Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken Plus. It's your extra dose
- 0:05Speaker 1: of the hottest influencer and pop culture news. I'm Kate
- 0:08Speaker 1: Torber and coming up on today's show, Indy Clinton sparks
- 0:12Speaker 1: debate about the tooth fairy, Laura Byrne and Maddie J
- 0:15Speaker 1: welcome baby number three, and the controversial AI photos of
- 0:19Speaker 1: Liam Payne and Kate Cassidy. But first, Sarah's Day has
- 0:23Speaker 1: unveiled the fancy drinks her and her husband Kurt like
- 0:26Speaker 1: to drink at night time. And I was pretty interested
- 0:29Speaker 1: to see because She and Kurt don't drink alcohol and
- 0:32Speaker 1: I'm all for having like a nice pick-me-up drink after
- 0:35Speaker 1: I've put my son to bed to go with my meal.
- 0:37Speaker 2: So I was like, oh, this is going to be cool.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Like I'm guessing it will be a fancy mocktail with
- 0:42Speaker 1: maybe some fruit in it, some pomegranate.
- 0:45Speaker 2: However, I was really disappointed.
- 0:46Speaker 1: She got wine glasses out, put ice cubes in. and
- 0:49Speaker 1: then mixed up some of her electrolytes that she's spruiking.
- 0:52Speaker 1: And I was like, is that it? I think she
- 0:54Speaker 1: realized how boring it was. And then she got some
- 0:56Speaker 1: sort of like collagen syrup out of the fridge and
- 0:58Speaker 1: poured it on top. I don't know if that makes
- 1:00Speaker 1: it more interesting. That sounds like something you drink in
- 1:01Speaker 1: the morning before you do a workout, not something that
- 1:03Speaker 1: you unwind to at nighttime. I was like, God, is
- 1:06Speaker 1: this how dire the Hyro situation has gotten off the
- 1:08Speaker 1: back of that? I'm guessing failed campaign because it seems
- 1:11Speaker 1: to be a lot of it still available. I'm like,
- 1:13Speaker 1: And they're now having to spruik at us our nighttime drink.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Maybe they're like, girl, I've got so many of these
- 1:18Speaker 1: sachets left.
- 1:18Speaker 2: We've got to get rid of them.
- 1:20Speaker 1: One thing I did relate to that Sarah said, though,
- 1:22Speaker 1: is the fact it feels fancy to drink any drink
- 1:25Speaker 1: from a wine glass, even if it's not wine. Yeah,
- 1:27Speaker 1: I got a flashback on Snapchat and it was like
- 1:29Speaker 1: two years ago and I used to drink my kombucha
- 1:32Speaker 1: out of one of those Target coupe glasses at nighttime.
- 1:35Speaker 1: And I'm like, I have to bring that back because
- 1:37Speaker 1: I think especially having a young child, your nighttimes, are
- 1:42Speaker 1: so exciting now. Like once they're in bed, you're like,
- 1:44Speaker 1: fuck yes, this is me time. Well, you need to
- 1:47Speaker 1: romanticize those times. Well, I've been drinking sodally. I'm trying
- 1:50Speaker 1: to get off Coke Zero. I spoke about it on
- 1:52Speaker 1: another episode, but they're that good. And I always have
- 1:55Speaker 1: to make sure I have ice in my drink though.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I feel like it just doesn't seem like a treat
- 1:59Speaker 1: if it doesn't have ice in it. I am deep
- 2:01Speaker 1: in my Coke Zero era. I hate saying the word era.
- 2:04Speaker 1: I feel like an annoying Gen Z-er, but we have
- 2:06Speaker 1: been buying the slabs of Coke, no sugar in a can.
- 2:10Speaker 1: And I feel like that is a game changer. I
- 2:12Speaker 1: can't have it out of the bottle now. Oh, I
- 2:13Speaker 1: saw a guy on TikTok rating the Coke Zero experience.
- 2:17Speaker 1: He rated the two liter bottles as the worst. And
- 2:20Speaker 1: it's true.
- 2:20Speaker 2: They do not taste.
- 2:21Speaker 1: As good as the 1.25 or obviously the cans or
- 2:24Speaker 1: the smaller bottles either.
