- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to episode twenty four of Revellio for
- 0:13Speaker 1: July twenty fourth, twenty twenty five.
- 0:31Speaker 2: I'm Amy, I'm Nicole, and I'm Tom.
- 0:36Speaker 3: How's everybody doing?
- 0:38Speaker 1: Doing great? Battling the heat, battling technical difficulties.
- 0:45Speaker 3: We always.
- 0:48Speaker 1: One big episode of Revellio without.
- 0:50Speaker 2: It, no, but it's usually me, So here we go.
- 0:56Speaker 3: We've all had our fair share, so it'll be too
- 0:59Speaker 3: hard on yourself.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Well, right, if you're listening to this episode right now,
- 1:03Speaker 2: we figured out the technical difficulties.
- 1:10Speaker 3: Okay, So in this episode we are going to be
- 1:13Speaker 3: doing a deep dive into the character of Ruby's Hagrid.
- 1:16Speaker 3: But first.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Listening to w WN the Wizarding Wireless Network. Now for
- 1:28Speaker 2: the latest headlines.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Okay, so disclaimer before we start our news today, I'm
- 1:36Speaker 3: gonna crash out a little bit, but just briefly. I'm
- 1:38Speaker 3: going to try to be brief. But anyway, I'm going
- 1:42Speaker 3: to start with the news today. So it seems like
- 1:46Speaker 3: we've finally gotten our first look at what will become
- 1:50Speaker 3: the Great Hall and the HBO Harry Potter TV series.
- 1:53Speaker 3: So longtime collector and Instagram user Victoria MacLean filmed the
- 1:58Speaker 3: video just outside of Harry Potter Studio tour in front
- 2:02Speaker 3: in front of a sound stage where you can clearly
- 2:04Speaker 3: see the recognizable window arches from this iconic set piece.
- 2:09Speaker 3: She confirmed that thanks to her quote Secret Minion, this
- 2:13Speaker 3: is indeed the set of the Great Hall, and from
- 2:16Speaker 3: the looks of it, it seems they're building a one
- 2:19Speaker 3: on one replica of the original set scene in the
- 2:22Speaker 3: Harry Potter films. So that's that.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Tell us how you feel, Tom.
- 2:28Speaker 3: I mean, obviously, obviously I have thoughts like already, okay,
- 2:33Speaker 3: like we've discussed this like many times already, But who
- 2:36Speaker 3: else am I going to talk with if it's not
- 2:38Speaker 3: with my friends on our podcast and just you know,
- 2:42Speaker 3: and our listeners of course. So of course I think
- 2:47Speaker 3: everybody knows how where I stand on the TV show
- 2:50Speaker 3: and where Nicole stands and where Amy stands. I think
- 2:52Speaker 3: we have slightly different I'm probably the most apprehensive one,
- 2:56Speaker 3: for sure ever since that announcement, because of how I've
- 2:59Speaker 3: had like this sense of loss of identity and like
- 3:02Speaker 3: something that's been kind of like taken away. But but regardless,
- 3:08Speaker 3: I have been trying to give this this show, you know,
- 3:14Speaker 3: the benefit of doubt, really because I want to want
- 3:17Speaker 3: to want it. I do want to be looking forward
- 3:21Speaker 3: to it, but these sort of like latest development just
- 3:25Speaker 3: really makes me feel like they're somehow shaping it's shaping
- 3:30Speaker 3: up to be a project driven more by greed rather
- 3:34Speaker 3: than passion, Like it sounds more like an easy cash
- 3:37Speaker 3: grap in some in some ways, and just another excuse
- 3:40Speaker 3: to keep profiting off the Harry Potter franchise for many
- 3:44Speaker 3: more years to come. And of course, like maybe you
- 3:46Speaker 3: would be thinking, yes, I'm being a little nippicky because
- 3:48Speaker 3: I'm just basing it off these arches and these little
- 3:51Speaker 3: like window frames. But if they went, you know, as
- 3:56Speaker 3: far as replicating something as specific as that, it really
- 4:00Speaker 3: makes me feel like they were too afraid to take creative,
- 4:03Speaker 3: creative risks. And I think one of the things that
- 4:05Speaker 3: people were and are still looking forward to is seeing
- 4:08Speaker 3: this new reinterpretation and this like very faithful straight from
- 4:13Speaker 3: the novel to the small screen adaptation. And you know,
- 4:18Speaker 3: I actually did have my hopes up when Private Drive,
- 4:20Speaker 3: when we got those irl shots of Private Drive, because
- 4:24Speaker 3: it does look distinct, it does look like it was
- 4:26Speaker 3: doing its own thing, like it was really they were
- 4:29Speaker 3: veering towards a slightly different direction. But yeah, like it
- 4:33Speaker 3: just seems a little like, you know, this kind of
- 4:36Speaker 3: like confirms a little bit of my suspicions of how
- 4:38Speaker 3: this project is entirely made out of love, but you know,
- 4:41Speaker 3: it's this opportunity to keep profiting it off. And I
- 4:45Speaker 3: don't know, I feel like a little like very like
- 4:47Speaker 3: upset up when I see these kind of things, because
- 4:49Speaker 3: at the same time, I feel like the films are
- 4:51Speaker 3: doing so well on their own and they're carrying the
- 4:53Speaker 3: legacy just more than fine. They're you know, giving one
- 4:56Speaker 3: of brothers one hundreds and millions of dollars on profit
- 4:59Speaker 3: on revenue you every single year. So I don't know,
- 5:02Speaker 3: these physicians, these creative slash non creative decisions don't feel
- 5:07Speaker 3: like they make much sense. And I know, again it's
- 5:10Speaker 3: a very small detail, but sometimes the details helped kind
- 5:13Speaker 3: of like to paint this like larger picture. But I mean,
- 5:16Speaker 3: of course, this is just my opinion, Like I want
- 5:18Speaker 3: to know what you guys think of this as well.
- 5:22Speaker 1: I mean, it's such a small portion of the Yes,
- 5:30Speaker 1: I kind of feel like I can't even like tell
- 5:33Speaker 1: at this point because they could be trying to like
- 5:37Speaker 1: walk that fine line of oh, we want to honor
- 5:41Speaker 1: the original and have these like architectural details, but then
- 5:46Speaker 1: the rest of the Gray Hall is get to look
- 5:48Speaker 1: totally different. I don't know, like it's just so hard
- 5:52Speaker 1: to tell from such a narrow view photo.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I did my research and I actually
- 6:00Speaker 3: compare it. Like I started seeing like, Okay, I see this.
- 6:02Speaker 3: They're saying, it's a great haul. Let's see because maybe
- 6:04Speaker 3: this is going to give us hands of how it's
- 6:06Speaker 3: going to look. So I compare it and it's literally
- 6:10Speaker 3: like a one to one copy. So of course, like
- 6:12Speaker 3: we don't know what they're going to do with the
- 6:14Speaker 3: interior of it. Like of course we are just getting
- 6:16Speaker 3: this little tiny glimpse and I still hope it proves
- 6:19Speaker 3: me wrong, but I'm scared, like this is actually the
- 6:23Speaker 3: direction they're going with. But yeah, like I don't know
- 6:27Speaker 3: what's your technical.
- 6:30Speaker 2: I think I think my thoughts are maybe somewhere in
- 6:34Speaker 2: the middle of like what you both just said, because
- 6:39Speaker 2: I think that something that you said Tom, that I
- 6:42Speaker 2: like immediately popped in my head, like at the end
- 6:44Speaker 2: of the day. And I think sometimes as fans, like
- 6:46Speaker 2: we don't want to like always realize this and recognize
- 6:49Speaker 2: this and say it out loud. But at the end
- 6:51Speaker 2: of the day, like it's a business, right, so like
- 6:53Speaker 2: oh it's money, you know, right, we want fans, right,
- 6:57Speaker 2: we want to say this is this is a passion
- 6:59Speaker 2: this is a indie film, This is a passion.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Show.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not. No, like we're it's a huge franchise.
- 7:08Speaker 2: And I think, like, you know, at this point, you know,
- 7:12Speaker 2: kind of doing more Harry Potter stuff is a you
- 7:16Speaker 2: know it is you know that you're going to get
- 7:18Speaker 2: business out of it. You know that it's going to
- 7:21Speaker 2: be like you know, possibly like if you want to
- 7:24Speaker 2: say a cash grab or like you know, it's just
- 7:25Speaker 2: it's going to be a business. I mean, well, I
- 7:28Speaker 2: mean maybe it's kind of questionable, like how good of
- 7:30Speaker 2: a business decision it would be right now, but like,
- 7:32Speaker 2: you know, it's ultimately like it is stone. So I
- 7:36Speaker 2: do agree with that part of like, you know, are
- 7:40Speaker 2: we just doing this like you we market it as
- 7:44Speaker 2: we want to do this faithful adaptation for the fans
- 7:47Speaker 2: and we're going to have all of this time to
- 7:49Speaker 2: explore and I know we've talked before. I think if
- 7:51Speaker 2: we could go back in time, Harry Potter would have
- 7:54Speaker 2: always made a better TV show than a film series,
- 7:57Speaker 2: but at the time that it came out, adaptation were filmed,
- 8:01Speaker 2: not TV, And so like it's like it is it
- 8:06Speaker 2: so much this passion project that they kind of sold
- 8:09Speaker 2: that it was going to be Like, I don't know,
- 8:11Speaker 2: I think it can be a little bit of both.
- 8:12Speaker 2: I think that there might be this drive to still
- 8:16Speaker 2: give this true adaptation to the fans with us having
- 8:20Speaker 2: all this extra time, but at the same time, like, right,
- 8:24Speaker 2: it's a business. This is one of the most profitable
- 8:27Speaker 2: for profitable franchises out there, Like they would be remiss
- 8:33Speaker 2: to like try to hide that some of it is
- 8:35Speaker 2: just a cash grab. Yeah, but so I think so
- 8:38Speaker 2: that part I completely agree that. I think that it's like,
- 8:41Speaker 2: you know, what are the motives here with making the show?
- 8:44Speaker 2: Is it really just to give the fans this faithful
- 8:46Speaker 2: adaptation or is it money? I mean, it's clearly maybe
- 8:50Speaker 2: a bit of both, but it's clearly driven my money,
- 8:52Speaker 2: like HBO. You know. So I think that we might
- 8:56Speaker 2: see these types of things. But I think on the
- 8:58Speaker 2: other side kind of a little bit more to like
- 9:01Speaker 2: what Amy was talking about. I think some of these
- 9:04Speaker 2: sets are so iconic. How do you completely do something new,
- 9:12Speaker 2: especially like if it's a place that we've gotten a
- 9:15Speaker 2: bit of, like a description of how it looks, Like
- 9:18Speaker 2: how different can you really make it? Like I think
- 9:22Speaker 2: some of these iconic sets, like we're going to see
- 9:25Speaker 2: like it's gonna seem similar. I think it should.
- 9:29Speaker 3: I do.
- 9:29Speaker 2: I think it should be a one to one replica. No,
- 9:31Speaker 2: I agree with you, Tom with that, because it's like
- 9:35Speaker 2: it because to me, I'm like, okay, if we're just
- 9:37Speaker 2: going to do one to one replicas of all these things,
- 9:39Speaker 2: like why are we remaking this? Like clearly the original
- 9:44Speaker 2: is so iconic, and so dare I say just perfect that,
- 9:48Speaker 2: like you're just copying it? Like why are we redoing this?
- 9:51Speaker 2: But I think that we should expect to see some
- 9:55Speaker 2: of the same elements in certain things. So I'm kind
- 10:00Speaker 2: of with Amy and that, Like I think my whole
- 10:03Speaker 2: thing with this show, like my whole emma with this
- 10:05Speaker 2: show is like I just want to wait and see
- 10:08Speaker 2: what happens before I like get too riled up or
- 10:11Speaker 2: I get too angry, or I get too excited. Like
- 10:14Speaker 2: I'm kind of just like I'm along for the ride
- 10:16Speaker 2: and we'll see what happens. Because at the end of
- 10:18Speaker 2: the day, Like you know, this isn't replacing our films, right,
- 10:22Speaker 2: Like our films are still going to be there. I
- 10:25Speaker 2: don't think that we're going to see and I don't know,
- 10:27Speaker 2: I hope that we don't see as much of a
- 10:29Speaker 2: replacement when it comes to like marketing, Like we don't
- 10:32Speaker 2: start to see these new actors replacing like Dan Rupert
- 10:35Speaker 2: and Emma Like I think of like just being at
- 10:38Speaker 2: Universal right, like their faces are so they're in the rides,
- 10:41Speaker 2: like they can't. I don't think they're just going to
- 10:43Speaker 2: refilm all this stuff, right, So I don't think that
- 10:46Speaker 2: we should think of this as being a replacement of
- 10:48Speaker 2: those films. I don't think anything can replace those films.
- 10:51Speaker 2: And I think at HBO they probably know that. But
- 10:57Speaker 2: at the same time, like right, I agree, I want
- 10:59Speaker 2: to see them of do something new, like if you're
- 11:02Speaker 2: redoing this, do something new. But but yeah, but at
- 11:07Speaker 2: long story short, at the same time, I think that
- 11:10Speaker 2: we will still see replicas of certain things. Yeah, I was.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Just thank you.
- 11:19Speaker 1: I was just thinking too, like the Great Hall is
- 11:25Speaker 1: one of those sets that is so iconic that like
- 11:30Speaker 1: think about even like the video games, right, like across
- 11:34Speaker 1: all of the different video games we've got, We've gotten
- 11:37Speaker 1: like the ones that are kind of ripped from the movies.
- 11:40Speaker 1: We've got the the lego Harry Potter stuff, we've got
- 11:44Speaker 1: Highwar's Legacy. In all of those, the Great Hall looks
- 11:50Speaker 1: very similar to how it does in the films. There's
- 11:54Speaker 1: small changes of small differences, but you can walk into
- 11:58Speaker 1: the space and be like, yes, this is a Great Hall,
- 12:00Speaker 1: whereas different parts of the castle that aren't quite as
- 12:04Speaker 1: iconic as the Great Hall have been changed dramatically for
- 12:08Speaker 1: those different mediums. So I kind of wonder if that's
- 12:12Speaker 1: the thought process of we have to keep at least
- 12:14Speaker 1: this space somewhat close so it's recognizable, but then everywhere
- 12:18Speaker 1: else we can be.
