- 0:02[SPEAKER_01]: is the Steve Downs, the voice of Master Chief, Spartan 1-1-7, with an incoming message for Ryan Green and all, we'll listen to the podcast It Just Works, let's finish the fight.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_01]: Listen up, Chief, out.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, everyone and welcome to the HSworks podcast, I'm your host Ryan and I'm so excited to be back.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's been about a month and a half, it's been way too long.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_00]: If you're familiar with the show, you know that around this time of the year, I get super busy with work, with Easter being such a big holiday for my business and then obviously Coachella and Sage Coach.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's a massive, massive time of the year when it comes to business.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: So I apologize for the lack of episodes, but I'm so excited to be back.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: There's like six of them that I've wanted to record between Pokemon and Fallout and Halo and Super Mario movie.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: So there's a lot to record.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll kind of get into it today.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, I hope you're all doing really good out there.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: And I appreciate you listening to the last episode.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's one of the best best episodes I've had in about a year or more.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: so I appreciate all the support with the show and everyone's still sticking around.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'm really tired of saying that because if you're again, if you're listening, it's been happening a lot lately.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: One day I will figure it out and get back to the schedule.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: I did have a new content idea.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: But I think we'll kind of ease me back into creating content.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: I love sharing my opinion of my favorite games, movies, and just content overall.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: Whether it be pop culture, music, you guys know how it works.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I love sharing it with you because you guys have amazing opinions as well.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: And I really love talking back and forth about...
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: What we love, what we don't like, and what we hope for our favorite franchises.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: So I have this new idea for YouTube I don't I can't really do live streaming with my setup, but I can do like essentially less play content So I was thinking of calling it walking tall because I am tall and we were basically walking through this game together And I was just thinking of I was thinking that'd be really cool to play a game and have commentary over it live commentary too
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: So there's no editing so it's all natural and organic and it's just me talking about the games Why I love them some you know talking about the levels themselves because Halo is like a huge one And I think it would be really cool to talk about So if any of you are listening to this please let me know if you like that idea knowing that someone out there might be interested in that
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: and, you know, being able to share what they love about, a certain game, or whatever I do, would mean a lot to me.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: So, please reach out to me on TikTok, or Instagram, it just works podcast.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_00]: I would love to hear your guys' opinion.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_00]: Today, we're here to talk about Pokemon, PocoPia, or PocoPia.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: I believe both of them can be pronounced the same, based off the way the word is, and then how it's spelled.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: But I love calling it PocoPia and also PocoPia.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_00]: So, even though I'm pretty sure it is PocoPia, I would like to talk about it.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'm 60 hours into the game, which is honestly nothing compared to what you really could do if you wanted to 100%.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: I believe 100% could take 100 hours, but I think at the end of the day it comes down to what you want to get out of the game, and it's what you make of it.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: This game, when it was first announced,
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: you know I think Brian was on the podcast when he talked about the direct or the book one presents and he was very lukewarm still hasn't played the game but I was excited and
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'm excited for any new Pokemon spin-off.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: I'll give it a shot.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: I just felt like it could be like a breath of fresh air.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: There was a lot of reservations with a lot of people based on like performance.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: The way it looks, it looks like it was canto again, which it is canto again.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: But I think the trailer really focused on canto Pokemon, obviously, because we're in that region.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: But when it comes to the like the full release, the team that was behind it.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: So it's, um,
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: the team behind Dragon Builders, Dragon Quest Builders, excuse me, and those games are highly regarded, well-received, and really well-crafted games, and I feel like that kind of fell under the rug until about leading up to the release of Pokemon Pocopia.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: Airpookupia.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_00]: She didn't call them both throughout the episode.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: So a lot of people didn't really know and if you Unless you've played the Dragon Quest Builders games, which I haven't, but I've seen them and they look really fun.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: So you know, kind of looking into that and seeing the videos of people saying like hey, like this is the team behind it.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: They look very, you know It looks like they're talented, obviously, and they know what they're doing so it made it a lot easier to
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: kind of see like you know what's going on with this game like I said I know I knew I was gonna buy it no matter what
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's a spin-off and I want to support Pokemon spin-offs because I think some of the best Pokemon games are spin-offs, or just deviating from the main course of the traditional formula of the games.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: And right when you open this game, if you see in the trailer as you know that the Kanto region isn't the same, that it's almost like post-apocalyptic, and you come to find out it is, I will not spoil the story of the game.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: I would like to point that out.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: everything I'm going to talk about is in the trailers or and if I do spoil anything I apologize I'm really going to try not to because I think this game what makes it great if you haven't played yet or if you're still playing it is the conclusion to the main quest which there's a lot of quest you can do they're called they're called tasks but it's the same thing and right when you start this game it's very ominous it's a ditto you play as a ditto who replicates its trainer
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: You can do a little bit of customization and the trainer takes the form of its trainer based off of what it remembers and takes its trainer's polka dex and essentially runs into Professor Tan Grove who like once the work with the ditto to recreate our rebuild the polka mon center because Professor Tan Grove believes that this will bring humans back.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: because the Pokemon Miss humans, you know, in the Pokemon World and, you know, in the main lore that we're experiencing with the games, the, you know, Pokemon and humans live in harmony and they love each other and they're great partners and, you know, obviously some work together and battle and so many different things, right?
