- 0:10Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered, the New England Patriots season opener in Miami
- 0:17Speaker 1: against the Dolphins. Can't wait. I don't know what the
- 0:21Speaker 1: f is gonna happen. Josh Allen was out there at
- 0:23Speaker 1: the playoff game against Kansas City last year. That's why
- 0:27Speaker 1: they didn't win. Right, he didn't win because he was
- 0:32Speaker 1: He wasn't warmed up to not ever touch the ball
- 0:35Speaker 1: again in that champ Hello, you know, get the f back? Yeah,
- 0:39Speaker 1: look at ten plus yard run? Look and r O
- 0:42Speaker 1: look at that? How long do you think it tastes
- 0:44Speaker 1: to cleanse the palace? So I only need to know
- 0:47Speaker 1: where to throw in the towel. What are you talking about?
- 0:49Speaker 1: Why would you ever throw in the towel? One more email,
- 0:52Speaker 1: then we'll throw in the towel. This is Patriots Unfiltered,
- 0:56Speaker 1: fueled by Duncan. All right, Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It
- 1:02Speaker 1: is Wednesday here at Gila Stadium, our first Wednesday show
- 1:06Speaker 1: of the season. So gang's all here. It's dudes, it's Tamara,
- 1:11Speaker 1: it's Paul it's me. It's Matt and the booth, and
- 1:14Speaker 1: we'll be talking Patriots for the next two hours. We
- 1:17Speaker 1: should probably give a call down to uh West Palm
- 1:20Speaker 1: Beach to Alex and see what she's doing. It looks
- 1:23Speaker 1: like they're setting up the press conferences. Is speaking as
- 1:27Speaker 1: we speak? Oh yeah, okay, so Bill speaking right now?
- 1:31Speaker 1: All right? Um, he's down on the field at the
- 1:35Speaker 1: training facility, which is what Palm Palm Beach Atlantic, Palm
- 1:39Speaker 1: Beach Atlantic. I think I played baseball, there is that
- 1:42Speaker 1: rights one of those they do not. They are practicing,
- 1:48Speaker 1: I believe, on a converted soccer field right right, So,
- 1:53Speaker 1: which is interesting considering I'm surprised I didn't go to
- 1:56Speaker 1: the University of Miami. We aren't they using most teams
- 1:59Speaker 1: all have. That's that's why they couldn't get any anywhere
- 2:03Speaker 1: to practice. They had a really hard time with that.
- 2:06Speaker 1: I'm so confused. Yeah, they mean they had to find
- 2:08Speaker 1: a place that doesn't have a football team. So hence
- 2:14Speaker 1: the Beach Atlantic, right, which is like good, like a
- 2:17Speaker 1: good ninety minutes away from from Like players must be
- 2:20Speaker 1: thrilled about that. Yeah, so I guess they're gonna stay
- 2:23Speaker 1: in one hotel and then move to another hotel Saturday.
- 2:27Speaker 1: So they'll be going into a hotel on Saturday, just
- 2:32Speaker 1: like they would for a regular road game. So it's weird.
- 2:35Speaker 1: That's a lot. Yeah, I mean, Paul and I discussed
- 2:38Speaker 1: that you were here yesterday tomorrow you weren't. But we
- 2:40Speaker 1: were thinking, like, why did they do this? And you know,
- 2:42Speaker 1: maybe the heat, but they've never done this before with
- 2:45Speaker 1: the heat, And we're thinking, Mary, it's Romstein. You know,
- 2:50Speaker 1: they just don't want to be here with all this
- 2:53Speaker 1: concert nonsense going on in the service tunnel and everything,
- 2:57Speaker 1: and maybe it was just an opportunity. You know what,
- 2:59Speaker 1: we can killed two birds with one stone. We can
- 3:01Speaker 1: get acclimated to the heat and get get out of
- 3:04Speaker 1: all the confusion going on at the stadium. I mean,
- 3:07Speaker 1: you know, because because we knew this concert schedule a
- 3:10Speaker 1: long time ago, so they could plan for this. Yeah,
- 3:12Speaker 1: probably stayed in the obvious too, But I just I
- 3:15Speaker 1: find it hard to get off to a worse start
- 3:17Speaker 1: than they got in Week eighteen last year, allowing a
- 3:21Speaker 1: long drive, throwing a pick six, allowing a long drive.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Maybe that's part of it too. I mean, I know
- 3:26Speaker 1: that's a specific instance of last season. But it still
- 3:29Speaker 1: felt like they were not ready to go on either
- 3:31Speaker 1: side of the ball going down there. Whether it's different
- 3:34Speaker 1: all that, but but still I think it's, you know,
- 3:36Speaker 1: a little bit all connected. All of these things. All
- 3:38Speaker 1: these things could be part of the impetus. Well, but
- 3:41Speaker 1: all that that's recent though. Yeah, this had to be
- 3:45Speaker 1: planning months ago. They didn't know that was going to happen. Well,
- 3:48Speaker 1: it seemed like they jumped into it in the off season.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I mean, I wonder if this was fresh in their
- 3:51Speaker 1: mind of like, man, we couldn't have gotten a worse
- 3:53Speaker 1: start than when we got Maybe we need to rethink
- 3:55Speaker 1: things a little bit if we have a chance to. Yeah,
- 3:57Speaker 1: I mean this is extreme. This is extreme and down
- 4:00Speaker 1: on Tuesday. Yeah, you know, I just wonder I said
- 4:04Speaker 1: it yesterday. I think they need to play clean football.
- 4:07Speaker 1: I like, my hope is that this that would be
- 4:09Speaker 1: what this result will be. All Right, They're not going
- 4:11Speaker 1: to go out there and and and play terribly right
- 4:14Speaker 1: out of the start. They're going to be at least
- 4:16Speaker 1: ready to go out there and and try to execute
- 4:17Speaker 1: things without throwing picks and you know, missing tackles and
- 4:21Speaker 1: the pre snap penalties and all those kind of things
- 4:23Speaker 1: that well that that's been the mo of Belichick teams
- 4:27Speaker 1: for years. But we've seen those things crop up the
- 4:29Speaker 1: last two years, and you know it's things are different now.
- 4:33Speaker 1: So like that an early preview of Mike's key to
- 4:36Speaker 1: the game. Yes, playing clean. Yeah, it's more than a preview.
- 4:39Speaker 1: It actually is what it is like. You can't you
- 4:42Speaker 1: can't say, oh, this is how it's been, this is
- 4:44Speaker 1: how it will be anymore. You can't do that, you know, no,
- 4:48Speaker 1: And that's I think a lot of you know, a
- 4:50Speaker 1: lot of your conventional wisdom they came to believe over
- 4:52Speaker 1: the last couple of years with the strong start's best
- 4:53Speaker 1: football after Thanksgiving has been challenged. So you know, I
- 4:57Speaker 1: don't fault them for taking these steps. I just you know,
- 4:59Speaker 1: I it translates in some sort of tangible way because
- 5:02Speaker 1: if they go down there and you know, they don't
- 5:04Speaker 1: really look like they're ready to come out of the
- 5:06Speaker 1: gate rare and a go, and you know they come
- 5:08Speaker 1: out flat. I mean, I also think there's an element
- 5:10Speaker 1: too of this game where your your depth is probably
- 5:12Speaker 1: going to be tapped too, Like you're really gonna have
- 5:14Speaker 1: to probably play a lot of guys even though they're
- 5:16Speaker 1: going down there early. I think everybody's going to get
- 5:19Speaker 1: a chance to play, a chance to maybe you know,
- 5:20Speaker 1: and somehow Bill does that where he pulls like a
- 5:23Speaker 1: guy that's kind of random and you're like, why is
- 5:25Speaker 1: he playing in there now here in the first couple
- 5:27Speaker 1: of weeks. And I think they, like we talked about yesterday,
- 5:30Speaker 1: extension of the preseason and that you're still trying to
- 5:32Speaker 1: figure out what you have. You're also still giving guys chances,
- 5:34Speaker 1: I think to play a little bit too. So you know,
- 5:38Speaker 1: some of those younger players might all of a sudden
- 5:40Speaker 1: be in a critical situation that you need them to
- 5:43Speaker 1: produce a guy like JJ Taylor. We'll see what the
- 5:45Speaker 1: injury reports today with Ty Montgomery, but you know, someone
- 5:47Speaker 1: like him, this could be a great opportunity for him,
- 5:49Speaker 1: right It could be you know, Keith. Third down receivers
- 5:53Speaker 1: are all covered. You gotta you know, you gotta shake
- 5:54Speaker 1: loose and make the conversion. So I think that I
- 5:58Speaker 1: think there's a lot going on. I think there's a
- 6:00Speaker 1: lot going on for this team. And you know, just
- 6:02Speaker 1: seeing all these narratives that are kind of piling up
- 6:04Speaker 1: after the Patriots summer, all the excitement for the Dolphins
- 6:07Speaker 1: Tyreek Hill, the new offensive line. I was reading, um,
- 6:10Speaker 1: you know in the clips with the Dard's little preview
- 6:12Speaker 1: talk to Alan Poopa's always say, Pop, I'm sure are
- 6:17Speaker 1: going to find that out Sunday. There you go. But
- 6:21Speaker 1: I mean I thought he had, you know, he had.
- 6:23Speaker 1: He said kind of what everybody's kind of saying, and
- 6:25Speaker 1: that the Dolphins have kind of handled the Patriots the
- 6:28Speaker 1: last couple of times they've played. The Dolphins have gotten better.
- 6:30Speaker 1: All the reports out of Patriots camp is that, you know,
- 6:32Speaker 1: they couldn't string two plays together. So he's like, I
- 6:35Speaker 1: expect the Dolphins to win handily. And you know, I
- 6:37Speaker 1: don't really fault him for that point of view. I
- 6:39Speaker 1: think because when you look at the you know, the
- 6:41Speaker 1: real facts of the recent matchups, how the teams will
- 6:44Speaker 1: looked this summer, the additions they made, it's you know,
- 6:46Speaker 1: when many people come to that conclusion that the Dolphins
- 6:49Speaker 1: should should probably win this game, I think everyone's gonna
- 6:51Speaker 1: have to be bought in. It can't be like one person,
- 6:54Speaker 1: like being the star of the team, because, like you mentioned,
- 6:56Speaker 1: depth is going to be an issue, and like people
- 6:58Speaker 1: like Kendrick Bourne, who's been silent all summer long. I
- 7:01Speaker 1: think he cannot be silent this Sunday, Like we need
- 7:04Speaker 1: to see him active, Jacobe active. Literally everyone when they're
- 7:08Speaker 1: out there needs to be really good, at their best, honestly,
- 7:13Speaker 1: at the very least not making bone head at least
- 7:15Speaker 1: they're September best. Yeah, Like, it can't be like Kendrick
- 7:21Speaker 1: Bourne is on the field every play and we don't
- 7:22Speaker 1: even know he's out there. Like that can't be a thing. Yeah, yeah,
- 7:25Speaker 1: well he I mean, he had a quiet, a quiet summer,
- 7:27Speaker 1: and I mean I think he had a quiet summer
- 7:29Speaker 1: last year. I mean, it's interesting how some of the
- 7:31Speaker 1: same themes have emerged from camp that did last year
- 7:33Speaker 1: where Kendrick Bourne didn't really know what we had. We
- 7:35Speaker 1: all felt really good about John U. Smith, you know,
- 7:37Speaker 1: and despite the performances last year when Bourne kind of
- 7:40Speaker 1: came on and John Nu and you know, those guys
- 7:42Speaker 1: maybe faded out agal or faded out a little bit.
- 7:45Speaker 1: You know, we're still kind of back at that same place,
- 7:47Speaker 1: kind of hoping like, all right, well, hopefully Kendrick Bourne
- 7:49Speaker 1: is able to pop a little bit like he did
- 7:50Speaker 1: last year. But I agree, they don't have a lot
- 7:52Speaker 1: of depth, and you know, I think Miami's going to
- 7:54Speaker 1: send the house at them with blitzes and man coverage,
- 7:57Speaker 1: and you know, we talk about guys being able to
- 7:59Speaker 1: un hover. I think that's what this This game will
- 8:02Speaker 1: tell you a lot right out of the gate. And
- 8:03Speaker 1: it's you know, kind of the same group they're going
- 8:06Speaker 1: in with that they had last year, So might be
- 8:09Speaker 1: asking a lot. I know, if I was Josh Boyer
- 8:10Speaker 1: looking at this team, I'd say, well, why do I
- 8:12Speaker 1: need to switch anything up? This is you know, let's
- 8:14Speaker 1: just be a little aware of Parker on the outside
- 8:16Speaker 1: with with the shots to him. But otherwise let's get
- 8:18Speaker 1: up in their face. Let's try to make them uncover
- 8:20Speaker 1: quick and and and try to allow our pressure to
- 8:23Speaker 1: get to Mac. Right, Yeah, I would. I would do
- 8:25Speaker 1: the same thing. I mean, I'd play man, you know,
- 8:28Speaker 1: with the mindset that you know, from what we hear
- 8:30Speaker 1: on our scouting report, these aren't guys that can get open,
- 8:33Speaker 1: you know. You know, um, so let's let's just stick
- 8:37Speaker 1: to man and put the pressure on and and uh
- 8:41Speaker 1: make Mac Jones deal with it. Make them show us
- 8:43Speaker 1: something new, you know, I mean, you did it last year,
- 8:45Speaker 1: you bleit. Some of us and I'm sure the Patriots
- 8:47Speaker 1: expecting that. Well, they play a man, I mean, that's
- 8:49Speaker 1: what they do. So I would be surprised if, you know,
- 8:52Speaker 1: not only i'd be surprised if they changed completely what
- 8:55Speaker 1: they did against anybody, but certainly against the Patriots is
- 8:58Speaker 1: not a team that you necessarily have to do something different.
- 9:01Speaker 1: So so now, Bill did say that they're very game
- 9:03Speaker 1: plan oriented, so they'll change some stuff up. Um, but
- 9:07Speaker 1: I mean I expect to see Zavi and Howard playing manage.
- 9:11Speaker 1: So you're the Patriots, I mean we're we're idiots compared
- 9:14Speaker 1: to you know, the people that are uh coaching the Patriots.
- 9:17Speaker 1: You know, so they know that too. So now, well
- 9:20Speaker 1: how do you counter that? Knowing that you know Mac
- 9:23Speaker 1: is you need to get it out of his hands quick.
- 9:25Speaker 1: You need to establish the run. I know that's boring
- 9:28Speaker 1: for both of those things to happen. What concerns me
- 9:30Speaker 1: the most about this game is the offensive line. You
- 9:32Speaker 1: got it and you got it. If they can't protect him,
- 9:35Speaker 1: like yeah, yeah, neither one of those things two things
- 9:39Speaker 1: that you mentioned are gonna be. They can't block for
- 9:41Speaker 1: the run or protect you know, you got it. And
- 9:43Speaker 1: I think the role of whether it's J. J. Taylor
- 9:45Speaker 1: or maj Stevenson, you know, being that guy next to
- 9:48Speaker 1: Mac and picking up blitzes, and that's going to be
- 9:51Speaker 1: critically important. Um. But I think, you know, Bill kind
- 9:55Speaker 1: of he was talking about Miami and other teams in
- 9:59Speaker 1: general when he said, you know, you know, when your
- 10:01Speaker 1: game play, you want to get the ball in the
- 10:03Speaker 1: hands of your playmakers, you know, get it in their
- 10:05Speaker 1: hands as often as possible. I think that's the same
- 10:08Speaker 1: thing here with the Patriots. Now who are those playmakers,
- 10:11Speaker 1: I don't know, but you got to get it out
- 10:12Speaker 1: of Max hands and into somebody else's hands as quickly
- 10:15Speaker 1: as possible. Yeah, because the longer Mac has it in
- 10:18Speaker 1: his hands, I think bad things will happen. Yeah, I
- 10:23Speaker 1: mean a couple of things. Um, you know, Miami was
- 10:25Speaker 1: number one with deep defensive backblitz is too, so I mean,
- 10:28Speaker 1: I just think it all feeds into this offensive line
- 10:31Speaker 1: and they're gonna be sending guys yea from all different
- 10:33Speaker 1: play gonna try to confuse the Patriots and if the
- 10:35Speaker 1: communication is off, Yeah, I think that they're going to
- 10:38Speaker 1: be in trouble. You know. In regards to the man stuff,
- 10:41Speaker 1: I'd look to El Agalore, because I think that he's
- 10:44Speaker 1: got a little bit more freedom perhaps now than having
- 10:46Speaker 1: to be that outside presence that that Parker will be.
