Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello Watt Spoilers fans, This week going to be a
- 0:05Speaker 1: bit of a departure from our usual content. Over the
- 0:08Speaker 1: last several episodes, we've been teasing you that we're starting
- 0:12Speaker 1: a new project, and the time to unveil it is now.
- 0:16Speaker 1: We are doing a first time reader podcast of the
- 0:19Speaker 1: Dungeon Crawler Carl book series, where I am the newbie
- 0:23Speaker 1: and Seth is the veteran reader. If you haven't started
- 0:26Speaker 1: the books yet, now would be a great time, Or
- 0:30Speaker 1: you can just listen to me reacting to the first
- 0:32Speaker 1: few chapters cold that will probably be nearly as much fun.
- 0:35Speaker 1: We hope that you enjoy this very UNWAT like side
- 0:39Speaker 1: quest while we get our momentum for the new year
- 0:41Speaker 1: built up, and that you will join us over on
- 0:44Speaker 1: the podcast at donut feed when that is available. That's right,
- 0:49Speaker 1: you are experiencing the world premiere of our new podcast
- 0:53Speaker 1: before literally anybody else's. You are listening to podcast it Donut,
- 1:04Speaker 1: a first time reader podcast about the Dungeon Crawler Carl
- 1:06Speaker 1: book series, hosted by Iridia and Seth. I am a Radia,
- 1:11Speaker 1: the first time reader who is crawling through the dungeon
- 1:13Speaker 1: for the first time, and.
- 1:15Speaker 2: I am Seth, the veteran reader who is guiding the show.
- 1:19Speaker 1: This podcast only contains spoilers up to where I have
- 1:21Speaker 1: read in a given episode, which this week is chapters
- 1:25Speaker 1: three through six. New Achievement Masochist. You're back after that
- 1:33Speaker 1: first episode. I'm not here to judge your taste, but
- 1:37Speaker 1: I'm going to anyway reward. I mean, if you keep listening,
- 1:43Speaker 1: we're going to keep making this thing.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Dead silence. This is good.
- 1:53Speaker 2: So that's here we are, and I'm recording as we
- 1:56Speaker 2: stop talking. Every time it's without failed, there's always that
- 1:59Speaker 2: like thirty seconds, so like, wait, we have the conversation going,
- 2:03Speaker 2: what did we do to it? Oh? We turn on
- 2:05Speaker 2: recording that killed it? Yeah?
- 2:06Speaker 1: Yeah, But this is episode two, recording two of our
- 2:11Speaker 1: Dungeon Crawler Carl first time reader podcast that has not
- 2:14Speaker 1: yet been.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Named, The Podcast that shall not be named.
- 2:17Speaker 3: It hasn't been named. It's going to be named at
- 2:19Speaker 3: some point.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Oh yeah, okay, good, shouldn't be named.
- 2:22Speaker 1: It shall be named, but it has not yet been named. Okay,
- 2:26Speaker 1: but uh, I think it's going to have to be named.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Because I am enjoying these books very much. I am
- 2:31Speaker 1: incredibly furious at the fact that I had to stop
- 2:35Speaker 1: because of making content. So that is definitely going to
- 2:37Speaker 1: be the dynamic. We're like, yes, I want to make content,
- 2:39Speaker 1: but also making content means that I have to only
- 2:42Speaker 1: read a certain set amount that this is going to
- 2:45Speaker 1: be frustrating for me.
- 2:46Speaker 3: I now have a whole new level.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Of appreciation for what Ali has gone through, because like
- 2:50Speaker 1: we did do Hot Nuance, where I did have to
- 2:52Speaker 1: read a book without without knowing what was going to happen.
- 2:55Speaker 3: But this is worse.
- 2:57Speaker 1: This book is snappier and more Cliff Hangary already, and
- 3:02Speaker 1: I really want to just blast through it.
- 3:04Speaker 3: And I'm not.
- 3:06Speaker 2: I recommended the books. You're the one who's like, should
- 3:08Speaker 2: we podcast through them? And I was like, sure, yeah,
- 3:11Speaker 2: you did this to yourself. You could have read them,
- 3:14Speaker 2: but no, you wanted to make a project out of it,
- 3:16Speaker 2: so suck it. I So today we read four chapters, right,
- 3:23Speaker 2: so we're going through it a good pace. We're going
- 3:25Speaker 2: to take this in chunks. We're not going to do
- 3:26Speaker 2: a chapter at a time. We need larger chunks. Right now,
- 3:30Speaker 2: we're looking at a you know, we started with the
- 3:32Speaker 2: two chapters just to introduce everything, and now we're doing
- 3:35Speaker 2: a four chapter chunk, and I think I want to
- 3:37Speaker 2: stick with about four chapters per episode. That gives us
- 3:41Speaker 2: twelve ish episodes per book.
- 3:44Speaker 3: That sounds good and that.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Feels like a reasonable pace. We can get through the
- 3:47Speaker 2: what's out so far in about two years. That feels
- 3:51Speaker 2: like a reasonable the compressed time for a podcast. Yeah,
- 3:54Speaker 2: there's one more book coming out, I think within that timeframe,
- 3:57Speaker 2: so yeah, it would be I think that is about
- 4:00Speaker 2: what we're looking at.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Yeah, and I am learning how to do a first
- 4:05Speaker 1: time reader podcast as definitely a different experience of trying
- 4:10Speaker 1: to process the book ahead of time. I kind of
- 4:12Speaker 1: want to take notes. I meant to take notes for
- 4:14Speaker 1: today's reading, but it just kind of forgot to do that.
- 4:18Speaker 1: But I am intending on trying to keep a notebook
- 4:20Speaker 1: and take some notes, like as I go through this,
- 4:23Speaker 1: because there's so I enjoyed this section so much. I
- 4:26Speaker 1: enjoyed getting backstory, I enjoyed getting more game mechanics. As
- 4:30Speaker 1: I was telling you earlier, it's annoying, like a tutorial
- 4:33Speaker 1: level is annoying, which is acceptable because it is a
- 4:36Speaker 1: tutorial level.
- 4:36Speaker 3: And I'm not mad about.
- 4:38Speaker 1: The weird tutorial level bullshit, because every game has that
- 4:43Speaker 1: every book has an exposition phase, Like it's perfectly fine,
- 4:46Speaker 1: and I'm having a lot of fun with the characters
- 4:48Speaker 1: as we're getting into it.
- 4:50Speaker 2: It's successfully pulled off the this is a video game
- 4:53Speaker 2: to you because it annoys you in the same way
- 4:55Speaker 2: a video game annoys you.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and I didn't know this was a genre to
- 4:59Speaker 1: not engage with or not before this, Like, I just
- 5:01Speaker 1: really didn't know about let RPG at all as a genre.
