- 2:36easy Money, Easy money. There's no such thing as easy money. Mike
- 2:40Trent, the brilliant ex magician turned rackets detective, has a most revealing story
- 2:46of the charity benefit racket Tonight. You're going to enjoy hearing the inside facts
- 2:50on how this swindle works now here. He is the arch enemy of the
- 2:53confidence man. Mike Trent, Thank you, Adel and good evening, ladies
- 2:58and gentlemen. Tonight story deals with a percentage gambler and how charity sometimes begins
- 3:04and ends in a con man's pocket. Patsy Ryan, my girl Friday came
- 3:07into my office a couple of weeks ago, are all excited about an idea
- 3:10of hers? I'm Michael. Oh, a brilliant idea. Congratulate me.
- 3:15When you get a bright idea, Patsy aren't suspicious. It usually means trouble
- 3:20for me and work. But go ahead, kids, we're gonna throw a
- 3:22party. Oh no, oh no, not me. You don't get me
- 3:24mixed up on any help. Put no, not you the children's hospital girls.
- 3:29I'm a local committee. Oh oh, well that's different. All right.
- 3:31How many tickets am I supposed to buy? And what do they call?
- 3:34I'm not so fast as mission is going to be free? Free?
- 3:37Oh it sounds like a racket. That's the first earmark of every good con
- 3:40game. Well, this is going to be a Mother of Carlo party.
- 3:44Oh with a light dawn. Gambling of all kinds, chuckle uck, wulett,
- 3:46dice, black jacket, every n I want to swell idea, Patsy.
- 3:50It take should be plenty high. So many people like to gamble,
- 3:53and they can excuse themselves on the ground that it's for a good cause.
- 3:57That's the way I think you. All right, Well you'll have to get
- 4:00let will can chuckle luck layouts and you want to be sure you have confident
- 4:01operators. Oh, that's all taken care of. Uh not by you,
- 4:04I hold, Patsy, you would know a good chuck luck operator from a
- 4:06pharaoh dealer. Don't worry, mister Lanning has arranged everything. Mister who Lanning
- 4:13the head of Marta Carlo Knight's producing company. Oh, yes, yes,
- 4:16it's usually I've heard about him. He puts on parties like this for organizations
- 4:20all over the country. He furnishes the imitation money that people gamble with,
- 4:26and he has a whole cruel game operators. They bring in all the equipment.
- 4:30I say, what that sounds like a beautiful seven. Sure, and
- 4:31all we have to do is give mister Lanning thirty percent of the profits.
- 4:34Well, eighty costs is more than that direct the games more than what more
- 4:39than thirty percent of the profit? How much exactly is thirty percent of the
- 4:44profits? You know? You know, Patsy might guess, is that mister
- 4:48Lanning's going to be mighty well paid for his trouble. Mighty well paid.
- 4:53You may think maybe he's cookie. No, I don't know. I don't
- 4:56know, but I think I'll talk to him. If you haven't any objections
- 4:59Michael, I wish you would he staying at the Five Oaks. Who'll carry
- 5:01you well? As long as you're mixed up in this thing, Patty,
- 5:03I wanted to work out right, So I'm going to go over to the
- 5:06Five Oaks right now, and I'll still know whether mister Lanny is Sonny up
- 5:10and that would you please? Yep, I'll let you know whatever I tryed
- 5:13out. How do you do, do you, mister Lannie? Yeah,
- 5:24you're the follow It just phoned up. Yes, that's right, my trin
- 5:27Okay, Trent, take a load off the feet, have a cigar.
- 5:30Thanks. Watch the pitch well with Patsy. Ryan tells me you're going to
- 5:34run the Monty Carlo party for the Children's hospital benefit. That's right? Why
- 5:39well, I want the girls who are handling that party to make plenty of
- 5:41money for their fund. I wouldn't want the promoter to make it all Car't.