- 2:25Speaker 2: No, they really don't.
- 2:26Speaker 1: But you were asking before about drink of choice and
- 2:29Speaker 1: I have to put it out there. Amy has got
- 2:32Speaker 1: me into the Celsius energy drinks.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Where do you get these from?
- 2:35Speaker 1: I don't even know the brand. I have no idea
- 2:37Speaker 1: where she got it from, but I've heard about it
- 2:39Speaker 1: because Saffron Barker is a big fan of them. She's
- 2:41Speaker 1: always spruiking them. And usually you can only get them
- 2:43Speaker 1: in America, but I think Amy's found somewhere that sells them.
- 2:46Speaker 1: She brought one over for me. It was a watermelon
- 2:48Speaker 1: flavored one. And obviously having a young baby, there's a
- 2:52Speaker 1: lot of early mornings and I had one of these
- 2:55Speaker 1: and I Oh my God, it put a pep in
- 2:57Speaker 1: my step. I think it's important to point out that
- 2:59Speaker 1: we don't drink coffee. So that's why you're looking for
- 3:01Speaker 1: something that's going to pep you up. It's not coffee
- 3:03Speaker 1: because we get.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Headaches if we have it. Well, that's not why I
- 3:05Speaker 2: don't have mine. I just don't like the taste.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I was talking a mile a fucking minute on this thing.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I was like, wow, I feel on top of the world,
- 3:11Speaker 1: but I don't want to become reliant on it. I've
- 3:13Speaker 1: only had one so far. Amy must be deep in
- 3:15Speaker 1: like beverage TikTok if that's even a thing because she
- 3:18Speaker 1: was telling me about this amazing energy drink that's like
- 3:22Speaker 1: a matcha one from Stephen Bartlett's brand? Well, this one
- 3:25Speaker 1: has green tea extract in it and it's got no sugar.
- 3:27Speaker 1: So it's supposed to be healthier than I suppose a monster,
- 3:31Speaker 1: but it's still not great for you.
- 3:32Speaker 2: It's still an energy drink.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Yeah. I was going to say, I don't know if
- 3:34Speaker 1: any energy drinks are healthy. Well, when I worked in
- 3:37Speaker 1: breakfast radio, I was one of the few people who
- 3:41Speaker 1: didn't drink coffee. My little treat would be at the
- 3:45Speaker 1: end of a shift. So I would start at, I'd
- 3:47Speaker 1: have to be in there at 4 a.m., And because
- 3:50Speaker 1: I only did it part time, I could leave at
- 3:52Speaker 1: nine and I'd be driving home and everyone else was
- 3:55Speaker 1: driving to work. And I would stop at the little
- 3:57Speaker 1: bakery at Brighton and get myself a lentil pie.
- 3:59Speaker 2: And that was my treat.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Oh, I thought you were going to say Coke Zero
- 4:01Speaker 1: or Frozen Coke. No. I can't drink Coke Zero in
- 4:04Speaker 1: the morning.
- 4:04Speaker 2: It just seems wrong. Just a warning.
- 4:07Speaker 1: If you are listening to this podcast out loud with
- 4:09Speaker 1: little ears, I think you should pop some headphones in
- 4:11Speaker 1: because we will be discussing the magical world of the
- 4:13Speaker 1: Tooth Fairy. Indy Clinton has sparked debate about how much
- 4:17Speaker 1: money kids should receive from the Tooth Fairy. The TikToker
- 4:20Speaker 1: rage baited her audience by pretending to give her son
- 4:23Speaker 1: $ 150 for his first tooth. So if it was clear
- 4:27Speaker 1: from the get-go, Indy was taking the role of the
- 4:29Speaker 1: Tooth Fairy very seriously. Yeah, I really like this. As
- 4:33Speaker 1: a new parent, this is something that I can't wait
- 4:35Speaker 1: to do, create those magic moments. And Indy said that
- 4:38Speaker 1: while she has been Father Christmas and also the Easter Bunny,
- 4:41Speaker 1: She's ready for this new role and she definitely did
- 4:44Speaker 1: put a lot of effort into it. So she created
- 4:47Speaker 1: a whimsical fairy character called Opal and she bought this
- 4:51Speaker 1: cute little fairy jar, which she filled with blue glitter
- 4:54Speaker 1: for the note and money to go in.