- 5:04Speaker 1: So it's not like I have pre assumptions about it
- 5:07Speaker 1: or have read other books that sucked in this genre. Like,
- 5:11Speaker 1: this is all very very new to me, which is
- 5:12Speaker 1: appropriate because I've really only ever played like an actual
- 5:16Speaker 1: handful of video games.
- 5:17Speaker 3: I've never been much of a video gamer.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I've gotten into a couple over my life, but it's
- 5:22Speaker 1: a very small piece of my life. So it's very
- 5:25Speaker 1: appropriate that I have no experience with this genre as
- 5:27Speaker 1: I'm leaping in and being like, Okay, I understand the
- 5:29Speaker 1: concept of a tutorial level, but like, I've never seen
- 5:32Speaker 1: it done badly. This seems to be done quite well.
- 5:35Speaker 1: This is my first time in this kind of thing.
- 5:38Speaker 2: The other book series I've seen recommended next to this
- 5:41Speaker 2: one is He Who fights with monsters both before, and
- 5:43Speaker 2: I've tried it both before and after I read Dungeon
- 5:46Speaker 2: Crawler Carl and I hated it both times. So that's
- 5:49Speaker 2: that's my only other experience with this genre. It reminds
- 5:52Speaker 2: me a lot of peers Anthony's writing.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Okay, which is an author I'm aware of but have
- 5:56Speaker 3: not read.
- 5:57Speaker 2: And I won't go into why, but it's just it didn't.
- 6:03Speaker 2: It didn't grab me either time. So I know there's
- 6:07Speaker 2: and there's other examples out there, and I need to
- 6:09Speaker 2: do my research because this is an intro into that genre.
- 6:12Speaker 2: But I think he's doing something with this that is unique,
- 6:16Speaker 2: and he's building something that is better than a lot
- 6:20Speaker 2: of other very formulaic RPGs.
- 6:24Speaker 3: I'm into it.
- 6:25Speaker 1: I'm into having my good luck streak of constantly running
- 6:28Speaker 1: into stuff at a very peak level of its quality.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Just continue through my life. That's fine, that's great.
- 6:34Speaker 1: So, yeah, remind me of the actual order of events
- 6:36Speaker 1: so I can tell you all about how I felt
- 6:38Speaker 1: about it.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Okay, So we are in with Mordecai. He gets a
- 6:42Speaker 2: little information about Mordecai level fifty rat right, and he's like, oh,
- 6:45Speaker 2: he's super powerful level yeah, which is some of the
- 6:50Speaker 2: later books you got to go, Okay, yeah, all right.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Well, I mean that's what it made me wonder, was
- 6:54Speaker 1: like how high did the levels go? Is level fifty
- 6:56Speaker 1: not that big of a deal or is it a
- 6:58Speaker 1: big deal? Like I know it's a bigger than Carl,
- 7:00Speaker 1: but like where does that act? Like I don't know
- 7:02Speaker 1: how big this curve? Oh, I have no idea where
- 7:05Speaker 1: fifty sits? Like on a scale of zero to max,
- 7:08Speaker 1: where is fifty? I have no idea.
- 7:10Speaker 2: That's interesting? Okay, a m I go to level.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Five hundred for all I know, or it might go
- 7:14Speaker 1: to level one hundred, or might go to level fifty
- 7:15Speaker 1: one or forty nine, Like I have no idea what
- 7:19Speaker 1: kind of scale we're working on. All I know is
- 7:20Speaker 1: that that's a lot more than Carl.
- 7:22Speaker 2: I think you can say it at least level fifty.
- 7:25Speaker 3: At least level fifty.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Clearly it's like he's not God and clearly and we
- 7:29Speaker 1: go through the chapter to the way he's talking like
- 7:31Speaker 1: I have to do this, I have to do that, Like, yeah,
- 7:33Speaker 1: clearly there's people higher than him, but what does that
- 7:36Speaker 1: mean in game mechanics?
- 7:38Speaker 2: And so then he basically walks in and says, Hey,
- 7:41Speaker 2: is this door the only way in and out? And
- 7:44Speaker 2: are those guys going to keep hanging out there?
- 7:48Speaker 1: Yeah, Carl is really quick on the strategics of this game.
- 7:52Speaker 1: He is not because I'm the kind of person I
- 7:54Speaker 1: play a video game that I will just sort of
- 7:56Speaker 1: stand there examining the room until the city guard shows
- 8:00Speaker 1: up and takes me off to prison because I didn't
- 8:02Speaker 1: know I was supposed to run away like that is
- 8:03Speaker 1: how I go through video games. So I'm impressed that
- 8:06Speaker 1: Karl is immediately like, where are those guys going? What
- 8:09Speaker 1: is going to happen? I need to and he goes
- 8:10Speaker 1: out and kills them. I would never be that smart.
- 8:13Speaker 1: I would definitely be among the first three million people
- 8:15Speaker 1: that died in this situation. If I got into the gate,
- 8:19Speaker 1: I would not last past the first five minutes.
- 8:21Speaker 2: I know myself. I'd die from something stupid pretty quick. Yeah. Yeah,
- 8:24Speaker 2: Well he's got some military training as well, Right, so
- 8:26Speaker 2: that's the sort of thinking.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Oh right, right, that's true. That's true. He's not just
- 8:31Speaker 1: in every guy. He's a guy that does have some
- 8:33Speaker 1: amount of skills from a chosen life path.
- 8:36Speaker 2: What did you think about some of the gore now
- 8:38Speaker 2: that we're you know, running over corpses and getting splattered
- 8:43Speaker 2: and that level of death.
- 8:46Speaker 1: I like that it is so brutally honest about video
- 8:52Speaker 1: game violence. I like that video game violence is both
- 8:56Speaker 1: real and serious that actually feel because because video games
- 9:01Speaker 1: are just so senselessly violin. There's huge piles of guts
- 9:04Speaker 1: because that's you know, the pixel size on your screen
- 9:07Speaker 1: to render and stuff, and to have it be real
- 9:13Speaker 1: and disgusting to the character. Right, he's like talking about,
- 9:16Speaker 1: like I can feel like raw meat between my toes
- 9:18Speaker 1: or whatever, and like that's so nasty.
- 9:22Speaker 2: What do you think about the die hardness of it? Right,
- 9:24Speaker 2: he has to go He's going around without shoes and
- 9:25Speaker 2: cutting his feet up on ladder.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Right, yeah, oh my god, and like doesn't notice the pain.