- 5:46I've been a gambler all my life. I've won and lost a lot
- 5:49of dough. He used to be a hunch gambler, you know what I
- 5:51mean? Oh yeah, she would have lost my shirt that way. Watched
- 5:55a lot of other suckers go broke. Finally, I got smart. Oh
- 5:59was a gambler gets smart by learning to play the percentages. I started a
- 6:02real sure thing. This Monte Carlo Knight's layout. You mean the percentage is
- 6:06good, I mean it's perfect. First place, I got the house percentages
- 6:10with me, not against me. I'm on the right side of the gambling
- 6:13table for once. In the second place, a society mob about to give
- 6:16their door to charity. Don't care how much they lose. Say I get
- 6:20thirty percent of the take. That can be real, though, Yeah,
- 6:24you sure there's no strong arms do They don't need to be pal I can
- 6:29make too much planet straight to try any phony business. You know, Well,
- 6:31what't you say sounds convincing, Lenny, it's the truth. This outfit
- 6:35that's putting on the party. I'll get an honest seventy percent of the prophets.
- 6:39My take is thirty. See, I ain't greedy. Well, any
- 6:44of that's set up, Bet'll be as honest as it sounds what you're driving
- 6:46at. I'll be at that putty. And if there's any funny business,
- 6:49I play the percentages charm. Don't you worry about me? Yeah, we'll
- 6:54just see through it. Nobody monkeys with those percentages. I know my way
- 6:57around better than the girls who are putting on this benefit party, and I
- 7:00don't intend to see them cheating. I'll tell you you got nothing to worry
- 7:02about it. It's all a kind of friendly proposition. Yeah, okay,
- 7:08hope. So anyway, well I'll see the party. I just remember what
- 7:13I said. Oh, Mike, I played the party to a halling success.
- 7:27I can't remember when I had so much fun. Well, I'm fine,
- 7:30Fatsy, but don't be quite so reckless for that imitation money, Michael.
- 7:32It isn't real money. No, it costs real money, and it's
- 7:35redeemable for real money. You know you've lost about twenty bucks worth of it
- 7:39already in the evening. Is still yet? Oh it's all a good cause,
- 7:42and we really want to be able to turn over plenty of profit.
- 7:44Everybody's beending scared. Yeah, yeah, I don't have to admit that Landing
- 7:47knows how to run a party. Of this guy, he shortage his business.
- 7:49Oh, Mike, come on, ood here, let's say some chuckle
- 7:51luck. We haven't tried that yet. Yeah, well, okay, pantcy,
- 7:54But there's a game where you can get rid of your money real fast.
- 7:57It's only six numbers. This is the game where you get a fifty
- 8:00fifty break six numbers and three dice, and we pay even money. If
- 8:03a Stus and Tray wins. The house pays what it takes off of four,
- 8:07five and six. Here's the game where the house can't win. Well,
- 8:11I don't see why we're running this game, right, you don't what
- 8:13we can't make any money yet? It Well, that's what you think,
- 8:16Patty. It's got the heaviest dods in its favor of any game in the
- 8:18room. Michael the man, Jeff cob one of those twenty ten dollar bills
- 8:22or one of the numbers? Good? Oh, met half a dollar in
- 8:24real money, go ahead and put it down. All right, I'll play
- 8:28six. Yet you bet down, folks, money on the line. You're
- 8:31already on six, ante, lady, Oh yeah, I guess I'll just
- 8:35play five. All bets down, and now we spend the little birricade round
- 8:39and round. Watch the three dice in it, folks, where they'll stop?
- 8:41Nobody knows five, five, six, Well, let's see five gets
- 8:52two ten dollar bills and six gets what here you are see now how it
- 8:56works? What do you mean well, it's six ten dollar bills and the
- 9:00house collected four of them. Well, certainly, but three numbers one?
- 9:03Yeah, and how I've paid out two ten dollar bills to number five and
- 9:05one to number six. The house collected four. That leads a neat ten
- 9:09dollar proc No. I guess you're right, but I don't see how it
- 9:11works. That's down, folks. Well I think I played the same number.
