- 0:26Well, hello, everyone, and welcome to the 10penny files.
- 0:30I my name is Dr.
- 0:30Sherry Tenpenny, and I am your host.
- 0:33The Ten Penny Files is a daily conversation that is meant to inspire and educate, not just to entertain.
- 0:39I come prepared and then we let the discussion unfold naturally with people worth hearing on topics worthy of exploring.
- 0:47If it matters to your body, your freedom, or your future, we talk about it here.
- 0:51Each day I talk to authors, documentary filmmakers, and independent thinkers whose work challenges mainstream messaging.
- 0:58We cover a wide range of topics from government politics and history to astronomy, pets, and travel to food, farming and fitness, and vaccines, health and health policy.
- 1:11We also have a weekly interview with a pastor or an author that writes about biblical principles.
- 1:17The goal of this show is to introduce you to topics that you've never heard of before or topics you always wish you had time to explore and you didn't know where to start.
- 1:25Let our authors show you the way.
- 1:28Join me each day, every day, Monday through Friday at 3 p.m.
- 1:31Eastern to hear from voices who have often been ignored, silenced, or censored, but truly have something important to say.
- 1:38Before we begin today's episode, I want to invite you to become a 10 penny prime member.
- 1:43Prime members have an exclusive monthly white paper that I write, a recorded presentation, and access to a monthly Ask the Expert Masterclass that is just really good.
- 1:54So find out more about becoming a prime member, go to Prime Membership.dr10pity.com, and hopefully you will join and support our show.
- 2:02Now, with that, let's get started.
- 2:05Today's conversation is with award-winning educator, researcher, and entrepreneur, Dr.
- 2:11Patrick Porter.
- 2:12He is an entrepreneur, the co-inventor of the Brain Tap, a light and sound device designed to activate the brain's neuroplasticity.
- 2:22Today's conversation is about his upcoming book, The Brain Fitness Blueprint, integrating ancient wisdom and modern technologies for peak performance, a 30-day action plan that supercharges your brain by restoring cognitive clarity and achieving lasting vitality, which, man, oh man, we all need a lot of that.
- 2:43So, Dr.
- 2:44Porter, thank you so much for joining us here in the Ten Penny Files.
- 2:47It's so nice to see you in Pearson because I hear your voice every morning.
- 2:52Okay.
- 2:52Yeah, it's great to be here, Dr.
- 2:54Sherry.
- 2:54Thank you.
- 2:55Yeah, you know, I do love the brain tap.
- 2:57I use it every morning.
- 2:58I first thing in the morning before I even get out of bed.
- 3:01Um, I know from experience that using it consistently is really the key to success.
- 3:06And I know that you'll have a lot more to say about that.
- 3:09What in sport inspired you to create brain tap and how is the biotechnology evolved over time since you started it?
- 3:16Yeah, well, it started actually with just a cassette recorder in my dad's meditation classes.
- 3:22The the the nun and the father came over and told my dad, hey, I can help you to stop drinking, you just have to come to this what this seminar.
- 3:28So we went to the seminar, it was called the Silva method.
- 3:31And in the back of the room, they're playing a sound.
- 3:33Well, nowadays we would call it an isochronic tone, but at the time they called the silva sound.
- 3:38And what it would do is it would sink everyone's brainwaves to alpha so they could they could relax more fully.
- 3:43Well, that night my dad stopped drinking and never went back.
- 3:47And he thought, if this is good enough for me, it's good enough for my nine children.
- 3:50So I went through school not knowing this is what I was going to do with my life.
- 3:53I was going to follow my dad's footprint at that time.
- 3:56I I was just, I went to school for electronics, and then I got into working with my dad with the Silva seminars, started liking it.
- 4:03So he said he sent me off to a seminar in Phoenix.
- 4:06And from there, I went to Vegas and I met a group called Light and Sound Research.
- 4:11And um, they allowed me at 24 years old to become one of their researchers.
- 4:15And I didn't have a job because I just graduated, and so I didn't have much going on.
- 4:20It became a really fun time in my life because I we started introducing LED lights.
- 4:25And this was something that was never used before because they weren't commercially available.
- 4:29So we started looking at what they call GSR or given skin response, which means the stress in the body.
- 4:34And how could we reduce that stress?
- 4:36And we did it first of all for pain.
- 4:39And this was before opioids became so popular.
- 4:42And we actually have a study in Brazil where we beat out opioids in a pain study at four weeks.
- 4:47Everyone was supposed to get off their pain medicine, and our group was the only group that got off the pain medicine.
- 4:51The others, six months later now, we're counting, we're gonna track it for a year.
- 4:55None of them have gotten off it because their brain became dependent upon the painkiller instead of the brain's opioid receptors, which you can trigger and train.
- 5:03So that there's methodology to do that.
- 5:05But then it moved on, and I started a franchise company.
- 5:08And in that in that company, because the technology was so foreign.
- 5:12Imagine this arriving on the scene in 1986.
- 5:14There were no cell phones, there was no downloads, there was no CDs even.
- 5:18And but in 89, we got the best new gadget of the year.
- 5:22We thought this was going to take us to the top.
- 5:24What happened was nobody could sell it.
- 5:26So we had all this product, nothing to do with it, because nobody knew everybody was under stress then, but today it's just went through the roof.
- 5:33So I started to uh train doctors and opened up my own clinic, and then we franchised that clinic, and I sold it in 2002.
- 5:41At the time, we had the world's largest self-help franchise, 108 locations.
- 5:45And I thought I had made it to Easy Street again.
- 5:48So I was just hanging out in California, and my wife and I said, you know, nobody's advancing the technology.
- 5:53I didn't sell the technology.
- 5:54I actually had a deal with the new company.
- 5:57So they went out of business in 2012.
- 6:00So in 2000 uh in 2000 uh, I mean, I'm sorry, in 2008.
- 6:05In 2012, we resurrected the technology as brain tap that we have today.
- 6:10And we're just really we're so many different ways the brains involved now that we didn't know about back then.
- 6:16We we thought we were just working on stress reduction through uh biofeedback using the body's systems, the respiration, heart rate, and things of that nature.
- 6:25Now with the technology advancing like it is, we can actually measure the actual codes your body is putting out.
- 6:31Most people don't realize your mitochondria is MIT proved this.
