- 3:01Believing the Journey is basically a podcast where we discover the journey that we are
- 3:07on and understand that it has a purpose for our lives. Tonight's show is
- 3:13a bonus episode where we will be honoring those who are dealing with breast cancer
- 3:17and honor our Breast and Care Breast Cancer Awareness Month and those who have basically
- 3:24won the battle. Cancer did not defeat them. And I have a guest
- 3:29tonight who is who is my sister in law. I don't know how she
- 3:34deals with my brother too much, but that's a whole nother show for a
- 3:38whole nother day. But as always, we cannot start this show without going
- 3:40to God first. So buy your hands with me and let's go to God
- 3:45in prayer. Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for bringing us together as you
- 3:47do each and every time that we are in your space. So help us
- 3:53to bring forth the words that are necessary to help those who are dealing with
- 3:59the battle of cancer, and let them know that they are not alone.
- 4:01They are able to fight this battle because you have the final say. You
- 4:05guide their steps, you order their words, and they will not be defeated
- 4:10because you will guide them through each and every step of the way so that
- 4:14they will come out on top, just as my sister in law did.
- 4:17Thank you for all that you do, all that you continue to do for
- 4:21us. In your purcas and holy name Jesus, we pray Amen. And
- 4:26now I'm going to bring up my guest, Ms. Leakejah. Maybry come
- 4:30always talk about how you conquered cancer. Welcome, Welcome, Welcome, thank
- 4:36you, thank you are welcome. Now, as we were talking before the
- 4:42show, having breast cancer and having any type of health issue is not something
- 4:48that most people like to talk about if you're not the immediate family. So
- 4:54I want to thank you for being open enough to share your journey with this.
- 5:00I can't really say it's, in my opinion it's a man made disease,
- 5:04because God always has the power to oversee each and every one of these
- 5:10things that we go through. But you were able to conquer this. I
- 5:15want to start by asking you the question of were you used to doing monthly
- 5:23checks on your breast? Were you able to do that? Like I know,
- 5:27I can't honestly say that I don't keep up with doing that, But
- 5:30were you doing that? And is that how you decided to go to the
- 5:35doctor. I wasn't. However, I was going and having my yearly check
- 5:43ups with my obg y N and this particular time, well, and he
- 5:48he did. He does regular checks every day, and I had been going.
- 5:56I've actually been with the same doctor for probably twenty years or more,
- 6:02okay, and so those that's just one of the things that he regularly checks
- 6:09every year, and this particular time he felt something and he was like,
- 6:15have you scheduled your mammogram because I had I was forty two, okay,
- 6:23so I had had two prior to and I said, well, yes,
- 6:30it's scheduled, and he says, okay, well be sure that they checked
- 6:34this area. Okay, So my ob, my ob actually found it.
- 6:41Okay, Okay. When you went, did they schedule just a regular ultrasound
- 6:46or did they do just the mammogram or did they do both? Well,
- 6:49when I went, it was just a regular mammogram, and they had started
- 6:54to where they review before you leave or whatever to look at it, and
- 7:04so they did that and then they had a spot. Well, when the
- 7:08lady looked at the pictures and stuff, she was really just like, I
- 7:15don't like the way that looks. Let me check this out. You want
- 7:20to come back for a biopsy? And I'm like, no, ma'am,
- 7:25I'm here now. So they put me in a slot that was like I
- 7:30had to wait maybe twenty minutes, and they put me in the next available
- 7:34slot. She did the biopsy on that Wednesday, and I got the results
- 7:41on that Friday. Oh wow, that was really quick. That's very quick.
- 7:46Yes, Now, when you had the biopsy, were you nervous about
- 7:53having it and was it painful for you? I was nervous, and I
- 7:59think what really made me nervous was how she kept looking and feeling and touching,
- 8:05and she just kept saying, I really don't like the way that looks.
