29Speaker 1: Or do you just know one game show host?
- 7:31Speaker 7: I just know one game show host that likes to
- 7:34Speaker 7: fish a whole bunch.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Hey, there you go.
- 7:36Speaker 3: That's probably Yeah, I'm pretty good.
- 7:38Speaker 1: This game show host who said he owns four boats
- 7:41Speaker 1: and eight lakes was given the twenty twenty five American
- 7:44Speaker 1: Sport Fishing Association Impact Award. That just happened about a
- 7:48Speaker 1: week ago, and.
- 7:49Speaker 8: I cast fresh news.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Can I just tell you what game show?
- 7:57Speaker 1: No, we're gonna need a last name. Seth is the
- 8:03Speaker 1: only player who likes his answer. Seems like, Alex, do
- 8:06Speaker 1: you have this one right? Social media?
- 8:08Speaker 8: Man?
- 8:09Speaker 1: You you maybe saw this news?
- 8:10Speaker 6: No?
- 8:11Speaker 1: No, I educated guess Yoanni? Do you like your answer?
- 8:16Speaker 3: Game show?
- 8:16Speaker 8: Game show?
- 8:18Speaker 6: Game down? A game show? Hosts?
- 8:21Speaker 1: You watch any game shows?
- 8:23Speaker 6: No?
- 8:23Speaker 1: No? Did you used to?
- 8:26Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 8:27Speaker 9: When I was when I was a kid, and name
- 8:30Speaker 9: the game was come home after school?
- 8:32Speaker 1: You know what game did you? What game show did
- 8:34Speaker 1: you watch?
- 8:35Speaker 6: I think Prices right was?
- 8:37Speaker 1: What about on sick days? Was that like universal that
- 8:40Speaker 1: even from your generation you'd watch Prices right on a
- 8:43Speaker 1: sick day? Oh?
- 8:44Speaker 4: For sure?
- 8:45Speaker 9: Until like it would you'd watch whatever you could, until
- 8:48Speaker 9: like all of a sudden it would turn into like
- 8:50Speaker 9: every every network would only be paying soap obviously and.
- 8:53Speaker 6: Be like d go outside again.
- 8:57Speaker 1: This game show host who said he owns four boats
- 9:00Speaker 1: and eight lakes. It's given the twenty twenty five American
- 9:04Speaker 1: Sport Fishing Association Impact Award. Is everybody ready?
- 9:08Speaker 6: Is his name?
- 9:08Speaker 4: Spencer Newhart?
- 9:09Speaker 1: Again? I wish I had four boats in eight lakes?
- 9:14Speaker 3: Maxwell, Yeah, I can't think of his name, but.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers, saying Rob Blood, Logan
- 9:24Speaker 1: says Drew Carrey, Seth, Steve Harvey, Alex Drew Carrey, John,
- 9:31Speaker 1: Steve Harvey, Roman, Steve Harvey, Max says family feud guy
- 9:36Speaker 1: would be anybody, says Pat say Jack, I think yeah.
- 9:41Speaker 1: The correct answer is Steve Harvey. What game shows he hosts?
- 9:47Speaker 6: The family?
- 9:52Speaker 7: Come on?
- 9:53Speaker 1: Harvey learned a fish as a little boy in West Virginia.
- 9:56Speaker 1: He says it's his favorite hobby and that he once
- 9:58Speaker 1: spent six hours in a bass pro shopping for largemouth lures.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Harvey was given the Impact Award for the work his
- 10:05Speaker 1: charity does, which they say has quote introduced countless young
- 10:09Speaker 1: men and women to fishing.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Half a point.
- 10:12Speaker 4: Good for him.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Steve Harvey loves to fish. Question three, the topic is
- 10:16Speaker 1: natural history. This next great question is via Andrew Green.
- 10:21Speaker 1: This extinct elk, which is named after a country, had
- 10:25Speaker 1: the largest known antlers of any deer. This extinct elk,
- 10:32Speaker 1: which is named after a country, had the largest known
- 10:35Speaker 1: antlers of any deer. Rody and Yanni quick to answer,
- 10:41Speaker 1: Seth is now joining them, Seth, do you have this
- 10:46Speaker 1: one right?
- 10:47Speaker 4: If I can go back on the time machine and
- 10:48Speaker 4: go hunt and this is what.
