- 0:04Hello, this is, uh, Corey, and today is July 22nd, all of me,
- 0:13the stone, real change begins when I give God all of me, not just the parts I like.
- 0:19Ripple one practical today, I'll stop hiding my weakness or pretending I have it all together.
- 0:25I will be honest about both my strengths and my struggles. Growth happens when
- 0:29I bring the whole truth into light.
- 0:32Ripple too spiritual. The Father does not ask for a polished version of me.
- 0:37He asks for all of me. Jesus shows what it means to live fully surrendered.
- 0:42The Holy Spirit works in every part of my life, removing what is harmful and
- 0:45strengthening what is good.
- 0:50As I give myself completely, humility grows and I become more useful in God's hands.
- 0:59You know, this part right here, it's like, you know, real change begins when I give God all of me.
- 1:04And I, not just parts I like, you know, what's the things I like?
- 1:08Well, you know, usually the things that I get the most, the most out of,
- 1:13like, you know, I can, you know, the material things, the things I can see.
- 1:17And when I first started doing this stuff, I, you know, I was,
- 1:22the only things I could see were the things I could see, my problems.
- 1:26And those were the problems I had. And for some reason, for me,
- 1:31when I went down and did this work, right, and like this work had nothing to do with my problems.
- 1:38My problems being, you know, the main essential one is when I drink, I want more.
- 1:44For some amount of time, like I still drink. That was my problem at hand.
- 1:49I mean, I had other problems. It was court issues. It was the problems with.
- 1:55My significant other. It was family. It was job. It was all those.
- 2:00But, you know, that was the problem
- 2:01because everything else fell directly behind that for the most part.
- 2:07So, you know, for some reason, when I do this work, like I kind of look at it,
- 2:10and I've said this before, but when my left hand has all my life problems,
- 2:15like these other things, and my right hand is this work at hand.
- 2:20And for me, it was in 12 steps. And, you know, essentially, you know,
- 2:24growing a conscious contact with God.
- 2:27And it kind of talks about that in the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous.
- 2:32It says lack of power. That was our dilemma.
- 2:35We had to find a power which we could live, and it had to be a power greater
- 2:39than ourselves, obviously, but where and how were we to find this power?
- 2:44And then it goes on to say, well, that's exactly what this book is about.
- 2:48Its main object is enable you to find a power greater than yourself,
- 2:53which will solve your problem. So that's my problem, right?
- 2:57And so, or not my problem, but that's my solution to my problem.
- 3:02So when I go to do this work, you know, that's essentially what I'm doing is,
- 3:05finding a power and growing that conscious contact with that power.
- 3:10And I believe that everybody has that power within them.
- 3:14So, you know, and nobody has any more or less, right? So, you know,
- 3:18and that's the cool thing, you know, you know, and this thing that loves me,
- 3:22God that loves me, loves you just as much as me.
- 3:26Um, and I don't, you know, going through life and going through my days,
- 3:29I don't always see it like that.
- 3:32But when I think about giving all of me, real change begins when I give all
- 3:37of me, not just parts I like. I don't.
- 3:42Always like helping people. I don't always like taking my time off the couch to go help somebody.
- 3:51That's my job, to be of service. It doesn't matter the outcome.
- 3:55Once I got out of the outcome business and the result as this thing started making more sense to me.
- 4:01I know, like, you know, my sponsor, man, you know, he'll talk about,
- 4:04you know, he'll get to, it doesn't matter if someone even meets,
- 4:08you know, he gets credit for that.
- 4:09And I'm not talking about credit to something, but, you know,
- 4:13the, the idea of me trying to be of service and I don't like always being of service.
- 4:19I mean, I like, you know, and that's, that's cool. Cause like,
- 4:22I like the effect for the effect produced from it.
- 4:25And in the doctor's opinion, it says men and women drink essentially because
- 4:29they like the effect produced.
- 4:31And I'll tell you, if I took a big gulp, two gulps of whiskey,
- 4:36and, you know, I was a whiskey drinker, I don't like, you know,
- 4:40I could sip whiskey and tolerate it, but I don't think that anybody just likes
- 4:47gulping down any kind of alcohol.
- 4:51I like red Gatorade. Actually, I like the light blue Gatorade,
- 4:54the Glacier one. I think that tastes good.