- 8:09So that's when I got nervous because I had been prior to. Maybe
- 8:15I was forty one. When I was, I don't even remember. I
- 8:18could gone prior to, and it was my first time because my first one
- 8:22was at forty and of course everybody had told me then, well, you
- 8:28know, they don't have anything to compare it to, so you'll proper,
- 8:31you'll get a call back, and I did, so I was like,
- 8:35okay, here we go. So I went back at forty and then they
- 8:41checked me I think three months and then six months later because I did have
- 8:46to go back. Everything was fine. So I go back forty one,
- 8:52they see nothing, everything is clear. Forty two, I come back and
- 8:56it is the exact same area as when I was forty and I'm like,
- 9:01okay, wait a minute, so where did it go? And that one
- 9:07year between came back, So for me, I said, you know,
- 9:13that was that one year in between I was saying, no, she not
- 9:18ready for this, right, I mean, that's really what I feel like,
- 9:22That's really what it was. It was like, nah, she not
- 9:24ready for this. You know, you had to go through some other little
- 9:28stuff, and then forty two it was like, yep, here I am.
- 9:35And that was a really life changing experience. I thought at the time
- 9:41I had a relationship with God, but it just like went to a whole
- 9:46different level, right, But of course that was after the crying and you
- 9:52know, the whole trying to bargain with God and Ques and you're like,
- 10:00God, okay, look here, I didn't this wasn't on the list that
- 10:03I had this there, this in here, because it wasn't there. I
- 10:11didn't see it, Like I didn't sign up for that part what we're supposed
- 10:16to be going with this. So I think that when you have a health
- 10:20scare, you begin to talk to God in a way that you never imagine,
- 10:26and that relationship begins to blossom and you have that conversation like oh my
- 10:37God, it's like God, look here me and you we on speed down
- 10:41now and you throughout my day. Somebody don't got on my nerves. God
- 10:46look at your child. So I feel like that is one of the times
- 10:54that you know that God has your back like no other and have the support
- 11:01system close by. But it's nothing like having God to know that He's got
- 11:07you and no other capacity, that he will not let you falter. He
- 11:11will not you can. He'll give you your little time for your little pity
- 11:15party, yes that time, but he gonna tap you on the shoulder be
- 11:18like, hey, you done, because ye wrap this up, because you've
- 11:24got mother thanks to do. This was just a test for your testimony,
- 11:30so come on, we got stuff to do. Exactly The next question I
- 11:35got to ask you, do you feel like you had a very solid support
- 11:41system around you like none other? And I believe that because when my brother
- 11:50told me about the diagnosis and everything, even though he'll never probably admit it,
- 11:58he was terrified himself. But he will never ever admit at all because
- 12:09it's just who he is. He's just not gonna do it. But I
- 12:13feel like the support that he gave you and the other people that were with
- 12:20him with you helped to strengthen your fight to win, you know, because
- 12:28if you don't have that support system that's helping you, and that's going to
- 12:33God on your behalf. It's like you fighting a losing battle because you don't
- 12:39have enough prayer warriors. That's fighting on your behalf. But when you got
- 12:43him, it's already defeated. There's nothing else. It ain't even gonna be
- 12:50a test because you coming out on the other side. So I feel like
- 12:54that's that's a major major thing, is having that support system. Yes,
- 13:00yes, what do you think was your greatest challenge dealing with the actual process.
- 13:18I would probably have to say at that time when I got diagnosed,
- 13:24I was starting a new job. Oh, so of course I didn't have
- 13:35time. I couldn't not work. I worked throughout the whole process. So
- 13:43I think the greatest challenge was really just pushing through because there were times I
- 13:54wanted to just say I don't want to do anything now. There were times
- 13:58when I couldn't. I slept right, there were there was also times when
- 14:05I didn't want to, but I know that I knew that I had to
- 14:11right, I had to keep going. I had to drive. You know,
- 14:16we live. I worked in Charlotte, so you know from us that
- 14:20was about a forty five minute drive, so and this was pre COVID.
- 14:28Yeah, so I had to. I was there five days a week.
- 14:31I had to schedule my treatments and things around working, but I had to
- 14:37work. So I would think that that was probably the hardest part, just
- 14:41pushing through. Yeah, I would definitely say so, because you don't realize
- 14:46how much your body is going through at that time. And now, I'm
- 14:52sure that when you look back over it, you don't know how you did
- 14:54it. I do not like it's somewha a blur when you start to look
- 15:01at it and like, from where you are right now and now, I'm
- 15:05pretty sure you've probably had these conversations with yourself and be like like, God,
- 15:09look here today, I don't have it, and I'm gonna need you
- 15:13to carry me because I don't have it. I don't have the strength,
- 15:18I don't know where it's coming from. I can't put one foot in front
- 15:22of the other unless you help me to do that. So I understand that
- 15:26that had to be some of those conversations those days. And now as you
- 15:30sit and you look and you're like, yeah, that wasn't me. Yeah,
- 15:37exactly, that was not me. I did not do that because now
- 15:43something happened. I was like, you know what, I ain't going I
- 15:46ain't doing that and I'm sitting righting down that couch. I'm not doing it.