- 10:49Speaker 1: I want to go.
- 10:50Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't know.
- 10:52Speaker 9: Educated guess somebody I know is over there recently and
- 10:57Speaker 9: saw a set of these antlers on the wall.
- 10:59Speaker 4: It was incredible.
- 11:02Speaker 1: It was over the flavor texts.
- 11:05Speaker 6: Boys.
- 11:09Speaker 1: This extinct elk, which is named after a country, had
- 11:14Speaker 1: the largest known antlers of any deer.
- 11:21Speaker 9: Although I have been editing my Lab episode, which I
- 11:24Speaker 9: solo film last year, and it came out extremely well.
- 11:27Speaker 6: Delighted with how it came out.
- 11:30Speaker 9: You're editing it not too much well part of the
- 11:32Speaker 9: edit process, you know, I've been doing. I did yesterday.
- 11:36Speaker 9: I worked on the translations, which is I always think
- 11:40Speaker 9: it's going to be really easy and it's a bitch.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Do you have to consult your dad on that or you.
- 11:47Speaker 9: There was one term that was used and I did
- 11:49Speaker 9: actually consulted three people and malts means like oftentimes you
- 11:56Speaker 9: you'll hear a parent talking to their kid after they've
- 11:59Speaker 9: done something very well, and they'll just say, mallatsis and
- 12:02Speaker 9: you're applying that to them.
- 12:06Speaker 6: But I got varied answers.
- 12:07Speaker 9: My mom was like, oh, it's very like like on
- 12:09Speaker 9: a spiritual level, like this sort of you know you've
- 12:13Speaker 9: done great. But then other people were just like, no,
- 12:15Speaker 9: it just means you excelled at your task.
- 12:17Speaker 1: How is it said to you?
- 12:19Speaker 9: Oh, no, it was, It wasn't said to me. Well,
- 12:21Speaker 9: in the video it was used. She was speaking to
- 12:25Speaker 9: her dog after he had found the pig I shot.
- 12:28Speaker 9: She said, gener question three natural history.
- 12:33Speaker 1: This extinct elk, which is named after a country, had
- 12:36Speaker 1: the largest known antlers of any deer. Is everybody ready, Seth,
- 12:42Speaker 1: go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Yiannis saying Irish, Logan, African, Seth, Canadian, Alex,
- 12:51Speaker 1: Mongolian John without an answer, Roman, Scottish, cloeat New Zealand
- 12:59Speaker 1: Brody Irish. The correct answer is the Irish elk. Brody
- 13:04Speaker 1: and Yanni got that.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Yeahgan, I'll point out Africa is not a country.
- 13:09Speaker 5: See I thought about that and last time I had
- 13:13Speaker 5: a similar geography issue. You pointed that out as well.
- 13:17Speaker 5: I did actually think about that. I was like, you know,
- 13:19Speaker 5: I know that this is not a country, but it's great.
- 13:22Speaker 1: You just see if or just see if Brody's paying attention,
- 13:25Speaker 1: and he was. The antlers of the Irish elk could
- 13:29Speaker 1: span twelve feet. Most of them went extinct during the
- 13:32Speaker 1: Ice Age, but a small herd in Siberia evidently held
- 13:36Speaker 1: on for an extra four thousand years. Some Irish elk
- 13:39Speaker 1: fossils from the region have been dated to as recently
- 13:42Speaker 1: as seven thousand years ago. It's thought those holdouts eventually
- 13:46Speaker 1: died due to a warming climate and human hunting.
- 13:49Speaker 5: Question four, Wait, hold up South Africa as a country
- 13:53Speaker 5: though right, yes, yes, so technically my answer was based.
- 13:56Speaker 1: On question for the topic is AutoZone says the function
- 14:03Speaker 1: of this ten letter motor part is to quote mix
- 14:06Speaker 1: air and fuel in the proper ratio for combustion. Brody
- 14:15Speaker 1: already has his answer down. AutoZone says, the function of
- 14:19Speaker 1: this ten letter motor part is to mix air and
- 14:22Speaker 1: fuel in the proper ratio for combustion. Seth, You have
- 14:26Speaker 1: this right, I think so over there, I saw that,
- 14:31Speaker 1: but he goes cap on. So it's like he's microdo
- 14:34Speaker 1: saying markers not just freelining it.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Or you're smelling hands got it? Which is weird?
