- 0:00Welcome back to Storytime with Lucky Podcast. Today we're going to read the Rock Family Band.
- 0:08These are the Rocks. Here we are in their hall.
- 0:13That's them in those pictures hung up on the wall.
- 0:17They all share love that Sam can't understand. He doesn't quite fit in the Rock Family Band.
- 0:24Dad plays guitar with a fabulous flair He ties a black band,
- 0:31around his spiky hair Red spiky hair, sorry,
- 0:36Pops rocks the mic in his big platform boots He clearly isn't a dad who wears suits,
- 0:44Liv plays the drums and she won't miss a beat She never stops tapping her fingers or her feet.
- 0:53Bo plays the keyboard and writes all the hits They always wear her outfits with feathery bits,
- 1:01Nala Rock dances and plays the tambourine Her hair's sometimes purple but right
- 1:06now it's green Ziggy's the poodle and she just howls along,
- 1:12And barks to the beat of the Rock family song That leaves the youngest and the odd one out Sam,
- 1:22His taste is more subtle, less noisy, less glam.
- 1:26He's not into rock, much preferring the toot and gentlest of whistles he makes with his flute.
- 1:36It's Saturday morning on Samson's bed. A classical suite fills the dreams in his head.
- 1:42Then out of the blue comes a rather loud bang, his revue rocked by a clash and a clang.
- 1:51Well, I call him a stunt, sweet.
- 1:56Afternoon comes and for Sam, things get worse. He can't find a piece that he needs to rehearse.
- 2:03Then he picks up his flute and suddenly crash. The whole house vibrates with a thunderous thrash.
- 2:11On Sunday, the rocks leave their house for the day. Sam brings his flute and finds him where to play.
- 2:17But nowhere is quiet and Sam gets no rest, as all around the park is the Rock Family Fest.
- 2:25It's Monday, and the day of Sam's retuckle He knows the hush in the hall would
- 2:32be vittle Oh, why, wonder Sam?
- 2:36Why is my family so wild?
- 2:41He summons them all to learn how to be mild,
- 2:45They sit on the sofa and just about fit It's a tight squeeze,
- 2:50though, Sam has sermon it he points at the clock saying just give me three minutes
- 2:55sat still can you do that for me,
- 2:59the minute hand ticks and first things are cool the dad gets a riffical twitch
- 3:05in his arm now the hand shakes and pops shakes and pops utters a roll,
- 3:12and glam rock,
- 3:15Rings out through the rock house once. I've had it, shouts Sam.
- 3:21It's not fair, can you see?
- 3:24You've all got your rock band, but what about me? You're loud and brash and,
- 3:30flamboyant and strange.
- 3:32I wish you were different. I wish you'd all change.
- 3:38Slamming the door as he storms off the school, Sam feels a bit guilty for losing his call.
- 3:48When everyone's there at the concert tonight, he'll tell them he's sorry and
- 3:51he'll make things alright.
- 3:55Later, Sam stands on the stage in the hall. The audience waits as Sam looks at them all.
- 4:03He feels himself squished by the force of their stairs and worst of all,
- 4:07Sam can see six empty chairs.
- 4:11His stomach feels heavy. It sinks to the floor when suddenly figures appear at the door.
- 4:20But never before has Sam seen him so neat. Super love, respect,
- 4:26restraint, and disreeped.
- 4:30Awkwardly quiet, the rocks shuffle in. Liz smells a rather uncomfortable grin.
- 4:36Siggy walks with her tail hanging low and all of a sudden,
- 4:43And all of them sit nice and still in a row.
- 4:48It's freaky to see them so tame and uptight. It's time to begin,
- 4:54but things don't feel quite right.
- 4:56Sam puckers his lips in a trembling pout and lifts his flute to them, but nothing comes out.
- 5:03Sam is breathing his bottle, his fingers all freeze.
- 5:09He looks at his family and sees their unease.
- 5:14He can't play a note, knowing deep in his soul, this isn't the way that the rock family roll.
- 5:24The nana gets up, shouting, Don't worry, Sam.
- 5:28Perhaps what you need is some help from your fam. Why are you saying fam, not family?
- 5:35And so, in a flash, awkwardness drops. The rocks rocket out.
- 5:42They look at the top of the pops Sam's dad and his Nana The whole glam rock
- 5:50gang Leap onto the stage with an almighty bang You got this,
- 5:55Dad We'll support you, let's go,
- 5:58Let's hear it from Sam Rock The star of the show,
- 6:03Dad jams with him pops But Nana busts out her moves Um,
- 6:11Liv keeps the rhythm and Bo plays the grooves.
- 6:16And though Ziggy's howling is ever so cute, the headline performer is Sam on his flute.
- 6:27The audience loves it. And they mosh and they roar.
- 6:34They help Sam to see what he couldn't before. with his wonderful family who
- 6:40all at once paused for Sam to play solo to rounds of applause.
- 6:48And Pops says to Sam, in his sequins and pleasure, We're family,
- 6:54Sam, so we all stick together.
- 6:56Be who you are and we'll all hold your hand.
- 7:01For that's why it means to be part of a band. Sam tells his family he'll do
- 7:07the same thing He'll love them whatever.
- 7:11Tune they sang They might love their feathers and platforms and glitz But they
- 7:18all love Sam and Sam loves them to bits,
- 7:23These are the rocks, here we are in their home That's them in the picture hung up on the wall,
- 7:30Together they make one hom-homnius jam.
- 7:36Dad, Ziggy, Boat, Nana, Liv Pops, and Sam. The end, and thank you for listening.
