- 0:02A listener production.
- 0:04Welcome to the Motorsport Brief.
- 0:06Today's is all about a Speedway special at the Supercars season finale.
- 0:12G'day everyone, Rusty here.
- 0:13Welcome to another ep of the Shortcast.
- 0:16Four-time Bathurst winner Greg Murphy joined us on the most recent one, the Grig & Grig Show Volume 4, I think it is now.
- 0:23He'll be in Adelaide for the 25th edition of the Velo Adelaide 500, the title decider of supercars.
- 0:30He was there for the very first one.
- 0:33good chat that short cast you can find it in the library so is the most recent feature ep with josh bucken from a game of roulette that got him to the next race meeting to making the most of chad's phone calls as he climbed the ladder on the way to the tcr title driving some weapons for road and cars at world time attack and much more even if you don't know josh you'll like that
- 0:55A quick plug for another shorty that is definitely worth a listen with Bruno Senna.
- 1:01His frank assessment of his own F1 chapter, growing up around his legendary uncle and a story that he hasn't really shared before there, plus his work now with McLaren that keeps the Senna name tied to the iconic mark and what he thinks of Oscar Piastri and Daniel Ricciardo's brutal exit from Formula One recently.
- 1:21I recorded these intros in the car on the way to the Bathurst International.
- 1:25Before I took off, though, I caught up with James McFadden, who's back home having waved the Aussie flag very impressively in sprint car racing in the United States.
- 1:35It's a new page in his career, but with some unfinished business.
- 1:39And he will be there as the 500 gets ready for an anniversary show that is like the motorsport equivalent of a meal deal, really.
- 1:47Great music acts, Supercross, Supercross.
- 1:50and speedway he's a friend of the show and it is great to get him back on enjoy the chat
- 1:58Hello, mate.
- 1:58Welcome back to the garage.
- 2:00Welcome home, really.
- 2:02The American adventure has come to an end.
- 2:06How did you arrive at that decision?
- 2:08How do you feel about it now?
- 2:09And what does that kind of all mean for the road ahead?
- 2:11Yeah, thanks.
- 2:12It's actually really nice to be home in a house.
- 2:16So we bought a house in May and hadn't obviously been in it until August, hadn't even seen it.
- 2:24Maverick was kind of at the age where
- 2:27He started going to kindy.
- 2:30The life started to change a little bit, move on from traveling up and down the road doing 30,000 miles a year.
- 2:39We just got to the point where I feel like I was just going to keep...
- 2:47going if I didn't pull it out of gear now.
- 2:49Um, uh, so that kind of was, was the main decision.
- 2:52It's, it's not a decision to leave America full time, uh, like full on never go back.
- 2:59It's just the decision to just, you know, slow the racing down, slow the 80 races down to maybe 20 or, um, 30 or 40 or see how much I like weaker.
- 3:11Um,
- 3:12Yeah, but it was a tough decision, mate.
- 3:14It's something you put your whole life into from 16 years old.
- 3:18You dream about racing in America and you make it to the point where we did.
- 3:22And I feel like I'm at the best in my career, sort of figured out how to run the tracks, how to run a series, you know, of that magnitude with that length of time.
- 3:34And
- 3:35And yeah, it was tough to sort of get to that point and be like, all right, this is it.
- 3:40But at the end of the day, family is a bigger picture and I can still race a few races in Australia and America and, you know, have a good time doing it.
- 3:50that high limit end of season dinner or banquet was, you know, a bit emotional for you.
- 3:56Were you surprised at your reaction in that moment?
- 4:00Yeah.
- 4:00If you talk to anyone that kind of hangs around me, I'm not a very emotional person, but like I said, I think it was just a whole year's worth of buildup of feelings.
- 4:13You know, am I doing the right decision?
- 4:15You know, am I making the right choices?
- 4:17Am I...
- 4:18am I leaving at the right time?
- 4:20Am I kind of going out when I shouldn't be?
- 4:22And I think it all just hit me at once.
- 4:24You know, after probably my last Outlaw race at Williams Grove, I was kind of like, man, that could be my last Outlaw race.
