- 2:07Speaker 1: at seven pm Eastern instead of our normal nine pm Eastern,
- 2:10Speaker 1: I am joined by one of my favorite guests to
- 2:13Speaker 1: talk about the Bills from a high level perspective. As
- 2:16Speaker 1: this episode is, you know, kind of within the backdrop
- 2:20Speaker 1: of the Bills playing the Patriots this week and the
- 2:25Speaker 1: Patriots seemingly being ahead of the Buffalo Bills this year,
- 2:30Speaker 1: We're not seemingly they are, And what does that mean?
- 2:32Speaker 1: Are we reading into it too much? Looking at it
- 2:34Speaker 1: from you know, a small scale, immediate point of view
- 2:37Speaker 1: towards a bigger landscape view for the AFC East, for
- 2:40Speaker 1: Drake May, for the Pats, for the Bills, the AFC
- 2:43Speaker 1: landscape for the conference as a whole this year, kind
- 2:45Speaker 1: of looking at things from a high level perspective, but
- 2:48Speaker 1: as always with a schematic and structural x's and o's
- 2:52Speaker 1: type of perspective as you have come to expect here
- 2:55Speaker 1: on this show. And you know, we're rocking at seven
- 2:57Speaker 1: tonight because I had to accommodate my guests because he's selfish.
- 3:03Speaker 1: His girlfriend's been like working a ton and he's like, oh,
- 3:05Speaker 1: I'm supposed to take her out, and just typical selfish,
- 3:08Speaker 1: really me, me me type of stuff from this guy.
- 3:11Speaker 1: But you know, my hands were tired and I wanted
- 3:13Speaker 1: him on the show, so we moved the show up
- 3:17Speaker 1: to accommodate our guests, who all jokes aside. It is
- 3:20Speaker 1: sincerely one of my favorite people. I talk about it
- 3:23Speaker 1: every time I talk to you, Taylor, I talk about you.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I love having people on the beat for teams that
- 3:31Speaker 1: actually know football. No x's knows how the game works
- 3:34Speaker 1: on an individual roles responsibility standpoint, a high level sem standpoint,
- 3:38Speaker 1: and I sincerely don't think there's really anyone better than
- 3:41Speaker 1: you in that are on the beat. However, the Patriots
- 3:44Speaker 1: tend to sleep fund of in depth detailing notes. Mike
- 3:47Speaker 1: Vrabel knows of you because of your somatic and structural
- 3:50Speaker 1: comments and what you give him and bring to him
- 3:53Speaker 1: you were also, so thank you very much for taking
- 3:56Speaker 1: the time to join me. Welcome as always.
- 3:58Speaker 2: How you doing too more? Brother?
- 4:00Speaker 4: Thank you best intros in the game as always, and
- 4:03Speaker 4: appreciate you accommodating this selfish, selfish boy, so selfish as always.
- 4:08Speaker 4: I'm very happy to be here and always love talking
- 4:11Speaker 4: ball with you and getting some more insights because I
- 4:13Speaker 4: learned just as much coming on these shows as or
- 4:15Speaker 4: probably more than what I'm able to provide you.
- 4:17Speaker 2: So I'm excited about.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and that goes right back at you. You're
- 4:21Speaker 1: one of my favorite people to talk ball with. We've
- 4:23Speaker 1: texted about football, We've spoken on the phone about football.
- 4:26Speaker 1: We spoke on the phone at length the week of
- 4:30Speaker 1: Bill's Patriots earlier this year. We were talking about Josh McDaniels.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Josh McDaniel, Yeah, mc McDaniel, mc McDaniel.
- 4:38Speaker 2: He's got that he's going with the s.
- 4:39Speaker 1: It always throws me and I'm all of my notes
- 4:42Speaker 1: I've been talking about, like the Patriots offense and so
- 4:44Speaker 1: I'm like McDaniel apostrophe s offense and so like that's
- 4:48Speaker 1: in my head too, along with Mike McDaniel from Miami.
- 4:51Speaker 1: It's always thrown from Yeah, we several moons ago, we're
- 4:55Speaker 1: talking about, you know, the changes for this Pats offense
- 4:58Speaker 1: and what you know he's meant to Drake May's development
- 5:01Speaker 1: and where the Bills were struggling and lo and behold.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Going to that game, Patriots pull out the victory. They
- 5:07Speaker 1: have continued to ride hot since then, and they sit
- 5:10Speaker 1: atop the AFC East, sit tied with the Broncos, you
- 5:13Speaker 1: know from a lost commum perspective, and tops of the
- 5:16Speaker 1: AFC as we sit here going into what is a
- 5:20Speaker 1: big game I think for both teams, and you know,
- 5:22Speaker 1: the Bills making that push for the playoffs, maybe making
- 5:25Speaker 1: a push for the vision, but the Patriots trying to
- 5:28Speaker 1: continue to solidify themselves in this year. Before we get
- 5:33Speaker 1: into kind of the media the episode, where are the
- 5:34Speaker 1: Patriots at right now? For you? Are you know, as
- 5:37Speaker 1: a team, are you buying completely into the record? Is
- 5:40Speaker 1: there some more stuff under the surface. Is there something
- 5:43Speaker 1: under the surface positively that we might not be seeing
- 5:45Speaker 1: from the outside. Where is this Pats team at in
- 5:48Speaker 1: your estimation?
- 5:49Speaker 4: I do think it's fair to acknowledge their strength of schedule,
- 5:52Speaker 4: especially when it comes to the defensive side of the ball.
- 5:54Speaker 4: I think the offense, like when they had a stretch
- 5:56Speaker 4: where they face the Browns, the Falcons, like they've played
- 5:59Speaker 4: some good deep is obviously the Bills, even if they're
- 6:01Speaker 4: not necessarily the most talented, still structurally sound, well coached defense,
- 6:06Speaker 4: and we've seen them do pretty well. So I still
- 6:09Speaker 4: think this is a huge test for the Patriots. So
- 6:12Speaker 4: I think it'll answer some questions. But what's impressed me most.
- 6:16Speaker 4: I think about this team and while I think they
- 6:17Speaker 4: are legit, even though they haven't faced a ton of
- 6:19Speaker 4: high powered offenses outside of the Bills and to a degree,
- 6:23Speaker 4: the Buccaneers, that was kind of right before. I feel
- 6:25Speaker 4: like Baker hit this landslide that he's on right now.
- 6:28Speaker 4: But the resilience that I've seen from this team is
- 6:31Speaker 4: what makes it feel a lot different from any team
- 6:33Speaker 4: that I've seen them have since they were winning Super
- 6:35Speaker 4: Bowls and twenty twenty one Mac Jones's rookie season where
- 6:39Speaker 4: they have this win streak and they were riding high
- 6:42Speaker 4: before they hit their bye week before everything kind of
- 6:44Speaker 4: fell off a cliff. But I remember it was the
- 6:47Speaker 4: Bills game in Buffalo where Mac Jones threw like he
- 6:50Speaker 4: had I think more rushing yards than he even had
- 6:53Speaker 4: like pass It was something crazy like that, the balls exactly,
- 6:57Speaker 4: and it was just we're going to run a college
- 6:59Speaker 4: offense or basically Georgia Tech. And that was my biggest
- 7:03Speaker 4: one went for pause where I said, Okay, this may
- 7:05Speaker 4: be a fugeese offense, and I think the defense was good,
- 7:08Speaker 4: but at that point they just had so many injuries
- 7:10Speaker 4: it kind of bottomed out for them. But also in
- 7:13Speaker 4: the years since then, I feel like there's a resilience
- 7:15Speaker 4: that they've lacked, where they constantly are in games and
- 7:19Speaker 4: find ways to lose and just throw up on themselves
- 7:21Speaker 4: where they're in advantageous situations and then everything goes downhill.
- 7:26Speaker 2: This team has had.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Several excuses to regress to fall off for a couple
- 7:31Speaker 4: of games. I know the Saints game after the Bills
- 7:34Speaker 4: game was the first one people really focused on, where, Okay,
- 7:37Speaker 4: now you're coming out with this huge emotional win, and
- 7:39Speaker 4: now you're going to play the Saints, who aren't the
- 7:41Speaker 4: best team, but they are talented, and you know there's
- 7:43Speaker 4: something there, so maybe you know you slip up there. Nope,
- 7:47Speaker 4: they dominate the Saints. To agree, the Saints are still
- 7:49Speaker 4: pretty good. Spencer Ratley moved the ball, but they really
- 7:51Speaker 4: did what they needed to do. And then in their
- 7:53Speaker 4: last game against the Giants, this is a team that
- 7:56Speaker 4: is banged up. They had played twelve straight games that point,
- 7:58Speaker 4: you're saying, hey, you know, if they lose this when
- 8:00Speaker 4: the Giants aren't great, but I at least understand. Nope,
- 8:03Speaker 4: they have maybe their most physical game of the entire
- 8:05Speaker 4: season and really take it to that New York team.
- 8:09Speaker 4: And that's really the biggest thing that stood out is
- 8:11Speaker 4: that I think they are mentally tough. I think that
- 8:13Speaker 4: Mike Vrable has true buy in, which you know, what
- 8:16Speaker 4: exactly does that mean? These guys are in the building,
- 8:20Speaker 4: they are locked in. They enjoy being with each other.
- 8:22Speaker 4: You've got position groups hanging out with each other, which
- 8:24Speaker 4: isn't a very common thing. You might think though it's
- 8:27Speaker 4: a football team, everybody hangs out. Not really, And as
- 8:30Speaker 4: someone who's been on the beat for you know, only
- 8:31Speaker 4: three years now at this.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Point, really more like two and a half ish, But
- 8:35Speaker 2: in the past couple of years you didn't really see that.
- 8:36Speaker 4: And now you see specialists with defensive players like you know,
- 8:40Speaker 4: offensive linemen hanging out with cornerbacks, like it's you know,
- 8:43Speaker 4: it's dogs and chickens living together and whatever the setting is.
- 8:46Speaker 4: But you can tell they really do want to play
- 8:49Speaker 4: for each other, and I think that comes out in
- 8:50Speaker 4: some of the toughest moments when their backs are against
- 8:53Speaker 4: the walls. So kind of a little bit of a
- 8:54Speaker 4: rant there, But considering what I've seen since I got
- 8:57Speaker 4: to the beat, where it's a lot of toxicity and
- 9:00Speaker 4: you know, just constantly falling short of whatever expectations they
- 9:03Speaker 4: had said previously, it feels like this regime is finally
- 9:06Speaker 4: building those back up and turning them into a legitimate contender.
- 9:09Speaker 4: Even in year one when they still have some holes
- 9:11Speaker 4: they could probably be feeling.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Yeah, and you know, with what you know, McDaniel was
- 9:16Speaker 1: able to do offensively from a schmatic standpoint, and then
- 9:19Speaker 1: Rabel is kind of like your ship runner from a
- 9:21Speaker 1: culture standpoint, let alone like a team preparation standpoint. It
- 9:25Speaker 1: just seemed like such a good mix for them coming
- 9:27Speaker 1: in and you know, even to kind of that tune
- 9:29Speaker 1: of where you're talking about the dogs and chickens aspect,
- 9:31Speaker 1: I oh, maybe a couple of weeks ago, I think
- 9:33Speaker 1: I'm memory correctly. I think Carlton Davis was talking about
- 9:36Speaker 1: like during camp a preseason or something like, or maybe
- 9:39Speaker 1: even earlier, like everybody's at lunch and like Rabel coming in.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Babel like came into the cafeteria and everybody kind of
- 9:45Speaker 1: like got tight or was like quiet a little bit,
- 9:47Speaker 1: and he's just encouraged more of like comfortability and that
- 9:51Speaker 1: culture piece. And now you've got guys who are just
- 9:53Speaker 1: feeling like comfortable, like they don't feel there's not there's
- 9:57Speaker 1: no tightness, there's no like feeling like they have to
- 10:00Speaker 1: be completely buttoned up, like everybody can be themselves. Like
- 10:02Speaker 1: Davis was kind of getting it and crediting Vrabel to
- 10:04Speaker 1: that degree. And if you're a Bills fan, you should
- 10:07Speaker 1: hate that because that's absolutely terrible news to hear. But yeah,
- 10:10Speaker 1: kudos of the Pats for all those who cover them. Also,
- 10:13Speaker 1: I did pull up that game, that stupid super cold
- 10:16Speaker 1: game that the Patriots won fourteen to ten and twenty
- 10:18Speaker 1: twenty one. Mac Jones was two of three for nineteen yards.
- 10:24Speaker 1: He had five carries, and Damien Harris had ten carries,
- 10:27Speaker 1: where Mandre Stevenson had twenty four. They came in and
- 10:30Speaker 1: ran the ball forty six times. And passed it twice
- 10:34Speaker 1: three attempts to completions out of.
- 10:36Speaker 4: You didn't want Mac throwing into the wind, which is
- 10:39Speaker 4: just for a Patriots quarterback.
- 10:40Speaker 2: I remember thinking this is doomed. This it was really bad.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Yeah, everybody kind of thought that too. And then Damien
- 10:47Speaker 1: Harris had like a sixty four yard tuddy and the
- 10:50Speaker 1: Bills offense couldn't put things together. A couple of really
- 10:53Speaker 1: ugly Mac Jones led losses for the Bills. There's that
- 10:57Speaker 1: one and then the one in New England two years ago.
- 11:00Speaker 2: I think that was my first season on the beat.
- 11:02Speaker 1: That's what I thought. Yeah, that loss sucked. The Bills
- 11:04Speaker 1: came back and took the lead at the end and
- 11:06Speaker 1: then Mac drove him right down. They had the you
- 11:09Speaker 1: know a bit of a referee assist on that one,
- 11:11Speaker 1: but uh on that drive. But yeah, oh those stupid,
- 11:14Speaker 1: stupid mac Jones losses. So yeah, if you if you
- 11:18Speaker 1: like the Patriots, you're feeling good right now. For better
- 11:20Speaker 1: For ust, I will say I was surprised a bit.