- 4:56Speaker 2: It was all very wholesome, but her biggest.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Concern was what she was going to do with the
- 5:00Speaker 1: tooth afterwards. So her fairy character Opal was going to
- 5:04Speaker 1: use it as a wheelbarrow for her fairy house and
- 5:07Speaker 1: But as for Indy, she had no idea what to
- 5:09Speaker 1: actually do with it. And big Ed had a suggestion
- 5:12Speaker 1: of his own. He said, just throw it in the bin.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Now that I have a baby, I'm like, I could
- 5:18Speaker 1: never throw any of his teeth in the bin. And
- 5:19Speaker 1: it kind of makes me feel bad for calling our
- 5:22Speaker 1: mom out because on the podcast before we've spoken about
- 5:25Speaker 1: the fact that she was a dental therapist for 40
- 5:27Speaker 1: years and she was very strict about what we could eat.
- 5:29Speaker 1: We were never allowed to drink orange juice, soft drink.
- 5:32Speaker 1: We only had soft drink on the weekend, which You know,
- 5:35Speaker 1: it's now seems like we're rebelling and having it every day. Anyway,
- 5:38Speaker 1: when it came to our teeth, I think she talked
- 5:41Speaker 1: you and I into saying, oh, we want to keep
- 5:42Speaker 1: our teeth. So the tooth fairy actually never took our teeth.
- 5:46Speaker 1: She left them. But Amy was like, no, I want
- 5:47Speaker 1: the tooth fairy to take them. We had this book
- 5:49Speaker 1: growing up about how the tooth fairy would take the
- 5:52Speaker 1: teeth and build a castle out of them. So I
- 5:55Speaker 1: think Amy wanted to help the tooth fairy with her castle. However,
- 5:59Speaker 1: when we were older, we discovered that mum had kept
- 6:02Speaker 1: all of our teeth, including Amy's. In these, like, gherkin
- 6:05Speaker 1: jars in the back of the pantry?
- 6:07Speaker 2: No, I have to defend Mum.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Our teeth, because we chose to keep them, they were
- 6:10Speaker 1: preserved in nice little boxes, whereas because she had to
- 6:13Speaker 1: hide Amy's teeth, hers were the ones in a gherkin
- 6:16Speaker 1: jar filled with water. But couldn't she have just hid
- 6:18Speaker 1: Amy's in a box somewhere else? I think she was
- 6:20Speaker 1: afraid that she would find them. Imagine searching in the
- 6:22Speaker 1: pantry looking for gherkins and being like, ah! Well, kids'
- 6:26Speaker 1: teeth are so little as well. I mean, Indy almost
- 6:28Speaker 1: lost the tooth during the filming of the videos. The
- 6:31Speaker 1: thing is, I suppose you don't want to be burying
- 6:32Speaker 1: them in the backyard. Like, that's going to be a
- 6:34Speaker 1: bit creepy.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Sorry, I'm so confused. Why would you bury them in
- 6:37Speaker 2: the backyard? Well, I'm trying to work out what.
- 6:38Speaker 1: You do with them. I'm thinking, like, when your pet
- 6:40Speaker 1: passes away, you bury them and, like, teeth kind of.
- 6:42Speaker 2: That's fucking odd.
- 6:43Speaker 1: I'm sorry, just throw them in the bin if you're
- 6:44Speaker 1: going to get rid of them like that. You wouldn't
- 6:46Speaker 1: bury them. They'd probably think there's a murder that's going on.
- 6:48Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying. I'm just trying to work out, like,
- 6:49Speaker 2: what would you actually do?
- 6:50Speaker 1: Like, what are you supposed to do with them? Can
- 6:51Speaker 1: parents send in and say what they've done with their
- 6:53Speaker 1: child's teeth? Because I'm very intrigued. Getting back to this
- 6:56Speaker 1: story though, Indie really does have TikTok down to a
- 7:00Speaker 1: fine art. She is fantastic at drawing an audience in.