- 14:41Speaker 1: Smells like blueberries.
- 14:43Speaker 6: It's blue one definitely better.
- 14:48Speaker 4: Actually, I'm pretty good. I think you're good.
- 14:50Speaker 1: AutoZone says the function of this ten letter motor part
- 14:53Speaker 1: is to mix air and fuel in the proper ratio
- 14:56Speaker 1: for combustion. What he likes Max's answer the first one today.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Seth seems to like his answer, Yanni, do you like
- 15:05Speaker 1: your answer? Yes, ten letter motor part. It mixes air
- 15:12Speaker 1: and fuel in the proper ratio.
- 15:16Speaker 6: Just spelling count As long as I have the right
- 15:18Speaker 6: amount of letters.
- 15:20Speaker 1: We know what you're talking about should be close enough.
- 15:24Speaker 4: Did you count them?
- 15:25Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 15:25Speaker 4: Ten?
- 15:25Speaker 3: Right?
- 15:27Speaker 4: Spell the letter?
- 15:31Speaker 6: Yeah, there's a vowel there in the middle. It's tripping
- 15:33Speaker 6: me up.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Okay, there's a little hint. Yanni says, there's a vowel
- 15:38Speaker 1: in the middle.
- 15:38Speaker 4: It's a word with a vowel.
- 15:40Speaker 6: It's ten letters, I imagine.
- 15:42Speaker 4: Yeah, did you play word?
- 15:45Speaker 6: No, I've been off the world train.
- 15:49Speaker 1: To clear your mind for this race coming up.
- 15:51Speaker 9: Huh No, it's been much longer, just kind of I
- 15:54Speaker 9: got the same way with that I am with Instagram.
- 15:57Speaker 9: I just was like, you know, what, do I really
- 15:58Speaker 9: need to give wordle five to ten minutes of my
- 16:00Speaker 9: day every day?
- 16:01Speaker 6: Nope?
- 16:03Speaker 1: Alright, is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 16:08Speaker 1: We have Giannis saying carburetor, Logan says combustion, Seth carburetor,
- 16:14Speaker 1: Alex says injector, John carburetor, Roman carburetor, Max carburetor, Brody carburetor.
- 16:22Speaker 1: The correct answer is carburetor. You spell that C A R,
- 16:27Speaker 1: B U R et O R. Could anybody spell it
- 16:31Speaker 1: right out right and spelled it right? Signs that your
- 16:37Speaker 1: carburetor need replacing or maintenance include rough idling, poor acceleration,
- 16:42Speaker 1: and engine stalls. Although carburetors are still common in small engines,
- 16:47Speaker 1: they've been phased out of vehicles. The nineteen ninety Subaru
- 16:51Speaker 1: Justy was the last car sold in America with a carburetor.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Brody Seth, You boys ever work on carburetors on your boats?
- 16:59Speaker 4: A little bit? I got runs like a dream.
- 17:02Speaker 7: Yeah, they're a tough thing to work on.
- 17:04Speaker 6: But I think they're fuel.
- 17:06Speaker 1: And electric fuel injector?
- 17:09Speaker 6: Is that right? Yeah?
- 17:10Speaker 4: I never worked on them.
- 17:11Speaker 7: On a boat, but other things.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Question five, The topic is cooking. This sushi role, which
- 17:20Speaker 1: is named after its colorful presentation, is made by placing salmon, tuna,
- 17:25Speaker 1: and yellowfin on top of a California role. Our sushi
- 17:31Speaker 1: eaters answering this question before I even finished it, But
- 17:36Speaker 1: we have three players who maybe don't like sushi as much. Roman.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Do you like sushi?
- 17:40Speaker 4: I do?
- 17:41Speaker 5: I was gonna mention that I saw there's a new
- 17:43Speaker 5: food born illness from another sushi restaurant here.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Really, I saw we just got a new sushi place
- 17:48Speaker 1: in town as well.
- 17:49Speaker 3: Alex text me about that.
- 17:50Speaker 4: What plays?
- 17:52Speaker 3: I don't know if I should name names, but it's
- 17:54Speaker 3: not the one from a few years.
- 17:56Speaker 6: Didn't make an use?