- 9:15I can't lose anything this round, other ten on number five, All
- 9:18bets down, all numbers covered, And here we go round and round with
- 9:22little birdcade goes and where top nobody knows. And we got three five,
- 9:28So we pay number five three ten dollar bill. You see fancy? This
- 9:31time the house takes in five dolls and pays out. I guess it is
- 9:35a pretty good house game, after all, it's the best. You know.
- 9:37This bird next to us going all right, isn't he? Heyah,
- 9:39this begins to look like my game. I'm going to risk a few of
- 9:41these hundred dollar bills on it. Well, I don't hope you're lucky.
- 9:45I most always had your bets down, folks. Oh, we got a
- 9:48big time, mighty collar gambler with us. This round, five hundred dollars
- 9:52on number five. Mike, that's really twenty five dollars, isn't it?
- 9:56Sure enough? Fancy? I saught you figured the screen stuff with Just ta
- 10:00we go round and round that piece spinning and they stop it. Five five
- 10:09five, The big time gambler wins fifteen hundred dollars. Here you are,
- 10:13mister, thanks, Yeah, I guess this is really my lucky night.
- 10:16Why he won seventy five dollars your money? Oh listen, you're certainly lucky.
- 10:20Now, somebody's got to win, sister. But nowhe should I play
- 10:24this time? Oh? Try number three. That's a good idea. I
- 10:28put the whole two thousand dollars. It's an awful lot of money just paper.
- 10:31Yeah, but it's worth one hundred dollars. What's the hundred dollars between
- 10:35friends? I'll shoot the works. Oh, big money this time, folks.
- 10:39We'll get your bets down. But please don't put anymore on number three.
- 10:43There's too much there already, all right out money on the line.
- 10:46Oh I'm gonna put ten dollars on number six. Oh yeah, that's the
- 10:48time, lady. I hope you'll win all numbers covered. Here we go
- 10:58and they show three, three and one, ten bucks to number one and
- 11:03four thousand bucks to number three. Oh, here you are, mister,
- 11:09I can't lose Heleni. Well, I guess I'll try something else. See
- 11:11if I'm lucky it cut All right, folks, here's the game that really
- 11:16pays out the money. Bet down, but put your money on the line,
- 11:20get a hunch and bet a bunch more you with Patsy? Watch that
- 11:24guy who Oh yeah, I'll see if he gets into the blackjack game.
- 11:28Why, well, I haven't thought she's gonna be awfully lucky there too.
- 11:31He certainly did well at chuckle up, I'll see too. Well. Altogether,
- 11:35Michael couldn't have been crooked. She didn't get a chance to handle the
- 11:41dice. They were locked up in that brick gage. Yeah, I know,
- 11:43I know, Patsy, they always are. But you know something's happening
- 11:46here and I'm gonna find out what it is, and whatever it is,
- 11:50it's being worked on some mighty queer percentages. Mike, I wanta take onok
- 11:54at that black jack game. Want to be good listen, bound, Why
- 11:58don't you beat it? You've chased everybody else of the game ahead of me.
- 12:01Huh, you're too lucky. Nobody else wants to play. They just
- 12:03want to watch you kill them out. I'm betting five thousand dollars missed.
- 12:07Go a little easy, can't you. That's two hundred and fifty real dollars.
- 12:09Yell them out, Okay. When mister Learning seems to be pretty mad
- 12:13about it, doesn't mean you know, I don't blame how many gods pat
- 12:16the house plays nineteen, Ama, Sir, I got a ten up and
- 12:20a king in the hole. I never trust it's luck in my life.
- 12:22Hey boy, thanks tomorrow. That house money over here, about fifty thousand
- 12:26dollars looks like I'm gonna need it, that's hee. It looks to me
- 12:43like the children's hospital girls are being taken right down alone. Michael, you're
- 12:46crazy. Everybody's playing right ned. The money's rolling and just look around.
