- 0:24Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to Opposition Territory here at the Philadelphia
- 0:28Speaker 1: Sports Table podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly sports
- 0:31Speaker 1: podcast show in the world. This April, it'll be thirteen years.
- 0:35Speaker 1: I cannot believe that I'm still in front of this
- 0:37Speaker 1: microphone doing this after thirteen years, and my cost as well.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Thank you very much, Matg. I appreciate that. But yes,
- 0:43Speaker 2: I want to introduce our guests.
- 0:44Speaker 1: This week on Opposition Territories, we dive into the New
- 0:47Speaker 1: York Mets off season and what we can expect from
- 0:50Speaker 1: this team here in twenty twenty six. It's been a
- 0:53Speaker 1: real interesting time for the New York Mets and Mets
- 0:56Speaker 1: Nation overall. We have from a pod of their own
- 1:01Speaker 1: over at home Run Applesauce dot com. We've got our
- 1:03Speaker 1: good friend Maggie Wig and Maggie, thanks so much for
- 1:05Speaker 1: jumping on to dive into the Mets with us this week.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Always, dev it's a pleasure to be here.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I love having you on.
- 1:12Speaker 1: You are a plethora of knowledge when it comes to
- 1:15Speaker 1: the New York Mets, and we're certainly going to get
- 1:17Speaker 1: to the Mets, but I wanted to first get into
- 1:20Speaker 1: a storyline that certainly has some traction during this MLB
- 1:24Speaker 1: off season, and it really deals with a impending what
- 1:30Speaker 1: I think is going to be a salary cap here,
- 1:32Speaker 1: and it's a subject we've talked about on our regular show.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Wanted to get your take, Maggie, because after what the
- 1:37Speaker 1: Dodgers did this offseason with Kyle Tucker and that massive contract,
- 1:41Speaker 1: it just seems inevitable that this is going to happen
- 1:44Speaker 1: for Major League Baseball at this point. Do you think
- 1:47Speaker 1: we're inevitably going to have a salary cap in Major
- 1:50Speaker 1: League Baseball? And should it happen in your opinion?
- 1:53Speaker 3: I mean, there are many arguments to make that it's inevitable,
- 1:57Speaker 3: but I'll also say that it's been inevitable for third
- 2:00Speaker 3: years at this point. And when like when Kyle Tucker
- 2:04Speaker 3: forced the question, Before Kyle Tucker forced the question, Wan
- 2:07Speaker 3: Soto forced the question and then show Hey O Tani
- 2:10Speaker 3: was forcing the question and Aaron like it. Nothing about
- 2:14Speaker 3: this conversation feels substantively different about the last several years
- 2:18Speaker 3: of conversations around a salary cap, Which doesn't mean that
- 2:22Speaker 3: it's not going to happen, but it's more just like
- 2:24Speaker 3: I don't necessarily buy into the idea that we are
- 2:27Speaker 3: now in some sort of different special salary cap situation,
- 2:30Speaker 3: although the owners would love us to think that, okay,
- 2:33Speaker 3: because I think they are really hoping that they go
- 2:36Speaker 3: into this labor situation with the assumption being from the
- 2:40Speaker 3: get go that there's going to be a salary cap
- 2:42Speaker 3: and then they just get to iron out the details.
- 2:45Speaker 1: I do wonder really quick though. I think you make
- 2:47Speaker 1: a great point. I think you make a great point.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I do wonder though, how the smaller market teams are
- 2:52Speaker 1: feeling that squash even more after this Kyle Tucker deal.
- 2:56Speaker 1: And that's where I have that feeling that we may
- 3:00Speaker 1: see this gaining even more traction. Whether or not it
- 3:02Speaker 1: actually happens with the next CBA, who the hell knows,
- 3:05Speaker 1: but that's what because of that squash with the smaller
- 3:08Speaker 1: market teams. That's that's my feeling around it.
- 3:12Speaker 3: I would say, Like to me, I think this is
- 3:14Speaker 3: where some of my cynicism comes in, because I think
- 3:18Speaker 3: that small market teams would feel that squash if their
- 3:23Speaker 3: main goal was winning. But we've never seen any evidence
- 3:27Speaker 3: to that, and a lot of teams that like to
- 3:29Speaker 3: call themselves small markets are playing in actually very large markets.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Teams will love to tell you that they're flat broke
- 3:37Speaker 3: and refuse to show any of it, this fat fact.