- 17:56Speaker 10: Or was it just that angry Reddit post? Because I
- 17:58Speaker 10: saw the angry Reddit post.
- 17:59Speaker 3: I think we are looking at the same circles.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Again. Question five. This sushi role, which is named for
- 18:07Speaker 1: its colorful presentation, is made by placing salmon, tuna and
- 18:11Speaker 1: the yellow fin on top of a California roll.
- 18:14Speaker 4: Sounds delicious.
- 18:17Speaker 6: I'd like to eat one of these right now.
- 18:18Speaker 1: What do you think, Seth? Do you like sushi?
- 18:20Speaker 6: I love sushi, okay.
- 18:22Speaker 4: But I don't. I don't. I can't recall the name of.
- 18:24Speaker 1: This John, do you have this one right?
- 18:26Speaker 10: I don't think so. I have a sushi roll name down,
- 18:30Speaker 10: but I don't think it's it.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Okay, this is question five, so we'll get a scoreboard
- 18:35Speaker 1: update from Fill the engineer after this is everybody ready,
- 18:39Speaker 1: go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Giannis and
- 18:42Speaker 1: Logan saying rainbow roll color Seth without an answer. Alex
- 18:46Speaker 1: Herber says rainbow John says dragon roll, Roman says party
- 18:52Speaker 1: roll it, Max and Brody say rainbow roll. They got it.
- 18:56Speaker 1: The correct answer is the rainbow rolle coming back. The
- 19:00Speaker 1: rainbow roll is filled with crab, avocado, and cucumber, then
- 19:04Speaker 1: topped with slices of different colored fish. Its base roll.
- 19:08Speaker 1: The California role was declared the number one most popular
- 19:11Speaker 1: sushi role in America by School of Sushi, while the
- 19:15Speaker 1: Rainbow roll was number six. All right, Phil, let's get
- 19:18Speaker 1: a scoreboard update.
- 19:21Speaker 6: At halftime.
- 19:22Speaker 10: Everyone's on the board. We've got Alex with one point,
- 19:24Speaker 10: Logan and Roman and Max and Seth have two points.
- 19:29Speaker 10: John has three and tied up in first place are
- 19:31Speaker 10: Yiannis and Brody with four feel.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Like Giannis has been bringing it lately.
- 19:35Speaker 4: Man, it's the hair chain.
- 19:39Speaker 1: You might have to keep that now. Question six, The
- 19:45Speaker 1: topic is hunting. This man lost his job as Outdoor
- 19:50Speaker 1: Life's hunting editor in two thousand and seven after a
- 19:53Speaker 1: controversial article about ars.
- 19:56Speaker 6: Oh.
- 19:57Speaker 3: I thought it's gonna be a different question.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Brody quick to answer, Yanni joining him, the only two players.
- 20:05Speaker 3: I thought so far.
- 20:06Speaker 8: I thought it was gonna be the question about the
- 20:08Speaker 8: guy who like shot that mule deer and then someone
- 20:10Speaker 8: else shot it too.
- 20:12Speaker 1: No, but that was more recent than that.
- 20:15Speaker 6: I talked to this fella about squirrel hunting.
- 20:18Speaker 2: That was actually I don't think you should be given
- 20:20Speaker 2: that someone might remember your conversation.
- 20:23Speaker 1: M Oh, you think maybe this man lost his job
- 20:27Speaker 1: as Outdoor Life's hunting editor in two thousand and seven
- 20:30Speaker 1: after a controversial article about ars. I'm sad. Do you
- 20:35Speaker 1: have this one right?
- 20:37Speaker 6: Oh?
- 20:38Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 20:39Speaker 7: I think I recall something about this in this guy,
- 20:42Speaker 7: but I don't.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Brody, do you remember when this happened?
- 20:45Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 20:45Speaker 8: Oh?
- 20:45Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, how about you Yan big hub Ub Yeah,
- 20:49Speaker 1: fifteen years ago. Longer than that. What did he say?
