- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome to another episode of Not Another Football Podcast. It's
- 0:07Speaker 1: a special edition this one. We're live and Cabrol Roig
- 0:10Speaker 1: Rosy McGuire's pub as the Swan start and they have
- 0:14Speaker 1: a fantastic guest today, Jackie. Yeah, do you want to
- 0:16Speaker 1: introduce them? Yes, it's the one and only legend Peter L.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Grant.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Yeah, how are we?
- 0:22Speaker 3: I'm fantastic all about. We're seeing news boys well being
- 0:25Speaker 3: in your company as it always is and with a
- 0:28Speaker 3: fantastic time last year. I'm sure it'll be the same
- 0:29Speaker 3: this year.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Yes, start of a long weekend, no doubt. We're going
- 0:34Speaker 1: to take you back. Obviously, when I came to the
- 0:35Speaker 1: club in ninety two, you were obviously an established player
- 0:39Speaker 1: in the team. You took me under your wing alongside
- 0:41Speaker 1: Paulmicks stay which your memories of that time.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Obviously it was a difficult time, as you know through
- 0:47Speaker 3: Celtic period they talk about six years you're going. We
- 0:51Speaker 3: didn't realize it was going to be six years with
- 0:53Speaker 3: out a trophy, but it was the start of it.
- 0:55Speaker 3: We've got to the Cup, fell against Aarburdeane and then
- 0:58Speaker 3: losing Parley's nineteen nine and that little did we know
- 1:01Speaker 3: that was the last time going to win, you know,
- 1:03Speaker 3: so it was a difficult time. But the first few years,
- 1:06Speaker 3: the good thing was those younger players like yourselves coming
- 1:09Speaker 3: in and for us that was so important, you know,
- 1:12Speaker 3: because it kept with that traditionally bringing young good fantastic players,
- 1:15Speaker 3: no good players, fantastic players coming out to the side,
- 1:18Speaker 3: and it gave us a bit of a boost because
- 1:19Speaker 3: we needed a.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Lift, you know.
- 1:21Speaker 3: And it was nice to see boys coming in that
- 1:24Speaker 3: were brought through from Celtic, you know, and which had
- 1:26Speaker 3: probably stopped a little bit after a period of time,
- 1:28Speaker 3: but it started to regenerate again, like yourself and the
- 1:31Speaker 3: Eddy and whatever, and it was very important for us.
- 1:33Speaker 3: And as I say, it probably gave us a little boost, or.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Could you kind of relate to that? Who were the
- 1:37Speaker 1: guys that kind of looked after.
- 1:39Speaker 2: You when you all?
- 1:39Speaker 3: When I come in at first, I was blessed by
- 1:41Speaker 3: the people I had had, Royeke and Danny mcgreen, Tommy Burns,
- 1:44Speaker 3: all these guys.
- 1:45Speaker 2: The team really I supported.
- 1:46Speaker 3: I broke into because I always remembered that teams like
- 1:50Speaker 3: nineteen eighty ten men won in the league. Yeah, you
- 1:52Speaker 3: know what, you can near enough get through the team,
- 1:54Speaker 3: and it was one of the ones, you know, you
- 1:56Speaker 3: did like Sae Roy Yeke and big Tom McCadam at
- 1:58Speaker 3: the center back Matt Read the left back of Danny
- 2:00Speaker 3: It right back in the midfield was David Proven. He
- 2:03Speaker 3: told me, Buns your model McCloud in Pulmic's day. Then
- 2:05Speaker 3: I came into that midfield and then you the front
- 2:08Speaker 3: two swung around around a little bit. You'd like to
- 2:11Speaker 3: fry McGarvey. Georgia just left. I came in and it
- 2:14Speaker 3: was like say Moe and Brian McLear it was saying,
- 2:16Speaker 3: and it was added to that group. So I was blessed,
- 2:19Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. And people say after that there
- 2:22Speaker 3: was even some fantastic players and that people say it
- 2:25Speaker 3: was a difficult time for Celtic, But in that difficult time,
- 2:28Speaker 3: there was still some fantastic players come through it. There
- 2:30Speaker 3: was absolutely you look at John Collins, you look at
- 2:33Speaker 3: Pierre van hoyd On, you look at Andy Tom, George
- 2:35Speaker 3: Cadetti didn't get any Celtic team in the respect to that,
- 2:38Speaker 3: you know, And I was blessed and I wouldn't change
- 2:42Speaker 3: it for the world, even though it was a tough team.
- 2:43Speaker 3: I'd love to have more medals than whatever. But they
- 2:45Speaker 3: were special players and special memory, so Danny told me
- 2:48Speaker 3: was probably the first two and Big Roy. At first
- 2:51Speaker 3: I knew the professionalism, what it meant to play for Celtic.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Toyslag you the way that you slagged me.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Probably not in the way that I did take it
- 2:58Speaker 3: to another level, you know well, but I think that
- 3:00Speaker 3: was It was a term of endearment, you know. That
- 3:04Speaker 3: was the way we always felt. If you made somebody
- 3:05Speaker 3: comfortable and they respected, they think that first. So is
- 3:08Speaker 3: he give me a hard time there? But it wasn't
- 3:09Speaker 3: that way to see if you could handle it, And
- 3:11Speaker 3: I think that was the most important thing because I
- 3:13Speaker 3: felt that at first. I was on the ground staff
- 3:16Speaker 3: for it over one hundred games after I'd made my debut,
- 3:19Speaker 3: because I didn't want to come off it. It was
- 3:21Speaker 3: me and Paul at first, Goddress John Slidden Slodie was
- 3:24Speaker 3: on it with a boy called Steade Jardin. We on
- 3:27Speaker 3: the arts taken. That was a boys. There's four us
- 3:29Speaker 3: on the sort of ground staff. I didn't want to
- 3:32Speaker 3: come off the girlfs like you need to come off
- 3:33Speaker 3: now because you're in the playing every week I'm cleaning
- 3:35Speaker 3: the players boos who weren't even playing.
- 3:37Speaker 2: But I love that.
- 3:38Speaker 3: I love getting into the dress room and getting stick
- 3:40Speaker 3: off the senior players, even though I was their teammate
- 3:43Speaker 3: and a Saturday, I was still going in to pick
- 3:45Speaker 3: their kitt up and clean their boots. And people called
- 3:48Speaker 3: me the janitor because I was first on the last
- 3:50Speaker 3: to leave at that particular team. But I knew one
- 3:52Speaker 3: day would come an end. I even knew that even
- 3:54Speaker 3: at the start of my career.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Did you say that that you played. Were you playing
- 3:57Speaker 1: one hundred games in the result before you got.