- 6:34It's not, it's I don't want any to believe me.
- 6:36This is science we're talking about here.
- 6:38And everything I say today is backed by science.
- 6:40What they said at MIT was that our mitochondria absorbs energy not only from our sun, called the circadian rhythm.
- 6:46That's why we make the most melatonin at 10 o'clock at night.
- 6:49We clean our liver at 11, our temperature drops two degrees at 2 p.m., our temperature increases two degrees at 2 a.m.
- 6:55It's all tuned to the light of the sun.
- 6:57But we also pull energy from everywhere, even from the center of the galaxies, they're saying.
- 7:02But then what happens is the body then absorbs that light energy and the mitochondria, which absorbs light, transmits it out to the body as codes.
- 7:10And of course, toxins are one of the biggest reasons.
- 7:12And you talked about like uh what they're doing to us with our foods and other things like that, you know, on your show.
- 7:18You you've taught them all about that.
- 7:19The problem is that we have a smoldering fire under a bunch of debris, and we need to detox.
- 7:25So part of what we wanted to do is how can we bring energy into the cells bypassing the what's called the digestive system or the electron transport chain.
- 7:34And we do that through light energy.
- 7:36We can go into that deeper later if you want, but the the reality is that we are light beings.
- 7:40When you think in science of the electron transport chain, everything you eat, everything you think even, anything you're around is vibrating and teeming with energy.
- 7:50We now know that the body absorbs that energy and translates it into energy it uses.
- 7:55That's why you can be in a sick environment and your body goes becomes unhealthy, like with mold or something like that.
- 8:00Or if you're around out in the sun and you're grounding, you get more energy.
- 8:05Our body is designed to become in sync with its environment, not external from it.
- 8:10And it's not a pill that's going to cure this thing.
- 8:12It's a lifestyle that's gonna get it's gonna take all these problems we have out there in the world from that are happening, you know, after being jabbed and things like that that people took part in.
- 8:24Their body has to get that out as soon as possible.
- 8:26And you do that everywhere you have a blood vessel.
- 8:29Let me just explain this to people why we use lights because they probably are wondering that light, your body, your eyes have the most mitochondria of any other area of the body.
- 8:38So so in it's bundled in there.
- 8:40And your eyes actually they can they can track this now.
- 8:43It's in for it's in their infrared spectrum, but your eyes actually transmit light out, just like a dolphin would with sonar, and that light bounces back and it appears that we have a reality here, but our brain actually is taking that information.
- 8:55It's also using sound to do that.
- 8:57All of our senses are creating this internal representation that we call our world.
- 9:02And so, how do we get the internal mechanism of the brain to be in sync with the outer environment?
- 9:08We can go by a lake or a stream or an ocean, and our body will resonate at 10 hertz frequency.
- 9:13The earth has done it for us.
- 9:14If we walk into the woods and we do a um a mountain bath or a forest bath, the our body will actually change its physiology.
- 9:22If we go to a mountaintop, we'll start creating more of the theta brain wave in which all these brain waves trigger neurotransmitters.
- 9:30So when somebody's in a chaotic environment or one that has mold or toxins, the reason they can't think is the body can't become coherent.
- 9:38Meaning that all the different parts of the brain, there's not one part of the brain that we have this executive function in our frontal lobes, but it doesn't work without the primal functions of the amygdala, which can overdrive the system and cause us to become more animal like.
- 9:52So these all have to be balanced in our subconscious, which runs 95% of the show, it does it without us knowing about it.
- 10:00But if we don't interrupt its pattern, it can start developing.
- 10:03I tell people it's not what you do occasionally that matters, it's what you do daily that matters.
- 10:08And so when you interrupt that pattern daily by doing these kind of methods, whether it's breath work, relaxation, walking out in the sun, you know, um getting out into the forest, doing these things.
- 10:20If we don't do that at least once a day, the body becomes addicted really to those internal environments where the air is 200 times worse than the air outside, where we have artificial light, so our cells don't know how to act.
- 10:32And all these problems that people are experiencing are really because we've one of the biggest reasons I should say it's not the only reason.
- 10:38We've separated ourselves from nature.
- 10:40We're supposed, we're part of nature.
- 10:42We're in nature.
- 10:43We're actually in a field in nature, and our NIH has proven that.
- 10:47So I always like people to go to the NIH website and type in biofield, and they they say right on their website in 1994 that every person has a field of energy that extends three feet.
- 10:57Now we know it extends about 16 feet, but back then they said three feet around us, and all illness starts in that field.
- 11:04So why are people taking pills?
- 11:06That's downstream.
- 11:07We need to our internal mechanism, our brain and our body are designed to heal, but we need the right fields.
- 11:13So we we feed the body light because the hemoglobin absorbs light, brings it into the cell that's about to die, starts, it starts the Krebs cycle again, which means it brings that cell back to life, but it literally brings the cell back to its original program.
- 11:27So that means that it has the energy now to be like a new cell that has all the instruction sets.
- 11:34So, like when we did the dementia study with women 5565, everyone was taken off the dementia scale in as little as six weeks.
- 11:41And that study is now in a bigger study at Seminole College, where every person in the study, when we got them up to seven to eight percent um, we have we all have brain, a brain score.
- 11:53And when we're born, it's at about 18.1 volts, and our brain is operating at a high capacity.
- 11:59That's the smartest we're gonna be.
- 12:01Because that brain is operating in full overload.
- 12:03And we we we're in a foreign world, we don't know what to do, we're hearing things we don't know about, we're absorbing a world.
- 12:09But then by the time they're three or four years old, they become little humans and they they speak and talk and walk and they have personalities and all these things.
- 12:15That started from not anything because it started with the genetics of mom and dad and their mom and dad, and the you know, MIT said 64 generations back, actually go into the program.
- 12:26I think they're gonna go back to the very beginning of time at some point because they keep finding more and more of this kind of behavior in the cells that it's not, it's not acting out of this life, it's acting out of the lives of our parents and their parents and their parents.
- 12:40So that genetic inheritance is is coming with us, not just in DNA, that literally changes the DNA.
- 12:46So, but when you give light, that's the electron transport chain and energy to the body, the energy needs to heal itself.