- 20:53Speaker 1: I will tell you in the flavor text This man
- 20:56Speaker 1: lost his job as Outdoor Life's hunting editor in two
- 20:58Speaker 1: thousand and seven after he traversial article about ars to
- 21:02Speaker 1: where other players give up. Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 21:08Speaker 1: We have Yanni saying Jim Zumbo Logan without an answer,
- 21:12Speaker 1: Seth says Jim Sumbo, Alex and John without an answer.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Roman says Shell Silverstein, Max says tread Barda, and Brody
- 21:23Speaker 1: says Jim Zumbo. The correct answer is Jim Zumbo. In
- 21:28Speaker 1: Zumbo's article, he said, quote, excuse me. Maybe I'm a traditionalist,
- 21:32Speaker 1: but I see no place for these weapons among our fraternity.
- 21:35Speaker 1: I'll go as far as to call them terrorist rifles.
- 21:38Speaker 1: I say game departments should ban them from the prairies
- 21:41Speaker 1: and woods. The fallout caused Zumbo to lose his job
- 21:44Speaker 1: and receive death threats. He later apologized in a forum
- 21:47Speaker 1: post on Ted Nugent's website, saying he was ignorant about
- 21:50Speaker 1: black rifles and planned to do an AR fifteen hunt
- 21:53Speaker 1: with the Nuge.
- 21:55Speaker 10: Are you giving that one to Seth? I didn't see
- 21:57Speaker 10: what Seth had it right? Oh okay, I heard you
- 22:00Speaker 10: say an Max?
- 22:02Speaker 1: Are you related to tread Barda. I never considered that
- 22:05Speaker 1: you guys had the same last.
- 22:06Speaker 8: Name, no no relation as a as honest.
- 22:09Speaker 4: And I used to.
- 22:12Speaker 1: He was around our outfitters, and I imagine you have
- 22:17Speaker 1: not real favorable things to say about him.
- 22:19Speaker 4: Is that I'm not going to okay.
- 22:22Speaker 8: I grew up watching them on it was the Outdoor
- 22:27Speaker 8: channel was Versus. Yeah, that was my favorite hunting show
- 22:30Speaker 8: growing up.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Mine was on the Versus channel. Benny spots.
- 22:35Speaker 6: Question seven.
- 22:36Speaker 1: The topic is fishing. This is our listener question of
- 22:39Speaker 1: the week, which was won by Mitch Goks for sending
- 22:42Speaker 1: this great question. Mitch is going to get a board
- 22:44Speaker 1: game signed by the crew. If you want a chance
- 22:46Speaker 1: to win a listener question of the Week, then send
- 22:48Speaker 1: your question to Trivia at the Meat Eater dot com.
- 22:51Speaker 1: What kind of whale is moby Dick? What kind of
- 22:57Speaker 1: whale is Moby Dick? Kah Brody quick to answer, Nanny's
- 23:04Speaker 1: jaw hit the floor. He doesn't like this one. What
- 23:08Speaker 1: kind of whale is moby Dick? I just saw my
- 23:11Speaker 1: wh the beach, Max, You're on fire, all right?
- 23:17Speaker 6: Uh?
- 23:17Speaker 1: Brody was shocked that Max had the answers the first time.
- 23:23Speaker 1: What kind of whale?
- 23:26Speaker 4: Give it away?
- 23:29Speaker 1: Yanni who I believe is tied for the lead has
- 23:34Speaker 1: a blank white board. You got right stuck between two
- 23:39Speaker 1: options with my kind of whale is Moby Dick? Be honest?
- 23:47Speaker 1: Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 23:51Speaker 1: have Yanni's saying come back logan white whale, Seth sperm whale,
- 23:58Speaker 1: ALEX blue whale, John sperm whale. Roman and Max and
- 24:03Speaker 1: Brody say sperm whale. They got it. The correct answer
- 24:06Speaker 1: is a spur whale.
- 24:08Speaker 3: This was on fire.
- 24:10Speaker 1: They're doing good. More specifically, Moby Dick was a white
- 24:13Speaker 1: bull sperm whale. Although most think of the whale as
- 24:16Speaker 1: in albino, Herman Melville writes that it has two prominent
- 24:20Speaker 1: white areas and that the rest of the body has
- 24:23Speaker 1: splotches of white and gray. Therefore, moby Dick was lucistic
- 24:26Speaker 1: or piebald, not albino. Question eight the topic is biology.
