Harvard Medical School is paying $53 million to families whose loved ones’ bodies were sold without consent after former morgue manager Cedric Lodge stole and shipped body parts—including skin used for tanning and binding into books—to buyers. Lodge, his wife, and six others involved received prison sentences. Harvard calls the act “despicable” and vows to reform its Anatomical Gift Program, including launching a scholarship for medical students in 2027–2028 to honor body donors.
