- 1:41Speaker 5: lot of things I want to get today. It's one
- 1:43Speaker 5: of the most popular podcasts around. We're a little bit
- 1:47Speaker 5: biased because we produced the podcast, but it's called Let's
- 1:49Speaker 5: Talk and it's hosted by former NFL Great Marshall alum
- 1:52Speaker 5: proud South Charleston High grad standout athlete Carl Lee. One
- 1:56Speaker 5: of the co hosts of the show, Lisa Odie, is
- 1:58Speaker 5: going to stop by to talk about the podcast, get
- 2:00Speaker 5: to know her a little bit better, and also talk
- 2:02Speaker 5: about well, you know, some of the things that are
- 2:04Speaker 5: going on the news with her that's coming up a
- 2:05Speaker 5: little bit later. On Canawa County schools last night began
- 2:11Speaker 5: discussions on how to implement this cell phone band that
- 2:15Speaker 5: the legislature has has put into place, and every county
- 2:20Speaker 5: has to come up with their own plan of how
- 2:22Speaker 5: they plan to do it. Fayette County was one I
- 2:24Speaker 5: think that released some information. Mond County also did well.
- 2:27Speaker 5: Conawa County starting the discussions right now. We had a story,
- 2:30Speaker 5: as a matter of fact, posted about it. Darren Parker
- 2:31Speaker 5: did an end depth story about it over wv metronews
- 2:34Speaker 5: dot com. We'll get into that story a little bit later.
- 2:36Speaker 5: On Pluster was a shooting in downtown Charleston last night.
- 2:39Speaker 5: We'll tell you about that's. As always, your calls and

- 2:51Speaker 5: Before we get all into all that, I want to
- 2:53Speaker 5: welcome back to the show Republican delegate from the fifty fifth,
- 2:56Speaker 5: Andy Shamblin, who's with us. Good morning, Sarah, Welcome to
- 2:58Speaker 5: the show. Good morning day. Hell you doing doing fine?
- 3:01Speaker 5: Thank you for being here. So before we get into
- 3:03Speaker 5: while you're here all right, I got to ask you.
- 3:06Speaker 5: You're an educator. That's what you do. That's your real job. Okay,
- 3:11Speaker 5: shaping and molding young minds as you do. How big
- 3:15Speaker 5: of an issue our cell phones in school?
- 3:18Speaker 6: I've actually seen the full spectrum of technology in schools.
- 3:23Speaker 6: When I first started teaching in twoenty and fourteen, ten
- 3:27Speaker 6: years ago now, believe it or not, cell phones were
- 3:30Speaker 6: still banned and we did not have iPads in school
- 3:35Speaker 6: in Kannall County. And then the next year we started
- 3:39Speaker 6: with the one to one integration of iPads in school,
- 3:43Speaker 6: and then the cell phone policy changed to become much
- 3:46Speaker 6: more lenient. To me, cell phones are a major distraction
- 3:52Speaker 6: in the classroom. I think it will be very challenging
- 3:57Speaker 6: though to peel that back. I think that the law
- 4:03Speaker 6: that was passed was sort of a messaging law because
- 4:07Speaker 6: counties already had the ability of banning cell phones if
- 4:12Speaker 6: they chose to before this law was even implemented. So
- 4:18Speaker 6: I think it's going to be very interesting to see
- 4:20Speaker 6: how it is implemented, because the devil is obviously in.
- 4:23Speaker 5: The details always.
- 4:25Speaker 6: And just speaking for myself, I think that consistency is
- 4:31Speaker 6: going to be key. I do think that academics suffer
- 4:38Speaker 6: because of cell phones, because all of us, including adults,
- 4:43Speaker 6: are so easily distracted by our phones. I mean, I
- 4:46Speaker 6: find myself checking my phone way too often.
- 4:51Speaker 5: I mean, human beings were not designed to be connected
- 4:54Speaker 5: twenty four to seven. That's just a fact. And it's
- 4:57Speaker 5: just a bigger problem, as you said, with adults, is
- 5:00Speaker 5: what it is with kids. And I think, and I
- 5:03Speaker 5: promise that's not why I brought you here today, Okay,
- 5:05Speaker 5: but the consistency issue is a big thing because again,
- 5:09Speaker 5: you're a high school teacher, and you can you know,
- 5:12Speaker 5: in your school, and you know when you were in school,
- 5:14Speaker 5: and I know when I was in school, every teacher
- 5:17Speaker 5: was They went about discipline differently, you know, and you
- 5:21Speaker 5: knew what you could get by with and miss so
- 5:23Speaker 5: and so's class that you couldn't get by with and
- 5:25Speaker 5: mister so and So's class, or vice versa. And you know,
- 5:29Speaker 5: this teacher didn't care. I know, you know, if you
- 5:31Speaker 5: go back and you look at the problems that teachers
- 5:33Speaker 5: had in the nineteen fifties and sixties compared today, it's
- 5:35Speaker 5: I mean, talking and chewing gum were the biggest problems
- 5:38Speaker 5: they had. And now you guys face a whole lot
- 5:40Speaker 5: more than that. But I think the implementation of this,
- 5:43Speaker 5: as you said at Devil's in the details and how
- 5:45Speaker 5: they're going to do this is really interesting. And I've
- 5:52Speaker 5: said this on the show before, and oh did I
- 5:54Speaker 5: make some people mad, But I've done that before. Mommy
- 5:57Speaker 5: and Daddy are going to have a bigger problem with
- 5:59Speaker 5: it than the kids. Will. I agree one with that
- 6:02Speaker 5: stage somebody does because I got ripped all a hecknback
- 6:04Speaker 5: for saying that mommy and Daddy will have a much
- 6:07Speaker 5: bigger issue with little whatever not having access they can't
- 6:12Speaker 5: have access to them. Talk to that because I'm glad
- 6:16Speaker 5: because you're a teacher, I.
- 6:17Speaker 6: Can speak to that very very much from firsthand experience.
- 6:21Speaker 6: I know there are parents who will text their kids
- 6:25Speaker 6: during class, they have to check in with them after class.
- 6:31Speaker 6: I mean, it's it's it's sort of like helicopter parents
- 6:34Speaker 6: on steroids in a sense. And another component of this,
- 6:38Speaker 6: too is so many school aged children are losing their
- 6:45Speaker 6: ability to communicate face to face. And I know just
- 6:52Speaker 6: you know, for example, if I have a student who
- 6:56Speaker 6: needs to have a conversation with me about missing assignments,
- 7:01Speaker 6: a lot of students would rather send me a message
- 7:03Speaker 6: on school age type it out, then they would actually
- 7:07Speaker 6: come and have a conversation face to face. And always
- 7:10Speaker 6: tell my students like, you're in class every day. You
- 7:13Speaker 6: come and you see me.