- 12:53All the stress we're under, everything, we can't pray to God that all the stress leaves.
- 12:58I don't think that's realistic.
- 13:00But what we can do is pray for the capacity to handle it, and our brain can handle it, but our brain is not designed for the life we're living today.
- 13:07Our brain was designed for the Serengeti, you know, where nobody works past two o'clock.
- 13:11We get to sit in the shade with the lions and the zebras, and we take it easy, and at night we all gather around the communal fire and and chit chat and pass on the tribal wisdom to the youngsters, and we have this nice day, and of course it's stressful in the morning because we have to get up and go find food or you know, go hunt something.
- 13:28But the reality is that they had a much easier life as far as stress on the system.
- 13:34So that's that's the main reason we did, you know, the first one was called MC MC Square because one of my heroes is uh Albert Einstein.
- 13:42So we named it, they named the device after him.
- 13:45You know, in your book, the brain fitness blueprint, you in your other books also, you talk about brainwave entrainment.
- 13:53What does that actually mean?
- 13:56So imagine I have a tuning fork and it's set to 528 frequency, and I bang it on a table.
- 14:03If I bang it here, our cells are gonna resonate to that.
- 14:06Now to prove that I could take another 528 tuning fork and set it here, it would start vibrating.
- 14:11It's not even been touched.
- 14:12Well, every cell is doing that with every conversation with every person you meet.
- 14:18You know, there are people you meet in the room gets a little darker, you know, that that family member that shows up to the Christmas party, and you you're hoping they they lost them the uh, but they're family, so you got to invite them in.
- 14:28Then the room gets a little darker, you know.
- 14:30You want to be the one that brings the room up.
- 14:32That's why when you're around like-minded people, you start talking and you say, Wow, where did the time fly?
- 14:37We're just having such a great conversation.
- 14:39It's because you were in sync with them.
- 14:41And there's actually a science out there called frequency following response.
- 14:45Every cell generates and act occupies this space.
- 14:49On online, you can go to YouTube synchronization, and a guy takes uh it it's uh metronome synchronizations.
- 14:55He starts 200 metronomes at different times.
- 14:58Within three minutes, all metronomes are synced.
- 15:00They can do it with grandfather clocks too, and scientists still to this day do not know why that happens.
- 15:05But everything in the universe is sinking.
- 15:09So when we feel stressed, we feel anxious, we feel, you know, not ourselves, it's because we're not in sync with either our internal states or our external states.
- 15:17And when things are going our way, you know, we have all this energy flowing, that's when we know we're doing the right thing.
- 15:23Internally, we can feel it with our with our synchronization of the environment.
- 15:28You know, the the headsets that go along with the program.
- 15:31I'm gonna just do a little show and tell here for people that can see this is the headset.
- 15:36And when you put it on and you turn it on and you actually sink to your phone when you're listening to it, there's a there's like a shield.
- 15:43We can see kind of hard to see with my with my green screen.
- 15:47But the shield comes down, and on the shield, there's blue flashing lights.
- 15:51And sometimes that when you're listening to the programs, you hear one voice, sometimes you hear voices in different places, and then you've got these blue flashing lights.
- 16:02Explain to us the technology behind how all those things work together with the headset.
- 16:07Sure.
- 16:08All of these sciences have been proven in nature.
- 16:10We actually published a paper on it because they're all validated.
- 16:13What I did is I put together systems that were, we kind of started the light frequency one, but everything else was already out there in the public domain.
- 16:21And what what we have the lights in the ears is because more blood throws flows through your ears than any other region of the body.
- 16:27In fact, all the blood in your body flows through both the ears every three to four minutes.
- 16:31So if I want to get light energy into the body, it's one of the best ways to do it.
- 16:35And the eyes, your eyes are closed, but we're working with cranial nerve too.
- 16:39So what we're doing is we're waking up that side of the brain.
- 16:42And it's a really cool thing if you have somebody hooked up to EEG and they can see the brain waves, and there's one called the mind mirror, which shows right and left hemisphere.
- 16:49And when that light goes on the left eye, the right brain lights up and vice versa.
- 16:54After about four minutes, the brain stops lighting up and just stays lit.
- 16:59So it stays awake.
- 17:00Because under stress, I can show you 100% of the time if people haven't trained their brain, one side of the brain shuts down.
- 17:06And then so they're only occupied, they're only using half their capacity under stress when you need all of it, but they haven't trained the brain to do that.
- 17:14Now, the with within this light and sound, the light is flashing at a very specific, we call them earth frequencies because the earth, it's not these frequencies like are coming from cell towers and things like that that are in the in the 15, 19,000 Hertz, those are those actually hurt your cells because your cells don't know what they are.
- 17:31If we took the spectrum of light that we occupy and I took it across the screen, we wouldn't even be a hair's breadth of what the frequencies are in our known universe.
- 17:39So we're occupying a very small part of the visible universe.
- 17:43There's a bigger universe out there.
- 17:45And our body's been used to having those kind of experiences since the dawn of man.
- 17:51You know, so now we introduce these other frequencies.
- 17:53So what we have to do is we have to get the body back into its sink, back into in these brain cycles, we should cycle through them every night at least four to seven times to get good sleep.
- 18:03If you have a sleep ring or something like that, you see your it goes dips in and out, that deep sleep should be at a at least an hour, and your REM sleep should be two hours, and then you're gonna have maximum sleep because each time your body drops into deep delta sleep, and we have techniques within the brain tap system that do this that put you into deep delta as quickly as possible.
- 18:23In the morning, we want to wake you up, so we have what we call SMR, which is to wake the brain up.
- 18:28So the light's flashing at these different speeds, and then the brain, like those synchronizing metronomes, the brain starts sinking, pulsing the electro rhythms, and I tell people it's kind of like going out in the summer and you hear one cicada, then you hear two cicadas, then you hear three, then you hear four, then all of a sudden you know, the the cicadas are going crazy, and they'll cycle through that for three to four minutes, and then it'll be calm for a while.
- 18:49Then one gets a little fly up its rear, whatever, starts chirping again, and it all starts again, you know.
- 18:56And this is because this is the way nature works.
- 18:58So we use light and we mimic it with sound, something called binaural beats.
- 19:03If I want to train you to go to alpha, I can tell you to go to alpha.