- 12:50Yeah, yeah, sure, the money's rolling in and also out, and
- 12:52it's rolling out right now, considerably faster than it's rolling in. What makes
- 12:56you think so? A lucky friend? That makes me think so. He
- 13:00won three hundred real dollars at the Chuckerloug table while we were there, and
- 13:03he won two hundred and fifty on one hand of black jack. I'm telling
- 13:07what he'd want before we get over there, and my guess would be that
- 13:09he's won. At least, oh, one thousand dollars is real money,
- 13:13tonight, Michael. Everybody can't lose all the time. You know, Patsy,
- 13:18your friend Lanning gave me quite a line about percentage, Mike Hunter,
- 13:22is that he knows his figures to dog on. Well, I don't see
- 13:24what you're getting at. Well, Lanning gets thirty percent of the profit doesn't
- 13:28mean, of course he does. He has a contract now. Thirty percent
- 13:30is nearly as good as ninety percent, is it? Anybody knows that?
- 13:33But he can't get ninety percent? Oh, I'm afraid he can't. I
- 13:35don't see. How how much did you expect this party to take in?
- 13:39Oh, mister Lanning told I don't care what mister Lanning told you. Now,
- 13:43how much did you expect to take in? Well, we thought we
- 13:46might need as much as two thousand dollars, Lanning, thirty percent would be
- 13:50six hundred. That would leave us fourteen hundred dollars to turn in. And
- 13:52that's a lot of money. Sure, Sure, I suppose Lanning is chipping.
- 13:56Oh he can't be. That's why we use the imitation money, so
- 14:00we'll know exactly where we stand right to the penny, Patsy, just suppose
- 14:05that our Lucky friend is working for Landing. I don't get it. Well,
- 14:11it's so simple. I don't know why I didn't think of it before.
- 14:13I'll admit Lanning had me fooled. Michael, you're just trying to find
- 14:16something wrong. I found something wrong, Patsy. I'm sure of it.
- 14:20Now. If one of Lanning's men can win most of the profits, we
- 14:22get seventy of the profit and that. Yeah, but seventy percent of one
- 14:26hundred dollars is only seventy dollars, But we'll make lots more than that.
- 14:30Not the way mister Lucky's going. You know, he's getting lots of bigger
- 14:33money than anyone else here, and he's winning consistently. Do you think he's
- 14:37worthy for then? Oh yes, yes, I'm sure of it. You
- 14:39see, Landing and his dealers is simply turning over the profits to this guy,
- 14:43which means that the final profits, which are left to split with your
- 14:46committee is going to be mighty slim. That but Lanning gets one hundred percent
- 14:50of the money that goes out to his cup, his his tood, you
- 14:52know, his assist, the guy who's doing big winning. Oh, you're
- 14:56not gonna let him get away with it. Her, You are not a
- 14:58stop it right now. The Capital has as much a right to be patronizing
- 15:03these games as anybody else. Now, we couldn't prove a thing, he
- 15:07deny he ever saw landing before tonight, And we couldn't prove otherwise. Could
- 15:11we well? Hunt me cool? You could throw the big out, couldn't
- 15:15you a lot of good thing to do? We've got to play our own
- 15:16game. Not there. Maybe they won't play, Maybe they will, Patty,
- 15:22if the percentage is in their favor, And that's the way we'll make
- 15:26it. That's the most ridiculous thing I ever heard about. Butcher's cleaver,
- 15:37That's what I said. A butcher's clever and a good sharp one. Where
- 15:39would I get a butcher's cleaver at this time of night? Oh you can
- 15:43get one, all right? Why can't you get it? Your sell?
- 15:45Because my voice doesn't have the emotional appeal for your butcher, mister Schultz.
- 15:48If I called him at eleven o'clock at night, he said, mister Schultz,
- 15:52I wish you'd go down to the market and lend me want to get
- 15:54sharp as cleaners. You'd think I was beat. He'd be right. Well,
- 15:56if you got it, he'd use it on me. But would you,
- 16:00Honey, you'll run right down and get it now, you hurry up
- 16:03and get going, Michael, won't you tell me why you want a cleaver?