- 11:23Speaker 1: I know the whole strength of schedule thing, but you know,
- 11:25Speaker 1: DVOA something that kind of takes strength of opponent into consideration.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Ones along with a multitude of other contextual factors, like
- 11:33Speaker 1: they really got penalized in that regard, Like their defense
- 11:35Speaker 1: is kind of bottom like mid to like high twenties
- 11:38Speaker 1: in a lot of regards. But if you look at
- 11:40Speaker 1: them from like EPA per play, EPA per rush and
- 11:42Speaker 1: all these other things, they're like top ten, eleven, twelve,
- 11:45Speaker 1: middle of the packet worse. But dv away that strength
- 11:47Speaker 1: of schedule or strength of opponent, I should say, really
- 11:49Speaker 1: kind of knocking him down. And so it are really
- 11:52Speaker 1: interesting to see again they get this second match up
- 11:54Speaker 1: with the Bills, and that'll lead us kind of into
- 11:56Speaker 1: our first topic. You know, here as we stand right now,
- 11:59Speaker 1: the Patriots being too ahead of the Bills in the
- 12:02Speaker 1: lost column, seemingly having somewhat of a stranglehold on the
- 12:06Speaker 1: AFC East this year. If they do beat the Bills
- 12:09Speaker 1: in this week, and obviously that would mean the Bills lose,
- 12:12Speaker 1: the division is essentially done and dusted and it goes
- 12:15Speaker 1: to the Patriots in a year where you know, you
- 12:17Speaker 1: mentioned it a little bit earlier, and I think this
- 12:19Speaker 1: ties into the whole conversation, like being a bit had
- 12:22Speaker 1: a schedule like Drake May in year two and McDaniel's
- 12:25Speaker 1: coming back and Vrabel in his first year, but this
- 12:28Speaker 1: was a roster that, you know, I think people largely
- 12:32Speaker 1: were kind of overlooking even the kind of the impact
- 12:35Speaker 1: Vrabel could have. I know, preseason, it was really like, oh, man,
- 12:39Speaker 1: like how much how much of the Dolphin's going to
- 12:42Speaker 1: finish second versus the rest of the the AFC East.
- 12:46Speaker 1: And I remember I remember geting yelled at by people
- 12:49Speaker 1: because I was like, I think the Patriots are actually
- 12:50Speaker 1: going to finish second. And I'm not saying this pad
- 12:52Speaker 1: myself on the back, but I was like, I think
- 12:53Speaker 1: the Patriots could finish second and push for a playoff spot.
- 12:57Speaker 1: I saw the schedule, I just have faith and Vrabel McDaniel,
- 13:00Speaker 1: you know, some of the pieces they had, and I
- 13:01Speaker 1: thought it could fit and work a little bit, especially
- 13:03Speaker 1: depending on what you got from Drake May. But lo
- 13:05Speaker 1: and behold, we're having this you know, opening segment of
- 13:08Speaker 1: the you know, changing of the guard in the AFC
- 13:09Speaker 1: East because this has been the Bill's division for the
- 13:12Speaker 1: past five years now, the Patriots have kind of announced themselves.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Is this you know season where we're at, what we're
- 13:19Speaker 1: seeing right now, is this you know, a signaling of
- 13:24Speaker 1: a changing of the guard in the AFC East. Is
- 13:26Speaker 1: this like, yes, the pats have arrived, They're going to
- 13:29Speaker 1: stare there on even footing and even terms of the bills,
- 13:32Speaker 1: and we're gonna start to see that change or is
- 13:35Speaker 1: it more circumstantial? And if it is more circumstantial and
- 13:38Speaker 1: not a true changing of the guard, what do you
- 13:40Speaker 1: need to see from the Patriots or for the Patriots
- 13:43Speaker 1: for it to be, you know, a true changing of
- 13:45Speaker 1: the guard in this division.
- 13:47Speaker 2: So it's still only.
- 13:48Speaker 4: Been one season, and I want to be very clear
- 13:51Speaker 4: that things can change so quickly in the NFL, as
- 13:53Speaker 4: we literally saw from the Patriots, but in a positive way.
- 13:56Speaker 4: You know, things change very very quickly. That said, I
- 14:00Speaker 4: think they have the pieces in place to be a
- 14:02Speaker 4: problem for a while in this division. And like you,
- 14:05Speaker 4: I was very optimistic about what they could be this season.
- 14:08Speaker 4: I had them with thirteen I praised it as winnable games.
- 14:11Speaker 4: When I did my initial schedule prediction. I looked through
- 14:13Speaker 4: and I had them with thirteen wins initially. Now I
- 14:16Speaker 4: kind of put a caveat at the end saying eleven's
- 14:19Speaker 4: probably more realistic. But I also think that if they
- 14:22Speaker 4: won thirteen it's not the craziest thing in the world,
- 14:24Speaker 4: because a lot of people were pointing out, oh, you know,
- 14:26Speaker 4: they're still gonna lose a couple of games that they
- 14:28Speaker 4: should probably win, and it's like, okay, but they could
- 14:30Speaker 4: also win some games that you probably think they'd lose,
- 14:33Speaker 4: where that turned into beating the Bills on the road,
- 14:36Speaker 4: beating the Buccaneers on the road, those are two games
- 14:38Speaker 4: I really didn't have them winning.
- 14:40Speaker 2: And then they lose to the Raiders and the opener,
- 14:41Speaker 2: which was a game I was just say.
- 14:43Speaker 1: The two losses are the opener against the Raiders and
- 14:46Speaker 1: the game where they threw up all over themselves offensively
- 14:49Speaker 1: against the Steelers like they and they even the Raiders game,
- 14:52Speaker 1: they still can't. They realistically could be undefeated at this
- 14:55Speaker 1: point very easily with just one loss, considering just the
- 14:58Speaker 1: Steelers game, like it's it's wild, like how their two
- 15:02Speaker 1: losses are like, those are games they should have won exactly.
- 15:05Speaker 4: And the reason I felt that they can actually come
- 15:07Speaker 4: out on top in so many of those games was
- 15:09Speaker 4: because of the infrastructure they now have in place, where
- 15:12Speaker 4: you have Mike Rabel, who had been a head coach
- 15:14Speaker 4: of the year. Everyone points out how badly things went
- 15:17Speaker 4: towards the end, But I feel like it's really whistling
- 15:19Speaker 4: past the graveyard whenever someone doesn't acknowledge that they traded
- 15:23Speaker 4: aj Brown in a move that pissed Brabil off so
- 15:25Speaker 4: much on a live feed he decided to get up
- 15:28Speaker 4: and leave the room when they were leave the war room.
- 15:31Speaker 2: So that was a really big thing for me.
- 15:33Speaker 4: I understand things weren't perfect, but it also felt like
- 15:36Speaker 4: well Rabel had his warts. There was a lot towards
- 15:38Speaker 4: the end of his ten year in Tennessee that works
- 15:40Speaker 4: against him, despite the fact that he had done so
- 15:43Speaker 4: much despite not having a ton of pieces. And then
- 15:45Speaker 4: you pair the great, potentially great head coach and someone
- 15:48Speaker 4: who at least had a track record in this league
- 15:50Speaker 4: with Drake May who already had exceeded expectations as a rookie.
- 15:54Speaker 4: And then you add Josh McDaniels to that mix, where
- 15:57Speaker 4: another guy who gets criticism because of what he is
- 16:00Speaker 4: done outside of the Patriots building, but at the same
- 16:02Speaker 4: time has also had a track record of success. When
- 16:05Speaker 4: Brady did go down, you have the Cam Newton season,
- 16:07Speaker 4: you had the year that Brady got suspended, where he
- 16:09Speaker 4: takes Ja Kobe Brissett and Jimmy Garoppolo in his winning
- 16:12Speaker 4: games he probably shouldn't have on paper, at least A
- 16:15Speaker 4: big reason they did so that was the roadex of
- 16:18Speaker 4: information he has where you think of Josh as the
- 16:21Speaker 4: play caller and you know, the quarterback developer, which he is,
- 16:24Speaker 4: but also think of how many opponents and coordinators and
- 16:29Speaker 4: i'm sorry, defenses he's faced and has just whole game
- 16:31Speaker 4: plans and like the blueprint for how to solve all
- 16:34Speaker 4: these problems, and then being able to translate that to
- 16:37Speaker 4: Drake May, who's a very cerebral guy. So I do
- 16:40Speaker 4: think that while you know, I still think the Bills
- 16:43Speaker 4: are going to be in it, you have Josh Allen,
- 16:45Speaker 4: I think there's gonna be a lot of butting heads
- 16:47Speaker 4: in this division, and hell, even the Dolphins. I mean,
- 16:49Speaker 4: what they've been doing recently is pretty impressive to turnaround
- 16:51Speaker 4: that we've seen from them. But having that big three
- 16:54Speaker 4: of Rabel, May and McDaniels plus the front office did
- 16:58Speaker 4: a pretty damn good job and is a huge reason
- 17:00Speaker 4: they'd taken the sleep they knocked out of the parking
- 17:02Speaker 4: free agency. Pretty Much everyone they spent money on has
- 17:05Speaker 4: been a key contributor, and you've got yourself five or
- 17:07Speaker 4: six starters out of just this draft class in the
- 17:10Speaker 4: first year that this whole regime was together.
- 17:12Speaker 2: So you put that together.
- 17:13Speaker 4: If they're able to have this kind of consistency and
- 17:15Speaker 4: just improve and not take dramatic steps back, I don't
- 17:19Speaker 4: see how you don't continue to look at this as
- 17:20Speaker 4: one of the best teams in the AFC again, as
- 17:23Speaker 4: long as there are no significant setbacks looking.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Forward, I think that's super fair. You know, this this
- 17:29Speaker 1: year for the Patriots has, you know, even if you
- 17:33Speaker 1: are not taking them seriously for their what their win
- 17:38Speaker 1: loss record is, or where they're seeding is in the playoffs,
- 17:40Speaker 1: even if they get bounced in the first round or
- 17:43Speaker 1: second round, if they end up getting the one seed,
- 17:44Speaker 1: whatever it is, this has still just been such a
- 17:48Speaker 1: successful year for them with where they were coming from,
- 17:53Speaker 1: which was kind of like, I don't want to say
- 17:56Speaker 1: laughing stock, but I feel like people wanted to push
- 17:58Speaker 1: it there because of how much most people hate the
- 18:00Speaker 1: Patriots at this point, but how the Belichick run ended
- 18:04Speaker 1: and then the Mayo regime and what that looked like
- 18:08Speaker 1: or didn't look like, you know, kind of coming out
- 18:10Speaker 1: of there the draft classes and the lack of like
- 18:12Speaker 1: building through the roster, like the leadership everything, And again
- 18:16Speaker 1: I remember talking about during the offseason. I was like, oh,
- 18:18Speaker 1: like Rabel, you know, you hit on the head. I
- 18:20Speaker 1: was like, Rabel is a good coach, Like he got
- 18:21Speaker 1: a raw deal at Tennessee. They shipped out a whole
- 18:25Speaker 1: bunch of important pieces. He said, I love that you
- 18:27Speaker 1: mentioned the draft night. Like he's sitting there on draft
- 18:29Speaker 1: night and they're like, oh, the Tennessee Titans of trader
- 18:32Speaker 1: AJ Brown And he was like I'm sorry, like what
- 18:35Speaker 1: and then yeah, gets up. I remember him walking you.
- 18:37Speaker 1: He literally see him get up in the war room
- 18:38Speaker 1: and he's like like you could see him have to
- 18:40Speaker 1: compose himself because he's pissed. And then they were like, yeah,
- 18:43Speaker 1: he's super pissed. It's crazy. And then they're like it's
- 18:47Speaker 1: the whole like oh, yeah, well, like we drafted Trailing Burks,
- 18:50Speaker 1: like AJ Brown is AJ Brown, but like Trailing Brooks
- 18:52Speaker 1: could be anything. He could even be AJ Brown and
- 18:54Speaker 1: it's like why don't you keep AJ Brown?
- 18:56Speaker 2: Or or he could be Trailing Burks yeah.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Or he could be Trailing Burks and not turned into anything,
- 19:00Speaker 1: which is no dispect is kind of what's happened, and
- 19:03Speaker 1: he gets a raw deal, gets shipped out, takes his time,
- 19:06Speaker 1: sits in, you know, embides his time and waits a
- 19:08Speaker 1: little bit, and then he comes in and brings back McDaniels,
- 19:11Speaker 1: who has such a great feel for the organization for
- 19:13Speaker 1: this offense. And then you pair that with the quarterback. Yeah,
- 19:17Speaker 1: I think even if I'm not ready to say it's
- 19:20Speaker 1: a changing of the guard, you know completely like uh oh,
- 19:23Speaker 1: the Pats are back, the bills are down, and it's over.
- 19:27Speaker 1: This AFC East is going to be a battle, you know,
- 19:29Speaker 1: or even kind of leaning and or skewing it more
- 19:31Speaker 1: towards the Pats. But however you look at it, this
- 19:34Speaker 1: is a tremendous year one in the vrable like building
- 19:39Speaker 1: going forward, let alone with what you've seen from Drake May,
- 19:41Speaker 1: which obviously you know kind of we're going to talk
- 19:43Speaker 1: through more as we go forward here. And this is
- 19:46Speaker 1: even saying too, like they still got some money they
- 19:49Speaker 1: can spend, they can get some free agents this offseason,
- 19:51Speaker 1: you can build more with like they have clear spots
- 19:53Speaker 1: where they can get better, where it's not like, oh
- 19:55Speaker 1: my god, we've got these seven things, which one do
- 19:57Speaker 1: we spend a first round pick on. It's like, no,
- 20:00Speaker 1: We've only got like a handful, So we can let
- 20:02Speaker 1: the board come to us, let alone with what we
- 20:03Speaker 1: can buttress this team within free agency, and you know
- 20:07Speaker 1: you got you've got guys at the helm who you
- 20:09Speaker 1: feel confident, you know, buying those groceries and then being
- 20:12Speaker 1: able to take them and develop them or put them
- 20:14Speaker 1: in the best spots or success. So yeah, I'm not
- 20:17Speaker 1: ready to say full on changing the guards, similar to you,
- 20:20Speaker 1: but I think you can't see this and not be
- 20:22Speaker 1: happy if you're a Patriots fan and not be like
- 20:24Speaker 1: uh oh if you are not a Patriots fan or
- 20:27Speaker 1: anyone else kind of in the AFC's pivoting. So the
- 20:31Speaker 1: next question kind of segment we have within here, So
- 20:33Speaker 1: we're talking about this Patriots team, talking about potential changing
- 20:37Speaker 1: of the guard, not only this year but going forward,
- 20:40Speaker 1: and even to kind of you speaking in that segment,
- 20:44Speaker 1: one of the first things you mentioned was, you know,
- 20:46Speaker 1: if you can't count the bills out, they still have
- 20:48Speaker 1: Josh Allen, there's still I feel like so much of
- 20:51Speaker 1: the conversation around the bills, and rightfully so and or
- 20:53Speaker 1: understandably so is like, oh, well, the Bills have Josh
- 20:55Speaker 1: Allen and Josh Allen and Josh Allen aside from Josh Allen.