- 19:07And you know, in Silva, that's what they did.
- 19:08They would train, but they had a secret weapon.
- 19:10They had a sound in the back of the room that put out a code really to the body that says this is alpha, this is alpha.
- 19:17And then the body responded, okay, I hear you, I hear you.
- 19:20Because the body loves alpha.
- 19:22It's it's neutral for the brain.
- 19:24Most people don't get into it because they're on high stress all day long.
- 19:26And then what we found with light and sound, we can drop you into theta.
- 19:30Theta is super important because theta produces something called GABA.
- 19:34It's there's 54 different neurotransmitters, and each of these neurotransmitters are triggered to different brainwave activity.
- 19:39So the brain tells the gut what to make based on the environment you're in.
- 19:43So if you're in a high state of beta uh spider flight stress and fear, your body creates stress and fear hormones and creates all the neurotransmitters of the dub scarcity in and what we see in the world today and in disarray.
- 19:56So then we have to get by that little window.
- 19:59Most people have never experienced.
- 20:00Experience theta except going in and out of sleep.
- 20:03But when you drop into Delta, most people, like we did a study in in um Australia with coal miners, because some people had concerns over the blue light.
- 20:12We've had we've done 72 peer-reviewed journals, and every time we've improved sleep by at least 25%.
- 20:18So it doesn't do it resets the circadian rhythm, and it's only eight LEDs and your eyes are closed.
- 20:23It doesn't give out enough light energy to disrupt the sleep patterns.
- 20:27But with the group, we measured them for two weeks before we started the study because we needed a baseline on their sleep.
- 20:32The average coal miner was in bed 10 hours a night, but only got one minute of deep sleep and never got two minutes of REM sleep, which meant they weren't sleeping, they were just in bed.
- 20:42So you know, I'm doing a book with Dr.
- 20:44Amon Sleep Doctor.
- 20:46Uh it's, I mean, not a book, but I'm doing a series for Brain Tap called Sleep Like a Champion because he knows with brain health, sleep is key to improving brain health.
- 20:54If you don't sleep well, we all have that morning where you say, Oh, I woke up on the wrong side of the bed.
- 20:58Well, it was really your brain wings weren't synchronized for wake up.
- 21:01You can train your brain to wake up.
- 21:03You know, and that's what you're doing every morning is you're training your brain.
- 21:06You'll you'll forget one day to have the brain tap with you or whatever, and you'll find your you'll wake up.
- 21:10Your brain has now learned a process, and it will keep doing it for you as long as you acknowledge it, and because it you're your subconscious is a very good servant, but not a good master.
- 21:20So we need to keep training it because it falls back into the cycles of our daily life.
- 21:24And unfortunately, with 24-hour news cycles and the fearmongers out there trying to manipulate our thoughts and showing things on uh to us on the computer that just because we talked about them with somebody we're interested.
- 21:35You know, all these things are happening to us, we have to have the energy to say no.
- 21:39So many people just roll over and say yes to everything.
- 21:42You know, you equate in your book, you equate brain fitness to physical fitness, and you talk a lot about moving and activity.
- 21:50How does intentional mental training uh lead to long-term health overall by training your brain?
- 21:57Yeah.
- 21:58Well, the the incredible part is that we've actually proven that when you have more of that SMR brain wave that you're training in the morning, that you get better balance skills than actually doing physical exercise.
- 22:09The muscles don't move without your brain, the ligaments don't move, the bones don't move, nothing happens till the brain says so.
- 22:15So if the information coming down the spine to the limbs isn't 100%, you're going to have some imbalance issues.
- 22:22So what we've shown is, and these are it's a neurological training, but it's really a physiological training because when you can exercise along with it, when you exercise, you create something called BDNF, brain-derived neurotropic factors.
- 22:33I tell people, just think about it as miracle growth for the brain.
- 22:37If you want your so when you work out, you've created a lot of uh acetycholine, which is uh in the bandwidth of alpha.
- 22:45That actually helps at the mind the brain to produce more muscle at the bone junction, which means your bones are going to stay stronger because that attachment to the bone is there.
- 22:54As we age that attachment, just like a rubber band being used too much, those ligaments get loose.
- 22:59But if we can keep them tight, then the bone structure stays in place, and we don't have to worry about osteoporosis.
- 23:05So in fact, they've shown that food isn't what's the problem with osteoporosis, it's the lack of lifting heavy weights.
- 23:10And I'm not saying women should go out there and lift heavy weights right now, but you they should start doing something with resistant training.
- 23:16But but brain tap has been shown to do that as well.
- 23:18So it's all about how do we get the brain to focus.
- 23:22Now, give you an idea, what happened?
- 23:24We we did a study with autistic children, and 90% of them started speaking when they got 23% or more up alpha activity because speech isn't learned from a speech pathologist.
- 23:34We already, it's inherent, we know how to talk.
- 23:37But if you don't have that brain weave, it's kind of like being in an office and they have a Wi-Fi, they didn't give you the code.
- 23:42You know, if you get in get on that Wi-Fi and get out to the internet, their brain knows if they can get into that frequency, they can start talking.
- 23:49So most of us just change our frequency and we're able to communicate.
- 23:52Without alpha, we can't put all this together because language is a very difficult thing.
- 23:56Think about how long it took them to get AI to do this, and it's still kind of corny, you know, because it's a difficult thing, just like face recognition.
- 24:03Your brain has to take two different pictures and splice it together on the fly.
- 24:08And neuroscience says we only render about 10% of our known reality.
- 24:12The rest we make up.
- 24:14So when we're making it up, that's why when things are happening too fast or we're stressed, we make bad decisions because we're not getting all the information.
- 24:21Our brain isn't because we're moving so fast and every everyone's in a hurry.
- 24:26Wow.
- 24:27There is so much here to unpack.
- 24:28I wish this I wish this conversation was going to be three hours.
- 24:32You're just a brain trust of all this information.
- 24:34But right now, this is a good place for us to take a break.
- 24:37Hold that thought.

- 32:32Well, welcome back, everyone.
- 32:33Today our special guest is Dr.
- 32:35Patrick Porter.
- 32:36Dr.
- 32:37Patrick Porter has a PhD in psychology of Christian counseling from Louisiana Baptist University.