- 9:31Speaker 1: But then and the description of the healing potion and
- 9:33Speaker 1: working it just all feels so viscerally accurate.
- 9:36Speaker 3: To the experience of playing a video game.
- 9:38Speaker 1: And again, I don't know if that's standard fair for
- 9:40Speaker 1: this genre, but I'm enjoying it. There's something about it
- 9:44Speaker 1: that feels respectful is the wrong word, but it feels
- 9:47Speaker 1: more respectful than so many video games where you're just
- 9:51Speaker 1: dripping intestines everywhere constantly, and it's like never like in
- 9:56Speaker 1: the head of the character. I don't know, it's real
- 10:00Speaker 1: really graphic. But video games are by definition graphic because
- 10:04Speaker 1: they are like a graphic experience, you know, So.
- 10:08Speaker 3: I don't know, it's.
- 10:09Speaker 2: The graphic can be used two ways there for sure.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly exactly.
- 10:14Speaker 1: I'm I'm enjoying it while also watching through my fingers, right,
- 10:18Speaker 1: it's definitely all watching through my fingers kind of experience.
- 10:22Speaker 2: There's a moment where the Goblin tells him he's not
- 10:24Speaker 2: speaking his own language, he's speaking syndicate.
- 10:27Speaker 1: That reminded me of that scene in whichever one of
- 10:31Speaker 1: the Doctors it was that picked up Rose the first
- 10:33Speaker 1: time in Doctor Who, and.
- 10:35Speaker 3: She was like, what, your machine's in my head?
- 10:37Speaker 1: I didn't give you permission for that, Like, because isn't
- 10:40Speaker 1: Hitchiker's get to the galaxy?
- 10:41Speaker 3: He knows he's getting a fish stuffed in his ear?
- 10:43Speaker 2: I think so, Yeah, he gets the dobblefish inserted.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Yeah, he's aware of the fact that a fish is
- 10:48Speaker 1: going into his ear. He didn't exactly consent to it,
- 10:50Speaker 1: but at least it doesn't happen before he knows, you know,
- 10:53Speaker 1: Like this just that weird violation of like you can't
- 10:58Speaker 1: even speak English anymore, like you're speaking our language. We've
- 11:02Speaker 1: just like set what your language is going to be.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Is just I mean, obviously these people don't care about consent,
- 11:07Speaker 1: but it just really drives home, like the creep factor.
- 11:10Speaker 1: If they have the ultimate god powers though apparently not
- 11:14Speaker 1: perfect surveillance, which is interesting.
- 11:17Speaker 2: It takes attention. They have omnipotence, but not omnipresence.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Yeah, they don't have infinite processing power for all the
- 11:24Speaker 1: eyeballs that they can technically build it install.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Even the AI and a team of game.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Coordinators or whatever is actually not keeping up with the
- 11:33Speaker 1: sheer volume of data.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Fascinating little loophole.
- 11:37Speaker 2: I would I would suggest that the AI is perfectly
- 11:41Speaker 2: capable of it. It's the syndicate that is not. The
- 11:44Speaker 2: people who are not the government too, is not so.
- 11:47Speaker 3: The AI is.
- 11:49Speaker 1: That's that's interesting what Choy says, says the AI get
- 11:53Speaker 1: to make that are not syndicate approved.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Because the AI is everywhere. The eye is controlling like
- 11:58Speaker 2: you know, the environment, it's giving out notifications, it's giving
- 12:02Speaker 2: out the loot boxes like all of those.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Is it sentient? Is the AI sentient.
- 12:09Speaker 4: Oh my first, it sure seems I know, I know,
- 12:16Speaker 4: it could just be a series of cascading things to
- 12:20Speaker 4: make all of the notifications.
- 12:23Speaker 3: It just all.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Feels very targeted at this guy's personality. Maybe it's just
- 12:27Speaker 1: a weakness of the author that everything's snarky, but it
- 12:30Speaker 1: just it feels so personalized that I wonder if the
- 12:33Speaker 1: AI is smart.
- 12:35Speaker 2: The AI is certainly capable of personalizing those things, whether
- 12:38Speaker 2: it's sentient or not. Right, it's capable of personalizing the
- 12:41Speaker 2: achievements to the person.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Yeah, it doesn't mean it sentient, right, But I just
- 12:47Speaker 1: it's a very complex system, So I wonder if it
- 12:49Speaker 1: has to have sentience as an emergent property just to
- 12:52Speaker 1: keep up.
- 12:52Speaker 3: You know, it's a question.
- 12:55Speaker 2: That I have, good how do I answer the Yes,
- 13:03Speaker 2: you have questions. I like the I like that you
- 13:05Speaker 2: have questions. That's good.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Is there an answer to this by the point that
- 13:09Speaker 1: you're at in the books or is it still like
- 13:11Speaker 1: like the cat.
- 13:12Speaker 2: I am aware of the answer. Yes.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Okay, okay, so you really are ray throwing me, like
- 13:18Speaker 1: for reals, he as a spoiler person, not just because.
- 13:21Speaker 3: The books aren't finishing.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Yeah, yah ah, okay, all right, I'm going to figure
- 13:25Speaker 1: this out, I understand. Ali is like, I'm gonna I'm
- 13:29Speaker 1: going to quest for the answer before the books give its.
- 13:31Speaker 2: See now you can go back and like study the
- 13:32Speaker 2: old chapters and stuff like yeah.
- 13:35Speaker 3: Yeah, totally.
- 13:37Speaker 2: So you know, he goes out, he fights the goblins.
- 13:39Speaker 2: He throws the one onto the roller, he jumps on
- 13:42Speaker 2: top of the other one and squishes him, and he
- 13:45Speaker 2: literally squishes him like a jelly donut. Right, Like he's like, oh, gross,
- 13:49Speaker 2: a description of Carl. Right, He's this very large, athletic
- 13:53Speaker 2: person who's maybe not in the best shape of his life,
- 13:55Speaker 2: but still in pretty good shape. Right. He works out
- 13:57Speaker 2: and all that kind of stuff. So he gets the
- 13:59Speaker 2: stat that's like strength of six, which is above most people,
- 14:02Speaker 2: and he's got a few other skills, right.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, it was interesting seeing the stats. He's like, yeah,
- 14:08Speaker 1: he's big and strong and not too dumb. I liked
- 14:14Speaker 1: the little discussion he had with Mordecai where they the
- 14:18Speaker 1: difference between wisdom and intelligence.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Mm hmmm.
