- 0:28Good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So I'd like to talk to you about contrast and how contrast
- 0:36affects us as human beings, you know, having crappy things
- 0:42happen, having things that are not what we want show up in our
- 0:47life, not even just crappy, but just things that we don't
- 0:50necessarily want. Show up in our life is actually
- 0:53a powerful tool that's given to us so that we can recognize
- 0:58contrast and You know, I often will hear people talk to me
- 1:03about how the most painful experiences have shaped them the
- 1:08most and in the best ways and I myself can say that is the
- 1:13truth. You know, losing my father, he
- 1:17was so young, he was 57. When he passed away, was the
- 1:21most difficult experience I have ever gone through in my life.
- 1:25And something words can't explain when you lose.
- 1:30Choose a parent. That's also your best friend.
- 1:34And I can say without question that it was the hardest thing
- 1:39that I've ever gone through. And at the same time, it was one
- 1:44of the most profound experiences that shaped my life in positive
- 1:49ways and the contrast of life with him and without him and the
- 1:56contrast of recognizing, how valuable Life is has definitely
- 2:04without a question shaped my entire life because it changed
- 2:08the way I functioned. It changed.
- 2:10What I was willing to do. It changed how I showed up the
- 2:13roles, I took the jobs, I took it took everything because I had
- 2:17a different point of reference to go from and when you use
- 2:22contrast to your benefit and you start to say, okay, this is here
- 2:26to help me. Instead of hurting me, it's kind
- 2:30of like the Difference between night and day.
- 2:32You know, if we just had night all the time, we'd be miserable.
- 2:35How many of us even realize that when we think about, oh yeah, I
- 2:38could never live in Alaska or I could never live in countries
- 2:41where it's dark for half the year.
- 2:43Like that would make me crazy. Well, of course it would,
- 2:46because the contrast of, you know, thinking of it all the
- 2:51time shifts you into a deep awareness.
- 2:54Yet we go through this every day night day night day and because
- 2:59we're used to it and the Contrast is not grand for us.
- 3:03We don't even notice it. We just go through our lives,
- 3:06not even noticing it, but think about what happens when it rains
- 3:10every day for, you know, two weeks straight.
- 3:12We just went through one of those phases.
- 3:14When it rained every day for two weeks straight, you kind of
- 3:17become like, oh my gosh, where's the sun?
- 3:20We're on a normal day. You know, we may appreciate the
- 3:24Sun but we don't even notice it. We just go about our day.
- 3:27Oh, it's a nice day. Well, whatever.
- 3:29But it's a quick, it's it's not even, you know, thought of or
- 3:32appreciated until it's gone. You know, you don't appreciate
- 3:37what you have until it's gone is the old saying, well, isn't that
- 3:40the truth? But that's really the root of
- 3:42that comes from understanding contrast and how it shows up in
- 3:45your life or you look at yourself and you say my
- 3:48relationship sucks and I don't like how this person treats me
- 3:54or my boss is this way and then you meet somebody that actually
- 3:59has a problem. That's really out of control and
- 4:03you say, wow, I guess my situation is not so bad at all.
- 4:06But we become accustomed to sitting in this swill of like,
- 4:11you know, complaining about it and we don't use contrast to our
- 4:15benefit. We don't say okay if this is
- 4:17going to be painful, then I'm going to do everything I can to
- 4:20work through and around this. I'm going to get to the other
- 4:23side of this. This is here to teach me.
- 4:25So when you think of the situations as if they're
- 4:27teaching you something giving you information, which they
- 4:31Helping u-shaped and move, then all of a sudden you become a
- 4:35much better person. You become much more much more
- 4:41beneficial to yourself. You don't react, you're not in a
- 4:44high reactive mode. All you're doing at that point
- 4:47is is you know, taking in the information and shifting and not
- 4:51being reactive. So I think that When you start
- 4:56to look for a contrast in your day, start with the most simple,
- 5:01things start to look for. The things that say, you know,
- 5:04where is the showing up to teach me something?
- 5:06Where can I look at outside of myself and say, okay, this is
- 5:10something that I recognize, I hear other people talk about
- 5:15this and for sure, I know this is a place where I can look at
- 5:18my own life and be grateful. I know, I can look at my own
- 5:21life and say, okay, I can learn from this other person's
- 5:24experience and I can A, wow, that's happened for them.
- 5:27I definitely don't want that to happen for me.
- 5:30So I'm going to benefit from their experience, their
- 5:33contrast. I'm going to look and I'm going
- 5:35to say, okay, I know this isn't something I want to entertain
- 5:40and use it to your benefit. Don't be the person that has to
- 5:43run into every wall in order to learn something.
- 5:45And understand, contrast is here to teach us.
- 5:49So you can learn from yourself in your own situations.
- 5:51With contrast, you can learn from others but just look and
- 5:54learn And I hope you guys have a blessed day and I will see you
- 5:58tomorrow.
