Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Well here at one look up Alex Media.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Firstly, I wanna say to the six US service members
- 0:13Speaker 1: that have been killed in the line of duty taking
- 0:16Speaker 1: out the tyrannical Iranian regime killing Kamani over the weekend.
- 0:26Speaker 2: God bless your sacrifice. Thank you for your sacrifice.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Now I'm gonna go into some sports talk, but you
- 0:33Speaker 1: cannot be here to talk sports without the servicemen and
- 0:39Speaker 1: women that have dedicated their lives for two hundred and
- 0:41Speaker 1: fifty years.
- 0:43Speaker 2: So the six service members US service members that have
- 0:46Speaker 2: lost their.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Life defending our freedom, defending the freedoms of the Iranian people,
- 0:55Speaker 1: those six must be honored. And I'll get into this
- 1:01Speaker 1: on one like up Alex News. But I'm not ready
- 1:04Speaker 1: to call this a full blown warn war yet because
- 1:07Speaker 1: we don't have boots on the ground, and may we
- 1:08Speaker 1: not have boots on the ground.
- 1:12Speaker 2: But but.
- 1:16Speaker 1: We do have some numbers to talk about on the
- 1:18Speaker 1: sports side of things, because in the NAB National Association
- 1:24Speaker 1: Broadcasters newsletter, they released the article or side of the
- 1:32Speaker 1: article from the Associated Press that the Winter Olympics in
- 1:37Speaker 1: Milan scored a rating of twenty four million viewers on
- 1:46Speaker 1: average across primetime coverage from two to five Eastern.
- 1:50Speaker 2: And primetime in Milan eight to eleven pm Eastern through Friday.
- 1:57Speaker 1: This was published on February twenty second, so this was
- 2:00Speaker 1: through a couple fridays ago. That is a ninety four
- 2:03Speaker 1: percent improvement over the twenty twenty two Beijing Games that
- 2:09Speaker 1: was the last Winter Games. It's the second Shared Olympics
- 2:12Speaker 1: where viewers have returned in large numbers. Twenty twenty four
- 2:15Speaker 1: pairs Summer Games were up twenty were up eighty two
- 2:18Speaker 1: percent from twenty twenty one in Tokyo. Complete numbers from
- 2:24Speaker 1: the seventeen days are expected to be released on Monday,
- 2:29Speaker 1: February twenty third, but overall, because this article was in
- 2:35Speaker 1: Today's newsletter, overall a ninety four percent plus improvement for
- 2:42Speaker 1: NBC's Olympic coverage from one Winter Games to the next,
- 2:46Speaker 1: and curling.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Got a big view in viewing as well.
- 2:52Speaker 1: The US gold medal game against Canada the men's on
- 2:57Speaker 1: February twenty second, averaging eighteen point six million live viewers
- 3:03Speaker 1: on NBC and Peacock picking at twenty six million during
- 3:07Speaker 1: the overtime period, and eight point seven million Canadians watched
- 3:12Speaker 1: the conclusion the women's gold medal game average five point
- 3:16Speaker 1: three million viewers on USA Network and Peacock. Now why
- 3:21Speaker 1: am I talking about ratings. I'm talking about ratings because
- 3:30Speaker 1: I want that same viewership energy. I want that same excitement,
- 3:34Speaker 1: that same passion, that same patriotism and love of America
- 3:43Speaker 1: to be transferred. Now to the Paralympics. We know paralympian
- 3:48Speaker 1: here at one leg of alex.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Media, Patrick Halgren.
- 3:52Speaker 1: He qualified he'll be competing in the twenty twenty six
- 3:55Speaker 1: Winter Parain Olympics. How cool is that? In Milan, I'm
- 4:01Speaker 1: known guys that do sled hockey. Now I don't know
- 4:03Speaker 1: anybody on the USA team, but I'm excited to see
- 4:08Speaker 1: sled hockey, see what the team USA could do, because
- 4:10Speaker 1: they've won golds for quite a few times actually, and
- 4:15Speaker 1: they do have adaptive curling. But if there was ever
- 4:19Speaker 1: a week to cover adaptive sports, it's this week. If
- 4:22Speaker 1: there was ever a week to launch just, you know,
- 4:26Speaker 1: more conversations about adaptive sports, it would be this week.