- 14:20Speaker 1: It's the thing that I think a lot of players
- 14:22Speaker 1: of any kind of game, with those sorts of stats,
- 14:24Speaker 1: you don't necessarily understand the difference. And it was just
- 14:27Speaker 1: nice that the game that the book was like specifically,
- 14:30Speaker 1: we are going to articulate this difference just to try
- 14:32Speaker 1: to get everyone to understand what we mean in this
- 14:35Speaker 1: book by these words, whatever your confusion is, this is
- 14:38Speaker 1: what we mean.
- 14:39Speaker 2: The wisdom changing personality is one of those things I've
- 14:42Speaker 2: seen a lot of speculation about where people are trying
- 14:45Speaker 2: to figure out what does that do If your wisdom
- 14:49Speaker 2: were to change, how would that affect your personality? That's
- 14:52Speaker 2: a stat that you could adjust because they said, like,
- 14:54Speaker 2: we don't do that anymore because that affects your personality,
- 14:56Speaker 2: And so I'm like, what do you think? What effect
- 14:58Speaker 2: do you think that would have on a crawler if
- 15:01Speaker 2: their wisdom was adjusted.
- 15:03Speaker 1: I think it probably would affect the problem solving process,
- 15:09Speaker 1: like the entire way that you approach a puzzle or
- 15:13Speaker 1: a situation like this. The decision tree would get reworked
- 15:17Speaker 1: from like the ground up, and like the emergent ripple
- 15:20Speaker 1: effects would just be a completely different decision for how
- 15:24Speaker 1: you approach a problem, how you make a choice. I
- 15:26Speaker 1: think that's what wisdom would do, is it would just
- 15:29Speaker 1: change your entire decision tree, everything that you wait in
- 15:33Speaker 1: that And how.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Does that affect your personality. Is it just because like
- 15:37Speaker 2: your interactions with other people have decision trees, right, and
- 15:39Speaker 2: so you're making different decisions when you're interacting with people.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Or I mean I think you'd had different priorities. It's
- 15:45Speaker 1: not just like an intellectual exercise. I think you would
- 15:47Speaker 1: like prioritize different things, you know, Like maybe you'd instead
- 15:50Speaker 1: of being like I'll just hit stuff, you'd be like, oh,
- 15:52Speaker 1: I'm going to mind max my way through, right, Like
- 15:55Speaker 1: that would completely change all of your decisions, not just intellectually,
- 15:59Speaker 1: but like, yeah, strategically, where do you go?
- 16:02Speaker 3: How do you prioritize your loot?
- 16:04Speaker 1: How do you choose to interact with characters or not
- 16:07Speaker 1: like or other crawlers? Right? Like, your desire to be
- 16:11Speaker 1: as soloist or in a team might change based on
- 16:15Speaker 1: like how much you want to strategize with taking advantage
- 16:18Speaker 1: of other people. Like, maybe you lose empathy because you're like, oh,
- 16:21Speaker 1: empathy is a drag, right, Caring about other people is
- 16:24Speaker 1: not strategically viable.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Maybe wisdom takes you into being like.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Well, if this point is to win, then strategy over empathy.
- 16:30Speaker 1: You know, that would change your personality if you didn't
- 16:33Speaker 1: care about people, or maybe that'd be more of an
- 16:35Speaker 1: intelligence thing. I don't know, Like I said, I'm not
- 16:36Speaker 1: good at knowing the difference between these two things, And
- 16:38Speaker 1: so I appreciated the book trying to give.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Us a definition.
- 16:42Speaker 2: An example of intelligence is knowing it's the police officer's car.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Wisdom is telling me not to piss on the wheel.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think maybe if you change your wisdom
- 16:51Speaker 1: to be even higher, like you know, wisdom is pinning
- 16:55Speaker 1: it on someone, Like higher wisdom would be like, oh,
- 16:56Speaker 1: pens pin it on a homeless guy, because then we
- 16:58Speaker 1: both get out of trouble or something. But I do
- 17:01Speaker 1: think it's interesting that only some stats can be changed
- 17:03Speaker 1: and other stats have to be kept the same, Like
- 17:05Speaker 1: there are rules that exceed even the syndicate, Like there
- 17:08Speaker 1: is something about the free will sentient being that is
- 17:13Speaker 1: bigger than the game and some level.
- 17:15Speaker 2: So the dose are jumping back a little bit in time.
- 17:18Speaker 2: The dozer explodes, he's in the safe room at that moment,
- 17:21Speaker 2: and so he sort of get this idea of like, oh,
- 17:23Speaker 2: the safe room can save you from like things that
- 17:26Speaker 2: are happening directly outside if you get inside.
- 17:29Speaker 1: But he bends the infrastructure of the game almost to
- 17:31Speaker 1: the breaking point. Mordecai is like, the fuck, I'm not
- 17:33Speaker 1: supposed to feel any explosions in here, Like, so Carl
- 17:37Speaker 1: is already breaking the game.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Oh yeah a little bit. And that was a directed explosion,
- 17:43Speaker 2: which I think is important. Right, that's one of the
- 17:45Speaker 2: reasons why it was so powerful directed explosions, and that's
- 17:48Speaker 2: establishes in this game that directed explosions are actually more
- 17:50Speaker 2: powerful than general explosions.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Which makes sense because it's the same amount of explosion
- 17:54Speaker 1: in a smaller area.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:56Speaker 1: I think it's really interesting that he is already surprising
- 18:00Speaker 1: game master, breaking the rules, doing unexpected things like getting
- 18:04Speaker 1: a legendary box for reasons that I don't think we're
- 18:06Speaker 1: adequately explained, you know, Like there's a lot where it's like, okay,
- 18:10Speaker 1: this is a unique character because a lot of things
- 18:14Speaker 1: are breaking his way in ways that are kind of
- 18:16Speaker 1: tevere and like, you know, to use a wheel of
- 18:19Speaker 1: time reference. He's definitely got plot armor as one of
- 18:22Speaker 1: his entry level achievements, and.
- 18:24Speaker 2: There's some speculation for sure, like exactly what is the
- 18:27Speaker 2: source of that plot armor? Is it just plot armor?
- 18:30Speaker 2: Is it?
- 18:30Speaker 1: I guess we're gonna have to rapho, aren't we since
- 18:33Speaker 1: the series isn't done yet, you know, I'd like.
- 18:37Speaker 2: You to maybe keep an eye on that and see
- 18:39Speaker 2: what you think if you have any theories. Okay, because
- 18:42Speaker 2: I have theories. We get a little bit of history
- 18:45Speaker 2: about Mordecai.