- 3:40Speaker 3: And every time some team does, for whatever reason, have
- 3:43Speaker 3: to open their books, lo and behold, they're actually doing
- 3:46Speaker 3: pretty well for themselves.
- 3:47Speaker 2: So Pittsburgh Sirens, you know.
- 3:49Speaker 3: I feel like, ultimately, if there's not a salary cap,
- 3:52Speaker 3: it's going to be for the highly cynical reason that
- 3:57Speaker 3: it's it's unlikely that that the the Union would agree
- 4:01Speaker 3: to any cap without a floor. And the floor is
- 4:04Speaker 3: certainly going to be low enough to be embarrassing for
- 4:06Speaker 3: the sport, but it cannot possibly be low enough to
- 4:11Speaker 3: let the Rockies and the White Sox and the Pirates
- 4:17Speaker 3: continue operating the way they have, and they want to
- 4:20Speaker 3: operate the way they have. They make a lot of
- 4:22Speaker 3: money that way. They don't win a lot of baseball games,
- 4:24Speaker 3: but that's not their goal. So to me, I feel
- 4:28Speaker 3: like the wild card in all of this is that
- 4:31Speaker 3: the smallest market teams, or who likes to present themselves
- 4:36Speaker 3: as the smallest market teams, they might be in a
- 4:39Speaker 3: situation where they would actually have to spend more on payroll,
- 4:42Speaker 3: and I don't think they want that at all.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Point.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Oh, it's I think at the end of the day,
- 4:49Speaker 3: if there is no salary cap, it's going to be
- 4:52Speaker 3: because low key, all the owners are doing really well
- 4:55Speaker 3: right now and making a gazillion dollars, and the more
- 5:01Speaker 3: the more we get into changing salary structure, I think
- 5:05Speaker 3: that they as conservative, as like, relatively like financially conservative folks.
- 5:10Speaker 3: That might actually make them a little nervous.
- 5:13Speaker 2: It's a great point, it absolutely is. Folks.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Let us know what you're thinking about this. Leave us
- 5:17Speaker 1: a comment. If you are watching on YouTube, leave a
- 5:19Speaker 1: comment below. What do you think about a possible Major
- 5:23Speaker 1: League Baseball salary cap? We would absolutely love to hear
- 5:26Speaker 1: from you here at the PST podcast show.
- 5:28Speaker 2: And Maggie, can you let.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Everybody know where they can find you on the innerwebs
- 5:32Speaker 1: out there if they want to connect with you, if
- 5:33Speaker 1: they want to.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Listen to the podcast. You all do such an excellent job.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Let everybody know where they can find you.
- 5:39Speaker 3: So I'm on Blue Sky at Maggie one six'. Two
- 5:42Speaker 3: the SHOW A pot of Their own is also on
- 5:44Speaker 3: Blue sky that's our, HANDLE A pot of Their pot
- 5:47Speaker 3: of Their, own and also On. Twitter BUT i think
- 5:50Speaker 3: most of us do our kind of active engagement around
- 5:53Speaker 3: sports and with our fans On Blue. Sky we are
- 5:56Speaker 3: also at HOME r On applesauce dot, com and you
- 6:00Speaker 3: can find us on all of your favorite podcast.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Aps absolutely always great content over, there. Folks all, right,
- 6:07Speaker 1: now let's get into This New York mets offseason and
- 6:10Speaker 1: what we can expect from this. Team, Maggie, look last,
- 6:14Speaker 1: year before the season, started had you on the podcast.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Here we talked About Juan, soto the excitement surrounding him
- 6:20Speaker 1: coming To New york and within This mets, organization what
- 6:24Speaker 1: he was gonna, do what he was going to mean
- 6:25Speaker 1: for the, team and how he was just the latest
- 6:29Speaker 1: and greatest piece for The mets and he was that
- 6:31Speaker 1: new shiny gem coming, in paid a ton of money for,
- 6:34Speaker 1: him and rightfully, so there was so much excitement Within Mets.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Nation and, then as we, know last season for The
- 6:41Speaker 1: mets was just kind of just me meth for The
- 6:45Speaker 1: mets for a variety of. Reasons for a variety of,
- 6:48Speaker 1: Reasons i'll put that caveat of course out. There So i'm,
- 6:51Speaker 1: wondering as we're reflecting on this past offseason as, Well
- 6:55Speaker 1: i'm wondering how you've been viewing, it, because like with
- 6:58Speaker 1: The mets acquiring some pretty nice pieces and players over
- 7:03Speaker 1: the course of the past couple months here after that
- 7:07Speaker 1: high of last off. Season how do you think these
- 7:10Speaker 1: two off, seasons the two passed off seasons here for The,
- 7:14Speaker 1: mets are different or are they similar in a certain
- 7:17Speaker 1: situation because we have a team that's really spending a
- 7:20Speaker 1: lot of. Money last year didn't really net the results
- 7:23Speaker 1: That Mets nation. Wanted but this year again all in,
- 7:26Speaker 1: like how how is it different or the?
