Transcript
- 0:15Speaker 1: Pushkin. Hello everyone, Malcolm Glaubol here, welcome back to another
- 0:23Speaker 1: preview of this month's bonus episode of revisionist History exclusively
- 0:29Speaker 1: for Pushnik's Though a word about that, we're now calling
- 0:33Speaker 1: our subscription offering Pushkin Plus. It's more to the point
- 0:37Speaker 1: because over here we offer everything you love about Pushkin
- 0:40Speaker 1: shows plus so much more, add free listening, behind the
- 0:45Speaker 1: scenes moments, bonus material, crazy as sides. These episodes will
- 0:50Speaker 1: appear exclusively in Pushkin Plus feeds once a month through
- 0:54Speaker 1: the end of the year. And this month we look
- 0:57Speaker 1: back at last season's episode about laundry and the Pushkin
- 1:00Speaker 1: staff members who didn't take too kindly to my detergent shaming.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Are we going to get a proud and gamble to
- 1:09Speaker 2: sponsor us or what? Because that really was free advertising
- 1:12Speaker 2: for them, that whole episode.
- 1:14Speaker 1: That's Pushkin's vice president for content development, Littal Mollaud. Pushkin
- 1:19Speaker 1: is a first Amendment first operation. We let people speak
- 1:23Speaker 1: their minds, and Littal is one of those old school
- 1:26Speaker 1: lefties who gets a little uncomfortable when journalists say nice
- 1:30Speaker 1: things about major multinational corporations. Let's just say I have
- 1:35Speaker 1: no such compunctions. I hope Pushkin ends up as a
- 1:39Speaker 1: major multinational corporation one day. Can you imagine Amazon, Facebook, Apple, Google,
- 1:45Speaker 1: Pushkin Industries. I was so amused by the internal backlash
- 1:51Speaker 1: that I actually sent out my two crack producers, Lee
- 1:55Speaker 1: and Alois to follow up with some of the pushkinites
- 1:58Speaker 1: who I ganged up on. One voice in particular might
- 2:02Speaker 1: sound familiar.
- 2:04Speaker 2: I didn't think too much about it other than mildly
- 2:07Speaker 2: invasive to have the president of your company asking about
- 2:11Speaker 2: what your launder deturgent is, but also felt unimpeachable in
- 2:16Speaker 2: my laundry detergent choice, so it wasn't too concerned.
- 2:20Speaker 1: He found himself cast in the role of straw man.
- 2:24Speaker 1: There's always a straw man in a revisionist history episode,
- 2:27Speaker 1: but in this case just mildly singed, I'm talking about
- 2:32Speaker 1: our VP of Special Audio Projects, Brendan Francis Newnham. Here's
- 2:39Speaker 1: how Brendan came across in our episode. If you google
- 2:42Speaker 1: the words Brooklyn, natural wine, farmer's market, vinyl records, and
- 2:46Speaker 1: whatever other affiliated terms show up automatically in the search field,
- 2:51Speaker 1: you get Brendan. You do your whites in hot water? Yeah, okay, good,
- 2:56Speaker 1: that's all.
- 2:57Speaker 2: I also add bleach into my whites with my e ghosts.
- 3:00Speaker 1: No, no, no, that's all I've heard enough. Brendan got
- 3:05Speaker 1: singled out by the revisionist history brain Trust for his
- 3:08Speaker 1: use of hot water on whites, along with his eccentric
- 3:12Speaker 1: choice of some kind of woke detergent called eCos eCos.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Good lord, but let's give Brendan a chance to say
- 3:20Speaker 1: his peace.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess I feel no need to defend myself.
- 3:25Speaker 2: If anything, I feel like Malcolm should maybe defend himself
- 3:28Speaker 2: for his mischaracterization of a brand that I think if
- 3:31Speaker 2: anyone does research, pays their workers really high wages, has
- 3:36Speaker 2: been a carbon neutral for a zillion years, has the
- 3:39Speaker 2: EPA lead platinum, et cetera, et cetera in all their buildings,
- 3:43Speaker 2: So their footprint, their whole supply chain footprint, is less
- 3:47Speaker 2: than Procter and Gamble by a long shot.
- 3:50Speaker 1: I should point out the Procter and Gamble powers their
- 3:53Speaker 1: detergent factories with wind. But whatever, Let's let Brendan carry on.
- 4:00Speaker 2: And the detergent smells good and it gets my clothes clean.
- 4:03Speaker 2: So I feel like leaning into the eCos thing was
- 4:06Speaker 2: I don't know, it was a little bit. I think
- 4:07Speaker 2: it was playing into some other stereotypes, some American myths
- 4:11Speaker 2: about people who live in Brooklyn and people who are
- 4:14Speaker 2: environmentally conscious, which it does it as service. So that's
- 4:19Speaker 2: my short bottle. But the bottom line, eCos far better
- 4:22Speaker 2: company than Procter and Gamble from all the research I've done.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Do I still have a job. Well, I still have
- 4:27Speaker 2: a job after this episode. I think I think you're safe.
- 4:30Speaker 2: I think you're safe.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Of course, Brendan is safe. As I said, we are
- 4:34Speaker 1: a First Amendment first operation here at Pushkin. We have
- 4:38Speaker 1: no issue with whatever crackpot theories our employees may espouse
- 4:42Speaker 1: as long as they make cool stuff. And trust me,
- 4:46Speaker 1: Brendan makes cool stuff.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Now. I was once a quick fire judge on Top
- 4:51Speaker 2: Chef and all these people came out of the woodwork
- 4:54Speaker 2: to contact me. Not since then this Malcolm episode, people
- 4:57Speaker 2: from my law school paths from my childhood emerged to
- 5:03Speaker 2: mock me, essentially after following Malcolm's lead.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, wait, Brendan is a lawyer. Why didn't
- 5:10Speaker 1: anyone tell me?
- 5:12Speaker 2: So I'm looking into some of my litigation strategies to
- 5:15Speaker 2: see what you know about defamation of character and stuff
- 5:18Speaker 2: like that. But I'll have my lawyer, contact revisions history. Yeah,
- 5:21Speaker 2: I think you have a case for emotional engages for sure.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Thank you.