- 32:43He went on to become an award-winning author, educator, consultant, and entrepreneur.
- 32:48He has been on the cutting edge of brainwave entrainment technology for more than 30 years.
- 32:55He has dedicated his life to studying neuropsychology with the goal of bettering a billion brains.
- 33:02He's the co-developer of the brain tap headset, which uses light and sound.
- 33:07Uh, while Dr.
- 33:08Porter narrates a 15 to 20 minute proprietary guided visualization session.
- 33:14There are more than 2,000 topics to pick from in 12 languages.
- 33:19So this is a lifetime tool that people can use for the rest of their lives to stop smoking, to manage weight, to stop pain, and enjoy superb sleep.
- 33:29In fact, he has been awarded the health app of the year for the and the sleep app of the year.
- 33:34He received a lifetime achievement award in 2020 from the International Association of Functional Neurology and Rehabilitation.
- 33:42He's sold more than three million books and recordings worldwide, all designed to empower humanity.
- 33:50What a great resume you have, Dr.
- 33:52Porter.
- 33:53I mean, I'm telling you, what you have done for humanity in terms of health, wellness, fitness, and dealing with our brains is just so incredibly important.
- 34:02Tell us for a minute, because you do have those 2,000 different uh of audio recordings to listen to.
- 34:09How is the how are the brain tap sessions differ from different from triple uh traditional meditation or mindfulness meditations?
- 34:18Yeah.
- 34:19Well, what we found in the lab is that you can do those meditations and you get some relief while you're doing them, but then when you're done doing them, your brain goes right back to its stress state.
- 34:29It's not enough time to train the brain.
- 34:31Well we've shown, we showed in a uh study in Brazil where we had people just listening to the algorithm, no words, so there's no placebo, and we found out that when they listen to an alpha session, that high alpha brain wave remained for over 24 hours.
- 34:46So that's why if you can, and that's important because we're balancing these brain waves, and there's not one brain wave that's not necessary in the right context.
- 34:53The problem is most people get stuck like a gear shifter, they have five gears, but they get stuck in one or two of those gears and they don't get outside of them.
- 35:00And it's really behavioral flexibility.
- 35:02So the biggest difference is that we have science that shows that something's happening.
- 35:06And I I put it out there to people all the time.
- 35:08It shows I they go, I do my own meditation, let me scan.
- 35:12We have a piece of technology called neurocheck where we can measure nine parameters of the nervous system.
- 35:16I've only met two people in 30,000 brains that weren't stressing their brain out during meditation.
- 35:22Because there's something called the default mode network, the Dalai Lama calls it the monkey mind.
- 35:27So when you think about that, what happens is they close their eyes and they start thinking about everything they should have been thinking about when their eyes were open.
- 35:34And so they they're not able to count down the mind.
- 35:36What we've shown in our science is that we dampen the default mode network.
- 35:41That's the amygdala, that part that goes crazy under fight or flight.
- 35:45We need to soften that brain so that we start to use more of the executive function.
- 35:49We've actually shown a 30% blood flow improvement to the frontal lobe.
- 35:53And people aren't focusing on their third eye or anything like that.
- 35:56It's just a it's a physiological effect of having energy in the brain.
- 36:00The more energy you have, the more you're able to think.
- 36:02If you're not able to think, the brain's going to rob you of your critical factors because it wants to keep you alive.
- 36:09And there's a whole different mindset if you're just trying to stay alive and somebody's trying to thrive.
- 36:13That's why we say for peak performance.
- 36:14You know, imagine uh doc that you're you wake up every morning and you look down the track and you're running the hundred yard dash and you go, hey man, I didn't sign up for the hundred-yard dash.
- 36:23What am I doing?
- 36:24Well, we all signed up for the human race.
- 36:27Right?
- 36:27It's not the human race as we it's a race.
- 36:29We're all when we hit the ground, it's running.
- 36:31You got you got podcasts to do, you got books to write, you've got articles to read, you got all these things going on.
- 36:37The brain gets an onslaught of things, and most people never train for it.
- 36:42You need to train for it, just like an athlete would.
- 36:44You know, when you if you get put in the hundred yard dash, the quarter mile, run the mile, whatever it is, you say, I train for this because like Deepak Chopra says, 97% of what's going to happen to you tomorrow, you know about today.
- 36:56So what are you pretending not to know?
- 36:58So I always tell people start training today for the human race.
- 37:02You know, most people leave it to their default.
- 37:05That's that that default mode network I'm talking about.
- 37:07And they're wondering why they're running around like a chicken with their head cut off because the brain hasn't focused.
- 37:11You'll notice on the end of almost every one of my sessions.
- 37:14We do what's called a timeline.
- 37:16We we have you think about what's going to happen tomorrow, the day before, the day after, a week ago, in a month.
- 37:21So you can start living the life the in the purpose that you've given yourself and anything that doesn't fit into that bandwidth, your brain's going to tell you, hey, that person doesn't involve this.
- 37:30This is taking too much of my time.
- 37:32You're going to start paring down what you're doing during the day and stay laser focused on your health and and whatever you want to do is with your business because now you're focusing on your timeline, not on everybody else's.
- 37:42You know, that that time in the morning should be spent planning your life.
- 37:46And at night, we the most of the sessions have a gratitude module, which means we go through the day and we start sorting out.
- 37:52Everyone's going to have bad things happen to them.
- 37:54But how do you respond to them?
- 37:55And if we can respond with forgiveness that everyone's doing the best they can, you know, they don't have the same information you have, and just say, hey, by the grace of God, I'm not them.
- 38:04You know, I forgive you.
- 38:06I'm going to move on.
- 38:07Then you liberate yourself because the more you want to get even with somebody.
- 38:11There's a saying, he who angers you conquers you.
- 38:13And when I was in martial arts, the one thing when I was sparring or in competition, they said, if you can get that person angry, you're going to win.
- 38:21Because they don't have all their faculties.
- 38:22So a lot of times people are running around just perpetually upset and angry, and they don't know who to be angry about because the news told them they're supposed to be angry, so they're they're angry.
- 38:31And the reality is that this is the best time to be alive if you take care of yourself.
- 38:36You know, you can't blame God and you can't blame your your genetics if you're 55 years old and can't get off the couch.
- 38:43You know, you got to say, hey, it's my responsibility.