- 7:28Speaker 2: Same in your?
- 7:29Speaker 3: Opinion these have been super different off seasons in a
- 7:32Speaker 3: lot of. WAYS i, mean the main thing is, that
- 7:34Speaker 3: like AND i think why it felt so like top
- 7:38Speaker 3: of the, world you, know after Signing soto and going
- 7:42Speaker 3: into twenty twenty, five is that it was a real additive.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Season The mets team largely stayed the same except for
- 7:48Speaker 3: Adding Juan, soto And i'm THAT i love that math right,
- 7:51Speaker 3: Right but as it turned, out LIKE i, mean if
- 7:54Speaker 3: anybody had guessed what the problem going into last season
- 7:57Speaker 3: was going to, be, like, well the pitching mic you,
- 8:00Speaker 3: know a little bit of a house of, cards and
- 8:01Speaker 3: like somebody blew on that house of cards and it
- 8:03Speaker 3: fell all the way, down, Right so it's you, know
- 8:06Speaker 3: it's nice that like at Least soda wasn't the problem
- 8:08Speaker 3: because we've got him around for a while, longer but you,
- 8:11Speaker 3: know it definitely it. Was it was a huge, BLOW
- 8:14Speaker 3: i think to fan ego last season of just feeling
- 8:17Speaker 3: like we really had things worked out and then not like.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Remotely so this is a super different season because obviously
- 8:25Speaker 3: we've added a lot of, pieces but there was also
- 8:27Speaker 3: loss and like not just a little, bit but a,
- 8:30Speaker 3: ton like almost the, whole like half the starting lineup
- 8:33Speaker 3: has been turned, over and The mets haven't had especially
- 8:37Speaker 3: on the position player, front And mets haven't had a,
- 8:39Speaker 3: turnaround like like a turnover like that in a very
- 8:42Speaker 3: very long. Time so there's sort of this like this
- 8:47Speaker 3: emotional foundation that's been very. Challenging and you, KNOW i
- 8:50Speaker 3: think it's and it's not just like any random guys
- 8:53Speaker 3: who were. Leaving it's you, Know Brandon nemo's was the
- 8:56Speaker 3: longest Tenured. Met, yeah and Both diaz And alonzo were,
- 9:01Speaker 3: huge huge fan favorites for very specific.
- 9:05Speaker 2: REASONS i was shocked When Pete alonzo. Left, yeah.
- 9:09Speaker 3: It was, man that was, Rough AND i MEAN i
- 9:12Speaker 3: wouldn't say at that POINT i wasn't exactly shocked BECAUSE
- 9:14Speaker 3: i felt like the team had been sort of like
- 9:16Speaker 3: telescoping at all all off, season but it was still
- 9:20Speaker 3: like it was just a massive, change you, know for
- 9:23Speaker 3: the first time in six plus, Years, yeah to have
- 9:26Speaker 3: A Pete alonzo Liss mets, team AND i do mean
- 9:30Speaker 3: like the only, time because that guy's never. Hurt he
- 9:33Speaker 3: was always always on that, team always always in that.