- 7:04Speaker 1: So she started the video by shocking her followers with
- 7:07Speaker 1: just how much Navy would apparently be receiving for his
- 7:10Speaker 1: first tooth. Let's have a listen to what she said.
- 7:13Speaker 2: I thought $ 150 was a good amount for his first tooth.
- 7:17Speaker 1: At all in a moment. Okay. So this was at
- 7:21Speaker 1: the start of her video and I pretty much ran
- 7:23Speaker 1: to the comment section. And as expected, parents were losing
- 7:27Speaker 1: their minds. So one follower said, how much is the
- 7:30Speaker 1: tooth fairy giving in capitals, which received over 800 likes?
- 7:34Speaker 1: Another said, I'll rip my teeth out and you can
- 7:36Speaker 1: be my tooth fairy for $ 150. What do you think
- 7:41Speaker 1: the going rate for a child's tooth should be?
- 7:43Speaker 3: Well, not $ 150.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Like growing up, we used to get $ 1 for our teeth.
- 7:48Speaker 1: That was the going rate. I remember hearing some kids
- 7:51Speaker 1: got a note, like a $ 5 and a $ 10, and
- 7:52Speaker 1: I was.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Like, what the hell?
- 7:54Speaker 1: I mean, I suppose 30 years on with inflation, maybe
- 7:58Speaker 1: it should be a $ 5 note.
- 7:59Speaker 2: I've got no idea, really.
- 8:01Speaker 1: I saw in the comment section there was a teacher
- 8:04Speaker 1: who was suggesting that parents should make sure that they
- 8:08Speaker 1: tell their child that each child has an individual tooth fairy,
- 8:11Speaker 1: so that's why there are differing.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Amounts for kids' teeth.
- 8:15Speaker 1: I mean, you'd probably be like, why have I got
- 8:16Speaker 1: this cheap ass tooth fairy that's giving me fuck all? Yeah,
- 8:19Speaker 1: school makes it so difficult and social media. I mean,
- 8:22Speaker 1: it's the same at Christmas time and also at Easter,
- 8:24Speaker 1: how people just go so over the top. At least
- 8:27Speaker 1: with Christmas, there is the buffer of the six week
- 8:30Speaker 1: holiday break where kids have probably forgotten what they got
- 8:32Speaker 1: for Christmas by then. Now, I do want to point
- 8:34Speaker 1: out that Indy hasn't totally lost her mind. She was,
- 8:38Speaker 1: in fact, rage baiting her followers. because in the video
- 8:41Speaker 1: she pointed out that she was just joking and.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Added a $ 5 note to the jar.
- 8:46Speaker 1: She also said in the comment section that she convinced
- 8:48Speaker 1: herself out of giving $ 150 and decided to spend it
- 8:52Speaker 1: on getting her.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Nails fixed instead.
- 8:54Speaker 1: She did almost get sprung in the act though when
- 8:57Speaker 1: she was performing her role of the tooth fairy, because
- 9:00Speaker 1: when she was creeping into Navy's room to retrieve the tooth, Somehow, Netflix.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Started blaring on her phone.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Oh, no. That's so bad. Bachelor power couple Laura Byrne
- 9:13Speaker 1: and Maddie J have welcomed baby number three.
- 9:16Speaker 2: A beautiful girl called Poppy Pearl Johnson.
- 9:19Speaker 1: I feel like this name was very on theme, particularly
- 9:22Speaker 1: with their first daughter, Marlee May, like the two Ms.
- 9:25Speaker 2: She's got the two Ps.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Their middle daughter, Lola, though, she didn't get an L
- 9:29Speaker 1: middle name.
- 9:30Speaker 2: She is Lola Ellis.
- 9:31Speaker 1: I mean, there's a lot of Ls in Ellis.
- 9:33Speaker 2: It's clear they like very cutesy names.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Now, days prior to the official announcement on Instagram, Matty
- 9:39Speaker 1: J teased his followers that Laura was in labour, so
- 9:42Speaker 1: he uploaded a video of him performing this jokey interpretive
- 9:46Speaker 1: dance to apparently distract her from the contractions. It was
- 9:50Speaker 1: very Meghan Markle of him to do so because he
- 9:52Speaker 1: filmed it whilst he was in the hospital room. I mean,
- 9:55Speaker 1: a little bit different because Meghan was in labour, but
- 9:57Speaker 1: I see where you're coming from with that baby mama dance.