- 16:06Yours? Not the reason why? Yours about to do or die?
- 16:08I'll kid it, got it die. He's got about twenty five dollars worth
- 16:11of that money Carlo money here, but I need a real die to make
- 16:15a phone call. Mister Shup. Oh, I wonder if you'd call him
- 16:26to the phone please, Well, I'm sorry, couldn't you please wake him
- 16:30up with terribly important thank you? Hello missus show this bas Ryan and mister
- 16:37Shults. I wonder if you'd do me a favor. Oh, I knew
- 16:41you would. I want to borrow one of your sharpest cleavers. Cleavers.
- 16:48No, I'm not mad at anybody, but I need it tonight, mister
- 16:51Shulkes. Now, if you could just run down to the market and get
- 16:52it and send it in a taxi to me at the ballroom with a Firebrooks
- 16:56Hotel, I'd be so grateful. I don't know of any other person in
- 17:02town, right, I do such a thing for me, But you've always
- 17:03been so nice, and I just knew you would well pay. Yes,
- 17:19I've got it, but I don't understand things at all. First, you're
- 17:22in such a hurry to get the cleanler, and then you just have a
- 17:25fit when I start to walk into the party with it, and then you
- 17:26drag me out here of the check with somebody might see it. You mean
- 17:30somebody might see it? You mean to say you had me go to all
- 17:33that trouble to get this thing, and now you don't want anybody to see
- 17:37it? Right? You catch on mighty quick, honey. Now we'll just
- 17:40leave it out here for now. You mean you want me to hide to
- 17:42seek? That's right, my can't you get crazier every day? Oh?
- 17:48Yeah, sure. Now you go back into the ballroom and find our lucky
- 17:51friend wherever he is, and stand and watch him but admiringly. That'll be
- 17:55lots of no fun like cheating, crooked log, bad words, any bad
- 17:59words. Act like you think he's wonderful, and then when I commit,
- 18:03act like you think I'm terrible. And remember what I told you about the
- 18:06follow up. I get it, I get going. I'll see in a
- 18:07few minutes still winning. I see, Yeah, I've been lucky at everything
- 18:19tonight. Where's the guy you was with? Oh? Yim ah, but
- 18:26you too is pretty thick. Well we all make mistakes, don't we.
- 18:30Well, so now we'll set to win some more. Door. I am
- 18:33ill doing as lucky as you were the other time. Lady. He cleaned
- 18:36his game out like it was a kindergarten marble game. Eight hundred bucks,
- 18:40real doll he took real doll not this imitation money. And I'm still lucky
- 18:44out for a thousand bucks. That's really fifty dollars, lady, fifty dollars
- 18:48on one black jack handle. This is exciting. Okay, suit yourself.
- 18:52I'm going to get one flower some pretty wild wide, doesn't it? Rainey,
- 19:00Hi, Polo, Hi Polly, Your friends got quite a bun on
- 19:03any He is no friend of mine. I blame you. Hello, good
- 19:07for you. I don't even know you. Oh she's mad of me,
- 19:11Miss Lanny. Patsy is mad of Mike. Can you imagine pretty little Patsy
- 19:15to be a man of Mike? I guess I want to get zickn out
- 19:18of Miss Lenny, you want to drink this, Lanny, No, no
- 19:22thanks, if you'll just move aside. We're playing blackjacket. Oh black jack?
- 19:26You play that with cards. But that's a wonderful game. It's really
- 19:30what you want to see, a cart trick. I'm magic at the cant
- 19:33tricks? Hey, can you can? You take you? Hey, don't
- 19:36pick up those cards. You messed up a black jack. Oh that's all
- 19:40right, pop, don't you apolgize. You'll just think nothing of that.