- 9:36Speaker 3: Lineup and it's a huge, change AND i think like
- 9:39Speaker 3: that's a hard thing to sort of to sort of
- 9:42Speaker 3: like manage your feelings while still sort of like rationally
- 9:46Speaker 3: thinking about how the roster comes. Together but and it
- 9:50Speaker 3: also it was not improved by the fact that like
- 9:54Speaker 3: all these players, left lots and lots of players, left
- 9:57Speaker 3: and for about the first like two months of the off,
- 9:59Speaker 3: season it was like Poor. Polongo and so we had
- 10:04Speaker 3: this really like low low point for a while where you,
- 10:09Speaker 3: know we were going on a part of their own
- 10:11Speaker 3: Like David stearns is killing me, slowly like it's happening right.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Now and then but there was then this flory of. Activity,
- 10:19Speaker 3: yeah lots of formal apologies To David stearns over the.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Podcast this is often the, case and you, know and
- 10:26Speaker 3: now it's sort of like taking a step. Back it
- 10:29Speaker 3: almost feels like we had a fairly normal off. Season
- 10:32Speaker 3: it was just chunked into like everybody leaves and now
- 10:35Speaker 3: we find. Everybody, yeah but it's still it's it's hard
- 10:38Speaker 3: to really wrap my mind around what this team is
- 10:41Speaker 3: going to look and feel like going into the season
- 10:43Speaker 3: BECAUSE i don't know any of these.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Guys, yeah it's really it's A it's a really good
- 10:47Speaker 1: segue into the next topic, Here maggie, too because you,
- 10:50Speaker 1: know in terms of following especially teams of THE Nl
- 10:53Speaker 1: east That i'm, following and what they're doing during the
- 10:56Speaker 1: course of their off, SEASON i just it makes me
- 10:59Speaker 1: wonder what fasese The mets are truly in rate now
- 11:03Speaker 1: based on this off season and based on that, phase you,
- 11:09Speaker 1: know what what actually is their window is this? Phase
- 11:12Speaker 1: is this more of a retool or a reloading on the.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Fly And i've actually heard some people say this offseason
- 11:19Speaker 1: that this is somewhat of a quote, rebuild WHICH i
- 11:21Speaker 1: don't necessarily know IF i agree with. THAT a, rebuild a,
- 11:25Speaker 1: retool a, reload they're all very in my opinion. DIFFERENT
- 11:29Speaker 1: i wonder how you Know Steve, cohen like his willingness
- 11:33Speaker 1: and desire to spend a ton of money changes what
- 11:35Speaker 1: actually constitutes a retool or a, reload and inevitably what
- 11:40Speaker 1: that means for this. Team, here what are your thoughts
- 11:43Speaker 1: on like that phase that The mets are in right?
- 11:47Speaker 1: Now is it a retool a?
- 11:48Speaker 2: Reload? Like what what are your thoughts? Here, yeah that's
- 11:52Speaker 2: a good.
- 11:52Speaker 3: QUESTION i think you know a lot of the kind
- 11:55Speaker 3: of conversations, around like around like. TEARDOWNS i think come
- 11:59Speaker 3: back to this idea that hasn't really actually been all
- 12:01Speaker 3: that effective in baseball for like the last ten, years
- 12:04Speaker 3: which is this idea of like running your team into
- 12:07Speaker 3: the ground for a few, years picking up your elite
- 12:09Speaker 3: draft picks and then being. Good and the thing, is
- 12:13Speaker 3: like it was working when it was only The cubs doing,
- 12:16Speaker 3: It it was working when it was only The astros doing,
- 12:18Speaker 3: it and then everybody does. It now it doesn't work.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Anymore you, lose you, know you lose ninety five games
- 12:23Speaker 3: and your pick is number eight and your team sucks
- 12:25Speaker 3: just as much as they did last.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Year can only copycats so? Much?
