- 0:00Speaker 1: Now more of the marximone Show on seven to ten
- 0:04Speaker 1: wo R filling in form Mark here again is Ken Rosado.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Had a good Friday to you seven ten wore the
- 0:12Speaker 2: Voice of New York and whether it's this morning is
- 0:14Speaker 2: a man who's on a TV show that I get
- 0:16Speaker 2: to do each day on the streaming channel on New Jersey.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Brand and digital specialist and strategist Fisher, who can be
- 0:23Speaker 2: found on X and threads with user name at Fisher
- 0:26Speaker 2: and through his website Fisher dot Media to talk about
- 0:29Speaker 2: digital ID and how iPhone users can add a digital
- 0:33Speaker 2: version of their passport to their iPhones and then, in
- 0:36Speaker 2: a very different version of the story, how the EU
- 0:39Speaker 2: and UK are requiring citizens there to have a very
- 0:43Speaker 2: different and much more potentially dangerous version of digital ID.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Good morning to you, Fisher, Good morning.
- 0:48Speaker 1: A lot of pressure there, Yeah, I don't.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Have too high a bar for you. So let's let's
- 0:53Speaker 2: let's talk about the practical and safe use of digital IDA.
- 0:57Speaker 2: And that's the Apple version. Apple has his really cool
- 1:00Speaker 2: feature now a digital ID for wallet.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Yeah, and Google has the same. And with both Apple
- 1:06Speaker 1: Wallet and Google Wallet, you can now load your passport
- 1:09Speaker 1: your your United States passport into this wallet and if
- 1:13Speaker 1: you've used Apple Pay, and if you're in the city,
- 1:15Speaker 1: you've used it probably on the subway rider buses with
- 1:19Speaker 1: omni So it's really easy, really simple. You double click
- 1:22Speaker 1: a button on the side of your watch or your phone,
- 1:24Speaker 1: you tap to pay. The idea is the same thing.
- 1:27Speaker 1: And what's great about this and it's you know, New
- 1:29Speaker 1: York has its driver's license in an app. At this point,
- 1:32Speaker 1: New Jersey's pass legislation to have their driver's license mobile,
- 1:36Speaker 1: Connecticut and Pennsylvania is still up in the air as
- 1:38Speaker 1: to where that is. Having your passport allows you to
- 1:42Speaker 1: go through the airport using an ID where you can
- 1:46Speaker 1: tap and if you've been to an airport lately, you
- 1:48Speaker 1: have your regular lines, you have your TSA pre check lines,
- 1:51Speaker 1: you have your clear you have all that, but there's
- 1:53Speaker 1: a digital ID line and normally they do facial recognition
- 1:56Speaker 1: and some people don't like that. They don't want the
- 1:58Speaker 1: government to take your picture, even though that they're deleted afterwards.
- 2:01Speaker 1: It's just verification. But now having your passport in your phone,
- 2:05Speaker 1: and most people have a passport in one way or another,
- 2:09Speaker 1: you can use that digital ID even if you don't
- 2:12Speaker 1: have a you're in a state New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania
- 2:15Speaker 1: that does not have a digital driver's license, so it's
- 2:17Speaker 1: really convenient. It's also a convenient backup right of you know,
- 2:21Speaker 1: say you're traveling and you lost it, you get to
- 2:26Speaker 1: a checkpoint, the airport, whatever, you could begin that process
- 2:28Speaker 1: of easily easily or easier verifying your identification. So it
- 2:34Speaker 1: really opens up now having it on Apple on the
- 2:37Speaker 1: iPhone and your Apple Watch, and having it in your
- 2:41Speaker 1: Google wallet, of being able to have a standard identification
- 2:44Speaker 1: that you can use at all these airports. And then
- 2:46Speaker 1: eventually what comes down the line is the ability to
- 2:49Speaker 1: verify your identity on your phone or your age. So
- 2:52Speaker 1: say you're ordering from Uber Eats and you need to
- 2:56Speaker 1: want to order a bottle of wine for Thanksgiving dinner
- 2:59Speaker 1: and you need to verify your age, you would be
- 3:02Speaker 1: able to do that eventually digitally. So again, you know,
- 3:07Speaker 1: I know what we're going to go into, but having
- 3:09Speaker 1: a digital version of your driver's license or a digital
- 3:12Speaker 1: version of your passport isn't as scary as what might
- 3:16Speaker 1: be going on in other countries where they're doing national
- 3:19Speaker 1: digital ideas.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Let me just remind folks, you're listening to seven ten
- 3:23Speaker 2: wore the Voice of New York Ken Rosotto and from
- 3:26Speaker 2: Mark Simone on a Friday, and we are speaking to Fisher,
- 3:28Speaker 2: who is a brand and digital strategist. We're talking about
- 3:32Speaker 2: having your passport now on your iPhone or your Android.