- 3:59Speaker 3: To the first No, I'd actually played one hundred games
- 4:02Speaker 3: in the first team when I was still on the
- 4:03Speaker 3: ground start, you know, because it was one of the ones,
- 4:06Speaker 3: you know, because the gaffer was trying to take off
- 4:07Speaker 3: and I said, gaff, I've really like doing this. I enjoy
- 4:09Speaker 3: going and cleaning the boots and all that. And it
- 4:11Speaker 3: wasn't just the cleaning their boots. It was the fact
- 4:13Speaker 3: that I have in the banner and address room, as
- 4:15Speaker 3: you say, which makes you feel part of it, you know.
- 4:18Speaker 3: God dressed nearly walking an absolutely Celtic legend when low
- 4:22Speaker 3: people had turned the socks inside out, or if they
- 4:24Speaker 3: bought the socks or their pants were inside out, he
- 4:27Speaker 3: would leave them and they'll pick them up tomorrow. And
- 4:29Speaker 3: it was all these disciplines you didn't know at the time.
- 4:32Speaker 3: They were setting you in good stead foreving and for
- 4:34Speaker 3: the rest of my life I've lived with him, you know,
- 4:36Speaker 3: small details like that, you know, and it was so
- 4:38Speaker 3: so important for me. That's why I love you, know.
- 4:40Speaker 1: That, because we've been rooming with you since. And the
- 4:42Speaker 1: first time you did when you got here was go
- 4:43Speaker 1: to the shops and get all the message.
- 4:45Speaker 3: But I've seen you send them out, you know, you
- 4:46Speaker 3: send me out with the list. No, go and get
- 4:47Speaker 3: the bread, go and get the milk. I couldn't have
- 4:49Speaker 3: enough to come on back. I was coming back with
- 4:51Speaker 3: their bage list. But no, I think it was good habits,
- 4:53Speaker 3: you know, And I think that's things that live. People
- 4:56Speaker 3: talk about the football. The football was brilliant and it
- 4:59Speaker 3: was difficult. Tommy once come out with a great saying
- 5:01Speaker 3: probably one of the times they said playing for Celtic,
- 5:05Speaker 3: they said, I love it, he said, but they enjoy it.
- 5:08Speaker 3: That's a different question because there was so much pressure
- 5:11Speaker 3: goes along with it, day and day out. Represented absolutely,
- 5:15Speaker 3: and I still think to this day, as yous guys
- 5:18Speaker 3: do we represent all the time? People will remember you
- 5:20Speaker 3: Jackie mckamar Simon, Donny Is Celtic. I forget other clubs
- 5:24Speaker 3: you played for. They'll always remember you Is and for
- 5:26Speaker 3: me that's a fantastic accolade. And coming over to a
- 5:29Speaker 3: place like Cabro Roy and getting invited Celtic supporters functions,
- 5:33Speaker 3: it obviously pinches you times because you think, well, the
- 5:35Speaker 3: hell I was lucky to play there, and to this
- 5:37Speaker 3: day I still feel blessed and lucky.
- 5:39Speaker 1: You're that long away if the Celtic like me and Jackie,
- 5:42Speaker 1: but yeah, you still get places. The last one year
- 5:44Speaker 1: to come over, I was unbelievable.
- 5:46Speaker 3: I was away twenty eight years there enough, but every
- 5:49Speaker 3: place I went, I was in Bourne Mouth, I've been
- 5:52Speaker 3: in London, I've been in Norwedge. All these Celtic supporters
- 5:55Speaker 3: clubs rumbled down, all Celtic supporters clubs, you know, it's
- 5:58Speaker 3: quite incredible actually, and people don't realize how big this
- 6:01Speaker 3: club is. And I keep saying to anybody with probably
- 6:04Speaker 3: Manchester NATed. Nobody plays under the pressure that Celtic Rangers
- 6:08Speaker 3: to be fair rangers. Players do, Yeah, because I think
- 6:11Speaker 3: it's a different trotty character. It's not just a footballer.
- 6:14Speaker 3: You just know that you represent footballers and you've been
- 6:16Speaker 3: footballers yourself. There's a different pressure comes along with it.
- 6:20Speaker 3: It's not, as I said, it's not just on the
- 6:21Speaker 3: football field, it's everything else that goes along with it.
- 6:24Speaker 3: And I still feel it this day that we're still
- 6:26Speaker 3: representing that. Yeah, because people that's who people recognize you as.
- 6:30Speaker 3: And you find it strange after I'm near sixty one
- 6:33Speaker 3: now and I think it's kind's strange you're walking down
- 6:35Speaker 3: the street and people still hope here and whatever. I'll
- 6:38Speaker 3: find it weird. You should pinch yourself at times, but
- 6:40Speaker 3: so proud of that as well. And the guys have
- 6:42Speaker 3: played with the teams, were involved with the camaraderie we had.
- 6:47Speaker 2: It was so so special.
- 6:48Speaker 1: You talk about the pressure that are everything that comes
- 6:50Speaker 1: with Celtic. So after that period were eighty nine, I
- 6:54Speaker 1: think Joe Miller scores the goal in the Scottish Cup
- 6:57Speaker 1: and we don't win anything until ninety five, my first
- 7:00Speaker 1: So we're at Celtic, you were injured. Can you just
- 7:03Speaker 1: talk about the build up to that because we had
- 7:05Speaker 1: always written you off for the game. He ended up
- 7:07Speaker 1: being Man of the Match against Earthy that day.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Yeah, but we played done you needed if you remember
- 7:10Speaker 3: it Tannaday's and remember Jim McNally, who was a big
- 7:13Speaker 3: Celtic man gym and he's absolutely cemented me for the side.
- 7:17Speaker 3: And I thought my knee was gone because I had
- 7:19Speaker 3: hap to me before and I was out for four
- 7:20Speaker 3: months at the time, and I remember being distraught because
- 7:24Speaker 3: I knew it was only a couple of weeks to
- 7:25Speaker 3: the cup final. Thankfully it was two weeks. I used
- 7:27Speaker 3: to have if you remember the last league game and
- 7:29Speaker 3: then it was two weeks. It wasn't the falling Saturday
- 7:31Speaker 3: was Saturday after so that was when he took us absolute.
- 7:34Speaker 3: We went Toally. But the funny thing was a battle.
- 7:38Speaker 3: If you remember Fergus when they paid the money for
- 7:41Speaker 3: a training ground and made the training on a roundabout,
- 7:44Speaker 3: was absolutely But the funniest thing was Tommy's taming me.