- 12:20Speaker 3: They did say that, the showrunner actually said that they
- 12:23Speaker 3: wouldn't mess with the likeness of the Great Hall, but
- 12:25Speaker 3: I just thought, like, because Hogwart's legacy went an extra mile,
- 12:29Speaker 3: I think with expanding the Great Hall and making it
- 12:31Speaker 3: more majestic and more grand, that I thought, Okay, maybe
- 12:34Speaker 3: they're going for that approach, but it, you know, it
- 12:37Speaker 3: doesn't seem like it, because again, it's a different type
- 12:40Speaker 3: of architecture already from what I'm seeing from these set pieces.
- 12:43Speaker 3: But again, like yes, I also expect that we will
- 12:46Speaker 3: see familiar sets and the Great Hall, Like you guys said,
- 12:49Speaker 3: it's so iconic and they spent so much time, not
- 12:52Speaker 3: just in the films, but in the books. We have
- 12:54Speaker 3: so many scenes that happen there. And I still think
- 12:59Speaker 3: there's a lot of you know, areas where they can
- 13:01Speaker 3: expand they can change. I mean, I hope the entrance
- 13:04Speaker 3: hall is different. It's closer to what we got in
- 13:06Speaker 3: the first couple of video games. Like things that are different,
- 13:10Speaker 3: things that make me want to you know, hey, staircases, Yeah,
- 13:15Speaker 3: do something different. Yeah, And even if there was a
- 13:18Speaker 3: studio tour, you know in twenty years from now, like
- 13:21Speaker 3: we would want to visit the sets, but something different,
- 13:24Speaker 3: Like why would we go and see the Great Hall
- 13:26Speaker 3: two point zero which is exactly the same. That's the
- 13:28Speaker 3: part where I'm like, it doesn't make much sense and
- 13:32Speaker 3: it's yeah, like it's a little rickety, but I don't know. Yeah,
- 13:36Speaker 3: Like again, I think it's all about just waiting and
- 13:39Speaker 3: seeing what happens. I think there's also like a lot
- 13:42Speaker 3: of contractual obligations and lots of legal behind the thing,
- 13:46Speaker 3: behind the scenes, things that we don't know of like
- 13:49Speaker 3: licensing and merchandise and things that might be left like
- 13:52Speaker 3: like like ten or fifteen years from now that it's irreplaceable.
- 13:56Speaker 3: So maybe we are just like I'm also worrying too
- 13:59Speaker 3: much about it. Maybe there's you know, there's nothing to
- 14:01Speaker 3: be worried about at the end of the day, because
- 14:04Speaker 3: if the show works as a companion to the films,
- 14:06Speaker 3: then it's going to be great. It's going to be
- 14:08Speaker 3: you know, ideal for all of us to live in
- 14:10Speaker 3: this world what they both coexist. So I mean, yeah,
- 14:14Speaker 3: we always say the same thing, we have to wait
- 14:16Speaker 3: and see. But yeah, that's uh yeah, just.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Yep, yeah, I think we did. I think, and it's
- 14:26Speaker 2: I think sometimes it's easier said than done to just
- 14:28Speaker 2: kind of wait and see, especially because obviously, like I mean,
- 14:32Speaker 2: we're obviously huge fans of the story and the series, right,
- 14:35Speaker 2: Like there's a reason why we talk about it every
- 14:37Speaker 2: other week.
- 14:37Speaker 1: But yeah, I don't like it that much.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Yeah, like you spent all that money.
- 14:42Speaker 3: At university, you know, hundreds.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Of dollars in loans that are sitting right here on
- 14:48Speaker 2: the table next to me. I don't really like it,
- 14:50Speaker 2: but I think so, I think it's it's good to
- 14:53Speaker 2: be critical of it, you know. I think that, you know,
- 14:56Speaker 2: I'm so I'm really curious to see, like when it
- 14:59Speaker 2: finally comes out and we obviously start reviewing it like
- 15:01Speaker 2: what our thoughts and stuff are. But I think, to it,
- 15:05Speaker 2: it's hard because it's like it is so early now,
- 15:07Speaker 2: and I think even these pictures, and even if there
- 15:10Speaker 2: are really good pictures of sets, I still feel like
- 15:13Speaker 2: there's a lot of room for things to change. Like
- 15:16Speaker 2: there's a lot of things like in posts that can change.
- 15:20Speaker 2: You know. This is obviously the physical set we're seeing.
- 15:23Speaker 2: We don't know what kind of special effects and stuff
- 15:25Speaker 2: might be added, and just the overall like tone of
- 15:30Speaker 2: it too might feel different. I think of like like okay,
- 15:33Speaker 2: like and here I am, because you know me, I
- 15:35Speaker 2: like to always compare it to like other pop culture things.
- 15:37Speaker 2: I feel like that's also.
- 15:38Speaker 3: Just my embo.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Like I think of like Twilight, right, think of the
- 15:44Speaker 2: first Twilight film and the blue undertone of that film,
- 15:49Speaker 2: and it's become very iconic for that film, right, But
- 15:52Speaker 2: then we got different directors for the next two films
- 15:55Speaker 2: and it lost that blue kind of you know tone
- 16:00Speaker 2: into it. And so I think that while the set
- 16:03Speaker 2: might look very the same, things might be done like
- 16:07Speaker 2: I said in post, and just the vibes of it
- 16:10Speaker 2: all might feel different once you would get the students
- 16:13Speaker 2: in there and like their robes are different and like yeah,
- 16:17Speaker 2: and so it might look like the bones of it
- 16:19Speaker 2: is very similar, but in the end it probably will
- 16:22Speaker 2: have a very different feel. I might be wrong, it
- 16:25Speaker 2: could end up being just like a carbon copy, but
- 16:27Speaker 2: I think when it's in the actual show, I really
- 16:30Speaker 2: feel like it will feel different because of all of
- 16:32Speaker 2: those other those other factors that play into it in
- 16:38Speaker 2: the atmosphere of it.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Totally. Yeah, I agree.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I also see why you're upset, Tom, because I
- 16:49Speaker 2: think that it is. It's kind of like this whole idea.
- 16:52Speaker 2: It's like you just want to say, like, Okay, well,
- 16:54Speaker 2: if you felt like we needed to redo this instead
- 16:56Speaker 2: of making a new story, then why aren't you just
- 16:58Speaker 2: redoing it? Why are we just rehashing this thing? Like,
- 17:00Speaker 2: I like totally understand that perspective.
- 17:04Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, when something is so iconic and it's
- 17:07Speaker 3: shaped up millions of people, and also it's a little
- 17:10Speaker 3: risky for them to like to be like on this,
- 17:12Speaker 3: let's replace let's replace everything, you know, standpoint, because it's
- 17:18Speaker 3: like they might do it, but there's obviously going to
- 17:21Speaker 3: be a lot of external things like there could be
- 17:23Speaker 3: you know, there's already backlash when with one of the characters,
- 17:27Speaker 3: which I think i've you know, I'm completely against it.
- 17:30Speaker 3: I'm actually excited that it's something that is so different
- 17:34Speaker 3: and I'm happy with a casting choice. And there's also
- 17:38Speaker 3: obviously the likeness of the author and a lot of
- 17:40Speaker 3: things that you know might play up, might be like
- 17:42Speaker 3: factors that contribute this to not be the huge success
- 17:46Speaker 3: that they want it to be on the long run,
- 17:48Speaker 3: at least maybe because it's granted, like it's going to
- 17:50Speaker 3: be really big when it comes out, but is it
- 17:53Speaker 3: really possible to keep it up after a few years.
- 17:56Speaker 3: And also like yeah, it's just like it would them
- 18:00Speaker 3: you know, shooting themselves in the foot, just risking too
- 18:04Speaker 3: much in that regard. So I don't know, like I'm
- 18:07Speaker 3: just really curious to see how they're going to play it.
- 18:09Speaker 3: They're probably going to want to play it safe, but
- 18:12Speaker 3: you know, we get these things, like these little contradictions,
- 18:14Speaker 3: and it was like, oh, what do you really want?
- 18:16Speaker 3: What is the plan behind this whole?
- 18:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's kind of almost like this damned
- 18:22Speaker 2: if you do, damned if you don't situation, because I
- 18:24Speaker 2: think if they like massively read like say, let's just
- 18:28Speaker 2: say they decided to kind of massively redo the Great
- 18:30Speaker 2: Hall and like also like we're getting on such a
- 18:33Speaker 2: soapbox about this, but you know, right, well.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Yeah, we need to do a deep dive on this, by.
- 18:43Speaker 2: The way, right, I think, yeah, that would be a
- 18:46Speaker 2: totally cool episode idea once we start getting pieces and
- 18:49Speaker 2: stuff like that. But I think that if they decided
- 18:52Speaker 2: to say, we're going to completely gut that Great Haul
- 18:55Speaker 2: and we're going to come up with something completely new,
- 18:58Speaker 2: people would be upset with that too, because it's such
- 19:00Speaker 2: an iconic set and we have like a literal descriptions
- 19:05Speaker 2: of what the place looks like. Yeah, and so how
- 19:08Speaker 2: you know, it's like what do you do in that scenario?
- 19:11Speaker 2: It's just like you said, I think some for some
- 19:13Speaker 2: of it, they might have to play a little safe
- 19:15Speaker 2: because you are touching such an iconic thing. Yeah, I
- 19:21Speaker 2: don't know. I think maybe once we start to get
- 19:23Speaker 2: some more glimpses into other sets, we might have a
- 19:27Speaker 2: better idea at like, are they just replicating things or
- 19:31Speaker 2: are they doing something different, because I think, yeah, it's
- 19:34Speaker 2: hard with the Great Hall just being I think like
- 19:36Speaker 2: the Great Hall, Hogwarts Exterior, and like Diagonale are like
- 19:43Speaker 2: those three that I think are really hard to like
- 19:45Speaker 2: dbate too much from.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Or like Hagrid's Hot, that's another one.
- 19:50Speaker 2: I think that true.
- 19:51Speaker 3: Yeah, but in Potter More it was pretty different. Hagard's
- 19:54Speaker 3: Hot it had like more I think it would have
- 19:55Speaker 3: more like a boxed form, like it wasn't a it
- 20:00Speaker 3: wasn't rounded. I think Potter Moore did really deviate from that,
- 20:05Speaker 3: you know perception from that like iteration we had from
- 20:08Speaker 3: the film. So Potter Moore really like was this like
- 20:11Speaker 3: ultimate description, ultimate illustration of these book descriptions. Even when
- 20:18Speaker 3: you see the entrance hall, it's exactly the same entrance
- 20:20Speaker 3: hall you saw the early video games. That is the
- 20:23Speaker 3: one that we you know, the one that they pictured
- 20:25Speaker 3: imagine from the start. So I'm also very curious to
- 20:28Speaker 3: see if they're going to pick up on any of
- 20:30Speaker 3: those designs because it has such a beautiful like Poter
- 20:33Speaker 3: Moore has such beautiful illustrations, and I feel they're probably
- 20:37Speaker 3: the most accurate ones to what is being written.
- 20:41Speaker 2: So yeah, well with the entrance hall to like I
- 20:46Speaker 2: think that with that, they filmed it at like a location,
- 20:50Speaker 2: so they're kind of like limited into like what that
- 20:54Speaker 2: like Abbey like already kind of looked like. Versus if
- 20:56Speaker 2: they decide for the show that the entrance hall is
- 21:00Speaker 2: worth putting the money in to build a set versus
- 21:04Speaker 2: filming it on an already established location. That could also
- 21:07Speaker 2: play into a role too, because like I mean, I
- 21:09Speaker 2: think they have probably a bigger budget. Well, they obviously
- 21:12Speaker 2: have a much bigger budget going into this show than
- 21:14Speaker 2: they had going into that first film, you know, decades ago,
- 21:18Speaker 2: so they could decide like, hey, this is something where
- 21:20Speaker 2: we actually want to build a set, and then they
- 21:23Speaker 2: can replicate more like you know, what you saw on
- 21:26Speaker 2: pot or more what's described in the book because they're
- 21:29Speaker 2: able to just build it from scratch versus filming it
- 21:32Speaker 2: on a location. So yeah, yeah, I guess we'll we'll see.
- 21:37Speaker 2: But I feel like we're going to start, like I
- 21:39Speaker 2: guess to like wrap up this piece of news, Like
- 21:41Speaker 2: I feel like we're going to start to see more
- 21:43Speaker 2: of these things as we're getting which actually this is
- 21:45Speaker 2: probably a really good segue into our next bit of
- 21:48Speaker 2: news that you're going to talk about, Tom, I plan that, yeah,
- 21:50Speaker 2: but yeah, I think that it's going to We're going
- 21:56Speaker 2: to start seeing more of this now as we get
- 21:58Speaker 2: closer and closer to film.
- 22:00Speaker 3: So yeah, as you said, Nicole, as we're getting very
- 22:04Speaker 3: close to filming. It seems like, according to multiple sources,
- 22:08Speaker 3: the Harry Potter TV show is lated to begin filming
- 22:11Speaker 3: this coming Monday, July fourteenth. While this hasn't been officially
- 22:15Speaker 3: confirmed by HBO, we do know that John Lithgo, who
- 22:18Speaker 3: is going to be portraying Albus Dumbledore, has stated that
- 22:22Speaker 3: he begins filming in August. So you know, we think
- 22:25Speaker 3: this timeline would line up perfectly with these reports. If
- 22:29Speaker 3: the sources are accurate, filming will already be underway by
- 22:32Speaker 3: the time this episode is released, so we should really
- 22:37Speaker 3: start seeing stuff coming out.