- 15:50Yes, yes, just I don't know. All I can do is
- 15:56just say thank you Lord, because that's all I got. Listen. I
- 16:00can honestly say that going through something that's help related, whether it's breast cancer,
- 16:08whether it's you know loopis or spinal bivoita, whether it is you know
- 16:15MS or anything like that, it's a challenge for a person to have to
- 16:19tell themselves to get up and to ken to continue to move forward, because
- 16:26if you don't, you will just dwarf the way because you're not motivating yourself,
- 16:33and that will to live and that will to fight it starts to dwindle
- 16:37and it will take its toll on you. And that's where that support system
- 16:41comes in, because if you don't have that support system, they like,
- 16:45Okay, look here, I know you're not feeling good, but I need
- 16:48you to do this. I need you. I need you to get up
- 16:51and go with me. You ain't got to stay that long, but you
- 16:53gotta get up and get pop from here. You need the sunlight, you
- 16:57need this, need that, and so having them say, Okay, look
- 17:02here, come on, we going to do this today. You ain't gotta
- 17:04stay too long, but you're getting out of here. You go eat it
- 17:07today, eat it out, but you gotta eat a little bit. You
- 17:11know. Having that is really important, and I think it plays just a
- 17:15really good major effort and putting forth what is necessary for people to do that.
- 17:25What advice would you give to someone that's actually in their fight with breast
- 17:30cancer right now? What advice do you have for them? Don't go through
- 17:36it along? I mean, like like you were mentioning, support is major.
- 17:42I mean, and you and it comes from anywhere that I would get
- 17:48text messages from people I hadn't heard from in a while, social media messages,
- 17:55phone calls, I get stuff in the mail. I mean, it
- 17:59was just you know, just knowing and feeling. You know that somebody else
- 18:04is in that fight with you. Do not go through it alone. And
- 18:10especially one thing, especially for black women, you don't have to be so
- 18:17tough. Yes, exactly, yes, we are we are being we are
- 18:26Black women are dying at a higher rate than our co women mainly because we
- 18:34don't get checked out. Right, That is true. And you know,
- 18:41as we were talking earlier before we came live, the statistics now is that
- 18:48people women younger than the age of forty are being diagnosed with breast cancer.
- 18:55Now, this is my opinion on that is, ever since COVID happened and
- 19:00those vaccinations and the boosters and things of that nature, I feel like whatever
- 19:10was in it created mutations for things like if that was already in your genetic
- 19:15makeup, it multiplied that a whole lot faster. Because in my family breast
- 19:22cancer is it's in my family. And as I told you when we were
- 19:29just speaking backstage, is my very first time finding a lump. I was
- 19:33twenty three. I had just had my son, and it was something I
- 19:40was doing. And when I was in my early twenties, that was one
- 19:42of the things that I did make sure that I did monthly because it was
- 19:48in my family. And plus I had just had a new baby and I
- 19:51was breastfeeding and everything, so I wanted to, you know, try to
- 19:53make sure that I did everything to make sure that he was gonna get enough
- 19:57milk. And when I found on that one, I was like, Okay,
- 20:02look here, this wasn't here last week, So what's going on?
- 20:06So I had made an appointment with my obg y N. They went in,
- 20:12they checked me, and she was like, well, you're too young
- 20:15to have a mammogram because I was only twenty three, so we're gonna send
- 20:18you for an ultrasound. They sent me for the ultrasound ultrasound and they were
- 20:22like, oh, yeah, we're gonna just go ahead and bob see this
- 20:26because you're still too young. And then when they did that, because the
- 20:30day that I went for the ultrasound, they did the bop see in this
- 20:33literally at the same time, because it was like, yeah, we're not
- 20:37even gonna wait for a mammogram because your tissues aren't really what we need to
- 20:41be looking for, but we're just gonna go ahead and do the bop see
- 20:45now while we have you here. So do you mind? Yeah, I
- 20:49don't really mind, but gonna do what you gotta do because this is not
- 20:52where I want to because honestly, and it was also in December, so
- 20:57it was like, Okay, this is not what I want going into Christmas.