- 7:48Speaker 3: So I've got a galloper on so I can't even
- 7:51Speaker 3: straighten my leg. They say about for four months, so
- 7:53Speaker 3: I'm distraught. I'm missing a cup, fed on whatever. So
- 7:55Speaker 3: we go over to there Italy. I remember Brian Scott
- 7:59Speaker 3: the visual it was a alliant physio. Brian turns across
- 8:02Speaker 3: the road. You just were training on the roundabout and
- 8:04Speaker 3: I went over to the water and opposite side of
- 8:06Speaker 3: the road, Brian dives in with through testing it and
- 8:09Speaker 3: I thought he's going to have a heart attack. It
- 8:10Speaker 3: was like water's dying and he was side and he
- 8:13Speaker 3: could not believe us. But people said, but checking water
- 8:16Speaker 3: before you get and that was something that stopped my mind.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Some siding the side my pool and I'm just struck
- 8:20Speaker 3: because I'm look, he's all along training preparing for a
- 8:22Speaker 3: Cup final. Then we get back home and it for
- 8:26Speaker 3: me'd only tained me and the fact to keep him
- 8:28Speaker 3: the group, you know, but a real fun time.
- 8:30Speaker 1: But if you still think you had no chance of
- 8:32Speaker 1: playing it that, oh no, I was done.
- 8:34Speaker 2: I was done.
- 8:34Speaker 3: They told me four months there was no way, and
- 8:36Speaker 3: I knew I had an injury before and I knew
- 8:38Speaker 3: it was four months. But you know, you have some
- 8:41Speaker 3: of these things in your mind. Sometimes you're thinking, this
- 8:44Speaker 3: is one game, and I'd always says, I mean, this
- 8:46Speaker 3: is one game. It's a gaffer gize mental opportunity. Because
- 8:50Speaker 3: I missed two Cup finals prior to miss nineteen eighty five.
- 8:53Speaker 3: I missed the eighty eight Cup final and they broke
- 8:55Speaker 3: my foot calf strain, and eighty the one hundredth Cup
- 8:59Speaker 3: final was nineteen eighty five, and then we get to
- 9:02Speaker 3: the Cup and I played not predominantly all the games.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Then I missed this.
- 9:05Speaker 3: I'm thinking in eighty six, per the year they won
- 9:08Speaker 3: the league, I'd missed probably three or four weeks prior
- 9:10Speaker 3: to the St.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Mum game.
- 9:12Speaker 3: I got on the bench against Mobile prior to this
- 9:16Speaker 3: is unbelievable. Any time that's going to a big game,
- 9:17Speaker 3: playing all the games bill not but I'm going to
- 9:19Speaker 3: miss another one. But the bizarre thing it was about
- 9:22Speaker 3: Tanna Dice was I'm distraught, so being stretched off him
- 9:25Speaker 3: in the room. As you remember Tanna Ice was a
- 9:27Speaker 3: small dress room. The supporters you could hear them outside.
- 9:29Speaker 3: We played well that day, we won the game. I'm distraught,
- 9:32Speaker 3: and I remember TV COM I never had a team
- 9:34Speaker 3: talk after it. He never said that would And I
- 9:37Speaker 3: could see his face about ash and I'm side in
- 9:39Speaker 3: my hands and I remember looking up to him. I
- 9:41Speaker 3: could see tears in his eyes. And this is bizarre.
- 9:44Speaker 3: The thing is I say, right, we've got to take
- 9:46Speaker 3: you back to the hospital. We need to take your
- 9:47Speaker 3: to hospital. Wag it down the stair, but Tommy's borrowed
- 9:50Speaker 3: a car of someone and I get it. The I've
- 9:53Speaker 3: been down the stairs. The hook up me down the stairs.
- 9:56Speaker 3: I go down there. Tommy's in the driver's seat.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Well what was that?
- 10:00Speaker 3: And he's got this seat back next to him here,
- 10:02Speaker 3: so that's lying back like a stretcher. He's like in here,
- 10:06Speaker 3: say I'll take your hospital. So he drives me all
- 10:08Speaker 3: the way down to Glasgow and it was a bonce
- 10:11Speaker 3: of cure maybe at that particular time. So I got
- 10:13Speaker 3: down there and Tommy's in tears in the car and
- 10:16Speaker 3: I'm sobbing. I'm sobbing. I'm my Celtic kittling in the
- 10:19Speaker 3: car and I'm sobbing. I said, just can't believe it,
- 10:21Speaker 3: He said, anybody but you. And because he knew what
- 10:23Speaker 3: I'd been through, because we were friends before he was
- 10:26Speaker 3: a manager. I was very close to him and Rosemary
- 10:28Speaker 3: god rest her Or and Rain. We're very close and
- 10:30Speaker 3: spoke every day. But we used to go and holiday
- 10:32Speaker 3: and all this. But when he became the manager, I
- 10:35Speaker 3: tend of stepped back for I never I spoke to
- 10:37Speaker 3: him less than that two years and I've done in
- 10:38Speaker 3: my life. That night, I just thought I had to
- 10:41Speaker 3: stop this, you know because and I phoned the one
- 10:43Speaker 3: need to see it to him, I said, listen, we're
- 10:45Speaker 3: great force. No you don't eat you. I said, you're
- 10:48Speaker 3: the gaff and I'm going to give you that respect.
- 10:50Speaker 3: Billerrain and Rosemary still spoke every day, thankfully, because what
- 10:54Speaker 3: I am was after that begin to see the hospital.
- 10:56Speaker 3: The doctor says this four months minimal.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Your done.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Alegment your knee at four months. So I'm in pieces.
- 11:04Speaker 3: I'm in pieces. I go home that night just to
- 11:06Speaker 3: straw and it was. It was probably the most of
- 11:08Speaker 3: our being in my life because we went so long
- 11:10Speaker 3: without winning the trophy. Now that's because I Missay Throbs.
- 11:13Speaker 3: Even I thought it was a bad day and I've
- 11:15Speaker 3: missed that through suspecise.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Think about nowadays, I was the success.
- 11:18Speaker 2: But yeah, six.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Seals was long.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Absolutely, it was massive, and you forget probably it was
- 11:22Speaker 3: wrongly a couple of is I'd been that sexually packing
- 11:25Speaker 3: Paul myself and I remember geting to the car and
- 11:28Speaker 3: Tommy takes us and but the reason was I get
- 11:31Speaker 3: the opportunity to play in the coffee and I believe
- 11:33Speaker 3: I'm not, but he didn't come up the side of
- 11:34Speaker 3: the house. And I'm actually tackling the wall. We have
- 11:37Speaker 3: caliber on and she go was buying the car and
- 11:39Speaker 3: looks at me.
- 11:40Speaker 2: It's that what you do? She can?
- 11:42Speaker 3: She give me heart and listen, this feels okay. And
- 11:45Speaker 3: I've phoned the gaffer and I see him. Gaffer, listen,
- 11:47Speaker 3: you're not going to believe us. I've been tackling the
- 11:49Speaker 3: waller day and I feel all right, and he's like,
- 11:52Speaker 3: so his ball accounts. He phoned learning that night. He said, listen,
- 11:55Speaker 3: we're going to let him train. We know he's going
- 11:57Speaker 3: to fail. There's no chance, you know all of this
- 11:59Speaker 3: so stuff. So the next day again, first time, Tommy's
- 12:03Speaker 3: doing an exercise that it's going to show up mee.