- 22:39Speaker 4: Yeah, well, because I think too.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Now it's again here I go again, comparing it to
- 22:47Speaker 2: another franchise. That's just what I do. I think of,
- 22:52Speaker 2: Like I mean, we will because if you think of
- 22:55Speaker 2: them filming this now compared to when they filmed like
- 22:58Speaker 2: that first film, things have changed so much. And the
- 23:01Speaker 2: thing I immediately thought about with this is I another
- 23:05Speaker 2: show that I love is Interview with the Vampire that's
- 23:08Speaker 2: based off of Anne Rice's book. And this is a
- 23:10Speaker 2: very niche show. Like when the first two seasons came out,
- 23:15Speaker 2: it was very it's not like this mainstream show, right,
- 23:20Speaker 2: it was like this kind of yeah, like can't be
- 23:24Speaker 2: crowd that was watching it. And I just saw I
- 23:28Speaker 2: was scrolling tech talk the other day and they just
- 23:30Speaker 2: started filming season three and they air was some leaks
- 23:33Speaker 2: of them filming it, and in the comments, so many
- 23:36Speaker 2: people were like, man, gone are the days where we
- 23:40Speaker 2: never got anything when they were shooting because it wasn't
- 23:43Speaker 2: big enough that people out in public were like, oh,
- 23:46Speaker 2: this is what they're filming. And I think that we'll
- 23:49Speaker 2: see that with this as well. I think we started to,
- 23:53Speaker 2: like maybe with the later films, but I think it's
- 23:55Speaker 2: even more now in the culture that we're in and
- 23:57Speaker 2: just people capturing things for social media, and I think
- 24:01Speaker 2: for these companies they have to really do a lot
- 24:04Speaker 2: more to try to keep filming and stuff secretive, especially
- 24:07Speaker 2: when they're on a location. So I hope this means
- 24:12Speaker 2: that we'll like see I mean, I'm a sucker for
- 24:16Speaker 2: spoilers like I were given and I don't. I have
- 24:20Speaker 2: a really hard time, like not looking at spoilers, but
- 24:24Speaker 2: I think it'll just depend, I guess, how much they
- 24:28Speaker 2: shoot on locations versus in closed sets, because obviously we'll
- 24:32Speaker 2: only really get the potential leaks of when they're shooting
- 24:36Speaker 2: on a location, which maybe with this it wouldn't be
- 24:39Speaker 2: as much as other shows.
- 24:41Speaker 3: But I think I think they are, you know, they're
- 24:45Speaker 3: going to keep themselves a little secluded in that regard.
- 24:48Speaker 3: I think they want to protect these kids the most
- 24:52Speaker 3: the most that they can. So it would make sense
- 24:55Speaker 3: too that they're doing everything in the studio and not
- 24:59Speaker 3: as much on thee Like I don't. I don't think
- 25:01Speaker 3: I've read anything like any reports of on location shooting,
- 25:05Speaker 3: and it would make sense that most of this is
- 25:08Speaker 3: done like in the studio and that they just have
- 25:11Speaker 3: this because they already know they're going to be filming
- 25:14Speaker 3: you know, potentially like the seventh seasons, so they're you know,
- 25:17Speaker 3: gonna be because the first movie when it came out,
- 25:20Speaker 3: they had no guarantee how it was going to do,
- 25:21Speaker 3: so there was no like need or budget to build
- 25:26Speaker 3: too many sets, so they had to shoot a lot
- 25:27Speaker 3: of these on location. But once they got really on that,
- 25:31Speaker 3: you know, on the Spinning Wheel, and they started getting like,
- 25:33Speaker 3: you know, the film's got incredibly popular, just started it
- 25:35Speaker 3: kind of like building more and more sets to the
- 25:37Speaker 3: end that they were basically not filming on location by
- 25:40Speaker 3: movie six. They only went back to I think Glocester
- 25:44Speaker 3: Cathedral by the sixth film, but the rest was all
- 25:46Speaker 3: done on location. They had hundreds of sets, So this
- 25:50Speaker 3: is I'm guessing this is going to be from the
- 25:52Speaker 3: get go. This is going to be their plan, just
- 25:54Speaker 3: to have as many sets built as possible. And yeah,
- 25:58Speaker 3: I'm not even sure there's gonna be much because they
- 26:00Speaker 3: want to keep it secretive, so I don't think there's
- 26:03Speaker 3: going to be much on location, to be honest.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Even if there is, it would probably be more secluded locations,
- 26:12Speaker 1: so not like dropping the cast in the middle of
- 26:14Speaker 1: an actual city, which is where you usually get those leaks,
- 26:18Speaker 1: like thinking about like fantastic beasts and stuff. Like when
- 26:22Speaker 1: they did film on location, it was in more populated
- 26:25Speaker 1: areas and that's when we started getting leaks as opposed
- 26:29Speaker 1: to stuff they were doing in studio.
- 26:31Speaker 3: So yeah, well, okay, so on that note, speaking of
- 26:39Speaker 3: studios and behind the scenes, Lord, there is some confirmed
- 26:43Speaker 3: news Knox is returning this year at Warner Brother's studio
- 26:47Speaker 3: tour the Making of Harry Potter. This feature will be
- 26:50Speaker 3: available from October twenty ninth to October thirty first. So
- 26:54Speaker 3: you're going to be able to experience Halloween at Hogwarts
- 26:56Speaker 3: during spine Chilling after hours event at the Harry Potter
- 27:00Speaker 3: Studio Tour, and it will be cloaked in darkness, beginning
- 27:03Speaker 3: with themed cocktails and mocktails in the Great Hall beneath
- 27:06Speaker 3: floating jack o lanterns. Guests can't expect surprise encounters with
- 27:10Speaker 3: death theaters. Shout out, Nicole.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Can I just say, like a little anecdote. I actually
- 27:17Speaker 2: saw a tech talk the other day where somebody like
- 27:21Speaker 2: posted the death theater thirst Trap and they're like, this
- 27:24Speaker 2: is coming back in a couple months.
- 27:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought so, Yeah, I saw I saw an
- 27:30Speaker 3: Instagram posting I wonder if death theaters miss.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Us like we miss them.
- 27:35Speaker 3: Yeah. So yeah, aside for encounters, you're gonna get a
- 27:41Speaker 3: digital souvenir photo. So yeah, you're gonna follow also darkened
- 27:46Speaker 3: trail through the studio tour, collecting magical sweet treats at
- 27:49Speaker 3: a trigg or Treat stations, navigating the forbidding forest with lanterns,
- 27:54Speaker 3: and the black lot will feature intense interactions with roaming
- 27:57Speaker 3: death theaters leading.
- 27:58Speaker 2: To merchant interaction.
- 28:00Speaker 3: Sorry, that's just like there you have Nicole hopping on
- 28:08Speaker 3: a plane to the studio war.
- 28:11Speaker 1: That's what we were going to summon you earlier. Tom
- 28:14Speaker 1: was like telling the death theaters are coming.
- 28:16Speaker 3: There's tons of death theater content.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Yeah, you know why, I think you know, whoever is
- 28:22Speaker 2: planning this event, they must be on death theater TikTok
- 28:25Speaker 2: as well. And see how excited everybody gets by and
- 28:28Speaker 2: they're like, you know what, we're bringing that to London. Okay,
- 28:32Speaker 2: I'm sorry, carry on. That's just like inactions.
- 28:37Speaker 3: I knew. I knew that this was going to cause
- 28:38Speaker 3: this type of reaction, so I was prepared. So as
- 28:45Speaker 3: I said, okay, so you're going to follow a darkened
- 28:46Speaker 3: trail through the studio tour, collecting magical sweet treats at
- 28:49Speaker 3: a triggered treat station, and navigating the forbidding force with lanterns.
- 28:54Speaker 3: The backlot will feature intentse like we said, interactions with
- 28:58Speaker 3: death theaters. This is going to lead to an immersive
- 29:01Speaker 3: battle experience and yeah, interesting and Guests can gather chocolate
- 29:08Speaker 3: coins at Gringotts before heading into diagon Alley, which will
- 29:12Speaker 3: be watched over by again the Death Theaters. Tickets are
- 29:17Speaker 3: available now.
- 29:18Speaker 2: I want to go to this so bad. Why couldn't
- 29:21Speaker 2: they have this one I loved?
- 29:24Speaker 3: I feel like it's blown up in the recent years,
- 29:27Speaker 3: I think, right, like, h.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean they never did anything like this when
- 29:32Speaker 2: I used to go, But I again, I went before
- 29:34Speaker 2: they had like the Forbidden Forest expansion and all of that. Man,
- 29:38Speaker 2: I might have to like plan a future trip like
- 29:40Speaker 2: over back, you know, over to my old stomping grounds
- 29:43Speaker 2: in Halloween season because this sounds so cool. Yeah, the
- 29:53Speaker 2: Residence Leatherin is really excited about this news.
- 29:56Speaker 3: Sorry. Yeah, and you're gonna be excited by my next
- 29:59Speaker 3: kid piece of news because Dark Arts are coming back
- 30:02Speaker 3: this year. So from September twelfth to November nine, the
- 30:05Speaker 3: classic Dark Arts feature will be back in the studio tour.
- 30:09Speaker 3: So you're going to step into the Great Hall, which
- 30:11Speaker 3: is going to be decorated with over one hundred hand
- 30:14Speaker 3: carved floating pumpkins, face off against Death eaters, learn dueling
- 30:18Speaker 3: spells in the Defense against the Dark Arts classroom, which
- 30:21Speaker 3: This is new because they only incorporated the Defense against
- 30:24Speaker 3: the Dark Arts classroom last year and be prepared for
- 30:27Speaker 3: chilling encounters with dementors lurking in the Forbidden Forest. But
- 30:32Speaker 3: also alternatively, there are other roots available for those who
- 30:35Speaker 3: wish to avoid them. Wouldn't be your case.
- 30:38Speaker 2: No, I would definitely take that root.
- 30:43Speaker 3: Chilling. I mean I would too, to be honest, I
- 30:45Speaker 3: would too. Yeah. And Volldemort's iconic symbol will be illuminated
- 30:52Speaker 3: across the studio tour, so don't forget to pick up
- 30:55Speaker 3: your studio tour passport at the entrance to take part
- 30:57Speaker 3: in the Dark Mark Hunt. So this is pretty much
- 31:00Speaker 3: similar to Knox, but Knox is more like a niche
- 31:03Speaker 3: I feel event, and this is more like the the
- 31:07Speaker 3: you know the season feature like we have Christmas, we.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Have how you would be able to experience this during
- 31:11Speaker 2: the day, like if you had like a day ticket
- 31:13Speaker 2: and you were going it sounds like versus the other ones,
- 31:15Speaker 2: like an after hours event.
- 31:17Speaker 3: Mm hmm, exactly Yeah, exciting, sounds real. And finally, the
- 31:26Speaker 3: last couple news merch related, Rhino has announced the final
- 31:30Speaker 3: four Harry Potters soundtracks on clear vinyl, completing the Franchisees
- 31:34Speaker 3: collection released on Record Store Day this past April. The
- 31:38Speaker 3: set includes the original motion pictures soundtracks from Ordered the Phoenix,
- 31:42Speaker 3: hap Lud, Prince, Zaplie, Hollow Is Part one and Part two.
- 31:45Speaker 3: Each will be available as a two LP crystal clear
- 31:48Speaker 3: vinyl edition at participating physical retail stores on August fifteenth,
- 31:53Speaker 3: twenty twenty five.
- 31:57Speaker 2: Yeah, my local indie stores are still not showing that
- 31:59Speaker 2: the as available, so I may have to just well,
- 32:03Speaker 2: you've ordered from Rhino before for your other onnes I
- 32:05Speaker 2: might have to just bite the bullet and order from
- 32:08Speaker 2: a website that I don't typically order from.
- 32:12Speaker 3: It's still not up for preorder though I checked before
- 32:15Speaker 3: we record it, so they are just teasing it. It
- 32:18Speaker 3: seems like they are on preorder on other websites, but
- 32:21Speaker 3: not on Rhino yet, so I think they're just you know,
- 32:24Speaker 3: they're just going to immliately appear on preorder on most
- 32:27Speaker 3: websites and probably also physical stores. So yeah, it's exciting
- 32:32Speaker 3: to have the collection like being but we were expecting
- 32:35Speaker 3: it to be like the RSD Exclusive twenty twenty six
- 32:38Speaker 3: to one.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Yeah. I did see too that some physical locations will
- 32:44Speaker 2: also have like Harry Potter glasses that are going to
- 32:48Speaker 2: be given as like a gift with purchase, and I
- 32:53Speaker 2: think I saw that on Rhino's website and they're going
- 32:55Speaker 2: to have a like when you get closer to the
- 32:57Speaker 2: day that they're released, you can go and check the
- 32:59Speaker 2: link to see if an indie record store near you
- 33:03Speaker 2: will have them. So that's really cool, and I know
- 33:06Speaker 2: we talked about I think we'll probably see these being
- 33:09Speaker 2: released on that standard black pressing soon after like the
- 33:11Speaker 2: other ones. Yeah, I will definitely be picking up order
- 33:17Speaker 2: the Phoenix and half woodprints and then that will complete
- 33:19Speaker 2: my collection because I already have definitely Hallow's Part one
- 33:22Speaker 2: and Part two.
- 33:23Speaker 3: I was going to ask, since Dephie, Hollow's Part one
- 33:25Speaker 3: is your favorite?
- 33:27Speaker 2: Yep, I already have it. I've had it for years.
- 33:29Speaker 2: I bought it at like a Barnes and Noble. It's
- 33:31Speaker 2: like a standard black pressing I remember before they kind
- 33:35Speaker 2: of stopped carrying them like in the stores.
- 33:38Speaker 4: So yeah, I just need the last two awesome.
- 33:46Speaker 3: So last, but not least, but not least. After weeks
- 33:49Speaker 3: of speculation, Noble Collection has finally revealed what they've been
- 33:53Speaker 3: keeping from us for the past couple months. And yeah,
- 33:57Speaker 3: it's a Patrona's charm one. Our guess is correct, so
- 34:01Speaker 3: to anyone who's out of the loop. Noble Collection had
- 34:04Speaker 3: been teasing a new era of magic starting July twenty
- 34:07Speaker 3: twenty five, and we had been like on our chat group,
- 34:11Speaker 3: we have been discussing what that could be. Nicole said,
- 34:14Speaker 3: it has something to do, most likely with the Patrona's charm.
- 34:17Speaker 3: I said that based off the little sneak peak that
- 34:20Speaker 3: we got, there was some sort of wand stand. So
- 34:23Speaker 3: we were both correct.