- 38:46In fact, one of my short books I'm writing right now is getting old isn't for sissies.
- 38:50Uh the main reason was when I sold my one company, I I it was a weight loss company.
- 38:56I was always physically fit, really good shape.
- 38:58Well, I let myself get out of shape because I thought, well, I'm not doing weight loss anymore.
- 39:02I'm just gonna eat whatever.
- 39:02And my genetics don't, my my family's from Iowa.
- 39:05Everything's big there.
- 39:06You know, so in the in the process.
- 39:09So I had to go do, I had to do the work.
- 39:11I couldn't just say, God, make me thin, give me muscles.
- 39:15Gotta say, I'll I've already given you the design, do the work in the body will be built.
- 39:20You know, this is a gift from God, how we take care of it.
- 39:23And most people, you know, they put in terrible gas into their Ferrari and their maserati.
- 39:29You know, the this body has been given to us by the grace of God.
- 39:32And if we if we treat it as such, you know, what kind of materials would we put into it?
- 39:37We put the best.
- 39:38You know, so we need to be thinking about that.
- 39:40When when I first got my brain tap system, and I and I got put it on my phone and I got the headset.
- 39:46The one of the first modules that I went through was about better sleep.
- 39:50And I, you know, there's a technique that you teach in these modules about seeing a slide come across and doing this countdown.
- 39:58I've learned how to do that.
- 40:00Now and by gratefully, I never have issues falling asleep.
- 40:05If I get up and go to the bathroom and come back to bed, I'm I'm back to sleep literally within 30 seconds.
- 40:11It's like no time at all.
- 40:12And I want to so I want to encourage the listeners, if you are having issues with sleep, this you know, this technology can really make a difference with sleep, along with a bunch of other things.
- 40:24And I want to read this uh a little uh just a couple sentences out of your new book.
- 40:29It should be evident that nothing with a brain is permanent.
- 40:33Thanks to the brain's incredible neuroplasticity, even the worst habits and the most severe traumas can be managed, unlearned, and even reversed.
- 40:44That is so exciting.
- 40:46Because even as a physician, you know, we're trained that once you have a brain injury, your brain is just damaged and there's nothing else you can do.
- 40:52But that is absolutely not true.
- 40:55How does brain tap, how did the brain tap sessions accomplish all those things?
- 41:00Well, the main thing that it does is it relaxes the nervous system, so the nervous system can do what it does.
- 41:04The brain is designed to heal.
- 41:06Now, if you if you don't have the, you know, everywhere there's a lymph vessel.
- 41:10I mean, everywhere there's a blood vessel, there's a lymph vessel.
- 41:13We we you learned that in medical school.
- 41:14But if you were in medical school before 2015, they told you the lymph system stopped at the neck.
- 41:21That's physiologically impossible.
- 41:23The problem was a doctor in Denmark in 2015 during a sleep study found out that during level four sleep, a new system of the body called the glial lymphatic system operates.
- 41:33This is the detox system.
- 41:35So there's only four reasons, and I'm going to talk about how brain tap helps in them.
- 41:39There's four reasons you have brain dysfunction.
- 41:41Number one is your thoughts.
- 41:42We can change those thoughts.
- 41:44Um, it's also been found that 60 to 70% of the thoughts you have today you had six months ago.
- 41:50Are they serving you?
- 41:51Are they helping you to accomplish your goals?
- 41:53Because your thoughts are ancestors to action.
- 41:55So if you don't take the action in brain waves, you can think of in emotional states, you can think of as the engine that drives behavior.
- 42:03So your emotional state makes a difference.
- 42:05So there's thoughts, there's trauma.
- 42:07Like you said, when people have trauma, what brain tap does, it brings light energy to it.
- 42:11There's no arguing that red light therapy uh does healing to the body.
- 42:16Now we're doing really low dose.
- 42:18You can get there's more, like if you came to my lab here in New Bern, I have a bed that has 12,500 lights, and we've seen some incredible healings like hearts.
- 42:27The one woman came in and she said, My doctor said this was a waste of time, but he can't do surgery, I'm in too bad of health.
- 42:32Six months later, she lost 80 pounds, and she went back in.
- 42:35She said, Doc, I'm feeling really good now.
- 42:37And they did a scope on her heart.
- 42:39They said, you know, that that valve that was not doing so well, it's healed.
- 42:43The other one isn't even doesn't even need surgery anymore.
- 42:45And she said, he goes, What are you doing?
- 42:47She says, Well, I'm going to this place and I'm using red light therapy.
- 42:50And he said, Well, it's not that, but keep doing it.
- 42:53You know, it's it's like it's like, okay, this is the way people think.
- 42:56Uh there's a saying, man uh spirit is simple, but man is complex.
- 43:01Everybody wants to make it way too complex.
- 43:03So what brain tap does is it helps with the healing process because it builds supply lines to the brain.
- 43:10It builds every time when you do a therapy when that light gets in there, it creates vasodilation, blood flow and circulation, nitric oxide release.
- 43:19You're building the neural networks, but you're also building the supply line to keep those neural networks alive.
- 43:25Because as we age, there's something called neuropruning that happens.
- 43:28And if we keep doing the same thing, our brain just keeps pruning, keeps pruning, keeps pruning until the next thing you know, all dad does is come home, sit in the chair, turn on the TV and fall asleep.
- 43:37Because they don't have any more power, they don't have more energy and they don't have any more flexibility in their brain, which is called neuroplasticity.
- 43:44Now, we have, like I said, thoughts, traumas, and we have toxins.
- 43:48The same thing that happens with blood flow and energy to the body with nitric oxide release and all of that that happens in the brain, the supply line gets the toxins out of the brain.
- 43:57We did a study with veterans, and this one veteran had a walnut shaped uh adhesion in the middle of his brain, and it was coagulated blood from a trauma he's he served when he was in service.
- 44:08After six months, that that it looked like a golf ball inside his head, it was shrunk by over 40%.
- 44:16Now we didn't do another one.
- 44:17And that was done with spec scan, what Dr.
- 44:19Eamon uses.
- 44:20So I mean, when you think about it's gonna it's gonna help to heal because that's what the body does.
- 44:25The body needs energy to heal.
- 44:27So once you provide the energy, the body will do the healing.