- 10:49Speaker 1: So if anything is different, I think maybe that's something
- 10:52Speaker 1: you could look to, is is can we move Agilore
- 10:53Speaker 1: around a little bit, try to get and I think
- 10:56Speaker 1: it certainly wasn't the summer. I thought he was really good,
- 11:00Speaker 1: you know, releasing off the line, getting into his route.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Yeah again, you're I mean, we don't know this. We're
- 11:05Speaker 1: not trying to pretend that we know more about football.
- 11:07Speaker 1: But I thought he looked like he was a guy
- 11:09Speaker 1: who who could uncover against man coverage better than the
- 11:13Speaker 1: other receiver consistent. And Mac has to be decisive. He's
- 11:19Speaker 1: got to get the ball. I'm concerned about most. Mac
- 11:22Speaker 1: like he's got to assume when the guy makes the break,
- 11:25Speaker 1: he is going to uncover. And if he doesn't and
- 11:28Speaker 1: it gets picked, that's not Max's fall, you know. But
- 11:31Speaker 1: he's got to assume that the guy is going to
- 11:33Speaker 1: get the step on the break and get rid of
- 11:36Speaker 1: the ball. Yeah, don't wait, you know, you just you
- 11:39Speaker 1: gotta live with it, you know, do you think there's
- 11:41Speaker 1: anything to um? You know, Mac being from Florida, and maybe,
- 11:45Speaker 1: you know, maybe your expectation for him is a little
- 11:47Speaker 1: bit like he should kind of be a little bit
- 11:49Speaker 1: more comfortable in this, Like I like, if we're gonna
- 11:51Speaker 1: kill him for looking cold up in Buffalo, like can
- 11:54Speaker 1: maybe we like? Can we Is there any kind of
- 11:56Speaker 1: like feeling of well, he should be used to playing.
- 11:59Speaker 1: I don't, I don't care. I think every quarterback should.
- 12:01Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think. Yeah, I think he's gonna
- 12:04Speaker 1: be fine in the weather. I just came back from
- 12:05Speaker 1: the South. It was very, very humid playing in Alabama.
- 12:08Speaker 1: I'm sure it was the same as playing in Miami.
- 12:10Speaker 1: It's it's gonna be hot, all right, so let's do it.
- 12:11Speaker 1: I don't think I worry. I don't worry about the
- 12:13Speaker 1: quarterback and heat. I mean, I know the Patriots lost
- 12:16Speaker 1: games when Brady was there and heat, but I don't
- 12:18Speaker 1: think it was because Brady was too hot. Um a
- 12:20Speaker 1: little Yeah. Belichick just announced the captains. Mccordy, Wise, Bentley, Andrews,
- 12:27Speaker 1: and Mac. There you go, Mac Jones, Yeah, mccordy, Yeah,
- 12:33Speaker 1: why Bentley, and Andrew and Max So not Matthew Slater
- 12:38Speaker 1: um unless he left that out. I'm just getting is
- 12:43Speaker 1: a captain. I just saw it come through from Neil
- 12:45Speaker 1: Okay Slater too. Okay, So Mac Jones is in fact
- 12:49Speaker 1: now a captain Bentley, as you said yesterday, Deuce, you
- 12:52Speaker 1: expected him to be and Dietrich wise, is this the
- 12:55Speaker 1: first time he's been a captain? I believe so, I
- 12:57Speaker 1: believe so. I'm um, you know, interesting coming off of
- 13:00Speaker 1: his involvement in the Panthers scrub. Outside of that one thing, though,
- 13:05Speaker 1: he's a really great guy. Oh yeah, no, I wasn't.
- 13:08Speaker 1: I whatever. Years he's in my top five ever. He's
- 13:12Speaker 1: so great, you know, guys. Yeah, he's great, great, Yeah yeah,
- 13:17Speaker 1: um yeah, you know. I'm communicating with Alex so I'm
- 13:19Speaker 1: gonna have her call in. She'll give us an upgrade. Okay, update, update, upgrade,
- 13:24Speaker 1: upgrad upgrade. Jesus, not cool, Deuce. I'm the center of
- 13:32Speaker 1: the number. So I would you know, we all assume
- 13:35Speaker 1: that they wouldn't make this announcement before the game, and
- 13:38Speaker 1: so Bill Belichick address the media today and use that
- 13:41Speaker 1: opportunity to announce the captives. I think that's good. Mac
- 13:44Speaker 1: is a cap to maximize that bank for the buck there. Yeah,
- 13:48Speaker 1: just so a press conference like we can't get prepared
- 13:52Speaker 1: for it. I know there it is. I thought a
- 13:56Speaker 1: couple of years ago I wrote it like I announced it.
- 13:58Speaker 1: It was like something I wrote announced. Well, normally they
- 14:00Speaker 1: they've done that many times. They give it to us
- 14:02Speaker 1: in advance so that we can get correct, social ready
- 14:05Speaker 1: with graphics and all that stuff. And so now we're scrambling. Yep,
- 14:09Speaker 1: throw some pictures together. Captain, Captain, good group. Though I'm
- 14:13Speaker 1: happy happy Mac got it. I think he had to
- 14:15Speaker 1: know that they'd be like a major red flag if
- 14:18Speaker 1: you listen to Captain after what he did, you know
- 14:20Speaker 1: this offseason, just putting stuff together. And uh, you know Bentley,
- 14:24Speaker 1: other guys have talked about him and his leadership, and
- 14:27Speaker 1: you know, I think, uh, he's gotten some good experience
- 14:29Speaker 1: the last couple of years, and I think he had
- 14:31Speaker 1: a little bit more of a better year last year.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Some different things they did with him, putting him on
- 14:35Speaker 1: the edge a little bit in camp this summer. Maybe
- 14:37Speaker 1: that'll are you surprised that, like, um, why's got it over? Guy?
- 14:42Speaker 1: For example, I would say, gotcha, gotcha. I figured one
- 14:46Speaker 1: of those two they played nice with the team, so
- 14:48Speaker 1: I figured one of those two was gonna have I
- 14:49Speaker 1: feel I feel like Devon is more um silent, like
- 14:56Speaker 1: he leads by example, but he's not like a super
- 14:58Speaker 1: vocal yep. But Laurence Guy, I think, you know, he
- 15:01Speaker 1: would have been a great UM, a great person. He's
- 15:04Speaker 1: so vocal, really great speaker. UM. But I think Devona
- 15:07Speaker 1: is more so he won last year silent. Who's that guy, Guy?
- 15:11Speaker 1: I'm sure. And then on offense, it's just too it's
- 15:17Speaker 1: just back in David Andrews, Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. But
- 15:22Speaker 1: just to go back to that point though, that wise
- 15:24Speaker 1: thing in camp, I mean, I wasn't actually saying that
- 15:26Speaker 1: as a negative. I mean I felt like he kind
- 15:29Speaker 1: of carried the presence of that ain't gonna fly around here,
- 15:32Speaker 1: like when he went walking over a kind of point
- 15:34Speaker 1: in his big gangly arm at them, and you know
- 15:37Speaker 1: twice I think he was. He was in the mix
- 15:39Speaker 1: on both those days. So I didn't I mean, I
- 15:42Speaker 1: wasn't saying it to be like, oh, he you know,
- 15:44Speaker 1: I think he was showing leadership and that those are
- 15:45Speaker 1: tough moments, which, by the way, I saw on Pro
- 15:49Speaker 1: Football Talk this morning talking about joint practices and the
- 15:53Speaker 1: NFL maybe wanting to try to get involved in discipline
- 15:58Speaker 1: during those joint practices, which of course we saw plenty
- 16:02Speaker 1: of potential discipline captain. So he's one that is it flopped,
- 16:07Speaker 1: he's out, He's in the last year of his deal.
- 16:09Speaker 1: It's really kind of easy to forecast if you do
- 16:12Speaker 1: a little, a little dive and John Burton Award winner,
- 16:18Speaker 1: he signs, yeah, well, follow the leader. My question with
- 16:25Speaker 1: him is is how much is he involved early down
- 16:27Speaker 1: and is it Christian Barmore taking over for him? I
- 16:29Speaker 1: thought that was something that kind of happened over the
- 16:31Speaker 1: course of the summer that you saw Dietrich wise of that, right,
- 16:33Speaker 1: the events events spot early on, and Barmore started to
- 16:36Speaker 1: get into it a little bit. So we'll see, we'll
- 16:38Speaker 1: see how they put it together. I think, you know,
- 16:40Speaker 1: Dietrich WI has been around for a while. Yeah, but
- 16:43Speaker 1: Barmore usually lines up more in the middle though, right well,
- 16:46Speaker 1: in the passing down stuff. But yeah, I mean they
- 16:48Speaker 1: you know, just in the early downs. I mean that
- 16:49Speaker 1: was you know, the big thing I thought of Barmore.
- 16:52Speaker 1: If he's going to be a breakout star, I don't
- 16:54Speaker 1: think he can just be a third down situational interior
- 16:57Speaker 1: pass rusher. He needs to be a three down player.
- 16:59Speaker 1: And you know, even when you talk about this week
- 17:02Speaker 1: of getting too a off schedule, let's get a guy
- 17:05Speaker 1: who can cause some disruption early on if they try
- 17:07Speaker 1: to run that urpo stuff and get in the backfield
- 17:09Speaker 1: and you know, attack that mesh point, which is, you know,
- 17:12Speaker 1: supposedly what you're supposed to do. I don't I don't
- 17:14Speaker 1: know how much of that the Patriots we're doing last time,
- 17:16Speaker 1: but you know, I just think at Barmore. If you
- 17:18Speaker 1: really want to feel great about Barmore, he needs to
- 17:21Speaker 1: play every down. You don't see Richard Seymour coming in
- 17:23Speaker 1: as a rookie just you know, playing situationally, he's every
- 17:26Speaker 1: down player. If you you need impact every down players,
- 17:28Speaker 1: give him the chance to. That's love to see Barmore
- 17:31Speaker 1: that the speed that's been added to the defense this
- 17:35Speaker 1: year does help disrupt to a like the guys like
- 17:37Speaker 1: Mac Wilson Senior, Raequa McMillan. I don't know how much
- 17:39Speaker 1: they're gonna play, but I think that no, it's a
- 17:42Speaker 1: good question. Then playing I think, you know, could be
- 17:45Speaker 1: the difference that we didn't see last year. Yeah, that's
- 17:47Speaker 1: that's what I found myself wondering thinking about the previews,
- 17:49Speaker 1: like it's fine on paper that it looks like you
- 17:51Speaker 1: got some speed, and I think, like how you just
- 17:54Speaker 1: said it was kind of how my brain went. It
- 17:55Speaker 1: is like, well, you got these guys, but how are
- 17:57Speaker 1: they going to play? You know? What I mean is
- 17:59Speaker 1: the same thing will Wilson of. Is he going to
- 18:02Speaker 1: just be kind of an all right, it's third and eighteen.
- 18:04Speaker 1: This is when Mack Wilson gets to be out there,
- 18:06Speaker 1: like or is he going to be a significant second plan? Right?
- 18:09Speaker 1: So that that's where the difference lies, and if they
- 18:11Speaker 1: could get him in on that, Like, I think he'll
- 18:12Speaker 1: be a sub package guy, and in a game like this,
- 18:15Speaker 1: I think you'll see probably more of him than than
- 18:18Speaker 1: the others because of all the speed they have on
- 18:21Speaker 1: the edges. You you you can't have Gilanni to Bay
- 18:25Speaker 1: out there trying to chase these guys underneath where he
- 18:29Speaker 1: moastered into the flat, or chase chase Edmonds into the flat.
- 18:33Speaker 1: He just doesn't have that kind of athleticism I think
- 18:37Speaker 1: Wilson might. Now he's small, so you can't have him
- 18:42Speaker 1: out there all the time either, because now they can
- 18:44Speaker 1: line up and just run it at you. And that's
- 18:46Speaker 1: a problem. And that's what I think Miami's trying to
- 18:48Speaker 1: do is dictate what you put on the field based
- 18:51Speaker 1: on what they have, which is, you know, a lot
- 18:53Speaker 1: of athleticism. Yeah, well, I mean, I I just love
- 18:56Speaker 1: to dare him to hand it off, like I mean,
- 18:58Speaker 1: And I know that those guys have some really good
- 19:01Speaker 1: speed too. But anytime I think the ball is not
- 19:04Speaker 1: going towards Tyree Killer Jalen Waddle, it's it's probably an
- 19:06Speaker 1: initial win at least for the Patriots defense. And then,
- 19:09Speaker 1: as we said yesterday, I can't got to tackle it.
- 19:12Speaker 1: I really, I can't wait. As as unsure as I
- 19:15Speaker 1: am about what I'm gonna watch, I can't wait to
- 19:17Speaker 1: see it. I'm with you. Yeah, I love the start
- 19:20Speaker 1: of the season. That's fun. You know, there's such an
- 19:22Speaker 1: element of unpredictability of two football teams playing against each other.
- 19:25Speaker 1: We all have our storylines and who we think is
- 19:27Speaker 1: good and what's going to happen. But we got the
- 19:29Speaker 1: Bills playing. You never know how it's gonna unfold, and
- 19:34Speaker 1: you know, so much of this stuff ends up not
- 19:37Speaker 1: really you know, Like and that's the part when Bill
- 19:39Speaker 1: says the extension of the preseason that I think is accurate.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Like how many times do you identify three or four
- 19:45Speaker 1: teams in September and then by the time December rolls
- 19:47Speaker 1: around you're like, ah, they don't look as good as
- 19:49Speaker 1: they did. Or the opposite, right, you know, that team
- 19:51Speaker 1: that looked like they were in shambles looks like, you know,
- 19:54Speaker 1: they got it all together. And you know, remember how
- 19:56Speaker 1: bad Kansas City was last year, right, I remember I
- 20:00Speaker 1: said they wouldn't make the playoffs, but you said, I'll
- 20:01Speaker 1: give you credit. You said they wouldn't make the playoffs
- 20:03Speaker 1: before the season started, right, But remember how bad they
- 20:06Speaker 1: looked coming out of No. It looked like, look at me, right,
- 20:08Speaker 1: you looked like a champ. Right. But by the time
- 20:10Speaker 1: the season rolled around, I mean unfolded, they were as
- 20:14Speaker 1: good as anybody and really kind of choked away another
- 20:17Speaker 1: trip to the Super Bowl. I mean they had a
- 20:19Speaker 1: two school lead in the fourth quarter at home to
- 20:21Speaker 1: the Bengals and choked. Ye. So if you had said,
- 20:25Speaker 1: you know, in early October, the Chiefs not being worried
- 20:28Speaker 1: about they're rolling. No, their offense was in transition. The
- 20:32Speaker 1: defense couldn't stop anybody. They looked like a mess, Mahomes
- 20:35Speaker 1: was throwing picks, right, So you never know, you don't.
- 20:38Speaker 1: You never know how it's going to unfold. Ye like Buffalo.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Everybody's picking Buffalo, and I think with good reason. I
- 20:44Speaker 1: think they're the best team in football. But they could.