- 7:14Speaker 5: After class or before class or at.
- 7:16Speaker 6: A convenient moments, have a conversation like I'm a human
- 7:20Speaker 6: being and you need to learn how to communicate with
- 7:22Speaker 6: human beings. And it's you know, I think technology in
- 7:27Speaker 6: school is truly a double edged sword because it allows
- 7:32Speaker 6: us and it enables us to do so many awesome things.
- 7:36Speaker 6: I mean, you can research, you can create presentations, but
- 7:41Speaker 6: it also has that other.
- 7:43Speaker 5: Aspect of it. Well.
- 7:44Speaker 6: I mean I have literally had students say to me
- 7:47Speaker 6: believe it or not. Like if you give a for example,
- 7:50Speaker 6: reading with questions, so you're doing a reading on the
- 7:53Speaker 6: Declaration of Independence, a lot of students aren't reading it.
- 7:57Speaker 6: What they do is google the questions and they'll say, shambling,
- 8:02Speaker 6: there's no answer to this question.
- 8:04Speaker 5: Google has no.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Answer, so therefore there must be no answer.
- 8:07Speaker 5: To this question. And that's where AI comes in. And
- 8:09Speaker 5: that's another subject for another time. All right, let's I
- 8:12Speaker 5: didn't mean to put you on the spot theear, but
- 8:15Speaker 5: let's talk about the trafficking cross lanes. Every time that
- 8:18Speaker 5: I say maybe an even more difficult problem. Every time
- 8:21Speaker 5: I say cross lanes traffic, I think that the Jimi
- 8:24Speaker 5: Hendrix saw on crosstown traffic. So you're here just a
- 8:27Speaker 5: couple of weeks ago, and you you updated this on
- 8:30Speaker 5: some stuff. Now you get some more info than you
- 8:32Speaker 5: need to talk about what's what's going on there.
- 8:33Speaker 6: I've been dinging into this road project issue now for
- 8:39Speaker 6: several weeks and and it is something that I've worked
- 8:44Speaker 6: on ever since I was elected to try to manage
- 8:46Speaker 6: it and try to make sure that it stays on track.
- 8:49Speaker 6: And basically what I did last week is I sent
- 8:54Speaker 6: a formal request to the Governor's office, to d H
- 8:58Speaker 6: and to the Public Service Commission UH to try to
- 9:02Speaker 6: determine exactly what the hold up is with the construction.
- 9:08Speaker 6: Those who live in Cross Lanes, of course, are aware
- 9:11Speaker 6: that the project has been put on Paul's since last October,
- 9:16Speaker 6: and I have I have continually been told since then, well,
- 9:22Speaker 6: we're waiting on utility companies to relocate their infrastructure. And
- 9:30Speaker 6: the impact of this project being on hold has been
- 9:36Speaker 6: catastrophic to the Cross Lanes community because if you drive
- 9:40Speaker 6: through Cross Lanes today, you'll see that basically it looks
- 9:46Speaker 6: like a massive unfinished construction zone. You've got cones everywhere.
- 9:51Speaker 5: You've got because that's what it is.
- 9:52Speaker 6: That's what it is, and it's and it's and it's
- 9:54Speaker 6: been frozen in time since October of last year.
- 9:58Speaker 5: Ye actually let me jump in here because I actually
- 10:00Speaker 5: had a text when somebody knew that you were going
- 10:03Speaker 5: to be on the show today said Grandma lives in
- 10:06Speaker 5: Cross Lanes and I'm out there a few days a week.
- 10:09Speaker 5: Be sure to ask why there hasn't been any work
- 10:10Speaker 5: done in twenty twenty five. They packed up at the
- 10:12Speaker 5: end of twenty twenty four, haven't been back. They took
- 10:15Speaker 5: us from three lanes to two and then left. That accurate.
- 10:18Speaker 6: That is accurate, and the contractor demobilized in October due
- 10:25Speaker 6: to utility right away issues and they are they cannot
- 10:31Speaker 6: do any more work until those utilities are relocated. And
- 10:35Speaker 6: it's my understanding that most, if not all, of those
- 10:39Speaker 6: utilities have now relocated their infrastructure.
- 10:43Speaker 7: Now.
- 10:44Speaker 6: There's also been some.
- 10:47Speaker 5: Discussion about polls.
- 10:49Speaker 6: And if you drive through Cross Lanes, you can see
- 10:52Speaker 6: that various different utility polls have been marked I'm assuming
- 10:57Speaker 6: for removal, so I think there's still some that remains
- 11:00Speaker 6: yet to be done. And what I've asked the Governor's
- 11:04Speaker 6: office to do, and they've been extremely receptive once I
- 11:07Speaker 6: made them aware of this issue, they jumped on it
- 11:11Speaker 6: with both feet yesterday. And what I've asked them to
- 11:14Speaker 6: do is coordinate a stakeholder meeting where we could get DOH,
- 11:20Speaker 6: the utility companies, contractor PSC everyone together in the same
- 11:26Speaker 6: room to see if we can figure out why this
- 11:29Speaker 6: is taking so long. It's almost becoming reminiscent of what
- 11:34Speaker 6: happened in Canall City with just continual, continual interruptions to
- 11:40Speaker 6: the project. And I'm just I'm hopeful now that with
- 11:45Speaker 6: the Governor's office being involved in it, DOH working on it,
- 11:50Speaker 6: PSC working on it, that will be able to get
- 11:53Speaker 6: some type of solution, and not only a solution, but
- 11:56Speaker 6: a timeline for when this project is going to restart
- 12:00Speaker 6: and when it's going to be completed, because obviously it's
- 12:03Speaker 6: not going to be completed in the original time frame.
- 12:06Speaker 5: Talk about how much your phone's ringing about this from
- 12:09Speaker 5: your constituents. My phone never stops ringing, Dave. You mentioned, well,
- 12:13Speaker 5: maybe maybe they banned them in schools, they still get
- 12:17Speaker 5: a break between seven thirty and three. Right, that's a
- 12:19Speaker 5: fair point.
- 12:20Speaker 6: Sometimes I feel like I'm a full time delegate a
- 12:23Speaker 6: part time teacher, right yeah.
- 12:25Speaker 5: Because but that's good that your receptive to you to
- 12:28Speaker 5: your delegation. And I'm hats off to any legislator that
- 12:31Speaker 5: does that.
- 12:32Speaker 6: And yesterday when I was doing an interview with WSAZ
- 12:36Speaker 6: by the four way stopping cross lanes, there are actually
- 12:38Speaker 6: two people that drove by and I guess recognized me
- 12:42Speaker 6: and they screamed out.