- 12:06Speaker 3: So it's like sidefoot passing. And I could not even
- 12:08Speaker 3: turn my leg to the site. So it was like
- 12:10Speaker 3: sidefoot passing. But then he did wrap it. And know
- 12:13Speaker 3: that or word, you've got to wrap it and if
- 12:14Speaker 3: it catches outside of the foot, you're loss. So the
- 12:17Speaker 3: first both came in, I swear to god, I was
- 12:19Speaker 3: like pulling teeth and I'm like, oh, I better no maker,
- 12:22Speaker 3: because I'm thinking to myself, I better not even gramas here.
- 12:24Speaker 3: So it was all prepared in my mind. So after training,
- 12:27Speaker 3: says how are you feeling? I said, great, feel good,
- 12:30Speaker 3: feel good. I know bad at all? So I was fine.
- 12:33Speaker 3: We were off the next day, so it gave me
- 12:35Speaker 3: a little bit of time. You settled down. I was
- 12:36Speaker 3: in for treatment, a little bit of settled down. Phone
- 12:39Speaker 3: is laying that, and I said, listen, he's strung. You know,
- 12:43Speaker 3: we're going to let him fail. He's going to turn
- 12:45Speaker 3: up and say I can't do this.
- 12:47Speaker 2: You know.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Next day again, turn the exercise. And I went through
- 12:52Speaker 3: training so I can start saying, say you now you
- 12:55Speaker 3: feel that she got good?
- 12:56Speaker 2: Feel good?
- 12:56Speaker 3: Yeahful like you know. But he never gave me a
- 12:58Speaker 3: definitive I had nothing like that. But on the Thursday
- 13:02Speaker 3: evening he phones me to the house and he says,
- 13:04Speaker 3: what you're thinking, and I knew for I went that
- 13:08Speaker 3: I feel all right, I feel good or whatever. I went,
- 13:10Speaker 3: I feel brilliant, I feel brilliant, I'm ready, I'm fit.
- 13:14Speaker 3: I went, Okay, you're playing. You see, I'm going in
- 13:17Speaker 3: the team of water and you're playing. And I went
- 13:19Speaker 3: that's good now for me. I shall won't let you down,
- 13:20Speaker 3: I said, I wouldn't they did that to you. I
- 13:22Speaker 3: shall know let you do. Marty Hearts. I was gonna
- 13:25Speaker 3: be a bit worried, concerned, you know, because I don't know.
- 13:27Speaker 3: You get a tackle on the first one, say it's good,
- 13:30Speaker 3: and I was concerned. And to be fair, Scotty done brilliant.
- 13:33Speaker 3: I don't know if you if you ever watch a
- 13:34Speaker 3: team line up when they go out and I'll get
- 13:37Speaker 3: the tracksuit tops on, you look at my leg, my
- 13:39Speaker 3: legs like as if it's a it's strookie. Scott has
- 13:41Speaker 3: put all this tape on then. But I could not
- 13:43Speaker 3: even bend it. But this was a false ligament. That's
- 13:45Speaker 3: what they're doing. They're putting a false liment on it.
- 13:48Speaker 3: I could not even bend my leg, I mean not
- 13:50Speaker 3: bend it.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Sorry. There's a part of that game though, near the end.
- 13:55Speaker 1: I think that you track back and she just saw
- 13:57Speaker 1: the build up that you're talking about there. So I
- 13:59Speaker 1: didn't even know, but so the build up that just
- 14:01Speaker 1: epitomize it. And it was a motion.
- 14:05Speaker 3: I remember Alan launched Nipper and Knipper was very quick obviously,
- 14:09Speaker 3: and he's right through and I don't know what something's
- 14:10Speaker 3: happening at the bike l and I've got back and
- 14:12Speaker 3: got the tackle. So I got the tackle and the
- 14:14Speaker 3: hooked the ball away. But that's my knee opened up again.
- 14:17Speaker 3: So for two and a half months, three months, I
- 14:20Speaker 3: could not even get in the car, that's how fragile
- 14:22Speaker 3: and he was. But I couldn't get in the car.
- 14:24Speaker 3: After that, I couldn't even bend my knee. But I
- 14:26Speaker 3: can still say this day, I genuinely believe because I
- 14:28Speaker 3: had missed cut Fins and Big Bully and that were
- 14:30Speaker 3: very good with me.
- 14:31Speaker 2: But they take it to the.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Last minute, and then they take my long sin and
- 14:33Speaker 3: say you know you're no fighting. I'd say I know,
- 14:35Speaker 3: and I'd be distraughted. Tommy gave me the opportunity to play.
- 14:39Speaker 3: He knew how much it was I meant to me
- 14:41Speaker 3: to play, and I say, this day, I don't think
- 14:43Speaker 3: any other management a game of that opportunity to do that.
- 14:46Speaker 3: He was desperate for me to play, and I was
- 14:48Speaker 3: desperate to play. But I think he's through. He knew
- 14:50Speaker 3: he'd live. He was a teammating men and a parlet
- 14:53Speaker 3: min He'd seen the painted went through and the cup
- 14:55Speaker 3: finals had missed and whatever, and he thought to hisself,
- 14:58Speaker 3: I'm going to give that opportunity. Maybe it was worth it.
- 15:00Speaker 3: They felt it was worth it, and hopefully on the
- 15:01Speaker 3: day it was worth it. It wasn't the greatest game, as
- 15:03Speaker 3: you know about a long shot. You win it one now,
- 15:06Speaker 3: well you see at the end of the game, people
- 15:08Speaker 3: see the tears.
- 15:08Speaker 1: That's my last memory of that. So that's my first
- 15:11Speaker 1: bit of success. I'm nineteen at the time, but that's
- 15:13Speaker 1: my when people ask me about the ninety five it's
- 15:15Speaker 1: yourself promised day, Tommy Buns, Bully start. These boys were
- 15:21Speaker 1: used to it and all the winning and it was
- 15:23Speaker 1: six years. That was the most that's in my head.
- 15:25Speaker 3: That's the biggest thing in the morning. The else, Simon
- 15:27Speaker 3: Jack was that was the biggest thing for people say
- 15:29Speaker 3: it was tears that joined me. It was just tears,
- 15:31Speaker 3: tears of relief. That was what was nothing else. It
- 15:33Speaker 3: was tears of a relief. I was an unbelievable feeling.
- 15:36Speaker 3: And you know, well, like I laughed, I drink and whatever.
- 15:39Speaker 2: That night.