- 34:25Speaker 2: Yeah, so does they tease that little blue like the
- 34:29Speaker 2: blue end. I was like, all right, this plus the
- 34:31Speaker 2: forbidden for us, this is patron no doubt.
- 34:34Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, And it looks really nice. It looks
- 34:38Speaker 3: really beautiful. It's a tribute to the Patronus charm in
- 34:42Speaker 3: the film series, with gleaming silver and blue spiral and
- 34:46Speaker 3: the bust of a stag in the handle. Compliment it
- 34:49Speaker 3: with a die cast metal stand and an exclusive Patrona's
- 34:53Speaker 3: charmpin showcasing the spells required one movement. It's the beginning
- 34:58Speaker 3: and this one, this marks the beginning of Noble collections
- 35:01Speaker 3: Celebration Wants series. So it's not going to be a
- 35:03Speaker 3: one off release. They are going to be limited edition
- 35:07Speaker 3: ones inspired by Wizarding Spells, only available for a year.
- 35:11Speaker 1: So where's the.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Right wait? I mean it might be coming with how
- 35:17Speaker 2: prominent Raveellio has been featuring and everything, you know, I'm
- 35:20Speaker 2: going to have to buy that. Yes, this one collection.
- 35:25Speaker 3: Here and this this twenty twenty five want launch is
- 35:32Speaker 3: globally on July twenty fourth, but those who visit the
- 35:36Speaker 3: Noble Collections Covent Garden store in London will get first
- 35:39Speaker 3: dips as the first two hundred and fifty one purchase
- 35:42Speaker 3: will come with an exclusive numbered launch certificate, which as
- 35:46Speaker 3: a collector, I think that's pretty awesome. And just having
- 35:51Speaker 3: one of the first two hundred and fifty copies sold
- 35:54Speaker 3: of the WAND is really like as the collector is,
- 35:57Speaker 3: and it is an accomplishment, so it's so cool to
- 36:00Speaker 3: see this.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Yeah, that's cool.
- 36:03Speaker 2: I was wondering if this would be the start of
- 36:05Speaker 2: them doing like a Patrona's WAND series and they like
- 36:08Speaker 2: would change like you know, obviously this one has you know,
- 36:12Speaker 2: the stag bust, but they could change it to other
- 36:14Speaker 2: patronass But I actually didn't know that they it was
- 36:18Speaker 2: actually part of this more. It seems like more spell
- 36:21Speaker 2: series that they're doing rather than a patrona series. So yeah,
- 36:24Speaker 2: very interested to see how they capture some of the
- 36:27Speaker 2: other spels in a wand form mm hm.
- 36:31Speaker 3: And it makes so much sense when you think about it,
- 36:33Speaker 3: because they're selling wands and you know, the Harry Potter
- 36:36Speaker 3: stores already have their own line of exclusive wants that
- 36:39Speaker 3: could be like props like a time turner or the
- 36:41Speaker 3: Phoenix or Hogwarts. And they were like, Okay, let's just
- 36:44Speaker 3: you know, take it up a notch and see how
- 36:47Speaker 3: we can take it to the next level. Why not spells?
- 36:49Speaker 3: That makes total sense with what they were saying with
- 36:51Speaker 3: a new era of magic, And yeah, like I wouldn't
- 36:55Speaker 3: have ever thought of doing spell themed ones, So it's
- 36:59Speaker 3: stuff interesting.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I cannot wrap my like my brain around how
- 37:05Speaker 2: would you capture like, I don't know, like a garden
- 37:11Speaker 2: or something like that, a feather, but that's what I
- 37:14Speaker 2: was thinking.
- 37:15Speaker 3: Like the handle, I'm thinking probably each handle will have
- 37:20Speaker 3: like the spiral of the correct movement, like they all
- 37:24Speaker 3: have like their own little movement, like when Guardian Leviosa
- 37:26Speaker 3: is so classic, So maybe there's going to be like
- 37:29Speaker 3: a little like twist in each of those and there's
- 37:31Speaker 3: gonna be something that obviously differentiates from others, but yeah,
- 37:37Speaker 3: like interesting, and they were like they were very they said,
- 37:40Speaker 3: there's after this year, they are not going to be
- 37:43Speaker 3: produced again, so it's like it's snag one now or never.
- 37:47Speaker 2: I hate that because I get fomo and I give
- 37:51Speaker 2: in and I buy it because I'm like, if I
- 37:52Speaker 2: don't buy this, i can never get it again.
- 37:55Speaker 1: Or you don't buy it and then you buy it
- 37:57Speaker 1: later when it's like crazy expensive because.
- 38:02Speaker 2: Tickets, yeah, yeah, and other things that I've bought resale
- 38:08Speaker 2: because I keep thinking about it. Well, it is very
- 38:13Speaker 2: nice and excited to see, yeah, what they do with it.
- 38:15Speaker 2: But I still think they should run with the Patrona's
- 38:18Speaker 2: wand series because that would be really easy because just
- 38:22Speaker 2: take We've already got a lot of data right on
- 38:26Speaker 2: some of the most common patronises with Potter Well, I'm
- 38:29Speaker 2: going to keep calling it Potter Moore, but like on
- 38:31Speaker 2: Potter more and how cool would it be like if
- 38:33Speaker 2: your patronis like mine is a Festal. I mean, I
- 38:36Speaker 2: know they already have a Festonal Wand, but if they
- 38:38Speaker 2: were able to build the Festal into the patronis wand
- 38:41Speaker 2: with the stand and they could do like a hair
- 38:43Speaker 2: and like an otter and M. But then when do
- 38:47Speaker 2: you stop? I guess.
- 38:49Speaker 3: But yeah, and the stand is beautiful too, Like I
- 38:55Speaker 3: think it's one of the most beautiful stands I've seen
- 38:57Speaker 3: of the Harry Potter universe in terms of merch, which
- 39:01Speaker 3: I think it's so sells obviously, I'm imagining it will
- 39:04Speaker 3: sell separately. I didn't read into it, but like you
- 39:08Speaker 3: can tell. So, yeah, it's nice because I used to
- 39:11Speaker 3: be against these types of ones back in the day.
- 39:13Speaker 3: I was like, what there's not they're not character once
- 39:16Speaker 3: there's a time turner wand there's a phoenix one. What
- 39:18Speaker 3: the heck is this? Like it didn't make any sense
- 39:21Speaker 3: to me. And there are people who are kind of
- 39:23Speaker 3: like not against it, but have like feel like, you know,
- 39:28Speaker 3: like these kind of like not really feeling these these drops.
- 39:33Speaker 3: But I kind of like them now. I feel like
- 39:34Speaker 3: it's a nice collectible item. And I have the time
- 39:38Speaker 3: Turner one. I think it's the only one I have,
- 39:40Speaker 3: and I love it.
- 39:43Speaker 2: I want that one, but it's exclusive to London, so
- 39:47Speaker 2: another reason for me to go over there. I mean,
- 39:49Speaker 2: I will say like most of my collection now is
- 39:52Speaker 2: these collector wands, and I actually prefer them over the
- 39:55Speaker 2: character wands because they're just so detailed, and I think
- 39:58Speaker 2: it's such a good like I don't know, merchandise piece
- 40:02Speaker 2: to like subtle merchandise piece as well that it's like
- 40:07Speaker 2: a wand obviously, which you know is one of the
- 40:10Speaker 2: biggest things of this universe, but then it also has
- 40:13Speaker 2: these little nods to different things in the universe, and
- 40:17Speaker 2: it's just yeah, I So I'm a big fan of them,
- 40:20Speaker 2: and I hope they continue to make these, or maybe
- 40:22Speaker 2: I hope they don't, because then I won't be tempted
- 40:26Speaker 2: to buy them.
- 40:30Speaker 3: Our wallets will thank it's.
- 40:32Speaker 1: Going to need a bigger vase to display them in.
- 40:35Speaker 2: I already do because that's why my two wands from
- 40:38Speaker 2: epic are still sitting on my kitchen table because I
- 40:40Speaker 2: do not think that my vase will be big enough
- 40:42Speaker 2: to fit them in. So I do think it is
- 40:46Speaker 2: time to get that bigger glass vase.
- 40:54Speaker 3: Okay, So that wraps the news for this week.
- 40:57Speaker 2: Now that we just had a whole episode on the news,
- 41:04Speaker 2: we just got lots.
- 41:05Speaker 3: Of thoughts, oh we do, and I had I had
- 41:08Speaker 3: to crash out a little bit. Yeah, yeah, sorry, it
- 41:13Speaker 3: was required, it was Yeah, But that's a good that's
- 41:16Speaker 3: a fun part that we get to discuss this. You know,
- 41:19Speaker 3: we are, like we said in the first episode, it
- 41:21Speaker 3: just friends who you know, love talking about the Wizarding World,
- 41:23Speaker 3: the good part, the not so good part, you know,
- 41:26Speaker 3: the good, the bad, the ugly. And you know we're
- 41:28Speaker 3: going to keep doing it. So took us out.
- 41:36Speaker 1: All right, now for our main discussion. I'm excited about
- 41:41Speaker 1: this one. So we're doing another character deep dive and
- 41:46Speaker 1: this episode it's Hagrid's term. Talk all about had.
- 41:53Speaker 3: I was so tempted to say, you're a wizard, Harry.
- 41:58Speaker 1: The man, myth, the legend. All right, So some basic
- 42:04Speaker 1: info on our guy Hagrid here. He was born on
- 42:08Speaker 1: December sixth, nineteen twenty eight in the West Country, near
- 42:13Speaker 1: the Forest of Dean in Great Britain, which is according
- 42:17Speaker 1: to an interview with JKR. She says that this explains
- 42:23Speaker 1: his accent. So Hagrid was a half giant. His father
- 42:32Speaker 1: was a wizard and his mother was the giant tess
- 42:35Speaker 1: fred Wolfa, And by the age of six, Hagrid had
- 42:40Speaker 1: grown so big he was able to pick his father
- 42:42Speaker 1: up and set him on top of the dresser when
- 42:44Speaker 1: he was annoyed with him. Fully grown, Hagrid was eleven
- 42:51Speaker 1: and a half feet tall, with hands as big as
- 42:54Speaker 1: dustbin lids, and feet the size of baby dolphins. I
- 42:58Speaker 1: love that description so much, all right. So some etymology
- 43:05Speaker 1: behind his name. Rubius relates to the Latin word rubio,
- 43:12Speaker 1: meaning I am red or reddish, and this word often
- 43:16Speaker 1: refers to complexion, which Hagrid we know turns ruddy after
- 43:22Speaker 1: he drinks. Rubius is also the root of the English
- 43:27Speaker 1: word ruby, so another reference to red. I mean you
- 43:33Speaker 1: can also think he's gryffindor gryffindor read, so there's that
- 43:38Speaker 1: connection as well. And then for his last name, according
- 43:44Speaker 1: to Harrypotter dot com previously Potter More, Hagrid is derived
- 43:49Speaker 1: from the Old English term hag ridden, which means to
- 43:54Speaker 1: be tormented by nightmares or to have sleepless nights, worried
- 43:58Speaker 1: and sleep paralys So I mean this could have a
- 44:04Speaker 1: lot of different meanings with Hagrid, I guess could refer
- 44:08Speaker 1: to like his nights spent drinking, could be his worry
- 44:11Speaker 1: about Harry and the trio. Maybe he's worried about his
- 44:17Speaker 1: blasphemed it screws I don't know. So then his early
- 44:26Speaker 1: life and his family. So we know that Hagrid's mother
- 44:30Speaker 1: abandoned him and his father when he was about three
- 44:33Speaker 1: years old because her son was too small for her liking,
- 44:39Speaker 1: and Hagrid remembers, quote, my dad was heartbroken when she went.
- 44:44Speaker 1: Hagrid tells the trio that she wasn't a really great mother,
- 44:48Speaker 1: that it wasn't in her blood.
- 44:53Speaker 3: Right up there with Unbridge's mom.
- 44:56Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, which is interesting considering how a Ridge treats Hagrid. Yeah,
- 45:07Speaker 1: and we know that Hagrid's mother also had another son, Grop,
- 45:11Speaker 1: who was also apparently very disappointing to her due to
- 45:15Speaker 1: his smaller size. So this is a theme. Hagrid's dad
- 45:23Speaker 1: died during his second year at Hogwarts, and this kind
- 45:28Speaker 1: of gives me thinking, you know, is this kind of
- 45:32Speaker 1: why he took such a shine to Harry. Do we
- 45:35Speaker 1: think he related to him because they were both orphans
- 45:39Speaker 1: in a sense, maybe he saw a little of himself and.
- 45:44Speaker 2: Harry I think yes. I think also, you know, looking
- 45:51Speaker 2: at Hagrid's like early life as well, it kind of
- 45:54Speaker 2: also gives some meaning to like the etymology that we're
- 45:58Speaker 2: talking about with Hagrid and having worried sleepless nights, like
- 46:01Speaker 2: he's kind of had a little bit of like a
- 46:04Speaker 2: rough life, and you know, and he continues to as
- 46:07Speaker 2: we kind of go through his life here and talking
- 46:09Speaker 2: about his time at Hogwarts. So I think it's really fitting.
- 46:12Speaker 2: And I think like Harry also had like a rough
- 46:15Speaker 2: start to life as well and probably sees that with
- 46:20Speaker 2: him and exactly that like knew what it knew what
- 46:25Speaker 2: it was like to not have a proper family because
- 46:28Speaker 2: of his own upbringing and saw that and Harry and
- 46:32Speaker 2: was able to kind of be that I don't want
- 46:35Speaker 2: to say parental figures. I don't know necessarily I feel
- 46:37Speaker 2: like Hagrid's a parental figure so much as like the
- 46:40Speaker 2: family like that found he was like that first found
- 46:43Speaker 2: family for him. So I think that it probably is
- 46:47Speaker 2: very related. And I think also as we'll talk about
- 46:50Speaker 2: as we talk about him more just in nature of
- 46:53Speaker 2: his character and just becoming like this loyal, like caring
- 46:58Speaker 2: person that I think that he is is it's probably
- 47:03Speaker 2: also why he kind of morphed right to Harry. The
- 47:07Speaker 2: Inn was the family and the connection there. I think,
- 47:11Speaker 2: and then he just grew to be very important to him.
