April 29 - What Truly Lasts · Bible Chat Devotional

• 0:02
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
• 0:06
rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, April 29th.
• 0:11
Wisdom that lasts. A lot of things look valuable
• 0:14
until you realize they cannot last.
• 0:17
Money can be lost. Popularity can shift.
• 0:20
Achievements can fade. Approval can disappear
• 0:22
overnight. Psalm 49, verses 5 to 6 asks why
• 0:27
we should fear in times of trouble when others trust in
• 0:29
wealth and boast in riches. It reminds us that wealth cannot
• 0:33
save the soul. It was never meant to.
• 0:37
Proverbs chapter 15, verses 5 to 6, points us toward a better
• 0:41
treasure. It says that wise lips spread
• 0:43
knowledge and that in the House of the righteous there is much
• 0:46
treasure. That treasure is not only
• 0:49
material, it is the richness of a life shaped by God, wisdom,
• 0:53
  peace, integrity, love, and faithfulness.
• 0:57
Romans chapter 14 verse 17 says the Kingdom of God is not a
• 1:01
matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness and peace
• 1:04
and joy in the Holy Spirit. That is what lasts, Not image,
• 1:09
not status, not the temporary things we use to measure
• 1:13
ourselves against others. God's Kingdom is marked by
• 1:16
righteousness, peace and joy. So ask yourself today, what am I
• 1:20
building my life around? What do I think I need in order
• 1:24
to be OK? If your worth is tied to
• 1:26
success, attention, or possessions, your heart will
• 1:29
always feel unstable. But if your life is rooted in
• 1:33
Christ, you can experience a treasure that circumstances
• 1:36
cannot steal. Wisdom that lasts teaches us to
• 1:39
value what heaven values. Speak truth, seek peace, walk in
• 1:44
righteousness. Let joy come from the Holy
• 1:46
  Spirit, not from temporary applause.
• 1:49
The world offers treasures that fade.
• 1:51
God forms treasure within you that lasts.
• 1:53
Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you for
• 1:57
showing me what truly matters. Help me stop chasing temporary
• 2:00
things as if they can satisfy my soul.
• 2:03
Teach me to value righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy
• 2:06
Spirit. Fill my life with wisdom that
• 2:09
lasts and let my heart find its treasure in you.
• 2:12

Proverbs chapter 15 verses 5 to 6 World English Bible.
• 3:24
A fool despises his Father's correction, but he who heeds
• 3:27
reproof shows prudence. In the House of the righteous is
• 3:31
much treasure, but the income of the wicked brings trouble.
• 3:34
Psalm Chapter 49 World English Bible for the chief musician.
• 3:40
A Psalm by the sons of Korra. Hear this all you peoples,
• 3:44
listen, all you inhabitants of the world, both low and high,
• 3:47
rich and poor, together. My mouth will speak words of
• 3:51
wisdom, My heart will utter understanding.
• 3:54
I will incline my ear to a proverb.
• 3:56
I will solve my Riddle on the harp.
• 3:58
Why should I fear in the days of evil, when iniquity at my heels
• 4:02
surrounds me, Those who trust in their wealth and boast in the
• 4:06
multitude of their riches, none of them can by any means redeem
• 4:09
his brother, nor give God a ransom for him, for the
• 4:13
redemption of their life is costly.
• 4:16
No payment is ever enough. That he should live on forever,
• 4:19
that he should not see corruption, For he sees that
• 4:23
wise men die likewise the fool and the senseless parish, and
• 4:26
leave their wealth to others. Their inward thought is that
• 4:30
their houses will endure forever, and their dwelling
• 4:33
places to all generations. They name their lands after
• 4:36
themselves. But man, despite his riches,
• 4:39
doesn't endure. He is like the animals that
• 4:42
perish. This is the destiny of those who
• 4:45
are foolish and of those who approve their sayings.
• 4:48
Selah. They are appointed as a flock.