- 4:32I was a little bit emotional, not a ridiculous amount like I was at the dinner.
- 4:37And then obviously the last High Limit race, I was a little emotional then.
- 4:41And, yeah, it's kind of, like I said, I think when you put your heart and soul into everything, something, you know,
- 4:49And he kind of...
- 4:50Like I said, it's not the end, but you call it quits on something that you've worked so hard for to get to it.
- 4:55It does get pretty emotional for sure.
- 4:58You alluded to it there a moment ago, right?
- 5:00Top of your game, kind of peak of your powers, right?
- 5:03What was the reaction on the US side of the pond there?
- 5:07Because most people listening from the sprint car community would acutely be aware of how loved you are there.
- 5:14And for those that maybe aren't, that gives us a window into how well accepted you've been there.
- 5:18So what's the reaction been like?
- 5:20Oh, it's been, it's actually been pretty fantastic, to be honest with you.
- 5:25So many nice comments.
- 5:27So many, I'm not a big social media guy, I don't look at it a lot.
- 5:31But, you know, some of the things that people have said have been pretty nice.
- 5:35And, you know, I've tried to.
- 5:37leave a good legacy over there and, you know, I've always tried to race fair and hard and, you know, I crash into people, it is what it is and say what I want to say at times, but I feel like, you know, I've tried to be me the whole time I was there.
- 5:50So, yeah, I'm glad that, I'm glad that it got to, you know, my career got to the point it did.
- 5:57I'm glad that I achieved the things I did and I'm happy that I left a pretty good mark over there.
- 6:02It was,
- 6:03Yeah, it was nice to have a beer with a few of the boys after the dinner and just chill out and hear some of the things that those guys said.
- 6:12So, yeah, honoured to have got the opportunity to do it and honestly just pretty humbled by the whole experience.
- 6:22Awesome, mate.
- 6:22You more than made your mark.
- 6:25I want to pick up on something that you just said there a moment ago, right?
- 6:27It sounds to me like there might be a little window to go back for, I don't know, let's call it a campaign of a month or thereabouts.
- 6:35Is there an opportunity to do that?
- 6:37How will you stitch that together?
- 6:39What does that look like in terms of piecing together a program like that and so on?
- 6:44Yeah, I've actually had a few good phone calls in the last couple of months.
- 6:47So there's opportunity to go back, do a smaller schedule.
- 6:54uh the way that high limit outlaws work right now it's it's actually pretty cool like i can go to the the west coast in california and run 20 shows in in six weeks so uh it kind of works out race for good money and um you know that high limit just announced they're racing in vegas in march through a little california swing there too so there's there's opportunity to fly backwards and forwards and um spend more time at home uh like i said i'm
- 7:20I'm willing to maybe go for two, three months depending on the organization, the people working on it, the cars.
- 7:29I'm not just going to do it to go race cars anymore.
- 7:32I'm going to do it to go and win and be in the right situation.
- 7:35So, yeah, the opportunity is there.
- 7:38The doors are opening and excited to kind of see what it all brings, to be honest.
- 7:44Yeah.
- 7:45Your love of family, J-Mac, has been very evident in any of the appearances that you've made on Rusty's Garage.
- 7:51And you've said there a minute ago about, you know, Mav and schooling and what have you.
- 7:56Did you guys contemplate maybe putting down roots there in America and perhaps sending him to school in, I don't know, North Carolina or something like that?
- 8:04No, not once, honestly.
- 8:06Wow.
- 8:06Not once.
- 8:08Home's home to me.
- 8:11Yeah, not –
- 8:13After we came back last year, we sent Mav to kindy for a few weeks, and I saw sort of how much he kind of missed out on a little bit.
- 8:23He missed out on the interaction with kids, and he's got five cousins here and two sides of grandparents.
- 8:32Yeah, so I think it'd be a little unfair on him to do that.
- 8:35But honestly, it was never something that, you know, Zoe and I even talked about over there.
- 8:40We sort of thought, you know, a two-, three-, four-year sort of deal and that'd be enough.