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: But in this universe, uh, in this timeline, you know, the Pokemon Miss having humans around, a lot of them coexisted with humans or
- 6:47[SPEAKER_00]: So Professor Tan growth believes that, you know, recruiting Pokemon by creating them, creating habitats and working with them and increasing their comfort level while also rebuilding a Pokemon Center will help bring humans back.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a great concept that allows people to have some kind of purpose and reason to have fun building and crafting, because this game is essentially Minecraft and Animal Crossing and Pokemon all out of Baby and Dragon Quest Builders, and it gives the player a purpose to their actions, and I think that's fantastic, because I played Minecraft when it was a beta when I was in high school, and I didn't really know what to do.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: vastly since then and there is a purpose to Minecraft.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: No doubt about it.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: Animal Crossing.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: I never really got into it.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: I have a lot of respect for the franchise, especially all the fans who got the play new horizon during the COVID.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't really get to appreciate it and I couldn't get into it when I finally purchased the game.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: I tried really hard.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's just not for me.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: So there could be a purpose there but all it really seems like from what I
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: complete what feels like, you know, being a puppet to Tom Nook and these stupid deaths that you have to pay up and I don't know.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_00]: It just didn't sit with me.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: There's no doubt about it though.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's an amazing franchise and an amazing game.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't want to take anything away from that.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, with Pokemon Polkopia, there's just this great purpose of like, hey, let's rebuild these towns and bring back the humans.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: And so essentially, you do this throughout the game.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_00]: And as you complete a certain task, you can unlock new areas and abilities to create new habitats and unlock even more Pokemon.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: I believe the Polkadex goes up to 300 Pokemon.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: The Pokemon themselves are the stars of the game, aside from Ditto, just being cute.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of the Pokemon, you could tell what they would sound like with their personalities.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's Kyoga, it sounds like a Texan, just super twingy, but it's also their dialogue.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: Like Magic Harps' Yo, like what he says Yo, and like I don't know, it's funny as hell shout out Jesse, if he ever hears this.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: I just love the personalities of the Pokemon themselves.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: They're really caring for each other.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: They play.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: I was logging in last night, and Sizzor was playing tag with, well, not tag, but they were playing cops robbers, I guess.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: They were chasing each other as much lax and Sizzor, and they were chasing each other around this certain area.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_00]: Actually, they did like a couple laps, and
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: and since I was getting kind of crazy with it, like jumping around and munchlacks with chasinum and it just looked adorable and and just fun and natural, like this game just has a lot of moments that I think so many of us Pokemon fans have been asking for when it comes to like these creatures and just seeing them be, you know, creatures, because in so many of the mainline games they just seem so stoic, robotic, you know, the 3D era just has not
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's been really difficult when it comes to animations and just the Pokemon seeming more alive.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I just feel like this spin-offs when you think of like Pokemon Snap and uh, Pokemon Pocopia, like they do such a good job of making these Pokemon feel real and you're empathetic towards them, you care about them.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_00]: But they seem like natural and animalistic, right?