- 19:42Now you take a card, just say a little old card. You are
- 19:45Mike as well as you wim. Let him do the trick and maybe you'll
- 19:48get out. All right, Okay, but I got a card? All
- 19:52right? What is it? Six of diamonds? Pot me right? That's
- 19:56correct? Time? Is that a good trick? Is that? It's a
- 20:00bad fellow? I want to play black check. I'm gonna shame that a
- 20:03good check the heads and I work. I gotta pick up the guy when
- 20:11you were busy. Oh what tough guy? You want to fight? All
- 20:14right? Put him up. You're holding up the game. Game. It's
- 20:17not gonna show you something better than that's better than any game you see.
- 20:19Remember when I came to see you landing. I told you I know a
- 20:22lot of stuff, and I have, well I do, I don't doubt
- 20:25it. But now you're not saying any card in the deck, any card.
- 20:27All right, he's a hot. It's a hot, he says.
- 20:30Everybody hear that. It's a hot. And I watched me cut it's the
- 20:33first time, just like nothing. But yeah, I'll be dog gone.
- 20:40Yeah she's gonna be that. You want to know something, I'm the only
- 20:42guy in the world that got throw that Check's nobody else in the hole entire
- 20:45I'm the champ. You see. I've seen that trick done before. The
- 20:49white guy. He want to fight? Where you please get out of here.
- 20:52You're holding up the game. Scram on couple of cards like the first
- 20:56time. Then I mathematical output to the one right, yes, and I'll
- 21:00run along. Only kind of world I could do that. I thought you.
- 21:03Ah, I bet you a million dollars. Nobody here can do that,
- 21:07even money. Is that your real face that you wearing a mask?
- 21:10I'll look it up. You said somebody else to credit card call for it
- 21:12for his time. Put up a shut of listen. I have to take
- 21:15that kind of talking. Look don't pay any attention to Oh as many?
- 21:19If you're on lip planning? How bout of panty? If you want to
- 21:22bet? No, oh, I get it. You gotta tell you when
- 21:25he's over at the landing? How cap careful? What I said? Trying
- 21:27to find as the cutting of the answers I was for you today? You
- 21:30know, talking like that, I ain't the way to stay helpy, bunch
- 21:33of cheap bikers, that's what chat I hope, But mister Trent, leave
- 21:36us alone. Please, can't you see you are not wanted? Oh,
- 21:41not wanted? All right, I'll just sleep, That's what I'll do.
- 21:45I just thank goodness. I thought we never get rid of him. It's
- 21:48too smart for his own good. He's always that way. When he said
- 21:52one too many, I'd like to teach him a good lesson. He'll get
- 21:55all right if he keep you talking that way. I wonder if somebody doesn't
- 21:57rob him. He goes around in that condition with a couple thousand dollars in
- 22:02his pocket, yeah yeah, and that trick of his cutting any card called
- 22:06for. I think he's so wonderful. I wish somebody beat him with the
- 22:11cards and beat him at his own game. It's a pretty good trick at
- 22:15that, Mitt Lennon, couldn't you do it me? No, No,
- 22:18it's too tough for me. I got it. I don't know why I
- 22:22didn't think of it before. What it's so simple, it's so beautiful,
- 22:26but it works like a charm. What it works a way to beat him
- 22:30in his own game. It's an old carnival trick with a cleaver. It's
- 22:33a sure thing, person, Marty Alec. Now, look, I'm going
- 22:34down to the hotel kitchen and I'll be back in one minute. Now you
- 22:37wait for me, both, are you okay? It's the cleaver stunt.
- 22:44Hey, it's an old little but sure fire for a sucker. Sure,
- 22:47I know, now, boy, it's a lulu. There's a guy I
- 22:51really want to take here. Well, the way he's acting all the chumps
- 22:52around our team. Look, betterm a grand when you win. Turn it
- 22:56over to the party fund. Yeah, why we can't get away with no
- 23:00strong arm stuff? I got it. Listen, you give Trent's money to
- 23:06the party committee. That way, the party shows a profit and we get
- 23:07thirty percent of it. We also get the real profit, and without no
- 23:11heat on us, Trent paid for the party it's the cinch man. That's
- 23:17a beauty, and we'll use the old Kenny gig. Did you say Connie,
- 23:21Connie or both? I'll keep the Cleveland under my wrap. How Boddy
- 23:33lady, I got a hand? Or to you? You found a work?