- 8:48And that was the end of four years right there.
- 8:50And, you know, I'm on the fence about, you know,
- 8:56could have water shoulders you know I think I could go better next year and I could do it but at what point do you just get to the point you're like man I'm I'm 40 now I'm like I'm not 40 but I'm I'm 40 you know in five years time and I still haven't won that championship or uh I still think I can win that crown jewel like when do you pull it out of gear when's enough enough and and the opportunity to race in Australia and and you know smaller schedules in America is you know have come up and I can still race 50 times a year and
- 9:26and enjoy my racing.
- 9:30You know, if you talk to any supercar driver or anything like that, imagine telling them they're going to do 50 races a year and that's not a lot of racing.
- 9:36So, yeah, I think there's more to life than going around in circles and I'm going to start to enjoy racing.
- 9:42different things like under the beach and things like that.
- 9:45You joked in a short cast, I think we did, about the shitter in the bus and how there were moments of kind of realisation for you.
- 9:55That sort of on-the-road life does take its toll, doesn't it?
- 9:59Yeah, it does.
- 10:01You know, my own is 45 foot, so it's big enough.
- 10:04But, you know, not having family on the road, so if we just throw in, I just want to go for dinner with our Maverick, it was about impossible.
- 10:12things like that that you kind of take for granted when you're in a house or the other night I actually cooked like a proper meal with roasts and vegetables what you cooked lovely vegetables and used about every dish and turned the water on for as long as I needed it and not have to you know smoke out the bus and smell gonna roast for three hours but um yeah
- 10:33The road life was unbelievable.
- 10:35It was nothing short of fantastic.
- 10:37The things we got to see and the family time we spent with each other, you know, I blew a turbo halfway up the Colorado Ranges and had to fix it on the side of the road and things like that that are going to be memories forever.
- 10:50But I think we were just at that stage where, yeah, it was enough going up and down the road.
- 10:56Great perspective, mate.
- 10:57And as you say, win or lose there in some of those moments you've described, they're just beautiful life experiences.
- 11:06Can I come to the fact that you're going to keep steering, which I love.
- 11:09That's the most important thing to come out of this, that the American chapter in a full-time sense might be stopping, but you'll still keep at it.
- 11:16And the thing that I reckon is important there is that you're still incredibly strong behind the wheel.
- 11:22And you look at someone, there's many names that we could draw from the pot here, right?
- 11:26But if you look at Steve Kinzer, for example, they raced well beyond what your current age is, didn't they?
- 11:33So it's great that you can keep going around.
- 11:35Yeah, absolutely.
- 11:36I'm not old.
- 11:37No.
- 11:38For sure, you know, I'm 35 and I still think I have, you know, five or six really good years left in me before I'm not going to bounce it off the fence as good as some of these young blokes like Jock and Lockie are, but...
- 11:50Yeah, I see, you know, when you're this age, you kind of start to second guess, you know, some of the decisions, is it worth counting the fence to get that pass or I'll just run second tonight and he can do that.
- 12:03And when I feel it's right, I'll do it.
- 12:06So, yeah, I think there's a longevity in sprint car racing for sure.
- 12:10I just didn't want it to be my only thing that I had, you know, my only source of income and,
- 12:19get it to the point that I didn't enjoy racing as much anymore.
- 12:23And I felt like America started to get that way.
- 12:26It got to the point it was a job and it was purely a job.
- 12:30You lost the wow factor that a sprint car gives you.
- 12:36There was nights I'm like, man, I'd just rather not even be at races tonight.
- 12:39And I think if you ever get to that point, it's time to
- 12:43to change up what you're doing and mix it up.
- 12:45And then, you know, being able to have the opportunity now in Australia to go and race a few more races.
- 12:50And then, like I said, America, go over there on my terms and race the tracks I want to race and, you know, teams or whatever that I want to be at.
- 13:00you know, it's going to change my dynamic and it's going to make me happier in the car.
- 13:04And I see, you know, as well as anyone, the more confident and happy you are in the race car, the better you go.