- 12:29Speaker 3: YEAH I AND i also like again coming back to the,
- 12:31Speaker 3: cynicism where LIKE i think most of this idea of
- 12:34Speaker 3: like teardown. Rebuild teardown rebuild is really just about clearing,
- 12:38Speaker 3: payroll operating at as low apparel as you can get away,
- 12:43Speaker 3: with and then maybe if you think you have like
- 12:45Speaker 3: a perfect opening, window then you, know that's when the
- 12:49Speaker 3: typical team will then like spend a little bit of. Money,
- 12:51Speaker 3: Yeah AND i, think, like you, know you AND i
- 12:54Speaker 3: are really lucky because our teams don't don't play that
- 12:57Speaker 3: game right, Right like they. Don't they don't they don't
- 13:01Speaker 3: like pretend that the only way you can get good
- 13:04Speaker 3: is by getting rid of all your good. Players AND
- 13:07Speaker 3: i think more and more fans are becoming aware that
- 13:09Speaker 3: this is all just like a nonsense shell game and
- 13:12Speaker 3: coming around on. It but you, know in terms of
- 13:13Speaker 3: what The mets are, doing and you, KNOW i think
- 13:16Speaker 3: like it's like teams like The mets and The dodgers
- 13:20Speaker 3: and The phillies should never should never be tearing it
- 13:24Speaker 3: all down and rebuilding there's And mets have proven actually
- 13:27Speaker 3: very well that you can wholesale change your loaster and
- 13:33Speaker 3: not stop being competitive, throughout you, Know and this is
- 13:39Speaker 3: and this also it kind of goes against the idea
- 13:42Speaker 3: that you need to be like trading a lot of
- 13:44Speaker 3: players over, Time like you know that they should have
- 13:47Speaker 3: like traded all their players at the middle of the
- 13:49Speaker 3: season last year and gotten lots of, Prospects like, no
- 13:53Speaker 3: they got prospects like steadily over, time trading away like
- 13:58Speaker 3: medium and occasionally good players in certain, Moments but they
- 14:02Speaker 3: never did this like full on tear, down get rid of,
- 14:05Speaker 3: everybody stock up a lot on on prospects in this one.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Moment like it should always be this like, Gradual like
- 14:15Speaker 3: you should always be like trading away players you don't
- 14:17Speaker 3: need anymore and bringing in new prospects and like. It
- 14:21Speaker 3: there should always be this kind of constant like up
- 14:24Speaker 3: and down of like bringing in the right people and
- 14:26Speaker 3: moving out the other.
- 14:27Speaker 2: People, yeah and the, system, yeah, Yes.
- 14:32Speaker 3: AND i think like it was it was clear with
- 14:34Speaker 3: the way the roster was built last year that they
- 14:36Speaker 3: had limited. Flexibility they had lots of players who were
- 14:40Speaker 3: sort of hemmed into certain roles because of their own,
- 14:44Speaker 3: limitations often defensively or they're. Aging AND i think that
- 14:48Speaker 3: was the, idea a big part of the, Idea and
- 14:50Speaker 3: Like David stearns talked a lot about like run prevention
- 14:53Speaker 3: being a big, focus BUT i think the larger focus
- 14:56Speaker 3: WHEN i think about what moves they made for the
- 14:59Speaker 3: roster was about, flexibility and that ultimately IS i think
- 15:05Speaker 3: what the team is trying to do. Now it's not
- 15:07Speaker 3: necessarily like trying to get better or. Worse obviously always
- 15:12Speaker 3: trying to get, better but like more about thinking about
- 15:17Speaker 3: its overall construction and trying to move in a different
- 15:21Speaker 3: direction that allows for just more. Options, yea as the
- 15:26Speaker 3: season goes.
- 15:27Speaker 1: On, yeah there's always moving pieces year after, year off
- 15:30Speaker 1: season after off, season a lot of moving pieces, Again
- 15:33Speaker 1: folks talking To Maggie wigan from a pod of their
- 15:36Speaker 1: own over At Home Run applesauce dot. Com we are
- 15:40Speaker 1: going to take a break here and when we get,
- 15:42Speaker 1: back we've got More mets talk coming your way and
- 15:44Speaker 1: SOME Nl east.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Talk stick with.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Us all, Right we're back with our good Friend Maggie
- 15:50Speaker 1: wigan here as we are diving into The New York
- 15:52Speaker 1: mets on This Opposition territory. Podcast, So, MAGGIE i want
- 15:57Speaker 1: to get into some player focused storylines. Here were looking
- 16:00Speaker 1: towards what This mets season could, be what the personnel
- 16:04Speaker 1: is really going to look like as. Well so let's
- 16:07Speaker 1: start off by talking about Which mets player could completely
- 16:10Speaker 1: change the upcoming season and narrative if things. Click do
- 16:14Speaker 1: you have a player in mind who really fits in
- 16:17Speaker 1: this particular category? Here who would that be and?