- 24:31Speaker 1: This next great question is via Tim Allen, Phil can
- 24:34Speaker 1: you give us a little Tim Allen sounder over there? Okay,
- 24:41Speaker 1: very good. This eight letter word is defined as quote
- 24:44Speaker 1: a grooming behavior where birds use their beaks to clean, realign,
- 24:50Speaker 1: and maintain their feathers. Eight letters. We have not had
- 24:57Speaker 1: this question. His question height. We'll get a scoreboard up
- 25:01Speaker 1: day in after this. This eight letter word is defined
- 25:05Speaker 1: as a grooming behavior where birds use their beaks to clean, realign,
- 25:10Speaker 1: and maintain their feathers.
- 25:14Speaker 3: That's what they do.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Okay, thank you. Max. At the demonstration, Max, do you
- 25:20Speaker 1: have this one right?
- 25:22Speaker 3: I sure hope?
- 25:23Speaker 1: So?
- 25:23Speaker 3: Okay, I really hope.
- 25:24Speaker 1: So here is.
- 25:25Speaker 7: Kind of a bird guy in this room.
- 25:31Speaker 10: Very good, sound like Tim Allen?
- 25:35Speaker 1: Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 25:39Speaker 1: have Jannis saying preening, Logan says primping, Seth preening, Alex cleaning,
- 25:47Speaker 1: John and Roman without an answer. Max says preening, Brody preening.
- 25:53Speaker 1: The correct answer is preening. It's p r E E
- 25:57Speaker 1: N I n G. The Nash in a Wild Turkey
- 26:00Speaker 1: Federation says that preening is such a significant part of
- 26:04Speaker 1: a take of a turkey's daily routine that it's second
- 26:07Speaker 1: in time only to feeding. For gobblers. This behavior can
- 26:10Speaker 1: include dusting and sunning. Preening creates stronger feathers, reduces parasites,
- 26:15Speaker 1: and makes males more attractive to hens. All right, Phil,
- 26:19Speaker 1: give us a scoreboard update.
- 26:24Speaker 3: In the Duck World. It helps with waterproofness.
- 26:27Speaker 10: After question eight, Alex Logan, Roman, John, and Max are
- 26:33Speaker 10: not have not accumulated enough points to win the game.
- 26:36Speaker 10: I got four and a half, Phil, but Jannis has
- 26:40Speaker 10: or Seth has five, Yannis has six, and Brodie is
- 26:42Speaker 10: in first place with seven points.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Max pointed out that waterproofing is one of the duck purposes.
- 26:49Speaker 1: They also say that for turkeys, but I don't think
- 26:51Speaker 1: if turkeys as being very waterproof, so I didn't include that.
- 26:53Speaker 1: But it's basically spreading their oils from one specific glands
- 26:58Speaker 1: preen Yeah, ducks got a on their button that secretes
- 27:02Speaker 1: oil part of their preening process. Question nine, the topic
- 27:05Speaker 1: is conservation. The National Park Service said they saw an
- 27:10Speaker 1: increase of young visitors in twenty sixteen thanks to the
- 27:13Speaker 1: release of this augmented reality mobile game.
- 27:19Speaker 6: What is the augmented reality mobile game?
- 27:22Speaker 1: Bill can explain it to you? After this The National
- 27:26Speaker 1: Park Service said they saw an increase of young visitors
- 27:29Speaker 1: in twenty sixteen thanks to the release of this augmented
- 27:33Speaker 1: reality mobile game. Brody currently in the lead. Phil.
- 27:41Speaker 4: Did you come up with this question?
- 27:43Speaker 10: No, but I'm very grateful it's concerted.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Phil will get to talk about augmented reality after this.
- 27:49Speaker 6: I bet they played on a switch, don't they.
- 27:52Speaker 1: I don't know. You find out I think so in
- 27:55Speaker 1: the flavor text. Okay, so again in SETH, don't agree, Alex,
- 28:01Speaker 1: do you have this one right? Confidence? Okay?
- 28:05Speaker 6: John?
- 28:06Speaker 1: Do you have this one right?
- 28:07Speaker 10: I don't think so.
- 28:07Speaker 8: Okay, I'm trying to figure out how my answers deals
- 28:11Speaker 8: with the National Parks.
- 28:12Speaker 1: The National Park Service said they saw an increase of
- 28:15Speaker 1: young visitors in twenty sixteen thanks to the release of
- 28:19Speaker 1: this augmented reality mobile game. And Brody and Yanni have
- 28:24Speaker 1: blank whiteboards.