- 10:15[SPEAKER_00]: Because they are, they're creatures and just seeing them in their natural habitat and and like what they can do with
- 10:20[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just a lot of fun, but also Ditto itself gets All these abilities and learns moves from Pokemon like cut rock smash you get to turn into Graveler and he's rollout Which all this abilities are in a trailer even the Dragonite one I mean you can beat the transform into a Dragonite and glide around
- 10:40[SPEAKER_00]: there's another one where you can become a lapress and then, you know, eventually you'll unlock magnumite, which again, these are all in the trailers, so it's not real spoilers, I just won't say how you get them, and when you get them.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: So all the abilities make the game a ton of fun as well and make it fun to craft and
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: Terraform and just create structures and create your own villages or towns or cities and I think that's one of the greatest things about the game is it doesn't limit you to Like one one environment.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't limit you to one
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: Um, biome or setting or just visual representation.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: And what I mean by that is like, if you want to just do a village and kind of make it look like, hey, it is post a apocalypse, post a apocalypse, like I'm going to have a village like we're starting over, you know, we don't have technology.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: Like you could do that.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: and then there's certain parts where you can have technology and you can create towns and cities you can recreate the towns that the world is in.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: For instance, the first island that you start off on right out the gate when you open the game.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: You start in fuchsia city.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they have this safari zone.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: They have all this.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: They have the gym leader, Koga's gym.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: or Janice Jim, depending on which one you want to recognize, you know, the guy who has the gold teeth, you can get strength at the age of him, and then the little habitats for the Pokemon that are outside of the safari.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's Fuchsia City, but when you load up the game, it doesn't look like that.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: So if you want to recreate Fuchsia City, technically you can.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: You can totally make it happen.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: So I think the fact that you can like recreate the city, or go a little bit more barbaric, or even futuristic, depending on the items,
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: is I just think it's remarkable because it allows there to be no limit to your creativity.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: And again, the Pokemon themselves can help you out, whether it's getting items, completing tasks, making them happy, like I said, and giving them a home, they're so grateful to just be cared about, cared for, and have a connection to each other and did oh itself.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: So, I don't know, I just think like the game is such a breath of fresh air.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's very well crafted.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: It performs great at 60 frames per second.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: The graphics look good.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: They're fun.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's a cute animation and art style.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the animations are cute and the art style is great.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: They just, they nailed it, man.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like this game is worth your time if you haven't played it yet.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, we play Legends EA and we've talked about it profusely, and I think the game's like a 7 out of 10, you know?
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: But Pokemon, Pocopia, or Pocopia is easily a 9.8 out of 10.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think the only things I would have done differently are like,
- 13:32[SPEAKER_00]: adding like 500 Pokemon to the Pokédex, adding some of the more favorites, because at some points that you can tell it, they just like, okay, we just want to put these starters in here, and I talk about this all the time and like TCG and the games themselves, like, I hate when things are broken up, like, if there's a right coup card or alternate art, but there's not like an end to it, so we can grow it on, right?
- 13:53[SPEAKER_00]: So Rayquaza gets a badass card, but grout on them and Kyogur don't.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_00]: So stuff like that, unfortunately, like always bothers me, and I think it always will, because we're so connected to the Pokedexes and the regions that they come from.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I think there's a massive variety of Pokemon in this game, like I didn't know that.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_00]: The minor spoiler, I guess, but you pretty much find out right out the game about this Pokemon, but at least within like an hour or two of gameplay, so I feel like it's not too crazy.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: So spoilers and one, two, three, I guess.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_00]: So Tyrunton, Tyrandtram, the fossil Pokemoner in the game, and I think it's so badass that they're in the game.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like I was talking about with Legends EA, how I was
- 14:33[SPEAKER_00]: You know, sad that these Pokemon haven't been any of the mainline games and pretty much since Sun and Moon, so seeing them again in Pokemon and Poco Pia, and being able to work with them and create habitats for them is so cool.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: And then getting Charizard, and I mean, there's just so many Pokemon.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even know where to start.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_00]: The 300 Pokemon they put in the game are fabulous, like they did a really good job.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_00]: It I can't imagine how difficult it must have been to pick some Pokemon because obviously there's so many of my favorites left out But there's so many of my favorites that are in the game so it's really difficult to like be truly disappointed and I think the other thing is
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: There was something else that I'm forgetting right now.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's something to do with multiplayer, but regardless, I think that the game is a benchmark for how to make a game.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_00]: And not necessarily undersell it, but not get too overzealous about it.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I hope that this game either gets a sequel or expansion DLCs, like expansions.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think that I don't I know it's unfortunate like life life service game sucks or a life service game sucks And I think we're tired of this era just like we were tired of micro transactions, but I do think like expanding on this game
- 15:49[SPEAKER_00]: you know, continue to update it, have events with Pokemon, like the first event was hop-up, and so you can get, you can get a hop-up and do a little task for a hop-up, and it's really cool.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_00]: You can earn exclusive rewards, and then the second one's not out yet, but you can just change your date and find it.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think that this game should keep getting updated, keep getting expanded islands that create more of a story.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_00]: the story in this game is so beautiful the ending like almost had me tearing up because of what happens and there's a lot of journals and dialogue in this game that it's through text there's no like voice acting but please if you care about story there is a story to be told here and how
- 16:34[SPEAKER_00]: things came to be what they are.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: I still think there's questions left, but aren't answered, but man, is there some really sad moments in this game?