- 13:09So, um, yeah, let's see what that plan works out like.
- 13:13It might be a great plan.
- 13:15It might not be.
- 13:15Who knows?
- 13:15Yeah.
- 13:16Respect, mate.
- 13:17Great that you recognised that and acted on it.
- 13:20I want to come to Adelaide in a moment and in between then reflect on a couple of highs and lows in America.
- 13:26But an immediate question, of course, that springs to mind, are you and Brad Sweet okay?
- 13:31I mean, there are a couple of brutal wrecks this year.
- 13:34I mean, what is he now from a statistics standpoint?
- 13:38I mean, five-time Outlaws champ, won the High Limit Series this year.
- 13:42He's part owner there and so on.
- 13:44But
- 13:45I mean, the wrecks were brutal, mate, weren't they?
- 13:47Was it twice this year, I think?
- 13:49Yeah, and they weren't little.
- 13:51Yeah.
- 13:52Yeah, they were big ones.
- 13:53I think Brad and I actually had a really good conversation about this at the dinner after a few beverages, and you'd start free-flowing a little more.
- 14:04And Brad and I raced very similar.
- 14:06I think we both attack a corner.
- 14:09a lot different to a majority of the field.
- 14:12And I think that's why you see us getting into each other like we did this year.
- 14:16We raced each other a lot.
- 14:17And I think we point a car very straight and loaded to the center really hard.
- 14:24And then we kind of figure out what we need to do from the center off.
- 14:26And then, you know, and that might just happen to be there a few times that,
- 14:31that he got his car loaded and it just then shoots me off the corner really hard.
- 14:36So, yeah, I think it's a product of just hard racing.
- 14:42That high limit series was next level, mate.
- 14:44That just, you know, the level of competition was the hardest that I've ever been a part of.
- 14:49Wow.
- 14:51The sheer brutalness of, you know, how hard you had to drive a car every night.
- 14:58You know, I see having a guy like Kyle Larson in the field, he elevates, so he's got nothing to lose, right?
- 15:04He just gets in the car and rips as hard as he can, and if he crashes or...
- 15:07drives off the track or spin out, which he very rarely does, you know, he's like, all right, I'll go to my real job now in a NASCAR.
- 15:14You know, so he makes you race at a different level.
- 15:18And then you've got a guy like Corey Day, who's now on seat contractor to NASCAR and stuff that, that race is the same.
- 15:23And a lot of those guys were non, um,
- 15:27non-series, regular races.
- 15:29So they hadn't raced in a World of Outlaws series for 80 races.
- 15:33So they were just happy to go out and win a race.
- 15:35So it just made the racing extremely intense every night, whether you were 18th or for the lead.
- 15:42So, yeah, I think it was a product of the racing.
- 15:44And, yeah, I just know, I just told Brad that we'll have to meet and curse and see what happens.
- 15:52He's in my backyard.
- 15:53Awesome.
- 15:54Awesome.
- 15:55Broadly speaking, on the American chapter, let's call it so far, the biggest win or the moment that really sticks in your mind, the one that you're perhaps proudest of?
- 16:07Ah, man.
- 16:08I think different races mean different things at different times for different reasons.
- 16:14I don't see any one race I've ever won in my career sticks out more than anything else.
- 16:18You know, I think I talked about that in one of your podcasts.
- 16:20Like, I won a local race in Perth in the Cricket Motorsport car, and that was the last race that Shane Cricket ever got to watch.
- 16:28So, like, at the time, that wasn't a race that meant anything at all, but it means a bunch now.
- 16:35So, to me, I think my first squad of Outlaw win was huge.
- 16:40Winning the Jason Johnson Memorial, he was a really close friend to me.
- 16:44That was, you know, that was pretty special.
- 16:46And then, you know, Toyota's first Outlaw win or Dennis Ross' 100 Outlaw win for the team, you know, those things.
- 16:54And then, you know, my...
- 16:57this year in Douglas County, you know, my whole family was there.
- 17:00Zoe's whole family was there.
- 17:01My best friend from our Springs was there.
- 17:05You know, so we kind of stand in victory lane with 20 people.