- 44:30And then we have thoughts, we have thoughts, trauma, toxins.
- 44:34And the fourth one that I started saying is technology.
- 44:37We have to, we have to limit our technology use, and especially before bed, especially two hours before bed.
- 44:44Uh, and if you're not, if you're sitting closer than six foot from your television, you need to be back further than that because there's a field coming off that television, this computer screen that I'm at, I got a grounding mat that I'm standing on, and I've got a grounding pad under my keyboard because it's throwing off energy too.
- 44:59And it doesn't matter if it's blue light or red light or whatever light it is, it's really red, green, and blue.
- 45:04That energy is being absorbed into my system.
- 45:06If I don't ground it, and this is one of the things that when I work with uh Clint Oprah, who wrote the book Earthing, uh, we showed him we we take a bolt oh meter with us to sh to conferences.
- 45:17Most people are running around with three bolts of energy in their system.
- 45:20It should be zero.
- 45:21You should be grounding with the earth.
- 45:23So what we showed him is use one of these grounding mats, you're zero.
- 45:27So just every once in a while, that that takes care of the unconscious stress that your environment might be causing.
- 45:32I'm in an office now, it's been treated and for everything electromagnetic and stress and all that, but I still like the grounding because it's visible.
- 45:40So what we know is Dan DeBon, who wrote the book Radiation Nation, I'm on their board because anybody who has EMF poisoning, they use brain tap as the first line of defense.
- 45:50When your brain's balanced, your body naturally grounds.
- 45:54It can be what they call a floating ground.
- 45:56So the the brain basically creates a field around you that field I was talking about that protects you from the radiations that's out there because you're creating your own internal environment, as they say you're creating your own weather.
- 46:09So technology, I think is great.
- 46:11I don't think anybody's gonna get rid of their cell phones anytime soon or their big screen televisions or their computers, but we have to know that there we have to shield ourselves against it until there's money to be made in it, and then it'll be part of everything.
- 46:24But right now, it's easier just put out a cheap screen and you know, get it in front of people.
- 46:29I mean, when you can buy a 55-inch television over Christmas for like 49 dollars at Walmart, there's a problem.
- 46:34Somebody wants you watching that television, you know, so to get to it's an easy way to get people to pay to be programmed, you know.
- 46:41So how is uh brain tap?
- 46:44How is the device classified from a regulatory standpoint?
- 46:48And why is that important?
- 46:49Yeah, it's in it's a it's called a wellness device.
- 46:52It doesn't have to have any FDA approval.
- 46:54It doesn't do it, it basically uses the natural rhythms of the body.
- 46:58It's been found in all of our research to have no harm on the body.
- 47:01We do have a disclaimer that if somebody has epilepsy that even though it's never triggered epilepsy, it's like the Nintendo games and the uh all the video games all have that in some TV shows, say if you can't stand flashing lights, don't look at that.
- 47:15But the reality is that we've had doctors use it to help people with epilepsy, but I wouldn't use it without a doctor being present because you might be the first person.
- 47:24But the we are going, we are coming out with one that will be medically classified uh because we have so many studies now that we can say this does this because we have the studies, but we have to go through FDA clearance.
- 47:36And we're gonna go through as a breakthrough device for the dementia program because we're just getting too many phenomenal results and and uh we are going to have a device that actually reads the EEG at the same time that the doctors can use.
- 47:48And we just we just I'm going to India in March again because we have a study done by one of the world's foremost authorities on neurofeedback, and she said she never thought in 30 years of doing neurofeedback, she'd find something that would replace what she does.
- 48:01We wanted to show her that brain tap could be an assist to neurofeedback.
- 48:05What she showed was that what they could do in 15 sessions with neurofeedback, if they add brain tap, they can do it in 15 sessions.
- 48:11And then she did the same study, but without the neural feedback and got the same result.
- 48:16And so in India, at Niman's Hospital, which is the world's largest psychological hospital, they see 200 new patients every day, but they can only see with two neurofeedback machines, which cost about 30,000, they can only see 16 of them.
- 48:28So now they have a room with brain tap in it, they can see 20 at a time and they could see everybody.
- 48:33So this is what I mean by helping, you know, we need to we need techno, we have a technology problem, but we need something scalable like brain tap that can be taken all over the world and used by mom and dad and medical personnel as well, but it's something you could have at your own home.
- 48:49Absolutely.
- 48:50You know, you co-authored this new book with Ruchika Shikri, I think is how you say she's the founding partner of Wisdom Ventures and former head of well-being and learning at Google.
- 49:02Why did you decide to collaborate with her on this book?
- 49:05Well, I've been for so many years, I've just been working with doctors.
- 49:08You know, we have 3,000 clinics using it.
- 49:10So I've been spending all my time helping doctors because I I grew the practice and I had my franchise company, and so I was I was helping them to uh add brain fitness to their offices.
- 49:20And what we found with the internet is that we can go out to the general public.
- 49:24You know, we can just go direct to the consumer.
- 49:26And I wanted to get to more corporations.
- 49:28We've proven with our study with Google and Microsoft, and this is one of the reasons she came over.
- 49:33We showed that if they do a 20 minute break in the middle of the day, they actually get 26% more work done that day.
- 49:38Oh, and and we also showed in the study that even though we didn't do one sleep program with them, they only did the two o'clock in the afternoon that their sleep improved 43%, their happiness and score uh score, the well-being score, they call it improved by 53%.
- 49:53And we've we've actually, Julia Arne, who did it, she's a peak performance coach.
- 49:57She actually uh did a TED talk about it.
- 50:00It's it's very interesting.
- 50:01And we took her her skills and we showed a 19% improvement if they used her skills with ours.
- 50:07So you know, if you do something physically, it's going to help you subconsciously too, you know, to help you to get some good work skills and things like that that maximize your time and become more available, I say, to peak performance moments because we all want peak performance moments, whether it's with our family, our friends or coworkers, you know, we want to feel that we're doing our best.
- 50:27Um, your book has a 30-day program in it at the end.
- 50:30And I really like your book because I've read the whole thing and how it's structured with so much explanation about how this technology works and about food and about fitness and about sleep and all the and movement and all of these things.