- 16:20Speaker 2: Why?
- 16:21Speaker 3: WELL i think about a lot of the changes and
- 16:24Speaker 3: a lot of like the that have happened since last
- 16:26Speaker 3: year and the big issues of last, year AND i
- 16:29Speaker 3: go To Freddy, Peralta, okay BECAUSE i, think, ultimately you,
- 16:32Speaker 3: know the the collapse that we saw from The mets last,
- 16:35Speaker 3: year it WAS i was almost entirely a pitching. Collapse you.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Know it's really easy to point to certain position players
- 16:43Speaker 3: who underperformed here and, There BUT i cannot tell you
- 16:47Speaker 3: how Many august GAMES i sat there and watched The
- 16:49Speaker 3: mets score eight runs AND i still turned that off
- 16:52Speaker 3: before BEFORE i had to watch them lose a game
- 16:56Speaker 3: where they scored eight. Runs it happened so many, times and,
- 16:59Speaker 3: really you know what this team has missed Since jacob
- 17:04Speaker 3: de Grom a is a is an, Ace AND i
- 17:09Speaker 3: Know Freddy peralta is Not jacob Debram AND i don't
- 17:11Speaker 3: mean to imply that like he needs to be that
- 17:14Speaker 3: but consistently needs, him but just someone who who is
- 17:19Speaker 3: used to being at the top of the rotation who
- 17:23Speaker 3: sees that as a role on the team in and of. Itself,
- 17:26Speaker 3: Yeah AND i Think paralta is the kind of guy
- 17:28Speaker 3: who can do, that and he doesn't have to put
- 17:30Speaker 3: up a two and a half ra to be a
- 17:33Speaker 3: leader and to be that lockdown piece of a rotation
- 17:38Speaker 3: that can stop the bleeding right.
- 17:40Speaker 1: RIGHT I WHEN i look at This mets team AND
- 17:44Speaker 1: i see this, roster and we talked before the, break
- 17:46Speaker 1: you know a lot of new. Faces there's gonna be
- 17:49Speaker 1: there's gonna be some excitement For mets fans AND i
- 17:52Speaker 1: think even again fans like myself that look at THE
- 17:55Speaker 1: nl least in terms of the. Competition and we're certainly
- 17:59Speaker 1: going to get into that in a. Bit But i'm
- 18:02Speaker 1: wondering Which mets, player, though do you think is actually
- 18:05Speaker 1: under the most pressure from fans in the front office
- 18:09Speaker 1: to get to that either next echelon or to make
- 18:12Speaker 1: sure that they are consistently doing what they need to
- 18:14Speaker 1: do with regard to their. Role, so which players under
- 18:18Speaker 1: the most pressure from the fan base and the front?
- 18:20Speaker 3: Office, well we Have we've had our kind of two
- 18:23Speaker 3: young infielders for a couple of years, now and That's
- 18:25Speaker 3: biento's and, baby and you, know both of them are
- 18:28Speaker 3: still on the team with all of the upheaval that's,
- 18:31Speaker 3: happened despite neither of them having that perfect match for
- 18:36Speaker 3: a spot on the. Team AND i think both of
- 18:39Speaker 3: them are in a real put up or shut up
- 18:41Speaker 3: kind of. Year AND i like them. BOTH i say
- 18:43Speaker 3: put up or shut up in with, love but you,
- 18:46Speaker 3: know they even they're very different, players but they're also
- 18:49Speaker 3: seen as sort of fitting a lot of the same.