- 9:59Speaker 1: It wasn't the same song though. No. He also shared
- 10:02Speaker 1: a photo of the dreaded leather fold-out hospital chair that
- 10:05Speaker 1: most fathers have to sleep in and wrote, so old foe,
- 10:09Speaker 1: we meet again. But following those posts, it was pretty
- 10:12Speaker 1: much radio silence. And I noticed in the Life Uncut
- 10:15Speaker 1: Facebook group, there were a lot of listeners who were
- 10:17Speaker 1: growing increasingly impatient and saying, oh my God, Laura feels
- 10:22Speaker 1: like a friend.
- 10:22Speaker 2: I want to know what's going on.
- 10:23Speaker 1: I hope she's okay. I hope everything's okay. So on Saturday,
- 10:27Speaker 1: Laura and Maddie J finally broke the news, writing, third
- 10:31Speaker 1: time really is a charm. Our sweet little Poppy girl
- 10:33Speaker 1: is here and we are truly and utterly obsessed with
- 10:36Speaker 1: every inch of you. Poppy Pearl Johnson, welcome to the world,
- 10:39Speaker 1: precious one. Now, the comment section, of course, blew up
- 10:42Speaker 1: and Laura's co-host Brit wrote, there she is, utter perfection
- 10:46Speaker 1: and Poppy is cute too. I found the announcement a
- 10:49Speaker 1: little bit anticlimactic because Matty J already dropped the baby
- 10:53Speaker 1: name on his podcast weeks ago. It wasn't actually even
- 10:56Speaker 1: on his own podcast. It was on the Stellar podcast,
- 10:59Speaker 1: something to talk about, which was even odder. Yeah, I mean,
- 11:01Speaker 1: Laura has spoken a lot about how with baby number three,
- 11:05Speaker 1: she hasn't really been reveling in how magical this experience
- 11:09Speaker 1: is because She's been so distracted with looking after her
- 11:12Speaker 1: two other kids and making sure all their work is
- 11:15Speaker 1: done because she's worked right up until her labor. So
- 11:18Speaker 1: maybe it's just like a case of they got so
- 11:21Speaker 1: used to using the name that it's just slipped out
- 11:23Speaker 1: and they're like, we've got to run with it. I mean,
- 11:25Speaker 1: I was in a similar situation with Jack's name in
- 11:27Speaker 1: terms of with family and friends. I was just telling
- 11:29Speaker 1: everyone his name. Well, he said during this interview with Stella,
- 11:34Speaker 1: we are absolutely excited and cannot wait to meet this
- 11:36Speaker 1: little girl, Poppy. And Laura only found out about the
- 11:39Speaker 1: slip up when a follower asked her during a Q &
- 11:42Speaker 1: A whether she punched Matt in the ovaries for revealing
- 11:45Speaker 1: the baby name. And she responded saying, he did fucking what?
- 11:49Speaker 1: And then later that night, they filmed themselves in bed
- 11:52Speaker 1: while Laura questioned Matty J about it. And initially he
- 11:55Speaker 1: kind of denied it in a joking way, but they
- 11:57Speaker 1: both ended up having a laugh.
- 11:59Speaker 2: And Laura suggested that he obviously just let it slip.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Well, she's got something else to be annoyed at Maddie
- 12:04Speaker 1: about because on one of the most recent episodes of
- 12:06Speaker 1: Life Uncut, the one she filmed just before she gave birth,
- 12:10Speaker 1: she spoke about how this time around she was going
- 12:12Speaker 1: to a private hospital. However, it turns out that Matt
- 12:15Speaker 1: is the one that takes care of all of the
- 12:17Speaker 1: private health insurance. And she kept asking him, oh, can
- 12:20Speaker 1: you send me this form? I need to submit it
- 12:22Speaker 1: to the hospital. And he kept kind of putting it off.