- 28:28Speaker 7: This would be a time to get ahead if.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Only again this question nine will just be the time
- 28:35Speaker 1: to catch up board after this, Yanni, how we doing.
- 28:43Speaker 6: Not great?
- 28:44Speaker 1: Brody? How we doing even worse?
- 28:47Speaker 5: Okay, a man with hair should know the answer is.
- 28:51Speaker 1: The National Park Service said they saw an increase of
- 28:54Speaker 1: young visitors in twenty sixteen thanks to the release of
- 28:57Speaker 1: this augmented reality mobile game. Phil, have you played this game?
- 29:03Speaker 1: This will be the room's one hint is Phil played
- 29:05Speaker 1: this game?
- 29:05Speaker 7: I have played this Okay, he has.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Played this game. There you go, played a lot of games.
- 29:09Speaker 3: So Phil, you like it.
- 29:13Speaker 10: It's possible. I just played this game thirty seconds ago.
- 29:16Speaker 10: Okay for this question, okay, perfect?
- 29:20Speaker 8: Can I see your recent apps?
- 29:24Speaker 1: Brody and Yanni are stumped. The National Park Service said
- 29:29Speaker 1: they saw an increase of young visitors in twenty sixteen
- 29:32Speaker 1: thanks to the release of this augmented reality mobile game.
- 29:36Speaker 1: I'm trying to think about, Brody, Yanni, do you give up?
- 29:39Speaker 6: I do? I'm trying to think of a name of
- 29:42Speaker 6: a video game.
- 29:43Speaker 4: Maybe Yes will get it and make the game a
- 29:45Speaker 4: little more interesting.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Yanni, do you give up? Phil was just playing it
- 29:52Speaker 1: a minute ago.
- 29:55Speaker 6: I think this is a game.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Okay, go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Yianna
- 29:59Speaker 1: saying Fortnite. Oh says Pokemon Go. Seth says Fortnite, Alex POKEMONO, John,
- 30:08Speaker 1: Pokemon Go, Roman, Clash of the Clans, Max, Clash of
- 30:12Speaker 1: the Clans. Brody without an answer. The correct answer is
- 30:17Speaker 1: Pokemon Go. The never get that right.
- 30:22Speaker 6: I don't know what a carburetor is.
- 30:27Speaker 1: Courageous players to go outside to visit pokey stops, which
- 30:31Speaker 1: are typically landmarks such as historic plaques, museums, hiking trails,
- 30:35Speaker 1: and statues. This makes National Parks and national monuments a
- 30:39Speaker 1: hot spot for trainers. The youth traffic got so overwhelming
- 30:43Speaker 1: in twenty sixteen that rangers started leading guided Pokemon tours
- 30:47Speaker 1: across historic sites. A spokeswoman for the NPS said that
- 30:51Speaker 1: summer quote, this is an age group we love to
- 30:54Speaker 1: have in the parks. All right, Philip, explain POKEMONO and
- 30:59Speaker 1: augmented reality.
- 31:00Speaker 10: I just caught a magnamite, is okay?
- 31:05Speaker 1: Perfect?
- 31:06Speaker 10: Augmented reality is different than virtual reality. And then augmented
- 31:09Speaker 10: reality uses like a video feed of something like like
- 31:12Speaker 10: an actual camera feed and then overlays images into it
- 31:15Speaker 10: to look like it's a part of the actual world.
- 31:17Speaker 10: So Pokemon go uses GPS and actual mapping, so you
- 31:21Speaker 10: can walk around your town and like Spencer said, landmarks
- 31:24Speaker 10: are poke stops, or you can like collect items and
- 31:27Speaker 10: there are gyms, or you can battle other book. I
- 31:29Speaker 10: just found out a minute ago that the pond behind
- 31:31Speaker 10: our office as a poke stops.
- 31:35Speaker 1: Like in an augmented reality, there could be a Pikachu
- 31:38Speaker 1: sitting on Yanni's shoulder, right now. That's that's how the.
- 31:41Speaker 3: The Is there anything in this?