- 17:07That was, you know, it was kind of like I'd want to race at home, but on a, you know, international level.
- 17:12So, yeah, I would think there's, there's nothing that kind of all mean different things at different times.
- 17:18So there's not one race that I'm like, man, you know, that's the one, but there's races that,
- 17:24were going to be the ones that I've let slip that I can still name off pretty easily.
- 17:32I love that there's a depth to these stories in what it means to you.
- 17:36Let's go the other way here then.
- 17:37What about the lows?
- 17:39What's the toughest one and how did you bounce from it?
- 17:44For me, definitely 100% in my whole race career was that tyre doping scandal that we had with our team where our team got busted for...
- 17:55doping tires, allegedly, and big allegedly.
- 18:00Allegedly.
- 18:01You know, we went through all the process of trying to get out of it.
- 18:05You know, we did lie detector tests and stuff, which the outlaws made us do at the time, and, you know, had experts look at our findings and things like that, and we just, there was no way...
- 18:15basically you just had to cop it on the chin and move to the next race.
- 18:18But we, we went on X race straight after that.
- 18:21So that was enough to give them a big sort of middle finger and, and get on with business.
- 18:25But yeah, that was definitely a low for us as a team, as present driver for myself, that was, that was pretty tough to handle.
- 18:33You know, you, you're with a team that you trust and you know, those guys say they didn't do anything.
- 18:39You know, I trust those guys 80 times a year with my wife with working on the car and they, you know,
- 18:44They all say they didn't do it.
- 18:45So, you know, when you're at that point, it kind of, it gives you a, you know, kind of what sort of, what am I actually doing over here at this time?
- 18:55But, yeah, I'd say that would be the lowest point for sure.
- 19:00A break on this edition of Rusty's Garage.
- 19:02More of the James McFadden shortcast on the other side of this.
- 19:08You're listening to the Motorsport Brief.
- 19:10If you're enjoying this catch-up with James McFadden and you'd like to hear more of his story, when you're finished with the shortcast, jump back to the library and search for his feature episode.
- 19:20From his early days in Speedway, his proper understanding of engines and working with...
- 19:25one of the engine building gurus in supercars, taking on the United States, the outlaw dream, and much, much more.
- 19:33Coming up, thoughts on the very cool addition to the Velo Adelaide 500 offering that is right up his alley, Speedway.
- 19:41Let's continue the convo with Jay Mack now.
- 19:45Let's turn our attention to home now.
- 19:47It's great that you're back here and you're back at a perfect time.
- 19:50Velo Adelaide 500 is literally just around the corner and they have everything from Cold Chisel, Crowded House, Supercross and importantly, Speedway, Sprint Car Racing.
- 20:01How excited are you about this?
- 20:03It is arguably going to be a pinnacle moment for the sport.
- 20:09in this part of the world and the investment that the South Australian government has made.
- 20:13Um, that's, you know, the big feather in the cap of both the event and the sport, isn't it?
- 20:18Yeah, it is.
- 20:19It really is.
- 20:20Um, and South Australia really needed it on the spring car side of things for us.
- 20:24Um, you know, just shelf selfishly, um, you know, Adelaide and South Australia was, was one of the best places we would go to race for boxing day at Speedway city.
- 20:33And to not have that there now is, is sad for, for our sport, but,
- 20:38um, what they're doing, uh, with this, the Velo race is, is huge.
- 20:42Um, obviously Napa have stepped in and helped out a lot and they see a lot of value in it and, and the government sees value in, in what we have.
- 20:49Um, you know, the track is going to be what it is.
- 20:53Um, we don't know.
- 20:54That's the great thing about it.
- 20:55It's the, the questionable thing.
- 20:57Is it going to be great?
- 20:58Is it going to be tough?
- 20:59Is it going to be hard?
- 21:00Like, is it going to be slick and dusty?
- 21:02We, we, no one knows.
- 21:03So I think that's a fun, you know, a really fun thing.