- 12:43Speaker 3: Fix the road, get the road fixed.
- 12:47Speaker 5: Well, I mean it sounds like you know, and again
- 12:50Speaker 5: I'm not an expert on this binny stretch of the imagination,
- 12:53Speaker 5: but it just I mean, I start this show with
- 12:55Speaker 5: the line from a Cool Hand Loop, my dad's all
- 12:57Speaker 5: time favorite movie. It's what we have here is a
- 12:59Speaker 5: failure to communicate exactly. And that seems to because you
- 13:02Speaker 5: just want answers. I mean, you can't just start a
- 13:04Speaker 5: project and leave. I mean, somebody's got to be responsible.
- 13:07Speaker 5: I mean, cross Lane's traffic on a good day five
- 13:09Speaker 5: years ago was well, they called it cross Vegas for
- 13:13Speaker 5: a reason. You know, it was pretty bad. Five years ago,
- 13:16Speaker 5: and now we've added this on to it. Like the
- 13:18Speaker 5: Texter said about you know, guys just trying to visit
- 13:20Speaker 5: grandma or the person just trying to visit grandma.
- 13:23Speaker 6: And you know, Cross Lanes is in a unique position
- 13:26Speaker 6: anyway because it's such a large unincorporated area, right, Yeah,
- 13:29Speaker 6: so it really does fall upon the state to make
- 13:35Speaker 6: sure that everything stays on track and that this project
- 13:39Speaker 6: is being managed appropriately.

- 13:52Speaker 5: final thirty seconds. So what do people that live there
- 13:55Speaker 5: that have concerns? What can they do? I mean they're
- 13:58Speaker 5: obviously reaching out to you. Is there anything else that
- 14:00Speaker 5: that they can do to and you don't want to
- 14:02Speaker 5: pile upon you know, the different entities, But but but
- 14:05Speaker 5: what what what's the what's the best course of action
- 14:07Speaker 5: for people that live at work it and travel it. Well,
- 14:10Speaker 5: I think there's a couple of things.
- 14:11Speaker 6: First of all, I think they need to they need
- 14:14Speaker 6: to realize that the project is moving forward. The funding
- 14:17Speaker 6: hasn't been pulled. That's one of the most persistent rumors
- 14:20Speaker 6: that I hear continually. Well, the money's been pulled, The
- 14:23Speaker 6: money has not been pulled. The project is going to
- 14:26Speaker 6: move forward. You know, be be consistent in the information
- 14:30Speaker 6: that has spread. Thirdly, or secondly, reach out to the
- 14:35Speaker 6: Governor's office, reach out to d H, reach out to
- 14:39Speaker 6: all these entities and and let them know that this
- 14:42Speaker 6: is an issue that that we need to get resolved.
- 14:45Speaker 5: All right, Delgate, Andy Sham, and I appreciate you being
- 14:48Speaker 5: here as always, my friend, thanks a lot. Well, when
- 14:51Speaker 5: does school start when you have to go back to here?
- 14:52Speaker 5: The week of August? Second week of August? Are you
- 14:55Speaker 5: a fan of school starting as early as it does? Again,
- 14:57Speaker 5: when I was in school, it was always the day
- 14:59Speaker 5: after Labor Day? And do you have a preference just
- 15:02Speaker 5: I would rather be later.
- 15:04Speaker 6: Personally, I like the idea of a more traditional calendar.
- 15:07Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 15:09Speaker 6: The challenge with that is when when school started after
- 15:12Speaker 6: Labor Day, you didn't go to school as long, so
- 15:17Speaker 6: you had like one hundred and seventy or one hundred
- 15:18Speaker 6: and seventy five instructional days. Now there's one hundred and
- 15:21Speaker 6: eighty requirement, So in order to make it fit within
- 15:25Speaker 6: that calendar, you almost have to decrease the number of
- 15:28Speaker 6: instructional days.
- 15:29Speaker 5: Well that's another I got to have you back again
- 15:30Speaker 5: because I want to get into AI in the classrooms
- 15:33Speaker 5: and I want another update on this, so and then
- 15:35Speaker 5: we'll talk about school calendars as well. Thanks lot delicate.

- 18:22Speaker 5: the experts and bureaucrats that make a simple solution like
- 18:24Speaker 5: heart surgery real simple. No cell phones used during school hours,
- 18:29Speaker 5: tex says school offices and classrooms needs silent alarms for
- 18:32Speaker 5: teachers and staff to press, like banks, restaurants convenience stores
- 18:35Speaker 5: have in case of danger. There is no need for
- 18:37Speaker 5: kids to have cell phones in the classroom. We gen
- 18:40Speaker 5: Xterra survived the school day just fine without phones. Parents
- 18:43Speaker 5: call the office, leave a message for your child. That's
- 18:46Speaker 5: all you have to do. If there is an emergency,
- 18:47Speaker 5: then go to the school and check your kid out.
- 18:51Speaker 5: Tex says. The guests complained about kids sending messages rather
- 18:53Speaker 5: than talking in person. Yet he sends a letter to
- 18:55Speaker 5: the governor and Department of Highways about the road issue.
- 18:58Speaker 5: Wait the lead by example, Well you can't you know,
- 19:01Speaker 5: I mean, there's a there's a protocol, you know, when
- 19:03Speaker 5: you're dealing with governmental agencies, Tex says, Dave, when you
- 19:07Speaker 5: get into AI in the classroom, don't forget to mention
- 19:09Speaker 5: Trump's stance of being against states rights to regulate a

- 19:16Speaker 5: four five fifty eight fifty eight. Tony the Taylor Text
- 19:18Speaker 5: three zero four nine three five five zero zero eight.
- 19:21Speaker 5: If you're a podcast person, you know one of the
- 19:23Speaker 5: hottest ones produced here in the valley. Let's talk with
- 19:27Speaker 5: Carl Lee. Carl of course, former South Charleston Marshall guy,
- 19:31Speaker 5: longtime Minnesota Vikings and for a while the Saints.
- 19:34Speaker 12: Uh.
- 19:34Speaker 5: He does the show, which is available from your favorite
- 19:36Speaker 5: podcast provider, and all our streaming sites were a little
- 19:39Speaker 5: bit biased because we produce it. Uh but uh, it's
- 19:42Speaker 5: Carl's show, no doubt. Well, okay, let me take that back.
- 19:45Speaker 5: It's Carl's and Lisa Odie's show, and and and Delgate
- 19:48Speaker 5: Holly Lewis delegate. Hollis Lewis is on the show frequently,
- 19:51Speaker 5: but not necessarily in his delegate role, just to provide commentary.