- 20:46Speaker 1: I mean, is anybody gonna be surprised if they lose
- 20:48Speaker 1: tomorrow night? Nope? You know, Opening Night at LA good team.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Although Stafford's a little banged up, right, No, he's fine,
- 20:56Speaker 1: he's fine. I thought he had a shoulder thing. He
- 20:58Speaker 1: has an elbow thing. But it's fine. It worked itself out. Okay, Now,
- 21:02Speaker 1: maybe they're lying. It sounds like Paul talking about his shoulder.
- 21:04Speaker 1: It's fine. Maybe they're lying, but he had uh what
- 21:09Speaker 1: he said was the heaviest throwing day of camp. Um,
- 21:12Speaker 1: you know, toward sort of towards the end, I think
- 21:15Speaker 1: before the third preseason game, which he didn't play in
- 21:18Speaker 1: the preseason games, and he deemed it. So, I mean,
- 21:22Speaker 1: they could be lying. But oh, it's on the Amazon right,
- 21:27Speaker 1: No Prime, it's on NBC, right, it better be otherwise
- 21:34Speaker 1: I can't like, I'm not I'm not doing that. Okay,
- 21:38Speaker 1: check my some reason. I thought I saw a prime
- 21:40Speaker 1: with that. But maybe not the open okay, good Tarko
- 21:45Speaker 1: Collinsworth and Melissa's stark. I see that's a drop back
- 21:48Speaker 1: and miss Ale Michael's already Oh I thought you me
- 21:50Speaker 1: Melissa's stark. I don't block your ears. I don't really care.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Oh my god? Was that real or a sound effect
- 22:06Speaker 1: that was real? Oh? I think it was last week
- 22:09Speaker 1: Matt played one of your sound effects in it like
- 22:11Speaker 1: I was like that one that one and I both
- 22:14Speaker 1: looked over. It sounded so real, so good, sounds like ABC,
- 22:21Speaker 1: sounds like air coming out of a tire. And speaking
- 22:23Speaker 1: of tires, Bridge Stone is the official tire of the
- 22:27Speaker 1: New England Patriots and Proud's partner with Sullivan Tire, New
- 22:31Speaker 1: England's headquarters for quality bridge Stone Tires. Visit Sullivan Tire
- 22:36Speaker 1: dot com to find a location near you. Well done,
- 22:40Speaker 1: it's professional. Yeah yeah, so it's now who it's it's
- 22:44Speaker 1: Mike Arico, Collinsworth and Melissa's Starr. Yeah yeah, you know,
- 22:48Speaker 1: IL went to where's al He's on the hes on
- 22:52Speaker 1: the streaming street right Thursday night line up? Yeah, now
- 22:56Speaker 1: here's where I'll make you feel better. I don't really
- 22:58Speaker 1: care who they played by play, I just watched the games.
- 23:01Speaker 1: I don't really Yeah, I know who I'll be listening to.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Who will you be listening to? Matt la panic. That's
- 23:09Speaker 1: only that's not tomorrow night. That's only right, that's only
- 23:12Speaker 1: for the Patriots games. And we uh we have to
- 23:15Speaker 1: go and uh and speak in a couple of weeks. Yeah,
- 23:17Speaker 1: that's exciting. They wanted us. Good job by Fred, our
- 23:20Speaker 1: agent making sure that food was part of that's all.
- 23:22Speaker 1: That's all. That's all. We got writers there young as
- 23:24Speaker 1: there's cookies and uh hot dogs. All right, what else?
- 23:30Speaker 1: What else we have to talk about before we turn
- 23:32Speaker 1: it over to the listeners. I think we set the
- 23:35Speaker 1: stage for Miami pretty good yesterday. Um. One minor thing
- 23:39Speaker 1: James ference was we had talked about when will they
- 23:43Speaker 1: do that? And I should have sort of thought about that.
- 23:46Speaker 1: I think the Tuesday before the game is when you
- 23:50Speaker 1: get the guaranteed salaries. So I think you have to
- 23:53Speaker 1: have fifty three guys on your roster. Okay, on that
- 23:56Speaker 1: day you have all the practice squads spots filled. So
- 23:59Speaker 1: I think that was the day. So now Ferns will
- 24:02Speaker 1: get like a regular game check as opposed to a
- 24:04Speaker 1: practice squad check. I don't know what his contract situation is.
- 24:08Speaker 1: I was thinking maybe if if Winn couldn't go, you
- 24:12Speaker 1: probably maybe put on when you at right tackle and
- 24:14Speaker 1: put Farrens at right guard. Maybe you could do that.
- 24:16Speaker 1: You know that might be you could do that. I mean,
- 24:19Speaker 1: I'm sure that you you mean, an offensive lineman was
- 24:23Speaker 1: almost one thousand percent going to get elevated, whether it's
- 24:27Speaker 1: the practice squad elevations that you can use on offensive
- 24:31Speaker 1: lineman or this because you just you need offensive lineman.
- 24:36Speaker 1: I mean, that's always the way they do. I think
- 24:38Speaker 1: you want nine. I mean he's knowing. I mean he's
- 24:40Speaker 1: like the only one who's played a game at guard
- 24:42Speaker 1: or played any you know, in the backup interior guys.
- 24:45Speaker 1: I mean it's him, Hines, Russy and Murray. I mean
- 24:49Speaker 1: he's the only one who's So you wouldn't put Harran
- 24:53Speaker 1: at right tackle and just leave a whin you alone.
- 24:55Speaker 1: You'd rather have Farrens at right guard and have a way.
- 24:58Speaker 1: That's a good that's a good debate. It's a good debate.
- 25:00Speaker 1: I don't like either option, no as I am want
- 25:03Speaker 1: to do. I worry about things, but um I think
- 25:05Speaker 1: Farrens is okay at center. But yeah, I feel better
- 25:10Speaker 1: about Farrens at center. But you know, we're not saying
- 25:12Speaker 1: that Win's not gonna play. Oh, I think he will play. Yeah,
- 25:15Speaker 1: and we'll get our first injury report, well, not injury report,
- 25:19Speaker 1: practice participation report today around four o'clock. Correct, So I
- 25:24Speaker 1: have one more, one more, just area I haven't heard
- 25:27Speaker 1: really discussed, and I thought I thought it was kind
- 25:29Speaker 1: of interesting. Mike McDaniel's never called plays before, is that
- 25:34Speaker 1: you know significant? I mean, he's you know, never been
- 25:36Speaker 1: a head coach before, never been a head coach. Yes,
- 25:38Speaker 1: I think it's very interesting, how you know. I mean,
- 25:41Speaker 1: I know our thing is a separate I'm not trying
- 25:43Speaker 1: to be like who because you would have done that.
- 25:48Speaker 1: You would have done that if that's what you were
- 25:49Speaker 1: trying to do. But I think it's that guy has Yeah,
- 25:54Speaker 1: the guy has no experience. Yeah, that has to be
- 25:56Speaker 1: a fact. I think it's just interesting and I don't
- 25:58Speaker 1: think I've really heard any any mention of that. And
- 26:00Speaker 1: obviously people here are going crazy about play calling, but
- 26:02Speaker 1: you know, it's just I've never done it and trying
- 26:04Speaker 1: to be coach. He might be two years and done,
- 26:07Speaker 1: but he seems to have the right mindset for the
- 26:12Speaker 1: you know, a guy coming in in a situation like
- 26:15Speaker 1: that where you know, the whole organization was turned upside
- 26:18Speaker 1: down and everything. Like, he seems to be a relaxed
- 26:21Speaker 1: kind of guy. You know, like if he gets fired
- 26:24Speaker 1: after two years, he'll get another gentle if you ask, well,
- 26:28Speaker 1: maybe baby, Yeah, what are you saying now? Oh my god? No, No,
- 26:36Speaker 1: I'm not the only one that thinks he sounds baked
- 26:38Speaker 1: half the time. No, he just sounds different than Dan Campbell.
- 26:41Speaker 1: You know, he's a different kind of cat. I feel
- 26:44Speaker 1: like having the mindset and being likable is only twenty
- 26:50Speaker 1: five percent of the battle. I think that when he's
- 26:52Speaker 1: in this game and having to make those decisions clock management.
- 26:56Speaker 1: I mean, I've seen you can tell when there's a
- 26:58Speaker 1: new head coach out in the field. I mean I
- 27:00Speaker 1: saw that for myself. Unfortunately when Virginia Tech was playing.
- 27:04Speaker 1: But yes, terrible they lost, so terrible. Did you hear
- 27:09Speaker 1: they lost the team though? Right? Ultimately, Oh my gosh,
- 27:11Speaker 1: it was terrible football team exactly and exactly the Virginia
- 27:14Speaker 1: Tech guys on the Commanders were were trolled by. Yeah,
- 27:18Speaker 1: I saw that. I saw that ODU shirts, No Walkers um,
- 27:23Speaker 1: but yeah, I think that in addition to play calling,
- 27:25Speaker 1: clock management, I mean, just so things that Bill Belichick
- 27:30Speaker 1: has so much experience in, like he's going to be
- 27:34Speaker 1: figuring out all out as he goes this year. Yeah,
- 27:36Speaker 1: I think that has to be a factor. I agree
- 27:38Speaker 1: with Man. And that's like, you know, people say Bill
- 27:40Speaker 1: is playing chess other you know, it's kind of true.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Like when you look at the chess masters, like I'm
- 27:46Speaker 1: really talking about the game of chess, one of the
- 27:48Speaker 1: reasons why they are masters is because they've seen every
- 27:51Speaker 1: move before. There's a certain pattern on the on the board.
- 27:55Speaker 1: There's only so many moves you can do, and they
- 27:57Speaker 1: know every move that's ever been done. And that's kind
- 28:01Speaker 1: of like Bill with football. He's been in every situation.
- 28:04Speaker 1: So like you're saying, Tom, clock management is situational management.
- 28:09Speaker 1: It's like, Okay, what's the situation, you know, and then
- 28:12Speaker 1: you factor in what is the clock? Say what our
- 28:14Speaker 1: time out? It's what you know, what's the score, you know,
- 28:16Speaker 1: position of the field. He's been in every situation, you know.
- 28:20Speaker 1: But at the same time, so is Andy Reid. Yeah,
- 28:24Speaker 1: and he's terrible at it, true, you know what I mean.
- 28:29Speaker 1: And Mike tells you, because that's my little pet thing.
- 28:32Speaker 1: I like clock management. And Andy Reid is every bit
- 28:36Speaker 1: as successful as a head coach, but he's not every bit.
- 28:38Speaker 1: He's comparable to Bill Belichick, but he can't he can't
- 28:41Speaker 1: handle it. But do you think one of the problems
- 28:43Speaker 1: with Andy Reid is that he always calls plays too?
- 28:45Speaker 1: Maybe you know, maybe he's personally don't think it's that hard,
- 28:49Speaker 1: but some people have trouble. I think I think with Bill,
- 28:52Speaker 1: you know, like having coordinators do that, and he can
- 28:55Speaker 1: always be thinking about the next play and the next situation.
- 28:58Speaker 1: He doesn't have to be focused on okay, in the past,
- 29:02Speaker 1: in the past he might have to be worried about
- 29:03Speaker 1: that son. I know, yeah, I know yeah, And I
- 29:06Speaker 1: mean I guess too. Michael McDaniel has a model of
- 29:09Speaker 1: Kyle Shanahan, who managed those roles and you know, was
- 29:12Speaker 1: able to buy I just think on paper, it's hard.
- 29:14Speaker 1: I mean, you're scratching your head thinking, jeez, how's mappatrics
- 29:16Speaker 1: are gonna call plays and coach the offensive Linewell, It's like, well,
- 29:19Speaker 1: how are you gonna call offensive plays? And and it's
- 29:21Speaker 1: the whole team. I worry less about that I worry
- 29:24Speaker 1: more about his just his overall lack of experience. And
- 29:27Speaker 1: you know, to the way Tamara and Fred just explained,
- 29:29Speaker 1: there are going to be situations that come up that
- 29:32Speaker 1: I'm just by definition he's never experienced. And that doesn't
- 29:37Speaker 1: mean he can't do what doesn't mean, you know, first
- 29:38Speaker 1: time coaches can't win games, of course they can. But
- 29:42Speaker 1: how he handles the two minute warning. You know, maybe
- 29:46Speaker 1: you know a situation at the end of the first
- 29:47Speaker 1: half where you know you gotta tea maybe they have
- 29:49Speaker 1: them backed up there and long with like three minutes left,
- 29:52Speaker 1: do you call the time out, save yourself a minute?
- 29:55Speaker 1: You know, you know, little little subtle things like that.
- 29:59Speaker 1: He's never experienced any of that. I think calling plays
- 30:03Speaker 1: for offensive coaches, I think is I'm sure that in
- 30:06Speaker 1: his mind he's called plays in games, like even though
- 30:09Speaker 1: Shanahan was the guy who called the plays, Like, I
- 30:11Speaker 1: worry less about that element as I do the stuff
- 30:14Speaker 1: that you guys are talking about with situations. Yeah, I
- 30:17Speaker 1: think you can really butcher that if you're worry too
- 30:19Speaker 1: much about calling plays. Yeah, and you're not necessarily keeping
- 30:22Speaker 1: both of those things in mind. Yeah, And I think,
- 30:24Speaker 1: like I mean to friend's point. I think it's one
- 30:25Speaker 1: thing too to recognize what's going on and to know
- 30:30Speaker 1: what the counter to that is, but it's also another
- 30:33Speaker 1: to get your team to execute that counter, you know.
- 30:35Speaker 1: And so you know, that's what I wonder with the
- 30:37Speaker 1: Patriots of like, all right, are they going to be
- 30:38Speaker 1: able to counter what the Dolphins do? But I think
- 30:40Speaker 1: that's it's an interesting question of how much are the
- 30:43Speaker 1: Patriots going to kind of bust out that might take
- 30:45Speaker 1: Mike McDaniel. He has to process it a little bit.
- 30:48Speaker 1: They have to figure out what that's what. If I
- 30:50Speaker 1: were a Dolphins guy, I'd be more worried about that,
- 30:52Speaker 1: because again, he's never done that. I'm the wide receiver's coach.
- 30:57Speaker 1: I just got to make sure my guys are up
- 30:59Speaker 1: to speak. I gotta make sure that I have my
- 31:00Speaker 1: guys ready or whatever. He wasn't and you know, technically
- 31:04Speaker 1: in San Francisco, you know whatever his running game coordinator was,
- 31:06Speaker 1: he the running game coordinator. Okay, So that's what you know.
- 31:09Speaker 1: His focus was was kind of singular as opposed to
- 31:12Speaker 1: now he has to worry about things like that. Oh,
- 31:16Speaker 1: I didn't expect Bill to play so much. Man, everybody's
- 31:19Speaker 1: been talking about they're going to be playing a lot
- 31:21Speaker 1: of his own. Now they come out of you know,
- 31:24Speaker 1: just dust their corners. Okay, Okay, maybe that's not the
- 31:26Speaker 1: best something that maybe catches him by surprise. How long
- 31:31Speaker 1: does that take him to adjust to it? And does
- 31:33Speaker 1: he adjust to it properly? Well? Continuing to run the
- 31:38Speaker 1: whole operation. Now, One thing I think that that's in
- 31:41Speaker 1: his favor. I think is he's not worried about the
- 31:44Speaker 1: whole thing because I think the defense is Boyers. Yeah,
- 31:47Speaker 1: you know, he's worried about offense and the team, not everything.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Bill might have to be more concerned with everything. Yeah, yeah.
- 31:55Speaker 1: And I just hope that the twist isn't that they're
- 31:56Speaker 1: going to run the Shanahan system against the guy who
- 31:59Speaker 1: comes from the Union system, because I don't think it'll
- 32:01Speaker 1: take them very long to figure out how to adjust
- 32:03Speaker 1: to what should we do against the What do you
- 32:05Speaker 1: think it helps the Patriots in that they? I mean,
- 32:08Speaker 1: like Bill was pretty detailed and how familiar he is
- 32:12Speaker 1: with the Dolphins defense and what they've done, what they're
- 32:15Speaker 1: going to do, and he could call out their plays,
- 32:18Speaker 1: just like he's sure that Josh Boyer could call out
- 32:20Speaker 1: the Patriots defensive sets. Do is that an advantage for Belichick?