- 21:03It's not you know, how I want to spend Christmas. And they
- 21:08the funny story that goes along with that. As I was telling you,
- 21:12I call my aunts, and then I called They told my mama, and
- 21:18my mama said, girl, what's going on with your booby? I need
- 21:22to come and check it out. So my mama comes to the house and
- 21:26she's like, let me see it. So I have to show her my
- 21:29booby so she can feel it herself. And she's like, girl, I
- 21:33don't know what that is. You're gonna have to let them people check that
- 21:36out. So I went and let them check it out. They did the
- 21:40bob see. But the bad part about that experience is that when I got
- 21:45my results, the doctor took me back into the treatment room where they were
- 21:52giving cancer treatments for breast cancer and everything to tell me that I was okay.
- 21:57This was two days before for Christmas, when I got my results,
- 22:02and I was livid. I was mad as all get out, and I
- 22:08told him, I said, listen, there is a better way to deliver
- 22:14news like that. I said, you do not take a person back here
- 22:17where they're receiving treatment to tell them that they're okay. I said, that
- 22:22is the worst bedside manner as a physician that you can have. I said,
- 22:26because you have just terrified me and my family. Because I was with
- 22:30my husband at the time and my mother in law, and so we are
- 22:37thinking, oh lord, this is the worst news we're about to experience.
- 22:40And so when he told me I was okay, I showed my behind.
- 22:44I ain't even gonna lie to me. I truly did. And they was
- 22:45like, come on here, let's go and take you out of here because
- 22:48you and here acting up. I'm not acting up because that was wrong.
- 22:52He didn't have to do me like that. And you know, I said,
- 22:56look, next time you have somebody, I said, you could have
- 22:59told told me in the bathroom. You could have told me in the hallway,
- 23:02you could have told me anywhere. But in here, I said,
- 23:04that is not right. I said, because I'm looking at all of these
- 23:07people, and no, not all of them looked really sick. They whatever
- 23:11stage they were in, they still looked okay. But it's the fact of
- 23:17this is what if you're I don't know, if you're trying to prepare me
- 23:19for this is what I'm going to be dealing with or whatever. But this
- 23:23was the wrong way to deliver that news. Then, like I said,
- 23:29I had that scare at twenty three. I had another scare at thirty thirty
- 23:36three, then I had another one at the age of forty. The one
- 23:41at the age of forty really terrified me because it was right No. Thirty
- 23:48eight, it was right before my fortieth birthday. I'm used to them doing
- 23:52a biopsy on the right breast, but then they called me and tell me,
- 23:55no, they need me to come in and do it on the left
- 23:57breast. And then this is what was so scary about that, because I'm
- 24:02used to them doing the ultrasound and doing all of that. First, well,
- 24:07the technician who was doing the ultrasound, her facial expression changed, and
- 24:12so when her facial expression changed, she was like, hold on one moment,
- 24:17I'm gonna go get the doctor. So it was out of the room
- 24:21and she goes and gets the doctor. Now the doctor's doing her checking and
- 24:26everything, and her facial expression changes and her body language changes. So it's
- 24:32like, okay, So I already knew that they were gonna tell me to
- 24:34come back for the biopsy. Not a problem, not an issue because I'm
- 24:40used to that part. Now I go for my biopsy and when I get
- 24:45in there, they're already scheduled my follow up appointment. They're scheduling all of
- 24:49these and I'm like, hold on, hold on, y'all haven't done the
- 24:52biopsy yet, so why do I have a follow up appointment? And this
- 24:57is not to discuss results. This for treatment, because that's what y'all are
- 25:02telling me, because what you saw in this ultrasound. So they were like,
- 25:07well, we're gonna get another ultrasound before we even start another mammogram before
- 25:11we start with is they did the three D mammogram for a little bit more
- 25:17detail. So they do that one and then she comes in and she's like,
- 25:22we're gonna go ahead and start your biopsy. The tissue that we're looking
- 25:26at it doesn't look good. And I'm like, okay, that's fine,
- 25:32I said, but I need to know what you're singing because I don't need
- 25:37you to sugar coat nothing for me. I need you to go on and
- 25:38tell me what it is. Well, I don't want to scare you.