- 21:06Um,
- 21:07You know, the thing I keep trying to tell people is, is I've been to the best racetracks in the world with the greatest facilities in the world and had the worst track racetrack I've ever raced on.
- 21:16So who knows what we're going to get if we go in there with an open mind and, and have, you know, have us have it as an entertainment, you know, mind instead of a race mind.
- 21:28I think it's going to be one of the coolest weekends we've had, um, in sprint car racing for sure.
- 21:33I'm excited to be a part of it.
- 21:34Um,
- 21:35hanging out, I'm excited to be there and get after it and hopefully get the Napa Hodges Motorsport car up the front.
- 21:43If not, I'll be there having a great time and probably go to one of the concerts or something and watch some supercars go around as well.
- 21:51Does the notion of the track, which is, I mean, as you and I talk, is well under construction.
- 21:56Do you get a little bit nervous about that?
- 21:57Because it's something that is being built at speed for a temporary purpose.
- 22:03And you have walked this road before, I think, with an event in Nashville from memory, haven't you?
- 22:07So what were kind of the learnings of that sort of scenario?
- 22:11Yeah, I raced the World of Outlaws race in Nashville.
- 22:14And racetrack-wise, it was –
- 22:17really small it was basically through pit lane of the nascar and then you turn around and come back down the other side of pit lane so it was tiny you know our cars aren't made for that but at the same time it kind of made for probably the coolest qualifying session i've ever watched we were just um backing it into the fence as hard as we could to get grip so that we knocked the fence down once and um just had a lot of
- 22:41you know, had a lot of struggles getting our cars to actually do what they needed to do, which made it really cool to watch.
- 22:47Um, you know, some of these big tracks, you know, like a Warrnambool or such, our cars are made to go around there.
- 22:52So they just turn the corners really nice where we're probably going to have to manhandle them a lot, um, to get them to do what they need to do.
- 23:00And I think that that's a different driving style.
- 23:03And a lot of the people, a lot of people are used to, so it's going to make it entertaining, uh,
- 23:08Yeah, everyone's going to have their negativity about it.
- 23:12There's no doubt that trying to build a racetrack in three days is hard.
- 23:16Like Warrnambool's just got their surface right after two and a half years.
- 23:19So who knows what we're going to get.
- 23:22But I think that's the fun of it.
- 23:24Like I said, as long as we entertain and...
- 23:27present well and try our hardest to put on a great show, I think the fans are going to love it.
- 23:33So, yeah, I'm all for it.
- 23:35Good stuff.
- 23:35The dose of positivity, I reckon, is excellent.
- 23:37And we have, in prior discussions, not been afraid to say about the sport, you know, maybe they need to do a bit of navel-gazing at times, but this is a real positive thing, right?
- 23:46Can I touch on what you mentioned before about Napa, about Hodges Motorsport and stuff?
- 23:51I mean, you're on billboards around town.
- 23:54You must be...
- 23:55proud of the fact that uh and you're not one to pump your own tires but but the contribution you're making to help the profile of the sport in and around this you must feel a sense of pride in that yeah absolutely um i've always just tried to let my racing to do the talking and i'm not much of a talker that way but um you know tim's done a really good job with the promotion side of things
- 24:19you know, lifting my profile up.
- 24:22You know, I think getting it to different eyes has been the cool part.
- 24:25I think this is what's going to be so great about this race at Adelaide is the different, you know, the different eyes that are on it.
- 24:32I know a few friends that I have in Adelaide are all got tickets and they're excited to go and then they don't go to a lot of Sprinkai races.
- 24:39Yeah, I think that's going to be really cool, but I'm excited to be a part of it, whether I'm a senior in it and viewed as a bit of someone that's going to help stew the ship.
- 24:51I'm pumped to be that part of it too.
- 24:54So if I can use a little bit of what I learned over the years racing over in America and things that we can and can't do, I'd be happy to share it for sure.
- 25:03Have you been following supercars while you've been stateside?
- 25:06Will you be wandering the pit garages or up in the corporate box enjoying a little lemonade and taking in the racing that way?
- 25:14Probably both, I'd say.
- 25:15I've got a pretty busy schedule.