- 20:59Speaker 1: We've talked about the before, you know, over the years
- 21:01Speaker 1: as we've had we talked about it on shows, You've
- 21:03Speaker 1: talked about it offline from your perspective and enemy's eyes
- 21:06Speaker 1: and in division enemy that sees the Bills twice a year.
- 21:11Speaker 1: How much are the Bills feared from an outsider perspective
- 21:15Speaker 1: aside from Josh Allen when you come into these games
- 21:18Speaker 1: that you and you know, again one of the things
- 21:20Speaker 1: I love about you, you're breaking down pats tape, but
- 21:22Speaker 1: you're breaking down league wide stuff, especially from an opponent
- 21:25Speaker 1: perspective as you come into games. When you were watching
- 21:27Speaker 1: the Bills, how much of it is oh man, Josh
- 21:31Speaker 1: Allen or is it also this guy or also this
- 21:35Speaker 1: position group?
- 21:36Speaker 2: For you?
- 21:36Speaker 1: Is it really just Josh Allen as this frontman and
- 21:39Speaker 1: whatever happens behind him, or do you think there is
- 21:42Speaker 1: some fear for other players or other position groups or
- 21:46Speaker 1: other aspects of this team aside from Josh Allen.
- 21:49Speaker 4: The biggest one is the offensive line, and that's kind
- 21:52Speaker 4: of been driving me crazy as I'm preparing for this
- 21:54Speaker 4: game because when you looked at last time these teams met,
- 21:57Speaker 4: Patriots had a really tough time getting pressure. Like all
- 22:00Speaker 4: Josh Allen's explosive passes were at least three and a
- 22:03Speaker 4: half seconds. I'm pretty sure I think three were four
- 22:06Speaker 4: seconds or more. And I don't really know how you
- 22:08Speaker 4: fix that because I'm poured over the table. I'm saying
- 22:10Speaker 4: this if you can tell me, please, because I don't
- 22:13Speaker 4: really know how you generate any consistent pressure against these guys. Listen,
- 22:16Speaker 4: you have Daniel Hunter and will Lanerson on the edges.
- 22:19Speaker 4: Other than that, I don't really know what you're supposed
- 22:20Speaker 4: to do. So the fact that one as good as
- 22:23Speaker 4: Josh Allen is it's very hard to even disrupt him naturally.
- 22:27Speaker 4: And then by extension also these are some big m
- 22:29Speaker 4: efforts who can move a whole lot of people. And
- 22:31Speaker 4: then by extension, it makes James cook even scarier. Now, granted,
- 22:36Speaker 4: if you get you know, Cooking's face on mesh or
- 22:38Speaker 4: catch him in the flat and he's able to make
- 22:40Speaker 4: somebody miss, that's terrifying, because James Cooking's face is very scary.
- 22:44Speaker 2: But it's the fact that the offensive.
- 22:45Speaker 4: Line is so good in both phases and forces you
- 22:49Speaker 4: to respect the one on those early downs when they've
- 22:51Speaker 4: got Josh Allen in the backfield. That every time these
- 22:54Speaker 4: teams play really kind of grinds my gears is that
- 22:58Speaker 4: you can't really cheat. There's not a whole you can
- 23:00Speaker 4: do to say, you know what, I don't care.
- 23:02Speaker 2: We're gonna load the box and we're just gonna run
- 23:04Speaker 2: because then Josh can have success.
- 23:06Speaker 4: And if you decide you want to live in too high,
- 23:07Speaker 4: they're gonna run the ball down your throat. That's a
- 23:10Speaker 4: decision you can make. But with an explosive back like
- 23:12Speaker 4: James Cook, that's a pretty big risk. Now Patriots did
- 23:15Speaker 4: a very good job of that the last time these
- 23:17Speaker 4: two faced. James Cook didn't have any explosive carries. But
- 23:21Speaker 4: I also think the Patriots run defense has taken a
- 23:23Speaker 4: bit of a step back, partially because of personnel, maybe
- 23:26Speaker 4: also just because they played so many games their bodies
- 23:29Speaker 4: wore down. I'm not really sure, but the run game
- 23:32Speaker 4: this time around is definitely something I'm concerned about, So
- 23:34Speaker 4: the offensive line, and then by extension as well, James
- 23:37Speaker 4: Cook and on the other side of the ball.
- 23:39Speaker 2: It's really just how opportunistic the Bills are on defense.
- 23:42Speaker 4: I never really go into games afraid of that unit,
- 23:46Speaker 4: especially in recent years. I think when you know, Micah
- 23:49Speaker 4: Hyde and Jordan Porri are really in their heyday, and
- 23:51Speaker 4: obviously you had more pieces and Matt Milano's healthy.
- 23:54Speaker 2: You know, the prime of this Bill's defense.
- 23:56Speaker 4: In the Sean McDermott era, there was a level of
- 23:59Speaker 4: fear because they could throw so many disguises at you.
- 24:01Speaker 4: They were so smart. You don't have that now, but
- 24:04Speaker 4: you still have guys like obviously led by the defensive front.
- 24:07Speaker 4: Those guys are going to create turnovers and turnover opportunities,
- 24:11Speaker 4: and then the guys on the back end, more often
- 24:12Speaker 4: than not, are going to be able to take advantage
- 24:14Speaker 4: versus you know, be in a unit that can almost
- 24:16Speaker 4: get there but then doesn't capitalize and drops picks. Christian
- 24:20Speaker 4: Benford amazing play last week to recognize that they were
- 24:24Speaker 4: trying to throw it him hot on a little screen
- 24:26Speaker 4: and just jump that and designed to take it all
- 24:28Speaker 4: the way back for a touchdown. So the offensive line
- 24:31Speaker 4: gives me nightmares every time these teams play. In the defense,
- 24:35Speaker 4: it's more of a healthy respect because you know that
- 24:38Speaker 4: there's a good chance they're going to force at least
- 24:40Speaker 4: one turnover. Last time they played it was ramondre Stevenson. Now,
- 24:43Speaker 4: the Patriots have had much better ball security from their
- 24:46Speaker 4: back since then, which is notable, but even still, I'm
- 24:49Speaker 4: just hoping that the Patriots are smart and do not
- 24:52Speaker 4: shoot themselves in the foot by call flinging up, especially in.
- 24:54Speaker 2: The big moment.
- 24:55Speaker 1: That's I think that's very well said. You know how
- 24:57Speaker 1: this Bill's team is Bill and even now, but even
- 25:01Speaker 1: going forward in the future. And I also I have
- 25:04Speaker 1: a couple follow up points to that, but I don't
- 25:06Speaker 1: want to violate rules of the show. Whenever we get
- 25:08Speaker 1: a super chat, we have to stop what we're doing.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Bring up that super chat. Carl, you were here pretty
- 25:11Speaker 1: much as always. Thank you for being here, especially with
- 25:14Speaker 1: this updated time going a couple hours early. Thank you
- 25:16Speaker 1: very much the super chat. And Taylor, I'm gonna kind
- 25:19Speaker 1: of let you lead this one off, Carl says, since
- 25:21Speaker 1: the Patriots play a lot of nickel defense, do you
- 25:23Speaker 1: see another Bills tight end game attacking them with their
- 25:26Speaker 1: heavies utilizing twelve personnel and thirteen personnel, Taylor, if you
- 25:31Speaker 1: were the Bills, would this kind of be how you
- 25:34Speaker 1: would lead your attack from a personnel standpoint and or
- 25:36Speaker 1: kind of area of vulnerability to attack.
- 25:39Speaker 2: I absolutely would.
- 25:40Speaker 4: I think the Bill should live in heavier personnel groupings
- 25:43Speaker 4: as much as possible. Now, I will say, Marcus Jones,
- 25:46Speaker 4: their nickel corner is a huge reason they play so
- 25:49Speaker 4: much nickel versus I.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Can I say really quick. I loved like it wasn't
- 25:54Speaker 1: just the return stuff. He was one of my favorite
- 25:57Speaker 1: players in that class coming out of Houston, and I
- 26:00Speaker 1: and everybody like anytime I would post a good clip,
- 26:02Speaker 1: I'd be like, here's, you know, Marcus Jones interception. Here's
- 26:04Speaker 1: a Marcus Jones tackle. Everybody and their mother was like,
- 26:06Speaker 1: he's too small, he'll never succeed in the NFL. And
- 26:09Speaker 1: then he did some return stuff and it was still like,
- 26:12Speaker 1: people remember that I liked him, and they're like, don't
- 26:14Speaker 1: get too excited, like he's not going to be I
- 26:16Speaker 1: hate that he plays with the pass. I love that
- 26:19Speaker 1: he's finding success as an actual real defensive back, like tackling,
- 26:23Speaker 1: making plays on the ball. He's sounding coverage like. He
- 26:26Speaker 1: was such an awesome athlete and playmaker and he was
- 26:31Speaker 1: just so fun to watch in that Houston defense, and
- 26:34Speaker 1: he's one of my favorite players on their team. I
- 26:37Speaker 1: think it's so it's so awesome to see what he's
- 26:39Speaker 1: done considering the size limitations that everyone seemed to put
- 26:42Speaker 1: on him and label him with. So I love that
- 26:45Speaker 1: you're just kind of leading with that. I'm sorry. I
- 26:47Speaker 1: didn't want to.
- 26:47Speaker 4: No, it's good, and really he hasn't I mean, he
- 26:49Speaker 4: hasn't had a chance to thrive really because of the
- 26:51Speaker 4: personnel around him. Like his first year, they had a
- 26:53Speaker 4: ton of injuries. So the Patriots are basically forced to
- 26:55Speaker 4: play him outside and then play a lot of his
- 26:57Speaker 4: own by extension because he is smaller, and you see
- 27:00Speaker 4: that at times, especially as much man as the Patriots
- 27:03Speaker 4: played under Belichick and even under Mayo, because he was
- 27:06Speaker 4: forced to play outside of east and out. It just
- 27:08Speaker 4: led us some matchups that weren't great for him. The
- 27:09Speaker 4: guy's five eight, you know, at the end of the
- 27:11Speaker 4: he is small.
- 27:12Speaker 1: He is small. Those size concerns were fair, Like he's small, Like.
- 27:16Speaker 4: There was a match up against Garrett Wilson, who's not
- 27:17Speaker 4: the biggest guy, but he's big enough and he catches everything.
- 27:20Speaker 4: So those are situations you don't really want to see.
- 27:22Speaker 4: But now the Patriots are actually letting him stay in
- 27:25Speaker 4: the slot.
- 27:25Speaker 2: They're playing a lot more zone.
- 27:26Speaker 4: That's allowed his playmaking instincts to really take over, as
- 27:29Speaker 4: Bills fans no intercept that Josh Allen from kind of
- 27:32Speaker 4: a match zone coverage over the middle of the field,
- 27:35Speaker 4: and even had a pick six against Joe Flacco.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Like he's really turned it on.
- 27:38Speaker 4: And he's also great against the run, and that's one
- 27:41Speaker 4: thing Mike Rabel joke that he has to tell Marcus Jones, like,
- 27:43Speaker 4: hey man, you don't have to take on pulling guards
- 27:46Speaker 4: like you can slip under them, you can get around
- 27:48Speaker 4: like you don't need to be doing all that.
- 27:49Speaker 2: But that shows you how he's got a little bit
- 27:52Speaker 2: of a screw loose.
- 27:53Speaker 4: But he's a really physical run defender, Like there was
- 27:56Speaker 4: a play where Bijon Robinson literally ran him over in
- 27:59Speaker 4: the hole, but you still had to be impressed at
- 28:01Speaker 4: the fact that he popped right back up and was
- 28:03Speaker 4: willing to put his head down and actually try to
- 28:06Speaker 4: take on a guy as big as Bijon Robinson. So
- 28:10Speaker 4: it's not like he's necessarily a guy that you can
- 28:11Speaker 4: pick on, but there will be two or three snaps
- 28:14Speaker 4: of run defense where you do see somebody get to
- 28:16Speaker 4: the second level and he might get embarrassed a little bit,
- 28:19Speaker 4: but more often than not he is solid.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Still, I would threaten that I would.
- 28:23Speaker 4: Try to see if you can get the Patriots to
- 28:25Speaker 4: go to their base defense by just running the ball
- 28:28Speaker 4: incessantly and when they dare you to run, saying.
- 28:30Speaker 2: Okay, we'll do it.
- 28:32Speaker 4: And I don't know if they'll be able to have
- 28:34Speaker 4: quite as much success as they've had recently. Again, the
- 28:36Speaker 4: Patriots played a lot of nickel last time, and we're
- 28:38Speaker 4: able to do a pretty good job against their defense.
- 28:41Speaker 4: But even still, i'd like to do that, and once
- 28:43Speaker 4: they get into base defense, or if you can't get
- 28:45Speaker 4: them the base defense, that's where you start potentially being
- 28:47Speaker 4: able to attack their linebackers and honestly even the safeties
- 28:50Speaker 4: because Craig Woodson and Jalen Hawkins had some trouble covering
- 28:53Speaker 4: these guys last time around.
- 28:55Speaker 2: If you're talking about where.
- 28:56Speaker 4: The Bill should throw in some of the more obvious
- 28:57Speaker 4: passing situations, that's where I would target.
- 29:00Speaker 1: And then from an interior defensive perspective, you know, there's
- 29:03Speaker 1: a couple questions in the chat about it. Milton Williams
- 29:05Speaker 1: is out. Also on the he's on injured reserve. Also
- 29:07Speaker 1: on the offensive side, will Campbell is out, He's on
- 29:09Speaker 1: injured reserve. For me, is Tonka gonna play?
- 29:14Speaker 2: It's looking that way.
- 29:15Speaker 4: He was doing some stuff in practice, but we didn't
- 29:18Speaker 4: get whether he was limited or not.
- 29:19Speaker 2: It looked like he might have been. So still TBD,
- 29:21Speaker 2: but he's trending positively.
- 29:22Speaker 1: I think, okay fair, he's been a nice underrated piece.
- 29:25Speaker 1: And also even on the offensive side stuff when the
- 29:26Speaker 1: put him into like a full back and let him
- 29:28Speaker 1: just annihilate dudes on the run. I don't think they're.
- 29:30Speaker 4: Gonna do a lot more of that because the injury,
- 29:32Speaker 4: which is really sad. Yeah, dude, he had some like
- 29:34Speaker 4: pretty impressive natural instincts.