- 19:54Speaker 5: Lisa Odie is with us right now. She's one of
- 19:56Speaker 5: the stars of the podcast, and she joins a Lisa.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Good morning, thanks for having me so much, Welcome to
- 20:03Speaker 3: the show. Thank you.
- 20:04Speaker 5: So how did you get involved in this podcast?
- 20:07Speaker 13: Oh, many moons ago, many moons ago, Dave, So, years ago,
- 20:11Speaker 13: there used to be a live radio broadcast here on
- 20:14Speaker 13: w c HS called The Drive and it was hosted
- 20:17Speaker 13: by Frank Guardina.
- 20:18Speaker 5: And Carl Lee was on Frank very well.
- 20:20Speaker 13: Yes, And so I was asked to occasionally come and
- 20:24Speaker 13: fill in on the podcast when Carl was out of
- 20:26Speaker 13: town or you know, there was some kind of special
- 20:28Speaker 13: topic they wanted me to join in on. So I
- 20:31Speaker 13: did that for a few years, and then later on
- 20:35Speaker 13: Dana Ferrell with RSN. I think you guys have heard
- 20:38Speaker 13: of the Tailgate Show. It's still in production. We do
- 20:42Speaker 13: that every fall for high school football, and so they
- 20:45Speaker 13: asked me to join in on that show. So that's
- 20:47Speaker 13: something that I do, you know, during the fall.
- 20:50Speaker 3: And then in October Carl and Hollis Uh.
- 20:55Speaker 13: They asked me to guest host with them, and it
- 20:58Speaker 13: ended up they asked me to come in full time,
- 21:00Speaker 13: so kind of just haphazard. It wasn't anything planned. It
- 21:04Speaker 13: was just like, come join us, and then they said
- 21:07Speaker 13: join us forever.
- 21:08Speaker 5: Okay, Now, how often do you do a new show?
- 21:11Speaker 3: We do a show once a week.
- 21:13Speaker 13: We usually have it recorded on Monday evenings and then
- 21:15Speaker 13: it is broadcast here on the station. I think it's
- 21:18Speaker 13: Thursday evenings around seven and then Sunday afternoons at one.
- 21:21Speaker 5: Yeah, and it's also available on our website and and
- 21:24Speaker 5: social media and your favorite podcast providers. It's talk talk
- 21:28Speaker 5: about the content. How do you decide what to talk about?
- 21:31Speaker 13: Well, it's kind of a group effort, Like right now,
- 21:33Speaker 13: we have a text thread that we all keep in
- 21:35Speaker 13: touch and we just kind of come in with ideas
- 21:38Speaker 13: about you know, get possible guests.
- 21:40Speaker 3: Possible topics.
- 21:41Speaker 13: We like to try to get, you know, a guest
- 21:43Speaker 13: that has some times to West Virginia at least, you know,
- 21:47Speaker 13: somehow related to you know, sports here in the Mountain state.
- 21:52Speaker 3: Not always that happens.
- 21:53Speaker 13: Sometimes it's some of Carl's buddies that he knows and
- 21:55Speaker 13: his you know, his past endeavors in the NFL. So
- 21:59Speaker 13: it's kind of something that we all do together. And
- 22:02Speaker 13: right now we're working on some guests that are related
- 22:04Speaker 13: to the TBT tournament for next week, so hopefully we'll
- 22:08Speaker 13: secure some some you know, prominent people from that coming up.
- 22:11Speaker 5: But Dave Alan Chewing five Adieline brought to you in
- 22:13Speaker 5: part by Live Healthy West Virginia presented by WVU Medicine.
- 22:16Speaker 5: It's a podcast promoting healthier lifestyles in the state. Check
- 22:18Speaker 5: afflatest episodes wv metronews dot com under the podcast menu. Now,
- 22:22Speaker 5: you guys aren't afraid to ruffle a few feathers every now.
- 22:25Speaker 3: And then, I would say that's correct.
- 22:28Speaker 5: I mean, you know you can. Only here's the thing
- 22:31Speaker 5: about it, because it's car Lee and because you're involved
- 22:36Speaker 5: in because Hollis Lewis is a big sports guy as well,
- 22:39Speaker 5: there's gonna be a lot of sports talk, but it
- 22:41Speaker 5: goes well beyond that. I mean, you get into social issues,
- 22:44Speaker 5: and you get into various other things, and from time
- 22:48Speaker 5: to time, if you're doing your job correctly in this format,
- 22:51Speaker 5: whether it's a podcast or whether it's on the radio
- 22:54Speaker 5: in your case, it's actually both. Do you want to
- 22:57Speaker 5: ruffle a few feathers?
- 22:58Speaker 13: Yeah? Yeah, we get some shade thrown our way every
- 23:00Speaker 13: once in a while, just a bit of that way.
- 23:01Speaker 13: We also ruffle each other's feathers at times, which makes
- 23:04Speaker 13: it kind of fun. We know that we're all you know,
- 23:07Speaker 13: we all agree on the same sports topics, but we
- 23:11Speaker 13: may not view them the same, which makes it that
- 23:13Speaker 13: makes it kind of fun. I think some of the
- 23:15Speaker 13: controversial topics we've taken on Z in a all. That's
- 23:18Speaker 13: a big thing for us and our favorite licensing. Yes, yes,
- 23:21Speaker 13: that's something that we look at. Youth sports is a
- 23:24Speaker 13: big topic with us. You know, Carl and Hollis are
- 23:28Speaker 13: both involved pretty strongly in that in that realm, and
- 23:31Speaker 13: so we talk about, you know, things that families, you know,
- 23:34Speaker 13: should or should not be doing. We don't want to
- 23:36Speaker 13: tell people what to do with their families, of course,
- 23:38Speaker 13: but some good solid advice from coaches.
- 23:40Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I can't imagine, and I've the world
- 23:47Speaker 5: has changed so much, and I spent a whole lot
- 23:49Speaker 5: of time in talking about that, about how things have changed,
- 23:52Speaker 5: not not always, not always for the worst, but but
- 23:55Speaker 5: but not always for the better. And it's and I
- 24:00Speaker 5: was a big Carlyle fan, you know, going back, uh,
- 24:02Speaker 5: and of course he was a Marshall guy and followed
- 24:04Speaker 5: his career in the NFL and stuff in his career
- 24:07Speaker 5: since then. I would imagine that I would call I
- 24:11Speaker 5: would refer to Carlo's old school to old for sure.
- 24:14Speaker 3: I think both of us are.
- 24:15Speaker 13: I think Hollis is a little newer school, and then
- 24:17Speaker 13: carl and I Rockville the old school.