- 18:46Speaker 1: I've got a lot bit of history about Mordecai. Like,
- 18:49Speaker 1: I mean, he's got his mother's ashes, which the cat knocks.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Over, which is freaking hilarious. Like cats, cats, Why are cats?
- 18:58Speaker 3: I love cats?
- 18:59Speaker 1: But like it's a whole thing where he's like kind
- 19:02Speaker 1: of a hostage, but also he was like kind of
- 19:04Speaker 1: a badassed elver because he did get to level eleven
- 19:07Speaker 1: and no one gets past thirteen, and like but he's
- 19:09Speaker 1: also on a contract. But he's also and like in
- 19:12Speaker 1: the concept of like the shape shifting every.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Time, like he's in a It feels like.
- 19:16Speaker 1: One of those things where like, yes, you work for
- 19:18Speaker 1: the mob, but it's because your alternative was to sleep
- 19:21Speaker 1: with the fishes, but like they will take care of
- 19:25Speaker 1: your mama at the same time, and like make sure
- 19:28Speaker 1: that like the school that your kid goes to like
- 19:30Speaker 1: has textbooks. It's I don't know, it feels really weird,
- 19:34Speaker 1: Like the protection racket energy coming off of his backstory
- 19:38Speaker 1: is fucked up. And also just like the haunting way
- 19:41Speaker 1: that he did not answer questions about what happened to
- 19:44Speaker 1: his homeworld or why he can't go back. It's just like,
- 19:47Speaker 1: I don't even need you to tell me to rafo
- 19:50Speaker 1: right there.
- 19:50Speaker 3: That was a rafau just in the text.
- 19:52Speaker 1: There is there is some traumatic bullshit we are going
- 19:55Speaker 1: to reveal in however many books. I'm assuming that's nowhere
- 19:59Speaker 1: near this book. I'm assuming that is later because that
- 20:02Speaker 1: felt like a huge looming shadow that he just skipped
- 20:06Speaker 1: on past.
- 20:07Speaker 2: I will say this, it doesn't happen. You don't get
- 20:09Speaker 2: the backstory all at once. Yeah.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Yeah, this does not feel like a quick backstory. This
- 20:13Speaker 1: feels like a slow burn backstory for sure. And like
- 20:17Speaker 1: no one ever gets past level thirteen. What, yeah, but
- 20:21Speaker 1: there's eighteen levels?
- 20:23Speaker 3: Yeah, what do you mean? What do you mean?
- 20:26Speaker 2: No one even knows what those last five levels even look?
- 20:29Speaker 1: Like me telling me that they build these five levels
- 20:32Speaker 1: every time and no one gets there. That is this
- 20:35Speaker 1: This game makes no sense as a financial venture.
- 20:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I can tell you a little bit about why
- 20:41Speaker 2: they I think we know a little bit about why
- 20:43Speaker 2: they exist. But we'll find out when we get there, Okay,
- 20:47Speaker 2: because I don't think he necessarily knew when he was
- 20:49Speaker 2: writing this book.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Sure, sure, if I have the world isms kind of,
- 20:53Speaker 1: because this is the beginning and there.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Certainly are a few I of the world isms in here,
- 20:57Speaker 2: like things where Mordecai says this is going to be
- 20:59Speaker 2: on that level and I'm like, I don't remember that. Sure, sure,
- 21:04Speaker 2: so this is, but it's also the point where like
- 21:08Speaker 2: the game changes every time, so he can never be
- 21:11Speaker 2: entirely sure about what's coming. So Mordecai's information, while accurate,
- 21:18Speaker 2: is or is not necessarily up to date.
- 21:21Speaker 1: It's so interesting how they co opt at least some
- 21:25Speaker 1: crawlers to become part of the game, Like that is
- 21:30Speaker 1: a fascinating and twisted way to make the game, Like
- 21:34Speaker 1: there's something really fucked up about that. First you get
- 21:37Speaker 1: sucked in against your will, and then you become someone
- 21:40Speaker 1: who is actually making the machine run to grind up
- 21:43Speaker 1: more people. That's it's like the game is still going
- 21:47Speaker 1: on them, Like you're still playing the game by surviving
- 21:52Speaker 1: as a gatekeeper of the game.
- 21:54Speaker 3: You know, like this is this is twisted.
- 21:57Speaker 1: The people paying for this, the people watching this are twisted,
- 22:01Speaker 1: sick fucks like this is the Hunger and also like
- 22:05Speaker 1: all those whole thing about sponsorships and viewerships is like
- 22:08Speaker 1: The Hunger Games definitely has some DNA threaded in here,
- 22:11Speaker 1: for sure, for sure, for sure that part the weird
- 22:15Speaker 1: like forced prostitution of your entire survival arc is so gross.
- 22:22Speaker 1: A good commentary on capitalism and the Internet and the
- 22:25Speaker 1: attention economy and chasing the algorithm, but oh so gross.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Yeah, and the corporation running this one is the Borring Corporation. Yeah, no,
- 22:32Speaker 2: I mean you just think about the numbers, right, first
- 22:33Speaker 2: of all, like the number of people who died when
- 22:35Speaker 2: the earth collapsed, and then already we've lost three million
- 22:38Speaker 2: out of the you know, three millions out of the
- 22:40Speaker 2: thirteen million. You know, that's that's nearly what twenty five
- 22:44Speaker 2: percent basically of the remaining the people who.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Entered, right, yeah, right, absolute bloodbath here at the start.
- 22:52Speaker 3: And still ten million people is a lot.
- 22:54Speaker 1: That's a lot of people that are going to die
- 22:57Speaker 1: over just the next few levels, because that's how this
- 23:01Speaker 1: sort of thing works.
- 23:03Speaker 3: It's a pyramid shape, you know.
- 23:06Speaker 2: But then you look at the number of people, quintillions
- 23:09Speaker 2: of citizens of the Syndicate. Right, this is a multiplanet
- 23:14Speaker 2: you know, they have one of these. They sacrifice a
- 23:16Speaker 2: planet for a TV show every two and a half years.
- 23:21Speaker 3: I mean, they've got to.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Be spread out across at least a quarter of the
- 23:24Speaker 1: entire Milky Way in order to have that kind of
- 23:27Speaker 1: of reach.
- 23:28Speaker 3: That's ridiculous so much Aliens.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Also the whole thing about like seeding planets with like
- 23:34Speaker 1: different races and like humans are some of the weak ones.
- 23:36Speaker 1: It's just like, oh, Panspermia just got a dark twist.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Uh huh.
- 23:40Speaker 1: That's the darkest twist on Panspermia I have ever heard.
- 23:45Speaker 2: And there'll be more details on that, for sure.