• 4:50
For she, all death shall be their shepherd.
• 4:53
The upright shall have dominion over them in the morning their
• 4:57
beauty shall decay in Sheol far from their mansion.
• 5:01
But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will
• 5:04
  receive me. Selah.
• 5:06
Don't be afraid when a man is made rich, when the glory of his
• 5:09
house is increased. For when he died he will carry
• 5:12
nothing away. His glory won't descend after
• 5:15
him, though while he lived he blessed his soul.
• 5:19
And men praise you when you do well for yourself.
• 5:21
He shall go to the generation of his Father's.
• 5:24
They shall never see the light. A man who has riches without
• 5:28
understanding is like the animals that perish.
• 5:31
Romans Chapter 14 World English Bible Now accept one who is weak
• 5:36
in faith, but not for disputes over opinions.
• 5:39
One man has faith to eat all things, but he who is weak eats
• 5:43
only vegetables. Don't let him who eats despise
• 5:46
him who doesn't eat. Don't let him who doesn't eat
• 5:49
judge him who eats, for God has accepted him.
• 5:52
Who are you who judge another servant?
• 5:55
To his own Lord he stands or falls.
• 5:58
Yes, he will be made to stand, for God has power to make him
• 6:01
stand. One man esteems one day as more
• 6:04
important, another esteems every day alike.
• 6:07
Let each man be fully assured in his own mind.
• 6:11
He who observes the day observes it to the Lord, and he who does
• 6:14
not observe the day to the Lord, he does not observe it.
• 6:18
He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks.
• 6:22
He who doesn't eat to the Lord, he doesn't eat and gives God
• 6:25
thanks. For none of us lives to himself,
• 6:27
and none dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the
• 6:30
Lord, or if we die, we die to the Lord.
• 6:34
If therefore we live or die, we are the Lords.
• 6:37
For to this end Christ died, rose, and lived again, that he
• 6:40
might be Lord of both the dead and the living.
• 6:43
But you, why do you judge your brother or you?
• 6:46
Again, why do you despise your brother?
• 6:48
For we will all stand before the judgement seat of Christ.
• 6:51
For it is written as I live, says the Lord to me.
• 6:54
Every knee will bow, every tongue will confess to God, so
• 6:59
then each one of us will give account of himself to God.
• 7:03
Therefore let's not judge one another anymore, but judge this
• 7:06
rather that no man put a stumbling block in his brother's
• 7:09
way or an occasion for falling. I know and am persuaded in the
• 7:14
Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean of itself, except that
• 7:18
to him who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is
• 7:21
unclean. Yet if because of food your
• 7:24
brother is grieved, you walk no longer in love, don't destroy
• 7:28
with your food him for whom Christ died, then don't let your
• 7:32
good be slandered. For God's Kingdom is not eating
• 7:35
and drinking, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy
• 7:38
Spirit. For he who serves Christ in
• 7:41
these things is acceptable to God and approved by men.
• 7:45
So then let's follow after things which make for peace and
• 7:48
things by which we may build one another up.
• 7:52
  Don't overthrow God's work for food's sake.
• 7:55
All things indeed are clean. However, it is evil for that man
• 7:58
who creates A stumbling block by eating.
• 8:01
It is good to not eat meat, drink wine, nor do anything by
• 8:04
which your brother stumbles, is offended, or is made weak.
• 8:08
Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God.
• 8:12
Happy is he who doesn't judge himself in that which he
• 8:14
approves, but he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because it
• 8:18
isn't of faith, and whatever is not of faith is sin.
• 8:22
Now to him who is able to establish you according to my
• 8:25
good news and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the
• 8:29
revelation of the mystery which has been kept secret through
• 8:32
long ages, but now is revealed. And by the Scriptures of the
• 8:37
prophets, according to the commandment of the eternal God
• 8:40
is made known for obedience of faith to all the nations, to the
• 8:44
only wise God through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory
• 8:48
  forever. Amen.