- 50:44And they're kind of it kind of summarizes into the 30, the 30-day um uh program at the end of the end of the book, and there's lots of room for notes and things like that.
- 50:53In fact, before we started the show here today, I said, man, this would make a great three rings a three-ring binder spiral type of book because of the things that you want to write in there.
- 51:04Uh, why is this uh this fitness program for your brain more important today and more revel relevant now than ever?
- 51:11Well, I think as I said earlier, our brain was not designed for this environment.
- 51:15I mean, when I grew up, there weren't even computers.
- 51:17So, you know, that we had uh when typewriter was really big, you know, and when they came out with you know, you erasing what you mistyped with a piece of white paper, you know, that that had the ink on it.
- 51:29I mean, those were the big deals in my lifetime.
- 51:31So we're we're faced with too much, and our foods are full of toxins, our our news is full of toxins, you know, all these things happening.
- 51:39So we need a way to reset.
- 51:41We need to what what we're finding is we're living longer.
- 51:44You know, the the baby boomers, they don't want to, nobody wants to be a burden on their family, and they don't have to be.
- 51:51We've done brain studies with women in their 90s and we improve their brain function over 15%.
- 51:56So your brain can be healed at any age, but the you gotta start now.
- 52:00The sooner you start the better.
- 52:02You know, when when I get my brain measured, it's the brain of a 31-year-old, and I'm 64.
- 52:06And I plan on having a great brain till I'm no longer necessary here, you know, and the big guy calls me home.
- 52:11But we don't know when that day is.
- 52:13So I think that we have to look at we can train our physical body, and a lot of people will become more positive and more productive, of course, when their body, because they're getting a BD and F.
- 52:22But if they then add in a 10 minute or 20 minute brain tap session after they do their workout, I I wrote a whole book of a whole article about this in Muscle and Fitness.
- 52:32You actually make more muscle by doing that because your your body is now not doing work, it's using it's using the stores that are in the bloodstream to build the muscles.
- 52:42So now your body is actually doing what it was designed to do.
- 52:45Because we were, you know, our body wasn't designed to have refrigerators and food at the call, you know, any time we want something or a circle K or 7 Eleven on every corner, you know, grocery stores.
- 52:56I mean, we used to go through feast and famine, you know, and our body is used to that.
- 52:59And if we don't do something to train the brain through physical fitness to eat up that sugar that's in the bloodstream, then it causes things like insulin resistance and all sorts of other problems in the body.
- 53:11Most people do overeat.
- 53:12They and they have about a year's worth of energy stored on their body in adipose tissue, but they don't know how to access it because the stress response.
- 53:19You know, I I might have told you that before.
- 53:21When you have a stress response, you actually deploy 25 grams of sugar into the bloodstream that's there for to keep you in fight or flight, so you can get away from that tiger, but there's no tiger, you're just sitting at your desk or looking at your cell phone.
- 53:33Now the insulin pump has to kick on the fat storage hormone.
- 53:36So it locks the sugar in the bloodstream away.
- 53:38Now when you go to do work, there's there's no more sugar in the muscles and there's no sugar in the bloodstream because the stress removed it.
- 53:44Now you have to go get a candy bar or whatever because you you think you need energy.
- 53:48The problem is it started with the thought.
- 53:50And that's why uh I was in People Magazine in 2006 where we we sent them over a thousand people that had taken half their weight off and kept it off for more than five years.
- 53:59And I we could have sent them more.
- 54:01It was the it was the norm because it's not what you eat that makes you fat.
- 54:04It's what's eating you.
- 54:05And as long as you eat moderately, you can get away with eating some pretty bad foods, you know.
- 54:10But I think supplementation is important.
- 54:12That's why we talked about it in the book, you know, what supplements, but you know, I sometimes probably overdo the supplements because I get them sent to me all the time.
- 54:19People want me to review them and see how they work.
- 54:21And I most of them I end up giving to the team because I can't take that many supplements, you know.
- 54:26But they want me to, you know, talk about them.
- 54:29And there's there's a lot of great supplements out there, but there's two that everybody needs to be concerned with.
- 54:33One is B3, niacin.
- 54:35Niacin cleans out the arteries.
- 54:37When most people get their blood tests, that's only 23% of the circulating blood.
- 54:41The rest is in the capillaries and arteries.
- 54:44And to clean that out, we need something like B3.
- 54:46That's that niacin plush people get.
- 54:48And if you do it, just do it really slowly at first.
- 54:50It's a very inexpensive supplement.
- 54:52That's why nobody sells it.
- 54:53They can't make any money off it.
- 54:54You can buy it at you can buy a month's supply for less than $19, I think, on Amazon.
- 54:59And then you need at least vitamin C, you know, and then a multivitamin, you know, that has uh I do liquid colloidal vitamins and minerals, but you need we're not getting it from the food we're eating.
- 55:11But and then the other little tip for the people since we talked about dementia, just replace your salad dressing with olive oil.
- 55:18Take a teaspoon of olive oil, put it on and use Italian seasoning and salt and pepper, and they've proven that if you have one teaspoon of olive oil a day, you reduced your dementia by 40%.
- 55:29And that salad dressing, if you look at it, it's all sugar.
- 55:32And sugar is a neurotoxin, so it's damaging the brain.
- 55:35So those are a couple quick tips that people can take away and get their brain functioning better.
- 55:39And they're easy besides doing the morning uh breath work, you can do some some breathing exercises, just relax.
- 55:46If you don't have brain tap, you know, you've got to find a way to regulate that nervous system.
- 55:51Wow.
- 55:52And the other thing besides the sugar in those salad dressings is the seed oils, the crappy soybean oil and canola oil and all those things.
- 55:59Well, Patrick, we've got about a minute and a half left on our show here today together.
- 56:04What was the what is the final message you'd like to leave our audience with here today?
- 56:08The final message is your brain was designed to heal, and you're far greater than you think you are.
- 56:13We just need to activate that brain.
- 56:15You don't need less stress, you need greater capacity because life's not gonna get easier.
- 56:20It's gonna get more difficult unless you train for that race, that human race.
- 56:25Well, and where can they find your book?
- 56:27And you know, you've been so generous with us that you're gonna give the listeners here that have listened to this today that they can get a hundred dollar discount on any of the but of the pan of the of the power bundles and the brain tap headset.