- 24:19Speaker 5: But dealing but dealing with the modern day parent, modern
- 24:24Speaker 5: day kid, I think would be a bit of a
- 24:27Speaker 5: bit of a change from what it was for those
- 24:29Speaker 5: of us that grew up in the nineteen seventies nineteen eighties.
- 24:32Speaker 13: Yeah, I think the whole just the whole availability of
- 24:36Speaker 13: what they have to you know, better themselves. In sports,
- 24:40Speaker 13: they've got travel ball, those are things that didn't exist
- 24:42Speaker 13: back in the day. You know, there's access to social media.
- 24:48Speaker 13: You know, there's total twenty four to seven coverage on
- 24:51Speaker 13: TV of sports and sports you know, events and different things.
- 24:54Speaker 13: So I think the whole difference between our generation and
- 24:59Speaker 13: this generation access I think that's a good way to
- 25:01Speaker 13: describe it. And sometimes that access, like you just said,
- 25:05Speaker 13: sometimes it's a positive influence and sometimes it's not so positive.
- 25:08Speaker 13: So I think parents in this day and age have
- 25:11Speaker 13: to find a good balance between you know, what's good
- 25:14Speaker 13: and accessible to their to their their kids, and you
- 25:17Speaker 13: know what's not.
- 25:18Speaker 5: Talking again with Lisa Odive Dave Alan showing five eighty
- 25:21Speaker 5: live is presented by Generations Physical Therapy nine practices, all
- 25:24Speaker 5: offered an extended hour. So access to physical therapy has
- 25:27Speaker 5: never been easier for an appointment three zero four, seven,
- 25:30Speaker 5: six zero fifty six sixty or visit Generations pt dot com.
- 25:34Speaker 5: So getting away from sports for a moments, how much
- 25:38Speaker 5: do you dive into the political arena?
- 25:42Speaker 3: I do?
- 25:43Speaker 5: Okay, I tip my toes in it. Put it that way, okay,
- 25:46Speaker 5: all right, all right, So how would I describe Lisa
- 25:49Speaker 5: Odie as political? Your political persuasion.
- 25:55Speaker 13: While I belong to the Democratic Party, Okay, I think
- 25:59Speaker 13: my views line a little not.
- 26:02Speaker 3: I want to say a moderate Democrat if there's one.
- 26:05Speaker 13: If that's possible, Well, there used to be. Okay, that's
- 26:08Speaker 13: kind of my views.
- 26:09Speaker 5: But they're also to be fair, there also used to
- 26:11Speaker 5: be moderate Republicans.
- 26:12Speaker 13: Well don't there you go, there's a few.
- 26:16Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, So I think my views lie.
- 26:18Speaker 13: I mean, it's more sympathetic to democratic values and policy.
- 26:25Speaker 13: You know, it's like any other party or any other
- 26:27Speaker 13: thing in life. You don't agree one hundred percent with
- 26:29Speaker 13: everything that is presented to you. I mean, you know,
- 26:32Speaker 13: there are some things that I'm I don't know about that.
- 26:35Speaker 13: I think for the most part, I belong in the
- 26:37Speaker 13: party that I should be in.
- 26:38Speaker 5: Okay, all right, Well, and here's where I would I
- 26:40Speaker 5: would say this about make no mistake about the Republican
- 26:45Speaker 5: Party now is the party of Trump. It is. It
- 26:47Speaker 5: is the party of Trump. And I know for a
- 26:50Speaker 5: fact that there are a lot of Republicans who do
- 26:53Speaker 5: not agree with Donald Trump, but they will not say anything.
- 26:55Speaker 5: And that's what that's that's where I have an issue
- 26:57Speaker 5: if you have that. And I would say the same
- 26:59Speaker 5: thing that it were Democrats. I took a lot of
- 27:02Speaker 5: I mean, it really bothered me that my Democratic friends
- 27:05Speaker 5: that so few of them would speak out against Joe
- 27:08Speaker 5: Biden because Joe Biden had absolutely no business being the nominee,
- 27:13Speaker 5: and they all, I mean not.
- 27:15Speaker 3: The debate showed that for sure, nowely.
- 27:17Speaker 5: Five percent of Democrats would not Oh he's fine, No
- 27:20Speaker 5: he wasn't. Do you have eyes? He was not fine.
- 27:23Speaker 13: And I think that that that's a good point, Dave,
- 27:25Speaker 13: because I think you can't blindly be you can't blindly
- 27:30Speaker 13: be just with one party. I think you have to
- 27:32Speaker 13: see all issues and then you know, just just understand
- 27:36Speaker 13: that there are some things that it's okay not to
- 27:38Speaker 13: agree with in your party, and you can stand up
- 27:41Speaker 13: for and speak out against. I think right now, I
- 27:45Speaker 13: think our world is just so it's so politically charged,
- 27:48Speaker 13: and it's so divided.
- 27:49Speaker 3: And it's just a scary thing.
- 27:51Speaker 13: It's hard to watch the news in the morning and feel,
- 27:54Speaker 13: like me like it's always something new that just kind of,
- 27:57Speaker 13: you know, upsets me to start my day.
- 27:59Speaker 5: But let me just say this, let me jump in here. Okay.
- 28:03Speaker 5: One of the things that's changed over the years is
- 28:05Speaker 5: it used to be you turned on the TV, you
- 28:07Speaker 5: turned on the radio, and you got the news. Right Now,
- 28:11Speaker 5: you turn on and you go to the news outlet
- 28:15Speaker 5: that best fits your ideals. So if you're a conservative Republican,
- 28:20Speaker 5: many of them, it's going to be it's going to
- 28:23Speaker 5: be Fox News or you know, god forbid, it's going
- 28:26Speaker 5: to be Newsmax. Okay. And if you're liberal, it's going
- 28:29Speaker 5: to be seeing It Yeah, MSNBC or CNN, and there
- 28:33Speaker 5: are others out there as well. And this is why,
- 28:38Speaker 5: in my opinion, we never get anywhere, because because when
- 28:41Speaker 5: we have these debates, whether it's you know, online or whatever,
- 28:47Speaker 5: cite your sources. Okay, well here's my source. Well that's
- 28:49Speaker 5: from Fox News. Nobody's gonna believe that, right, That's from CNN.
- 28:52Speaker 5: Who believes that, you know, it's what I mean. And
- 28:55Speaker 5: and so that's where we've gotten so polarized as a society.
- 28:59Speaker 5: And we also so now we view people that are different,
- 29:02Speaker 5: that think differently than us, we view them as the enemy.