- 32:24Speaker 1: Do you think? I mean, I go back to what
- 32:26Speaker 1: I just said, I think he can. There's it's one
- 32:28Speaker 1: thing to understand what they're doing, and it's another thing
- 32:31Speaker 1: being able to execute the counter to it and having
- 32:34Speaker 1: you know, because the counter to beat man defense is
- 32:37Speaker 1: having athletes that can get open and and and shake
- 32:39Speaker 1: away so that he can't you know, like, there's no
- 32:42Speaker 1: it's a lot harder to scheme up how to beat
- 32:44Speaker 1: that than to just have the athletes that can do it.
- 32:46Speaker 1: So I mean, I yeah, I mean I think that's
- 32:48Speaker 1: but yeah, that's the question. But it's just even even there,
- 32:51Speaker 1: there's factors like, Okay, so they're playing man, are they
- 32:54Speaker 1: pressing at the line, are they giving us space? Are
- 32:57Speaker 1: they giving you know, are they giving us the underneath stuff?
- 32:59Speaker 1: You know, A head coach or an offensive has to
- 33:03Speaker 1: see all of that, you know, and listen, guys coming
- 33:07Speaker 1: off the field, Hey, this is the way I'm being
- 33:08Speaker 1: play you know. This is just so much to it,
- 33:12Speaker 1: you know, And so the first year coach, this is
- 33:15Speaker 1: the first time he's doing at all. But I wonder
- 33:17Speaker 1: if Bill, if that's part of the thought process of
- 33:20Speaker 1: this is a new head coach, what can we do
- 33:23Speaker 1: to challenge him? What? You know, what are the hard things?
- 33:27Speaker 1: You know, not even just specifically attacking the team, the
- 33:29Speaker 1: schemes and the coach itself. The other advantage of having
- 33:33Speaker 1: a guy like Bill Belichick is this isn't the first
- 33:35Speaker 1: time he's gone up against the first like, so he's
- 33:38Speaker 1: got a whole binder full of information of going up
- 33:42Speaker 1: against what's worked, what hasn't worked, what you know, what
- 33:45Speaker 1: throws people Like what we were talking about yesterday, like,
- 33:48Speaker 1: you know, some of the guy that we played the
- 33:50Speaker 1: clip leading into the show, we had a call yesterday
- 33:53Speaker 1: tomorrow who was just like, you know, why am I
- 33:54Speaker 1: even watching? I'm just waiting to throw in the towel.
- 33:58Speaker 1: And we're like, well, you can make arguments for the
- 34:01Speaker 1: Patriots in this game. It's not like there's like no chance.
- 34:04Speaker 1: And these are some of the things that I think
- 34:06Speaker 1: work in their favor. Um, you know, in terms of
- 34:09Speaker 1: Bill that you know, not only you're facing a first year,
- 34:13Speaker 1: first time coach. They always talk about the schedule comes
- 34:18Speaker 1: out in late April or early May whenever it was.
- 34:21Speaker 1: They start work on Miami. Then yeah, like travel plans. Wow,
- 34:29Speaker 1: a little bit, a little bit of a turn. That
- 34:31Speaker 1: duce just took a heel turn right there. For like
- 34:33Speaker 1: WWE Dark Deuce, they always focus on those, you know,
- 34:38Speaker 1: that first month of the season, but in particular that
- 34:40Speaker 1: first game gets extra attention in terms of the game plan.
- 34:43Speaker 1: And now you're game playing against the guy who's never
- 34:47Speaker 1: had never been a head coach. I think there's some
- 34:49Speaker 1: advantages in there for Belichick. Now doesn't mean they're gonna
- 34:52Speaker 1: win the game, doesn't mean that they have no chance. Now,
- 34:55Speaker 1: on the other hand, first time head coach, what are
- 34:58Speaker 1: his tendencies? They didn't have any. That's what Bill said,
- 35:01Speaker 1: He doesn't have any yet, you know, that's the drawback. Yeah,
- 35:05Speaker 1: and plus it's I mean, I think what what made
- 35:07Speaker 1: Mike McDaniel, you know, a standout was kind of I mean,
- 35:11Speaker 1: I don't want to make it just about Deebo, Samuel
- 35:13Speaker 1: and and and all the different things that they did
- 35:15Speaker 1: with him, but I think it was his creativity, you know,
- 35:18Speaker 1: specifically with him, but you know generally as well. So
- 35:21Speaker 1: now he's got all these different toys to play with,
- 35:23Speaker 1: so you know, what, what does it look like? But
- 35:25Speaker 1: not really a kittle type I mean everything I've kind
- 35:27Speaker 1: of ready don't block he doesn't like him, yeah as much,
- 35:33Speaker 1: so some things to work around. But I mean, I mean,
- 35:35Speaker 1: if you if you no offensive football and you have
- 35:37Speaker 1: Tyree Killing and Waddle, I would guess you're gonna be
- 35:40Speaker 1: able to put some effect in place together. All Right,
- 35:43Speaker 1: that's it. You know, we'll get back to the zone
- 35:46Speaker 1: thing again. You know, people always accuse us of never
- 35:48Speaker 1: talking about football, you know, so so Mike brings up,
- 35:51Speaker 1: you know, the the Mike Asicky angle, and I think
- 35:55Speaker 1: that's that's relevant because they used to having George Kittle,
- 35:59Speaker 1: who was elite at both receiving and blocking, and part
- 36:04Speaker 1: of the problems of the Patriots have had, I think
- 36:06Speaker 1: in getting this this zone scheme sort of untracked is
- 36:11Speaker 1: and I think of that first running play in the
- 36:13Speaker 1: Raiders game. They threw a slant to Parker for like
- 36:16Speaker 1: eight yards, and then they had Jono Smith and Hunter
- 36:19Speaker 1: Henry lined up right on the hip of Trent Brown
- 36:24Speaker 1: blown up for like a four yard loss, you know.
- 36:27Speaker 1: And I thought back to that story that Karon Grigian
- 36:32Speaker 1: put together about a month ago about you know, talking
- 36:35Speaker 1: to Dante Scarnekia and him saying you know how well
- 36:38Speaker 1: they were able to run these plays back in eighteen
- 36:41Speaker 1: and you know when we had Gronk, right. I think
- 36:44Speaker 1: that's a key element to that outside zone scheme, is
- 36:47Speaker 1: having a dominant blocking tight end, you know, and one
- 36:51Speaker 1: that can do both, because if it's just a blocker, well,
- 36:54Speaker 1: now you're not playing pass. You know. Gronk was I
- 36:59Speaker 1: mean not given any secrets away. He was special. Yeah.
- 37:02Speaker 1: And he's a special talent. Yeah. And and Kittle was
- 37:06Speaker 1: a special talent. I'm not sure that Patriots have that,
- 37:08Speaker 1: and I'm not sure that Dolphins do. I think Mike
- 37:11Speaker 1: Kisiki is a comparable guy to Hunter Henry. Yeah, I
- 37:13Speaker 1: think they're a good player. I think Kisiki is a
- 37:15Speaker 1: good player, and I think Hunter Henry is a good player.
- 37:18Speaker 1: I don't think they're a lad all right, And I
- 37:20Speaker 1: wonder if that has something to do with the lack
- 37:22Speaker 1: of cohesion in the running game. Eight five five pasts
- 37:25Speaker 1: five hundred is the ace ticket. Hut Line web radio
- 37:28Speaker 1: at Patriots dot com is the email address. Let's turn
- 37:30Speaker 1: to the phones and the listeners will start with Patty
- 37:33Speaker 1: and agawam, what's up Patty, guys? Hey, Hey, hey, I
- 37:40Speaker 1: just had a quick question, and it's regarding the defense.
- 37:43Speaker 1: Guys think that we see, uh that they try and
- 37:45Speaker 1: match up Matt Dudon more on Austin Jackson than they
- 37:48Speaker 1: do on Toronto Armstead. I don't know. He's been playing
- 37:53Speaker 1: mostly on the defensive left side most of camp. I
- 37:55Speaker 1: mean they could, they could move them around, they switched
- 37:57Speaker 1: the strong side at all. I haven't really noticed that,
- 38:01Speaker 1: you know, as far as I've seen just as it's yeah,
- 38:04Speaker 1: I've seen him mostly on the left. I don't I
- 38:05Speaker 1: don't know how much it means, though, So that's a
- 38:09Speaker 1: that's a big I don't know, Patty. Sorry. So if
- 38:13Speaker 1: they do a bet or like why you ask you? No?
- 38:17Speaker 1: I think his point is you know yet, yeah, he's
- 38:19Speaker 1: your best pass rusher. Put him over the weaker of
- 38:21Speaker 1: the two tackles in protection. That makes sense. I don't
- 38:24Speaker 1: know if they do that, you know, yeah, right, I
- 38:27Speaker 1: think they'll move them around. It seems like a more
- 38:30Speaker 1: of a Patriots thing to do. You don't really lock
- 38:32Speaker 1: guys into one spat. Yeah, all right, Patty, thanks for
- 38:36Speaker 1: the call. Let's go to Todd, North Carolina. Hey, Todd, Hey, guys,
- 38:41Speaker 1: I think the key to this game for me is
- 38:43Speaker 1: to have some drives that are you know, not just
- 38:46Speaker 1: three and out and get them. I need need to
- 38:48Speaker 1: sustain him. And I think that the key to sustaining drives,
- 38:51Speaker 1: it's gonna be making those short passes and making them complete.
- 38:55Speaker 1: I don't know, I want to hear what you guys think.
- 38:56Speaker 1: It's the key for the offense to get going. Thanks guys,
- 38:59Speaker 1: pretty sure? Yeah, I agree. I mean I think run
- 39:01Speaker 1: the ball started with run the ball, like, let's find
- 39:03Speaker 1: if this team has any kind of running game that
- 39:05Speaker 1: can that can be plus. I mean you should. Harrison
- 39:08Speaker 1: Stevenson should be good, but I think he's right. As
- 39:10Speaker 1: far as the short passes, the guys open and open,
- 39:13Speaker 1: you're not gonna have all. Listen, if you're living on
- 39:15Speaker 1: third and long all all game, forget it, forget it.
- 39:18Speaker 1: You gotta you gotta be productive on first down, you know,
- 39:21Speaker 1: three or four yards at least. Um Otherwise, you know,
- 39:26Speaker 1: Miami's just gonna be able to dictate. You know, it's
- 39:29Speaker 1: gonna be really just head scratcher if they go out
- 39:32Speaker 1: there and it's like trying to do the wide zone
- 39:34Speaker 1: like again and it's not looking right. And let me
- 39:36Speaker 1: just talk about not inspiring confidence out of that. That
- 39:39Speaker 1: would be a recipe for for for not great start,
- 39:43Speaker 1: and I think that's what they need. I mean, I think, Paul,
- 39:45Speaker 1: we're probably on the same page of the Patriots need to,
- 39:48Speaker 1: you know, play a really good game. They need to
- 39:50Speaker 1: play a really good game. You don't think go ahead.
- 39:52Speaker 1: I think that they can't be one dimensional, Like it
- 39:54Speaker 1: can't be all reliant upon the passing game. I think
- 39:57Speaker 1: that the running game has to get going or vice versa.
- 40:00Speaker 1: It can't just be the running game and then not
- 40:02Speaker 1: able to get the ball to the receivers of the
- 40:04Speaker 1: tight ends. I think that both are gonna have to
- 40:06Speaker 1: be good. Everyone's gonna have to be good. Yeah, Like
- 40:08Speaker 1: so like you know, like if your Bill or Matt,
- 40:10Speaker 1: Patricia or whoever, you have to assume Miami knows we're
- 40:14Speaker 1: gonna try to think and dunk this. You know, we're
- 40:17Speaker 1: not gonna We're gonna try to get the ball out
- 40:19Speaker 1: of Max's hands. So maybe right away, you know, they
- 40:23Speaker 1: try one of those back shoulder phades just to loosen
- 40:27Speaker 1: things up, knowing that Miami's gonna be playing up to
- 40:30Speaker 1: take away that underneath stuff. You know, like that's where
- 40:33Speaker 1: the game of chess comes in and but if you
- 40:35Speaker 1: you know, what if you haven't incomplete on that, well,
- 40:38Speaker 1: now now it's second and ten, right, you know, so
- 40:41Speaker 1: that's way to convert on third down, speak productive on
- 40:44Speaker 1: first down, Fred, Right, So that's the that's the thing.
- 40:47Speaker 1: But maybe you have to take those early chances to
- 40:50Speaker 1: loosen Miami up, otherwise you're not even gonna be able
- 40:53Speaker 1: to be successful on the short stuff. Oh yeah, I
- 40:56Speaker 1: mean I like it, Fred, I mean I like you know,
- 40:57Speaker 1: we talked about get Aggalore line up on one of
- 41:00Speaker 1: the lower level, you know, cornerback depth out of the
- 41:03Speaker 1: slot and send them up the seaman. Just no, just no,
- 41:07Speaker 1: I no ice. Fine, let's go to Noah. John was
- 41:12Speaker 1: down in Miami. Hey John, how do you everybody a
- 41:16Speaker 1: long time listener to the podcast? First time calling in?
- 41:20Speaker 1: Thank you of course. Very quickly, I have to say
- 41:24Speaker 1: Paul appeared on Stilac and Bertrand a couple of weeks ago,
- 41:28Speaker 1: and I feel like it's just a piece of audio
- 41:33Speaker 1: that should be played in radio media courses. You gave
- 41:37Speaker 1: them a great fifthy pieces to use while so I'm
- 41:41Speaker 1: not revealing too much, and they definitely tried to get
- 41:43Speaker 1: you to say some uncrediting, like discrediting stuff, and you
- 41:47Speaker 1: didn't and you didn't, you didn't bite, So two thumbs
- 41:50Speaker 1: up on that, so well, thanks John, and my keycards
- 41:53Speaker 1: still works, so obviously I didn't do anything too out
- 41:55Speaker 1: of bounds. Now, I definitely, I definitely think that Paul's
- 41:59Speaker 1: as part of that show the Felger in the mash.
- 42:03Speaker 1: That's uh, he's talking about a different show when I
- 42:05Speaker 1: was on with Zoe and Beatle during camp. But oh,
- 42:08Speaker 1: that's easy. Felgar in mass later today, Yeah, okay, what
- 42:11Speaker 1: time Paul? Four to five? Four to five? And working
- 42:17Speaker 1: in media myself, I feel like it's um part of
- 42:19Speaker 1: your job to give other outlets kind of something to
- 42:24Speaker 1: use and not necessarily be sunshine all the time. So
- 42:27Speaker 1: two thumbs up. I'm asked. And real reason why I'm
- 42:30Speaker 1: calling in today though, is because I know a lot
- 42:33Speaker 1: of people are super trepidacious about the season blah blah blah.
- 42:36Speaker 1: I get it. I'm super excited in general just because
- 42:40Speaker 1: football is back and I'm going to the game this Sunday.
- 42:43Speaker 1: I live in Miami, Nice, I'm bringing somebody on a
- 42:47Speaker 1: date who's never been to an American football game before,
- 42:51Speaker 1: and we're doing the full tailgate situation. Do Patriots fans
- 42:56Speaker 1: who go to Miami games go to a certain section
- 43:00Speaker 1: in or park somewhere and would anybody be willing to
- 43:03Speaker 1: let us be up next to Yeah, I'm sure they do.