- 25:41What too late. You already did that when I walked in here and you
- 25:45told me I got a follow up for Friday. I said, so you
- 25:51already don't scare me. I don't want to talk about your son not wanting
- 25:53to play at the house and none, I don't cannot fun none of that.
- 25:57I need to know what we were talking about with this booby over here.
- 26:00That's what we need to talk about. And so she was like,
- 26:03you are too much. I said, I ain't being too much. I
- 26:06need to know, I said, cause y'all don't schedule something. She was
- 26:08like, well, I'm gonna rush the results and we'll see you. She
- 26:12said, I'm gonna rush them today, so expect the call. That was
- 26:18on a Tuesday. She was like, so expect a call from me by
- 26:21Friday. And I was like, well, y'all already scheduled the follow up
- 26:26for Friday, so I might as well just come on in because y'all already
- 26:29don't schedule whatever it is. When I tell you I got a phone call
- 26:34on Thursday, I was terrified. My stomach, it was in my feet.
- 26:41When I got the phone. They was like, oh, no,
- 26:42everything's fine. Don't even worry about coming to the apointment on Friday every because
- 26:48you rush your results and everything is good. And I said, well,
- 26:52thank you so much. I appreciate that. And when I tell you,
- 26:56I was outside of my kids' school waiting for them to get out. I
- 26:59was I cried like a baby in the car and they get in the car.
- 27:03You know how my boys are, what's wrong with you? I'm like,
- 27:10they just called me and told me it ain't nothing wrong with my booby.
- 27:15Okay, so why you cry? I said, you know what,
- 27:18don't even don't even worry about it. I talked to God about it later.
- 27:22Y'all. Just don't get to my mom. You just so dramatic.
- 27:26I'm not dramatic. I had every right to be in my space in that
- 27:30moment, sir. But they will tell you and they will keep you in
- 27:37suspense like that, and it's heart wrenching, you know, And I didn't
- 27:42like it, but I'm grateful that nothing has happened since. Like I had
- 27:48my my mammogram done this year, and everything with that one was good as
- 27:53well. Because my my primary character provider. I swear that man is on
- 28:00me like we we together, because he will call, hey, look here,
- 28:04have you scheduled your mam gram yet? Have you skealedled Joe paps yet?
- 28:08Sir? Sir? Wait a minute, nah, I did he talking
- 28:12about? Okay? Well, I ain't see the notes in the chart.
- 28:15Hold on, let me go and look in something else and make sure that
- 28:18you actually did, because you will tell me you did and you didn't,
- 28:19sir, I won't do that. You can go headed, yes you will,
- 28:23Yes you will, and you will go do it after the fact because
- 28:26you don't want me to fuss that you right now, so you will say,
- 28:29yeah, okay, look here, you ain't gotta tell me all my
- 28:30business like that. We ain't gotta do that just because you've been knowing me
- 28:33for so long. We ain't got to do all that. But that's how
- 28:37he does. And he's like, okay, okay, I see that you
- 28:38did. Go though I don't have nothing fuss that you were about. I'm
- 28:42like, okay, I appreciate your care and your concern. I did what
- 28:47I was supposed to, sir, Thank you. But I feel like early
- 28:52detection plays a major part. Do you agree with that? Yes, yes,
- 28:57I because I was diagnosed as stage two. It was in my left
- 29:06breast, and once they got in to do the surgery, I mean I
- 29:11had a lump back to me in twenty seventeen, they did the lump back
- 29:18to me, and then when they were in there doing everything, they also
- 29:21put die in to if it, you know, if that was the only
- 29:25place and it had spread into it was spreading into twelve of my lymph nodes,
- 29:32so they had to remove those as well. So that was why I
- 29:36was diagnosed at a stage two because they were it was showing signs that it
- 29:41was very aggressive. Okay, so I do feel like had I not had
- 29:48I not detected it, or had it not been detected early on, I
- 29:52think it would have spread quickly. And I think like when they give you
- 29:57the paper, like it gives you the b rads of one, two,
- 30:03three, and four, it gives you those stages. Now, when I
- 30:08got the biopsy right before I turned forty, the papers were saying it was
- 30:15a b RADS three and I'm like, yeah, so that was the major
- 30:22concern. So that's why I feel like me and my relationship with God,
- 30:27it was like, God, look here, I don't need that on this
- 30:32plate right now. I can't answer that. I know you think I'm a
- 30:37little strong, little somebody, but sir, I ain't gonna be able to
- 30:41do that one. I'm gonna need to take that off the list for just
- 30:44a little while. I mean, if it's meant for me, that's fine,
- 30:48but right now I just don't need that on there. Okay, you
- 30:49just gonna take that out for there. And I mean, and I really
- 30:53talked to him. I know, I was getting on his nerves and he
- 30:56was trying to put me on hold a couple of times, but I just
- 30:59alt right back. I hang up because you don't put me on hole.