- 23:48Speaker 1: I should freaking hope. So you can't just have that
- 23:50Speaker 1: be the entire world. But like I know, spare world
- 23:51Speaker 1: building is an effective tool of sci fi. But I'm
- 23:53Speaker 1: going to need more more revealed about why humans are
- 23:57Speaker 1: one of six seed races for this game.
- 24:00Speaker 2: What and so we give accesses to access to the
- 24:17Speaker 2: crawler menu. What do you think about the inventory?
- 24:21Speaker 1: Well, first of all, Balder's Gate three has a horrible
- 24:23Speaker 1: inventory interface and I hate it.
- 24:26Speaker 3: So inventory menus are a thing I think need to.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Be really good I think inventories need to be well constructed,
- 24:31Speaker 1: and it's very hard to comprehend a video game layout
- 24:35Speaker 1: inventory in a linear form like an audiobook. It's a
- 24:38Speaker 1: very difficult medium to translate a layout through. But I
- 24:41Speaker 1: did enjoy it in terms of the structure, and then
- 24:44Speaker 1: the way that we skip it starts to get a
- 24:46Speaker 1: little tedious and ridiculous, and then we just start closing
- 24:48Speaker 1: stuff out.
- 24:50Speaker 2: So in this one, let me read it. Last season
- 24:52Speaker 2: it was a slot based system. It allowed you to
- 24:55Speaker 2: carry multiple items, but it was limited in capacity and
- 24:57Speaker 2: had a weight limit. This season, each crawlers given dimensional
- 25:01Speaker 2: inventory an ai CAT cataloging system. What does that mean.
- 25:07Speaker 2: It's a good thing. Basically unlimited storage and if you
- 25:11Speaker 2: can physically lift it off the ground by yourself for
- 25:13Speaker 2: about four seconds, you can put it in your space
- 25:16Speaker 2: no matter how big it is. The only rules you
- 25:19Speaker 2: can't store living creatures. They will immediately die. Also, the
- 25:22Speaker 2: storage is time locked, so food doesn't go bad. That's
- 25:26Speaker 2: a big one. We had that last issue last season
- 25:29Speaker 2: with crawlers starving to death. So I think that's a powerful,
- 25:33Speaker 2: powerful tool.
- 25:34Speaker 3: It's bigger on the inside.
- 25:35Speaker 2: It's bigger on the inside.
- 25:36Speaker 3: It's time locked and it can hold things ofp to
- 25:40Speaker 3: infinite way.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Also the whole thing about hot barring your potions and
- 25:44Speaker 1: stuff and being able to store them up to like
- 25:46Speaker 1: ninety nine thousand or whatever.
- 25:48Speaker 3: Like it just it's a good game layout. It's a
- 25:52Speaker 3: good design. I like it. It's so unrealistic. I love it.
- 25:56Speaker 2: I think it's part of the appeal is like this
- 25:57Speaker 2: actually sounds like a fun game to play if you
- 25:59Speaker 2: were to actually right, like unlimited inventory, not having to
- 26:02Speaker 2: worry about inventory management because there's an AI who's going
- 26:04Speaker 2: to sort it for you and bring up the things
- 26:07Speaker 2: you want really quickly, right, Like it's it sounds great
- 26:11Speaker 2: and like it takes a lot of the anxiety out
- 26:13Speaker 2: of the game.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, A well set up inventory and hot bar
- 26:17Speaker 1: is so important.
- 26:18Speaker 3: For smooth game interfacing.
- 26:19Speaker 1: And also I love the little comment like, oh, yeah,
- 26:21Speaker 1: you'll want to use the hot key to consume potions
- 26:23Speaker 1: because some of them taste bad. You don't want to
- 26:25Speaker 1: like actually drink them. You want to just use a
- 26:27Speaker 1: little game mechanic to like apply them without drinking them.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Like these funny little things of applying video game rules
- 26:33Speaker 1: to real life and real life to video games and
- 26:36Speaker 1: just like the funny incongruities there.
- 26:39Speaker 2: I like that detail, and so I thought this was
- 26:41Speaker 2: funny when market I goes, oh, you got a legendary
- 26:44Speaker 2: pet box? Why didn't you say so? And Carl's been
- 26:47Speaker 2: asking repeatedly if you can open his boxes, yet after
- 26:49Speaker 2: every lesson, Rights were saying no, not yet, kid, we don't.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Will talk about the boxes later. And then he's like,
- 26:55Speaker 2: legendary box, why didn't you say so? And Carl's like
- 26:58Speaker 2: you I thought that was a good moment, so funny.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Yeah, it was a very good dynamic. And then we
- 27:04Speaker 1: finally get to the boxes. I was also very anxious
- 27:06Speaker 1: to know what kind of loot you would get, what
- 27:08Speaker 1: kind of weird stuff was going to be in there?
- 27:10Speaker 2: Okay, what did you think about the announcements in the boxes? Right?
- 27:13Speaker 2: Because there was like, first of all, all the achievements,
- 27:16Speaker 2: and then he gets all the boxes and then he
- 27:17Speaker 2: has to open all the boxes, and so that's where
- 27:19Speaker 2: a lot of things is a lot of that game
- 27:21Speaker 2: mechanic in there.
- 27:22Speaker 1: That's where it's annoying in a tutorial level kind of way.
- 27:26Speaker 3: And I'm like, well, this is good.
- 27:27Speaker 1: I'm getting a feel for the stuff that we're clicking past,
- 27:30Speaker 1: and a lot of the things were really dumb and
- 27:33Speaker 1: in a way that.
- 27:33Speaker 3: Felt very appropriate.
- 27:34Speaker 1: But you get a few healing potions and you get
- 27:36Speaker 1: like a rubber chicken and a toe ring. And then
- 27:41Speaker 1: this was one of the notes I sent you, was
- 27:43Speaker 1: the pot Ophelia comment was like, hey, that's my kink.
- 27:49Speaker 1: And because you had mentioned before that he has the
- 27:50Speaker 1: prettiest feet and that that's relevant and that was just
- 27:53Speaker 1: a weird throwaway line you gave me before I ever
- 27:54Speaker 1: started reading it.
- 27:55Speaker 3: Here's the first foot fetish joke.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Okay, okay, And then I've been a toe ring, so
- 28:01Speaker 1: I guess that's two weird things about feet. I also
- 28:04Speaker 1: love that the tow ring has to be uncomfortable, like
- 28:06Speaker 1: it will resize itself to fit, but it also will
- 28:08Speaker 1: be uncomfortable.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Just ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous.
- 28:12Speaker 2: Uh.