- 15:40Speaker 3: I never touched it. I never touched that night because
- 15:42Speaker 3: I thought it was a Celtic player base celebrating every year,
- 15:46Speaker 3: two or three things every year. And I realized that
- 15:49Speaker 3: time that Disney work that way. You know, Disney work
- 15:51Speaker 3: that way. There's no guarantee no matter what. And I
- 15:53Speaker 3: remember saying it myself, I'm not going to ever drink
- 15:55Speaker 3: that night, and I never touched one. I just sappy
- 15:59Speaker 3: a bottle of beer. That's what I left it to
- 16:01Speaker 3: the summer in it because I wanted to remember that
- 16:03Speaker 3: feeling and how it felt to when I get one,
- 16:05Speaker 3: because it was so so destroying.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Because that was that was the heart. Comic stays advice
- 16:10Speaker 1: to me to take the sun. And stupidly, nineteen, I
- 16:13Speaker 1: thought this was going to happen. There's only a couple one.
- 16:16Speaker 3: That's when I made my debut. My life changed completely.
- 16:19Speaker 3: I made my debut against Rangers out of nowhere. I
- 16:22Speaker 3: made my debut Eyebrocks, and my life changed completely. The
- 16:25Speaker 3: next day, you go out in the street and I
- 16:27Speaker 3: don't know if it's just because it was againstrangers. I
- 16:28Speaker 3: made my debut, but your life had changed. You're walking
- 16:31Speaker 3: down the street and people know who you are and
- 16:32Speaker 3: you can't go on public transport again. You need to
- 16:35Speaker 3: do this, I mean never had any cars, how your
- 16:38Speaker 3: life changed. But also as a Celtic player, I thought, oh,
- 16:41Speaker 3: I won the championship my first year eight five eighty six. Yeah,
- 16:45Speaker 3: you know, it was really my first season. But I
- 16:48Speaker 3: missed the end of that, as I said, a couple
- 16:49Speaker 3: a couple of injuries. I had my calf and I
- 16:52Speaker 3: managed to play the game at Paisley. Come on in
- 16:54Speaker 3: the game at Paisley. But you think, okay, well, win
- 16:56Speaker 3: trophies consisted. I'll at least one or two, as I said,
- 16:59Speaker 3: every year. But the relief that day, it was tangible
- 17:05Speaker 3: in the respect, but not only for us as players.
- 17:08Speaker 2: You probably the more, there's nobody.
- 17:10Speaker 3: Of the happiest things was Tommy's and minds that deserved
- 17:12Speaker 3: much more than he got because the way he wanted
- 17:14Speaker 3: the mind Celtic and bring players like yourselves and we
- 17:17Speaker 3: play a Celtic People say the Celtic way. Yeah, you know,
- 17:20Speaker 3: attack and full back strikers who've got that wee bit
- 17:22Speaker 3: of guile, all that sort of stuff. He wanted all
- 17:25Speaker 3: that midfield players who could pass forward but do their job.
- 17:28Speaker 3: You'd work hard as a team when.
- 17:31Speaker 4: You're talking about that the guy for sure, but you
- 17:35Speaker 4: had that and that was important for him, and it
- 17:37Speaker 4: was so so important for us because that's what Celtic
- 17:40Speaker 4: was brought and it's a traditionally Celtic, you know, and
- 17:42Speaker 4: we all know that, and that enjoyment comes from that,
- 17:45Speaker 4: but the pain it comes wait as well, and that's
- 17:47Speaker 4: why I think that particular day I always remember.
- 17:50Speaker 3: It's quite weird. Actually I didn't feel it for myself. Surprisingly,
- 17:55Speaker 3: I felt for Paul. There was my roommate for nearly
- 17:58Speaker 3: fourteen years and Tommy it was one of my best pals,
- 18:02Speaker 3: but then became my manager and it is so desperate
- 18:05Speaker 3: for them. He went Paul is the captain because I
- 18:07Speaker 3: always wanted to have my hero in mine to lift
- 18:09Speaker 3: a trophy as captain. That was so so important for
- 18:12Speaker 3: me and that's why obviously the Raythrovers giving the mister penalty,
- 18:16Speaker 3: it was so destroyed. Maybe for him, it was so
- 18:19Speaker 3: destroying for me because I know how much it meant
- 18:21Speaker 3: to him and we've been pals for so long whatever,
- 18:23Speaker 3: So that Cup final that day was special for that
- 18:26Speaker 3: Tommy as a manager, and it was just unfortunate we
- 18:29Speaker 3: lost one game in the league and we don't win
- 18:31Speaker 3: the league.
- 18:32Speaker 1: I wanted to touch on that so obviously ninety five
- 18:35Speaker 1: was that the Scottish Cup win and then obviously TV
- 18:37Speaker 1: brings in the Boys from Hood was the first one
- 18:40Speaker 1: Andy tom the can you George Cadet? That was for me.
- 18:45Speaker 1: I was lucky enough to win the league in ninety eight,
- 18:46Speaker 1: but that for me was one of the most exciting
- 18:48Speaker 1: teams I played in that year. Talking about the one defeat,
- 18:53Speaker 1: but I never lost the game exactly, and it's.
- 18:58Speaker 3: Quite bizarre because I was excited going to the games
- 19:01Speaker 3: as a player. I felt like a punter going to
- 19:03Speaker 3: the games again. You know, I was driving along the
- 19:05Speaker 3: London road as were dead and we went into the
- 19:07Speaker 3: old School in parkder Cars and that was outside.
- 19:10Speaker 2: We were the only team. You know, it's only.
- 19:12Speaker 3: Celtic team that's ever got a standing evasion the end
- 19:14Speaker 3: of the season for wanting nothing. But I still think
- 19:17Speaker 3: that was Tommy said the ball rolling for what's happening.
- 19:20Speaker 3: That's what I feel, genuinely. You know, there was a
- 19:22Speaker 3: lot of work to be done, but I genuinely felt
- 19:24Speaker 3: at that particular time he set the ball rolling. This
- 19:27Speaker 3: is the Celtic traditions, this is what's expected of when
- 19:30Speaker 3: you played Celtic football clubs. You have to win trophies,
- 19:32Speaker 3: You have to excite the fans, you have to have
- 19:34Speaker 3: shots and times, you have to get crosses, and you
- 19:36Speaker 3: have to go and tackle all these things. And he
- 19:38Speaker 3: tried to bring and it shows you. You talk about
- 19:40Speaker 3: the big guys that came, they were all fantastic. The
- 19:44Speaker 3: Cano excited me turning up to play along them, even
- 19:49Speaker 3: though he was the screwleers. But he was nan you knowmate,
- 19:54Speaker 3: Tommy shoved to the side.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Paul, do you end up the season?
- 19:59Speaker 3: He couldn't English near Kadat difficult one and Tommy's and
- 20:03Speaker 3: you need to learn them about Celtak and all that
- 20:05Speaker 3: sort of stuff. And he was a brilliant I loved
- 20:08Speaker 3: him to bits, I really did. But he was a special,
- 20:11Speaker 3: special player. You talk about Canton, that man united, that
- 20:15Speaker 3: was the canal for Celtic. Somebody's built for that arena.