- 18:52Speaker 3: ROLES i, mean mostly like third. Base AND i think
- 18:55Speaker 3: for both of, them like they're not as young as
- 18:57Speaker 3: we feel like they are THERE i want to stay
- 19:00Speaker 3: in their fourth year and so really like now is the,
- 19:04Speaker 3: time and The mets have made it perfectly clear that
- 19:07Speaker 3: they are Not they're not going to keep folks around
- 19:11Speaker 3: who aren't doing the job that The mets want them to.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Do AND i, think, like especially when it comes to
- 19:18Speaker 3: thinking about mid season acquisitions and that kind of, thing
- 19:22Speaker 3: either one of those guys is a potential trade piece
- 19:26Speaker 3: and WOULD i would just be like eating my weedies
- 19:30Speaker 3: IF i were those, guys BECAUSE i, think, like, really
- 19:33Speaker 3: they need to show this year there's not going to
- 19:35Speaker 3: be another opportunity this. Year they have to demonstrate not
- 19:40Speaker 3: just that they are everyday, players but that they're that
- 19:44Speaker 3: they're everyday players in a role in a specific. Role
- 19:47Speaker 3: like we need to See Mark fianto's you, know able
- 19:50Speaker 3: to TO dh on a regular basis and come off
- 19:55Speaker 3: the bench like that and and hit the way he
- 19:58Speaker 3: has shown at times. Before baiti needs to be able
- 20:01Speaker 3: to play a position smoothly every day and keep the
- 20:04Speaker 3: bat above average in order to make himself. Useful both
- 20:07Speaker 3: of these, like both of these guys really need to
- 20:10Speaker 3: be able to do, that because we've also seen both
- 20:12Speaker 3: of them do absolutely.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Nothing, yeah, yeah it's gonna be interesting to watch those
- 20:17Speaker 1: players for, sure and you know just how they can
- 20:21Speaker 1: potentially even develop. More like you, said been on the
- 20:24Speaker 1: team four years at this, point who knows what's going
- 20:26Speaker 1: to really happen with. Them mets fans really going to
- 20:29Speaker 1: be keeping their eye on those two, players for. Sure but,
- 20:31Speaker 1: look we're.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Moving, Along. Maggie you, know all of.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Our teams that we, follow you, know maybe aside from The,
- 20:38Speaker 1: dodgers can't get everything that they want every single year
- 20:41Speaker 1: in the off. Season So i'm also, wondering, too what's
- 20:45Speaker 1: one move you wish The mets would have actually made
- 20:49Speaker 1: this off, season they weren't able to maybe get. Done
- 20:52Speaker 1: what's that one move that you wish that they had
- 20:54Speaker 1: made that didn't, happen didn't come to.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Fruition so my heart wants to say Letting pete, walk
- 21:00Speaker 3: because you, KNOW i think he could be incredible on this.
- 21:04Speaker 3: Team And i'll tell you, WHAT i think he's going
- 21:06Speaker 3: to be perfectly serviceable in the last year of that.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Contract but my answer for this one is actually going
- 21:13Speaker 3: to be Letting diaz. Walk and it's easy to, Like
- 21:17Speaker 3: diaz chose The. Dodgers he did not give The mets
- 21:20Speaker 3: a chance to match their, Offer but The mets have
- 21:25Speaker 3: been spending the last several weeks talking about how they
- 21:28Speaker 3: don't want to spend, money they don't want to give
- 21:30Speaker 3: long term, contracts AND i think that poisoned the. Well
- 21:35Speaker 3: AND i imagine that they were giving that vibe to
- 21:37Speaker 3: him well before the season also of, LIKE i don't,
- 21:40Speaker 3: KNOW i don't, know and like the move that they
- 21:42Speaker 3: should have made was not doing that. Thing the move
- 21:45Speaker 3: that they should have made was being aggressive and you,
- 21:49Speaker 3: know and serious With diaz about being a, contender BECAUSE
- 21:53Speaker 3: i look at this team as constructed AND i think
- 21:57Speaker 3: that seems like a team where having a locked could
- 22:01Speaker 3: be the difference between making the playoffs and. Not, yeah
- 22:06Speaker 3: AND i you, Know, WEAVER I i think it is. Fine, sure,
- 22:12Speaker 3: fine The Devin, Williams, okay, Fine like we'll take The
- 22:15Speaker 3: yankees bullpen and we'll put them in the city field
- 22:17Speaker 3: and hope for the. Best LIKE i, mean they're good.