- 3:35Speaker 2: I found myself the other day. I had driven from
- 3:37Speaker 2: Jersey to visit folks in Westchester, and while I was
- 3:40Speaker 2: halfway there, I realized, oh my god, I left my
- 3:43Speaker 2: wallet at home. But I remembered I have my driver's
- 3:45Speaker 2: license in my phone, so at least rather than turning
- 3:49Speaker 2: around and going home, I just continued on my way.
- 3:51Speaker 2: And I also have a credit card on my phone,
- 3:53Speaker 2: so I could tap and use that, but being fifty eight,
- 3:55Speaker 2: like I still had a panic attack not having my wallet. Now.
- 3:59Speaker 2: We talked about this is the positive right when you
- 4:01Speaker 2: use your you have your license on your phone. In
- 4:04Speaker 2: New York, New Jersey, all they can do is have
- 4:07Speaker 2: access when I say they police or whatever if you've
- 4:10Speaker 2: gotten stopped, they only have access to the info on
- 4:13Speaker 2: your license with a tap.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Correct. Correct. So what happens is and eventually as this
- 4:18Speaker 1: becomes a standard right and digital IDs begin to roll
- 4:22Speaker 1: out across the state, right now, only twelve states and
- 4:26Speaker 1: Puerto Rico have a driver's license vailable in your Apple wallets.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Some other states, like I said, New York, Oklahoma, they
- 4:31Speaker 1: have their own app. But eventually what will happen is
- 4:34Speaker 1: you go to We'll start easy. You go to a
- 4:36Speaker 1: bar or a restaurant and again need to verify ID
- 4:39Speaker 1: whether you're to get in or at the bar. You
- 4:42Speaker 1: would just tap your ID to a reader and it
- 4:45Speaker 1: would only give the information needed. So if your pictures
- 4:48Speaker 1: say that you're over twenty one whatever, that is right.
- 4:52Speaker 1: If you get pulled over by an officer, you they
- 4:54Speaker 1: would have a reader on them. I know there's a
- 4:56Speaker 1: lot of skepticism of well, don't hand your the police
- 4:59Speaker 1: officer your phone. Absolutely, don't hand anybody your phone. But
- 5:03Speaker 1: what they will eventually have is just a reader, probably
- 5:05Speaker 1: a small little you know, reader on their vest or
- 5:08Speaker 1: on a clipboard or something, and you'll just tap. It'll
- 5:11Speaker 1: only show the information that they need.
- 5:12Speaker 2: No.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Obviously, as a police officer, they will probably have your picture,
- 5:15Speaker 1: date of birth, you know, driver's license class, you know
- 5:19Speaker 1: whether you can drive an eighteen wheel or motorcycle, et cetera.
- 5:22Speaker 1: There'll probably be some information and when you go to TSA,
- 5:24Speaker 1: same thing. When you tap your phone, it'll give the
- 5:27Speaker 1: information needed to verify. You know, it's a real ID,
- 5:30Speaker 1: your again, your picture, your name, all of that, right
- 5:33Speaker 1: to match your ticket. So yes, it is a permission based,
- 5:37Speaker 1: you know, kind of identification. So you you only show
- 5:40Speaker 1: the information that that because we had.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Talked about that in the best is. My fear was, oh,
- 5:45Speaker 2: you hand your officer the phone and now he could
- 5:47Speaker 2: go through and he'll find something. Well, what's that and
- 5:49Speaker 2: you say that can't happen. You do not hand them
- 5:52Speaker 2: the phone. It's just a tap. They would have a reader,
- 5:55Speaker 2: just like restaurants have a reader when you go to peg.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Right, yeah, and it's right that or some I'm not
- 6:01Speaker 1: as familiar with the with Google as I am Apple,
- 6:04Speaker 1: because as you know, I'm an Apple fanboy, but I
- 6:06Speaker 1: have Express Transit, so I tap when I go to
- 6:09Speaker 1: the subway. But sometimes you have to double tap, you know,
- 6:12Speaker 1: or double click on the side of your phone and
- 6:14Speaker 1: then tap that way, depending on how you have your
- 6:16Speaker 1: phone set up. It's the same thing. And when you
- 6:18Speaker 1: go to TSA with your passport on your iOS or
- 6:22Speaker 1: Google device, Android device, same thing, you would double tap
- 6:25Speaker 1: or double click your phone, it would show the ID,
- 6:28Speaker 1: you tap it to their reader and then you wait
- 6:31Speaker 1: for you know, to verify, and then you walk through TSA.