- 12:25Speaker 1: And it turned out that he had accidentally let their
- 12:28Speaker 1: private health insurance lapse back in February. They'd send him
- 12:31Speaker 1: all these emails saying, you need to pay now or
- 12:33Speaker 1: we're going to cut you off. Well, because you need
- 12:35Speaker 1: to have the private health in place, I think, for
- 12:37Speaker 1: a year in order to be able to use its
- 12:40Speaker 1: benefits when you are pregnant. Also, it just cut off
- 12:42Speaker 1: because they weren't paying for it. So it's not even
- 12:44Speaker 1: like they were paying for a lower level of coverage.
- 12:47Speaker 2: They had just stopped paying completely.
- 12:48Speaker 1: And then Britt Hockley's like, oh, maybe cut this out
- 12:51Speaker 1: if you don't want it going out there. But hang on,
- 12:53Speaker 1: weren't you guys ambassadors for Bupa? So it turns out
- 12:57Speaker 1: that they were ambassadors. So I don't know whether through
- 12:59Speaker 1: this ambassador deal they signed them up and then it
- 13:02Speaker 1: got to a point in February where maybe it wasn't
- 13:05Speaker 1: contra anymore and they had to start.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Paying for it or something.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Well, I mean, I don't necessarily think that you get
- 13:09Speaker 1: health insurance as a contra. I feel like there would
- 13:10Speaker 1: be some legalities around it. I think they were probably
- 13:12Speaker 1: just paid by Bupa to be in the ad. Well,
- 13:15Speaker 1: even if that's the case, it's a bit awkward that
- 13:16Speaker 1: they're promoting this private health insurance that they don't actually have. Mm-hmm. Well,
- 13:20Speaker 1: I am very intrigued to hear how they're going. I
- 13:23Speaker 1: hope that Laura does return at some point when she's
- 13:25Speaker 1: ready to do an interview because she said that she's
- 13:27Speaker 1: expecting the worst but hoping for the best. Now, that
- 13:30Speaker 1: is the wise words of someone who has.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Previously had two other children.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Yeah, well, it's interesting because she hasn't set a return
- 13:36Speaker 1: date on Life Uncut. She said that, you know, who knows,
- 13:39Speaker 1: she might be back in three weeks. She might be
- 13:41Speaker 1: raring to go. Well, Maddie J is replacing her on
- 13:44Speaker 1: The Pickup, which was an interesting choice. I thought maybe
- 13:47Speaker 1: it would have been Keisha. Well, Keisha's filling in for
- 13:49Speaker 1: her on Life Uncut. I mean, I suppose Maddie J
- 13:52Speaker 1: is pretty ambitious and he has been on radio before. So,
- 13:56Speaker 1: and he's got his own podcast. I thought it was
- 13:58Speaker 1: a bit odd though, because I thought he might be
- 13:59Speaker 1: at home with them because there's three kids at home.
- 14:01Speaker 1: But then again, they do have Maddie J's mum living
- 14:04Speaker 1: with them. So I'm sure there will be a lot
- 14:05Speaker 1: of support around. Almost a year on from Liam Payne's
- 14:09Speaker 1: tragic death, his girlfriend Kate Cassidy has generated headlines for
- 14:12Speaker 1: sharing a series of AI-generated images of the couple. In
- 14:16Speaker 1: the photos, Liam is embracing Kate at a recent event
- 14:19Speaker 1: she attended. In a caption to her 956,000 followers, Kate wrote,
- 14:24Speaker 1: AI is a blessing and a curse. She then shared
- 14:27Speaker 1: a video of a box filled with letters, postcards and
- 14:30Speaker 1: Polaroids from Liam and captioned it, Tomorrow is not guaranteed.
- 14:34Speaker 1: I think it's really important to point out that Kate
- 14:36Speaker 1: Cassidy did not actually create these AI images herself. They
- 14:39Speaker 1: were created by a fan. Now, in response to the
- 14:43Speaker 1: AI photos, some One Direction fans said that they felt
- 14:46Speaker 1: uneasy seeing the photos, whilst others said that it's unhealthy
- 14:50Speaker 1: for her to share them. And the media were very
- 14:52Speaker 1: quick to jump on this story. So they reported that
- 14:55Speaker 1: Kate was paying tribute to Liam Conrad. almost a year
- 14:58Speaker 1: out from the anniversary of his death. There was a
- 15:00Speaker 1: lot of noise around the fact that she had shared
- 15:02Speaker 1: these photos. I mean, I personally didn't think it was.