- 31:02I'm on the line, Jesus, I'm gonna need you to pick it up.
- 31:03Okay, I'm gonna call you right back. You're gonna put me on
- 31:07hole, I know, but I'm gonna call you back, okay. So
- 31:10that's what we was doing. But when I went and then when they called
- 31:12me and told me that everything was fine, I knew it was only him
- 31:17that the way, because the way that they were looking was an indication that
- 31:22that's what it was. It was only him that took that away. And
- 31:27I say that because when they diagnosed me with a brain aneurism, and for
- 31:33two years it was consistent at every MRI I had, and with me constantly
- 31:38talking to him, and then that final one that I went, she was
- 31:42like, yeah, there was no findings of a brain aneurism anymore, like
- 31:48there's absolutely no trace. And I will tell you this, in that office,
- 31:56I was stone faces all get up when I got and I got to
- 32:00work because I had to go to work right after because you know me,
- 32:02I'm not gonna sit at the house. I'm gonna go to work. Regardless
- 32:06of what I feel like or not. I'm gonna go to work. You're
- 32:08gonna send me home, but I'm going to work. So I got to
- 32:12work and I my beirst friend he had called me and he was like,
- 32:16so, what did doctor say? Because I need to know. And so
- 32:20I'm telling him what the doctor said about my kiari and all of that,
- 32:23and I still had to, you know, still take it easy. I
- 32:27couldn't do the running or jumping or exercise like I was used to doing anymore
- 32:30because that was gonna aggravate my condition. So I'm learning about this condition and
- 32:36how to function with that. But I was like, they said that there
- 32:39was no trace of the brain aneurysm at all, and I just started balling.
- 32:45I could not stop. And so I'm like, okay, look here.
- 32:49I was fine in the office when she told me, don't drove all
- 32:53the way across town to come to work. Fine, not balling, not
- 32:59nothing. So I get myself together. I go into work. The optometrist
- 33:04that I was working with, she asked me and I started crying like a
- 33:07baby again, and I was like, look here, okay, I don't
- 33:10need none of y'all to ask me. That's no more. And she was
- 33:14not a hugger, but she was hugging on me that She was like,
- 33:17I don't hug nobody, but I got to hug you today because not only
- 33:22is that good news, it's the fact that you couldn't be more deserving of
- 33:28something else. And I was like, I didn't win a prize. I
- 33:30don't think you know. I'm grateful that you're feeling enough to hug on me
- 33:36today. And so I feel like when you have that relationship with him,
- 33:43he takes away what is not meant for you. It's there to test you,
- 33:47to see how you're gonna handle it, if you're gonna fold or if
- 33:52not. And I feel like your health should not be one of those things
- 33:57that you build that relationship with him. You should be along with him anyway,
- 34:00but don't wait till something happens to really go. And that's one of
- 34:07the things that I'm learning every day. And also to be very specific in
- 34:14the prayers that you pray, because you're a little vague in now, baby
- 34:20can tell you it's going to be something in there that you know, you
- 34:24didn't quite special, that you didn't want have to deal with that you were
- 34:31expecting on the other side, because I learned that lesson the hard way.
- 34:37When I say I had been praying to God and asking him for rest.