- 43:08Speaker 1: Here's what you should do. Yeah, go on Patriots dot
- 43:11Speaker 1: com into the fan zone section and then within that
- 43:14Speaker 1: there's the fan club registry type in Florida and find
- 43:18Speaker 1: the fan clubs that are in Miami and then email
- 43:21Speaker 1: the president and say, hey, I'm going to the game.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Do you guys are you guys doing anything you know
- 43:27Speaker 1: in the in the lot um and ask and you
- 43:30Speaker 1: know they'll tell you, like where they set up, where
- 43:32Speaker 1: they go. But go in Patriots dot com into the
- 43:35Speaker 1: fan club registry and find out who the clubs are.
- 43:39Speaker 1: There's the contact information for the club president and email
- 43:42Speaker 1: them in and you know, find out. You can check
- 43:45Speaker 1: Facebook too, there's all kinds of groups there that you know,
- 43:48Speaker 1: Barry runs, you know, a tailgating thing for away games.
- 43:52Speaker 1: So there's definitely find by the Patriots tailgate group on Facebook.
- 43:56Speaker 1: You go there and if there's any fans doing anything
- 43:59Speaker 1: for any given game, they posted on that page. Um,
- 44:04Speaker 1: so yeah, they do stuff the night before the day
- 44:08Speaker 1: of game. So absolutely checked out those resources and uh,
- 44:11Speaker 1: you'll you'll, you'll be able to get hooked up. Yeah,
- 44:13Speaker 1: they'll definitely be something going on down there. Probably probably
- 44:16Speaker 1: a couple of different things, I would guess. Awesome, perfect,
- 44:20Speaker 1: Thank y'all so much. Appreciate the info. And like I
- 44:23Speaker 1: said before, obviously lots of reasons be trepidacious. I don't care.
- 44:26Speaker 1: I'm super excited for the season and stoked to go
- 44:29Speaker 1: to the game. Have a great time at the game. Yeah,
- 44:31Speaker 1: that's awesome. Good, Yeah, that'll be fun. Makes some noise. Yeah,
- 44:35Speaker 1: there'll be a lot of Patriot Oh yeah, always a
- 44:37Speaker 1: lot of Patriots fans with the Miami game. There are
- 44:38Speaker 1: you know a lot of people from Florida transplant transplant,
- 44:42Speaker 1: and so when we drive the bus, you know, you
- 44:44Speaker 1: see a lot of Patriots fans. You also see a
- 44:46Speaker 1: lot of moons over Miami. You know. Um, but there's
- 44:50Speaker 1: a lot of Patriots fans that go to the Miami
- 44:52Speaker 1: You understand what you mean? Doesn't that mean? Oh you know,
- 44:54Speaker 1: oh yeah, Uh. Web radio at Patriots dot com is
- 44:58Speaker 1: the email Let's so let's get to some of these
- 45:03Speaker 1: emails that one's too long if you write it right.
- 45:06Speaker 1: If you write a long email, I usually don't read
- 45:08Speaker 1: it to the end because they take too long to read.
- 45:12Speaker 1: Ben is in Liverpool, England. Quickno, And I know a
- 45:15Speaker 1: lot of talk recently, if not all offseason, has been
- 45:18Speaker 1: about Mattie p and Joe Judge. But I want to know,
- 45:22Speaker 1: given how the D has looked down the stretch the
- 45:24Speaker 1: last few seasons, and also given the fact that we
- 45:27Speaker 1: still don't know who is steering the ship for the
- 45:30Speaker 1: D aside from Bill, do you have concerns about Mayo
- 45:33Speaker 1: and Steve Belichick heading into the season. I do myself,
- 45:38Speaker 1: and my concern is that Bill was already stretched too
- 45:41Speaker 1: thin last year holding their hands. He only has two hands,
- 45:45Speaker 1: so he can't hold everyone's on the sideline. Well, I think,
- 45:51Speaker 1: I mean, they've had a few years experience now, and
- 45:53Speaker 1: I think it's kind of obvious how they're doing it.
- 45:56Speaker 1: You can argue how well it's worked. There's been some
- 45:58Speaker 1: you know, some clunkiness and terms of personnel on the
- 46:01Speaker 1: field and mistakes of that kind of thing, but you know,
- 46:04Speaker 1: I mean, I think at this point you kind of
- 46:06Speaker 1: have to let if Steve Belichick is calling the place
- 46:08Speaker 1: he's been doing it for a few seasons now, Like
- 46:10Speaker 1: you have to allow I mean, I know he's a Belichick,
- 46:12Speaker 1: and you know, we can get into all that, but
- 46:14Speaker 1: like he's still a guy who's been around this team
- 46:16Speaker 1: for over a decade. He's been calling place for a
- 46:17Speaker 1: while now. I think this is the most challenging season
- 46:20Speaker 1: yet for him in Mayo because not only is Bill
- 46:22Speaker 1: going to have attention on the offense, they don't have
- 46:25Speaker 1: high tower Collins ven they don't have those veterans to
- 46:29Speaker 1: kind of be pseudo coaches in the locker room. Now.
- 46:32Speaker 1: They're trying to teach it to ray Kwa, McMillan and
- 46:34Speaker 1: mac Wilson. They're trying to get josh Ucha to hit
- 46:36Speaker 1: another level. They're trying to bring Anthony Jennings along. So
- 46:39Speaker 1: I think it's a hugely challenging year for them, But
- 46:43Speaker 1: I would hope that they were able to swim on
- 46:45Speaker 1: their own. I think so. I think, you know, I
- 46:47Speaker 1: think you gotta if you know, however you do it,
- 46:50Speaker 1: but you got if you if you have Steve and
- 46:52Speaker 1: Mayo running the defense, this is now what you're three
- 46:55Speaker 1: or four of that at least. I mean, yeah, you
- 46:57Speaker 1: gotta let him do it. You gotta let him do it.
- 46:59Speaker 1: I mean nineteen, you know, and I will say too,
- 47:01Speaker 1: like we talk a lot about the transition from Patricia
- 47:04Speaker 1: to Flores and the aggressiveness that Flores brought with the
- 47:07Speaker 1: defense in twenty eighteen, and I think I think Steve
- 47:10Speaker 1: Belichick and Gerade have been more along that line of
- 47:14Speaker 1: things with being aggressive and still kind of using zero
- 47:16Speaker 1: blitzes and and that kind of stuff. So, you know, hopefully,
- 47:20Speaker 1: hopefully it comes together from this year, because I think
- 47:22Speaker 1: it's not just about on field, it's about developing the players.
- 47:25Speaker 1: And as you said many times, they need young players
- 47:27Speaker 1: to emerge and be playmakers. These are the coaches. That's
- 47:31Speaker 1: what they have to do. Put these players in position
- 47:32Speaker 1: to make plays, and then I think the defense will
- 47:35Speaker 1: you take a stride and hopefully again peek at the
- 47:38Speaker 1: end like like we've been talking about. I also want
- 47:40Speaker 1: to note that it was on Wei. I think that
- 47:43Speaker 1: Judon spoke about this, but he said, like he obviously
- 47:46Speaker 1: recognized that down the stretch that the defense was so
- 47:49Speaker 1: burned out, and he said because of that, he's going
- 47:51Speaker 1: to start working on this year his cardio essentially and
- 47:54Speaker 1: just making sure that he can withstand a full season.
- 47:57Speaker 1: So I would have to imagine that he's not the
- 47:59Speaker 1: only person who was aware of that at how they
- 48:02Speaker 1: were so gasped by the end of the season that
- 48:05Speaker 1: that's going to be a point of emphasis for all
- 48:06Speaker 1: of them, making sure that they are able to endure.
- 48:09Speaker 1: It's especially the last couple of games. It's like a
- 48:11Speaker 1: weird line to walk between, like we weren't in good
- 48:13Speaker 1: enough shape and we were burnt out. You know, it's like, well,
- 48:15Speaker 1: were you good and good enough shape at the beginning,
- 48:17Speaker 1: and like, I don't know, it's just that's all fine.
- 48:21Speaker 1: But there's plenty of teams that look great at the
- 48:24Speaker 1: end of the season, and I don't think that they're
- 48:25Speaker 1: doing anything overly special with their conditioning to put them.
- 48:29Speaker 1: I mean, everybody around here is used to playing into
- 48:31Speaker 1: mid January and late January up until recently, so it's fine.
- 48:35Speaker 1: They can say what they want and along those lines.
- 48:37Speaker 1: And yeah, I mean, I'm more with you, Deuce. I can.
- 48:39Speaker 1: I can sense your tone. But to me, it's like
- 48:42Speaker 1: you played good offenses at the end of the year
- 48:44Speaker 1: and your defense struggled. I mean, to me, it's a
- 48:46Speaker 1: pretty simple equation. But I did notice during the course
- 48:49Speaker 1: of the summer ay they had more time off than
- 48:54Speaker 1: they normally do. They would get like the random Saturday
- 48:57Speaker 1: and Sunday off, which was great for us, but probably
- 49:00Speaker 1: not you know, what you're used to as a player.
- 49:02Speaker 1: But also I felt that there was less of those
- 49:05Speaker 1: conditioning runs at the end of practices on the hills,
- 49:08Speaker 1: and I wonder if maybe this was an effort to
- 49:11Speaker 1: sort of do things a little bit different to Tamara's
- 49:14Speaker 1: point that maybe they felt like they were running out
- 49:17Speaker 1: of gas and had nothing left in the tank down
- 49:19Speaker 1: the stretch of these seasons. That's why they're not playing
- 49:21Speaker 1: well at the end of the year. I thought the
- 49:23Speaker 1: idea wasn't I didn't say that I necessarily bought it, Fred,
- 49:28Speaker 1: I'm just saying I wonder if that was part of
- 49:31Speaker 1: the equation. Much like we'll go back full circle. Why
- 49:34Speaker 1: they're in Florida right now? Right, Yeah, Like, let's see
- 49:37Speaker 1: if we can get down there for the full week
- 49:40Speaker 1: and if that helps, you know, I'm not sure how
- 49:42Speaker 1: that helps, but all right, we're going to take a

- 1:00:59Speaker 1: He Federal confuses me almost every time it falls, like
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: what what on the on the Monday? What like what
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: Monday yesterday? Maybe a week for money that there's no
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: official practice scheduled, but there might be a secret practice
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: of some sort that we would when we will be
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: live during the two Panthers Tuesday and Wenches Tuesday and Wednesday,
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: right like we always I mean since we started doing
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: the joint practices, we've always done live during the joint practices. Yep, right, yep.
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: I don't know, might be a mean thing. Any any
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: camp that we practice we go to we'll have a
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: camp cast rap at very at the very least. Paul
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: gets very defensive when anyone asked him, are you gonna
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: be doing any work? It's very defensive. Well, we do
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: lots of works, Like are you going to continue the
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: camp cast? Is like, no, No, we justcted this shop.
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: We're gonna only only half a camp. We're gonna do
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: what we're not going to do the rest. That's another
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: great moment from all right back here and Patriots and
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: filter tomorrow has run out? Where's she going? Press pass? Yeah,
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: gotta go make the get some things. Okay, Paul still here,
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: Mike still here, him here, Matt's in the booth. We're
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: talking Patriots. Obviously it's week one, baby, getting ready for
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: the Dolphins Sunday at one. Can't wait? Um and Joelnatoa says,
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: why am I more nervous and unhinged about this season
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: than last? I honestly felt better about the season with
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: a rookie quarterback last year than I do this year,
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: and I expect Mac to have improved. Are we, as
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: Patch fans overreacting? No? I think it's uncertainly right out
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: of the gate. In the past, you probably felt like
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: if you lose this one, you'll get it back. You'll
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: get it back later, like she had a quarterback and
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: you probably went into it saying, yeah, I'm excited to
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: see this guy play. I know there'll be some ups
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: and downs. Needs to be better now, you want him
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: to be better. And in the summer it hasn't been better, right,
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: hasn't been consistent. I mean there's been flashes. But let's
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: go to the ace ticket outline eight by five pats
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: five hundred. Adrian is in made. Oh he wasn't. He's
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: like that break too long? Long? Yeah, the four minutes
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: it took to cork down some food and it's it.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: I mean, Hardy makes fun of our break. But every
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: time I turn on ninety eight point five, they're at
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: a commercial. You know. Well, I think he really, uh
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: makes fun of not necessarily our breaks, which he does,
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: but he really makes fun of the the brevity there,
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: the brief the brief periods of break that we have
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: on pre and post games. Oh yeah, those are those
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: are facts, like you can't even go to the bathroom.
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: Yeah no, well's I mean, you know, I mean, we
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: I guess we could spring a couple spots together and
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: give nah Hardy more time to go if he had
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: to go. Nah, he's fine. We got the pre game.
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: We gotta we gotta set the stage. It isn't that
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: time for pe breaks. Well, I I I when I
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: was in uh your own, when I was in Vegas,
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: I tuned into the pregame show and or might might Yeah,
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: the pre pregame show, I think, and Paul you weren't here.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: And I texted Deuce, It's like, what happened to Paul?
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: He goes, I think he might have had to go
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: to the back. So I had an emergency, I said,
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: number two yo. Yeah, Kenny Chesney brought him out on stage. Hey, Papa,
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: I had had one of those. I gotta go. That's right,
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: So I gotta go. I'm sorry, Neil and new Brunswick
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: writes in at web Radio at Patriots dot Com, here's
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: one for you. Last week, Paul Fred had a hilarious
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: and somewhat meaningless argument about the age of our roster.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: Is there another kind, during which Paul dropped a nugget.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: Even our rookies are old, which means we draft fourth
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: and fifth year seniors. Top college talent come out of
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: the draft early. We don't seem to draft top college talent.
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: Do you think this is one of our drafting problems
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: that we all agree we've had. No, I don't. I
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: think that they've drafted plenty of early entries over the years.
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: This particular draft class, I think across the board is
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: older than most because of COVID, not just the Patriots
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: draft got now the pag Riots is I think particularly
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: a lot of players basically got an extra one or
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: two years of eligibility out of this, and Jack Jones
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: is like twenty five. Yeah. Um, their draft class is
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: a little older than most draft classes. And I think
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: across the board because of the extra year, I mean
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: Cole Strange six years at Chattanooga. Yeah, And Matt Grow
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: warned us of that in one of his pre draft
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: I think it was Matt Grow told us that, you know,
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: they would be looking at some older guys. Yeah, are
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: we caught up yet? I mean, is it? Is it
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: the COVID year and the extra eligible I mean, yeah,
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: there's still more guys that got that extra If you
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: were in school and lost a year, you got you
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: you can play an extra year, so it should go
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: for four years theoretically. Again, Yeah, I think it'll be
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: less and less because the people that were directly affected
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: by it lost the year when they were supposed to
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: be getting looked at as opposed to someone who was
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: a freshman at the time is just spending three years
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: in school and they'll have, you know, two years normal
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: quote unquote normal to Yet you know what I haven't
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: heard yet, Paul that I'm surprised asn't on your radar
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: is uh, Yeah, they had a bad draft in twenty
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: twenties COVID jacket in AABA. The Patriots needed to elevate
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: for Reendz because they need a backup center for the
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: Miami game. Friends has the experience. Chason Hines is not
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: ready to play center in game action, though he may
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: be the starting center whenever Andrews retires. Russy may be
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: the better long term prospect for backup center, but he
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: is not yet experienced enough. Yeah. Nobody, I mean nobody
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: has experience behind behind Ferrens, I mean, of any of
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: the interior spots. So Strange could probably snap two. I
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: mean he did that the Senior Bowl. Yeah, I don't.
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: I mean Ferrens definitely is the best option for a
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: backup interior, backup I don't think there's any argument a
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: spot that Joe Schmuccarelli writes in He's Northeast of Homerville.
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: He says, I'm hearing a lot of whining from Patriots
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: Nation lately, as we are staring down the barrel of
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: an eight win season. We've been spoiled, a whole generation
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: of fans, spoiled by what we saw for twenty years.