- 29:06Speaker 5: And how many times have you seen on social media
- 29:08Speaker 5: if you're a you know, if you're following Trump, if
- 29:11Speaker 5: you're anti Trump, you know, unfriend me. Now, I mean
- 29:14Speaker 5: that that's not the answer. That's not the answer. And
- 29:18Speaker 5: social media has made it so that we just dig
- 29:21Speaker 5: our heels in and go down these conspiracy, you know,
- 29:24Speaker 5: rabbit holes and so on and so and now. And
- 29:27Speaker 5: I've often said this to my conservative friends, and I
- 29:30Speaker 5: can say to my liberal friends as well. If you
- 29:32Speaker 5: are a conservative, why would you want to just have
- 29:36Speaker 5: the same talking points right beaten into your head? Why
- 29:40Speaker 5: not try to understand the other side. Okay, you feel
- 29:43Speaker 5: this way about this issue, Maybe I could better understand
- 29:47Speaker 5: you if I were to maybe watch another news channel
- 29:52Speaker 5: or maybe talk to some of Heaven forbid, we actually
- 29:54Speaker 5: have a conversation with somebody that's different us. We just
- 29:59Speaker 5: got soul least so that we can't have a conversation
- 30:02Speaker 5: over all. I think this, Are they all right, let's
- 30:04Speaker 5: go have a beer or let's or let's yeah, or
- 30:06Speaker 5: let's you know, shake hands and move on. We just
- 30:09Speaker 5: can't do that.
- 30:09Speaker 13: I think I think people are afraid. I mean, honestly,
- 30:13Speaker 13: I think people are afraid to speak truly about how
- 30:17Speaker 13: they feel with politics. I also think people throw things
- 30:20Speaker 13: irresponsibly out on social media without fact checking what and
- 30:23Speaker 13: that's another problem, you know, or it's it's you know,
- 30:27Speaker 13: the date's wrong and you're like, oh my gosh, this,
- 30:30Speaker 13: you know, did this really happen? And then you see
- 30:31Speaker 13: it happen like three years ago or whatever under another administration.
- 30:34Speaker 13: Even so, I think that there is just there's so
- 30:37Speaker 13: many I don't know how, Dave you you really even
- 30:40Speaker 13: start to come to the table at this point. I mean,
- 30:43Speaker 13: we're not even walking towards is exactly exactly, So I
- 30:47Speaker 13: don't even know where you start. I think, like you said,
- 30:51Speaker 13: you know, maybe go have a beer with somebody and say, hey,
- 30:53Speaker 13: let let's let's let's you know, let's share views. I
- 30:56Speaker 13: don't even think we're ready for that. Yeah, yeah, And
- 30:59Speaker 13: I don't know when we will be. I don't see
- 31:00Speaker 13: it coming.
- 31:01Speaker 5: And on this and on this show I have I've
- 31:04Speaker 5: done the show for five years now. You know, we
- 31:06Speaker 5: talked about a lot of stuff going on the community.
- 31:07Speaker 5: But I also will have we'll get into politics, and
- 31:11Speaker 5: I have Mike Pushkin on one day, and I have
- 31:13Speaker 5: Greg Thomas, Rob Cornelius on the next day. Right, and
- 31:17Speaker 5: the number of people that will say, why would you
- 31:19Speaker 5: platform that's my favorite word, why why would you platform
- 31:22Speaker 5: a liberal Democrat? Why would you platform a right wing?
- 31:26Speaker 3: What will they say about me? David? I don't know
- 31:28Speaker 3: how to I don't know how to get me.
- 31:29Speaker 5: Because there's a thing called free speech, and because you
- 31:32Speaker 5: have the right to say things even that people don't
- 31:35Speaker 5: agree with. I'm right there with you. I mean, I've
- 31:39Speaker 5: told me I will not I will not shy away
- 31:41Speaker 5: from the fact that, yes, I do lean toward Democratic views.
- 31:45Speaker 13: I don't blindly agree with one hundred percent of everything
- 31:47Speaker 13: they put out there, and my friends will tell you
- 31:49Speaker 13: that now.
- 31:50Speaker 3: But but that those are my leanings.
- 31:52Speaker 13: I'm not going to get away from it and say
- 31:54Speaker 13: that I'm leaning toward the Republican views. But you know,
- 31:56Speaker 13: like I said, I'm kind of I just don't think
- 32:00Speaker 13: that anybody should be so dedicated to one party that
- 32:03Speaker 13: they can't see other views out there.
- 32:06Speaker 5: Texas Democrats are moderate and have popular policies. Republicans are
- 32:10Speaker 5: about authorietariotism, worshiping false idols. You know this is true.
- 32:14Speaker 5: You create a false equivalence because it makes you comfortable
- 32:17Speaker 5: supporting sending the military after citizens in the US, illegal deportations,
- 32:21Speaker 5: open bribes, and theft by Republicans. Appreciate the text what
- 32:24Speaker 5: I would say to that Democrats are moderate, have popular policies,
- 32:27Speaker 5: some some do. The reason that the Democratic Party is
- 32:30Speaker 5: in the shape that it's in in this nation right
- 32:32Speaker 5: now is because they have gone wacko left, far far left.
- 32:36Speaker 5: Don't believe me. Talk to longtime liberal Democrats. Talk to
- 32:40Speaker 5: somebody like a Bill Maher who says this party has
- 32:42Speaker 5: lost their freaking mind. And the same could be said
- 32:45Speaker 5: for republic I left the Republican Party, right, I mean
- 32:47Speaker 5: I left it because it no longer represented me. Ronald
- 32:51Speaker 5: Trump is not mean I voted for the guy twice.
- 32:54Speaker 5: I'm not a Trump guy. He's my president, and I
- 32:56Speaker 5: respect him and I want him to do well. But
- 32:58Speaker 5: both sides, in my opinion, and have been so overtaken,
- 33:01Speaker 5: Lisa by the extremism. Extremism on both sides. That's that's
- 33:06Speaker 5: just my opinion.
- 33:07Speaker 13: Yeah, I mean I voted, I voted for Kamala. I mean,
- 33:11Speaker 13: you know, of course that's you know, that was that
- 33:13Speaker 13: was the way I was drawn.
- 33:15Speaker 3: I felt like.
- 33:16Speaker 13: I had I had just these I don't want to say,
- 33:19Speaker 13: feelings of dread. When they were talking about electing Donald
- 33:24Speaker 13: Trump and you know, having him back in office, I
- 33:27Speaker 13: just felt like he wasn't the direction our country needed
- 33:31Speaker 13: to go. And on a lot of on a lot
- 33:33Speaker 13: of platforms, on a lot of different issues, and I
- 33:36Speaker 13: feel like all of that's coming to and I'm going
- 33:39Speaker 13: to be honest Project twenty twenty five. Hanging around out there,
- 33:42Speaker 13: I didn't like the vibe that I got from from

- 36:41Speaker 5: use someone who willfully and enthusiastically disregards the Constitution? Tex says,
- 36:48Speaker 5: thank you. That's exactly why I walked away from the
- 36:50Speaker 5: Democrat Party years ago. When these intolerant, hate field insane
- 36:54Speaker 5: progressive began taking over it, they lost a lot of people.