- 29:36Speaker 1: Yeah, and he was a cool like rotational three or
- 29:38Speaker 1: depending on what they were doing with their fronts when
- 29:39Speaker 1: he's playing alongside or behind Barmore and Williams, who are
- 29:42Speaker 1: or yeah, both monsters. I echo your thoughts here or anythink
- 29:46Speaker 1: Carl's head is in the exact right place. And I
- 29:48Speaker 1: don't even think it's just from the Pats perspective. I've
- 29:50Speaker 1: said it all year, Like the Bills, they need to
- 29:53Speaker 1: win with the run game and the tight ends. That's
- 29:56Speaker 1: you just got to dance with who brought you, and
- 29:57Speaker 1: that's who brought you, like you have to in with twelve, thirteen,
- 30:02Speaker 1: twenty one, twenty two, whatever. Even the idea of somebody
- 30:05Speaker 1: in the in the chat was like, how about twenty
- 30:06Speaker 1: three personnel. Yeah, i would put twenty three person out
- 30:09Speaker 1: there and then I'll put Dalton Kinkaid out wide. It's
- 30:10Speaker 1: like a quasi X and kind of see what you get.
- 30:13Speaker 1: I think that's just kind of the baseline for them
- 30:15Speaker 1: each week, but especially against the Pats, I want to
- 30:19Speaker 1: depending on how healthy he is. But even with what
- 30:21Speaker 1: you can do with Knox a bit, I want Dalton
- 30:23Speaker 1: k k matched upon those linebackers and no safeties or
- 30:26Speaker 1: even if it's you know him, matched up against Marcus Jones,
- 30:28Speaker 1: he's got a significant size advantage, even though Jones can battle.
- 30:31Speaker 1: For those who don't remember, I think Marcus Jones had
- 30:33Speaker 1: a nice like bat down or forced in completion against
- 30:36Speaker 1: Keon Coleman in their first mass. Granted, key On Coleman
- 30:38Speaker 1: isn't necessarily maybe the best person to throw the ball
- 30:41Speaker 1: to it.
- 30:41Speaker 2: It would bought that up.
- 30:42Speaker 4: Actually, when so Marcus Jones gave up two touchdowns to
- 30:45Speaker 4: Drake London and just like, not great. Obviously, that's a
- 30:48Speaker 4: pretty terrible matchup. Maw and I brought up, like, you know,
- 30:51Speaker 4: was there anything you maybe could have done? That's kind
- 30:53Speaker 4: of a disadvantageous situation for Marcus, And he pointed out
- 30:56Speaker 4: Will like, hey, we've seen him do it, like he
- 30:58Speaker 4: broke it up against Keon Coleman sitting there.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Like, I know what you mean, but I feel like
- 31:03Speaker 2: you also know that's a little disingenuous. Those are very
- 31:06Speaker 2: different calibers of possession of receivers.
- 31:08Speaker 4: But yeah, it was kind of funny when that came
- 31:10Speaker 4: up and I was like, yeah, okay, I'll give it.
- 31:13Speaker 1: I get what you're getting at, but also like, no,
- 31:15Speaker 1: not really, don't do that.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Uh yeah, I don't think so.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Yeah, And I give me that. Like on one, I
- 31:22Speaker 1: think the Bills need to run the ball like every
- 31:24Speaker 1: single week, but especially from a past perspective, Give me
- 31:26Speaker 1: Kincaid and the tight ends running backs to match up
- 31:30Speaker 1: against the spine. Give me the linebackers and the safeties
- 31:33Speaker 1: as much in coverage as I can. And that's part
- 31:36Speaker 1: of the Bill's skill set in what they have in
- 31:37Speaker 1: the tight end running back room, but also like I
- 31:40Speaker 1: just I would rather not pass to these receivers against
- 31:44Speaker 1: Christian Gonzalez and Carlton Davis, like I just don't want
- 31:47Speaker 1: to live there. I think that's even with Davis being
- 31:50Speaker 1: and I think on the down side of his career
- 31:52Speaker 1: is still a pretty good CB two.
- 31:54Speaker 2: He's been good for the past two weeks, multiple past breakups,
- 31:57Speaker 2: two weeks.
- 31:57Speaker 1: In a row, like looking a little more like the
- 31:59Speaker 1: grave gigger, like that he was in Tampa Bay. I
- 32:02Speaker 1: think the world of Christian Gonzales like I think he's
- 32:04Speaker 1: his ceiling is only like his flour is only getting higher.
- 32:07Speaker 1: His ceiling is only getting higher. I think his ceiling
- 32:09Speaker 1: is to be like a top five cover corner like
- 32:11Speaker 1: in this league. I think he's already in that top
- 32:13Speaker 1: ten kind of conversation. So I don't even want to
- 32:15Speaker 1: play that game, Like I what the game I do
- 32:17Speaker 1: want to play is, Hey, I'm gonna go heavy and
- 32:21Speaker 1: run duo and try and bouncing outside and I'm gonna
- 32:23Speaker 1: make Christian Gonzales go one on one with James Cook.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Like that's the kind of game I want to play.
- 32:27Speaker 1: I want to play, Hey, can these Patriots linebackers cover
- 32:30Speaker 1: Dalton Kinkaid. The everything you alluded to kind of will
- 32:33Speaker 1: Carl alluded to to, Yeah, I am. I am completely
- 32:36Speaker 1: in lockstep with you there one thousand percent. And you know,
- 32:39Speaker 1: getting back to kind of wrap up this segment on
- 32:41Speaker 1: the Bills being feared. Aside from Josh Allen, I always
- 32:44Speaker 1: just think it's so interesting because they amongst the Bills
- 32:48Speaker 1: fan base there is the Bills love to pay their
- 32:50Speaker 1: own that that's their big thing, you know, draft, develop
- 32:53Speaker 1: re sign like that's what they want to be and
- 32:55Speaker 1: who they want to be. But even for myself, like
- 32:59Speaker 1: let alone, like the fan base, I think there is
- 33:01Speaker 1: constantly this conversation about this Bills team where it's like, okay,
- 33:07Speaker 1: you have Josh Allen, who is like s tier, a
- 33:10Speaker 1: tier type of dude, however you want to label it.
- 33:12Speaker 1: And then it's like, who else is kind of in
- 33:14Speaker 1: that conversation do you have you know anyone else? For
- 33:17Speaker 1: a while, it was Stefon Diggs, Patriots legend Steffhan Diggs,
- 33:21Speaker 1: and then they got rid of him. But especially when
- 33:23Speaker 1: you're always comparing him against the Chiefs or when it
- 33:25Speaker 1: was the Bengals for a bid, it was the Chiefs,
- 33:26Speaker 1: it was like, well, they have Mahomes and Chris Jones
- 33:30Speaker 1: and McDuffie. And then it was like, now they have
- 33:32Speaker 1: two All Pro interior linemen they drafted and then they
- 33:34Speaker 1: signed Joe Tooney, so they've got like three All pros
- 33:38Speaker 1: on the interior, they've got two All pros on defense,
- 33:40Speaker 1: they've got Mahomes, They've gotten then Read and Spags. But
- 33:44Speaker 1: from an on field perspective, it was all those dudes,
- 33:46Speaker 1: and then the Bills it was like a Josh Allen
- 33:49Speaker 1: or even the Bengals for a bit when they were rolling,
- 33:51Speaker 1: It's like, man, like you've got Burrow, and you've got
- 33:53Speaker 1: Chase and you've got Higgins, and oh, Jesse Bates is
- 33:57Speaker 1: pretty sweet. And then like there was a time where
- 33:59Speaker 1: Logan Wilson your main Pratt were arguably the best linebacker
- 34:01Speaker 1: duo in football, and it was like, oh and then
- 34:03Speaker 1: Trey Hendrickson. Just using those two teams as examples to
- 34:06Speaker 1: get compared with so much, And I'm always curious to
- 34:09Speaker 1: see from an outside perspective to kind of put it
- 34:11Speaker 1: into perspective for Bills fans whether or not they're too
- 34:15Speaker 1: harsh on their own guys. And I I think it's
- 34:19Speaker 1: very interesting how you framed the defense. You know, oh,
- 34:24Speaker 1: can they be opportunistic? Like what are they? And it wasn't,
- 34:27Speaker 1: you know, rightly or wrongly, you weren't like, yeah, you
- 34:29Speaker 1: got to worry about Greg Russo you know, maybe if
- 34:31Speaker 1: that Oliver is healthy, maybe he falls in the conversation
- 34:34Speaker 1: for you. Maybe if Treel Bernard was healthy, you know,
- 34:36Speaker 1: who knows. But I think it's very interesting that you
- 34:39Speaker 1: know from that outsider's perspective, and I think this exists
- 34:42Speaker 1: a lot outside of the team, and I think it
- 34:44Speaker 1: drives that point home even more for Bills fans and
- 34:47Speaker 1: people who watch this team every week that that's another
- 34:50Speaker 1: example of you know, you've got Josh Allen, but rightly
- 34:55Speaker 1: or wrongly, you've surrounded him with I think good players,
- 34:57Speaker 1: but a lot of them are like B minus to
- 34:59Speaker 1: be guys. Maybe some B pluses. There's that lack of
- 35:02Speaker 1: like a plus talent, a tier talent. And I also
- 35:05Speaker 1: think it's funny too, even when comparing to the Patriots
- 35:09Speaker 1: kind of a similar conversation right now. I think Christian
- 35:12Speaker 1: Gonzalez is the closest guy potentially, but I mean Milt
- 35:16Speaker 1: Williams is a dude, I think Barmore, if he doesn't
- 35:19Speaker 1: get knocked off track with the blood clots or whatever
- 35:21Speaker 1: the hell he like, he was ascending to like, oh another.
- 35:24Speaker 1: I mean, there's like a million amazing defensive tackles in football,
- 35:27Speaker 1: but I was like, Barmore is playing himself into this
- 35:29Speaker 1: nasty perspective. Same thing with like Milt Williams. But you've
- 35:33Speaker 1: got guys like, Okay, are they there? Are they not?
- 35:35Speaker 1: Maybe a little more so for the Pats, maybe not.
- 35:38Speaker 1: I think this question is always so interesting to post
- 35:39Speaker 1: from an outside perspective because within the fan base, everyone
- 35:43Speaker 1: not everyone. Most people feel like it's Josh Allen and
- 35:46Speaker 1: everyone else, and it's Josh Allen is the frontman, and
- 35:49Speaker 1: then everybody in the back is like, you don't know
- 35:52Speaker 1: who that guy's name is on the CD, Like that
- 35:54Speaker 1: guy always wears the backwards hat so you can identify
- 35:56Speaker 1: him because nobody knows who he is. Like it's I
- 35:59Speaker 1: feel like like that to Bill's fans and maybe even
- 36:01Speaker 1: outside as well.
- 36:02Speaker 4: It's like they're they're better than the sum of their parts,
- 36:05Speaker 4: which is I mean, that's what great defenses are. But
- 36:07Speaker 4: it's a fact that even in the Patriots They're known
- 36:10Speaker 4: for having defenses like that where there weren't really many
- 36:12Speaker 4: household names, but they had a Stefan Gilmore, or they
- 36:15Speaker 4: had in the Key to Leave where they had a
- 36:17Speaker 4: Dante High Tower, where it's like it's okay to not
- 36:20Speaker 4: be a star study defense, but you do need like
- 36:22Speaker 4: two or three pillars that you really build everything else around.
- 36:26Speaker 4: And it's like everybody can be complimentary. You can have
- 36:28Speaker 4: like a Greg Russo, Caleb on Chase on I feel
- 36:30Speaker 4: like are in similar categories. Is like they're guys who
- 36:33Speaker 4: contribute to your wins, but I don't think a lot
- 36:35Speaker 4: of teams are going up against them and saying like woof,
- 36:38Speaker 4: we really got to be worried about him. It's like
- 36:39Speaker 4: he's probably gonna make a play or two, but you're
- 36:41Speaker 4: not gonna hearing his name the entire.
- 36:43Speaker 1: Tay Yes, And in that vein I who was a
- 36:48Speaker 1: I think Ben Solak was talking about it in relation
- 36:50Speaker 1: to I saw something today Jalen Hurt the Jalen Hurts
- 36:54Speaker 1: like conversation. So it was like Hurts versus Caleb Williams
- 36:58Speaker 1: whatever show he was on, and he was talking about
- 37:00Speaker 1: Hurts being a guy like, oh, you can win with
- 37:02Speaker 1: not a guy you win because of. And I think
- 37:05Speaker 1: the Bills have a lot of those guys. They have
- 37:06Speaker 1: a lot of guys now where it's like, oh, yeah,
- 37:08Speaker 1: you can win with that guy. Yeah you can win
- 37:09Speaker 1: with that guy. But how many guys do you have
- 37:11Speaker 1: that you win because of? And they're always comparing, you know.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Again he use the chiefs of the example, how many
- 37:17Speaker 1: games do they won because of Chris Jones or Trent McDuffie, like,
- 37:20Speaker 1: and it's like the Bills haven't had that type of
- 37:23Speaker 1: guy or that type of level.
- 37:25Speaker 4: He talks about that with the playoffs too, where it
- 37:27Speaker 4: always feels like they don't have the guy who in
- 37:29Speaker 4: the fourth quarter makes that play that when you do
- 37:32Speaker 4: go back if they win, you're saying, hey, you know
- 37:35Speaker 4: that was a game changer.
- 37:36Speaker 2: It feels like it's Allen who has to do that constantly.
- 37:38Speaker 4: And I cannot, for the life of me, ever remember
- 37:40Speaker 4: one of those kind of game changing plays from the
- 37:43Speaker 4: Bills defense.
- 37:44Speaker 1: Yeah, and you know, rightly or wrongly or unfairly or not,
- 37:48Speaker 1: like they had that great safety duo and Hide and
- 37:50Speaker 1: Poyer and they would make plays for you. You had
- 37:53Speaker 1: you know, Trey White wasn't all pro but then he
- 37:56Speaker 1: gets hurt in you know, an important year for you,
- 37:58Speaker 1: when he tears his ACL against the Saint. Then you
- 38:00Speaker 1: bring in von Miller to be that guy, and he
- 38:03Speaker 1: was that guy. He tears his me before you can
- 38:06Speaker 1: really kind of get to that postseason. And then I
- 38:08Speaker 1: would say another person who I think is close, and
- 38:11Speaker 1: we got the comment here from Alex saying, Joey Bosa's close.