- 15:04Speaker 2: A big deal.
- 15:05Speaker 1: I follow Kate. I saw these photos pop up. I
- 15:08Speaker 1: thought that's a nice way for her to feel connected
- 15:10Speaker 1: to him. I mean, it's all stemming from the fact
- 15:12Speaker 1: that Kate has been receiving a lot of negative attention
- 15:15Speaker 1: for the way she has chosen to mourn her boyfriend,
- 15:17Speaker 1: which I just don't understand. Like everyone mourns things differently.
- 15:21Speaker 1: She is coping the best that she can. I personally
- 15:23Speaker 1: really enjoy seeing her journey with it because It is
- 15:27Speaker 1: quite rare to see someone in the public eye so
- 15:29Speaker 1: openly talking about their journey with grief because often you
- 15:32Speaker 1: just see the person at the funeral.
- 15:34Speaker 2: You then see them a couple of years later. They
- 15:36Speaker 2: seem to be handling things well.
- 15:37Speaker 1: But she often speaks on Instagram about how she's dealing
- 15:41Speaker 1: with it and the ways that she's coping and keeping
- 15:45Speaker 1: Liam's memory alive. She often posts these little signs that
- 15:48Speaker 1: she sees from Liam. And as someone who is a
- 15:50Speaker 1: big One Direction fan, I feel comforted in seeing them.
- 15:53Speaker 1: So she always sees the number 444, which she says
- 15:56Speaker 1: is an angel number. So it shows that Liam is
- 15:59Speaker 1: her guardian angel. She also often sees formations of clouds
- 16:03Speaker 1: in the sky that look like his signature tattoos. And
- 16:06Speaker 1: it was quite sweet because last month for his 32nd birthday,
- 16:10Speaker 1: she commemorated it by baking a cake and writing, happy birthday, Liam.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I know you still have the biggest sweet tooth in heaven.
- 16:17Speaker 1: The thing that is a bit uncomfortable is there are
- 16:19Speaker 1: a lot of One Direction fans who don't like her
- 16:21Speaker 1: because they blame her for Liam's death because she did
- 16:25Speaker 1: leave Argentina a few days before he died. And they
- 16:28Speaker 1: keep saying, why weren't you there for him? I mean,
- 16:31Speaker 1: talk about victim blaming. The woman's had her boyfriend die tragically.
- 16:34Speaker 2: I mean, she's only 25 as well, which blows my mind.
- 16:37Speaker 1: And the thing is a lot of people are saying, oh,
- 16:39Speaker 1: you're only 25.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Speaking about Liam to stay relevant.
- 16:41Speaker 1: It's like, no, she's talking about him because if she
- 16:44Speaker 1: pretended like her life just went on, she'd also be
- 16:46Speaker 1: accused of just using him. I mean, this is the
- 16:49Speaker 1: difficult thing. TikTok is a place where people just spread
- 16:51Speaker 1: hate anyway. So if she wasn't posting about him and
- 16:54Speaker 1: had moved on and was getting on with her life,
- 16:57Speaker 1: she would be trolled for saying how heartless she was
- 16:59Speaker 1: and that she didn't really ever care about Liam. And
- 17:01Speaker 1: now because she does share about how she's dealing with
- 17:03Speaker 1: the grief, it's that she's a clout chaser. So she
- 17:06Speaker 1: couldn't really do anything other than not post online, but
- 17:09Speaker 1: her job is.
- 17:10Speaker 2: As an influencer. She has to earn a living. She
- 17:12Speaker 2: has to make money.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Liam Payne's son was given the inheritance. She hasn't got
- 17:16Speaker 1: any inheritance. And it sounded like Liam was quite close
- 17:19Speaker 1: to popping the question to her as well. So, I mean,
- 17:22Speaker 1: it's very heartbreaking for her and it'd be very difficult
- 17:24Speaker 1: to move on. Now, she did hit back at the
- 17:27Speaker 1: negative comments surrounding the AI images. She posted a video
- 17:30Speaker 1: to her 1.7 million followers on TikTok.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Let's have a listen to some of what she said.