- 36:58Speaker 5: You want to respond to that you hate filled insane progressive?
- 37:03Speaker 5: Is that what I am now, I'm just kidding. I'm
- 37:06Speaker 5: just kidding.
- 37:07Speaker 3: No, I mean, I just see that.
- 37:10Speaker 13: That's the thing that's exactly proving my point that I
- 37:13Speaker 13: just tried to make a few minutes ago, is that
- 37:17Speaker 13: it's hard to talk about it without inciting strong emotions.
- 37:21Speaker 13: People cannot keep a calm, rational type of mood and
- 37:26Speaker 13: give rational thought a chance when they become so charged
- 37:31Speaker 13: up and respond to different views. Does that make sense?
- 37:35Speaker 13: They can't, They can't really think it through. And I'm
- 37:38Speaker 13: guilty of it. I'm guilty of it. I've had moments
- 37:40Speaker 13: when people have said things that have totally set me
- 37:42Speaker 13: off my rocker, and then you kind of you don't
- 37:45Speaker 13: you don't think it through and really say things in
- 37:49Speaker 13: a way that people will respond positively to it or
- 37:53Speaker 13: even listen to you, because when you're angry and you
- 37:55Speaker 13: say things like that, I'm not listening. Once you get
- 37:57Speaker 13: to that point that name calling is involved, and I'm

- 38:22Speaker 5: Not every Democrat policy is right, not every Republican idea
- 38:26Speaker 5: is wrong. There has to be people from both sides
- 38:29Speaker 5: talking about issues we agree on and then working on
- 38:31Speaker 5: the things that we don't. Sometimes the best ideas come
- 38:35Speaker 5: from someone having a different point of view perfect. I agree,
- 38:39Speaker 5: Applod applaud At agree with that. So let's talk real
- 38:45Speaker 5: briefly before we let you go here. Elon Musk has
- 38:47Speaker 5: come out and says he's going to start another party,
- 38:50Speaker 5: the America Party. I don't see that being a relevant thing.
- 38:55Speaker 5: But the people have said that their Joe Manchin was
- 38:59Speaker 5: on the Armer Center to Mansion, was on mid Day
- 39:01Speaker 5: with Amanda in me last week, and you know, he'd
- 39:04Speaker 5: kind of toyed with that out. He's a registered independent now.
- 39:07Speaker 5: He kind of toyed that when idea of a third party.
- 39:08Speaker 5: We have the Libertarian Party in West Virginia with the
- 39:11Speaker 5: Mountain Party in West Virginia. There is there a audience.
- 39:16Speaker 5: Is there a market, if you will, for a third
- 39:21Speaker 5: party in America, the fed Up Party?
- 39:24Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 39:26Speaker 13: I think that's that's a valid question. I don't think
- 39:29Speaker 13: we're ready for it yet. I do think people are
- 39:32Speaker 13: approaching that that point. I think we would have to
- 39:37Speaker 13: see how the rest of this administration plays out. I
- 39:41Speaker 13: would give it more time to see what successes and
- 39:44Speaker 13: failures this administration experiences before you look at that third
- 39:49Speaker 13: party option. I don't think that's the right source. Is
- 39:53Speaker 13: that a good way to put it. I don't think
- 39:54Speaker 13: Elon Musk would be exactly the right stable source. Well
- 39:59Speaker 13: you could use create that you can start after stable. Okay, right, right, right,
- 40:03Speaker 13: that's that's kind of my point. But yeah, I mean,
- 40:07Speaker 13: like I said, I don't think we're quite there yet.
- 40:09Speaker 13: We're approaching that point, but wait and see. I think
- 40:13Speaker 13: everybody should just sit back and wait and see how
- 40:15Speaker 13: the next you know, three years play out.
- 40:17Speaker 5: All right, Uh, texture wanted to correct something wanted to say.
- 40:22Speaker 5: And I don't know who my textures are, so but
- 40:24Speaker 5: it said I this texture said that they want to
- 40:27Speaker 5: make sure you knew they were not referring to you.
- 40:29Speaker 5: When when when they talk about hate field, insane, progressive,
- 40:34Speaker 5: they were not referring to you.
- 40:36Speaker 3: Okay, thank you so much.
- 40:38Speaker 5: That has happened to the Democrats, not to you, so
- 40:41Speaker 5: see a little Well, no, they're not saying you are personally.
- 40:45Speaker 5: They're saying the party. That's what the party has, party,
- 40:48Speaker 5: not personal got it, Texas. It's unbelievably despicable how far
- 40:51Speaker 5: New York City has fallen from sanity in one generation,
- 40:54Speaker 5: from losing twenty nine hundred and seventy seven souls in
- 40:57Speaker 5: one hundred and two minutes September eleventh by radical Islamist
- 41:01Speaker 5: who possibly elected a radical Islamist as their next mayor.
- 41:03Speaker 5: And yes, I know it was primaries, but you know
- 41:06Speaker 5: evil is going to win. Tex says. The term both
- 41:10Speaker 5: sides is a lazy gas lighting cop out that gained
- 41:13Speaker 5: popularity after the White Nationals protest in twenty seventeen and
- 41:17Speaker 5: Richmond when Trump used a phrase there are good people
- 41:20Speaker 5: on both sides. Texas. Also, please call it the Democratic Party,
- 41:23Speaker 5: not the Democrat Party, which is a cheap slur that
- 41:26Speaker 5: equates dims with rats. I apologize, I thought I did
- 41:30Speaker 5: call it that, Texas. No new party, Texas, No third
- 41:34Speaker 5: party always divides the Republican, says a Texter. All right, Lisa,
- 41:38Speaker 5: it's been a pleasure for having you on the show today.

- 46:30Speaker 5: I mean I think members of the Canon County Commissioner
- 46:32Speaker 5: up there as well. Also, I am efforting, and I
- 46:36Speaker 5: kind of touched on this earlier. I am efforting to
- 46:39Speaker 5: get someone from the Knawa County Board of Education, maybe
- 46:42Speaker 5: the superintendent or a board member or whatever on the
- 46:44Speaker 5: implications on the proposed cell phone band in schools. Alluded
- 46:49Speaker 5: to this earlier. Aaron Parker writes about it this morning
- 46:51Speaker 5: wv Metronews dot com. This conversation. This was passed by
- 46:54Speaker 5: the legislature, and the conversations have already started as to
- 46:58Speaker 5: how they are going to do this. The legislature, of course,
- 47:02Speaker 5: has enacted the cell phone band, and they have these
- 47:04Speaker 5: little things, these little yonder pouches, that's what they're called.