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: Regardless of the team they put out there this season,
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: I will watch every snap the Patriots play. I'm choosing
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: to be thankful of the greatness we witnessed and accept
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: that we may never see that level of greatness again.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: I'm a fan of the game of football, not just
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: the Patriots. I'm going to accept the situation and enjoy
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: being a fan of the league. There's lots of great
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: teams out there, and to be truthful, it will be
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: fun to watch and not be concerned about vested interest
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: in which teams win and lose around the league. Well,
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: I guess one way of looking at but I think
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: that's the answer that I was trying to explain yesterday
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: to the guy who said thrown in the towel, and
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: he's probably looking at it realistically, But that it's not
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: going to stop him from watching every game and every play.
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: I agree. I've been in that situation a million times,
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: you know, watching some really bad college hockey, oh, you know,
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: in in Northeastern history in the late eighties, early nineties. Yeah,
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: but I just you know, also too, like I just
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: don't think it's crazy to expect that with the coaching
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: staff that you have, that you should put a tough,
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: competitive football team on that. Yeah, they might not win
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: twelve thirteen games, but every game they're gonna be in it.
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: They're gonna fight, they're gonna you know, like they like
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: the other team's gonna have to beat them. They're not.
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: And I think the last couple of years there's been
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: too much of we didn't have it today. We didn't
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: you know, we kind of yeah, the mistakes, the false starts, Yeah,
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: there are too many men on the field. Oh yeah,
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: you know those things like clean that stuff up and
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: you know then then who knows you definitely gotta clean Yeah,
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: I mean those two things to me, Mike's second point
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: about the too many men, the pre snap penalties, you know,
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: block punts, you can't have that in terms of compet Like,
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: I don't as a fan, I'm expecting my team to
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: have a chance to win, so like fighting hard and
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: losing like that. I don't have a lot of solace
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: in that. But the second part of what Mike said,
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: like delay a game, I mean, how many over the
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: last two years delay a game? Not enough guys? Too
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: many guys? Uh, you know, pre snap false start. Like
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: it just seems like every time they would do something
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: last year, they would take two steps back. I mean,
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: Zoe and Beatle. It looks like they've done four hours
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: on whether or not it was a good idea to
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: go down to Florida on Tuesday. You know, it's funny.
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: I mean, really they did four hours on that. There's
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: no yeah, there's not a lot like with long Pea
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: breaks for Hardy too, I told you about you know,
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: I gotta make my debut today and you know in
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: our email chain this morning, like there's like kind of
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: searching for things like how much longer are you gonna
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: talk about the lack of a coordinator, like you know
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: what I just but like we did the first hour
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: and basically you know what Miami might be thinking. Patriot,
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: you know, the chess match that is football. I love it.
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: You know. That's the stuff I love, especially in week
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: one when no one really you know, knows speculation. Yeah,
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: what are they gonna unleash? I mean, I think, But
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: that's it's all. There's nothing to talk about if you're
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: lazy but not. But but what do you do for
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: the other nineteen hours in the week? Is my point.
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: Now we do our picks, that's that's eighteen hours. This
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: is my point. Like the Celtics and Bruins are off
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: season and really with with very little exception of being irrelevant,
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: the Red Sox are in a free fall. So it's
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: all Patriots all the time, and you can only talk
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: about them, and like we've done it here and now
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: we've already moved on, Like we're talking about like what
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: what we think McDaniel and Belichick and that chess match
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: and all that stuff, and we're not all that qualified
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: to to delve much deeper than we did, right, you know,
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: So it's not as easy as you think. That's why
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: we're good, and that's why we're the that's why we're
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: the original, the world's original, correct world correction. But I
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: just was bringing out a point like almost never do
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: I on Wednesday morning when I get on that email chain,
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: not have like the three or four things that they
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: want to make sure that they're doing that day today. Like,
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: I think we're gonna probably go a little bit more
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: a bigger pitcher league wide and do some of that.
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: We'll see, We'll find out when I get there for
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: the most part. But you don't want to just continue
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: to talk about Joe Judge and Matt Patricia. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: how much? How much more do we have to beat
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: that dead horse Roger and Saint Louis a game of
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: what do you think is more likely? You're ready? Ready?
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: One week eighteen at Bills is a winner takes the
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: division game or the Patriots are eliminated from playoff contention
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: before December, which is more likely? Which what's the first
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: one week eighteen against the Bills? Is a winner takes
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: the division game, or or the Patriots are eliminated from
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: playoff contention before I'm gonna say the first one. I
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: don't see how any I don't see any way teams
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: are going to be eliminated from playoff contention with five
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: games six games to before December. Yeah. Two. The team
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: has two offensive Pro Bowlers this year. Actual Pro Bowlers
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: not alternates, or has a top five pick in twenty
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: twenty three Pro Bowlers Ye three, deuce goes above five
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: hundred against the spread this year, or a meteor hits
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: the stadium. Hey, I just want to say, I'm doing
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: research this year. I printed out that's your problem. You
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: always did research. You come down with Have you never
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: watched fred Fred and me? Yeah, I mean we dominate
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: this this cont I mean we can go back to
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: were in for a bad year, Freddy, because we've been
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: talking a lot about we're in for a bad year.
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: I was, you know, it was funny thin a couple
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: of weeks ago. I was thinking about this, believe it
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: or not. I was thinking, I don't think I'm going
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: to have a good year this year. My feeling for
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: the league, I feel for us necessarily that plus like
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: just so much turnover this year, Like, what's you know this?
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: This is a tough year to have a feeling for.
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: He talks himself into having a bad year. He's already
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: given himself an a turnover. Oh this is the year,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: this turnover. Yeah, that would fade as for the that's true, yea,
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: and by by this one, this would be the one
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: it would be the twenty twenty two season. Evidently friends
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: Friends washed his hands in the whole process. I've got
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: to I've got to brush up on my betting terminology.
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: To do you would dominant last year. I don't know
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: why you would just automatically assume him it's gonna slip back. Yeah,
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: sharp parlance, I wouldn't touch this. As for the game
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: this Sunday, the Patriots offense never gets going, but Ta
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: makes enough mistakes to keep it close into the fourth.
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: The game is ugly and at times unwatchable. Sixteen fourteen Miami,
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: I don't see sixteen fourteen. I don't see that from Tua.
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: Like I don't think that he's a one touchdown and
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: the hugely miss take prone guy. I think, you know,
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: I think he's just sort of there. Yeah, I agree.
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: I mean he's not. He's not gonna put the ball
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: in danger a lot. I don't think, I mean, unless
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: they are obsessed with trying to prove a point, with
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: pushing the ball downfield to Tyreek kill. Otherwise, it's stay
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: on schedule, to distribute the ball and let those guys
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: do what they do. Arepo stuff. He can't really blitz
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: them on that. Ah, you got to find a way
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: to fluster him. They haven't figured it out yet. Alex
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: from the UK. If you swap Josh Allen with Mac Jones,
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: what record would each team have, all other things being
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: the same, what would be the ceiling for each team?
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: So Josh Shallen is on the Patriots, Mac Jones is
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: on the Bills, the Patriots would be a true contender,
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: oh yeah for the title, and Buffalo would not be
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: just like Buffalo is now, you know, right, But I
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: don't think Buffalo. I don't think Buffalo is a product
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: of the you know, Josh Allen's the product of an
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: immense talent, immensely talented Rosher did good. He makes them great.
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: Yeah in my view, that's just my But but here's
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: the thing. I think. I think Josh Allen makes the
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: Patriots better, no doubt. But I think Mac Jones that's
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: still not as good a team, but it's still a
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: playoff contending team because you do have that good roster.
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: I think so, I think. So, you know, I would
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: still put them closer. You know, I put put the
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: quote unquote Bills, uh you know, closer or sorry sorry, Yeah,
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: the Bills would be closer to the Patriots, I think
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: than the Patriots are actually, but we can get back
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: to it. I like that question. Good job emailing it
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: was a good question. Um calling in from Miami is
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: Alex Francisco. Hey Alex, welcome to Miami. Good good stage
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: and screen. So Tamara had a league because she's getting
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: the press pass together. But it's Mike, Mike, you know
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: in Paul and myself. So thanks for calling in for sure.
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: And I'm not in Miami. I'm actually on the beautiful
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: facilities here at Palm Beach Atlantic University. Okay, right, that's
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: about ninety and it's if I'm not mistaken, I gave
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: up a titanic home run their sophomore year that may
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: not have landed yet, so watch out for income. Well,
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: you're the only person that's probably heard of this school,
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: because not many people had today. Yeah, I think we
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: played Nova University at Palm Beach Atlantic, but I might
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: be misremember no, no, no, I saw a little plaque
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: on the other side of a fence with your name, right. Yeah,
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: this this ball landed year rightly, So what do you
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: get for us out? What was going on practice? Who
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: was out there or not out there? So really great
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: update for um time Montgomery. He's out there practicing Isaiah
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: to the only note. The only absence I saw was
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: Harvey Langy, So it seems like they're in pretty good
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: health heading into the week one. Now, Will did Wilkerson travel? No? No, no, oh,
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: he's on I R right, Okay, Thornton is too, Yeah,
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: but I think I think Thornton true Bill. We also
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: had Bill and names captain. Yeah, morning, what's your take
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: on that, Alex? Did they usually do six captain? Oh? Yeah,
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: But I'm just wondering, like, you know, like, um, the
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: fact that Dietrich Wise is a captain. I don't know
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: if you had any you know, um opinion on that.
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: Mac Jones Yeah, yeah, yeah, I was actually almost a
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: little surprised, just I mean, in my short time here,
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: it seems like Dietrich is just a really stand up guy.
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: He's all over the community. I've I've talked to Donna
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: a lot from CR about how amazing he is. So, um,
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: it seemed like Dietrich was kind of, from my vantage
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: point at least, just like a perfect captain candidate. And
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: then obviously Mac first timer as well, and all his
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: teammates had really great things to say about both of them. Yeah,
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: who was who was talking down their outs for players? Yeah,
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: we had Savante's Parker, Ramondre Stevenson, Judean, and then obviously
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: Mac and Phil. Okay, Mac talk today, Okay, yeah, great.
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: Obviously questions for Davante about playing his old team in
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: week one, but he wasn't really going to give an inch.
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: He wasn't here to give any bullets in board material
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: or make any headlines. Very quick, short, one word answers
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: and such a departure from usual. Right. I noticed. I
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: noticed when Bill spoke today he didn't go overboard about
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: how great the facilities are. He was actually asked if
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: they're suitable, and he was like, yeah, it's good. Yeah,
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: but it's funny because they don't have a football program here,
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: so they're right now practicing on a field that I
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: guess it is typically reserved for soccer and lacrosse. And
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: there's a really funny makeshift op right, that looks like
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: it's made out of like yellow PBC pipe. But we
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: heard that they had it. No, I'm not kidding here.
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: We heard that they had to bring them because they
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: didn't have goalposts. Yeah, to make can confirmed because I
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: saw the staff setting it up when we got here. Okay,
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: there you go, and I just wonder, like, you know,
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: if like these guys are going to just chew up
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: that field like it's never been chewed up before they
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: got how big? Do they just have one field? Alex
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: And has it all painted like like a grid ions
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: as it should be, so it's painted like a grid ion,
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: but it looks like it's at least two full soccer fields. Okay,
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: So it's it's a lot of sun. I mean, they
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: had a final place that didn't have a football program,
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: otherwise they'd be using their facility, so you know, yeah,
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: looks like it's decent. It's pretty big. It's one of
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: those big Spanish taco buildings with the red clay roofs.
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: So I haven't been able to go inside, but I
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: mean Bill's miras asked if it was suitable, and he said, yes,
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: it's good. Okay, So now the important question, where are
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: you guys eating tonight? I'm getting dinner with my grandma,
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: oh about ten minutes away. I don't know where we're
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: I hope she cooks me a meal, but I think, god,
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: I think we're saving the dinners for the rest of
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: the week. Nice beat writers seemed to be just coming
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: in today and trying to get settled. Why don't you
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: invite all the beat writers? Well, what are your grandma?
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: She'll cook for everybody. Honestly, I thought about it, but
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: she's leaving some Portugal in the morning. Oh. I didn't
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: want to overwhelm her with dishes. But otherwise I definitely
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: would have brought step in some of the interns over
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: for dinner and to use her pool. Oh. I would
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: have been all over that, like that's some authentic Portuguese food.
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: Sign me up right now. Yep, she's she's a She's
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: a wizard in the kitchen too. All right, Well that's cool.
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: Well listen um, enjoy your time down there. We'll have
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: you call in again tomorrow. Sure give us any other
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: updates in case anything changes. So thanks for calling in,
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: Alex for sure, have a good show, guys. Okay, Alex
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: Francisco from University. I don't know what is this cob
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: Beach Atlantic, hob Beach Atlantic. Paul's looking up his pitching
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: stats from the game. You know, I meant this morning
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: to reach out to a couple of guys I played
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: with to said like did we play there? Like it
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: was he like Florida Atlantic or Palm Beach Atlantic. There
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: was like a bunch of different schools in that general
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: are at Boca Raton College. I think we played at Yeah,
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: there's a lot of those yeah down there, and they're
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: all and they all play baseball. They're all tremendous in baseball. Yeah,
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: Like there's some of them a small schools, but they
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: have really good baseball program. It's just like a parade
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: of like Northeastern schools coming down right, and you like,
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: we didn't necessarily play against that, Like I didn't play
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: against Palm Beach Atlantic, Dad, I remember, but I think
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: we played at that school against somebody else. Uh a
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: sticket hot line again? No, no, no, I'm making fun
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: of just the makeshift uprights. I can't get off of that.
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: I'm that's cracking me up. I told you what's up?
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: Eldred Hey the world Greatest podcast. Good. I got a
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: couple of questions, like one, do you think it's strange
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: that we keep saying why receivers student? Even though I'm
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: on people got to the practice squad instead of maybe
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: some corners instead of that one safety, but we got
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: like save safeties. Now, well, I think I think if
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: Thornton hadn't gotten hurt, but you, I mean, you're pretty
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: deep in the defensive backfield. I don't know how good
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: it is, but you have a lot of bodies in
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: the defensive backfield, right. You have Jalen Mills, Jonathan Jones,
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: Jack Jones, Marcus Jones, Miles Bryant, Sean Wade. I mean
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: that's like six guys that can play corner. And then
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: you have all of the safeties that you know, the
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: Big four plus Bledsoe and Bryant can play safety also. Yeah,
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: I don't know how good it is, but you have
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: a lot of bodies there. Yeah. I would just keep
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: an eye on the injury port with Myers today to
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: see because I think if he's still battling something that
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: that might you know, they mean, they only then have
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: three healthy wide receivers going into the game, so that
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: might be something to consider. By the way, you can
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: put me down in the category of Bill trying to
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: make sure that Miami has to prepare for time Montgomery Sunday, Oh,
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: there you go by having him out there at practice. Sure. Yeah, Well,
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: one more question is uh, Paul Fred They asked the
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: email before then to my whiney Patriot fans. You know
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: well on Facebook, on Patriot Facebook, I've been called one
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: of those two in a troll. But it's not that.
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: It's not that we spoiled for twenty years. That's twenty
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: years gone. You know, there's got to be a rebuild system.
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: But what we spoiled and Whiney's Patriot fans are lease
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: have a competitive team out there on the field. We
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: know you ain't gonna win every game. You know every
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: year you ain't gonna be up, and that you're gonna
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: be up every year, but at least be competitive. You know,
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: Lee have some talent that match close to the talent
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: you're playing. Again, that's the main thing, you know, That's
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: the main thing abouty rich about. And then another thing
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: is I still say office coordinator is gonna count. It's
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: gonna hurt them. Mc daniel's gone. And I don't have
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: no faces, Judge or Patricia. I'm just being honest. Ye know,
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: you ain't never did it. You know, well, thank you
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: you have a good one, Saldred. Just for this week.