- 20:18Speaker 3: That's what he was built for.
- 20:20Speaker 2: You know.
- 20:20Speaker 3: The bigger the game, the bigger the occasion, you get
- 20:23Speaker 3: the chest out, the gold abordeen and the gold boots.
- 20:26Speaker 2: I'm getting them dogs.
- 20:27Speaker 3: Abuse before, but now say you better play well in
- 20:29Speaker 3: it because it's the gold boots on the snore and
- 20:30Speaker 3: all that. I said you've better have a good name.
- 20:32Speaker 3: I said, I'd love to be playing against you had,
- 20:34Speaker 3: but you all over the park. But he pulls one
- 20:36Speaker 3: of the on the goal, he goes out of the net,
- 20:38Speaker 3: you know. The night that George scores the Abourdeen game
- 20:41Speaker 3: five five, the fact that five hour game, it was
- 20:44Speaker 3: one of the games. If you said everybody was above
- 20:47Speaker 3: an eight in that particular match, everybody played well above,
- 20:50Speaker 3: you know, and it was a fantastic performise. But the
- 20:53Speaker 3: noise in the stadium was unbelievable, even though part of
- 20:56Speaker 3: it wasn't done. The noise was unbelievable. Radio five is
- 21:00Speaker 3: blue off their George scores his goal, and I just
- 21:03Speaker 3: think that group had it, and I genuinely do. There
- 21:05Speaker 3: was certain instance hard but because people talk about controversy
- 21:08Speaker 3: this season, God a mighty you talk about controversies this season.
- 21:11Speaker 3: I mean, George never played for five games, you know,
- 21:14Speaker 3: and it was found to be proven because the man
- 21:17Speaker 3: lost his job, so.
- 21:19Speaker 2: It was proven. But they were unbelievable, but you could
- 21:23Speaker 2: sense the support us.
- 21:25Speaker 3: The biggest thing I'll take for that particular season in
- 21:28Speaker 3: that particular group was fans were so excited to come
- 21:31Speaker 3: and see the team, what.
- 21:33Speaker 1: They're watching, what was entertaining, That's what I'm saying. Like
- 21:36Speaker 1: I get as many Celtic supporters come up to me
- 21:38Speaker 1: talking about that season as I do when we won it. Yeah,
- 21:41Speaker 1: it was later because it's unprinted in their heads. Yeah,
- 21:44Speaker 1: it was exciting and good to watch. And I felt
- 21:46Speaker 1: that playing in the team's one hundred.
- 21:48Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. That's what I'm saying, said that
- 21:50Speaker 3: I was turning up and you know, excited to go
- 21:52Speaker 3: and play the way I felt as a supporter company
- 21:55Speaker 3: watches great Celtic teams, That's the way I felt as
- 21:57Speaker 3: a player. I can't e wait to Ganny whom I
- 22:00Speaker 3: should we go on to win way sort of thing.
- 22:01Speaker 3: You know, we drew a few games we shouldn't. I
- 22:03Speaker 3: drew obviously missed a few chances for certain incidents happen.
- 22:06Speaker 3: But listen, that was meant to be. I have no
- 22:08Speaker 3: complain about it. I'd say people said about that decision. Listen,
- 22:12Speaker 3: I was meant to be and I have no complaints
- 22:14Speaker 3: about that. That was my time there and I love
- 22:16Speaker 3: to win more trophies. I had such a special bond
- 22:19Speaker 3: that use guys. But the rest of the guys that
- 22:20Speaker 3: have played along way, and I'm blessed to say they're
- 22:22Speaker 3: still pals of mine. Now, that's the biggest thing that
- 22:25Speaker 3: you built for that team. Were real good team. We're
- 22:29Speaker 3: real good friends, and we're real good friends. Would followed
- 22:32Speaker 3: each other. They've seen it in the dress room. People
- 22:33Speaker 3: talk about the dress room and arguments. Now, god it mighty,
- 22:36Speaker 3: I said, only seem good job. There's no cameras nor day.
- 22:39Speaker 3: I respect absolutely the arguments of the fights, but it
- 22:42Speaker 3: was forgot about within two seconds. If you remember, used
- 22:45Speaker 3: to go ind of the bottles of beer as we
- 22:46Speaker 3: come off the picture, there was six crates a lagger sitting.
- 22:49Speaker 3: You take a bottle of being sitt down. The managers
- 22:51Speaker 3: get your dogs of this. Now they're getting all these
- 22:53Speaker 3: shakes and everything like that. But that built everything round
- 22:56Speaker 3: about us. You know, I think that built everything round
- 22:58Speaker 3: about is and mad is the guys were. And I
- 23:01Speaker 3: also think it continues on to this day. When you're
- 23:03Speaker 3: in talking about your among Celtic supporters, what you're representing,
- 23:06Speaker 3: talking to them about the games, they bring up, they
- 23:09Speaker 3: talk about times, day periods, they talk about work that year,
- 23:12Speaker 3: and that fills me prayed. Even though we never won.
- 23:16Speaker 2: I love to one more. There's no getting away from that.
- 23:18Speaker 3: People saying made you rather played put on one thing
- 23:20Speaker 3: for sure, But I love to have more badges. But yeah,
- 23:24Speaker 3: I don't think I could replace the time I had,
- 23:27Speaker 3: you know, the feeling I had, the enjoyment I had
- 23:29Speaker 3: to playing with the guys everyone. I don't think I
- 23:32Speaker 3: ever thought people listen, I had hate to be in
- 23:35Speaker 3: my teammate because you know yourself, I was a moaning
- 23:37Speaker 3: face on the training pitch, on the pitch the point
- 23:42Speaker 3: that they said, but on the pitch and in training,
- 23:46Speaker 3: I was a moaning face. Get and I had hated
- 23:48Speaker 3: to play with me, you know, because I oh, you
- 23:51Speaker 3: know what I mean. But that was the way I
- 23:52Speaker 3: was because it got be going. If you understand it
- 23:55Speaker 3: wasn't even criticize anybody else. But also knew that was
- 23:58Speaker 3: part of my strength. I knew for signing had to
- 24:00Speaker 3: be a new but you had to be Jack. I
- 24:01Speaker 3: could organize. So I mean, if I looked after the
- 24:03Speaker 3: bench manager shouting us off the bench, I never heard
- 24:06Speaker 3: the manager.
- 24:06Speaker 2: I never even you a manager was there.
- 24:08Speaker 3: You know, Noney has looked off because when you and
- 24:10Speaker 3: your head what her job was and I think that's
- 24:12Speaker 3: the biggest thing I could say all that group of
- 24:15Speaker 3: players for other boys that came through, there was some
- 24:17Speaker 3: fantastic players and that painted even though trophy wise it
- 24:21Speaker 3: was Beare, it was some fastic, fantastic players and fantastic times.