- 47:16Speaker 3: Mm hmm. Yeah, it almost feels like more of a
- 47:19Speaker 3: brotherly figure, like a big brother figure. Harry.
- 47:24Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, Hagrid also knows what it's like to kind
- 47:28Speaker 1: of feel out of place like an outsider as well,
- 47:33Speaker 1: so that could also play a part.
- 47:36Speaker 3: M hm.
- 47:41Speaker 1: So speaking of family, obviously this is ahead in the
- 47:46Speaker 1: timeline a little more, but Hagrid does find his half
- 47:49Speaker 1: brother Grop and insists on bringing him back to hide
- 47:54Speaker 1: him in the Forbidden Forest, somewhat against Grop's will. So
- 48:03Speaker 1: why do we think Hagrid was so desperate for group
- 48:07Speaker 1: to fit into his world and want to live with him,
- 48:11Speaker 1: and why was he trying to like forcefully create that family.
- 48:19Speaker 2: I mean, I think similar to like what I mentioned
- 48:23Speaker 2: with Harry that it's just really very telling about Hagrid's character.
- 48:30Speaker 2: I think for him, like he does take familial ties
- 48:33Speaker 2: really seriously, and he just yeah, has this like really
- 48:38Speaker 2: big caring heart, like this is his blood real, even
- 48:41Speaker 2: if it's just his half sibling. Like, I just could
- 48:43Speaker 2: never see Hagrid being the type of person that could
- 48:46Speaker 2: continue to leave him to continue to be bullied and
- 48:49Speaker 2: like be in by the other giants, especially given like
- 48:52Speaker 2: Hagrid's like upbringing in things that have happened to him,
- 48:55Speaker 2: and like, I think that if Hagrid didn't like take
- 48:59Speaker 2: him back to Hogwarts, like I don't know if Grop
- 49:03Speaker 2: would have survived being left with the giants, Like I
- 49:07Speaker 2: think whether they ended up like beating him to death
- 49:11Speaker 2: because of just their I don't know their culture, their ways,
- 49:15Speaker 2: I don't know how you know, but or if they
- 49:17Speaker 2: would have just left him defend to himself, and I
- 49:19Speaker 2: don't think Grop would have done well fending to him
- 49:21Speaker 2: for himself. And I just don't think, Like I don't know,
- 49:26Speaker 2: Hagrid's just so like fiercely loyal and caring, and we
- 49:30Speaker 2: see that even with like the like his caring of
- 49:34Speaker 2: like magical creatures and beasts, and I just don't think
- 49:39Speaker 2: that he could ever just let something like just fend
- 49:45Speaker 2: for themselves like that. Like I'm not saying that he
- 49:47Speaker 2: sees Grop as being just like another one of his
- 49:49Speaker 2: like magical creatures that he has to take care of,
- 49:51Speaker 2: but I think that the fact that it's his half
- 49:54Speaker 2: brother and just adds to that more. And I think
- 50:01Speaker 2: that right he then becomes desperate, you know, to try
- 50:04Speaker 2: and teach him like human language and mannerisms and stuff,
- 50:06Speaker 2: because I feel like that's the only way Hagrid knew
- 50:09Speaker 2: how to save him. Like if he's not going to
- 50:11Speaker 2: fit in with the giants, like he's going to have
- 50:13Speaker 2: to fit in with the humans. And unfortunately it doesn't
- 50:17Speaker 2: work out that way. But I think Hagrid's intentions were
- 50:21Speaker 2: really pure, yeah, with his forceful kind of like you.
- 50:29Speaker 1: You will be my brother, and you will like it
- 50:32Speaker 1: to this tree.
- 50:33Speaker 3: I was also thinking. I was also thinking about the
- 50:37Speaker 3: context where everything happens. So Hagrid already kind of had
- 50:41Speaker 3: this foreshadowing that you know, there were dark times ahead
- 50:45Speaker 3: and that he really probably was worried for the fate
- 50:51Speaker 3: his brother would his half brother would have if you know,
- 50:56Speaker 3: the giants took sides and picked size and you know,
- 50:59Speaker 3: went to the dark side, probably wouldn't be a good
- 51:02Speaker 3: asset anyways, So they would have killed him, they would have,
- 51:06Speaker 3: you know, he would have been just all alone, maybe abandoned.
- 51:10Speaker 3: So I think Hagrid kind of like knowing this is
- 51:14Speaker 3: a dark time was coming, he really and in that
- 51:18Speaker 3: way like forced him to come home with him and
- 51:21Speaker 3: to just try to, you know, make him blend a
- 51:24Speaker 3: little bit more with people. But yeah, it just shows
- 51:27Speaker 3: how much he cares for everyone around him and how
- 51:32Speaker 3: pure he is of heart too.
- 51:36Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, So Hagrid's time at Hogwarts was not easy either.
- 51:46Speaker 1: He began attending Hogwarts in nineteen forty and was sorted
- 51:51Speaker 1: into Gryffindor House in his second year was when his
- 51:56Speaker 1: dad died, as we previously previously mentioned, so already a
- 52:01Speaker 1: rough start there. In his third year, he somehow acquired
- 52:06Speaker 1: Aragog in acromantula. Aragog says, I come from a distant land.
- 52:13Speaker 1: A traveler gave me to Hagrid when I was an egg.
- 52:16Speaker 1: So somehow Hagrid got this egg. Yeah, already up to
- 52:20Speaker 1: sketchy things in his third year.
- 52:24Speaker 2: And the rest was history, right.
- 52:28Speaker 1: Yeah, So that same year he was framed by Tom
- 52:32Speaker 1: Riddle for opening the Chamber of Secrets. Aragog was blamed
- 52:36Speaker 1: for the attacks on muggle borns and Hagrid was expelled
- 52:40Speaker 1: from the school and his wand was snapped in half.
- 52:43Speaker 1: Though we do know he keeps the halves in his
- 52:45Speaker 1: pink umbrella and still does perform magic. So after his expulsion,
- 52:53Speaker 1: Dumbledore convinced headmastered dip it to allow Hagrid to remain
- 52:58Speaker 1: at the school and to train as gamekeeper at the school.
- 53:03Speaker 1: He was not the sole gamekeeper, so gamekeeper Og held
- 53:08Speaker 1: the position until he retired sometime in the late nineteen
- 53:12Speaker 1: sixties or early seventies, and at that point that's when
- 53:16Speaker 1: Hagrid took over the position full time.
- 53:21Speaker 3: So it's so unfair by the way, like his fate
- 53:25Speaker 3: and how he was purposely flip framed by Tom and
- 53:30Speaker 3: just didn't get to live that. I feel like he
- 53:33Speaker 3: always he still has like that child, like this inner
- 53:37Speaker 3: child that is very present in him, and I feel
- 53:39Speaker 3: like he's he regrets and he mourns having missed out
- 53:42Speaker 3: on those years he could have been a student at Hogwarts,
- 53:46Speaker 3: and he yearns it and he kind of like wishes
- 53:48Speaker 3: that he could also be part of That's how I
- 53:51Speaker 3: think sometimes we feel as Hagrid is like the fourth
- 53:54Speaker 3: member of the trio because somehow I feel he's living
- 53:56Speaker 3: those experiences through them, which is really beautiful too.
- 54:00Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean, his childhood was cut short, and
- 54:04Speaker 1: think about it, he was thirteen years old, an orphan
- 54:09Speaker 1: training to take care of the grounds of the school
- 54:11Speaker 1: because he couldn't attend the school, like, that's pretty crappy. Yeah,
- 54:22Speaker 1: so obviously, you know, we know that his wand was
- 54:25Speaker 1: snapped in half, but we do know details about his
- 54:30Speaker 1: actual wand. The wand wood was English oak, which I
- 54:36Speaker 1: have the description of that wand wood from Olivander's notes
- 54:41Speaker 1: previously published on potter More, which say English oak is
- 54:48Speaker 1: a wand for good times and bad. This is a
- 54:52Speaker 1: friend as loyal as the wizard who deserves it. Wands
- 54:56Speaker 1: of English oak demand partners of strength, courage, and fidelity.
- 55:00Speaker 1: Less well known is the propensity for owners of English
- 55:04Speaker 1: Oak wands to have powerful intuition and often in affinity
- 55:09Speaker 1: with the magic of the natural world, with the creatures
- 55:12Speaker 1: and plants that are necessary to wizard kind for both
- 55:15Speaker 1: magic and pleasure. The oak tree is called king of
- 55:19Speaker 1: the forest from the winter salstice up until the summer solstice,
- 55:23Speaker 1: and its wood should only be collected during that time.
- 55:27Speaker 1: Holly becomes king as the days begin to shorten again,
- 55:30Speaker 1: and so holly should only be gathered as the year WANs.
- 55:34Speaker 1: This divide is believed to be the origin of the
- 55:36Speaker 1: old superstition. When his wand's oak in hers is holly
- 55:41Speaker 1: than to Marry would be folly, a superstition that I
- 55:44Speaker 1: have found faceless. It is said that Merlin's wond was
- 55:48Speaker 1: of English oak, though his grave has never been found,
- 55:51Speaker 1: so this cannot be proven. So there's a lot in
- 55:57Speaker 1: there that relates to Hagrid.
- 55:59Speaker 2: I would say, very fitting.
- 56:03Speaker 1: We've got, you know, the natural world, creatures, all that stuff, loyalty, courage, strength. Yeah,
- 56:17Speaker 1: we do not know the core of Hagrid's wand which
- 56:23Speaker 1: we previously speculated over what that core could be in
- 56:30Speaker 1: a Patreon extra after our wand Lower episode, So if
- 56:34Speaker 1: you're interested in listening to that, you can join our
- 56:37Speaker 1: Patreon at the Loomis maximum level and go find that
- 56:41Speaker 1: extended conversation. So Hagrid is one of those characters who,
- 56:52Speaker 1: like many of the adult characters in the Potter series,
- 56:54Speaker 1: were involved in both the First and Second Wizarding Wars.
- 56:58Speaker 1: So during the first was serving war. He was a
- 57:02Speaker 1: member of the original Order of the Phoenix, so presumably
- 57:06Speaker 1: fought against Baltimore during that first war. And we know
- 57:11Speaker 1: also on October thirty first, nineteen eighty one, Hagrid was
- 57:16Speaker 1: the one sent to rescue baby Harry from the rubble
- 57:18Speaker 1: of the house in Godric's Hollow following Baltimore's attack on
- 57:23Speaker 1: the Potters, so he used Series's motorbike and he says
- 57:29Speaker 1: house was nearly destroyed, but I got him out all
- 57:32Speaker 1: right before the Muggles started swarming around. So he was
- 57:36Speaker 1: the one who was trusted to go and carry that out,
- 57:40Speaker 1: which says a lot about his character as well. And
- 57:49Speaker 1: then we've got the whole Sorcerer's Stone situation, which again
- 57:53Speaker 1: is really interesting because it just shows how much Dumbledore
- 57:57Speaker 1: trusts in relies on Hagrids. So not just going and
- 58:01Speaker 1: getting Harry after the attack, but also retrieving Harry to
- 58:08Speaker 1: escort him to Diegat Alley, and while they're there retrieving
- 58:13Speaker 1: the Sorcerer's Stone from the vault. Hagrid's also entrusted with
- 58:20Speaker 1: providing Fluffy for protection of the stone, which, of course
- 58:25Speaker 1: we know how that turns out. He kind of undoes
- 58:27Speaker 1: that protection by telling Quarrel exactly how to get past Fluffy.
- 58:32Speaker 1: But yeah, so las of trusts put into Hagrid for sure.
- 58:42Speaker 1: Then we've got all these false accusals and discriminations. So
- 58:46Speaker 1: some of the troubles that Hagrid faces, we know people
- 58:51Speaker 1: believed he opened the Chamber of secrets during his second year.
- 58:55Speaker 1: His name was never cleared from that, which is interesting,
- 59:02Speaker 1: like you would kind of think maybe they would want
- 59:05Speaker 1: to know more about I guess they were just like, h, well,
- 59:08Speaker 1: the attacks stopped, so.
- 59:10Speaker 3: Whatever, lay it on the half giant.
- 59:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, But this all comes back around again because
- 59:20Speaker 1: Hagrid is sent to Azkaban after the second time the
- 59:25Speaker 1: chamber is reopened. He's accused of being responsible for the
- 59:30Speaker 1: attacks once again and is taken away to the prison
- 59:35Speaker 1: for them, which.
- 59:37Speaker 2: Doesn't even make sense because in the timeframe of the
- 59:41Speaker 2: first time it happened, so the second time that happened,
- 59:45Speaker 2: we literally had this dark wizard rise the power and
- 59:50Speaker 2: become the most powerful thing, do the most I don't
- 59:55Speaker 2: even know, had all these followers, all these other things
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: have happened, and then it reopens again, and for some reason,
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: we're going to immediately assume it was this haig Grid,
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: you know, like this, yeah, this just the person who's
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: been loyal at the school after getting kicked out all
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: these years, and it's just it's like he was the
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: easy target, the easy scapegoat. But it just doesn't make sense,
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: Like I get when it happened the first time, because obviously,
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: like you know, Tom was still Tom at that point
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: and not really knowing, like and then you of course
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: you've got this half giant who's got this giant spider,
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: and it just is like it seems like an easy target.
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: But really like when it happens again, we're just going
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: to go right to that given everything that's happened since then.
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: Yeah, well, in the first time, I don't know how
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: obvious it was that they were going after muggle borns,
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: Like I I don't know if there was messages and
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: things written on the walls like the second time around,
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: probably not, I guess. But the second time around, when
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: it's obvious that someone's going specifically after muggle borns, what
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: would be Hagrid's motivation for that? Like there's none, Like
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: he is also like not a pure blood wizard, so
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: like why would it doesn't make sense there's no motivation there.
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: It's probably Yeah, I think it's probably the perfect cover
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: up just to you know, just kind of like to
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: I don't know, just for the masses, for like the
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: cover story for just you know, keeping things under control.