- 4:57But the reason I drink alcohol is because I like the effect produced and I don't
- 5:01like always having to go out of my way to help people I mean I love I mean at
- 5:08the one hand I love it and I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing,
- 5:12but on the other side of that,
- 5:14I don't it's not always convenient,
- 5:17and it's not always where when I want to do this stuff and it's not always it's
- 5:21not always good time either.
- 5:23But, you know, I didn't drink on good times either. You know,
- 5:26I didn't do the things selfishly that I wanted in good times for other people.
- 5:30You know, I was thinking about this other day, you know, I had to be late somewhere.
- 5:35Well, if I was late somewhere, one of God's kids was sitting around waiting
- 5:41on me because of my selfish needs.
- 5:45And they didn't like that. And they don't like that. I'm not always on time,
- 5:49but I try to practice to be on time places.
- 5:52But going back to that, you know, I do this stuff because I like the effect
- 5:56produced, not because I like doing it.
- 5:59Sometimes it's really cool doing it, but it's not all the time.
- 6:04It goes in to say, the Father does not ask for a polished version of me. He asks for all of me.
- 6:12Jesus shows what it means to live fully surrendered. So I think,
- 6:16you know, in the Bible, it shows me different ways and different ways how Jesus
- 6:19was. I don't think I know.
- 6:21And I'm trying to be more like Jesus, if I understand this correctly.
- 6:28And Jesus was of service to all humans.
- 6:32It doesn't matter your race, creed, color, where you're from,
- 6:35how much money you made, any of that.
- 6:38To be of service to all humans, to love all humans as the same.
- 6:44And I think that's important to me. I think in the book, it kind of talks about
- 6:50that in the fifth step a little bit.
- 6:53But it talks about more than most people, the alcoholic leads a double life.
- 6:58He is very much the actor. The outer world, he presents as stage character.
- 7:03So all these different people I'm treating differently because of this stage
- 7:07character, because I think I need to act this way to you, this way to you,
- 7:11but I don't want to be just Corey.
- 7:13I don't, like, for some reason, like, that's the last result,
- 7:16right? Because I think I know how you need me to be.
- 7:20And on top of that, I think I know what's best for you to even want.
- 7:25Man, you know, it's such a weird deal because to think I know best for you.
- 7:30And it's hard for me to just know what's best for me someday.
- 7:33And it goes on to say, the Holy Spirit works in every part of my life.
- 7:38And so in the seventh step, we're in the seventh step. So, you know,
- 7:42this good thing, you know, it says, the seven step prayer of my creator,
- 7:46I'm now willing that you should have all of me, good and bad.
- 7:50Because I've never, I don't know some days what's in the bad.
- 7:53I don't know some days what's in the good.
- 7:56Because I think whatever I think is good, sometimes it's bad.
- 7:59What I thought was bad became my greatest asset today of helping other people
- 8:04that had the same problem as I do.
- 8:07So, you know, and I think God, you know, and I think, I know,
- 8:13I've watched, has used my defects to help others.
- 8:19There's no other way around that. And because this prayer tells me,
- 8:24too, it says, I pray that you now remove from me every single defect of character,
- 8:28which stands in the way of my usefulness to you and my fellows.
- 8:32I don't know what those defects of characters are.
- 8:36Then it says, removing what is harmful and strengthening what is good.
- 8:40So I don't know which one's which. I'm just asking God to use me,
- 8:44to use me in whatever he needs me to do.
- 8:47And that's kind of a daunting thing to say, too, because I don't know,
- 8:53and that's kind of leaving me to the stone when I give God all of me,
- 8:58not the parts I like, because I don't know what God needs of me at that day.
- 9:02I don't know if God needs me to be this or this. I'm just going at,
- 9:07you know, and God's directing me.
- 9:10On page 77 of the big book, it says our real purpose is to fit ourselves to
- 9:14be of maximum service to God and the people about us. That's my real purpose.
- 9:19So you got a primary purpose too, and the program I'm in is to carry this message
- 9:23to the alcoholic who still suffers.
- 9:26And so my primary purpose and my real purpose is that I kind of have an idea of what I'm doing here.
- 9:33I kind of like where in the practical it says, I'll stop hiding my weakness
- 9:38or pretending I have it all together.
- 9:41I'll be honest about both my strengths and my struggles. Well,
- 9:45in the big book in Bill's story, Honesty, it says on page 13,
- 9:52belief in the power of God.
- 9:55So belief in the power of God plus enough willingness.