- 47:08Speaker 5: And in some instances, students, and they've done this in
- 47:12Speaker 5: some areas of the country, students would be asked when
- 47:14Speaker 5: they come in to place their phones in those pouches maybe,
- 47:18Speaker 5: and their pouches are kepted in the front of the
- 47:20Speaker 5: room or something like that. And as I said earlier,
- 47:25Speaker 5: it's been proven that in other states, the parents are
- 47:30Speaker 5: the ones that have the most problems with the cell
- 47:32Speaker 5: phone bands, not the kids. Kids get used to it.
- 47:35Speaker 5: And someone brought this up to me earlier this morning
- 47:37Speaker 5: in a conversation. What would keep a kid from bringing
- 47:40Speaker 5: an old phone, an old one with no service, and
- 47:43Speaker 5: then handing it over to the teacher and leaving their
- 47:46Speaker 5: active working phone in their pocket.
- 47:48Speaker 14: Or back back.
- 47:49Speaker 5: I can tell you fifteen year old entrepreneur Dave Allen
- 47:52Speaker 5: would have been selling old, broken out of service phones
- 47:55Speaker 5: to the other kids. I mean, that's what I would
- 47:57Speaker 5: have been to do and becaurse. This is a guy
- 47:59Speaker 5: that was pushing parlay cards in ninth grade. So there's
- 48:02Speaker 5: that serious bus Now. There was a shooting late last
- 48:06Speaker 5: night downtown. Twenty one year old Jacques Weldon of Charleston
- 48:09Speaker 5: the victim. Twenty six year old Nigel Hampton of Charleston
- 48:12Speaker 5: is the alleged shooter. He was charged with malicious wounding.
- 48:15Speaker 5: The shooting was supposedly over music inside Theodelphia Sports Bar.
- 48:19Speaker 5: Happened around ten thirty last night. Further details will be
- 48:23Speaker 5: released later, but the information about that came out from
- 48:27Speaker 5: the City of Charleston Police department during the overnight hours. Texas,
- 48:33Speaker 5: the packers sucked too. List of the worst teams, the Eagles,

- 48:47Speaker 5: I can't read this, it's way too small, but it
- 48:49Speaker 5: says sorry. He actually said you also had some very
- 48:52Speaker 5: fine people on both sides. And I appreciate the texture

- 50:09Speaker 5: like your kids. I love them, okay, and then they
- 50:12Speaker 5: tolerate you because I buy them things. That's what kids do. Okay.
- 50:16Speaker 5: So where are you on this whole cell phone thing?
- 50:18Speaker 5: I don't want to take away from talk line because
- 50:19Speaker 5: I think you guys are going to get into But
- 50:20Speaker 5: where are you on that? I really don't care? Okay,
- 50:23Speaker 5: thanks for coming. Yeah. My kids have had to have
- 50:26Speaker 5: iPads since they were in kindergarten.
- 50:28Speaker 12: It's part of the curriculum and an iPad is essentially
- 50:31Speaker 12: a cell phone. You can do anything on a you know,
- 50:34Speaker 12: you can make a.
- 50:34Speaker 5: Call, you can do whatever the text, take pictures, do whatever.
- 50:36Speaker 5: Here's the funny thing.
- 50:38Speaker 12: They teach our kids to be disciplined with their iPad
- 50:41Speaker 12: at a very early age, and this funny thing happened.
- 50:45Speaker 12: There's no problems with them because the kids became disciplined
- 50:47Speaker 12: at a young age. So rather than taking the tool away,
- 50:50Speaker 12: we decided to focus on discipline and turning young people
- 50:53Speaker 12: into good adults and teaching them how.
- 50:55Speaker 5: To use it. I would imagine, though, and you can
- 50:58Speaker 5: correct me if I'm wrong, I would imagine what iPads
- 51:00Speaker 5: that there are. They're restricted on what they're allowed to
- 51:02Speaker 5: access though, right, or some kind of safeguards in there
- 51:04Speaker 5: that they can't access. Maybe, I mean, I don't know
- 51:05Speaker 5: if I'm wrong yet. No, No, then they can't gram
- 51:08Speaker 5: them with the safeguards. But they can't can they do
- 51:10Speaker 5: social media? As far as I know they can. I mean,
- 51:13Speaker 5: there's always a kid that's going to figure it out.
- 51:14Speaker 5: Because if you have a problem with your phone or
- 51:16Speaker 5: your tablet, what do you do. You go find a
- 51:18Speaker 5: twelve year old and so, hey, hey fix this for me,
- 51:20Speaker 5: but no, they have internet access. A lot of the
- 51:22Speaker 5: apps that they use. My children are not on social media,
- 51:25Speaker 5: so I don't know if they will you allow them
- 51:27Speaker 5: to be when they get old. How old are your
- 51:29Speaker 5: kids ten? Eight and six? Okay? Will will you allow
- 51:32Speaker 5: them when they get older to be on so much
- 51:34Speaker 5: much older much of it? Like I would prefer that
- 51:36Speaker 5: like till twenty seven. They can make that show because
- 51:40Speaker 5: here's the thing.
- 51:41Speaker 12: I intentionally don't put pictures of my kids on Facebook, okay,
- 51:44Speaker 12: because they may not want to have a digital presence
- 51:47Speaker 12: one day. Good point, and once I put that on
- 51:49Speaker 12: on their behalf something out there.
- 51:52Speaker 5: Do you kids have cell phones or will they have
- 51:54Speaker 5: cell phones?
- 51:55Speaker 13: Not?
- 51:55Speaker 5: For a while. iPads are enough, they don't need cell phones.
- 51:58Speaker 5: I would say. I had a good friend of mine.
- 52:01Speaker 5: He and his wife decided sixteen and that was when
- 52:04Speaker 5: their daughter started driving, and he said, you won't have
- 52:06Speaker 5: a cell phone until you're sixteen years old.
- 52:08Speaker 12: That seems to make sense. Well, kids are different, that's
- 52:10Speaker 12: the thing. Know your kid make the right decision, all right?
- 52:13Speaker 5: What you got coming up?
- 52:14Speaker 12: Shelley Moore Capito kicks off the show at ten o six.
- 52:17Speaker 12: Aaron Delulo, author of the Poisoning podcast coming up at
- 52:20Speaker 12: ten thirty.

- 52:25Speaker 5: appreciate texture to the show earlier after when you said
- 52:28Speaker 5: libertarian said Bill Maher was never a liberal. He's a