- 23:36It's not a chance for a hit to pitch that Trent the lesson of
- 23:38his life. Two, I still love you. Oh is the erg and
- 23:44the big spot. So a little old patsy. You think they know somebody
- 23:47else too come through my trick, but they will put up then money on
- 23:49it. Oh No. The reason I didn't tell you who could do your
- 23:52trick was because I didn't want to brag, Trent. I didn't want to
- 23:56brag. I didn't want to brag. You mean you will. I can
- 24:00think you think you can cut any card, call for you pick go home
- 24:03before you get walk. But I don't think I can do it. I
- 24:07know you can. I got two thousand all dollars right here that say you
- 24:11can't. I'll bet you one thousand dollars I can. You're talking money,
- 24:15cary of money and real man leaves, you know, look like a kind
- 24:18of fellow could raise that much money. If you worry about me, I
- 24:21got it right here. Well, he says he can do all mikes.
- 24:22Pick By offered about two thousand dollars and he wants to send half that much.
- 24:26I know if it was a spiker, Well, at least he is
- 24:29in full possession of his second sure such as A yea better. If I
- 24:33had all my brains knocked out, I'd still be smarter than he is.
- 24:36You run a good chance of getting your brains knocked out the way you're talking
- 24:38out talk talk talk. I want action. I'm offering about two thousand real
- 24:42bucks, but you can't cut any card called for on one cut. Yeah,
- 24:48that's a lot of money. What are you people thinking? If I
- 24:52were you, I'd go ahead and bet two thousand. It's the guy a
- 24:55real lesson. He's asking for it, certainly, Sure, capta ask your
- 24:59boss the guys lotion for he'll tell you what to do. And I watch

- 25:10here? Righty. I We'll let the little lady here hold the money,
- 25:14and now let's have everything straight. I name a card and you're to cutage
- 25:19on one card for two thousand bucks. Right, we all said, I'm
- 25:23all set. Okay, lady, give me the cleaner. Here you are
- 25:30clave for what's going on here? You'll find out, wise guy. I
- 25:33bet that I could cut any card you'd name in one cut, and I'm
- 25:36gonna do it. Name your cards, my boy. Okay, seven of
- 25:41spades, all right, seven of spades. I had better score up a
- 25:45deck first, ready, No, mighty nice Cuttings. What's this solid part?
- 25:52Looks like you got trim Trent. He cut right through the whole deck
- 25:55with one blow of that butcher's cleaver cut every card right in half. So
- 26:00you see he cuts your card with one cut. Oh no, oh no,
- 26:04not the seven of spades. You didn't cut the seven of spades.
- 26:07I knew you put me. You want to know why? Why? Because
- 26:10here is the seven of spades from that deck right here. Look it over,
- 26:11Kapper. I prommed it off the deck and put it in my pocket.
- 26:15Hey just a minute, he's right, Lanny, Yeah, yeah,
- 26:18yeah, seven spades in this deck while you're getting smarter at Kappa. But
- 26:21it looks like I win. So if you don't mind, I'll just take
- 26:23my hold on. Try not so fast. This is a frame. You
- 26:26and the girl were working together. The whole idea this be was her.
- 26:27She got the clevance on Bridactus, and you framed it well. To now
- 26:33you're willing to admit that this fella's working. I'm not admitting anything, but
- 26:36anyway, better're all off. This was a frame. Certainly it was a
- 26:38frame up at all. That's for not off. You and your students thought
- 26:41you were framing me instead. I did it to you, so you,
- 26:45lou why i'll you'll do what you don't dare cause any trouble here in front
- 26:49of all these people. Hey, Lanny, or that's my own money,
- 26:52eight hundred bucks of it. You told me about the whole two thousand.