- 38:14Speaker 4: I think it's just in the force fumbles he that
- 38:17Speaker 4: terrifies me.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Bosa has been as advertised. He has been a top
- 38:20Speaker 1: ten edge from a metric standpoint, from a stats perspective,
- 38:23Speaker 1: even on tape, like he's had some struggles with the
- 38:26Speaker 1: run because of how he takes chances and just how
- 38:28Speaker 1: the Bills have fit the run schemmatically and structurally. But
- 38:30Speaker 1: he was as advertised. But in typical fashion he has
- 38:34Speaker 1: He's picked up injuries that aren't debilitating, but he's got
- 38:38Speaker 1: a this and he's got that, and you get to
- 38:40Speaker 1: the playoffs or week sixteen, seventeen eighteen, whatever, and it's
- 38:44Speaker 1: like he's a shell of himself. But to his credit,
- 38:46Speaker 1: he's been playing with one hand, one wrist. He's still
- 38:50Speaker 1: been their best pass rusher, whether you want to take
- 38:52Speaker 1: that as a positive for him or as a negative
- 38:54Speaker 1: for the rest of the Bills front or pass rush.
- 38:56Speaker 1: You know, to each their own. But I think like
- 38:58Speaker 1: Bosa like has been his advertised but unfortunately he's gotten
- 39:03Speaker 1: banged up, and yeah, just fitching fields injuries.
- 39:05Speaker 4: I feel like the injuries are what keep the Bills
- 39:07Speaker 4: from having those guys. That scared me because every season
- 39:10Speaker 4: I feel like when we do our previews, it's if
- 39:12Speaker 4: he's available, Yeah, I'm worried. Von Miller was the exact
- 39:14Speaker 4: same conversation, where if he's healthy, I am scared.
- 39:17Speaker 2: But they're best players keep getting hurt in.
- 39:18Speaker 1: That much, especially yes, and VN was like VN was
- 39:22Speaker 1: a true bucket getter, but especially if your team is
- 39:25Speaker 1: made up of a whole bunch of like if your
- 39:26Speaker 1: team is basically, yeah, we don't have any stars, but
- 39:30Speaker 1: everybody is pretty good. You need everybody there because you
- 39:34Speaker 1: don't have your true bucket getters who are just like, oh, yeah,
- 39:37Speaker 1: let's just clear it out and play ice of ball.
- 39:38Speaker 1: Let this guy go to work. You need a good
- 39:41Speaker 1: starting five to be able to create space and shoot
- 39:43Speaker 1: the three and move off ball and all that stuff.
- 39:46Speaker 1: When you start to get those injuries, and now you're
- 39:49Speaker 1: putting depth guys in who can still get the job done.
- 39:52Speaker 1: But things start to drop a little bit when you
- 39:54Speaker 1: are a some of the parts you need all the
- 39:56Speaker 1: parts because you don't have that individual who can raise
- 40:00Speaker 1: the bar and swing the pendulum like that. And Yeah,
- 40:03Speaker 1: it just seems like year after year they get to
- 40:05Speaker 1: the you know where you got to kind of baptize
- 40:08Speaker 1: by fire a little bit, or you know, now you know,
- 40:10Speaker 1: from the frying pan into the fire type of deal,
- 40:12Speaker 1: and it's just like they don't have the guys because
- 40:14Speaker 1: they're banged up, and the guys they do have, even
- 40:16Speaker 1: when they're healthier, good, But it's like how much difference
- 40:18Speaker 1: makers are they? Oh, it's such as it's on the
- 40:20Speaker 1: top of mind everybody. Some people think, you know, hey,
- 40:23Speaker 1: Brandon Bean found guys like Khalishakir and Christian Benford on
- 40:26Speaker 1: day three and they've crushed it. And then other people
- 40:28Speaker 1: are like, yeah, but Rousseau hasn't been a true one,
- 40:30Speaker 1: and ed Oliver hasn't been a true this and the
- 40:32Speaker 1: misses on early picks and so on and so forth. Yeah,
- 40:35Speaker 1: it's always a fun or not conversation depending on how
- 40:39Speaker 1: you look at it and want to, you know, have
- 40:40Speaker 1: that conversation somewhat of a fun conversation, depending again on
- 40:44Speaker 1: how you look at and talking about early picks. Mister
- 40:47Speaker 1: Drake May for the New England Patriots, I think second
- 40:51Speaker 1: now for a lot of folks and MVP Odds maybe
- 40:53Speaker 1: behind Matthew Stafford. But a season where you and I
- 40:57Speaker 1: talked about it again back when the Bills the Pats earlier,
- 41:00Speaker 1: like just how great of a fit he is in
- 41:03Speaker 1: mcdanialds's offense, and for me what he's done within the
- 41:07Speaker 1: structure being on time and being on schedule so much.
- 41:10Speaker 1: But then also like, oh okay, it's second eleven. Okay,
- 41:13Speaker 1: let me just go do some Drake May stuff. So
- 41:15Speaker 1: much of the first game against the Bills was Drake
- 41:19Speaker 1: May doing Drake May stuff. Like for as much as
- 41:22Speaker 1: Josh Allen has done that the teams, it was like
- 41:24Speaker 1: the Bills got some karma with what Drake May is doing.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Like he's stiff arming defensive tackles and got d Lineman
- 41:30Speaker 1: hanging on him, and he's throwing sidear him and changing
- 41:32Speaker 1: arm angles and doing all this crazy stuff, you know,
- 41:35Speaker 1: for you in terms of his arrival. Where is Drake
- 41:38Speaker 1: May at for you? In I guess his development timeline?
- 41:42Speaker 1: You know, is he on schedule? Is he ahead? Is
- 41:45Speaker 1: he way ahead? Is he way way ahead? You know?
- 41:48Speaker 1: And then within that talk about you know, McDaniel's influence
- 41:51Speaker 1: on him and how important he's been for May's development
- 41:55Speaker 1: and where he is right now as a quarterback.
- 41:57Speaker 2: He's way ahead.
- 41:58Speaker 4: And that's just someone who thought a lot of him
- 42:01Speaker 4: before he was drafted. When he was drafted, Like, I
- 42:04Speaker 4: have been a big Drake may guy.
- 42:06Speaker 1: And I remember being on your show and you were like,
- 42:08Speaker 1: who was the one person you didn't because you we
- 42:10Speaker 1: did the home at home like we always do, and
- 42:12Speaker 1: you were like, who is the one player you don't
- 42:15Speaker 1: want the Bills to get, you know, or the Patriots
- 42:17Speaker 1: to get. You were like, oh, is it like Marvin
- 42:18Speaker 1: Harrison Junior falling out was like Drake May. I don't
- 42:20Speaker 1: I don't want them to get Drake Maye Like, don't
- 42:22Speaker 1: let them get Drake May And yeah, I'm right there
- 42:24Speaker 1: with you.
- 42:25Speaker 2: And I think we all thought there were going to
- 42:26Speaker 2: be areas where we needed to improve.
- 42:28Speaker 4: There was the accuracy, There was a tendency to do
- 42:30Speaker 4: some silly things, yeah, and just the fact that he
- 42:32Speaker 4: had very little experience as a college starter. But yeah,
- 42:37Speaker 4: I mean well ahead of schedule because I mean MVP.
- 42:40Speaker 4: No one was predicting he was going to be MVP
- 42:42Speaker 4: in year two. Even me is maybe the most optimistic person.
- 42:45Speaker 4: I think the most optimistic person on the Patriots be Unfortunately,
- 42:47Speaker 4: it's basically my personality trait. But the biggest reason is
- 42:51Speaker 4: there's a lot of reasons, but from Josh McDaniel's perspective
- 42:55Speaker 4: as a schemer and as a play caller and all
- 42:58Speaker 4: these things, he doesn't make things is too difficult on Drake. Now,
- 43:02Speaker 4: this is a quarterback friendly offense where there are a
- 43:04Speaker 4: lot of responsibilities, so there's answers for everything. Very rarely
- 43:08Speaker 4: is Drake going into a play. Rarely, if ever, is
- 43:10Speaker 4: he going into a play where there aren't really any
- 43:11Speaker 4: good answers, Which means you have to set the protection,
- 43:15Speaker 4: you have to make sure you know where the rush
- 43:17Speaker 4: is coming from, set it right, and then you know
- 43:20Speaker 4: you have the rout adjustments and all those things. And
- 43:22Speaker 4: Drake is a very natural thrower. He reads face and
- 43:25Speaker 4: leverage so well. I thought that would work very well
- 43:27Speaker 4: for him because he doesn't play the way it's done
- 43:30Speaker 4: on paper. You know, he wants to be able to
- 43:32Speaker 4: exploit the weaknesses that he's presented with.
- 43:34Speaker 2: That's what the system's all about. But also you see
- 43:37Speaker 2: that like Josh McDaniels will repeat play calls.
- 43:39Speaker 4: There was like that stick concept. I think they ran
- 43:42Speaker 4: it two or three times against the Bills things because
- 43:45Speaker 4: they know that against different coverages they'll do different things.
- 43:48Speaker 4: And I think I actually asked Josh about this, or
- 43:50Speaker 4: I asked Drake about Josh being willing to do that
- 43:53Speaker 4: because it's something you see.
- 43:54Speaker 2: In college not so much in the NFL.
- 43:56Speaker 4: And he said, well, yeah, I mean because defense are
- 43:59Speaker 4: going to play it different. You don't know where I'm
- 44:00Speaker 4: gonna go with the ball. And that's where when you
- 44:02Speaker 4: look at the stat sheet, different guys perform each week.
- 44:06Speaker 2: You have different leading receivers.
- 44:07Speaker 4: Sometimes there's like a bunch of different guys who just
- 44:09Speaker 4: have forty yards, but half their catches went for conversions.
- 44:13Speaker 4: And that's a big reason why. And you look at
- 44:15Speaker 4: even the Patriots run rate. They run I think at
- 44:18Speaker 4: top ten rate, and the run game is.
- 44:20Speaker 2: A very good.
- 44:21Speaker 1: No imagine if it was with how much they run
- 44:23Speaker 1: the ball. To your point, like that would be crazy.
- 44:26Speaker 1: It is very frustrating. That might be a later thing.
- 44:28Speaker 1: I'm just hoping it gets to a respectable level this season.
- 44:30Speaker 2: Yes, but that's what.
- 44:32Speaker 1: I'm wanted from the Bills run defense. I'm like, just
- 44:33Speaker 1: don't be terrible, Like I know you're not gonna be amazing,
- 44:35Speaker 1: Just be respectable and like average to slightly below. Don't
- 44:38Speaker 1: be completely.
- 44:39Speaker 2: Deficient, just be okay.
- 44:41Speaker 4: But they refuse to put everything on Drake's shoulders, but
- 44:44Speaker 4: at the same time, they understand what he is. And
- 44:47Speaker 4: when you have against the Saints, they have something like
- 44:49Speaker 4: a third and eleven situation, he throws across his body
- 44:52Speaker 4: or something, completes it.
- 44:53Speaker 2: Oh, it's coming back, and then they just decide to
- 44:56Speaker 2: do the same thing again.
- 44:57Speaker 4: Like they're very willing to just let him drop back
- 44:59Speaker 4: in five at will, and he's actually paying it off
- 45:02Speaker 4: because he's making good decisions. He's being coached well, he
- 45:04Speaker 4: knows where his answers are, he knows how to take
- 45:07Speaker 4: those kind of selective chances where he's not just gonna
- 45:10Speaker 4: throw into a bunch of bad windows.
- 45:11Speaker 2: But the scheme does a good job giving him shot opportunities.
- 45:14Speaker 4: He capitalizes on them and also Josh McDaniel's unlike what
- 45:17Speaker 4: you saw last year.
- 45:18Speaker 2: He gives his.
- 45:19Speaker 4: Tackles and his offensive line held where when Drake's taking
- 45:22Speaker 4: these deep drops, it's a max protect scheme where you
- 45:24Speaker 4: see the running backs chipping on both edges so that
- 45:27Speaker 4: you don't have these elite edge rushers going up against
- 45:29Speaker 4: tackles like Will Campbell and Darian Lowe who were good,
- 45:32Speaker 4: but they're not elite, and you do need to give
- 45:34Speaker 4: him a bit of an advantage. So I think the
- 45:36Speaker 4: scheme puts Drake and everybody else in a lot of
- 45:38Speaker 4: positions to succeed. But I also think the way he's
- 45:40Speaker 4: being taught, the way he sees the field is a
- 45:42Speaker 4: reflection of both his ability to learn and process information
- 45:46Speaker 4: and make progress week to week. Like one of the
- 45:48Speaker 4: biggest issues he had against the Bills is sometimes I
- 45:50Speaker 4: thought he just held out to the ball too long,
- 45:52Speaker 4: Like there were times where there were opportunities and he
- 45:53Speaker 4: didn't get it out.
- 45:54Speaker 2: But you see growth.
- 45:55Speaker 4: If there's something he struggles with for a couple of games,
- 45:57Speaker 4: usually by the third or fourth you start to see
- 45:59Speaker 4: that it's something he has gotten better at. Testament to him,
- 46:02Speaker 4: but also a huge testament to the coaching and their
- 46:04Speaker 4: ability to allow him to thrive within the system but
- 46:07Speaker 4: also kind of just unleash him when they need to
- 46:09Speaker 4: as well.
- 46:11Speaker 1: Yeah, my, that's It's just I'm in a similar boat.
- 46:14Speaker 1: Like I think he's way ahead. My my biggest thing
- 46:17Speaker 1: for him, I really did think he was going to
- 46:19Speaker 1: be like a good du in the NFL. My biggest
- 46:23Speaker 1: thing was how long would it take him too similar
- 46:27Speaker 1: kind of Josh Allen. How long would it take him
- 46:30Speaker 1: to not do like the wild horse type stuff. How
- 46:33Speaker 1: long would it take him to like control his power
- 46:37Speaker 1: and play within scheme and structure and then bust it
- 46:40Speaker 1: out like when he needed to. And that was my
- 46:43Speaker 1: big fear with like them getting McDaniels from a Bill's perspective,
- 46:47Speaker 1: I was like, Ooh, that's a dude who's going to
- 46:49Speaker 1: teach you to play on time and how to read
- 46:52Speaker 1: and go through your progressions. And then I was like, Okay,
- 46:55Speaker 1: maybe it'll clash a little bit, but it hasn't. And
- 46:59Speaker 1: getting him to a and like play on time and
- 47:02Speaker 1: in rhythm and understand Yeah, we can call this concept,
- 47:05Speaker 1: but I know where to put my eyes based on
- 47:07Speaker 1: the coverage. I know what to do pre snap versus
- 47:09Speaker 1: post snap, and I know, okay, I can see the rotation,
- 47:12Speaker 1: I see the spin, I see this. I'm going to
- 47:14Speaker 1: this guy. I'm going to that guy and then be
- 47:16Speaker 1: able to still have it's third and twelve, third and thirteen.