- 9:59Well, I think the willingness and just the way I kind of understand my life
- 10:03and understand some of the literature and even understand some of the literature in the Bible,
- 10:08the willingness comes from empty hopeless don't know which way is up so now
- 10:14i'm accepting directions from this you know in our in the book of alcohol synonymous
- 10:18it says we had a new employer,
- 10:21so now i'm accepting direction from and with that being said you know that goes
- 10:27on to say this is cool too you know we had a new employer being all powerful
- 10:32he provided what we need if we kept close to him and performed his work well.
- 10:36Well, you know, the work's only, I mean, I only think there's a couple of things
- 10:40that the work could be, and I would imagine one of them's truth.
- 10:43My big book tells me that, and the other one's probably love.
- 10:48You know, and if I look at God as God is love.
- 10:51Because I think that there's a lot of people that are like, I don't know what
- 10:54God is. And I don't, man, I can't, how could you comprehend a supreme being?
- 11:02But I will tell you, truth is probably one of those things.
- 11:06And love is probably the other. And so how do I show love? How can I just be
- 11:10of love? How do I do that? Imagine being of service.
- 11:15Plus enough willingness, honesty.
- 11:18And so honesty and humility to establish and maintain the new order of things
- 11:23were the essential requirements essential requirements are very big words to someone like me,
- 11:30it's like a must it's like bigger than a must i think,
- 11:35then it goes on to say simple but not easy a price had to be paid but yeah and
- 11:38what's the price being paid,
- 11:42i would say is light compared to how i treated others,
- 11:45that meant destruction of self-centeredness, me getting out of me,
- 11:50you know, destruct, you know, because how well does it work?
- 11:53How well is me just being self-centered work?
- 11:57And, you know, I think that that's the, that's one of the requirements because
- 12:02it says on page 60, and my friend, a friend of mine, he likes to talk about
- 12:06this. And he asked me the other day, he's like, what's the first requirement?
- 12:10And the first requirement is that we be convinced that any life run on self-will
- 12:14self-will can hardly be a success. It can hardly be a success.
- 12:20My life, just wanting for me, hasn't worked yet.
- 12:25But then it goes on to say most people try to live by self-propulsion.
- 12:28But the thing is, I'm not like most people.
- 12:31My drinking career has showed that. And so I don't get to live.
- 12:36I mean, you know, maybe this is wrong, but I believe it's right.
- 12:40Because it says on page 30, the delusion that we were like other people,
- 12:43we're presently maybe, right now, me right now, according to this thing,
- 12:48says we're presently maybe has to be smashed.
- 12:52So I don't get to live like I see other people and maybe other people aren't
- 12:56living how I think they're living anyways because maybe I have no idea how they're
- 13:01living but I you know I'm really a big fan of this page and,
- 13:08on 164, it says, abandon yourself to God as you understand God.
- 13:13And that's kind of what it's saying.
- 13:17When I give all of me to God, not just the parts I like, that's abandoning myself
- 13:22to God as I understand God.
- 13:23And understanding what I'm doing too, because I've been thinking about that a lot lately.
- 13:28Me believing in what I'm doing, and if it's good, I believe that's good.
- 13:33Not just because this is what I'm doing is good, but if what you're doing is
- 13:38good and you believe that's good and it checks out, it's good,
- 13:41right? I mean, I don't know what that even means, but, you know,
- 13:44I mean, we had moral and philosophical convictions.
- 13:48Does what you're doing live up to them? And I don't know, but I had to kind
- 13:53of run that through the litmus test, and who knows?
- 13:57I mean, I don't even know what was
- 13:58good and bad, so maybe what everybody's doing is just what they can do.
- 14:01And hopefully, you know, and I imagine most people think it's good,
- 14:05but as a stand up against everything.
- 14:08And I have to be honest with other dudes about that and that,
- 14:12you know, usually, you know, those people I talk to kind of,
- 14:15if I'm getting a little on one side of the realm of things, you know,
- 14:20they push me and tell me to get my stuff together.
- 14:22Right. Because that's what I would hope they do.
- 14:26And God leads me through different people because we came into this thing is
- 14:30God either everything or God's nothing.
- 14:32And I believe today God's everything and the more awake I come to be today is
- 14:38I can see that God's everything more and more and more.
- 14:42I think that's a promise in this work.
- 14:46But thank you guys for another day on here.
- 14:50It says prayer. Father God, I give you all of me today, the good and the bad,
- 14:55Through your Holy Spirit, remove what does not belong and strengthen what does.
- 14:59Shape my life through the example of Jesus and use me for love and service. Amen.
- 15:07Have a good day.