- 28:13Speaker 1: He's now branded as like friendly with goblins, but he'll
- 28:16Speaker 1: get attacked by creatures that don't like goblins. Like the
- 28:18Speaker 1: way he's just accumulating not just loot, but like game settings,
- 28:23Speaker 1: like certain story paths are being cut off or opened,
- 28:27Speaker 1: and like narrowing his options and really like forcing him
- 28:30Speaker 1: into something that's closer and closer to an archetypal character
- 28:33Speaker 1: and less of just a blank template of a man
- 28:36Speaker 1: mm hmm.
- 28:36Speaker 2: And the way, just like surviving has forced him into
- 28:39Speaker 2: those sort of choices.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Right right, I like a game that will give you
- 28:43Speaker 1: accomplishments just for doing stuff that kind of helps set
- 28:46Speaker 1: the role play and set the direction you're going in.
- 28:49Speaker 1: It's I think it's a handy way to reduce the
- 28:51Speaker 1: options paralysis.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Two things he does put on are the night daunt
- 28:55Speaker 2: cloak of stoutness and the enchanted troll skin shirt of pummeling,
- 29:00Speaker 2: both of which are actually pretty valuable items.
- 29:02Speaker 1: And to make him between that and the tow ring
- 29:04Speaker 1: make him stronger than almost in a human who's ever lived.
- 29:06Speaker 1: According to Mark, right out of the gate, he is
- 29:09Speaker 1: now getting close to Superman in terms of his walking
- 29:13Speaker 1: around presence. He can't fly, but he is literally like
- 29:16Speaker 1: one of the strongest punchers that the human species has
- 29:19Speaker 1: ever produced now because of power ups.
- 29:20Speaker 3: Just like right out of the gate.
- 29:21Speaker 2: He is level two well I mean like yeah, I
- 29:23Speaker 2: mean the shirt like multiplies his strength by five, right,
- 29:26Speaker 2: just like, whatever whatever his strength is, you take even
- 29:29Speaker 2: like the work weakest person. If you won't why there's
- 29:31Speaker 2: strength by five. That's a very strong person.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Right right, And apparently it might make female trolls amorous
- 29:36Speaker 1: towards him, So I'm curious if that's going to be
- 29:38Speaker 1: a problem at some point, Rafo.
- 29:43Speaker 2: The thing is like, oh yeah, this is gonna be fun.
- 29:46Speaker 2: This is this is so much fun as a new reader,
- 29:49Speaker 2: like to fuck with you a little bit. And of
- 29:52Speaker 2: course then the legendary box is the enchanted pet biscuits.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Yes, which I was like as soon as I saw
- 30:00Speaker 1: it was a magic pet biscuit and it was legendary
- 30:02Speaker 1: and stuff. I was like, Okay, this is how we
- 30:05Speaker 1: make Donut into being someone who could communicate more clearly
- 30:08Speaker 1: with Karl. I don't know how, but I know that
- 30:12Speaker 1: the cat is a presence, at least up until book seven.
- 30:14Speaker 1: The cat is a very important part of it. People
- 30:16Speaker 1: make jokes about Donut, like I know that Donut is important.
- 30:20Speaker 1: So she's either going to get a voice, become telepathic,
- 30:23Speaker 1: get apposable thumbs, like get like a speech bubble, you know,
- 30:28Speaker 1: like heads up attached, like something, something involving her ability
- 30:31Speaker 1: to interact with Carl was gonna get an upgrade. So
- 30:33Speaker 1: I wasn't worried when she turned into a pile of goo.
- 30:35Speaker 1: I was like, whatever, it's fine, Like, we're gonna get
- 30:37Speaker 1: a communication power up, but how is the communication power
- 30:40Speaker 1: up going to come through? I was like, this is absurd.
- 30:43Speaker 1: This book is absurd. I have no idea how it's
- 30:46Speaker 1: gonna be weird. There's gonna be a twist. And I
- 30:50Speaker 1: was so excited. I was so freaking excited to have
- 30:52Speaker 1: Donut have more personality.
- 30:54Speaker 3: And I was not disappointed.
- 30:59Speaker 1: I had to go back and re listen to the
- 31:01Speaker 1: end of the chapter just because the voice in the
- 31:03Speaker 1: audio book is so amazing. I just, oh my god,
- 31:08Speaker 1: I'm so here for Donut. I'm so here for Donut
- 31:11Speaker 1: having this voice.
- 31:12Speaker 2: So there's a couple of moments I want to talk about.
- 31:14Speaker 2: One the fact that he was thinking about selling it
- 31:17Speaker 2: and not giving it to her.
- 31:18Speaker 3: And Okay, first of all, fuck him for that.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Okay, I was curious what your reaction to that was.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Fuck him for that. Negative fifty points, negative fifty points.
- 31:27Speaker 1: I don't like Carl for the fact is cool, Like, no, no,
- 31:31Speaker 1: all of all the good plot is lying in that,
- 31:33Speaker 1: in that little kibble. If you try to sell that, like,
- 31:35Speaker 1: first of all, your shithead for wanting to sell it,
- 31:37Speaker 1: but also, this book will not be nearly as much
- 31:39Speaker 1: fun if you sell it. So like I was like
- 31:40Speaker 1: just waiting for Donut to come up and grab it.
- 31:43Speaker 1: I'm like, surely it's attractive enough to her because it's
- 31:46Speaker 1: meant to be, like the snacks are supposed to be appealing.
- 31:48Speaker 1: I'm like, surely she's just gonna come take She has
- 31:50Speaker 1: no respect, and it's supposed to be appealing, right, and
- 31:52Speaker 1: we need it for plot, like shut up, Carl your
- 31:54Speaker 1: ship head.
- 31:56Speaker 2: Yeah, and then he sure's just leaping up and snagging
- 31:59Speaker 2: it out of his hand, so it's such a cat
- 32:00Speaker 2: thing to do, right.
- 32:01Speaker 1: And then she turns into goo and he immediately feels
- 32:04Speaker 1: bad and like, oh no, and I'm just like, good,
- 32:06Speaker 1: that's right.
- 32:06Speaker 3: You feel like shit, you feel bad for five minutes.
- 32:09Speaker 2: I don't think he ever would have sold it, I'll
- 32:11Speaker 2: be honest, like he was. Just is that like weighing
- 32:14Speaker 2: your options of like I could also he wants pants.
- 32:17Speaker 2: He wants to be able to buy some pants.