- 47:20Speaker 1: I can run for it, or I can extend the
- 47:22Speaker 1: play and make some ridiculous throw where it can be
- 47:24Speaker 1: first and ten and the blitz is gonna get me.
- 47:26Speaker 1: But I can let a dude hang on to me
- 47:28Speaker 1: and I can spit it out side arms Stefon Diggs
- 47:30Speaker 1: and you know, turn into a five yard gain instead
- 47:32Speaker 1: of a seven yard loss.
- 47:34Speaker 2: Just cut in the pocket real quick. I couldn that.
- 47:37Speaker 4: But that's kind of one of the biggest areas that
- 47:39Speaker 4: he's improved as well, because he doesn't drop his eyes
- 47:41Speaker 4: and panic nearly as much as he did as a rookie.
- 47:44Speaker 4: He's actually willing to take those quick hitches to get
- 47:47Speaker 4: himself a better track and then fire. That's been a
- 47:49Speaker 4: huge part of the downfield success as well. With another
- 47:52Speaker 4: thing where you see you can tell he practices it.
- 47:55Speaker 4: It literally looks like a drill where just hitch, hitch, throw,
- 47:58Speaker 4: and the offensive line he's given them some beautiful pockets.
- 48:01Speaker 4: But he's actually taking advantage of them, which is not
- 48:03Speaker 4: something you see from all young quarterbacks, and again not
- 48:05Speaker 4: even something you saw from Drake on a consistent basis.
- 48:08Speaker 1: I keep waiting for, like the deep ball success to
- 48:11Speaker 1: regress to the meme because I'm like, it has to,
- 48:12Speaker 1: like the odds are it has to. But to your point,
- 48:14Speaker 1: like the fundamentals and the technique are just so I
- 48:18Speaker 1: you explained like describing it now, like and I'm thinking
- 48:20Speaker 1: of like the pass games I've watched and spent a
- 48:22Speaker 1: bunch of them, Like I'm thinking like someone coming around,
- 48:25Speaker 1: like the right tackle and ball here and he just
- 48:28Speaker 1: turns into his chest and he steps up and then
- 48:30Speaker 1: steps up and launches and then it's like, oh, that's
- 48:32Speaker 1: a great pass. And it's just he continues to do that,
- 48:36Speaker 1: And yeah, that was my biggest thing, Like how long
- 48:39Speaker 1: would it take him to play within an offense in
- 48:43Speaker 1: the NFL? And again, getting a guy like McDaniels, let
- 48:46Speaker 1: alone with kind of the upgrades and updates that they've
- 48:47Speaker 1: done on the offensive side is a great comment here
- 48:52Speaker 1: from Charles saying one thing that surprised me was may maturity.
- 48:54Speaker 1: He takes sacks at times, so he's not putting the
- 48:56Speaker 1: ball in harm's way. Even some of the sacks he takes,
- 48:59Speaker 1: he's not taken the all. My god, we just why
- 49:01Speaker 1: would you take that sack. It's like, oh, you took
- 49:03Speaker 1: a sack and he lost like one or two yards.
- 49:05Speaker 4: He was for a while too. He was like in
- 49:07Speaker 4: the middle of the season. That was a big problem
- 49:09Speaker 4: that I kept harping on. I'm like, hey, if we're
- 49:11Speaker 4: gonna compliment Drake when he's doing well, we need to
- 49:13Speaker 4: acknowledge where he's struggling so the when he improves we
- 49:16Speaker 4: can get miss flowers. And I was like, he's taking
- 49:18Speaker 4: too many two yard sacks running out of bounce and
- 49:20Speaker 4: you should throw it away again, holding onto the ball
- 49:22Speaker 4: when you have Stefan Diggs wide open over the middle
- 49:24Speaker 4: and for some reason you don't decide to throw it.
- 49:27Speaker 4: And that's one thing you haven't really seen from him
- 49:29Speaker 4: in about a month, where the pressure of his sack.
- 49:32Speaker 4: I think it's still a little bit deceiving. But like
- 49:34Speaker 4: you said, sometimes he's taking sacks and it's smart because
- 49:36Speaker 4: there's nothing there.
- 49:37Speaker 2: Live to fight another day. And the maturity is something
- 49:39Speaker 2: you saw even last year.
- 49:40Speaker 4: But this summer with the eye discipline, keeping your eyes
- 49:43Speaker 4: down field and then not putting the ball in harm's way.
- 49:45Speaker 2: You saw it, and then.
- 49:47Speaker 4: It kind of requests obviously once the live bullets start flying,
- 49:50Speaker 4: that's gonna happen. But his ability, as I said, to
- 49:53Speaker 4: go a few weeks and be like, Okay, I can't
- 49:55Speaker 4: do this anymore and actually address it has been wild
- 49:58Speaker 4: to watch for a twenty three year old in his
- 50:00Speaker 4: second season as a starting quarterbacks, first full season, I'm sorry,
- 50:03Speaker 4: as a start.
- 50:04Speaker 1: Here, yeah, and not a ton of like it's not
- 50:05Speaker 1: like some three year starter at college and you know,
- 50:08Speaker 1: Caroline is not bad, but it's not like he came
- 50:10Speaker 1: from this ultra polished program even like mac Brown's a
- 50:12Speaker 1: good dude, Like they're like, it's just yeah, it's been
- 50:15Speaker 1: interesting to see him grow and we'll be your seat
- 50:18Speaker 1: if he continues to grow or not. Final segment here
- 50:22Speaker 1: for you, tailor, and then we'll get you out, you know,
- 50:25Speaker 1: putting it within like a Bill's lens. But even from
- 50:27Speaker 1: a Patriots aspect to like the and everyone to talk
- 50:31Speaker 1: about this point, like the AFC this year has kind
- 50:32Speaker 1: of been turned on its head. Everyone came into this
- 50:35Speaker 1: year and it was like it's a three team race
- 50:36Speaker 1: in the AFC. It's the Chiefs and the Bills and
- 50:38Speaker 1: the Ravens. We'll see what the Texans can do, or
- 50:40Speaker 1: maybe the Bengals. And now we're sitting here and it's
- 50:43Speaker 1: like all the teams, the three teams at the top
- 50:44Speaker 1: of the AFC are the you know, from a record
- 50:47Speaker 1: standings perspective, are like the Broncos, the Patriots, and the Jags.
- 50:50Speaker 1: And we're sitting here and it's week fifteen, with how
- 50:53Speaker 1: the playoff picture stands today, how do you see things
- 50:57Speaker 1: shaking out? Where's your head at? It doesn't have to
- 51:00Speaker 1: necessarily be a prediction thing. You can give some if
- 51:02Speaker 1: you want, but you know, kind of just talk about
- 51:04Speaker 1: the field and what or who you see as being
- 51:08Speaker 1: the most important to deciding the AFC. Do you think
- 51:11Speaker 1: there's you know, some team that kind of holds all
- 51:14Speaker 1: the cards and it's just a matter of if the
- 51:16Speaker 1: right thing clicks. Do you truly see it as wide
- 51:18Speaker 1: open and it could it be anyone? And also I
- 51:21Speaker 1: guess within that actually I'll keep this second question after
- 51:24Speaker 1: you answer that Florida's yours.
- 51:25Speaker 4: Well, I think this game is really going to be
- 51:28Speaker 4: maybe the biggest thing that decides this conference moving forward,
- 51:32Speaker 4: because if the first of all, the Broncos are in
- 51:35Speaker 4: first place, but they have some pretty tough games coming up,
- 51:38Speaker 4: or I could very much see their win streak ending
- 51:40Speaker 4: at some point.
- 51:41Speaker 2: If the Patriots beat the Bills, maybe the.
- 51:44Speaker 4: Ravens give you some trouble, but there's not really any
- 51:46Speaker 4: other games that you think they should lose, aside from
- 51:48Speaker 4: maybe you know, if they get things locked up, they
- 51:50Speaker 4: put in their backups in the last game of the
- 51:52Speaker 4: season or something like that. Now, if the Bills win
- 51:54Speaker 4: this game, then you start talking about a potential shake
- 51:57Speaker 4: up just in the division. And obviously then if they
- 52:00Speaker 4: continue to improve and maybe that leads to a skid
- 52:02Speaker 4: for the Patriots, that could completely change the complexion of
- 52:05Speaker 4: things and the Broncos were able to potentially hang.
- 52:07Speaker 2: On to their spot.
- 52:08Speaker 4: Or I don't know, Like I'm not great when it
- 52:11Speaker 4: comes to playoff scenarios necessarily, but I too know, if
- 52:13Speaker 4: the Bills win this game, a lot of things could
- 52:15Speaker 4: change in the complexion of the AFC playoff race. So
- 52:18Speaker 4: I think this game is going to be the most pivotal.
- 52:21Speaker 4: I wouldn't be surprised if the Bills, I mean, they
- 52:23Speaker 4: still have some tough opponents. Mean, well, Eagles aren't really
- 52:25Speaker 4: what they were actually, No, not a lot of tough
- 52:27Speaker 4: opponents of the outies. They got, the Jets, the Browns.
- 52:29Speaker 4: It's really the Eagles, and who knows where they are.
- 52:31Speaker 4: So I mean, I really do feel like this could
- 52:34Speaker 4: be a potential inflection point. And I think if the
- 52:36Speaker 4: Patriots are able to sweep the Bills, I think that
- 52:39Speaker 4: silence is a lot of doubters. And I think, you know,
- 52:42Speaker 4: Cam Newton, you gotta beat the man to be the man.
- 52:44Speaker 4: It's saying then saying, oh, yes, do it twice, you know.
- 52:46Speaker 4: But I think while that's a silly argument, I do
- 52:49Speaker 4: think it's something. The argument that Cam specifically made was
- 52:52Speaker 4: silly because he didn't really do anything to back it.
- 52:54Speaker 4: But I do think it's a fair sentiment that, Okay,
- 52:56Speaker 4: maybe you got lucky, right, Maybe that was just early
- 52:59Speaker 4: in the season. Obviously the Bills didn't play their best game.
- 53:01Speaker 4: They missed out on a lot of opportunities, but two
- 53:03Speaker 4: times in a row, there's not a lot of whole
- 53:05Speaker 4: not a lot of excuses you can make, and I
- 53:07Speaker 4: think it'll change how teams see the Patriots, but also
- 53:10Speaker 4: potentially the Bills in the context of, oh, they really
- 53:13Speaker 4: are starting the surge and building their own win streak
- 53:16Speaker 4: and potentially making a case to be the Bills team
- 53:19Speaker 4: that we expect heading into the playoffs versus Josh Allen
- 53:22Speaker 4: and kind of like we talked about his imagine or
- 53:24Speaker 4: his amazing friends.
- 53:26Speaker 1: Within that, do you think what we're seeing right now
- 53:31Speaker 1: is it a blip for twenty twenty five or do
- 53:33Speaker 1: you think kind of similar to the changing in the
- 53:35Speaker 1: guard in the AFC's conversation we have, do you think
- 53:38Speaker 1: they're starting to be changing in the garden the conference? Like?
- 53:41Speaker 1: Are are the Ravens on a downturn? Are the Chiefs
- 53:44Speaker 1: on a downturn? Are the Bills on a downturn? Is
- 53:46Speaker 1: this like kind of the rise of the Broncos or
- 53:50Speaker 1: the Patriots or some other team? Like are we in
- 53:52Speaker 1: the midst of kind of a conference change? Or is
- 53:55Speaker 1: this more just you know, some teams are real, some
- 53:57Speaker 1: teams are not right now, and it's just how everything
- 54:00Speaker 1: shook out this year from injuries and opponents and matchups
- 54:02Speaker 1: and all that kind of stuff.
- 54:04Speaker 4: I think we could because I think that the Ravens
- 54:07Speaker 4: have kind of shown that they're not They're contenders, but
- 54:13Speaker 4: I feel like there's always an asterisk because I always
- 54:16Speaker 4: feel like they're gonna screw it up for themselves every year.
- 54:18Speaker 1: I said it in the Thanksgiving game with all the
- 54:20Speaker 1: turnovers at the Bengals, I was like, this is a
- 54:23Speaker 1: playoff Ravens performance where they just find a way to
- 54:25Speaker 1: like seventy yard completion down to the two turn it over.
- 54:29Speaker 4: I literally was telling I was explaining to Liz this
- 54:33Speaker 4: exact thing where I was like, the Ravens are good,
- 54:35Speaker 4: but I swear they always find ways to shoot themselves
- 54:37Speaker 4: in the foot in big moments in Isaiah likely fumbled
- 54:39Speaker 4: before he reached the end zone literally seconds later.
- 54:42Speaker 2: It was insane. So I think the Ravens we've kind
- 54:44Speaker 2: of seen like Islamar are very good. Yes.
- 54:46Speaker 4: Do I think they have the full picture, even though
- 54:49Speaker 4: you know they have some studs on defense and injuries
- 54:51Speaker 4: really screwed them before. Being totally honest, Yeah, but I
- 54:54Speaker 4: just have never or it's been a minute since I've
- 54:57Speaker 4: seen the Ravens as a team that I would really
- 54:59Speaker 4: expect to actually make it to the super Bowl.
- 55:01Speaker 2: The Bills, I don't think are that far.
- 55:03Speaker 4: I feel like they're a good offseason away from returning
- 55:06Speaker 4: to being a very scary team, but I think it's
- 55:08Speaker 4: gonna take some really big hits to get there.
- 55:11Speaker 2: The Chiefs that the Chiefs, however, I think are about
- 55:14Speaker 2: to go.
- 55:16Speaker 4: I think they're about to have a rough couple of
- 55:17Speaker 4: years because you've kind of already seen that they didn't
- 55:21Speaker 4: quite have the pieces around Mahomes for him to be
- 55:25Speaker 4: the superstar that we know he can be. And while
- 55:28Speaker 4: I think part of that is on him, and I
- 55:29Speaker 4: think he hasn't been, this is a tough conversation to
- 55:33Speaker 4: have because I really need the supporting cast has put
- 55:35Speaker 4: him in some really bad spots, but I just feel
- 55:37Speaker 4: like they with so many of their good plays, like
- 55:40Speaker 4: Travis Kelcey, this might be his last season. I just
- 55:43Speaker 4: don't know if they're necessarily the cream of the crop
- 55:45Speaker 4: in the AFC anymore. And I think it may be
- 55:47Speaker 4: a couple of years until they really get to that point,
- 55:49Speaker 4: because I think they're really gonna need to retool and
- 55:51Speaker 4: I think they're gonna have to add some more pieces,
- 55:53Speaker 4: and I think the Broncos and Patriots are in positions
- 55:55Speaker 4: where they could be good for the foreseeable future.