- 17:36Speaker 3: I've said it once before and I'm going to say
- 17:37Speaker 3: it again. Please stop judging the way people grieve. Over
- 17:40Speaker 3: the past few days, I've seen so many posts, so
- 17:42Speaker 3: many news articles even, kind of in a way bashing
- 17:45Speaker 3: me for finding comfort and peace in seeing photos of
- 17:48Speaker 3: me and Liam created with AI. None of you have
- 17:51Speaker 3: ever been in my position and hopefully you never will be.
- 17:53Speaker 3: So please, please kindly stop telling me how to grieve
- 17:56Speaker 3: and how I should be finding comfort and what I
- 17:58Speaker 3: shouldn't be finding comfort in. Grief is so different for everyone.
- 18:01Speaker 3: There is no right or wrong. Grief is not linear.
- 18:03Speaker 3: So this is a message for anybody out there who
- 18:05Speaker 3: is dealing and navigating through grief, I want you to
- 18:08Speaker 3: know that do whatever it takes for you to get
- 18:12Speaker 3: through your days just that little bit more peaceful.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Kate went on to say she appreciated the fans who
- 18:18Speaker 1: made the AI edits and that she hates seeing them
- 18:21Speaker 1: getting criticized too. She also said she understands that people
- 18:24Speaker 1: all over the world are still grieving her boyfriend's passing
- 18:26Speaker 1: and it's a testament to the huge impact he had
- 18:28Speaker 1: on the world. I think we've all got to remember
- 18:31Speaker 1: that grief doesn't necessarily look the same for everyone. This
- 18:34Speaker 1: is a 25-year-old woman who lost her boyfriend in the
- 18:38Speaker 1: most shocking and public circumstances. I just think if this
- 18:42Speaker 1: AI image brings her some comfort and peace, then that's
- 18:45Speaker 1: all that matters. Who are we to judge how she's
- 18:47Speaker 1: dealing with this? Yeah, and she's not the only person
- 18:49Speaker 1: who's lost a partner that shares this type of content.
- 18:51Speaker 1: There is a niche for widows, and people who have
- 18:54Speaker 1: lost partners to share how they're grieving and going through
- 18:57Speaker 1: the process. And then it creates this community where they
- 19:00Speaker 1: can connect with other people who've gone through the same thing.
- 19:03Speaker 1: I think my only worry about these images is that
- 19:06Speaker 1: perhaps they could be causing her more pain because it
- 19:10Speaker 1: is showing how her life could have been because these
- 19:12Speaker 1: are photos of of her at recent events. And she's
- 19:15Speaker 1: probably thinking, Oh God, I just wish Liam was at
- 19:17Speaker 1: this event with me. Yeah. There's been a lot of
- 19:19Speaker 1: discussions about how AI is being used and can potentially
- 19:23Speaker 1: be used in the future to keep people's memories alive.
- 19:28Speaker 2: I find it all a little bit creepy to be honest.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Like, I still remember on Neighbours when Margot Robbie was
- 19:35Speaker 1: playing Donna and she was married to Ringo. Remember that?
- 19:39Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, and he died in a car accident.
- 19:41Speaker 1: And she kept playing his voicemail back over and over
- 19:44Speaker 1: again and listening to it. I still feel sad thinking
- 19:47Speaker 1: about that and it's just really, unsettling.
- 19:51Speaker 2: To think about how far AI technology.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Can go to keep people's memories alive. Well, it would
- 19:56Speaker 1: already be so tough for Kate Cassidy because her boyfriend
- 20:00Speaker 1: was in one of the most famous boy bands. Her
- 20:03Speaker 1: algorithm on TikTok would be full of content of him,
- 20:06Speaker 1: interviews of him. There's so much vision of him around. Yeah. Well,
- 20:10Speaker 1: I think that is all we have time for today.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Thank you so much for joining us for this episode