- 22:20Speaker 3: PICTURES i don't want to like imply that they're. Not
- 22:22Speaker 3: but then you also look at the kind of seasons
- 22:24Speaker 3: That Edwin diaz is capable, of and it's a Different
- 22:28Speaker 3: they're just different. Players like there's the word for What diaz.
- 22:32Speaker 3: Does shouldn't be called a. Closer there needs to be
- 22:34Speaker 3: something else for. It and there's only two or three
- 22:36Speaker 3: of those guys in, baseball and The mets used to
- 22:38Speaker 3: have one and now they. Don't AND i hate.
- 22:40Speaker 1: That, yeah absolutely. Absolutely, Well, LOOK i can't wait for
- 22:44Speaker 1: the season to. Start we all can't wait for the
- 22:46Speaker 1: season to start and for us to actually see what
- 22:50Speaker 1: THIS Nl east is going to look. Like And i'll
- 22:54Speaker 1: tell you right, now while it stresses me, OUT i
- 22:56Speaker 1: always love to see good back and forth between top
- 23:00Speaker 1: teams in THE Nl. East The mets are certainly up.
- 23:03Speaker 1: There phillies are up. There braves may have some, issues
- 23:06Speaker 1: as you, know they're they're certainly the injury bug has
- 23:09Speaker 1: certainly Hit atlanta over these past couple of seasons. Here
- 23:13Speaker 1: but to close this out, here Like i'm, wondering what
- 23:15Speaker 1: does a good, division a good, knockdown drag out division
- 23:19Speaker 1: kind of look like for?
- 23:21Speaker 2: You is it The mets battling with The?
- 23:23Speaker 1: Braves is that The mets going back and forth with
- 23:25Speaker 1: The phillies for that first place spot? Here what are
- 23:29Speaker 1: your thoughts in terms of like what an AWESOME Nl
- 23:32Speaker 1: east is going to look like this year in terms
- 23:34Speaker 1: of the back and.
- 23:34Speaker 3: FORTH i, mean our number one choice for a GOOD
- 23:38Speaker 3: Nl east is Like mets by like twenty to.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Thirty, okay, yeah, sure absolutely, yes and.
- 23:44Speaker 3: We're talking second. BEST i, mean WHAT i feel like
- 23:48Speaker 3: we haven't had for a while is a nice three way,
- 23:50Speaker 3: race you, KNOW i feel like it's always one team
- 23:53Speaker 3: falling out of it early. Yep and like you, KNOW
- 23:56Speaker 3: I i don't think The braves look very very intimidating right,
- 24:01Speaker 3: now BUT i also think that they can always get
- 24:04Speaker 3: in there and surprise. You AND i think like if
- 24:09Speaker 3: if The braves can can kind of pick up their
- 24:12Speaker 3: end of the. Bargain THEN i think we could have
- 24:14Speaker 3: that because you, know The Phillies sorry About Boba. Schett
- 24:19Speaker 3: sorry not, sorry but like you, know like The phillies
- 24:23Speaker 3: have certainly like not gotten, worse and they handily beat
- 24:28Speaker 3: The mets last, year so clearly like. That that MATCHUP
- 24:33Speaker 3: i think is going to be a really good. One
- 24:34Speaker 3: AND i do sort of hope The braves show up
- 24:37Speaker 3: just enough to like keep it. Interesting.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Yeah, Absolutely AND i at the end of the, DAY
- 24:41Speaker 1: i really think it is going to Be Mets phillies
- 24:44Speaker 1: going back and.
- 24:44Speaker 2: FORTH i think it's going to be real.
- 24:46Speaker 3: Interesting, also, SAY i Thought miami, might like at the
- 24:49Speaker 3: end of last, Year he's gonna, play and they're, Like,
- 24:52Speaker 3: nah we don't want. To we don't want to do.
- 24:54Speaker 3: That we don't want a ballery.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Floor we're a small market. Team why do we want.