- 55:58Speaker 2: And even I mean Chargers, their injuries.
- 56:00Speaker 1: Man, every year.
- 56:01Speaker 4: Man, they kind of are like the Ravens but even
- 56:05Speaker 4: worse injury. Look, honestly, where it's like they're good and
- 56:08Speaker 4: I you know, I I respect them and I think
- 56:10Speaker 4: they can you know, make things interesting.
- 56:12Speaker 2: But I don't think they're legitimate contenders.
- 56:14Speaker 4: So it's a it's it's tough because I think there
- 56:16Speaker 4: has just been such a weird season and it's really
- 56:19Speaker 4: showing that you need to support your quarterbacks because they
- 56:21Speaker 4: cannot in fact carry a team.
- 56:23Speaker 2: We've really seen that the past years.
- 56:25Speaker 4: But I could see, you know, in the foreseeable future,
- 56:28Speaker 4: like even the Colts, if Daniel Jones can come back healthy,
- 56:31Speaker 4: Like that's a very talented team. But I wouldn't be
- 56:33Speaker 4: surprised if they start, you know, being perennial contenders. So yeah,
- 56:36Speaker 4: I think there could be a changing of the guards.
- 56:38Speaker 1: But I uh sneakily within that I and you kind
- 56:44Speaker 1: of lose to you know, setting your quarterbacks up. If
- 56:48Speaker 1: the Texans can just pour some good resources into the
- 56:51Speaker 1: offensive line. Yeah, I really feel like the tech because
- 56:54Speaker 1: that defense isn't going anywhere for the foreseeable future. And
- 56:57Speaker 1: I say that defense like Stingley and Lasseter and Anderson
- 57:01Speaker 1: and Hunter and everything kind of goes from there. But
- 57:04Speaker 1: you are set up from a contract standpoint, from a
- 57:06Speaker 1: youth standpoint, from a coaching standpoint, player standpoint, to be
- 57:09Speaker 1: so good on that side of the ball for some
- 57:11Speaker 1: years they'll have to deal with contracts and attrition and
- 57:13Speaker 1: to an other degree. But if they can just fix
- 57:15Speaker 1: the offensive line a little bit, help CJ. Stroud, They're
- 57:18Speaker 1: a sneaky one for the future. They're a sneaky one
- 57:20Speaker 1: for me this year. I think if they can just
- 57:22Speaker 1: get halfway decent offensive ball there might pick for the AFC.
- 57:26Speaker 2: But let's say the team.
- 57:27Speaker 1: You don't want to face that, No, I don't want
- 57:29Speaker 1: to face them at all, Like I don't. I just
- 57:33Speaker 1: I know I'm a defensive guy, and maybe buyas people
- 57:35Speaker 1: might disagree, defense wins championships and that defense is crazy
- 57:39Speaker 1: good considering how much their offense has sucked this year,
- 57:42Speaker 1: and not help them and that defense just balls out
- 57:45Speaker 1: and not they're not crazy creative. I they just know
- 57:48Speaker 1: who they are and they do what they do. And
- 57:49Speaker 1: they all play like Veloco raptors or.
- 57:52Speaker 2: Is a living weapon.
- 57:54Speaker 1: Yes, they all play like that, though, like they all
- 57:56Speaker 1: play like you owe them rent money, and they're ready
- 57:59Speaker 1: to take your head off any moment. It's nuts. I'm
- 58:01Speaker 1: gonna talk about them a little more once I send
- 58:03Speaker 1: you on your way. I want to be cognizant of
- 58:05Speaker 1: your time. I've already kept you longer than I said
- 58:06Speaker 1: it would. I apologize, Taylor. You are awesome. Tell people
- 58:10Speaker 1: in case they don't know who you are, what you do,
- 58:12Speaker 1: where they can find you. The floor is yours. Do
- 58:14Speaker 1: all your stuff, then go take Liz out, do your thing.
- 58:16Speaker 1: I appreciate the hell OUTI.
- 58:17Speaker 2: You appreciate you, buddy.
- 58:19Speaker 4: You can find me at Twitter at t Kyle's thirty nine,
- 58:21Speaker 4: and you can find We're really you mostly video. You
- 58:23Speaker 4: can find that over at Patriots Press Pass on YouTube,
- 58:26Speaker 4: and every once in a while I'll write something and
- 58:29Speaker 4: that's gonna be over at clnsmedia dot com.
- 58:31Speaker 1: You ask all the right questions, you go about things
- 58:33Speaker 1: the right way. You know what you're talking about. You
- 58:36Speaker 1: are a true ball no er. Everybody uses that phrase
- 58:38Speaker 1: too much sarcastically or seriously nowadays, but you are sincerely
- 58:41Speaker 1: one of the best, one of my favorite people. I'll
- 58:43Speaker 1: see you tomorrow when you host me and we do
- 58:45Speaker 1: some stuff over there on your side of the tracks,
- 58:48Speaker 1: and yeah, well rock enjoy the rest of your night,
- 58:51Speaker 1: have fun, do your thing. I appreciate the Hellia, thank
- 58:53Speaker 1: you for making the time. You're the best, and yeah,
- 58:55Speaker 1: see you tomorrow.
- 58:55Speaker 4: Appreciate you, you buddy, see you soon. And one of
- 58:57Speaker 4: the best audiences out there. Appreciate you you all as well,
- 59:00Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 59:01Speaker 1: Joy and I man one of the best, mister Taylor
- 59:04Speaker 1: Kyle's wanted to send him on his way and not
- 59:08Speaker 1: keep him too long. All right. I wanted to go
- 59:12Speaker 1: back cause we got some good questions. Want to do
- 59:17Speaker 1: some engagement pieces here on the show, as we are
- 59:19Speaker 1: once to do. Didn't do it in the beginning because
- 59:20Speaker 1: again it wanted to be cognizant of Taylor's time, and
- 59:22Speaker 1: even within that, I went ten minutes over that what
- 59:24Speaker 1: I was supposed to do, so I wanted to get
- 59:26Speaker 1: him out. I love this comment from Charles saying, the
- 59:28Speaker 1: Texan scheme is lining up across your man and take
- 59:31Speaker 1: their soul. All jokes aside, like you know what you
- 59:36Speaker 1: are going to get when you play the Texans defense.
- 59:40Speaker 1: Like and it's not to say that they're bland or
- 59:43Speaker 1: vanilla or it's like simple in a negative way, like
- 59:46Speaker 1: you just know they're like what they're gonna do. They're
- 59:51Speaker 1: gonna play some quarters, they're gonna play some Cover three,
- 59:54Speaker 1: they're gonna play some Cover one. And even like with
- 59:57Speaker 1: the quarters stuff they're playing, they're locking the backside and man,
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: like you're gonna have to beat Lassiter in stingly, you're
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: going to have to protect against Anderson and Hunter, and
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: that's the basis. They start right from there, and it's like,
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: good luck, try and beat those corners and try and
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: block those defensive ends. And then they're getting contributions from
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: you know, Rankins and Settle and oh number seventy two
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: on their interior, whose name I can never pronounce, but
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: he's awesome, and I just call him by the number
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: because I don't want to butcher his name. Like he's
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: a fun, rotational dude. And then you've got like Totoe
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: and al Shaire at the second level trying to take
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: dude's heads off. Kylen Bullock, they just let him function
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: in coverage and not have to really worry about tackling
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: too much. Like it's just violence and speed and juice
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: and there sound fundamentally fundamentally and they know who they
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: are and they play to their players and their skill
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: sets and build the scheme from there. They're well coached like,
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: and you know, being well coached doesn't mean you have
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: to be crazy schematically or creatively like. They're just so
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: sound in who they are and it helps to have
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: you know, arguably the best defensive end Tannement football and
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: arguably the best corner Tannement football. Derek Stingley is on
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: any given day the best corner in the NFL, depending
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: on how good Pats or Tam plays that day. And
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: for me, I think Kamari Lassiter is the best CB
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: two in football. I think he's the best run defending
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: corner in all of football. And you can make the
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: case that he's on his way to CB one territory.
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: And then he got Bullock patrolling on the back end,
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: Jalen Peatree being this weird nickel and what he can do.
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: They're playing with their fourth or fifth string like other
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: safety opposite of Bullock and it hasn't mattered. Yeah, it's crazy,
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: Connor says Will Anderson feels like the Texans MVP could
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: be Like, he's just such a monster. I think his
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: season and hundred seasons are being lost because Miles Garrett's
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: a stud at defensive end and having a record breaking
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: year potentially. But yeah, it's crazy. It's just crazy. I
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: wanted to go back to Bob's question because I thought
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: it was really good. Bob says, First off, Bob, thank
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: you for being here. But Bob says, every team has
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: flaws in the AFC playoff window, how would you rank
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: each team based on their laws? Who has the most
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: glaring who is the most able to overcome theirs? Ooh,
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: that is a load of question, but I wanted to
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: talk about it to a degree. I am pulling up.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: I'm gonna go in order because I'm gonna pull up
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: the standings as of right now. Where are we playoffs?
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: All right? Let us so the Broncos are the one
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: seed as of right now. They are eleven and two,
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: just like the Patriots, but they are ahead because they
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: hold the conference tiebreaker with seven wins in the conference
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: versus the Patriots sixth as of right now. So we'll start.
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: I'm kind of it's hard for me to rank each
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: team based on their flaws. Maybe I'll do that as
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: I go through, though, But if we start with the Broncos,
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: their biggest flaw to me is what kind of bo
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: Nicks do you get? Can you push the ball down field?
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: You know, everybody's kind of made it like there's stuff
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: that's there, but he's not taking it. But he can
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: mitigate so much of it because he's insulated in that system.
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: They are able to run the football and he's athletic
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: and he can move like. Their biggest or like most
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: glaring flaw for me is the quarterback spot and by extension,
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: that pass game, which can be kind of feast or famine.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: But they have one of the best defenses of football.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: If not for the Texans, they'd have the best defense
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: in football. They have the reigning defensive Player of the Year.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: They have a nasty front, they have good scheme, they
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: have good coaching. They they run themselves so well as
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: a unit on that side of the ball, individually and schematically.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: But I would says probably the past game and bo
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: Nicks in particular, the Pats are sitting there at two.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: Their biggest, their biggest, their most glaring issue need whatever
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: however you want to label it, is their run game
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: on the offensive side of the ball. It is ugly.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: It just does not look good. They're not good Schematically,
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: they're not good from a metrics standpoint. That's kind of scary,
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: that's worrisome. I do think you need to run the
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: football come playoff time. And then defensively, you know, I
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: don't think they're the most athletic defense, and going up
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: a team against a team who can pass it on
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: them and move them around a bit, I think will
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: be a problem. But with whether and how the conference
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: is shaken out, I don't know how much that's going
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: to come into play. Jacksonville similar to kind of Denver,
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: but more just what Trevor Lawrence you getting? Good Trevor Lawrence,
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: Bad Trevor Lawrence. I think there are some questions with
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: them from like a health standpoint, what they can be
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: overall them, They're just from an inconsistency standpoint, good Trevor
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: bad Trevor. Trevor Lawrence can make two or three throws
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: a game that make your jaw drop and that can
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: only be completed by two or three other quarterbacks in
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: the league. And then he can make some of the
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: worst decisions you've ever seen in your life, and you
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: just don't understand where he's going. From that standpoint, I
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: think Jacoby Myers has done well to stabilize the pass game,
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: and I think he does a lot of the dirty
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: stuff that allows Brian Thomas Junior to just be Brian
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: Thomas junior and lean into what kind of makes him go,
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: which is good for them. Josh there, Josh Allen has
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: been a monster. I think there will be some questions
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: still in the defense, but not as glaring as up
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: down Trevor, because when Trevor Lawrence is bad, he's really bad.
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: But when Trevor Lawrence is good, he's like a top
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: five quarterback in the way. I don't want to, you know,
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: boil it down to that too easily, but that's really
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: what it is. The Steelers their pass game. What can
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: they do with it? We saw it against the Bills.
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: Everything for them is get the ball underneath and get
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: some the act. But it's DK and not much else,
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: and DK super volatile. Aaron Rodgers isn't Aaron Rodgers of old.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: Like I just have a lot of questions about Pittsburgh
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: in general. How good can their defense really be? They
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: look old and slow at times on both sides of
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: the ball. They're again, they're the four seed right now.
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: They're probably to me the worst team that's in the
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: playoffs right now. If the playoffs were to start to day,
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: the Chargers are fifth. For me, it's their health, like
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: can they continue to stay healthy and do they lean
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: too much into the harball style of offense where they
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: just run the ball into oblivion. Also, defensively, they're bad
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: against the run, Like they do not stop the run well.
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: They are a defense that you know, you kind of
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: watch them get get gashed at times. And from a
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: metric standpoint, they're not too bad against the run, but
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: they'll get gashed, they'll get pushed around a little bit.
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: They're inconsistent in coverage. Like defensively, there are a problem
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: at times, although they you know, you wouldn't know that
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: from kind of looking at them, uh from the Philadelphia perspective,
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: But I look at just kind of how they're built
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: offensively and then defensively to a degree kind of how
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: consistent can they be, how can they shore up the
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: run of what do you kind of get from there?
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: The Bills, their biggest issue or most biggest flaw their
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: run defense. It's bad. I think it can one hundred
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: percent hold them back. Will it? We'll see because the
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: teams they are in the playoffs right now. Couldn't necessarily
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: threaten them too much with that unless they play the
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: Colts in the first round. But now without Daniel Jones,
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: that's a huge nightmare. Denver could give them some problems there.
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: Jacksonville could give them some problems there. The Chargers could
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: give them some problems there. We'll see. They're at six,
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: the Texans are at seven. Their offense as a whole,
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: mainly the offensive line. Can they protect CJ. Stroud? Can
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: they get in a good enough protection. Can they do
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: enough quick game pieces to kind of let them flow
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: and do enough offensively? I truly think I mentioned and
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: alluded to it earlier. If the Texans can just score
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: twenty to twenty five points a game, they're my pick
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: in the AFC because their defense matches up against everyone.
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: You they're such a nightmare defensively, not just for the Bills,
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: for anybody. The Texans are my pick to come out
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: of the AFC. I think their offense is starting to
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: turn it a little bit. If they can just score
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: twenty to twenty five points a game, I don't think
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: anyone's beating them. I don't think they're giving up more
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: than fifteen to twenty points per game in any way,
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: like you would have to have a great day against
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: them and put up like twenty or twenty one. So yeah,
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: and that's what the playoff seeding looks like as of
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: right now. The Colts they're at eight. Their biggest thing
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: is quarterback. The Ravens are at nine. Their biggest thing
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: is injuries. They're just not healthy. Metabks out for the year.