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: So the Ministry of Magic was really just not wanting
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: to alarm the parents of the students and they were like, Okay,
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: we're just gonna blame it on Hagrid because it's, like
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: you guys said, like the easy target. And maybe they
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: did even think it was him, but it was the
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: simple solution, that the easy way. Yeah.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: Yeah, it's interesting too that, like obviously Dumbledore didn't believe
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: that it was Hagrid the first time around, So it's
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: interesting that in all that span of time, Dumbledore never
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: like pursued it to try and clear Haggard's name, Like
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: I'm sure he had his suspicions that it was Tom Riddle,
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: like I don't know. And it all comes back to too,
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: like kind of that plot hole. And why was the
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: trio the first ones to realize to question myrtle?
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: Well, that is what I was just thinking, Like we
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: literally have the victim still around.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: And they knew.
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: Right, no one ever asks her like did you ever
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: see a person? You know? And maybe not right, but
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: like well yeah she did, like I mean, and and
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: then the description would not match Hagrid at all.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: And the description of the creature wouldn't match Ara Doog.
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: So yeah, yeah, didn't Dumbledore know she was roaming the bathroom?
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: Like yeah, you would think and he knew she was
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: the one who got killed by the basilisk right the
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: first time. So I mean, couldn't you just I mean
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: people talk, the school talks. They never went to that
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: bathroom because it was haunted by her. I mean, they
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: for sure knew. Didn't it ever come up to them
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: to say, hey, Myrtle, by the way, what what's the
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: thing that you you know, why did you die? What happened?
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: Well? And if she was killed by like Aragog, there'd
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: be marks on her body from that there obviously wasn't
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: because she just looked at the basilisk and dropped dead.
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: So whenn'd they figure out from there?
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: But because doesn't have that exactly?
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, no, And I think, like you know what
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: you were saying time, I think that it's like right,
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: because like, could you imagine if at I mean, we're
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: at the beginning of you know, Harry's story, right, you know,
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: we're right at the beginning. Can you imagine if that
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: early on the people of authority, like the ministry gave
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: any suspicion of like we feel like in some way
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: Baltimore is behind this now, like that would cause such
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: an outrage. I mean, we even saw once, once the
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: ministry had confirmation that Baltimore was back, they still didn't
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: even say yep, you know it took. It's like just
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: this disbelief moment. So I think that they were never
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: in the place that early on to say like, no,
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: this is more magic, Like Hagrid was the easy escapegoat
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: here m.
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: Yeah, justice for Hagrid.
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: Oh man, he deserves a second life. Yeah, second shot,
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: second second chance to be a kid again and live
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: his years fully at Hogwarts.
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: Let him finish his Hogwarts education as an adult.
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: Isn't that a great idea for a spinoff?
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: Yeah, that'd be amazing, hagriding classes with all these eleven
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: year olds.
- 1:05:32Speaker 5: Oh, I just picture like Hagrid and like like Lupin's class,
- 1:05:39Speaker 5: like with the Boggart, and like what would his Boggart
- 1:05:42Speaker 5: be like?
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: Yeah, oh mhmm.
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: Well that's unfortunately not the end of Hagrid's brushes with discrimination,
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: and we see Rita Skeeter publishes an article about Hagrid,
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: pinning him to be really stupid, less than human due
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: to his status of being half giant. When that article
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: comes out, Hagrid tried to resign from his teaching post
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: but Dumbledore wouldn't let him. And what's interesting about this
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: to me is wouldn't have hit wouldn't it have been
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: already really obvious to everyone that he was a half giant?
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: Why was this article such a revelation and why did
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: this article alter anything and how anyone perceived him? And
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: I don't know, Like it just seems like obviously he
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: was already half giant, Like wouldn't people know this?
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not like the when someone revealed Lupin's condition.
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: You know, he was forced to resign before he got sacked,
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: Like it's no secret, like you said, like, it's pretty
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: obvious that he was a half giant, So what was
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: the trigger? Really?
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: Right? But we know Umbridge obviously had this major prejudice
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: against Hagrid for his status of a quote unquote half breed,
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: and she had Hagrid put on probation and eventually tried
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: to forcibly remove him from Hogwarts in the middle of
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: the night once Dumbledore was gone from the school. She
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: was obviously trying to avoid the interventions that she got
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: when she fired Trelawney in front of the whole school.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: But yeah, Hagrid was not going to be taken, so
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: he left and went to hide in his cave.
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: That like Hagrid always feels that he needs to retreat
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: or you know, it's it seems like, you know, when
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: he was accused again of reopening the Chamber of Secrets,
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: kind of just accepts that, like you know that there's
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: nothing I can say or do at this point that's
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: going to change how they feel about it. You know,
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: after this rate a Skida article comes out, his first
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: thought is like, I need to resign teaching, like you
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: can't have me on your like your staff, with this
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: stuff out about me. And then to feel like yeah,
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: after that, just hiding away like I don't know, I
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: just I just feel for Hagrid.
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: Yeah, he's probably harder on himself than other people are.
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: He probably has this very like harsh outlook, and he
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: you know, he's probably yeah, feeling like he is. He's
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: actually a brute, you know, like he missed out on
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: his school years. He's uneducated. He is, you know, like
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: he's not worthy of teaching, and he's not worthy of
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: you know, living in Hogwarts.
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: He wasn't even good enough for his mother, who.
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: Yeah, so having all that in your head and and
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: just it just causes a lot of trauma as well.
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: So it's it's sad that that he has that kind
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: of like like you said, like kind of retrieving you know,
- 1:09:40Speaker 3: natural attitude and and not attitude, but like that how
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: he how he stands when those things happen, and where
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: he stands and what he decides to do. He's not
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: fighting back. It's really sad because he probably feels like
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: because of the nature of who he is, he you know,
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: he cannot do anything about.
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: But it's interesting because he like I find that he's
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: like fiercely defensive of like others, but like, yeah, can't
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: seem to be that way about himself, you know. I
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: think about like with the Chamber of Secrets and everything.
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: I feel like in that moment, like his natural inclination
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: was more to like protect Aragog, and like Aragog didn't
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: do anything, like he didn't harm anyone, like rather than
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: being like, wait, I didn't do that, Like I didn't
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: do this either, or I think like you know, when
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: when Buckbeek was on trial and everything and like just
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: being very defensive there, like he has such a kind
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: heart there to protect like these creatures and everything, but
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: like somehow doesn't extend that same kindness to himself, which
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: I think he should, you know, and I think again exactly,
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: it comes from this trauma that started at this early age.
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: It's like this young age coming from your parent no
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: less and is just setting up this whole I'm not
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: good enough and I'm never going to be good enough,
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: And throughout my entire life, people keep telling me that
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: I'm not good enough, starting with my mother when I
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: was younger. And but I think like Dumbledore showed it,
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: like you know what I mean. I think like Dumbledore
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: was the one that was kind of like even if
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: Hagrid didn't realize it, like Dumbledore was doing all these
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: little things to show him that he was good enough,
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: like right, like he was giving him all these tasks
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: that we mentioned that were very important tasks, and was
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: entrusting Hagrid in that, you know, he entrusted Hagrid to
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: be a teacher. I mean, Hagrid literally didn't even finish
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: his education and he was given a teaching post like yeah,
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: but I think that, Yeah, I don't know if Hagrid
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: would ever like pick up on all of these little
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: things like.
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: Which somewhere in the back of his mind, I think
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: he does because look at how defensive he is of Dumbledore. Yes,
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: so that comes from somewhere, but it's somehow not connecting
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: in his mind of like, well, dumble Door treats me
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: this way because I am worthy. It's more like Dumbledore
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: treats me this way and therefore I owe Dumbledore back.
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: Dumbledore treats me this way because he is such a
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: great man, rather than realizing.
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: This. Yeah, and he's taking pity on me. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: even when when he when Dumbledore gets sacked in Chamber
- 1:12:32Speaker 3: of Secrets, he's outraged because of that. But when you know,
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: they're like, okay, yeah, ask him about Okay, there's nothing
- 1:12:37Speaker 3: I can do, like someone has to be yeah, and
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: he just goes. And it's very sad that he doesn't
- 1:12:43Speaker 3: vent for himself the same way that he does for others,
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: so so out of like his pure heart, his pure
- 1:12:51Speaker 3: love and just being the person that he is. And
- 1:12:55Speaker 3: I think it's sad. It's that when you don't love
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: yourself enough to really see those things like how m
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: which Dumbledore valued him and how much the Trio valued
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: him as well. And he I think he always had
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: that sort of like oh, they're taking pity on me
- 1:13:10Speaker 3: because of everything that I've been through, but it's not
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: like I'm worth anything and he never took it that way,
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: which is which is obviously very very sad too.
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't have a good segue in
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: next section. Was like my brain was like tripping out,
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: like wait wait wait, wait no, no, just.
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: Thinking about how sad Hagar's life has been. Yeah, sometimes
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: don't really realize it if you don't really step back
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: and look at all these little things. And yeah, this
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: conversation definitely has made me realize how like just that
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: whole point that I too. Yeah, I had just thought
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: of the like how much he's defended others, but it
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: never seemed to extend that same courtesy on himself because
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: of yeah, just the trauma, and I don't think he
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: has a lot of self worth for himself, and you know,
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: and then yeah, you've got people like Draco coming around
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: and making comments about him and his teaching and all
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: that kind of stuff, and I think that, yeah, Hagrid
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: just takes Then this might to go back to like
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: the RDA Skina article towo what might be different here
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: is that I think he just takes these things to
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: heart and almost like like you kind of mentioned Tom
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: like almost takes them as truth. Like I could see
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: Hagrid being that person who steps back and is like, wait,
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: like am I the monster?
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: Like right, this like actually is writing this thing about me.
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: Therefore that must be true and that must be what
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: everybody else thinks about me too.
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: But that's so sad.
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: That's well, and like imagine too, like not just his
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: mother leaving, but think about what people probably had to
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: say about his parents' relationship a ton. So there's also
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: that there would already be like in the back of
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: his head like where he came from.
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: Yeah, it's sad, well, And I think that's a good
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: segue actually into this next thing you have on the
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: dock here is that I think him, Yes, meeting another
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: half giant, Yeah, helps to open him up in ways
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: that he's never been opened up before.
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: Oh yes, yes, And that of course is referring to
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: his infatuation with Madame Vaccine. Yeah. So when he meets
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: Madame Vaccine, he says himself he's never met another half giant,
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: which she strongly refused that she is one. What are
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: you talking about, I'm just eleven feet tall, tall woman. Yeah,
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: so I mean, it's really understandable why he would have
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: fallen for her right away, having never met anyone else
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: like him. It's not like the dating pools very big
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: for him. But yeah, I mean, did he ever stand
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: a chance with Madame? Let's let's be real.
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: Here, I don't think so. I think that like she
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: is too. I don't know high brow. Is that the
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: word like? I don't think what the phrase would be?
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: Two opposite to it it is.
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: Yeah, opposites do not attract in this scenario unfortunately, mm hmm.
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: But she is enchanted by like the dragons, and you know,
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: kind of like you feel like it's she's someone who
- 1:16:57Speaker 3: finally he's found his match, in the sense that it's
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: someone who finally understands him and that shares, you know,
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: things they share, They have things in common, and they
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: can build a relationship from the ground up in that regard,
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: even if they come from very different backgrounds, I feel
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: they have a great understanding. So I don't know. I
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: want to believe that they might have had a chance.
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: I don't know, because they they do seem very cute,
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: and they had that chemistry obviously, they had that attraction,
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: that mutual attraction and someone was finally like listening to
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: him and you know, him telling him stories about his
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: father and his background, and it's take you know, someone
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: taking real interest in what he was saying and just
- 1:17:44Speaker 3: connecting so well with her. So I don't know, I
- 1:17:47Speaker 3: would like to give them, you know, a chance and
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: think that they probably could have been a thing.
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: Yeah, And I do think, like I would like to
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: think that she also kind of was drawn to him,
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: and you know, the rarity of meeting someone else like her, like,
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: you would think that's probably not been super easy for
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: her either. Obviously she may have fared a little better
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: in getting her education and everything because she is in
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: you know, this leadership role now it's head mistress, but
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: I would imagine life wasn't that easy for her either
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: in getting there. So they could have definitely had this
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: really good connection. But I think, yeah, just differences of
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: personality kind of went out in the.
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: End personality culture bringing I think work, Yeah, I think
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: with what got in their way. But I'm glad that
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: Hagrid had this moment connection in this way with somebody.
- 1:18:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: Yeah. So during the Second Wizarding War, we know that
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: Hagrid was a member of the reinstated Order of the
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: Phoenix as well, and Hagrid in Maxine were actually sent
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: on a mission together by Dumbledore. They were trying to
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: convince the Giants not to join Valdemore, and they made
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: pretty good progress with the Gurg, but two death Eaters
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: that Valdemort sent on a similar mission managed to orchestrate
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: in uprising and get a Baltimore sympathetic Gurg in charge instead.
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: In this forced Hagrid and Maxine to flee, which they
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: did not flee together because Hagrid brought along Grop and
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: Maxine was like, yet, no.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: No thanks, And this is another example of how they
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: would have never worked out, because I think Hagrid would
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: have not given up Grop, no or her and clearly yeah,
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: she was having none.
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: Of it, seem met the laws and was like.
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: I think this is interesting too, because I think that
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: I think obviously at Dumbledore had good intentions here with
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: sending them to try and convince the giants, But I
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: think that it in my mind at least that I
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: feel like the Giants would have always sided with Baltimore.
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: I don't think that there would have been much that
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: the other side I think could have offered especially just
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: the way how manipulative that Tom Riddle is and you know,
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: trying to convince you know, people that are not people
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: but the creatures and you know that are others together.
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: I don't, yeah, but I guess the good thing out
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: of all of this was the rescue. I guess of growth.
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: Something did did good, something good did come out of it.
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, uh yeah. So Hagrid also wore the brunt
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: of some collateral damage during the Battle of the Astronomy Tower,
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: the fleeing death Eaters set Hagrid's hut on fire. We
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: have Hagrid again being tasked with carrying Harry to safety
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: on his motorbike during the Seven Potters. Yeah, so what's
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: kind of interesting is when the trio went on the run,
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: Hagrid did remain in his post at Hogwarts while Snake
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: was Headmaster, but he ended up on the run after
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: he evaded arrest for hosting a support Harry Potter party.
- 1:22:03Speaker 3: At his house.
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: So not the smartest move, Hagrid, you know, I mean.
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: You know, he's had a lot of moments of not
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: the smartest move in his life.