- 24:26Speaker 3: More importantly, and I sitting there the day because of that,
- 24:29Speaker 3: because there's still a close bond. You would do anything
- 24:32Speaker 3: for anybody. Somebody phones will be there to help you whatever,
- 24:35Speaker 3: and I think that's more important. And that's when people
- 24:38Speaker 3: talk about the Celtic family or whatever. People don't understand
- 24:41Speaker 3: it's not just a thing I throw lightly.
- 24:43Speaker 2: You know.
- 24:43Speaker 3: People will say to need the Celtic support as a
- 24:46Speaker 3: twelfth man, I would say, it's the first man. His
- 24:48Speaker 3: name's in the back coming go, manager's coming here. Supporters
- 24:52Speaker 3: are always there. Is the great Tommy Buncey, you know,
- 24:55Speaker 3: and it's fact. Here's no getting away from that. But
- 24:57Speaker 3: to represent that, you've got to remember that, and it
- 25:00Speaker 3: takes a special type of character. I got a lot
- 25:02Speaker 3: of criticism. It wasn't easy to get in the pitch sometimes,
- 25:05Speaker 3: it wasn't easy got about your bed at times because
- 25:07Speaker 3: of the criticism way heavy at times. But you had to,
- 25:11Speaker 3: you know, and I think that's what separates us. You know,
- 25:14Speaker 3: sometimes you've got to keep going and hopefully it makes
- 25:16Speaker 3: you something special in the rest of your life, not
- 25:18Speaker 3: just as a football but as a person.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:20Speaker 1: On that note, then, so ninety eight you left the
- 25:23Speaker 1: club in ninety eight, what was your feelings end? I
- 25:26Speaker 1: remember we were in Holland, weren't they. Yeah, it just
- 25:28Speaker 1: take me.
- 25:29Speaker 3: I'd made a decision. I'd already agreed to go to
- 25:31Speaker 3: Wolves really before I went pre season. Haven't been agreed
- 25:34Speaker 3: personal terms, how sustained everything Mark McGee's minds at the time.
- 25:38Speaker 3: Flew back home and then Marp's phone must have get
- 25:41Speaker 3: cut off because I flew back and that was the
- 25:43Speaker 3: conversation went dead. And that was Henrik had just arrived
- 25:49Speaker 3: and I remember going, we've going to play Hubs. I
- 25:53Speaker 3: hadn't been at the training ground because mans had fell down.
- 25:55Speaker 3: I hadn't been in at the train ground. So I'm
- 25:56Speaker 3: in the house waiting to go to Wolves. Game comes.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Celtic lose the game one. Now I got a phone
- 26:03Speaker 3: calling the way back for one. I'm saying that you
- 26:06Speaker 3: need and I don't know if you're a member. It's
- 26:08Speaker 3: quite bizarre. Actually played Parma and a friendly.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Yeah that was a start. That was after the starting
- 26:14Speaker 1: in the Parama game.
- 26:15Speaker 3: But after the start and I played Parma and he
- 26:19Speaker 3: told me after he said I would like you to stay.
- 26:22Speaker 3: I said no, No, I said, I've made my mind up.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Celtic meeting move forward. You just need to replace Peter Grant,
- 26:26Speaker 3: I said, Celtic and I've already made my mind up.
- 26:29Speaker 3: But there was no boss rule and then so we
- 26:31Speaker 3: Fergus was the usual was want to hold on and
- 26:33Speaker 3: ended up getting at four hundred grand for us. But
- 26:36Speaker 3: after in fact, there was a game said you scored
- 26:38Speaker 3: the goal against St. Johnson in the cup game up week,
- 26:42Speaker 3: so he said to me in the middle, he said,
- 26:44Speaker 3: you're you're going to be part of us, and he
- 26:45Speaker 3: said I'd love you. You're saying because you're different to
- 26:47Speaker 3: what I've got. They said, you play for me, I said,
- 26:49Speaker 3: I said, I hope this season. I said, but I
- 26:52Speaker 3: couldn't set up the stair at any time. I couldn't
- 26:54Speaker 3: be sitting on your bench. I need to play him, no,
- 26:57Speaker 3: I saw, but I'm no, somebody can sit in the stand.
- 26:59Speaker 3: I'm I didn't know that. Do you do you regret
- 27:01Speaker 3: that because obviously went want to win the league. That
- 27:04Speaker 3: yet no, no, no, no, because I Celtic needed to
- 27:07Speaker 3: move forward and become champions again.
- 27:09Speaker 2: I need to do.
- 27:09Speaker 3: Celtic need to get ready pier Grant, and I don't
- 27:11Speaker 3: mean that disrespect for myself. The team had to move
- 27:14Speaker 3: all a change and I felt that, and to be fair,
- 27:18Speaker 3: I was swaying. When one came again. He was like,
- 27:20Speaker 3: I need you. They said you're different, that we organizing
- 27:23Speaker 3: the pitch and mother because I played really well in
- 27:24Speaker 3: the part of my game and my last was his
- 27:28Speaker 3: number two. Play with that and d was a fantastic man.
- 27:33Speaker 3: And I remember we played Saint Johnson Midba, I'm putting
- 27:36Speaker 3: you on the bench. I went, okay, and he put
- 27:40Speaker 3: me on. But the biggest thing was before not that
- 27:42Speaker 3: the Celtic fans behind the goal or chant my name,
- 27:45Speaker 3: which I don't mean it, DiPT It was unusual they
- 27:48Speaker 3: were singing my name or whatever, and I felt so
- 27:50Speaker 3: emotional because they were talking to me leaving and I
- 27:52Speaker 3: felt so emotional about it. We won a game one
- 27:55Speaker 3: now you scored the goal and one said to me
- 27:57Speaker 3: after it, you know, not having any second whatever. I said, No,
- 28:01Speaker 3: I said, I've told job Brown who it was to tell.
- 28:04Speaker 3: I said to Joe, let me know if anybody comes in.
- 28:06Speaker 3: I said, I don't know if this would thing's going
- 28:08Speaker 3: to happen. I said, I'm probably going to pull it myself.
- 28:11Speaker 3: Never made anything else because I've know the phone callar
- 28:13Speaker 3: flew home and I've not had I said, so I'm
- 28:15Speaker 3: ready to knock in the head. Next thing is again.
- 28:17Speaker 3: I went in the next day and I got off.
- 28:19Speaker 3: You said you got a deal off. The Morris had
- 28:21Speaker 3: been in every day. I went no, I.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Said, I'll come in and do it a wee back
- 28:23Speaker 2: in the gym or whatever.
- 28:24Speaker 3: So I went in next day and I remember them
- 28:26Speaker 3: coming in and he said, then Joe Brown White, we said, listen,
- 28:30Speaker 3: you told me to keep you informed the teams.