- 4:32Speaker 2: To drum up.
- 4:33Speaker 1: The Paralympics would start with the opening ceremony on March sixth,
- 4:39Speaker 1: And I really do hope that the millions that tuned
- 4:41Speaker 1: in to the Cortina Milano Milano Courtina.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Winter Olympics.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Can be transferred now to the Paralympics because adaptive athletes
- 4:54Speaker 1: deserve to be viewed and seen as well. Let me
- 4:59Speaker 1: say that again. Adaptive athletes deserve to be seen as well.
- 5:07Speaker 1: And they are competitive. I think disabled community is a
- 5:11Speaker 1: very competitive community.
- 5:14Speaker 2: We want to win.
- 5:15Speaker 1: It's not just oh look how awesome it is he
- 5:17Speaker 1: put that goal, that puck in the net. Like no,
- 5:21Speaker 1: these guys are more capable than some pity cheering.
- 5:26Speaker 2: They mean freaking business. They mean business. These Paralympians, they
- 5:34Speaker 2: don't do this to be like, oh look how cool
- 5:36Speaker 2: he is, or.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Look at that he made a basket Like no, they
- 5:41Speaker 1: really want to win. And I hope USA takes home
- 5:47Speaker 1: the gold in a lot of events, in every event.
- 5:52Speaker 1: But it's always exciting, especially now that I've been more
- 5:57Speaker 1: involved with the adaptive.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Community and following it, in seeing it.
- 6:00Speaker 1: And and following alongside to see this excitement, this build up,
- 6:07Speaker 1: this training, because it just shows we deserve to play
- 6:14Speaker 1: sports as much as anybody else.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Well, and I've said this before, I'll say this before
- 6:27Speaker 2: and I'll say it again. I believe.
- 6:37Speaker 1: That whether we have crutches, a wheelchair, a powerchair in
- 6:42Speaker 1: this case, sleds to play sled hockey, or adaptive curling,
- 6:47Speaker 1: they have those little things that push the curling up
- 6:50Speaker 1: the ice in case someone can do it by hand.
- 6:53Speaker 2: I mean, these different adaptations doesn't take away from the
- 6:58Speaker 2: fact that we are competing human beings.
- 7:01Speaker 1: And I've always thought people were disabled and then competitive
- 7:05Speaker 1: will have one leg up because you have to. There's
- 7:10Speaker 1: going to be stigmas attached to everybody, and the disabled
- 7:15Speaker 1: community finds a way to smash those stigmas, and yes,
- 7:18Speaker 1: through competition they do as well.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Through competition, we smash stigmas.
- 7:27Speaker 1: And I'm excited to see it once again in Milan
- 7:31Speaker 1: at the twenty twenty six Winter Olympics, and I'll be
- 7:34Speaker 1: watching carefully and reporting back to you here at the
- 7:38Speaker 1: One Leg Up alex Media because this channel and this
- 7:45Speaker 1: media outlet is designed to help up people have one
- 7:50Speaker 1: leg up. And you know how we do that by highlighting
- 7:52Speaker 1: those who are competitive athletes with disabilities showing.
- 7:57Speaker 2: How they have one leg up on life.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Patrick Holgan lost his leg in a motorcycle accident.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Only to become a paralympian. So if that's not motivating
- 8:08Speaker 2: enough for you. I don't know what to tell you.
- 8:12Speaker 1: But he doesn't do it to be you know, maybe
- 8:16Speaker 1: he doesn't it to be inspission, but he doesn't do
- 8:18Speaker 1: it for like, well look at me. He doesn't because
- 8:21Speaker 1: it's the only way he knows to be is to
- 8:22Speaker 1: be an athlete. And now we get to watch him
- 8:27Speaker 1: compete after hanging out with him in the summer of
- 8:30Speaker 1: this city, in the city the summer or late October,
- 8:34Speaker 1: I remember.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Exactly, but it was in twenty five. It was the
- 8:39Speaker 2: collapse of the year.
- 8:42Speaker 1: But those millions of viewers, turn your eyes now to
- 8:48Speaker 1: the Paralympics, the Winter Paralympics, and go Team USA. And
- 8:57Speaker 1: that's my message from one leg up outlex Media