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: Can you just picture like Snape and they had Master's office,
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: like seriously, like now I have to like try and
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: like run you out of here. I could have kept
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: you here and protected you, but no, Hagrid r I
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: had to do this. Yeah, Hagrid also fought in the
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: Battle of Hogwarts, so did Grop because group came along
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: with him. But at some point Hagrid was captured by
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: death Eaters during that battle, and you know he was
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: there when Harry sacrificed himself in the forest and he
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: was made to carry Harry's quote uncle lifeless body back
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: to Hogwarts in that like victory party for the death Eaters.
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: I I I want to say, I love this so much,
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: but I don't love it because I don't love the
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: I don't love the scenario. I don't know made to
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: do yes, But I love the symbolism here and how
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: I feel yes, And I feel like at one time,
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: like Jake Carrott said something about like it had to
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: be Hagrid, Like it had to be like Hagrid is
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: the one that like carried him in to this world
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: and you know when he rescued him as a baby,
- 1:23:39Speaker 2: and it like it just there would have been nobody
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: else to do this, and it's but again, I don't
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: like to say, I love this because it's such a
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: painful thing for Hagrid, you know, because obviously he truly
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: believes Harry is dead in this moment, and I get
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: a little teary. I just like thinking about what Hagrid, like,
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: what could have been going through his mind in that
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: like carrying like who you know. But it's just such
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: a poignant, poignant like you said, yeah, like bookend, And
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: I can't imagine it happening any other way with any
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: other any other character. And I think that even having
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: Hagrid there in that moment versus like Ron and Hermione
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: makes so much more sense. And I'm glad that it's
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: like it was he who was there and not like
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: Ron and Hermione. Yeah, even if that would have made
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: maybe made more sense that they, you know, were there
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: with him and they wanted to be there with him.
- 1:24:36Speaker 4: But poor hag.
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: I'm literally getting teary eyed.
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean he was there to carry Harry away
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: when Valdemart failed in killing him, and then he was
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: there to carry him away when valdemort succeeded. Oh my gosh,
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: oh Hagrid, why uh yeah, So his later life after
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: all of this trauma Hagrid was still at Hogwarts as
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: either gamekeeper, teacher, or both in twenty seventeen because in
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: Chris Child he advice Harry's son Albus to tea, just
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: like he did with Harry when he was at school.
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: So we do know that Hagrid continues to live at
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: Hogwarts post Baldemort era.
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: Yeah, which makes sense because like what else would he do? Right?
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: And I don't mean that in a I don't mean
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: that in like a bad way of like gosh, what
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: else to do in life? Like where would he go?
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: Like that is his home? Like that is his home.
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: That is his Yeah, it's going to make you wonder
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: when he eventually retires. I would imagine he would stay.
- 1:26:02Speaker 2: On and retire. I see Hagrid just kicking around until sadly,
- 1:26:09Speaker 2: you know, parts this earth. I just see him. I
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: don't know, And I think, like the thing about being
- 1:26:17Speaker 2: at Hogwarts is it not only does it give him
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: like a place to like lead or live and shelter
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: and all that kind of stuff, but it's it gives
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: him a place to explore and live out the things
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: that bring him joy, like working with magical creatures and
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: forming connections. Yes, forming connections with students.
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: Like that youthful energy. Like we were saying earlier about
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: how he missed out on that part of his life.
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: I think him forever being around that is such a
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: beautiful way to you know, be able to keep living
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: his youth through all these generations.
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: Relate more to the children and the students than he
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: can be adults. And maybe some of it is because
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: the children aren't as judgmental of him as some of
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: the adults are, and.
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: Right, they don't down on him, like they still came
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: out to him, look at figure, whereas adults sometimes look
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: at him as more childlike mm hmmm hm.
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: Which I get. I mean some of obviously we've talked
- 1:27:26Speaker 2: about he hasn't made, you know, some of the best decisions,
- 1:27:29Speaker 2: you know, I think of you know, his you know,
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: very famous. I shouldn't have said that, and things like that,
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: but I think that and that's what I hate. Like
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: there are some like some pretty negative opinions out there
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: about Hagrid, and a lot of people who you know,
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: really don't like him, you know, as a character. And
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: I think, you know, everyone's like, you know, everyone's got
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: their own opinions about characters and stuff. But I think
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: some some of it is like really trying to step
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: back and like look at his life and what could
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: contributing to the reason why, you know, he acts the
- 1:28:05Speaker 2: way he does or he gets himself involved in some
- 1:28:08Speaker 2: of these situations. Like it's not just because, in my opinion,
- 1:28:12Speaker 2: it's not just because he's quote unquote stupid, like Rita
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: Skeeter wants to make him seem I think it's a bye.
- 1:28:20Speaker 2: I think it's a byproduct of his life and his experiences.
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: Yeah, m hm. So knowing all of this background and
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: thinking about it a little bit more, does Hagrids start
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: to make more sense as a character, Like I think
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: you already kind of alluded.
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: To this, Nicole, but yes, for exactly the reasons like
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: I just said, because I think on surface level he
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: might seem like this. I don't know, just I hate
- 1:28:57Speaker 2: using the word like stupid, but I know that's what
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: is referred to a lot with coming with him, you know, think, yeah,
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: like Draco, you know you've got this oh teaching classes,
- 1:29:07Speaker 2: Like there's just this constant feeling of you know, of that,
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: And I think, yeah, he's gotten the trio as well
- 1:29:15Speaker 2: into some precarious situations as well. But I don't think
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: there's ever this bad intention there. I think it's all
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: the things that we've been talking about about why he
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: relates to them so much, And I just think he's
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: a seriously like misunderstood character, like by a lot of
- 1:29:34Speaker 2: the other characters in the series and maybe by some
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: fans as well, But he really is such a pivotal character,
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: like truly, like this story would not be the same
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: without him at all, and he's such a pivotal person
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: in Harry's life, and so like you just, yeah, you
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: can't deny how important he is to the story.
- 1:29:56Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think he might come off as
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: someone reckless to like a lot of the students, even
- 1:30:06Speaker 3: Harmione questions him a lot as a teacher, and sometimes,
- 1:30:11Speaker 3: like you, Senecole has put them in very dangerous circumstances,
- 1:30:14Speaker 3: like you know, telling them to speak to the spiders
- 1:30:17Speaker 3: and follow the trail to leading to Aragog, who would
- 1:30:21Speaker 3: literally feel them right.
- 1:30:23Speaker 2: But because he's loyal to me, I don't think Hagrid
- 1:30:27Speaker 2: thought that through.
- 1:30:29Speaker 3: No, So it's I can see why sometimes people might
- 1:30:33Speaker 3: have these kind of like mixed opinions on and Hagrid,
- 1:30:37Speaker 3: But again, he doesn't do it purposefully. He doesn't do
- 1:30:39Speaker 3: it out of like, you know, he's I think he's
- 1:30:44Speaker 3: just there's a point where he's just naive and he's
- 1:30:47Speaker 3: got this he's he's like a child. He's like a
- 1:30:49Speaker 3: child in.
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: The immaturity, Like there is some maturity there, yes, but
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: like look at his life and see why that is
- 1:30:57Speaker 2: why that is the case.
- 1:30:59Speaker 3: You don't you don't to live your childhood years, so
- 1:31:02Speaker 3: you know that comes out eventually and that really, you know,
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: you have to learn to cope with that, and how
- 1:31:08Speaker 3: do you do it well? To Hagrid, it is, you know,
- 1:31:10Speaker 3: living it through his students, even though sometimes that means
- 1:31:14Speaker 3: put in them in danger, whether in his classes or
- 1:31:18Speaker 3: whether in you know, peril or you know, other situations,
- 1:31:22Speaker 3: darker situations. But I think he's just you know, doing
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: it out of his naiveness and out of you know,
- 1:31:29Speaker 3: like the fact that he hasn't fully I feel he
- 1:31:33Speaker 3: hasn't fully matured as an adult. And when you see
- 1:31:36Speaker 3: him the first time you see him and he's meeting
- 1:31:38Speaker 3: the first year students, he's like, whoa, this is some
- 1:31:41Speaker 3: hell of a you know, authority figure, and you know
- 1:31:44Speaker 3: he must have something off his sleeve, and he's you know,
- 1:31:47Speaker 3: he's he's got his bow, and you know, he has
- 1:31:51Speaker 3: that kind of like very intimidating figure. But when you
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: see it's like it's just it seems almost like a cover,
- 1:31:58Speaker 3: like a shell for that little child that's still there
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: and is still living those experiences through these newer generations
- 1:32:06Speaker 3: of students. And yeah, I think I don't. I can
- 1:32:11Speaker 3: see why people might have these opinions. But at the
- 1:32:13Speaker 3: same time, and knowing this and reading through this and
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: just looking back, you say, wow, like he really has
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: been through it all and more than many of the
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: adult characters that have done and gone off to do
- 1:32:30Speaker 3: much worse things and much worse decisions. And knowing that
- 1:32:35Speaker 3: even though he had all that, he persevered really tells
- 1:32:39Speaker 3: a lot about him and his character and how brave
- 1:32:42Speaker 3: he is, how bold he is, how much he speaks
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: to the gryffind Or house, how much of gryffind Or
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: he is, how you know, And yeah, I just think
- 1:32:49Speaker 3: he's probably the most kind hearted character in the whole series.
- 1:32:55Speaker 2: I doesn't same as you were saying that, I'm like, gosh,
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: he had so many things in his life that could
- 1:32:59Speaker 2: have been the origin of his villain story. Yeah, you know,
- 1:33:04Speaker 2: and it did not go that way at all. It
- 1:33:06Speaker 2: went the total opposite, and like you said, he became
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: one of the most kind hearted people ever. But like
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: he really, yeah, he really could have gone that other way,
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: and it almost would have been justifiable, like you know,
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: given things that have happened in his life, and I
- 1:33:20Speaker 2: think that speaks very truly to his cure nature, like
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: who he truly is.
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely, I love doing these character deep dives because
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: it just gets you thinking so much more.
- 1:33:37Speaker 2: For me too, I yeah, I was gonna say, I
- 1:33:38Speaker 2: have never gotten. I have never got like I mean,
- 1:33:41Speaker 2: I literally had tears in my eyes thinking about it.
- 1:33:43Speaker 3: I've never felt.
- 1:33:43Speaker 2: That emotional about Hagrid before or really like I don't know,
- 1:33:47Speaker 2: And I think, Yeah, these conversations are good because I
- 1:33:51Speaker 2: think that, you know, it can help you know if
- 1:33:55Speaker 2: you have varying opinions of characters as well, like really look,
- 1:33:59Speaker 2: I think of like even just our Umbradge episode and
- 1:34:02Speaker 2: talking about like a villain though, but really deep diving
- 1:34:05Speaker 2: in to see like why, like those nuances of like
- 1:34:08Speaker 2: why somebody becomes the way that they are, whether they
- 1:34:11Speaker 2: become a villain like her or they become you know,
- 1:34:14Speaker 2: kind hearted, like like Hagrid is just I think, yeah,
- 1:34:19Speaker 2: I think it's important to step back and look at
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: it more because there's just so much behind all of
- 1:34:24Speaker 2: these characters than just I don't know what you see
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: on the paper.
- 1:34:30Speaker 3: Mm and pinpointing exactly what these upbringings brought to these
- 1:34:34Speaker 3: characters and what decisions they make, Like you know, like
- 1:34:38Speaker 3: Dumpler said, it is not our abilities to tell us
- 1:34:42Speaker 3: who we are. It is our choices, choices. So I
- 1:34:46Speaker 3: feel that that really reflects so well on all of
- 1:34:49Speaker 3: these adult characters and their motive behind And you know,
- 1:34:53Speaker 3: I think Umbridge became a villain for much less than Hagrid,
- 1:34:58Speaker 3: Like Hagrid would have been like you say that they'll
- 1:35:00Speaker 3: go like much more justified, but no, and he went
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: the other way, like it couldn't be more opposite.
- 1:35:08Speaker 2: Like so far the other way.
- 1:35:09Speaker 3: Yes, and that's admirable, Yeah.
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: It is, And it's it's interesting. I never would have
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: really thought about, man, let me compare Hagrid and Umbrage,
- 1:35:19Speaker 2: but there really is some comparative, right did you think
- 1:35:22Speaker 2: of them coming from similar upbringings in a way in
- 1:35:25Speaker 2: terms of their family, but how different they became and
- 1:35:29Speaker 2: even when you think about like their looks, right, like
- 1:35:33Speaker 2: we talked about how Umbrage takes on this like very
- 1:35:36Speaker 2: pink and girly and like kind of like innocent look
- 1:35:41Speaker 2: to kind of cover up how evil she really is.
- 1:35:45Speaker 2: And then, like you mentioned earlier, Tom Hagrit's got this
- 1:35:47Speaker 2: like on first look, he's very intimidating. Right, He's tall
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: and burly and has got this like you know, this arrow,
- 1:35:55Speaker 2: and he just I mean, if he was coming at me,
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: I would be like, oh my god. But then he
- 1:35:59Speaker 2: opens his mouth and talks and you're like, oh my god,
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: you're the sweetest thing ever. Like it's the polar opposite
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: like of her in terms of like I don't know,
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: it's just can't cover.
- 1:36:12Speaker 3: Yeah, And the I think when when when we get
- 1:36:15Speaker 3: his like his iconic entrance and sorts of stow, like
- 1:36:18Speaker 3: he tears that that door down, he and he's like
- 1:36:21Speaker 3: the first thing he says is sorry about that, And
- 1:36:23Speaker 3: that immediately says you know, tells you character, Yes, it
- 1:36:28Speaker 3: tells you everything you need to know, what his intentions are,
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: what kind of character he is, how you know, lighthearted
- 1:36:34Speaker 3: he is just those two few seconds it's happy.
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: Yeah, that shot and that that scene is so good
- 1:36:41Speaker 2: because it's like he does look terrifying, Yes, coming in
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: that door. The music fills and you don't see his face.
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: He's like and then yeah, and then he just like yeah,
- 1:36:51Speaker 2: it's that's exactly it. That scene right there tells you
- 1:36:54Speaker 2: everything you need to know about him.
- 1:36:56Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, oh oh man.