- 31:44Speaker 6: Yeah? Yeah, there is.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Actually uh here's the correct answer. Review so far one
- 31:49Speaker 1: was Oklahoma two, Steve Harvey three, Irish Elk four, Carburetor five,
- 31:56Speaker 1: Rainbow Roll six, Jim Zumbo seven, sperm eight, Preening nine
- 32:02Speaker 1: POKEMONO Phil. Let's get a scoreboard update for question ten?
- 32:06Speaker 3: Should have six right right.
- 32:07Speaker 10: Now, we've got Yiannis with six points and Brody with
- 32:13Speaker 10: seven points.
- 32:14Speaker 1: Question ten the topic is woodsmanship and this next great
- 32:18Speaker 1: question is via Eric Winrich. The Old Farmer's Almanac calls
- 32:24Speaker 1: the blank Bear caterpillar miniature meteorologists because of their reputation
- 32:30Speaker 1: for predicting winter weather. Brody had his answer before I
- 32:34Speaker 1: finished the question. It seems as though he's wrapped up
- 32:36Speaker 1: the victory with eight correct answers. The Old Farmer's Almanac
- 32:41Speaker 1: calls the blank Bear caterpillar quote miniature meteorologists because of
- 32:46Speaker 1: their reputation for predicting winter weather.
- 32:51Speaker 6: Seth.
- 32:51Speaker 7: Do you have this one right? I think so, believing
- 32:56Speaker 7: we call him something different.
- 32:57Speaker 1: M Yanni. Do you have this one right? No? The
- 33:01Speaker 1: blank bear caterpillar and they are miniature meteorologists. Brody, were
- 33:05Speaker 1: you familiar with this bit of lore?
- 33:08Speaker 4: Yeah? If I remember right, I'll explain more.
- 33:11Speaker 1: Great Max. Do you have this one thing? No, Blank
- 33:17Speaker 1: Bear caterpillar.
- 33:19Speaker 3: But I'm trying trying to my old.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Farmer's Almanac calls them miniature meteorologists because of their reputation
- 33:25Speaker 1: for predicting winter weather. Is everybody ready, Okay, I'm getting
- 33:36Speaker 1: Give Logan one more second, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 33:39Speaker 1: We have Giannas saying black. Logan says black, Seth, Wooly,
- 33:45Speaker 1: Alex Brown, John without an answer, Roman, polar Max, Fuzzy, Brody, Wooly.
- 33:54Speaker 1: The correct answer is the wooly bear caterpillar, making Brody
- 33:59Speaker 1: our winner with eight correct answers.
- 34:02Speaker 6: Wasn't it a.
- 34:04Speaker 4: The weather thing?
- 34:05Speaker 2: Like predicting had something to do with their color pattern?
- 34:08Speaker 1: Wooly bear caterpillars turn into tiger moths as larva. They
- 34:12Speaker 1: are two colors. The Farmer's Almanac lore says that if
- 34:16Speaker 1: there's more black then it will be a bad winter,
- 34:18Speaker 1: and if there's more brown then it will be a
- 34:20Speaker 1: mild winter. But Noah says this is just a myth,
- 34:24Speaker 1: and that woolybear color is based on diet and age.
- 34:28Speaker 6: We call them wooly buggers.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Wooly buggers have heard the fishing flying card of the flybugger,
- 34:33Speaker 1: but never heard the caterpillar called a wooly bugger wooly
- 34:36Speaker 1: bear caterpillar. All right, Brody, what are you gonna do
- 34:39Speaker 1: with the five hundred dollars today?
- 34:42Speaker 2: Sage grouse were recently declared extinct in the state of
- 34:46Speaker 2: North Dakota.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Max shed a tear over then.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Real bummer, So we're gonna donate it to the sage
- 34:52Speaker 2: Grouse Initiative.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Okay, five hundred dollars going their way via Brody and
- 34:58Speaker 1: Meat or Brody nailed the Shelby Index today, correct answer.
- 35:03Speaker 1: Join us next week for more meat Eater trivia. The
- 35:04Speaker 1: only game show conservation always wins. Yes, Spencer from South Dakota.
- 35:11Speaker 1: He's the host, using those smooth.
- 35:13Speaker 4: Mellow tones.
- 35:14Speaker 1: He lays them questions down. He likes taking those two
- 35:24Speaker 1: and three year old bucks.
- 35:27Speaker 2: It is an avid amateur