- 32:19Speaker 1: No, he needs to shirt cock it through the through
- 32:22Speaker 1: the dungeon. I think that's perfectly. He has boxers, it's
- 32:26Speaker 1: fine basically shorts exactly, but I liked that the Donut's
- 32:31Speaker 1: lack of boundaries included taking the agency for because I mean, also,
- 32:34Speaker 1: she's a crawler, right, She's not like she is a pet,
- 32:38Speaker 1: but she's she's a crawler. You know, she's been assigned
- 32:40Speaker 1: to a crawler number. She got the pet box. But like,
- 32:44Speaker 1: you know, she she's a smart kittie. She she knows
- 32:47Speaker 1: that that's for her and that she needs it in
- 32:48Speaker 1: order to survive. She's gonna win this thing. The cat
- 32:51Speaker 1: is gonna win Earth back and then push it off
- 32:54Speaker 1: the table just for shitting higgles. Also, but like, the
- 32:57Speaker 1: cat is gonna win the game. That's my prediction now
- 33:00Speaker 1: for book ten, as they can't.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Win, well, I'll raffle that for everybody, because we do
- 33:05Speaker 2: not know. Troll skin shirt is plus seven to regeneration,
- 33:09Speaker 2: which is huge, right, like if he gets wounded.
- 33:12Speaker 3: Like oh yeah, insta heel.
- 33:13Speaker 2: Yeah. And then the cloak is plus four to constitution,
- 33:16Speaker 2: which and he's resistant to poison so poison doesn't really
- 33:19Speaker 2: hurt him.
- 33:20Speaker 3: Yeah, and also cold damage, like so.
- 33:22Speaker 2: There's a lot of benefits between those two items, and
- 33:25Speaker 2: he I think he just continues to wear these items
- 33:28Speaker 2: basically forever.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Well, that's what you do in a video game when
- 33:30Speaker 1: you get a cool edentary item at the beginning. That's
- 33:32Speaker 1: like your character's personality is having those few items and
- 33:36Speaker 1: then whatever else you get later on.
- 33:37Speaker 3: That's how it works.
- 33:38Speaker 2: He has a powerful strike again, so that multiplies his
- 33:41Speaker 2: damage when he's not wielding a weapon. So yeah, just
- 33:44Speaker 2: all of these advantages to basically being a you know,
- 33:47Speaker 2: punch hard things just because like he didn't have a
- 33:50Speaker 2: weapon when he came in and and sort of like
- 33:52Speaker 2: you develop whatever weapon you have right until you see
- 33:56Speaker 2: that with there's other characters who have sometimes someone them
- 33:59Speaker 2: bring weapon and they get good at that kind of weapon.
- 34:02Speaker 1: The whole thing about getting to level up and choose
- 34:04Speaker 1: your class and change your race and like all of
- 34:07Speaker 1: that were like you have your starting conditions, but then
- 34:10Speaker 1: you can tweak it. Like I love that mechanic in
- 34:12Speaker 1: video games, and I think it's aside from all the
- 34:14Speaker 1: death in Mayhem, I think it's a really cool mechanic
- 34:16Speaker 1: to apply in this this game book story thing. It's
- 34:20Speaker 1: really cool to be like, yeah, no, you can just
- 34:22Speaker 1: specialize in magic. You can choose to become good at
- 34:26Speaker 1: a thing that you're not good at simply by truing
- 34:28Speaker 1: experience in the game and leveling up, Like, I think
- 34:31Speaker 1: that's a pretty neat thing to play with in this universe.
- 34:35Speaker 2: And then yeah, I think the last thing there is
- 34:37Speaker 2: uh Donut popping up, which is immediately criticizing his cloak.
- 34:43Speaker 2: And I can't find.
- 34:44Speaker 1: A London designed why Mistress Beach was highed. Oh my god,
- 34:53Speaker 1: Oh my god, I'm so here for Donu just being
- 34:57Speaker 1: a snooty little princess. But like with the scathing commentary,
- 35:02Speaker 1: and so I'm assuming that they're going to have a
- 35:04Speaker 1: very like biting, buddy cop like snark fest as.
- 35:10Speaker 3: We go through this.
- 35:10Speaker 1: This feels like it's going to be a very snarky relationship.
- 35:16Speaker 1: You can't lie to me, I know, I know this
- 35:19Speaker 1: is going to be.
- 35:19Speaker 3: A snark fest.
- 35:21Speaker 2: There's certainly a fair amount of that, right because he's
- 35:23Speaker 2: he's used to like ras in his buddies and she's
- 35:25Speaker 2: a princess cat who has a lot of like you know, opinions, right,
- 35:30Speaker 2: So this is going to be fun and she remembers everything.
- 35:33Speaker 3: This is going to be so much fun. I'm so
- 35:36Speaker 3: glad that she has a voice.
- 35:38Speaker 2: She saw things as a cat.
- 35:41Speaker 1: Oh of course she did, because cats have no respect
- 35:45Speaker 1: for anyone's boundaries or personal space. Oh no, oh, no, oh,
- 35:53Speaker 1: I'm so excited to go read more.
- 35:57Speaker 2: All right, and so uh yeah, I think that brings
- 36:00Speaker 2: us the end of the four chapters that we wanted
- 36:02Speaker 2: to talk about today.
- 36:03Speaker 3: Oh my god, that's great. This is fun. I'm having
- 36:06Speaker 3: a great time.
- 36:07Speaker 2: Good. I'm enjoying watching you read this and teasing you
- 36:11Speaker 2: a little bit with some of the stuff that I know.
- 36:13Speaker 2: But also there's a lot of things I don't know,
- 36:14Speaker 2: because you know, the story's not finished, so I cannot.
- 36:20Speaker 2: I'm enjoying the fact that some things I'll be able
- 36:22Speaker 2: to spoil, some things I won't, and I'll be able
- 36:24Speaker 2: to tell you. Oh I don't know that, but I
- 36:26Speaker 2: will know it. I will know it.
- 36:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Figuring out how to navigate the new books when they
- 36:33Speaker 1: come out will be an interesting.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Maybe I read them first and then we read through
- 36:38Speaker 2: chapter by chapter with you on them or something like.
- 36:40Speaker 3: That, or do we read them together.
- 36:42Speaker 1: We will find out, we'll find out, we all find
- 36:44Speaker 1: out together. First we have to name this podcast.
- 36:46Speaker 2: Yeah, so yeah, we do have to name it. I'd
- 36:49Speaker 2: say send the names, but if you're listening to this,
- 36:51Speaker 2: we probably already picked one. Yeah, and you know more
- 36:53Speaker 2: than we do, so I guess for us, it's mafo,
- 36:56Speaker 2: wait and find out. For you, you already.
- 36:59Speaker 3: Know podcast And.
- 37:04Speaker 1: All right with that, I think we're done.