- 25:16We've got the two-seater there as well, two-seater sprint car.
- 25:19So I'm going to be doing a couple laps in that, taking some people for some rides.
- 25:23So I'll be busy, but yeah, for sure, I wouldn't mind a couple of lemonades watching cars go around.
- 25:32Yeah, I'm obviously close with Kenny Mac, so I'll probably go hang out there for a little bit and have a look at what they're doing.
- 25:39Yeah, like I said, it's a different environment for me too.
- 25:42We normally pack up at 10 o'clock and we're driving to the next Walmart to have a sleep, so it'd be nice to pack up and walk to a hotel room in the city.
- 25:52And yeah, see some good racing and some concerts and like you said, motocross and everything that goes on with that whole event, which is what I'm proud that Sprint Cars is going to be a part of.
- 26:03Awesome.
- 26:04Finally, for the young racers that are listening, and there are plenty across a raft of disciplines here, you know that I have a soft spot for Speedway.
- 26:12What kind of piece of advice would you give for that next wave, that next generation?
- 26:16Maybe the biggest learning from your adventure so far?
- 26:20uh well i think the biggest thing that i've taken in um you know you gotta remember i came from winning 20 races a year in australia and championships and thought i was pretty bad ass to uh get my ass handed to me every night and in america so i think the biggest thing that i've taken from it is everyone can win because it's easy but it's how well you can lose um you know and come back from those losses i think that's
- 26:46You know, on the World Outlaw schedule, when you race an 80 race, you're going to lose a hell of a lot more than you're going to win.
- 26:52So it's how good you can, you know, whether that's giving feedback back to the crew chief or what you need to...
- 26:59change as a driver to get better at a certain style of racetrack um i think that's the biggest thing that i learned um was yeah winning's super easy it's you know when you win your car's the best you're driving the best you know it's the easiest part of racing a car but um when you suck or your car sucks or your head's not in the right game man it's hard to dig yourself out of that hole and and get back up to where you need to be so yeah i think
- 27:26learn to lose good, if that's a good saying.
- 27:30Great piece of advice.
- 27:31Thank you for coming back on the pod.
- 27:33I think that brings you maybe level with Greg Murphy.
- 27:36I think you're a four-time now, which we're really grateful for.
- 27:39Enjoy being back home and making those roasts in your own place and getting that special family time.
- 27:45We love the fact that you are still going to be wheeling a sprint car, both down under and from time to time in the United States.
- 27:53And have a fantastic Adelaide 500.
- 27:55Thank you.
- 27:55Thanks, man.
- 27:56Appreciate it.
- 27:56I hope everyone can come out and watch us throw some dust around the Adelaide streets.
- 28:01It'd be great.
- 28:03Before we go today, a reminder, the latest ep of Drivers Only is out now, an official supercars pod that lives here in the garage and, as the name suggests, is Drivers Only.
- 28:14Brock Feeney, who steers this one along with Tim Slade ahead of his final full-time drive at Adelaide this weekend, and they're joined by a young star on the panel with a very bright future,
- 28:24in Aaron Love.
- 28:26I'd also like to take a moment to thank everyone involved in the Shannon Speed Series.
- 28:30After 10 wonderful years, the full stop was put on a great chapter of national motorsport at the Super Cheap Auto Bathurst International at the weekend just gone.
- 28:40From humble beginnings, it gave a raft of categories coverage,
- 28:45and significance.
- 28:46There was something really cool about the diverse array of classes.
- 28:49Fresh stuff like TCR, a tip of the hat to muscle cars in Trans Am.
- 28:54It gave single seaters a place to play and showcase production cars, GT, and a whole lot more.
- 29:00Lots of hard work went into the running of that series from Motorsport Australia, as well as our small but very dedicated little TV crew.
- 29:09Well done to everybody involved.
- 29:10It was a joy to be a part of.
- 29:13Congrats to those who took part in it and to everyone who picked up a championship win along the way.
- 29:19That is it for today.
- 29:20We'll catch you next week, everyone.
- 29:21Bye for now.