- 34:42This was before I got sick in two thousand and thirteen. I've been praying
- 34:46and I have been on vacation. And that's the crazy part. I have
- 34:49been on vacation probably about two weeks or so before that, and I was
- 34:53like, God, I'm tired. I need a break. I need some
- 34:57rest. I need I don't care what's you do or how you do it,
- 35:00but I need a break. Do you know He set me down for
- 35:04two years? Two Okay, Yeah, I lost my speech, I had
- 35:10issues with walking, all kind of stuff, and I'm like, and for
- 35:15nine months of those two years, I was pretty much in the bed,
- 35:19like it was nothing that I could do that I was used to do on
- 35:22the whole left side of my face from my face all the way down to
- 35:25my feet for twitch and my speech was affected. It was just bad.
- 35:30And it's like, Lord, okay, look here, that ain't what I
- 35:34meant. I wanted rest, But this ain't how I expected you to give
- 35:38it to me. Next time when I pray and ask for rest, I'm
- 35:42gonna be very specific in the rest that I won't because look here, that
- 35:47ain't the break and wounded Lord. That's not what I meant. But you
- 35:52taught me a lesson in that, so you know, when you want him
- 35:55to bless you ask for what you want in detail. What advice would you
- 36:02give for somebody who is struggling with building that relationship with God? Prayer,
- 36:17develop a prayer life. And most I won't say most, but a lot
- 36:22of people think that prayer is falling down on your knees. And you know,
- 36:30just like you maybe like I'll say, like we would see in church
- 36:34when we were younger. It's a conversation. It's just a conversation. Yeah,
- 36:43listen, he answers exactly. I know. I have people all the
- 36:49time. How you know, when God is talking to you, when you're
- 36:52being still and you listen, he will get loud, which he will,
- 36:57he will, yes will, he will definitely to get allowed with you.
- 37:00You don't tap you on your shoulder like three times, you just be like
- 37:05and he just gone there. Next time he come he gonna hitch up side
- 37:07the head and you're gonna be like, Okay, God, I'm listening now.
- 37:10I understand what you're saying, because Lord knows having that prayer life like
- 37:17the way that I talk to people, be like, well, you talk
- 37:21to God like that. God knows who he created. He knows exactly who
- 37:25he created. I don't have to go to him with the whole form of
- 37:30a dictionary to talk to him, because if I'm that's too formal. God
- 37:36don't need me to be formal when I'm talking to him, because he knows
- 37:39I'm gonna say something. God, look here, your child down here getting
- 37:43on my nurse. Can you come get them? Because or how you want
- 37:46me to handle him? Because today ain't today. We were going on the
- 37:52wrong street and I don't want to go on that street, but they trying
- 37:54to take me that which way you want me to go with them? So,
- 37:57you know, having that type of relationship with him, because he'd be
- 38:00telling me I look at her Gonco and said, I because you're trying to
- 38:02get in my business and I don't need you in there. You know I
- 38:06don't need you over here. You asked me for something that I'm gonna do
- 38:08it, but it's gonna be on my term. So God said, I
- 38:12quit bothering me, and I you know me, God, look here,
- 38:15I just I just got questioned, though I just got I just want So
- 38:19that's how I have learned to talk to him, because he has been so
- 38:23good to me and just being that because when I could not talk to anybody
- 38:30else, and I was at home a lot of the times by myself during
- 38:34my recovery, so I didn't have a lot of people that were close to
- 38:37help. But I did have my best friend Latanya, and her husband and
- 38:42her son would come by and check on me. Of course, I had
- 38:45the kids and my brother, but you know, being away in another state,
- 38:49you know, even though it's not too far away, he couldn't be
- 38:52there every day, and she couldn't be there every day. So while my
- 38:55kids will be away at school, I'm at the house by myself. So
- 39:00I'm having to learn how to maneuver. And so I started talking God,
- 39:04look here, I got to get up and go to the bathroom. How
- 39:06we're gonna do this because I need to get there. I don't need to
- 39:10have to change the bed clothes on the bed. I just don't need to
- 39:15do that, so how we gonna get there? And so it would just
- 39:17be those types of things, like how we gonna get there. You're gonna
- 39:22help me get off the bed, and my bed is high, so I
- 39:24got to have a step stool to get in the bed, so you know,
- 39:28of course I'm gonna have to need it to get down. So it's
- 39:30like, Okay, now I got to get to the bathroom. Okay,
- 39:34Now I got to get off the floor to get on the top because I
- 39:38either have to crawl to get to the bathroom, so now Lord, I
- 39:42got to get up. So you know, it's just that type of thing.
