- 0:01In order to be most effective in its action, the external nature
- 0:05must have the capacity of concentration of its efforts,
- 0:09whether this is a mental concentration or a vital or
- 0:13physical concentration. The focus must be total, without
- 0:17distraction, or it will yield less than the optimal result.
- 0:22We then come to the question of remembrance of the Divine in
- 0:25relation to the need for external concentration of
- 0:29effort. The effective remembrance is not
- 0:32some form of mental idea or thought, but an orientation or
- 0:36attitude of the being centered in the soul or psychic being.
- 0:41If the mind tries to remember, it necessarily divides its
- 0:45attention from its focused action.
- 0:48Mental remembrance may be a useful step in the long term
- 0:52process of bringing the psychic being forward, but it is at best
- 0:57a faint echo of the true remembrance of the psychic
- 1:01being. A disciple asks.
- 1:05It sometimes happens that when one is playing, one does not
- 1:09remember the divine. Then suddenly 1 remembers and
- 1:13has the feeling that something breaks and one no longer plays
- 1:17well. Why?
- 1:19The mother writes quote because everything is upset.
- 1:23That's the problem. So you think that when you are
- 1:26playing and do not remember, you play?
- 1:28Well, no, it is not quite that. It is that you do something with
- 1:33a certain concentration, work or play, and you are concentrated.
- 1:39But you have not developed the habit of mixing the remembrance
- 1:42of the Divine with the concentration, which is not
- 1:45difficult. But anyway you do not have the
- 1:48habit, and then suddenly the remembrance comes.
- 1:53Then two things may happen. Either the concentration is
- 1:57broken because you make an abrupt movement to seize the new
- 2:00attitude entering the consciousness, or else you feel
- 2:04a little remorse, a regret, a disquiet.
- 2:09Oh, I did not remember. That suffices.
- 2:12It upsets all you have done, for you change conditions
- 2:16completely. It is not the fact of
- 2:19remembering which makes you no longer play well, it is the fact
- 2:23of having disturbed your concentration.
- 2:26If you could remember without disturbing the concentration,
- 2:30which is not difficult, you would not only play well but
- 2:34would play better. End Quote.