- 28:31Speaker 2: It's interested.
- 28:32Speaker 1: We said, it was the.
- 28:33Speaker 3: Phone called knowledge. If I agreed a fee, I know
- 28:37Speaker 3: you'll probably not want to speak to them. I want
- 28:39Speaker 3: I do, and to be fair, it strended the car
- 28:44Speaker 3: I went was funny. It was funny at first. I
- 28:46Speaker 3: got up off I was doing set ups and I
- 28:48Speaker 3: almost remember it and I went, want to be Angie, godressed,
- 28:51Speaker 3: I want to be Angie and I said him, Can
- 28:52Speaker 3: I get my boots? S all right, car aunty sounds,
- 28:54Speaker 3: where are you going? I said, I'm playing fives a night.
- 28:56Speaker 3: I picked my boots up, put them in the car,
- 28:59Speaker 3: and I remember driving down kerry Dale Street, looking back
- 29:04Speaker 3: my mirror and seeing Celtic Football Club. I was sobbing
- 29:08Speaker 3: because in my heart hearts that was me done. I
- 29:10Speaker 3: was thinking, this is my last time here. I'm locoming
- 29:13Speaker 3: back to this groove all the way to knowledge. Didn't
- 29:16Speaker 3: know what knowledge was getting down there at half past
- 29:19Speaker 3: three in the morning, and there reason a sight for
- 29:21Speaker 3: knowledge before anybody you was. The manager was Mike Walker.
- 29:25Speaker 3: Mike was sitting at a hotel still at half past three,
- 29:28Speaker 3: waiting to make him money, and I thought he wants me,
- 29:32Speaker 3: and I went in there and I've done an exercise
- 29:35Speaker 3: to touch my toes. The next morning.
- 29:36Speaker 2: That was That was actual medical done.
- 29:42Speaker 3: And then I was a knowledge player before anybody knew
- 29:45Speaker 3: because the phone You never had mobiles really at that time,
- 29:48Speaker 3: but the phone was blowing up everywhere and everybodys which
- 29:50Speaker 3: I'm here, there's Peter Grant down there. And I made
- 29:53Speaker 3: my debut that Saturday for Knowledge at thirty two years aage,
- 29:57Speaker 3: but it broke my heart. But I knew I was
- 29:58Speaker 3: leaving there. But one of the happiest times was is
- 30:01Speaker 3: you exactly what you spoke about?
- 30:03Speaker 2: Me?
- 30:03Speaker 3: And big Ewn Roberts, big Welsh and a national big
- 30:05Speaker 3: Ewn first season had finished a week.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Before the Celtics season.
- 30:09Speaker 3: I'm more up for the last game of the season,
- 30:12Speaker 3: could continue to win the league. Oh so I'm sitting
- 30:15Speaker 3: at director's box of big ew and Roberts. People say,
- 30:19Speaker 3: do you feel a bit disappointed you on the part? No,
- 30:21Speaker 3: I didn't. I just felt elated being a Celtic supporter
- 30:24Speaker 3: and for all of the guys. I knew winning the
- 30:27Speaker 3: championship again obviously stopped being just winning ten and obviously helped.
- 30:31Speaker 3: But the fact that we were up there, I felt
- 30:34Speaker 3: so proud.
- 30:36Speaker 2: No negative.
- 30:37Speaker 3: You know, sometimes people go in for you, I hope
- 30:39Speaker 3: they lose. I was a complete opposite because I was
- 30:42Speaker 3: a supporter and I was fortunate that way, and I
- 30:44Speaker 3: was so proud of the guys on the pitch. I
- 30:46Speaker 3: didn't know some of them. I didn't know some of them.
- 30:48Speaker 3: I knew most of them, but I didn't know some
- 30:49Speaker 3: of them. But I was so proud to be a
- 30:51Speaker 3: Celtic supporter and the fact that Celtic were back winning
- 30:54Speaker 3: trophies again, and I was the lighter Philix who women
- 30:56Speaker 3: muddle on fortun it didn't last that long. We women
- 30:59Speaker 3: mudo one was brilliant and it was fabulous. Yeah, it
- 31:05Speaker 3: was fabulous, you know, but I never ever felt, you know,
- 31:08Speaker 3: that negative feel you would probably have in your stomach.
- 31:10Speaker 2: I was a complete opposite. I felt like a kid
- 31:12Speaker 2: at Christmas.
- 31:13Speaker 3: But their team would want the league again and all
- 31:15Speaker 3: us guys were having that smell on your feet because
- 31:17Speaker 3: I felt that way. And I'm anty Glasgow after I
- 31:19Speaker 3: remember my car near enough getting carried into Glasgow. Big
- 31:22Speaker 3: You and Roberts couldn't believe it. The punters were in
- 31:25Speaker 3: my car and everything that as if I'd played in
- 31:27Speaker 3: the game. You know, I probably cost him the one
- 31:30Speaker 3: that six years of the bounds. But it was special,
- 31:33Speaker 3: special memories and that's that's what it meant to me,
- 31:35Speaker 3: you know. And then obviously after that you become a
- 31:38Speaker 3: supporter from Afar and it was amazing. When I went
- 31:41Speaker 3: to England, it was quite incredible. Like every place I thought,
- 31:44Speaker 3: I mean every place I turned up to, people were
- 31:46Speaker 3: outside the Celtic scarves, so on asking you saying certain things,
- 31:50Speaker 3: and then that was a wee better realization came in
- 31:52Speaker 3: how much that club means to people everywhere I went,
- 31:56Speaker 3: I mean everywhere I went, they'd be hundreds of times,
- 31:59Speaker 3: sometimes self never the game, on the game or whatever.
- 32:02Speaker 3: And really that was probably the first time it really
- 32:06Speaker 3: sinks in because when you're in amongst you, everything's there
- 32:09Speaker 3: having in front of you know what you're doing. But
- 32:11Speaker 3: when you move away for you and people feel the
- 32:13Speaker 3: way they do a bit of the club, you're taking
- 32:15Speaker 3: standing backs. Well, how fortunate enough I was going to
- 32:18Speaker 3: be there for that period day time, and that's why
- 32:20Speaker 3: I say I would never been negative about that period,
- 32:22Speaker 3: even though I wasn't a great success, but I loved
- 32:25Speaker 3: every moment off it.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Well, even a great teammate. You've been a brilliant guest
- 32:29Speaker 1: on the podcast. You didn't even bring up the fact
- 32:33Speaker 1: that you outscored me one season.
- 32:35Speaker 3: Appreciate that always I scored.
- 32:40Speaker 2: The gamest strangers even Well.
- 32:42Speaker 1: That's it, you go, you know the rules. You've been brilliant.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Thanks for coming on the Pleasure guys.
- 32:48Speaker 2: Anytime you know that about Pleasure