- 6:33Speaker 2: And we have two minutes left. So I'm just giving
- 6:35Speaker 2: your heads up on that. You are listening to seven
- 6:37Speaker 2: ten w R the Voice of New York kens In
- 6:40Speaker 2: from Mark on a Friday with Fisher who is a
- 6:41Speaker 2: digital strategist, and Fisher talk about the difference between the
- 6:46Speaker 2: digital ID we're talking about here in the US and
- 6:48Speaker 2: now the digital ID which gives me the creeps, the
- 6:50Speaker 2: big brother version that they have in the EU and
- 6:52Speaker 2: in UK exactly.
- 6:55Speaker 1: So in Britain they are doing a mandatory digital ID
- 6:58Speaker 1: system by twenty twenty nine. There's saying it's to combat
- 7:00Speaker 1: illegal working and deter migrants, but it's going to serve
- 7:04Speaker 1: as your proof of right to work. It's going to
- 7:07Speaker 1: eventually be a way that you can get insurance, buy
- 7:09Speaker 1: a house, renting property, opening a bank account, all of that.
- 7:13Speaker 1: And as you know you might have heard in China
- 7:15Speaker 1: they use they have social credits, right, so if you
- 7:18Speaker 1: do something or say something, you can be restricted from
- 7:22Speaker 1: gaining access to something. That's what Britain's going down the path.
- 7:25Speaker 1: To is you may not be able to ride the tube,
- 7:27Speaker 1: or you may not be able to take a plane
- 7:30Speaker 1: because you wouldn't be able to get through you know,
- 7:32Speaker 1: their version of TSA. It is going down a path
- 7:35Speaker 1: of big brother and that again is in the UK.
- 7:37Speaker 1: It is not the same as digital driver's license or
- 7:40Speaker 1: your passport on your phone that we have here in
- 7:43Speaker 1: the United States.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Something that something tells me the mom Donnis of the
- 7:47Speaker 2: world wish it could go that way though.
- 7:49Speaker 1: I would, Yes, I'm sure it would, but it would
- 7:52Speaker 1: be in England. It's more like you're on a college
- 7:55Speaker 1: campus and you have your idea and you tap it
- 7:57Speaker 1: to go everywhere and get into everything. It's that same
- 7:59Speaker 1: premise compared to what we have here in the United States,
- 8:02Speaker 1: which is not that.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Yeah, and then your ID gets stolen in Britain and
- 8:06Speaker 2: then you your screw.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Yeah, and if that's right, and we talked about that,
- 8:10Speaker 1: if that's a way for you to access your bank
- 8:12Speaker 1: account and that ID accesses everything, if that does get
- 8:17Speaker 1: you know, hacked in some way in Britain, that can
- 8:22Speaker 1: cause a lot of problems because that's one ID for
- 8:24Speaker 1: everything that's bad.
- 8:26Speaker 2: All right, Well, I love talking to you all. The time,
- 8:28Speaker 2: because you are the man in the no brand and
- 8:29Speaker 2: digital strategist Fisher, who can be found on x on
- 8:32Speaker 2: threads with user name at Fisher and through his website
- 8:36Speaker 2: Fisher dot Media, which by the way, I have checked out.
- 8:38Speaker 2: It's very cool. Thank you for coming on this morning. Fisher.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Thanks talk to Lark.
- 8:42Speaker 2: You bet it's Kenrazanto went from Mark on your Friday.
- 8:45Speaker 2: When we come back, we will take your calls. To
- 8:47Speaker 2: give us a call It eight hundred three two one
- 8:50Speaker 2: zero seven ten. Eight hundred three two one zero seven