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: I'm kind of glad that Josh is gone because I
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: would be doing the McDaniels McDaniel thing, and I'd be
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: screaming that up all the time, and yeah, um let's
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: see small. Well, dude, do we want to go back
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: to that email about like if Mac had I think
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: Buffalo is really good. I don't think they have a
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: bad roster, but I think that they are elite because
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: of the quarterback. And I think that they wouldn't be
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: elite without an elite level quarterback. Yeah, but I think
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: they'd be like the Patriots if they hate. If things
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: go right, they could make the play But yeah, if
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: they had an average quarterback, they'd still be a playoff contender,
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: right like the Patriots. I'd put them above the Patriots
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: what the Patriots are right now, I think they would
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: be a firm yeah the AC I would put them
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: ahead of the Patriots as well. I agree with you.
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: It sounds like you two, Fred I would. I think
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: their roster overall is better than the Patriots, but I
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: don't think by a lot. I think their quarterback is
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: light years or than really most of the quarterbacks in football.
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: It's yeah, no slap at Mac. It's funny because it
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: almost makes them more like the Dolphins. Like it almost
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: like it puts some uncertainty at the quarterback position. But
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: you've got good Josh the quarterback in Miami. What do
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: you think I mean that might be this is what
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: we're talking about, that might be the best team in
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: Patrick If those if Aaron Rodgers, if if those guys
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: were you know, quarterbacking those rosters, I think you'd look
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: at them all. Yeah, that's probably better than you look
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: at the Patriots. That's a good study of which which
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: AFC's team will be the best with Josh Allen, Like,
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: would it be the Bills, would they be the best
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: day or would There's there's a lot like in Miami too. Uh,
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: Mike and South Dakota. Fred, I think you've built quite
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: a good team. I like the new additions. Thank you.
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: What will change between what we saw in camp and
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: what we'll see on game day? Do you think they
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: will be able to run the ball. That's been a
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: huge struggle in camp and ps taking a decent sized
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: group of my kids up to the Thanksgiving Day Vikings
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: Patriots game, super ex I did, Um, how many kids
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: you got? It's it's first Patriots game. Probably some friends too,
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: kids and friends. Yeah, that's fun. Um, What will be different.
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: I mean, that's that's what the Dolphins coaching staffs probably
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: asking themselves right now. I just I think the most
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: effective thing we saw was was spread offense. Let Mac
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: spread them out, find the matchups to go. I think
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: that that's got to be part of the plan. I
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: think they will run the ball better than they do.
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: I think that they'll get away from some of the
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: things that they struggle doing until they get better at it,
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: and they'll run the ball better. They ran the ball
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: well last year for the most part. I don't want
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: to say it was perfect, but they ran the ball
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: pretty well last year. I think they'll run the ball
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: better than you saw in the summer. John is in
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: Duxbury on the eighth ticket a hot line. Hey John, Hi, everybody,
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: why are you good? Yeah? I want to know how
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: the NFL gets away with having four night games in
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: a row for the Patriots. We mean get away with well.
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: I mean that's Can you tell me any other team
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: that's had I think Kansas City did it last year,
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: but I'm not. I mean, I can't tell you off
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: the top of my head, but yeah, I think that happens.
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: I think I'm a little surprised it's happening to the
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: Patriots quite frankly, because I'm not sure why they want
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: them featured so especially late in the season. Like I
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: would think if you want the Patriots in primetime, do
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: it early. Um. But yeah, I think that you've seen
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: like three weeks in a row. Well, I think you've
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: seen it. I think it's happened. Yeah, I personally I
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: hate even having one game or two games in a row. Yeah,
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: I hate the primetime games. But it's not it's not
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: about me, although if it were, we hate them too.
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: I mean I would play every game at Sunday at
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: one if it were you know, me making the choice.
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: But you know, the Patriots are good for ratings. Even
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: when they're not great, they're still good for ratings. Yeah,
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: so you understand why they want to feature them. Sure. Yeah,
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: A Dalton King get picked up by the Eagles on
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: their practice squad. Yeah yeah, I don't know whether you
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: guys and Paul, I want you to do me a favor.
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: I want you to take fred either to Everett. I
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: went to Hill and some of them and introduced them
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: to real pizza, I know, from real pizza travel what pizza?
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: What's that crap? You are eating there pizza time. I
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: can't even remember the name of it anymore. What's the
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: place that you were talking kind Oh um uh Pepe's no, no,
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: the chain Pizzazzah. Yeah, I listen. I know I like
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: pizza Hut, but I know it's not what you're talking about.
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I know. Thanks a lot. All right, thanks.
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: I could think they're not a sponsor. Uh. Brent from
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: Indiana writes in just mentioned it's going to be a
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: challenging to not have the likes of High Tower Collins
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: van Noy in the locker room to act as assistant coaches.
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: I look at it differently. I think not having them
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: will help as there's less voices pushing and pulling in
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: different directions. I think it's harder for coaches to get
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: guys that are that much of alpha is to do
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: what things they want. That being said, I'm still skeptical
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: of what the product on the field will look like.
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: I'm super pumped for this weekend regardless. Yeah, that's that's
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: kind of along the lines of what Mayo said this
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: offseason of you know the things we're talking about right now,
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: those other guys would be bored to death. So I mean,
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: I you know, I think they're all going through a
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: process together. I hate to use the going through a
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: process here, and that's a buzzword right now, but I
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: see the truth of what you're saying. It's just but
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: at the end of the day, you need to get
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: performances out of these guys. And you know, no matter
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: who it is, whether it was high Tower and Collins
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: and Banoi last year or these new group of guys
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: this year, like they have to elevate their play. That's
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: what good coaches do. They put guys in position to
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: be successful, play to their strengths and they're able to
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: play fast and make plays. And you know that that's
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: the bottom line. That's all I really care about, rather
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: like locker room or any of that stuff. To me,
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: that the definition of you can talk yourself into anything
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: being a positive. Like we've lost experience, we've lost having
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: extra coaches on the field that can help everybody, and
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: that's a good thing because we don't want too many alphas.
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: I mean, if you want to tell me that Dante
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: Haitou or isn't the same guy anymore, I would say
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: I a thousand percent agree. Physically. I just don't think
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: he can do it anymore. Don't tell me. It's a
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: good thing that his brains out of the locker room, right,
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: David and Bethlehem. Glad to see teams go to my
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: glad to see the team go to Miami early. Alex's
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: point about conditioning makes sense. Practicing short burst intensive runs
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: in humidity is different than uphill drills in Foxborough. All right, Okay, predictions.
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: I'm just gonna tell you this summer, it wasn't any
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: more humid in Florida than I was here. It was
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: pretty bad. Well it was all the last week or
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: so was no but like during training camp, yeah, it
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: was tough prediction time. Who will have sacks TDS? Surprise
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: at a boy sacks far more Sunday sacks TDS. I
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: hope Prudon has one two. I think Park Girl have
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: a team. I'm gonna go outside the box and say
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: Anthony Jennings will have a sack. Okay, on Sunday. I
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: think my Ada boy is Mac Jones, No, Matt Jowdon.
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: I think we come out of this game going hey,
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: all right, yeah, yeah, this one just pop. I'm gonna say, godchaw,
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: you know, I think if he if he can dominate
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: that new center. They got Connor Williams and you know,
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: on the line of scrimmage and eat up some inside
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: runs early. I think that would be I think if
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: you're gonna go down there and you're gonna feel good
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: about what you did when you come back with a win,
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: Mac Jones is gonna have to be a different guy
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: than he than he has been. That's my that's my.
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: I mean, that's it. It's Mac. It's Mac. It's Mac.
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: You know it begins and ends with Mac. It's uh ps,
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: Why does the NFL make it impossible for out of
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: local market fans to see the game? Boo? He says, why?
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: I mean, why is that? I don't understand, Well, like,
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: it's it's not national, especially now if you're I mean,
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: what are they supposed to do? Well, come up with
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: an easy package to buy that you can watch any
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: game at any time, and there's not I don't think so. No,
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: I meant you're gonna have direct TV, right, Yeah, but
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: I think that that's changing too. Yeah, I know that
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: it is. I had to go and do that. It
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: is changing. I think he was in California. Yeah, it's
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: gonna I think Apple's taking that over so you'll I
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: mean you'll be able to pay. It's gonna cost you
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: some money, but you'll have access to any game you want.
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: It's about you can just part of the NFL plus
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: and like if you you know, can subscribe to one team,
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: plus it up, plus it up one team and you
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: get whatever you need. But that was I mean out
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: in LA used to be like you get those coverage
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: maps who come out on like Tuesday of like already
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: getting it, but like, okay, so you wanted to watch it,
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: Like what is the NFL is supposed to say, Well,
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: oh yeah, Mike, just so he's a big Patriots fanning
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: os in LA, I gotta I gotta take care of him. No,
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: like there's something available that he can buy. And that's
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: the other thing. You don't say that about any other sport,
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: Like you know, if you're in LA, why can't I
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: watch the next game? Why you know you can? You
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: got to buy that, NBA PA the same thing for
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: all sports. Right, it's available, you just have to buy it. Right.
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: I just want to stop short of having to put
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: a satellite dish on my house just to get it. No, No,
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: that that's fine, And like I wouldn't, Mike, I'm totally
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: with you. I wouldn't do it either. I would never
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: do I would watch Red Zone and I would watch
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: I would see enough of my game that I would
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: understand what's going on. But it does exist. There are
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: avenues for you to be able to watch games out
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: of market. Oh yeah, you can go to a bar.
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: I'm sure you could find your your local team, or
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: you can in any major city, right Oh that, or
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: like you know, free streams, like I've I used to
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: go down the free stream hole all the time when
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: it was hard to get the direct TV thing, and
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: then somebody sends you something and it's like way on
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: delay and the sound isn't quite right and the quality
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: was terrible, and I mean, it's it's it's a gauntlet
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: if you if you really love one team and you
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: really just want to watch one team, But you're right,
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: if you're willing to pay for it, and you could
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: put a dish on your house and you know, sign
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: up for the two year deal and all that stuff,
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: then you get it. What was the bar in La Patriots?
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: Sonny McClean, right, well, that was Junior's place, right well,
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: says was another place. But there was two Sonny mccleans
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: I think, Oh, okay, right, I misremember, Yeah, Senny mcleans
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: on Wilshire in Santa Monica. I mean there's one up
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: in Pasadena too that I went to watch the preseason
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: game there there's I know, I know Barry does a
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: big one down in the Orange County. Yeah, as well,
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: the Orange County Orange. I had, um I don't tell
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: you if I told you. I had lunch with Barry
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: and his wife in Las Vegas. Oh yeah, yeah. We
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: went to um, Gordon Ramsey. What's the name that guy? Uh,
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: Gordon Ramsey? Yeah? Is that the chef? Yeah, he's a
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: famous Yeah. It was like one of his restaurants. I
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: used to love that commercial, Yes, Ray twenty two dollars
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: for a cheeseburger. Well, that was kind of like the
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: guy Fieri's place that we went to. Similar. It's kind
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: of like me, that's fine, right, like paying for like
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: Guy Fiery I hate, Yeah, I don't like paying for
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: a name. Yeah. But Barry's doing well, his wife's doing
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: I mean, he does God's work. Why does he? Why
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: is he s a passionate traveling Patriots fan? Who or
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: he just does it? First? A show, and he and
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: his wife like to travel. They like having fun. They
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: go to Vegas a lot um so like they're not there.
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: They don't gamble big money, but they gamble. They like playing.
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: He likes playing craps and she plays the slots and
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: they do well. He's been he's been doing it forever.
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: I mean they go back to two thousand and I
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: mean always at San Diego when we go to those
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: games down and the Chargers, like he'd always have a huge,
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: huge group. I mean that's Patriots tailgate group on Facebook.
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: The guy that called earlier. I mean, it's it's just
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: go to Barry. He'll take care of you. He'll tell
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: you where to go. I know he's gonna have got
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: the rundown on it. Everybody. Oh yeah, I know they're
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: gonna have a big group out there for the Vegas
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: game when it happens that Barry must be looking his
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: childs for that one that's probably been years in waiting.
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: Yeah for that one. Um D writes in she's a beast,
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: she's a hard hitter's big yeah. Um hope Paul as well.
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: So what are we thinking going into the game. I've
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: been to the last few matchups and I know as
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: analysts in media you can get riled up good or bad,
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: but believe me, as a fan heading out of hard
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: rock in bad games, it's unbearable. Please by all that is, Belichick,
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: just win, baby, Yeah, that can be tough. They you know,
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: you know that every game they win is like a
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: super Bowl, you know, for them. I think any team,
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: I mean still, I still think it's always I've been
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: that Patriots fan walking out of an opposing stadium just
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: like head down, bummed out. Yeah, they make it tough
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: on scream, but yeah, it's the price you pack, that is.
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: And that's why Josh McDaniel shouldn't have come over after
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: that every game, because he knows what it's like to
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: lose in the NFL. That came up on the radio
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: too with Paul and Hardy, which Paul did a great job. Paul,
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: they Haready had me rolling. I was like sad, I
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: couldn't participate listening to them talking about sports movies of
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: all time, and this one guy called it it was
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: like miracle needs to be shown in boss. I heard
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: that every mass of the curriculum, line of the year,
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: line of the year, with all that you do, why
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: why because it was four guys from right about the
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: other season, right right. I mean, nobody loves matches talking
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: more than me. But like, really, you know, grow growing up,
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: that was I mean I was that was wheelhouse for me.
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: I was like twelve, Oh that was. That was the
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: be all end all. I'll never probably be as excited
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: about a sporting event as that. Now you had to.
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: Did you watch it when they had won? Like on
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: tape delay? Right? You know what? I had an idea
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: it was on tape delay. The game was played at
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: like five o'clock and they didn't show it till eight.
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: You're laughing because I remember, No, I was laughing because
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: I was a freshman in college and I knew what happened,
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: and I'm watching it with my buddies. I'm like, don't worry,
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: they're gonna win. This is gonna happen. They're like, how
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: did you know? Like you know these idiots and how
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: did you But in all serious, how did you know?
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: The Internet? No, I don't know how. Somehow I had
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: found out what happened in the game. I remember that,
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: and I was watching with these guys Morse codes like
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: you know the one thing to say, oh, they win,
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: but like, watch this, he's gonna score, Like you know,
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: that's like internet. But I do remember, Um, I didn't
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: know for sure that they won, but I had an
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: inkling that they won, and this is gonna still Do
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: you remember Jim McKay. Jim McKay was like it was
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: mister Olympics. Yes, he was the ultimate Olympic host. No
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: one will ever do it the way Jim McKay did it. Um,
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: you want a master class in doing that job, go
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: back and watch him anchor the Munich tragedy. Yeah, I
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: mean that you just can't do it any better than
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: he did. But and I remember he was anchoring the coverage.
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: They came on that night and just was beaming, like
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: he had this smile, And I was thinking to myself,
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: and I had known that the game had already taken place,
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: but like it was much easier in those days, like
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: you just didn't watch the six o'clock news and you
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: basically had no idea who won, Like there was no internet,
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: no phones or anything. So I he comes on and
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: he had a smile from year to year talking about
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: the US Russia, and I was like, I think we
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: might have won this game. Why is he so happy.
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: Young Paul Pearl, twelve years old already had the best detector.
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: Oh no, it was something that we all saw. It
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: wasn't jessms like we were watching it kind of as
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: a family and we're always happy. He looks really happy,
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: like we were all made made mention of it. It
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: wasn't something that like twelve year old psycho me came
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: up with bage hockey teams. They go on the Soviet Union,
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: the Americans, young amateurs averaging about twenty two years of age.
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: The Soyvian's generally anowed the greatest team in the world
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: bar none. You got to have Chuck man Joni in
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: the background. Was that a staple of like, that's great there,
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: you know what I'm talking about. Chuck okay Ali from
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: Rhode Island Rights In Mike McDaniel went on the Pat
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: McAfee podcast and was completely stoned. I think I'm not
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: the only one who thinks he's high. I think he
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: seems like a cool guy, but not head coach material.