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: Yeah, well well I think that does it for the
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: main But in our next segment there's there's more Hagrid.
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: So yeah, because we yes, we love a good theme
- 1:37:19Speaker 2: around here, even being seemed right special, So in this
- 1:37:38Speaker 2: episode for a rotating segment, we wanted to do specialis Revellio,
- 1:37:43Speaker 2: and in keeping with the theme of Hagrid, we thought
- 1:37:45Speaker 2: it would be really fitting to do a little specially
- 1:37:47Speaker 2: Alis Revellio style mini deep dive into one of Hagrid's
- 1:37:52Speaker 2: most beloved creatures, the hippograph. So hippogriffs are magical beasts
- 1:37:59Speaker 2: that have legs, wings, and the head of an eagle
- 1:38:03Speaker 2: and then the body hind legs in tail of a horse.
- 1:38:08Speaker 2: So they're very similar to the griffin, which is another
- 1:38:11Speaker 2: magical creature, but instead of having a horse body, the
- 1:38:15Speaker 2: griffin has a lion rear, so hippogriffs are native to
- 1:38:21Speaker 2: Europe and they can come in several different colors, so
- 1:38:25Speaker 2: there can be like the stormy gray like buckbeak, bronze,
- 1:38:30Speaker 2: a pinkish color, a chestnut color, and black. Hippogriffs are
- 1:38:36Speaker 2: carnivorous and their diet consists mainly of insects, birds, and
- 1:38:40Speaker 2: small mammals such as ferrets. I thought this was interesting.
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: When hippogriffs breed, they build a nest on the ground
- 1:38:50Speaker 2: and they lay a single egg and that egg usually
- 1:38:54Speaker 2: hatches within twenty four hours. Oh, very very quick turnaround
- 1:38:58Speaker 2: time there. And yes, and the infant hippogriffs are actually
- 1:39:03Speaker 2: capable of flight within a week, but it does take
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: them many months before they're strong enough to be able
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: to you know, accompany their hippogriff parents on long journeys.
- 1:39:15Speaker 2: So hippogriffs are dangerous, potentially even extremely dangerous until they're tamed,
- 1:39:22Speaker 2: and this should only be attempted by a trained witch
- 1:39:25Speaker 2: or wizard such as Hagrid. And so for this reason
- 1:39:30Speaker 2: they are given the Ministry of Magic classification of XXX,
- 1:39:35Speaker 2: which is because they are dangerous to humans but could
- 1:39:39Speaker 2: possibly be trained. So we know that when you are
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: attempting to train or you know, build trust with a hippogriff.
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: You should maintain eye contact when approaching them, and bowing
- 1:39:52Speaker 2: shows your good intentions. And you know, our hippogriffs are
- 1:39:56Speaker 2: intensely proud creatures and they should be allowed to make
- 1:39:59Speaker 2: that first move. So you should only draw closer if
- 1:40:02Speaker 2: the hip if the hippogriff returns that greeting with a bow.
- 1:40:08Speaker 2: And you know, Draco shows us exactly what happens when
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: you don't do that. And hippogriffs, like Hagrid, really can
- 1:40:19Speaker 2: be fiercely loyal and protective of those who have earned
- 1:40:23Speaker 2: their trust. So we do see this a few times
- 1:40:26Speaker 2: with buck Beak and Harry, such as when buck Beak
- 1:40:29Speaker 2: attacks Snape in defense of Harry during the Battle of
- 1:40:33Speaker 2: the Astronomy Tower. And they a little bit about the
- 1:40:38Speaker 2: etymology of the word hippogriff. So it's a combination of
- 1:40:41Speaker 2: Greek and Italian roots. So the name comes from the
- 1:40:45Speaker 2: Greek word hippos, meaning horse, and the Italian griffo meaning griffin.
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: And of course hippogriffs are not, you know, native creatures
- 1:40:58Speaker 2: to the Harry Potter universe. They can be found, you know,
- 1:41:00Speaker 2: throughout mythology and folklore, and the hippogriff is actually the
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: creation of a Renaissance poet named loud Vico as Aristoto
- 1:41:11Speaker 2: Bristo not exactly sure, Yes, in a poem called Orlando Furioso.
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: And actually read the poem and it's very nice. And
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: this is yes, the first time that a hippogriff is mentioned.
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: So then of course, like as it just kind of mentioned,
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: the hippogriff would go on to appear in various works
- 1:41:34Speaker 2: of fantasy, and of course playing a prominent role in
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: the Harry Potter series.
- 1:41:39Speaker 3: Yeah, h cool.
- 1:41:44Speaker 2: Yes, I think they're very cool creatures.
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: Yeah they are.
- 1:41:47Speaker 3: And just imagining a baby hippogriff just so cute.
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: Wings just like trying but not quite.
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: So cute.
- 1:42:00Speaker 3: And I love how much this also speaks of Hagrid
- 1:42:02Speaker 3: and how the connection he has to tame a beast
- 1:42:06Speaker 3: that is classified XXX by the Ministry Magic and being
- 1:42:10Speaker 3: able to train him just speaks of how much he's
- 1:42:14Speaker 3: he blends with these characters, how much he connects with
- 1:42:17Speaker 3: them much more than he connects with humans on a
- 1:42:20Speaker 3: much deeper level, which you know, I think kind of
- 1:42:24Speaker 3: like you know, also is a good reason why Dumbledore said, Okay,
- 1:42:29Speaker 3: he's good for the post, he's good for this, for
- 1:42:31Speaker 3: this teaching, and you know, he's actually very very talented naturally.
- 1:42:38Speaker 2: If you think about it, the animals and the magical creatures,
- 1:42:44Speaker 2: and they're not looking at Hagrid in the same way
- 1:42:48Speaker 2: that the other humans are, like speaking back to the
- 1:42:53Speaker 2: discrimination that we talked about, like they're seeing those pure
- 1:42:57Speaker 2: intentions of Hagrid that we you know, uncovered. They're not seeing, oh,
- 1:43:03Speaker 2: he's a half giant, he's other. You know, it's they're
- 1:43:07Speaker 2: seeing no, like they're getting that. You know. It's like
- 1:43:10Speaker 2: it's like animals in the Muggle world, right, like they.
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: Can they don't care they pick or what your background is,
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: not at all.
- 1:43:18Speaker 2: They're just they're just going solely on vibes, like they
- 1:43:20Speaker 2: pick up your vibes. They don't even need much to
- 1:43:23Speaker 2: pick up on your vibes. And I think this is
- 1:43:25Speaker 2: truly why we see characters like Hagrid and honestly also
- 1:43:30Speaker 2: Newts Commander like bonding so well with these animals more
- 1:43:35Speaker 2: so than even humans.
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: Yes, because their intentions are pure and the animal world
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: can see that, Like, I mean, how many times do
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: we see like a cat or a dog take a
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: very strong dislike to a person in our world even
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: done something, yes, but usually it's like they're pick not
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: something there.
- 1:44:04Speaker 2: And I think like Hagrid also like just knows how
- 1:44:08Speaker 2: to treat these creatures with respect because he is also
- 1:44:12Speaker 2: you know, he's also different. You know, he's not fully human.
- 1:44:15Speaker 2: He's also not fully a giant, and so I think
- 1:44:18Speaker 2: he he's been misunderstood in his life and so he
- 1:44:22Speaker 2: can relate to these creatures that are also misunderstood. Right.
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: You have all these people that you know are terrified, right,
- 1:44:29Speaker 2: they see Aragogue and they're terrified, and Hagrids just like no,
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: like you're he's just misunderstood.
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: And you see this a lot with people who maybe
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: struggle socially with other humans, but they find that they
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: have that connection and more of a place with creatures,
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: non humans, animals.
- 1:44:54Speaker 2: And I think it's because there's that lack of judgment
- 1:44:56Speaker 2: there and.
- 1:44:59Speaker 3: Uncondition love.
- 1:45:02Speaker 2: And I think that the other thing that's nice about
- 1:45:06Speaker 2: this is it also just really reflects like the deep
- 1:45:09Speaker 2: connection between like Hagrid and Harry, because these creatures that
- 1:45:15Speaker 2: you know, learn to trust, Hagrid also very quickly learned
- 1:45:21Speaker 2: to trust Harry, like I think of buck Beak and
- 1:45:24Speaker 2: the way that you know, like I mentioned that buck
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: Beak does become fiercely loyal to Harry and honestly like
- 1:45:32Speaker 2: also how quickly buck Beak took to serious and seeing
- 1:45:38Speaker 2: serious as pure intentions as well. So I think that, Yeah,
- 1:45:45Speaker 2: another little tangent off from the Hippogrips, but I think
- 1:45:47Speaker 2: that it's talking about, you know, a magical creature in
- 1:45:53Speaker 2: regard to Hagrid is just so fitting because it does
- 1:45:56Speaker 2: tell so much about his character. Yeah, in a lot of.
- 1:46:02Speaker 4: Ways, all the warm fuzzies.
- 1:46:13Speaker 2: Okay, So last episode we asked what are you most
- 1:46:17Speaker 2: looking forward to about Ministry of Magic? So of course
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: here we were referring to the area at Epic Universe.
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: So Jerry shared from early on in the reports about
- 1:46:31Speaker 2: what was going to happen in the Wisdom World segment
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: of Epic Universe. I was very excited about the Circus show.
- 1:46:37Speaker 2: I won't try to spell it in French. Interestingly, Jerry,
- 1:46:41Speaker 2: so I always thought it was Arcanis and it's Arcanew
- 1:46:46Speaker 2: and so Amy and I literally looked at each other
- 1:46:48Speaker 2: and I'm just trying to think, like did I literally
- 1:46:50Speaker 2: watched Crimes of Grendelvald last night, and I can't I
- 1:46:53Speaker 2: was I was working on this dock as I was
- 1:46:54Speaker 2: watching it, so I can't remember. I don't think they
- 1:46:57Speaker 2: say it. I think they just say the circus.
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: For years, for years on Speak Beast, we called it
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: circus arcanas.
- 1:47:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I've always said that very version. Yeah, so americanized.
- 1:47:12Speaker 2: And I will tell you like during the like the
- 1:47:15Speaker 2: pre show, they start, they keep saying, you know, the
- 1:47:19Speaker 2: circ ar canoe, and Amy and I literally turned to
- 1:47:21Speaker 2: each other and we're like, oh, okay, well we say
- 1:47:24Speaker 2: that's wrong. So yeah, fun fact it is circu ar canoe,
- 1:47:31Speaker 2: which does sound much more French than incan arcanis.
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: Sounds very better to find out eight years later.
- 1:47:37Speaker 3: Than ever exactly.
- 1:47:39Speaker 2: Yeah, so Ben Jerry said so, and listening to Nicole
- 1:47:46Speaker 2: and Amy's comments, I feel even more strongly that this
- 1:47:49Speaker 2: will be a high point of the land for me.
- 1:47:51Speaker 2: The First Fantastic Beast movie is my favorite of all
- 1:47:54Speaker 2: the Wizarding World movies, in part since for the Harry
- 1:47:57Speaker 2: Potter movies, I was always comparing it to the Looks.
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: So your comments about the show and how inspired much
- 1:48:04Speaker 2: the same feelings as first viewing the first Fantastic Beast
- 1:48:07Speaker 2: movie makes me sure that I will love the show.
- 1:48:09Speaker 2: I want to see new and all of his Beast
- 1:48:11Speaker 2: friends once again.
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:48:14Speaker 2: And I replied to Jerry's email and said, absolutely, I
- 1:48:18Speaker 2: know that you will love the show, and of the
- 1:48:21Speaker 2: two attractions in this land, the show is definitely, you know,
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: my favorite, comparing it, you know, with the ride, and yes,
- 1:48:28Speaker 2: it definitely gives you all those warm, fuzzy feelings. And
- 1:48:32Speaker 2: I cannot wait to hear what you think of the show, Jerry,
- 1:48:35Speaker 2: when you go yeah.
- 1:48:38Speaker 3: And also being her favorite film all off of all
- 1:48:41Speaker 3: the Wizarding World films speaks volumes of how much you
- 1:48:44Speaker 3: know she loves it. And it's an unpopular opinion, but
- 1:48:47Speaker 3: one of those unpopular opinions that are like good, you know,
- 1:48:50Speaker 3: because you don't always hear that someone says Fantastic Piece
- 1:48:53Speaker 3: is my all time favorite movie. So it's great to
- 1:48:56Speaker 3: see that there's this niche of the fandom that feels
- 1:48:59Speaker 3: at home probably more with these with the with Newt
- 1:49:03Speaker 3: and the Beasts than they did with Harry, which is amazing.
- 1:49:06Speaker 3: And it just speaks how rich the Wizarding World is.
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: I will say, Jerry, that first Fantastic Beast movie is
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: right up there on my list as well. I don't
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: know if it's number one or not, because I don't
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: know if I could ever give a number one, but it's.
- 1:49:23Speaker 2: Often choosing a favorite child.
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: Yeah, it's you know, I.
- 1:49:27Speaker 2: Will say, of the three Fantastic Beast films that we have,
- 1:49:30Speaker 2: it's not my favorite of the three. But that's not
- 1:49:35Speaker 2: for any bad reasons. It's just I like the other
- 1:49:37Speaker 2: ones more because they're darker and politically driven and I
- 1:49:40Speaker 2: just like that and I love Grenavalden double Dore story.
- 1:49:43Speaker 2: But yes, like, I do really want to go back
- 1:49:46Speaker 2: and watch that first one because I think exactly what
- 1:49:48Speaker 2: you said, Jerry. Like, so, the thing that's great about
- 1:49:52Speaker 2: that movie is that you can go in without the comparison.
- 1:49:56Speaker 2: There really is nothing to compare it to. There's no
- 1:50:00Speaker 2: you know, nods to really any kind of story that
- 1:50:02Speaker 2: we already know about.
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: Before, to sit back and just enjoy the movie.
- 1:50:07Speaker 2: Yeah, and I have never thought of it really in
- 1:50:09Speaker 2: that way and how so, Yeah, So thank you for
- 1:50:13Speaker 2: sharing that, Jerry.
- 1:50:15Speaker 3: So for our discussion question, do you feel that Hagrid
- 1:50:20Speaker 3: is a misunderstood character? Why or why not? As always,