- 26:56You're gonna have to make it up to me. Oh idiot, Why,
- 26:57mister Lannie, is that anyone talk to a fetful employee. It won't be
- 27:02working for me any longer. I can guarantee that you bet he won't answers.
- 27:06The evening is still the youngest party might wind up making a pretty good
- 27:08profit. You are, Patty. I'll contribute this two thousand dollars to the
- 27:11fund right now. Mike, you're a wonderful Oh don't mention it, Patty.
- 27:15After all, it didn't cost me, might have cost you plenty before
- 27:18I get through with your trends. I don't think I'll let you get away
- 27:21with it. Lanning. You're not going to cause trouble for anyone. I'm
- 27:23making a full report on this so called benefit to the proper authorities, and
- 27:27they'll see to it if this is the last benefit you ever promote. No
- 27:32more easy money, Lanning. From now on you'll make it the honest way,
- 27:34and for you that'll really be heard. And now a last word from
- 27:52the famous magician turn rackets detective Mike Trent. Thank you. When you contribute
- 27:57money to charity, be sure your money is going to the proper place.
- 28:02In recent years, too many unscrupulous promoters have used a good cause as a
- 28:07front, and the benefits these promoters of stage have benefited nobody but themselves.
- 28:14You're sure to be with us next Sunday at this time for another story of
- 28:15the fleeces and the Fleeced, same time, Saint station An. Now,
- 28:21this is Mike Trent signing off the thought that one of gambler offers odds that
- 28:23are in your favor. There's something odd besides the odds. Remember there's no
- 28:30such thing as easy money. You have just heard another program in NBC's U
- 28:49series Easy Money is Frindscribe to expose the inside secrets of gamblers, racketeers,
- 28:56and con men. Next week, be sure to hear Mike Trentz explots of
- 29:00another easy money racket. Featured in tonight's cast were Larry Haynes as Mike trent
- 29:06Joan Allison, Jim Stevens, Alan Bergman, and Kenny Delmar. Easy Money

- 29:15by George V. Anderson. This has been an NBC Radio Network production.
- 29:19Lionel Reco speaking, there are a few things more exciting to a child than
- 29:44to gather in a small group to watch those gallant firemen struggle with heavy hoses
- 29:48to put out a fire in a burning house. The children see only their
- 29:52heroes fighting fire with water. An adult who had stopped the watch would probably
- 29:56notice other things. The members of the family throwing household possessions out the window,
- 30:00the terrified and confused faces of the children who live in that house,
- 30:04a dog or a cat pawing frantically at a door, a window in an
- 30:07effort to escape the heat and smoke and the distress on the faces of the
- 30:12owners of the house. Don't let this happen in your home. Check regularly
- 30:17on the following points of fire prevention. Don't smoke in bed, Dispose of
- 30:22all old newspapers and rags. Have a license electrician. Repaired defective electrical equipment
- 30:26at wiring keeap matches away from children. Use a cleaning fluorid that won't burn.
- 30:32Remember, don't gamble with fire. The odds are against you. Join
- 30:56your favorite couple, Fiber McGee and Molly tonight on the NBC Radio Network.
- 31:03Welcome back, Well always this show has always got a nice educational tone but
- 31:10still manages just to be fascinating and entertainment and this episode is no exception.
- 31:15And I love how Trent managed to meet the racket here and just another great
- 31:25story. And this has been a fun, a fun look at this series.
- 31:30I definitely wish there were more episodes, but unfortunately that's all that's made
- 31:36it into circulation for now. We do have one listener comment I don't want
- 31:40to read from Joel, who says I like this show well written, acted
- 31:44and directed. Trent has a great and distinctive voice of a take charge guy.
- 31:48Another old time radio discovery. Thanks to you, Adam Joel Well,
- 31:53thanks so much, and I hope our listeners will enjoy next week's discovery as