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: If he were my head coach, I'd be embarrassed. What
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: do you guys think about a guy becoming a coach
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: who was not ever played football at any level? Or
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: grew up with it ingrained in their family. That's tough.
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: I like how you have to make the stipulations to
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: allow Belichick. I mean, I find him really enjoyed played
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: at college. No, I know, but that's as as he
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: will tell you. That's not really what he played center
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: at Wesley, I know, but he played like it's not
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: exactly the same and he grew up well, the ingrained part,
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. We have to add all of
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: these stipulations. So McDaniel never played. I know he's a
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: slight guy. Ye, a slight guy is yeah, Now I
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: find him really that is a slight guy. Now, stall uh,
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, that's that's one of the
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: great questions. It's it's it's so hard to be a
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: coach and to get, you know, players to buy what
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: you're selling, and you know, he certainly has some. Honestly
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: don't know the answer. Has there ever been a head
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: coach in the NFL who never played the game? Wait?
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: Like ever, Like, do I know that Mike McDaniel never
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: actually ever played? They didn't what we're saying, I don't know.
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: I don't know that. I don't know. No, But I
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: mean like did he ever play, like did he play
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: in like growing up? Like I I from this guy
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: out Like to me, the question is, has there ever
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: been a guy who never played if college level or
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: play like pop one or up through the high I
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: don't think you'd ever see that, Like if a guy
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: like that's what I'm saying, if you looked at my bio,
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: I wouldn't say played high school football. But we all
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: know if if I was the coach, if I was
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: the coach, for like everyone to say he played football
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: and ever and I well, like and I technically played
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: football and high school, but I take nothing from that
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: experience like that makes me and like I learned so
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: much more about football after, but like nothing that I
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: did playing gave me any kind of and whether it's
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: really hard to play football and friends? Right, like what
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: separates but like Bill didn't play either, But what separates
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: Bill is his father. Oh yeah, he's like two years
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: old watching he was born film. It's like he was
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: born to be a coach like that that's all that's
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: all he ever did. It's probably all he ever wanted
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: to do. Right, So, like that's to me what separates Belichick.
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: Not like he snapped the ball at Phillips Exeter and
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: resolute right like that gives him a qualification. Yeah, he
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: knows the game. I mean he's been in the trenches. Uh,
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: Kevin and Dublin excited for the season. One small concern
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: I have, however, is the level of penalties that the
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: Patriots might concede on both sides of the ball. You
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: guys might have a better idea as to stats in
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: this topic, but it feels like the last couple of
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: seasons have seen a notable increase in the number of
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: penalties committed by the Patriots, particularly those which they have
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: not been known to frequently commit. I'm thinking twelve man
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: on d to put it another way, stupid penalties. I
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: think penalties can be an underrated aspect of the game sometimes.
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: Is it in an area you have concerned about this
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: year with this team, particularly on offense. I don't know
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: if concern I just I mean, I think he's right.
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: Some penalties happen, Like you know, even going back to
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: that last Miami game where they ran that fake punt
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: in Bolden like hit the guy on the ground and
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: they ended up getting the first down because of it
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: was kind of remember that kind of a tough spot.
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: Good that was? That was Paul like recall I know
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: I felt like that was a taste. It was a
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: deep die. I was surprised when you didn't immediately jump
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: on me like, yeah, well of course it was you know,
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: four and six. I wasn't a deep dive right three
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: minutes left in the third quarter, but um, good d
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: But I think that you know, like we've been talking
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: about the the avoidable ones, the pre snap stuff that
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: you know, those are the ones that the block punts
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: not a penalty, but still just like not all on
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: the same page time into the play, timing and type.
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: And I agree with Mike because I don't think Adam Gase.
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: Adam Gase never played the game by school, college or NFL,
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: never played found Wow, did you type in did Mike
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: McDaniel ever play football? Adam? I'll bet I'll bet you
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: he did. I mean, do you see, seriously the size
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: of Mike McDaniel, I wouldn't be surprised to find out
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: he didn't even play. It would have been a skinny
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: wide receiver or maybe he lost a really small yeah,
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: like you think Mike Reese ever played receiver at Mike
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: McDaniel played wide receiver at Yale. I looking up. Yes, Wow,
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: he's tiny. Yeah any Gamezpatrick and I didn't. I'm just talking.
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: I'm not talking about potential pros. I'm saying he was good.
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: IVY League football is not terrible. I know, if you
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: if your son, forget about how thrilled you'd be that
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: your son was going to an IVY league school. Right,
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: if your son was recruited to play football at an
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: IVY league is pretty good, you'd be thrilled. Okay, because
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: he had a four roh and extracurricular activities. I said,
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: if you take up But the penalties I don't think
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: team wise have spiked dramatically in the last couple of years.
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: There's still toward the bottom of the league. It's the
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: dumb ones though, But the timing in the in the
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: atypical what we think of. You know that, as the
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: email had pointed out, the too many men a play
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: like that, that's a killing penalty. Getting a personal foul
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: on a failed fake punt. UM kind of tough about that.
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: You know, the pre snap penalties that they've gotten, um
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: delayed games, not enough men and too many men in
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: the huddle like and they were heavily penalized in the preseason. Well,
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: it's just said, we we have you know, mocked other
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: teams that committed these things and just you know, they
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: play the Patriots and they pooped their pains and things
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: like allowing block punts and that type of thing were
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: things we did to other teams or they committed against us.
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: You know. That's that's That's like the coaching thing too.
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: That drives me crazy, Like, well, Bill Belichick coach team,
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: He's not going to have a B and C. You know,
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: I'm like, well, does Bill suddenly not go over that
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: stuff anymore? What do you think that? Yeah, of course
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: he does, right, Like, you know, we got to make
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: sure we only have eleven guys in the huddle. Do
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: you think that he hasn't really stressed that the last
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: three years point of that, right, you know, to his coaches.
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: I think that that's one of those things that gets
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: tied to the coach all the time, and I kind
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: of feel it's unfair. It's like the Red Sox have
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: really been sloppy, um the last couple of months. You know,
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: uncharacteristic brain farts on the on the bases and you know,
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: giving teams extra out, Like, do you think alex Cora
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: just decided I know I want all those games, and
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: I know I won a World Series in twenty and eighteen,
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: but I'm not going to worry about those things anymore.
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: I'm just gonna let them fly by. Like no, Like
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: you have players playing positions that you know, like first
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: base as an example, with Franchie Coudaro and Bobby Dallbeck,
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: neither one of which is a major league first baseman,
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: and they can't catch the ball right. It's not because
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: of alex Cora. Like they didn't get up three block
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: punts last year because Bill Belichick decided I don't really
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: care about punt protection anymore. Just go out there and
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: kick it, Jake. But I having the wrong, wrong people
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: in the wrong position. You know, that's exactly when you
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: don't have the talent, there's not a lot you can do.
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: You have. The flip side of that is she's the
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: guy who procures the talents. That's true, ultimately it is,
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: so I don't want to gloss over this. Though Adam
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: Gase never played football, I think that's remarkable. Who like,
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: who'd have think that Mike McDaniel did and Adam Gase
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: didn't it? Yeah, like, how do you, like, how do
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: you not play a sport? He could come a yeah,
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: maybe he couldn't see the ball. Maybe he had a
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: f one those funny eyes. Four. I mean, what do
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: they call him? The army when you you I know
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: what you're talking about? Something for yeah, yeah, four, something
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: like that. I mean, what a bunch of idiots, man,
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: Just just that you should know. It was in the
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: Marines when you it's the militarily the same thing. It's
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: not the military if you fail, like if you don't qualify.
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: I don't know, he said, an army? Alright, military? What
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: do they call it when you want to go into
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: the Marines and you can't but you have some kind
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: of men from doing flat feet or something like that.
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: I have no idea. Okay, I'll look it. Doesn't worry
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: about that. I didn't have to worry about it. Oh well,
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: I I from my perspective though, like like I love football.
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: I didn't love playing football because I wasn't good, Like
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: I wasn't really big, really fast, really strong or a
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: combination of the three. But I still loved the game.
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: I love watching it, you know. So it's like I
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: wonder if he was around the game, because even when
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: I didn't play my senior year, how did you get
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: it around the team and work in the film team
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: and stuff like that, So, you know, did he just
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: suddenly stumble upon He must have done that. He must
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: have like worked support maybe in college or high school
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: and just note knew the game. And it's a really
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: hard sport to play, you know, if you especially if
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: you're Mike McDaniel size or you know, just an average athlete,
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: you're going to get pushed around by the big guys
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: and the fast guys. Yeah, I agree, Like I think
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: it's a hard sport to just be able to coach
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: it if you haven't ever really been a part of
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: that fabric, right, you know, like I think you could.
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: I think there are a lot of guys that you
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: look at in baseball as an example, when you say
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: that guy never played right, but you still can know
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: the spot would inside and oh yeah, I don't think
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: it is as easy to do. But maybe now with
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: the advent of all the numbers and all the analytics,
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: maybe that's going to be a thing too. Yeah. It's
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: also interesting how many guys, like just on the Patriots
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: roster that played other sports like Pellegrino played lacrosse. Like,
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: I know, lacrosse is a big one, but it's a
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: good one on your side. But it's just interesting that other,
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: you know, other people were college I mean, now, what's
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: the other guy, the other guy that played lacrosse to um,
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: Chris Mattis, you know, like I don't they just have
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: But he's not coach. I mean I think that, yeah, yeah,
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: fair enough. I don't know. Um Chance writes in from him.
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: His name is Chance. Ever meet anybody by the name
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: of Chance around a black lab the rapper, Chance, Rap, Chance,
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: the Rapper. I knew a guy named Rick Chance. No,
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: not first name, Chance, Dean Chance, Dean Chance. Um, first
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: time here. I'm going into this season with the expectation
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: of us winning six games. I hope that I'm wrong
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: and Bill continues to do what he's always done and
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: win games. With that said, I have two over under
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: questions that I would be interested in hearing your answers on. First,
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: one over under point five games that Bailey Zappy starts
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: for the twenty twenty two season under under okay uh
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: and two over under point five playoff wins for the
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: rest of Bill Belichick's ten year in New England. I'm
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: gonna say overrun now, yeah, I think he'll I think
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: he'll win a playoff game. Okay, if that was too
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: easy for you guys, And how about one point five
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: playoff game wins for Bill. I'll take the under on that.
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: I'll take over. Oh yeah, we're gonna make a run
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: when next year, twenty twenty seven, we're gonna make a
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: big run next year. How long do you think you'll
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: be here? Um? Three more years? Yep, two more playoff
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: wins in three years, two more years. But you see
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: real quick. The thing the Wickersham report of him saying
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: Bill and mister Crafter in a good place right now? Yeah,
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: where didn't you read that? I put they pulled it
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: off of an appearance from radio showing yeah, someone was
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: telling him someone was telling this story. Um, yeah, that's
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: what it was like. This is like how dangerous it
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: can be. He's saying that he over He had talked
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: to to Seth Wickersham, Yeah, and had asked him what
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: he thought the relationship between Robert Craft and Bill Belichick
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: was and wick shouldn't say I think they're in a
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: good place that's news. I know, I know that's news
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: like that, that's like newsworthy stuff, like someone's opinion who's
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: not even on the inside. Like if someone said, if
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: someone had if someone had asked, like Dante Scarnekia, what
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: what his thoughts were, It's still to me wouldn't be
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: accurate because he hasn't been in the building on a
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: consistent basis. But at least he's been here and he
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: knows the dynamic between Robert Craft and Bill Belichick. Seth
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: Wickersham has written some really interesting books and articles. But
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: that's a source as to what the relationship between the
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: owner and the coaches. Right then it makes news. Oh yeah, no,
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: Like that's why I asked. That's why I asked, you
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: Belichick Craft in good place? Like wow? Wow? Uh? Canadian
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: Mike and Florida writes in Hits the More A few
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: over unders in a question, um, Matt Jones tds, I'm
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: assuming for the season twenty eight right around there probably
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: over what is the Matt Jones touchdowns twenty eight? Last year?
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: I said thirty one? Last year? Last year I said
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: I said thirty one. Paul mocked me, but I was
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: onto something. Why he didn't come close. What do you
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: mean he had twenty two twenty two, But you take
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: the Buffalo game, you have two more, that's twenty four
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: and then all you need a seven more and he's
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: got thirty one. Right, So I was I was better
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: be over, I was on to something. Then better be
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: over twenty eight. Yeah, yeah, he'll be over twenty eight.
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: Yeah he if you yes, you should be over twenty eight. Okay,
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: Henry Smith tds combined twelve um. That's a good number.
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: That's a good number. I think it's probably right around there.
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: I'll go over. I think I think Henry, I'll go
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: down a little bit. Stevenson yards eight hundred over over,
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: says Paul. I'm happy with that. Although it is a
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: seventeen game season. I mean, the whole thousand yard thing. Really,
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: when they went to fourteen games it you know, and
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: then they went to sixteen and now it's seventeen. Not
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: we have to recliber what a good running season is now.
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: You know, it should be more like we don't have
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: to recalibrate what a good touchdown past season is. Well
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: we should yeah, less than two a game. I mean,
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: you know, what's the record fifty five. How many did it?
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: Maynay have? What's the record now for I don't know
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: what the reck that's funny. I think it's fifty eight,
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: isn't it fifty eight? Mahomes broke it broke? Yeah? Okay, Wow,
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: that's a lot of touchdowns. Um uh, let's see team
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: sacks forty I mean they have last year. That's that's
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: that's always my benchmark for like a good defense. Forty sacks.
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: How they have last year, I'm gonna say under thirty six.
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: I'm gonna say I'm gonna say over forty. It doesn't
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: seem like a very high number to me. I think
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: that'd be a good sign if they're over for it,
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: I'll say over. But I might be wrong. I think
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: that that's traditionally been my benchmark for for a good
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: pressure defense. Forty plus and finally fifty one year over under.
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: How many times Paul says the Patriots are the inferior
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: team seventeen over no under under? The play the Jets
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: twice they play I'll take it seriously. Who else? Oh,
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: Chicago and Detroit? It's four right there? Um, but I
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: will be going to the game this weekend from here
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: in Tampa I'll be staying in Fort Lauderdale. Are you
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: guys aware of any Patriots pregame parties and will you
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: guys be attending? Would love to buy you guys a
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: beer or diet PEPSI I don't, I'm not aware. But again,
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: I know there is a strong Fort Lauderdale fan club. Um,
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: it's the South Florida Patriots. I believe it's run by
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: a guy who you know grew up here. Again, go
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: on the Patriots fan club registry and Patriots dot com. Uh,
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: it's in the fan zone. Look up the registry type
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: in Florida and all the Florida fan clubs will pop
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: up and then you can, you know, go buy town
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: or city and you can contact them if you want
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: to get in touch. It's a good resource. Uh. It's
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: one that not a lot of teams have, but the
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: Patriots do so take advantage of it. So there, that's
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: twice twice in one show. We got well. I think
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: you know, I think, Um, we have to talk about
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: that more and more because you know, times you're getting
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: a little tougher. Right, get a band together. We have
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: to band together, We have to, we have to stick together. Yeah,
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: I mean just speaking like my experiences of going you know, Seattle,
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: UM San Francisco, San Diego a few times. Like it's
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: it's always just so such a cool experience to just
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: show up to a stadium randomly in America and then
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: just meet a bunch of people who are like, these
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: are my people. All right, we're all you know. It's
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: just like an instant kind of a bonding and community.
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: So I love that more we can connect people. It's
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: it's great. All right, that's gonna be it for this
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: edition of Patriots Unfiltered. We'll be back tomorrow Thursday with
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: another show at noon. Alex will call in from the practice, Yeah,
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: wet Beach, and we have picks, our first picks of