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: Lamar is playing, but he's not healthy. Like, their biggest
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: thing is injuries, and I don't think they're gonna get
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: healthy anytime soon. And also their other flaws beating themselves,
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: which they seem to do every year, regardless of personnel
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: or team or opponent. They just find ways to kind
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: of beat themselves. Huh. Okay, that's my answer. I hope
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: that was sufficient. Hope you like it. I hope you
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: liked it. I should say, James says. The newest storybook
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: is the chief somehow make the tournament and we and
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: the Chiefs face off at the Ralph of the AFC title.
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: Dream Big. It's the only free entertainment that's fair. I'm
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: very interested to see what the Bills team does. What
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: this Bills team does, down the stretch. I've said it before,
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: I want them to win the AFC East because I
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: want the street to continue and I don't want anyone
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: else to get it, and I want them to have
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: some more home games in the playoffs to close down
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: the stadium. I wanted them to be the one seed
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: because I wanted the dream of hosting the AFC Championship,
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: winning it and going to the super Bowl, knowing that
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: the last game in this stadium would be an AFC
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: Championship game that sent the Bills to the super Bowl.
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: But logistically and more than that, just be the best
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: version of yourselves come end of December early January. And
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: this game against the Pats is going to be big.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: The game against the Eagles is going to be big.
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: I'm interested to kind of see who they are, what
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: they are, and I think, like so many of us,
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: can they tweak things enough? Can they improve these things enough?
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: Like what continues to happen on defense? Someone said earlier
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: in the chat, like Shaq Thompson has mattered a lot
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: for this defense. He's just so much better for them
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: against the run because of how he plays between the ears,
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: how he sees the game process it. But also his
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: size and frame and skill set and traits such a
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: good piece. I really don't not not trying to jink it,
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: and I'm not gonna get predictions because I'm Archer superstitious
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: for that. You folks should know that. But I really
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: don't fear the Bills playing any team in the playoffs.
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: Like I would rather not play Denver because I believe
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: in Sean Payton and I think they have a great defense,
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: and I don't want to play Houston in any way,
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: shape or form. But other than that, I really like
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: I have no problem playing the Pats. I have no
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: problem playing the Jags, or the Steelers, or the Chargers
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: or the Colts or I still don't want to play
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: the Ravens. But Ravens are Chiefs. Will see how it
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: kind of shakes out. Those are the top ten as
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: of right now. Miami there at eleven, but with the
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: same record as the Ravens and Chiefs. But just get
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: into the dance and be the best version of yourself.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: Don't care, don't care, don't care, don't care. Be the
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: best version of yourself. Go after it, get after it,
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: and see what you get. Like what you can do.
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: The Bills have vulnerabilities the Bills that flaws just like
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: a multitude of AFC teams do. But again, they don't
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: have to play a team likely like Baltimore, who again,
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: even if they do, they're banged up, but like what
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: they do, well, you know what kills the Bills. You're
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: not looking at then of these teams and like, oh,
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: which teams run the ball really well?
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: Here?
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: Jacksonville can run the ball, That's why I mentioned them
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: a bit. Denver can run the ball a little bit.
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: Plus with that Peyton offense kind of getting after you
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: a bit, the Ravens can in theory, Chargers can like,
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: but it's not like, oh my god, they're gonna get
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: shredded by these three teams. You don't want to face them.
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: Are there teams that they would rather face? Sure and absolutely,
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: but there's not really any death sentence opponent for them
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: this year like there have been kind of previously. Joyce
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: is a few years back, the Dolphins played great, and
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: regress what's the difference with this Patriots team? One? For me,
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: I don't think the Dolphins werever as good as their
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: record indicated. They're high was not sustainable based on how
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: they were built offensively, and based on how they were
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: built defensively, and on top of that too, they had
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: a bunch of injuries. And I also think Mike McDaniel
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: is a much better is. I think he's a good
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: offensive mine and a very good play caller and designer.
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: I don't think he's a good head coach, but they've
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: turned it around a bit this year. We'll kind of
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: see what happens. I think the difference between them and
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: the Patriots team is the leadership and kind of stemming
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: from the culture down to as a corney as that
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: may be. Like Rabel has had success in this league.
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: He knows what it takes as a player and as
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: a coach to build a successful team, what good culture
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: looks like, what good coaching, development, drafting, and schematics look like.
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: And Josh McDaniels knows that two on the offensive side
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: of the ball. So I think they have a really
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: good head coach. I think they have a really good
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: offense coordinator. They've got some talent, and they know who
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: they are. I just think that I think the bones
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: and the foundation of this Patriots team is better, starting
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: from the top down. Not to mention, you know, I
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: think Drake May is a better quarterback than tool was.
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: Tua's limitations were seen right from the jump. Mike McDaniels
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: able to kind of lean into him and you know,
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: get him to play on time and kind of take
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: the world by storm. But everybody realized by midyear of
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: that first year, like, okay, just get him off his
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: first read a little bit, try and make him mobile.
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: Go from there, and those are significant hurdles for him
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: to kind of achieve, and kind of easy access ones
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: as a defense to put them their offense into. I
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: don't think that exists as much with mcdaniels's offense and
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: Drake may quarterbacking it. So I think the foundation, the basis,
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: the bones, and then the leadership at the top are
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: much different for this Patriots team versus what the Dolphins
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: were when they were kind of peeking a couple of
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: years ago before things kind of fell down and the
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: bottom fell out a little bit. Kay Morris says, what's
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: your opinion on the Eagle struggles offensively? I'll be honest,
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: I haven't watched a ton of Eagles this year. I
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: think one, you know, the cheams on the offensive line
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: a little bit. Their O line was so good for years,
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: and they have a great coach and Jeff Stoutlin, and
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: they still do have some good players, but they've been
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: banged up there a little bit. I think it's some
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: of the limitations of Hurts, and I think it's some
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: of the play calling this year and just kind of
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: how they operate. I think they each rotate each week.
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: What's the problem. You know, Hurts has his limitations, but
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: he also has his obvious strengths. Teams also kind of
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: know that, and they're not letting him play to those strengths.
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: And then you add injuries up front, you add new
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: play callers seemingly kind of every year, because that offensive
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: coordinator is getting poached and getting moved and you're changing
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: things and you're having that brain drain. And I also
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: think two of times, you know, understandable for frustrations for
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: wide receivers, but there's been times when aj Brown hasn't
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: given one hundred percent and there's disconnects there. I think
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: there's a bunch of little problems all all around the offense,
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: and it's not just you know, one individual blame. I'm
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: excited to dive into their tape more going forward, especially
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: in preparation for the Bills game, but their unit. I
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: haven't watched a ton of this year, but in the
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: limited tape i've watched of them, that's my thought process
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: at this point. Mm. Yeah, comment is, I still don't
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: understand how Philly has paid all those guys. I don't
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: think anyone does. That's why Howie Roseman always gets to like,
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: how does he keep trading for these guys? How do
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: they keep signing these guys? Blah blah blah, and Charles
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: says he had reference to those Miami teams versus this
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: past team.
- 1:14:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: May it looks like a mini Josh. Come on now,
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: nobody was ever looking at to it like that. Yeah,
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: I mean that that's a huge part. Like everybody knew
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: from the jump. I thought too it was a good quarterback,
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: but he has limitations. But McDaniel for Miami knew how
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: to tap into that and what they wanted and got
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: them playing on time. And then they had Hill and
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: Waddle and their speed made a difference and everything, and
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: but they would have injuries and then again to his
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: had his to is what Tua is. It's always been
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: that way. I think McDaniel did a good job getting
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: the best of him. But you know, eventually, if you've
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: got significant limitations or hurdles, teams are gonna find that out,
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: and the book kind of got out quickly on them.
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: And then you can't really change it because TUA can't change.
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: And then if you have injuries, those things all compound.
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: Speaking of things that compound, the Best Pizza in Buffalo,
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: New York for One Pie Pizza and the holiday season
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: and being able to give back, I've talked about it
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: for the past several weeks. One Pie Pizza sponsored the
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: show The Best Pizza in Buffalo, New York. I don't
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: say that because they sponsor the show. They sponsor the
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: show because I think they are the best pizza in
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: all Buffalo in Europe. But right now we have the
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: Toys for Tots drive coming from our friends at One
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: Pie Pizza, and I've talked about it before. If you
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: come in, drop a toy off, every toy get you
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: a ticket. Ticket gets entered into a raffle. So if
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: you bring ten toys, you get ten raffle tickets, so
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: on and so forth. Nine tickets for nine toys, two
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: tickets for two toys, so on and so forth. But
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: you know, bring a new unwrapped toy, drop it in
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: one of their donation boxes. In and of itself, that's awesome.
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: You know, make a kid's Christmas, make a family's Christmas.
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: I talk about it every year. Christmas is one of
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: my favorite holidays. It's probably it is my favorite holiday.
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: I love this time of year, but it's not always
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: great for everyone. So any little bit you can do,
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: and whether you're doing it dropping off toys for tots
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: at One Pie or you're giving somewhere else or doing
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: something any donations generosity paying it for it, you can
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: do come holiday time is just awesome. So if you
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: have it in your budget or in your heart to
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: do so, I think that's absolutely awesome. But if you
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: need some you know, added benefit or incentive on top
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: of it, you know, go to One Pi Pizza. Get
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: yourself some delicious pizza, some delicious food. In general, everything
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: they make is amazing, from the cup and char pepperoni,
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: to the sweet sauce pie, to the homemade blue cheese,
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: to the catering division they have with different macs and
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: cheeses and chicken and rice dishes, salads they make. Everything
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: is great, But go go to One Pie, get yourself
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: some pizza or food or whatever. Bring some toys again,
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: any new unwrapped toy, drop it into a donation box.
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: For every toy you drop off, you get a raffle
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: ticket entered in to win one of several prizes. Their
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: prizes this year are a James Cook autograph jersey, a
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: Dion Dawkins autograph jersey, a two hundred dollars gift card
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: to one Pie, and several thirty dollars gift cards to
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: one Pie Pizza. Get yourself some pizza, treat your taste buds,
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: treat your family, do some good for the community and
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: the city and people in the holiday times, and all
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. Again, I love Christmas. Any positivity
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: or kindness that you can do to pay it forward,
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: to bring it to people in need is awesome. So
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: get yourself with one Pie Pizza, toys for tots, awesome prizes,
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: delicious food, all that kind of stuff. I will be
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: dropping off toys probably next week at some point. I
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: always do a kind of the middle of the month,
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: So maybe I'll see you there if you happen to
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: be there at One Pie Pizza. I'm going to bring
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: up the banner, says tootles, folks, because we're gonna start
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: to wind down and see a bunch of comments coming
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: in in the chat. I want to see where are at? Yeah,
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: this is comments. Supposedly there's a world where the Bills
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: can host the AFC Championship game against the Texans. How
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: nervous are you going to be that day? One thousand
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: percent nervous, super nervous, however you want to verbalize it
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: the most nervous. I I don't want to play the
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: Texans more than anyone in the entire playoffs for the AFC.
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: I don't want to play them. The only teams I
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: would want to play less than them are the Seahawks
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: and the Rams, and both of those teams are in
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: the NFC. I don't want to play the Texans in
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: any way, shape or form. It's absolutely terrifying, absolutely, absolutely terrifying.
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: Game plan on defense versus the Patriots starts with stopping
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: the run. Patriots can't run the ball. Don't let them
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: run the ball like that. It starts there, and that's
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: gonna start there most weeks for this Bill's defense. The
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: Bills are vulnerable against the run. The Pats are not
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: a good running team. You can't let anybody run you.
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: But especially like a team that's good on the ground,
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: obviously it makes things worse. But a team that sucks
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: on the ground and is still finding success, don't let
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: them get ahead of that. So they have to be
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: sounding their gap bits. They have to make tackles. They
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: have to be able to dedicate numbers towards coverage, which
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: they will need. I think, you get up and you press,
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: and you beat the hell out of the Patriots wide receivers.
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: I don't care who's lined up for them, get in
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: their kitchen, beat the hell out of them. Beat up Booty,
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: beat up Hollands, beat up digs. I'm playing press, I
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: am matching, I am re routing. I am just getting
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: physical and beating the hell out of their dudes for
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: however long it takes, and hoping the wheels fall off
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: at some point. You have to maintain rush lane integrity
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: because Drake May is an athlete and can do Drake
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: May things. When you get the opportunity to bring them down,
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: you have to bring them down. Same thing from a
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: tackling standpoint. Overall, make your tackles, bring dudes down, play press,
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: restrict passing windows. You know, you can't just play match
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: in May in the whole time. So mix up your
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: zone coverages, mix them in there. But you know, I
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: don't want a ton of spot drop because they've been
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: carved up with that before. McDaniels offense can do that.
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: Drake May can do that. I'm trying to restrict airspace.
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: I'm attaching dudes. I'm playing press, I'm disrupting timing. I'm
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: also gonna blitz a little bit, corner blitzes, run studs,
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: cross dog stuff. I'm mugging gaps and kind of dropping out.
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: I'm playing games. I'm bringing simulator pressures. Play on the
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: play on your front foot as much as humanly possible.
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: When I say play on the front foot, attack minded.
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: So we're playing press. We're bringing pressure, five and six
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: man pressures. We're gonna play some man, We'll play some match.
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: We're bringing simulated pressures, creepers. We are bringing the fight
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: to them. We're not gonna sit back and play static coverages.
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: Knowing who we are, what we are, and then adjusting
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: from there, take the fight to them. Play on the
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: front foot, come out, punch them in the mouth weekend
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: and week out. That's my game plan. Going forward, but
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: especially even more so with this dial turned up more
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: against the Pats with who they have from a personnel
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: standpoint and how they operate. Good times. Oh yeah, good comment.
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: Got to take advantage of mill Williams of Campbell being out,
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: very true. Attack their tackles, get some pass rush, make
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: attack their protection rules. Hopefully you get some good individual performances.
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: Greg Russau, Ideally it'd be great if he steps up
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: and gets a bunch of pressures in a couple of sacks.
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: Hap him to be a game changer for you, But yeah, individually,
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: it's harder predicting somatic stuff. We'll see what happens regardless
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: of the result. We'll be talking here on the show
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: next week about that game, a little bit about the
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: go forward. I hope you folks enjoyed this episode. Not
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: much of a matchup preview a little bit, but this
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: high level discussion on who the bills are, what the
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: bills are. Appreciate you tuning in for the different time.