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that while Pokemon is obviously aimed for kids and it's the same for everyone, but I think some of the darker tone stuff is always appreciated because it's always been subtle and Pokemon.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: for the most part, and they nailed it again here.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_00]: And one of the cool things is they have dream islands in this game, and it allows you to use a polky doll to go to a specific island because there's different variants.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_00]: And you can actually unlock different costumes for mainline characters.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't have it yet.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: I've been really tried.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_00]: I've been trying really hard to get his outfit But you can get like reds outfit his champion outfit and I think that'd be so bad as to get it from fire and leaf cream So you can get outfits in the game as well.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_00]: You can customize it a little bit by changing his hair Skin tone, I think you can even do like ditto skin tone, but still look like a trainer.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, oh, that's actually pretty badass not for me, but it's pretty cool
- 17:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the game just like cuteness overload it.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's it's a great cozy game if you're looking for something that like turn your brain off Have a lot of fun See some great dialogue and kind of continue to help Pokemon and you know make make them happy I think this game is for you.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_00]: It's it's easily one of my favorite games of all time easily my favorite switch to game I'm so impressed with it
- 18:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'm still trying to think of like if I have any issues with it and I honestly can't say I do I think the only thing I would say that doesn't like take away from the 9.8 because this game is basically a masterpiece Like it games a damn 10 because that you know what it is a 10 because I'm gonna take that back It is a 10 because it launched feature complete.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't need to update to run.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's It's so good from start to finish.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_00]: You feel like you get your money's worth if if this game like
- 18:36[SPEAKER_00]: I would be shocked if this game isn't for a lot of Pokemon fans, which clearly it is because it's sold like 2.2 million copies, pretty much, it's first, I think, weaker, whatever.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, the game is being sold out constantly.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think one of the unfortunate things is it's not
- 18:56[SPEAKER_00]: on the game card.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: So if you buy the game, it's technically just a key card which is just the license.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_00]: So when you put it in your switch to it allows you to download the game and then play it.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_00]: So it's the same thing as just owning it digitally.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_00]: So just my two cents is just buy it digitally.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_00]: So you can have your favorite cartridge game card that actually is on the cartridge, like my current world for instance, in your console and then you can switch to PocoPita whenever you want.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_00]: So that's my advice.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously if you have kids, they might find a lot of sentiment behind, you know, playing it on the key card, which I totally understand.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_00]: My niece loves it.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: Me and my fiance got it for birthday and it sounds like she's really loving the game.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 19:37[SPEAKER_00]: Um, yeah.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, my nephew's or my nephew loves it too when my god shut out to miles and Marcie.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, just Incredible kids just playing and I think that's one of my favorite things to is like I'm seeing miles play it and he's just I'm really shocked at how far he got on his own I think only a little a bit help from Eric and casual gamer, but
- 19:59[SPEAKER_00]: Just seeing how happy he is to create his own area.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_00]: My fiance plays it too, shout out to her.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_00]: Savannah fucking, she plays it and she has a really good time.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_00]: And just to see what she did with her island and what miles and I'll see more she's eventually.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_00]: But just to see what everyone is doing differently, but still it looks amazing is also really satisfying to me, like very satisfying.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_00]: So, uh, yeah, I just wanted to come on here and record an episode and talk about my love for Pokemon Pocopia.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_00]: If you've played it, let me know.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: If you haven't played it, let me know if you plan to.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_00]: I would love to talk to anyone about it.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_00]: If, if you're curious about this game, still I hope that this episode helps.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_00]: I just think this game is a really good time.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's very satisfying.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_00]: It feels rewarding if it feels like it's actually worth your money, your effort, and I think in a day and age where money is everything in terms of money and time or everything with our jobs and just being busy or if you want to get the right product for your kid and make sure that they get the most out of it, I think something like this game is really good to you because Minecraft has been so educational,
- 21:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think Minecraft is more creative, I think in terms of like the building space, but Pokemon Pocopia, you can do a lot of stuff in here.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_00]: I know people have already made like calculators like the first couple days.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_00]: People have done a lot of stuff that I think might lead to spoilers, so I don't really want to say it.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I think there's so many elements to that are from the games in here, besides like battling, there is no battling, but you almost, you definitely remember that Pokemon isn't just battling, and it's about their relationships and bonds that you can create, and this game really solidifies that statement.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_00]: So, that's my two cents on Pokemon, Pokopia, Pokopia,
- 22:00[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I appreciate all of you listening so much.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_00]: I did finish fire red and leaf green.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to probably go back and play it.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I'm really having a hard time juggling playing all these games.