- 39:45So me building that relationship to him, it helped me to understand that
- 39:54God has my back like no other and as long as I got him,
- 40:00I can't never go wrong, you know, because he's the he's the captain,
- 40:05and I'm just, you know, the little passenger on the other side.
- 40:07That I'm still gonna be like God while we go down this way,
- 40:12sir, where we're going, you know, I'm still gonna do that.
- 40:15You're gonna tell me shut up my your business and you won't be in my
- 40:20business, and I don't need you to do that. But I feel like
- 40:25you have given everybody who has listened and listened tonight hope that conquer is not
- 40:34a cancer, is not a death sentence, as long as you continue to
- 40:39put God first and have your support system in place and tell people when you're
- 40:45not okay. Don't try to carry that way and that burden alone, because
- 40:51it's gonna be heavy for you on days where you don't have the strength,
- 40:54But lean on those who are there with you and say, hey, look
- 40:59to day, I'm not I'm not feeling it, I don't have it.
- 41:04What can mm hmm. I think she may have froze. I'm not sure.
- 41:31Yes, she will probably be back in just a second, but yeah,
- 41:37I I need you to come on back, and I'll tell you the
- 41:44internet it don't mind, and I'm like share like you you encouraging. Y'all
- 41:52are encouraging individuals and the intemage just be mad. But yes, she's back.
- 41:59Oh okay, what we're doing? Like, okay, it's still buffering.
- 42:02But can y'all hear me? Yes? Okay, Well I don't know
- 42:07what my screen doing because I look like a robot on my screen right now.
- 42:12But as I was saying, you know, whenever the enemy I always
- 42:16tries to do is every time I start to give something that's truly, truly
- 42:20positive, it's not gonna stop the message that I have to deliver anything,
- 42:22because even if I have to type it in the later on, it's gonna
- 42:27get hurt. Yes, whenever God wants to put his word out there and
- 42:34give it to his people, something like this, always tries to stop it.
- 42:37But what they don't realize is there's other ways to get your message out.
- 42:40And what I always say is stay out of God's business because we don't
- 42:47need to do anything but be obedient to what He's called us to do.
- 42:52But I thank you for your encouraging words to let people know that having cancer
- 42:59is not your death sentence. It is just a testimony for someone else.
- 43:05To let them know that they can get through this and they can make it
- 43:07through to the other side. Keep that support system there, keep those people
- 43:12around and those people who are just there to see if you gonna make it,
- 43:17Tell them you are because you are, you know, because those that
- 43:22need to be there and to support will be and it won't be nothing else
- 43:25for nobody else who's coming around to wait and say, well, you know,
- 43:30she was a good person. Yes she was, and she still is
- 43:32not gone by your business, you know, because you got some of those
- 43:36that they just waiting to say, well she died. No, the old
- 43:39version of her die, but there's new one that you can't touch. Baby,
- 43:44So go to talk about my yesterday, because you can't talk about my
- 43:46today knowing my tomorrow because you're not part of that. You're not in that
- 43:51chapter. Your chapter is over, So gone mind your business. Okay,
- 43:53Yes, but I thank you for being here as always. You know,
- 44:01I don't know anything other than what God has told me to do, and
- 44:05I'm gonna continue to do that. Regardless of whether my Internet is acting up.
- 44:09I'm still gonna say what I need to say. Yes, you know
- 44:14what I mean. If you know me, I'm stubborn. I'm not gonna
- 44:17be defeated. I don't care about what obstacles are thrown in my past.
- 44:22I will figure out a way. I got to climb that tree. If
- 44:25it's got to take me twelve steps to get to it, I'm gonna get
- 44:29there. But you know, I close all of my shows with stay out
- 44:34of God's business. Only thing God needs you to do is be obedient to
- 44:38what he's called you to do. So until next time, you guys,
- 44:42I will be back actually next Thursday with my little sister, Juletta Dalis,
- 44:50and we are gonna talk about entrepreneurship, motherhood, and her photography business.
- 44:54So it's gonna be a very interesting show. I have done a couple of
- 44:58photo shoots with her. One was a sisterhood photo shoot which was a couple

- 45:07interesting women in that photo shoot. So don't miss that show. It will
